Harding looked up from the soup she was stirring for lunch as a loud knock came at the door. “One moment,” she called as she dried her hands on her apron and pushed a stray hair behind her ears.

She couldn’t believe her luck. That he really came to the tiny apartment she shared with Bellara in Treviso. The last few days had felt like a dream. Her heart light as she swung open the door with an excited grin, only for her face to fall as she saw it was just her best friend Lucanis coming to visit.

“Compi, why the long face?” he asked as he stepped inside. One smooth arm sliding around her shoulders as she let out a frustrated sigh.

“It’s… nothing Luc. I was expecting someone, but I don’t think they are coming.”

“Oh,” he replied with a tilt of his head as he smirked. “I would assume from the- interesting smells coming from the kitchen that you were attempting to make lunch for this person?”

She rolled her eyes and batted his hand away as she stalked back to the kitchen. Noting that there was a line of smoke rolling out the door from her forgotten meal.

“Shit-”

They both ran to see that the pot had boiled over. Contents spilling onto the burner. Tears welling up in Harding’s eyes as she just stood there looking at the disaster. Emotions bubbling like the broth she had been attempting to make, until it was all too much and needed somewhere to go.

But Lucanis was right there with her. Turning the knob down and moving things around her cluttered kitchen in an attempt to save the meal. Putting out one fire before he could turn to the next. Reaching for his upset friend as she fell into his reassuring hug.

“Who am I kidding?” she groaned as she ran a hand over her face. “What guy would be interested in someone like me? Especially a guy like him?”

As if in answer, her phone buzzed from the counter. And despite the day she was having, she swiftly scooped it up in hopes it was him. Lucanis only slightly peeked over her shoulder as her face lit up when she saw Rook’s name.

Hey sunshine. Traffic in this town is terrible, but I promise we are on our way. GPS says ten minutes.

“Ten minutes!” Lucanis exclaimed as Harding spun around. Her friend’s face was a mix of surprise and worry as he suddenly began rapid firing in both common and Antivan. “Mana, we must vamos. Mas rapido. Your hair! And what is this apron? Venga. I will manage the food. But you must get ready for this hombre.”

Harding was frozen in shock for only a moment, before her friend began to shove her out of the kitchen and towards her bedroom. “Oh, and Alexa play Fantasy by Mariah Carey. You need something to get you en el tono. The mood you know.”

She wanted to protest, but as Mariah started belting out notes, she knew Luc was right. She needed the help if she wanted to impress Rook, and right now she would take anything she could get. Her steps almost skipping to the beat as she mouthed the words and made her way to get changed.

"Baby I'm so into you..." echoing down the halls and into her heart.

i used to put "loyal" into like every single one of my characters' personality bios when i was a preteen so i just HAD to add it here it was nEEDED

i never put human accessories on animal characters either so i had to fulfill this trope its so FUN. i couldnt think of what wc accessory to use as a stand in for a school uniform anyway (some cool feathers or leaves that they all wear maybe??? idk). nor do i normally give cats human hairstyles!! MISSING OUT

also i deliberately capitalized SonobenoClan. it just felt right to do so here

also also i just think those hybrids that look like one half are so silly KSKSKS (cod... that concept can be so freaking cool too... lard) and i wanted to design cat sara so it only worked to our favor

the gun/cat hybrid and she/gun pronouns are such counterparts to me... it feels like the hybrid thing is oldschool silly oc trope and this is the newschool one. i love neopronouns and i love hybrids

kai is a loner/rogue who's always on the edge of their territory that they scent him but never quite invading and they cant tell if hes actually playing so they dont know if they should give him a warrior name or what...? so hes just kai. he's like midnight i think. he might give like a weird prophecy or smth on occasion. we have fun here

3 hours of work (+3 hrs of doing nothing but chatting) before my computer dropped to 100mb of storage and crashed my krita and discord at 5am and then i went to sleep at like 8am. we were only supposed to take a 20 minute break to doodle. the call went on for 8 total hours.

I didn't get an ask this time, but I still have lots to say on the new WFA episode so. Here we go.

This episode is exactly what I want from this arc. I could really go without Bruce trying to fistfight his family and instead use some more genuinely interesting conversations and situations. I really love the talk Bruce and Selina have, it adds a lot of depth to their character. Simple things like the palm touch and how she lets him put his head on his shoulder, and him actually describing himself as both a father and partner- something I didn't think was that rare until I saw it and had to pause. "They saved me" like okay damn, didn't know my heart strings needed a tug. And I love Bruce confessing that he's disappointing himself. He knows exactly what behaviors are the problem, but he doesn't know how to avoid falling in to the same trap every time. And as Selina says, it's distracting him from the puzzle he's trying to solve in the first place. It's a genuine adult conversation.

I always love when they do a flashback segment. It's so cool getting to see the histories of this version of the characters. I love that they added real history and heartbreak to the CatBat dynamic (but not any we have to endure thankfully). It makes this point in their relationship feel really earned, like we've reached endgame and are now walking through the after. The sad backstory panels of all the kids as Bruce talks to them has the same effect. It reminds you that we've really come a long way (and we see baby Cass sitting like a soldier? Tragic). I also just love the classic suits they throw in to the segments. The bright blue looks so good and vibrant, and that redesign of Selina's classic suit? Damn.

The banter between everyone felt a lot more natural and more like the WFA banter we know and love too. I feel like this kind of episode is what I was expecting projected from the beginning of season 3. Even if I did like aspects of the last few, this is where I feel the comic properly thrives.

Plus, this episode gave us Bruce being a total sub which I think is great for their dynamic, so who am I to complain.
