Hello, everyone!

MCUchallenge here and we’re moving to the next stage of our tournament to determine the favourite Disney+ Marvel series of phase 4 - the semi-finals! 😃

Round 4 results can be found here, and our 1st semi-final “battle” is Loki vs. WandaVision!

To give your vote to the show you need to create something on it: a gifset/art/edit - the usual things we take as fills for our prompts, and bring it as a fill. Your creation can be about anything from the series of your choice - a scene, a character, a dynamic, a random set, shooting of the series, actors talking about the series - anything you want. Mention @mcuchallenge in your caption, tag your work #mcuchallengefilled, and that’s it, your favourite show is one point closer to the victory!

The first semi-final starts today and you have the chance to give your vote to Loki or WandaVision until 15th of June, 2023 - that’ll be the last day to bring your works for this round.

Some rules/info about the tournament:

1) Each round lasts for a month. They are elimination rounds, the winner gets to proceed to the next stage.

2) Each round only 1 edit from a blog will count as a vote*. You are welcome to bring however many edits you want, they will feature on the page with other fills, but only the first one you do for the show will bring it the point.

[Yes, this is the restriction per blog, not per person. If you’re a member of a source blog or have a side blog, you can bring sets from both and they will both give a point to the show.]

*one edit for each show. You can bring edits for both shows if you like both and it’ll give 1 point to both shows. The reason this is relevant is that we’ll count the alternative unofficial results at the end as well, in which the show’s place will be determined by the number of points it got in the tournament overall.

Let them know about the tournament, you might interest them in participating ;) Love a gifmaker? fine, i’ll elaborate on my thoughts about tylor sift but they will be disorganized

disclaimer: i know a few people will read this and be like “op is a hozier fan can she really talk about the cultural obsession with mediocre white art?” and the answer is yes because a) i’m black and i have an english degree so can do whatever i fucking want, b) hozier is a better artist than taylor objectively, like his mediocre tracks would be considered her great ones, and c) the comparison of taylor to hozier is part of the problem Genuinely because i don’t even think white people like half the music they listen to, they just don’t wanna be left behind, we’ll get into this later. i’m sorry to everyone who is tired of hearing about him but hozier will be returning later in this post jsfglsjlgldsjlfd

i don’t just dislike taylor because she’s white. i don’t dislike taylor because she’s a woman. i don’t dislike her because she writes mean and petty lyrics about past relationships and people who wronged her. i don’t dislike taylor because her public circle of friends is almost exclusively blonde white celebrities with their own laundry lists of issues that includes ryan reynolds and blake lively who are poster children for white privilege and pseudo-excellence if i’ve ever seen them. i dislike taylor because the amalgamation of all of those things is so exemplary of a huge problem i have with the music industry in general but also like american society

fuck it, numbered list!

1. taylor swift consistently releases the same mediocre album but in different colors. every album is the same lyrically and tonally. her body of work rarely goes very far above “good for taylor swift”. folklore as both title and musical aesthetic is irrelevant to the actual content of the album, which is just every taylor swift album except set to folk pop and with a bit more cussing, congrats for baby’s first swear. i’ve seen folklore compared to much better bodies of work and even propped up by stans as album of the year, a distinction that rina sawayama and chloe x halle will be battling it out for if there is any justice in the world at all. the fact that she is allowed to do this and still be considered great when this is something that even white male artists are butchered critically for... astounds me. like we all know how well received all of coldplay’s similar sounding albums are.... Come on. 

2. i don’t think taylor or her work is particularly feminist and yet for some reason every time she frowns an army of white women brings her kleenex. i’m not saying taylor’s anger has always been unjustified, but her feminism to me has always felt like “i can do whatever a man can do” feminism, which is utterly fucking useless to me as a black woman. it’s only useful to her because as a wealthy, white, straight, cis white woman her ONLY obstacle in life is her gender. and if she just didn’t have that tricky little bitch then maybe people would take her seriously. like, just think about her music video for the man... what was the thesis of that? what was the point of that? with all of her privileges she’d just be gaining a single extra privilege. she’s a blonde blue eyed thin white girl, the world kisses her feet. i have no interest in proving myself any better or any worse than white men, they are not the standard for how a person should be treated, they’re cautionary tales, and white women are too. i think taylor capitalizes off of white woman victimhood, and it’s all over her writing style. even when she’s trying to be empowered, like in mad woman for example, there is this tone to it of victimization, poking the bear, unleashing the beast if you will. she invokes the imagery of salem witches and even more boldly chooses a noose to write about in the song which is..... surely going to be a white tumblr staple for many gifsets to come but holy shit is it hollow. she also tends to come back to teenage memories in her music and she’s thirty. i don’t think about being seventeen unless i’m being held at gunpoint but she seems to think about it All The Time. and part of this is to keep herself young, at least in her music, which only further ingrains this image of fragile teeny bopper taylor into the mind of the listener, fueling her victim image. this imagery and language means nothing because the world always rallies around taylor. even when she was the butt of jokes for not being beyonce (which she is not and never can be) and writing about her exes (which she does), she was largely supported by the industry and by critics. look at how many fucking awards she has!

3. folk and indie and alternative music is in a moment of transition, where musicians of color are getting the chance to really speak about how they’ve been treated in these overwhelmingly white circles and create their own standards and their own voices. and for taylor swift to swoop in with aaron dessner and jack antonoff fantano and almost reassert that mid-2010s indie sound as The Sound of folk pop in the popular consciousness.... it makes me violent! it! makes! me! violent! 

4. back to hozier! finally, i wanna talk about white standom, fandom, bandom, and womandom. i often see these very superficial comparisons between hozier and taylor (and hozier and florence and hozier and stevie nicks and hozier and whatever other white woman in fashion) and they frustrate me for more than one reason. i know that hozier has met taylor and said she’s cool, which is nice of him and he’s a nice man, but i’m not a nice man so i’m going to just say it: none of the people who have made those posts have listened to more than four hozier songs and it shows. the reason why this matters is because these posts catch on and create an image and preconception of hozier’s music that is divorced from reality and divorced from his influences and most importantly divorced from the deliberate and reverent blackness of his musical style. hozier has his white male privilege in the industry for sure but he’s not as towering of a giant as taylor and taylor’s music is an unsalted chicken, plain oatmeal, white paint drying on a white wall, a stick of unflavored gum. her music is so white it told me that its dad is a cop. i am, as a black hozier fan, exhausted with having to share space with white women who don’t know why hozier’s music kicks me in my lungs sometimes and think that taylor mentioning a tree ONCE in her 3 minute acoustic guitar slog about whatever suburb is the same when it simply is not. i swear some of you are pretending to love taylor because your friends love her and you don’t wanna be left out of the hot new musical discourse but she’s only the hot new musical discourse CONSTANTLY because she’s a white woman, she’s almost the Perfect white woman. like if someone asked me to describe a white woman, it would be taylor swift. her position at the top of the musical pyramid among people who eclipse her musically, vocally, and lyrically is only allowed because she’s The Perfect White Woman. she’s an ideal. white girls relate to her immediately because of it and now we have this unshakable mob of unbearable white women who think that the world has wronged someone who literally wrote fanfiction about the rich oil heiress white woman who owned her rhode island mansion before her aklghlghdhlgs it drives me fucking NUTS

hello there! first, welcome to tumblr and thank you for the kind compliment! it's so exciting that you'll be making new content! and I'd be happy to share some tips under the cut :)

tips for your mental wellness: - set boundaries for yourself and your blog. tumblr should be a safe and happy place for YOU, so it's completely valid for you to make clear what you will and won't post about - as soon as creating feels like a chore, take a step back. it's easier said than done, but try not to feel the too-common pressure to constantly produce content - be selective with who you follow — don't let the bad apples ruin your experience here - don't feel bad about blocking someone! if they make you feel uncomfy in any way (or if they're stealing your creations), block 'em!

