Life updates!
Got my new driver's license with my updated legal name change which allowed me to change my name on my bank account and Paypal. Had to call Paypal support because my birthday was wrong on my account which caused an automatic rejection of my name change request (as it didn't match with the birthday on my ID), I can only assume it was younger me skirting by the age requirements at the time so I could make that Deviantart commission money LMAO (more shockingly, the Paypal support guy was really nice and we had a good laugh about it). Thankfully the fix was quick and easy :>
Only thing I'm waiting on now is my new provincial health card so that I can FINALLY book a bloodwork appointment. Once we're over that one hurdle, it's (hopefully) HRT time! <3
-------------
Psuwis is doing much better! He was on a round of various medications for a week to treat his jaundice / liver problems, and in between medications we got him eating as much as we could, swapping out foods and trying new things until we figured out what would stick. Unfortunately he has already gone back to being his picky self, but he's put on weight again and his jaundice has finally cleared. I'm incredibly relieved, and thankful to the vets at the urgent care clinic who were so good with him. I'm hoping this means we're still stuck with him for a few more years, as much as he drives me crazy with his antics he's still my boy and the fear of losing him really put into perspective how much of a positive impact he's had on my life and how much I need to appreciate him being here in whatever limited time he has. I love owning pets, but man, it's hard during those times when you're reminded that you're gonna outlive them 😭
Even now as I'm typing this, I can tell he just went to the bathroom because I can smell the stench of his frigging POOP emanating from his butthole five feet away. But dammit, he can stink all he wants, because at least that means he's still here <3

I've started playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Or rather, I had started playing it a while ago, but stopped shortly after the opening tutorial of the game. Since then, I've switched primarily to PC for most of my gaming outside of Nintendo Switch games. So I recently bought it again while it was on sale for practically dirt cheap, and finally took another crack at it.
I'm not sure why I stopped playing it the first time around, going into the PC versions I had vague memories of dropping it as soon as the opening section was over and I had access to the camp. All I could feel vaguely in hindsight was a sort of confused boredom and reluctance to try and get back into it. But I'm glad I gave it another shot, because honestly... I have no clue why past me struggled to get a sense of it, I love the first RDR (I've beaten it multiple times, easily one of my favorite games from the PS3 era) and RDR2 isn't exactly that much of a departure from it as far as gameplay philosophy goes.
Now that I'm actually progressing through it, I'm having a great time! The writing is as clever and hilarious as its predecessor, and the attention to detail in the worldbuilding is phenomenal. It's so silly but what I really appreciate most are just those little mundane moments of going into a grocery store, picking up a tin of hair gel or a stick of butter, and just... looking at it. Like damn, they really invested a lot of time and care into ensuring that I could interact with just about every item in this game and get some trivia out of it.
The game runs exactly how it should, if not leagues better than it did on the PS4. It still has the usual Rockstar bugginess, but unlike Bethesda's brand of jank, Rockstar bugs are just MSG, they provide that extra lil' kick of indescribable flavor. They're never game-breaking, always hilarious.
Assuming the game's performance won't be affected by it, I'd love to stream it sometime. Maybe get my husband on the mic with me as co-host. After all, as much as these games are primarily sold as single-player story-driven experiences, they really are at their best when you have someone to experience it with. I can't express to you how much I wish we had been streaming during the bar scene with Lenny. Truly an iconic moment I wish I could forget just to re-experience it all over again LMAO

The other day I got an ask inquiring about Kore's planner. I hadn't really thought much of it at the time, probably because I'm so used to Rekindled being an obviously non-profit project, but someone pointed out to me that I could theoretically make the planner as a digital notebook.
Tumblr media
And boy howdy, did my ADHD run with that, because I spent like 3 hours after this making exactly that! Here's a little preview!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously it's been buffed up a bit compared to the original, but I really wanted to build upon its brief original appearance and make it feel like a genuine notebook that someone like Kore would own, with little dedicated tabs and sections for different things. As a baseline, I'll be formatting this for PDF so that it can be imported into most major drawing software - including Clip Studio and Procreate - however I'm also gonna be fiddling around with the Goodnotes app (which I used to use a lot of myself) and seeing if I can make a Goodnotes compatible template with hyperlinks and other clickable parts.
Overall I've had a lot of fun making this, it took a lot of initial work in designing the base look and feel of it, but now it's coming together pretty smoothly! I'm hoping to have it ready in the next few days <3 Once it is, I'll be selling it as a digital download on my new Ko-Fi page! :> So if that's something you're interested in, give that page a bookmark/follow and check back in a bit! It'll be fairly inexpensive, within the $5-$8 range depending on how much gets included (i.e. if I can provide the Goodnotes template or not).
------------
January was an extremely hectic and chaotic month. It brought about a lot of unfortunate circumstances that were difficult to weather through. Despite this, I'm doing what I can to hold onto my hope that it'll all work out, that there are still opportunities for joy and progress, and that even the worst things that have come to pass will still pass. It's hard, but it's worth it.

throughout the past 3 days i've been playing a demo for
THE BIG CATCH!
Tumblr media
an extremely stylised gamecube-dreamcast era platformer inspired by the likes of psychonauts, super mario sunshine, FEZ and wind waker, where you catch fish, collect scales and do cool ass tricks with your fishing rod.
Tumblr media
you play as Caster, a young, recently come of age bunny-bird [known as a Fysker] who passed all his trials to become a Fyskari and start doing fishing work in the wastelands for hire. this work is a big part of their culture, it being tradition for Fyskers to undergo acrobatic training to hunt and catch fish.
Tumblr media
he works for a resturant, The Big Catch, under his boss Chef Leurre. we don't know much yet but the game seems to be set a few months after he starts working there, with some great disaster approaching that's going to doom the resturant unless he goes to save it. if you wanna read more, the website [https://thebigcatchgame.com] has a little info on the characters we know of and the general story.
Tumblr media
his smug, cocky rival and coworker, Tackle, is a little older than him, and just as skilled! but his attitude and lax nature hold him back. speaking of him, he's actually the character you play as in the demo!
Tumblr media
the demo in question serves as a prologue taking place a year or so before, featuring content that won't appear in the full game. as said, you play as Tackle during his last days of training to become a Fyskari, riding around the desert plateau through 12 different areas for a total of 26 fish and 688 scales. it's labelled as a demo but it is REALLY dense, a good 10-15 hours of content if you're goin for 100%.
Tumblr media
the music, too, is really good! using MIDI sequencing to simulate the music from the era it takes inspiration from, it hits a spot in my brain that reminds me a lot of super mario galaxy.
one word of note is that the difficulty curve in this demo is STEEP. once you get out of the tutorial pit almost every area asks a LOT of you, and it can be frustrating to start. if you manage to get past that, however, the platforming puzzles in this game are really satisfying to figure out. not to mention there's TECH
Tumblr media
overall, while this demo does have its flaws, with falling being a bit punishing when there isn't enough checkpoints and shortcuts available to get back quickly, pushing past them and improving leads to a LOT of really tight platforming and satisfying realizations when you figure out what to do.
HOWEVER!! if you plan on playing READ THIS NEXT PART CAREFULLY
[THIS IS OUTDATED!! SEE BELOW] the game has a Final Area locked behind 100%, and, another flaw, this game has no method of tracking where you've missed scales.i heavily recommend getting a notebook or opening notepad and keeping track of how many scales you've gotten in each area. people have already counted up how much each area has, so if you check and the numbers don't match, you know where to look! otherwise you're stuck aimlessly backtracking.
EDIT: the compass was added in a later patch, and it lets you know which area you're missing scales in once you reach the final hundred or so! it pulsates red when you're in the same area as them [minus the garden and mortar bird island, they're the biggest so you might need to go further into those to get it to trigger] and pulses stronger as you get closer. it can still take a bit to find the scales you're missing but it means you're no longer completely helpless if you missed some!
Tumblr media
if you're willing to stick to it and aim for 100%, the reward is absolutely worth it! the atmosphere in the final area is incredible, with the music building as you progress through it, and even beyond the item that lies at the top, you can go even further up and experience the view of a lifetime. i'll leave that for you to see for yourself though! hope you have fun! see you on the dunes. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2985610/The_Big_Catch_Tacklebox/

A Story About Eating The Best Gyoza With Mana-chan 〜Lifetime Gyoza Fans〜
I decided to really laze around during the New Year's holidays, I didn't do any of the strength training or cooking that I usually do, I didn't sing at all, I basically just slept and slept some more without thinking about anything else. Then, I gradually started forgetting what my life was like before so I got scared and immediately went back to my usual routine 😂 It's scary because if you don't set boundaries for yourself you can easily let yourself go forever! ! 😭
Hello, this is Wakana (0 ̄▽ ̄0)/
Generally, I enjoy singing all-year-round but after focusing hard on a concert, I like to take a break from singing for a while🧚‍♀️ It depends on the situation and my mood but those breaks could be a few days or even a month. If I don't do that, I feel like my perspective on many things will become too narrow...🥺 Lately, I've once again realised that it's important to create a sense of contrast and variety so I don't get stuck on something (^^)✨
Now! I would like to finally talk about my Gyoza Eating Journey that was featured in my latest newsletter. In Vol.#5 of my journey, I visited two amazing gyoza restaurants together with Mana Ogawa-chan🥟🥟\\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// Mana-chan is active as a singer, she also does stage work and participates in a project called Benesse Kodomo Challenge ♪(*´ω`*) I can't believe she was still in elementary school when we first met...😱(I was already an adult at that point)
Mana-chan also loves gyoza! ️ We live by the motto “NO GYOZA, NO LIFE”!! ️ (no, okay, this is really just me who is saying this). Anyway, I have been wanting to do some sort of gyoza activity together with her for the longest time😆♡ Finally, that dream-like project came true!! ️ Thank you Mana-chan😍
I asked Mana-chan to make a suggestion on where we should go first. She requested a Chinese restaurant called "Rengetsu" that was introduced in my gyoza guide book! Since I had read a lot about it in the book, I was of course very interested. Furthermore, there was another restaurant mentioned in the guide book which happened to be near Mana-chan's recommended place so I really wanted to check that out too, it's called "Min Min"🥟That's pretty much how we ended up going to two restaurants! (^-^)
First of all, let me introduce "Min Min" in Akasaka! The vending machine outside was only selling food that I love 😳✨ The inside of the store was much more lively than I had imagined from the outside, and the tatami room seats made it feel a bit like an izakaya😆 We had an appetizer but I was so focused on the gyoza that I don't remember anything about it😂. The highlight was definitely the fried gyoza! ️🥟 They are as big as a steamed bun! And so chewy! ! Akasaka's "Min Min" is a direct descendant of the currently closed Shibuya's "Min Min Yan Rou Kan" which is said to be the origin place of fried gyoza in Japan. Apparently they make around 1,000 pieces a day😳 We had our order together with their famous "vinegar and pepper" dipping sauce which actually originated at this restaurant♡ The gyoza filling had plenty of chives which Mana-chan was a big fan of! All in all, they were really delicious 😍 Next up we had boiled gyoza! The soup is so flavourful that you'll want to eat it with some noodles! Honestly, it was so delicious that you will be left wanting more 😳✨ Lastly, we had miso gyoza which was actually my first time😳 They were so rich in taste...!! ︎ The bean paste which looks reminded me of mapo tofu was so smooth and rich that I really wanted to eat it with rice! Look at the face I am making, pure happiness...😂 Akasaka's "Min Min" was truly the best~😭💕 There were many other menu items but we didn't pay attention to anything other than the gyoza😂We left the restaurant having thoroughly enjoyed a nice variety of gyoza: Fried, boiled and miso🥟
Next, we went to the restaurant Mana-chan wanted to visit, “Rengetsu” in Aoyama!🥟 The noren at the entrance was so cute ♡ The gyoza on the fabric looks like flowers 🥟The inside of the restaurant is very compact with only one table and a counter. My manager had made reservations for me a month in advance so we were able to get in but it was fully booked😳 (By the way, Akasaka's "Min Min" was also fully booked! Seems like both restaurants are really popular😍) As appetizers we had Szechuan pickles and a "green chili pepper, cucumber, and coriander salad"! Both were spicy and Mana-chan struggled a bit with those since she has a low tolerance for spicy food...! First, we wanted to try "Rengetsu's" signature meal, the boiled gyoza with minced lamb! ! Oh, oh, it was so delicious...! ! ! ! ! This was the best boiled gyoza I've ever had! ! ! 😭✨The sauce was also great! Apparently, the owner of "Rengetsu" won the Chinese Cuisine World Championship back in 2012😳 The taste was worthy of a world champion for sure! ! Of course we had another plate of boiled gyoza and then we moved on to the much anticipated fried gyoza 🥟 This one was also delicious! ! ! ! 😭😭✨ The sauces were different for boiled gyoza and fried gyoza, both delicious of course! ! (I actually switched between the sauces). We ordered another place of this too...😍It felt like a true indulgence and we were eating as much as we wanted😂
This was my 5th time eating gyoza for the fan club magazine and I had a special guest join me for the first time, it was really delicious and fun, I want to do this again and again! ! 😂Mana-chan and I got to talk a lot, not only about gyoza but also about work. Thank you so much Mana-chan! ! ! ・:*+.\(( °ω° ))/.:+ (Mana-chan always has a cute smile on her face (*´ω`*)💓)
There are still many restaurants I want to go to...My journey to eat gyoza will never end! ! \\\\٩( 'ω' )و ////♡ If you have any delicious restaurant recommendations, please let me know! ! ! Until next time~☆( *'▽'*)/

