People calling Hobie×Miles (punkflower) shippers proshippers as if we didn't ship them for longer than the movie even came out will always be crazy to me.

I've seen lots of people sending threats, or reporting people because they made punkflower, goldenflower (pavxhobie), ghostbyte (gwenxmargo), flowerbyte (margoxmiles), etc, arts or videos. Going to assume that it isn't because most of these ships are POCs ships, there's just literally no point to do that.

First of all, there's no confirmation of hobie's age. If ur basing urself of that one interview, then it was of the CONCEPT of hobie, and even so remember it was only one person who said it. Its heavily implied thats he's a teenager throughout the movie. (Also in the art book, its said that he's slightly older than Miles).

For the thing about him going to the pub and all, minors can and will go in pubs, (not saying that its always legal) are yall living under a rock or just dense on purpose? Teenagers do wtv the fuck they want, even when theyre not allowed to. Youre all going to tell me teenagers respect the rules of not drinking and go to clubs becuz theyre underage? Come off it. Also hobie literally merked his president and u think he'd draw the line at drinking alcohol as a minor? HA.

Aside from that, to be fair to everyone, the directors keeps on changing what they're saying about hobies age, one day they'll say and imply he's a minor and the next second say he's an adult. It's like they all have different idea of this character's age. So, nothing is really comfimed, and his age is really up to interpretation.

Now that we're past THAT point, the other kind of people talking about his age are people saying "oh but he looks old" "that man is most definitely 30yo" "there's no way he's underage" things of the sort, u get it. And I'm just over here like??? Why is it impossible for you to think that this guy could be a teen? Is it the air? The wrinkles? What makes it seem like for you that there's no way he could be around the other teens' age? And 30??? Cmon. People often assume black people are older than they look, which is a universal experience for all of us. Did none of u ever see a blk teen who doesnt have a baby face? Because thats literally what hobie looks like to me. To others we can seem too "mature" for our age, or just look too "old" to be the age we say we are, so is it really impossible for him to be a teenager? Think about it.

The movies might be inspired from the comics, but not everything is going to be 100% the same. For exemple: gwen is 2 yrs older than Miles in the comics, but in movies she's only 15 months older, Jess Drew is white in the comics and black in the movie, Miguel O'hara is white passing in the comics, compared to his version in atsv where he has brown skin, lyla's disign is also different.

You get it? Things are going to differ as much as things are going to be the same, because (get ready!!) this is the multiverse! Just as earth-616 is just one universe in all the marvel comics, atsv is another universe.

Okay because generally I’ve been seeing a lot of fighting a weirdness I wanted to talk about this for a second

Hobie Brown is not an adult

Please stop being weird about him!!

I’ve been complaining about this a lot and for people that don’t understand this situation essentially in an interview one of the directors said that an early concept of Hobie design was that he was supposed to be like the cooler older kid and as the example used for this he stated the ages 19/20

Because of this many people took it as still being canon which has led to a large bit of debate in the community between people about his age

The people who have taken this reference to the early concept as canon have started bashing people who ship Hobie with others in the group (mainly Miles and Pav which is important and which I will come back to later) as well as used this as an excuse to sexualize Hobie because hes an adult

A barely legal one which even if this was true is its own separate issue

However the issue with this specific take is that its wrong

For a variety of reasons

1) For starters people say that since the director said he was 19/20 it must be true however another director/creator of the film has stated that Hobies age is up for interpretation meaning he doesn’t have a specific set age

However, it is very clear based off of everything else that Hobie was still meant to be in the teenager range in terms of age 

For starters the actual movie

Throughout the first half of the movie Hobie is referred to a couple times by both Gwen and Pav and later Miles

Every time he is talked about in this context it is always with the undertoned implication of him and Gwen supposedly having a romantic relationship with both Pav and Gwen treating it as a sort of thing that could potentially cause friction or other issues in regards to Miles and Gwens relationship

If Hobie really were 19/20 this would be, cannot stress this enough, incredibly weird and creepy on the writers part

Unlike Hobie Gwen does have a confirmed age and she IS a minor and the movie imply that she had a relationship with Hobie whether she actual did or not and treating it as a joke would be weird and out of place if he was an adult