tips for managing your blog: - create a tagging system! this keeps your content organized and help your followers filter things like potential triggers - use the queue to keep your blog active even when you're offline! I currently have mine running to post 5 times a day between 6am-11pm (US/Pacific time). currently, tbobf is increasing the amount of new content — but I usually have it set to 3 times a day between 8am-12am when there's less new content - make a tracking tag so people can show you stuff they've made! generally, people use the #username format (like mine is #usernik) — but you can make yours whatever you want. put it in your blog description so people can see it when they visit your blog! (and again, be clear about what you don't want to be tagged in — I do this in my about/nav page)

tips for tumblr etiquette: - when applicable, ALWAYS link inspo in your caption! there are so many talented creators on this site who spend hours making gifs/edits — and it sucks when you see someone recreate your idea without linking back to what inspired them - if you "like" something, reblog it too! that's how we show support to fellow creators and increase their visibility - don't be rude in your tag commentary. no one wants to see #i love everyone in this set except [character name] - be kind and respect other people's boundaries! - post replies under a gifset aren't for conversations with friends, so use DMs instead - tag potential triggers to keep your followers safe! and if someone asks you to tag a trigger, be respectful and don't invalidate them - and of course, always reblog and never repost. even if you put an image source link under, the creator would prefer a reblog

tips for making edits/gifs: - use the highest quality files you can find. when I can, I always use 2160p files for gifs (aka 4K). if I can't get 4K, then I'll do 1080p with the biggest file size I can find. here's a helpful tutorial! - I use photoshop, but I know there are other software people use to make gifs. find what works for you! - here's a basic gifmaking tutorial! (I also love their sharpening action) - my ideal gif speed is 0.05 sec. this is a preference but 0.05 is pretty standard with most gifmakers I know! I sometimes use a faster speed when giffing video games like JFO - put photography credits in your caption if you edit photoshoots! - the file size limit for gifs is 10mb (more info here) and the maximum width is 540px (here's a guide on image dimensions!). also, the gutter size is 4px - establish a creations tag and link it in your blog description. for example, my creations tag is #myedit* - how to get your creations seen: tag other people in your fandom (most people love to be tagged, but you can always check with them if it's ok!), tag appropriate source blogs (for star wars creations, you can tag #starwarsblr — or for diego luna creations, you could tag #diegolunasource), tag appropriate edit tags (for example, #swedit for star wars)

tips for connecting with people in your fandom: - leave nice comments in the tags of your reblog! most friendships or follow-backs I've made have started with super kind tags in reblogs of my sets :') - see if there's a discord server you can join to connect with people who love what you love! I'm part of a few servers for creators and one with some of my mando friends <3 - again, tag people in your gifsets! - apply to source blogs and networks to be part of a group of like-minded people in your fandom! - start a conversation in DMs! or if you're feeling shy, you can submit an ask with one of those "chain mail" things like "send this ask to 5 people you follow to brighten their day" - make an about page! this will help other people get to know you and the things you love! but of course, be safe and don't give away info that could put you at risk!

maybe i’m a bit biased because those two are my favourite ones but it’s Joonas/Olli. both friendshipwise and different 😏 idk ever since i watched the third episode of the Life On The Dark Side vlogs (yes, the 🍆 one), the way Joonas talked about Olli being his childhood friend and “truly his bro” got stuck in my head. and every time i see them next to each other in photos or watch their on and off stage shenanigans i just go full uwu because i remember those two sentences from the vlog and their friendship makes my heart so soft 🥺 (now since i’m reading fanfics too, i really like how writers approach this pairing, no matter the context of the stories ☺️)

• Anything you wish would be asked in an interview because you really want to know about it?

this will sound very geeky but i want them to be interviewed about their gear or answer questions that have to do with the recording process of a song (like what software they use, which plugins etc). this is totally self indulgent because i wanna delve more into music technology if i have a chance to apply for a master's in music technology, trust me i'll take it and i enjoyed the music technology courses i took in university so it would be interesting. also i'd be so in if for their 10-year anniversary they did vlogs about their whole career, from the early days til now and those vlogs would include answers to questions asked from fans or just their own comments like in their track-by-track videos. i know the last part has nothing to do with anything i wish they would be asked about in an interview, but it's kiiiinda related i guess??

hello all!!! i have answered this before and i have a vid help tag with other asks i’ve gotten about stuff like this! but i’ve gotten several more messages along these lines so i’m just going to answer a bunch of them together (under a cut since i love to ramble about editing lol). i do just wanna say i’m definitely not the authority on video editing and obv everyone has their own techniques!

edit: i just finished typing all this up and it’s SO long so sorry in advance LMAO god bless anyone who reads this entire thing

so i work in news tv and we have a very specific workflow for writing scripts, sourcing video, producing, and editing. i’ve just applied that to making amvs! for every video i make, i copy the song lyrics into a google doc and adjust them to match the song i’ve cut (i often will trim songs for time and/or content purposes). then i start planning! i’ll mark down what clip i want to use for each lyric next to that line, and any sound bites i want to use (with episode numbers!). i’ll color code between video and sound bites and lyrics, so my scripts end up looking something like this (for my honeybee amv):

doing the planning ahead of time makes everything much easier when it’s a video that spans the whole show or involves a lot of sourcing, like honeybee or sports analogies. that way when i get to the actual editing process, i already know what i’m going to do and have a game plan. for videos like happy ending or believe it or not, where i’m mainly just pulling from a few episodes, i can just plan it in my head as opposed to writing it all down, and produce as i edit. obviously i do make in-the-moment decisions while editing—sometimes a shot doesn’t work the way i thought it would, or i go where the video takes me—but planning ahead definitely helps. i know some people use spreadsheets as well, with columns for lyrics, video clips, and sound bites if applicable. once you find a system that works, it actually goes pretty quickly.

as for sourcing clips themselves/finding clips within episodes, i talked about that here and kind of here. the short version is that transcripts are a must, and the supernatural wiki is hugely helpful by cataloguing all the hugs, prayers, phone calls, etc. in the show. gifmakers that tag episode numbers on their posts are your friends. it gets easier the more video you make—that’s another huge reason i make the google docs for each video (even the ones i plan in my head, i end up going back and making a loose script with episode notes just for reference). if i can’t remember where something is but i know i used it in another video, i can easily reference past scripts!

i also cut all my videos in the same project in premiere pro, so i can flip between them easily. instead of checking a past script, i can just go to the video sequence itself and copy the clip i’m looking for! this was especially helpful when i match cut together the 5x18 and 4x22 wall slam shots for my bestie video, and then stole it from myself for honeybee hahaha. at any given time i have at least 8 sequences open:

because of the sheer volume of videos i make, it’s worth it for me to download the entire show—i have all 327 episodes in HD, plus deleted scenes. if you think you’re only going to make a few videos, i’d start with scene packs. you can usually just google “destiel [or whatever ship/character you’re looking for] scene packs” and there will be any number of ones you can download. if you need other specific scenes, you can always download/torrent individual episodes or screen record netflix (that’s what i did before i got HD download links). i’m happy to share my links if you DM, but be warned it’s a lot of disk space (about 500GB on my hard drive). someone also compiled every destiel scene, downloadable here.

having every episode already loaded in premiere for all my projects also makes it a lot easier to source clips. once i use a clip in a video, i’ll put a marker on the episode file, so that after a while i have most of the important scenes/lines marked to easily find them. to give you an idea, this is my episode file in premiere for 12x10 lily sunder has some regrets (markers at destiel scenes, the car fight, hot girl cas, etc.). markers are the green tabs along the bottom:

premiere also lets you color code and name markers, so ONE DAY i will go back and color code them all. the ones above are all the same color, but in a perfect world, i’d have a myraid—for destiel shots like hugs, touches, looks; for important pieces of dialogue; for action shots; etc. but for now this works ok for me, so that’s a project for another time!