Talk Garden Vol. 5!〜Part 2〜
It's part of my daily routine to keep an eye on the plants in my house, but when my heart gets distracted by other things, I end up not being able to keep an eye on all of my plant babies so they will often end up running out of water. The frequency of watering varies from one plant to another, so it is essential to watch each of them very closely for sign of dehydration. (Sometimes I'll just lift the pot to determine how much water is left in it. By now I have a pretty decent understanding of how much water my plants need based on their weight!) For my bigger plants, I am using a moisture meter (I became a big fan after receiving one at a plant shop I visited a while back), so when the meter turns white, it's a signal to water my plant. I also want to keep track of the times when I water my plants throughout the year so I always write it down on my calendar. It's been dry lately, even my giant plants like Schefflera and Everfresh have been having a hard time😳 When I'm home all day and can take a close look at the plants, I try to take them for a walk around the room. Basically, I just move them around, following the sunlight🚶♪ Recently, I have also tried having my children stay in another room with considerably more sunlight, I pretty much send them abroad to learn and grow. However, studying abroad is a bit of a gamble for both humans and plants, there's always a risk that you don't like the place you're going so instead of growing stronger, the experience will end up weakening you. Not every place is a perfect match for every individual, for some it works, for others it doesn't...😭
Hello, this is Wakana (0 ̄▽ ̄0)/
As usual, my Queen of the Night is holding a bud festival but she really does it at her own pace...😳 There are a lot of buds but they don't grow at all 😂 The thing is, she will suddenly start blooming out of nowhere so you really need to keep an eye on her!! Sometimes buds are blooming and I don't even notice🤣
On a different note, Part 2 of "Wakana's Talk Garden Vol. #5" has just been uploaded. In this episode we are talking about our "Resolutions for 2024"! ! I received a lot of your passionate goals and things you want to do this year!\\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// Thank you 😊♡
I also decided to add a new corner to the podcast (the topic might change on a whim) *laughs* Here are some photos of the things I talked about in that corner! First we have a dried persimmon! (If you know of any delicious ways to eat it, please let me know!) And then we have a very old tablet. (I can't even read a book without the screen freezing every few pages)
2024 will be the 5th anniversary of my solo debut. I'm planning to sing a lot for you this year, so please wait until I can make some announcements 😆 In my Talk Garden podcast, I was asked the question, ``How do you get through difficult times?'' The truth is, I have had so many people help me. I am who I am today because of my family, all the people who have been by my side, and everyone who has supported me😊 I am once again reminded of my privilege and am filled with gratitude. Thank you so much everyone✨I will continue to try my best so that my music can reach all of you who have always been by my side♪
To begin with, please look forward to the live performance “Wakana 5th Anniversary “Prologue” ~Premium Online Live~” held on February 6th, this event will officially kickoff my 5th Anniversary celebrations🤗I will be accompanied by Saku-chan on piano 🎹♪ See you online on February 6th! ! ・:*+.\(( °ω° ))/.:+

Had this card finished for a while before posting, but I was kinda insecure about it lol. I talk a little more in depth on this card's Patreon post (you can view and download it for free btw), but long story short, I got stuck in my head about whether I was embodying the symbolism of The Star and then I realized I didn't have to have a one-to-one counterpart to every Rider-Waite-Smith card lol.
Once I wasn't so stuck in my head, I realized I really like the way this card came out! I usually struggle to draw fire, but I found this quick tutorial and it actually gave me a process to try! Would recommend!
But let's go ahead and talk interpretations. They'll be below the cut as always:
After The Tower's destruction, The Star rises from the wreckage-- a shining beacon of hope.
While you likely experienced a period of pain and upheaval in the past, the presence of The Star suggests that good things are coming your way.
The Star is a card of hope and renewal. It reminds us that even though we went through trauma or generally crappy situations, we can emerge from them confident that things will get better. There are good things coming and we're urged to focus on those.
A lot of the symbolism within this card is somewhat religious in nature. The original woman is kneeling down with one of her feet seemingly walking on water, an homage to the Christian understanding of Jesus. The Star appears to be very in touch with the higher power within her whether her understanding of it stems from religion or her own spiritual beliefs.
In this way, we're urged to have faith in the forces we might not be able to comprehend. Sometimes singular or series of events can happen without us putting much effort into their creation. Sometimes, something we wanted or needed comes to us even when it didn't seem at all possible. The Star urges us to have faith in ourselves and trust that what we want will come to us.
Be confident in yourself, have hope that things will change, and begin to free yourself from the fear that keeps you from living authentically.
Reversed, the once hopeful figure of The Star has lost their glow. They've become lost in their pain and struggle to find any reason to stay positive. There's only so much a person can take before they feel beaten down and hopeless.
An important distinction, however, if that a reversed Star does not mean you have no hope. There are still plenty of chances for our situations to improve and for us to heal, this reversed card simply indicates our own feelings and thoughts.
While it can be frustrating to hear that something's 'all in our head', a reversed Star can be looked at as a sign that we have the power to make things better. Whatever higher power put us on Earth also gave us the ability to alter our reality and create a better life for ourselves.
Of course we may need help along the way whether that be a therapist, doctor, support group, or our loved ones, but that help is out there.
Even a reversed Star is a message that the worst of our pain and suffering is over. The pain we suffered is real and valid, it always will be. But The Star reminds us that we have the power to heal from it and come back stronger than when we started.
When designing this card, I wanted Haruka to represent the Star in question.
After Kiryu's entire family died, he felt like he had no reason to stay alive. The whole reason he went on his journey in the first game was to be reunited with the people he loved. He was willing to forgive those that had hurt him and move on, but in a very short period of time, everything was taken from him.
Everything except Haruka.
Haruka isn't free from suffering, either; her mother was taken from her and her father tried to kill her, but she serves as an anchor for Kiryu to hold onto his desire to live (even if he continues to struggle in the future).
She's an opportunity for Kiryu to get away from the Tojo Clan-- the organization that gave him everything he loved, but also took it away so many times. A beacon of hope leading Kiryu towards the life he actually wants.
Things aren't easy. Healing from such intense trauma rarely is, but there's hope for this little girl who never had a proper family and this man who just lost his.
Fate seemingly destroyed both their lives, but it seems like it also gave them everything they needed to find new meaning in the mess left over.

Street Fighter 6 Training Journal Part 1
Jun 17th
Well I installed the game, booted it up and spent the next like couple minutes fighting with the Capcom ID thing. Got that sorted out only to find that the online wasn't working so I went into World Tour, it's alright unfortunately I can't enjoy it that much due to graphic limits.  Also, after completing the first chapter of the World Tour, I'm even more of a fan of Luke. Sure, he's kind of a dude bro but he cares and is trying. What a great way to have players get to know your new character that previously has been despised by the fanbase.  ah the joys of being so bad, I forgot what it was like to sit on the grid for hours doing the same motions over and over again praying for them to connect because I have no idea why they do or don't or how they do.
Jun 18th
Decided to try out the character trials for the characters I’m interested in(Jamie, Luke, Chun, Guile). Could only get to 9 on Jamie Could only get to 7 on Luke Could only get to like 5 or something with Guile where I had to do a standing flashkick could only get to 4 or 5 with Chun.  decided to back out of the trials and learn a bit more about Jamie in training mode after watching his character tutorial. Figured out that his game play is pretty simple. Learned my pokes and anti air as well as basic baby combos. Gonna play randoms or friends tomorrow online.  Also decided to curb the drive rush mechanic till I get a better handle on my character, will probably bite me in the ass but I think it'll make learning the game less daunting for me.
Jun 19th
Finally got some time to play, played the arcade mode for Jamie and got the basic 2mk > 236 mp > 6K > 6K rekka drink down pretty consistently, well on player 1 side. Next is player 2 side.  Just gotta keep reminding myself, Rome wasn't built in a day and I really want to get better at Street Fighter.  I also learned that my rig can't handle ryu's stage. My frame rate tanks through the whole match, sucks cause his is one of my favorites, but can't do anything about it till I get a new pc.
Jun 27th
Jeez, it's been a while since I could play sf6. So in my short 2 hour lab session I learned: Jamie's dp has to hit pretty low cause if the first kick doesn't land he doesn't launch I can anti air with 2KK If I air to air with any button, I can dp after for extra damage. 2lp 2lp 2mp is harder than I thought and not reliable for me 5hp has to be canceled early The only way I've found to combo into H236 is 2hp(without any punish or crush factors that is) I'm comfortable doing my bnb on p2 side now.
Jun 29th
After watching Sajam's latest video on spacing/whiff punishing I hopped into the lab to practice whiff punishing and after seeing what Sajam showed with Jamie for a second or two I wanted to see what I could get off 5HK. Turns out I can get 236HP off 5HK, which can lead to bnb.  After that, I started practicing jump ins. And learned that j.mk>2mk won't combo into 236HP, but j.mk>5mk will. Eventually, I started practicing punish combos thanks to the built-in templates in training mode.  I believe it was around this time that dno showed up and called me crazy for practicing on p2 side to start. Anyway, I was practicing the punish combo starting with 5HK trying to see if I could get 2 drinks, I couldn't. Started tossing supers into the idea. 5hk>6Hk>super.  After doing this with Jamie's breakin' super, I tried his lvl3. Learned the timing for when to input after lvl 3 to continue combo. -realization- This is just trial 9 that I'm stuck on with Jamie. Goes into trials to confirm Yup Tries to complete trial Can't link shit Wtf lol.  Also, I can hear you thinking, "Danny, this is an awful lot of training mode. Why not go online?" Well, because a lot of the stages completely devour my frames, and I don't like looking at the grid any more than I have to... So once I get my new PC imma be fighting!
Jul 5th
After upgrading and installing again I played online and did my placements. They went about as well as expected honestly but that's okay.
Tumblr media
Jul 6th
After reflecting a bunch on the matches I played last night, as painful as it was, I realized a few things. 1. I need to not worry about everyone else. My toxic trait is constantly,  and I mean constantly, comparing myself to others. Friends, family, other players, etc.  2. I realized that I was accidentally getting OD moves for punishes instead of supers cause I was hitting 2 punches or 2 kicks. 3. I'm pretty good at recognizing when I can take a sip with Jamie in neutral. (Though this is mostly because players my rank aren't as aggressive)  4. I can get full stacks with Jamie fairly often(again, cause of the rank), but don't do anything really with it except switch up my rekka combo. 5. I probably rely on Jamie's 5mk, 2mk, and sweep target combo too much.
Jul 10th
So yesterday, I played more online. Made it to Iron 3, and had a great time. The only characters I had trouble with were Lilly and Gief(modern). I don't think I won a match against any of them I came across. However, that was because of me messing up, and I recognized where I did.  All the top tier chars I played, I was able to hold my own against cause they weren't being as oppressive as I see higher elo. Also, they always 1 and done me every Ken, dj, and juri once they one the first match, gone to the aether lol.  The matches I played to completion were fantastic. I practiced my anti airs and recognized when to use them more. I punished with supers more. I was getting better at pushing my advantage when I had it.  Two final thoughts 1. I started actually using Jamie's divekick and it's been working out pretty well for me. I’ve been using it like I did Saberwulf's more for mobility, reaching the ground faster for punishes and side swapping.  2. Capcom really does send Manon's after you if you get a win streak lmao

