can’t believe there’s no balcony neighbors to friends to lovers obikin au
so like imagine like anakin and obi-wan live in apartments that face each other and are separated by a narrrow alleyway, so when both are out on their own balconies, they can pretty easily see each other and talk. they don’t but they could is the thing, it’s just a weird sort of line to step over, being in someone’s space so intimately but not being invited there, witnessing someone’s life move along like an unstoppable ocean current, but not being in the water with them.
anakin knows what book obi-wan is reading and which newspaper he subscribes to. obi-wan knows anakin’s favored brand of beer and how he sounds when he sings his baby to sleep. anakin has overheard many arguments between obi-wan and his lawyer and his estranged wife about the divorce case. they’re physically close enough that when anakin steps out one summer night, obi-wan can wordlessly pass him a cigarette over the divide. “i don’t smoke normally,” obi-wan says, with a flick of his wrist to shake loose the ash. “i know,” anakin says, because he does. “divorce was finalized yesterday,” obi-wan says. “i know,” anakin says, because he does. “my name’s obi-wan,” obi-wan says. “anakin,” anakin says because he hadn’t known that.

Kind of a sequel to this post based off AU art done by @chiliger
-------
"...nearly made him jump 20 feet into the air. He was not amused."
The laughter that filled the air was loud enough to cover the snort of amusement that Cody let out as he sipped his drink.
"I hope you got a vid of that, Kenobi never gets scared as far as I know." Wolffe sat forward with a grin, his elongated canines startling some nearby natborns that were passing by 79's. It wasn't often a lot of the commanders were on Coruscant at the same time, and in honor they were gifted the expansive table that overlooked the street and hyperlane outside the bar.
"Oh yea, copied it the second he stalked off to his quarters." Cody chuckled, sitting back with a crack of his neck.
"So, he still talk to you like a nervous shiny when he sees your teeth?" Bly smirked, stealing the last of the bar food that Fox had ordered some time ago.
"Not as much, but if he thinks I don't feel the way he watches me all the time, he's mistaken."
"So...are you going to take your shot?" Fox took a swig of his drink, quite firmly in the drunk-but-not-overly-so department. "Because if not..."
"Don't..." Cody growled, and bares his teeth at Fox as the others giggle and laugh at the display.
"Please, Foxy here has his own prey." Rex snickered from his corner of the table, using Ponds as a support to stay upright. He may or may not have had more than a few drinks, and may or may not be finding this entire situation hilarious. "More than one I've heard too?" Rex is sent into some proper laughter when Fox's much louder growl and bared teeth silences a few nearby tables, officers and various troopers freezing as they seemingly await some sort of standoff before realizing it had nothing to do to them. A quick glanced shows that Fox is focused on someone at his table and not on any of them, and slowly conversation resumes save the occasional look their way.
It was never wise to be around a higher ranked officer when they're facing off over someone they had feelings for.
"Careful Rex, might end up arrested until you're sober." Bly snickered, and Fox snorts in amusement as he relaxes back into his seat.
"I am just Fox right now, and I am going to keep drinking until I forget what the GAR is." Fox waved for a fresh round, Cody patting his shoulder with a nod.
"Then let's keep the stories coming eh? Maybe scare some of the others again. Should get you plenty drunk eh?"
Fox grinned, and raised his glass with a hum.
By the end of the night they're the last ones in 79's, so drunk and unaware the music had died down and people had left they failed to see a group of amused men sitting at the main bar.
"How much longer do you think it'll take?" Anakin Skywalker grinned, sipping a water as he watched the commanders burst into laughter about something.
"A few minutes, Ponds appears to be slowly falling asleep." Plo Koon hummed, using the bar as a seat in his meditation pose.
"I do hope so." Obi-Wan Kenobi was trying very hard not to blush as he listened to Cody talk about an encounter they had shared a few weeks ago. Mace Windu was staring at him, and he was going to be damned if he let the man have a single inch of blackmail material via his reaction.
"What, all the glittering teeth over there setting you off?" Anakin snorted into his drink, jumping out of the way when a bar stool is thrown in his direction. The noise attracted the attention of the drunken crew, who finally seemed to realize that there were Jetti in a very empty bar, and attempt to stand at attention.
Instead, Bly and Wolffe trip over their own feet, and without Fox and Rex grabbing them, they would have fallen flat on their faces.
"At ease, at ease." Plo chuckled, moving to stand as the group stumble their way down towards the bar. "We thought you may want some assistance, you all are quite inebriated."
"That means drunk." Bly snickered, and everyone but Wolffe starts giggling as their Jetti watch on with some soft chuckles among them.
"Come, you can stay in the Temple tonight, it's much closer than your barracks." Windu waved his hand to start turning off the last of the lighting the owners had left on, Plo and Anakin becoming some support for the drunk men to remain upright. Cody suspiciously was the closest to Obi-Wan, hugging the man from behind and all but melding them together.
"Hello sir." Obi-Wan is very aware that Cody is dragging his feet, the others already out the door by the time the two of them had made it even halfway across the room. "Didn't see you waiting for us."
"It's quite alright." Obi-Wan coughed, nearly jumping again when Cody presses his face against his neck. "Cody?"
"Mhm?"
"May I ask why you're uh, so close to my neck?" Obi-Wan bites his tongue when he feels Cody hum, the noise rumbling in his chest.
"No reason." The clone purred, and mumbles something Obi-Wan can't catch.
"Come, there should be a vehicle for us to use." Obi-Wan knows the others have already gone, and is grateful that Mace in particular isn't there to tease him. He goes to say something else, but whatever words that were forming in his mind are suddenly scattered when Cody presses a kiss to his neck. The man is letting his canines purposefully drag as he kisses a trail along Obi-Wan's shoulder, pushing away thoughts of wanting to do more as he finally pulls away from his flustered general.
"Coming general?" The drunken man grinned, stepping around so he could get a look at the wide-eyed Jetti.
"....you are an absolute bastard." Obi-Wan's voice is strained as the two finally leave the bar, Obi-Wan locking the door as Cody stumbles to the nearby speeder. "Passenger seat Comm-dear."
Now it was his turn to see the way Cody looked back, reminding him of a fresh-faced solider the way he stumbles into the passenger side of the speeder.
Obi-Wan is grinning the entire ride to the Temple, and Cody has his face in his hands at being the one to be an embarrassed mess upon their arrival.
Oh well, there's always next time.

i made "the 501st goes to Target", "the disaster lineage goes to Target", "The Clone Wars Squad ™ (+Satine) goes to Target", "The Rebels go to Target", "The Original Trilogy Gang Goes To Target", and now I give you
The Driods of Star Wars go to Target (chaos ensues):
R2d2: well, he’s been here many times before. He acts like he owns the place. He rolls around the aisles showing bb8 and D-O all the “cool” spots and best ways to cause chaos. Bb8 and D-O chirp excitedly, because if uncle r2 says its okay, then it must be, right?
This is a long way of saying r2 is the best bad influence ever.
oh man, the chaos this little droid causes. Surprisingly, he doesn’t get banned (only bc 3po and Ap-5 talk the manager out of it), but it’s a close one.
r2 runs around screaming, throwing things at his friends. he and chopper WREAK havoc hiding under shelves and pretending to be large plastic versions of themselves (they are, after all, galactic heroes. of COURSE target has plastic figurines of them, some may even be life sized). once they are hidden, they jump out at whoever walks through, friends and strangers alike.
seriously, it’s a miracle they don’t get kicked out.
r2 also rolls around holding a giant yoga ball above his head while chasing AP-5, who is swearing like a pilot.
He and 3po go around the store once everything quiets down. On occasion r2 would project a holo-recording of anakin or leia or obi-wan or luke and it would be like they were really there with them. and at that moment, they were. the memories may be tinged with blue and static, but it was there all the same.
r2 would coo softly when he saw the faces of those he loves laughing and loving him right back. but then the holo-vid ends. and he and 3po are alone once again.
3po: he showed bb8 and and D-O how to shop responsibly and where to find the best deals. He, Ap-5, and k2so all tell their respective crews the odds for different reasons, which they rant about to each other
Ap-5 and k2so love each other’s sarcasm, but
3po is like their older brother and so they make sure he understands their jokes.
3po makes a sarcastic comment to r2 after hanging out with Ap-5 and k2so and r2 didn’t know if he should break the two droids or cheer. (he short circuited instead).
he did the shopping, of course. after all, he was the oldest, and he knew exactly what to buy and where to buy it. bb8 and D-O excitedly rolled after him and took mental notes on how 3po was shopping, before getting distracted and rolling off to play w Az.
3po didn’t mind, he was happy to watch the two young droids play.
r2 came over to 3po after the shopping was done and he was just looking around. at first, 3po was wary, because he thought his companion was trying to get him involved in a prank, but nevertheless, shuffled after r2.
they want from hall to hall, looking at holo-recordings that r2 had saved of their friends. the last one r2 played was in the hair product aisle, and he projected a video of obi-wan and anakin bickering over shampoo and over if obi-wan uses that fancy pomade or not. then ahsoka comes over and they start arguing over 3-in-one shampoo (anakin is all for it, obi wan is appalled, ahsoka doesn’t even have hair and she knows that 3-in-one is horrible).
the recording ends and the images freezes and so do their friends. the smiles are still on their faces except for when little bits of static disrupt the image.
3po and r2 stand looking at the images for a long time. 3po’s hand resting on the dome of his silver little friends. they wished the smiles in real life could have stayed on their friends' faces as long as they did in the images frozen in time.
Bb8: he had never been to a target before. Poe preferred space-costco, so this was a new experience for bb8. D-O had never gone either, so bb8 and his friend raced around the hallways, ricocheting off of the shelves as they rounded counters.
3po taught bb8 where to find the best deals on groceries, even though bb8 wouldn't actually need to buy food for himself. r2 the reminded 3po that astromechs don’t tend to buy groceries for their owners, but bb8 wanted to learn anyway.
D-O got bored and rolled off with r-2 after a bit, but bb8 spent nearly a half hour eagerly listening to Professor 3po.
at the end of the day, he used his allowance to buy Poe a target gift card, just to have an excuse to come back with him.
K2s0: he jokes around with the employees. They make jokes about idiotic customers and how stupid people can be. The employees say that some of the worst customers are the obnoxious ones, to which k2s0 replies that he is unfortunately good friends with a lot of those customers.
As if on cue, r2 and chopper come screaming around the corner, with bb8 and D-O on their heels.
“Like them,” one of the cashiers say.
K2so just sighs and gives them each a handful of credits and then jogs off to catch his friends.
Later, he runs into a very grumpy manager who k2so has seen yelling at employees and making them cry for doing nothing.
So, naturally, k2so trolls him big time. He pretends to joke around with him the same way he did with the cashiers, but this time he is absolutely making fun of him. Once the manager catches on, k2s0 bluntly admits to trolling him, tells him his shoes are dumb, and then books it out of the store, carrying D-O underhis arm.
When they all get home, he lectures them all on being more well behaved because they were making the employee’s lives harder. He did this in a very sarcastic way, of course. It was like if space-john mulaney gave you a lecture.
To his credit, r2 and chopper were a little quieter the next time they went to the store.
AP-5: wants to spend as little time in the store as possible. He plans to get the groceries and g o. He doesn't want to be around people or droids or anything that can hold a conversation, he just wants to get a box of bolts to fix Sabine's bedroom doorway with, and some instant space-foods since The Ghost was going to be traveling in hyperspace for a really long jump. But when is he ever that lucky?
The version AP-5 tells Hera is that Chopper was running around screaming (which, to his credit, is not untrue), and that he had to intervene.
The truth is that AP-5 helped chopper create a chaos prank because he knew it was going to happen either way, and he wanted to mitigate the circumstances. He told sabine and kanan the truth when they cornered him bc they didn’t believe him (neither did hera, but she knew he would never fess up to her bc she would make him babysit as punishment. again).
The actual truth was that AP-5 came up with the idea, which he and chopper then executed, and later came up with a worse version that AP supposedly mitigated.
They said chopper was going to just knock down a bunch of shelves.
I n s t e a d he would take things from people’s cart when they weren't looking while Ap-5 distracted them, and then like put them on a shelf later, or in their cart right as they are loading stuff onto the belt.
When he wasn’t making customers question their sanity, his cargo manifest instincts kicked in. he found himself taking inventory of the whole store though multiple rounds, and would tell the employees when he noticed a shelf ran out of a popular item, much to their severe annoyance.
But he had fun.
He also bought a stuffed space-bird creature, the ones that surrounded him when he was floating and space and having a *main character moment*.
Chopper: chaos. Only chaos.
He spends his time scaring the living starlights out of people, screaming (crying, throwing up), freaking out customers by moving their items around, being a bad influence on his younger brothers (bb8 and D-O), buying himself a new cat toy to add to his now-too-big collection, and buying a birthday present for Hera. the wholesomeness ruined his chaotic facade, but hey, he has to stay the favorite kid somehow.
K2sO loves chop. Or, rather, he likes watching chopper cause chaos, until chopper upsets his new target-employee-besties, and then chopper gets yelled at by k2.
It made it into chopper’s top five most terrifying experiences, right under when Ezra once told Luke that chopper was like the r2 of the ghost, and r2 almost strangled ezra. It was hard for even chopper to tell who was more insulted: r2 or chopper (or luke tbh).
He and r2 are literal besties, despite r2 being like nearly two decades older and technically in charge. Chopper did at one point ask if they could steal a mannequin to put in a closet and scare ezra, and r2 said no.
However, he promised he would carry Ap-5 to a closet on the ghost when he was in recharge cycle to make up for it.
Chopper also bought ezra a can that when you open it a fake snake pops out, just in case the Ap-5 plan never follows through.
D-O: baby’s first shopping excursion. The little droid didn’t go out much before, especially not on shopping trips. The sith in him makes him a little chaotic, but that also be bc of his big brother chopper and uncle r2.
yeah, it’s definitely because of chopper and r2.
D-O is eager to learn anything, everything he can. 3po is happy to teach him about stores and deals and shopping. bb8 was interested for a short while before running off with r2, but D-O remained FASCINATED for as long as 3po was talking.
He is technically older than bb8, but everyone forgets this and treats him like the baby, including bb8.
D-O doesn’t mind.
AZ: so, AZ not only didn’t know Target existed, he had ever heard of the concept of a store before. Everything he ever needed was on Kamino without fail, and it wasn’t in his programming to inquire where it came from. He doesn't know what anything is so he constantly asks questions about everything, even items that he literally has seen before (like bowls or shirts). He would ask why they were here and not on Kamino, and if Tipoca City got their supplies from target.
No one knew how to tell AZ that it doesn’t really matter, because it’s not like Tipoca City needs much of anything anymore.
He gets a little overwhelmed in the best way at all the cool stuff. He zooms around, picking up one thing only to drop it again to go look at something else that caught his eye. 3po trailed behind him to out everything back properly, and K2so followed AZ to make sure he didn’t overload his circuits, and to catch him if he did.
Az was dismayed at the medical aisle section, especially at the % bacta in the ointments and band-aids and whatnot. He thought it was an outrage that there was so little bacta in the disinfectant and bandages, and asked how this would heal a blaster wound.
K2so then informed him that most people wouldn’t go to the target pharmacy to treat a blaster wound.
After the initial ten minutes of chaos and questions, AZ settled down and quietly hovered around, before buying a kid’s t-shirt that was meant for a birthday, thought AZ wasn’t sure why it resonated with him so much since the shirt was plain and only had a single number on it:

Star Wars Fic Recs Part the Fourth
[first fic rec list] [second fic rec list] [third fic rec list]
Been a few weeks since I've done one of these and I've read/reread some great fics recently so let me share them with you now!
And I Fear Nothing by @maiseey (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 11/? chapters, 43.4k words) Picture this: I am sitting in the parking lot of my local grocery store, having just bought a load of perishables. I get the email that And I Fear Nothing has just been updated. What do I do: run home to preserve the food I just paid for, or sit in my car and read the new chapter right away? The answer is obvious, of course! That is exactly the situation I found myself in last week when chapter 11 dropped and I did in fact choose to read it in spite of my groceries, that's how much I love this fic. In this fic, Obi-Wan and Cody are raising Luke and Leia together on Tatooine, and they've got so much trauma, and new + old wounds, and love for each other and the children they're raising that it both warms your heart and tears it apart. But that's not all, this fic expands beyond just the small home in the middle of the Jundland Wastes and explores Ahsoka and Rex and their journey to de-chip as many clones as possible. I love this fic because it doesn't shy away from hard conversations, but it does it in a way that makes you want to cry and give everyone involved a hug. Plus, there are some fantastic minor clone characters that you will 100% want to die for by the time you finish reading. Cannot recommend this fic enough.
Obligate by @communistkenobi (gen, one-shot, 23.9k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin & Ahsoka) Just when you thought the Deception arc didn't have enough pain, this AU sees Anakin fake his death instead of Obi-Wan! My heart is physically ripped out of my chest just thinking about this fic, so imagine what it'd do to you actually reading it. Anything @communistkenobi writes is so well-done and I've gone through his works list on AO3 multiple times, but somehow I missed this when it was first posted and it was like a wonderfully delightful surprise when I ran into it the other day. So, so good. Highly recommend!
Moirai by damonkey (gen, WIP, 4/? chapters, 9.2k words, Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon) All I can really say about this fic without giving anything away is that it's a Phantom Menace AU and it's so intriguing. The author is very deliberate in having a vague summary and only tagging as the story progresses, so I truly have no idea what's ahead of me but it's so -- as I said -- intriguing that I'm happy to strap into the ride. Ahhhh I'm skimming through the fic and there are so many things I want to mention but I don't want to give anything away!
Almost Home by @frunbuns (gen, one-shot, 5.2k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) You know, every time I recc a Modern AU I'm like "I don't usually like Modern AUs but..." and then proceed to gush over the fic. I went and checked and I've recced a Modern AU on almost every fic rec list I've made! Maybe I do like Modern AUs?? Or maybe the fics are just that good -- and this fic is definitely that good. In this fic, the first of a planned series of fics set in a modern Star Wars universe, Obi-Wan is reeling from the loss of his adoptive father Qui-Gon and has to care for a young Anakin. Ooooooof. Definitely hits you right in the feels, this one. Love the non-chronological storytelling too!
Naked and Not Paid by biscuitlevitation (Obi-Wan/212th Attack Battalion, WIP, 6/? chapters, 14.9k words) This fic is essentially ~15k words of the clones thirsting over Obi-Wan and it is the funniest thing I have read all year. I'm not kidding, I just read the last chapter which features space-church-lady!Anakin and I laughed so hard I cried. I'm cracking up just thinking about it. I promise you will have a good time reading this fic. And if the tag "Obi-Wan Kenobi/212th Attack Battalion" puts you off, let me just say there's no sex in this at all, it's just thirst. And it's hilarious.
Full Disclosure by @trixree (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 2/3 chapters, 7.4k words) ROTS AU in which the Force bonds Obi-Wan has formed with a few members of the 212th save them from the chip and Order 66, but it doesn't stop the devastation from happening on a mass scale and they all have to try and deal with Mustafar and Luke and Leia. This fic manages to be both extremely soft and extremely gut-wrenching at the same time, and I wish I could leave more kudos. Full disclosure (get it, little pun there for ya), I will be dying until the final chapter comes out. Time to go listen to Olivia Rodrigo and reread this fic and just live in my feels.
Thirteen Days by @ewanmcgregorismyhomeboy12 (gen, one-shot, 4.1k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) Post-Zygerria arc, Anakin dresses an unconscious Obi-Wan's injuries and struggles. Ahhhh this fic is one of my favorite Zygerria arc fics, and given that that's my favorite arc, that's saying a lot! Obi-Wan doesn't say a word in this fic, but his presence is very much there, if you know what I mean. And the descriptions of injuries here are pretty graphic at times, but it's so good that you'll want to keep reading even if you have to do it through the fingers covering your eyes.
brother, let me be your shelter by @kenobilovebot (gen, one-shot, 1.6k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) This fic packs so much tenderness in a short amount of words. It covers an AU in which Obi-Wan's issues from Zigoola never really resolve, and Anakin finds out when -- well, you'll just have to read for yourself. I love Zigoola because it is such an excellent whumpfest for poor Obi-Wan and this fic is great for that, but also highlights Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship.
