That's what makes Rockerduck apart from Glomgold. John's always fair when business is not involved (and even in business there are lines he won't cross). He's always willing to help.

The rivalry he has with Scrooge is just that: a rivalry. There's no hate there. Not even resentment. I think he resents his father much more than Scrooge. He just wants to prove himself, and the only means he has to do it is by beating the only duck who's better than him at business, the duck his father always preferred over him. He sees his father in Scrooge.

But he doesn't hate Scrooge.

John's a shark... but an honorable one ^^. Under the bark of the boastful, arrogant, cold-hearted businessman there really is a good person.

And Scrooge... Scrooge is Scrooge. He respects Rockerduck much more than he lets through. I bet he considers him a little brother (in fact, his relationship with John is very simiIar to the one he has with Gideon). I mean... he would have given John a penny!!! 😲❤️

Most interesting thing of the Disney comics: for all of Disney's reputation, most love interests of the main characters are EXTREMELY dangerous and powerful women:

Donald: his girlfriend is Daisy Duck, who has a temper to match his and is a corporate spy on the side (and Donald KNOWS: he too has a side jig as a corporate spy for Scrooge, and at the end of his first job he found out he was basically providing a distraction for Daisy, who had already infiltrated the enemy organization weeks early). The one who could have stolen Donald, Reginella, is the queen of a planet of pacifists, but when it comes to defend her subjects unleashing a furious Donald means she's HOLDING BACK (she was forced to cut loose ONCE. The scene shows why exactly unleashing Donald is less dangerous). His first love interest, Donna Duck, is Daisy's prototype and equally short tempered but Latina. Then from the subseries we have master thief Lola Duck, Time Police droid Lyla Lay, Xadhoom, the alien president of a destroyed planet who survived because she was away turning into a physical goddess and has since started committing genocide on the ones that wiped out her people, master spy Kay K... Knowing just how his parents got together, plus his grandmother Elvira (whose reaction to people trying an extorsion racket on her was to pull a shotgun on them, and when they tried to ruin her farm she called Donald to tell him to unleash his sadistic vigilante friend on them. She didn't know that Donald WAS the sadistic vigilante YET. Elvira is also the only person in the entire world capable of making Scrooge back down with barely an effort) playing a large role in raising him, must have left an impression...

Scrooge: he and "Glittering" Goldie O' Gilt fell for each other in the month he forced her to work at his mine after she robbed him... And she was packing a derringer until she got scared of the frozen mammoth on the way and pulled the gun. The other one, Brigitta McBridge (with whom Goldie is a close friend), was a shopkeeper in Dawson during the Gold Race, and Scrooge is low key scared of angering her because he knows from experience that once she's angry enough at him she's a far more dangerous rival than Glomgold and Rockerduck COMBINED, and her only scruples are that she won't do anything ILLEGAL (as in, the first time Scrooge found out there was no law preventing her from causing the extinction of an entire species of submarine-growing strawberries just to spite Scrooge and keep him from taking advantage of the ingredient she had used to force him out of the strawberry pie market after HE had cornered it).

Fethry: his girlfriend Gloria (from Brazilian comics) not only can keep him out of trouble, she has a superhero alter ego.

Abner: Fethry's brother... Who's currently dating Donna Duck.

Ludwig Von Drake: it's not clear exactly how he's related to the Ducks... But according to Don Rosa, he married Matilda McDuck, Scrooge's other sister. For the record, Donald is SCARED of angering his aunt Matilda, while he's not scared at all of pissing off Scrooge until he threatens to call in Donald's debts to him (in fact at one point Donald pissed both of them at the same time, and Donald MOCKED Scrooge's threats of violence comparing them to what Matilda had just done to him).

Humperdink: Donald's grandfather, he married Elvira Duck, nee Coot.

Quackmore Duck: Donald's father, he married Hortense McDuck. They fell in love after he had to save US cavalry from her, and they shouted at each other over who made the worst mess there.

Donald "Hero of Duckburg" Duck: Donald's namesake great grandfather, the woman believed to have married him was a farmer in Calisota during the Civil War that held him and his Confederate prisoner at gunpoint.

Mickey: Minnie Mouse is just as much of an adrenaline junkie as him, it's just that she has a life besides adventuring so we only find out when she has time and Mickey has to try and keep her at home (because, after all, she's less experienced, and he's scared she'll end up in some of the messes he barely go out alive from).

Goofy: his most famous girlfriend, Queen Zenobia III, debuted in a story in which she tried to take over the entire African continent in the middle of the Cold War - and she was about to succeed before Goofy made her change his mind. Another famous love interest literally led a vast fleet of space warships against hordes of robots.

Pete: his common law wife, Trudy, debuted running ALL OF MOUSETON'S CRIME. She was doing it for Pete, who at the time was in jail, but she could pull it off.

Well, I've been a hardcore Bellamort fan since I read book 5 back in 2000-whatever-it-was, so there's that.

But what's a problem is how much I ship Delphi/Harry. It's a real struggle, because it's so problematic, so wrong, and yet I love them together SO MUCH. I need to write about like, right now. Goodbye sleep, you shall be missed.

U: Three favourite characters from three different fandoms, and why they're your favourites.

Harry Potter fandom: Tom Riddle/Voldemort, Bellatrix and Harry. Cause the first two are supercool villains with deep feelings, and because Harry is an amazing kid with commendable moral fibre. Could go on, but I don't exactly think that our likes and dislikes are rational choices, so there's not much point in thinking about it.

Peaky Blinders fandom: Tommy Shelby, Alfie Solomons and Polly Grey. Tommy Shelby is the same as Tom Riddle, right? Incredibly smart, they have no limitations (heh, see what I did there?) either realistically or morally. Alfie has great chemistry with Tommy because Cillian and Tom (is tom the name of the game today?!) have great chemistry, but he's also a reflection of the same characteristics on a different coin. Polly in the first seasons is the backbone of the family, ran the business while the boys were at war and has hilarious lines that I wish I could tell my male friends. Also Helen McRory was an awesome actress.

The Life and Times of $crooge McDuck fandom: Scrooge McDuck, "Glittering" Goldie O'Gilt and Howard Rockerduck (John Rockerduck's father) If you're unfamiliar with the monumental work of Don Rosa, do yourself a favour and check it out, it's not just a comic book, it's... something beyond words. I love Scrooge for his work ethic, love of his family and strongheadedness. And who doesn't love the only duck that melted his heart, Glittering Goldie? I have a budgie named Scrooge, and he had the largest sideburns you could imagine! And I respect Howard Rockerduck, because despite making poor choices, being a rich dick on the surface and the likes, he still has a warm heart. His double cameo apperaaance were a very welcome surprise in the saga.

V: Which character do you relate to the most?

I've already replied I relate to Hermione on the surface, but disgraced Bellatrix speaks more to my soul. Perhaps I should talk a bit about the character whose pseudonym I use online, meaning Jack Dawkins, aka The Artful Dodger. I'm not a pickpocketing orphan, but I strongly relate to a child that grew up too fast, tried to play the adult and things didn't go exactly as planned.

3.) Aunt Eider - the aunt of Scrooge McDuck and John D. Rockerduck, described as a weird character in INDUCKS. First appeared in "Most Helpful Aunt Eider" by Dick Kinney and Al Hubbard.

4.) Dimwitty - a relative in the Duck family, mostly known as a companion of Moby Duck. First appeared in "The Vanishing Banister" by Vic Lockman and Tony Strobl.

5.)-6.) unknown Duck elders - known as the "the elders of the Duck clan" alongside Scrooge McDuck. The two appeared in the story, "The Giant Of Duckburg" by Vic Lockman and Tony Strobl.

7.) Gran'daddy Daniel - an anscestor of Donald who is known to be the one who spotted the great hurricane of 1878 which saved many lives. Is shown in the same story that featured the unknown Duck elders.

8.) Shamrock Gander - a nephew of Gladstone Gander. First appeared in a Daisy Duck story, "Family fortune" by Tony Strobl.

The Best Costume!

Today's the day!! It was Huey's Favorite Holiday! A day full of nothing but Family, Friends, Fun costumes, scares, staying up past your bedtime and of course endless and free candy!!! You guessed it! It's Halloweennn!!

The Red Nephew could not be more excited! He got on his home-made, hand crafted! Gizmo Duck costume and raced to his brothers to show them his costume and his trick or treat plan for tonight!

"This is it, one night, every house in town! And we'll score us enough to last us all year! Suit UP!" He announced as everyone got ready. Huey's face glowed as he got into character

"Blathering Blatherskite! I love Halloween! This is going to be the best Halloween Ever!!!" He fell over on the couch onto his back, flapping his arms with happy stims as the gang prepared for the most epic night ever!!

"Rawr! I am Baylord demon king of the evil eye!" Huey and Dewey tilted their heads at Webby until she explained the roots of Halloween and why her costume is significant they nodded before Dewey spoke

"I'm a pirate on vacation" The pair fist pumped as another voice entered the room

"There's nothing scary about tonight! Halloween is about candy and only candy! Forget the leg work I've got a plan that will make us candy billionaires!" The youngest smirked as he leaned against the doorframe

"And what's your costume supposed to be?" Huey asked before Louie put on one of Huey's hats and acted like him

"You are a lazy costumer and stop stretching my hat!" He ran over to try and take it off him before Louie pushed him back

"We have the same head!"

Huey sighed before smiling and assembling the team "Enough chit chat! Move out!" They all followed Huey as he spoke. And so the best Halloween ever had officially begun

"Okay! First stop, Rockerduck estate's for the big bars and the candy corn relay then! Down to Silverbeak for the Haunted Hayride Spooktacular and I've scheduled bathroom breaks so just hold it till' we get to Mrs Klopecks, Great bathroom, freshly tiled" He finishes before Louie interrupts him, stepping all over his plans

"Orrr we could ditch all of that, go to one place and get all the candy we could ever want!" He said with a smirk before Dewey chimed in

"We're going to a candy store?"

"What no it's night time candy stores are closed"

"WE'RE GONNA ROB A CANDY STORE?!" Dewey said this time with more excitement before Louie sighed again

"No, we're going to Hazel House...the most haunted house in all of Duckburg!"

Louie stepped inside after explaining the myth "we do this and we'll never have to trick or treat again! Free candy for life!!"

Everyone but Huey was excited

"I've never even heard of this place, why chase a phoney myth from a phoney Huey when we can go trick or treating"

"Woodchuck rule number sixty something go in that house now!" Louie yelled as everyone rushed in, Huey reluctantly following them

"So much for a perfect Halloween" He mumbled quietly to himself as they explored the creepiness that is 'Hazel House!' Everything was dark, old and abandoned. It was honestly everything you could think of if you ever pictured a true haunted house

It was a place Huey did not want to be, but there was no turning back now, the doors were locked and Louie was persistent on continuing forward.

"Go for it Dewey!" The middle child in blue gasped lighty before entering one of the rooms

"No screams so I think we're good!" Louie said as they entered. The rest of the night was filled with scare after scare until they reached the end of the house into the outside

"We did it! We completed the house! And with some time to spare we can make the butt end of the trick or treat trails!" Huey smiled as he pulled out his map

"Nuh uh no way! Where was the candy im going back in there!" He tried to go but he was stopped "Hault citizen! Let's forget about this half baked scheme and go get some candy!"

