Guess who made a P:EG OC
Tumblr media
I kind of just frankensteined a bunch of elements together after scalping Cara and using her as a base. She was already wearing the sweater I wanted so I was like “might as well”.
This is Fumiyo Toriyama, the Ultimate Author
Here is some extra info:
Talent: Ultimate Author
Gender: Female
Animal Motif: Ostrich
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 143 lbs
Age: 16
Date of Birth: June 25th
Likes: True Crime, Milkshakes
Dislikes: Sticklers, Formal Events
Her Ultimate Talent Story
(I’m not the best at wording so bare with me)
Fumiyo has always been obsessed with any kind of book she could get her hands on, eventually she decided, at the age of 10, to begin writing her own stories. They weren’t very good at first but the adults around her could tell she’d be a great writer one day, so she was pushed to keep going. She did keep going, however she refused to share what she wrote after she turned 13, this was because her writing had become mostly fan fiction At the age of 15, she was told about a writing competition being hosted by the former Ultimate Author, she decided to join. The theme was a story about romance. She’d spent many nights perfecting this story and when it came time to submit the final draft, she messed up. She accidentally submitted one of her fanfics to the competition, and that particular story was more…intimate than what the judges were expecting. She was mortified, she didn’t know what to do. By the time the results came out she was sure she wasn’t going to win anything, but she was wrong. She had won 1st place. The prize for first place was to get your story published, but she was already worried enough from accidentally submitting the wrong story. So she refused the prize. Unbeknownst to her, the former Ultimate Author published it without her permission, and this story became the best selling book of the year, so many bookstores were seeing an increase in profit after they stocked her story. Fumiyo was unaware of all this, she only figured it out when she got a letter in the mail telling her that the UTP wanted her to be the Ultimate Author. She accepted of course, but she refuses to tell the truth about the story she submitted to this day.
Animal Motif
I chose the Ostrich for Fumiyo, this is due to multiple reasons, but the main one is that the ostrich can symbolize foolishness in religious text, Fumiyo is a fool, not just because she’s your classic teenager, but because she remains unaware of things that stand even in front of her face. Although it is a myth, Ostriches are known for sticking their heads in the ground to avoid danger, which obviously would not work. This is similar to Fumiyo, you can see this in her ultimate talent story, she refuses to admit the truth about her story, but everyone knows it’s her story and it’s clear that’s how she got her talent, and even though people can see it, she’ll continue to ignore it and lie about it due to her own embarrassment.
That’s it I think, let me know what you think (and yes she is inspired by gyaru styles) 👍🏼

Oooh!! Brooklyn House Oc!! number 12!! :D Tell me! Thank you!!
oh thank you so much for asking, you're the sweetest!
Zariya Tashi, Trainee of the Brooklyn House, Path of Shu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Style/appearance staples:
gold-rimmed glasses that connect twice - once the bridge of the nose, and once a bit higher
quite a . bulbous nose
black gauges in her ears
dimples!
a scar on her right cheek
mostly wears her hair in twists (like in the first and last picrew) and golden little embellishments on them
really quite muscular. like, not clarisse-style, but definitely has visible muscles
usually at least two necklaces. a small chain necklace, and an amulet Walt made her on her first day in the house
loose, sporty t-shirts, often times with some sort of logo on them
nearly always in big sporty shorts, you know it's really cold outside when she pulls out the sweatpants
her clothing is mostly in white, yellow, black, and the occasional grey. the rest are very brightly coloured t-shirts won at like sports events or whatever
probably collects sneakers lol
Zariya joined the 21st Nome close to the beginning of the second book. She hails from Soda Springs, Idaho. She's a very easy-going kid, goes with the flow, very affable and good at talking to people. Make no mistake, though, she's very energetic, loves doing stuff.
(Also I literally don't know how many people know of frisbee outside of my social circle, so just to be sure, it's the one with two teams where they toss a disc around and try to get it to either of the furthest sides of the field. Lots of running and abrupt changes in who's offending and defending. I'm sure we're all sports people here.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zariya heard of the Brooklyn House through a friend of hers reading the first TKC book (they're canonically published in-universe lol), and she just thought, alright, cool, that's what I'm gonna do. Her parents are also just kinda chill (wonder where she got it from 🤔), told her "alright sweetie, call us often" and took her there.
Very quickly, she took to following the path of Shu, god of the wind. She grew up watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, and wanted to be like Aang 😁 Also, not so subtly, she wanted to gain an advantage in frisbee.