between detailed scripts, one giant premiere project, markers, the wiki, and my own memory, i have so many points of reference that i can usually find any clip i need in about 2 minutes max. sound bites are often harder to start out, or tiny specific shots i haven’t used before, and that’s when i turn to tumblr gifsets or beloved mutuals to crowdsource. but if you’re as obsessive about marking/keeping neat scripts as i am, it gets easier and easier with every video you make. that’s part of why i’m able to cut videos together so quickly. (also i want to stress i do this for a living and have to produce/edit a new piece for my show every day so i’m used to it. and compared to constantly updating content/sources and news that changes every day, 327 highly documented episodes that never change are much easier to handle hahaha)

this is all great for me since i make so many videos and plan to continue doing so, but if you’re only making a few, this level of work isn’t worth it imo. really it’s all about developing a system that works for you. whatever you do with episodes/sourcing, though, i cannot recommend planning things out in a script ahead of time enough. 

everything i just mentioned is producing, though. for the editing process, i usually do it in this order:

music first. any parts i want to cut, i make sure it all sounds smooth

then soundbites. i usually try to weave them into the lyrics—i have characters talk in breaks between lines or instrumental sections as much as possible. i’ll sometimes go so far as looped/extending an intsrumental part to make room for the soundbite i want there lol. if i do have dialogue over a line, i do the sound mixing/levels at this point as well to make sure everything is audible/one doesn’t overpower the other. (also i always include the video that goes with these bites when i drop them in, and decide later if i want to show the character speaking or have other clips cover the dialogue)

once i have all the audio locked in, then i bring in all my other video clips. sometimes i edit completely chronologically, sometimes jumping from section to section—it depends on the song or how i’m feeling

double check sound mixing. i usually listen to my videos through a few times, with headphones and without to make sure it’ll sound good no matter how people watch it

once i have picture and audio lock, i go through and color correct my clips. i’m basic and just use lumetri color in premiere, and usually just play with brightness, saturation, temperature, and tint until i like it

render and export! :)

i always have several audio tracks, but i try to keep my video tracks condensed. i’ll drop clips on a V2 level, and edit a section there, and drop the whole chunk down to V1 so i know it’s finished. that way when i leave and come back i can know where i left off/what’s done/etc. to give you an idea, this is the timeline for my what the hell video:

i always render as H.264 with high bitrate, and make sure to check “render at maximum depth” and “use maximum render quality” for the best quality. i’m sorry, but i don’t know what the equivalent options are in final cut, imovie, kdenlive, etc. i post on youtube mostly so i don’t have to sacrifice quality, but usually just using a lower bitrate will get you under the tumblr file size limit and it’ll still look good.

as for the anon who asked about “polishing��: first of all, thank you!! second of all, it’s in the details. all of this is a matter of taste and my own insanity, but here are some little things i always try to do:

after i color correct, i blur out any credits from the starts of episodes. i use gaussian blur for this, but really any blur tool works

as much as possible, i avoid clips where we see a character’s mouth move but don’t hear the words. in tv/film we call it “lip flap” and i just think it looks messy. also i’m trained to avoid it at all costs at work hahaha. it’s more for serious videos that this matters a lot to me (e.g. i think i did a really good job eliminating lip flap in my happy ending amv)—for comedy videos i don’t sweat it as much

i put audio fades on the start and end of every single audio clip i use, even if i don’t think i need it, to make sure everything sounds smooth

i use markers for timing, especially in action-y videos like what the hell. i’ll put a marker on the clip i’m using at the exact moment a punch lands, and in the song on the beat. if i have the magnet/snap in timeline tool on i can just easily snap them together instead of having to spend time finagling it

this is such a small thing but i dip/cut to black for a tiny bit at the start and end of every video. this way if i post with tumblr video player, there’s black between the loops, and it gives you a beat before the video restarts. i do this even on videos i post on youtube, just because i think it looks nicer/more professional

A Second Chance

Based on this gifset by @azozzoni .The dialogue between Jens and Lucas at the start is completely taken from the gifset. (Thank you for inspiring me to write this and for allowing me to post this! I hope you like it!)

“So now you finally know what it's like to be stood up. About time someone is making you check your ego,” Robbe says cheekily. It's accompanied with a gentle push of Jens' shoulder, probably in an attempt to lighten Jens' mood.

It's not working.

Jens simply scoffs and looks back down to his text messages with Lucas. His last one still unanswered even though he send it on Friday, three days ago now. He is staring at it maybe in hopes of Lucas finally texting back. All it does though is stare back at him, mocking him for his hope.  

You could've at least send a text.

But Lucas didn't. There has been nothing but radio silence on Lucas' end for the whole weekend. The whole weekend Jens fought with the urge to send another one, wanting to ask him why he didn't just say no, why he agreed to a date when Jens had finally collected his courage to ask him out, after weeks of what Jens thought was mutual flirting. Not only that but Lucas' confirmation came with an excited nod of his head and an elated smile, that made his ocean eyes shine with anticipation.

He was so excited when Lucas has actually said yes, so happy that he didn't read the signs wrong, that the little dance around each other and all those stolen glances meant something, that Lucas was actually interested in him. Jens feels so stupid. Whatever feelings made him say yes must've vanished in the meantime or, as Jens has not allowed himself to really think about, must've simply never existed.

The first half an hour he was a little worried but still chill, Jens doesn't have the best track record with punctuality either. At the forty five minute mark he started to worry a little more and had send the first text, asking him if he was okay, if something happened. When he didn't get an answer to that after another hour Jens had finally accepted that Lucas simply wouldn't come, that he has been stood up. Which is when he send that last text.

He called Robbe instead, who immediately picked up with worry in his voice, knowing that Jens was supposed to be on a date with the boy who his best friend couldn't stop talking about in the last few weeks. They had a good old fashioned sleep over and even with Sander there, it was exactly what Jens needed to not wallow in self pity. He really, really liked Lucas. When he first saw him enter the classroom, introduced by the teacher as a new student from Utrecht, he felt this inexplicable pull and this inability to take his eyes off him. His pulse quickened when those eyes were set on him and a tiny, surprised smile pulled at the corner of Lucas' mouth.

The rational side of Jens can't make sense of it, especially when his brain supplies with him with enough memories of Lucas that made him so sure that there was something between them. The blush on the other boy's cheek when Jens had reached out to tuck that one curl behind his ear, claiming that he had something in his hair. The way Lucas' hand would brush against his one too many times to be a coincidence. The compliments that Lucas would accept freely and give back with a smile that made Jens want to kiss it off. That one time he almost did.

He is too lost in his thoughts to notice someone approach until he hears Robbe's voice next to him: “Look who's coming this way. The boy who broke Jens' hea-” Jens quickly slaps Robbe's arm to stop him from finishing that sentence. There is no way that Lucas needs to know how hurt he was by him.

Jens has a hard time trying to figure out what Lucas' expression could mean. He looks apprehensive, as if not sure what to do or say now that he is actually in front of Jens. What he settles on only infuriates Jens a little bit more. If only because the answer to the question is most definitely yes, despite how much Jens tried to forget about Lucas over the weekend.

“Hey, you miss me?”

Jens doesn't give him anything, tries to keep his reaction to a minimum. He raises his drink to his mouth and takes a sip, letting Lucas cook in the uncomfortable tension between them.

“I'm sorry I didn't come the other day. I can explain.”

At this point, Jens' disappointment, anger and wounded pride prevent him from actually wanting to know the explanation. He also doesn't want Lucas to think he still cares. It would be nice if he could convince himself of that as well.

