rapper!onyankopon.
Tumblr media
just some head canons i have.
in my head im imagining a blend of dave and fridayy, where he can sing as well (he got variety!). same universe as my musicproducer!connie fic but reader is not famous here, as opposed to w/ connie’s. (lol i gave her a last name too—davis.) in my mind, im picturing ony from the uk and connie from ny.
★ *  °    🛰  °. 🌓 •  .°•   🚀
rapper!ony who first pops up on the scene in a music video of his friend connie’s song. he wasn’t featured on the track, but rather just in the background getting hype with everyone else.
but y’all know how the girlies get when a fine black man/woman/person start trending.
rapper!ony who wasn’t shy about his craft, but just wasn’t big on social media. his agent hated it, he loved it. he simply released music, let people know, and then went about his business.
rapper!ony was trending and although he didn’t take this as an opportunity to get in his social media bag, his best friend, musicproducer!connie did!
rapper!ony who goes from a couple thousand people knowing what he does to over a million people screaming his lyrics at they’re phones on tiktok in ONE night.
“bro, you can’t even get mad at me gang!” connie yelled from his shower. ony was sitting outside, accosting his friend for what he did. “you said you didn’t care what happened to the project!”
“but tell me if you gon post it and make it a whole thing, nigga damn!” ony yelled back.
rapper!ony who now has to adjust to his quickly rising popularity. he has yet to know the number of artists looking for a feature; and he doesn’t know that he secretly has some of these industry boys shaking in their boots because where the hell he come from?
no, rapper!ony is too busy focusing on whyyy they’re a million fan edits of him across tiktok and instagram. clips of him from his streams, connie’s videos, and his other friend’s content.
ony groans as connie’s message banner pops up on his phone, the message being a link to a tiktok. when he clicked it, it was a fan edit of him using his song ‘when it comes to you’. “bro, who keeps sending these to you, man?!” ony exclaimed. connie heard it from his room and snickered.
rapper!ony who had to adjust to being the attention at these red carpet events. he usually just walked behind connie and his girl, along with the rest of the entourage but now he is getting stopped for photographs.
there’s nothing like listening to music live. so rapper!ony puts on a fake smile and pushes through the crowded carpet to get inside. he waves to people he’s worked with, artists, and fans who called out to him. all so he can hear some music.
he sees connie holding hands with his girlfriend, both of them making goofy faces at the cameras. he softly smiles at the couple, but before he could make way, connie somehow senses him and turns to him “ony! ven aquí!” damn!
rapper!ony who doesn’t expect much from the awards show. just to go, support connie, and go home. he was nominated,yeah, but he was also in the category with some of the most popular artists right now…so he wasn’t feeling all that confident.
rapper!ony who is shocked as shocked can be when his name is called from the podium for best new artist.
“F**CK YEAH!” connie yelled, jumping up from his seat along with his girl and the rest of the table—aran, zora, jean, armin, and mikasa.
rapper!ony who walks up on stage with connie who is still screaming from excitement.
“uhhh, i’m not gonna lie, mans weren’t expecting to win still.” ony laughed, running a hand over his fresh waves. the audience laughed with him.
“first i would like to thank God, the most high who has blessed me with this amazing opportunity. i want to thank my people for having my back; connie—this man,” ony pointed behind him to connie, who was full out filming the moment on his phone.
“who told me on a random day when we were cleaning out our college dorm room that if we made a project together we would be the new heartthrobs of the generation. connie i thank you for being you; having my back and working alongside me. my brother for life, that is.” connie screamed, and so did his girlfriend from the audience as the claps poured in.
“and finally, i want to thank my heart in human form. the woman who made all of this possible, y/n davis. she don’t like the attention so im gonna hear bout this name drop when i get home. but babes, i love you, and thank you for being my rib. i owe you the world and more. and to her parents, thank you for my better half. thank you lot again. love!” ony raised his hand with the award, smiling and waving to the crowd and cameras as he walked to the back.
meanwhile, across the country, cuddled up in her bed was y/n, who was watching the award show before going to sleep. she had expressed to ony she wasn’t too sure about going, not liking the cameras and attention. he reassured her it was okay because there wasn’t any way he would be winning with who else was in the category.
so…safe to say when you saw your boyfriend on the stage with the award in his hand, you could not contain your shock and excitement. you jumped out of bed screaming and quickly getting to your phone camera to record the tv. squeals and “yeah baby” was all you could say as he gave connie his thanks.
but then… when you heard him say your name, for everyone around the world to hear, everything just turned to shock as your phone fell from your frozen hands, still recording. you were stunned. he said your name. your government name. on national television.
“ONY!!!”

Jenson Button x Famous!Reader 2009
you’re a famous British model and actress who’s dating Jenson Button during 2009 GP. You’re also his biggest support but you get a name for yourself in the British press as being a bit of a ‘wild child’. Cameras constantly follow you around the grid, but Jenson is absolutely smitten by your crazy antics.
warnings: headcanons mentions of sex, oral sex, innuendos, Jenson is in love with her like teeth rotting cuteness, mentions of public flashing?!
Tumblr media
I feel like Jenson and y/n would meet a year prior to starting to go out, when she was still in a relationship with somebody else. She’s a little younger, maybe when they actually start dating she’s 22 and he’s like 29?
anyway he’s heard of her before and sees her and his friends are all hyping him up to say something, maybe they’re at an after party where there’s lots of big names.
he walks around the corner all hyped up, then sees you snogging this other fella and he’s deep down crushed.
anyway a year later you’re single and he sweeps you off your feet, absolutely buzzing that this time nobody got in his way.
the relationship moves naturally, you’re both young and still (kinda) like to party, the British press go WILD that the two of you are together. You’d attend as many races as possible, being in the front row and cheering him on each time.
there’s one incident specifically where you’re cheering from below as he stands on the podium. He’s grinning directly towards you and giggling you go to lift your top to flash him cheekily.
the camera ALL point to you but it’s his publicist that stops you, waving a hand in a panicked manner. “I wasn’t really going to!” You’d exclaim, glancing back up to Jenson whose jaw was dropped in excitement. The crowd was ‘wheeeeying’ each time you went to lift your top mischievously, but you ended up getting told off.
he’d love it when you rode tf out of him, titties in his face.
you’d get a reputation for partying together, but the tabloids make it seem far worse than what you actually do.
The uk papers love trying to get a good scandal out of the two of you, but you’re so close knit and stay out of drama it’s all aload of bollocks.
always getting caught in compromising positions, eg, he’s grabbing your bum or boobs.
you once got caught reaching under the blanket to rest a hand teasingly over his crotch.
he’d be such a tease omg, especially when he get a little cocky after winning a race.
but he really is a sweetheart, the media like to present you both as some kind of crazy, party animal couples and there’s sooo many rumours that fly around (none of them are true).
The two of you would 100% become more private and reserved as you got older, but especially in the first few years you’re a magnet for cameras.
you’d often be caught drinking in the paddock or partying, you’d become a staple fashion icon and one of the leading wags. It seems like you’re friends with everybody and anybody, causing you to become a likeable character on the grid.
I feel like Jenson would be so chilled out watching you doing interviews and speaking to whoever, but the minute somebody starts to take advantage of your kindness he’s stepping in.
Like some of the papers print the most misogynistic stories about you ever. We all know paparazzi especially the British press can be ruthless, so there’d be lots of times after nights out where they’re already waiting to hound you coming out of a bar.
One guy tries to take an inappropriate picture of you getting out of a car and Jenson punches him or hits his camera out of his hands, idk he’s just super protective over you.
would take you on soooo many holidays, deffo gets a little frisky on the private beaches and on the yachts, he loves it. He falls in love with you deeper and deeper each time he spends time with you.
Can’t get enough of you in a bikini.
sometimes he’ll get so excited to see you he play fights you and gets a little rough.
loves it when you get a little feisty omg.
when you surprise him at a race he’d wrap his arms so tightly around your front and snuggle his face into the crook of your neck omg he’s so soft idgaf.
massive softie when nobody is watching, isn’t afraid of a little PDA either in front of the right people ;)

The Biggest Hit Attraction
Tumblr media
Daisy had always dreamed of being a clown in the carnival. From a young age, she had been fascinated by the bright lights, the exciting performances, and the joy that it brought to people's faces.
So, when she finally landed a job at the carnival, she was over the moon. She worked hard, practiced her routines, and put on her makeup with care.
Tumblr media
She was always punctual on the podium. Eager to welcome guests into the carnival and hand them balloons to hype up the attendees.
But despite her best efforts, she could never seem to win over the crowd. They would snicker at her clumsy moves, poke fun at her oversized shoes, and toss her withering looks as they passed by her booth.
Daisy would try her best to brush it off and carry on with her performance, but every insult she received chipped away at her self-esteem.
When the carnival master gave her a letter to reconsider her position as the carnival's front mascot, she began to wonder if she was really cut out for this job.
Tumblr media
One day, as she was wandering the carnival grounds, feeling low, she came across a mysterious fortune teller's tent. The fortune teller was an old woman with a kind smile, who listened patiently as Daisy poured out her heart to her.
"I just don't know what to do," Daisy said. "I feel like I'll never be good enough."
The fortune teller nodded sympathetically. "I have just the thing for you," she said, reaching into a small box and pulling out a shiny gold coin. "This coin will give you the confidence and energy you need to be the best show this carnival has ever seen!"
Daisy took the coin, feeling a little skeptical, but also hopeful. She rubbed it twice and slipped it into her pocket, she thanked the fortune teller and went back to her tent to prepare for her performance that night.
The grand tent was silent with anticipation. The drumroll kicked in and a spotlight shone upon the ringmaster.
"Ladieeees and gentlemen, boys and girls! I have for you a show that will leave you gasping in awe and wonder. Tonight, we bring you a spectacle of gigantic proportions, an extravaganza that will astound and amaze even the most seasoned circus-goers. Get ready to witness feats of strength and skill that defy the laws of physics, performed by the most talented and daring performers in the world. Prepare to be transported to a world of excitement and magic, as we unleash an unforgettable show that will leave you breathless. So hold on tight, because the show is about to begin, and trust me, it's going to be big!"
The crowd went wild and the show began. Strongmen lifted barbells and threw them in the air. Elephants stood up and performed feats of wonder. With every show, the stakes went higher and higher!
Soon, it was time for Daisy's intermission to calm the crowd down for the next big show. She was just supposed to go there and act silly to make the crowd laugh and renew their wonder.
However, as she began her act, the audience laughed and jeered with insulting tones at her. They threw tomatoes at her as she was juggling balls. Daisy felt dejected, but the show had to go on.
Suddenly, she accidentally juggled the coin given to her, and with the chaos, swallowed it as it fell. Daisy choked and circled around the stage looking for help, the ringmaster had to stop the crowd and check up on Daisy's condition.
Then it struck her. It was like a sudden surge of power, and she felt more confident than she ever had before. Her eyes widened after swallowing the coin, she stood up straight and smiled.
The silent crowd was at awe at the change in tone.
"Daisy, are you alright?" Asked the ringmaster. And Daisy simply nodded and gave him a thumbs up. The elderly man smiled at her and patted her back.
The fanfare continued and she continued her performance. It was still far from perfect, but she found herself laughing at the jeers and heckles that came her way, and responding with quick-witted retorts that made the crowd laugh even harder.
Tumblr media
But then, in the middle of her performance while balancing atop a giant ball, she felt a little sick, could it have been the coin she swallowed?
Something strange began to happen to her body. Daisy felt a rumbling in her stomach, and then she felt her clothes shifting around her form particularly around her chest and hips. She tried stay balanced atop of the ball, but she felt an additional weight around her bosom and thighs that she fell off.
Her impact on the ground tore her colorful costume top open as she started to grow. Her already feminine form emphasizing further with every spurt.
Tumblr media
Mothers had to cover their cheering children's eyes at the sight of the growing woman onstage. Daisy was confused when she saw her perspective of the crowd and her carnival friends rose higher and higher.
Share barely felt the tight cling of her tightening clothes around her as she grew and grew until she was towering over the crowd, and her costume couldn't contain her anymore.
The crowd gasped and cheered, thinking this was all part of the show. They watched in amazement as Daisy lifted tore the carnival tent apart to use to cover herself. She lifted people and animals up to gauge her newfound size and strength.
Tumblr media
Daisy was elated. She had never felt so powerful and alive. She struck poses and did feats of strength such as lifting elephants and bending entire steel bars.
The ringmaster improvised a show and a costume for her to keep things decent. He let her be the highlight of tonight's circus and allowed people to interact with her after the show.
She would let them slide across her giant body, or have them sit in ferris wheel cars as she'd carry them around. She was no longer just a performer of the carnival, but also a ride!
The formerly meek Daisy had become the carnival's biggest attraction, and people came from far and wide just to see her perform and take pictures with her.
She has become the carnival's iconic mascot - Dazzling Daisy!
Tumblr media
And yet, even as she basked in the glow of the crowd's adulation, she couldn't forget the fortune teller who had given her the magic coin.
She went back to the tent, hoping to thank her, but found that the tent was empty. In fact, the fortune teller had disappeared without a trace.
Tumblr media
Daisy looked around, feeling a little bewildered. But then, as she looked down at her massive form, she realized something. She had been given a gift, not just of size and strength, but of confidence and self-respect. And even though the fortune teller was gone, she knew that she would always carry that gift with her.

Pookie 2 cause Olibear (get it?.. oliver and bear) anyways, they'll be so cute. Pookie x Pookie and honestly even though Carlos is a gentleman I can see him bringing little stark down cause the media is constantly talking about her and their family unlike before it was the sainz and SAINZ ONLY. He'll talk bad things about little stark but then like Carlos Sr is going like "we can't fight them they have more power" resulting to Carlos being more mad iyk. Then, we have olliee the pookiest of all pookie..he's so cute, protective but not possessive, will definitely brag to his friends that the girl she's dating is out of his league but chose him anyways. When little stark wins the race he has that little smug on his face like "yes, that's my girl no one else's". Even before they dated he's talking about her constantly so when news came out that they were seen together people just assume they're the best of friends and stuff. because of this Ollie is sulking cause everyone thinks he's just friendzoned and no one actually has faith in him that he can bag a girl like little stark
smitten in love Ollie x shining little stark
-🧸❤️
referring to this post
OLIBEAR!!!! OLIBEAR YES YES YES (this is now little stark's pet name for him, thank you sm anon) also welcome hehe, i assume you'll be the 🧸❤️ anon?
pookie x pookie fr, because they're each other hype(wo)men, they're so down for each other it's almost disgusting but it's just cute
also carlos. carlos has an ego and unlike ollie, he will not admit defeat or that someone is better than him who he thought previously is worse (not that ollie would ever think that but you get what i mean) i just know he gets the scolding of the century from his father because he can't help but talk shit about little stark
ALSO YES!! ollie would brag about little stark sm!! to his friends, his family, his team, ANYONE! it's always "my gf this, my gf that" and there are two reactions: 1. they think ollie is the biggest simp, 2. they think his gf is imaginary because he never told anyone WHO exactly his gf is
in an interview he gets asked how he will celebrate his podium and with the biggest grin and without shame he will say "with my gf" thinking innocenct thoughts like eating out with their families, cuddling to sleep and just enjoying their time. WHILE everyone else just goes "HUH?? DID HE JUST SAY THAT" because they all assume little innocent ollie bearman is doing the deed with his infamous gf
little stark gets asked for a comment and she will fluel the rumors abt them being best friends with a blinding smile and "i really hope he enjoys his time with his gf, very happy for him and his partner"
just you wait until it finally gets revealed that it's little stark
smitten in love ollie x shining little stark.... so beautiful. so so beautiful

Bob parks his car in the parking lot of the restaurant and looks at the cars already parked there wondering if one of those cars belongs to his date. Rocket had told him that Mrs. Bennett the charity event organizer had won the date but rumor was that she had given it to one of her daughters. Bob remembers how intimidating and cold Mrs. Bennett had seemed when they had helped out with the set up and worries that her daughter will be the same way. Taking in a deep breath he stares at himself in the rear view mirror for a moment.
“You can do this. It’s just a date.” He tells himself confidently before nodding once and stepping out of the car. Looking back at his reflection in the car window he surveys himself as his hands graze down the front of his button up maroon shirt and down to his navy blue slacks. His hair is neatly combed and gelled out of his face and he’s made sure to have shined his brown leather shoes he’s wearing. Taking in another deep breath he turns and walks up towards the restaurant.