Not to mention that a lot of people referred to Gwen, Hobie and Miles dynamic as a love triangle which again weird and gross and uncalled for if Hobie was an adult

2) The art books both in the english and Japanese translation refer to Hobie in a way that either implies hes a kid or outright uses terms that mean hes a child

In the English translation of the book Hobie is referred to as the cool slightly older boy the girls want to date

Meanwhile the Japanese translation literally spells it out

3) I’ve heard a variety of different deflect in regards to all the above mentioned stuff

“Hobie doesn’t look like a kid” people age differently. I’ve met kids in high school who were the same age as or younger than me with full ass beards and mustaches as well as people who are well into there 20 who look like they’re still 15 he simply just has a structured face

“He was bit at 16 in the comics and said he was spider-man for 3 years in the movie” We aren’t in the comics universe though and in this iteration Miles was bit at like 13 and Gwen at like 14 meaning that in actuality the kids are usually bitten really damn early and the actual facts are that we don’t know how old he was when he was bitten and since we very clearly aren’t in the comic universe as these movies are significantly different from the comics you can’t just go off of that

“Just because it was a concept doesn’t mean it was changed it could still have been kept” While it is true that yes sometimes things from first draft concepts are kept a lot of times they aren’t such as Hobies best friend Pavitr who was supposed to be 13 in his concept but very clearly isn’t in the movie (I don’t actually have solid evidence for that claim I just think it would be weird that they make comments about Pavs body and show him shirtless if he was still 13 in the final-) both Pav and Hobie had a shit ton of changes done to them  alongside basically all of the main 4 (Hobie, Pavitr, Gwen and Miles), except for maybe Miles but he was already an established character, so using his concept as hard and fast evidence when he very clearly was changed a lot and everything else points toward him being a kid just doesn’t work

“He mentions going to a pub so he has to be at least 21” first Hobie is British and the legal age in Britain is 18 also you don’t have to be of legal drinking age to go into a pub you just have to be old enough to actual order drinks which doesn’t even account for the fact that this is also Hobie we’re talking about who would not give the slightest fucks about the legal drinking age “But they show him with a beer in his montage and they wouldn’t encourage that in an underage character” Hobies montage is so fast paced and colorful that I genuinely don’t even know if thats true because you can barely comprehend the stuff that happens in that scene the first time you see it and not to mention that he also flips off the cops in that montage so I don’t really think they were too concerned about encouraging certain behaviors or not since half of Hobies speech in that scene was about overthrowing governments saying ACAB

So in conclusion

Hobie doesn’t have a confirmed age but based off off all the information we are given he is probably actually closer to 16/17 as his age

Now as a side tangent something else I want to address is the inherent homophobia and racism undertones that came with the initial spreading of his false age

Because when people initially heard that age they’re first instinct wasn’t to jump at the actual movie for imply a ship with Hobie and Gwen or even on the people make jokes about but was instead to jump on the people shipping Hobie with Pav and Miles

Both other male characters who are also characters of color

Odd that the first though was the (honestly at that time) relatively new and unpopular gay poc ships (Yes I know the ships are more popular now they had BARELY any content at the time of the interview)

Like genuinely the absolute giddy JOY I saw some people have at the idea that people who were minding their own business would have had a ship they liked ruined for them was insane and still is to me

Miles 42 has lost his father, trying to assist his mother during those hard times while being a vigilante stealing medical supplies from the sinister six cartel just to help his mother at the hospital. Just by that, it’s clear some of you don’t care about how certain characters are portrayed, AND ITS WHEN PEOPLE POINT IT OUT, THE WRITER GETS UPSET AND SAYS THEIR WRONG?

