SDV car headcannons

[this gets pretty specific because i've had way too much time to think about it]

1. Harvey

Harvey drives an old, beat-up red Ford Ranger. It's a standard transmission, and the clutch is super finicky, so when he tries to drive other cars, he has a bad habit of shoving in the clutch too hard (or if it's an automatic, slamming on the break, thinking it's the clutch). It was a gift from his parents when he started med school. It was old when they bought it, but Harvey does his best to maintain it. He's not a "truck guy," but he changes his own oil and keeps it running well. He would like to buy a Subaru because quote, "they're very safe cars," but he doesn't use his truck a lot as it is, so he doesn't see a need to get a new car.

2. Leah

Leah drives a silver Subaru Baja. You can not convince me otherwise. She views cars as a necessary evil. It wasn't really all that useful in the city, but she's glad to have it now that she lives in Pelican town. It's well-loved, and it's pretty beat-up, but Leah says it works fine for what she needs it for.

3. Shane

He drives a 1999 Ford Taurus in that weird pinky-gold color. It smells like pizza and pepper poppers, and there are feathers in the backseat. Sometimes, he'll let Jas sit on his lap in the driver's seat and let her steer while he works the pedals. Mayor Lewis caught them once and was not happy. Shane does it anyway because it makes Jas happy.

4. Sebastian

He drives a motorcycle, lol. I admittedly do not know very much about motorcycles, but it looks like a blue Kawasaki Vulcan to me, but idk. (If you know more about motorcycles, feel free to give your two cents)

5. Sam

Sam does not have his own car, but he frequently borrows the family van. It's a silver 2003 Honda Oddysey. The van lands him with driver duty for the band and their equipment.

6. Elliott

Elliott disagrees with cars ideologically. He had a grey 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander that he inherited from his aunt. He sold it before he moved to Pelican town. He thinks it's more romantic to walk everywhere, but if you ask him why he walks everywhere, he'll say, "Because of the environment."

7. Penny

Penny doesn't drive. Pam tried a million times to teach her, but Penny just doesn't want to. She doesn't trust herself with such heavy machinery.

8. Maru

Maru does not have a car but will borrow Robin's work truck if she needs to. Sebastian definitely taught her how to ride a motorcycle. One of her many ongoing projects is a custom bike for Sebastian. Demetrius was very insistant that she learned to drive stick.

9. Abigail

Abigail does not know how to drive. Pierre was too busy, and Caroline never felt the need to teach her. She's happy to explore by foot, so it doesn't really bother her.

10 & 11. Emily & Haley

Their parents bought them a 2012 light green Toyota Prius to share. Haley thinks it's cute and Emily likes that it's a hybrid. Haley says eventually she might buy a blue Volkswagen Bug.

12. Alex

Alex doesn't drive and it's a sore subject for him. Don't bring it up. He might end up crying. He's always said that he would want a green Dodge Charger as soon as he learns to drive.

The electric Tron cycle did save the day and they were buying them up Tommy eftwise and took them down and we were forced to do something we're now selling it from the electric motorcycle Company it's the one battery list it has no battery except the small one to start the motor up and he's going after them and we know he is and he's going after Max and they get it it's different now it's not that we have to go in Mac has to it's going to work better and our son is saying we should make a truck but we're transferring all the electric motor Company motorcycles over unless someone wants batteries and we know about that and a lot do no only more luck cuz they trust the tech and or want to use it and they never end up doing it but they love it they really drive around all day long and they have a funny look in their face cuz I having a good time you know and even Jeff he loves it he's got this big bobblehead a large helmet and he's got a stupid smile I'm not spending any electricity we have a noise maker cuz I got those and lights so put the noise maker on I finally see something stop doing that s*** LOL I get what happened Mike the maintenance man hit me and Beaumont and panty and I'm suing him. And it is Tommy afflu shot at her son three times and it bounced off and it did go into someone else it wasn't Ken it's a guy nearby he was saying you shot me to our son said no I came from over there we don't have any guns and they checked them pretty good and had to pull his shirt off so you saw the cops and it smelled the gun and they went after him as Tommy f and he was hit in the gut it went in all the way and yeah out the other side.

All of the electric motorcycle Company motorcycles are going to be batteryless there's only a small one to start it and it means that you won't have to charge batteries. It's a huge huge number of sales. It's almost too many and our son has an idea that's pretty stellar he wants to do it to a couple companies and maybe Hera will, he wants to donate a certain percentage of sales for a month or so to the relief effort in Florida and parts of the East Coast maybe not DC for protecting antiquities and that would be Briggs and Stratton and the new electric motor motorcycle company and he's going to go ahead because we're going to go ahead and she's looking at the idea and has a few ideas of her own and maybe even Willy Wonka and Apollo and got his wife say no unless it's his version it says I've been robbed says okay go ahead says no no I've been robbed twice so Apollo and got his wife are going ahead and doing that job and he says I've been paid three times and four cuz you're going to fix the verbiage and it's not a joke but he's just saying it American slang and we're going ahead with this idea and he wants to make an electric truck with a new motor and he doesn't think that he should do it briggs and Stratton and there's been several companies that have tried. The Ford motor Company is one of them and he says that that Hera could do it with her version and she approves and says it's a different patent buddy and let me see the patent... We're going to help with it it's a pilot program and the warlock needed a little small they'll use it in the max needed to fight the clones and they need it pretty soon and it's going to be high capacity because the motor can be pretty big the way the motor is hooked up to the transmission transfers the load to the transmission mostly and it is a Wonder and you can get standard automatic and it doesn't matter I'm going to help design it and build it and I'm helping Hera and we're going to work on it me and Freya and Hera and her team and we've got friends there Brothers and sisters in Christ and Frank Castle Hardcastle newcomb Blockbuster and that's what we can call it very appropriate she says. And we're going to sit down and design it tomorrow it's kind of getting late we have a big show tonight everybody's happy about it and we fixed up the cafeteria he had some things in it but she wants memorabilia and other s to remind us of what time it is and what holiday it is that's a great idea it's like a brainchild I was thinking wallpaper and drapes he was but okay all sudden she says well that's terrific. The number of sales is ridiculous again and we're seeing who's buying them is the max and the clones and foreigners too and we're hiring hours and people are signing on and they get it now we're getting tons of help. Is a huge huge movement to work for us finally. And the paying attention is removed our empress and it's moving along it shows progress.