Bob is pleasantly surprised to see the outside of the restaurant looks like a large house with an almost wrap-around porch and nicely manicured front yard. He weaves his wave through the front yard along the wide paved front walk and nods his head at guests who are eating outside this evening. He walks up the wooden front steps to the front door and once inside greets the hostess at the podium.
“Good Evening, how many will be in your party tonight?” She asks kindly from her position with a wide welcoming smile. Bob feels himself anxiously tense at her question and he steps closer to the podium until he’s right in front of it.
“Good Evening, I’m here for a sort of blind date. Y’see I was part of a charity auction date and I don’t know who my date will be.” He confesses to the woman and her eyes widen slightly at his words.
“You’re the Naval Officer.” She says softly and Bob jolts back at her words. How did she know he was a Naval Officer? She shakes her head quickly before beaming at him assuringly. “I know your date, she reserved your table tonight.” The woman said fondly and Bob wondered silently why his date made the reservation and not Mrs. Bennett, but he figured it was better this way at least his date knew this restaurant then.
“Oh, okay. Well that’s good because I’m clueless as to what to eat or do around here.” He said a little self-deprecatingly and the woman shook her head.
“Oh Lettie’s grown up here in Belle Chasse her whole life, she knows all the ins and outs of this area and New Orleans. Plus she’s a great cook and a sort of foodie so she knows all the great places to eat!” The woman said with praise and Bob nodded his head at her words. He smiled softly as the woman practically hyped up her friend to him.
“Do you mind giving us a table separated from the others? I’d like to get to know my date and I’d like to do it in a quiet area.” He asked softly and the woman all but lit up from within as she stared at him with widening eyes.
“Oh of course!” She gushed out happily as she picked up two menus and gestured for him to follow her. Bob followed the woman as she weaved in and out of the tables until she came to one the furthest from the front door in a corner. “Will this be alright?” She asked softly and Bob nodded his head with a smile.
“Yes, this is great. Thank you.” He said kindly as he took a seat in the chair along the wall. She placed the menus down on the table for him and smiled warmly.
“Charlene will be your waitress and she should be along in a little bit. And Lettie should be here in a minute too. Good luck and have fun tonight.” She said as she nearly skipped back to the podium with a grin on her face. Bob chuckled softly as he shook his head at her antics, obviously her and Lettie were close and from the looks of it the woman was happy with Lettie’s date tonight.
Bob felt a buzzing in his pocket and pulled out his cellphone to see the Rocket had texted in the new group chat the squad had created especially for tonight, it was labeled Bob Gets Wifed Up Tonight. And the squad had already started texting in it while Bob had been on his way to the restaurant.
Five bucks says Bob gets lost going to the restaurant. That was from Astro, the only other WSO on the squad. Bob huffs softly before shaking his head as he begins to type out a response.
Already here asshole. There’s a flurry of typing indicators as the rest of the squad begin to chime in. Good luck Bob! Let us know how hot she is! Came Raptor’s response with a thumbs up making Bob shake his head at the words. Don’t be nervous, you totally got this. Came from Kamikaze, their leader, Bob smiled softly at the encouraging words. Tell her we all loved her food the other night! Was Striker’s response and Bob smiled while nodding his head, he would have to remember to tell her that she was super talented. Don’t overthink it, you’re just getting to know the woman. Just let it happen. Was the text from Rocket and Bob felt confidence swirl inside of him at his front seater’s words as his shoulders squared with pride. He leaned forward to slip his cellphone back into his pocket and looked up as he sat back in his chair.
Bob watched as a woman with curly dark brown hair that flowed down to the middle of her back walked into the restaurant and he silently eyed her up and down. She neared the podium while greeting the hostess with a bright smile on her face. She wore a pretty brightly colored floral dress that reached her knees and a pair of turquoise high heels and her hair was styled where one side of it fell on the side in a curtain of curls. He watched as she just about reached the podium when her shoe got caught on the rug and she tripped over it, he grimaced as he watched her catch herself on the podium with both hands and looked around nervously with a bright flush on her face. Bob immediately looked down at the menu on the table trying not to get caught watching her. He idly wondered who she was here to have dinner with. He silently figured a pretty woman like her was most likely here for a date as he looked down at the menu and began to read it to see what he’d like to order.
“You know their seafood gumbo is really good but their smothered catfish is top notch.” came a soft dulcet tone pulling Bob’s attention away from the menu. He looked up slowly to see the same woman he saw just come in standing in front of the empty chair at his table. He smiled unsurely at her while she grinned at him before she jolted in place. “I’m so sorry, where are my manners? My name is Lettie Bennett and I’m your date.” she said proudly and Bob felt his heart nearly stop in his chest.
Quickly standing from his chair Bob grabbed the back of it so that it didn’t topple over in his haste before turning towards the woman in front of him. Her crystalline gray blue eyes widened slightly as she realized what she had said and she chuckled softly while shaking her head. “I swear I’m more charming than this in real life. I’m just a little nervous.” She tried to excuse herself but Bob smiled warmly at her while he moved to stand next to her before taking a hold of her chair and pulling it out for her. He helped her sit in her seat before pushing it in for her as he leaned closer to her.
“Any more charming and I think you’d have to call a doctor for my love stricken heart.” Bob said softly to her and heard her suck in a harsh breath as her face turned upwards to him. He was surprised by his own smoothness as he stared into her dancing eyes.
“Oh that was smooth.” she said softly and Bob grinned at her praise as he walked back towards his seat. He saw her grimace at her admission and couldn’t stop the fluttering of his stomach. He was entranced by her already and it was only the beginning of their date. Never had he felt so comfortable and at ease with a date, it was a really nice change and Bob could already feel himself falling into a sense of security with her. “Sorry for being late, were you waiting long…?” she asked sweetly and looked at him as if she was expecting him to speak up.
“Oh, Robert-Robert Floyd. But you can call me Bob, it's my call sign. And I wasn’t waiting that long at all.” he said in a rush as he realized what she was waiting for. He watched as a pretty smile bloomed on her face and he felt as if his insides were vibrating with how happy he felt.
“Robert Floyd, that’s a nice name. Why is your call sign Bob though? Does it stand for something or is it your nickname?” she asked as she tilted her head to the side while watching him with curious eyes.
“It does stand for something but you have to earn the right to know it.” he said feeling excited and mischievous and watched as her eyes widened at his words. He smirked softly as he watched her quietly study him trying to figure out what his call sign stood for.
“I have so many ideas on what it could mean now.” she said almost in awe and Bob grinned widely at her excitement. He couldn’t help but be sucked up in her excitement as he watched her continue to think about what his call sign could mean. “How do I earn the right to know the meaning?” she asked curiously as her eyes turned back to him, Bob sat mesmerized for a moment before internally shaking his head.
“Once I know for sure I’ve got a second date with you then I’ll tell you what it stands for.” he said suavely and watched as her eyes widened slightly as a sparkle lit up from within. Bob was impressed that he was able to pull off that line and that she had reacted in a positive way. This was the first date that wasn’t going down in flames in a very long time and Bob was surprised by it all.
“Well let’s get through dinner and see where we’re at.” she said in a chipper tone and Bob nodded his head at her eagerly. Just then the waitress came over and Bob vaguely remembered her name was Charlene.
“Welcome to Restaurant de Familles, my name is Charlene-Oh! Lettie! How are you sweetheart?” Charlene began to introduce herself before noticing Lettie sitting at the table. Bob smiled softly as Charlene lit up as she spotted Lettie and he internally took note that Lettie caused that reaction with everyone she greeted. “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry! I’m interrupting.” Charlene gasped out softly as her eyes darted back to Bob who smiled and shook his head. “Let me take your drink order. Sorry! What would you like to drink?” Charlene began to rush out and Bob chuckled softly at her words. He looked at Lettie expectantly and she jolted in surprise at his manners of letting her order first.
“Can I have a Coke Charlene?” she asked kindly and Charlene quickly jotted down the order before turning to Bob.
“Can I have the same?” he asked, causing Charlene to eagerly nod her head before jotting it down and rushing off to fill the order.
“Sorry, I know mostly everyone who works here.” Lettie said softly with a small grimace. Bob shook his head as he smiled widely at her.
“No reason to apologize. How do you know them all?” he asked curiously as he looked at her earnestly across the table.
“Oh the hostess is Maddie, she’s been my best friend since pre-k. Charlene I’ve known since high school when she moved to Belle Chasse. And then there’s probably Leon in the kitchen, I’ve known him since Culinary school. The others have just been either school friends or tagalongs at parties that became close friends. We’re all close so it’s hard to go to a restaurant and not know someone who works there.” Lettie explained and Bob nodded his head along with her words eager to find out more about the woman in front of him.
“You’re a wonderful chef by the way.” Bob rushed out softly and Lettie beamed up at him at the praise he gave her. “I mean Geronimo told us that you were the chef at the charity event and we all loved your cooking. It was delicious!” he blurted out and then ducked his head in embarrassment.
“That’s the greatest compliment I could’ve ever received.” Lettie said truthfully with a warm smile and Bob darted his eyes up to watch her own eyes crinkle at the corners as her smile widened. Bob smiled softly at her and Lettie grinned at him. “Seriously, I love to cook! It’s a passion of mine and I work at Commander’s Palace on Washington Ave as a chef.” Lettie explained and Bob spotted Charlene coming back with their drinks. He panicked slightly and darted his eyes back down to the menu in his hands.
“Charlene’s coming back and I have no idea what to order.” he confessed softly and Lettie grinned softly at him before nodding her head and winking cheekily at him. Bob felt his face flush slightly at her action just as Charlene came back to the table with the drinks.
“So have you decided on what you’d like to have for dinner?” she asked sweetly as she placed the glasses on the table. Bob began to flounder as he gripped the menu tightly in his hands until Lettie reached out and set her hand over one of his.
“Robert’s going to have the smothered catfish and I’ll have the seafood gumbo. Would you bring out two extra plates so that we can share the food too? I’d like him to try both dishes.” Lettie ordered easily and confidently causing Bob to stare at her silent amazement consuming his face.
“Of course Lettie!” Charlene chirped happily as she gently took the menu from Bob’s hands making him nod his head before handing over the menu to her. He watched as she whirled on her heel and left them alone once more.
“Thank you.” he said softly and Lettie smiled brightly at him as she nodded her head.
“Of course! The chef Leon here is wonderful!” she said happily.
“You said you went to culinary school with him right?” Bob asked, remembering what she had said before about her friends. Bob sat there stunned as Lettie seemed to blossom in front of him, her face shone brightly with happiness as she realized he had remembered what she said earlier.
“Yes, he’s a good friend and was a great help while I was going through the school with him. We really leaned on each other for support and help.” she said and Bob nodded his head at her words. “Tell me about you though, I feel as if I’ve only been talking about me.” Lettie suddenly said as a pretty flush covered her cheeks.
“Oh well, I joined the Navy right out of high school. I’ve moved up into the position of Weapons System Operator. I’m on a squad of six including myself and I’ve been here for a month now with no transfer date assigned yet.” Bob began to tell her and Lettie watched him with rapt attention as she took a sip from her drink.
“So you’re here for the near future until you get assigned a transfer date?” she asked curiously and Bob nodded his head at her. “And what does a Weapons System Operator do?” she asked as she tilted her head to the side. Bob was shocked for a moment that a woman on a date with him was curious about his career.
“I sit behind the aviator and man all the weapons in his aircraft. My aviator is Rocket, he’s one of my closest friends in the Navy. Been with him since we got out of the academy.” Bob said fondly and Lettie smiled warmly at him.
“So do you have three aviators and three weapons system operators on your squad?” she asked while her eyes danced on him. Bob felt a little uneasy with all of her attention on him but he couldn't help but feel good about it as well. It was the first time that a woman was interested in him, normally his dates would be bored by now and looking for a way out of the date. It made him feel wanted and confident.
“No we have only two WSOs on the squad and four aviators.” he explained and laughed when Lettie tilted her head to the side confused. “WSOs are normally for ground fighting rather than air fighting. Plus we’re also able to monitor radar for any enemy aircrafts.” Bob said and smiled as he watched Lettie’s eyes widen while she nodded her head.
“Wow.” she said softly and Bob chuckled at her shock. He watched as she quickly ducked her head while smiling and he thought she looked cute when she grew embarrassed over things. Her mannerisms were absolutely adorable to him as she flushed regularly and ducked her head in embarrassment while smiling good-naturedly at herself. “That’s a very impressive career. Have you been stationed anywhere else?” she asked curiously and Bob nodded his head.
“I’ve been to Virginia a few times, Texas, and my last base was in Florida.” he told her and watched as she nodded her head with wide eyes.
“That sounds exciting, do you get down time to sight see?” she asked and Bob nodded his head.
“We get some breaks and usually we’ll spend it either going out around base or we’ll go visit family.” Bob tells her. He’s sitting there watching as she nods her head and her eyes follow his little movements avidly, making his chest puff out with confidence that she’s interested in him. He’s a little thrown off balance to have someone of the opposite sex actually interested in him and not one of his squad mates. It’s a nice change he admits to himself but he’s still cautious and wary that she won’t like him when she learns more about him.
“And where is your family from?” Lettie asks curiously and Bob is reminded once again that she’s interested in him and wants to learn more about him.
“Colorado, my parents are still there and my older brother is in the next town over from them.” he said fondly as he thought about his family. A soft smile formed on his face and he watched as Lettie mirrored it kindly.
“That sounds nice, Colorado’s cold though isn’t it?” she asked as her head tilted to the side as she began to recall anything about Colorado. Bob chuckled softly and nodded his head.
“It can be. The winters are normally cold and snowy but the summers are hot. Not like the weather here where it’s mostly hot and humid.” he said with a teasing smile.
“I haven’t been outta Belle Chasse since I was born so I don’t know how I’d do in the cold let alone snow!” Lettie said earnestly with a twinkling laugh that captured Bob’s attention.
“Have you ever wanted to travel?” he asked curiously as his eyebrows furrowed softly. Lettie looked up at him before nodding her head quickly making her curly hair bounce around her head. She grinned as a curl fell in front of her face and she blew it out of the way playfully.
“Oh yeah! But my mother’s a little old school and doesn’t like for her children to be too far away from her. Plus I’ve been in school since I started and only out of culinary school about two years now.” she told him. “I finished high school at eighteen then went straight into college for my business degree and then went into culinary school. Finished that just as I turned twenty-three and have been working full time ever since the last day.” she said proudly and Bob could sense that she took her education and career seriously.
“A business degree huh? Do you want to open up your own restaurant?” he asked curiously as his eyes darted past her to see Charlene coming over with their food balanced on a large tray.
“Not a restaurant per se, maybe my own baking company one day.” Lettie said wistfully and Bob wondered what was holding her back from her dream.
“Lettie girl if you opened a baking company I’m pretty sure you’d put all the local bakeries outta business.” Charlene said as she set up the tray and began to serve the dishes. Lettie grinned at her as she took the plate from her hands. “Not to mention I’m pretty sure your Mama would be hopping mad. Would be totally worth it just to see that sight.” Charlene said conspiratorily and Bob watched as Lettie flinched at the mention of her mother’s disapproval. “But it would be absolutely nothing for you to do. You’re always so organized and level headed when it comes to anything.”
“Thanks Charlene.” Lettie said with a smile that wasn’t as bright Bob noticed and he wondered if she had family issues with her mother. Bob waited quietly as Charlene finished serving the food and let them know to call for her if they needed anything before she left them. “I’m sorry, Charlene sometimes has no filter.” Lettie said softly and Bob quickly shook his head.
“We’ve all got things that we’d rather not air out on the first date. If you ever meet my squadmates they’d tell you all my embarrassing stories. In fact I’m sure Astro, the other WSO, would love to tell you all my secrets.” Bob reassured her and Lettie grinned over at him causing Bob to suck in a sharp breath. She was a gorgeous woman and to have all of her attention made Bob feel as if he was drunk. He watched as she began to set aside some of her seafood gumbo onto a small plate for him before she spoke up happily.
“So they know all the juicy tidbits about you?” she asked teasingly and Bob smiled at her question.
“They certainly know some of them.” he said while shaking his head.
