#this whole story really emphasized Bruce as a scientist and as that being a position of superiority #not even necessarily just superiority over the Hulk but as a position in society #there’s even a scene where police try to restrain him and he yells at them ‘you can’t do this to me- I’m a scientist!’#of course the concept of Bruce’s life being more valuable because of what he can contribute as a scientist is nothing new #which I’ve been thinking about a bit lately #like that trial the Hulk had way back where it was argued that it would be wrong to kill the Hulk because that would also mean killing Bruce #and that would be such a loss to science #implying that it would be ok to kill Bruce for the Hulk’s crimes if he was someone that could contribute less?#and- for that matter- that the Hulk’s life is worth less than Bruce’s because he’s not as ‘intelligent’?#I think that these ideas are interesting within the story #I like the idea of Bruce as something with a sense of superiority #of Bruce as someone who thinks of himself as that he ‘exalts mankind’s conquest of savagery’#and- amidst all his other issues with the Hulk- as insecure over part of him being a ‘dumb beast’#but it can sometimes be frustrating to see those ideas presented uncritically within narration #(though I have already formed the habit of sometimes rejecting the framing the narration presents in Hulk comics- haha)#and then reproduced by fans #particularly the weird insecurity some Hulk fans have over the Savage Hulk alter being the most well-known one #and the emphasis they’ll give on how the Hulk is actually an interesting character capable of depth!#… because there are other alters with less limited vocabularies #like c’mon now #marvel #bruce banner #my posts #comic panels

It has come to my attention that some bronies think Hasbro has "lost the copyright" for the G4 setting or characters so I'm here to point out that makes zero sense.

Hasbro keeps a tight grip on characters from decades ago. Hasbro just made a Transformers toy of a freakin Go-Bot that they got the rights to in 1991 after acquiring Tonka.

I promise you Hasbro's lawyers did not approve of or overlook a paragraph giving away the rights to valuable franchise characters from just a few years ago.

As a frequent "ugh, fanon," person it's not that I don't like non-canonical character designs or interpretations as a concept. I love unique and creative ideas about fictional characters that are informed by canon but diverge from it in interesting ways that build upon the original vision! I almost never see this in fanon.

#this is about a bunch of things but rn i'm thinking about halfling tails...uninteresting repetitive pointless and in conflict with canon #more generally i get that fanworks are derivative by nature and that's the point but there's similar and there's The Same.#like. my beef with fanon is not ultimately one of HOW DARE YOU DEVIATE FROM THE HOLY WRIT #it's that it's often dull and poorly executed by people who are gathering around a single kind of stupid headcanon #there are many great individual headcanons out there but they almost never make it to fanon status #bc fanon is not a garden of many new interesting ideas. it's a single dirty pink flamingo haphazardly stabbed into the lawn.#99% of the time canon was better bc it wasn't passed through a committee that stripped it of anything interesting and made it reproducible #anyway follow for more musing on how i believe that while capitalism has DEFINITELY made art worse social media also has #most of my favorite creators end up being the ones who are either very offline or at least have very hard boundaries #and most of my favorite fan creators are involved in fandom but are also fanon (derogatory) people

idk i just feel like when fans write the uzumaki clan, they make them uchiha 2.0 while doing an absolute disservice to the clan theyre ripping off. maybe that's why im so resistant to all those "naruto explores his heritage" fics. well, that and all the fash undertones that are inherent to stories about the specialest little bootlicker boys in the world reclaiming their glorious inheritance, wealth, etc.

like if I think abt it for too long I do get frustrated at how vibrant rpf m/m sports communities are. In no means am I saying no men in these sports have ever been queer in any way but it is insaaane to look at the institutions upholding the most concentrated and idealised form of hegemonic masculinity (a masculinity that inherently disempowers and devalues women, feminine traits, and homosexuality) and say. Yknow what. I bet these men are fucking.

the part of my brain that lives in my senior anthropology seminar and never shuts up really really wants to sit down and spit out a meta analysis of the produce 101 "you look good" performance. like do some real discussion on how a) it was a pretty innovative commentary on the shady shit that this television show was putting these teenage/early-20s girls through, not just a commentary but like exposing the top layer of it right at the beginning of the four-season shitshow and b) genuinely sets up the "fear" stage in season 2 thus indirectly causing nu'est's unprecedented rise in popularity.