"Last time I checked we were a family of treasure seeking adventurers! Why stop now? Because this house isn't on your precious map! Well I'm putting it on there give it to me!" Louie ripped it out of Huey's hands before he was tackled to the ground as the wrestled for it until Webby and Dewey broke them up

"Wait a minute, you had it on your map the whole time!" Louie said as he spotted what Huey was hiding

"I did yes,,," Huey hung his head low before putting the map away

"You told us it was fake! You tried to get us to avoid it! What were you gonna do?! Horde all the candy for yourself!" Louie said angerly crossing his arms

"It's not like that I-" His speech was cut short when the monsters attacked again capturing the quad in twos!

"We have no candy!" Huey screamed out before everything came to a stop

"No candy? Are you kidding me!" They were put back down on the ground as one of the monsters spoke "It's midnight trick or treating is over and we waisted it all on these fools who don't even have any candy!"

It's over "I missed it..." Huey frowned before walking over to an empty stone wall, Louie not much later following after him taking a seat next to his oldest brother.

"So we made a mistake, at least we're still alive! And we met some monsters so that's pretty cool right?" Louie said trying to cheer him up but every word he said fell deaf to Huey's ears

"On the houseboat Halloween was our biggest adventure every year! We would suit up, face the unknown and sure it was just neighborhood trick or treating but it was ours"

"I was just trying to get an endless supply of candy,,, and thats the problem" Louie sighed as he looked at Huey

"I just didn't want this one to be our last Halloween"

Louie put an arm on his shoulder "Junior Woodchuck rule 99! Who cares about the candy! Let's go home and make it the best Halloween ever yeah?"

Huey smiled and nodded before they grabbed everyone else and went home.

While Dewey and Webby got the living room set up and ready for a movie night Louie went to talk to Huey in their room

"Hey, I'm really sorry about tonight.." Louie said rubbing the back of his neck

"It's okay Louie I'm not mad or upset with you" Huey smiled before patting a spot next to him and opening his arms for the youngest to rest in

Louie sighed in Hueys arms "I just wanted unlimited candy and I wasn't thinking"

"It's okay Louie I understand completely, I should have been more honest to begin with but I was just nervous and everyone was so excited to go in so"

Louie nodded before rolling his eyes "Let's promise to be more honest with each other from now on especially when it comes to our feelings"

Huey smiled and nodded "Deal, that was very smart of you Louie"

"Trade mark Louie Duuu- I mean! Junior Woodchuck rule number twelve "an honest soul never doubts his role"' The pair giggled before Louie spoke again

"You know your costume is okayyy, maybe second best but mine is number one!" The duck in green smirked before pushing Huey's mask over his face

Huey fumbled with it getting it up again before scoffing "You're just me Louie! All you did was put on a hat, my hat! I made this with my bare hands! Plus Gizmo Duck is the best so I definitely have the best costume, technically speaking!" He smirked before Louie smirked harder

"That's where your wrong Huebert! My costume is you, yes, buttt you failed to see passed its simplicity!"

Huey raised an eyebrow out of confusion before Louie evilly giggled

"I am you but which version of you am I hmm Huebert?" Louies smirk grew more as he straddled Hueys legs

"Gehet off of me, I don't know, the Duke of making a mess maybe?" He guessed pushing at Louie

"Great guess but nope immm,,," he leaned closer to whisper in Hueys ear "Tickle Monster Huey"

The Red Nephews eyes widened before he bursted out into giggles as Louie squeezed up and down the length of his sides under his cardboard costume

"Lohohouiee!" Huey tried pushing lightly at his hands as he shut his eyes

"Who's Louie? My names Huey and I'm Louies personal tickle monster" Louie imitated what Huey always says to him as he moved to his stomach

Huey threw his head back onto the pillow before kicking out his legs letting himself laugh

"StAhAHAp IhiHiT! GIhiIzMO DuHuHuck Has Noho! WeHeakNesseS!" He played along as Louies smirk grew

"He seems very ticklish to me" he blew a raspberry into Huey's neck as his helmet fell off Louie gasped jokingly "Another Huey?! Well no wonder Gizmo Duck is so ticklish he's another me! And if that's the case I know exactly the place that will get you laughing the most!"

"Wahahait Louie pleasEEEE- AHAHAHAHA!" Huey's arms flapped around happily as Louie scribbled behind his knees

"Such delicious laughter, now this beats any candy in the world! Tickle Tickle Tickleee~" The youngest squeezed his knees some more as Huey's face turned a light pink

"MEHEHERCY PLEAHAHAHASE!"

Louie stopped, rubbing away the ghost tickles and getting off of him

"I told you I have the best costume" Louie smirked before Huey giggled catching his breath

"Yeheah yeah whatever you say Louie"

"It's true because its based off of the best brother in the whole wide world" Louie smiled before he was tackled in a hug from Huey

"Thank you Louie, for everything"

"Anytime big bro, Anytime"

The sweet moment was soon interrupted by a voice calling out for them

"You two ready? We've got everything set up for the most epic Halloween night ever!!" Dewey smiled at them from the doorway as he spoke

Huey smirked at the youngest before getting up and running "Race you there!"

"Ughh effort!" Louie complained as he got up and started walking towards the living room

'Yep! Best Halloween Ever!!' Huey thought as he shoved a snickers bar in his mouth, wrapped up in a cozy blanket, surrounded by the people he loves the most.

Happy 60th birthday, John D. Rockerduck!

Although I may be late, 60 years ago, on December 3, 1961, the genius Carl Barks drew and wrote a comic book called "Boat Buster", where he first appeared, John D. Rockerduck, and who clashed with Scrooge and where Donald Duck participated in a boat race competition. Rockerduck was modeled on John D. Rockefeller, the king of oilmen of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Rockerduck did not appear much in American comics, but that is why he appeared very often in Brazilian and European comics, especially in Italian comics, where Rockerduck is a much bigger rival for Scrooge than Glomgold. Glomgold is also a great opponent of Scrooge and once Glomgold and Rockerduck were allies. Certainly, John D. Rockerduck has his ingenious partner, butler and secretary in one, and that is Lusky or Jeeves, Aunt Eider and his nephews Arsène, George, Patrick, Simeon and Ricky Rockerduck. Yes, we should not forget Rockerduck's parents, mother "Ciccia" and father Howard. Certainly, Rockerduck is involved in Oil tycoon and modern business, and often in conflict with Scrooge, he loses and certainly eats his hat. Unfortunately, unlike Glomgold, Rockerduck appeared only once in the animation and that was in the Ducktales reboot. Hopefully they will show up often. Certainly, as always, there are pictures of himself and his family through various comics and cartoons.

For me, he is one of the favorite characters in Duckverse and great villains. Happy birthday, dear Johnny! Yes, he is celebrating his 60th birthday!

My thoughts on the final. 8 out of 10 for me and here's why.

Positives first.

The villains. I love Bradford as a villain and his plan really was flawless. To me, Bradford is the scariest type of villain there is. Scrooge trusted this man for almost his whole life. Trusted him enough to be in charge of his money, and secrets. Only to get betrayed at the end. This is an actual thing that happens in real life. People we love, people we know for our whole lives, could just suddenly become horrible people and our love and trust in them breaks. And it hurts like crazy. And that's Bradford right there. He was close to Scrooge and betrayed him. Now the fact that Bradford never saw himself as the villian adds more to why these types of people are horrible. They blame others for their misfortune or for their bad traits. Like how Bradford told the family to look what they made him into after he grew into a monster. He's trying to put the blame on others instead of acknowledging that he's doing this to himself. Like at least the other villains like Glomp Gold and Magica know their villains. They're self aware unlike Bradford. Bradford doesn't like the thought of being a villain so he blames those that see him as the villain. Like dude! You imprisoned Gandra for indefinitely, trapped Ludwig Von Drake who just wanted to talk things out with you, imprisoned innocent people like Panchito and Jose. Why those two? Just because they were tricked into performing a concert at The Feast of the Flower? He straight up murdered his agents, and threw Donald in too. Not to mention he played a part in tearing the family apart once. And he keeps justifying it by saying "I'm not a villain". Which makes it worse! You can't just say you're not a villain or that others are trying to make you look like the villain. If you're not the villain then there's no need to say it. So yeah, I enjoy Bradford as a villain because he's the most realistic of the three main villains we had. Someone who has some good points but executes them poorly.

I also enjoyed the other villains like Phantom Bot and Pepper. I ship these two so much. 💖. Pepper being her talkative self and speaking her mind while Blot is being the strong silent type. My favorite line is also from Pepper "Look Blot! He's a full grown man with the strength of a baby!" I LOVE YOU PEPPER!!! And Blot being his aggressive self is enough for me. And thank you Lena for setting Gene free! Rockerduck being his spoiled self was also a treat. Having his servant fight for him and ordering a drink while he fought. 😂 Don Karnage was his lovable singing self, also he is dead now right? No way he survived that plane crash. Congratulations Dewey, you murdered a man while singing just like I always knew you would. Heron was also great. There's no doubt in my mind that she had some kind of attraction to Bradford after that "Oh Bradford, how villainous 😏" before dying. There's just something hilarious about Heron gracefully accepting betrayal and death like that. 😂 Steelbeaks was great. Finally using that smart ray on himself and still being the imbecile he is! Glomp Gold, Magica and the Beagles special appearance was also a treat.

Ok so our heros! I have to talk about Drake, Fenton and Launchpad! I love Drake for his balance of goofiness and heroicness. He's clearly a man who wants what's best for everyone and loves to be in the spotlight as well. Not to mention just how much fun it is to watch him being all goofy. He may have a child-like side and loves being the goofy hero he is, but he has his serious moments. Showing that just because you have a child-like personality doesn't mean you're not mature enough to handle serious situations. Just the way Drake comforted Fenton by telling him he isn't alone on this, to let others help him warms my heart. He knows Fenton so well and grew a personal connection with him. To the point where he refuses to believe Fenton is Gizmoduck. 😂 Poor guy is in denial. I feel bad for him because he's always in GizmoDucks shadow, which is why I screamed so loud when he and GizmoDuck shared the spotlight in the beginning of the fight with Steelbeaks. Great moment! And Fenton! I adore him and I love him so much more after this episode too! He was always the man with a heart of gold and always put others first. And they added even more to his character by making him such a romantic towards Gandra. I'm 100% sure she was on his mind throughout this whole adventure. Just the fact that he says it out loud that he wants to rescue her and his first reaction when they landed at the Lost Library was to rescue the prisoners was adorable. We all know he wanted to go save the prisoner's to find Gandra. Yeah I know he also cares for everyone else just as much but Gandra will always hold a special place in his heart. And then we have the moment with the two in the end credits. Just pure adorableness! Falling together, Fenton becoming GizmoDuck and catching her like he always does!!! Ah I can't help it! These two are cute!!! I also like how Fenton never did get to rescue her but it was Huey and the others that did and then she helped on rescuing the others. Breaks that whole damsel in distress cliche. I'm so sorry Fenton that you didn't get your shining armor moment, maybe next time? Then we have Launchpad. That guy finally had his shining moment. He was so insecure about not being a superhero that he couldn't see he was the one that inspired Fenton and Drake to become heros. That moment was so sweet and the fact that Launchpadpad became Gizmoduck was what made it perfect. And I loved how he crashed the suit too. 😂 and even the Gizmo Suit has an attitude "Eh, close enough."

