How would you rank each antagonist from the oniverse?
Thank you for this ask! This was actually super fun to do! I'll give a bit of an explanation as to how we ranked them, cuz we kinda went above and beyond haha. I purposely left out a few antagonists who played super minor roles, like Dorhn and Warrack. I also didn't include very many grey characters in this lineup. So characters like Phos, Iona, or even Rook are not included. While technically antagonists at certain points in the story, they are still considered allies for the most part. And no I didn't include Garmadon or Harumi, I felt it best to only include OC villains.
I created 4 categories that I think encapsulate everything important and rankable about a villain and gave them a score out of ten for that category, and then added it up to get a total score of villainy and ranked them based on that.
The first category is overall Appeal. This refers to attractiveness, charisma, and if they were fun to write/read. So right off the bat very subjective haha
The second category is Impact. How much did their actions or presence impact the story and characters? How many characters did they impact? So this includes any kind of damage emotional, physical, or phycological in nature that they inflicted. We also kinda stretched it to include far-reaching effects or indirect influence, like how the Island's creation triggered the Dragon Oni war for example.
The third category is Motive. What drives the villain to do the things they do? This one was a little harder to pin down. For this ranking I considered a villian doing things for the sake of being evil as a 1, and a 10 is when the villian is doing things because they believe its the right thing to do, or they are so committed to their own belief or desire be it good or bad that they will stop at nothing to accomplish it. So basically the difference is whether they had a strong sense of reasoning behind their actions or not.
And finally, we have the Power category. This one was def the most straightforward. It mostly just came down to who was the most difficult to defeat. Be it with shear power, overall skill and cunning, or political influence.

So. I love this. The way Yuri snickers at Flynn showing his real self. The way he, without hesitation, says "yeah" to the idea that he would die in Flynn's place.
But the most important part of this entire thing, which was changed in the dub, is how Yuri specifically jokes that Flynn is trying to abandon him, and Flynn returns and tells Don he had no intention of abandoning Yuri.
Yuri does not hear this. Flynn knows that. But Flynn uses the exact same term Yuri used earlier, as if it's his answer to Yuri and saying no, I would never abandon you.
For reference:
Personally I just... love the weight of it. How Flynn will say something about Yuri that Yuri won't hear, but he still speaks it out into existence because it's how he really feels.
Just because Yuri won't hear it doesn't mean he won't say it, and in a way that's even more powerful. He's not looking for the credit of saying it. He's not looking to be recognized for saying it. He's not only expressing how he feels about Yuri somewhere that Yuri himself will hear him.
They're just his real, honest feelings, and he'll admit them even if Yuri's not within earshot.
You know, with the fact that Ryn went and got herself petrified within a day of finding out just how willing the Ruby Vanguard are to fuck a wizard up, I do think that, while the bar is very low, Essek (as he is during the course of the campaign) really does deserve some credit for never ending up in such a self-imposed pickle that he needed his allied party to show up and save him from himself. In fact, the only time the Nein directly felt the need to worry about him was when Caleb put him in danger without thinking through certain connections that would be made, and even then, that was more of Caleb feeling guilt-ridden about it than actual worrying.
And to be very clear, Essek absolutely was and still to this day in canon is in a massive, self-imposed pickle, but when it actually comes down to it, the Nein were pretty tangential and superfluous to navigating that, and he's predominantly doing the work himself.
Bought one of my lil nephew giannis shoes for his birthday bcs he loves giannis and these are some of the ugliest fucking things I have ever laid my eyes on in my life. anyways it's his bday today so i gave them to him. but they are so ugly. he loves them
Everytime people discuss who should be in the leadership group and start writing fanfiction about how Mitch doesn't deserve anything and doesn't do anything for the leafs, actually, I just think about this article and wonder how we got here. I think he could be captain- I actually think he could be a great one. But I guess we'll never know https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/2469915/2021/03/25/mitch-marner-ohl-season/
reading that just made me so fucking emotional. i honestly think it would translate into great captaincy in the nhl too... he just happens to be on a team with auston matthews, so i get WHY it's like this (still.. if there was ever a modern case for co-captains but. too late now ig) but. i hate to say it's not the right market bc it's not his fault that this market is so fucking volatile and stupid so often, lmfao. like. he says things the same as anyone and i'll firmly defend that to death. i hate when people say even lovingly 'no he shouldnt do that' or 'i wish hed stop talking to them' like no, fuck you, lol. it's the temperament in toronto that's the fucking issue and more people should be seriosuly talking abt it and calling it out in the main journalists so they can be shamed and maybe learn responsibility. it's stripping so many of our players and staff from ever letting an ounce of personality or anything personal show whatsoever. it makes it so much less fun and WAY less marketable. it's just obnoxious to me, but mitch marner is someone who has SO MUCH leadership presence too.... like in 22-23 when HE was this team's mvp and the team was coming together to try to make stuff happen for him???? it echoes auston's chase for 70 so much. there's that other great article from a couple yrs ago abt mitch and auston and their personality differences but how both are leading the team and it's just so true. they're natural born leaders but even more than that, their work ethic and accountability to themselves is insane, you can just see it. i'm so sad we live with this era of social media as leaf fans sometimes bc it's genuinely so hostile and obnoxious to try to participate in, lol. mitch can be loud and knows how to point out when stuffs wrong and wants to work to fix it and hold ppl accountable. but on the same hand, he also wants everyone to feel like THEY can talk if they need to and that they're welcome there and valued as people and that's just like. a beautiful personality trait to have. that locker room would not be half of what it is without him, idec, lmao.
just had the thought "after i exhaust the french fiction, poetry, and textbooks i own, i could read the french dictionary cover to cover" and got, like, GENUINELY excited about it.
‘what can i say?’ ichiro looks down at kuukou after a beat, ‘i’d never abandon my friends.’ with a newfound fondness brimming in his eyes, his intent is clear.
‘heh!’ kuukou grins at ichiro, cheeks dusting a rosy tint. it’s one of the few times kuukou’s actually blushed within the series. he is gay.