July 16th, 2024 - The Palace Museum, Mongolian BBQ, Chiang Kai Shek’s residence
I really enjoyed today’s programming. I surprisingly like museums a lot, and the one today was no . It was really cool getting to see all the historical artifacts dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years.
I woke up this morning around 4am and ended up in a meeting at 6am that none of my friends or coordinator thought I’d be at, but then bullied me for being awake so early haha. After my meeting (and getting GREAT news), I went down and got breakfast where I ate whilst being on FaceTime with my friends. Afterwards, I went to he hotel’s gym and recorded some dance tutorials for the dance I’m choreographing for the Asian American Student Assembly in late August. It was mildly frustrating because my phone/ipad kept running out of space but i got most of part 1 filmed. The uploading was also pissing me off so I left it till later.
I then went and took a quick shower before hopping onto the bus for the day’ activities. We first went to the Palace Museum and got to see a lot of beautiful artifacts. I ended up buying a acupuncture folder for my mom, a koi fish print, and two pairs of chopsticks. After the museum, we went to a Mongolian BBQ + Hotpot place. It was pretty cool watching them cook on the flat top stoves and the food was really good (that reminds me that i still have guava in my backpack that i should probably take out before I forget. After lunch, we headed to Chiang Kai Shek’s residence where we got to see a lot of his house and compound. It reminded me a lot of my grandmother’s house, especially with it being in lush tropical mountainside. We then took the bus back to hotel.
After a bit of resting and working on homework, I went with some classmates back to Ximendi to go to do some shopping and get dinner. We first stopped at this two-story thrift store that was filled with name brand expensive pieces, but we left without anything because the prices were astronomical. Then we went to H&M, where I proceeded to get myself STUCK in a dress and quite literally rip myself out (I thought I was gonna die in it). After checking out, we went and got chicken at this supposedly fried chicken shop nearby (we lowkey started beefing with one the guys who worked there) before hitting a Watson’s really quick to buy eyelashes for tomorrow’s bar crawl. Then we took the train home where we may or may have not encountered a fellow classmate with an unusual lack of clothing perched on a piece of furniture in a interesting place…..Then i took a shower and got ready for bed.
Academic Reflection
The reading by Yi-Chi Huang talked about the imagined national identity of Taiwan, which I thought a lot about while visiting the museums and memorials we’ve been to lately. In my major (international studies), I’ve spent a lot of time learning about and interacting with discourse on imagined communities and identities (such as being ethnically Han Chinese or what it means to be “Japanese”). I’ve also written a couple essays on the history of Formosa and the different foreign occupations of Taiwan. Therefore to me, it’s only natural that the country would have a mixed identity with it’s unique history.
However, when visiting the Palace museum today, I but reflect on how Chinese everything felt. Of course, the items in the museum came from the Forbidden City in Mainland China. Yet as I toured the museum, it felt like the pieces made it seem like it was also Taiwan’s history. If one didn’t know any better, they’d think that Chinese culture is Taiwan’s only culture—which is not necessarily true. Taiwan is a mix of Indigenous, Chinese, and other foreign cultures all mashed together. Even walking down the street in Taipei, I sometimes forget that I’m in Taiwan and not some miscellaneous U.S. city. Yet, after learning more about Chiang Kai-shek and his supporters on this trip, I feel like maybe that’s the point. Perhaps the intention is to promote Chinese culture as Taiwan’s native culture. It’s definitely interesting to think about, especially in relation to other countries with big issues with ethnic erasure—such as Japan, Australia, and Mainland China.

As someone who's also into game design (though it's not really a career so much as an interest) I think accessibility in games is really, really fucking important, but I think after playing GX a little I kind of understand why the difficulty is such a huge draw.
I'm gonna say something controversial here: Dark Souls isn't that hard. F-Zero isn't that hard. Mega Man isn't that hard. I've played all of those games. What they have is the POTENTIAL to be hard, and the fact that their core gameplay loop revolves around trial and error. They're games that reward patience and persistence over anything else.
I'd barely ever played a racing game before F-Zero GX, the thing I'd had the most experience with was Mario Kart. And yeah, I struggled a lot on the first story mission of GX, which I knew was SUPPOSED to be a tutorial. So instead I went to Practice mode, picked the very first track in the game, and learned the controls on my own time and at my own pace. I did several laps on Mute City, getting used to how it controlled, getting used to drifting and taking tight turns. I learned that blast turning wasn't possible in this game, but I could pull both drift buttons at the same time to powerslide. I learned that I could use jumps to get up into the air and massively cut time off of tracks, but if I wasn't careful I could get myself killed. I learned that boosting is fun and you should definitely ignore that little alarm that goes off when your energy is low! (Okay, that last one is debatable)
But from then, I tried a grand prix on Novice difficulty, and I actually did pretty decent! I think I ended up taking 3rd, which feels like a loss at first, until I'm reminded that this is a "hard" game and you're supposed to keep playing over and over to get good at it. Then 3rd felt pretty good. 2nd felt better. 1st felt fucking amazing. Then I went back and played the story mode that had me stuck, and passed it in the first go.
Now, I repeat that process, every time I'm stuck on a track. If I lose a Grand Prix to a track, I pull it up on Practice mode and run laps on it over and over until I feel more confident on it. F-Zero is fun to me because I can feel myself getting better at the game the more I play it, and I never considered myself a "tryhard" or someone who loves "hard" games.
I think accessibility in games is important, and that's why I think we should find a better term for "hard" games. Because that's the thing, these games aren't hard, they're meant for you to try something new, fail, learn from that mistake, and come back again. It's a game that's meant to help you grow your skill level, and it's kind of sad to me that once a game gets a reputation for being "hard" people like me won't want to play it anymore. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into playing Dark Souls because I didn't think I would like it. I only played Mega Man because my friend begged me to. Every time, I come in convinced that this "hard" game is going to give me a bad experience, but instead I find myself growing and learning and being rewarded for that.
I guess I'm a little off topic by this point - how can we fix it, aside from finding a better term than "hard game"? I definitely agree the difficulty curve in GX is fucked, as great as it feels to get good at the game, how quickly it revs up ends up feeling like you're going from one stonewall to the next. So then, I'd propose more missions of a smaller caliber, with the extremely difficult missions as a sort of "boss" mission.
I think rewarding the player for playing and making losing fun is a crucial part of the gameplay loop, the fact that you still get parts and tickets even if you don't win the Grand Prix means you don't walk away from a race emptyhanded, and I think that's crucial. Rewards for beating your best time, placing higher than you did before, rewards for continuing to play the game (NOT daily rewards, those are the path of the devil) and encouraging the player to keep trying, I think that's all a crucial part of making a "hard" game fun. Helping the player track their individual progress and growth, not just in terms of "win the race or don't" but showing how they the player are now better than the player they were a week ago - that's what I think would make F-Zero more fun, and possibly draw in a larger audience.
But also I'm a #fakefan who got into F-Zero because 99 dropped so maybe I know nothing about the series LMAO
What would you want from a new F-Zero? Personally the only gameplay things I can think of are more vehicle customization, death race (F-Zero X) and an easier difficulty?
Non gameplay, I suppose the integration of the various anime original characters into the game universe?
Those gameplay additions sound good! I know that the difficulty is part of what "makes F-Zero" for some people but as someone who is both bad at racing and studying accessibility in video games and game design, I would really love for there to be ways for less skilled players to enjoy as well (looking at you, GX story mode).
As much as I love and adore the anime characters I'm not sure I personally would want them to be merged into the game universe. I don't really talk about it much because I'm afraid it will come off as judgey or gatekeeping when that is the opposite of what I want to convey but I am happy with their current status as characters in an alternate universe timeline and I think introducing them into the main games would make more people mix up the anime and game timelines/characters, like more than they already do lol. I personally like keeping the verses separate but I think it's interesting when people think up ways to make the two universes work with each other.
Other than that I would really love another story mode, I know there's mixed feelings on GX's campy story and whether it even actually happened (stares at Black Shadow's pilot vid) but I LOVE campy cheesy goodness and beyond that, the implications of certain things that happened in the story such as Falcon uhhhhh gaining the power to reshape the universe (like. Hello????) are so fun to dig into. Sure the story wasn't a cinematic masterpiece of plot but the open ends mean it's Free Real Estate for fic and meta 🥳🤲 So a new story would be fun to see, whether it's serious or not. Or even just new snippets of pilot screentime like the interviews were because the pilots are what keep me in a chokehold here 👯

