#gay characters written with a straight audience in mind are a thing im not denying that#like 95% of one-off queer storylines in the early 2000s were just#''hello i am a gay. i have just enough personality to pass as human in the eyes of the audience.#now let me explain why you should treat me like a person''#but my god have people taken this phrase and run all the way into hell with it#if i see one more person saying heartstopper is for straight people im gonna start biting throats out#it was created by a queer person first of all#and second of all they did not write an entire subplot about there being no age limit on discovering who you are#for STRAIGHT PEOPLE#that wasn't for them!! it was for all the people in their 30s who watched the first season#and cried their eyes out because they were seeing all the things they never got to have#im so tired yall#i stg any queer media that's even remotely lighthearted or optimistic#is immediately called ''sanitized'' or rejected as some fantasy aimed at straight ppl who dont want to deal with harsh realities#when that just isnt fair at all#also side note the post i saw that prompted me to make this also put ''pretty much all queer media made in asia'' on the list#of queer media for straights#which. feels racist.#i really dont have much of a frame of reference for queer anime/kdramas/cdramas etc. but the generalization feels sketchy#idk man i feel like there's a certain segment of the community who will just say anything they dont like is not For Us#like just because it isn't for YOU doesnt meant no one in the community can relate to/enjoy it ffs

disclaimer: these are all romain molina's claims. none of them are mine. romain is an investigative journalist who focuses on exposing corruption, abuse, etc. within the football world. i'm just sharing what he has said over the past few years. some of these claims might sound crazy, but not unbelievable, unfortunately.
trigger warning: his claims mention topics such as rape, abuse, pedophilia, etc. so if those are topics you're not comfortable reading about, please don't continue reading.
one particular topic romain molina has been repeatedly speaking about is the pedophilia and trafficking ring(s) within the football world, involving many (as molina said over half of the) federations, including the spanish federation and the french federation, but also in south & north america, asia, africa. what is happening within these federations is actively being covered up and romain claims that even the french government is involved in the shit happening within the french football federation.
here's a list of a few claims romain molina has made:
more than 400 international players from the premier league, championship, ligue 1 and ligue 2 have been raped multiple times during their youth. some of them had anal injuries and diseases as a result and would go to specialised clinics to be treated. this has been going on for at least two decades.
an international coach was caught raping two 13 year old girls in the middle of an international tournament. his employer covered everything up for him, but still fired him in 2017. romain molina later went on to say that this story was also covered up by a footballer who many idolise and would use as their profile pic on twitter.
a ligue 1 club covered up a pedophilia case, that took place in their training centre. the (foreign) victim was later sent back to his country of origin.
victims of abuse and people who knew about this cannot speak up without facing major consequences. a human rights lawyer who was in the space romain hosted also stated how dangerous it is for the victims to talk about the abuse they have suffered.
an ex-member of the french federation said the following: "when something happens, we keep quiet. they have too much power. the second you speak, it's over."
the ex-director of the french federation said: "at the FFF, everyone talks to everyone. they are all aware of these affairs but they are very quickly buried. it's a policy of silence. they are like ostriches: head in the sand. if you speak, you are eliminated."
didier deschamps apparently claimed he had no idea about the cases of abuse within the french federation, while he was in contact with several people involved these abuse cases and knew about everything happening, but kept quiet for financial reasons.
a lot of molina's work focuses on african football. he has shared stories of female players forced to get abortions (one even died as a result), luring children to their homes, giving children blowjobs and keeping their sperm in jars to perform rituals, academies ran by pedophiles. crazy stuff.
some claims he made unrelated to the pedophilia and trafficking rings:
a current (this was back in 2021, idk if he's still a current player) french international player would organise parties where he would shit in women's mouths and film himself doing it. he forced a girl to participate, who later on issued a formal complaint. molina was also sent a video.
apparently helium balloons are very popular at arsenal and there's a player who even threw a "nitrous oxide balloons"-themed birthday party.
generally, a lot of players smoke shisha. there was a time psg players would bring their shisha/hookah with them on away games. one of the players who would regularly smoke shisha is blaise matuidi.
a few notes:
these are just a few of his claims summarised. if you want more details i would have to deep dive into his work more. romain has written several books and has been doing investigative work for longer than a decade now.
this space was insane, i think there were about 80k listening, even clubs' official twitter accounts were tuning in. the rock was in the space at one point as well 😭 i can't remember who else tuned in as it's been 2/3 years already
these claims simply show how rotten football institutions are and how it isn't surprising that footballers with rape/abuse charges don't have their careers ruined, when the people in charge are doing the same things and even worse.