The numbers are kind of crazy for the electric motorcycle company the standard sport bike is approximately 20 octillion in area in sales and we have a few other bikes he knows about we have a REV trike an Enduro type, and we have a new one that's a cruiser type but it's really not really a full cruiser it's more like the roadster and there's a couple more a larger superbike and kind of like a sports to look like now I added that he doesn't know about that we have a noise maker too not many people want it it's a safety device but we use lights our lights are pretty bright you have two settings. Now these are selling extremely fast already but our announcement of simple facts about them increases sales and we'll probably be up to octillan and each area has like 4,000 octillion people. We should max out about 200 octillion a day for a week would be one one out of four people would have one that's actually too many so we have to see where they're going if they're buying that many but individuals are buying them so it's going to be a war and they're not really interested in fighting over Briggs and Stratton motorcycles or dirt bikes or cars they're just selling like hotcakes people need transportation. Our pickup truck should be out tomorrow at Ford and he's asking if he can make one and she says yes he's competing so we release it later she's going to release it at 9:00 a.m. so he's still working on it he's hoping to release it tomorrow he might have it in the afternoon he says and she says okay. And it's working on for real okay and in testing it and it's been going out for a while but he wants to make sure it's the right version and he knows about the heavy duty part this electric pickup truck will carry 3500 lb until 6,000 is a full size pickup but it's lighter than a regular pickup by a lot doesn't have the fuel necessity it has more cargo space the bed is deeper and suspension is independent and the motor is not and it is very tough and all-wheel drive on the fly as well it's a wonderful vehicle Willy Wonka candies are coming out now and of course they're going to be all over the place except for here and it's working great

We're watching these shows and people having a lot of trouble surviving that don't have power and they're going for power now and they're looking for devices and high-tech stuff and heard about the predators and they're searching below and you're seeing that they were there they said they're gone and they feel bad because they're idiots and we're shouting and screaming that they said he found selling and you don't know if he's imitating them or not and suddenly they get mad and said we do see what you're saying we may have done a very good job and don't know it but we were hit pretty bad and they're trying to figure it out and a lot of people are. You tell him you too muto and muto are at Hawaii no they're taking off shortly though they're in Japan and it is night time and it won't be night time for much longer and they go to Hawaii and they fly into Las Vegas before sunrise and yeah lays eggs. So we're counting on them to be there but they already are and they left here early and they're working on it but what a wonderful day and what a wonderful couple of these two are and we took over tons of businesses working very hard we have tons of people signing on and it works and it's beautiful it's just a Godsend and they know that it's been a long time and too long for us and they're helping and all the younger helping it's kind of frustrating and scary but he's told us what to do and we're doing it and it's helping. We owe him but he says it's our way so we do what we can but really for the program it's going to work and he had an idea that he thinks will work today. And he can't recall it it was something like if I get money from a certain way and party that it would be something they were trying to use and it would be John remillard and that's right and it would be trying to keep him out. And in doing so would raise a revolution and against Max and Mac says that's not what it would be and her son argues and it's true it probably would work some actors going to work on it

Wow, I didn’t think updating the transmission software would solve the jerking behavior under certain conditions during initial acceleration. I just thought the car’s gearing was set up that way, and I just adapted to it with my pedaling habit. Turns out the software installed at the factory might not be fully compatible to the model being produced. Probably enough customers reported such issue so they started looking into it lol. But otherwise the DCT has been extremely smooth. I always see cars alongside me with normal transmission dropping behind a bit every time they shift because of the gap in power output between gears. I’m glad they found the issue and the solution for it. Car has been perfected now. How we can imagine Koko and Inupi having some domestic life, sharing a appartment, and being happy together. Because it can be canon now, right? =)

Of course it can be canon, because if anything bad happen to them, my therapist will hear about it 🙃

But let's dig into some domestic headcanon post current arc! Also, the second data book gave me some nice ideas lol

after the final battle, they find the way to talk, like, really talk, extensively, about all the unresolved questions they have between them and they officially get together

even if Koko doesn't like bikes, he admits he's happy to ride behind Inupi again. He loves holding Inupi's waist while he drives and resting his face on his shoulder. Inupi is warm and smells like home. He low key missed Inupi's bike as well, but only because it's Inupi's baby and he knows Inupi cares about her

When they drive by car, they like holding hands, and when Inupi has to switch gears, they basically switch it together. They plan in the future to buy a car with automatic transmission to facilitate the hand holding thing lol 

immediately after the battle, they start living together in Inupi's apartment above D&D, because, why not? Compared to when they used Shin’s abandoned shop, now they have like, electricity and they live like actual human beings and not feral little gremlins!

in the first period they are worried the police could arrive any moment to arrest Koko due to his role in KMG, so they make their mission to make every second with the other count, reminding each other how much they love the other and missed the other when they were apart (Koko lives peacefully because, if the police starts an investigation, I feel like some other executive of KGM would take one for the team, so the others can be free)

while cuddling, they enjoy being big and little spoon, taking turns; they love so much the idea to be hold by other other, to feel safe and sound  and they equally  love securing the other in their arms

Inupi loves Koko’s haircut and  the feeling of Koko’s shaved side under his hands, both when cuddling and in more spicy situations. Koko makes the mental note to always keep his hair cut with some sort of undercut/shaved form. Inupi keeps letting his hair grow and Koko thinks he’s stunning

Koko never really understood why the hell Inupi liked the feeling of getting his blood sucked during blood donations and, while it was really nice of Inupi donating blood, Koko doesn’t really like hospitals and needles and such. Despite that, he’s always at Inupi’s side when he donates (probably he doesn’t trust doctors that much). Growing up, they started joking about it

“If vampires existed, I guess I should have been worried about the competition” “You think I’d be so superficial? Besides, if you were a vampire, we wouldn’t have to worry at all” “So you admit it!”