She's down for any fun, but it also makes her a bit unruly and what I can only describe as, at times, lacking principles. She won't do some things that are, like, obviously (read: have been framed thoroughly as such) bad, like being cruel to people or disobeying authority. But she also won't, like, actively look to help others; she doesn't view complacence as an action of itself. That's to say, she's just very chill, to the point of it being infuriating to some of the other inhabitants.
In academics, she's interested in biophysics (physics applied to biology, figuring out how organisms work from a physics-y point of view). Not to a degree that she'd go out of her way to read about it and reject hanging out with her friends (at least, not often), but when she has the time or the occasional urge to study something, she'll dig into it. It's actually something that a part of her friendship with Julian Teague (path of Horus), another one of the trainees. His interest lies in mostly computer architecture, and bits of maths and programming (he's like one of those guys who goes to programming competitions). They like to passionately discuss whatever new thing they're reading up at the moment and how it works and why it's cool lol. Nerding out together 🫶
Zariya and Julian (whom she calls "Jules" exclusively) have a nice friendship, where she's the more outgoing one, and he's a bit more introverted, yet they're good friends, and she makes him come out of his shell a bit more. Probably made him tag along to some of her frisbee tournaments a few times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When not working out or studying the human body, Zariya likes a good board game! She gets surprisingly strategic about them, but in a very not-noticeable way. She'll look she's just being goofy like normal, but when you ask her about something she did, she'll say a move that's actually pretty layered and clever like it's nothing.
Oh, playing charades (but this rly advanced style with symbols for stuff like "animal", "past tense" or "material") is also a popular pasttime in the Great Room, and Zariya is almost always present for it, if not the initiator.
She's genuinely such a sweetie when it comes to teaching people anything. She just loves to share things that she likes with people, and doesn't get angry at all if they don't get it. Like, it doesn't even occur to her. She's just looking for a better way to explain it, a different angle from which to approach things. It's visible in frisbee when she taught pretty much all the trainees how to play, and in her biophysics interests, when someone asks her about how something works (or she just goes on a tangent unprompted).
She just likes being around people! She makes jokes and listens to people well, even if she is a bit naive and doesn't always know the best thing to say. She's friendly and lots of the other trainees consider her a friend.
hmu if you have literally any other questions, i'll be happy to answer!

Shoot Your Shot: Part 1
This is my first published work in over a decade, and I'm so excited to share it with everyone! Dash is my oldest and most treasured oc, and I'm so happy that I finally have the confidence to allow everyone else a peek into her life. This was originally supposed to be a short one shot, but is now going to be a 2(?) part series. I will hopefully be posting more work in the future that explores more of her background, as well as introducing some of my other oc's.
It was June, and the air was warm and sticky, which wasn’t ideal; the humidity made Dash’s hair all frizzy, and it always seemed to happen on a day when she wanted to make meringue.
This morning in particular, her eyes snapped open, bolting upright in her bed with a gasp. She had been having the most amazing dream, in which she was about to take a bite of the biggest, most beautiful lemon meringue pie she had ever seen. However, just as the fork reached her mouth, she woke up, returning to the sad reality where she did not have a mouth watering dessert in front of her. She smacked her lips, trying to recall what the pie had tasted like, but it was already gone. Tragic.
It was then that it dawned on her that she had the ingredients to bring that beautiful pie to life in the kitchen. In an instant, she rushed to her bedroom window. Maybe, if she was lucky, the weather would be on her side today. She pried open the window, a warm, thick breeze blowing against her skin. She groaned. No good; meringue wouldn’t peak in the humidity. No matter how good at baking someone is, they’re no match for mother nature. Pursing her lips, she pulled the latch shut, deciding to settle for banana bread muffins instead.
A couple of hours later, the muffins were nestled in her bag as she hopped off the trolley that crossed the Brooklyn Bridge.
“Thanks!” Dash chirped to the driver, exchanging waves with the man before she bounced away, not noticing the large, gray clouds looming on the horizon.
She clicked her tongue rhythmically as she walked, matching the beat to her steps and scanning the docks for her friend, Twitchy. The purpose of her trip had been to return a book he lent her, but he was nowhere to be seen.
A group of four other teenagers had gathered nearby at the edge of the docks, crouching in a large circle on the ground. Curious, she inched forward, craning her neck to see what was going on.
As she approached, she could see they were surrounding a long piece of brown string that was tied in a circle, surrounding a cluster of marbles.
