ppl are too quick to point to laios' disability as the reason his friends think he's a freak sometimes. so many instances of laios getting yelled at are, in my eyes, a case of "this guy had to emotionally mature very early in order to be there for his little sister" combined with "much older friends who never had to learn to manage their own emotions to the same degree"
a lot of the time he's right about needing to be more direct/deal with things in a way that may seem scary/needing to put your gut reaction aside. he tries not to make his friends uncomfortable and he puts up with a lot because he's trying to keep the peace, but he also pushes the others out of their comfort zones purposefully to try to get them to think more constructively. everyone else in the party is prone to acting on their gut instincts and avoiding uncomfortable situations even when facing them head-on is very much necessary. part of what makes laios such a great leader is the fact that he knows from experience how to put his own feelings aside to help someone else grow.
yes, he does make a lot of social blunders by accident and he does struggle to connect with others, but not all of his positive influence on others is accidental or "despite" making people uncomfortable. a lot of the time, I think it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and he's trying to help the people around him process emotions in a healthy way as they all go through some truly harrowing shit. all the main characters support each other as well as they can with their unique emotional skillsets. laios' skillset just happens to be "gently talk child into eating her vegetables"

That Sounds Scary. lol#so many of the story's themes revolve around overcoming your own impulses and biases#and laios is uniquely suited to leading that change.#r.i.p. laios/toshiro friendship you guys have so much more in common than you realize

#dragon age the veilguard#dragon age fanart#lucanis dellamorte#andarateia cantori#viago de riva#illario dellamorte#rook de riva#rook datv#Marisol de Riva#i saw a post once upon a time that mentioned Viago was probably appalled by the mercenary rags Rook was wearing lol and kept that head cano#another scene from the fanfic i have in my head lmao#in my HC story for Marisol the recruitment missions go a little different to kind of take away the game-ified aspect#once in the lighthouse Marisol reaches out to Viago (though lol she does wait for a bit because she got kicked out so she's still upset)#Caterina has been keeping her people watching the Ossuary for any changes because she's been slowly connecting the pieces over the past yea#solas's ritual and other stuff happens and the location gets revealed and weakened etc#rook gets in contact with a letter and a candelhop for viago to use to contact her#bc that's how i'm hc'ing that they get messages in the fade lolol#Caterina approaches Viago with a coded contract packet to send to Rook and the contract is basically to breach the Ossuary#and rescue an imprisoned Crow (Rook is unaware Lucanis is “dead” since she was gone and the contract keeps it vague)#but there's the implication it's someone important since Caterina wants to stage a rescue#the packet with info on the Ossuary also ties the operations happening there with the red lyrium artifacts they've been hunting in Minratho#and the appearance of abominations that aren't like any they've encountered before#so going to the Ossuary ALSO is important to the 'stop the Old Gods' plot#BUT ANYWAY that's why this comic reads like she's just seen Viago again despite having Lucanis with her#and also Lucanis was dirty and naked etc in the Ossuary got temp armor and clothes from an inn keep once they escaped#Illario ALSO moved his plan to attack the Diamond after Zara accidentally let it slip that Lucanis was still alive#he'd been fully operating under the assumption that Lucanis was dead for the past year and was plotting to like...#try to stage things to gain favor with Caterina because she still wasn't budging#but then he overhears Zara yelling at Calivan in a magic mirror or some shit that the Ossuary is being breached and Lucanis has escaped#so Illario panicks and directs the venatori attack on the Diamond and kidnaps Caterina so he can have JSUT A LITTLE LONGER to figure it out

Will never get over how Starscream and Skyfire's relationship is always doomed. There's never an iteration of them where they both stay on the same side at the end. They always end up being against each other, tearing each other apart (whether intentionally or not). They always end up losing each other, be it by a snowstorm, by the war, or by death itself. They never receive a happy ending together, one if not both of them is doomed to suffer.
Skyfire is doomed to be an Autobot, by forces out of his control. Starscream is doomed to be an Decepticon, by his own self destructive tendencies. They are both doomed, because of who they are. They always try to save the other, in their own way. But it never works. They are doomed to fail, whether they stay together or not.