some tips for writing blogs, especially those who are just starting out. these are some things that works for me and may or may not work for others.
how to add a read more link on mobile
type :readmore: on a free space, then hit the enter or return button
personally i think they’re very helpful because it lessens the space you take up in your dash, and might encourage more people to rb
+ you can also add this on a spot where it gives a sort of cliffhanger, essentially making people want to ‘read more’
headers, banners, and dividers
though not necessary, it’s good to have a title for your work. make sure it’s bold and doesn’t blend in with your notes (aka pairing, warnings, etc.). this also helps when someone wants to look up one of your works in your search bar
i don’t really make banners or covers for my works. but some good apps that i know of would be picsart and canva. if you’re looking for ideas, i definitely recommend going into canva
wondering how to make those really small, thin dividers? you can make them using picsart! to make a divider hit tools > free crop > brush > size (adjust it to your preference > then draw a line along the edge of your photo > save
using the divider you just saved, go back to picsart and edit it again > draw option > hit rainbow square at the bottom left corner > hit suction/droplet symbol right below the check mark > color in the white spots bc for some reason picsart glitches and makes dividers look white-ish
new blog? just opened an account?
this is gonna sound really frustrating. but... tumblr needs to check if you’re a bot or not. what does this mean? it’s likely that your first few posts won’t show up on the search bar. you may not even get to edit your header/pfp yet ://
this happened to me and there was no visibility on my account at ALL. what helped me get ‘verified’ is that i followed a LOT of accounts, liked a bunch of posts, made some posts here and there. now that lets tumblr know you’re not a bot
visibility
the tumblr tagging system usually only allows the first 5 tags in your post to show up. so, what can do you about this? only use FIVE or less tags in your post. wait about 15 minutes or more until you can add some more tags in your post, and they usually all show up like that
another important thing about using tags is not to generalize! especially if you’re using a popular tag. but also don’t specify it too much where barely anyone looks it up. for example, if you’re writing a gn piece about oikawa, i recommend you use the tags such as: oikawa x reader, haikyuu x reader, oikawa x gn!reader, haikyuu headcanons, etc
a good rule of thumb is to use character x reader tags first, then leave the full name or fandom tag last
FOR NSFW: tumblr doesn’t let any tags with nsfw show up. so, give your nsfw works another tag. maybe #namegetspicy idk, you figure it out
FOR WARNINGS: especially if you’re a dark content creator, i highly encourage you to add tw:xyz tags. if you already have a warning note at the top then that’s great. but even better for readers who prefer to actually block these tags that way they never get to see it
another important thing to note is that people have different timezones. it helps if you rb your work at a different time of the day, in case people missed it! (icymi) i’ve noticed that reblogging helps to make your post show up in the tags
interaction + feedback
first and foremost, you are not obligated to write for your followers, and neither are your followers obligated to interact with you. remember that everyone has their own individual lives, and they have their own things to do— so do you, too.
make friends! become mutuals with other writers, visit their ask box. i know it can be daunting having to initiate these things, but you might just turn out to have fun! you can’t expect people to interact with you if you’re not interacting (back). it’s... kind of a two way thing yk? no need to be afraid to interact with other writers. oh, and rb other writers works!
pspsps join tag games or do ask games. it’s fun and very interactive
it never hurts to ask for feedback. i usually do this in a more subtle way because i don’t really expect a full on analysis on my works. maybe a little, is this okay? or feedback appreciated. sometimes it takes a little bit of coaxing for the silent readers
formatting your posts and blog
i generally put in the title at the top in big, bold letters
then comes the header/divider. helps to make the post more... visually appealing ig?
it’s important to add warnings (if any) and the pairing. the audience is not all female, and it might be a little frustrating for male readers having to find out its an x fem reader piece like halfway through your fic
if you have multiple works posted, it’s really really helpful to have a navigation page!
you can organize the posts you make with tags! for example, if you’re shitposting, you can use a specific tag for that. if you have a nsfw related post (ESPECIALLY when your blog is open to the general audience) please make a tag for it
themes + colors
if you have a color in mind but don’t know which direction to go from there, i recommend looking up color + aesthetic
looking to use the same color? download a name color app that’ll give you a hex code for any color you want to use. then, you can type in that hex code for when you’re choosing a color for your tumblr bio
wondering how to make your header image small like mine? just choose a photo for your header and turn off the stretch image option
want to use a different text color that tumblr doesn’t offer? it’s not as complicated as you think. you’ll have to go on a desktop to do this and do some html (but trust me, it’s not very difficult). look up “HTML noob but trying my best - how to use colored text on desktop”
^^ i don’t have the link for the color text tutorial so you can try looking it up
how to make an aesthetic navi and masterlist
step 1: decide a theme! if you’re stuck, think about a character + color/season/mood or look up “[insert] aesthetic” to find some inspiration. or you can try looking at other blogs too
step 2: find a color scheme! it’s easier if you choose fewer colors. if you want to use the same color for both divider and text, download a color name app in order to get the hex code of that color.
step 3: add categories to your navi! most navigation pages include a link to masterlist, about/byi, and rules. your navi should have a title that indicates that it’s... a navigation page. you can add thin colored dividers with the same color to make it easier for followers to navigate
step 4: you can choose to create a ‘cover’ or a picture for your navigation and masterlist! again, i recommend you use the canva app as a starting point
extra: search up emoticon symbols to spice up your titles!
reminder for you as a writer
you’re not obligated to do any of these things. i’ve noticed that we tend to build pressure on ourselves when it comes to content and interaction. remember, this !! is !! for !! fun !! when you realize that it’s no longer fun, then know that it’s time to take a break. and there’s nothing wrong with a bit of self care.
^^ c/p from this post lol
at the end of the day, follower count and interaction doesn’t define you. again for the love of beings, you’re here on your own accord.
will be adding more if needed/asked.