Then we have the kids. Each one had their moment and I loved it. Violet was under used I'll admit, just wish they used her more. Like her woodchuck knowledge or her book smarts to find their way out of a maze, open a certain door to another room or help Lena out. Lena had her moment as well, making the airplane invisible showing just how powerful she has become. And let's consider that she nearly got killed by Phantom Blot in the first battle but this time she was able to battle him much better. Friendship really is her magic. Boyd is my favorite! I just love how him being just a head didn't even bother him one bit. Instead, Lil Bulb just uses his body to create a bobblehead Boyd. Let's not forget that "Take care of your brother." line. That one line made my heart sing. Louie was very realistic, "That is not at all comforting. I do not want to die." and he was also the same sharp boy we all know and love. I love the scene where he's pep talking Dewey into winning the battle against Don Karnage. And then we have Dewey flying the Sun Chaser by himself, fully embracing his talent. I'll talk about Huey and Webby later. Scrooge, Donald and Della also had their moment to shine as the original three! Loved it so much, just watching these three fight one last battle together was enough to almost make me cry. Beakly also had her moments like getting the chance to tell Webby the truth, even though it was a trick. I love how she wanted to make sure everyone was safe and went to fight F.O.W.L on her own only to learn her lesson near the end. The lesson that she can't keep secrets forever and she has to have trust in her family in order to win. And sure enough this lesson came from her oldest friend Scrooge Mcduck.

The humor was also the best! I loved the fact that Manny is actually some world ending monster and what does he have to say? "People change man! I just want to live a normal life!" 😆 I never expected Manny to talk let alone his voice sounding like that. And then we have the Gargoyles reference "I live again!..... Again!" Loved that, gold right there. Then we have Von Drake who admits that he isn't dead all because he doesn't have time to die! Oh if only life were that easy! Gyro was comedy gold as well with his line "When they do something right, they're heros! When things get too hard, we're children!" 😂 Love you Gyro!

Ok so one thing I have an issue with. You all know what it is so I'll make it as short as possible. Webbys backstory. I didn't like it. I have no issue with her being a clone and that Beakly found her, but Scrooge's daughter? It was unnecessary and here's why. Scrooge was already her father. He took care of her as his own, protected her, kept het happy, and was a wonderful role model to her. She was already his official none blood daughter. Making her Scrooge's blood related daughter does nothing to improve her character. If they wanted her as a clone, they could've done something else. Like maybe she could've been the clone of a well known F.O.W.L agent that died or disappeared. So F.O W.L tried to clone that agent by creating Webby. Nothing would need to change either, Beakly could've still found her, took her in and kept her safe with Scrooge. Webby would still have an identity crisis thinking she's the clone of a F.O.W.L agent and is destined to be a F.O.W.L agent. If they wanted to add June and May in, then use that same reason. Cloning F.O.W.L agents and raising them to be the evil like them. Or what about this? Use Beakley's story about her daughter. How Beakley wasn't there for her as much as she wanted to and maybe one day F.O.W.L talked Beakley's daughter into joining them. Making Beakley regret not being there for her daughter more. When her daughter tries to leave F.O.W.L she disappears all of a sudden. But then Beakly finds a baby clone of her daughter (Webby) and she takes this as a second chance to raise her daughter again. I'm just saying, anything would've been a better back story for Webby other than being Scrooge's clone. And as for Huey, he should've been the one to find the papyrus. Branford had him in his grasp. He had managed to manipulate Huey into helping him, so why not have him grab the papyrus. He is a direct descendent of Scrooge so why complicate things by having Huey talk to Webby? They weren't even sure if the papyrus was going to show itself to Webby!!! HUEY WAS RIGHT THERE BRADFORD!!!! It was so easy!!! Kidnap Huey, manipulate him into helping, then lock him up with Gyro, Drake and Gandra!!! I'm not saying I didn't enjoy Huey and Webby here, I did. Huey using his woodchuck knowledge allowing his brothers to find him and Webby using the skills her granny showed her made me proud. I love seeing these two using the skills they learned while living in the mansion.

Other than that, the final was great and I loved it. I just wish Webbys background was different and more unique than being Scrooge's daughter. Oh! And the end credits were wonderful! I love how the poster was basically a foreshadow of it!

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck: The Last of the Clan McDuck!  Review “It Was Worth THE Dime”

This is one of my faviorite comic book stories of all time. Given i’m a massive comics nerd, for both books and strips, that is the highest praise I can give this wonderful, epic, beautifully drawn and deeply emotoinal story. I first discovered it in the local library that had the second volume, and found the rest online at a now long dead fan site. And while it took me longer than I care to admit to really dig into Duck Comics, and even now i’ve only scratched the surface, I can say without a doubt this story is the reason I’m so deeply attached to Scrooge as a character, and that I was excited as  I was for Ducktales 2017. This comic showed me just what Scrooge McDuck should be at his core as a character, and showed me what a wonderful character that is. So with all that glowing praise as you can guess i’ve been wanting to cover this for years, and even considered though back when I was more primarily a comic book reviewer last year. Any time i’ve reviewed stuff before now, i’ve considered it, and with Scrooge’s Sisters Hortense and Matilda presumably and definitely debuting on Ducktales soon, and it’s about damn time, the timing could not be better or clearer to dig into this utter triumph.  But before we can take a look at the story itself we naturally have to take a look at the man behind it: Writer and Artist Don Rosa. Don Rosa is easily one of the best Duck Comics writer out there, seen by many as only second to his own faviorite duck comics writer and God of Ducks, Carl Barks. For those 1 of you who do not know, Barks was the man who created pretty much everything in the duck universe comics wise and a bit in animation too: He created Daisy, Scrooge, Gladstone, Magica, The Beagle Boys, The Junior Woodchucks, Gyro, Little Bulb, Glomgold, Rockerduck, and the list goes on. While he didn’t make EVERY duck, he made so many that it’d be impossible to imagine either version of Ducktales being possible without him.  So of course Rosa was a fan and while he took up the family buisness, he was also an artist and duck comics fanboy on the side. So when, even if it meant a paycut, the opportunity to actually write and draw them came up, he lept at it and thus became one of their publishers go to guys, even if said publisher published the stories overseas where the Duck Comics are far more popular and still going to this day, and ironically where most duck comics printed nowadays get their stories from. Rosa was known for his meticous historical research and gorgeous art that he took his time drawing to get just perfect and showed on the page. The man has easily some of hte best and most detailed duck art around and I still haven’t found a duck artist that can match him.. and if you have or found one close i’d genuinely love to see that. He is a genuinely talented, spirited guy who was sadly mistreated by disney and that, coupled with tragically failing eyesight, eventually ended his career. He’s still around and I genuinely hope to meet him some day as he still does conventions.  The man is not without fault: I don’t get his hatred of superhero comics, as while I get them overshadowing funnybooks and that around the time of his career they were in decline, but it’s just as unfair to write off Superhero comics as mindless.  garbage as it is for people to write off the Duck Comics as “only for kids” and I genuinely wish he’d see that and see how the medium has evolved so much since then. I also grumble a bit as his refusal to allow anything besides barks into his bubble, and having to be forced to include fethry on the family tree, but that’s more personal preference. I like using as much material as you got. IT’s why i’ve wanted to, and hopefully will eventually get around to, write a sonic fanfic using bits of all the various universes that for legal, ken penders being an absolute waste of a human being, and sega being stupid reasons can’t be used anymore. I like taking everything in a franchise and putting it in a blender and it’s why I love the reboot. But there’s nothing wrong with taking things as is, not stepping on toes canon wise, but still being awesome. We’re just diffrent people and that’s okay.  And a lot of his fanboy showing actually lead to REALLY good things: Goldie O’Gilt was a one off character, and while used ocasoinally overseas, didn’t really pick up as a character again until a combination of Ducktales 87 and Rosa’s work with her, as he always loved the character, and fleshing her out lead to her being used more, and gaining a sizeable fandom. He also gained the Cablleros an even bigger fandom by giving them two stories of their own, and fleshing them out a bit more.  And this very comic is the peak of that, taking EVERY mention of scrooge’s past from various backstories to set up adventures, every tiny scrap, and to his credit going to both Barks Himself and various other Barks Experts Rosa was friends with to check his work, especially difficult given he likey had to find these stories in issue or pullt hem from disney archives, and complied it into one long epic that not only uses all this info effortlessly, but spins a compelling story that gives us a clear vision of what Scrooge should be, how he became the man he is, and how he lost himself only to find himself again with the help of three precocious boys and a cynical 30 something duck. So taint all bad is what i’m saying.  As for how this got started, thankfully rosa himself provided the origin story for this project in the back of the volume of his works that contained the first 7 chapters of life and times, as well as detailed notes for every chapter. At the time Rosa was working for Egmont, the big european publisher who handles Disney’s much larger european comics market, hence why most of his stories appeared years earlier in Europe before debuting here. The american publisher at the time , and an old friend of his, called Rosa with an idea: A 12 issue Maxi-Series focusing on Scrooge’s history, since at the time they were all the rage.. and really even today mini series are still a viable market and many indie titles just have several minis instead of an ongoing. So it wasn’t a bad idea, Rosa just simply offered a tweak: He’d tell his publisher at Egmont about the idea, and let her get a crack team of writers and artists to do this proper, and thus Disney could publish it for free once it was done and for no extra cost. Rosa gave his publisher a fax detaling both the idea and the fact that it needed to be done right, given to the best person possible, and done with the greatest care. She agreed.. and naturally handed it to him, as he admits he hoped. She made the right call, a legend was born and here we are.  One last bit before the read more and before I get to the first story itself at last: Since barks wrote a lot of side stories that fit into the canon, I COULD slot them in between chapters, but have instead chosen to review the original 12 part story as was, and do the various side stories and two epilogues, the utterly fantastic “Dream of a Life Time”, easiliy one of my faviorite comics ever, and the also really great “Letter From Home”, which will likely on some level be the basis for the upcoming at the time of this review “Battle for Castle McDuck!”, after completing the story. In other words i’m probably going to be at this for years. so join me under the read more won’t you as I begin the journey of a thousand miles with a single step as we look at the humble start of a legend. 

We begin, after a fun short teaser with present Day scrooge saying his past is no one’s buisness only to get hit with an oh yeah?,  with a scrap book title for the issue, something I want to bring up since while I got that’s what it was what I never got, and  must’ve glanced over when I first read rosa’s notes when I got this copy, was that it isn’t SCROOGE’S scrap book, but his sister Matilda’s who dutifully and happily catologued her brother’s adventures. It’s a really sweet moment.. and something that will hit VERY hard when we reach Chapter 11. If you haven’t read this story or heard of it.. .that’s this story’s equilvent of “Last Crash of the Sunchaser” and clearly Frank and Matt drew from that story a bit for it, but we can get more into the parallels when we get there. A smaller but fun note is that Rosa had specific coin drawing templates, for different indentions and what not he used, and used them for the coins in these intro bits. Yes he admitted he has a problem and yes that’s damn impressive anyway. 