Y/N is supposed to be the reader but honestly it feels like Y/N is their own person because I don’t relate to this y/n person at all 🧍🏾‍♀️I am not twirling my hair Nor am I gonna cry when some random person in the story is about to fight me 😐 Theirs so many things to use to refer to the reader, for example hobie! Stop making him say “luv” or “love” every five seconds!! For example “Dove” or anything that seems like hobie would say idk

Across the Spiderverse Agere Beach HCs

I'm so insane about them /pos (I plan/planned on writing a fic, but I've lost motivation so have the ideas instead)

Miles, Pav, Gwen, and Hobie decide to have a fun little beach day, but when Pav gets a bit too excited and Gwen starts to get a bit too motherly... Hobie and Gwen find their hands full with two Spider-kids who can't sit still. While I love Miles and Pavitr being an iconic toddler duo, in reality i think Miles is a toddler and Pav has to be watched 24/7 or you'll turn around to him with a mouthful of sand. Gwen is built like those middle aged white-moms, when it comes to going to the beach She packs a HUGE sun-hat, an entire cooler she makes Hobie carry for her, 2 stuffed tote bags. Literally EVERYTHING. Like, they had to go with a car (Gwen or Hobie drove) bc miss gurl brought like half a house

The children (Miles and Pavitr) are so hyped but when they get there, Gwen makes them each stand in the parking lot and she COATS them in sunscreen. Pav literally looks like he's about to implode from the stickiness, Miles is just mildly inconvenienced by it.

When they acutally find a spot in the sand Pav and Miles ran straight for the water but before they could move 3 feet Gwen was like "ah ah ah. Get back here rn" and made them help her set up a whole ass tent and a set of beach chairs for her and Hobie and stuff

Also, Hobie overpacks/is a mom just as much as Gwen, he's just sutble/silent about it So his tote bag, has like, floaties for pav, a paci/teether, snacks, sippys, bottles he has AN ENTIRE BABYGATE in the car, in case they need to section off a place for pav so he doesn't wander off (Pav can very much swim btw, he can swim possibly the best out of all of them, Hobie's just super overprotective of his baby) [The gate is less for contatining him when he's a Spider on a mission and more when he's reeeeeally little and they don't want him wandering off into the water without supervision

It's also ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY Hobie is just, a first time mom and would rather overprepare than risk being unprepared] Speaking of Pavitr… He's so accidentally mischievous. Like, obviously he's cheeky sometimes, but most times he gets himself into trouble and he has no idea that he's done it

Gwen and Hobie: "Pav, don't go in the water without supervision" nods (10 seconds later, them finding Pav sitting in the shallows) "What did we tell you about going in the water?"

Pav, who doesn't know what 'water' is but wanted to go splashy splashy: O_O

By the time Hobie and Gwen have found pav and brought him back to the their spot in the sand, Miles is running around with a crab in his hands screaming for help and saying he picked it up bc he was curious but is scared it'll "Bite" him if he puts it down

NOW MILES Is the most chaotic toddler ever Gwen was so relieved when she found out Pav was a regressor bc she was like "Thank goodness I have a second caregiver to help me watch Miles at the beach or I think I'd lose him" She turns around for like two seconds and Miles is like half a mile away from her looking for an ice cream truck.

Fandoms have really worped peoples idea of what punk is.Obviously the misconceptions and straight up lies about us didn't start with them but they were definitely a huge help in spreading them due to media and the lack of comprehension of it therefore.Like i said in the caption of my recent meme that blew up,being punk is not an aesthetic but a subculture and a policitical movement with the requirements to be one of us being fighting against corruption and helping and generally being kind to minorities and if a character is just edgy without doing that,then they don't deserve to be grouped in with us when they haven't earned it

In real life,when someone goes punk,it's almost always because they're a minority and faced so much discrimation and abuse because of it that they decided to do something about it and that's how they made their decision.I'm not gonna give out details because that would be traumadumping but the reason i went from regular pastel to pastel punk is that i'm a biracial afrolatina who was raised by the white side of their family,mentally disabled because of having a bunch of disorders including autism,mspec and aspec and a former tomboy kid turned femme genderfluid and bigender transmasc.That probably gives you an idea of all i've experienced and those experiences are the reason i decided to start going punk,not because i wanted to be 'cool'.Not that that's inherently a bad reason to but it is a rather ignorant one

They're all punks,some intentionally,some not,but the REASON they are is that they have the punk mentality and show it in their actions,not because some of them are edgy and some of them not being edgy dosen't mean they 'don't count as/can't be' punk and that was caused by their experiences as minorities,not anything else and that's not subtext,it's just text.You don't HAVE to be a minority to be punk but the characters i've seen labeled as part of us more often than not are the ones actively hurting the ones who are and that inherently means they can't be because the whole reason punk was created was to be anti-bigotry and protecting and loving opressed people

Gwen and why she lies

This one is going to be a bit messy because I'm very tired after work, but I can't not talk about this anymore.