Ectoberhaunt Day 5: Ouija Board
Summary: To get into the spooky season spirit, Tucker and Sam convince Danny to play a video game late at night, and Danny isn’t pleased about the subject of the video game.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/34303123
Too Close to Home
“Let me get this straight,” Danny interrupted. “I fight ghosts - real ghosts - on a nightly basis. And now that I actually have a free night you want to take up the time that I should be sleeping to fight fake ghosts?”
He shook his head as he looked at his computer screen, the only light in his entire bedroom aside from the digital clock that showed the hour: 11:45. From the first-person view of the computer game on his screen, he watched the avatars of both of his friends attempt to throw basketballs into a hoop.
“But this is way more fun,” Tucker’s voice said over Danny’s headset. “And it hurts a lot less! Ah! Dang it Sam - you messed up my throw!”
Sam cackled triumphantly. “Better pay more attention to your timing then.”
Tucker groaned as his avatar abandoned the basketball for spray paint cans, which he chucked at Sam. “Besides Danny, we’re not fighting ghosts: we’re hunting them.”
“Fine, fight, hunt, whatever. I still do both of them,” Danny argued.
“Not like this you don’t,” Tucker grinned. “God he’s gonna get creamed.”
“You know Danny, maybe we should let you go to bed. You’re gonna ruin my perfect streak,” Sam teased.
Danny rolled his eyes. “Or maybe you’ll actually do better because you have a true ghost hunting professional on the team,” he defended. He had no idea why he was bragging - he’d just been given an out and given the late hour he should take it, but now it felt like he needed to defend his pride as a ghost hunter. …That thought sounded a little too similar to something his parents would say and he quickly dismissed it. “Besides, I played the tutorial, I know what I’m doing. I’m just trying to figure out why we’re doing this.”
“Because it’s spooky season,” Tucker replied with a hint of sarcasm.
“We are only five days into October, Tucker, and if you’re gonna keep doing this all month I am going to hit you with the Fenton Anti-Creep Stick,” Sam threatened.
“I dunno, it might be worth it,” Tucker teased. “What do you think Danny?”
Danny shook his head, even though none of them could see it. “As the only person in this group who has actually been hit by the Fenton Anti-Creep Stick, I would back off,” he advised.
“Listen to Danny Tucker,” Sam chuckled as her avatar walked over to the white board to set up the hunt. “He’s actually speaking wisdom for once. Now come over here and pick out your gear.”
The playful teasing between best friends stopped as they actually got serious and picked out the gear they would need for their mission. Since Danny had no money, he couldn’t really participate in the conversation, but it seemed like Tucker and Sam had played this enough to know what they needed to bring. Sam started the mission, and their avatars found themselves inside the trailer looking at another whiteboard.
“Alright, looks like our ghost is named Thomas Clark and he responds to all of us,” Sam informed the group while Tucker’s avatar walked over to the shelves to equip supplies.
“Well that’s a dumb name for a ghost,” Danny complained as he looked at the bulletin board next to the computer. He had to squint at his screen to read them, but the articles were fairly legible and contained ghost stories he remembered hearing his parents talk about. It also had a recent article that he actually remembered running in USA Today proclaiming Amity Park as the most haunted city in the world - he didn’t know whether to feel proud or annoyed.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Sam agreed, though her voice was laced with sarcasm. “He should have gone with Thomas Phantom instead.”
Danny rolled his eyes as Tucker burst out laughing. “Oh yeah, now that sounds like a proper ghost,” Tucker added between laughs.
“I knew I was going to hate this,” Danny groaned under his breath. “Can we just get this over with?”
Sam’s avatar turned to face the new whiteboard. “Alright, fine. Objective one: find out what kind of ghost we’re dealing with - standard. Objective two: witness a ghost event.”
“I am a ghost event,” Danny smirked, causing Tucker to burst out laughing again.
“Objective three,” Sam snapped, “capture a photo of the ghost.”
Tucker’s avatar grabbed a camera and snapped a picture of Danny’s avatar. “Got one!” he proclaimed, which drove both boys into laughter.
“Objective four,” Sam said louder, “get a ghost to walk through salt.”
“What? That’s dumb. Everyone knows that’s an old wive’s tale,” Danny complained as he shook his head. Did the creators of this game actually do any real research before they made this game?
“Are you regretting this yet Sam?” Tucker asked as he finally stopped laughing.
“Let’s just get in the house,” she groaned. Danny smirked in triumph, and he could tell Tucker was sharing a similar smirk on his end.
They divided up equipment between the three of them, but not before Danny could comment on the inaccuracies of each of the pieces of equipment and how useless they’d be in an actual ghost fight. From faulty science to just being plain incorrect, Danny made sure to have pithy comments about all the equipment. He didn’t know why it bothered him so much that it had to be accurate - he was not his parents - but as a ghost and a ghost hunter, it just felt a little more personal than he wanted to admit.
Because he was the newest one, Danny got stuck with the Spirit Book (“What? Are they trying to imply all ghosts can’t write? That’s alivist!”) and the EMF Reader (“...Okay that one’s actually accurate”) because they were apparently the easiest to use. Laden down with their gear they walked up to the small house. Sam’s avatar unlocked the door and they headed inside. Danny noticed the tonal shift immediately. Outside he could hear wind and crickets chirping, but once he stepped inside the doorway, an oppressive silence covered his headphones. It reminded him of the sensation on a pressurised airplane and it unnerved and unsettled him...a lot more than he planned to admit to his friends.
“Alright, spread out,” Sam instructed. “See if you can find the ghost room.”
Ghost room, right. He remembered that from the tutorial. It had been the garage in the tutorial, so he figured he should start there. He walked back through the dark house, turning lights on as he went. It wasn’t because he was scared - absolutely not, he was a real ghost hunter! - it was just much easier to see. He pulled out the EMF reader and walked into the garage. It had an eerie quality to it, and he couldn’t tell if it was because he remembered seeing the ghost there last time (a mean looking (and inaccurate) ghost covered in blood and holding an axe) or if it was because he was alone and the room was so large, but he did not like being in here.
“You know, in the tutorial, the ghost was a bloody axe-man,” Danny remarked over the walkie talkie.
“Yeah, I think he’s standard in the tutorial,” Sam remarked offhand. He did not want to admit how good it felt to hear her voice in the oppressive silence of the house. They were clearly focused on their tasks, and that was a good thing, but it felt a lot better hearing their voices.
“Red blood,” he continued, simply to trigger more conversation. He didn’t get any EMF readings, so he gratefully left the garage. “Not ectoplasm. It’s like they didn’t even try.”
“Ugh, Danny, they’re going for a horror aesthetic, not something real,” Sam sighed.
“What? Ectoplasm-stains are horrifying,” he countered as he walked through the rest of the first story. Still no EMF readings.
“Only when it’s yours,” Sam said, and the weight of those words echoed in the silence of the house that made him stop moving for a moment. “No cold spots upstairs,” Sam informed them to break the silence.
“Yeah, no EMF downstairs,” Danny added. “I’m gonna check out the basement.” That’s where they loved to hang out in the real world, so it seemed the next best choice.
“Oh hang on, if you’re going down there I’ll go with you,” Tucker spoke up.
Danny stopped halfway down the stairs. “It’s fine, I’m pretty used to basements,” he joked weaky.
“Yeah, well the last time you went into a basement alone with untested ghost equipment you died.” Tucker said it light-heartedly as a joke, and it was one they’d said a bunch of times before, but somehow it just didn’t feel the same in this tense environment. It felt too...personal.
He waited for Tucker’s avatar to appear before they walked down the stairs together into the basement. Unlike Sam’s basement or his own, this basement had a much creepier feel to it, with the foreboding worn brick walls and discolored cement flooring. Honestly he was glad Tucker went down there with him because it just felt better having another person there.
“Sam, maybe you should get down here with the thermometer,” Tucker mentioned as they both walked through the basement. “Because we’re not--”
Danny whirled around as he heard something thud hard against the ground behind him while he jumped in his chair. The EMF reader in his hand jumped up to three dots and blared at them while he stared at a box of tools now on the ground. The ghost was clearly in the room. Danny half-expected his ghost sense to go off, but he had to remind himself it was just a video game. There wasn’t actually a ghost here.
“What happened?” Sam’s urgent voice said over the walkies.
“Ghost knocked something off the shelf down here,” Tucker said as his avatar walked over to the toolbox. “Ooh! We’ve got fingerprints!” he cheered as his avatar shined a light on a glowing handprint.
“Oh that’s so not how that works,” Danny complained, just to help lighten the mood. Honestly he felt a bit jumpy knowing that the ghost was in the room...and he couldn’t sense him. He’d dealt with invisible ghosts before, but his ghost sense always gave him a vague idea of where they were...except for now. He turned in his chair to check the room behind him. No ghosts, no ghost sense. It’s just in the computer game.
“Figures that the ghost would be in the basement,” Sam remarked as her avatar walked down the stairs and opened her journal. Right! Journal. Danny opened his and placed their one piece of evidence inside. The sooner they got all of those the sooner they could leave, and he really liked that idea.
“I’m not seeing freezing temperatures, but it is a little cooler than the rest of the house,” she continued. “So let’s start setting stuff up in here. Tucker get the DOTS up and I’ll place the camera. Danny place the spirit book.”
Okay, this wasn’t so bad with the three of them in the room. He could hear them moving around and he could see them, so it made him feel a bit better. And there was still no sign of the ghost. He put the spirit book down near the toolbox and looked away from it. Maybe the ghost wouldn’t write in it while he was watching? He didn’t know.
“Ooh!” Tucker cried excitedly.
“Did you see it in the DOTS?” Sam asked.
“No - Ouija board! Oh yeah!” Tucker cheered. “Now we’re getting somewhere.”
“Oh I love these,” Sam agreed. Danny’s brow furrowed as he looked at the screen. Why were they acting so happy - didn’t they forget there was a ghost in this room with them?
“Hang on, let Danny try the Ouija board,” Tucker suggested. “You know, because he’s never seen it before.”
“Ooh good idea,” Sam agreed. Danny walked over to where they were and saw Sam’s avatar set down a light brown board.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sus about your motives right now,” Danny said. He had a bad feeling about this...
“No Danny, it’s fine. These are actually pretty cool in this game,” Sam assured him. She quickly explained how the Ouija boards worked in the game and what questions to ask, and against his better judgment, he walked over and activated the board. The numbers and letters glowed orange against the light color of the wood.
He decided to start with something easy, so he swallowed and forced his voice to come out clear. “How old are you?” He jumped in his chair and his avatar backed up quickly as the planchette moved across the letters.
“Y - O - U - N - G,” Tucker read. “A young ghost.”
“Oh God, I hope that doesn’t mean it’s the crawling baby ghost,” Sam sighed. “I really hate that one.”
“Ask it something else,” Tucker encouraged.
“I don’t know,” Danny hedged. For some reason the Ouija board set him on edge. Something deep in his gut did not like this. Even if it wasn’t real and he kept telling himself it wasn’t real, he didn’t like it.
“No dude, it’s okay,” he assured him. “You can ask two questions before a significant sanity drop. Just ask it one more and you can go back to the truck.”
He very much wanted to go back to the truck. He just needed a chance to regroup. He was a ghost and fought ghosts for a living and he could not understand why this game unnerved him so much. But Danny Phantom wasn’t scared of ghosts, any kind of ghosts, and he wasn’t about to show it on a video game. “Fine,” he groaned as he picked up the board again. “Who died?”
This time he knew what to expect, and didn’t jump as much as the planchette started moving. First to the D, then to the A. Over to the N, then looping back to the N. It ended on a Y.
All three of them stopped moving. The silence became even more deafening around them. Danny dropped the Ouija board and backed up as far as the game would let him. He felt a cold sweat drip down his back. Danny. It spelled Danny. How did it know his name?
“...That has got to be a coincidence,” Sam finally said after the silence that seemed to stretch on forever.
“The ghost’s name must be Danny,” Tucker suggested, voice full of forced bravado.
“...No it’s Thomas,” Sam said slowly. “It must just be reading your username to scare you,” she decided.
“No my...my username is GhostBoy,” Danny reminded them, finally feeling like he could speak.
“Is this game actually haunted? Danny, what did you do?” Tucker accused, voice bordering on hysterics.
“What? I didn’t do anything!” Danny yelled back. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He put a hand up to feel his breath - still normal temperature. He looked around his room. There wasn’t a ghost here. But how did it know his name? And that he did almost die in a basement? “You’re the one that told me to use it!”
“Okay, let’s just calm down,” Sam interrupted. “It’s gotta be a coincidence. Let me try it and see if it says the same thing or gives me my name. It could be a new update that checks the name on the Steam account or something.”
Sam moved closer to the board, but before she could touch it all their flashlights flickered.
“Shit!” Tucker yelled.
“Run!” Sam cried in a panic.
Danny followed them up the stairs to the main level. The idea of running from a ghost, not fighting it, was so foreign to him, but he had no choice. He was powerless here. No ghost powers, no weapons, no thermos. He was completely helpless against this ghost.
He bolted for the garage, the one other room he knew how to get to. Sam’s avatar was running next to him. He could hear footsteps behind him and he swore as he ran towards the garage. Sam diverted into another room, but he continued into the garage. He found a locker he’d opened before and rushed into it. He barely remembered to turn off his flashlight and he waited. Seconds passed and he realized he was holding his breath. No...not holding his breath. Not breathing. He looked down at his hands and saw the glowing white gloves. When...when did he change into his ghost form?
Sam’s voice over the walkie startled him. “What the--? Oh my G--” The walkie feed cut to static and then nothing.
“I...I think it got Sam,” Tucker’s voice said over the walkie. Danny turned on his flashlight and saw that it was no longer blinking. He threw his head back in relief. The hunt was over. He climbed back out of his locker, keeping the door open again just in case.
“Dude, she was running right next to me. It must have followed her instead of me,” Danny told him. “Ugh, well what are we going to do now? She’s the only one who knew what she was doing!”
“Wait, I thought you would be a pro because you’re a ‘professional ghost hunter’ - isn’t that what you kept saying?” Tucker teased.
“Yeah, well I lied! This is nothing like ghost hunting!” he argued as he walked out of the garage. He was going back to the trailer. “Real ghost hunters would bring some kind of weapon and wouldn’t just run around helpless! We should just call it.”
“What? No! We’ve got two more pieces of evidence to collect. And we haven’t done any of the objectives! Tucker retorted.
“Fine!” he snapped as he walked down the main hallway. “if you want to keep looking for clues you can, but I’m going back to the trailer to check--”
The front door slammed shut. His flashlight blinked again.
“Shit!” Tucker cried.
Danny could hear the footsteps behind him. He could feel a heart thumping in his headset. He started running off to a room but stopped. No, he was not running again. He was going to stare this ghost down and prove that Danny Phantom was not scared of some ghost. His image struck fear in the hearts of ghosts and his name carried respect in the Ghost Zone. He was not going to let some video game ghost get the better of him and spook him with some Ouija board trick.
He turned around to face it, camera at the ready. If he was going down, he was getting a picture of it. The ghost blinked in the hallway and Danny saw the cause of his anxiety for the first time. The ghost floated down the hallway, with white hair and a black and white jumpsuit. It...it was him. The ghost was Phantom.
He completely forgot to take a picture as his own image rushed at him. He saw two gloved hands cover over the screen and then everything went dark. He heard the crash of breaking glass, saw a strange underground cavern for a second, and then he was back in a foggy blue version of the house.
The ghost of Sam’s avatar approached him, and he heard her laughing over the headset. It sounded like she’d been laughing for awhile. “Oh my god Danny, did you see the ghost?” she asked between laughs.
“It...that was...oh my God,” he groaned. It all made sense. Spelling Danny was likely an Easter egg, a cute nod to his name of Danny Phantom. The fact that it happened in the basement was just a coincidence, because it’s a creepy spot and a commonly haunted area. He hadn’t summoned anything. He wasn’t being targeted by some ghost in the computer. It was just an Easter egg paying homage to him.
Suddenly all the stress left him and he laughed. God, it felt so good to laugh after all that panic. This game had gotten him so worked up and over what? Over a ghost that looked like himself? Suddenly it all seemed so silly that it scared him that much. He had felt actual dread and fear, enough to trigger an unconscious transformation out of a need to protect himself, but there weren’t actually any real consequences. Now he just got to walk around unhindered in this ghostly version of the house, but nothing else actually happened.
Sam laughed along with Danny. “So you did see it then?”
“It was...oh my god Sam it was me! It looked just like me!”
“I know!” she exclaimed. “As soon as I saw it I forgot to keep running and stared. So of course it killed me. I did get a picture though,” she bragged.
“Oh man. I meant to, but I was just too stunned.” Now that he felt much better, he decided to wander around the house following Tucker who, for some reason, was still trying to finish the level on his own.
Sam suspiciously stopped her laughing. “Wait...Danny, your voice sounds weird. Are you...are you in your ghost form?”
Danny bit his lip as a slight blush graced his cheeks. “I don’t want to hear it.” But the telltale whoosh of the glowing rings turning him back to his human form seemed to be all the confirmation she needed. Except, he didn’t hear her laugh.
“...Danny, I wanted to apologize,” she said, and that made Danny stop moving and look quizzically at the screen.
“What? Apologize for what?” he asked.
“For goading you into playing this game,” she clarified, her voice surprisingly serious. “While I’ve been hanging out here in the spirit world, I realized why this game set you off so much.”
“What do you mean? I never said it set me off,” Danny defended. How could she possibly know that? He thought he was playing it pretty cool.
“Oh please,” she scoffed. “You’re in your ghost form and you were panicking after the Ouija board thing.”
“Hey you would panic too if--”
“Danny I’m trying to say that I get it,” she interrupted. “Being near a ghost without your powers? Without any weapons? Being powerless? It’s one of your biggest nightmares, that your powers will fail when you need them. And this game, it’s too close to home.”
Danny stopped moving and stared at the screen, because she was absolutely right. This was too close to home. How many times did he have to check to make sure his ghost sense wasn’t actually going off? How many times did he keep thinking about how similar everything felt to his own experiences? How unnerved he was about a ghost in the basement? It was too similar to his real life...except he had the tools he needed in his real life. Not a flashlight and some dumb spirit book, but actual real tools and powers and weapons, but here they were all taken away from him. Everything he relied on to fight ghosts had been stripped from him in the game and trapped him helpless in a house with his friends. Of course that bothered him. It was, as Sam said, one of his more recurring nightmares.
“...Yeah I think I’m good never playing this game again,” Danny admitted, the closest he planned to get to acknowledging everything she said was true.
“Honestly? I don’t blame you,” Sam agreed softly. “I think it’s easier for us because we’re used to this role: when there’s a ghost in the area, we help figure out what’s going on and support you. It’s not all that different from this game,” she explained. Her ghostly avatar followed Tucker out of the house and he followed after them. “But when you’re used to doing the fighting and defending and can’t...I guess it’s probably harder to separate yourself from the game.”
He reached behind him and rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah,” he sighed. As much as he hated to admit it, she was right. It was too similar to his daily life, and as he tried to argue at the beginning, he didn’t need to hunt fake ghosts poorly when he knew how to fight real ghosts well. “You know you sound like Jazz,” he pointed out, trying to lighten the mood and change the subject.
“Wow, you’re going to insult me after I tried to help you?” Sam scoffed. “See if I ever help you again!”
Danny smiled at the screen, glad to be back to the teasing. He definitely felt more relaxed and more like himself. “Oh look, Tucker’s finally calling it quits,” Danny observed as Tucker closed the door to the trailer.
“God, I can’t wait to find out if he saw you.” He could hear her grinning through the headset and honestly he felt the same. Out of all of them, Tucker would be the most excited about this addition.
The screen changed over to the menu screen, showing all their accomplished objectives. It also meant that all three party members could talk to each other again. “I can’t believe you left me!” Tucker complained. “It’s even worse when you’re in there on your own! Do you know how much more evidence we needed to collect? Um, a ton!”
Sam laughed, and Danny had to join in. “Okay so we are sorry about that, but Tucker did you ever see the ghost?”
“No, which is probably why I’m the only one that survived!” he complained.
“Oh my god Sam, he didn’t see it,” Danny groaned.
“Oh my god.”
“No wait, didn’t see what?” Tucker asked. His voice had calmed down a bit and was colored with curiosity.
“Tucker...the ghost was Danny,” Sam told him.
“Uh no, we clarified his name was Thomas,” Tucker corrected.
Sam and Danny both groaned. “No Tucker, the ghost was Danny Phantom. It was skinned to look like Phantom,” she clarified.
Tucker’s line sat silent for a long time before he finally exploded in a shower of shock, excitement, and regret. “NO WAY! No! That is so cool! I mean I knew the developers were fans, but this is so cool! Like literally the best tribute ever. Oh my god I can’t believe I missed it! No!” he cried. He was so loud into the microphone that Danny had a hard time believing Tucker didn’t wake his parents.
“It’s why both of us died,” Danny explained. “We were just too shocked seeing it.”
“We’re going back in. I need to see this,” Tucker demanded.
Danny bit his lip. He was not going back in. He meant it when he said he was done. He almost had his explanation on his lips before Sam spoke up first. “I doubt it’ll show up two times in a row. I Googled it and the skin will be here for the whole month of Halloween as a random draw, so you’ve got time to see it. But if you want to try again tonight, I’ll keep playing if you want. Danny...he needs to get some sleep.”
“What? No, it's so much easier with three people. Come on Danny,” Tucker pleaded.
“Nah, Sam’s right, I should go to bed. Gotta be rested for those real ghosts tomorrow,” Danny chuckled. “Besides, being killed by my own image was a little weird.” And also a little too close to home, considering some of his memories of Dan.
“Yeah, this game isn’t Danny’s jam,” Sam explained simply. He had a feeling Sam would talk to Tucker more about what they discussed while their avatars were dead, and honestly he didn’t mind. He didn’t want to keep secrets from Tucker, he just really didn’t want to talk about it any more tonight.
Tucker sighed. “Alright, fine, you’re off the hook. At least you gave it a try though.”
“I did, and you’re both gonna owe me one for doing it too,” Danny reminded them.
“Dude, pretty sure you’re in the negatives when it comes to IOUs from us,” Tucker pointed out with a good-natured laugh. “Testing out inventions, excuses at school, doing your homework, remembering the thermos when you forget it, distracting your parents…”
“Okay okay, I get it,” Danny groaned as he left the screen and exited out of the game. “Well fine, then I’m less in the negative now. And on that happy subject, I’m going to bed. Good night guys.”
“Good night Danny,” Sam replied. “We’ll see you tomorrow.”
Danny almost hung up on their private Discord server when he heard Tucker speak up. “Hey Danny, wait.”
“What?” he asked curiously, his mouse still hovering over the disconnect sign.
“The type of ghost...was a Phantom.”

