One of the reasons why I could never hate "have you ever thought about killing yourself?" dialouge is wondering when you ask such a question.

Because in my experience, you start that kind of conversations when you're thinking or starting to think about killing yourself.

over and over again it is emphasized that kant could leave. honestly i think he could have literally walked away at any point (did bison even tie him up that night like fadel did style? i would love to know) but even setting that aside

they are not alone on the island. bison isn't present. this man is explicitly presented as having the means to leave the island. i really can't stress enough that there is absolutely nothing preventing kant from walking away.

and the food too...like @ropebunnykant pointed out starvation is one of the abuses katherine undergoes in taming of the shrew. and yet kant is the one who is handed the food. he could eat it there. but he gives it to bison allows himself to be tied up while bison eats...

he could leave and over and over again he chooses not to. he unties himself and instead of walking away he walks toward bison. and bison knows it! he knows he gave kant an opportunity to leave and says as much.¹

but kant doesn't leave, because he understands bison and loves him and because he wants him to know the truth. (and, maybe: because he's failed completely at his erstwhile task — even if he hadn't already decided to give up — so he might as well go for broke and be with the man he loves no matter the ending...)

and i don't think it's an accident that one of the first things we see kant do in the episode — after he's had time to process the fact that he's alive, safe, comfortable, that this must be bison's house — is to walk up to a set of bars

gojo knew that he'd make megumi laugh just by writing the truth as it is. i'm sure i'm overthinking it and giving in to overinterpretation, but their relationship has always been somewhat straightforward with megumi's tendency to say things matter-of-factly but keeping a lot of feelings to himself, and gojo's ability to be arrogant, cheeky and caring at the same time. with all the things left unsaid between so many characters, it would be hilarious, right after the "apocalypse", to reveal something personal and quite important... if it wasn't absolutely bleak in comparison to everything that's happened. and gojo just went with the most simple wording, probably knowing that he was going to die and that that fact would only add to the bitter humour of it all. with so many things unsaid between a parental figure that had to take on (not only) that role too early and a young sorcerer, struggling with coming to terms with his abilities (and with gaining self-confidence on a much deeper level than just being aware of his own capabilities), to say something personal and through time and in such a brief way - it is a way of showing that they're just that, two equal people. something is still unsaid, it will always be, but they both knew exactly what they didn't even have to say to know what the other one thinks. gojo knew megumi would still have time to learn how to be more open with those important to him.