A Padawan At War (Again) series by @itstimeforstarwars (gen, 3 parts, 100k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) In this series, Obi-Wan and Anakin are transported from The Phantom Menace into the Clone Wars and have to deal with all that comes with it: fighting wars, discovering a Padawan you never knew you had, dueling your grandmaster who apparently is a Sith Lord now(?!) and all the rest. This series is a great ride, and I look forward to every update. Note: the first fic in this series is a one-shot that was expanded upon, and it drops you in media res. The second fic is a prequel that shows how they got to that point, and the third fic is the sequel that shows what comes after.
The Desert Storm series by @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning (complete, 24 parts, 1.144 million words) There has never been a better time to start reading this series. If you read Star Wars fics on AO3, then you've definitely seen the Desert Storm series before, but maybe you were daunted by the high word count, or felt like it would be too much effort to go all the way to the beginning of a series but couldn't just jump in halfway. Let me tell you, it's 100% worth it, and now is the perfect time to read this series if you haven't already. This series is complete, but it turns out it's all just Act 1 of the larger story, which will continue in the Rise and Fall series. @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning is taking a break right now before starting the next series, so you have ample time to get caught up, and YOU REALLY SHOULD. Let me tell you, this series had me on the edge of my seat more than any other piece of media I can remember. With the most recent chapters, where everything that has been building for a million words came to a head, I would get so worked up after each chapter that beforehand I would have to queue up calming things to watch afterwards, and it still wouldn't be enough and I'd be too full of feelings to get anything done the rest of the day. Seriously, this series is amazing. And if you HAVE read it before but haven't reread, now is the perfect time for that as well. I've reread this series multiple times and it's so rewarding because the author sprinkled in so many hints as to what will come that you only understand the second (or third) time around. I know I've written a lot for this rec but this is a long series and it deserves it. Go read! Now!
If you like any of these fics, please consider reblogging so they can get more exposure! And if you noticed I missed someone’s Tumblr account, or linked the wrong one, please let me know!

STAR WARS CRACK FIC IDEA TIME
So hondo, having built back up his gang a little bit, decides to help the galaxy a little bit, in honor of the Jedi, and his best friend Kenobi! That bit about the Path operating on florum? That wasn’t entirely a lie. And here’s how it started!
So after Order 66, Jedi Padawan Húxiān (pronounced Who-Shin) is saved from death from her clones by a few villagers who find her after the troopers shoot her. After realizing that she can’t stay with them when she awakes from her coma several months later, she steals her Starfighter from the clones and jumps to a random system while getting chased by clone fighters. She sustains damage during the jump, and barely manages to land on florum. Hondo sees her ship come down and goes to check it out. He comes up on her and she’s a mess. Because the republic is gone, and so are the Jedi. She can’t feel any of them in the force anymore and she doesn’t know what to do.
Hondo is greedy, but he’s not so completely cruel as to see a poor girl and turn her over to the empire. No! They won’t pay him anything for her and will arrest him too! And use the crystal in her lightsaber for some stupid weapon! No, He’s going to take her ship and lightsaber and sell her to whoever will buy her! …is what he would have done if the Empire hasn’t completely destroyed most of the criminal underworld. So his only options are crimson dawn, black sun and the hutts. And none of them are going to take her without swindling or double crossing him. So what to do…
Well, he could always just..keep her around? I mean, having a Jedi, traumatized as this one is; is a rare commodity these days! So he decides to keep her around. He lets her rest on florrum for a while, while also telling her (heavily embellished) stories of his encounters with Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker. He even went toe to toe with General Grievous! He captured Count Dooku!
Eventually Hondo turns to his last option for profit: Smuggling. Except by Húxiān’s request, he’s smuggling food and medicine to worlds the empire is starving. And what do you know? People are willing to pay more for bread and ration packs than spice! He doesn’t even have to overcharge upsell! This “bail organa” guy is a real sucker for his “upstanding criminal” act and pays through the nose to get those shipments delivered! Heh, sucker. What? No! He’s not “secretly enjoying helping people for once!” He’s purely doing this for profit and to feed his men and living moral compass Jedi!

Okay okay okay so imagine Reader is abducted by the separatists because she ( or nb reader ) is a very well loved member of the senate. So obviously Anakin goes to save her, but his idiot plan gets him captured as well so then it's up to Reader to talk her way out of this mess, get to her idiot boyfriend, free him and then both of them try to make it out alive. Bonus points for Obi-Wan looking very tired and sick of Anakin's ideas in the background. What do you think?
Anakin Skywalker x Fem!Reader ~ Rescue Operations?
Summary: After the Reader is captured by the Separatists, Anakin rushes to save her. When this doesn’t work out, the Reader has to get her and her boyfriend out of this mess.
Warnings: Language, whump, one scene where the Reader gets beat up, Reader is a badass, Anakin is completely in love with his badass girlfriend and we love that for him
Words: 3.8k
A/N: Catherine, my love!! I’m sorry this took me so long, I have nothing to say for myself other than my poor organization skills. But I’m obsessed with this request, I hope I did it justice <3
Tumblr media
gif credit (x)
You groaned as you opened your eyes and attempted to shake the drowsiness that seemed to cling to your very bones. You blinked, trying to get your bearings and remember what had happened. You were preparing for your speech at the Senate, trying to pass a peace treaty between the Republic and some smaller territories that were debating joining the fight against the Separatists. You’d been fighting for support for the treaty for months and you finally had the chance to give one last speech before the vote.
You’d been pacing in your Coruscant apartment, practicing the speech for your boyfriend a million times. After you finished your recitation, you exited the room, needing to get your notes that you’d seemed to misplace. So you went into your office and… nothing.
Why couldn’t you remember after that?! You opened the door to your office, walked inside, and…
You sighed as you came back to the present, leaning against the wall behind you and looking around. You were clearly in a cell of some sort and the Separatists were almost certainly behind this. You were still in your Senate attire, although it had been thoroughly scuffed up, and they’d taken your datapad and other communication devices. You felt around your boot and smiled. Your knife was still there. They must have assumed you wouldn’t be carrying a weapon to your speech and not done a thorough enough check. Whatever the reason, you were thanking the Maker it was still there.
Back in Coruscant, Anakin was walking the Temple halls in a crazed state. When you didn’t show up for your speech, he immediately panicked. He knew how important this treaty was for you and the entire Republic; you’d been going over it for forever and there is no way you’d just blow it off without telling anyone. The rest of the Senate was also concerned. You’d grown up in one of the poorer districts and, thus, had a sense of relatability and humility that most were drawn to. Whether or not they agreed with your policies, almost everyone could understand that you always kept the interest of the people at the forefront of your mind.
When Obi-Wan walked up to him with a ripped piece of your clothes and your scattered and crumpled notes, Anakin felt his heart drop.
“It was the Separatists. They must have knocked her out in her office and escaped through the vents.”
Upon seeing his absolutely heartbroken expression, Obi-Wan added, “We’ll get her back, Anakin. I promise.”
Anakin could only nod, ideas for a plan to save you already running round his head.
You’d been in this kriffing cell for four days now. Or maybe it was five? You were desperately trying to keep your wits about you but it was so hard; they brought you a tiny ration of food and water once a day and it was not near enough to keep your strength up. You’d spent your time trying to carve your way through the bars but your knife was no match and you quickly gave up, not wanting to dull the blade. You’d found a loose brick hidden around the floor and used the knife to cut it out, allowing you to hide your weapon under it on the off chance they searched you again.
You tried to think of a plan to escape but they hadn’t even opened your door yet. There was no way you could get out by yourself and, until someone came in that you could attack, it was pointless to even try. They kept you in complete darkness and silence, no way to tell how much time had passed aside from the daily rations. You assumed you were on a Separatist base but that proved unhelpful; they were widespread and the cell held no defining features of climate or location. You had tried calling out to see if anyone else was around. Each time, you were met with your own echo.
You stilled, hearing footsteps approach you. A Separatist guard opened your cell door, roughly pulling you out. You yelped, legs not cooperating after so long of sitting in the cramped cell. He led you into another room that was barely brighter than your own. Sizing up the guard, you felt fear creep in. No matter how hard you tried to banish your anxieties, knowing they’d only serve to lessen your already shaken focus, it was sometimes impossible.
“Tell us which planets are deserting.” He commanded.
You met his stare evenly, refusing to let your fear betray you. There was absolutely no chance you’d tell him anything. As soon as the Separatists learned which planets were thinking about joining the Republic, they’d send armies to wipe them out immediately. You refused to let that happen.
“Fine. Be that way.” The man pulled his fist back and sent it into your cheek, the impact sending sparks of pain throughout your entire body. He brought his foot up, kicking you in the gut and you fell harshly onto the floor. He grabbed you by your hair, hoisting up your body as if it were a ragdoll. You gathered your strength and spit in his face, enjoying the way his smug look disappeared. In retaliation, he slammed you into the wall, the impact making stars cloud your vision.
The man released you and you fell, your consciousness already starting to detach from your body. You tried to reason with yourself, hoping logic would aid you. This is a trauma response. I’m not going to die. My body can take this. I will black out, but I will wake up again. They’re not going to kill me. They need me alive. I’m not going to die. I’m not going to die. Somehow, the hardest part is this was banishing the thoughts of that beautiful boy from your head. You knew that if you allowed yourself to think of him, to fathom how he would blame himself should this be your end, you would give in.
Instead, you focussed on the physical pain you felt, on the rage you channeled to this guard. You hated how weak you felt, how exhausted you were. You allowed your mind to hone in on all the ways you could hurt this man, given you had your full strength. You let yourself hate yourself, appalled at how you couldn’t even fight back. With every punch he threw at you, you went further into your head, into the one place this man couldn’t touch. Eventually, your mind started spinning from dehydration, pain, and overexertion. All you could do was curl into a fetal position and hope it somehow stopped.
“What do you mean you’re going to find her?” Obi-Wan said, running after Anakin.
“It’s been days, Obi-Wan, days. There are only so many Separatist bases in the galaxy and Y/N’s on one of them.”
“Anakin, don’t you think they’ve planned for a rescue mission?! This is Senator L/N we’re talking about! And they took her right before the vote, this was clearly a thought-out attack, stop acting like it’s simple!”
“It is simple! Those Separatist assholes have Y/N. And it’s been days. What if she thinks we forgot about her? What if she thinks we’ve given up? They could be doing fucking anything to her and I’m not going to let her stay there for another minute!”
“Anakin-” Obi-Wan began but Anakin waved him off.
“I’m sorry, Master. But if the Council won’t do anything, I will.”
“Anakin, the Council is trying! They just don’t have enough troops right now to send a full rescue mission after one Senator. They just want a few more days, then some troops should be back from their missions and you can have your full battalion.” Obi-Wan took a breath and lowered his voice, empathy for his friend clear in his words. “I know you love her. I want her back, too, you know. I’ve grown quite fond of her; her friendship is quite dear to me. All I’m asking is you be careful and think this through.”
“Believe me, I have thought this through. I wouldn’t do anything to put her in danger, we both know that. And while a few days doesn’t seem like much to the Council, we’ve seen the harm these Separatists can inflict in far less. Listen, it might not be the strongest plan I’ve ever made but, if it’s between a semi-formed plan and none at all, the choice is already made.”
With that, Anakin jumped into his ship and took off into the night. Obi-Wan sighed, leaning his head into his palm. He knew how much you meant to him and he knew of Anakin’s frustration with the Council. They moved slowly, wanting to figure out every angle before jumping into a decision. While Anakin was a brilliant strategist, he tended to act impulsively when someone he loved was in danger. As Anakin traveled further and further from Coruscant, the older Jedi could only hope that the both of you returned home quickly and safely.
Anakin looked at his ship’s display and cursed when he realized he was low on fuel. He’d been piloting for hours and there was still no sign of you. He was searching out for you with the Force and, still, nothing. Finally, he felt a faint energy pulse through the Force. He followed it to what was supposed to be an old abandoned Separatist base, concerned by how weak your lifeforce felt.
He parked the ship and got out carefully, trying not to alert anyone to his presence. He pulled out his lightsaber but was careful not to ignite it. He saw an open door and ran through it, relief blinding him as he felt your energy grow stronger with each step he took. He turned the corner and saw a crumpled body on the floor of a tiny cell.
No, Anakin thought, it can’t be her.
Without thinking, Anakin ignited his lightsaber, wanting to use the light to discern if the figure was truly you. The noise bounced off the walls and startled you awake. He mentally cursed himself and instinctively turned off the saber, not missing the even louder noise it made with it turned off. He inwardly facepalmed, realizing if he hadn’t alerted the guards before, they sure as hell knew now.
You blinked groggily, wincing at your immense injuries and bruises. You remembered passing out while that asshole beat you and now you-
Wait, You thought, is that a fucking lightsaber?
You knew you must have heard it wrong, there’s no way the Council would have approved a relief mission this quickly. Further, there is no way it would consist of just one Jedi.
Suddenly, the lightsaber re-lit, illuminating your boyfriend’s face. His determined expression grew stronger as he noticed the 10 guards surrounding him and pointing their blasters directly at his head. You smiled. He could take out ten guards with his eyes closed. You called to him in shock, hardly believing your eyes. He looked at you and immediately widened his eyes as he saw a guard come up behind you and point a blaster directly at you from outside your cell.
“Lightsaber on the floor, Jedi, or the girl dies.” The guard growled.
He looked at you in anguish and you could tell he was already beating himself up for “messing up” your escape plan. You shook your head, hoping he understood your message: this isn’t your fault.
“Anakin don’t-” You couldn’t even finish the sentence before his weapon was on the floor. He put his hands on his head. As they grabbed him, you stood in helpless silence as they threw him in the cell beside you. They locked the doors and, once again, you were in darkness.
You desperately crawled to the edge of your cell, trying to reach out to him. He was doing the same and when you felt his fingertips against yours, you almost started sobbing. You weren’t alone anymore.
“You came for me.” Your voice was soft, disbelief lacing your words.
“Of course I did, my love.”
Then, as if everything finally registered in your brain, you reached out and tried to slap his arm. “Anakin, what about the Council? They’ll kill you when they realize you went on a rescue mission, alone, and without approval! Ani, the only thing keeping me going in here was knowing that you were safe! And now you’ve gotten yourself thrown right next to me, no weapons, no light, no food, no water, no escape! What the fuck are we going to do?!”
Anakin had opened and closed his mouth multiple times throughout your speech, trying to find a way to plead his case but was left without one.
“I just wanted to save you.” The grief in his voice made you sigh and take a step back. This was your Anakin you were talking about. Your safety was his priority, always. Besides, doing all this because he was afraid for you? You couldn’t possibly stay mad. You smiled, despite yourself. Anakin. You thought, slightly shaking your head.
“Fuck, I love you. Is it selfish that there’s a small part of me that’s glad you’re here with me?” You said, breaking the silence.
Anakin breathed out a sigh of relief, glad you weren’t upset with him anymore. “Not at all, my love. So long as it isn’t bad that my least favorite part of this is not being able to see or kiss you properly because of this damn darkness.”
You chuckled, lacing your fingers with his once again. “You wouldn’t want to see me right now.”
Anakin froze. “Y/N? What are you talking about?” His voice was serious, clipped. He knew you would try and make it seem less than it was. You winced, realizing there was no way to lie your way out of this one.
“Just what the Separatists would call aggressive negotiations, I presume.”
“How bad?”
“It’s fine, Ani, I promise. Let’s just focus on getting out of here, okay?”
Anakin took a deep breath, collecting himself. “Alright. But as soon as we get back you’re going to a medical droid.”
You groaned. “Anakin I hate-”
“I know you hate the medical droids. But that’s only because they always rat you out when you try and lie to me about the extensiveness of your injuries.”
“You lie about how bad your injuries are, too! Remember that one time you came back from Kamino?!”
Anakin laughed, despite himself. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?”
“You were literally bleeding from the head! And you said, and I quote, ‘it’s just a scratch’” Every time you thought back to that day, you were incredulous.
“Alright, alright! Let’s just focus on getting out of here.”
“That’s my line!”
“Y/N,” He warned.
You smiled. Maker, you missed him. You honestly didn’t think that anyone else would have you laughing while you were beaten and captured.
“Okay. What’s the plan?” Anakin said, back to the matter at hand.
You lowered your voice, leaning toward his cell so you could talk without being heard. “I snuck a knife in with me and I’ve been able to keep it a secret. Now that you’re here, it might actually come in handy. The problem was that I couldn’t stab anyone because no one would come into the cell. I need you to get them here. Push them against the side of your cell, the one closest to me, and I’ll stab them. Then while they’re hurt, you run out, unlatch my cell, and we’ll go.”
“I’m dating a fucking genius!” You could just about hear the smile in his voice.
You smirked. All things considered, you were pretty proud of yourself.
“When do you want to do this?”
“They bring daily food and water rations in the morning, I think? I can’t exactly tell what time it is, they’ve kept it so dark and isolated. Regardless, the next time they come by I need you to get them in here. They normally just leave the food outside and push it under the door.”
Anakin could hear the disorientation in your words and wanted nothing more than to be able to see you, to be able to hold you and reassure you that it would all be alright.
“Okay, angel. Got it.”
“Anakin?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you for coming to get me. It’s really good to hear your voice.”
“Always, my love.”
Both of you silenced when you heard those footsteps. You smiled for the first time as you heard them. We’re going to get out of here.
“Yeah, that’s a great idea, Y/N! This brick in here is loose!” Anakin announced loudly. You bit your cheek to suppress a smile as you watched Anakin catch the guard’s attention.
“What did you say, Jedi?!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Anakin responded, dramatically feigning innocence.
The guard huffed and you internally cheered as he roughly opened the door. He walked over to your boyfriend, keeping the blaster pointed at him. As soon as the guard’s attention shifted to the “loose” brick, Anakin used the force to knock the blaster out of his hand and push him against the wall of the cell where you slashed his Achilles tendons.
The guard howled in pain and you knew you had to work quickly if you were to get out of here before the rest of the Separatists found you. Anakin fumbled with the latch on your cell, the immense darkness making it difficult. Finally, he got it open and ushered you out. The both of you took off in a run and he gripped your hand with his metal one as you did so.
You immediately stopped as you felt his hand roughly pulled from yours.
“We’ve got you now, Skywalker” The guard said.
“Y/N, you ready?”
You blinked, unsure what he was referring to. Then, you heard an object whipping through the air and on instinct shot your hand out, catching it. You ignited Anakin’s lightsaber that he had summoned to you with the Force, it’s signature buzz making you feel powerful beyond words.
The light caught you off guard and you squinted until your eyes adjusted. You saw Anakin held back by two guards. Hearing faint footsteps, you took off in a run. Anakin ducked as you swung wildly, hitting and taking out both guards.
“You done holding us up?” You said, extending your hand toward him once more and passing him his lightsaber.
Anakin smiled, accepting it. “My sincerest apologies.”
You both ran, hand-in-hand, until you finally made it to the exit.
“What?” You said, as Anakin stopped abruptly and looked at you, panicked.
“The ship! It’s out of fuel!”
“It’s what?!”
“I-” Anakin and you stared at each other, flickers of doubt coming into your gaze. You can’t believe that you’d been able to escape for nothing.
“Anakin! Y/N!”
You whipped your head around at the sound and were met with another ship a few meters down, Obi-Wan piloting it.
“Well? Are you coming, or what?” You and Anakin looked at each other in shock before taking off in a sprint, one guard now close behind you.
He started shooting and Anakin pulled out his lightsaber, deflecting some of the shots. As he focused on that, you pulled your knife back out of your boot and sent it flying into the guard’s chest, effectively stopping his pursuit.