Who do you think would have the best food if they only cooked by their own indigenous resources (spices, veggies, fruits, etc)?
(Also sorry if there's a mistake, it's almost 5am and I can't sleep)
Sorry but I can't really answer that question because for one, I don't know that much about the geographic origin of spices. Second, my palate is the result of over 500 years of columbian exchange. Most modern cuisines whether North American, Latin American, Asian, European, or African are the result of that exchange. In addition the modern world makes it so that any food or spice is easily available in the grocery store or with the click of a mouse. Even way back in the Roman era there were dishes where the Romans used food and spices from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
As a result I can't judge any culture's or geographic region's food by that parameter because I can't even comprehend what that would be like. For example, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai foods are some of my favorite cuisines. What would they be like without chili peppers which is a new world spice? IDK. I would have to do a lot of research and experimental archaeology to find out. Something I don't have the time and energy to do.

IDK if it has a name or if anyone else plays this but... Whenever my brothers and I are bored we play this game where we list things, most commonly places, that start with certain letters. Like, we start at A and go in turns "Athens" "Asia" "Alabama" etc. and the first person who can't think of a place that starts with that letter loses the round. So we go to B, "Bahamas" "Bangladesh" "Baltimore" and just keep going down the alphabet.
This is a really fun game to play because every round starts easy and then gets unexpectedly tense, especially if you set a time limit. Your brain will start to overlook really obvious answers too. And again you can do it with any category (we also like doing weapons and celebrities and stuff like that)
Highly recommended time killer.

also maybe im wrong and way off abt this but in my experience a very clear example on western chauvinism is evident in fantasy series depicting "other" cultures. its always inspired by that culture, and rarely actually takes place in it. notice how its always fantasy in an "asian inspired" or rarely "african inspired" fantasy, and barely is a fantasy setting in asia or africa. and its done to "white" cultures too, esp eastern europeans, and i actually think eastern europeans r a really good example of that. medieval western europe used to be the go-to setting for fantasy stories, right, but now the "foreign" fantasy is on the rise, esp slavic fantasy. and its different when andrzej sapokowski wrote the witcher or when naomi novik wrote uprooted, bc theyre themselves polish/of polish descent (and esp naomi novik who is jewish and imo a fantasy setting is a v freeing way for jews to explore history thru literature, but thats my onion and also another post). i think its different bc i dont think naomi novik wrote uprooted in a fantasy setting inspired by poland bc it didnt interest her to write/read a story set in poland. but i think a lot of these books/shows/etc. r only able to gain popularity bc western audiences want to explore/read about a "different" culture without directly engaging with that culture and its history, but rather with bits and pieces that are comfortable to them that were chosen from those cultures, mostly created by white westerners that aren't from those cultures. and im not saying this as inherently against fantasy settings inspired by nonwestern cultures (im writing one too) but like, how many of these stories actually showcase ideas that are uncomfortable to the western audience (notice how many things the witcher show changed to appeal to mainstream western audiences)? how many of those stories show morality and ways of thinking that are unfamiliar to a mainstream western audience? how many fans would atla have if instead of saying 'what if these magical people were inspired by asian people' they grounded it in asia and asian people and cultures, and said 'what if asian people were magic'? how many western writers dying to write the next witcher actually want to read a story based in medieval poland? idk. maybe im way off, but thats just my take.