Her heart skipped a beat. She was fantastic at marbles! She always kept her own pouch on her in case of a marble emergency, which happened more often than one might think.
Now that she was closer, Dash knew the kids to be Newsies like herself from her other visits to the borough. Among the group was a short, round faced girl with glasses and hundreds of freckles who Dash remembered was named Abigail. Her curly, brown hair was pulled back into two braids, her eyebrows knit with frustration as she gazed down at the ring. There was also a pale, skinny boy with sandy, blond hair and brown eyes that Dash didn’t recognize, and a tall boy with broad shoulders and dark hair standing just behind Abigail and watching the game intently. The way he hovered over her, he seemed almost like a bodyguard. What was his name again? Something with a chuh sound…. Chuck? No. Chatter! That was it! She remembered now, she found it funny the first time she learned it because Chatter really didn’t say very much at all. He was a friendly enough guy, but he seemed to like observing and listening more than he liked talking. He and Abigail seemed to always be around one another when Dash saw them, their significant height difference almost comical. Finally, Dash’s eyes rested on the figure closest to her with their back turned. Their brown cap was pulled down low on their face as they knelt on the ground, but she could recognize those bright red suspenders anywhere. He was at an angle where she could just see that was holding a red shooter in his hand, weaving it through his fingertips thoughtfully.
Dash’s feelings toward Spot were… mixed; she could never stop herself from riling him up, and the two would often butt heads due to their wildly different personalities. Spot took himself so seriously, and for the life of her, she couldn’t understand why. It frustrated her that he tried to make himself seem so high and mighty, and she knew the kids in Brooklyn respected him, but as far as she could tell, he was just… some guy. The way he constantly tried to have the attention of those around him was so silly, and just made him come off as a bit of a show off.
She hadn’t seen him do anything particularly intimidating, but the Newsies back in Manhattan would often go on and on about how nervous he made them. She just failed to see any real reason for their apprehension. Then again, she really hadn’t been living in New York all that long; his reputation had been around for a good while. Maybe they all knew something she didn’t.
In any case, as far as she was concerned, he was just a kid who wanted attention. That was fine, of course, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to tease him. It was fun to challenge him, and she found herself getting extremely competitive in his presence. Of course he wasn’t going to back down from a challenge.
Dash would come to Brooklyn every once in a while to exchange books with Twitchy, who she knew was pretty close with Spot. He never seemed to show any signs of being intimidated either, and was an even bigger culprit than she was when it came to pushing Spot’s buttons. He would go to great lengths to make him look silly, like the time he filled Spot’s pockets with bread crumbs and got the neighborhood pigeons to follow him around all day. There was also a time when he dressed up in the same clothes as Spot, and had bribed the other Brooklyn kids with candy to pretend that he was the real Spot for an entire day.
Dash watched as the boy she hadn’t recognized leaned forward, closing one eye and taking a deep breath. He flicked his thumb, his yellow shooter zipping forward and smacking into another large, purple marble. Both marbles rolled over the string, coming to a rest on the other side. The boy whooped with delight, and Abigail let out a cry of astonishment.
“That was a cheap shot, Sonny!” Abigail crossed her arms in front of her chest, staring daggers at the boy. “You know I just got that marble yesterday!”
“It ain’t my fault I got good aim!” Sonny grinned, shrugging and walking over to claim the purple shooter for himself. “Sorry, toots.”
Dash thought Sonny didn’t look all that sorry.
Abigail huffed, sitting back and crossing her legs.
“Fine, whatever. Your turn, Spot.”
Spot, who had been silent the entire time, was already leaning down to shoot his own red marble. He extended his arm, appearing as still as a statue as he aimed the little glass ball toward the center.
At that moment, an idea popped into Dash’s brain. Slowly, without making a sound, she crept up behind him, biting her lip to keep herself from giggling and giving herself away. Finally, just as Spot started to release the shooter, Dash exclaimed “HI, SPOT!”
The boy let out a rather undignified yelp and his hand jerked, the marble rolling into the ring and bouncing gently on one of the mibs. It hardly budged, and Spot’s shooter halted beside it. The other three Brooklyn newsies broke out into laughter, and Spot’s shoulders tensed, turning his head slowly to glare up at Dash.
Dash just smiled, waving down at him.
“Didn’t you hear me? I said hi.”
Spot grunted and rose to his feet, his hazel eyes narrowing at Dash. Despite his intense stare, her expression remained unchanged.