Anakin smirked at you, awestruck. You shrugged before jumping into the ship, extending your arm to Anakin and helping to pull him up with you. You entered and immediately leaned against the wall of the ship, relief coursing through you. You laughed and Anakin joined in. He immediately pulled you into him, kissing you hard.
He broke away from the kiss, looking at you with adoration. “You are a fucking badass!! You’ve never even held a lightsaber and between that and your fucking tiny knife you took out four guards!! I didn’t even get any! I’m not going to lie, Y/N, I’m a bit jealous.”
You laughed, leaning into him but wincing. As the adrenaline wore off, your pain was suddenly quite palpable. He noticed and pulled back, scanning your face and body.
His smile fell as the extent of your injuries sunk in. Your busted cheek, scratched face, and ripped clothing that exposed some of your many bruises across your torso and limbs were overwhelming.
“You kids alright in there?” Obi-Wan said, walking in from the cockpit. His smile died on his face as well as he took in your form.
“I’m alright, guys. It’s not as bad as it looks.” You said dismissively.
“That doesn’t look like nothing!” Anakin shot back.
Obi-Wan looked at you apologetically. “Anakin’s right, Y/N. Please, rest. We’ll be back to Coruscant soon.”
Coruscant! The Senate! “My speech!! Fuck, I had to present my speech! I’ve been gone, what, a week? They’ve probably already voted, Kriff.”
Obi-Wan shook his head. “They decided to suspend the vote until you were back, Senator. They truly care for you and your policies.”
Your heart swelled at Obi-Wan’s words. You looked into Anakin’s eyes and saw that he agreed with the statement full heartedly. He took your hand and gently ran his thumb up and down its back.
“Rest, my love.” He whispered to you, coaxing you to lie down on the coach and pulling off his Jedi cloak. He wrapped it around you as a makeshift blanket, smiling as you pulled it closer to you and drifted off.
Obi-Wan walked up to Anakin and placed his hand on his shoulder. “Let’s leave her be, okay?”
“I don’t want her to wake up when I’m not here.”
The elder Jedi nodded in understanding. “She’s exhausted, she won’t awaken until we get back to the temple, I assure you. And if she does, you’ll just be in the other room.”
Anakin looked at you once more before smoothing the hair back from your face and gently placing a kiss on your forehead. He let his palm run down your cheek before he finally pulled himself away and walked into the cockpit with Obi-Wan.
“So, how did you plan pan out?”
Anakin looked at his former Master, unamused. “I think you already know. How’d you know to come get us, anyway?”
“Well, when you didn’t come back or even attempt to contact the Council for over a day I assumed something had happened. I tracked your ship.”
Anakin nodded. “If not for Y/N, we’d probably both be dead.”
Obi-Wan laughed. “I heard! Four guards?! You’ve found yourself a good one.”
Anakin smiled. No words were needed, everyone knew that was completely and utterly true.

this is for @meep-morp-s for a tumblr prompt, (which was taken from these prompts) and i know is very very late. and then i wrote it and saved it to my drafts… and then tumblr, being the absolute hellsite that it is, ate it. so: lots of yelling (internally) on my end, but fortunately i wrote the prompt in my google docs so i didn’t have to rewrite the whole thing from scratch.
Okay, so here’s the thing: Cody actually likes protocol.
He knows many of his brothers only use it because it’s what’s been taught to them from day one, but Cody likes the way it gives his life structure. Even in the most unfortunate, stressful situations, protocol helps to keep things somewhat organized.
It gives him a sense of control, and Cody likes maintaining some degree of control over his life and his decisions.
Which is why, right now in his current situation, Cody is feeling very out of his element.
When it comes to skirmishes and battles and wars, it’s a given that situations can become very stressful very quickly.
Cody is used to stress. He’s used to overwhelming odds and panic. The training ingrained in him allows him to stay up for forty-eight hours straight without any issues, it allows him to go days without food if need be, and it certainly allows him to keep a cool head when things go sideways.
Because everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and already has gone wrong at least a dozen times over.
The battlefield itself is pure chaos. Clouds of dirt swirl around them and visibility is a thing of the past.
Cody only gets a warning by the hollow feeling in the ground.
“Obi-Wan!” he bellows, throwing an arm out instinctively. His hand grasps the collar of his General’s robes, and Cody doesn’t think twice about man-handling the man back.
An explosion goes off then, throwing the two — and several other clones — back with such ferocity that Cody only has time to think, This is it.
By some miracle, he is not dead by the time he hits the ground. The landing is still harsh and unforgiving. Cody’s going to be supporting some nasty bruises if he makes it out of this battle alive, but right now he’s thankful that he is, in fact, still breathing.
General Kenobi is panting beside him. “Thank you, Cody.”
“Of course, General.” It’s an automatic reply, one he’s done a thousand times, but for some reason the word feels wrong coming off his tongue.
Then it hits him full force, and Cody forgets that there are bigger things happening around him because he just addressed his General informally.
He just broke protocol.
Horrified, Cody speaks before he knows what he’s saying. “I’m sorry!”
General Kenobi frowns at him. “Whatever for?”
And Cody’s mind short-circuits, because General Kenobi doesn’t seem to realize the grave error he just made. That, or he simply doesn’t care.
Cody’s not sure which is worse.
“I should’ve noticed the bomb sooner. It won’t happen again.”
His face is flushed with embarrassment and shame. He just lied to his superior. It’s a very punishable offense, and Cody silently berates himself for being so careless.
“You don’t need to apologize for that, Cody.” General Kenobi says simply. “You did what needed to be done.”
Then he jumps to his feet and bounds off, likely to pull off some reckless antics that’ll no doubt either go really badly or spectacularly well.
Cody gets up more slowly, blasters in hand, and vows to never make such a mistake again.
Then he leaps back into the foray.

Light in The Dark (2)
Tumblr media
Modern Obi-Wan Kenobi x (F) Reader | Part 1 | Part 3 | Part 4 |
Word Count: 3,901 Words
Summary: The first few days of recovering at home have come and gone, and you’re finding it rather difficult to be on your own, for many reasons. You have an unexpected check up from your resident doctor, and you meet his roommate. Or well.. Roommates.
Triggers: Pregnancy mention, masturbation mention
You hated being in your apartment even before you were confined to the four walls. There had at one point been a roommate, and there was evidence of that in the spare bedroom of your bare bones flat. It had two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and small living area and a poor excuse of a balcony. It did the job though, and that’s pretty much all you had needed. Now, here in every waking moment, reading over transcripts and drafts of books that had been dropped off by your coworker, the silence was beyond clear. Noises you’d not seemingly known about before caused you to jump - hell, the dishwasher had woken you from your sleeping trance on the couch after dozing off to some reruns of Hell’s Kitchen.
It’d been about four days since you’d last spoken to another person, and you hated it. Maneuvering around the apartment wasn’t bad, but getting food, cooking, laundry, dishes, showering - it all seemed impossible now. Which is why there are plates piling up on your coffee table, blankets and pillows thrown about in an effort to find a comfortable spot at your desk - what was a couch to some was your office. At the end of the day, you’d try to unwind with something, and most times, you’d found yourself writing.
It was the real reason you’d taken the publishing job, despite knowing it’d never lead to you publishing any of your own work. Your own best friends didn’t even know about your work… considering it’s content. Romance novels, with idealistic couples, and scenarios you’ve pictured a million times over. Steamy moments between a pair of lovers… Okay, So you’re a bit of a hopeless romantic. You’d downloaded as many dating apps as there were available, and taken too many chances with far too many blind dates. It’s how you’d ended up with this cursed injury in the first place. Sure, you’d told Obi-Wan it’d been a friend you were with, but your friend at work paired you with one of her husband’s friends… and clearly it hadn’t gone too well after the trip in the literal gutter.
After working relentlessly all day on books that made you snore, you’re amazed you can continue to type out a playful conversation between your characters. Typing away at the document on your laptop, your head tilts as the scene slowly becomes more involved. Hands drifting over bare skin, sloppy kisses, clothes tossed about. You stop when you realize how frustrated you are, sitting and practically panting. You save the document, and set the device on the coffee table, looking at your watch. You had about two hours before you were probably gonna go to bed.. And you’re alone. Might as well indulge. It took far longer to get to your bedroom, to get in bed and get comfortable. This stupid cast you’d been stuck with had put you in pajama shorts most of the time - until this morning you said screw it. You lived alone, pants were optional. Rolling over to your nightstand, you find the neon colored item and click the button, letting it roar to life in your hand. One of the beautiful things about being alone was the fact you didn’t have to hide, didn’t need to be so secretive about it. Sure, the adult fiction you’ve got drafted on your computer has a passcode to the file - but no one’s got access to this time that you had with yourself.
Or so you thought. You’d been enjoying yourself for almost twenty minutes now, when you’re interrupted by smashing fists on your front door. A groan as you turn off the toy, struggling to get some sort of clothing on - deciding on your robe instead - and scrambling to the door. You’re still panting when you finally get the deadbolt lock open and are greeted with the last person you’d expected. It seems as though he’s just as surprised when the door swings on its hinges, as bushy eyebrows raise. Your name comes from his lips with a laugh. “Doctor Kenobi.” You give an awkward smile pulling the robe on your body a little tighter.
“I um… I apologize. It just… sounded as though you were hurt…?” He starts and you can feel the rush of heat in your face in embarrassment. Maker. Were you that loud?
“Oh… oh. No, no… I’m… I’m okay.” You’re swallowing the now very large lump in your throat as he continues to look over you.
“Are… are you sure?” He looks uneasy, as though he doesn’t believe you. And you don’t blame him, considering your state. Heavily breathing, probably looking like a hot mess, especially since your endeavors hadn’t really been fruitful… your name pops back into the air again. “Are you safe?”
This time your eyes widen and you nod. “Yes! Absolutely, it’s… just me in here.” You nod slowly and he clears his throat.
“You can say no, but do you mind if I… do a quick evaluation? It would just be good reassurance for me. Clear my conscience and all…” You look at him - now realizing he’s fitted in a dark grey set of scrubs. Was he on the way to work?
“I- no, no, if you wish.” You give a slow nod, backing yourself into the apartment and sitting at one of your counter stools. He shuts the door behind him, following over with ease.
“Aside from the breathing, the sweat… I’m assuming you have a valid reason for these kinds of symptoms?” He asks, gingerly taking your wrist, while raising his own, fingers pressing to the pulse point to take your heart rate.
“Yes. I’m an adult. With a fair amount of time on her hands.” You comment, looking to him and seeing his gaze to you change into a great amount of understanding.
“Ah.” His hands retreat once he’s conducted what he was after and gives a nod. “I apologize then… for… interrupting.” He shifts on his feet before rubbing at his face. “I suppose I am just on edge, as I had a double shift and am now just getting back home. Still in the work mindset.” Obi-Wan looks at you with a sympathetic grin before clapping his hands together. “With that, your heart rate is just fine, all things considered.” With hands still clasped, you catch blue eyes looking around the apartment, turning back to you. “Finding everything alright?” It’s a direct connection to the dirt and grime that’s accumulated around you in the past four or five days. You let out a low groan, looking around you.
“Yeah… I… don’t have anyone who can come over to help me out. Almost everyone works all day and then heads off home and doesn’t want to help. I bet I could get someone in here this weekend to tidy up-” He cuts you off.
“By then I fear that you’ll have tripped on a pile of blankets and hit your head.” He comments, a slight tinge of humor behind it. You give a snicker before nodding.
“Honestly, seems like a high possibility. I should just get myself settled on the couch and call it a day.” You shrug, looking to him as he pockets his hands.
“If you would like, I am off of work tomorrow. I could come down and give you a hand.” You smile at him and shake your head.
“Doctor, I really don’t think-”
“Ben.” He cuts you off again. “Call me Ben. Doctor is rather formal, considering we are neighbors.” A slow nod of your head comes before looking at him with surprise.
“Isn’t your name Obi-Wan, though?” You quiz and he nods.
“Yes, look at how observant you are.” He taunts. “My friends and my father call me Ben. While Obi-Wan is a wonderful name, it is a bit of a mouthful.”
“You said it, not me.” A laugh leaves you before you continue on your statement again. “Ben, I don’t want to bother you. Especially if you just came off of back-to-back shifts. You should take your day off.” The blonde then shakes his head.
“It wouldn’t be a bother. Anakin works all day tomorrow and I will be by myself otherwise. So, if you’d like company I can come down.”
“Please?” It leaves your mouth a little aggressively and you laugh. “Sorry. I’m just so used to seeing other people during the day and… it’s been a change.” He chuckles all the same and nods.
“Certainly. I’ll be down for lunch? I’ll bring something, so you don’t have to worry about it, and we can… organize.” He offers a glance around the room again before nodding as a yawn comes to his features. “Alright, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, for now… my bed calls to me. Sorry again for the interruption.” He moves to the door and you follow slowly as you need to lock the door.
The next afternoon, you wouldn’t lie - you picked out your outfit and made yourself a lot more put together than you had been in recent days, in anticipation of Ben’s visit. You’d went about your morning rather easily, coffee in one hand that you probably spilled somewhere on the floor on the way to your kitchen table, but not really caring enough. You had hardwood for a reason, right?
You’d sat with a binder of loose leaf paper of writings, a highlighter and red pen in hand as you read through when you got a much less aggressive knock on the door this time. “It’s open!” You call out, eyes still trained on the page, picking up the paper clip you used to mark your place. The door opened and shut, hearing the male speaking about something, you finally look up. You’re not entirely sure what you’d been expecting, but the sight you’re met with isn’t what it had been. Instead of joggers, his button up from the ER or the scrubs from last night, a pair of black jeans coupled with a navy sweatshirt sat on his body, white tennis shoes tying it together. Oh, and of course the slim brown and black glasses that sat on the bridge of his nose. You knew you’d tried to look more presentable but… he seemed as though he was trying to impress. He wore that to clean your apartment? It now occurs to you that he’s said something and you’ve been analyzing the clothing on his body instead. “I-I’m sorry, I was in the middle of a sentence. What was that?” You’re able to pass it off and he nods.
“You… could’ve stopped by this morning?” You offer with an amused smile.
“Oh, I didn’t want to bother you. If you don’t eat some of this, I’m sure Anakin will. Maker knows he has the appetite of a teenager.” He’d gone out of his way to make you comfortable, and it was sweet.
“I mean, I appreciate the effort. Truly.” You smile, moving to the counter as he unpacks the items from the reusable bag he’d carried in. After explaining your preferences to him, you sit as he starts to make the meal, letting you guide him around your kitchen to find utensils and pans, plates and bowls as needed.
“So, what were you working on?” He asks, letting the sandwich sizzle in the pan in front of him on the stove. You perk up at the question and look over to the kitchen table where the binder sat. You’re quick to give a shrug before returning your gaze to him.
“Reading over this financing book. It’s thrilling, really, taxes and money saving methods, oh a real page turner.” You joke, seeing a grin come to his features.
“So, you sit here and read all day?” A shake of your head answers his question, but you go on to explain.
“Usually I would be at the office or at the park or even on the subway. But,” you lift your ankle up a little so he can see it from behind the counter, “not much of an option at the moment.” He laughs and looks at you with a sympathetic grin.
“Did you reach out to the doctor I recommended?” He suggests, before flipping the sandwich over in the pan.
“No, I have not. It kind of slipped my mind.” That was a lie, you didn’t forget. You simply were avoiding another unavoidable invoice, that you knew would only add insult to a literal injury.
“Well he’s rather popular, and very good at his job. So I would call soon, otherwise you might not get an appointment.” Obi-wan advises before flipping the sandwich onto a plate, and resting it on the counter in front of you. “Now eat.” He offers and you smile, ripping the sandwich in two before taking a bite.
With your mouth full you begin to speak. “Do you enjoy cooking? Or is this an anomaly?” You question before he nods as he prepares his own two sandwiches.
“I do, but I don’t ever have the energy to do so when I come home. There are plenty of take out containers that have gone directly in the trash chute to hide the truth.” He jokes, a smile on his features. “I noticed that there’s another room here?” He says it almost like a question, but it’s a factual statement. You nod, one hand hiding your mouth as you chew, the other setting the food back on the plate.
“Yes. I had a roommate once upon a time, however, it didn’t work out.” You’d lived with your college roommate for a while, but she quickly found someone and moved in with her as their relationship took off. You were happy for her and her girlfriend, but being alone in the apartment truly sucked, and you missed her.
“Sorry to hear that. Have you thought about finding a new one?” He asks as he grabs you a glass of water, leaving you to smile at his actions.
“Yeah, but I just haven’t acted on it. Between work and dates, it’s been kind of hard.” You shrug and you look at him when he seems quiet. His expression on his face is that of a smirk, glancing at you every now and then. “What?” You ask with a laugh.
“Dates?” It’s quick, and you hadn’t even noticed that you’d said it. You huff, leaning back into the barstool softly before shaking your head and playing with the plate in front of you.
“Um, yeah. I’ve had quite a few dates the past few weeks. It’s actually how I ended up with my injury. That friend? Blind date.” You explain as a wide smile, well more of a smirk, is nestled into Ben’s features. You let your hands fall to the sides of the plate with a look of surprise on your features. “What!” He shakes his head as he plates his own meal and leaning into the counter once the stove is off, picking up the sandwich in his hand.
“Nothing. I just expected a girl like yourself to have a partner already. You know, you’re quick witted, sassy, cunning, not to mention charming.” He shrugs before taking a bite and you match his actions before shaking your head.
“Well maybe the context clues of me being alone in the ER at 5 in the morning should’ve given that away.” You snicker as another bite is taken from the crisp sandwich. Ben has a triangle of sandwich in his mouth now, looking at his phone, swiping diligently. You can’t help but watch him cautiously. The device looks so small in his palm, steady fingers gripping to the sides, blue eyes trained on the screen diligently. It makes you wonder how he managed to slip under your radar. His hand raises to finish the bite now, a new and wider smirk on his features when he reveals the screen to you, only to see your face staring back at you. He’d managed to find your profile on a dating app. Your head rolls back and a groan leaves your mouth despite the laugh coming from it. You could’ve sworn you’d deleted that.
“What do we have here?” He coos, taking a paper towel and wiping his lips before pulling the screen back to face him, reading out your name and age before reading your bio. “Love to get lost in a good book, the city and your eyes. Smooth. Very smooth.” The sentence is trailed with a laugh and you watch him.
And by the maker above: he swipes right.
You didn’t bring it up. Not as he washes your dishes and continues to talk about a study he read about the successes in research for a particular case he’d been working. Or when he helps you to the couch before starting to organize the mess you’ve created, asking where things belong every now and then when the answer is clear. And certainly not when he offers to start a load of laundry, and you have to kindly turn him down. But it never leaves your mind. It’d be rude of you to go through the process of downloading the app back on your phone, resetting the password because you most definitely don’t remember it, and then swiping through potential matches until you find his profile. Very rude. So instead, you offer him a seat when the apartment is clean. And you talk about life for a while, what kind of books you both prefer, and why music is slowly becoming mindless entertainment. Ben lets out a laugh, leaning back into the armchair with ease as you smile at him. “My, I don’t think I’ve had such an easy conversation, in a while, at least.” He grins, looking at you fondly. “I mean, I also don’t ever give myself the chance; so perhaps you’ve opened my eyes to how little I really relax now.” He sighs, setting the glass of water down on the pristine table in front of him. He rolls his wrist over to look at the time and frowns. You match it when you realize what it meant.
“All good things come to an end?” You ask, slowly standing on your good foot, bringing both crutches under your arms. Ben rises as well, taking the glass and moving to the kitchen with it, emptying it in the sink and putting it in the dishwasher, before meeting you at the door. “As they should. Despite what they say, you can have too much of a good thing, you know.” He offers, sliding a bag over his shoulder of the ingredients he’d brought to your apartment.
“Oh really?” You ask, opening the door while the keys settle in your hand, beginning to walk with Obi-Wan back to his own apartment.