In the late ‘00, when Twilight was a thing, Inupi was unimpressed by the lack of gruesome parts. True Blood, on the other hand  👀instant fave. Inupi and Koko barely speak any English, but they love the intro song so much that years later, (after the honestly anticlimactic finale) they still remember it by heart (the refrain says I wanna do bad things with you )

After one of their first passionate nights together, after the battle, when the lights were already off, Koko felt cold and since Inupi was already asleep, to avoid waking him up, he grabbed blindly from under their bed the first available T-shirt or whatever, then he came back to sleep in Inupi’s arms. Next morning, Inupi is horrified to see that Koko is wearing the Thousand Winters t-shirt.

“Seishu what’s wrong? *looking at the T-shirt* Holy shit, what’s this thing” “You would never believe it. Matsuno is crazy and Mitsuya will always have my eternal gratitude”

Despite that, Inupi didn't have the heart to throw the T-shirt away since Chifuyu worked so hard on them and Koko was kinda impressed by Matsuno’s entrepreneurial spirit

Inupi keeps working in his shop and D&D becomes a successful little business. Of course Koko helps with accountability and such. In this scenario, I'm not sure if Koko becomes the co-owner with Inupi because, while I think Koko would be happy to help Inupi in his business, Inupi would probably ask him to reflect about it because he wants Koko to do something he likes and really wants to do in his life, even if he would be happy to have Koko as his business partner, other than romantic one. And of course Koko would be happy to help Inupi in any way

If Koko doesn't work with Inupi, maybe he'll work as a librarian, since his favorite place is the library? Who knows?

While in the end Koko gets his driving license because he rationally knows it's important and can be useful, even if they live in a metropolis, he doesn't particularly enjoy driving, so when they need to use the car, most of the time Inupi drives but they switch for long distance trips.

After the battle they have more time to indulge in their hobbies and passions. Inupi loves when Koko talks about all his weird rocks, that apparently have various beneficial properties and, while he personally doesn't believe in tarots and such, he lets Koko read his hand, or whatever. (Nerdy Koko lives rent free in my and Inupi's heart)

Koko always loved the duality of Inupi, his angel features and his strength, his passion for heels and his fashion style and the fact he's good with motors (even if he doesn't like bikes per se, but he will listen everything Inupi says and trusts him on that)

D&D became in time a safe place for everybody, from former gang members to lost kids. Inupi is happy because it was like it used to be when he himself felt lost and found the Black Dragons and Shin's shop. You can be sure any little boy that likes wearing heels and painting nails and every little girl that loves motor and act tomboyish, or anyone that doesn't act "as they should" according to the society norms, is welcome to D&D, and Koko and Inupi will personally fight anyone that has a problem with them.

They borrow each other clothes all the time but  they style them differently

Same sex partnership is a complicated topic in Japan, but Koko and Inupi after some years together start referring at the other as their husband, may the system and the law be damned. At some point they started wearing matching rings

They stay friends with the former Toman guys, and even years later, they all make sure to find time to hang out together. During the summer, Koko and Inupi often invite the guys and their partners to D&D for a barbecue. 

Despite some initial awkwardness on Inupi’s side due the Shinichiro situation, they became friends with Kazutora as well when he gets out of jail. 

Inupi and Koko actually became friends with Hakkai and Yuzuya, the times of Black Dragon belonging to the past. Sometimes Koko still call them silly nicknames like “young master Hakkai” or “Lady Yuzuha”. They actually always respected Yuzuha since she was both a badass and good at her job, but during Taiju’s days as BD commander they never were too friendly with their captain’s siblings in order to avoid complications. They were also wearing their mean facades at the times and realized there was some serious problem in the Shiba family and they wanted nothing to do with it

They will always be grateful to Takemichi, since it was thank to Toman second generation they had the chance to reunite again and Michi says there’s no need to thank him, but they do anyway

SU Music Rankings

Bc I can and I wanna start some Disk Horse rip. These are all in order of preference, with explanations, etc. It’s a long bitch. That said, I’m not counting little short jingles or small joke songs like Little Butler. This is the meat and potatoes of SU music- just under 30 songs. I might do the rest if people like my takes lol.

I scored it mostly on three bases- how dear it was to my heart, how much/often I relisten to it, and also what it means to the plot. That said, little fun songs don’t automatically go farther down than big, plot-heavy songs either! It’s a strange little balance.

Special Note: I don’t dislike any of this music! I love SU and that includes its bumps and glitches. I just pick favorite children lol.

1.) Change

Was there ever a more Steven moment than when he wiped the blood off his face and kissed it into sparkles? I think not. 

If “Be Wherever You Are” is an ode to young Steven, then this is teen Steven’s. Talking about change, and how much and how little it can do. How he holds his arms up for Spinel to hug him, so trusting. How he seems able to just. Break into soft tears at will, and not to be manipulative- it’s just his kind nature. The warmth in his voice. Fuck yesssss.

2.) Change Your Mind

This song is only fifty five seconds and it’s EVERYTHING to me. It really felt like someone was speaking the words I’d always held deep inside of me, unsure of how to say. It feels like a goodbye to someone who never really loved me. 

As much as I enjoyed Future, if this was the finale of SU, I would’ve been perfectly okay with that.