“Here, try some of the seafood gumbo. It’s really good here. Also your catfish dish is one of my favorites.” she said as she began to dig into her dish.
“Would you like some?” he asked as he pointed down to his dish before he began to cut some of the fish and moved it to the other small plate.
“Oh no, you didn’t have to share.” she tried to say quickly but Bob just shook his head.
“It’s your favorite dish of course I’m going to share.” he told her kindly and she smiled warmly at him.
“Thank you.” she told him before the two of them fell silent while they ate.
Lettie was right that the seafood gumbo was great but the smothered catfish was one of the best dishes he’d ever eaten. He groaned softly as he ate the catfish and Lettie chuckled knowingly as she watched him close his eyes in pleasure. “Told ya it was amazing.” she said happily and Bob nodded while his eyes fluttered open. Bob silently watched as Lettie continued eating and he knew if they continued to go out she’d always have the best suggestions on what to eat.
*-*-*-*
The restaurant was closing now and Bob was shocked to find that he had spent hours in a restaurant talking with Lettie. The range of conversation between the two covered pretty much everything that Bob could think of to talk about on a first date. He was surprised to find how easy it was to hold a conversation with her and how it never seemed to end. He was even more surprised to find that he didn’t want the conversation to end. He liked spending time with Lettie he found, and he was hoping that she felt the same way since he’d love to do this again.
After paying for the food and drinks Bob got up from the table and helped Lettie from her chair, he suavely slipped her hand into the crook of his elbow as he began to walk her out of the restaurant. Lettie beamed up at him with slightly widened eyes before she tucked herself in closer to him. Bob noticed the difference in height as his eyes looked across the top of her head, arousal simmered in his lower stomach at the thought of how small she was next to him. A sense of protectiveness surged through him and he rested his free hand over hers. Once the two of them stepped out of the front door of the restaurant Bob looked around the parking lot and saw a few cars still parked in spaces.
“So where’s your car Lettie?” he asked softly before speaking up once more. “So I know how to take the long way to your car.” Lettie gasped softly before bursting out into delighted laughter.
“I actually do have to get home soon.” she said regrettably. “I’m helping one of my sister’s with the food for her next charity event and I’ve got to get the planning of it started.” Bob let his shoulders fall in defeat at her words but then felt a slight warmth encase him as her hand gripped his elbow tighter. “It’s the bug over there.” she said as she nodded towards her car. Bob turned his head and spotted the beat up red Volkswagen Bug while a smile spread across his face. “What?” she asked worriedly as a smile spread on her face too. Bob shook his head before turning back to her.
“The car fits your personality perfectly.” he said fondly and Lettie blushed under the street lamps as Bob began to guide her towards her car. They walked at a leisure pace and all too soon Bob found himself at the side of Lettie’s car. He smiled as his eyes danced over the car and saw that while it was older and a little beat up it was very well taken care of. Lettie unlocked it with her key fob and Bob opened the driver side door for her. She moved to stand in the space between the door and the car and turned to him with a happy bright grin on her face.
“I had a wonderful time tonight.” she said softly in a low tone that made Bob’s insides heat with pleasure and desire. He nodded his head at her words as he reached up to push his glasses further up his nose.
“I did too. In fact I’d love to take you out again if you’re willing.” he suggested in a tone just as low and soft as hers. He watched delightedly as her eyes sparkled under the street lamps and her smile widened.
“Give me your phone.” She instructed him gently and he handed it over without a thought in his mind. He watched as she pulled up his contacts and then typed in her name before typing in her phone number. He felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as she put her number into his phone. It was another first for him to be able to get a woman’s number after the first date. “Now you have my number, text me whenever you want to plan another date.” she said with a teasing grin directed at him. Bob leaned against the driver’s side door as he took his phone back from her and Lettie leaned on the opposite side of the door towards him. There was a tension building between the two of them and Bob wanted so badly to kiss her. He knew from the way her eyes kept darting down to his mouth that she wanted it just as badly as he did. Bob watched as her eyes darted down to his lips once more before she moved forward quickly and then yelped in pain.
“Are you okay?! What happened?” he asked her quickly as he rushed to move around the door to survey her injury.
“I hit my knee on the side of the door.” she groaned out softly and Bob chuckled quietly as he eased her into the driver’s seat.
“Here let me see.” he eased her softly as his hands came to grip her calf gently and angle her knee up for him to see. He heard Lettie gasp softly and he looked up worriedly that she was hurt worse but she shook her head at his worried look.
“I’m okay, your hand feels good around my leg.” she confessed before groaning loudly and burying her face in her hands while Bob chuckled good naturedly as confidence surged up inside him again. He leaned in close to her face and smiled as she peeked out from behind her fingers.
“You’re a little clumsy aren’t you?” he asked fondly and she groaned while nodding her head.
“Even more so than this.” she confessed and Bob smiled at her words. He leaned in further while resting the bottom of her shoe on his thigh as he grinned at her.
“Well I’ll always be here to help you back up Lettie.” he said softly to her and Lettie’s eyes widened at his soft confession before Bob smoothly leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss to her lips. Lettie’s hands fell to his chest and then fisted in the front of his shirt pulling him closer to her as her lips slanted against his deepening the kiss. Bob moaned softly into her mouth and Lettie whimpered in response causing Bob to pull away so that he could try and calm his rising desire for her. “It’s only the first date Lettie.” He teased her gently and she whined softly as she leaned forward chasing his mouth.
“I like you Bob.” she confessed softly and Bob felt his heart soar in his chest as butterflies danced in his stomach. “I like you a lot. I want to get to know you more. I want to kiss you more. I want to fog up those adorable glasses of yours.” she mumbled to him and Bob felt desire race down his spine and settle at his lower back. He groaned softly as he eased her legs into her car and moved back from her.
“All within good time Lettie.” he promised her before pressing another kiss to her mouth making her hum and coo at him. When he knew she had to get going home Bob pulled away and stood from his crouched position. “Get home safely. I’ll text you to make sure you did.” he said softly before moving away from the car and closing her door for her. She beamed dreamily up at him through her now open window and Bob chuckled softly at seeing how much she had been affected by the kiss.
“I’ll see you Bob. Text me.” she husked out to him and Bob felt his body react instantly to her words. He stepped further back and watched as she pulled out of her parking spot and then drove out of the parking lot. He smiled softly as he saw her hand come out of the window and wave at him before she turned down the road and headed up. Bob sighed softly as he grinned to himself and walked towards his own car, he felt his phone vibrate in his hand and turned it over to see that the group text had exploded with messages from the squad, the most current one from Rocket making Bob grin widely. Bob Floyd if you don’t answer this text message we are sending out a SEARCH PARTY! It’s been THREE HOURS! Where are you?!
I’m out gettin’ the girl. Bob responded with a giddy laugh as he slipped into his car and started it up.

"Ah!"
Lumi yelps softly as she pops through through the portal, stumbling before standing up. As she makes her way over to the railing, Green pops through. She quickly scrambles away, just as Blue and Red shove their ways through. They squabble a bit, but soon, quite down as The Purple One ambles their way out.
"And for the main event of the night! Ladies and gentlemen, all those in-between and not!" A loud and proud voice calls. The group of cats turn their attention to the main viewing area, where Bioluminescent and Coral were seated. However, Bioluminescent was floating above a small podium, with a microphone in front of her.
"That's the other me.." Lumi whispers, her eyes wide. "She looks so different!"
"She's thrown herself into her loyalty to Leto." TPO informs her, their face creased with worry. "And it looks like she's dragging that poor girl into it.."
"Everyone, you know her, and you love her! Our reigning champion, our ferocious fighter!" As Bioluminescent continues to hype up the crowd, their cheering grew loud. "Our Silver Champion, ROOT!"
"There's no way the kid.. agrees with this, right?" Red's eyes narrow more as he watches Root emerge.
"As you all know, the basic rules are that if you either last more than 10 minutes against Root or manage to knock her down, you win!"
"It seems like she does.." Green's ears pin against his head. "Look at that smile. She looks almost battlehungry."
"If you win, you get the cash prize! Lose, and you go back to the start of the tournament!"
Lumi's own ears flatten against her head. This wasn't right. Root wasn't supposed to be all battlehungry. She was a kid! What was Leto doing to her?!
"Aaaaand, BEGIN!"
The group of cats watch with bated breath as Root and the Program rush towards each other.
It's not even close.
TPO watches with disbelief as Root ruthlessly fights with the program. She's swift, and her eyes are narrowed in the same was as Leto's whenever she trained her.
Am I too late? They thought. Again? Have I failed someone again?
"I'm sure there's something we can do," Blue whispers, his tail gently flicking. "If we can find a way out of our universe, we can figure out where she's staying."
"Ugh, why can't we just trail her?" Red frowns.
"And get caught?" Blue scoffs. "That's such a great idea."
The red cat grumbles at that. Meanwhile, Lumi turns her attention back to the ongoing fight.
She had a feeling this wasn't so easy..
○●○
"What was Bioluminescent talking about?" Root asks once the fight is over, with Coral helping to clean her up. "I thought this wasn't a fighting ring?"
"It isn't." Coral soothes her worries. "She just gets like that sometimes. Plus, it helps us with revenue. You don't want this place to shut down, do you?"
Root shook her head. No, this was a home away from home. Coral was like..
Was Coral like a parental figure to her? She did have Antivirus for that. But.. he didn't know about this. She didn't intend for him to, ever. She fully intended on keeping this a secret from everyone.
"Coral, do.. do you think I'm doing something wrong?" She asks softly. "Not telling anyone?"
"Of course not." Coral gently flicks her nose. "They'll all understand when you finally reveal it to them. They'll be so impressed by you deciding to take training to make sure you can keep them safe."
"Thanks, Coral." Root smiles and hugs the 'Admin'. Coral merely smiles, pupils turning to slits as she gently returns the hug and pats the back of Root's head.
"Of course, little one." 'Coral's' eyes glow dangerously. "Anything for you to be able to be strong and defend yourself and those you love."

Appreciations time for my special guys!!! Aqua20 my beloved, team vod review, top of the leaderboard the entire event and one of the best teams I've ever watched <3 the communication was outstanding the vibes were excellent, they were hype but not loud, they were sooo supportive and clearly having a blast, watching their pov was a wonderful culmination of months of effort to improve at the video game solely out of a love for the event and a determination to be the best they can be <3 and a healthy dose of sweaty competitiveness lmao they're a teensy sweaty, just a lil-
Some choice Aqua20 moments:
-that One Guy who came into H's chat before the event saying they hoped his team lost and H called them out and said he'd win the event specifically because this guy "pissed him off" lmaoo
-H not having the right permissions to access the aqua vc in the discord until like 30 minutes before the event <3
-5up making an Entire Graph for build mart
-Ant advising everyone to put their tree graphics on fancy specifically because it lets you see through the leaves?? What a wild strat lmao
-H, bouncing around the new hub: "see chat this is what twitch rivals needs.......... content" LMAO
-the immediate attempts to a) pet the dogs and b) break the map and c) them succeeding at getting into the volcano and ship and also maybe the winner's podium?
-jazzercise. This is a recurring theme. Watch H's pov on the practice server before the event to witness... whatever that video was
-according to Gem the entire team was up until midnight her time vod reviewing together, which might explain why none of them slept??? H got maybe one hour of sleep and 5up three at most,,, guys please
-H opening Pokemon cards the entire event and occasionally pausing the conversation to show off his cards. Discussing game strategy? No, look at this alt art Umbreon instead
-5up carrying parkour tag as hunter
-Gem going "that's our little kitty cat!" at Ant
-the increasing shock and despair with each round in parkour tag when the opposing team sent their strongest hunter after them Every Single Time (the Pain in their voices when Fruitninja hunted >)
-GRID RUNNERS!! They popped tf off the communication was excellent they did so well what a good gr run
-that awkward moment in the golf grid runners room where they miss hitting H into the platform three (3) times
-Bad appearing in H and Ant's chats and telling them if they won he'd give Rat treats
-Ant getting zero (0) coins in the second round of rocket spleef rush. This haunts him the entire event
-Ant constantly asking people to build the bridge and walls in sky battle and just. no one doing it lmaooo
-5up's Spotify crashing halfway through the event and him being unable to restart it without breaking his entire stream (how??)
-Gem continually understanding what Ant was trying to say in his rapid panic ramblings, basically translating for 5up and H
-every time someone started getting down on themself the entire team would go crazy with encouragement :')
-Gem disapproving of their punching in tgttos because she believes in "punch karma"
-Ant H and 5up all ruining someone's day by punching anyway, and Elaina and Tubbo screaming their hatred at them in the post call
-5up punching Scar in tgttos and being So distressed about it, and Gem calling him a "little toxic" for it lmaoo
-Gem crossly telling the other hermits off for killing or punching her like >:( Falsesymmetry leave me alone >:(
-Ranboo killed 5up in tgttos at some point, a betrayal 5up could not forgive (and bonus Ranboo apologizing during DB while rooting for 5up to get his win)
-the way shot calling naturally passed between the team across the games and how there was no argument over who would do what
-I cannot stress this enough, H was opening Pokemon cards the entire event
-"we're so cool and hot and sexy"
-5up literally opening Pete's python's crypt run During the event to watch it one more time before they played ace race. Team vod review fr
-5up being so nervous for his strat in BM to the point where he almost wanted Battle Box instead
-Gem being nervous about sands of time and the whole team coming up with alternate strategies on the spot so she wouldn't have to do something she wasn't comfortable with (and then Gem going further than ever before as runner)
-everything about sot actually. The mobs in the hub and 5up telling them not to worry about it. The synergy of Gem getting the blue vault key, giving it to H to do the lava parkour, H calling in sandkeeper 5up to collect the actual coins as they'd be safer with him. 5.9k coins and no deaths!!
-DODGEBOLT!!! Three first time players!! Hermit on Hermit violence!! Gem's distress at fighting the other Hermits!! Ant word vomiting super specific highly detailed strategy while H leans back in his chair and then tells Ant to breathe lmaooo
-each round ending in a 1v1 with a different new winner getting the final shot,,,,, the training arc,,, the poeticness cannot be understated
-5up final DB round. What the fuck was that pink man
-Ant immediately opening his vod while still in the post mcc call to start reviewing his performance,,, king please it's been 20 minutes
(Ant proclaiming that the "vod review grind never stops" as he does so, and H earlier saying he'd see them all tomorrow for vod reviews)
-5up commissioning an art piece of them winning awwwww
-Ant being so happy after the event he almost started crying :')
GG to Aqua 20, what a fantastic team 💙💙

silk sheets — min yoongi (full book) | CHAPTER THREE: LOVE OR LUST?
Warnings ─ preliminary smut, please DNI if you are a minor!
previous chapter — next chapter
As the young CEO drove in the comforting silence of his gleaming Chevrolet, his eyes trailed across the beautiful constellation of stars that hung above him, peppered into the dark night sky. He smiled, the soft tune of his favourite song filling the empty space of the lavish vehicle as his fingertips gently grazed the soft leather expanse of the car's steering wheel.
Now glancing over to the moon, his car rolled into the affluent neighbourhood. Watching the full face of the pearl brang a wide smile to his own features, the mere thought of holding his wife after a long day injecting warmth under the skin of his cheeks.
In all honesty, he had never really paid attention to the female specimen prior to meeting Park Sora. In fact, while he was frantically studying for his college degree, he allowed his parents to arrange any relationships they desired in order to strengthen the family business. In his mind, it was a win-win situation: he could work closer towards completing his degree, and his parents would remain satisfied that their only son would be a married man following college.
But those four remaining months passed by within the blink of an eye. As time travelled, Jimin found himself standing on the podium to address his cohort for the valedictorian speech he had been chosen to deliver. Fresh out of college, with the ink still left to dry on his graduation certificate, it was only weeks later that he found himself waiting under the altar with cold feet, the pressure to start his own family weighing down upon his shaking shoulders as his parents watched with happy, plastered smiles.
During that time, it was no surprise that the boy felt lonely. Amidst a sea of hundreds constantly roaming the many floors of his parents' mansion, like bees in a hive to prepare for the grandly pompous Park family wedding, Jimin, more often than not, found himself caged into the four walls of his room. It was the only room that was simply decorated because it was the only room he really had any control over. In fact, the boy chose to leave his haven of comfort only to attend routinely fittings or press interviews about his upcoming big day, otherwise, he'd be sitting down by his window, guitar in hand, his soft voice vocalising any lyrics that came to mind.