It's easy to criticize Gwen for lying to Miles. She was obviously in the wrong, right? The narrative calls her out, the characters call her out, and, oh boy, does the fandom call her out.

But dismissing her lying as "manipulative" or just "being a bad person" is doing a disservice to yourself. Because if I see you say that I will literally murder you assume you have no media literacy or desire to comprehend what you are shown beyond the surface level.

In ITSV Gwen claims she’s been Spider-Woman for two years. Her being fifteen years old, that makes her having taken that responsibility when she was thirteen, which is an incredibly formative age.

Moreover, she clearly has a strained relationship with her father, and her other parent, if she ever had one, is not in the picture entirely. Even in the flashback of a supposed happy memory of sharing a meal with her father and Peter, Gwen and her dad don’t seem to be on the same page at all.

Miles, on the other hand, has two incredibly present parents (and a really cool uncle). Do they also not always see eye to eye? Surely, but it’s obvious that love and support to each other is central to their household no matter what.

I believe that Gwen very early on understood and learned the old and true “lie to protect” way of thinking, and by the time she just met Miles, she already had it ingrained in her. Look no further than their second interaction - where she purposely bumps into him (no, really, find that scene, she literally leans back so he can bump into her), and then lies, cringes at herself, lies again, cringes more, and so on and so forth.

Gwen saying weird stuff and then cringing at herself around Miles is, like, a repeated thing, but that’s not the point here.

The point is, by the time ATSV arrives, the stakes for Gwen are really high. If she disappoints or angers Miguel, she might be sent back ‘home’, which would be akin to a death sentence (and which ends up happening anyway). If she tells Miles the whole truth she risks losing him, and from the context clues of her just having his pictures scattered around her bedroom we could tell he’s pretty important to her.

Thing is, she wanted everything to work out. There’s a reason Hobie and Pavitr seem to almost instantly recognize Miles, despite meeting him for the first time ever. And there’s a reason Gwen chooses him after all, despite all of her fears.

So, to get this train back on track, Gwen didn’t just lie simply because she didn’t trust Miles, and definitely not because she wanted to hurt him. She lied because in the turmoil she was feeling that was the only thing she knew to do.

For years, between her responsibilities, her father’s neglect, and her tragic loss of Peter, Gwen learned, even if wrongfully, that lying and keeping secrets is the only way to keep things in any sort of peace and balance.

But will she have enough time to unlearn that?

I think that one of the elements of Spiderverse's story thst interests me the most is that the antagonists of Miles' story for the majority of the time that we spend with him are not the supervillains, but the people closest to him. (Antagonists in the sense that they stand in the way of the protagonists goals or character development, not in the sense that they're bad people).

Long post ahead:

I cannot emphasize enough that this kid has been CONSISTENTLY undermined, had his autonomy denied, and been underestimated by people that were closest to him. People that he should otherwise trust! His dad doesn't consider whether Miles actually *wants* to go to the prestigious, "respectable" school where he has no friends as opposed to the one where his community surrounds him. Even in the first half of the second movie, Rio tells Miles explicitly that his life is not his own, but that of the people that came before him that gave him opportunities that she would kill for (but that Miles didn't ask for...). It's understandable and a very common thing to hear if you're the child of immigrant or otherwise non-white parents, but it's heartbreaking to hear nonetheless.

For a similar reason, the scene from ITSV where Gwen and Peter B stage an intervention in which they literally tie him up in his room because he's "not ready" instead of communicating this outright has always bothered me. Gwen and Miles are literally the same age! Yet they talk to him as if he wouldn't be able to understand!

The second film acknowledges this, and names that it is something Miles remembers and has a right to be angry about:

"It worked last time, why not run it back?"