BUG OF THE DAY TIME 🙀
todays bug is....
the orchid mantis (hymenopus coronatus) !!
Tumblr media
so pretty ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ
they live in the rainforests of southeast asia !!
⮕ cambodia, indonesia, malaysia, laos, thailand, etc 😋
the females can be up to double the size of the males (・o・)
Tumblr media
idk why that photos so low quality ignore that..
the mantis has colors and limbs that look like the pink orchid flower, meaning they can blend in with them to hunt !!
⮕ mantises sit in clusters of the flowers, blending in as small insects and flies land on it. the mantis then seizes and eats the insects ⟵(o_O)
theyre carnivorous, so they eat a lot of other smaller bugs 😋
⮕ their diet consists mainly of flies, crickets, fruit flies, bees, and even miniature wasps !
⮕ their diet is also pretty much the same in and out of captivity, and i think thats pretty cool (◕ᴗ◕✿)
Tumblr media
thx for coming to todays bug post
i might post some art l8r so keep ur eyes out 4 that !!

As an ace person it's kind of a comforting ship because it's not overly physical/sexual.
(the whole show is squeaky clean cause of guidelines but we ball)
I'm thinking and I don't think I've seen any sort of oversexualization of Buddie.
(Unless you're looking for it 👹)
But for real before this season (and subsequently bi buck) their relationship could've qualified as queer platonic if you do wish to see it that way.
I do not. I am ace not aro. I yearn to see the married couples! Demi life forever!
Cause I'm demi I love a good friend to lovers so in this case (very very rare I may have seen it okay out in a few gay shows from Asia like veryy few) it's like finding hold honestly.
But I dunno it's not often that you can get a queer (romantic!) relationship (especially with two men) that's not over sexualized but rather based/celebrated in their friendship.
Most same sex relationships in TV are portrayed as friends and idk I'd like to see more friends to lovers with same sex pairings.
It's be interesting and fresh because there's always that line of there's no way.
But I think its be cool to explore sexuality as a spectrum and also push the boundaries a bit of what a family could look like and finding (romantic!) love in a gender you didn't expect.
Even having unlabeled or queer identities on TV normalized could mean a lot in taking the pressure off having rigid gender roles in relationships in real life.
I think more freedom in expression is needed across all boards. Gender, religions, sexual identity etc.
Idk I'm just rambling.
Go for buddie canon season 999! They'll get it.
Eventually😮‍💨

do you think that iran should be preventively bombed or invaded before they destabilise the region completely?
Hi Nonnie!
I'm going to be real with you, I am not qualified to answer that question. IDK whether the best course of action to stop the Islamist regime in Iran, is by diplomatic, financial, or military means. I would hope the first two could be enough, but I recognize that sometimes, life just isn't that simple, especially when you're dealing with a regime that doesn't care whether its people suffer (as we've seen while this regime has been killing its own people). I don't have all of the data, and professional knowledge and experience, to say with certainty what's the best way forward.
All I know is two things. One is that Iran is hellbent on spreading violent Islamism throughout the world, not just the region. Just look at all of these terrorist groups it's building up: it is financing Hamas in Gaza, Hamas in other parts of the historical Land of Israel, Hamas in Lebanon, Hamas in Syria, Hamas' terrorist actions in Europe, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hezbollah in collaboration with other terrorist groups (some in South East Asia), Hezbollah in South America (never forgetting the horrific terrorist attacks in Argentina, first on the Israeli embassy, then in 1994 on the Jewish community center AMIA, killing no less than 85 people), the Houthis in Yemen (posing a direct threat both to Israel AND global economy), etc. I hope I managed to make my point!
The other is that Iran is also constantly developing and improving its rockets and their range (this isn't about Israel... Iran rockets have reached the stage where they can cover all of Israel quite a while ago, and yet Iran keeps going), and working towards getting a nuclear bomb. If the Islamist Iranian regime gets there... we're ALL fucked.