maziekeen’s coloring tutorial (part 1, base)
part 2 for dark scenes here
before anything, here are some helpful resources for what i’m about to do cause i think you need to test everything to see what will work for you and will learn so damn much in the process:
how to use curves: curves tutorial by completeresources. and gif tutorial by barrysberkman. curves is the best and it’s what i use to “fix” the coloring before proceeding with the coloring
how to color yellow-ish/terrible scenes: coloring tutorial by jungshoseok. i’m always going back to this tutorial when i’m stuck with my coloring or need a reminder of a different way to color difficult scenes, and again, sami uses curves!
and there is more on my resources tag here
downloads/settings
download the psds
save for web settings
sharpen settings
text settings
crop sizes (new dimensions)
my ko-fi ♥
the tutorial, finally lol
tv show high fidelity. this gonna be simple scene before going to the annoying dark/yellow/green/blue scenes on the second part of the tutorial.
this is important: i don’t always get right the first time like i’m showing this tutorial. i do all this process and then go back to the layers and adjust a few to get what i want
before:
Tumblr media
after:
Tumblr media
1) curves. first i brighten the gif just a little with RGB so i can see how to color correct, and to do that i use the red, green, and blue there. instead of using them up, i decrease their values, trying to leave as natural/red/magenta as possible, sometimes i increase, like i did with blue, but it’s really just a bit
okay, what do i do? i decrease the color that’s bothering me. when you increase the RGB, the color that stand out is what you will use the others to fix. like this one, the gif got too yellow, so i decrease red. then it was too green, so that’s the next one to change. i get this “controlled” yellow, it’s good but i want more red-ish/magenta tone so i can work with the colors only later, so i increase the blue just a bit for that. then you get the result
i always try to "take off” the colors here so i have more control of them in the future and edit the way i want
Tumblr media Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
2) levels. i use for both darken and brighten, nothing too extreme
the white arrow to brighten, it depends on the gif, but since i'll use exposure to that later, i only use around 200 to 250
the gray one to darken, if you increase this one too much then you’ll be whitewashing the shit out of the gif, i only use this way or don’t use at all. exception if it’s a really dark gif
the dark one is to darken too, i use only around 0 to 10
Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
3) exposure. this one is the one i use to brighten, here the different is minimal, but in a dark gif this works really well as you’ll see on part 2. also, i know it looks like the levels was for nothing here, but most of the time you go back to previous layers and edit a bit more. or even after use exposure and need to darken, levels is there for it
exposure. i never use more than 1,00. and sometimes only +50 is enough in a dark gif
offset. nope, never, no
gamma correction. also, never use more than 1,10. sometimes 1,05 is more than enough
Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
4) gradient map. i wasn’t a fan, but now that i see the difference i’m always using it. i like that controls the dark parts of the gif, i could use more levels for that, but it would get weird
always soft light, and the fill i only use around 20%. sometimes my standard is 15%. i got this from sami’s tutorial and it’s amazing even tho it doesn’t look like much here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
5) color balance. i’m still in that thought of “taking off” the colors, because after this layer that i’ll edit them.but also here i fix the color if the gif is practically ready. i only used midtones, but sometimes i use highlights to make the gif as natural as possible. it doesn’t look like it changed much here, but you’ll probably get back here after finishing the psd to fix a thing or two
Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
6) selective color. the fun part! honestly, just mess around the colors. i can’t really say do this or that here because i change this a lot depending on the gif, so here are some tips:
reds and yellows. i use to fix whitewashing, make the person more vivid too, you know? usually i’ve been using magenta with yellow together, you have more control if the red will stay red or it will be pink-sh, and if the yellow will stay yellow or be around green
cyans and blues. if you come across a gif where the white is blue, you adjust this on cyans. decrease the cyan and mess around magenta and yellow
magentas and whites. sometimes the gif seems too red-ish, or something, so you decrease magenta and it will make a LOT of difference. the whites it’s helpful too when the white on the gif have another annoying color, you adjust here just like the cyans
neutrals and blacks. nothing hardcore, sometimes i don’t even use neutrals. and i used to use blacks on 10 and it’s just the worst on most of the gifs, so now i use top 5, depending on the gif
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
result:
Tumblr media
7) vibrance. i don’t overdo because it will ruin everything i edited previously, like, if add more vibrance the yellow would go crazy along with the background and ugh, this way is so clean and exactly what i want. so, i never use more than 50, some scenes are really with no color, so i use more
Tumblr media
final result:
Tumblr media
other examples using the same process are in the post previews since tumblr won’t let me add more gifs here ;)
PART 2 OF THE TUTORIAL HERE
there i’ll color dark/yellow-ish/blue scenes <3

but you’re so right roark was made to get stomped on and be your tutorial buddy but like....i did not expect so many people to be like “no he’s a fave” and i be like WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I WAS LIKE 10 PLAYING THIS. idk he’s been. a muse i’ve kinda wanted to write and it’s buddies like you that can give him the environment to thrive and fit into. i can fit so many useless tidbits of info in mildly obscure characters i cannot be stopped. thank YOU for indulging me in whatever the fuck they’re doing rn bc i’m loving it and you’re ruining my spoofy wrapped this year.
i’m so appreciative that you enjoy steven’s absolutely chaotic life bc i have way too much fun with it.. we need to write more muses together bc it’s very fun. and adaman is just the only sane bitch on this blog i’m pretty sure HE’S LITERALLY HERE TO VIBE AND BE SEXY. i hope he gets hooked on crush 40 so any of his descendants have absolute garbo taste in music. :)
( we don’t talk about zoroark. except that we do. a lot. i can’t wait for him to stab the depresstie. ♥ ) BUT FOR REAL THANK YOU.... i’m just a tired dad but i’ve enjoyed every moment chatting with you and completely destroying my sleep schedule in the process.