“Oh absolutely. Sugar. Alcohol. Sex. Dopamine. It all catches up to you in the end.” He retorts and you can’t help the smile on your face. You’re in a comfortable silence for a while before you’re at his door.
“I’m really glad you came over today, Ben. Not just because of the free cleaning service you provide. Or the home cooked meal.” He gives a slow nod, a smile on his features. He’s about to speak when a squeal comes from behind the door of his apartment, causing him to scramble to open the door. He rushes in,only for you to follow suit - finding two strangers in the living room, a young man on his knee with a wide eyed grin, and a young woman bouncing up and down while staring at her left hand. The two turn to look at you and the young woman smiles.
“Obi!! Look!” She juts out her hand in his direction, shaking with excitement as she pushes back hair from her face, the young man standing up and coming up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist. You look to see Obi-Wan’s reaction. His jaw is slacked, surprise evident as he takes her hand to examine the beautiful sapphire gem on her hand.
“Padme… what a beautiful ring.” He compliments, finally giving a look of some sort of cohesion. “Anakin, I thought you were waiting?” He asks with a tone of inflection, as though a father was searching for his child to admit his hand had been in the cookie jar.
“I-I was. But then Pads came home and told me the best news of my life. I couldn’t hold back then, could I?” He’s beaming with pride, leaving you with one sheer guess of what the woman was going to say. Still, Ben asks.
“And, that would be…?” He looks to Padme with caution. Her hand retreats from Obi-Wan’s as Anakin takes her right hand, her left falling to her abdomen.
“We’re expecting a baby.” She turns to Anakin when she says it, and you’re sat there feeling way too awkward. So, with a clearing of your throat you speak up finally.
“Congratulations!! What an exciting day for both of you.” You grin, looking to Ben who seems to have paled slightly, a fake smile plastered to his face.
“Of course. Anakin, Padme, this is… a friend from work.” He chooses the words carefully and you smile as each of them shakes your hand.
“Oh, you’re Ben’s patient from this weekend that he would shut up about, ‘ey?” With those words the man next to you is making a slicing motion with his hand in front of his neck smiling at you when he notices your attention is on him.
“Yeah.. I guess I am. Pleasure to meet both of you. I was just walking Ben home when the scream startled us. I’m glad everyone is okay - well more than ok. I.. should be going home.” You offer a slight bow, waving to both of them, Padme speaking up.
“Oh you are more than welcome here any time, dear. It was such a pleasure I hope to talk soon!” She waved and you can tell she has such great intentions, and a kind heart. Ben starts to escort you out, pinching the bridge of his nose when the younger two are not looking. You punch him playfully in the shoulder.
“You have fun with that one, Doc.” You taunt, moving backwards and grinning.
“Goodnight. Please get some rest. Don’t forget to reach out if you need me, okay?” You nod and he looks at you sternly.
“Okay, Dr. Creeps-a-lot.” He snickers and waves you off before you head home with a wide smile on your face.

8 - patching them up
~~~
“Oh Anakin, will you ever try not to give me a heart attack?” Obi-Wan mused, taking the damp cloth in his hand and dabbing it ever so gently over the angry red scrape running down the side of Anakin’s face.
“I saved your life, old man.” Anakin mumbled, wincing as Obi-Wan brushed over a particularly sensitive part of the wound.
“Anakin.” Obi-Wan dipped the cloth into the bucket of water on the floor beside Anakin’s feet, wringing it out, before reaching back up to start cleaning the raw, scraped skin on Anakin’s shoulder, now that he had removed all the dirt and blood from the wound on his face. “I would hardly call throwing yourself in front of a giant sand bear “saving my life”.”
“It was about to attack you!” Anakin retorted. Obi-Wan rolled his eyes. “You didn’t see its eyes, Obi-Wan—its eyes—it was gonna—mmm—”
“Sorry.”
Anakin squeezed his eyes shut, tilting his head back with a groan. “Ooh—ow...”
“Sorry...” Obi-Wan murmured. He quickly cleaned around the rest of the scraped skin on Anakin's arm, all the way down to the frayed prosthetic attached to his elbow, making a mental note that they would need to attend to the damaged extremity as soon as he had finished patching up the more urgent of Anakin's wounds. It wouldn't be too hard to fix—Anakin would be able to mend it in no time. Obi-Wan let out a sigh, once again dipping the cloth into the bucket and wringing it out.
“So.” Obi-Wan gently began to dab the cloth along the largest of the scrapes, which stretched all the way down the side of Anakin’s leg. “You jumped in front of that aggravated sand bear and let it drag you half way across the field, before you finally managed to wrangle yourself out from its grip—” Anakin’s breath hitched as he attempted to clean a particularly deep part of the scrape next to Anakin’s knee. Sorry, my friend. “—all because you thought it was going to attack me?”
Keeping his eyes closed, Anakin shook his head. “You didn’t see its eyes, Master.”
“Oh, well, my utmost sincerest apologies, my friend—let me rephrase that—you jumped in front of that aggravated sand bear and let it drag you half way across the field before you finally managed to wrangle yourself out from its grip, all because it had ‘scary-looking eyes’?”
Anakin let out an exasperated groan. “I was saving your life.”
“Actually, Anakin, I think you may find that it was I who ended up coming to the rescue and saved your life; a detail you seem to have sorely missed.”
“Hey!” Anakin protested. “I—”
“You may have forgotten,” Obi-Wan cut in. “but the only reason you got out of this mess in one piece was because I managed to soothe the creature with the force and send it on its way, before it could harm you any further.”
Anakin opened his mouth. Closed it again. Then he crossed his arms, letting out a disgruntled huff.
"You're insufferable, Master," he grumbled. “It would’ve harmed you if I hadn’t moved into the way.”
“You don’t know that.”
“But you didn’t see its eyes, Master! It was—”
“Oh, enough about the eyes, Anakin.”
Setting the bucket and cloth aside, Obi-Wan opened a tube of bacta, squeezing out a liberal amount of gel onto his fingers.
“This might sting.”
Looking at Anakin's face, Obi-Wan began to dextrously apply the bacta gel to the angered area of skin, smoothing the soothing substance over the side of his forehead, eyebrow and cheek, in gentle, circular motions, encouraging its nurturing properties sink in. Reaching into the force, Obi-Wan grasped a slither of healing energy, sending it through his fingers and into Anakin’s skin, in small, comforting waves. He wasn't a healer, but he knew enough to at least ease some of the pain, and push the healing process along.
“That feel okay?”
“Mmhmm.”
By the time he moved on to rubbing the bacta gel into Anakin’s arm, and down to his leg, Obi-Wan could feel that Anakin was already a lot more relaxed under his touch. His small attempt at healing must have succeeded, even if it had only eased some of Anakin’s pain.
When Obi-Wan finally finished applying the bacta gel, screwing the cap back onto the tube and setting it down, he looked at Anakin’s face, noticing how his skin had already faded to a softer rosy-pink colour instead of a fiery red like it had been minutes before.
“Ah, it looks like your skin is already beginning to heal.” he murmured. He gently ran his fingers through Anakin’s still-slightly-dishevelled hair, plucking out a few blades of grass and a couple twigs that seemed to have made a temporary home within his copper-blonde locks.
"Hm, it's like a treasure trove in here," he said with a chuckle. Anakin rolled his eyes. Though Obi-Wan didn't miss the grin that crept up his lips a moment later. “Wonder what else i’ll find...”
Leaving the rest of the mess of Anakin’s hair to be dealt with later, Obi-Wan cleaned his hands with a damp cloth, dried them, before taking out a roll of bandages from the medkit.
“Could you lift your arm for me, please.” Anakin nodded, lifting his arm, allowing Obi-Wan to wrap the bandage neatly around his bicep. “Thank you.”
Obi-Wan carefully wrapped the fabric around the worst of the Anakin’s scrapes, being as gentle as he could, trying not to aggravate the tender skin underneath.
“This all right?”
“Mmhmm.”
After wrapping the worst affected areas, Obi-Wan tucked the excess bandages away into the medkit, and slid it to the side, focusing back to his injured friend.
Anakin was running his fingers over the scratched and frayed wiring in his prosthetic, brows furrowed in concentration. Obi-Wan moved closer, lifting the hand of the damaged mechno-limb to inspect the damage.
“Will you be able to fix it?”
Anakin nodded.
“Yeah,” he said. “It’s not as bad as it looks. I’ll have to replace some of the wiring, and fix the servo here—” Anakin pointed to the servomotor in the wrist of the prosthetic. Obi-Wan nodded. “—but it won’t take long.”
“That’s good.”
“Obi-Wan?”
“Yes, Anakin?” Obi-Wan replied, lifting his eyebrow. Anakin bit his lip.
“Um…would you be able to bring me my toolbox please?” he asked. “It’s just…I don’t really want to move right now because of…” he gestured to his bandages. Obi-Wan nodded knowingly.
“Does it still hurt?”
“Only a little, but I just…”
“That’s all right, I understand.” Obi-Wan smiled empathetically, picking out another stray twig from Anakin’s hair. He flicked it away, before smoothing back a few frizzy strands of Anakin’s curls. “I can bring you your toolbox.”
Obi-Wan turned to leave the small medbay of their shuttle to search for Anakin’s toolbox, but stopped when Anakin made a strange noise behind him.
“Wait!”
“Anakin?”
Obi-Wan turned back round to see Anakin recoil slightly, looking at him with an almost guilty expression.
“Um…would you also be able to bring me something to eat, please?” he said. “I’m kinda hungry after saving your life.”
Obi-Wan snorted with laughter.
“Yes Anakin, I’ll add ‘bring Anakin some food’ to the list.”
“Thank you.”
“On one condition.”
“Which is?”
Obi-Wan smirked. “I’ll bring you some food,” he said. “But only if you admit that I was the one who saved your life today.”
“But—”
“Anakin.”
Anakin gave him a piercing gaze. A beat passed. Another beat. And then…he let out a sigh.
“Thank you for saving my life today, Obi-Wan.” he mumbled.
“What was that? I didn’t quite catch that.”
“Thank you for saving my life today, Obi-Wan!” he exclaimed dramatically. Wow. He must really be hungry. “There. I said it. Was that what you wanted?”
“Anakin, that was more than I could’ve dreamed of.”
“You’re welcome. Now, please could you bring me some food?”
“Yes Anakin. Anything for you.”
Tumblr media
When they got closer to presumably their destination, Veth held out a blindfold. Zara raised one eyebrow at him and shook her head.
“I’m not wearing that. Your threat of killing my men is over so you have no leverage over me.”
“I have two lightsabers and you’re stuck in this ship with me.”
“If you swing them, we both die. Are you wanting to die?”
“Are you?”
Zara scowled and crossed her arms. Veth laughed at her which only soured her mood even more.
“Me not having leverage over you is exactly why I need you to wear this. You presumably have it planned that you figure out where you are and either get a message out or escape on your own. I do not want to harm you, but I will if I have to.”
“So, wear this for my own protection?”
“Precisely, darling.”
Zara did nothing short of barking out a cackle.
“I am a Jedi Knight. I do not fear you. You may have manipulated me into going with you to keep my clones safe but that does not mean I am easily fooled.”
“You don’t trust me.”
“Would you trust me if the roles were reversed?”
“Yes.”
Zara was taken back by his swift and solid answer.
“You’ve had many chances to fight me, yet you’d prefer to talk and negotiate. You don’t want to fight if you don’t have to. That is a trait we share.”
“Sith only want destruction.”
“That is what the Jedi teach.”
“That is the truth.”
“Give me one day, Zara Fross. Comply with me for that long then you can make your decision on if you’re going to fight back or not.”
“Why a day?”
“That’s how long it will take me to ensure that you are safe before you do something reckless like jumping off a cliff.”
She found herself biting back a laugh as she reached to snatch the blindfold. Veth made a disapproving noise in the back of his throat and motioned for her to turn. Zara grimaced but turned slightly, allowing her captor to place it over her eyes and tie it. She felt her face flush when he gently turned her and ensured her eyes were completely covered.
“I bet this is the easiest kidnapping you’ve ever conducted.”
“You are right, though you aren’t the first beautiful woman I’ve put a blindfold on. Now sit there like a good girl and we will be home soon enough.”
Shocked by his tone and words, Zara sat in silence instead of arguing. She told herself that it would never be home to her, just a temporary stop before she found her way back to the Jedi. She hoped that Anakin wasn’t causing too much trouble.
---
“THAT is why you sent her without me!? You knew that creep would follow her!”
“Calm down, Anakin.” Mace said for what felt like the hundredth time.
“How can I calm down? He TOOK her!”
“She is perfectly capable of taking care of herself. There was no indication that she was harmed. He let her leave a message for Commander Cody.”
“Where is Commander Cody? He should be punished for leaving her alone in the first place.”
“Anakin Skywalker. You better watch your tone when you’re speaking to the council. I understand you care for your friend, but you need to recognize that we need to put our trust in her and her capabilities. You’re bordering on insulting with how little you believe in her.”
“Master Windu, I can’t agree with not sending someone to find her. To save her. We have no idea what that creep is doing to her.”
“We also don’t know where she is. Once we get intel on her location, we will send someone to retrieve her. Until then, you have missions that you must accomplish. The war has not stopped, and you have not been relieved of any of your responsibilities.”
Anakin sighed and deflated. He nodded at Mace and ran his hands down his face.
“You’re right, Master. Just.. please keep me updated on her while I’m gone.”
Mace nodded at him and watched him leave. Yoda turned to him once the door shut and shook his head.
“Troubled, that boy is.”
“Yes. I know him and Zara are close, but he is so reckless.”
“No different, Zara would be.”
“No but she would have at least said those things to me in private instead of the entire counsel.”
Yoda chuckled and nodded, reaching over to pat Maces hand a few times. It was unspoken, but Master Windu was just as worried about his former Padawan as Anakin was, especially if the reports about Darth Veth were true.
---
Zara hated not having some semblance of control. It was why she preferred not to fight. No one could ever predict every move someone else would make. Words were easier for her to predict. So, stumbling through the snow without being able to see was not her idea of a good time.
“We’re almost there, darling.”
“I really wish you’d stop calling me that.”
“Would you prefer princess? Love? I’m sure I could find sweet pet names to find out in different languages if that is what you would enjoy.”
Zara stopped moving, turning to where she thought the man was and tried to glare.
“Fine. Stick with darling.”
He chuckled and gripped her arm a little tighter. He wasn’t hurting her, not that he even remotely wanted to. When she had stumbled a few times, he felt bad at how petrified she was at not being able to see. He had offered to carry her but that didn’t help the fear that was basically seeping from her pores.
When her teeth started chattering, he finally gave in and scooped her up. She gasped out of surprise and started to protest. She silenced when he shushed her and tentatively held onto him, afraid of being dropped.
“It’s quicker this way. Need to get you inside before you freeze to death.”
“Well, I wouldn’t run away would I.”
He chuckled and tightened his grip on her, picking up his pace. Within a few minutes he spotted their destination and got her inside. He deposited her gently on his couch and pulled the blindfold off.
“Get your boots off. You aren’t dressed for the cold and you don’t want to lose toes because of it.”
She hesitated, taking in her surroundings but eventually pulled them off, setting them neatly by her. Veth looked at her as he was taking off his heavy jacket and boots.
“You don’t need to sit there. You can explore.”
She stood warily, wincing at the feeling returning to her feet. She walked throughout the main living space and noticed how simple it was. She half expected a home more industrial and extravagant. It didn’t scream Sith Lord to her.
Making her way down the hallway, she looked into each room. She was surprised to see that there were two bedrooms and a fairly large refresher. The last room she came to actually intrigued her enough to walk in. Every wall was covered from floor to ceiling in books and holocrons.
“I figured this would be the room I’d find you in.”
Zara glanced over her shoulder and wrapped her arms around herself. Veth walked in and stood next to her.
“You are welcome to read anything in here. I would have brought some of the texts from our meeting spot but figured they’d just be another weapon for you to use against me.”
“I wouldn’t risk destroying history like that.”
“Then I trust you all the more in my personal library. I have placed warm clothes in the refresher. Take your time as this planet has no water restrictions or issues. I will be making some food to eat. Come find me when you are done.”
He went to walk out but Zara reached out and touched his arm lightly, recoiling as soon as she did.
“Why.. why am I here?”
“Are you asking that or asking why you aren’t shackled and bleeding?”
“I guess I’m asking both.”
“Go shower. I will answer all questions within reason when you are done.”
---
Zara stepped out of the shower and wiped at the mirror in front of her. She considered braiding her hair but with the cold she needed it to dry as soon as possible. She looked down at the counter and saw that there was a brush. With a shrug she picked it up and worked it through her hair.
It had gotten much longer than she usually let it grow. When she was younger, she kept it short to keep it out of her face but now it was down to her mid back. She ran her fingers across the short side she had cut and thought of Anakin. He had dared her to do it thinking she would care too much about her hair. She had laughed so hard when she saw the expression on his face when she cut the portion.
She wondered how Anakin was. It wasn’t abnormal not to talk to him for days at a time, but now she didn’t even have the capability to. He was her best friend and the idea of not seeing him again brought a pain to her chest she had never felt before.
Zara shook her head, trying to will away the negative thoughts. Instead, she focused on the bright color of her hair. It had been another dare of Anakin. He thought Mace would be furious with her but instead he had given her a soft smile and a nod, letting her know it fit her. Master Windu always wanted her to be herself in a way that fit the code. Her appearance didn’t matter as long as she lived the code and was proud of being a Jedi.
She looked down at the clothes and frown. They were most definitely the Sith’s robes. She considered putting her own back on, but he was right; it was cold. Once she was dressed in the black robes that were just slightly too big for her, she hung her towel up and went back out to the main living area.
“Ah, hello there. I hope your shower was enjoyable.”
She nodded, not having the energy to argue with him anymore. He motioned for the table that already had food waiting for her. She sat down gently and looked at the food.
“Stars, I know I’m not a great cook, but it isn’t enough to be sad over.”
When she didn’t look up at him, he sighed and sat next to her, digging into his own food. She eventually picked up her utensils and started eating. It was warm and well-seasoned, but it did little to improve her mood.
“Lord Veth, why am I here?”
He used his napkin to pat at his mouth before sitting back in his chair. It struck her as odd at how sophisticated he was, again. It went against everything that she had been taught about the Sith and how they lived their life.
“I promised you answers. I will give you as many as I can. Then you can be informed if you want to fight against your captivity or not.”
He took a drink of the wine in front of him before crossing on leg over the other.
“I first heard of you when you started your missions with the Skywalker boy.”
“You’ve called him Ani. Why?”
“I’ll get there, my dear. I was tasked with observing you and finding a way to get you away from him. You see, my Master desperately wants the boy. He has plans for him. He doesn’t think that he will stray from the Jedi as long as you are around him. You’re a rather calming presence for him just as much as he challenges you to come out of your shell.”
“He’s my best friend.”
Zara felt her chest tighten again at the thought of Anakin and the vulnerability she was showing.
“Without you around he can fulfill the role my Master expects of him. I was given the option to just kill you but the more I learned of you the more I saw how much of a waste that would be. You’re a strong Jedi and an even smarter woman. You care deeply for those around you regardless of it being a stretch in the code you swore yourself to.”
“That doesn’t explain how you know Anakin.”
“I was with Qui Gon when he found him.”
“You?”
He chuckled and nodded, brushing his hair back out of his face.
“Yes. I went by an entirely different name back then, but I was there.”
Zara furrowed her brow and tried to figure out who he possibly could be. She chewed on her bottom lip as she tried desperately to pull up the memory.
“Master Windu told me of a padawan Master Jinn had. He died though so he took on Anakin.”
“I did not die. I’m sure he thought I did with the fiery explosion. My Masters other apprentice found me barely clinging to life. The Jedi never even looked for me.”
“That’s.. terrible. I am so very sorry that they didn’t.. there had to have been a reason they didn’t-”
Zara sat up straighter when anger flashed across the man’s face. His eyes seemed even more dangerous and for the first time she didn’t feel safe around him. She stood up and he followed, backing her against the wall. He caged her in by placing his hands on each side of her head.