4, 9, 18, & 19 for any of your fics you wish to answer with <3
Thank you so much for these questions!! I'll be answering most of these for High-Flying Birds 😁
4. If the fic required it, what did you research in order to write it?
I research my fics a lot, and a lot of the time it’s random little things like what a specific place looks like or if a specific type of plant is native to the region (especially for my patchilles fics, even though they take place in Greece and I AM Greek, you'd be surprised how many plants have been brought over from Northern european or Asian settlers or from the Americas, to the point where I wonder what even was there for the ancient Greeks other than like olive trees and grapevines LOL), but for High-Flying Birds specifically I've done soooo much research on so many different kinds of things. I honestly feel like it's one of my most heavily researched fics (maybe that's why it takes me so long to update.... among other reasons 😩). For the Aulis arc I've mentioned before how I went into a deep dive of Euripides' version of the Iphigenia myth, but I also researched the origins of the myth itself, the many different versions that exist and how it sort of morphed and changed as time went by, and how the context of the times shaped it. I loved reading about its evolution and all the tasty little nuances re: Achilles' and Odysseus' role in it, as well as how Iphigenia and Clytemnestra changed from being mostly passive to gaining more agency from retelling to retelling, and how other themes in the myth such as the destructive power of nationalism and populism gained momentum in later iterations. Like the elements are there in the original myth, but it's crazy how a slight change in the dialogue here and there can shift the tone of the play as a whole.
For the Troy chapters, I also researched a lot about the Trojans and the Troad in general both in myth and history, how the Greeks imagined them through Homer's works and all those other myths that sort of converged to create the Iliad, but also what actual, factual records exist about that region of Anatolia and how Bronze Age Greeks interacted with the people who lived there. It’s really fascinating to read and think about, especially since so many details about the Trojan culture that we know from the Iliad, which is a work of fiction, actually correspond to things we know to be true about them in real life, like the fact that they had a long tradition in textiles and weaving, or that they were renowned for their horse breeding, as well as the incredibly accurate description of the Troad and the surrounding islands. I researched a lot about the Hittite culture (Troy was a vassal state of the much bigger Hittite empire), what other settlements have been discovered around that area, what languages were spoken, what kind of things were produced there and what are thought to have been imported from other parts of Asia or Greece, etc etc. I also gave a lot of thought to how the raids would have worked and how the wealth was distributed in the first part of the war, and how that might have shifted once we get into Iliad timeline territory. In short, a lot more of my time is spent researching this fic rather than writing it I think 🤣 but that's just half the fun!
9. Did you get stuck at any point? How did you get past that?
I'm actually stuck right now 🫠 I haven't figured out how to fix it yet, but most of the time what I do to get unstuck is to read both the fic and the source material from the beginning, and usually by the time I reach the point where I'm stuck I sort of figure it out. It's what happened both when I was stuck after the end of the Skyros arc, and also the end of the Aulis arc (transitions are the worst....) But I've been too apprehensive to do it this time idk why LOL and it's driving me crazy. Like TSOA is my fave book ever, and the Iliad is my fave work ever, and here's lil old me trying to sort of fumble along and fill in those gaps and it's like... what if I make a complete mess of it all and it doesn't make sense and nobody likes it lmao ykwim??? I guess I'm a little intimidated by the scope of it, and we're also getting close to important character development moments in the story and I wonder if I can do it justice..... which is dumb and I hate it but what can you do!!! Brains just don't brain the way you want them sometimes
18. Talk about your editing and revision process
It really depends on the fic tbh, sometimes even by the chapter. Sometimes I can "see" the scene or chapter very clearly, so I just write it and then go back and give it a couple reads, tweak some sentences here and there and that's it. Others are much harder, and I need to push myself through absolutely frightful first drafts, then edit line by line or re-arrange paragraphs etc, and that takes a lot more time. I write everything in order so there isn't a lot of rearranging entire scenes, but I often have to like word-vomit my way through a particular troublesome scene so that means there's a lot more clean up involved during the editing process. Sometimes I hate editing and others I don't mind it, it really depends on my mood lol.
19. While editing, did you kill any darlings? What were they?
I honestly don't think I've ever had to kill a darling, maybe at the very beginning when I was writing HFB I had to delete some small scenes for pacing's sake, but when I revisited them some time later I absolutely hated what I was reading so it's good that I ended up killing them after all 😂 I've grown to be really ruthless when it comes to editing stuff out tbh, when something needs to go I just know it and I don't feel any sort of attachment to it. If there's a particular turn of phrase that I like that doesn't fit the current chapter or work, I just jot it down and use it for something else where it does fit, but that's about it.