The One Where Marinette Meets Her 2nd Wayne #6
Part 1   Part 2   Part 3   Part 4   Part 5   Part 7
Panic. Panic wasn’t an uncommon feeling but one that was not welcomed. She had felt it everyday in Paris. The alarms with their high pitched screeches alerting everyone of the danger. That it was time for their heroes’ to come out and save the day like every time beforehand. Akuma alarms were something she was all for but the sounds they made terrified Marinette to her core. Yet, this wasn’t what was causing her to freak out. No, it was something else entirely but the same amount of panic.
Marinette was running late to school. Her first day of school.
You would think she would have kicked the habit but Marinette still couldn’t get her life together enough to wake up with her alarm.
‘Maybe she should change the ringtone to an akuma alarm? That would surely get her out of bed.”, she thought while hopping down the sidewalk pulling her sock up.
Once secured just below her knee, Marinette took off into a sprint towards her school.
‘If I changed it into an akuma alarm I might transform and jump out my window half-asleep.’, she reasoned with herself.
Slowing her speed down to a fast walk, Marinette started her way towards her first class. She had just toured this god-forsaken building and couldn’t remember for the life of her where to go! Everything looked so different with students now in the hallways, most taller than her. Seriously, what did people in America eat? Everyone looked like they grew like weeds.
Focus! She stared at her schedule shuffling her feet to ensure she didn’t trip. Shifting her gaze just above the paper to avoid bodies coming towards her Marinette began to commit it to memory. There must have been a crowd because she got stuck behind people not walking and had to maneuver her way past all of them. What she didn’t realize was that they were surrounding someone. Then she walked straight into that someone.
///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~///~
Damian was anything but a ‘happy camper’ this morning. Jon had left that summer on some out of this world mission for who knows how long. His father no longer wanted him to attend the school the two had previously gone to and transferred him to one closer to home. It was his first year of high school and to add to it, he was given the task of babysitting one of Selina’s pets. So no, he was not looking forward to this school year. As if it couldn't get worse, many of Gotham’s Academy's students knew of his name and decided that the best way to interact was to gawk. Seriously, Damian was only rich; it's not like he was an idol or something. He was trudging his way to his class when he felt something ram straight into his back.
‘Breath. Father would be disappointed if you snapped at a fellow student on the first day’, he told himself. Luckily, the person who ran into him spoke before he could insult her.
Marinette was panicking. Again! Isn't she carrying the goddess of luck in her backpack? Why is her life so unlucky? Not only did she bump into someone, they were super tall compared to her. They were also the person the crowd had been surrounding. Which in turn meant they were important. So what did Marinette do?
“Je suis vraiment désolé monsieur! Je ne voulais pas faire ça, mais je dois y aller!”, she rushed out before walking past him.
( Translation: I'm very sorry sir! I didn't mean to do that, but I must get going! )
Why did she speak in French! Stupid fight or flight instincts making her switch to her native language. Hopefully no one paid attention and wouldn’t question her on it. Cover story, cover story, think of your cover story. Oh who was she kidding, Marinette couldn’t lie to save her life!
She calmed down before entering the classroom. The desks were the standard science class tables and you were supposed to sit with a partner much like Ms. Mendeleive’s class back in Paris. Most students already knew others from previous grades so it would be easier for her to stay out of peoples ways for now. Her mind drifted back to Paris as she claimed an empty seat. They would have already started school last week. Could they be struggling on the information? Hawkmoth interrupted a lot of school days with his akuma’s. Then again, it was only Ms. Bustier’s class that ever ran off then followed the school's protocols. Alya who would risk anything for the scoop. Lila or Cholé would run because they would be the main targets. Her and Adrien would have run to transform and defeat them.
Marinette knew the Kwami magic protected their identity but she still kicked herself for not recognizing it until Adrien detransformed in front of her. He was very upset that she took his ring without giving him her identity. Adrien eventually understood that as Grand Guardian it would be a liability.
The bell ringing drew her back to reality as she turned back to what the teacher was saying.
“ Good morning, everyone! I’m Ms. Jones and I’ll be your Pre-AP Biology teacher this year. I’ll call roll while you guys get out your science journals! Be sure to say ‘here’ when I say your name.”, she explained.
Marinette pulled her black bag onto her lap and smiled as she took out the 3-subject spiral. The Kwami’s had encouraged her to make a bag to carry the box back in Paris. It was a simple backpack but had the symbol for each Kwami. Tikki explained the symbols were forms of blessings. Like how Master Fu’s box actually represented prosperity in Chinese culture. Each Kwami symbol gave her blessings, like good luck and protection with Tikki and Wayzz. It even had a false bottom where the condensed version of her Ladybug egg fit. Neither she nor the kwami’s wanted to leave it at the apartment all day. So she sewed some extra material to cover it and put all her school supplies on top. Setting it back down under her desk, she flipped to the first page of her journal. She said here when her name was called and tuned out until Ms. Jones started speaking again.
“Now that I have taken attendance, feel free to talk to your neighbor while I hand out this year's syllabus! These will be your seats until the end of the six-weeks.”, the teacher announced. This would have been fine for Marinette if it wasn’t for who decided to sit next to her. She turned in her seat to meet the boy from the hallway.
“Je m'appelle Damian. Ravi de vous rencontrer.”, he said. In French.
“I can speak English. My name is Marinette, again sorry for running into you! There were just so many people, some weren’t even moving and I wasn’t paying attention and I am rambling. Sorry.”, she muttered with a shy smile at the end.
“It’s quite alright. May I ask what caused the language change? Usually I make the mistake when I am passionate about something. Though, I don’t think you are passionate about apologizing.”, Damian asked.
This could go two ways. She could admit she was terrified of him or play it cool and stick to her backstory?
The latter of the two for sure!
“This is my first time in Amer- real school! I have been homeschooled until now. I got nervous about what I was supposed to say, overthinked, and reverted to my first language.”, Marinette explained.
He let out a hum as the teacher put the syllabus on their desk with information on the class, tutorials, and how to contact her. They were told to glue or tape it onto the first page.
“So, your language trigger is the feeling of being overwhelmed. How many do you know?”, he asked.
“I guess you could say that. For sure French, English, and Mandarin. I learned the basics of Japanese and Vietnamese for old acquaintances. Oh, and Italian because of my grandmother!”, she exclaimed. The Guardian language couldn’t be mentioned but that made seven.
That’s what they did in their free time. The two talked about everything they knew and had learned. Turns out they both were ahead than normal students, but Marinette knew she was anything but normal. They actually had five of the seven classes together. Neither he or she knew sign-language so that was deemed a fun class to Marinette. American school was not as bad as Marinette had thought it would be as she walked to work.
She tied her apron on before starting her task of meeting each plant's needs. The Daisies were already complaining about how thirsty they were and begged to be water.
“Ah, Hello Mari-gold! Wasn’t today your first day of school?”, Ivy questioned.
Marinette grabbed the water mister, “Yup!”
‘Well, how was it? Harley and Selina would want to know.”, she continued.
“Hmm. It was great! The clubs will be opening in two weeks so I plan to join an art one. Do we have more plant food in the back?”, Marinette said.
“Yes, just behind flower pots. I’m glad you enjoyed it.”, answered Ivy.
“I think I’ll have to start packing lunch, however. I know it’s an academy but the cafeteria food is still terrible.”, she joked.
“Yeah, I think it’s just a school thing. Oh, that reminds me, Harley wants to bake more of those cookies with you. I quote, ‘I would totally adopt her if we had more room at our place just for cookies.’ She has a serious love of chocolate chips!”, sighed out Ivy.
“While the thought is nice, I have to decline the adoption. How does Friday sound?”, Marinette laughed.
“Perfect!”
Guess What! I actually have the outline for this story and how it will end and everything! Now I just have to write it all... T . T

Pokèmon World Magazine: Porygon Net (Various Issues)
We’ve had a very long streak of Photoset posts lately, didn’t we? Let’s have a little break from anime and tie-in games and let’s go back to oldschool Pokèmon and my favourite childhood magazine, Pokèmon World!
This summer I'm working on my own portfolio site: it's getting built from scratch and, due to the kind of art it's going to showcase, I'm designing its layout to look like one of those old personal pages a lot of Internet users used to have back in the first 2000s. This choice was also influenced by one of my childhood dreams, which was, infact, owning a corner of the Net all for myself; without the right equipment or spare money to purchase a domain, though, the idea of having my page online was only hypotetical, so all I could do was designing some cute layouts on Microsoft Frontpage and admiring what others were doing. Of course, as Pokèmon was my main interest at the time, I found the Porygon Net section of Pokèmon World mag to be extra inspirational.
Porygon Net was a very small section with just a double page: every month, the magazine's staff would choose and review an italian site dedicated to everyone's favourite monsters. These online corners were, most of the times, built by fellow readers and fans who sometimes even wrote back either by mailing the staff or boasting about it on their site's news section, thanking for the feature and the subsequent wave of new visitors. As these places were built by teens or even kids (I may have seen some online pages managed by 10 year olds at the time o.o), their quality varied greatly depending on their web-making skills: some were very simplistic, other more orderly and neat, and some... showed potential, but needed more work. Pokèmon World's staff, though, never mocked these attempts, and instead also published suggestions to make certain parts of the site more functional and pleasing to the eye. I found this very encouraging, and I wonder if many of these people have continued with a career in the online world.
I went and browsed among my mag issues to find some sites to showcase: I mostly picked the ones that stuck in my mind since reading about them, or that I actually used to visit back in the day. Wayback Machine may have not been kind to the italian community, and I fear the majority of these sites are now lost; however, I'll post links if, surprisingly, I find them still alive!
Issue 4: Pokemon Mania
The pictures have been displayed in chronological order, but I still would've chosen to display this site first as I used to actually visit it before it was featured on Pokèmon World. Due to its easy and straightforward name, Pokèmon Mania was one of the first fansites to show up on the search engine if you ever looked for more Pokèmon content. It was managed by a guy with the alias of Professor Kao, and the whole feeling of the site was that of a Pokemon lab at the start of your monster journey. Though it wasn't exactly a marvel in terms of layout esthetic, the site aimed to amaze with content: it had simple browser fangames, a section dedicated to drawing tutorials (with pictures taken from japanese sources- which at the time were very scarce and hard to get!), many sections dedicated to the Cardgame (apparently, the main focus of Kao's Pokèmon interests) and its live tournaments, and one centered on the monsters' trivia. One very interactive section even proposed quizzes given by the webmaster himself that visitors could answer via mail: Kao would then contact winners and even send out special official merch like Pokèmon Center plushies or other branded toys. Generous! This site has been preserved in the Wayback Machine with a lot of snapshots, though unfortunately without many graphics. We can still navigate and read most of the sections!
Issue 20: Pokemon Museum
My second site of choice striked me with its very homely layout: even looking at the snapshot in its article feels like I'm viewing a cozy corner of the Net, in which the webmaster poured its personal thoughts and passions more than providing a service like PokèmonMania did. The issue is number 20 and quite some months have passed: online trends regarding these kind of pages had changed a bit and now people preferred to offer their own content instead of copy-pasting what Nintendo produced. Pokèmon Museum's graphics have all been drawn by the owner, Kabutops: the background texture, banner, and a lot of the graphics all around the sections! Kudos for being to prolific and precise during a period in which digital art still hadn't reached its peak popularity, and drawing tablets were only restricted to professionals. Going past the many sections dedicated to the anime, games and lore, one interesting aspect was the beginning of affiliates: fellow webmasters were starting communicating with eachother and sharing their visits by dedicating a little button to other sites. I loved the affiliates section because, once finished looking through a site, I could click on the cute little rectangle banners and find myself in another home without passing from Google searches! But webmasters wouldn't affiliate with everyone, and for the purpose of only interacting with other best Pokèsites, awards had become popular as well: graphics that people would exchange after rating a site and feeling impressed with their content, presentation, or popularity. Pokèmon Museum's magazine review focused on its affiliates and the awards, inviting fellow readers to have their site reviewed by Kabutops. Unfortunately, the site is not present on Wayback Machine. I'll never know if Kabutops came back updating its museum after summer vacations :(
Issue 35: TBPS
Let's have another jump of several months; issue 35 featured a page under the bigger domain Pokevalley and named itself The Best Pokèmon Page, rather narcissistic! This was one of those rare times Pokèmon World featured an english-speaking site. The layout doesn't impress me too much, yet the fact that the header reads "Crystal Water Version" conveys that the webmaster(s) used to periodically change aspect and palette of their site, an activity that proved to be very prolific for many page owners at the time: sites were often in construction, and people were experimenting with different colours or HTML code tricks to impress viewers and reviewers, have as many affiliates as possible and collect positive awards from other sites. Such was popularity, back in the day! The site has a long menu with many sections dedicated to the main games and movies; although, none of those pages were catching anyone’s attention anymore as everyone had the same copypasted guides and info; instead, what’s interesting is the hefty section dedicated to browser games, the big menu with pages concerning the site and staff themselves, and the oekaki board! Oekakis were very popular in that period, as it allowed fellow aspiring artists to meet eachother and show off their own skills by drawing live! If a site hosted one, they could quickly become a melting pot of creativity. Wayback Machine, sadly, doesn’t have anything concerning this site as well.
Issue 36: Arcywof
We’re back on italian sites with a page that definitely impressed even Pokèmon World’s staff for its pleasing graphics. When I first saw this among the magazine’s pages... my eyes lit up! I can’t hide that after seeing its beautiful palette, checkered background and condensed menu, teen me adopted Arcy & The Fire Pkmn as design guru: many of my subsequent mockup pages had exactly this layout, or variations of it. It’s too bad, though, that aside from the beautiful presentation, the site’s contents aren’t exactly interesting: the Pokèmon images are ripped straight from Nintendo’s official archives, and most sections are concerning the anime’s characters, episode plots, and broadcasting dates. However, Arcywof also offers a forum and a live chat, which definitely helped the staff build an interactive and affectionate community around it. Among all reviewed here, I’m most bitter that Wayback Machine hasn’t archived this site, because seriously, it’s a little jewel ;w; its pastel colours and checkered texture remind me of candy shops!
Issue 38: Pokemon Super Site
I wanted to finish this little jump in the past with a positive note and show at least one more saved address from Wayback Machine. Although not in its updated version originally featured in Pokèmon World Issue 38, Pokèmon Super Site has been archived and it’s more or less complete to explore. It’s too bad a lot of the graphics haven’t survived but hey it’s something! It’s 2003, and the trend has changed once again: forums are as popular as ever and considered one of the most successful ways to build a solid audience for one’s own page, which are now treated more like portals or an extension to the forum itself. Super Site’s sections are centered on game guides, nothing too special, but I do love the grey and white grid background on menus and header, as if we’re viewing a notebook page; reminds me of school days. I also really like the gifs section as featured in the review, all those old graphics bring back so much memories of scouting the net to save them all on hard drive!
If you stumble upon one of these sites in Wayback Machine, chances are the ever present affiliates buttons will still be working, allowing you to visit even more fansites. It’s a true trip to the past, and a never ending source of inspiration for me!