There are so few moments in this story where Miles is treated like an intelligent person with agency. He doesn't get to make informed choices for himself, he doesn't get clear communication about what's actually going on until everyone is ready to gang up on him.

I think that this lack of agency COULD BE a very interesting potential contrast to someone like Miles G, who I theorize has had to be much more self-reliant as a vigilante whose father is deceased. What things could our Miles learn from him?

(Side note: Hobie also emphasizes to Miles the importance of Spider-Man's independence, and represents unbridled self-expression without asking for approval. He has something to teach Miles about identity as well!)

Anyways, I'm just thinking out loud lol. I have a very strong feeling that BTSV - whenever it comes out - will see a Miles that is taking back that autonomy and carving out his own identity by force 🫶🏾 lord knows he deserves it

I was the latter at that age, and in fact being extremely underweight like Hobie directly contributed to me looking much older than I was. Second of all, there is proof Hobie is over 18

In his introduction he states that he has been Spiderman for 3 years. Most Spider people get bit around age 16 (Hobie was bit at 16 in the comics). If he was 16 when bit that would make him 19 now (16+3=19). He also refers to Miles as a "young'un" which is slang for a young child. Tf would he refer to a 15 year old as a young child if he was 16? He also canonically goes to the pub with his friends. You have to be 18 in the UK to purchase alcohol and even enter a pub. The only way you could enter a pub as a minor is to go with a parent. Don't use the "oh well he's a punk so he wouldn't listen to those rules" because I highly doubt they would promote underage drinking in a kids movie. Atsv director Kemp Powers also stated that Hobie was "19/20" in an interview. In the atsv art book it states "Miles is quite jealous of this guy, but he also wants to be more like him because he's much older and more uninhibited in ways that Miles can only be in his imagination!". This quote about Hobie states that he is "much older" than Miles (a 15 year old). Why would they say that Hobie was much older than Miles if he was only 16? (Which would only separate them by a year).

In conclusion, Hobie is over 18.

The more I think about it, the more I come to this conclusion:

Mayday is NOT Peter's child. Let me explain.

1. The timeline

A pregnancy lasts 9 months. Across the spiderverse takes place a year and 4 months after Into the spiderverese. That means that the MAXIMUIM age that Mayday could be is 7 months old. This straight up just doesn't track. Mayday is far too advanced mentally and physically. Her hair is too long, she has too many teeth, and she's incredibly mobile. She looks and acts more like a child that's a year and a half.

This isn't the only flaw in the timeline, the relationship between Peter and MJ also doesn't fit the timeline. They have been divorced for years and haven't seen each other since the divorce. To tell me that the SECOND they see each other, they fuck? That's not only bullshit, but if it is true, then that is hella concerning imo!

Also, I don't really understand why MJ, as a mother, would let Peter take her 7 month year old to another universe, where MJ would have no idea what's going on. Mayday has clearly been to spider society several times, the daypass was seemingly made for her and hobie and Miguel are comfortable around her.

2. Genetics

Mayday is a white little girl with long red hair, blue eyes, freckles, and a button nose. She looks exactly like MJ, and nothing like Peter. Literally, she shares no physical features with Peter. Is that impossible? No, it's just incredibly odd, not to mention a literal statistical wonder. (Brown hair and brown eyes are dominant genes, and only 0.17% of the world's population has BOTH blue eyes and red hair.

Counterpoints:

1. Her name

Her name being Mayday suggests that she is named after Peter's aunt May. However, May was there for MJ and treated her like her own, so who's to say that MJ wouldn't name her child after here? It also could be possible that she isn't named after May anyway. Her last name could be Parker because it is still MJ's last name even after the divorce, or it could be Parker because Peter is her adoptive father.

2. Her powers

Mayday has a webshooter that Peter made and can crawl on walls. We don't know if Spider powers are genetic, or if they would present themselves at such a young age. It also could be that her crawling on the wall is a biproduct of being in a different universe or being near all the other spiderpeople. Also, we know that there are multiple Spidermen, so even if she does have powers, that doesn't necessarily mean Peter is the father.