“Do not mistake my civility as us being friends, Jedi. I will treat you as my guest, but I will not have the betrayal they put me through excused or brushed off by anyone. Is that understood?”
“Y-yes.”
“Good girl.”
He stood up, taking his hands from the wall and tracing his finger across her jaw gently with a feral smile. She looked up at him trying to steel herself against him. She had almost let herself forget that he was a dangerous Sith keeping her captive.
“Why don’t you finish eating then we can talk more. Like I said earlier, there is much I wish to learn about you.”
---
Zara sat curled up on the end of the couch, trying to keep warm. Regardless of what she was wearing, she couldn’t seem to shake the cold. Her previous thoughts of hating the heat were coming back to haunt her. She jumped when she felt something rest against her shoulders until she saw the Sith was laying a thick blanket across her.
“Uh, thank you.”
“You’re very welcome, my dear.”
He sat down next to her, far enough away that they weren’t touching.
“It unfortunately gets very cold at night here.”
“Where are we, Hoth?”
“No, but a planet very similar.”
“Stars how do you deal with it?”
“I manage.”
She pulled the blanket tighter around herself and shivered.
“May I ask you what your name was before?”
“You may. However, for every question I answer you need to answer two of mine.”
“Two? How is that fair?”
“Who said anything about fair?”
She looked over at him and scowled at his sly grin. She turned so she was facing him more with her knees pulled up to her chest. He was already turned slightly to the side with his legs spread apart and his arm thrown over the back of the couch.
“Fine. What was your name.”
“Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
“Obi.. wow.”
“You know the name?”
“I do. Master Jinn spoke of you often while Anakin and I were training.”
He rolled his jaw before forcing the emotion to fall from his face. He was smiling again before she even could comprehend that he had been upset.
“What planet are you from?”
“Alderaan.”
“Good family?”
“The best. Wonderful parents. Well off. Supportive in my quest to become a Jedi.”
“Interesting. That explains your education and manners.”
She shrugged and smiled softly.
“Can I assume you’re from Coruscant?”
“No. I don’t really remember though I was very young when I went there. Thus, the accent.”
“Makes sense. The Jedi usually take in children at a young age.”
“You mean steal them.”
Not wanting to anger him more, she fell silent.
“Were you at the temple before Anakin?”
“Yes. Not very long though. Maybe a week or two if I remember correctly.”
“Then I just missed you it seems.”
She nodded and shivered again.
“What is the extent of your relationship with Skywalker?”
Her head shot up at that question. She looked him directly in his eyes and saw a cautious curiosity.
“I’ve told you. He’s my best friend.”
“It seems deeper than that. He was positively furious when I called you darling.”
“He’s.. protective. He had to leave his mother and I was the first person he truly connected to after that. Master Windu worried he was corrupting me but there were many times he kept me sane.”
“Explain more, please.”
She smirked and shook her head.
“You’re being awfully careful not to ask another question.”
“Trying to play by the rules, my dear.”
She chuckled and played with the edge of the blanket.
“I think maybe if there hadn’t been a code, we would have grown closer.”
“So, you turned him down.”
“Not necessarily. It’s not like we talked about it. We just knew it wasn’t what the Jedi would need from us. Have you ever been in love?”
“Yes.”
She decided not to press him more when his answer was clipped. She lowered her eyes and chewed on her bottom lip again.
“Do you love Anakin?”
“I.. I’ve never let myself love anyone. My destiny is to be a Jedi Master. I won’t let anything deter that.”
“Interesting. So, you don’t indulge in physical pleasure?”
She snorted and he raised his eyebrows in response.
“I’m not a prude. I just don’t let myself feel possessive or attached to them.”
“So, why not with Anakin then? You two are already close.”
She shrugged and laughed, her face feeling warm.
“Doesn’t really need to be thought about. It didn’t happen and won’t.”
“You’re rather open with me. Not what I expected considering who your Master was.”
“I would rather give you this information willingly in a way that I can benefit from it. Considering what the alternative is I think it’s safer that way.”
He chuckled and carded his hand through his hair again.
“You are wise beyond your years, darling. I do wonder why you were so willing to tell me about Anakin though. You know he is in danger.”
“Nothing that I told you is anything you couldn’t have found out just by watching us. You actually probably would have assumed there was more to it. I know the counsel did many times.”
Zara let out a yawn, trying to cover her face as she did. Veth chuckled and stood, motioning for her to lay down on the couch.
“There is a spare room, but it is much warmer out here. I’ll check on the fire throughout the night.”
She curled up and made sure the blanket was wrapped tightly around her. He added more wood to the fire and dusted his hands off as he stood up. He paused at the doorway and looked at the sleepy Jedi on his couch.
“Goodnight, Zara.”
“Goodnight, Lord Veth.”
“You can call me Obi Wan, if you’d prefer.”
“I thought we weren’t friends, Obi Wan?”
“You’re starting to grow on me a bit, darling.”
With a smirk he left, leaving her even more confused than the first time she met him. Zara was terrified of the situation she was in but knew she had to play his game. As she drifted to sleep, she worried about her best friend and what they could possibly want from him. She had to find a way to warn him and protect him.
“Zara. Zara dear, you need to wake up. Come on, sweetheart.”
She woke with a gasp and looked around, unaware of where she was. She jumped when she realized Obi Wan was kneeling by the couch with his hand on her shoulder. He looked worried; his hair still disheveled from sleeping.
“W-what? What is it?”
“You were crying out in your sleep. Gave me a terrible fright when I heard you. Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m f-fine. Sorry. Sorry for startling you.”
“What was wrong?”
“I just.. I have nightmares. I’m fine. I’ll be fine. Don’t let me keep you up.”
She sat up, pulling away from his touch. He stood and moved to the fire, tending to it like he had been doing it his entire life. She watched him as she worked on controlling her breathing. Although nightmares weren’t new to her, being woken by someone she didn’t know was. She felt ashamed and embarrassed that he had heard her crying.
“Tell me, darling, do the Jedi know of your nightmares?”
“It’s hard to find one of us who doesn’t have them. War never really leaves us.”
“You’re fighting against a droid army.”
“We don’t use droids to fight.”
Her voice was harsh and clipped, surprising Obi Wan. He walked to her, stopping only to kneel in front of her on the floor. She wrapped the blanket tighter around her and watched him with unease.
“You really do care about your clones, don’t you?”
“They’re people. Living breathing people. Their history or how they came to life doesn’t concern me. What concerns me is-“
“Stars, Zara, they’re just clones. More can be made.”
“You sound like Senator Palpatine. So high and mighty that you have no regard for life. Even now you play games with me, dangling the idea of my death over my head. You’re no better than a bored loth cat playing with a mouse.”
“Are you comparing yourself to a rodent?”
He smirked and it infuriated Zara. She snarled and tried to get up, wanting space between the two of them. Before she could even fully try, Obi Wans hands shot out and grabbed her thighs tightly, keeping her in place.
“No, Lord Veth, I am comparing you to a predator with absolutely no humanity. Your tricks will not work on me. You may have been a Jedi once, but it is clear as day that you are no longer harboring any shred of light in you. Go ahead and pretend that you’re civil and sophisticated while you keep me prisoner on this despot of a planet. It doesn’t matter how kind or human you pretend to be. You’re nothing short of a monster. You’ll never be able to hide the evil coursing through you when it burns so brightly through your eyes.”
Zara held back a wince as his grip tightened on her legs. The normal playfulness that he usually held on his face was long gone. The more she spoke, the angrier he became.
“There she is. There is the conceited Jedi I knew had to have been in there. I saved your life, little knight. I spared your men knowing that it would harm you to wipe them out. I let you stay awake and conscious of what was happening. I gave you my clothes to wear so you would be warm and let you know parts of me that I didn’t need to divulge. Without me, you would be dead along with your entire regiment.”
“How do I even know a single thing you’ve said to me is true? Sith lie.”
“Now you question my integrity? When have you discovered anything I have said to you is a lie?”
“It all has to be a lie! Why would anyone that follows the dark want Anakin? He is a good man. He is devoted to those he loves and the family he has created within the order. He would never fall to the dark side. He wouldn’t do that to them. He wouldn’t do that to-“
“To what? Or were you going to say to who? He wouldn’t do that to you. Is that what you were going to say? Hmm?”
When Zara fell silent Obi Wan laughed out darkly.
“My dear, pull the right strings and anyone could fall to the dark. He has a weakness, and it is you.”
“It’s not like that with me!”
“Does he know that? You see, I have been in love before and it didn’t matter how far away I ended up from her. It never went away. Even once I heard of her death, I still mourned her and the love we could have shared if I had just let myself fall.”
She shook her head quickly.
“He will do what our master’s ask of us. He will help win this war and-“
“Now who is the liar, Zara? I’ve heard some doozies coming from the lips of Jedi, but I have never heard someone so willing to lie when the truth is right in their face. The fall of Anakin Skywalker has already begun. Your absence, regardless of what is causing it, is going to make him desperate. He will do anything to either get you back or avenge you. Look me in the eyes and tell me that I’m wrong.”
Zara opened her mouth to argue but quickly shut it.
“That’s what I thought.”
He released her legs and stood, looking down at her with anger.
“Get some rest. Lack of sleep makes you ungrateful and it’s not a good look.”
Once he was in his room, punctuated by a slam of his door, Zara finally let her tears fall. She wanted to talk to Master Windu to get clarity. She needed to hear that Veth, Obi Wan, whoever he was, was wrong. Feeling hopeless and helpless wasn’t something she was accustomed to and it was tearing her to shreds.
Star Wars Novel Rankings
In celebration of the end of this year, I made a tier list of all of the Star Wars novels I’ve read since I joined this fandom in 2017 (which you can use to rank these books too). And I named all the tiers in a dorky but appropriate fashion. I would love to hear your thoughts on my rankings, as well as how you’d rank the books yourself! I’ve had a blast reading Star Wars novels from both Disney’s canon and the Legends extended universe over these past 3 years. Here’s to many more years of reading stories from the galaxy far far away!
I put longer (but not more coherent) thoughts below the cut.
Tumblr media
The Chosen One: Bringing Balance to the Force and My Depressed Soul
1. The first spot of top tier had to go to Matthew Stover’s Revenge of the Sith novelization for obvious reasons. You simply cannot beat it. It’s a masterpiece. I literally had to put the book down to scream when I read the prose associated with the opening battle over Coruscant. It gave a whole new meaning to the triumphant music and the synchronous twirling of Obi-Wan and Anakin’s starfighters as they weave through blaster-fire in the battle over Coruscant. The rest of the book is the same way. You can’t put it down. I have wAyyYyYy too many feelings about this book oh my god.
2. Thrawn was a surprising book for me. For being centered on an admiral of the Empire’s navy, it had so much heart in it! I loved reading from Eli Vanto’s perspective too. god dammit I love that freaking Wild Space hillbilly dweeb with all my heart. I think his experiences getting to know Thrawn and learning from him guides the reader to feel much the same way as Eli by the end. Thrawn is a trusted friend, not the enemy you expect him to be. I could have done without Arihnda Pryce but she’s supposed to be unlikeable so I won’t blame Timothy Zahn this time.
3. The Clone Wars Gambit duology is basically Karen Miller writing fanfic and I’m HERE FOR IT. As is tradition with Karen Miller’s Star Wars novels, the emotions are dialed up the eleven. Our favorite dumbass Jedi team is back at it again with a mission to save the galaxy and this time they end up going undercover as two lumberjacks from the boonies. Anakin holds an energy shield back from collapsing with his bare hands like a total badass. Obi-Wan is in love with another woman despite it always ending in tragedy, while also bickering like a married couple with Anakin every ten seconds. get a fucking room, you two. These two books inspired one of my fics so they’re near and dear to my heart.
Jedi Master: These Books Have A Seat On The Council Too
4. Wild Space was appropriately named, I’ll tell you that. It’s a wild ride from start to finish. *slaps the front cover* this book can fit so much of Obi-Wan’s suffering in it! @forcearama has elaborated on the many reasons why this book is a gem in Snark Wars blog posts (linked here). It’s also the beginning of the best team-up since Anakin and Obi-Wan...Bail and Obi-Wan! These two bastards get under each other’s skin but it makes for the perfect character development. This book is the reason I screech with delight whenever Bail Organa appears on screen, or is mentioned in conversation. Bail gets a mysterious tip about trouble on a planet, and Obi-Wan decides to go with him to investigate. Cue Sith-induced suffering. It’s cool to see a normal person experiencing the weirdness of Force sensitives and how the world has this extra level of sensory information in it. Plotwise this one isn’t the best, but I think the interactions between characters really shine in this novel. Karen Miller’s writing is like a cup of hot chocolate to me. Indulgent character insight, full of sweet moments, has a bunch of extra marshmallowy dialogue, you’re reading it to have a good time but not to be satisfied with plot. You get me?
5. Do I even have to explain myself here? Kenobi by John Jackson Miller is both an interesting western-style tale set on Tatooine, and a beautiful character study of a man stricken with grief he keeps suppressed. How does one continue on when their whole family was murdered and their whole culture burnt to ash? I wanted to give Obi-Wan a hug the entire time I read this. The characterization was spot-on, from the way he wrangled animals to the way he severed a man’s arm off in a bar with his lightsaber. And when he meets a woman named Annileen Calwell, or Annie for short, Obi-Wan can’t bring himself to call her by her nickname ever and if that doesn’t just break your damn heart fucking fuck.
6. Ahsoka was the first Disney canon book I ever read and it kickstarted my love for E.K. Johnston. The writing is simplistic, but that makes it easy to jump into. Overall, it’s a quick and enjoyable read. By far the best parts are the flashbacks that mull over memories Ahsoka has of the time before Order 66. That shit hits you right in the heart, man. And the part where Ahsoka equates Obi-Wan and Anakin to her adoptive family ohhhhhhh god the tears they flow like a river. There are scenes that allude to Ahsoka becoming the vital part of the Rebellion we know her to be from Rebels, balanced with her current struggles to survive and find herself. Despite having cast away her identity as a Jedi and having any remaining bits of her culture destroyed by Palpatine, Ahsoka shows us all how bright a hero can shine in the darkest of times. AND SHE WAS WRITTEN AS QUEER! finally some good fucking food.
7. Oh shit, another E.K. Johnston book? Don’t be surprised. She’s a prequel fan and so am I, hence why Queen’s Shadow is so high on the list. E.K. Johnston pays homage to our favorite queen and badass senator Padme Amidala. There’s politics, there’s solidarity between female characters, and Bail Organa is in it so you KNOW I simply must give it a high rating. All jokes aside, I thought the story added lots of little details to the world of Star Wars without it being all stereotypical sci-fi nerdy language. You know how people want to describe something beyond our technological capabilities so they throw a bunch of nonsense together like “pre-praxis crystal bio-anode circuitry”? I’m looking at you, Karen Miller, I love you but please. There is none of that in this book. It makes sense, it adds color and culture and life to the worlds of Star Wars. Most of all, it devotes time and love to developing Padme outside of her place in canon as Anakin’s wife, Queen of Naboo, and Senator. She is all of these things, but she’s human too. I do agree that the pacing is slow, but it’s something meant to be savored, I think. E.K. Johnston really shines when she’s writing dialogue because she gets these characters. That’s something to appreciate, because not all canon books agree with the way we’ve perceived the characters as an audience.
8. Rogue Planet chewed me up, spit me out, and declared me an even bigger stan for The Team. People who say Qui-Gon would have been a better master for Anakin can ~get out~ because I could read about these two hooligans getting neck deep in space shenanigans all damn day. Anakin is like twelve, which is a time in his training that we don’t get a lot of in canon. Personally, I think it was equal parts heartwarming and funny to read about their adventures. There is some angst sprinkled in there because hey, we’re reading about Anakin here, let’s not forget the emotional trainwreck that is Anakin Skywalker. The duo is sent to a planet that makes super fast ships that are ?sentient? or at least biologically active. They bond with the pilot, which makes Anakin perfect for this mission. There’s a scene where these little floof things attach all over tiny Anakin because he’s so strong in the Force and it’s god damn adorable how dare he?? I’d probably rate this one even higher if I read it again, but it’s been awhile. Characterization is spot on and reminiscent of Matthew Stover’s writing in how it highlights the strong bond between Obi-Wan and Anakin, how they’re fated to know each other. I’m a sucker for soulmates, what can I say?
9. Lost Stars reads like a movie. Not a script, but just the perfect amount of detail that you can imagine the scenes but the pacing is still quick, the dialogue smooth and natural. I couldn’t help wishing this was a film because the story was so all-encompassing. The highs and lows of the emotions of both protagonists, their relationship developing, the differences in culture. Folks, this book has it all! It’s a totally different perspective on the events of the original trilogy, seen from the side of Imperial cadets training to become pilots. Eventually, one splits off and joins the Rebellion while the other perseveres in the Empire. It’s like star-crossed lovers, but covers so much more ground than that. And the characters are fully developed. These original characters knocked my socks off, and that’s hard to do since I’m usually an Obi-Wan stan through and through. For anyone uncertain of reading Star Wars novels, this book is a great place to start. Action-packed, emotion-filled, and stands on its own despite weaving perfectly into the established universe. What more could you want?
10. Back at it again with the prequel shit, amiright? Queen’s Peril is E.K. Johnston’s most recent Padme-centric novel and it does not disappoint fans that wanted a taste of the Queen’s side of the story. Set during the events of The Phantom Menace, we get a “behind the curtain” look at how all of the handmaidens came to be more than their title suggests. There’s teenage girls getting stuff done! It makes more sense why Padme was elected ruler of her home-world, and you come to appreciate that a royal leader is not alone; there’s actually a whole team at her side to help her overcome everything from the drudgery of daily governing to Trade Federation blockades that threaten to starve her people. I think if you enjoyed Queen’s Shadow, you’ll enjoy this book a lot. For those that are unfamiliar with Johnston’s work, I wouldn’t recommend this one first because it does cover events you’ve already seen in movies and therefore is a less suspenseful companion to them. On the other hand, because it does tie in with TPM, it doesn’t suffer from the pacing issues of Queen’s Shadow to the same degree. I read this all in one sitting, so it’s definitely fun, but wasn’t compelling enough in its character development to elevate the book past some of the others I’ve listed already.
11. Thrawn: Treason was a refreshing return to the Grand Admiral we all know and love after the second installment in this series slowed things down a bit. Although it wasn’t as character-driven as the first book (which I love with all of my heart), there were still many moments that had me cackling at the disparity between Thrawn’s immense intellect and the other Imperials’ sheer stupidity, and that’s what we’re here for in a book about the Empire, right? There’s a lot of pressure on Thrawn, as his TIE Defender project has been pitted against Director Krennic’s Project Stardust. Who will get the funds? We just don’t know?? Tarkin sits in between the two and as usual, manipulates everything to his advantage. Palpatine questions Thrawn’s allegiance to the Empire after some of the choices he has made, leaving him in even more of a pickle. Thrawn is sent on a wild goose chase task that should definitely end in failure (on purpose because Imperials all want to watch each other burn as much as they want to watch the Rebellion burn), but you know Thrawn will find a way. My main squeeze Eli Vanto makes his return after being absent from book 2. Missed you, my sweet sweet country boy. He doesn’t have a leading role in this novel, but every scene he’s in makes the story better. Thrawn says “perhaps” way too often for my taste, but if you can ignore that, this book is a solid read. Equal parts action and deductive reasoning, as any Thrawn book should be.