“No need. I get it,” Jens says, voice cold and final. The pained look on Lucas' face momentarily makes him want to take his words back. But the memory of waiting for him in the skate park for nearly two hours makes him stick to his decision.

Lucas holds his gaze for a few more seconds, looking defeated and sad and Jens nearly breaks. But then he simply turns around and walks away. Jens watches his retreating form with a thoughtful expression, still fighting between the feeling of having done the right thing and the regret for not letting Lucas explain.

Robbe's “Maybe you should hear him out” is not really helping him sort through his confused feelings. “Shut up, Robbe,” Jens replies more irritated than he meant to.

“Jens, he looked really–”

“No, Robbe. Just drop it. I don't wanna talk about it anymore. Are we going to skate or what?”

His best friend eyes him with a concerned expression, probably considering if it is a good idea to push right now. He must decide against it because he simply shrugs his shoulders, sets down his board and skates off, looking over his shoulder to check if Jens is joining him. Jens tries to shake off his confusing feelings and follows his best friend.

* * *

It's only in the evening when Robbe has already gone off to his date with Sander that he sees the messages. He wishes his best friend would still be here, so he could advice him what to make of it.

Jens, I'm really sorry.

Please give me another chance.

I swear I can explain, something happened but I don't want to tell you over text.

He sounds sincere enough, but what could've happened that he can't just explain over text? Admitting that he simply doesn't feel like that about Jens would probably be easier to text. Cowardly, but easier. So maybe it's not that? Maybe he is saying the truth and something did really happen. But again, he couldn't even write one single text message for the whole duration of the weekend to explain or even apologize?

Either way, the regret of not letting Lucas explain has won over the certainty of having made the right choice since the skate park. If Lucas is as sincere as his message seems to be he deserves a chance to explain and after some consideration Jens is willing to give him one. He just hopes Lucas doesn't break his heart a second time.

Tomorrow after school?

The answer comes immediately, even though Jens has responded nearly five hours after Lucas' initial message.

Thank you, Jens! I hope you can forgive me.

Part of him hopes the same thing and an even smaller part, not ready to be acknowledged or questioned, tells him that he already did.

It was nerve wrecking seeing Lucas at school the next day. They only have one class together so at least that made it easier to avoid him until the end of school today. But during that one hour Jens was so distracted by the presence of the other boy just two tables ahead of him that he has a hard time even recalling the topic they were talking about. It didn't help at all that Lucas has turned around to Jens every few minutes, catching him stare at him every time. Lucas had send him a shy smile the third time it happened and Jens was too weak to look away until the teacher called on him and he was at a loss of words. He tried his best to ignore Lucas the rest of the lesson after that.

When the last bell of the day rings, Jens reluctantly gets up from his seat next to Robbe, who sends him an encouraging smile and says: “It's the right choice Jens. Everybody fucks up sometime. He seems honest, I don't think he would have stoop you up if he didn't have a very good reason. I've seen the way he looks at you. There is no way that he didn't want to go on that date with you.”

It does little to actually settle his nerves but it does give him hope. Robbe has always been way too perceptive for his own good and he trusts his best friend's intuition more than his own right now. “Thanks, Robbe,” Jens replies, his voice stronger than he expected considering his nerves. He doesn't even know why he is that nervous. All he has to do is listen to Lucas' explanation and decide if he wants to forgive him.

Robbe nudges his elbow into his side and nods towards the school gate, where Lucas is already standing, looking over at them, fidgeting with the sleeves of his pink jumper which stick out under his jean jacket. He seems even more nervous and that actually helps Jens to calm down a little bit. At least he is not in the position where he has to explain himself. He simply has to listen.

Jens turns to Robbe, says his goodbyes and makes his way over to Lucas, his pulse quickening with every step he gets closer to him. Once he reaches him he doesn't know how to start this conversation but he also thinks that maybe this isn't his responsibility right now. He looks at Lucas expectantly, raises his eyebrows, silently asking him to begin.

“Can we not talk here? We could go to the little park around the corner?” Lucas asks timidly, still fidgeting with his hands, avoiding Jens' gaze. Jens would actually rather not, would like to know sooner rather than later, but he guesses somewhere more private would be more comfortable for both of them. “Sure, lead the way.”

The walk there is unsurprisingly very silent. What is surprising though, is that it's not entirely uncomfortable or awkward. Jens did not realize just how much he missed just being in Lucas' proximity. He was in general a very chill person but, as every ordinary person, still had thoughts and  anxieties haunting him. When he had spend time with Lucas though, his mind was completely quiet. With Lucas everything had felt so easy and uncomplicated and sure. Well, until now. Even though the silence is not uncomfortable, it isn't exactly comforting either, making Jens' thoughts race with possibilities of what Lucas is about to explain to him.

Lucas is leading them to a swing set and sits down on one of the seats, swaying back and forth with his feet on the ground. He looks up at Jens and motions him to sit down next to him on the other swing. Jens does, wanting to turn towards Lucas but choosing against it, thinking maybe it would make it easier for him to tell him, if he doesn't feel like Jens is watching him, maybe choosing the swing set for this exact reason.

“My mom is ill. She has bipolar disorder.”

Whatever Jens was expecting, it definitely wasn't this. Before Sander and Moyo and Robbe, he may have reacted differently, but he learned through them and has at least an idea what this actually means. Lucas has never mentioned his mom before, Jens notices now, not once in the four weeks they know each other now. He only knows that he moved here with his father and he figured if Lucas would want to talk about his mother he would someday tell him. A vague idea is developing in his head about how this relates to their situation now and he feels a sense of regret for how he reacted when Lucas first came to explain. But it's clear to see that the last thing Lucas needs right now is to make it about Jens.

“Okay. And how is she now?”

Lucas turns to him, seeming surprised at that reaction. “Do you know what that means?”

“Yeah, Moyo's mom is bipolar, Sander too. I thought he already told you?” Lucas turns away from Jens again, seeming confused and caught off guard at the revelation. Jens gives him a minute to adjust this to the picture of Sander he is sure Lucas already had in his mind. Out of all the brothers Sander was probably the one closest to him (excluding Jens). “No, he didn't,” Lucas simply states, seeming a bit lost now.

“So, how is your mom?” Jens asks, trying to get the conversation to what is was originally about. Lucas looks up with a calculating gaze as if to try and figure out what to make of Jens' reaction.

“She had a manic episode on Friday. She called me and from the sound of her voice alone I could already tell that she was manic. But what she said made me freak out even more. She said that she misses me, that she doesn't have a car right now but that she could simply walk to Antwerp, that she only called to let me know that she was on her way. I…, I managed to avert her from that idea, promising her that I would make my way over there right now. By the time I arrived she was mostly out of it, but… but then the depression has already hit. Harder than I have ever seen with her before. I tried to take care of her as much as I could but I just … I just couldn't do it alone and I had to call the hospital where she had already stayed once. They came to pick her up on Sunday which is when I went back to Antwerp. I just left her there all alone.”

Lucas' voice sounds thick and heavy with emotions and when Jens looks up, his eyes are filled with  tears, not yet ready to fall. A heavy feeling overcomes Jens, seeing Lucas so sad and overwhelmed with guilt. He wants to reach out, comfort him in any way but he is not sure if Lucas needs that right now. Instead, he tries to recall a conversation he had with Moyo once.

“Lucas, it's not your responsibility to take care of your mother. You did the best you could do in a situation you shouldn't even be put in. I'm sure your mom knows that and wouldn't want you to beat yourself up about something that isn't even your fault. You could not have prevented your mom from getting an episode.”