“I heard ya, I heard ya.” He grumbled, glancing her up and down. “You messed me up, y’know.”
“Golly, did I do that?” she feigned surprise, her eyebrows raising. “Whoopsie daisies. Can I play?”
“We’re in the middle of a game.”
“Actually, it’s just endin’!” Sonny chimed in from behind him with a smile. Spot glanced back and shot Sonny a look, who quickly clammed up.
“Aw, that’s okay.” Dash shrugged, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. “It’s no big deal, Spot’s just afraid that I’ll beat him at his own game.” she looked back to Spot, and she swore she saw his eye twitch.
“No. I am not.” He replied firmly.
“Are too.”
“Am. Not.”
“Are tooooo.”
“NO, I am-” Spot’s voice had grown higher pitched in the heat of the moment, but he quickly paused, giving a sideways glance at his Newsies who were all staring at them. He took a deep breath and cleared his throat, his voice now sounding much lower than it had a moment ago.
“Fine.” He said cooly.  “Fine, you wanna play? We’ll play. Clear the ring, Sonny.”
In a matter of moments, the ring was reset, thirteen mibs resting in the center in a cross. Dash fished her sack of marbles out from her bag, a little blue pouch that her father had fashioned for her out of some spare fabric. She had about a dozen shooters she had collected over the years, but there was a very special one she wanted to use for this occasion.
She rummaged around in the pouch for a moment before pulling up a shooter that was minty green and blue with little white swirls. Sonny whistled, leaning in to look at it.
“That’s real pretty.” He mused. Dash beamed, tossing it up in the air once and catching it.
“Thanks! It’s the first marble I ever won back when I was younger.”
Abigail raised an eyebrow. “You sure ya wanna use that thing, then? Seems pretty special to be usin’ in a game. Don’t wanna end up like me and have it taken from ya.” She glared pointedly at Sonny, who only grinned back at her innocently with large, doe like eyes.
Dash nodded. “Oh, yeah! This guy is my go-to shooter, he’s real lucky!” She held it up proudly, admiring the way the colorful swirls glistened in the light. “I’ve never lost a match with him!”
Spot was also staring at the marble, a ghost of a smirk tugging at his lips.
“Huh. Oh, well, it’s your funeral, girlie.” He stretched his arms over his head, shifting his gaze back to her. “You better say your goodbyes now, ‘cause that thing’s gonna be in my pocket real soon.”
Dash stuck out her tongue at him. She wasn’t nervous; her lucky shooter had never failed her before, and this game would be no different.
The two knelt on opposite ends of the circle, and the others sat off to the side as spectators. Spot motioned his hand toward her.
“Ladies first.”
Dash positioned herself in front of the ring with her shooter. Without any delay, she flung her marble forward, grinning at the satisfying clack it made as it smacked into one of the mibs, sending two of them rolling out of the ring. Dash whooped loudly, and Spot continued to watched in silence with a serious expression.
“Nice!” Abigail grinned.
Her shooter was still within the circle, which meant she was able to shoot her marble again from the inside the ring. She hummed, hopping to the other side and returning to her knees to the left of Spot. As she reached for her shooter, her shoulder briefly brushed against his. Spot jumped as if he had been shocked, scowling and moving a few inches to his right. Dash barely even noticed him, focused on finding the right angle to shoot her marble. She flicked it once more and the marble struck another mib, but it didn’t have as much force as the first hit. It rolled a few inches and stopped just before reaching the edge. Dash shrugged, flopping backward onto her behind. “Oh well. Your turn.”
Spot nodded, adjusting his cap. Dash saw him glance over at the other kids for a fleeting second, then returned his gaze to the marbles. He cracked his knuckles loudly, which Dash found rather unnecessary, and flexed his hands at his sides. He scooped up his red shooter, assuming the position. His eyebrows knit together and he bit his lip.
This was ridiculous; the longer she waited for him to make his move, the more restless she felt. She drummed her hands on her lap as she waited. After what felt like centuries, she couldn’t take it anymore.
“Can’t you go any faster?” She huffed.
“I’m focusin’.”
“Focus faster!” she urged.
Spot’s jaw clenched, still not looking at Dash. He exhaled, finally releasing his marble. It hit two mibs at once, sending them flying out of the circle in opposite directions. Sonny cheered loudly and Abigail nodded with approval while Chatter clapped politely beside her. The marble stopped right where it hit its mark, meaning it was still in play.