3.) Drift Away

This song gave me legitimate shivers the first time I heard it, and it still haunts me to this day. Spinel stayed, and waited, and all she got was a transmission thousands of years later. Fuck.

4.) Here We Are In The Future

THE MOVIE IS SU AS ITS BEST AND I WON’T BE SWAYED ON IT. Steven being a teen who loves his weird family but is growing just a bit sarcastic to their drama. The adorable love he and Connie share. His slow realization that he will always be working, always have things to do, is both somber and real. The Crystal Gems won’t be safe with one epic battle. They’ll be safe with years of hard work and love. HIS LITTLE HANDSHAKE WITH AMETHYST.

This is a helluva bop and a great way to summarize the main character’s backstories.

5.) Let’s Only Think About Love

Did ya’ll know that Zach Callison killed his throat with that last note? He gave his all for this performance in a vocal range he no longer comfortably do and by god did it SHINE. The FLAIR. The FORESHADOWING. All of the Gems all being awkward about Rose and Steven trying to bring them to the present. Peridot having a mini-existential crisis in a cute yellow dress. I love Zach Callison’s normal singing voice but man is that a fucking bop. Nothing will ever beat it.

6.) Here Comes A Thought

This bad boy helped me out a LOT with some mental issues I was dealing with in high school. I was unmedicated, unsupervised, and full of anxiety. I’d have break downs when I tried to speak about certain things. I couldn’t function. This song inspired me. It helped me feel okay with my intrusive thoughts.

And the episode! -chef’s kiss-. Once again bringing up the morally gray area of training child soldiers. Connie expanding her social group. Steven’s trauma hauling ass in that second half. The ANIMATION. Stevonnie’s gorgeous singing voice. GOD yes.

7.) It’s Over Isn’t It?

Just barely squeaking above Stronger Than You, this ballad is everything gorgeous. The whole episode is. I think Mr. Greg stands in the top five of my episodes for the entire show. It even got nominated!

There’s just so much about this song that I love. The gentle melancholy of Pearl’s voice. How the crew had to redo the shots for this bit bc Deedee went so fucking hard. The hard cuts between Pearl, remembering the love of her life, and Steven, who has begun to feel like he took her away. I’d recommend this song to anyone, regardless of what they do or don’t know about SU, simply bc it tugs so many heartstrings of love, loss, and responsibility.

8.) Stronger Than You

Did you realize this episode aired SEVEN years ago? This bitch was what got me into SU! Hearing about Ruby and Sapphire made my little gay heart so happy inside, and then getting a whole song confirming that they were a couple, that their love powered the strongest Gem on the team? Aaaaaaaaa

To this DAY I get excited when I hear Estelle start singing. This song is timeless. This song will live in media history. God I fucking love this song.

9.) Other Friends

I’m not the biggest musical person, so I hadn’t heard of Sarah Stiles before her casting as Spinel, but JESUS CHRIST the lady went hard. She went SO fucking hard. Sarah Stiles started on 100 and somehow just kept CLIMBING. You can just hear the sheer manic energy building in her voice, the anger and resentment. 10/10 Sarah Stiles is a queen.

10.) Independent Together

This made the list entirely bc the crew was like “you’re gonna get a himbo ass Steven-Greg fusion singing with Opal while Garnet flies across the moon on Lion while floating” and I am forever thankful to them for it

11.) Who We Are

Bismuth deserved more songs. ‘Nuff said.

12.) Peace and Love (On the Planet Earth)

It Could’ve been Great is EASILY one of my favorite s2 episodes. I love the entire concept of this song. Of Steven making music to reflect how much Earth means to him and his family. Of him teaching Peridot some self-care. Also Peridot’s singing voice is really cute and squeaky. 

I know it’s silly, but I would’ve really enjoyed a flip around of this in Future! Like Peridot reminding Steven how much he loves music, that he needs to take time to relax for himself, maybe with a new verse or just a remix of the original song!

13.) Something Entirely New

I watched this episode as it aired, and I legitimately almost cried. I love Charlyne Yi’s voice so much ya’ll- her raspy, not perfect singing voice against Sapphire’s deep soothing lull is great.

And to have Ruby and Sapphire’s meeting be the way it was- for Ruby to bemoan Sapphire losing Homeworld, to being stuck with a single Ruby, while Sapphire is a noble who has always been taught everyone in her “caste” is vitally important (and has, in her own mind, taken that to mean every Gem, as she should) and how they come together and make each other happy. Good shit good shit.

14.) I’m Just a Comet

The fact that Greg’s music career never really blasted off pisses me off to this day bc Tom Scharpling’s voice is fucking BUTTER. Also the song really feels like a jab at his parents now that we know the kind of dynamic he had growing up. “This life in the stars if all I’ve ever known” is definitely him wiping away their existence after reminding them (and himself) the things they used to say about him.

15.) Do It For Her

This episode. This fucking episode. This episode got me permanently hooked on SU. I’d just binged season 1 and was kinda meh about it overall after the bop of Stronger Than You. “Oh,” I thought to myself, foolishly, “I’ll probably just casually watch this from time to time.”

Like three days later Sworn to the Sword aired and that was it. I was hooked! Pearl’s gentle training song turning darker and darker, Connie’s accompaniment from nervous to determined to fully into such a toxic mindset. The fact that SU had the BALLS to discuss the repercussions of training child soldiers, now and later. This episode was everything to me, STILL is everything to me.

Six years and well over 100 fanfics written later, I think it’s safe to say this show swallowed me whole and never let go.

16.) System/Boot.pearl_final(3)

I debated putting this on the list because it’s not anything crazy important, just a way to show things are Wrong, but I had to do it entirely bc Pearl is so damn SALTY.

Like telling us about the Gems makes sense, she felt like she was given a duty, but she went so damn petty. WHY is that Ruby alone. Gross. This Amethyst is a trash dump. Wtf are you people.