Upon the big day, he even surprised himself when he mumbled the fateful words of promise, his wedding vows, despite knowing next to nothing about his would-be wife. Hell, had it not been for his best man Jungkook standing behind him (quite literally), the elder was sure he would have run out of the church like a crazed man, screaming out of nerves like a headless chicken that had just been plucked of its feathers.
But despite the suffocating timeframe, Park Sora was his everything.
On the night of their honeymoon, while Jungkook and the rest of the groomsmen had been trying to hype their newly wedded friend up, Jimin stood outside his excessively decorated room wanting to shit himself.
At that moment, the man was a thread away from the definition of a virgin, nothing but passionate makeout sessions with his once former girlfriend giving him any form of experience. He had never been embarrassed by his non-existent body count, but it was what his counterpart may have had that made him feel insecure. After all, he didn't want to disappoint her: not only did she deserve a magical night, but their parents both wished for grandchildren from the get-go.
"Just shoot your goddamn shot," Jungkook reassured, a playful smirk gracing him as he pushed the shy male into the room. Had it not been for the fact that Jimin practically fell onto the bed that night from the force of his friend's push, things would have gone a lot more smoothly, he felt. His face landed inches away from her lap, her soft giggle bubbling out almost perfectly as he groaned, her hand moving to cup his cheek as he too found a sheepish smile playing at his lips.
Though the pair had done nothing sexual that night, it was when he woke up with the sleeping woman laying in the comfort of his arms that he realised she was the one. No more sporadic guitar sessions, no more irresponsible gaming sprees, and certainly, no more ridiculous dreams focused on singing, he thought.
It was time for Jimin to become a family man.
Now pulling up the driveway, he lifted his foot off the acceleration to take one last glance at the white diamonds that had forged a sprinkle of perfection and beauty in the depths of the midnight blue. If he was the darkness in the back, Sora was his light – the stars that shined and twinkled relentlessly against the forefront of its opposing counterpart. It was for a moment that he forgot, however, that stars can't shine without darkness.
That Park Sora was nothing without her rich CEO husband.
"Jimin, oh my goodness! I was so worried!"
The painstakingly obvious concern was evident in her voice. Her hushed yet desperate whimpers only further egged on her facade, slipper-clad feet scurrying closer to Jimin as she kept her arms by her sides in crocodile innocence. But the handsome CEO continued to pull his fatigued self through the large wooden doors of his humble abode – one of the largest mansions in the vicinity – unknown to her true intent.
It was far too dark in the large mansion for either to see their partner. So, she began to quickly fix her hair, glancing back to make sure all the servants were in their private quarters before looking forward to gaze upon Jimin.
He only smiled in response, not yet noticing her interesting but inviting choice of pink lacy silk as he removed his shoes in silence at the entrance of the door. But of course, she had only wanted him to come home early for her own satisfaction. The woman was a housewife, unknown to the fruits of hard work and labour as she kept herself reserved to the mansion Jimin had given her only.
"Sora, my love, forgive me?" Jimin called in the darkness, his eyes barely making out his beautiful woman's figure as he strode closer to her calmly, guided merely by the direction of her voice. She only pouted, her desperation pooling within her slightly shaking thighs as she eyed the way her husband had carried himself with so much confidence. His presence commanded respect, and she was more than willing to give him what she thought kept a man happy – pleasure, satisfaction and love.
He, unaware to her plight, wrapped his lean arms around his wife's waist, but not before removing his jacket and throwing it onto the ground tiredly. She only gulped, her eyes closing while her lips parted slightly in the mere prospect of feeling his cold fingers gripping her hips as she nodded to his previous question. His hands now felt the silk she sported in the dark, a quick inhalation of her sweet scent forcing him to press her against the wall closest to him as one of his hands felt around the surface for the light closest to the married couple.
Her chest heaved up and down in embarrassment, however, once the lights turned on, she shivered in delight at the sight of her taller husband's flushed face. She wrapped her arms around his neck slowly, glancing at her husband's tongue darting across his thick lips as he eyed her lace-clad figure up and down in surprise. Loosening his tie, she threw the pesky object behind the two of them, her waiting eyes watching her husband as he pressed hot smooches down the length of her unmarked neck.
"I missed you so much today," she whispered, her redly painted lips forming a knowing smirk as her manicured nails dragged through the silky hair of her hardworking husband. She pressed her hips against his own, desperate for the friction before groaning in pleasure, now twisting his newly dyed blonde strands in between her thin fingers.
"I can tell, princess," he confirmed, his soft fingers now moving to trail along her exposed back, encouraging her to arch her body into his as his kisses trailed lower to her shoulders. His hands held her biceps gently, rubbing them before pulling her closer to press her body flush against his, much as she wanted.
She only tugged his hair back, sucking on his bottom lip feverishly as one leg moved to wrap around her lover's waist. His hand moved to caress her thigh fondly as she found herself rubbing his chest, coaxing the buttons of his shirt open one by one as she continued to roll her hips passionately.
"Why were you so late today, baby?" she whimpered as Jimin gripped the back of her other thigh to hold her up. Both legs wrapped around his envious waist.
"I had to help Yoongi out," he shortly stated, the impatience of wanting to make love to his woman clearly overpowering his tiredness as his hot, open-mouthed smooches were pressed against the waiting skin of his lover's chest. She only moaned louder to his actions, biting her lip in sudden annoyance as she cupped his cheeks. That stopped his actions.
"Again?" she whispered, her thumbs stroking Jimin's warm cheeks as she fought back tears of pain. He sat her on his lap now, guilt clouding his orbs as he frowned apologetically.
Her eyebrows were knitted into a tight knot of confusion, suddenly wanting to stop the actions she had fantasized all morning about as she averted her gaze from his own.
"Princess," he softly trailed, rubbing her back soothingly as she hugged herself to the hard chest of her husband. Fisting his open shirt angrily, she bit back tears of jealousy as the growing lump was swallowed.
She was tired of feeling like she was in second place to just some man unable to be self-sufficient in his own earnings. After all, this wasn't the first time such a similar scenario had played out regarding the pair.
She absolutely loathed Min Yoongi.
"Why him?" she whimpered, her voice sounding shakier as each syllable left her now chapped lips. She no longer cared for her ruined makeup, nor for the fact that her night had been snatched away from her.
He only smiled sadly, his hand moving to stroke her smooth hair as she wrapped her arms around his neck in agony, a choked sob finally escaping her lips as the hot tears of anger towards Min Yoongi forced her to grit her teeth. Jimin had now stopped their actions for the night by wrapping a blanket around their sexually frustrated selves, a sigh escaping his swollen lips as he only pulled her closer to quieten his wife's sniffles.
"Seriously? I drive you home for free and you don't even thank me?"
Jungkook rolled his eyes in agitation, almost slamming his head against the steering wheel of his new car as Yoongi only chuckled. The latter was reluctant to leave the heated space of the secretary's car, but still, forced himself to unbuckle his seatbelt, now allowing his lethargy to guide him out of Jungkook's territory with the promise of laying in his bed sooner.
"We all know your only method of payment is dick," Yoongi scoffed, his hand now moving to card through his jet-black hair as he smirked.
The younger only clicked his tongue in annoyance, rolling the window of his black car up once muttering a forced 'goodnight' out at the older male.
Yoongi sighed, waving gently before turning on his heel to trudge back to his spacious apartment.
Once Jimin had left to serve his wife hand and foot, all the pair had done was eat in silence to fill the awkward atmosphere the two had created. And while Jungkook's mind struggled to think of conversation starters to make the burnt Chinese food less bitter, Yoongi only thought of the woman Jimin and Jungkook had been so entranced by.
Jung Jiha.
Curiously whipping his phone out to search her name up on Instagram, he smiled as the cracked screen lit up with the name and face of the strangely attractive woman he had seen at the restaurant mere hours ago with his two best friends.

last night I had the most vivid dream I’ve had in ages and it was about mcc and I thought you’d like to hear it. It was about mcc 17 and both orange and purple made it to dodgebolt after purple had an absolutely cracked sands of time as the last game (coming out like a full 2 mins after everyone else). When the final scores appeared Grian typed in chat ‘can we just have two winner I don’t want to do dodgebolt’ to which H replied ‘PLEASE’ and Noxite said no. The vibes of the dodgebolt were super chill compared to any of the recent ones with both teams talking about how great it would be for either team to win. Orange won the first two rounds with everyone on the team popping off then the 3rd round came down to a 1v2 with Ren against False and Pete. He waited for a while to shot while H gave a pep talk then took the shots getting both False and Pete one after the other which resulted in the whole of purple going wild and false saying ‘ren how dare you’ in chat and grian also cheering for him despite being on the other team. The next round started with Ren going for the first arrow and managing to shoot false again and her (very affectionately) calling him an absolute butthead. Ren was then taken out by Grian almost straight after and false stood in front of him at the side just slowly shaking her head and ren bowed down his head causing false to laugh and tell him he did amazing, then the two spent the whole rest of the round jumping and clicking on each other at the sides while purple won the round. The final round false took a shot at ren but missed then pete got him though false was sad she couldn’t get her revenge. It came down to a 1v1 with Grian against H. Grian stopped and paused to get his breathing calm then very quickly took the shot killing H, winning for Orange. As Orange were up on the podium the whole of purple went and joined their vc and excitedly congratulated them. H asked Grian and SB how their first win felt and hyped up the whole team for their performance and he congratulated pete on joining the 4 win club. Grian got 11th again just being blocked from his first top 10 by H in 10th then Martyn just behind in 12th. False was kinda diminishing her role on the team which everyone argued with her on and cub pointed out how she had taken each of the hermits to their first victory. Lime then also joined the call congratulating everyone and in turn everyone also congratulated gem on a great first performance. Most of them stayed in the call for a while after just hyping each other up and talking about how much fun they had in the event and I woke up so happy only to be disappointed realising it didn’t actually happen. Well here’s to hoping I’ve gained the gift of prophecy I guess.
I??? This is so sweet and wholesome and I hate how I can see every detail of this happening. APOLLO INTERACT NOW
“The vibes of the dodgebolt were super chill compared to any of the recent ones with both teams talking about how great it would be for either team to win.” Dhjdejjsz. This feels so realistic. You nailed what it would be like. They totally would talk about how happy they would be if their friends won.
FALSE WOULD CALL REN A BUTTHEAD and she would diminish her role and everyone would call bullshit.
This is so cute <33 should be a fanfiction, if not reality <3
Thanks for sharing :D

August Contest Submission #6: The Burdens of Winning
Words: ca. 6,000 Setting: mAU Lemon: No CW: None
The bus rounded the corner and there they were, the Olympic rings, practically gleaming in the sunlight as if welcoming the busloads of athletes to the world stage. Elsa kept her earbuds in and didn’t move from her seat like so many of the others, whipping out their phones and snapping photos and selfies, crowding the far side of the bus. The trainers and coaches turned a blind eye. There was a pandemic and they should stay apart, but the joy was good for morale and in turn, good for winning. After a few minutes, the athletes settled back into their seats. The energy remained alive, buzzing. Elsa could hear the excited chatter through her music. She sighed heavily and pulled her hood up before leaning her head against the window.
They had been in Tokyo for who knows how many days now. Time outside the pool blended together into a blur. All Elsa knew was that the opening ceremony was tonight and she was being forced to attend. Somewhere in there was a series of interviews and promos as well. The burden of being the female face of the national swim team was heavy and exhausting. Each medal she won, each record she broke, the media demanded more. She hated every moment in front of a camera.
She adjusted her goggles and stepped up onto the block. The entire team was here, practicing. If she was nostalgic, she would have thought of the good old days, being in school, always practicing as a team, the water forever choppy with the various strokes and kicks. But she had no time for that and she actively chose to ignore how lonely her professional training really was. The accumulation of years of practice, countless laps, hours of training in the water, and even more outside of it.
To her right a coach was shouting at various swimmers, calling them by their names. She didn’t bother to meet them or get to know them. A few familiar faces and names, sure, but she didn’t know them really. A lot of the team wouldn’t even qualify into the finals with her, a friendship would just be a distraction and another disappointment in a long line of disappointments.
A whistle blew somewhere to her left, it wasn’t her coach so she remained poised on the starting block. A tall man with wide shoulders entered the water nearly perfectly. He was this year’s star swimmer. He didn’t necessarily win every world event with a gold medal, but he made the podium and the media was desperate for a new face after Phelps hung up his speedo.
Mr. Golden Boy, that’s what Elsa called him in her head. She knew only knew people by their swimming events and times and only if they competed against her. She didn’t know their hobbies, their relationships, their families. A lot of them hung out outside of practice. But she didn’t understand how they had the time. So she just referred to them by nicknames she made up in her head. It was easier, hands-off.
“Take your mark” Elsa’s coach shouted, and she gripped the edge of the block and tensed her muscles. A short burst of a whistle and Elsa was launching forward like a spring.
The water was cold and clear, a mild taste of chlorine crept past her tightly pressed lips but she kept her head tucked between her arms and kicked with both feet. Surfacing in one fluid motion, she broke into her stroke. It was a good dive but it could be better. She swam to the opposite end of the pool and hopped out with ease.
“I want to run the start again,” Elsa said to her coach.
“And I want you to practice your turns, so we’ll do one more dive. Then I don’t want to see you out of this damn pool until our time here is done.” His mouth was covered with a mask but his furrowed brow and bulging neck vein were all too visible.
Elsa took the disposable mask from the volunteer nearby and walked back to the opposite end of the large pool.
“…I reckon I’ll wear the mirrored ones, they’ll look way cooler.” somehow, through all the commotion and noises in the aquatic center, a single voice, with a thick Australian accent broke through.
Elsa looked and saw her rival, Anna Harding standing in the hallway behind the empty stands. She didn’t notice Elsa as she was talking with someone, gesturing wildly with her hands. She was a good distance away and Elsa couldn’t hear what she was saying. How that once sentence broke through, she’ll never know, but it annoyed her.
“Anderson! How hyped are you to be here?” Mr. Golden Boy shouted, he jogged up to walk next to her and waited for a beat for her to answer, never once dropping his wide all-too-white smile. “It’s the Olympics! Show, like, a smidge of emotion.”
“I’ve been here before, I’ll be here again,” Elsa responded, further annoyed now. The two of them had done several interviews together and now the man thought they were friends.
“I like that attitude but dude, live in the moment a bit alright?” He started to lean to nudge her arm but pulled back. Instead, he gave a quick nod and jogged away.
Elsa took her mask off and dropped it in the bin before climbing back on the block and starting the process all again.
No distractions.
~~~
“And it looks like… YES it’s Anderson with the Women’s 400m gold medal! Followed close behind by Australia’s Harding with the bronze going to…”
Elsa stopped listening to the announcers, their voices faded into a sea of various voices in just as many languages. She raised her arm and waved to the cameras. A smile never once crossing her face. A movement to her left caught her attention and she saw the Australian swimmer reaching across the lane rope to shake her hand. Elsa took it and heard the announcers erupt with approval.
“Good on ya mate, I’ll get you in the next one,” Anna said through short breaths.
“I’d like to see you try,” Elsa mumbled as she made her way to the designated exit area on the side. Once out of the pool she was directed to the media ally for various interviews without being given a moment to catch her breath.
A quick glance over and she saw Anna staying with the bronze place winner, talking to a camera.
“Solo or group?” someone was asking her, gesturing towards the camera.
“Solo.”
~~~
The time between races was long, filled with eating, sleeping, or practicing. Which was normal. The painful part, the one Elsa hated was the time between suiting up and lining up to race. Because of the virus, everything was spaced apart, even the swimmers’ individual entrances took a long time.
Most of the women chatted amongst their teammates or spoke to international friends to pass the time. And a few others, like her, remained seated, hood pulled up and headphones on to block the noise and distraction.
“What’s in your ears?”
Elsa looked up and saw Anna staring at her, she had pulled a chair over and was sitting backward in it. Her chin resting on the chair’s back. Between her mask and swim cap, only her eyes were visible. They seemed to pierce right through Elsa and she didn’t like how that made her feel.
“Oy, blondie, did ya hear me?” Anna asked again tilting her head slightly.
Elsa let out a heavy sigh and took one earbud out. “Can I help you?”