Conclusion:

For me personally, what makes the most sense is that MJ had a child while she was divorced from Peter. Peter and MJ rekindled there love, and Peter became the adoptive father of her child. It doesn't matter that it's not biologically his child, he's still raising her. But this is just a theory/hc, I just wanted to post this to open a discussion <3

I spoke to a good friend today and tried to describe to him how it feels to miss BTS the way I do. How do I make someone who is not a fan understand the actual ache I feel when I hear Jin sing The Astronaut? How do I make them understand that I miss the chaos and camaraderie of BANGTAN?

These seven men LITERALLY saved my life with Magic Shop. They brought a faceless, drowning woman back from the brink without ever having met me, without even knowing I exist. He is a total vibe and a true vitamin for everyone. I miss the way he shows true courage in the face of all the things he fears. I miss Suga's special way of showing his love to the members. The way he is a steadfast pillar for everyone and his gummy smile and his poetic lyrics that make me cry because I see him in them.

I miss Tae's ability to stare into my soul with his direct gaze, the way he does the most random things that are so Tae. I miss his relaxed vibe and the way he cares for the other members. I miss Jikook and the silly antics they get up to. The empathy that Jimin has for the other members and the way he shows his affection and his endless Cutie Sexy Lovely - ness. Let's not forget the Sweet guy that was added on or Lachimolala. I miss the way Jungkook goes into another dimension for a few seconds and then comes back with a bewildered look. I miss the way he is so endearing even when he is being full of crap or being so damn cute at his age.

I just miss the chaos and love that these men share - I miss being part of their daily lives, their vacations and episodes of RUN BTS. I don't care about the negative things being said about the members. I love them all equally and thirst over them equally. I feel that the enlistment process has become more and more real for me with each member leaving and I go through the five stages of grief each time. I

So, I made a real introduction to Hobie's sibilings here.

For the ones that doesn't know what I am talking, Is canon in the 'main' earth that Hobie Brown is the youngest of nine kids, so I decided to make his sibilings in his earth(Spider Punk earth).

- Frederick "Fritz" Brown

Age: 35 years old

Former teacher, got arrested for the second time for "indoctrination" and being against the government. Responsible brother, helped raise his sibilings when his father left. He is wise but not boring, he will speak his mind with no fear.

Most of the times feels responsible for his younger sibilings since he had to be almost a father to them.

-Agnes "Nessie" Brown

Age: 32 years old.

Vintage queen, like 99% of her wardrobe are his mom's former clothes. She is literally the favorite sibiling of all of them. Social activist, she is currently working to get in the politics to try change the fascist state.

Traveled the whole world, got a shot once(Her siblings has no idea) and has a adopted son that is a refugee from a communist country.

Age:30 years old.

70% style, 30% chaos and 100% whore. Bert was the one that introduced Hobie to punk culture, he owns a pup where Hobie usually play.

Has twins daughters but rarely see them because their mother hates him. Made a tattoo at 14. He supports his sibiling on anything they do and is always ready to help. Gave an flat in the same building as his to Hobie so they could have drinking nights(and he could keep an eye in his brother)

Age: 24 years old

He is a vigilant named Black Tiger, he had worked at the side of Spider-man more than once(the two not knowing their identities). Martial arts master, he was a Prodigy since childhood and had teached the move that made Hobie broke Tod's arm.

Had left the group chat like 3 times now but is always put back. Lives with his mom to protect her.

Leopold "Leo" Brown

Age:22 years old.

Artist boy, sells his art at the street and was arrested 5 times because it. Has a scar for being beaten by the police. He is positive all the time. He still lives with his mom and knows Hobie is spider man since he was biten.

He is tall just like Hobie, and loves hearing his brother play his guitar, he loves movies and collect and restore rare and old dolls like Barbies.

Age:21.

Fun fact, she was born on the same day as Leo being conceived 3 months after Leo was born. She is the fun sister and the reason why they had to move two times(she isn't allowed to the kitchen). When she was 14 and Hobie 12, she piercied his ears. She and Hobie are the closest of the siblings and she was the one that came up with the nickname 'Baby Punk'

She is a cop not by choice, since she was infected by Venom becoming Captain Venom working alongside Officer Venom and the Venom Army.
