Hi I seem to be accumulating recurring characters and I love organising things so these guys are getting their own oc tags now, I'll be slowly going back through this blog to tag them all!

Nothing fancy it's literally just SMG4oc: plus their name, this is maninly for myself to make things more organised on my blog, but I'm not fussed if anyone else tags them the same as well. Werewolf smg4 isn't here because he has his own tag already but if I somehow create any more characters, they'll get the same OC tag. So yeah if I kindly recieve any gift art, i'll be tagging them with my OC tag as well!

iNaturalist is a great hobby for people who like to sort things into categories. Mammal! Frog or toad! Flowering plant! Conifer!

ADHD really does put everything at equal levels of importance, huh? Like I'll have an email I need to write that'll take maybe 10 minutes, and getting that done will alleviate 6 months of stress. Then I'll notice a sock on the floor I need to put away. Then I'll get the strong conviction that it's up to me to cure cancer. And my brain will tell me that I need to do all of them at once, start and finish them all in the time span of 0 seconds, and my executive dysfunction will throw up its hands and do none of the above.

Do you think Kotoko has a “perfect victim” concept like how society does? Like people often have a concept of what a idealized victim is supposed to be like scared, weak, helpless, depressed, and immediately be grateful for the people who got them out of their situation and so on?

Ooohh, yes I do! I actually have some particular thoughts on her mindset, involving an idealized victim and perpetrator --

I believe that Kotoko views the world through strength, in three truths: If you have strength and you're helping, you're a hero. If you have strength and you're hurting, you're a villain. If you don't have strength, you automatically can't be in those categories, making you a victim. To her, the flipside is also true: If you've helped someone, it's only because you were strong enough to. If you've hurt someone, it's only because you were strong enough to. If you were hurt, you must be weak since you couldn't protect yourself. The three categories are separate, and the lines do not cross.

At first, this served her well, convincing her it was a good mimsdet to have: it's proven that weak talk won't fix corruption. She's in good physical condition and directly uses it to help. She doesn't expect anything from victims who are just trying to survive. However. Like all black-and-white mindsets, this quickly causes issues because of all the ambiguous areas.

Most members of milgram are physically weak, or have a mental weakness to them. Fuuta and Mahiru did not purposfully use strength to hurt someone, like the perfect image of a murderer that Kotoko clings to. Mikoto did purposefully use his strength, but it was intended to help someone weak. But Kotoko cannot, under any circumstance, admit that the lines do cross. She cannot admit that there are weak villains, or that villains can be trying to help, or that victims can be strong. Because the minute she does, she'll have to face that her case involved a man who was strong, a villain, and also a victim -- making her into a villain, which she has dedicated her life to ridding the world of.

So the third season really Killed The Bear’s momentum huh

So on one hand, it does kind of suck that Elita isn’t allowed to have her pre-Elita name anymore with presumably the Disney copyright issues. Like it’s I assume why she can’t have her origin name in TF One and honestly I feel like she sticks out in that regard

But at the same time, I just have to say

Ariel is just a normal person name. Like that does not sound like a Transformer name to me, that could just be a human character’s name

Sure Orion is also a human name, but I feel like the full name being Orion Pax makes it slightly better? Like adding the Pax part as the second part of his name, it makes it not just sound like a human, at least to me. It’s flimsy but it’s something. And also Orion is the name of a constellation, so slightly more space-y

Ariel meanwhile is just a human name, no two ways about it

Hell, in her original design, she just kind of looks like a robot girl to me, rather than someone able to actually transform into a vehicle

And sure, you can change her spelling to Erial or Aerial to make it less human-like or give it a flight pun, but in the former it’s a bit weak, and in the latter case, while it’s nice and I like it, she isn’t known to turn into a flying vehicle other than her Power of the Primes toy, so it’s also a bit flimsy

I like the idea of Elita having a former self, giving her more parallels to Orion/Optimus, and I’d like to see more spins on this Ariel design, since I think Animated was really the only one to do so, but she’s also stuck with a very non-Transformer sounding name to me

It’s like when I hear there’s a bot called Minerva, though I’ve gotten more used to Ariel at this point. But also from what I can gather on the Wiki, the bot Minerva either is or is named after a human character called Minerva, so she’s got more of an explanation to have a human sounding name, even if that explanation doesn’t carry over continuities

Maybe she needs a new backstory-her name. Granted, I talk all this and I’m not sure what this new name should be. But I think she should have a new name, at least so that the character of Ariel can appear in some way again

"It's only [thing] if it has/does [specific trait that subjectively contributes to my specific viewpoint of said thing] otherwise it's [vaguely adjacent, arbitrarily separated thing]" what if the world isn't as black and white as you think and you could get to learn about and experience the breadth of existence with a fresh mind and an open heart.