Spot grinned, clearly pleased with himself as he turned his attention back to Dash. She clapped, nodding slowly.
“That was great, yeah! Hey, at this rate, maybe we’ll have a winner by Thanksgiving!” she teased. Abigail let out a cough that Dash could have sworn was a laugh.
Spot’s grin snapped back to a scowl, squinting hard at her. Dash smiled back. Sometimes it was just too easy.
Spot closed his eyes briefly, regaining his composure. When he opened his eyes again, the look in his eyes had changed.
“Oh, I ain’t movin’ fast enough for ya?” he asked, stretching out his arms and making a big show of moving into shooting position once more. Slowly, he leaned forward, maintaining eye contact with her the entire time. “That’s no problem. I can go faster.”
He set his eyes on Dash’s lucky shooter, and before she could even process what was happening, he shot his red marble straight for it.
Dash’s eyes widened in horror, and she gasped as the shooter crashed into her minty blue sphere, causing it to roll right out of the ring.
Her heart sank, realizing what he had just done. She looked up at him in dismay and was met with a smug smile.
“Oh, would ya look at that? Seems like ya lucky marble ain’t so lucky no more.” He snickered. “Oopsie daisies.”
The other Brooklyn kids appeared stunned at what their leader had done, exchanging nervous glances with one another. Sure, he had joked about taking the marble, but it didn’t seem like they thought he would actually take it.
“Spot…” Abigail started, but Spot ignored her, plucking the shooter from the ground and rolling it across his palm as he stood.
“You were right, Abby. She shoulda listened to your advice, don’t’cha think?”
For a minute, Dash was speechless. Did that really just happen? Was he being serious right now?
Her shock quickly turned to rage. She rose and stormed up to him, lunging toward the marble.
“No! That’s not fair, you can’t-”
“What exactly ain’t fair here?” Spot interrupted, snatching it away and holding her prized shooter high in the air. “I ain’t no cheater, ask anyone here! I won this here marble fair and square!” He looked over at the others for confirmation, daring any of them to argue. “You all saw it, right? No rules broken, yeah?”
Reluctantly, the three nodded in agreement, which only fueled Dash’s anger. She grunted and jumped toward his raised hand in an attempt to grab it, but he stepped back, barking out a laugh.
“Better luck next time, short stuff!”
Dash grunted, jumping up and down as she tried snatch her marble. “Oh, that’s rich, coming from you! You’re barely three inches taller than me at most!”
“Still, it’s three inches you ain’t got!” he snickered. “I’m playin’ the game the way it’s s’posed to be played! When ya shoot your opponent’s marble outta the ring, you claim it! That’s the rule!”
They danced around one another, Dash hopping up toward his hand and Spot pulling away at the very last second. Dash could feel her cheeks burning. She grit her teeth and let out a loud groan. “Why are you being such a jerk?!” She exclaimed, taking another swing just as he jumped out of the way.  “You only shot at my marble to be mean!”
“I’m the jerk?” He scoffed, side stepping when she tried to snatch it again. “You’ve been pickin’ on me this whole time! ”
“Was not!”
“Were too!”
“WAS NOT!”
“WERE TOO!”
“Hey, now,” Chatter spoke up for the first time, stepping forward. His voice was deep and soft. “Maybe we should all calm down…”
But Dash didn’t want to calm down. She was fuming, her hands clenching and unclenching at her sides. Logically, she knew she shouldn’t be getting so worked up over a silly, little marble, but she couldn’t control it; she was livid! How dare he take something from her that he knew was special to her! How dare he hold it over her head and taunt her with it! The way he smirked down at her made her stomach bubble with anger. She wasn’t going to let him get away with this.
She lunged once more, but this time, she wasn’t aiming at his hand.
She reached for his head, plucking off the brown cap from his head in one quick swipe and scurrying backward with a triumphant “HA!”
Spot blinked in surprise, his free hand instinctively moving toward his head. His caramel hair was now in disarray, falling in wisps across his face.
“Ha ha. Very funny, girlie, give it back.”
“No.”
“Seriously? Dash, c’mon.”
Dash was already scooping up her bag of belongings and throwing it over her shoulder, a wild grin on her face. It was juvenile, sure, but it was the only thing she could think to do in the heat of the moment. She offered him a quick salute, then bolted from the scene of the crime, leaving a flabbergasted Spot behind her.