It’s Scrooge’s 10th birthday, and his father Fergus has taken him up to see the family land, Dismal Downs to tell him of the mighty Clan McDuck and show him the ancestral lands, graveyards and Castle. He admits to having taken this long because the Clan McDuck currently lives in Glasgow so it’s kind of a long trip just to show your son “Hey look at the decay and rot that’s our ancestral homeland”. The Clan is on hard times, as a bad shipping deal, the backbone of a rather good barks story and I wont’ be interjecting for every barks reference as it’d get rather tiring though for what it’s worth Rosa provided tons of detailed footnotes in the back of each Fantagraphics collection, so good on him. Speaking of which though they do include 10 pages of Mc Duck family history that was supposed to open this story.. until Rosa’s editor wisely pointed out the story isn’t about them but scrooge and having read his roug draft, yeah.. there’s a good gag here and there, as well as “Dirty” Dingus McDuck, scrooge’s Grandpa and the reason Dewey is cursed with that middle name. Why anyone thought Dingus was a good name is beyond me, nor why Donald thought that was a good middle name back in 2009 is again, beyond me. Good on Don though for getting that past the censors.  But yeah with no money they can’t buy the land back and they were scared off it years ago by a mystical ghost dog, the hound of the whiskervilles. There is treasure in the castle, Sir Quackly’s gold, but he accidently sealed himself into a wall while sealing his treasure in there. Their interrupted by the town assholes, the Whiskervilles who have been grazing sheep on the land and are naturally behind the hound, using the sound of it to scare off Fergus once they realize he’s a McDuck. Because apparently you can keep a Scooby Doo style hoax up for Centuries if you don’t have meddling kids around. Who knew.  Back in Glasgow, we meet the rest of Scrooge’s family: His Uncle Jake, his sisters Matilda and Hortense, and his mother Downy. Jake hasn’t really been mentioned at all in Ducktales and I know next to nothing about him, which given I share a name with the guy you’d THINK I would. I mean I know a decent amount about this Jake. 

But nothing about who the hell Jake McDuck is or why he lives with his brother and his family. Here, you guys watch the dancing Jake, i’m going to probably do that for hours after this review is done, i’m going to go sort this out.  Okay one google and finding the Scrooge Mcduck wiki page on him, Jake shows up here likely because he was referenced in the story “A Christmas For Shacktown” and apparently borrowed from Scrooge and never paid it back. Otherwise.. there’s not a lot about him and unlike the rest of Scrooge’s family he really dosen’t do much that I can remember. Except like 2017 Scrooge, he apparently has become extremely long lived, as Scrooge and Donald STILL think he’s alive in the 1950′s.. and likely is STILL alive in some form in the Don Rosa stories, given his take place after Barks and thus in the 40′s and 50′s where Barks stories were set. Hence why unlike the Reboot, Scrooge isn’t inexpecilbly over 210. But Jake McDuck sure as heck is. Maybe this highlander is a highlander.. you know the movie and tv show type. Maybe someone cut off his head. That’s what i’m going with.

This does bring me to another point about this story: While Barks gave all of scrooge’s family their names, it’s where Rosa got them after all, it’s Rosa who really made them into characters. Fergus as a loving father ashamed his family legacy has fallen and wanting his son to do better than him, Downy as an equally loving wife and mother, Matilda as his sweet and caring sister and later her brother’s moral center, and Hortense.. well here she’s just a babbling baby but her character will become clear and glorious as we go. She is adorable here though and we do get some great bits with her.  Getting back to the plot now i’ve made my points, Jake is riled up wanting to understandably kick the Whiskerville’s asses with Scrooge, who even as a sweet innocent ten year old still has the family temper already, agreeing.. but Downy gently shoots them out pointing that two middle aged-ish men and a 10-year old just aren’t enough to fight an army of them and while she doesn’t mention it the fight would just tire them out for work and accomplish nothing as while it is the McDuck’s land the combination of the hound and the lack of money to move back means it’s pointless. She also mentions their younger brother Pothole, who went to America. This will be important later. 

Scrooge storms off and Fergus laments, in a scene that’s more painful the more I think about it, how his clan has fallen, with he and his brother lamenting their chances at glory are long gone.. but Fergus has hope his son can do better, and for his son’s birthday makes him a shoeshine kit in the hopes of inspiring him to greatness. This scene still resonates since many of us are poor, struggling and not doing so good money wise. I’m sure many parents have doubts and regrets about not being able to do more for their kid.

 Not only that but the story carefully avoids the trap of Fergus accidently being abusive by you know, pinning his family’s future on one 10 year old. While yes he is asking a lot of Scrooge, to restore their family name.. it’s very clear he mostly just wants his son to do better than him. Even if Scrooge was just slightly more successful, Fergus would likely be happy with that. He’s not using the legacy as a “This what you must be” like say the Gems in steven universe did for Steven with Rose’s Legacy, the kind where it sort of suffocates you till youc an make it your own. He’s just saying “this is what you can be” He believes his child can be great and simply once him to reach his full potetial and is simply giving him a means to hopefully do so, a simple home made shoe shine kit. While Jake scoffs, the narration notes the idea isn’t worth a dime.. it’s worth THE dime. The dime that would set Scrooge’s destiny in motion. 

The next morning, Fergus goes to check up on his son and his new buisness but Scroogey’s having no luck and about ready to just quit, the poor child. Also Matilda is dragging her baby sister around like a doll and it’s entirely precious as it is funny. 

But as for those Dorty Boots, Matilda wonders why her dad dosen’t just tell Scrooge that Burt the Ditch Digger is coming. Fergus tells her to quite and then explains his plan: he’s sending Burt to scrooge, with an American dime Fergus and Matilda found, to teach his son a lesson: By giving him a hard days work, he’ll teach him what hard work truly means.. and by having Burt “cheat” him with the American dime, it’ll give him the motivation to keep going and to nto be as wide eyed and trusting. It’s a well meaning if harsh lesson, and the kind you’d expect from 1900′s parenting and fits the origin well: Scrooge still earned his first money square, as he still did work.. but his getting cheated being a lesson dosen’t diminish what it taught scrooge, and helps flesh out what I talked about above, Fergus knowing his son has great potential he just needs inspiration to reach it. And instead of just telling him that he does a con job but it’s the 1900′s. This orign, and Fergus’ part in it would be entirely untouched in Ducktales 2017, the first scrooge based adaptation since this comic came out, and I bless them for it. Frank even said this comic was used as a bible by the writers and while theirs clear deviations, and we’ll get to that, they were mainly done for good reason, and it’s very clear that while scrooge’s history is very VERY diffrent in the reboot, the core of his past is still there. 

So the plan is on and young scrooge spends half an hour killing himself to get Burt’s shoes clean before getting his dime.. and realizing he’s been had, makes this proud decleration that will be the bedrock of his entire life and character. 

Scrooge being naturally stubborn as you can see takes his cheats a leson: There will always be hard honest work, and he will be there to do it and he’ll be tougher and sharper than anyone trying to cheat him out of his pay. Fergus’ plan has the intended effect, and Scrooge having learned a hard lesson now has the drive and determination we know him for. As for why it gives it to him.. I had to think on it a bit but it makes sense: For some a setback like this would make them quit.. for Scrooge it’s just proof he CAN find customers, he CAN do this job, or any at his hardest and instead takes this as a lesson to be prepared ot out think and outfight anyone who dares cheat him again, and to not earn his money by being the kind of guy who cheats a kid out of an honest days pay, but as a good honest duck like his father and his father before him. =He will make his money square so he can be the kind of person this seeming stranger SHOULD have been. Granted we’ll see Scrooge doesn’t end up as the best person at times but .. we’ll get there.  So with the fire inside turned from a spark into the flame Scrooge soon got to work, and by the next panel we see he’s eventually worked his stand up from a small box given to him by his dad, to a three seater shoeshining bench, who he wipes all at once by stretching one of his mother’s girldes over a light pole, a detail I didn’t get the first time around but now love. Naturally being a good kind boy much like his Nephews, Scrooge always gave his proud father a portion of his earnings, if with a full receipt for tax purposes. Because he’s still scrooge after all. His dad wonders he did too good a job while Hortense glxbit’s in agreement. 

As the years go on, a now tween Scrooge is eventually able to save up for a horse cart, and starts selling Fire Wood up in the city. He eventually realizes Peat, an earthy subtance found in bogs I only know about because I had to look it up for this review, is more profitable and with some snappy marketing moves into selling Peat for the rich instead, also showing the young lad already has a grasp of how to sell to obnoxious rich people. 

But while his business is booming, our young hero can’t resist visiting his family’s ancestral home and longing for it, hoping one day to have it for himself and in a nice show of how despite his temper and tenacity forged over the last few years he’s still at hear the kind, sweet optimistic lad he was just a few pages ago, he decides to tidy up the Clan’s Cemetary while he’s here. 

Unfortunately as proof that Donald and Della’s terrible luck comes from both sides of the family the Whiskervilles are sub-glomgold levels of human beings.. or Dogfaces in this case, and are digging up the McDuck Clan’s graves to hunt for treasure. Scrooge tries to simply do the smart thing and flee, but the asshole brigade catch sight of him and mistkaing him for a peat burgalar chase after him.. and spend WAY too much time and energy chasing a teenage boy over some fucking bog grass you clearly aren’t selling yourselves. I mean spare a thought for how dumb this is: They could easily sell of of that peat to put up a fence or chop down some trees to get the material if their really that concerned about someone getting in the bog. Then again this isn the 1800 and 1900′s where the child death toll was simply “Yes”, so they likely thought whose gonna notice one more dead child on our property?

Scrooge heads toward the castle and is gestured in by a friendly mystery duck who gladly shows him around and can tell he’s a McDuck just by look, showing the castle is still in glorious condition as the whiskervilles are too spooked to go in, hence why they didn’t chase Scrooge inside. I’d say being afraid of ghosts but not murdering a child is weird but these are the same guys who thought murdering a child was plan A. We’re not dealing with a brain trust is what i’m saying.  So the mystery duck shows Scroogey around, showing off some colorful stories about his ancestors recycled from that scrapped prologue I mentioned. THe mystery man, who brushes off Scrooge thinking he’s a McDuck asks Scrooge what he’s doing to restore the family glory and while Scrooge points out he’s already working on it, Mystery Duck points out he’s still missing something: He has the drive and the dream, but peat and shoeshining, while getting him good money for his family, aren’t the thing you can build a fortune or a future off of. He then points out where Scrooge’s dime comes from: America.. and that gives the boy the idea to head to the states. As for what he could possibly DO there to start, the mystery guy mentions his uncle pothole. So Scrooge has the dream, the drive.. and now a plan: Go to america, work for his uncle on the riverboats, and work his way up from there till he finds his fortune and restores his family name.  But while his future is settled, the present is still an issue and Scrooge wants to teach the child murder club a lesson and thus borrows, though MM wisely points out it’s all his property a horse and some armor, and stuffs the armor with peat. As for what his plan is.. welllll

That.. is fucking awesome. And far from the last fucking awesome moment in this thing. It also shows off even as not quite a teen yet, Scrooge is still a badass already, and while he doesn’t have his trademark strength or fighting skills quite yet, his ingenuity is already there.. and that will always trump both. The Whiskervilles run away and into some quicksand and Scrooge vows to return one day as laird and reclaim his family land. But that’s a story for a few chapters down the line. As for who the mystery duck is, he’s naturally Sir Quackely himself, or rather his ghost, who was simply guiding Scrooge and didn’t give him the treasure as simply handing him the money wouldnn’t restore their family’s good name or continue their bloodline now would it? 