12. Most of Dark Disciple had me thinking this was going to be a top tier book, and damn do I wish we could have gotten this animated. We follow Quinlan Vos and Asajj Ventress on a mission to assassinate Count Dooku. Why the Jedi thought this was a good idea, I don’t know. But I’m here for it all the same. 3/4 of the adventure were intriguing, but the ending didn’t do it for me. I won’t spoil things for anyone who hasn’t read this yet, but after all of the character development, to have it squandered so quickly just left me disappointed? I got really attached to everyone in this novel, and I’m sure you will to. I’ve read this and listened to it as an audiobook, and actually I think it’s more memorable as an audiobook. Would recommend, except for Mace Windu’s voice being exceptionally southern for no reason. Weird. I think this novel captures all of the great things about The Clone Wars show; time to really get to know each character and their motivations, action and adventure with the darkness of impending doom tinting everything, and lightsaber fights! Plus, Obi-Wan and Anakin make appearances in this book and it just adds that extra bit of spice. Worth the read, even if you know they aren’t going to get Dooku in the end (which I am still mad about, screw that guy).
Jedi Knight: Passed the Trials but There’s Room for Improvement
13. Few books in the Star Wars universe are centered around characters with no use of the Force, but in Most Wanted, we see a young Han Solo and Qi’ra struggling to survive on Corellia and it provides a humorous but compelling backstory to both characters in the Disney canon. Han is his usual lucky goofball self, and Qi’ra is smart and cunning. You can see how they grew into the versions of themselves in Solo. While the book stays on the lighter side of things (typical of stories written for a younger audience), there are still moments of depth on droid rights, viewing the Force as a religion, and what life is like in a crime syndicate. Addressing these heavier topics without it killing the pace of the story is hard to do, but Rae Carson pulls it off flawlessly. I went into this book with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had. Han and Qi’ra start off as competitors, but eventually have to learn to work together to survive as more and more people start hunting them down. They’re honestly so cute together, I loved their dynamic. It makes Solo a better movie, and although I liked it on its own, characters like Qi’ra needed a little more time to get to know, which you can get here!
14. Thrawn Alliances was not what I expected at all, and it took me a lot longer to get through. Hell, it has Thrawn, Anakin/Vader, and Padme in it! What’s not to love? Apparently, a lot. The different timepoints and perspectives in this were more jarring than anything else. Although the interactions between Thrawn and Anakin/Vader were enjoyable, it was not enough to elevate this book into the Jedi Master tier. Things felt dry, the characters didn’t grip me like in the first Thrawn, and it all felt like a ploy to introduce Batuu into canon before the launch of Galaxy’s Edge.
15. Leia: Princess of Alderaan was a dive into young Leia’s life before we see her in A New Hope even though this was marketed as a journey to The Last Jedi book, which I disagree with. We really haven’t seen any content about Leia in this time period before, and although I can’t say I was looking for this, I did enjoy it. The book was a little long, but there was adventure and the seeds are planted for Leia to be a bigger part of the Rebellion. The romance wasn’t too memorable, but Holdo wasn’t pointless in this (a stark contrast to her brief appearance in TLJ just to sacrifice herself). There’s a hint about Leia being Force-sensitive but it’s not in-your-face. It’s a typical coming-of-age story but in the gffa. The best part about this is seeing Bail and Breha as parents. I’m forever in pain that we didn’t get to see more of this in movies because it’s so so sweet. Leia must choose what kind of person she is going to be--and what kind of princess she will become. It won’t be for everyone, but I liked it.
16. Master and Apprentice was a typical Star Wars novel, which means it’s full of original characters that are strange and outlandish to serve the plot, a new world full of beautiful landscapes, and Obi-Wan suffering. I want to make it clear that this book is 80% Qui-Gon, 10% Rael Averross, and 10% Obi-Wan. I was expecting it to be 50% Qui-Gon, 50% Obi-Wan, as the cover suggested. Although I was disappointed by that, the story overall was okay. Qui-Gon is kind of an asshole in this? When is he not, though. We really get to sink our teeth into the way he and Obi-Wan fundamentally disagree with each other, so much so that their teacher-student relationship is falling apart. Tragic! They go on one last mission before calling it quits. Qui-Gon is in over his head with prophecies, Obi-Wan just wants to follow the rules, and Rael Averross is Dooku’s previous apprentice that is living his best life as a regent until Pijal’s princess comes of age. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a solid book. I just don’t vibe with Qui-Gon and want to whack him upside the head every time he avoids confrontation with his own student. My protectiveness for Obi-Wan is showing again, isn’t it? Yikes.
17. James Luceno is one of the most analytical authors I’ve ever read anything from, but it seems to always work? Tarkin is all about...well, Moff Tarkin. He’s ruthless, intelligent, and just downright evil. His backstory was compelling and I found myself drawn into the story by the details, although it is dense and took awhile to finish. I’m not interested in him as a character, but despite that, I enjoyed this story. The plot wasn’t memorable enough for me to recall after 3 years, but it’s similar to how Thrawn rose through the ranks of the Navy, just in a different part of the Empire’s governing body. We don’t get many books completely focused on a villain (I don’t count Vader ones because we know who he was before and the whole damn saga is about him), but this one is good! Don’t be fooled by it only being in the Knight tier. I think people who read a lot of sci-fi will like this book a lot. This is like the opposite of Queen’s Shadow, basically. If you had gripes about that book, you might like this one instead.
18. Battlefront II: Inferno Squad was a worthwhile read for anyone who played Battlefront II. Iden Versio is a great protagonist in the game, and I think Christie Golden totally gets her character. She’s nuanced and relatable. The whole team is interesting and getting introduced to each member before the events of the game makes everything mean more. That’s the real goal of any prequel story, I think. Accomplished! The action scenes are on point, the plot served to highlight what makes Inferno Squad special, and you get a sense for the morally grey area anyone must function in as an operative for the Empire. Although not necessary for the greater canon, it’s a great adventure. Iden and her squad members infiltrate the remains of Saw Gerrara’s group (they’ve become a bit of extremist) and destroy them from the inside. It’s got the suspense of a spy thriller and all of the nerdy space opera elements you expect from Star Wars. Although it’s weird to jump into a story not knowing any of the characters, you’ll get attached to Inferno Squad fast. Well, except for Gideon Hask maybe. He’s kind of a dick.
19. If you’re craving some Dark Side action, Lords of the Sith will give you what you’re looking for. Sidious and Vader crash-land on Ryloth and have to work together to survive, and also defeat the Free Ryloth Movement led by Cham Syndulla. It’s all fucking connected, guys. I love when people weave together stories that fit into the canon timeline like this, bringing in side characters and allowing them to develop some depth. And a chance to sink into the mind of a Sith Lord is always fun, if you’re in the mood to read about destruction and anger. It’s cathartic sometimes. If you’re always wondering, why didn’t Vader just stab Palps when he had the chance, this book explains their dynamic more. It didn’t really change my opinion of any of the characters, which is why it’s not higher on the list.
20. Catalyst suffered from being in a really boring part of galactic history. Despite that, Galen Erso and Orson Krennic have a hilarious relationship that I would have loved to see on-screen. This book really develops Krennic to become more than just the whiny entitled evil man we saw in Rogue One. He’s ten times worse now! But I mean that in the best way, I laugh whenever he’s in a scene, that sassy man just brings me joy. James Luceno is at it again, making things as detailed and dry as possible. I read so many of his stories right at the beginning of my journey through Star Wars canon and it’s a wonder I didn’t quit. Some of them are dark as fuck. And also slow as hell. With this one, I think it all comes down to what you want out of a Star Wars novel. Some people will really enjoy the plot. I think seeing how Galen became a part of Project Stardust was interesting and every time something about the Death Star became more clear, I screeched because I knew what it would eventually become. This book may not hold your interest though, which is why I put it lower on this list.
21. Star Wars: Clone Wars was a decent retelling of the Clone Wars movie. I liked it because I liked the movie, but you have to be able to sit back and enjoy the ride, not thinking too much about the silly parts. For that reason, it’s pretty far down in the rankings. Ahsoka is young and liable to get on your nerves. I certainly wasn’t her biggest fan at this point in the series. The biggest problem is that Karen Traviss is very anti-Jedi. Some authors for Star Wars tend to do this? To me, it’s weird. I didn’t notice it too much because it was one of the first Star Wars books I read, but it contrasts starkly with the truth of the prequel trilogy and some of the other entries in the Clone Wars Novel timeline, like Karen Miller’s books. Needless to say, although this book wasn’t super memorable aside from the familiar plot, it kept me reading Star Wars books, and so it is at least an average book. Plus, any content with Anakin and the clones is worth it for me. I love them.
22. A New Hope was good, for Alan Dean Foster. I’m not a fan, I’ll be honest. But this novelization stands on it’s own. I’m going to have to do a re-read to really go in depth on why this isn’t farther up on the tier list, but the movie is always going to be better to me. If you want to re-live the great beginning of the Original Trilogy, it’s worth your time. I mean, the story is full of adventure and mystery and lovable characters. What’s not to love? I just feel like the movie really elevates the narrative with a great score and fun character design/costumes/sets.
Padawan: These Books Have Much to Learn
23. Attack of the Clones was more entertaining than The Phantom Menace because the characters are in funnier situations. Obi-Wan and Anakin chasing Zam Wesell through the levels of Coruscant? Hilarious, just like the movie. Anakin and Padme falling in love as they spend time together? Holy fuck it’s so much better than the movie. Please read it for that alone. Outside of that, the writing style didn’t really impress me. And my experience with it wasn’t super memorable. There was potential to really make the inner dialogue of these characters impactful, to really develop the story of Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme beyond what we could get from the movie scenes alone. I didn’t think it went above and beyond there. Not a bad story at all, but you don’t get to look at Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, or Ewan McGregor the whole time either, so therefore I must rank it lower. So many beautiful people in that movie, holy shit. You can understand my, dilemma, yes?
24. I enjoyed parts of The Phantom Menace book, like deleted scenes with Anakin living on Tatooine before Qui-Gon and Padme meet him. The additional depth is lovely, but I think a story like Queen’s Peril adds more to TPM than this book does. The story overall is still fun. I love this movie so much, it’s hard for me to be critical. I did put a lot of post-it flags in my copy, so it does develop the characters and get you thinking beyond your expectations from the movie. What more could you ask for from a movie novelization? I’d say not much, if I hadn’t read Revenge of the Sith and had my fucking mind blown. In comparison to that, this one is just okay.
25. The Last Jedi novelization wasn’t bad, necessarily. It tried its best to bring this story up to par with some of the interesting novels that don’t have movie counterparts. But still, the plot suffers because of how this movie was made. It’s very focused on Rey and Kylo, and Finn’s little adventure with Rose seems pointless in the grand scheme of things. I’d rather read this again versus watching the film, but that’s all I’ll say on this because I’m trying to keep my opinions on this movie to myself to avoid digging up old arguments. Jason Fry did well, and of the two Sequel Trilogy books I’ve read, I would recommend this one over Ep. 7.
26. The Force Awakens falls short and I think it’s because of Alan Dean Foster’s writing style on this one? It didn’t really expand on anything from the movie, while taking away the beautiful music and visuals. This novel is the antithesis of Revenge of the Sith’s novelization, and for that reason I ranked it fairly low. I wouldn’t read this one unless you really really love the Sequel Trilogy.
27. To be fair, I read the new Thrawn book before I went back and read this one. Even so, Heir to the Empire didn’t impress me at all. Thrawn didn’t seem like a thrilling villain with lots of depth like he did in Timothy Zahn’s reimagined Thrawn novel. We barely saw him. A lot of time was spent on the Original Triology’s trio, which waasn’t bad. I thought Luke, Leia, and Han were all written fairly well. The latter part of the story was redeemed by the interactions between Mara Jade and Luke, for sure. Enemies to lovers, anyone?? Without Thrawn, this book would have been an entertaining story, but for all of the praise it has received from long-time Star Wars fans, I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn’t. Maybe I have to continue the triology to figure out what all of the fuss is about, but after this one, I’m not super motivated to read more. Change my mind?
28. Cloak of Deception really shines when you’re following Palpatine’s perspective because you can feel the undercurrents of his master plan to destroy the Republic underneath his calm persona as a Senator. Other than that, it’s a forgettable plot. This is all about galactic politics and some terrorist group trying to blow up some government officials. Basically the most boring parts of the prequel trilogy. I listened to the audiobook of this at the beginning of this year and I already forget what it’s about. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan should have been able to bring some humor and energy to get you rooting for the good guys,  but there was barely any of that. I was disappointed in all of the characters. Everything felt distant, removed from the heart of the characters. Some people in reviews have argued that the events of The Phantom Menace really pinned this novel in a corner because you already know what happens, but I disagree, because we know how Revenge of the Sith goes and The Clone Wars show is that much more tragic and heartbreakingly beautiful because of it. Prequels can be done right. This ain’t it, Luceno. Sorry.
29. Star Wars: The Old Republic, Fatal Alliance needs to go home and rethink it’s life. I’m a huge fan of the Old Republic and I’ve put like 200 hours of my life into playing that game, so I was hoping for some fun content in this part of the timeline. Sadly, this book captured the worst parts of the game, like the fact that there’s way too many factions at war with each other. Jedi, Sith, Empire, Republic, Mandalorians. They’re all here. They’re all ready to throw down. And I’m tired. As with many of the books in this lower tier, I felt there wasn’t enough description of the world or the people in the story. We’re in the gffa, be a little weird and wacky. Be big and bold! Make things terrifying, or beautiful, or both. But give my mind something to work with. The number of characters made the plot messier than it could have been, and it definitely isn’t worth the read. I can’t speak for all Old Republic books, but this one didn’t impress me.
A Sith Lord?! On My Bookshelf? It’s More Likely Than You’d Think
30. So underwhelming, you might as well just read the first half and then stop. Last Shot is absolutely terrible, except for Lando Calrissian’s characterization, which was spot-on. If the whole story had been from his perspective, I probably would have a much difference opinion on the novel as a whole. Sadly, this is not the case. Han was boring, he bottled up his emotions, and seemed drastically different from the badass he was in the original trilogy. There are different timepoints in this novel, and in all of them, Han is unrecognizable. Don’t nerf one of your main characters like that. Daniel Jose Older and I might just not get along. I thought his writing style didn’t fit Star Wars at all. It was like breaking the fourth wall, totally pulling me out of the story constantly. Also, there were little to no descriptions of body language, locations, or movement. It left me feeling disoriented the whole time I was reading. I thought one of the most interesting things would have been seeing Han, Leia, and baby Ben being a family at this point in time, but Han’s family was there as a prop, nothing more. There was a big bad item that was going to cause galactic destruction and our heroes had to go save the day. There was barely any tension and no one lost an arm so I’m pretty pissed off. Is it Star Wars if no one gets their appendage removed? I can’t tell you how much I disliked this book. Which is sad because I was hoping to enjoy it. I like Han. I like Lando. I like space adventures. I’m not that hard to please, or at least I don’t think so.
The divorced fic was so cute i want to scream. Does Obi have any time to be sad or are Anakin and his little demons always there to distract him from his infinite sadness
so i know most everyone wants to know what anakin does about The Kiss but here's a bit of light hearted angst a year before that (because humanity is inherently whatever but i am inherently evil)
aka
the immediate aftermath of the Router Incident (1.4k)
The night of the day of what will come to be known as The Router Incident starts off with a bang.
Obi-Wan gets home a bit later than normal. Not because his work drags on longer than usual, but because he is, on the subject of all things even passably related to his personal life, a coward.
It’s been at least ten hours since he left the house with the goddamn wifi router tucked under his arm because Anakin had said something about finding a new place.
As if this isn’t the twenty-first century. As if Anakin doesn’t have a phone with unlimited data. As if Anakin isn’t the sort of person to walk five miles to the nearest coffeeshop with his kids in their stroller, just to use their wifi to email Obi-Wan a series of italicized question marks.
Obi-Wan’s been practicing his apology ever since he got that email. I’m really sorry, I promise I’m not a controlling megalomaniac. I just panicked because I’m not that good at letting go of things. You’d think I’d have learned by now, but apparently I only know how to dig my heels in whenever I think people are starting to pull away. Apologies again, life is not a game of tug-of-war, and I promise I do know that.
He practices his apology, of course, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t also try to put it off until the last possible moment. When he leaves the building, his car is the only one still in the lot.
I’m really sorry. Here’s the router back. I support your decision. Your kids will be great. I know you probably won’t let them see me, because that’s a bit weird if we don’t all live together, and you also don’t use social media, which is great because I also don’t use social media, but I would have made a Facebook account just to keep up with your family. It’s meant more than I can say to have something to come home to this past year, and I understand that you can’t put your life on hold for a lonely old man like me, and I will endeavor from now on to not impede your search for a new place to live.
No, too needy, he thinks at a red light, dragging his hand over his beard in defeat. He won’t beg Anakin to stay.
He would very much like to beg Anakin to stay, but he hadn’t even begged Satine to stay, and he had been in love with her.
He just enjoys Anakin’s company. His presence. Unwinding next to Anakin after a difficult day teaching is one of the things he looks forward to the most.
And this past holiday season, they’d had a big dinner at his house, filled to the brim with Anakin’s friends and his friends and some people from the local grocery store they’d met when out shopping together, and it had been so loud and so amazing. Nothing had been left untouched, there had been food on the ceiling (Obi-Wan suspects Leia to this day, but Luke had confessed), there had been leftovers for days.
You can’t just give me holidays like that and then take them away, Obi-Wan thinks angrily as he turns into his neighborhood. What will I do next winter, then?
He has to sit in his car for a second after parking, just to calm down. He’s the one in the wrong, he reminds himself. Anakin has all the right in the world to want to leave. It was never Obi-Wan’s family to begin with.
It was never Obi-Wan’s family to begin with.
When he opens the door, he’s met with the sound of children screaming and crying.
Luke rushes at him and jumps on him with enough force that he reels backwards, almost out of the house. He drops his bag on the floor in order to steady the child.
Luke is bawling his head off right next to Obi-Wan’s ear so it’s very, very difficult to hear what a red-faced Anakin is trying to say.
And then Leia runs up to him, tugs at his free hand until he looks down at her, and then stomps her little foot with a scowl. “I hate you!” she declares just as loudly as Luke is crying, before her tiny face breaks into tears and she runs off.
“Oh, for the love of--” Anakin shouts, throwing his hands up in the air and chasing after his daughter.
Obi-Wan, ridiculously hurt beyond measure and without a clue about what’s happening, goes to sit down on the couch, still gently cradling Luke’s body to his as the boy continues to weep.
“Hush,” he says soothingly. “And, ah. Please tell me what’s gotten into the Skywalkers now.”
Luke only sniffles and rubs his snotty nose all over Obi-Wan’s shoulder.
Well. It’s laundry day tomorrow anyway.
“Daddy says you hate us,” Luke mumbles, just as Anakin comes back into the living room, notably sans Leia.
Obi-Wan feels his mouth fall open in shock. “Daddy says what?” he asks, very slowly, making dangerous eye contact with Anakin over the top of Luke’s blond head.
Anakin flushes an even darker shade of red and looks around the room, as if that’ll save him.
“Daddy says we gotta go because this is your house and we don’t wanna stay over our, um. Welcome. We can’t reproach on your space, which means you hate us.”
“Encroach,” Anakin corrects, which Obi-Wan does not think is the thing that really needs to be corrected. When he tries to communicate this with his eyes, Anakin gulps and says quite quickly, “I’m gonna go check on Leia actually.”
Coward.
“Luke,” Obi-Wan says gently. “Your daddy is just being very, very dumb, a trait I pray with all my heart skips a generation.”
Luke blinks at him, his little eyebrows furrowed and his button nose bright red from all of his crying.
“I don’t hate you at all,” Obi-Wan says. “I love both you and your sister very much.”
“Then why do we gotta leave?” Luke complains. “I don’t want to go, we could never play Space Pirates and Lava Dragons at the old place, it was way too small.”
Obi-Wan thinks privately that his house, while certainly big enough, is by no means the proper size for how rambunctious the twins get when they’re playing Space Pirates and Lava Dragons.
“Well,” Obi-Wan hums consideringly. “I don’t want you to leave either.”
“You don’t?” Luke asks, eyes wide and hopeful.
Obi-Wan shakes his head. “I really don’t. But it’s not my decision to make, Luke.”
“It’s Daddy’s,” Luke concludes, head hanging low. “And Daddy wants to go.”