She was already halfway down the block before she heard an enraged bellow behind her:
“DAAAAASH!”

How did you get into Veronica Mars fandom?
Somewhere in the middle of S2, a friend of mine from high school started to talk about this show and how much I’d like it. At the general description of a high school detective, I borrowed her S1 DVDs and devoured the show in three days.  After that I started to discover fandom, mostly because I used Inigo’s transcripts to keep myself up with what the show was doing before I could watch live.
Shortly after starting the show, I had this job where I spent too much time in an office and was easily bored. I used a bunch of downtime to read fic and post in a message board (FanForum for anyone curious.)  When that job ended (thankfully) I had all of this spare time and just sort of fell into writing.
Were you an experienced writer when you started writing for VM?  If so, what kind of writing had you done, and/or what fandoms had you written for?   If not, was it really intimidating to post your first story?
I’m a little fuzzy on these details right now, but I wasn’t that experienced when I started writing in VM. I think I had a story or two written in The OC before I posted here, but I had some great support from a few friends (sarah_p //  Sarah's Crack ) for one was a big support) when I did post my first story.
What was it about Veronica Mars that interested you?  Why did you feel compelled to write for this particular show?
I really fell for the characters when I started to watch. Veronica was such a compelling character, and as I kept watching I fell more in love with Logan, too. I felt compelled in that post-S2 summer to see the relationship between Logan and Veronica explored (as so many other people did.)
Are you creative in other media for fandom (vidding, icons, etc.)?
I pick up making icons here and there, but I don’t think I have the same skill as many other people do. It’s a different creative medium, and one that I think stretches a different part of my brain.
What was the best moment for you, in fandom?  (Not necessarily a moment in the show, but fandom itself.)
I think it was the moment when I found myself in a position to go to all of these events around LA and San Diego. I found that people around LJ were interested as a result because there was something for people to enjoy that I had been able to capture.
If you had a magic wand, and could change VM fandom in any way, past or present, what would you do?
I wish S3 hadn’t been so divisive—it’s spoiled so many people on the show, and when you still love parts of it, but not all of it, it’s hard to stay positive around other people.
Of your accomplishments in fandom/cyberspace, which are you most proud of?
Weirdly, I think it’s little things I’ve done that bring a smile to my face. Sharing my time with the cast with others in any way. That’s not just the picspams when I went to an event, but these moments where I could get autographs or phone calls to other people. At different times, I’ve been able to make a friend’s birthday just a little brighter with a message from the cast (Sarah and another friend M.)
What’s your favorite VM episode and why?
I go back and forth on this answer all of the time, but I think it’s Ain’t No Magic Mountain High Enough. In part because it was the first episode I remember watching live, and also because I’m a sucker for banter between Logan and Veronica. That whole episode is filled with it, even if they aren’t together as a couple.
What’s your least favorite episode and why?
Blast from the Past—I just can’t get behind the mystery of the week, or what Jackie does to Veronica as a way to keep Wallace to herself.
How do you feel about season 3?
I’m a mixed bag on the subject. I think that the first arc has promise, though it didn’t do much to satisfy my need for Logan and Veronica in a healthy relationship. I’m not a fan of how Piz was introduced, or what his purpose was in the long run.
The Dean O’Dell arc lacks heart (and the Hearst rapist does too when I look at it), and the last five are just all over the place.
In total, I haven’t brought myself to rewatch the whole season since it aired, but I made a promise to myself at some point I would (I plan to live-blog all of the episodes, but I only managed to finish the first three.)
If you met Rob Thomas, what would you say to him?  (Assume that you have taken magical drugs that enable you to not be tongue-tied and you can completely speak your mind.)
I briefly met him and talked to him during season three, but if I could have a longer conversation, I’d really want to understand what his motives were for Logan and Veronica in that season. It seemed that the show always had Logan and Veronica together off screen so that the audience had no real reason to understand those later break-ups.
If you could talk to the writing staff, what question(s) would you have for them?
I’m always interested in some of the specifics of the room—are there any writers who cater to writing for certain characters? What characters do you like to write more than others? I think I’m just interested in their process more than anything else.
Writing
Which story of yours is your favorite, and why?
I’m really a fan of “The Black Hole” because I think it was a different sort of writing exercise for me. I also think I was really into the moment when I wrote it, and it shows. I can’t remember how long it took me to write, but I think it was a pretty quick write once I had the idea solidified in my head.
Are there any stories of yours that are (to your surprise) fan favorites?