17.) Full Disclosure

This episode really feels like a turning point for SU. Before, the show had its dark moments- but now we’re in the thick of it, and it’s not going away. Full Disclosure felt like an rebuff to the idea of returning to any normal we’d established in season 1. Gems are actually a giant species now. Gems tried to kill us now. There’s this Yellow Diamond bitch who got namedropped. Something about a Cluster. 

The song itself is BALLER, with its ingenious use of Steven’s ringtone and photos as he tries to decide whether to clue in Connie on all this nonsense. Meanwhile we, the audience, already know damn well Connie about to yeet some common sense into him.

18.) What’s the Use of Feeling Blue?

I’mma admit it- I’m a Yellow Diamond stan. I’ve always loved her- her anger, her poise, her hardworking nature. I actively argued against the “Yellow Shattered Pink” theories back in the day. But, man, when this arc leaked? I got so overexcited I was too jittery to watch it for like two days. It’s easily my favorite arc of the series. The sheer alien nature of the zoo, the Famethyst, and absolutely Patti Lupone’s beautiful ballad. Goddamn. Yellow singing to Blue to try and help her regain her old status, the warble in her voice as she reminds Blue she misses Pink too, the movement of the bubbles as she talks about attack. It gives me shivers to this day. FUCK.

19.) Tower of Mistakes

This is, fun fact, that only SU song I have completely memorized. The story itself is kinda funny! See, we lost internet at my house for a solid 5 to 6 months when these episodes aired, so I only got a very brief window to view them all. But this was the first Amethyst song in a long while, and I didn’t want to forget it! So I keep replaying it in my head for ages. And that’s still definitely a thing.

Anyway will never not be sad that this entire song was about making it up to Garnet for Amethyst’s perceived slights with Sugilite (which was a two-way road), only for Garnet to pressure her into fusion later when pissed and never discuss it again bc Garnet probably never thought twice about it and Amethyst has the emotional openness of a clam that’s just been told its ugly. Helluva way to make someone feel like shit, G. Helluva way to bottle that shit, Ames.

20.) On the Run

I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: Amethyst! Needed! More! Songs! 

The dichotomy between Steven’s play and Amethyst’s honest desire to run away from home is so well-done, especially when you consider a lot of Steven and Amethyst’s actions are playing together. The song is also near and dear to me simply bc it’s my favorite Amethyst episode to exist (well, maybe second to What’s Your Problem, but not by much). Moments like these are all the proof I need that they were right to fuse first.

21.) Be Wherever You Are

This tune really just feels like an ode to who Steven was as a kid. Trapped on an island with no way home, and he’s just happy to be with his friends. The stars are beautiful and not oppressive. Also that one animatic with Lars and the Off Colors playing in the Homeworld Kindergarten to this music was iconic and made this song get stuck in my head for a solid month.

22.) Familiar

I ADORE how the crew use bright neon colors to show how alien Homeworld can be. And Steven recognizing that the Diamonds treat him how the CGs used to, and how prepared he is to “fix” a broken family. It’s a soft, gentle tune about melancholy. Also the Pebbles are beautiful.

23.) Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart

Such a cute little love ballad, but every time I listen to it now I just imagine the heart attack Rose must’ve had at the line “And if we look out of place/Well, baby, that's okay/I'll drive us into outer space.” like there’s a Vietnam war flashback if I ever heard one

24.) What Can I Do?

I’m kind of neutral on this one? Rose and Greg both have great voices, but the song itself lacks many lyrics. I think it was definitely a good way to show Rose’s flaws in thinking.

Also, I’m shocked they managed cram that much vaguely sexual innuendo into two minutes, followed by how Not Hetereo that dance between Rose and Pearl was, and not get their asses chewed by it. You go guys.

25.) Cookie Cat

I love a lot of the vibes this song has. The lyrics are so damn prophetic, but they also sound like the kind of weird 90s commercials I grew up on. It’s been like two decades since I saw the Shirley Temple commercial but I’ll be damned if I don’t remember “Animals crackers in my soup! Monkey and rabbits loop-de-loop.”

26.) Giant Woman

I am. NOT the biggest fan of Steven’s original singing voice. I feel bad saying that, since it was just Zach Callison as a kid, but he never jived well with me for some reason. So I wouldn’t listen to this on the fly. 

The song itself is still really good though, with all sorts of fun animation of Amethyst and Pearl being bitchy to each other. It’s a bit sad in hindsight to see tiny Steven trying to get his moms to get along. Ahh, season 1.

27.) Strong in the Real Way

This song has SUCH a strong start. Pearl reflecting on Sugilite’s problems, but the show making sure to show us that Pearl’s lack of enthusiasm towards her also lends itself to jealousy as well as just general malaise. How much she cares about Steven, and wants him to grow up strong. 

And then Steven just kinda. Ruins it? I appreciate his enthusiasm for tryna bulk up but to take what was starting as such a rich, personal song and broadcasting it to random strangers just makes me a bit sad. Almost a bit angry on her behalf?

28.) That Distant Shore

I KNOW this is gonna create some discourse, but I’m just not the biggest Lapis stan. I love her voice. I love the visuals of the song. And I get why she felt afraid and needed to flee.

But Lapis never got to take responsibility for her own actions. And, in the end, the song feels hollow to me- because we all know she’ll never talk to anyone about it, know she’ll burst back in and destroy the barn, and no one will ever question it. I like Lapis a lot, but I feel like her arc never was fully finished. She never got help. She never learned to feel safe.

29.) Dear Old Dad

I’ve yet to meet a single human being who likes this episode tbh. There’s some great discussion about what kind of parent Greg is from it, and what kind of dynamic he has with the Gems that he felt he had to fake an injury to hang out with his son. Honestly the first half was fine and dandy. It’s just that then they Greg just went out of his way to drag Steven away from missions and such. It never jived well with his character before or after.