i suddenly got this idea where izuku is an anonymous famous editor for youtubers who hire him to edit their videos because he’s a professional at doing it, and katsuki is an upcoming youtube vlogger who travels around the world and yet doesn’t know how to edit his own videos to save his life, so no matter what he does, he always seem to mess up even the basics of editing (part 1/??)
“i think you need professional help” kirishima says as he watches katsuki trying to drag an edited cut on to his video for the umpteenth time that day “shut up, shitty hair just give me a minute-” an error popup. “did you just.. deleted the video?” “....”
katsuki keeps trying, he even watched tutorials on youtube (while skipping important segments ofc because he can totally do that all on his own!) but his patience is wearing thin until kirishima recommended him to someone who’s known in the youtube community for their famous editing skills
“..deku?” katsuki stares at his screen showing a youtube profile with the name deku as their username and an icon of all might with edited-in sunglasses “okay look, he may seem suspicious to you, but i gotta tell you bakugou, he’s legit, i’ve seen his videos and they look awesome!” well katsuki will be the judge of that despite this deku having 5 mil+ subscribers than him!
the blonde spent the whole day watching deku’s videos which mostly consists of amvs (anime music videos) and games, especially the ones that required a lot of effort to make, plus he even made tutorials! so he gotta give him credit for that, but alas, katsuki is still somehow having trouble following directions and gave up on the latest tutorial video on how to add an easy transition
when kirishima came to check in with katsuki, all he heard were multiple clicks and grumbled noises, he let out an exasperated sigh “i can’t believe you’re still trying..” “what the fuck do you want me to do kirishima?” katsuki was trying not to flip his table at this point. “hire him obviously!” the red head yells out as if that’s the answer to their problems “..and how do you suppose i do that?”
it actually took a lot of convincing in kirishima’s part, but katsuki finally threw away his pride and decided to send a message to deku’s business email that was left under his about page on youtube
“..i want you to become my editor and help me in becoming the #1 youtube travel vlogger in the community” kirishima reads the message out loud that’s displayed on the screen, “you sure you want to send it like this?” “i don’t see anything wrong with it?” “but don’t you think it’s too.. blunt? no formalities or anything like, hello i’ve seen your videos and i would be honored to have you as my editor, you know?” katsuki just shrugged, “it’s too late, i already sent it to him”
about half a day later, deku replied back, “Good afternoon Mr.Explosionmurder, I appreciate that you requested me to become your editor and would like to discuss further details about our agreement via discord. You can contact me by adding my username, deku#2463. I look forward to hearing from you.” to this day, kirishima still can’t believe his eyes when he read the message
“oi shitty hair, what’s a discord?”
it wasn’t katsuki’s fault that the majority of time he spent in high school was doing his best to stay on top of assignments and projects, plus being in the A honor roll, he didn’t really get to decide on his career until after he graduated, thanks to the courtesy of his parents owning their own modeling industry, he put the money he saved up to good use in traveling around the world and vlogging it for people to see with kirishima as his traveling partner
he explained all of this and his reasonings to deku on discord once he reached out to him and figured out how to use the platform, but katsuki was still suspicious regarding his video editing skills and wanted to see it firsthand on how his videos would look like as a finished product
deku: fair enough, send me your videos and i’ll see what i can do, until then, if you deem it satisfactory, which i’m confident that you will, i request a 50/50 payment on your revenue. take it or leave it.
for some reason, katsuki agreed to it without a second thought due to the challenging tone from the message; “i can’t believe you! i told you to trust him! why do you have to doubt him?! haven’t you already seen his videos?!” kirishima was full on panicking at this point, how were they going to make money?! “shut up, i know what i’m doing! i know what’s best for my videos!” it was a good chance too since they’re currently in hong kong and planning to shoot the top 10 tourist spots to visit as claimed by an article he found online
a few days later, katsuki finally got all the videos piled up in one folder and sent them all in a google drive to share with deku just as he requested, he even mentioned to him thru discord message to follow the cues he was giving him on his videos such as when he and kirishima took a stroll and tried foods in the temple street night market; “hey deku, i want you to do a close up of kirishima eating the curry fish ball with erotic music playing in the background” he smirks while focusing the camera on the red head eating without a care in the world and not noticing katsuki making the comment, “mmm dude, mmm you gotta try this, it’s so freakin’ good- wait bro, how long have you been pointing the camera at me?”
in less than a week, deku sent a reply back with the link to the fully edited video; deku: hmm, not gonna lie, but your cues were actually helpful and dare I say, creative? katsuki took it as a compliment and opened the link to the video file, it was about a few GB so it shouldn’t take a long time to upload on youtube, but.. was it ready? he called in kirishima to watch it with him and was actually prepared for it to look horrible despite deku’s obvious talent except.. it was actually pretty good?? better even?! “what did i tell ya katsuki? i told you he was legit,” his partner boasted, just earlier he was embarrassed when the part about him eating the curry fish ball with the “let’s get it on” music in the background showed up while the blonde just rolled his eyes.
explosionmurder: thanks, and i just saw it, consider yourself hired deku: happy to be of service! i’m looking forward to working with you, mr.explosionmurder! it would be helpful again if you provided the cues during your journey! :)  explosionmurder: don’t mention it and also don’t call me that, call me katsuki  deku: okay, mr.katsuki! [all might emoji]
kastuki found it odd that he became really eager during the exchange but thought nothing of it
a couple of months flew by and katsuki with kirishima in tow have already travelled in 4 other different countries, he even received about 500k+ subscribers, he’s almost to 1 million! as per agreement, he gives half of his revenue to deku which was okay with him since he still has a lot of saved up money in the bank including kirishima’s since they’re sharing it anyway, most of the time, his communication with deku have been entirely professional with a few emojis in between (usually deku’s part), until today that is
deku: it must be nice to travel 0:  explosionmurder: pfft, what are you talking about? you now have over 7 mil+ subscribers in your channel since i met you, you can go traveling whenever or wherever you want  deku: i can’t  explosionmurder: what do you mean you can’t?
no reply
since then, katsuki didn’t want to think too much on what deku said and focused mostly on traveling, those videos won’t work themselves! after he finished, he sent over the videos of his recent trip from india over to deku and as usual, deku delivered it back beautifully edited along with a message
deku: that’s so cool! you guys went to india? *o* [link to video edit] explosionmurder: yeah, you should’ve seen shitty hair when he tried that really spicy curry, which reminds me, you did what i asked right? deku: of course mr. katsuki! as always, i’ve paid attention to every cue you asked for! [saluting pepe emoji] explosionmurder: good good, i didn’t just hire you to sit on your ass all day  deku: haha you’re not my only contractor you know ^^”  explosionmurder: is that what you meant when you said you couldn’t travel because you’ve been busy? way to be blunt katsuki, he mentally berated himself, but at least deku answered this time, although reluctantly deku: ...let’s just say im stuck at home  in that very moment, is when everything changed between them explosionmurder: alright nerd, you sound depressed as hell so i’m going to give you the decision to decide on where we’re going to travel to next, think of it as a reward for all you’ve done for us  deku: asdkjflas that’s too much! T_T are you sure mr. katsuki??? explosionmurder: i’m waiting, you got 3 seconds starting now, 3  deku: america! i’ve been wanting to go to america...
katsuki told kirishima his plans, then the spiky red head gave him a pat on the back and a thumbs up, “so you do have a sentimental bone in your body!” kirishima was almost close to being dead that very same day
when they arrived to america, he asked deku the list of things he wanted to see and most of them were, “all might amusement park, all might cafe, all might- is there anything else the nerd likes besides all might and superheroes?” katsuki says while viewing the list in the hotel they’re staying at. “give him a break, you said so yourself that he couldn’t leave his house, so this is the least we can do for him and for all the hard work he put in our videos,” kirishima reasoned with him
on the last day of their trip, katsuki did his routine in piling the videos together and sending them to deku with the attached message, “i actually bought you a souvenir if you want it, looked like the type of shit you would like, you’ll see what it is in the videos i’ve sent you” they’ve known each other long enough so he thought why the hell not, it’s just a matter of getting his PO address, and the response to this was immediate, “AAA I SAW IT! THANK YOU THANK YOU!” <3<3 <(^w^<)
it was an all might limited edition figurine only available in the US
for the first time, deku took two days longer to finish than katsuki expected him to since they’ve started because he always goes through them pretty quickly, maybe he’s too busy making them look up-to-par? whatever the case was, when katsuki received the video, it already had a title for it, “MY AWESOME TRIP TO AMERICA PLUS ULTRA!” kirishima just laughed and told him to keep it in honor of deku so he left it like that, “this better give me some views,” he grumbled and uploaded it the night before they went to bed, he wasn’t really worried in checking it out either because he has faith in deku’s abilities
the morning after was hectic, katsuki has been receiving notifications upon notifications on the “travel bros” (courtesy of kirishima) twitter since last night, one in particular caught his eye, “i can’t believe deku and katsuki are dating! who would’ve thought!” what?
a short video appeared underneath that came from the video he uploaded, and regretfully never took a look at, showing katsuki saying to the camera as he held the AM figurine, “deku, you should’ve been here, look at what i got you, nerd,” at first glance, it was supposed to look normal (from the original video!) except hearts and sparkles began appearing around katsuki as he smirks up at the camera, what the fuck? besides, deku was suppose to edit that all out! for every cue in every part where he says deku’s name, he was expected to delete them like he usually does! even though it was no secret that deku was his video editor, he distinctly remembers mentioning about him in a video they took way back when they first started out their contract agreement
meanwhile, kirishima was having a field day, he finally saw their video while katsuki kept on seeing other short videos of him on twitter from different segments of the trip in which he either had sparkles or hearts around him, especially when he mentions deku’s name; “bro you won’t believe this, our subscribers grew up to over 1 million last night!” kirishima yells enthusiastically, but when he noticed katsuki not paying attention to him, he looked over his shoulder to check what he was looking at. “oh that, you know those aren’t fanmade videos, right?” katsuki unblinkingly turned to look at him, “you mean..?” kirishima gave him a toothy grin, “yep!”
a video call from discord, “dekuuuu, what is the meaning of this?” a squeaky voice, “i-I’m so sorry i got carried away and i couldn’t help it! all might was too beautiful including you and-!” “..what did you just say?”
TBC maybe?