Not really a surprise, but I love the reaction I had to Rational Thought. My Piz issues just got one big escape in that piece and everyone who read it had a similar reaction.
Do you (or did you at first) feel uncomfortable posting R or NC17 rated stories?
I think I was a bit apprehensive the first time (especially since it was my first fic in the fandom), but as I’ve written more and more of those fics, I’m more comfortable with the ways of writing it. I also love all of my betas who help me through the mechanics of writing it.
If you could start over and rewrite any of your stories (assume unlimited time and you would be paid for your efforts, because this is a fantasy), which story would you choose, and what changes would you make?
I’m not proud of Compulsion as it was written in the end, so I’d work there and really craft the narrative more than it is now. It’s not that it’s not beta-ed, but that it wasn’t really planned or structured beyond what is written. I think there was promise in the beginning and it floundered.
Do you write for any other fandoms?
I write here and there in a few other fandoms, but most of my work is in VM.  Some of the other shows are harder to get a feel for, so much that I don’t know if I have the character voices down.
Do you write any original works, and if so, can we see any of them?  Have you ever taken any writing classes?  Have you ever published anything? Won any competitions?
I wrote a few pieces of original fic, which are at my writing community. I haven’t been one to take a writing course, but in high school I had an award-winning poem at the local county fair.
That piece, I wrote was in my junior year of high school, spring semester (so let’s call is March 2000.) We had to write an emulation of Langston Hughes’s “I Am”, and I went all out—confused kid to the max. My teacher ate most of it up, and had me submit it to the Fair.  It went on to win the best poem for high schoolers, the best high school piece and Best in Show for all student work. I have three lovely ribbons, a paper weight to show for it.
What other VM author influenced you the most?  Do you have a favorite VM story (by another author)?
I spent most of my time reading things from Loveathons and Fic From Mars when I was reading, so I guess any of those authors. I really love dark_roast’s ( dark_roast) style. I think mutiousmuse and truemyth (TrueMyth) each have some amazing pieces, too. What’s great about being part of fandom is learning how much else you have in common with authors you love. I’m still friends with Musey and Truemyth after I met them at Comic Con in 2006.
Overall, I think my favorite story is Finite Erasure (TW), which puts me in the camp of loving angst. I worked with Trixx (Trixx) as she wrote it and I think I fell for the story she was telling and how much it hurt along the way.
What fanfic do you wish you’d had the idea for and written yourself?
If I had a mind for her particular brand of crazy, I’d have love to have written One True Pair, because the creativity and perspective amaze me.
Who are your favorite traditional authors?  Do you have a favorite book or series?
I love Oscar Wilde’s wit; I love Fitzgerald’s use of flawed characters. When I was in college I became a huge fan of Isaac Bashevis Singer. Sadly I’m not a huge book fan, though I do love words and compelling stories. Persuasion is one of my favorite stories, along with The Alchemist. I found myself more easily distracted by television as a kid and when I do get a book, I tend to read some fluffy chick-lit.
 Getting to Know You
To which character in VM do you feel you are the most similar, or what situation in VM reminds you of your own life?
Even though I don’t write her enough, I feel like I’m a slightly less tech-savvy version of Mac. I wasn’t one to have boyfriends in high school, and I think that just influences my outlook now.
Share a fun memory with us, something related to fandom.
This moment at an event in San Diego where my friends and I spent a good five minutes trying to remember the Eleanor Roosevelt quote from Logan’s voicemail.
Or the time I had Jason write a message to my journal without him really knowing where it was going.
Dog person, cat person, neither or both?
Cat person! My cat Auric loves everyone he meets, and wants to keep me from my computer when I leave it open in his presence. He really loves to sit on my keyboard when I’m not around.
What was the happiest day in your life (that you can share with us)?
December 12, 2000—the day I got into college. I’m pretty lame most of the time.
The apocalypse is on us.  You’ve got five minutes to gather your stuff before you flee (assume that your loved ones are already safe).  What do you take?
This is going to be pretty typical, but my laptop, and external hard drives, so I’m not without my pictures. Maybe a few of my autographs and old-school photos too.
What don’t we know about you, that we should know?
I’m not nearly as interesting as I sound on the internet. ;)
The Nuts and Bolts of Writing
Do you consider yourself a stickler for grammar, or do you prefer a more casual approach?  Specifically, serial comma: for or against?
I’m weirdly a stickler for grammar when I’m not the one writing. I’m usually for the serial comma, which I blame on years of it being grilled into my head from school.