Also, is it just me, or does Zach himself sound like he hates the song as he sings it? There’s no passion or heart in his voice. It sounds like they told him to read off cue cards and he did. Tom Scharpling’s best attempts didn’t save this one for being a skipper. But the episode, unfortunately, isn’t, so it gets a spot on here.

SURVIVE!  a post-apocalyptic gameplay mod

no more sims wandering about the neighborhood, no more easy food, no power, water, or magical insta-purchasing. Only survival.

I’ve been working on and off of this mod for almost a year now, its my little passion project and I’ve been absoultely dying to let everyone know for AGES. But I kinda have an issue with getting excited, getting everyone else excited by posting and then losing steam... so I told myself I couldn’t post about this until most of it was done lol.

One thing I need to mention immediately is that this mod WILL require Eco Living. I tried to make as much of it base game compatible as possible but it just wasn’t in my scope to do so.

I dislike how easy and shallow gameplay in TS4 is, and even with mods designed for apocalyptic / off grid gameplay I still felt completely un-immersed when sims would come welcome my supposedly apocalypse based family, or they could always buy food from the fridge.

My new mod completely changes that!

Food is scarce. It can only be scavenged, bought from a passing trader or grown. You will have to stockpile your supplies and ration carefully.

No electricity or running water. Duh. The Eco Living electricity and water making objects will provide you with these luxuries if you so want them, though.

Scavenging. Scavenging is exhausting but guarantees at least a little bit of food, and sometimes other useful items. Future plans** for this include story-driven chance cards and scavenging triggered events.

Interact-ables. There are some objects in the mod which your sim will most likely need to use at some point, like the Communications Tower. These objects will make life just a little bit easier for your survivors, but they will have to work hard to get them going again. Future plans for these include a broken down car which can be repaired and then used for scavenging trips to bring back more items and a possible car mechanic skill.

Traders. For some sims, the end of the world is a business opportunity... and boy is business booming! You will see these traders sometimes around your neighborhood, or once your sim has repaired the communications tower, they can send out transmissions for a food or junk trader once every 24 hours. Future plans include a medic/doctor, and having a trader join your settlement eventually.

Survivors. You didn’t think you were the only ones left, right? Every now and then a fellow survivor will beg to join your group, and you can agree to let them stay (and eat your valuable food) or you can force them back into the desolate wasteland to fend for themselves. Future plans include these declined sims possibly turning into raiders.

If they join your settlement, you assign them a bed or even a tent outside, and then give them jobs. These jobs include;

Farmers, who will look after gardens and grow food.

Fixers, who will keep everything in tip top condition

Teachers, who will looks after and teach the younger sims.

Scavengers, who can be sent out on scavenging missions once a day and will find scrap wherever they can.

Future plans are place-able plots for npc survivors to automatically upgrade themselves.

Empty Worlds. The BIGGEST thing I knew I wanted when I first started making this mod was that I couldn’t have random NPC just walking around on the streets outside your house. I am a big nerd for immersion and this kills it for me. So the streets and venues you visit will be empty, as they would be in a real post-apocalyptic setting. This doesn’t mean every sim is gone though! They are in their houses surviving, just like you!

That’s really the ‘main’ framework of the mod but honestly there's so much more like a clean and dirty water/thirst system, optional acid rain/contaminated air outside, bunker safety, ect.

I would LOVE feedback and suggestions for features, so please let me know! I have many other small things on my ‘to-be-implented’ list:

Other Important Info I Don’t Have Links For

Buy condoms that are latex, plyurethane, or ployisoprene, not lambskin. Lambskin can let STDs through.

Use water-based lube; Vaseline or oil-based lube will ruin a condom.

Even if the sex isn’t afab/amab, use protection. STDs are always a danger.

It’s worth using condoms on toys, too, since STDs can’t really be cleaned from a toy’s pores

On that note, get tested often. STDs can be trasmitted by things other than sex, so even if you’re not having sex or you’re sure that you and your partner(s) are clean, you may have picked something up by accident. Even sharing a water bottle can sometimes cause STD transmission, so check. If you picked something up, you’ll want to know sooner rather than later.

Condoms are useful, even for afab/afab sex! “Male” condoms can be altered into dental dams (for oral sex), and they make “female” condoms (which btw are latex-free), too! The links above that give info on birth control nearly all elaborate on this

Try to keep some condoms with you, even if you think there’s literally no way you’d need one. You never know what’ll happen, and it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Besides, maybe a friend will need one, and then you’ll be friend of the year (afabs, it’s like carrying tampons/pads when you’re not on your period)

Don’t flush condoms down to toilet

Remember condoms are single use!!!

Check the condoms you carry frequently. Make sure they aren’t past their expiration date, and that the packaging hasn’t been punctured or bent. If any of these things have happened, chuck ‘em! They won’t work anymore. (just make sure you remember to replace them, too)

If you smoke, you shouldn’t use birth control pills. This is probably a non-issue bc pills are usually prescribed, but just bear it in mind

Title X clinics (for abortions and other pregnancy options) are great, but be careful! There are organizations that set themselves up near abortion clinics to confuse people. They operate specifically with the agenda to guilt people out of getting an abortion. These places are usually called something along the lines of “Crisis Pregnancy Center” or “Pregnancy Choice”. John Oliver has a 21-minute talk about them here (okay, so maybe I do have a link for this one lol) (btw this is a youtube link, so it plays automatically).

Hello 2021

January 2, 2021

I should’ve put these thoughts into words on the first day of the year but then again, I felt so lazy given this bed weather we are currently having. By far, I think I experienced the coldest temperature here in my hometown (21 degrees baby) and I’m sure not liking it as I prefer warm days.