“It is my fault though, Jens. Don't you understand? She had a manic episode because of me, because she missed me and because I haven't been there to take care of her when she needs me. I –”

The tears have started to roll down Lucas' face. Jens reaches across the distance to take Lucas' hand in his, making him stop mid-sentence, eyes shining with vulnerability.

“Luc. Stop.” Jens tries to make his voice soft and understanding, but firm enough that his words will get through to Lucas. “She is not your job. She is your mom. You shouldn't have to be there just in case she has an episode. It's her illness, not yours. Whatever triggered her episode, it wasn't your fault. You shouldn't be her caretaker.”

Lucas meets his gaze, looking conflicted and looks down again at where Jens rests his hand on his. Jens is about to take his hand away, interpreting this look as discomfort but then Lucas is slowly turning his hand around so they lay palm to palm and gently intertwines their fingers. He shudders at the cold feeling of Lucas' simple silver ring on his skin and his heart starts beating faster but he simply squeezes Lucas' hand softly and sends him a reassuring smile.

“That's what Kes is always saying,” Lucas admits quietly and with his free hand he brushes away the fallen tears on his cheek. Jens smiles at that, who knew Lucas could be this stubborn.

“And we are both very right. This is too much for any teenager to handle.” This wins Jens a soft scoff but there is also a small smile tugging at Lucas' lips so he counts that as a victory.

“How do you know so much about this?”

Jens thinks about how much he wants to say because it doesn't really portray him from his best side but Lucas has been so honest with him and it's the least he could be in return. “Well, I don't know if you know this, but last year Robbe's mom got admitted into a mental health facility. It was pretty bad, I think even worse for Robbe. He had to stay over at my place a lot of times, even before that happened and even though we spend a lot of time together, I didn't really…, well I didn't really notice how much Robbe was suffering. And then the shit with Sander happened and I realized what a shitty friend I have been the last year or so. And then when Moyo told us that his mom is also bipolar I was so shocked that I didn't even know that about one of my best friends. I tried my best to make up for that, tried to show my support, googled a lot and asked Moyo if I could ask him some questions. He basically told me what I told you.”

Lucas' prolonged silence is making him a bit anxious and when he is finally meeting his gaze he looks at him with an expression Jens is not sure how to interpret. But then Lucas smiles fondly, squeezes his hand and says: “You are an amazing friend, Jens.”

Jens has to duck his head to hide the small smile, pleased that Lucas still sees him like this. He has never been good at accepting genuine compliments, ones that are about his personality instead of his appearance. Mostly because he is probably still struggling with the guilt of not being there for his best friend and the whole mess with Jana. “Thanks,” he mumbles softly.

Lucas doesn't respond and the silence stretches on for a few peaceful minutes. They swing gently back and force on the swing, both of them seeming to have no intention of letting go of the other's hand.

“I'm sorry for how I reacted when you came to talk to me yesterday. I should've let you explain. I was…, well, I guess my pride was quite hurt that you stood me up,” Jens admits after a while with a small deprecating laugh and looks over at Lucas even though he is worried about the reaction.

“Jens, you have no idea how much I wanted to go on that date with you. I was over the moon when you asked me. Believe me, the last thing I wanted was to ghost you, I'm the one who is supposed to apologize here,” Lucas says disbelieving, as if Jens doubting Lucas' feelings for him was the most stupidest thing he heard today.

It makes Jens smile uncontrollably, unable to hide it away from Lucas fast enough. He gets up from the swing to stand in front of Lucas, takes his other hand in his as well and pulls at his arms, motioning Lucas to stand up. Lucas looks up at him smiling but with questioning eyes. Jens simply pulls again and doesn't step back when Lucas enters his space. Their faces are close and Jens is tempted to close the distance when his eyes track the motion of Lucas's lips falling open slightly. But then he tears his eyes away from Lucas's lips and moves on to his eyes. They are still a bit wet from the tears and it makes his blue eyes sparkle like sunlight on a clear mountain lake.

“So, about that date. Wanna have a second chance at that tomorrow?” He can see Lucas trace the movement of his lips with his eyes and it makes Jens' pulse quicken. When Lucas finally meets his gaze again he looks hypnotized and a little breathless he asks: “Sorry, what did you say?” It makes Jens laugh, happiness overflowing with how obviously Lucas is distracted by him. He is scared that Lucas is hurt by the laugh he couldn't stop from bubbling out of him but he just looks up at him with a smile that is so beautiful it makes Jens' heart skip a beat. He lets go of one of Lucas' hand to brush a stray curl away from his face and it has the desired effect of the lovely blush spreading over Lucas' cheeks.

“Do you want to go on a date with me tomorrow?” Jens repeats and lets his hand fall to back of Lucas' neck, gently caressing him with his thumb. The smile he gets in return is almost as blinding as the very first time he asked Lucas that question. It makes Jens feel giddy with anticipation.

“Yes. I absolutely want to go on a date with you tomorrow,” Lucas answers and even though Jens was pretty confident that the answer would be yes, the actual confirmation makes him even giddier. This time it's his eyes that can't leave Lucas' lips and he finds himself closing the distance as if pulled in by an irresistible force. Jens' nose brushes against Lucas' and he feels his eyes fluttering shut when he feels a warm gush of breath across his lips. The moment their lips finally touch Jens lets out a quiet satisfied sigh and he barely has time to feel embarrassed about it, because Lucas simply puts his arms around Jens' shoulders and pulls him even closer. The movement of his lips against Jens' is soft yet urgent, careful yet demanding and Jens melts into his arms. He buries his hand in Lucas' hair and gives it an experimental little pull. The reaction he gets nearly makes Jens forget that they are still in public. And even though the playground is empty he gives Lucas a few lingering pecks before he takes a step back, ignoring the quiet sound of protest from the other boy, moving the hand from Lucas' hair to gently stroke his cheekbone.

He can barely take his eyes of Lucas' kiss swollen lips but he knows that he should go now, otherwise he won't have the strength to let go of Lucas. “I should go,” he whispers quietly into the little space between their mouths. It looks like Lucas wants to protest but then he purely gives him a last gentle kiss, nothing more than a soft press of lips and steps out of Jens hold. “I'll see you tomorrow then?”

Jens smiles and nods, takes a step back as well, their hands still holding on to each other not wanting to let go. With each step back he feels their palms sliding together, then their fingers and lastly their thumbs before Jens pulls back for good, making him trip a little bit on his last step back. He sends Lucas a giddy smile, not feeling even slightly embarrassed and Lucas lets out a small huff of laughter, shaking his head slightly before he turns his back on Jens and walks in the direction they came from. Jens watches Lucas' retreating back for a few more seconds before he makes his way home as well. Somehow, he can't stop smiling for the rest of the day.

MCUchallenge here with round 2 of our tournament to determine the favourite Disney+ Marvel series of phase 4!

To give your vote to the show you need to create something on it: a gifset/art/edit - the usual things we take as fills for our prompts, and bring it as a fill. Your creation can be about anything from the series of your choice - a scene, a character, a dynamic, a random set, shooting of the series, actors talking about the series - anything you want. Mention @mcuchallenge in your caption, tag your work #mcuchallengefilled, and that’s it, your favourite show is one point closer to the victory!

thanks for sending this may! ive done this ask game a couple times this year, so in an effort to not duplicate answers from last time, im gonna mix it up a little bit. im going to list 5 of my favorite things ive made/accomplished in 2020.

(in no particular order)

1. ive been making lots of cool music stuff this year. i have managed to start and keep up with a youtube channel for music and covers (dm me if you wanna subscribe and support me). i posted the audio for my waterparks/with confidence mashup on tumblr a while back, and honestly im still very proud of that one. 

2. i went OFF on that altpack editing week event back in october. here are my favorite gifsets i made for it: 1 2 3 4

3. i made the difficult decision to quit a job that i let define me for the past few years, and remove myself from a situation that caused me consistent stress and hardship. as a result, ive been able to spend lots of time with my family this year, and they are the most important people in the world to me.