For now Scrooge returns to work for a bit before finding his way to America: A cattleboat to New Orleans looking for a Cabin Boy. And so Scrooge bids farewell to his family. His Dad, feeling bad he can’t even give his boy shilling, gives him the family pocketwatch with jake pitching in with the family gold dentures. While Scrooge naturally refuses to sell the watch, he does plan to sell the teeth as soon as possible for good reason. We then get some sweet goodbyes with him, his sisters (With hortense uttering her first words to everyone’s astonishment) and loving mother as he wonders just what awaits him in America. 

And there he stands on the bow of a ship, heading for a new land, in New Orleans he can be a new man. And we’ll see just what kind of man he becomes as this series continues. For now this is the end of a chapter but the beginning of a lifetime. 

Final Thoughts on Last of the Clan McDuck:

This story is excellent. While there are even better chapters to come, this one is still one of the most memorable and most joyous, showing just how Scrooge became what he is, where some of his values come from, others will be instilled along the way , and beginning to flesh out his family. We see Scrooge’s love of wealth comes from starting from the bottom, growing up with a family that barely had anything and badly needed everything, but was loving and instilled fine morals in him. We also see a Scrooge far removed from the bitter old man he is in present day, an optimistic naïve young lad who only wants best for his family. It’s a nice stark contrast to who he’ll become, good and bad, and a nice way to both compare him to Huey Dewey and Louie and break your heart as his own hardens before briefly turning black later on.  The art, as is standard for this series and Rosa, is breathtaking, and the story isn’t lacking in good jokes, their just downplayed so the story itself can take center stage. There’s nothing really more to say: it’s an excellent start to an even more excellent tale and stands proud among an already stellar story as one of it’s finest outings. 

NEXT RAINBOW: Scrooge goes down to the mighty Missipi to work on the riverboats and meets one of his signature Rogue’s for the first time in their first form, as well as Gyro’s dad.. or grandpa.. or possibly both I don’t know his family tree. Escape From The Impossibin!: An Exercise Of Trust & Hope.

So, I was predicting for this episode to have Della & Louie bonding time together, which there were cool moments with them to be sure. However, what I really liked about today’s story was how it focused on the aftermath of FOWL’s reveal to still be very much alive to Scrooge’s horror and Beakly’s greatly underlying concern. A couple of days ago before Impossibin premiered today, I chatted with some others on Discord about what this episode’s story would explore for its overall message, which the more I thought about, the more I leaned on the idea it would be centered around the notion of trust. Let’s Get Dangerous had a consistent theme of deceitful liars being revealed who weren’t whom they appeared to be, as seen with Taurus Bulba vs Drake Mallard & Bradford’s true nature being known to Scrooge at that hour special’s ending. 

Escape From The Impossibin is all about confronting the growing tension that’s become a threat to a content family lineage of adventurers, who now have to defend everything they stand for in their legacy, once again. That’s something I’ve always appreciated about DuckTales is even when it doesn’t entirely match my predictions, it finds other new ways to surprise me for what it can do. Della & Louie didn’t necessarily get the bonding time I had hoped for, which did admittedly disappoint me, but they did a serve a purpose in their own right that I’ll get to later. Anyways, the spotlight is on the older mentor figures, Scrooge McDuck and Bentina Beakly, who are all too familiar in dealing with FOWL’s antagonism before in Season 1′s episode, The Confidential Case Files Of Agent 22, that especially applies to Beakly’s past in fighting them as an agent of SHUSH for very much longer compared to Scrooge. With how much is at stake you’d very much expect there to be old feelings being drudged up, regarding Scrooge’s trust and respect for Bradford, as well as Beakly’s strict over protective nature with Webby to keep her safe from losing that optimism that makes her stand out as a beacon of hope to inspire others, which they do. FOWL isn’t like Magica or Lunaris who want to make themselves known flat out to the world with their egos. They’re very cunning and cold blooded with going about executing their plans for control of the Earth. Particularly, Bradford is the serious threat most of all because he’s the brains of this outfit giving precision in each order to those under his command. Combine Bradford’s knowledge with the muscle of Steelbeak, Rockerduck’s underhanded scheming, Gandra Dee’s scientific intellect, Black Heron’s lust for more power, and Phantom Blot’s ability to absorb all kinds of magic that gives the McDucks’ a severe scenario they’ve never faced. FOWL is the right combination to put an end to Scrooge’s adventuring because Bradford has kept a close eye on him for so many years. Bradford has seen plenty of Scrooge at his total best and worst most of all. He’s studied upon every detail of Scrooge’s life, for who knows how many years, and is finally putting all of it to use against him, where we get to see the extent of just how well Bradford can read every one of his moves. Lunaris’ intellect was simply a figurative puddle compared to what Bradford managed to accomplish with his high IQ.

The scary thing is Scrooge knows this reality himself, too. 

That’s one of my favorite elements of Impossibin’s purpose. We get to see Scrooge seriously doubt his abilities. In episodes, like The Most Dangerous Game Night and The 87 Cents Solution, Scrooge has always prided himself in being a very sharp individual who could see every angle and any detail that others couldn’t. Bradford, on the other hand, rivals Scrooge’s thinking that puts an eerie perspective on things for the old man. Scrooge always thought to be one step ahead of the game, but then realizes that someone who’s been by his side for so very long played him like a fiddle all those years. Who’s to say Scrooge isn’t probably thinking back on stuff such as Bradford shutting down his rescue operation for Della, controlling his money usage, letting Louie hang around Bradford in The Richest Duck In The World, finalizing Gyro’s inventions, etc? Scrooge realizes he’s had a dangerous character around the family manor all those years, which makes him doubt his ability to trust himself in protecting everything that he holds importantly in life. Scrooge isn’t just thinking he’s been fooled, he’s doubting every aspect of what made him competent to begin with. Doesn’t help among this moment of self reflection Bradford is there to further rub in that harsh reality of how much he knows about Scrooge.

This moment gave me chills because it completely put a spin upon the story’s concept. I figured that FOWL would hack Scrooge’s security system, with help from Gandra Dee’s abilities, and I’m glad it went this route, since it shows how dangerous things are this time. They’re not even safe within the confines of their own manor anymore, considering Bradford knows every nook and cranny of it. Scrooge thought only he knew the security system’s password, given its based on the amount of all money in his money bin, but Bradford covered that crucial detail, too. Bradford isn’t leaving any loose ends toward Scrooge in how he’ll go about using any little thing against him for future reference. That’s what makes the stakes higher here than compared to Lunaris’ invasion. This is a much more personal story between a clash of ideals with Adventuring vs Control. Lunaris lacked that emotional connection here Bradford is making Scrooge have to face that adds another layer of tension to this situation. Bradford wants Scrooge to know, “I have control over you. There is nothing you know that I’ve already figured out about yourself.”, and going about hacking the robotic version of himself is the best way to send home that message to him. It can also be interpreted as symbolism for Scrooge fighting his own insecurities when Bradford takes control of the robot to start attacking.

I need you, the two most cunning individuals I know, to spot any weaknesses.

Now, Della & Louie did serve a big purpose, despite the Plot A point focusing greatly on Scrooge’s existential dilemma, for they were there to remind Scrooge of just how much of an impact his life style has had on them. Della & Louie’s teamwork together throughout the episode is a perfect way to give Scrooge a reality check reminder for how skilled they are as adventurous fighters against unknown dangers. After all, Scrooge passed on his skills to Della, who’d later pass down her intellectual skills to him, too. Again, tying into the whole theme of legacy and what not about how much family can bring out the best in each other. If it wasn’t for what Scrooge had taught them, then he wouldn’t have been saved by Louie’s defining act of being a badass, by willingly diving into the pile of money, which got hit by a gravity changing rosa rune from the robot and ended up crushing it. I wanted to see more mature Louie, so him lifting Scrooge up about how much pride he has in the family lineage was a great nod to it. That in turn, allowed Scrooge to remember why he and their family are strong together. You know, after recent events that have happened in my life, seeing legacy be explored in DuckTales Season 3 means a lot to me now more than ever.

As for Beakly’s B Plot, in terms of how it ties into a neat bow with Scrooge’s story, shows how intense she’s getting at the notion of eventually facing FOWL again. Honestly, I’m not surprised if she’s getting flashbacks of whatever painful or traumatic events happened to her in those Agent 22 days. I mean, for God’s sake, she tells Webby to straight up incapacitate Huey, who was already so scared. Something Webby refuses to agree with as the best course of training methods to better prepare against the greater threat. Beakly’s characterization has always fascinated me with how well she guards her vulnerability, kind of like Goldie in a way, but the difference here is outta great concern for others rather than herself. My mind can’t stop thinking about this scene, as there could most likely be underlying context for why Beakly is getting so worked up over this training. It seems Beakly is carrying a tremendous weight on her shoulders, probably some heavy angst, that it looks like she wants to say, but can’t because of bigger story reasons we’ll find out later in Season 3′s final batch of episodes. Special mention to Donald Duck putting his foot down on Beakly’s very intense training session. Donald knows the trials and errors of what it means to be a parent. He was once very overly protective of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, but learned to let them experience the world for what it is and not hold them back, so I liked how it ties into Beakly’s dilemma of trying to protect Webby from FOWL’s heartless nature.

Beakly’s plot may have not gotten much focus, but it did a very good job setting up more angst to come between her and Webby’s relationship. Things are gonna get very complicated between them when more things come to light. I’m keeping an eye on Huey’s line specifically. When he said, “The one thing we know for sure is that we trust each other, right?”, Beakly did want to bring herself to apologize of course, but I also think she was close to wanting to confess something else to Webby, too. I’m expecting this moment to be called back to when stuff hits the fan with Beakly’s past and whatever Webby’s origins are.

Escape From the Impossibin may have unsettling stuff lurking around the corner with how FOWL managed to distract them with the security system, so they could steal away every missing mystery the family has found so far, but there’s a glimmer of light in all of that darkness. A light that is a reminder of what makes the McDuck family an unstoppable force of trust, hope, and most importantly love. Frank said that things were gonna start going into overdrive with FOWL’s battle against McDuck and he wasn’t kidding around. I’m so overjoyed were getting more episodes in November after this episode finished because that would’ve been a painful wait. Season 3 is gonna start giving things it built up a big pay off and I’m totally here for that!

Opinions on Ducktales (2017) Villains:

Overarching Season Villains:

Magica: she was an amazing villain in season 1 imo. The whole Lena thing, how she was controlling her, it was great. The shadow war was pretty good. She was also funny and I enjoyed her interactions with Scrooge and all. After her defeat tho, she was hella annoying. She also looks better green. She peaked in season 1. Phantom and The Sorceress was like one of my least favorite episodes.

Lunaris: so I hate the moon plot so FUCKING much. However, I did find Lunaris to be a great villain. I am naive and trusting, so the twist got me (Lance Reddick also played Broyles on Fringe and so I would have trusted him with my life. Therefore, I did not expect him to be evil). I thought was very threatening as a villain as well. I just hate. The. Moon. Plot.