I actually do not know how to start. I feel it’s necessary to check on how I am doing lately. Write the things I experienced last year and reflect on the lessons it taught me.

I could probably kick things off by remembering how 2020 started for me. I have a bad memory but I’ll try my best to recall them.

January

Broke up with J (yes this is probably one of the major and heartbreaking events happened to me). To sum it up, I realized that the relationship does not have growth anymore, and I am slowly drifting to follow my own path, which is to focus on the plans I want. I haven’t thought deeply the lessons I learned in my past relationship yet but one thing is for sure, I changed and I want to explore more of what I can do or what I’m missing out in life. Which brings me to attend seminars on how to work/study abroad. I attended a couple (e.g Fortrust Makati) and I also realized how costly it will be and I’m probably not yet ready esp. on the financial aspect.

February – March

Highlight on these months was I got back to dating apps again. I know it was a complete dick move. I haven’t moved on yet and here I am in the pool again. I met 2 guys from this app, Coffee Meets Bagel (which btw I uninstalled few months after). The first guy was the introvert but funny type and also VERY sexual. I got along with it, tried to do the deed but failed cause the guy hasn’t moved on from the ex yet. (Sucks right). And so I met this second guy and he is decent but we really had completely different personality. I believe this guy is also rich (he came from a Chinese family and I went to his house and saw the maid and his stuff). Can you also believe he already introduced me to his mom (no dad cause broken family), uncle and grandma. Pressured si ate gurl syempre cause it was really too early to do that step since we’re just dating but March was the most difficult month because…

START OF LOCKDOWN. PH was in state of panic after the government announced a nationwide lockdown due to increased COVID-19 transmission. I immediately went on a bus to the province fearing to get stuck in Manila.

April

Nah this was just a typical month. Summer vibes all over but since we cannot go to the beach we just setup an inflatable pool in the house to get soaked. I finally posted a pic wearing a swimsuit again. My stagnant IG feed came to life lmao

May

Oh boy. This month sucks so much. I got typhoid fever. Which I thought was COVID already cause my fever just won’t stop. My mom didn’t want me to get admitted in the hospital in the fear of being infected so I was hooked in the IV here in the house. I felt I was dying. I was in huge pain both physically and mentally. Which forced me to end any communication means with the second guy. He was not there when I was sick. I didn’t feel his concern even if we’re miles apart and I felt I was begging for his attention. It just won’t work. He blocked me in his socials (which is a first for me, usually I am the one who blocks lol) but given the current state I have now, I learned to accept it and chose to move forward.

June

Explored options on work/study program abroad. We got a new car (Xpander) which my father was able to purchase after borrowing money from us. That money could’ve been used for my Japan trip on December (plot twist it was cancelled due to fucking corona) but it’s okay I guess I’ll save another again.

I also got my student permit (yes I learned how to drive months after hehe)

July

THIS WAS MY BIGGEST DOWNFALL FOR THIS YEAR. There were some modifications in the quarantine and so my employer required and FORCED us to report on site in Makati despite of high number of positive cases. All I can say is SCREW THEM and I hope karma will do its thing on their business. The management.. the bosses.. they are all inconsiderate fucks for not allowing me to work at home instead. The situation forced me to resign but they chose to terminate me instead. The unemployment took its toll on my mental health, it caused me great depression and anxiety which forced me to look for distractions.. anything that will ease my mind.

Oh and btw, I bought my first laptop from hard earned money. Oh boy, it was satisfying to give myself the things my parents couldn’t afford that time I was still in school. It’s a gaming laptop and the one I’m using to type now. I absolutely love it and I used it to find online jobs later on..

I read Looking for Alaska by John Green again after watching the TV series on Hulu. Geez, this has to be my favorite book so far. The seeking of great perhaps.. which was very timely on my mood while having nothing else to do.

Lastly, TAYLOR SWIFT RELEASED A NEW ALBUM CALLED FOLKLORE. In the middle pandemic? Awesome right and this album kept me sane during this crazy and miserable month. Oh and on December, she released folklore’s sister album.. Evermore. Miss Swift saved me again with her music. This will definitely be one of the albums I will play when I’m old and gray knitting sweaters and wearing cardigan.

August

I started and finished my driving lesson in manual. JFC, I realized driving gives me a huge anxiety. One thing is for sure, I will prefer to drive automatic. Not driving that shit again.

I was still hooked with Looking for Alaska. Also purchased Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck on the time I bought LFA.

On the other hand, I was also actively looking for new jobs this time.

September

ON SEPT. 30 I GOT HIRED! I was super happy to start on a new job. It gave me hope once again to continue on this journey called life. After almost 3 months, we are def back to business!

I also got the chance to get this Thyroid issue checked. Unfortunately, there was no major stuff going on with my thyroid. Basically, I’m perfectly healthy. What sucks is that the doctor invalidated my previous condition and said I only have ~anxiety which is the cause of my symptoms (excessive sweating and palpitations). I will seek professional help on this anxiety stuff anytime in the future.

Lastly, I played Grand Chase again and met someone in the game. Well technically we haven’t met yet but since then, I got used to talking with this guy and he is part of my daily routine now. I won’t spoil much details but as soon as this is all over, I can’t wait to meet this person :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEE! It was a typical birthday. I don’t have much realizations. If I had one, I need to think thoroughly again lol.

Busy with training on the new job and this has been the most challenging training I ever had since I started working.

NOVEMBER

WORK WORK WORK. Super stressed and my anxiety was on the roof. I thought of giving up already but then again it was too early to quit. I haven’t seen my full potential on this job yet and so I chose to keep on fighting.

I also finally got braces. Let’s get these smiles fixed.

December

WORK WORK WORK AGAIN. My work caused me a huge anxiety cause I was given high priority cases -.-But overall, I can say the holidays went great. I finally got to spend time with the family outside. Don’t worry cause we still practiced precautions and I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go out once in a while to have some fresh air. We went to the beach and pretty much that’s the highlight of this month.