4. i have maintained a good core group of close friends since my senior year of high school, despite the fact that i moved away for college. now that im back home, we get to hang out and be pals and stuff in person, but im just really proud of myself for keeping that companionship when it was long distance, and for making efforts to stay close with them now that im back.

5. i have managed to exercise every single day for the past 5 months. i have never been that consistent about physical activity in my life. every single day, i do short, fast-paced high intensity exercise (dancing, speedwalking, running, swimming, etc.) and track it by getting a certain amount of points on the google fit app. i think the reason i have been more successful at keeping it up than any other time in my life is because all the other times i tried to start exercising, it was in a deliberate effort to lose weight; i used to count calories and do exercises i didnt enjoy at all because i was so focused on looking different instead of feeling better.

my motivation this time was different; i started because i realized i have a habit of spiraling into Lite Depression no matter my current life situation (busy, unemployed, fat, skinny, single, in a relationship, etc.) and so i tried to make a commitment to add more variation to my life by actively doing things that made me uncomfortable. and as silly as it is, my motivation to exercise was the quote from legally blonde where she says “exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy, and happy people dont shoot their husbands.” when i started exercising, i got rid of the “im burning so many calories right now” thoughts and replaced them with “im getting so many endorphins right now.” i like how i look regardless of the size of my body, and i have for a long time. but this is the first time in my life i have truly exercised as an investment in my own happiness and emotional wellbeing, instead of for physical goals. 

and the best part is, all the other benefits came naturally. because of this lifestyle change im sleeping better, i have less random aches and pains, i eat more foods that give my body energy instead of the ones that make my stomach hurt, i have more stamina, and im able to do more things physically/strength-wise than ive ever been able to do. i know its not a huge accomplishment for other people, but as someone who never even played a sport when i was in school, this is huge. and i genuinely think its a habit i can maintain and cultivate for the rest of my life.

Soonyoung: What Does This Do?

Summary: You may be a full-time streamer but holy shit, your boyfriend still knows nothing about technology.

a/n: I got this idea from a gifset about how Soonyoung is bad with technology, and then @neverknewgrey2016 expanded on it and now this happened. self explanatory. but uh this also wasn’t looked over so if there are mistakes, I’ll be disappointed but not surprised lmao 

"’Did you and Soonyoung meet because he was a fan?’ Are you kidding me?” you snorted after reading the question. “Soonyoung’s lucky he can figure out how to text his mother back! That poor kid can’t work technology for shit. He definitely wasn’t a fan of mine before we met -- we met at a mutual friend’s party, for the record.”

Your boyfriend wasn’t always brought up in stream -- actually, he rarely was because nobody had really seen him. You weren’t all about posting pictures of you and him everywhere, and he never really bothered you when you were streaming because he was afraid of breaking something. But you’d mentioned him because you were late to stream after you went out on a much needed date night with him.

Which maybe was why he was knocking softly on the door to your office.

“Yeah?” you called, removing one headphone from your ear.

“Can I come in?” Soonyoung’s voice asked, sounding like a child asking permission from his mom.

You chuckled, “Yeah, sure.”

Soonyoung cautiously opened the door and peeked inside before opening the door fully and stepping in. Your setup was facing the same wall as the door, so the camera couldn’t catch him. However, your chat was soon blowing up, wondering who it was. You never had people knock on your door while you were streaming. If Soonyoung needed anything, he typically just texted.

But since he was busy working during the day, and you were staying up late during the night, his dinner date with you reminded him just how needy he was for your affection and attention. So he took it upon himself to initialize it, hoping you would let him.

“Are you streaming?” he asked quietly, almost nervous to have your audience hear.

“Yeah, Soonie,” you nodded with another laugh. You glanced down at your chat which was going by so quickly, asking if it was your ‘mysterious’ boyfriend and if they could finally get a reveal. “You wanna come say hi? Chat wants to know you’re not fake.”

“Why would I be fake?” he asked with genuine confusion.

You shrugged, “Some loser that spends too much time on the internet like me would definitely make up a boyfriend.”

“But look at you! How could you--”

“Just get in here!” you laughed, leaning over to grab his hand and tug him into frame.

Looking into your recording, all you could see beside you was from Soonyoung’s stomach down to the tops of his thighs. You giggled, tugging him down into your lap so his cute little face was in view. His eyes glanced over to the recording as well, seeing his own face and his eyes lighting up.

“Hey, that’s me!” he grinned.

“Yeah,” you nodded slowly as your arms went around his waist, “that’s how cameras work, babe.”

“What’s this for?” he asked, pointing to your monitor that kept track of chat, your setting, and other things.

“That’s for everything else since this one has the game on it,” you said, pointing to the one that had your game already loaded up -- the screen your audience saw but with your face on it in a little square off to the side.

Soonyoung was so engrossed in all this technology that he’d never seen, looking around in wonder. Not only did you find it adorable, but chat did, too.

“You guys want me to teach him to play?” you giggled after reading the comments in chat.

Soonyoung’s eyes widened, turning to blink at you, “What? Me?”

“Yeah, you wanna learn?” you grinned, pushing your chair back.

“But I’m bad,” he whined.

“I’ll teach you how to not be bad!”

Instead of protesting, Soonyoung just shrugged and let you do what you wanted. So you took his hands and placed them where they were supposed to be, keeping yours on top of his.

“Okay, ready?” you asked as you got yourself into the game. “You’re gonna do some big brained shit.”

“Some what...?” Soonyoung asked quietly, not understanding. “Watch your language, people are watching. Do you always swear?”

You just giggled in response and started playing the game.

Admittedly, it was a little difficult playing with Soonyoung. He would get too excited or get surprised by something and jerk his hand away from the keyboard or move the mouse where it wasn’t supposed to go. At one point, he pulled the mouse so hard that it flew out of his hand, hit the ground, and the batteries fell out. Needless to say, your team wasn’t too happy with you for that.

But at the end of it, you asked Soonyoung if he wanted to play one on his own. Your chat was super encouraging and wanted to see how he’d hold up by himself.

“I don’t think gaming is for me,” he decided with a sigh. “Even Wonwoo doesn’t let me near him when he’s play-- Ooh, what’s that?”

You laughed softly at how easily distracted your boyfriend could be, putting your arms around his waist again and resting your chin on his shoulder, “That moves when you speak.”

“And that?” he asked, pointing to your camera.

“...That’s a camera, Soonyoung.”

His eyes scanned your setup, landing on the glowing button on your tower. He bent over, his finger already on it when he asked, “What does this do?”

“Soonyoung--!” 

But everything had already gone black, shutting down after he’d pushed the power button. You sighed, forehead dropping against his back.

“That’s the power button...” you told him.

Soonyoung didn’t quiet register what that meant, so you had to explain that he’d shut everything down in the middle of your stream.

“Oh!” he frowned, turning to face you so his legs were hanging off the side of your chair. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to!”

“It’s fine,” you sighed, rubbing his back. Honestly, he was like a little kid when it came to technology -- he didn’t know right from wrong. How could you be mad? Especially when he was so excited about everything. “It’s date night anyway, and I should spend it all with you, shouldn’t I?”

Soonyoung giggled, resting his head on top of yours, “I wouldn’t complain about that!”

So you left your computer off and went with Soonyoung to your bedroom, tweeting from your phone that Soonyoung accidentally shut everything down but you’d decided to spend the rest of the night with him anyway. After that, the only technology you used that night was the TV to watch your favorite movies with your favorite boy.