F.O.W.L: they were extremely interesting at first and now I’m just bored. Hope something neat happens tho. They were discovered too easily. Black Heron: amazing design. Definitely chaotic evil. Interesting. Bradford: enjoyed the twist villain aspect. Interesting character. The definition of lawful evil.

Other Villains:

Mark Beaks: they should have leaned more into crazy rather than cringey. He was legitimately threatening once upon a time. Now he’s just annoying as hell.

Glomgold: funny. Love his rivalry with Scrooge. The scene at Scrooge’s “funeral” will forever be the funniest Ducktales scene.

Don Carnage: I never watched Talespin, so he’s not nostalgic for me. He’s kinda funny. His first episode was entertaining. I love that he hates Dewey. I could take him or leave him tho.

Ma Beagle: absolutely annoying. Hate anytime she or the beagle boys are in an episode.

Doofus Drake: what a creepy fucking child. Keep him away from all people (especially Louie) and get him some fucking therapy PLEASE.

Rockerduck: I remember so little about him. I just remember him being annoying and weird.

Zeus: he’s just a dick. His children are the sweetest, tho.

Darkwing Villains:

Jim/Negaduck: he was so threatening. That episode is what got me to watch Darkwing Duck in the first place and I have to say I was disappointed that his character in the original show didn’t have as interesting of a backstory as this Negaduck. “They want grim and gritty huh? Happy to play the part,” and then his LOOK at the CAMERA with his CRAZY FUCKING EYES??? 1000000/10. I’m disappointed he just stayed in the sewers for the whole series and we’ll never see him again. Wasted potential.

Steelbeak: annoyingly stupid at times. But his design SLAPS. His voice is good. I prefer this voice for him (and this VA is know for playing rather strange characters) and like I love Rob Paulson but his og Steelbeak voice was annoying. I didn’t actually watch many og Darkwing episodes with Steelbeak so I don’t feel cheated by his character or anything.

Taurus Bulba: really interesting and innovative character choice for him in Ducktales. I preferred everything about him in this one to his Darkwing counterpart. I wasn’t even sure he’d still be a villain, that’s how good it was. Just good takes all around.

The Fearsome Four: I wish they had stayed in St. Canard. Who are Drake, LP, and Gos even fighting??? Splatter Phoenix?? Anyway, I was SO happy to see my boys. Quackerjack: my favorite. He looked the same, had the same VA, and got a lot of screen time. I can’t complain at all. Liquidator: I don’t know why they made him like buff in this one. Made him look weird. I also missed the watery effect behind his voice. Still had great salesperson lines. Megavolt: had good lines. Sounded the same but I know it wasn’t the same VA. Translated well to the Ducktales style. Bushroot: they did him SO dirty with his look being inspired by Twin Beaks. I know his VA passed but like, they really did Dr. Reginald Bushroot dirty. Tho I’m glad his backstory was at least talked about.

5.  The Last Adventure!: There’s an equal amount of stuff the Last Adventure does right as it does wrong but it’s without a doubt a very strong finale for the show.

4.  The Duck Knight Returns!: Absolutely great episode with an amazing arc on characters, twists and more. The ending is great and I wish it had a decent follow up on.

3.  The Phantom and the Sorceress!: One of my favorite villains gets introduced, has an amazing voice actor and dukes it out with another favorite villain of mine. Really love this episode.

2.  The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck!: Hot damn this has such a dark moment and shows that these shows should be allowed to do some darker stuff in it. More of this please.

1.  The Shadow War!: Great first season finale build up over several episodes, with before one of their better so it is even better here. 

Favorite character

Scrooge, Donald, Phantom Blot, Magica de Spell, Flintheart Glomgold, Darkwing Duck and Launchpad. Also special shout out for Webby. 

Least favorite character

I really never got around to fully liking their version of Steelbeak till the finale. Other than him Rockerduck is pretty insuferable.

Donald/Daisy. The show sold this one on me by having it be the healthies presentation of these two. 

Favorite non-romantic relationship

Phantom Blot and Pepper. These are my two braincells coming together and having fun. 

Favorite villain/arc

Phantom Blot really was a fun villain but I think overall Magica was the better one of them all. Her arc to seize power once more and her one episode with Poe was... just so good. 

Least favorite villain/arc

I never got to like Ma Beagle. I think she is too one dimensional. And as said Steelbeak and Rockerduck were not for me. I prefer the OG Steelbeak.

A Very Long and Very Convoluted Gyro Gearloose Season 3 Theory

Hey everyone! Either by sheer impatience from the hiatus or genuine brainpower or maybe a mix of both, I’ve pieced together a really long, convoluted theory for season 3. It still has a few holes but I don’t think they’re anything that could be filled in until we have a lot more information, so I’m not too worried about that. As expected, it’s very Gyro-centric and started because I was thinking too hard about one thing in particular. I’m really not expecting anyone to read this but without further ado, let’s get to that thing first!

Who will Gyro interact with the most in season 3?

That’s the question that REALLY started to make me think.

This was a huge shock to me, especially since I thought Gyro would be interacting with Fenton the most in season 3 by what we do know. The “spoilers” made me think that it would be someone we haven’t met yet but then, it was revealed that this character has already been in the show. I started to go over the options in my head because there really aren’t many that make sense.

I don’t believe it’s a character that Gyro’s already interacted with a lot, like Fenton, Lil Bulb, Manny, Scrooge or even Huey. Frank probably would have been able to say that since it’s something we’re all expecting. Therefore, it’s either someone he’s either never interacted with or someone he’s interacted with a little but not a lot. I find it unlikely that it’s another character who already has prior commitments in season 3 (Gandra has Fenton, Beakley has Black Heron, etc.) and I doubt it’s any of the kids if it’s not Huey because Frank said Gyro gets along with Huey the best.

It could be Della but while I would love to see her interact with Gyro, I doubt they’d interact more than him and Fenton. Same with Fethry. I’ve seen Ludwig brought up since him and Gyro are both scientists and that would also be great, but I’m not sure how that would work out. I know Ludwig could be alive but I feel like he’s much more connected to the Scrooge and Beakley FOWL arc than to Gyro. There’s also Bradford and the other FOWL agents we’ve met so far. However, like Ludwig, I feel like they’re already all accounted for. Bradford is Scrooge’s villain, Steelbeak is likely a Darkwing villain, Rockerduck and Jeeves are also Scrooge villains (maybe Goldie or even Glomgold) and Black Heron is a Beakley villain. The only one not accounted for so far is Phantom Blot, but I find it more likely that he’ll be paired with someone like Duckworth (given the whole “blot out phantoms” thing Frank talked about) or even Goofy, which I see as the most likely for him but that’s another theory post to be made.

Then who is it?

Unfortunately, many won’t really like the answer I’ve come up with and I’m concerned about it too as this post will explain but it seems to be the most likely. Gyro will probably interact with Mark Beaks the most in season 3. Out of all the characters, he’s the only one that fits everything. He’s had ties to Gyro before but not enough for the answer to not be a spoiler, it wouldn’t be super out of left field for them to have a lot of interaction and Mark doesn’t really have any prior commitments that aren’t tied to Gyro. There’s Fenton, sure, but Frank said he interacts with Darkwing and Gandra the most so it almost seems like Mark’s taking a backburner when it comes to him (thank god honestly).

Upon this realization, I began to reflect on something Frank said a while back that we haven’t really seen a lot of.

Of course, Mark is a Gizmoduck villain. But why was Gyro specified here? I wouldn’t call Mark a Gyro villain at this point in the show, yet it seems to be implied that he’s just as much of a villain to Gyro as he is to Gizmoduck. Then I started wondering if this might refer to stuff we haven’t seen yet.

Something Frank said in the #RewriteHistory thread kind of points toward this as well. He called Mark’s rivalry with Fenton a “happy accident,” meaning that it wasn’t something that was planned initially and that he’d expand on that later.

The thread hasn’t gotten to Dangerous Chemistry yet, but there hasn’t even been anything of the sort about how that happened in the rundowns for BUDDY System and Who Is Gizmoduck so I honestly believe the “later” here means after season 3 or at least certain episodes. In that case, if Mark wasn’t meant to be a Gizmoduck villain, then why was he created in the first place? He’s 100% a Ducktales original and doesn’t really serve much of a purpose right now outside of his rivalry with Gizmoduck. Therefore, I believe he was initially created to rival Gyro.

Also, Mark has been tied to Gyro in some pretty interesting ways. There was the part in Glomtales, while I know it was mostly a joke, where he was eager to fight Gyro. And it really wouldn’t have been that hard to have them interact in the episode. So why wasn’t Gyro there? Could it be building up to more? It’s also worth noting that Mark’s technology only works when it’s linked up to something Gyro created. We saw this with BUDDY, the thing he put on the Gizmoduck suit, his app for hacking Gyro’s security system and possibly even Boyd which Frank said would also be explored in season 3. Of course, this could be from the stolen blueprints he got from the message board but I think it’s still worth noting.

So, how do they interact in season 3? That’s what I’m here to explain.

Gyro’s Treatment of Fenton

One big thing that Frank has hinted at being explained in the future is why Gyro treats Fenton the way he does.

This hasn’t been explored at all but seeing that Gyro is getting focus this season, I think it’s finally time. I’ve always wondered exactly what his problems with Fenton were because there seems to be a lot more there than just annoyance. For starters, Gyro is very sensitive to having his information stolen or tampered with by anyone, especially Fenton. We see this a lot in BUDDY System and Who Is Gizmoduck when Fenton tries to use the Gizmoduck armor. He even wanted to destroy the Gizmoduck armor entirely, something he worked VERY hard on, just so it wouldn’t “fall into the wrong hands.” This is definitely a reaction based on experience.

Speaking of BUDDY System, he seems to have an idea that Mark is using his tech right off the bat. As soon as Dewey tells him that Mark made BUDDY, he reacts with a lot of rage and confusion. Fenton mentions that Gyro has been stressed trying to figure out how Mark beat him to the self-driving car. He also showed up to the presentation even though he wasn’t invited. Plus, Mark made that one cut-out of him. You know the one. These two are very familiar with each other.

Gyro also seems to dislike having an intern. This could be brushed off as him just not being a people person but paired with everything else, I think it’s worth noting. Putting this all together, it seems as if he had a bad experience with both having his technology stolen and having an assistant.

Remember FOWL Gyro?

Yeah, that one theory my friend @bluebiirdys​ came up with and I wrote out a long time ago that got insanely popular. I want to bring it up for a bit and talk about how it connects to this as well. If any of the season 1 villains have ties to FOWL, it’s Mark. His relationship with Gandra seemed very familiar. Although she doesn’t like him (who would?), their interactions really felt like they know each other past her using him for funding and resources. He also referred to her as “Agent D,” which feels like an inside name. And when Gandra claims she was only using him, she pauses beforehand and seems unsure of what she’s about to say. Seeing that she hid a lot of things from Fenton and made up other stuff in that scene, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she also hid how she knows Mark. Also, Mark wouldn’t have been able to hire an agent if he didn’t have some kind of ties to FOWL itself. They’re a super lowkey organization that I feel like a lot of people aren’t aware of.