What would your ideal book be like (as in, what theoretical book would be your absolute favourite) what genre, page count, setting, characters, etc would it have?
oohhhh this is such an interesting ask. hmm i'll have to lay this out in dot points
BE READY FOR LOTS OF TEXT!
also i am indecisive and messy so my opinions will probably change idk T-T
alr here we go
- genre: psychological novel? im not exactly sure what the genre is but i love when books follow a mentally ill character that's just trying their best to navigate through life, and the book is about the way they interact with their surrounds and respond to issues and cope with their past and come to decisions, iykwim?
BUT I WANT FANTASY in it too so it will be epic. i love fantasy world building and i love when it makes so so so much sense. it would be cool if they had elements and got sorted into elemental groups too- that is so satisfying and fun to read.
- page count: probably 500. personally i think a normal book is 300, and it seems daunting when it's got like 700 pagesz but considering that this is my ideal book, i think i'd be sad if it had less than 400 pages (cus the story would be over soon) so i'd say 500 pages is the perfect amount.
- setting: in terms of time, i never really cared for it. i realise that i should probably have a preference on which century i like to read, but i find that characters can be mentally ill and epic no matter if they are from the future or the past.
in terms of location, hmm i wouldn't want to read about a character being anywhere with tropical or summery vibes. i like my characters knee deep in snow and drenched from head to toe in rain. it keeps them depressed and relatable ^^ (/hj....?)
oh also it would be cool if the country and places were mad up, since that this is a fantasy.
WAIT OR asia. i am obsessed with books that focuses on/is based off asia :)
- characters: trios are the best and i will die on that hill. ok like i dont need the trios to be together 24/7 but i need there to be THREE main characters if you know what i mean. one of them can be an antihero idc. it just has to be THREE.
oh also i love to read in the perspective of characters who are ambitious and feisty and impulsive because they're the opposite of me. but also i'd like them (idc abt gender) to be cunning, witty and good at making plans.
another character that i need in the trio is the smart one. there HAS to be a smart side character or else i will NOT fall in love with the book. i need the character who makes all the entensive plans. i need the character who is a walking dictionary. i need the character who hates to fight and would rather be learning but is somehow good at it and therefore forced to fight alongside the makn character. (oopsies im just describing the poppy war. but that is not a crime ;])
if its a soldier poet king trio i will be obsessed with it forever and ever
ok so for the stuff that u didnt ask but im gonna include:
-writing style: advanced. work my mind to death but enrichen it at the same time. i dont mind a difficult and layered magic system- in fact i LOVE THOSE, as long as they make sense and they are creative. do not give me that "she let out a breath she didnt know she was holding" bs.
i want "the night circus" level description when it comes to settings. i need to see taste hear smell FEEL the fucking surroundings
-vibe: doomed from the start. i dont want my characters to be happy. make me fall in love and then break my heart and do not apologise for it :,) (shit am i masochistic? damn)
- others: it would be cool if it is somehow relevant to our present irl current political state/ real world problems. it would be even cooler if it somehow fits a ton of mitski songs. also gayness is very welcomed
yeahh thats all i got for now. oops i wrote alot. at the start of my reply i was thinking along the lines of solitaire and crime and punishment and no longer human, but then it was all scrapped and i based it all off of the poppy war trilogy because it did fantasy and character dynamics/personalities/backstories SO RIGHT.
tysmmm for this ask. i would love to ask it right back, but i dont know who you are :(( ahsvsj feel free to tell me anyways tho in my askbox as an anon !!