Obi-Wan ignores the way that sentence drives what feels like a knife straight through his heart. “Yes, well,” he coughs. “Your daddy won’t do anything he knows you and your sister really don’t want.”
Luke looks contemplative. Obi-Wan wonders if he should feel really bad or downright awful for manipulating a child in this way. But needs must.
“And he won’t listen to me,” he continues gently, smoothing down the front ends of the boy’s soft hair. “Because your daddy can be very stubborn when he thinks he’s doing something right.”
“He’ll listen to me and Leia though?” Luke asks, head cocked and eyes bright.
Obi-Wan nods very seriously. “I think he would if you both asked very nicely and thought about a lot of good reasons why you should stay here.”
“I can think of loads! And Leia can think of a ton more probably!” Luke exclaims with renewed energy, launching himself off of Obi-Wan’s lap and up the stairs, ostensibly to their shared bedroom.
Obi-Wan leans back against the couch, equal parts amused, exhausted, and hurt. He’ll need to have a serious talk with Anakin soon. He’d thought the man knew that his home was his as well. Yes, Anakin still paid rent, an unfortunate but necessary sort of system, but they’ve never been normal roommates. And Anakin isn’t a guest who could overstay his welcome.
He’s. Well.
Obi-Wan doesn’t know exactly what Anakin is to him, but he had hoped it was obvious to Anakin at least that Obi-Wan would not ever grow tired of his presence in his life.
So they do have some things to talk about.
But hopefully this means that Obi-Wan won’t actually have to apologize for the router incident, seeing as Anakin’s fuck-up caused much larger waves.
No longer the Seth Rogen to my James Franco.
Obi-wan x senator!reader.
Tumblr media
Summary: Imagine having to deny your feelings for the Jedi master and him denying his too, until another person tries to court you. Kenobi fears it is too late for him.
Warnings: Angst, fluff. Oh, sorry low-key some Bi aspects,only brief.
Requested by anon and @ahsokatanolovebot
A/n: Queen of Galadriel, Is made up, based on Gaga , and low-key Cate blanchett. Galadriel is not in Star Wars but, yeah.
Word count:1.7k
Knowing Obi-wan for most of your life made living out life difficult. Him being a Jedi and you being a senator; you didn't see him too often.  However, since the Jedi council was so involved with politics it was not impossible or unlucky.  Especially multiple times he had been assigned to watch over you or protect you from threats.
Knowing Kenobi for so long was inevitably going to lead to feelings. When did he not flirt? He'd flirt with anyone , if a glass of water was conscious he'd flirt with it. It was like he was programmed like it, maybe he was just horny from being a Jedi... They say no attachments but that doesn't mean no hookups? Doesn't matter Obi-wan never did that not that he had mentioned. You were sure he'd tell you, yeah you weren't around each other often did not mean you weren't close.
It didn't matter how hard you tried to escape your feelings, nothing worked, you couldn't exactly tell Obi-wan to bugger off. You'd be dead, he had many times saved your life,. As well as he did not deserve you pushing him away when he was nothing but a sweetheart.
Nothing between the two of you could ever happen, you knew him too well. He'd never give up being a Jedi...for you. You'd have to except that, no matter how much you loved him.
Though, there times , sorry pretty much all the time, when you felt like it wasn't just you, there was something between you two. Whether that was him just being flirty or just a really good friendship. No, no. , could not be love no way.
'We could be loversss."
"What d'you say?"
"We could be lovers, y/n."
"Stop it , Ben. Don't do this to me. What do you want me to say, you will be king?"
His lips inches from yours, his breath against your cheek. "And you, you will be queen."
"You're lying, I better not stay."
It was like he'd only want to flirt with you like he was the forbidden fruit.  You didn't know, how you'd hurt Obi-wan too. Other times, it would be you flirting him with him or both of you flirting back and forth. Depending on situations/moods.
"Obi-wan shh, my advisor is coming."  Your bodies pressed each  other in the small closet in your office,  The closet so small, Obi-wans face was pressed against the B crook of your neck as  he tried not to laugh. Your arms throw around his neck.  His lips tickling the nerves in the tissue of your neck, you had meant to twitch.
Oh, he already knew you were ticklish, you had just refreshed his memory, a smirk upon his face as his finger tips travelled up your body slowly.
"B-Ben!"
To say the least your advisor soon left the room, to give you privacy, she just didn't know Obi-wan. Take you in an office? He could never , it would have to be a pirate ship or something, if he ever did or if you ever wanted to do that task. However, tickling you in your office absolutely.
After years of not knowing his true feelings, you tried to get back into work again. Well, until you met someone new. She was this lady that was well respected in her home world, that had travelled to Corellia where you were senator.  In fact she wasn't just well respected but she was the Queen.  She had travelled far to meet you, claiming she admired your work.
To say the least when you met her you stunned, this woman was stunning. She looked exactly like Lady gaga, which the hair she had none, yet a crown rested against her head. She radiated dominance. Instead of dresses and jewels  as you might expect for a Queen. Her body was laced with armour , her glove though was covered with diamonds and at the end of her pointer finger there was a knife type thing.
She was a very beautiful woman, you were shocked at her behaviour at dinner, she was flirting with you. More than Obi-wan.
"Now Senator y/l/n, I must know is there anyone in your life at the moment?" The simple strokes of her fingers on the table cloth, leaning back causally waiting for your response.
"Oh, uhm, no one and please just y/n." A nod of her head, as she watched you become a little nervous.
"Very well, but you seem unsure."
"I was there was someone, they cannot be with me even if they did want to, it's against their culture."
"Oh, that's very unfortunate for such a beautiful woman." You had turned from your food to look behind you before turning back to the woman.
" Oh-I, sorry , I thought you were looking in the mirror."
After that there were a few more dinners, each more she was more forward to flirt. By the last one you knew she was not just doing it for no reason she had an intention. From then on you'd receive flowers, food, clothing, you name it. You knew she was offering a courtship, but you didn't know whether to accept.
Rowena was really a gorgeous woman and presented her feelings freely. It was just not the same, not like Obi-wan, he had never showed any sign that he would give up being a Jedi for you, at least Rowena actually liked you. You could not shake Obi-wan.
The last thing you expected was Obi-wan's appearance, when you were packing supplies for another planet on lockdown via the empire, alongside Rowena's help. Unlike most Queens Rowena was hands on , and cared deeply for all living things.
"Y/n?" You had thought the voice had been in your head, you felt like he would not bugger off lately, way he using Jedi minds tricks on you? So, you'd be in love with forever. The slight jab in the side from Rowena confirmed you weren't the only one who heard.
Turning around on the balls of your feet, face to face with Obi-wan, a tired Obi-wan. His body slightly hunched , bags under his eyes-don't fall for it.
"Obi-wan you're back." Rowena had turned to look at the man too, noticing your face, your tone , this was the man you spoke of. Her eyes catching Obi-wan his eyes scanning her briefly before looking back to you.
"Oh! Sorry, Obi-wan this is Rowena-The Queen of Galadriel, w-we ar-"
"Friends, unless you choose to accept, Y/n. Nice meeting you...Kenobi." With that she had left you with Obi-wan not before pressing a kiss to your cheek. You hadn't know what she had been planning, she knew you were hopelessly in love with Obi-wan even if she did habour feelings for you, she was going to help you.
"Accept what?" He had gotten closer, his heart was in his stomach, that was not friendly behaviour , he knew it, her longing stares on you, they way she said his name, gave him chills.
"Her courtship."
"O-oh, I am happy for you. I am just here for a week, to help." His eyes avoid yours, as he left, he wasn't happy. In fact, you had left heading to your room, your eyes heavy again, you were right he didn't like you.
Your pda with the Queen became more frequent, well it was just holding hands, laughing and the occasional hug. Every time Obi-was saw his heart felt like it was going to explode , he had never felt such jealousy, heartbreak, anger. He couldn't stand it no longer , he hadn't been there three days, you hadn't accepted the courtship let.
However, he feared it was too late. He couldn't stand it no longer, he was going to go back , see Anakin shove himself back into work. That did not happen simply because Asajj Ventress had turned up with a bunch of droids to prevent any supplies to be sent out.
That exact moment you had been walking with a smoothie in your hand. Jumping out of your skin, and thrown the smoothie all over Ventress. She did not appreciate that, so you were captured. Obi-wan had heard a commotion and that was it, he followed the sound of... talking...no fighting but with flirtatious remarks. Oh no! The disgrace.
He had decided he had enough and hid behind walls, droids, lampposts whatever he could. To say the least he had not expected to come across Rowena fight Ventress, wait was this an enemies to lovers , oh it is.. what was angry flirting quickly turning into them kissing, as Rowena gestured for Obi-wan to come out and help you.
Pulled to your feet, your restrains removed as all the droids were destroyed, Rowena had turned her head back to you, grinning. Her elbow locked with Ventress' it was clear she had forgotten or had lost interest in her mission, now in the company with a Queen leaving you with Obi-wan.
Your eyes meeting his, his hands still holding yours from helping you up, his eyes drowning, his face tired. Your skins touching warmth spreading through your body like blood, his callousness fingers gripping yours.
"I'm sorry, Y/n. I cannot watch you be with someone else; when I-I l-love you."
"I cannot be with someone else; I love you."
Okay, so you were almost Queen, Obi-wan was almost right about that, it wasn’t long after that moment the temple was destroyed and you and Obi-wan ended up in Tatooine, forever. Well, not forever...
A regretful Wolf and his Beauty
Chapter One
Beast!Rex x fem!reader.
Summary: As punishment for his actions, young prince Rex was cursed to become a monster by a witch. The only thing that saved him from his fate was an enchantress, who gave him a condition. He has to find true love in order to redeem himself and he only has until the last petal of the enchanted rose falls. Rex's family helps you by guiding your way into his heart. Rex's fate now lies in your hands."
A/N: Hey, this is a collaborative fic between myself and @ahsokatano-thetogruta. We have created a star wars the clone wars fanfic based off the story Beauty and the Beast, so we both hope that you love reading this as much as we had fun writing it. Enjoy!
It's a crisp winter's day, the untouched snow was glistening, as more beautiful soft snowflakes danced through the air, swirling around each other in time as they waltzed their way to the ground. The slowly rising sun peers over the horizon, it feels magical as the sun shines over the sparkling snow, glistening and gleaming, creating a beautiful, breathtaking winter wonderland, and the inhabitants of the royal castle start to stir, the younger kids are already running around. They were waiting Impatiently to open the nicely wrapped presents under the tree. Christmas day is finally here again.
Rex was surrounded in peace until he was abruptly awoken to the sounds of exciting cheers and shouting of his younger brothers and cousins who are now running around the halls of the castle outside of his room.
Rex groans at the sound. He tries to go back to sleep, pressing his face tightly into the pillow. He had a late night, and is absolutely exhausted.
He almost growls when his door swings open and Fives, Echo and little Stutter run in. The ten year old twins and four year old kid run over to Rex, with Fives picking up Stutter, dropping him on top of his side. Rex almost growls again, but holds it back so as not to hurt his little brother's feelings.
He turns over, Stutter sitting on his stomach now, hands against his chest. The cute smile on his face makes Rex give him a small little smile.
"Come on, Rex. It's time to get up, right Stutter?" Stutter looks at Fives, nodding happily.
"Yeah! C-C-Come on, O-Ori'vod" Rex smiles tiredly.
"Okay! I'm up Vod'ika, can you three please leave so I can get dressed." They all nod, Echo walking over and grabbing little Stutter from Rex. They all walk out.
"Hurry up, Ori'vod." Echo yells back, causing Rex to huff a little. Rex rubs his face and yawns, trying to wake up more. He feels like he could go right back to sleep for the rest of the day, but that's not happening. He sits up, stretching his arms and legs out.
Once he's half woken himself up, he hops out of bed, padding over to the wardrobe slowly. He looks through his collection of clothes, finding his favorite shirt inside. He smiles, grabbing it and a nice brown pair of pants. Once fully dressed, he starts walking towards the door to leave his quarters.
On his way, Rex's vision goes slightly blurry and his eyes struggle to stay open from fatigue, so he yawns again, but because he couldn't see where he was walking, he clumsily stumbles into a small table making him curse as he snaps his eyes shut for a second. When he opens them again, he can see a vase wobbling around on its base, almost ready to topple over at any second. It all happens in slow motion and Rex is unable to move quickly enough to stop it from hitting the ground.
It makes a loud crash as it shatters into a thousand pieces. Rex feels his frustration earlier come rushing back to him, his annoyance growing with every passing second. A few moments later, he hears his door swing open. Without bothering to turn around to see who it is, his words come out snappy. "Don't you know how to knock?" He turns around to see Cody standing in the doorway. "Oh...sorry Cody. I didn't mean to lash out like that."
"It's alright, Vod'ika. I heard a loud noise so I just needed to make sure that you were okay, I was worried for you." Cody smiles knowing that Rex is okay, he saw the frustration on his face for a second after he turned around. "Are you okay?"
Rex feels a guilt wash over him like a ferocious wave, regretting being so rude, especially in front of his Ori'Vod. "I'm sorry, Cody. I accidentally bumped into it." Cody smiles kindly at Rex, he knows that it's not his fault.
"It's fine, Vod'ika. It was an accident. I'll clean it up, are you okay, you look frustrated." Rex nods, Cody's been here for him ever since their parents died two years ago. The reason Rex is crown prince is because Cody and his other brother Bly didn't want the crown.
"I didn't sleep well last night, and I was woken up by all of the noise." He mumbles a bit, still tired.
"I'm sure you'll feel throughout the day. We have a lot of fun things planned." He says with a big smile, hoping it will make Rex feel somewhat better.
"I'm sure I will too." He thanks him with a tired smile. Being thirteen and having hormones is not making his morning any better, but he tries to power through it the best he can and hopes he'll have a good time.
"I'll meet you in the ballroom to open presents once I've cleaned this up for you."
"Thanks, Ori'Vod."
"You're welcome, Vod'ika."
It's always very busy in the kitchen on Christmas. Many Chefs are preparing the vegetables and various foods for the Christmas dinner and snacks throughout the day. Gregor is a fifteen year old chef in training after being promoted from a dishwasher to a sous chef. He was given the day off today to spend with his brothers and cousins, but asked the head chef if he could make some cookies for everyone when they all open their presents. His boss is really nice, so he lets him do what he needs to do. Gregor gets up early to start making them. He hears the younger kids start running around upstairs, waking up the oldest of the family. He chuckles thinking of the kids running into his room to find an empty bed, he won't be woken up by someone jumping on him this year.
Gregor grabs all the ingredients he’ll need for the cookies, starting with the flour. He pours it into a bowl, there's a cloud of flour in the air after he pours but he just ignores it. He grabs the milk and eggs next, being careful to measure it correctly, the eggs are cracked in a separate bowl then, once checked for shells, are poured in with everything else. Next is Gregor's favorite ingredient, sugar.
He measures out a little more than the recipe calls for since his brothers and cousins love it when he adds extra into the mixture, because they all have a big sweet tooth. He mixes it in, giving the batter a quick taste. Once he finds that the taste is good he adds the baking powder and butter, checking the taste just to make sure it's still good.
Once the batter has reached the desired consistency and sweetness, he grabs a selection of Christmas spices from a cupboard and places them on the counter. He separates the batter into 3 different bowls, each one for a different flavour. He will make some cinnamon, ginger and vanilla cookies, though he makes about a batch more of cinnamon cookies because almost everyone goes crazy over those.
He mixes in the spices in and then puts the batter onto the counter. Gregor goes to get a rolling pin and some cookie cutters shaped like Christmas trees and stars to give them that extra Christmas feel to them. He rolls out the batter evenly and then cuts some out, placing them onto a tray ready to go into the oven. Once they are all cut out and placed on baking trays, he puts them into the oven that was preheated earlier on and then grabs a sand timer that will tell him in 20 minutes that the cookies will be baked and ready. He turns over the small timer and takes it with him so he can join everyone to start opening presents.
Rex sits in a circle with the kids, everyone between the ages of 2 to 15 is there. They all have presents in their laps, ready to be opened, the older kids and adults just have to give the say. Cody walks into the room, glancing around and smiling.
“Okay, you can all open your present now!” 99 calls out, he's the oldest among them and is everyone's uncle. All the kids start ripping open their presents, Rex feels a little bit of fear for Anakin's present when he starts to shake it.
“Be careful, ani. You’ll hurt him.” the twelve year old knight in training looks at Rex with wide eyes.
“Him?” he asks, setting the box down gently. He rips it open, hearing a bark when he opens it. He gasps loudly.
“A PUPPY!!!!” he yells, hugging the young dog to his chest. Rex smiles at his best friend's happiness, it was hard work keeping the puppy a secret. And getting it into the box a little while ago was tough, he had to ask Obi Wan for help. The older knight was surprised when Rex had asked him about getting Anakin a puppy, but agreed. He could see why Cody loved the guy. Anakin put the puppy down, pouncing on Rex.
“Thanks Rex, I love him!”
"Aw, he's so cute! What will you name him, Skyguy?" Anakin looks to his left to see Ahsoka petting his new dog gently on its head.
He smiles at her, she's only three years old but he finds her so enthusiastic and sweet "Hmm…" Anakin thinks for a moment, looking deeply into the puppy's eyes. "I'll call him Artoo!" He says, and the puppy lets out a little bark and wags his tail. Anakin feels tears of happiness well in his eyes as he hugs him close to his chest again, feeling Artoo snuggle into him.
After a few moments of admiring the adorable sight, Rex sees Stutter hand him a present. "Here y-y-you go R-R-Rex. T-T-This is f-for you."
Rex takes the wrapped up box from Stutter,smiling as he does so. "Thank you." He is only four years old, so the wrapping is a little bit untidy, but he is just so sweet and thoughtful. He peels back the paper to reveal a box with a lid. Discarding the wrapping paper on the floor, he carefully lifts off the lid to reveal a drawing inside. "Wow! This is so good, I love it. Thank you very much, Vod'ika!" Rex thanks Stutter, making him smile and then giving him a big hug. "Is that me and you that you've drawn?"
"Y-Yeah! We are p-p-playing t-t-together." He grins, happy that Rex loves his present. Stutter loves art so much, so any chance he gets to do something creative he will go and make more pieces of artwork.
While everyone is busy exchanging presents and making conversation with one another, the air is filled with a delightful and sweet aroma, making the ballroom feel even more Christmassy. Gregor notices that the sandtimer has almost run out, so he gets up and heads to the kitchen.
Rex watches as Hardcase rips into the wrapped present, he shakes his head. He swears that Hardcase is younger than him, not the same age. Hardcase finds a jigsaw puzzle inside, it's a puzzle of knights in shining armor, riding their horses into battle.
“This is awesome!”
“Did you remember to check who it's from?” Rex asks, Hardcase makes a sheepish expression.
“Oops!” he looks around. Finding the name tag, it says that it's from Jesse.
“Thanks Jesse!” hardcase yells to the twenty year old, who smiles.
“Your welcome, Vod’ika!” Hardcase laughs, he absolutely cannot wait to put it together.
Not a moment later, Gregor returns with some plates of his freshly baked cookies. Everyone's eyes go wide as he starts to hand them out to everyone. They always love his baking, especially his Christmas cookies, they are his speciality.
Rex runs over to Gregor, grabbing a handful of cookies. He runs them back over to the group, handing them to Anakin, Hardcase, Ahsoka, Stutter and everyone else in the group. Each person gets one for now to be fair, they'll have more once the presents are all done.
Ahsoka is next to open a present. She rummages through the various other presents under the tree until she finds one with her name on it. It's wrapped in silvery white paper with snowflakes and has a big blue ribbon tied around it. The tiny Togruta's eyes light up and the cutest smile graces her face. "Found mine!" Ahsoka exclaimed excitedly. She runs back over to her Ori'Vod.
Ahsoka lost her family about a year ago and Rex took her in, taking care of her and it wasn't long before everyone in the castle became her new family. She is so happy to have so many great brothers and cousins there for her. When they found out that she could use the force, Obi-Wan suggested that Anakin should be her mentor in her training to become a knight when she is old enough.