While I don’t feel like Mark is really an agent in the same way that Gandra is, he definitely works for or alongside FOWL and probably has been doing so for a long time. There’s a big chance that they could be the reason why he’s so popular and maintains that despite literally everything awful he does. Frank even said he’s not still rich, so where is he getting the money to keep his company going? Waddle itself could be some kind of inside job but again, that feels like a theory for another day. This is about Gyro.

If Gyro worked for FOWL and Mark is currently working for FOWL, they could have very well known each other during his time there. Frank said that Gyro is younger than Donald and Della, who are both confirmed to be 36. If we’re going off of what’s presumed to be his birth year in Mark’s username, Mark would currently be 30. This means that Gyro is rather close to his age, maybe one or two years older. They very well could have known each other. And I can’t see Mark being that much older than Fenton. Therefore, they probably have about the same age difference.

This brings us to the main point of this post: I believe that Mark was Gyro’s assistant when he worked at FOWL and betrayed him during their time together. How does this work? Well, I have a small idea. Again, this does have a few holes in it that can’t be filled until we have a lot more information on season 3, but I’ve come up with a bare minimum.

I still feel like Gyro worked for FOWL pretty much his whole life. While he definitely had mentors there, it was never a very loving environment for him. Therefore, he’s been pretty starved for any kind of friendship and isolated. Similarly, Mark was probably a total loser at this age and also didn’t grow up in a good environment by what we’ve seen, including these asks.

Plus, we all know about the “Coach Dad” thing. If Mark’s home life was really that bad, I can see him running away at a young age, maybe around 18. He is a very impulsive person so this wouldn’t be out of character. Going off of what we know about Gandra, it seems that FOWL tries to recruit younger people with an interest in inventing who feel misunderstood. Mark is this to a T. He would definitely join FOWL in a heartbeat.

Since he would have been relatively young, he probably would have been assigned to help someone else. That someone could be slightly older by a year or two and a person who has worked there for a long time. Gyro would be the perfect fit. And going off of what we do know about Mark, I can imagine a younger and not-as-awful-yet version of him being similar to Fenton: overly talkative, into everything Gyro is doing, enthusiastic, etc. This could be where Gyro’s distaste of Fenton comes from.

Mark also shares some common ground with Gyro in a way that I can easily see them hitting it off. He’d be the first person Gyro would really have a chance to connect with, someone to share his work with and just talk to. On the other side, Gyro is the first person to give Mark his undivided attention and make him feel wanted. They would probably form a pretty closely knit friendship. Then, what happened? What would ruin such a bond? If you don’t know the answer already, it’s definitely Mark’s arrogance and need for attention.

His greatest downfall throughout the series has been how badly he needs attention from other people to thrive. Frank has even hinted that he’ll never be satisfied until he has some kind of place in the spotlight.

Therefore, Gyro had to make him feel lesser and divert his attention to something else. That something else could be a big project that he was assigned to work on. The more he works on this, the less time he has to spend with Mark who now considers him a very close friend. This makes Mark feel like he isn’t getting enough attention and in turn, he starts to secretly resent Gyro and realize that he has a much higher status than him at FOWL. He will start to long to move up in rank more than he will long for Gyro’s attention. Like Frank said, nothing can fill his needs for long and he always wants more.

So what would Gyro be working on during this? Well, FOWL does seem to have some pretty sinister plans for this season. It’s likely they could have assigned Gyro to make some sort of doomsday device that would cause destruction so large and awful, that a big part of Duckburg or even the planet would be destroyed. I’m not sure if it’s related but see my very small and poorly put-together Chaos God theory. It could be something to do with that, but for now we’ll just refer to it as the “doomsday device.”

Gyro doesn’t really know exactly what he’s making or at least doesn’t understand the consequences of it fully until one day when he overhears the higher-ups discussing something about it. This terrifies him and really makes him realize what’s going to happen if he finishes building this thing. In a panic, Gyro will decide to defect from FOWL. He wants to run away and leave no trace of himself there and make his own life somewhere else, finding a mundane inventing job that won’t have him invent something that could wipe out the entire world. However, he’s not going to leave his close friend behind. Gyro confides in Mark about everything he knows as well as his plans, wanting him to go with him. Mark agrees that they’ll leave in a few days and everything seems as okay as it can be…that is, until Gyro wakes up the next morning to find that Mark ratted his plans out to the higher-ups because he knew it would get him Gyro’s status in FOWL since he’s his assistant.

Devastated and hurt and in so much danger, Gyro manages to run away on his own and escape. He also manages to take a vital part of the machine that he created with him, hoping that it will stop them from going forth with whatever destruction they planned to cause. After fleeing, Gyro finds Scrooge, gets hired by him, everything goes as normal. But he always has that one part of the machine hidden away somewhere in his lab and wonders if anyone will ever try to steal it. He starts to get suspicious when he sees how popular Mark is becoming, yet knows he can’t say anything to anyone or else it’ll be known that he created this awful thing. Gyro lives in fear of Mark telling everyone too, especially since he has such a high following or worse, coming after the part of the machine that he took with him. But for now, he’s safe…

Nah. Of course he isn’t. That machine’s definitely gonna come back in season 3 if all of this is true, let’s be real. Frank called the Gyro episode in season 3 massive.

That means it’s going to affect more than just Gyro. So how?

Let’s go back for a bit to Dangerous Chemistry. There’s a big part of it that remains vague to this day: what exactly were Gandra and Mark planning to do? MegaBeaks wasn’t supposed to happen. Mark was only supposed to get a little jacked but even then, he wouldn’t have been able to have that much power over Fenton. Plus, Gandra was pissed when he hulked out, tried to kill Fenton and ran away with the kids yet she still seemed determine to let him get away, shocking Gizmoduck so he could continue as if it were part of the plan all along. She also got rid of Gyro. Funny how he was unconscious throughout the entire episode, as if him being there and fully aware of what was going on would have caused a plot hole. As mentioned in the Gyro FOWL theory post, he seemed to know what was going on too but couldn’t outright say so without telling people his secret.

My main confusion comes from what Gandra says while shocking MegaBeaks near the end of the episode about how hurting Fenton wasn’t part of their plan. If they wanted to steal the Gizmoduck suit, then wouldn’t they have to hurt Fenton? How could they have possibly gotten away with it without doing that? When you really look at it, the plan doesn’t seem to be about Gizmoduck at all. Instead, Gandra wanted to distract Gizmoduck, not hurt him. Mark just got power hungry and basically ruined everything.

Then what was the plan? Well, another thing worth noting is that Gandra knew the lab she was going to. If she knew Mark and his information on Fenton, she knew it wasn’t his lab but Gyro’s instead. She also wanted Fenton to show her everything in the lab and kept urging him to show her his work. It really seemed like she was looking for something and trying to get as much information about where that thing was until her and Mark were able to get both Gyro and Fenton out of the picture. There was also the moment where she peaked under the lampshade to get a look at Lil Bulb, which was very cute but also more proof of her checking out every inch of Gyro’s lab and technology.

Gandra was there for something but we don’t know what. It could very well be the part of the machine that Gyro created while he was at FOWL. They’re planning to reactivate it in order to stop the McDuck family once and for all. They just need that one piece. As Frank said, Bradford has been plotting for a long time and now, he’s finally going into action to put together his final plan.

So…will they get it?

This is very up in the air but I will give you my two cents. Since Frank described the Gyro episode as massive, I’m expecting something related to the overall plot in it as well as his backstory. The plot of season 3 is definitely related to FOWL, as well all know. Therefore, I think they’re going to get the piece he has back in that episode, completing all they need to activate the machine. But…how?

Let’s go back to how Gyro treats Fenton. Assuming that he does this because he reminds him of his past experiences with Mark, it’s clear that Gyro feels guilt over what happened. He probably feels like he failed Mark despite everything and part of him wants to reach out again. It’s really hard to watch your first friend turn into such an awful person and Gyro knows more about Mark than literally anyone else, probably some pretty upsetting stuff that makes him want to fix everything he thinks he caused.

That being said, Mark is very good at manipulation. Let’s say Gyro had a chance to reach out to his old assistant, someone he feels like he’s wronged, one more time and let him know how wonderful it feels to be free of FOWL and to have a family and make him understand that he’s being used, bound to face the same consequences as the ones FOWL are against once they’re done with their plans. For a second, it looks like Mark is listening to him…but he’s not going to change. He’s way too far gone and it’s not Gyro’s fault at all. But I don’t think Gyro will ever realize this until the part of the machine is in Mark’s hands. I wouldn’t be surprised if he used him one last time to get what he needed for what he sees as positive attention.

Wow, this got long. Anyway, that’s about all I have so far. I’m sure I’ll think of a lot of other stuff before season 3 actually airs and if I have another realization, I’ll probably add onto this. But this is enough. I hope you all enjoyed reading this (if anyone even did LOL) and have it be known that this will be all I’m able to think about until the hiatus ends.

DuckTales- Timephoon-Moonvasion Recap

Time breaks during a storm, Glomgold makes his own family, a monster hunts the richest duck in the world, and the invasion comes. Spoilers below.

Timephoon

Louie tries to steal lost treasures from the exact moment they disappeared so he doesn’t hurt the timeline. Spoilers he does. By stealing treasures he breaks time, bring past figures into the present.

Beakley is trying to teach Della with how to be a Mom. She thinks Della is being too lenient. Della thinks their good kids who does dumb things. And Beakley agrees but says that dumb things can become bad things if the kids don’t learn. This is also the first time we Della without her pilot hat. She looks cute.

I also love how Scrooge and Beakley jus know it was one of the kids

A ninja appears with the other time displaced people. I only bring this up as I am amused as the obscure Naruto stuff like hand signs and replacing themselves with logs.

The big selling point of this episode was the appearance of Bubba. He was a widely unpopular character from the original DuckTales who had a big five partner but never did much after that. He doesn’t do much here, other than to give Dewey and Huey something to do. The joke is that he does something modern and Huey freaks out because caveducks don’t work that way. It kept to a minimum enough that the joke doesn’t get old, but I’m not in a hurry to see him again.

Everyone figures out that it’s Louie and after the problem is solved, Della grounds him. After all she knows that stealing and using technology that you don’t fully understand can destroy their family. The grounding is awkward and uncomfortable and it needed to be. It’s really interesting to see Louie and della call other out like that.

GlomTales

Glomgold recruits other villains to his family in a dark on the nose mirror to the McDuck family. I love everything about this. Ma Beagle is Beakley, her sons are the triplets, Don Karnage is Launchpad, Mark Beaks is Gyro, who they don’t even find which Beaks complains about, and Magica gets tobe Webby.

Magica has been reduced to working as a children's magician at Funzo’s. It might be the best scene in the whole series.

They attack the mansion which is almost empty since Scrooge and gang are out on another adventure, except for Louie who is still grounded. Louie agrees to take them to Scrooge and help them win the bet if Golgold makes him a partner.

He agrees and Louie has the villains give Glomgold their own fortunes which just pushes him past Scrooge’s. Thus winning the bet. But he signed the contract as Flintheart Glomgold, not his real name. So all the money goes to his partner, Louie.  He and Della reconcile while Scrooge asks for his company back. Louie thinks about it.

The Richest Duck in The World!