me: to really understand the tragedy Maximus bears throughout Gladiator, we have to take into account the fact that his entire worldview is based on the idea that Marcus Aurelius was a good man and that everything Maximus had done up until that point was in the service of an empire whose values he could trust and support. I would even argue that, excluding the loss of his wife and son, the greatest loss Maximus has to grapple with is the loss of his unswerving belief in the goodness of Rome. once he sees its corruption and becomes its victim, he has to reevaluate everything he's ever done and believed in, which affects not only his desire to free Rome from tyranny but also—

#i just kinda think that maximus is tragic in even more ways than we give him credit for#like obviously the loss of his wife and son is the primary tragedy and the main grief of his heart through the movie#but even more than the death of marcus aurelius is the fact that maximus has to reconcile the marcus he knew and loved and trusted#with the marcus who (1) allowed rome to focus on conquest rather than progress#(2) neglected his own son and indirectly caused rome to fall under the tyranny of a dictator#and (3) is both the opponent and perpetrator of many of the evils maximus has to bear#maximus has always imagined rome as a golden place filled with light#and he has to go through quite a painful enlightening#to see that rome is corrupt and brutal and dark much like he considered the barbarians#and what an incredible thing that maximus begins fighting alongside and allying with the very barbarians he used to conquer!#juba and haken would have been his enemies if they were not his fellow gladiators#and he becomes their brother in defiance of the roman emperor (an office he has always served)#the battle of carthage is INCREDIBLE because maximus is not only winning the victory humiliating commodus introducing himself as a champion#but ALSO showing that he has ZERO love for rome by becoming the leader of the “barbarian horde” and defeating the roman competitors#it's a statement just as his removal of his tattoo is a statement#i just. think this movie is amazing and i love it so much#and i love maximus so much more knowing he has to overcome so much more tragedy than is immediately apparent#he has to overcome his own devastation and disillusionment to find himself again#and it's in finding his quest for revenge and redemption that he accepts the past and creates a new future#literally MARRY ME SIR#gladiator#maximus#maixmus decimus meridius#gladiator 2000#russell crowe#text posts

UNTITLED (PORTRAIT OF ROSS IN L.A.): It fucks me up SO MUCH. The artist's partner was named Ross, and died of AIDS in the same year this was created. The ideal weight is roughly the average of an adult man. The allegory there... people taking the candy, decreasing the weight, the same way people took away from Ross and every other victim of the AIDS crisis by refusing to help, to do anything at all. Except this has an "endless supply" of candy. People can take and take and it keeps coming back. They can't get rid of us forever. genuinely, it's so funny to me when jon.elias shippers hate j.mart for the specifically stated reason that "martin isnt good for jon". Yes, the guy with realistic flaws and traits that occasionally create conflicts with Jons own flaws and traits is bad for him, so jmart is toxic. Jon deserves someone who treats him right.
In fact, you know who's good for Jon? The person who effectively used him as a puppet, made a plan centered on scarring him for life 13 times and executed it without remorse, then used his body to end the world, an experience so horrifying that Jon would rather literally kill everyone on earth than risk someone else feeling it too. Now that's a guy Jon deserves!

What’s so interesting to me about Odysseus’s transition in Monster is that he hasn’t changed all that much. He was always capable of violence and we know that because of everything he’s done in the war and in his journey. The only change that occurs is he’s chosen to no longer feel guilty, and to stop hesitating when it comes to violence.
#look my outlook is everyone always is capable of horrible things. under the right circumstances we will do violent atrocious things#that capability is in all of us. Odysseus shows that he was always capable of killing (and killing an infant!)#the fact that he feels guilty doesn’t change his actions#sure he tries to be better and be kinder but at the end of the day his efforts matter less than his actions and outcomes#right?#yes he streamlines his violence but he’s committed violence before!#when one intends to kill the speed at which they draw their sword doesn’t change the outcome#feeling conflicted about the thing doesn’t matter if you still do the thing#so in monster what he decides is to stop trying to preserve his ideals of morality#but from that his actions won’t exactly change. he’s going to kill people in the future and really that’s no different from his past#in letting go of his moral preservation isn’t he returning to be just a man? a man with no illusions of himself?#my post#epic the musical#epic the underworld saga