"palette” gif tutorial

hi everyone!!! so i’ve gotten countless requests to make a tutorial for my lara jean gifset, more specifically this gif:

so today i’ll be showing you how i make this gif right here:

as mentioned in the original post, this whole gifset was inspired by one of my favorite mvs of all time: palette (hence the creative name lmao). i essentially used screenshots of the mv to make my own similar template to work off!

disclaimer: i suck at explaining things, so you’re all gonna have to bear with me and my 100000 screenshots and poor attempts at explaining wtf i’m doing. hopefully you can manage to understand what i’m on about!!

first, screenshot the mv. (timestamp 0:38)

here is my screenshot:

now, we’re gonna open ps and go to file > open to open the screenshot on there. this is my screen rn:

notice how my timeline is there (little box on the right side of the screenshot). we’re going to need the timeline for the gif later. if u don’t see the timeline, go to window > timeline and it should show up!!

time to crop the screenshot. using the crop tool, (left sidebar, 5th icon from the top) remove the black parts of the image (top and bottom) until all you’re left w is the white area. final product:

now it’s time to change the size of the canvas we’re working it so it can be the dimensions we want it to be! go to image > canvas size

a window like this should pop up:

we want our gif to b 540px by 400px, so just fill that out and press ok:

this is what your screen should look like after (aka super zoomed in):

we’re gonna fix that rn!!! making sure the layer (right sidebar) is selected (you can tell it’s selected when it’s in blue), press command + t, which will leave you with this:

okay, so i’ve covered this before in my previous basic gif making tutorial and not much has changed since then aka i’m still shit at attempting to explain wtf i’m doing. BUT basically this part involves using the top bar (pictured below) and changing the % of the W and the H to make the image the amount of zoomed in i want it to b (if that makes sense)

again, i usually just play around w the %s, depending on how zoomed in i want my image or gif to be, its dimensions, etc. the higher the %, the more zoomed in it is. basically, putting in 50% would make it way more zoomed in than 20% and so on. for this, i’ve tried out several % and decided to use 39%, but of course you can pick the % you prefer. so write in your chosen % in these two boxes in the top bar like this:

click the checkmark at the right of the top box and voilà! this is what you should have rn:

see how all the 9 squares fit perfectly inside? wow, powerful. anyway, let’s keep going djfhdkfd. now we’re going to make our own squares aka the squares in which the gif is going to be. start by creating a new layer (at the bottom of the right sidebar, the second to last icon before the trash icon). give it a name so it’s easier to keep track of: i picked s1, since this is going to be the layer where the first square is going to be (and so on). also make sure the new layer is above your image like this:

time to actually make the first square!! select the rectangular marquee tool (left sidebar, 2nd icon from the top) and select one of the squares in the image (113px by 113px) like this:

select the paint bucket tool (left sidebar, under the eraser tool) and make sure the color is set to black (#000000) before you click on the square you just selected. very important: don’t forget to have the s1 layer selected (should be in blue) when you do this or else it will fuck up.

this is what your screen should look like after:

as you can see, we have one square done, but there are 8 more left. right click on your s1 layer in the right sidebar and click on duplicate layer. name that layer s2. making sure the s2 layer is selected, drag it to the place of the second square:

keep doing the same thing until all the squares are covered with black ones like this:

now i’m going to hide the black square layers by clicking on the little eye icon (left of layer) for each of them bc i want to include the little dark pink doodles on my gif as well, but you don’t have to, so if you don’t wanna include it in your gif, you can skip over this part!!

there are technically 3 ways you could do that (well maybe more lol but these 3 are the ones who came to mind:

method #1: use the brush tool to draw your own doodle (or trace over the existing one with a new brush)

method #2: use the magic wand tool to select the doodle and use the brush tool over your selection

or method #3: look up doodles on google and drag them onto your image

i don’t have an ounce of patience rn, so i will b using method #2. select the magic wand tool (left sidebar, 4th icon) and make sure you select the first doodle the best you can. don’t forget to make sure your screenshot (image with the doodle on it) is selected while you select the doodle or it won’t select anything!!! like this:

create a new layer (bottom of the right sidebar, the second to last icon before the trash icon) and again, make sure it’s above all the other layers. with your new layer selected (in blue), select the paint bucket tool (left sidebar, under the eraser tool) and pick a color (i used #e1b5c4). click on your selected doodle. this is what you should have:

repeat for the other doodle with another layer.

final product:

it looks a bit Rough, but hopefully you get the idea?

now we’re going to merge all the little squares into one layer of little squares. if you have doodles, remove the eye icon (left of layers) for both of them to hide them and make sure all of your eyes are there for the square layers. select the s1 layer and then the other layers up to s9 while keeping one finger on the shift button until all the square layers are selected (in blue) like this:

right click on the s1 layer > merge layers. all you should be left with is:

now that this is done, we need to fix the background.

create a new layer that you will drag above the screenshot (layer 0) but under the s9 layer. i named mine bg (background). i want to keep the barcode in the original screenshot, so i won’t select that part. using the rectangular marquee tool (left sidebar, 2nd icon from the top) and with the bg layer selected, draw a square at the right of the bar code so you have this:

with the paint bucket tool (left sidebar, under the eraser tool) and the color set to white (#ffffff), click on the selection.

and that’s your template!!!

now onto making sure the gif is going to actually move properly.

click on the little arrows at the right side of the timeline to expand it until you have this:

and then click on create frame animation. your screen should look like this:

notice how it says once at the bottom of the timeline? make sure to change that to forever, or it will not play:

click on the convert to video timeline icon (the one on the left of the forever). this is what you should be left with:

now, time to make the gif that is going to go there*

*if you have no idea how to make gif and are lost af, i suggest you check out my previous tutorial where i explained this part with more screenshots and more specifically bc i will be more vague here regarding this

also i’ve said this again and again, but remember to ALWAYS USE 720P OR 1080P FOOTAGE WHENEVER POSSIBLE FOR YOUR GIFS or else they will be grainy and extremely unpleasant to work with.

i’ll be using a video from youtube for this. i suggest converto as a converter, it works really well and allows you to download youtube videos in 720p and 1080p!! once you have your footage ready, go to file > import > video frames to layers. use the markers to select the part you wish to gif, and, once you’re happy with your selection, click ok.

to select all the frames, click on the icon on the right of the timeline (4 lines with an arrow) and click on select all frames. then, go to select > all layers in the top bar. everything should be selected (in blue) like this:

now, fixing the speed of the gif.

i’ll personally be using 0.06 here.

click on one of the frames in the timeline > other. write in the speed you chose and then press ok. go to convert to video timeline icon (the one on the left of the forever).

you should have something like this:

go to filter > convert for smart filters:

the time has come to drag your gif to the canvas:

make sure the gif is above the s9 layer (layer with the black squares) like this:

to make our gif fit inside the squares, we’re going to make sure the gif layer is selected. then, press the option (alt) button and click between the gif layer and the s9 layer to create a clipping mask (like this). this is what it does:

this is where i usually play around trying to find a size for my gif that looks nice. press command + t and, like we did earlier, find a % you’re happy with. i’m going to go with 20%. after moving my gif around and making it less zoomed in, it now looks like this:

this is usually where i would sharpen my gif, so, with your gif layer still selected, go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen, and then ok.

these are my settings:

we have to fix the length of the gif, since there’s a lovely limit on this amazing site. i suggest you pick something to gif with not much movement, or you’ll have to make it even shorter. there’s no magic formula, just try not to make it too long, especially since the gif is large in size, so the smaller the better in this situation. this is what i have:

notice how the layers in the timeline are all of different lengths, so make sure you make them all the same like this:

once you have a psd ready, go to file > open and when it loads, drag it onto the canvas, above the gif. i added one of my psd on mine.

for the text on the top right, i can’t remember the exact font i used, so i picked another font different from the original.

and we are DONE!!! all that’s left is to save our gif!! go to file > save for web