Louie decides to keep the money and the company for himself. Scrooge isn’t worried as he figures running a multinational company will be too much for Louie before too long. But Louie keeps spending company money on stupid stuff much to the annoyance of Owlson and the board of directors. They get Louie to cut magical defenses budget, which unlesses the Bombie.

Bombie is a character I did not expect to see. He’s from Scrooge’s third appearance but in the late 40’s. In the comics, it’s a zombie made by a African VooDoo wizard to get back at Scrooge for destroying his village. The Bombie design was a super racist too by the way. No way that would fly away. He’s been redesign was more of a Frankenstian creature. He’s back story has been changed so that he just hunts the richest duck in the world. Which is now Louie.

The nonsense causes Owlson to turn in her two week notice so she can train her replacement. After a lengthy battle a fearful Louie admits that he shouldn’t be the richest duck in the world. This breaks the curse.

A great episode, with a strong emotional climax. 4/4

Moonvasion

I don’t know how this show keeps toping itself but it does. This might be the greatest episode yet. Lunaris makes his move and Scrooge is on the defenses. Della takes the kids away, save for Lena and Violet who help with the battle. I don’t know why it’s okay for them to fight, but Lunaris is targeting the triplets and Webby directly.

I do wish Darkwing Duck did more than serve as a distraction tough.

Della and the kids crash on an island were Donald been living with a melon Mikey. Louie and Della have a good talk about dealing with things going wrong. Meanwhile Scrooge teams with Glomgold to scam the aliens by dressing up as Santa Claus. I was worried that after the bet storyline wrapped up, the alien invasion finale would feel tacked on. But thes how does an amazing job of pulling the theme of the plot.

I can not get over how funny this episode was. After the invasion was thurted the board of directors are sick of Scrooge’s family almost causing the end of the world. How can they steal from people! It turns out they’re head of F.O.W.L.

The call upon Gandra (I thought her working for Beaks was hypocritical), Steelbeak (F.OW.L’s main agent of the old Darkwing Duck show), the Funzo mascot who might be the Phantom Blot (A villain from the old back and white Mickey cartoons), Black Heron, and a frozen Rockerduck. It’s time to take down Scrooge.

An amazing end to an amazing season.

Now that we're on this hiatus, do you mind telling us what you thought of each episode?

Okay, I know I’m super late to answer this but here I am! I’m not gonna go too in depth on them, but I do want to talk about them.

Treasure of the Found Lamp!

This one was amusing, and I absolutely love what they did with Djinn. I’m so so so glad they changed his name, too, as “Dijon” always bothered me, even as a kid. Also, the story of the lamp was very heartwarming! And seeing Selene again was fun, especially as she had to run around and we find out she’s a terrible liar lol (so she definitely had nothing to do with Della’s disappearance, I think we can all finally put that theory to rest).

The wild goose chase aspect was funny, coming from both sides, and I still think the actress on Ma Beagle’s TV looked vaguely like a character from PKNA so. But Djinn did not pull punches and them Beagles at least got hurt XD

Also. It kinda has a “the greatest treasure is family” vibe to it.

The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!

As someone who loves Scrooge and loves Goldie, but is indifferent to Scroldie… I still loved this episode. It was great! It was also absolutely hilarious. And Gyro’s time traveling was amazing. Especially Scrooge’s sudden moment of realization when Gyro returned lol.

Louie’s gonna befriend Goldie! That makes me excited. I bet they’re gonna teach each other things that we haven’t even thought of (ie Louie values his family, while Goldie doesn’t even have a family. Maybe Goldie will officially join the Duck-McDuck family not through her strange but obviously antagonistically-romantic relationship with Scrooge, but through her friendship with and tutelage of Louie? Maybe he’s the one who shows her the importance of family and offers her a place in their family… it doesn’t mean giving up adventure, it just means always having somewhere she can call home, and people she can trust and rely on!).

I’m iffy about Jeeves’ redesign, and also his somewhat betrayal of Rockerduck, but I’ve never been like a hardcore fan of the two of them so it was easy for me to move on. I am curious, though, just how they’re gonna come back… guess Gyro’s not quite done with time travel shenanigans.

The only real gripe I have is Sheriff Marshal Cabrera. DON’T GET ME WRONG, I absolutely loved him. He’s a beautiful babby boy. But at the same time, he’s literally just. Fenton. I know he’s like. Fenton’s great grandfather (or maybe uncle, idk) or something. There should absolutely be similarities yes, but it felt like someone had taken the characters and placed them in an old west setting. That being said, I do love him, I just wish he’d been slightly more his own character. Like, maybe a little more like a mix of M’Ma and Fenton! Idk.

The 87 Cent Solution!

…….. You really want to know?

Okay, the episode was good. It was funny, and I enjoyed seeing Glomgold’s timestop shenanigans.

But the funeral scene? That wasn’t cool. I saw the “not really dead” twist coming, I think we all did, but no one thought to tell Donald? Donald thought that, so soon after finally making amends with his uncle, he had lost him for good.

And I get it. It’s meant to be a gag. It’s supposed to be funny. But it kinda really soured the rest of the episode for me. I hate to say that too, because it was a good and funny episode… I just… I can’t believe they did that to Donald. :(

The Golden Spear!

AGONY. Agony is how I feel about this one. Della made friends with the Lunarians! Actual friends! And then Penny made a bad choice, and Lunaris… damn you, Lunaris, you traitor.

All the things Della listed off, wanting to do with her kids and brother and uncle… they’re things the others have already done without her. That hit me in the feels.

AND THEN DONALD- AGH, I CAN’T EVEN. Poor Donald. He’s so stressed and his family loves him so much and just wanted him to have some peace. But alas, it was not to be. And now the fandom cries.

… Even if he really shouldn’t have climbed into that rocket but y’know. He didn’t MEAN to press buttons….

Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!

Della reunites with her boys and no one realizes Donald is gone. And we see Della trying to be a mom, and kinda failing miserably. But she’s trying, and she’s learning!

ALSO THEIR WOULD-BE NAMES HFBVSHKFCS

It really put to rest one of my biggest fears, that all of the triplets would accept her immediately (Louie showed serious hesitation through the entire episode, definitely coming from his place of insecurity that Dewey and Huey don’t share) and she’d be super-mom. She makes mistakes, and it’s acknowledged that she seems to be trying to be one of them rather than be their mother. It does feel awkward at times, and alien, like the boys are trying so hard to think she’s doing great when she’s really causing harm, but in the end when it comes down to it she’d do anything to protect them, and gives them the choice of letting her into their life. She doesn’t try and force her way in (as she kinda did at first, but came to realize this isn’t easy for them either).

Right now she feels kinda more like a cool aunt than a mom, but she’ll learn.

Raiders of the Doomsday Vault!

IS LUDWIG’S CONSCIOUS TRAPPED IN THE VAULT?! HE REACTED TO AND INTERACTED WITH THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE.

Anyway Scrooge and Glomgold’s parts were absolutely A+ hilarious. Della and Dewey bonding, they’re so much alike, but we see Dewey’s insecurity flare up- how he wants to impress Della, feeling like he has to earn her love. Even though she’s already loved them for ten years, even without ever knowing what they looked like.

Della has a moment of realization here, too. She looks down and realizes Dewey is in a dangerous situation. She realizes that Dewey is in danger. She questions if they’re doing something crazy, clearly thinking maybe we shouldn’t be doing this, but when Dewey quotes her “I’m your son, I can do anything!” she instead chooses to encourage him, not wanting to discourage him and possibly cause him to fall.

And then of course, her “exit strategy” thing. I honestly kinda feel like it’s a bit of an ass pull, but it at least makes a little sense. When you’re being hunted by a monster on the moon, you always want to have an escape route planned. Scrooge sees that, even if she’s the same ol’ Della she was before, she’s still changed. Ten years still changes you.

Friendship Hates Magic!

New Girl! New Girl! Violet’s pretty cool. At first she comes off as one of those “um, actually” people, but since I’m one of those “um, actually” people it’s pretty whatever to me lol. And Lena’s back! I’m super excited about that.

Lena gets a little jealous-possessive but who can blame her, Webby’s one of the few people who have always believed in her. And Webby spent so much time we never knew about trying to find ways to bring Lena back, to the point that it’s like clockwork.

The whole “being tormented by her own mind” thing was actually frightening in a way, and I’m just glad it all turned out alright. And now Webby isn’t just a fourth triplet, she’s the central member of her own trio. It’s great!

The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!

Admittedly another plotline to be seen from far away. A good episode full of secondhand embarrassment, but dang Huey’s LUNGS.

I love Gandra’s design and personality. It’s pretty durn great. I love it! I just have one gripe. Warning, this is a bit of a rant.

Why can’t we let characters be feminine? By this I mean traditionally feminine. Dresses, makeup, shopping, high heels, giggling, soft and compassion and gentle and things I’m not, pinks and lilacs, etc. Yes, Webby’s favourite colour is pink and she likes glitter and wears skirts, she is pretty feminine. But she’s the only one, besides Roxanne Featherby (Featherly? I don’t remember, and that’s only arguably because of her clothes), to be even slightly feminine, and even then it can be argued she’s not all that traditionally feminine because, well… she’s the bruiser of the group. Which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with! A feminine bruiser absolutely works, and I love it, but looking at it from certain angles…

Most of the (non-villain) females, besides Webby, show next to no traditionally feminine qualities- Goldie is the closest, when she dresses up for special events or for schemes. Which I don’t mind, per se, I don’t have many traditionally feminine qualities either, but you’d think at least a few would. The original Gandra Dee, who I am glad they changed mind you, was very feminine; she wore her hair long, wore dresses, enjoyed makeup and manicures, etc. She was traditionally feminine, AND smart. (even if I never liked how they drew her face (the eyes and beak look weird imho, DT17 pulled it off better), and I felt like she left much to be desired *cough*…)

There is nothing wrong with having traditionally feminine characters. There is nothing wrong with having characters who enjoy dressing up, or putting on makeup, or shopping, etc. The problem with traditionally feminine characters comes in when it’s done for sex appeal, or you have a woman running from dinosaurs in 6 inch heels (yeah I’m calling that out) or there’s a feminine character there only to be dragged on by the others for their feminine characteristics.

Anyway, rant about that over. I still love what they did with Gandra, but I’m just noticing this trend where female characters aren’t being allowed to like traditionally feminine things. Yeah, there are absolutely a lot of girls who don’t, but there’s probably an equal amount who do! And there’s nothing wrong with showing a competent, traditionally feminine character. :/

Okay, Launchpad is a sweetheart and let’s be honest, we knew the moment we saw him that the other guy at the signing was Drake Mallard.

I love that they kept the “Darkwing Duck inspires Drake Mallard to become Darkwing Duck” aspect of DW’s origin story, while twisting it around so that time travel and paradoxes don’t occur. Also! We still get Jim Cummings as Negaduck, while also getting a new VA for Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck- someone who does a pretty good job at sounding like them, too. So now Negaduck, who is no longer Darkwing/Drake Mallard from an alternate universe, has his own distinguishable voice!

… And I still think Negs is gonna have an unhealthy obsession with Launchpad, thanks to the “my fan” comment. I figure that’s how we’ll get Nega Launchpad, but who knows! There’s so many possibilities!
