Okay I'm supposed to be studying but like I'm having thoughts about the song that's playing right now.
But Eight by Sleeping At Last? Major Legend vibes
"I was just a kid who grew up strong enough
To pick this armor up
And suddenly it fit
God, that was so long ago, long ago, long ago"
He was a child and has been doing this for (in my hc) a decade now. He did not choose this life, but the moment Fable called out to him and he found his Uncle dying? No going back.
"Now you won't see all that I have to lose
And all that I've lost in the fight to protect it
I won't let you in, I swore never again
I can't afford, no, I refuse to be rejected"
This is especially perfect for anyone who wants to go into Legend learning to love again with the Chain, be it after Marin or anyone else he's loved and lost. He won't let himself do it, and if you (like me) subscribe to the idea that he's a sweetheart at his core, he can't afford to keep losing people because at some point he's going to break.
"I'm just a kid who grew up scared enough
To hold the door shut
And bury my innocence
But here's a map, here's a shovel"
He's hidden himself under the mask of a gruff, harsh, grizzled veteran, but the kid who was buried since he took up that sword and shield is still there... and if you want, if you like, he's given the Chain the map (glimpses of his true self) and the shovel (his trust) to find it and help him... I don't know, be a kid again? Be himself again?
"For the innocent, for the vulnerable
And I'll show up on the front lines with a purpose
And I'll give all I have, I'll give my blood, give my sweat
An ocean of tears will spill for what is broken"
Though this part is actually more like two different stanzas, which individually are still great, these together describe him as a hero so well. Again and again, he's gone to the front lines and he's given everything he has to protect the innocent and the vulnerable. At least in the Oracles manga, we see his determination to protect those who can't fight their battles and he gladly fights beside those who can.
Really I just have thoughts about this song and how well it fits Legend.

eggyrock's guide to being a respectful person in fanfiction spaces because some of yall are are behaving in ways that are so aggressively uncouth
if you don't like a fic, keep it to yourself. no one cares.
if you don't like an aspect of a fic (character, plot line, etc), keep it to yourself. no one cares.
if you really want an author to update a story, tell them how much you love it! do not hound them for updates or ask them when the next update is. pressure does not equal motivation! you're just being annoying.
if an author is talking abt one fic that they're excited abt, don't bother them about another one! there is nothing more disheartening that being excited about x fic and then hearing someone go "what about y fic!" see above
writers have shit to do. writers are not "lazy" for not updating every day. you're insane. i need you to understand that's an insane thing to say to someone.
remember to BE KIND!!!!!! we can all have a little laugh and a giggle together but at the end of the day, we're strangers on the internet. it's such weirdo behavior to get in a strangers inbox and talk to them like a freak
thanks for coming!

Okay so this is probably gonna turn into a whole rant ™️
You guys were so accepting with me exploring my pronouns and it feels so good and so loving to be in a community like this 💕
Here’s the thing -
For years, I’ve thought about changing my name because Caroline never really felt like my name, it didnt feel like it was me.
And then at work, I was helping out at another store and people thought my name was Maya because one of the guys got it wrong from the beginning. So it became a standing joke that they’d call me Maya.
And I started to respond to it and I just, I don’t know, I can’t explain it but it just felt like it was supposed to find me? Like that name was supposed to find me.
I’m not changing it legally just yet, I want to see how it feels. But I was hoping that you guys would (once again) help me out with figuring out a new thing about me, if it’s right or not 🥺
So for now, my preferred name is Maya 🫶🏻
If you made it thus far, you’re a real one 💕
Tagging some friends because id like to share it with yall 🩵

So I went to the wiki page for the henghill Bullet & Brain mission of 2.2 looking for some dialogue I had missed and
a) I found something incredibly tasty that slotted into some other thoughts I'd been having, more on that on another day, and
b) I saw this super fun little trivia at the bottom, which!
I knew Penacony characters like Boothill took a lot of inspirations from old movies, but I didn't realize it was even in his and Dan Heng's relationship, that's so cool!!
It fits them very well, it's such a fun reference. "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was an old buddy Western film (from 1969- nice) about a pair of outlaws. Butch Cassidy was the leader of a gang, and described as clever, affable, and talkative. Meanwhile, his closest companion, the Sundance Kid, was known as a man of few words.
Cassidy's original birth name was much more plain, but similar to Boothill, he took on a new moniker when he became an outlaw. "Cassidy" had been the last name of his beloved mentor, who taught him how to shoot and ride. And Sundance Kid was known as he was because Sundance was the name of his hometown, and it was the only place that had ever managed to catch and jail him, back when he'd been younger (also similar to Dan Heng, but ouch).
These two stick together like glue throughout the length of the film- through Cassidy's leadership of the gang being challenged, through a train robbery gone wrong, through being pursued by mercenaries, and even through fleeing to Bolivia and trying to start over together.
I don't want to say too much more, since the mission title is referencing one specific movie that I've never seen. I kinda wanna watch it now, though, just to see the inspiration that went into Boothill and Dan Heng and how they get along. I just think it's really sweet that these two were literally made to be the best of bros, how lovely is that. 💕