SUPER SUPER IMPORTANT: make sure your gif is set to forever in the looping options at the bottom right of the window or else your gif will absolutely not play properly!!

also, CHECK YOUR GIF SIZE (bottom left). with this website changing its gif limit every 2 seconds, better safe than sorry!!

vent away! i don’t want people to feel uncomfortable on the blog or with panel shows in general, but there is always something happening in comedy that is subversive or problematic — and deserves re-evaluation, to put it nicely. sorry for the dumb question, but what are you implying he confirmed? this is the last thing from him i thought was explicit enough to be a not-a-confirmation-but-essentially-a-confirmation. it’s disappointing he keeps the character up when his audiences are over it, comedy audiences and britain’s got talent audiences alike. i don’t want to be a hypocrite; there was definitely a time when i thought the overarching jimmy and david romance was funny and cute, and i would probably still laugh at a good joke in that context because their friendship is fun. i’d be interested to hear what others think, but i assume we’re all in agreement...

hey there! i don’t have enough time to really dedicate to podcasts which is one of the great tragedies of my millennial life atm... that said, that is so cute!!! that would be so fun! i often wonder why d&v don’t work more together. i know david’s been on a bunch of heresy but in general can you believe how long we had to wait to see victoria on wilty again? radio work is probably pretty easy and convenient to do together without too much “look at us we’re married” fanfare that i assume they want to avoid. they talk about each other all the time, and i was so happy to see victoria even open up about barbara recently. so i just wish they would show up on more programmes together!! fingers crossed for shagged married annoyed and....taskmaster 0:-) #agirlcandream

recently i’ve been seeing more gifsets of the scene where Shirou catches Michiru when she fell off that building and it just made me really 🥺🥺🥺 like...Shirou makes sure that any time there’s an impact it only hits him, because he can take it, and if she took even one hit it would probably break several bones or just severely fuck her up internally. and i’m not convinced he didn’t ALSO get hurt that badly, i know he got up and walked it off but like...idk how his immortality works, if he just has rapid healing or if he’s super strong alongside rapid healing...he does bleed during that scene because he gets the cut on his face, but he’s able to just shake/wipe it off quickly, so like he can be hurt but idk how much he can be hurt and how long it lasts...but like owwie man??? i’m sure he still feels the pain of getting beat to shit falling off a fucking skyscraper and i just never really thought about it much before i started Having Feelings and now I’m just like...oof...and idk how much in canon shipping i’m going to do (i tend to prefer to stick to outside canon because it just gives me a lot more flexibility to do whatever scenarios and interactions i want without having to keep track of canon) but i could see him going to Nova afterwards and she notices he’s stumbling a little and clearly not feeling well and i’m not sure how much would be left for her to patch up, but maybe she kisses his scars/healing areas and stuff...and she just holds him and soothes him and maybe if he goes into beast mode she can rub his ears and kiss his nose and just run her fingers through his BIG FLUFF fur because hey even if he is fine, i think i’d still be hurting pretty bad after experiencing something like that...i guess we also don’t know what his pain tolerance is like either 🤔🤔 but he was clearly in some kind of pain/does feel it to a certain extent and i just...got emotional about it hiflesjfilejfs i get extra emo thinking about Shirou and Nova just being soft and nice together and so content and happy and in LOVE like damn...these fools....it’s so cute i just LOVE IT i wanna think about cute stuff for them all the time but brain machine fucking BROKE when i actually try to come up with anything coherent it’s always just like “Shirou big and fluffy...Good” and then cuddles and pets and the scenarios trickle off into nothing hfeilsjfelsifes but that could just be The Mindset i’m in right now, things are a lot less organized and more fuzzy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

on a much lighter note i just really love Raymond Animal Cr0ssing so fucking much!! he’s such a cutie and i’ve been having so much fun working on my island and thinking about the different things we/he and Nova would do together...i want him to visit her house and see her in all her cute outfits and they could go on museum dates and visit uncharted islands together or just sit on the beach holding hands with their tails intertwined...he has the cutest fucking peets and smile and he’s kind of a dork but i can see Nova liking to ruffle that little tuft of hair he has or complementing his glasses and him blushing and playing with her ears and just teasing her in general...like god most of my selfships get pretty on the angst side at one point or another but idk if my Raymond ship will ever get like that outside of like, general emotional problems i guess...like i read a comic someone did about Raymond wanting to spice up his life and stop living his normal monotonous city routine and him finally getting that new lease on life starting over on this random island with a bunch of supportive and motivated neighbors that just want to make it feel like a welcoming and happy community...and i love my current villagers so much, they’re so nice to me and so wonderful and if i ever get Raymond to join their ranks i can finally die happy because that’s one of the only things i desperately want in that game lmao...i could see one of my villagers throwing a party (they did actually do that for my bday 🥺😭 it was so sweet and wonderful) and everyone going and hanging out and Raymond and Nova go together and everyone on the island knows they’re a couple and everyone’s just really happy for them and they’re all friends that hang out and encourage each other and help each other with establishing their lives/little community on this simple little island...y’all i love Animal Cr0ssing and Raymond so much i know i started this part of my rant with that same line but seriously i’m losing it i love it all so much i’m so glad to have this stuff in my life fheislfkeslks

not TOO much to say about Tsuchigomori, i guess he isn’t even really a furry bf but i tend to lump him in with Shirou and Raymond because I started liking them all around the same time and just like “claimed” them as my new f/os for the season...but now i’m like genuinely starting to really care about them and want them to stick around oh no 🥺🥺😳 i just get stupid soft about Tsuchigomori really having a soft spot for Nova and vice versa...i figure he doesn’t get to interact with too many people because like lol he’s a ghost stuck in this school with the other wonders but he also chose to be there and continue to watch over Hanako, presumably because he feels some measure of guilt about Hanako’s death, which is just the vibe i get and since i’m slowly making my way through the manga i don’t have a lot of context from there either so most of my thoughts/feelings are just speculative at this point...but i feel like having someone new around would be like a breath of fresh air and although he bears the weight of knowing how she died while also keeping it from her so she doesn’t have to suffer with that knowledge, just knowing that she’s happy, and even more that she’s happy with him/because of him, makes me so ghisljflejfse i bet it’s so special man!!! why tf did i have to catch feelings like this i just thought he was hot but now things are like super tragic and emotional and complex and i love it all so much even though pain!!! so much pain! the good news is though it’s not all pain because Nova brings a lot of lightheartedness and happiness into Tsuchigomori’s life and he makes her feel secure and protected...she gets up to all sorts of shenanigans with the other ghosts or kids sometimes ofc but at the end of the day she’s Tsuchigomori’s partner and she listens to him and helps him like a good assistant and when he starts to realize he actually likes being able to rely on her, and not having to be alone in that library all the time...i know he kind of already had Yako too but at least he can influence Nova’s attitude more reliably and also kiss her, like...kind of an upgrade if you ask me lmao also random stupid thought but Nova sitting on his shoulders playing with the chain he has on his glasses...just batting them around and when they’re alone it’s fine and he thinks it’s cute and let’s her but if other people are around he’s like “we have to be professional stop being a fucking cat!!” and she’s like “bitch i am a fucking cat!!!” it’s so good IT’S SO GOOD

damn anyway i don’t really know where i was going with this but i have a lot of feelings and i wanted to share them so yeah thank you for reading if you made it this far sorry for being so ranty and incoherent this is what happens when i fixate and have feelings but i don’t really know what to do with those feelings because i can’t write as quickly or articulately as i’d like so the scenarios that just play and evolve constantly in my head bounce around until i’m restless and almost can’t take it and then i make a post like this to try and make myself feel a little better and it sort of helps until like an hour from now when my thoughts are running around in frantic lovey dovey circles all over again orz