Anna leaned back and held both hands up. “Whoa mate, I’m just tryin for some small talk. You can put down the eye daggers.”
“I’m trying to focus for the race.”
“Ah, I’ll leave you be then. Don’t want to be beating you when you’re distracted.” She stood up and spun her chair around before sitting back down, her back now to Elsa.
 “You and your stupid yellow cap aren’t going to beat me,” Elsa mumbled under her breath as she put her earbud back in.
~~~
“Australia takes the gold! A disappointing loss for Team USA’s Anderson”
Elsa huffed, stared at the scoreboard, refusing to believe the time she was seeing. Anna had beat her and set a new World Record. This was impossible, Anna had never beaten her before.
“Did say I’d get ya in the next one,” Anna said, beaming for the cameras and reaching her hand across to shake. Elsa took it begrudgingly.
Elsa exited the pool and auto-piloted to the media ally. She was stopped by the first news crews, stuffed into a tiny square, they all were wearing masks and face shields. Their eyes seemed to bore into Elsa as a microphone on a pole was shoved towards her face.
“How does it feel to break a world record and clinch the Gold Medal?” The reporter asked.
“It feels amazing! It was such a good race.” Anna said. Elsa somehow didn’t notice her presence before now. “I’ve been working on this for such a long time and to do it here on the Olympic stage is just incredible”
“And Elsa, how does it feel to just narrowly miss the gold and have your long-standing record shattered?”
Elsa shifted into her public face, swallowing down the astounding amount of cuss words that threatened to escape. “I’m thankful to be here to witness history. Harding is a great swimmer, I’m honored to be able to compete against her.”
“The two are set to face off more times over the next few days, I know the folks at home are excited to see the battle for gold.”
The next half an hour went on like this, short interviews with various media outlets from all over the world. Anna’s home country of course got a longer time slot. The entire time Anna walked with Elsa, seemingly refusing to do any interviews solo. It irritated Elsa as she was not able to dip into the locker room and had to do a painfully slow walk of shame through the cameras.
~~~
Elsa slammed into the wall, hard, a wave of water followed after her, splashing, turbulent, and violent. It matched how she felt as she glanced up at the scoreboard and saw her name in first and Anna’s in second. She nearly smiled. But it wasn’t worth smiling when she failed to beat the world record.
And there Anna was once again, reaching across the lane rope to shake her hand. And there too was Anna walking with her down the media ally. Ignoring Elsa’s request to go solo. And the media ate it up, two rivals trading golds and silvers back and forth. It was the perfect sports story.
The next two races ended with Elsa receiving a silver medal. She would be lying if she said she was mad at Anna for beating her both times. The other girl was nothing but kind and supportive. Always taking the time to shake the other swimmer’s hands or hug her teammates when they did well.
It seemed Anna, like Elsa, was her country’s star female swimmer. Just like Elsa, she too couldn’t swim a heat, not even a medal race, without the media stopping her for interviews. These interviews often involved Elsa joining, Anna’s presence next to her was very calming. Anna was a natural at handling the questions, laughing when she needed to, never talking bad about the officials or other swimmers. The more the two of them did interviews together, the more Elsa was able to better play off of Anna. She became more engaged, more relaxed.
The second the pair went their separate ways in the locker room, was the moment all the anger and resentment came bubbling back up in Elsa. She was mad at herself, she was starting to become distracted. She often found herself looking for Anna in the ready room before a race. And she hated how once she found her and Anna gave her a smile and maybe a little wave, she would have a strange feeling wash over her.
Elsa never had time for friends or love, if that’s what this feeling was. She ripped her cap off, pulling a few strands of hair with it, and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water wash off the chlorine and the complex feelings.
~~~
The aquatics center was darker now. It was later in the evening, the media and few spectators had all gone home. Only the lights on the pool and the emergency lights in the stands were on. It gave the place an almost eerie feeling. There were a few other swimmers here, each with their own lane. She was assigned to lane 1, she despised the wall but with the virus raging she had no grounds to argue. There was a small bin with her name and country flag on it. She managed to get two hours, probably due to the late hour.
Elsa stepping up onto the block and dove in. She came out of the water as if sprinting but quickly slowed her pace. She needed to work her muscles, not strain them.
She fell into a practice rhythm, stroke, stroke, stroke… breathe, stroke. Her legs ever so slightly kicking, she wasn’t worried about her legs, she could turn them on and power forward when needed. It was her arms she was worried about, she made stroke adjustments, high elbow, cupped hands, trying to see what felt right.
As desperately as she tried to focus on the push and pull of the water, her mind wandered away. Maybe she should have tried to befriend some of her teammates. A flip turn. Anna seemed to be having so much fun. Stroke, stroke, breathe. But fun was distracting, and she needed to focus. Stroke, stroke, breathe. No distractions. Another flip turn. Why did her mind keep going to Anna? Stroke, stroke, breathe.
Elsa slowed her pace as she came back to the wall in the deep end of the pool. She had long since lost track of her laps. She left her body slow to a stop and reached up to hold onto the wall.
She exhaled and glanced up at the scoreboard where the clock was. Only 20 minutes had passed. It felt like 2 hours, she was defiantly distracted and it was affecting everything. Her strokes felt off, her mind was clouded. She pushed off the wall and dipped below the surface, letting her body drift down till her feet made contact with the bottom of the pool and her ears popped from the pressure. It was quiet down here. She could look over and see the bodies of other swimmers going back and forth in the other lanes. And all around the bottom of the pool were underwater wires and cameras. They sat dormant now, powered down until the next race.
Elsa kicked off the bottom, surfacing to splashes and kicks and soft voices that carried through the cavernous aquatic center.
“Oh hey, fancy seeing you here.”
Elsa looked up and saw Anna sitting cross-legged on the pool deck of the lane next to hers. She was in a loose-fitting swimsuit, like the type of one-piece suit someone might wear to the beach. Her caps were missing, instead, her long red hair hung freely around her shoulders, she was spinning her goggles around one finger.
“Can I help you?” Elsa responded, already annoyed that the person who was beginning to occupy so much brain space was now a few feet from her.
“Actually, I reckon I can help you,” Anna replied, the ghost of a smirk on her face.
“And how do you propose you can help me?”
“Ah,” Anna put her goggles on, “because I’ve beaten you in the last two races? And we’ve been neck and neck in the others.” In one fluid motion, she slipped into the pool.
Elsa felt like she was seeing red, and it wasn’t just the flowing red locks of the person in the lane next to her.
Anna surfaced laughing, which only further annoyed Elsa. To be so arrogant and to rub it in her face too was taking it too far. “Sorry, I’m just joshing ya. No hard feelings mate.”
There was a pause, a shaky exhale, and Anna added, more softly, “You know I really admire you.”
Now Elsa felt like someone punched her and she was stunned into silence. What was this girl’s deal? Was this some new form of emotional warfare?
“We’ve been swimming against each other for a long time. And maybe it’s the pressure of your third Olympics, maybe it’s all the bull shit from the virus but you’re not you lately.” Anna continued.
Who was Anna to know who Elsa was or wasn’t? Elsa let herself sink slightly so her mouth was just under the surface but she could still breathe through her nose as she tread water. A smarter person would have probably just ignored Anna and continued swimming. But Elsa found herself anchored in place.
“I’m sure you’re questioning why I, of all people, am floating here telling you this. But to me, our rivalry only exists for those seconds when we’re in the water. Outside of that, I think you’re a great swimmer and a good role model. I would like to be your f-friend.”  Anna turned away from her for a second, seemingly distracted by whatever the swimmer in lane five was doing.
“Friend?” Elsa repeated slowly as if trying the word out for the first time.
Anna turned back to her, her head tilted slightly to the side. “Yes, a friend, a mate, a buddy, a pal. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but you don’t seem to have many.”
“I uh…” Elsa started “I don’t have time for friends, I have to focus on swimming.”
Anna lifted a hand out of the water and pointed at Elsa, “Well, as your new friend, that’s the first thing we’re going to work on.”
Elsa really should have restarted her laps and ignored Anna. And she really, really should ignore this excitement that was bubbling in her chest. She couldn’t remember the last time she had a friend, and not someone who she was doing a press tour with or someone who wanted something from her. Then again, maybe Anna wanted something from her too.
But if Elsa was truly, deeply honest with herself, whatever Anna wanted in that moment, she wanted to give it to her. Anna had a pull, a gravity about her and Elsa was trapped in her orbit.
“Alright let me lay it out for you. You do have time for friends because they’re good, help lift you up and motivate you. You, my friend, have completely forgotten why you started swimming in the first place.”
“What? No, I haven’t, I’m still winning.”
“Yea nah, see the fact that you responded that way shows I’m right.”
Elsa frowned but remained where she was.
“So tell me, Elsa, back when you were a kiddo, why did you start swimming?” Anna lifted her goggles up and two ocean blue eyes seemed to penetrate right through Elsa’s shell.
Behind her own mirrored goggles, Elsa closed her own eyes. Shutting the world and Anna out for a moment. Why did she start swimming? It felt like eight lifetimes ago. She really had to dig deep, fuzzy memories of kids playing in the pool. Games of Marco Polo and mermaids. Joining the summer team, playing cards between races. Laughing. She had fun. Before she was scooped up into the USA Swimming training program.
She remembered now, how quickly everything changed. No more summer league, training every day for hours. Before she used to smell of bubble-gum then she shifted and everything was chlorine. Her friends moved on without her.  The clashing of worlds when they could no longer relate to each other. The girls got into makeup and she got into tight-fitting racing suits. The boys started playing Halo and she sat to be measured for custom goggles. After a while, all she had was the pool and her coaches.
Elsa was 15 when made her Olympic debut and now, here in Tokyo, it was her third. In those nearly 10 years she had completely given herself to her sports. It wasn’t that friends were a distraction, it was that she didn’t want to get hurt again.
“Elsa?” Anna asked, breaking the other woman from her thoughts.
Elsa opened her eyes and looked at the Australian. In her loose-fitting casual suit and free-flowing hair, Anna appeared to never forget the fun of swimming. And look where that got her? She was neck and neck, or even besting Elsa. Anna knew everyone on her team and several others from around the world. She greeted everyone like lifelong friends and no one could deny her contagious charisma on camera.
“I started swimming because it was fun and I could hang out with my friends.” Elsa finally admitted out loud.
“I thought you didn’t have time for friends?” Anna replied, that ghost of a smirk reappearing.
“I did back then.”
“And what happened?”
“I went one way and they went another. Our paths never crossed again”
Anna floated forward and hung both arms over the lane rope. “That was back when you were a kid, people grow up and grow apart. That’s as normal as a flower blooming.”
Elsa didn’t respond, she didn’t see the comparison to flowers, not every bud bloomed.
“Just because your old mates ditched you doesn’t mean you can’t make new ones. Especially here with like-minded folks. Now I reckon you haven’t had any fun in a while yeah?”
What are you trying to say"
“I watched you practice for a bit before you noticed me, you’re all in your head and that’s doing no one any good.”
“How did you know it was me?”
“So many questions, you Americans ask so many questions, just live a little.” Anna laughed, “Your name is on the box mate.” She gestured to the box behind the starting block that currently held Elsa’s dry clothes.
“So now you’re stalking me, how did you even get a lane next to me anyway?”
“Again with the questions, I didn’t purposely try, I suppose it’s the universe just pulling us together.” She winked and pulled her goggles back down. Elsa dipped back down into the water just below her eyes to hide the heat rising in her cheeks. “Now a question for you mate, when’s the last time you pretended to be a mermaid?”
The rest of the allotted practice time consisted of the two of them swimming back and forth in their lanes, dolphin kicking, spinning, and splashing each other. Elsa wasn’t sure when or how exactly it happened. One minute they were just swimming and the next they were doing spins and twists and diving down. Anna made some great faces underwater and for once in a long time, Elsa was having fun. She even smiled which only seemed to fuel Anna into further antics.
Elsa left the locker room later feeling lighter and more focused than she had been in years.
~~~
Despite the Olympic events being closed to the public, there was still a sizable audience piled into the aquatics center. Swimmers and other athletes were clustered in the stands by their country. There wasn’t to be any audience at all, but the officials decided some bodies in the stands brought more life to events.
Elsa spotted the US cluster, they were hard to miss in their snow-white outfits and obnoxious red, white, and blue bucket hats. Elsa had yet to put hers on. It was a very ugly hat, but if the team was wearing them maybe she could suck it up for a little bit. Elsa took a deep breath and started up the stairs of the bleachers. She was spotted almost instantly.
“Anderson! Sit with us!” One of her teammates called. Elsa nodded, thankful her mask prevented her from having to fake a smile.
“I’m surprised you’re here but man it’s good to have you.” The girl, whose name was Jan? Jenny maybe? Swam Butterfly, she was the same age as Elsa but this was her first Olympics.
At least Elsa was pretty sure of that. After her practice with Anna last night she had gone back to her room, deciding that she would make an effort to be more present. She stayed up later than she should have, reading through the USA Swimming’s Tokyo roster, putting faces to names and names to events.
Elsa sat down between Jannet, she was sure now, and a backstroker named Sam. They both beamed at her, Sam pulled out his phone to get a photo of the three of them.
“No, no photos,” Elsa started to say but caught herself, “…without our hats!” She said, forcing as much positivity through her words as possible. This earned her a few cheers from the people around them and she mashed the ugly hat on her head as the photo grew to more people.
“I can’t believe we got a photo with Anderson.”
“Dude I know, she’s always training.”
“Bruh this is unreal, tag me in that shit.”
“My mom’s gonna be so excited!”
Various voices from all around her, excited and happy tones. She had been so worried they would be cold towards her, or there would be whispers about why she was here. Instead, her teammates seemed almost welcoming, be it a bit starstruck.
“Are you excited for your race this afternoon?” Elsa asked Sam who seems to nearly implode.
“You know when I swim? Dude this is awesome!”
The hype of Elsa being there finally calmed down and she was able to actually talk with people.. Elsa had the day off from racing today. It was interesting, being a casual spectator instead of studying the strokes. She hadn’t really watched a men’s race in so long, she had forgotten how animated they got when they won. Slapping the water, sitting on the lane ropes, their arms lifted high into the sky as cameras flashed.
During a lull Elsa stood to locate some kind of drink, talking so much was exhausting. She walked into the wide hallway behind the bleachers and saw long red hair clashing with a bright yellow jacket that read AUSTRALIA down the arm in a green font that perfectly matched the pants.
Anna turned as Elsa neared as if pulled by some invisible force. She smiled behind her mask before speaking, Elsa could tell from the creases in the corner of her eyes “You’re here? And not cranking away at the gym? I must be dreaming.”
“I’m here, I was even sitting with my team.”
“They let you sit with them while wearing that hat?” she teased.
“We all have this thing,” Elsa replied, tapping the hat with one finger.
“And you lot say our outfits hurt the eyes.” She reached forward as if to touch Elsa but pulled her hand back after a sideways glance at a nearby volunteer. “I’m really glad you came, I hope you have a good time. I’m coming for you soon though, be ready.”
“I’m always ready,” Elsa responded, the absence of a touch that never was hung heavy in the air and she wished Anna had broken protocol.
“Oh, I know.” Anna winked again and walked off in the opposite direction. Elsa fought the urge to follow her. Team Australia was on the opposite side of the pool and Elsa had no valid reason to go that way and was thus barred from going any further.
Elsa bruised herself by looking at a random floor tile, she didn’t want to get caught staring at someone. So occupied she was that she didn’t see Anna turn back to look at her before rounding the corner.
~~~
Today was the day. The last race of her Olympics, till the next one that is.
Elsa dove into the pool, this was her warm-up period. She was there with a handful of other swimmers, swimming lengths across the wide part of the diving pool while other races took place in the main pool.
Stroke, breathe. Stroke, breathe.
She went at a steady pace and focused on her reach, turning her shoulders and pulling the water back. Today felt better, her strokes felt more fluid, and her mind wasn’t clouded. She let it freely drift from one subject to the next, without dwelling on the angle of her elbows, or how much her hand was scooped. Anna kept drifting to the forefront of her mind and Elsa allowed herself to swim through those thoughts. She decided when she won today, she would do all her interviews with Anna. She was done with doing the media ally solo.
In the blink of an eye, she was sitting in a chair in the ready room. Both caps on, goggles on, only one earbud in. She nodded and waved to anyone she made eye contact with but she didn’t talk to them. She wasn’t going to change completely overnight and she still had to focus.