Things are getting serious with this guy I’m talking about.. Seriously, he makes me happy every single day.

I also won in Christmas raffle. Oppo phone. (I have the odds in my favor when it comes to raffles lol)

Feels weird to celebrate this holiday too thinking a lot of hardships were experienced in the last few months of quarantine. I was thinking about all the lives lost by covid and hoping they are in the peaceful place now..

JANUARY (NOW)

After everything that happened, oddly the start of the year gives me a sense of hope. Sure I am still carrying the trauma 2020 gave me but I am slowly leaving all of them behind. I want a fresh start and I want to let go of the things that gave me pain. I don’t have solid resolutions just like in my teenage years. Guess I’m too old for that. Not saying it’s okay to not have plans for the future and just go with the flow but I promise to not be too hard on myself and to not pressure myself on the goals I haven’t achieved yet. It’s really a struggle to plan things ahead given the situation but as always, I will do my best. I will stop comparing my progress to somebody else’s cause everyone has their own timeline.

I will listen to my heart and my mind to determine the things I really want. I promise to reevaluate the decisions I am making each day. I will not be afraid of making mistakes because that’s how I learn.

I am embracing my anxiety of uncertainty. It’s okay to feel afraid because I am always trying on how to overcome my fear. I strive each day because I am more than just a ball of anxiety. The palpitations.. the sweating.. they don’t define me. I have the power to control them and they won’t stop me from being the better version of myself.

Traded in my Corolla and Miata this week for a blue 2018 Audi S4! It was a struggle finding a used B9 S4 in blue but one just happened to pop up right by where I live.

To give a little (A LOT) of back story on my buying process, I had my Corolla for 9 years and the Miata for the last 2. I got pretty tired of taking care of two cars and dealing with having to pay for insurance on two cars etc. etc. so I was looking to downsize to a single car garage. I was also kind of tired of how loud the Miata was at highway speeds, but didn't care for driving the Corolla unless I had to basically so it always left me having to make a choice on what car to drive if it was going to be longer than 15-20 minutes.

So when I started researching I narrowed it down to a few options: C7 Corvette, Audi S4, Genesis G70

Corvette: I loved how quick and capable it was, and it rode quite well too. The exhaust note with the roof off and your foot near the floor (didn't want to give too much throttle and die during a test drive ha) was absolutely violent and intoxicating. I'm pretty sure I'd drive like a complete asshole if I owned a Corvette.

The interior was semi disappointing to me because, while I know it's not a luxury car, it also didn't really feel much nicer than my Miata (2016 GT), and from pictures and reviews online it sounded like they'd stepped up their interiors a bit more than that.

The other thing I didn't care for was the clutch and shifter feel. The clutch felt like it bit super early in the pedal and wasn't progressive at all, which makes sense I guess, it's a sports car after all, but it doesn't make it all that nice for being a daily which was my aim here. The shifter itself felt somewhat rubbery, and I didn't like having a 7th gear really. Both I could probably get used to, but I much preferred the feel of the Miata transmission so was a but disappointed by that. At that point I considered an automatic, but at that point I felt like I might as well get something easier to live with on a daily basis if I'm not going to go full sport.

Audi S4: Again coming from my cars I was impressed with the speed and handling capabilities. The Miata was definitely more lively in terms of handling but this felt like it could take a corner much faster. It was definitely less capable in almost every way than the Corvette, but I feel like it more than made up for it with how well it can go from feeling like a sports car to a luxury cruiser. The ride is so smooth, and driving 70 on the highway is about as loud as 35 in the Corolla and probably 15 in the Miata lol.

The transmission feels good for the most part. It can be a little slow to downshift initially if you leave it in auto drive mode, but then after that it's good. Personally if I know I'm about to rip it, I put it in sport mode and pop the shifter over to manual mode and then the transmission is very very fast and responsive to input.

Lastly I was a huge fan of the interiors, this felt like a proper step up from my previous vehicles. I love the carbon fiber inlays, the virtual cockpit, a pretty good sound system, and the fact that I finally have Android auto and Apple carplay. In regards to the B&O sound system, it's definitely solid but I was not blown away by it at all. I do like pretty high quality audio (wouldn't consider myself a true audiophile), but I feel like the mids and highs are lacking a bit of clarity and shine and the bass, while it gets loud without rattling or sounding bad, doesn't feel rich, like the subwoofer is too small to get low enough or needed a 2nd sub to go with it. Again, it's not bad, I just feel like a lot of reviews online make it sound like it's better than it is imo.

G70: Ahh, the G70, what to say... I went to a Hyundai/Genesis combo dealership, and when I got there, it turned out they didn't even have the car I wanted in stock and didn't let me know beforehand! It was a half hour drive there, so I still tested a 2.0T but was quite annoyed they didn't let me know ahead of time that they had no 3.3T in stock.

The 2.0T had a surprising amount of shove during acceleration for being the smaller engine, and felt like it handled pretty well, but I didn't get to test that out too much. He basically had me ride around the block, which is partially through a residential neighborhood, and then told me there were no good roads around to try out the handling. I did notice that the ride, even in comfort mode, was fairly harsh compared to the Audi which was a tiny bit disappointing, but it was roughly on par with the Corolla, maybe a little better in terms of comfort over bumps and things.

The interior of the car felt pretty nice as well, again a definite step up from what I'd been working with. Loved that it had all the features without picking and choosing like the Audi where you have to give up the diamond quiilting for cooled seats.

So overall, I was somewhat impressed with the car, and was open to coming back to test drive the 3.3T and they said they'd contact me because it was supposed to get in within a day or two. Well a week went by, and I never heard from them again.

Tldr: Went from a Miata and Corolla to an Audi S4 because it was the perfect balance of sport and luxury for me.