"Who's it from, Soka?" Anakin asks, still petting Artoo in his lap.
"It's from…" she searches the box for the label and then reads it out loud. "Rex."
Rex smiles at her kindly. "Go ahead, open it. But be careful with it."
Ahsoka nods and her eyes sparkle with excitement as she begins to peel back the paper, revealing a wooden box. She holds it and looks a bit confused at it for a moment.
"Here, you open it like this." Rex gets up from his chair and crouches down next to her, showing her how to open it. She then opens it all the way.
There's a little ballerina posing as if she was dancing. The lady is wearing a cute pink dress and has a pair of slipper silhouettes in the same colour as the dress. Her hair is tied up in a bun with a ribbon.
“I tried to get you a Togrutan one, but I couldn’t find one anywhere, sorry.” Rex says apologetically, he searched for one for weeks but they were always sold out or just didn't sell them.
"It's okay, I love it so much! Thank you, Ori'Vod!" She puts down the box and gives Rex a big hug, wrapping her arms around his neck. Rex chuckles and hugs her back.
"You're welcome, Soka. There is something else to it as well." Ahsoka looks at him puzzled, not sure about what he means. Rex picks up the box and shows her the little key on the back. "Turn this around a few times and see what happens."
"Okay!" She is excited to see what happens. When she lets go of the key, the ballerina starts to turn around as music from inside the box plays a beautiful song. Ahsoka is in love with this gift. "Wow! Thank you so much, I love it!"
"You're very welcome." Rex smiles at her and then she runs off to another room to carry on listening to the melody that the box produces, completely amazed with her present.
Kyalin Week Day 6
Prompt Chosen- Modern AU
Now, I know people are tired of hearing about the pandemic, however when I saw Modern Au as an option on there I just had to write Kyalin during quarantine... it was too tempting.
"We have to quarantine at home for two weeks, its mandatory." Kya explained.
"I want even at the hospital, how could I have gotten it?"
"Because I was at the hospital, I could have it, and spread it to you." Lin crossed her arms, releasing a dramatic groan.
"Come on Lin, I know it's not ideal, and I'm sorry, but look on the bright side. We get two weeks off, just the two of us. We could, you know, try that thing you mentioned the other night."
"That was you who mentioned that."
"Well you didn't shoot it down, so its both our ideas now." Lin sighed, pursing her lips and Kya wrapped her in a hug.
"Alright, but as soon as my two weeks are up I'm going back to work."
"Of course." Kya kissed her on the cheek, watching as Lin disappeared into the bedroom. Her eyes panned the apartment, it looked like it could use a clean, so she got to work.
"What are we going to do for food?" Lin asked, staring into the empty fridge.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, Kya, we have no food in here." Kya came up behind her, placing her chin in the nook of her neck, frowning at the sight of the fridge light that illuminated nothing but the shelves.
"We eat out too much. I can call Tenzin maybe he can bring us some supplies."
"No, Tenznin will bring us a very selective diet and If I'm going to be in here for two weeks then I need real food. You know Kya, these abs don't feed themselves." Kya raised an eyebrow, moments away from kissing Lin, when the earthbender pulled out her phone.
"Mako? Okay... okay... look, I'm out for two weeks. Try not to start a gang war while I'm gone. I need you to do something for me."
"Tell him to get KitKat!" Kya said, Lin raised a finger, telling Mako to get a pen and paper.
"You ready?" Lin asked him, and began to fill him in on their grocery desires.
"Pretzels too! I could use pretzels right about now..." Lin added pretzels to list of demands. Finally when they were satisfied with the list, they hung up the phone.
"He says he'll be around in an hour. He went to get Asami because he's never gotten groceries on this scale before."
"Smart."  Kya smiled up at Lin, who was checking her phone. "So..." Kya said, drumming her fingers on the counter, "what should we do for an hour?" Lin looked up, putting her phone face down on the counter.
"Well you're practically undressing me with your eyes."
"Am not!"
"Oh yeah?. What color bra do I have.on today?" Kya pursed her lips, thinking.
"White."
"Wrong, black."
"What? No.I remember this morning you-" she stopped as Lin pulled open her flannel, revealing the black bra she was indeed wearing.
"You tricked me." Lin smirked, walking around the counter and planting a kiss on Kya's lips.
"I have some paperwork to get done, call me when Mako gets here." Lin smirked as she walked off, and Kya glared at her, running her tongue over her teeth. Thinking about how there's no one else she'd rather be quarantined with.
Mako knocked, letting them know their things were outside their door, as per standard, they waited until the two kids had left before picking up their things, Lin put four bags on her arms, gesturing for Kya to take the remaining two. She put the stuff on the counter, and watched as Kya took the time to wipe everything with Lysol.
"Kya," Lin said seriously, "are you worried at all? About this whole thing?"
"Like being quarantined? No not all."
"No, not that, I mean more like the pandemic in general."
"Oh. I haven't really thought about it, but yeah, I guess I am. I'm worried about mom, I know she's safe as she could be in the south pole, but this isn't how I want her to go. Are you worried about Toph?"
"Are you kidding me? The woman couldn't die if she tried!" They laughed, and Lin put her hands behind her, gripping the edge of the counter. "In all serious, I'm more worried about the people, the news says the unemployment rate has sky rocketed in the last few days."
"Lin?" Kya asked, putting the wipes down. "We're good right? Financially?"
"Oh dear, of course. I've been working for thirty years, saved up as much as I could not to mention my share of the Beifong fortune... its not me I worry about."
"Mako?"
"Yeah."
"He'll be alright, we won't let anything happen to him. I bet Asami and Korra already have a plan for him that he's completely unaware of in case things go south." Lin smiled and Kya lifted her lips to Lin's scarred cheek.
"Come on," she said, "help me put this stuff away."
The two of them cooked together for supper, and Lin almost forgot what it was like to be home for supper, let alone to cook it.
"Okay I think I got it," Kya said, lifting the spoon to her mouth.
"Kya, that's the stirring spoon you can't lick it and put back."
"Oh yeah? Watch me." Kya drew her tongue over the spoon, maintaining eye contact with Lin and causing her to blush. Lin gulped, breaking the eye contact and Kya returned the spoon to the pot, stirring the sauce again. Lin went for the sink, grabbing Kya's butter as she went past.
"Lin!" She yelped, swatting her girlfriend playfully on the shoulder.
"I didn't do anything!"
"Yeah right!"
"I swear!" Kya narrowed her eyes, seeing through Lin's weak attempt to hide a smile.  Lin set the salad and the bread on the table, ordering the plates and glasses across form each other, lighting a candle in the center.
"Whats going on?" Kya asked, looking at Lin's arrangement.
"I figure, since we're here, I might as well make up for all the date nights I've had to reschedule, or cancel, and never got around to it." Kya looked at her thoughtfully, putting her pot on the table.
"You're telling me I've been on a date this whole time and didn't know?"
"Yep. Surprise," Kya stifled a laugh and sat across from Lin, staring at the other girl lovingly.
"Well, you should know I don't usually go home with someone on the first date."
"Well good thing its not the first date then." Kya raised her eyebrows, her eyes still locked with Lin as she brought a piece of food to her mouth. Lin caught Kya up on everything in her life, the abnormally quiet Pice Chief talked on and on, and Kya listened, absorbing every word of it.
"Kya?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you finished?"
"Oh, yeah,' she said, sitting up. Lin took her plate, and Kya admired her from behind.
"Lin," she said, "put the dishes down."
"What?"
"We'll do them tomorrow. Please, just kiss me already."
"What if you have Covid?" Kya chuckled.
"Then we'll both have it anyway." She pushed herself off her chair, meeting Lin halfway across the kitchen, their lips meeting in an epic dance. Kya jumped, wrapping her legs around Lin's waist and the metalbender's hands found places underneath Kya's thighs to hold her. Lin set her on the kitchen counter, pushing her abdomen in between Kya's legs.
"Been a while since we've done this," Lin admitted between breaths.
"We haven't had time."
"Well, now we have two weeks to make up for it." Kya smiled as Lin's lips clashed with hers again.
"I love you," Kya whispered.
"I love you too."
1 week of quarantine
"Wait so what happened in the last movie?" Kya asked, just to get a rise out of Lin.
"Kya, were you even paying attention? Qui Gon and Obi-wan, master and Padwan head to the desolate planet of Tattooine where they-"
"Lin, I'm kidding." Lin rolled her eyes and Kya cuddle in close, reaching her arm over into the popcorn bowl on Lin's lap.
"Don't do that again or I'll spoil it for you." Kya laughed, pressing a light kiss on Lin's cheek. When Kya had mentioned she'd never seen a Star Wars movie, Lin had organized a rather professional viewing of them all, in chronological order. Kya would much rather be doing something else, but she could see how excited Lin was to watch them with her, so she did. All the good (and bad) the movied had to offer.
"Whos that?"
"Anakin."
"The little boy?"
"Yeah, there's a time gap."
"Wow, he's so grown up."
"Just you wait," Lin said, placing a fistful of popcorn in her mouth. Befoee the movie could get any further, the phone rang, and Lin got up to answer it, letting the movie play for Kya.
"Hello? Pema is that you? Hmm? No we are just- really? Is everyone okay?" Kya sat up, looking over at her girlfriend with concern.
"Theres a breakout at the air temple," Lin whispered to Kya.
Oh no, poor Pema. I hope Rohan is okay.
"Is Tenzin there? Okay, well, try to stay calm, please Pema! Where's Jinora? Put her on the phone." Lin tapped the counter, waiting for the eldest of the Airbender kids to come to the phone.
"Jinora? Is everyone okay? Ikki has it? You need to keep her away from the others, don't let Rohan out of his room, and please, try to keep you're mother calm until your father gets home tomorrow. Yes... I love you too Jinora, good bye, as soon as we can leave we'll come down there." Lin put her phone on the counter with a sigh, and Kya ran up to her.
"We have to go, I can help them!" Kya pleaded.
"No, dear, we can't help them. If we go there we are just exposing ourselves to it, and I don't like to admit but we aren't exactly spring pig-chickens anymore Kya." Kya frowned, crossing her arms.
"Lin, they are our family."
"I know Kya, but we can help them by staying here, and staying healthy. Don't forget we can be incarcerated for leaving." Kya growled, scrunched her nose and Lin reached her hand out on the counter.
"One more week to go, we got this. Remember what you told me, try to enjoy it."
"Pretty sure I said we could try that technique from that movie where I use waterbending to-"
"Well I paraphrased it." Kya's lips formed a smile, and her heart melted at the soft look Lin was giving her.
"Come on," she said, "let's watch this movie." Lin nodded and the two of them returned to the sofa, Kya resting her head on Lin's lap, her hair being tousled by the police chief. Every so often she'd look up at Lin, who was absolutely enticed by the movie, even though she said it was 'the worst one.' She fell asleep before the end, and Lin let Kya stay there long into the night, moving her only once her own bladder couldn't take it any longer, placing her in their bed. Kya groaned softly, rolling over and pulling all the blankets for herself. Lin crawled in behind her, still holding her in her arms.
3 Days until the end of quarantine.
"Kya, I know you've lost all sense of time, but you need to put clothes on."
"Whats the point? No one comes, no one goes. No one sees me. No one knows..."
"If you start speaking in poetry again I'm locking you in the bathroom."
"Go ahead, at least there I hear the voices from the drain." Kya groaned, flopping onto the couch face first. Lin sighed.
"Do you.... need to talk?" Lin almost choked on the words, but it got Kya's attention and she sat upright.
"I've always been an extrovert Lin. Im a people person and now that the people in my life have been removed... I'm just a person." Lin pursed her lips, she hadn't thought about it like that before. She had always been reserved, truthfully quarantine had been easy for her, she did daily workouts, reading... other stuff with Kya. But Kya couldn't be on her phone for more than half an hour without needing a change of space.
"I don't know how to help you with that..." Lin started, "but I can... give you a hug?" Kya smiled sadly and walked up to Lin, forgetting her nudity and hugging her.
"Lets go on the porch for a bit," Kya said, "I need some air."
"You're going to have to put some clothes on then, I don't think the neighbors will appreciate your tits being out the same way I do." Kya laughed, looking down at her torso.
"Oh they would. But fine. I'll put on some clothes, but you better be the one taking them off later."
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Kya grinned, satisfied with that, before she could dissappear into the bathroom however, Lin called to her.
"Oh, Kya!"
"Yes sweetheart?"
"Maybe we can try that thing you mentioned last week." Kyas eyes went wide, and Lin smirked.
"This is why, I love you Lin Beifong."
"I love you too. Now go get dressed, we're going to miss the warmest part of the day." Kya sped off, and Lin watched her go, the same gentle smile pulling at the corners of her lips. I could be quarantined with her for the rest of my life, and I'd never get bored. When Kya returned, she skipped onto the porch, and Lin used her bending to extend the available area for the moment. Kya sat at the edge of the concrete, letting her feet hang over the edge, humming a gentle tune. Lin sat next to her, her lips pursed in indecision.
"Kya," she said, drawing the waterbenders crystal blue eyes to her. "When this is over, we should get married." Kyas eyes widened, and for a minute Lin thought she scared her, but then she was pulled into the most passionate kiss of the their relationship, nearly sending both of them to the ground below.
Would you consider writing something short and sweet about Obi with a fellow jedi? Like maybe he comes back to the temple exhausted after a tiring mission and thinks about confronting his partner about what they're doing not being ok but then the moment they're alone she's like "I made you tea! And food! Let's cuddle!" And he thinks 'Nope, I'm definitely not ready to give this comfort up yet'
Thank you for the request! I’ve never written an obi-centric fic before but I actually really loved doing this. I hope you like it! ❤️
It’s You- Obi-Wan x gn Reader
Tumblr media
Obi-Wan walked down the ramp of his ship behind the rest of his clones. It felt good to be back on stable ground, the safety promised by the Republic’s capital where the Jedi Temple was swarming with military personnel. However, an overwhelming sense of dread had slowly been building during his flight home, replacing the pride of his victory on Won’kito with anxiety and disappointment.
He had almost blown the mission.
The bomb had been set, and the droids were booking it out of the city. There were 60 seconds left before the 212th battalion realized the city would soon be dust and rubble, and Obi-Wan was the only one who could reach through the ray shield with the force in order to disarm the bomb.
By the time he reached it, there were 15 seconds left. Citizens were being rushed out of the city as fast as possible, but there was just no way they’d make it. They had been blindsided, set up, distracted, and now they were too late.
When Obi-Wan got the code, there were 10 seconds left. He couldn’t get through the ray shield. No matter how hard he pushed and prodded and willed the force through, he kept hitting a wall.
9...8...7...
He almost left.
As the bomb flashed red with every second it counted down, his mind flashed to you. How devastated you’d be when you found out he didn’t return from his mission. How miserable you’d look in all black, standing at his funeral and trying to hide your soul-crushing grief. How you’d never forgive him for leaving so suddenly, and how much he didn’t want to say goodbye.
As the numbers flashed 6, then 5, then 4, Obi-Wan considered jumping through that broken window and scaling the building rooftops to get as far away from the blast as he could. To save himself, but doom everyone else. The thought was gone in a blink, but his bones were shaking, muscles tensing, ready to carry out his selfish plan.
It was wrong.
3...2...1...
By some otherworldly blessing, he had finally managed to push through the barrier and enter the code. The bomb screamed as the explosion circuits began, then choked off once they had been broken. Obi-Wan felt his head rush with oxygen-deprivation— he’d been holding his breath for too long, but he couldn’t move. He was shaking too much.
It was only when the ray shield died and the bomb went dark did he dare to breathe again. He clutched at his chest, gasping, feeling for his heartbeat as if surprised it was still there. Then Cody’s voice came over his com, congratulating him on a job well done.
Now, he was back on Coruscant and his legs were just starting to stop trembling. It was easy to put on his brave mask for his soldiers, to pretend like he had everything under control all along. He was good at putting up masks, at hiding his feelings. He had hidden his feelings for you from the Council for so long, after all.
But deep down, he knew that had to change. Jedi weren’t supposed to feel, they were supposed to let go. How could he preach this to Anakin at every turn if he could not do so himself?
His attachment to you had gotten the best of him, and had almost caused the destruction and death of an entire city. He had almost succumbed to the pressure of your love, almost doomed thousands of people just so that he could live. Why him? Out of everyone, why should he have gotten out alive?
He knew what he had to do, but it didn’t stop him from dreading every second of it. Each step toward the room you two shared in the Jedi temple was like a step toward the execution block. His limbs felt numb, but his chest was burning. He cursed himself for getting into this mess in the first place, knowing how wrong it was yet being unable to ignore his undying attachment to you.
Feel it, and let it go, Obi-Wan chanted to himself over and over again. His heart was already breaking for you. Your face when he’d tell you you had to stop this thing you had going. How devestated you would be, his precious little fawn, broken and crying and hurting all over. All because of him.
He opened the door slowly, swallowing the lump in his throat when he glanced around the corner and caught sight of you. You were in the kitchen, hair tied up in a sloppy bun, pouring over something on the stove with the utmost concentration. Your tongue was sticking out in that adorable way it always did when you were thinking hard, and you were wearing one of his shirts.
He leaned against the doorway, watching you for a moment. The last few seconds of peace and happiness on your face... oh, how it would kill him to see you crumble.
“Obi-Wan?” You suddenly looked up, peering around the corner at the door. Your face brightened when you saw him. “You’re back!”
His heart dropped to his feet. You came bounding up to him, a mug of tea in your hands, face beaming with excitement. “I missed you so much! Come in, you must be so tired and hungry. I’ve been making your favorite dinner all day, oh and here’s some tea...”
He let you drag him to a chair on the island where he sat before a bubbling pot. The smell was heavenly, and the mug of tea warmed his stiff hands. He was so used to coming home to a dark, empty apartment before you... he hated the thought of going back to that after he let you go.
“Are you okay?” You asked him, face falling when you noticed his silence. Obi-Wan took a deep breath, inhaling the steam from the mug to try and clear his mind, to think of the words he had to say, to force them out of his mouth—
“I’m okay.” He finally managed, chest aching. He brought his hand up to tuck some flyaway hairs behind your ear, lingering there to cup your cheek.
“You’re just very quiet. And... you look sad. Did the mission go well? I should have asked when you arrived. I apologize.”
“It’s alright, the mission was a success,” Obi-Wan said. But I need to talk to you about something... about us.
He couldn’t get the words past his lips. Not when your cheeks were flushed that perfectly pretty pink, your heart beating with a languid bliss, so happy to see him, so enamored with his presence, so in love. It would be a crime in itself to rip that away from you.
“I’m so glad you made it back unharmed,” you covered his hand on your cheek with your own, fingers dwarfed in comparison to his. His heart melted at the sight. “Now sit back and drink your tea. The food will be done in a moment— you must be starving— and then we can go lie down and rest because you look so exhausted, and I’ve already got the bed all made up and the fluffy pillows are on your side this time...”
Obi-Wan leaned forward and pressed his lips against your own. So warm. So sweet. So his. He wanted nothing more than to hold you, nothing more than to keep tasting you like this.
His mind was screaming at him to let you go, to break away and tell you that you needed to stop seeing each other. To break off this love before it became unbreakable. But it was too late. His heart soared for you, and the kiss sealed his commitment to you.
He did not want to give this up.
Not just the tea, and the food, and the warm welcome home after a long, hard mission. It was you. Every atom in his body reached out for you, called for you, and he was weak. A true Jedi would not have fallen victim to his feelings so easily, but he had never been the perfect Jedi to begin with, had he? No matter how hard he tried, no matter what mask he put on, he could not deny the hold you had over him. There was simply no way he could follow through with it, no way he could turn you away now.
“Thank you, darling,” Obi-Wan whispered against your lips. His hands gripped your waist, pulling you flush against him, and he basked in the soft, warm feeling of your body against his. No, he would never give this up. “I love you.”