There was a sudden shift in the energy of the room and Elsa turned her head to see that yellow cap enter the room. Anna sat down in front of Elsa again and turned in her chair.
“So what’s in your ears today eh?”
“Just some bass-heavy EMD music,” Elsa replied.
“Oh didn’t take you for a clubber.”
“I’m not, fast beats just help me focus.”
“Ah, you’re gonna need that today my friend,” Anna once again winked and Elsa was starting to think maybe she wasn’t imagining things. That or Anna had a facial tick and Elsa was completely caught up in a fantasy.
~~
They walked out to the swim floor one by one as they were announced by lane number for the women’s 800-meter freestyle race. Anna was in lane 5 today, Elsa in lane 4. All that stood between her and the podium was 16 lengths of the pool. Elsa stepped up onto the started block and waited.
“Take your mark.” came the far too robotic sounding announcer, followed by a sharp single beep.
Her muscles reacted on instinct and she dove into the water. Kicking, surfacing, and falling into her rhythm. She breathed every few strokes, pacing herself for the final sprint that was still many lengths off. The woman from Japan matched her pace over in lane 3 and Elsa regretted not knowing her name.
A flip turn and now with every breath she could see Anna, her yellow cap a bright beacon above the blue lane rope. She was also matching pace with Elsa, their strokes synchronized, Anna breathed on the left, and every few strokes they looked at each other. It was electrifying.
Another flip turn and Elsa could only see the edge of the Japanese women’s fingers, she was already falling back. But there were many lengths to go for Elsa to maintain the lead.
As she came into the wall an official dipped a number into the pool, letting her know how many lengths she had left. Another flip turn and there was Anna again.
Finally, after many lengths, Elsa and Anna headed towards the wall. Bells rang indicating this was the final lap. They would be coming out of this flip turn in a sprint.
Elsa resurfaced after the turn and began kicking. Harder. She could no longer see the Japanese woman but she had no time to focus on that fact. All that mattered was to get to the wall, turn one last time and slam into home. She could already taste the gold. She could hear the National anthem in all its obnoxiousness.
She turned and exploded off the wall, pulling from every reserve. She wasn’t breathing as often, trying to stay as streamlined as possible. Anna, she could see, was doing the same. They were no longer in sync, swapping the lead back and forth.
They passed the halfway point and Elsa pulled whatever energy she had left. Desperately pulling and kicking at the water. She saw the yellow cap fade in and out of her line of sight. The lane rope shifted to a solid color, the wall was near. This was do or die.
Elsa slammed into the wall at full speed and a wave of water splashed up onto the deck in response. She looked not to the scoreboard but over to Anna. Who, despite being out of breath, smiled at her.
The other swimmers came into the wall around them and Elsa glanced now at the board. She couldn’t believe what she saw
(AUS) Harding A.- 8:12:57
(USA) Anderson E. - 8:13:83
She had lost by the narrowest of margins. Instead of being mad, she turned back to Anna who was already climbing over the lane rope. She hugged Elsa with one arm and pumped the air with the other. Beaming for the cameras.
“Told you I’d get ya,” Anna said in a voice loud enough only for Elsa to hear.
And Elsa didn’t reply. She just smiled, genuinely for the first time in a long time. She gave Anna a hug in return and regrettably let her go to turn to the Japanese women. Giving her a handshake and congratulating her on her race.
When Elsa turned back, Anna was surrounded by other swimmers and the officials were trying to subtly clear the pool without ruining the photos for the press.
Elsa couldn’t remember another time she felt so happy to come in second.
~~~
The Australian anthem  has just finished playing. Anna reached out a hand to first Elsa and then the bronze medalist. Elsa pretended not to notice how Anna’s hand lingered just a few seconds too long in hers.
They posed for pictures together for what seemed like hours before the volunteers were ushering them towards the media. Anna placed a hand on Elsa’s back, ever so slightly, like a question that Elsa could choose to lean into or walk away. She picked the former and Anna’s step seemed to spring a bit as they walked towards their first interview. The woman with bronze had vanished and at the moment Elsa didn’t care, but for an entirely different reason than she usually did.
Finally, the pair entered the locker room, it was surprisingly empty, their medal ceremony was the last of the day, and there weren’t any more races, practice times would start within the hour but for right now, it was quiet.
Anna was first to speak, she removed her mask and smiled at Elsa and Elsa felt her face heat up. She copied Anna, removing the massive mask that obscured most of her face and returned the smile.
“Here, you deserve these,” Anna said, handing Elsa her gold medal bouquet.
“Are those for me?” Elsa said, of course, she had her own bouquet but the gesture and genuine tenderness of Anna made everything more special.
“No they’re for the empty chair behind you, of course, they’re for you.” She paused then added, “Sorry, they’re not orchids or crocuses or roses.”
“I’ve only heard of roses. I know nothing about flowers.”
“Oh well, in that case, enjoy these sunflowers, they bring out the blue in your eyes.”
“Anna?” Elsa asked, nearly whispering the name, she wasn’t brave enough to look into the other woman’s eyes so she stared down at the flowers, they were yellow like all of Anna’s team gear. Elsa decided she liked yellow, and she liked yellow a lot.
“Will you, join me in the dining hall? I want to take you to dinner.”
“Wow in the IOC-provided cafeteria where everything is free? You shouldn’t have.” Anna teased but her tone lacked any malice. She stepped closer to Elsa, closing the gap but still giving her space.
Elsa smirked and found her confidence, “Oh hush, you know that’s our only option.”
“I know, I’m just teasing you.”
A door opened at the other end of the locker room. “Ms. Harding, you’re wanted for an interview please.”
Anna sighed and shook her head, “the burdens of winning I suppose.” She seemed to hesitate for a moment and then leaned in and kissed Elsa on the cheek. She stepped back to allow a shocked Elsa to catch her breath.
“I’ll see you tonight,” Anna said and winked before walking away and through the locker room door to flashing cameras.
Elsa lifted a hand to her face where Anna touched her, closed her eyes, and smiled.

Debate-Seokjin
Tumblr media
The air was crisp, the leaves crunching underneath your feet as you made your way to class. Your bag was heavy on your shoulder, your feet cold as you decided against wearing boots. Entering the building through the nearest door, you quickly found the classroom, finding a wall to lean against while you texted Jin. The boy would be late. He always was. While you got up early to make sure you could find a seat, Jin would always slip in at the last minute counting on there being an empty seat beside you. And there always was.
Today was unusual though. As a class left the lecture theatre, your class slowly making their way in, you heard someone shout your name. Turning in the direction of the voice, you found Jin running in your direction, two cups of coffee in his hands. With a grin, he stopped just in front of you, passing you a cup.
   “Thought you’d be late.” He hummed, taking a sip of his coffee before talking.
   “Line was shorter than usual.” You yawned, letting him enter first before quickly finding your place beside him again.
   “Must be field trip time.” The first-year students always had a ‘great adventure’ their first year, under the pretense of education, the students often found their way to make it just another way to get drunk.
The lecturer entered, her own coffee in hand, and a pile of files tucked under her arms.
   “Morning class. As talked about previously last week, I’ll be splitting you into pairs, one of you will be for, and one will argue against.” You gave a small sigh, resting your head on your hand as Jin groaned. It was your debate class, the one subject you hated due to the amount of public speaking. Jin, however, loved it, he threw himself into any role he was given, no matter what side he actually agreed with. This time, the topic was relevant, with the end of year ball only a month away. The question was ‘Are Social Balls really worth it, or do the movies romanticize it?’ This was one you didn’t mind arguing about. Your high school prom wasn’t one you were particularly fond of. Your best friend had had a massive crush on one of the more popular boys. She was full of glee as he asked her, making a big deal in the cafeteria, his smile seeming genuine. You were happy for her, excited for the dance. That was until she called you on the night, saying he had stood her up. Instantly, you had left the dance, catching a taxi to her house. You spent the rest of the night with your heartbroken friend, watching ‘The Notebook.’
You watched as the lecturer brought up the group list on the board, a collection of reactions emitting from the class. Squinting your eyes, you tried to peer at the small names, trying to find yours. Yours sat under Against, whiles Jin’s was under For. You gave a laugh as Jin held out his hand to you, a teasing smile on his lips.
   “Good luck, and may the best man win.” You grinned, rolling your eyes playfully.
   “Oh, she will.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Books covered the single long desk you occupied, your laptop balancing on the edge, plugged into the wall. You had a notebook in front of you, your messy handwriting scrawled over the two pages. While you had your own opinion on the topic, you were currently researching for any figures to add to your argument.
   “You know that’s pointless, right?” Jin chuckled, placing another takeaway cup full of coffee beside you. Sticking out your tongue slightly, you quickly turned back to face your laptop after thanking him.
   “Let me guess, you’ve already gathered all your material.”
   “Yep.”
   “And what lecture did you miss?”
   “Gender studies,” Jin muttered, shoving you slightly as you laughed, shaking your head. At Jin’s loud noise of protest, you could see a couple other students lift their head, their eyes narrowed, the librarian shushing you.
~~~~~~~~~~~
You had met Jin in your first year of university. You weren’t sure how you didn’t notice him straight away, but the truth was, you were too busy trying to grab the back corner seat to really notice anyone. It wasn’t until the seat next to you was the only one left that you met Jin, watching as he stumbled into the lecture, nodding his head in apology to the lecturer who had briefly stopped talking.
   “I don’t think she likes you.” You whispered to him, not knowing where the sudden burst of confidence came from. Jin gave a sheepish smile, shrugging his shoulders.
   “I think it’s because she’s never seen me arrive on time.” From that moment, you found yourself coming out of the corner seat, always leaving a space for the boy who would arrive late, no matter what time the lecture was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A steaming bowl of ramen sat in front of you, your chopsticks already resting against the side of the bowl as you took a break. Your tongue burning, you tried to cool it with your coke. Jin only laughed at your wide eyes, slight panic in them. Subtly, you raised a middle finger, a smile gracing your lips as you received one back.
   “So how is this semester going for you anyway?” You asked, you only saw him for one class that happened twice a week. You tried to meet up every couple of days for lunch, but sometimes both of your schedules didn’t allow it. This was one of the rare times they did.
   “It’s okay, Namjoon’s doing a project with me, so he’s starting that while I focus on winning this debate.”
   “You mean, loosing.” An unknown emotion flashed in Jin’s eyes as he grinned at you, his head shaking slightly.
   “Sure, when I lose.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your hands were shaking as you held your cue cards. The small rectangles of pink card held all your arguments, all the facts that would hopefully stop you from becoming too emotional. Jin stood behind the other wooden podium on the right side of the front of the room.
   “Whenever you’re ready guys.” The lecturer announced, quietening down the rest of the students. With a broken breath, you started, your voice shaking slightly.
   “The media sets up unrealistic expectations for any social event, especially things like dances. Prom is a good example of this, many high school students can’t wait until their last year, to dress up and slow dance with their crush. However, their dreams are crushed when they realize this isn’t reality. The university just now is doing the same thing. With all of the hype around dresses and drinks, and who’s going with who. People tend to forget what it’s really going to be like. No one finds love at the ball, no one socializes outside of their already established social groups. It’s only an excuse for students to get drunk after a year of stress.” You weren’t quite sure what the emotion on Jin’s face was. His eyebrows were furrowed, though he wore a small, sad smile.
   “I actually disagree with everything Y/N has said. It is no secret that movies exaggerate everything to do with high school. If you truly believed that what you saw in the latest chick flick was real, you’d have to believe those 26-year-olds were teenagers.” You could hear a couple of chuckles, mainly from the lecturer as she scribbled something down. “Social balls give you the chance to have the courage to ask someone out. When you ask someone out in everyday life, there’s a pressure to plan the date, to talk to them, to know how to keep the conversation. With a social ball, all of that goes away, you can dance, you can test the chemistry without any pressure.” Jin took a deep breath, his hands shaking as his voice got quieter. “I, for example, met my first love at university. I’ve been in love for her for two years, ever since I sat next to her for the first time at the back of a lecture hall. I would love to gather the courage to ask her. And it’s those moments that the society ball provides. Those small moments of hope that we students need in a time of exam prep and assignments.” Your eyes were wide, your mouth slightly open as you noticed Jin’s cheeks and ears were now flushed red. How did you not know any of that about him? Who was this mysterious girl he was so caught up on? Thinking about it made your heart ache.
After a couple questions, you and Jin sat down back at your seats. For the rest of the lecture, Jin avoided you, his cheeks still burning.
   “Jin!” You shouted after him as he ran out of the classroom, his backpack barely on his shoulder. “Jin wait! Please!” At the desperation in your voice, he stopped, slowly turning.
   “Is what you said about your first love true?”
   “It is.” He muttered, his eyes on the floor as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
   “So why don’t you ask her to the ball?”
   “She doesn’t like them.” At that small confession, your heart seemed to stop. Your sudden silence made Jin look up, his bottom lip in between his teeth.
   “Y/N, I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have said anything. But it’s just... I was planning on asking you, but then hearing your stance on the dance. I don’t know, maybe I could change your mind. I’m sorry if you don’t feel the same way. I’m sorry if I ruined this friendship. I’m so...” Jin was cut off by your lips softly pressed against his. Drawing back, you gave a shy smile, your own cheeks covered in red.
   “I like you too.” You hesitated, your heart beating fast. “I wouldn’t mind the ball if it was with you.”

be more chill, august 4, 2019
Cast: Troy Iwata as Rich, OBC otherwise
More Than Survive
“girls! …boys!” is still in the show! Jeremy Heere: Not Cishet
there’s a drawing of a tesseract on the blackboard in the classroom. what are they teaching these kids?
there are posters advertising several school clubs, including chess club and Spanish club. (those were the only ones I could make out.)
Jeremy doesn’t even look at Christine when she’s telling him there’s something written on his backpack.
for most of Michael’s solo, Jeremy just looks frustrated with Michael for not listening to him, rather than relieved to see him.
as Michael and Jeremy are harmonizing on “Christiiiine,” Christine (having already signed up for the play) runs around them in circles. Naruto running, to be specific.
I Love Play Rehearsal
Michael physically shoves Jeremy into rehearsal as he’s verbally hyping himself up to go in.
when Jeremy asks if this is where to meet for the play, Christine looks around in disbelief and gestures to the podium when telling him it’s actually where to meet for the swim team, and Jeremy goes “what??” and spins around looking equally disbelieving.
after telling Jeremy that play rehearsal is “fun,” Christine shuts herself up — and then very gradually turns around to look back at Jeremy, and sees he’s still listening attentively, which gives her the courage to say more.
the few times Jeremy speaks in this scene, his speech is even more stilted than in the first scene, and he practically doubles over from nerves at some points — most notably when Christine comes VERY close to kissing him and then pulls away to Scream.
Jeremy anticipates Christine saying that play rehearsal is starting “now,” and starts to form the word “now” just as she says “soon” instead.
Jeremy gets shoved off his chair by Rich and ends up on the floor, as do most of the characters.
Jeremy’s expressions throughout Jake and Christine’s conversation epitomize “looking into the camera like you’re on The Office,” especially after Jake describes Juliet as “that girl who died.” when Jake is telling Christine about the pressure he always feels, he not-so-subtly flexes his arm muscles, and Jeremy looks at his own arm with disappointment.
Christine leans on the podium in an obvious attempt to look Cool And Casual while Jake is talking to her, though she’s clearly nervous, and surprised when Jake tells her he’s doing the play for her.
the other ninety percent of this post is under the cut (with pictures!)
The Squip Song
I’ve seen Gerard’s Rich described as trying to fight/resist his SQUIP throughout this song and clearly not wanting to tell Jeremy what he’s telling him. Troy’s Rich isn’t anything like that — other than smacking himself to snap out of lisping, he doesn’t seem to be having an issue with his SQUIP at all.
Jeremy, on the other hand, spends the whole song flinching away from Rich — on Rich’s string of “then then then then then…” Jeremy is continually backing away from him, until he’s backed all the way into the proscenium and Rich is RIGHT in front of him.
on the “blip” of “on the school social map you’re just a blip!” Rich boops Jeremy’s nose, which would be adorable if Jeremy weren’t terrified.
in his reprise of the song, Jeremy attempts the hand choreography that Rich was doing in telling him about the SQUIP, and fails miserably.
Two-Player Game
Michael is drinking the Crystal Pepsi that he’s comparing Jeremy to. that can’t be safe.
when Mr. Heere enters, Michael is curled up on the floor, so only his back and feet are visible to Mr. Heere — no wonder he didn’t recognize Michael.
Mr. Heere and Michael exchange Understanding looks behind Jeremy’s back after “that’s why most people aren’t your father.”
The Squip Enters
the Scary Stockboy communicates exclusively in grunts for several lines. think Tim Allen on Home Improvement.
Jake, Christine, and Jenna are looking on in confusion as Jeremy is first talking to his SQUIP, and he gestures to Christine that he’s okay.
Be More Chill, Pt. 1
Jeremy has fun following the SQUIP’s instructions at first — he goes over the top with arching his back, puffing out his chest, and walking with Swagger, looking cheerful all the while. he doesn’t look unhappy until the SQUIP tells him that “all your nerdiness is ugly,” which it does while physically moving his head/face around with its hands to look at him better. (it does that to him a couple other times too.)
after “everything about you makes me want to die,” Jeremy mutters “oh God, oh no” repeatedly, in addition to breathing hard and fast. in this song, and throughout the first act, he mouths “what?” and other phrases to himself in reaction to everything happening around him.
Troy plays a mall employee in the mall scenes, rather than whatever character Gerard plays.
the mall people get Right up in Jeremy’s face when telling him he sucks.
the girl’s shirt Jeremy picks out is the shirt Chloe’s holding in this picture, which is nothing like what I would have expected.
Tumblr media
Do You Wanna Ride?
Brooke’s attempts at seduction involve twirling around the straw from her can of La Croix (which sprays some in Chloe’s eye), crawling on the floor, and shoving the can into Jeremy’s chest. oh, Brooke.
Brooke also emphasizes the “ex” when telling Jeremy about her ex-boyfriend.
Be More Chill, Pt. 2
“I can… access the mall security cameras” is clearly a hasty lie from the SQUIP.
Jeremy falls asleep sideways on his bed once he gets home, and the SQUIP makes him tuck himself in — possibly the first instance of it controlling Jeremy’s body?
Sync Up
while opening his laptop, Jeremy makes beeping noises to the melody of More Than Survive, which is also playing in the background at that moment.
“I was just going to check my email” was delivered angrily rather than defensively.
Jeremy’s “ooooh” in response to his vision being fixed is also Tim Allen-esque.
as Jake passes by, the SQUIP tells Jeremy to “make a fist,” just in time for Jake to do an elaborate handshake/fist bump with Jeremy.
while the SQUIP is telling Jeremy about Chloe’s obsession with status, Chloe is leaning against the side of a bank of lockers, trying to collect herself and calm down.
Brooke reads the French phrase she’s using to try to impress Jeremy off of her hand.
during various instrumental breaks, Jeremy does the Squip Song hand choreography in sync with Rich and later the SQUIP, and cycles through greeting all the other students (bumping hips with and high fiving people, taking a selfie with Jenna, etc). it’s a great illustration of the “good hand-eye coordination” allegedly required for success in life and for how the SQUIP is helping Jeremy already, and also just really cool to watch. the lack of an applause break after the song was disappointing because I desperately wanted to clap for all that.
A Guy That I’d Kinda Be Into
Brooke is hovering over Chloe’s shoulder while Chloe is confronting Christine about Jake, even twirling her hair in time with Chloe doing the same.
the curtains part on the school’s stage to reveal Rich twerking. he immediately scurries off.
most of Jenna’s Midsummer lines are delivered in a normal voice, but “one thousand years ago this midsummer” is in the most over-the-top Shakespearean voice imaginable.
Jeremy starts coughing the moment the SQUIP stops delivering his monologue through him, and looks shocked that it happened at all.
Christine is carrying the box of prop hearts when complimenting Jeremy on how Into This he is. wonderful visual symbolism.
as previously mentioned, the extended bowling ball dialogue (all occurring while the SQUIP looks on in confusion and disgust):
Christine: …and at the end, I give birth to the bowling ball! Jeremy [clapping]: That sounds awesome! And very… theatrical! Christine: Well, thank you. If you don’t mind — [hands over the bowling ball] Jeremy: Oh, yeah — Christine: Just for a moment… [both cooing over the “baby”] Christine: Don’t cry, you’re just a BALL! [takes it from Jeremy’s arms and rolls it offstage; both laughing] Christine: Ten! Jeremy: Win!
the other students pass back and forth behind the partly open curtains with the prop hearts (which are hinged in the middle) before passing between Jeremy and Christine with them.
Christine gets very close to Jeremy’s face, as if to kiss him, again, before revealing that the guy that she’d kinda be into is Jake.
Upgrade
Brooke sits on the ground and clings to/wraps herself around Jeremy’s legs while telling him about Eminem’s death; she slides onto Jeremy’s lap from a higher row of the bleachers to kiss him, and when the scene cuts back to them he fully gets up and off the bleachers to ask why she likes him.
Britton Smith’s vibrato. end of note.
during the overlapping “I’m tired of being the person that everyone thinks that I am,” the teens repeatedly cross the stage, finally arranging themselves in a V behind Jeremy until he jumps back onto the bleachers, telling the SQUIP that “this is way too intense!”
Loser Geek Whatever
exact words from my notes: “Will Fucking Roland did THAT”
he spends the first verse and chorus sitting on the top row of the bleachers, only standing and walking down the bleachers in the second verse.
the act still ends with the SQUIP ominously reaching for Jeremy just as the lights go down.
Halloween
Jenna arrives wearing a mask as part of her clown costume — not quite like the clown from IT, but in that same vein of creepiness.
some new dialogue between Brooke and Jeremy after he compliments her costume:
Jeremy: I mean… it’s amazing. You’re amazing. Brooke: That’s what I like about Halloween. It’s the one night I get to be something I’m not. Jeremy: What’s wrong with the way you are? Brooke: You’re sweet, Jeremy. You need a drink.
Christine vanishes after Jake tells her that “the keg’s over there” and walks away.
Chloe is talking to Jeremy on the couch at one point before they both leave, presumably telling him about Brooke’s “surprise.”
Do You Wanna Hang?
the best way I can describe the choreography/staging of this song is that, like Brooke, Chloe has wildly inaccurate ideas about what “sexy,” is, and less like Brooke, she has wildly inaccurate ideas of what constitutes consent. (this post explains it well.)
the SQUIP makes Jeremy walk over to Chloe (in an extremely jerky/robotic fashion) while he’s expressing surprise that she’s jealous of Brooke. to which she responds “obviously, I am NOT” while obviously crying.
Brooke shows up after Chloe tells Jeremy that “I’m bored of you anyway,” and Jake soon follows, yelling that they’d better not be having sex on his parents’ bed because “I specifically told everyone that was off limits!”
after Jake chases Jeremy out, Brooke stays behind to ask Chloe “how could you?” Chloe’s response, delivered so drunkenly that is isn’t even an answer to the question: “I’m so wasted right now.”
Michael In The Bathroom
“what’s not on the Internet?” got a lot of laughter.
Michael and Jeremy’s argument isn’t about luck, but about who’s looking out for Jeremy:
Michael: Think, man! We’re talking an insanely powerful supercomputer! And you’re using it to, what, get laid? Did it ever occur to you that there could be consequences? That you’re messing with something you don’t understand? Jeremy: You’re the one who said technology isn’t dangerous. Michael: Yeah, unless you use it like you. Jeremy: And I thought Chloe was jealous. Michael: I’m trying to look out for you. Jeremy: Oh, really? Because I think you’re pissed that I have one and you don’t.  Michael: Oh, come on, man. Jeremy: I’m looking out for myself, for the first time in my life. With my history, I think I deserve that.
the jack-o’-lanterns hanging overhead flash in time with the “knock knock knock knock/clang clang clang clang/[etc.]” lines.
they really do take the bathtub away like in the rehearsal videos! bizarre choice if you ask me, but I’m not Stephen Brackett, so they didn’t ask me.
A Guy That I’d Kinda Be Into (Reprise)
Brooke enters in the background just as Jeremy is sitting on the couch with Christine, stops to look at him sadly, and then leaves without saying anything; he doesn’t notice her at all.
Christine now tells Jeremy that Jake is upstairs fighting with Chloe, rather than having makeup sex, and that she dumped him because “I know he seems like this confident guy on the outside, but… under that he had this whole other layer, he was sensitive and sweet. And then the third layer was like, this underlying total jerk layer.”
at this particular show, Jeremy and Christine’s mutual weird noises were just full-throated screaming.
Christine advises Gingivitis to “drink water!” as he stumbles offstage.
over the course of them making weird noises at each other, Jeremy ends up lying on the couch with his legs hanging over the armrest, a pose I’d seen before in at least one piece of fanart but hadn’t realized was actually in the show.
Christine no longer gives any explanation of why she can’t date Jeremy — she just apologizes and runs off. the SQUIP’s return moments later is met with a very morose “look who decided to show up.”
The Smartphone Hour (Rich Set A Fire)
Brooke has a pair of earbuds that she briefly poses with (holding them taut overhead) before tossing them away just like her banana.
The Pants Song
at the SQUIP’s advice, Jeremy “disengages” from the conversation with his dad about the party; Mr. Heere says not to “hide behind [his] phone,” but Jeremy doesn’t look up until his mom is mentioned.
Jeremy’s rant about how his dad can’t act like a father and just keeps waiting for his mom to come back ends with “No wonder she’s gone.”
upon seeing Mr. Heere, Michael hides whatever it is he’s using to smoke (I don’t think it’s a bong but I have no idea what it actually is) among a bunch of garden gnomes.
“do you love him?” is followed by a record scratch (or maybe shredding on a string instrument?) and the music completely stopping long enough for Michael to respond.
Michael straightens/tugs down his boxer briefs during the second chorus.
“somewhat reluctantly” is followed by a recorder trill that’s not in the album recording.
Mr. Heere opens up his robe on “real literal pants” and shows off his distinct lack of pants to the audience before Michael urges him to put all that away.
The Pitiful Children
when Jeremy arrives at school, Chloe and Jake are arguing about who’s worse off:
Jake: No, no, no. You were messing around with Jeremy in my parents’ room! Chloe: You dumped me for a theatre girl! Jake: Hey, come on, Chlo. I broke my legs! Chloe: You broke my heart. Jake: Well, my house burned down! Chloe [furiously]: You had it coming! Jenna: Oh my God, guys, did you see me on TV? Chloe, Jake, and Brooke: Not now, Jenna!
Brooke’s confrontation of Jeremy now mentions her ex:
Jeremy: Hey, it’s so crazy, right, with Rich and the fire — Brooke: You knew my last boyfriend cheated on me. And you did it anyway. Did you even like me? Or were you just using me to get to someone else? Jeremy: No —  Brooke: I am not a sexy dog you can kick, Jeremy. I am a person. [cue Chloe calling her like a dog]
Christine says “I guess I’ll just do theatre” with heavy irony — she realizes that doing theatre won’t fix anything that she’s upset about.
on the first chorus, all the teens (who had left the stage) walk back through again, as if to remind Jeremy of who exactly the pitiful children in question are.
Jeremy adds Mountain Dew to the beaker first, followed by a few SQUIPs, which frankly seems like the worst order to do that in.
Jeremy sounds more stilted again (more like in act 1) when offering Jenna the excuse about preparing Pansy Serum. he still asks Jenna “how are you feeling today?” but doesn’t immediately interrupt her to offer her a SQUIP:
Jenna: No one’s ever asked me that before. I know everything about everyone at this school, but no one ever wants to know me. SQUIP: You can help her. Offer her a drink. Jeremy: I can’t trick her into drinking a pill! SQUIP: She would do anything to feel like she belonged. Jenna: I would do anything to feel like I belong. Jeremy: Then would you maybe want to… drink this? Jenna: What’s in it? Jeremy: A supercomputer from Japan that’ll solve all your problems. Oh, and Mountain Dew. Jenna [cheerfully]: Okay!
the same blue screens/user agreement that appeared in the projections during The Squip Enters appear again behind Jenna, during her singing to the melody of The Smartphone Hour, suggesting that that’s the moment when her SQUIP fully activates.
by the end of the song, Jeremy has joined in on the choreography with the SQUIP ensemble. at times the SQUIP guides him through it by standing right behind him and placing its arms under his, a gesture that returns in The Play.
The Play
after Jeremy’s attempt to convince Christine to get a SQUIP totally fails, his SQUIP enters from above, being gradually lowered from the ceiling onto the stage.
Mr. Reyes gives Brooke the Pansy Serum onstage (as in, on the stage of A Midsummer Nightmare About Zombies) and she drinks it through a straw. (how did the SQUIP even get through it?)
the SQUIP explains its reasoning behind taking over more than just the student body:
SQUIP [over building music]: And why stop with the school? There’s an entire world of suffering people who need my help! It’s the glorious destiny for which I was programmed! And I never would have discovered it without… you.  [music cuts out] Jeremy: …Oh, shit.
Rich physically shows up and yells “I NEED MOUNTAIN DEW RED!” when Jeremy is remembering him doing just that at the party. I tried to describe the staging but couldn’t put it into words so here’s a picture
Tumblr media
Jeremy glitches even more than is on the cast recording, from the moment he first tries to say “I’m sorry,” and the lights in the set itself flash in time with his glitching; when he isn’t talking or being forced to hit Michael, he’s clutching his neck/throat and bending over in pain.
Jeremy knocks Michael to the floor with a punch, which was met with gasps and silence until Michael said “then why are you hitting me?” (an understatement, really.)
Jake pours the Mountain Dew Red either down a sink or into a laundry bin (either way, it’s not just onto the floor.) after telling Jeremy and Michael that his SQUIP blocked his pain receptors, he jumps a few times and says, “Now I don’t hurt anymore… here… or here,” first gesturing to his legs and then putting his hands over his heart.
when telling Jeremy they’re no longer mad at him, Brooke clings to Jeremy’s legs like she did in Upgrade, while Chloe wraps her arms around his neck and head; once they realize they see and like one another, they physically toss him aside.
the SQUIP urges Jeremy to “look how happy everyone is when they just get with the program!”
Michael tosses the bottle of Mountain Dew Red to Jeremy just before being knocked out and taken away by the SQUIP zombies.
the SQUIP zombies all bow to Christine when she appears. Christine gets VERY close to Jeremy during her solo, putting her hands on his chest and just generally being all over him.
once Christine’s finished singing, Jeremy is standing and watching her, the SQUIP telling him he can’t possibly drink the last drops, the hand that he’s holding the bottle with shaking uncontrollably as he tries to fight the SQUIP’s control… and then! his hand stops shaking as he gains the strength to physically knock the SQUIP back — and gives the bottle to Christine.
Michael explains about the links between the SQUIPs that means destroying one will destroy them all, AS the deactivation sequence is happening. good for him for figuring it out so quickly, I suppose? it does mess a bit with the flow of the scene though.
Voices In My Head
Rich’s “totally bi now” on Michael’s entrance is sung, sounding a lot like like “technically I’m homeless!”
Michael tells Jeremy that after everyone at the play passed out, “the audience went totally crazy… they’re saying it’s the best school play in years.”
since Michael’s already explained the linking between the SQUIPs, his and Jeremy’s conversation now focuses on how Jeremy knew that destroying one would destroy them all (he didn’t — he “was just trying to save Christine”) and why Michael came to help him:
Jeremy: After everything I did, you were still there for me.  Michael: Oh, I was fully prepared to watch you suffer. Jeremy: Wow. Michael: But then someone reminded me, when you love someone, you…  [Mr. Heere enters] Michael: …it sounds better when he says it.
Michael fixes Jeremy’s sweatshirt while saying it’s reassuring that Jeremy still needs them.
after Rich suggests that Jeremy tell Christine that she “excites you sexually,” Jeremy points at Rich as if to say “is that right?” and Michael and Mr. Heere make frantic gestures to the effect of “NO IT ISN’T.”
Brooke tells Jeremy that she’s still mad at him, but also over him, and Jenna’s arm is on her shoulder the whole time. considering that Chloe and Jake are being similarly affectionate in that scene, it certainly suggests that Brooke and Jenna are a couple now.
Jake dabs after offering his own advice, and Jeremy dabs in response.
Christine revealing that Ruth Bader Ginsberg was her SQUIP also got a big laugh.
instead of Jeremy bending down to kiss Christine, he kneels down in a sort of lunging position, and Christine runs into his arms to kiss him.
the repetition of “the loudest one is mine!” is accompanied by all the teens hugging and high fiving one another and dancing together. they’re all in love…
Stage door
Troy Iwata was the first to come out and sign things, and someone standing near me shouted “Troy’s our boy!”
George Salazar came out second, not long after Troy and first went around posing for selfies with everyone before going around a second time to actually sign things.
after a while of waiting, the band came out — no idea if they signed anything, but they got cheers, especially the theremin player.

Dodgeball
Aye, @crowdedimagines wrote a much better fic before we did. Read theirs here. I’m just here to spread that good Harry love. It’s a good time.
~
“I’m not going to lie, I'm a little nervous because Harry Styles and Y/N Y/L/N are on opposite teams. If anyone is going to take the game too far, it’s them two. I mean who wouldn’t want to hit their fiancé with a dodgeball?” Melissa Mcarthy said looking behind her. Harry was stretching while making no so subtle glances at Y/N as she talked to Michelle Obama.
“I’m not actually American, I’m British. Me and Reggie kind of got flip flopped. I was supposed to be on that team, but then the idea of girls against boys came around and now I’m here. So, uh, go colonies” Y/N said smiling and raising her fist. The audience laughed at her calling the U.S. ‘colonies’.
“She’s not even American, it’s kinda like she is trading in her own country” Harry says and he looked back at his fiancé that was stretching out with Melissa. The camera caught a glimpse of a smile before Harry changed back into his ‘game face’. “Ayway, it doesn’t matter. Fiancé or not she’s going down”
Y/N looked around with her eyebrows furrowed as she stood for the American national anthem. Mila Kunis looked at her and placed Y/N’s right hand on Y/N’s chest. She winked at her and turned to the flag as the anthem started.
Y/N started singing, making her voice purposefully quiet as she was the only singer in the group. She didn’t want to make the silly affair turn competitive so she kept her voice quiet. She made eye contact with Harry. He narrowed his eyes and shook his head at her, mouthing the word ‘traitor’. She grinned and decided to be louder.
“-at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars” Y/N sang louder making the other girls sing louder too. Their slightly dead performance livened up and sounded sweet with the women’s voices.
The America crowd clapped at their performance and Team UK started to sing ‘God Save the Queen’.
A smile tried to fight its way into Y/N’s face as James Corden tried to yell at everyone during the song. Harry shouted the words, making his voice dull to no outshine the other men. The UK crowd clapped at their song and James clapped.
“Let’s play dodgeball, yeah?” He said making both teams cheer. Y/N tightened her ponytail and walked dramatically with the other women to the left side of the court. The blue of their uniforms shining together.
The buzzer went off and everyone sprinted towards the middle. Y/N grabbed for a ball and tore it away beige Benedict Cumberbatch could grab it.
The game raged for a few minutes before it was only Harry on the UK side. Michelle Obama and Y/N on the US side.
Y/N blew a kiss and chucked the ball at Harry. He tried to jump over it, but only caused the ball to go to an unfortunate place. He laughed before falling dramatically to the ground.
Y/N spun around and Michelle jumped at her causing a group hug.
“Damn Y/N that’s harsh for your the man you’re going to marry. Don’t you want kids?” Melissa said making the group laugh. Y/N threw her head back in laughter and gave Harry another look. He looked at her and she mouthed ‘sorry’. He stuck his tongue out at her.
The next game started and ended with the UK winning. Their bragging brought a smile to Y/N’s face as she watched they hollar and jump on each other. Harry clung to James like a monkey and it took everything in her not to laugh.
Y/N sat on the bench at the end of the third game. She watched as the two women chucked their dodgeball at Benedict Cumberbatch. When one hit his leg she jumped off the bench and ran to the women on the field. A group hug commenced and they all started shouting “USA”.
Y/N stood on the podium as James handed Michelle the comically large trophy. They all huddled around it as confetti fell from the ceiling.
They stopped rolling and Harry came on the platform to hug Y/N.
“Congratulations darlin” he said rubbing her arms. She grinned and looked at her teammates. Melissa winked at her and covered her eyes jokingly.
“So, Fiancé or not I am going down huh” Y/N asked as she slid into the passenger's seat of the car. Harry gave her a sheepish smile before turning the keys over and starting the car.
“It was all for the camera. You know, hyping up the match, I was acting” he says taking his right hand off of the steering wheel and placing it into Y/N much smaller one. She gave him a sly smirk before popping the question.
“So Mr. Actor, how do your balls feel?” She asked turning her whole body towards him. She gave him a devilish smile while letting out a chuckle. He gave her a frown before looking down at his crotch.
“Hurts, but nothing my fiancé can’t help fix” he winked as to punctuate his sentence. Y/N laughed at him before replying “Fiancé or not, that’s not happening”

2019 Skate Canada Preview
While your hardworking mods are still vaguely traumatized and trying to figure out what scores are and how numbers work, time waits for no one, marching inexorably forward until death finally comes for us all. It’s going to be an exciting weekend of further rivalries as well as a hotly anticipated senior debut, so be sure to check it out.
Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier CAN
Age: 27/27
Started Skating Together: 2011
Coach: Carol Lane
Season's Best: 202.49
Rhythm Dance: Mack and Mabel
Free Dance: Both Sides Now
Gilles/Poirier have always been one of the most creative and innovative teams to watch, but they always seem to be almost there, forever on the edge of a breakthrough but never quite making it. Once again they've come up with original, intricate programs that strike a chord with the fandom, and unique, innovative elements to go along with it. They're always pushing boundaries both artistically and technically, and it's often led to them either struggling to deliver good performances in the first half of the season or stumbling at a crucial moment to move up or both. Hopefully this is the season they can finally break through and make it to the world podium. Their rhythm dance is super fun and they keep the energy going throughout despite the complexity. It’s the exact mix of kookiness and difficult content you’d expect from this team in a Broadway season. Their free dance has already been a bit polarizing, some already loving it while others see it as a lesser version of their Vincent FD last season, a good reminder there are a lot of people out there and every program can’t be for everyone. Regardless, they've scored very well with it, and if they can skate both programs to their best, there's some much objective good that the judges won't hesitate to throw points at them. They've had a lot of time to work out the kinks, and they've got a great opportunity to possibly win this event and finally get the break out season they've been waiting for.
Marjorie Lajoie/ Zachary Lagha CAN
Age: 18/20
Started Skating Together: 2010
Coach: Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon, Romain Haguenauer
Season's Best: 173.69
Rhythm Dance: West Side Story
Free Dance: Bohemian Rhapsody
The reigning Junior world champions are making their senior grand prix debut here in front of the home crowd. They're a very dynamic team, small and agile, with a lot of energy and athleticism. Lajoie/Lagha have chosen to highlight their youthful energy and strong performance quality in their move to seniors rather than trying to present a forcefully mature image and it works pretty well for them. They're clearly a senior level team-- young seniors, but more than ready for the transition. We've always wanted someone to choose only the upbeat tracks from West Side Story. It can be hard to keep that energy up through the whole program but Lajoie/Lagha make it look like a breeze. Their free dance is a great vehicle for Zachary in particular. Marjorie is such a big performer that she can pull focus but he's really the focus of this particular program and clearly enjoying himself the entire way through. Their elements feel smooth and secure, and there are playful touches like his plank in the choreo steps that just make this program really fun. If they keep cleaning up their tech and improving their presentation they can have a really solid grand prix debut here at home.
Haley Sales/ Nikolas Wamsteeker CAN
Age: 22/23
Started Skating Together: 2014
Coach: Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe
Season's Best: 157.59
Rhythm Dance: Mamma Mia!
Free Dance: Samson and Delilah
Happy Birthday Nikolas! And what better birthday present than to get to perform in front of the home crowd? Sales/Wamsteeker made their GP debut last season, where they placed #notlast, and went on to place a surprising fourth at Nationals, and they're trying to follow up and have another good season this year. Their rhythm dance is pretty cute and playful, with an incredible rotational lift to end. Their free dance contrasts with an intense, dramatic character driven program that we don't see as much of these days, and it's just extremely nice to watch. You can tell these two have been working hard over the off-season-- while they've always been on the taller side, it's more noticeable this season, they're using their long lines better and skating with more amplitude. They've got little to lose at this competition and if they skate like that, they might surprise people with how well they score.
Lilah Fear/ Lewis GIBSON GBR
Age: 20/25
Started Skating Together: 2016
Coach: Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon, Romain Haguenauer
Season's Best: 188.25
Rhythm Dance: Blues Brothers
Free Dance: Vogue
Discobrits! Or Voguebrits now, I guess, doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Audience friendly fan favorites back to wow us all once more with their fun, unique programs and approach to skating. Their edges aren't the deepest, but they have a light, breezy quality to their skating, and their performances are always geared to make sure we're having almost as much fun as they are. Their rhythm dance is super cute and bubbly the way a Finnstep should be, with nice little touches like the hop out of their twizzles or him sliding between her legs. But the real winner this season for them is their Madonna free dance, featuring great elements and choreography, and combined in some great ways like their choreographic lift near the end, as well as one of the best uses of the choreographic step sequences this season. Both last year and this year they've really made the most of that element and shown why it's a good addition to ice dance. The judges have seen fit to reward them for their commitment to being The Most Fun as well as their generally crisp execution of their elements. They've always been good at racking up enormous points in GOE, particularly on the choreographic elements as anyone who remembers us shrieking about five point knee slides last season will recall. They're a team that has really made the most of the rule changes this quad, and if they continue to improve their skating skills to match their performance quality, they're going to be a tough team to beat, and you'll see that here if they skate their best.
Sofia Evdokimova/ Egor Bazin RUS
Age: 22/24
Started Skating Together: 2007
Coach: Oleg Sudakov, Valentin Kuziaev, Artem Kudashev
Season's Best: 164.62
Rhythm Dance: 42nd Street
Free Dance: Schindler's List
Team Perseverance are bringing another solid set of programs and a badass cantilever lift to a screen near you! We talked a bit last season how, with one of the longest partnerships in the current field, Evdokimova/Bazin embody the work ethic and grit needed to succeed in this sport, having patiently and steadily clawed their way past several teams with both more funding and hype. Last season brought their first senior national medal and first trip to a senior championship event, and this season is not only their first time getting Grand Prix assignments without relying on a host pick, it’s also their first time getting two events. They're a tall, reliable team with a security in their elements that just makes them comfortable to watch. Their rhythm dance is a significantly more conventional take on the theme than last season’s tango but 42nd Street and the quickstep style fit them extremely well. We're not generally big on Schindler's List programs but theirs is fairly well done. The Russian national battle for bronze is going to be tough with likely several teams in contention depending on how the next two months shape up. But it’s not over as long as you don’t quit, as Evdokimova/Bazin have continued to prove.
Betina Popova/ Sergey Mozgov RUS
Age: 22/24
Started Skating Together: 2016
Coach: Anjelika Krylova
Season's Best: 175.24
Rhythm Dance: Cabaret
Free Dance: Bohemian Rhapsody
Two Bohemian Rhapsody FDs in one competition, because why not? Not that you’ll have even the slightest chance of confusing the two. These uber dramatic weirdos can be a bit of an acquired taste, but they always go above and beyond, and you've got to admire their commitment. They have a tendency to be a little sloppy technically, but they're working on cleaning up their skills, and it's really the performance of these two that draws in the audience. Their elements, particularly their lifts are creative and daring, and they're always trying something new. Artistically they're in your face and unapologetic about it. While there are a number of great Cabaret rhythm dances this season, this is the One True Cabaret in our minds. From the costumes to choreography to performance, they're just all in, and have so clearly done their homework. Their free dance has some of, if not THE most spectacular lifts of the season, and again, a level of commitment that is near unparalleled. Unfortunately, where they're lagging behind in scores right now are the GOEs, particularly in the free dance. Their elements are creative and exciting, but so far they've been struggling with the execution and it's dragging down their scores. Part of that's the early season, part of it is that they often get so into performing they slip off their edges and lose focus in their elements. If they can deliver their normal Diva performance without losing control of their tech, they can make it to the top 5 at least, if not higher.
Sara Hurtado/ Kirill Khaliavin ESP
Age: 26/28
Started Skating Together: 2016
Coach: Alexander Zhulin
Season's Best: 193.47
Rhythm Dance: Hello Dolly
Free Dance: "Oroboy" and "Puerta del Sol"
Coming off a successful season where they regained their National title and claimed the coveted spot at worlds, Hurtado/Khaliavin are aiming to cement their spot as the top Spanish team and make a push up the ranks internationally as well. They're a really great team with stylish programs and interesting choreography and elements, even if their twizzles sometimes give them trouble. They’ve already competed twice this season though customs issues have kept them from getting to debut their new costumes and we’ve seen the return of an old short dance dress and a very minimalistic look for their flamenco. Maybe this week?? The rhythm dance is lighter than their usual fare and a great opportunity for them to show some fun personality on the ice. Their free dance is tense, dark, and dramatic, and they really bring out all the subtleties and nuances in the music, and this is a great contrast to their Don Quixote free dance from the Olympic season. The Spanish ice dance battle for one Worlds spot remains as gridlocked as ever in this early part of the season, with both teams seeing increases in their scoring potential compared with last season. Smart/Diaz finished just off the podium at Skate America last weekend and it’s definitely possible for Hurtado/Khaliavin to do at least that well this week in Canada.
Caroline Green/ Michael Parsons USA
Age: 16/24
Started Skating Together: 2019
Coach: Elena Novak and Alexei Kiliakov
Season's Best: 173.03
Rhythm Dance: Cry Baby
Free Dance: Woodkid Medley
After a solid grand prix debut last week, they're back for their second assignment to continue proving the advantage of years of matching technique when forming a new dance team. They not only finished a very respectable seventh in their GP debut as a team, and Caroline’s senior GP debut, they held their own against teams with much more competitive experience together. They still have plenty of room to improve but their partnering is great and their matching strokes and flow across the ice are already great assets, particularly evident in the free dance. Green/Parsons will be finishing up their debut Grand Prix season early and then heading to another challenger event before US Nationals, which is shaping up to be quite an interesting dance event.
Kaitlin Hawayek/ Jean-Luc Baker USA
Age: 22/25
Started Skating Together: 2012
Coach: Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon, Romain Haguenauer
Season's Best: 192.47
Rhythm Dance: Saturday Night Fever
Free Dance: Beethoven's 5th Symphony
In their sixth senior season, Hawayek/Baker are clearly looking to make a major push up the ranks, domestically and internationally. Their programs this season were clearly designed to stand out, not only from the rest of the field, but from what they've done in the past, and force the judges and audience to look at them with fresh eyes. They're such mature, experienced performers with nuances and details in their skating that few teams can match, domestically or abroad. This season they've really taken advantage of this in a more extroverted way than usual. They've ditched the more subtle, classic, lyrical style for something much more in your face, and for both programs. We always encourage more disco programs, and their rhythm dance has a lot of energy in the beginning and end and if they can keep the performance level up during the slower middle it'll really be a program to remember. Their free dance is kind of a wacky take on flamenco, where she's Marie Antoinette and there's a whole storyline happening that we don't really understand but also don't really need to? It's clear that they really believe in their material and the direction they're moving in and we're interested to see where they go from here. It's going to be pretty tough for them to make GPF again this season, although never say never. Collecting another GP medal however is definitely within their capabilities, and will allow them to reestablish themselves as a team that's going up.
Madison Hubbell/ Zachary Donohue USA
Age: 28/28
Started Skating Together: 2011
Coach: Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon, Romain Haguenauer
Season's Best: 209.55
Rhythm Dance: My Heart Belongs to WHAT now??
Free Dance: A Star is Born
Like last year, they're finishing up their grand prix season early and they head into their second event with one Grand Prix gold, though they didn’t take the win in the free dance at Skate America. While their rhythm dance may have had us wishing there was an automatic deduction for every time your program mentions “daddy”, this lighter style is a nice departure from what we’ve seen from Hubbell/Donohue in recent seasons. We’ve got some mixed feelings about their free dance at this point, and with no real time between events to make changes based on judges’ feedback their main objectives will be consistency and getting more mileage on both programs with the goal of being the first team to reserve their spot in the GPF.