What grammar issue do you constantly have to struggle with?
Spelling—I’m horrible at it most of the time.
Do you have any writing reference books you can’t live without?
I have a few copies of writing guides tucked away in my garage, but I don’t regularly look at them when I’m writing.
Are you a plotter or a “pantser”? (Do you outline your stories or do you write “by the seat of your pants”?)
It really depends on the story. I have some basic idea of a fic when I start to write it, but there are times when I only know that general outline and other times when I have a better plan.
There’s one story that’s been buried on my computer that’s plotted more than anything else I write. There are notes on how each chapter should work, but I only did that because it was a true multi-chapter fic.
My other fics that have turned into WIPs are not as plotted as they should be.
What’s your favorite point-of-view to write?
I love third-person more than anything else. It gives you the flexibility to talk about more than one person in the context of the story.
What type of writing is your favorite to write (dialogue, plot, action, interior monologue, description, sex scene, etc.)?  Your least favorite?
Dialogue—no questions. I love banter as much as anyone else.
My least favorite—probably sex scenes. They’re awkward to figure out, positions, how clinical but not too clinical.
Do you listen to music while you write?  Do you listen to different music depending on what you’re writing?
I do, unless I’m watching TV. My music doesn’t change depending on what I write, though maybe it should. My poor iTunes has been known to be demonic when I read fic, though it doesn’t do that as often when I’m writing.
What inspires you to write?
I like motivational moments that can drive a point home—so I tend to write shorter pieces that are about emotions instead of plot driven.
What blocks you from writing?
Lack of time. The inability to express what I’m looking for.
 Specifically for Afrocurl!
What surprised you the most about Jason Dohring in person (that you can share with us)?
He’s a genuinely sweet person who adores his fans and what they do for him. I’d never had too many experiences with actors before I met him and he set the stage for being kind to fans.
How is he like Logan?  How is he not like Logan?  Did he do anything that freaked you out after watching him on TV so much?
I think he has Logan’s physical ticks—hair rakes and the like.
He’s not as precise with language as Logan. In person he’s sort of like any other California guy I’ve met.
Which story of yours would it appall you the most to find out that Jason had read?
The Weevil and Logan story. I think he’d blush and be shocked at the subject more than anything.
Which of your celebrity encounters thrilled you to death, but the rest of world could care less?
The girl who loves politics was thrilled by meeting Justice Scalia at my college. Though I’m sure I’m the only one who can appreciate it now.
We know you do a lot for charities.  Do you have anything coming up that we should know about, that you’d like us to support?
Since Sweet Charity has ended, I haven’t done much work for charity recently. I’ve been a little too busy with the rest of life to help out with the Queensland floods and the like.
What’s your dream job?
Working at a high school teaching either Government or US History, maybe AP if that’s an option.
Your life seems to be going through a lot of changes right now.  How do you see yourself ten years from now?...family, job, hobbies, etc., anything you want to share with us.
I’d love to have a stable job, with friends and family nearby for support. I can’t hope for much else than that right now.

Note
if you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself (or your book/oc) and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not!
1) I am technically a published author. Won a small-scale writing competition when I was twelve and my short story got published. After that, I’ve written my first actually finished short story no longer than a month ago.
2) The world of JYTFS (which I call earth, just to mess with people) is bigger than the story itself. Just Your Typical Fantasy Story is just an introduction book for this world. If I manage to finish it, there are more coming.
3) Umm... I try to write poetry and song lyrics sometimes. It’s rarely good and I almost never post it, but I like the process :)

So I’m finally getting around to do that aspec Q & A that @ace-and-aro-wlw-positivity posted, and I have quite a few aspec ocs so this could get rather lengthy but here we go
1. What was your inspiration for your character(s)? Are they modeled on yourself, a person that you know, or a character that’s already been established?
My first aspec oc, Abby Scott, was based on myself when I thought I was a biromantic ace girl. So she takes a lot after me.
Theo Yamada, on the other hand, was a completely new character. I don’t exactly remember why I made him alloarospec, and I’ve been flipping from one arospec identity to the other, but no matter what he always remained alloaro.
Mina Nicholson was my first character that I had predetermined to be alloaro from the start. She’s based on an old tumblr post about some super hero series idea called “Aces and Arrows.” I obviously didn’t make Mina into some superhero, but her guitar skills make her come pretty close :D.
Brittany Olajobi is also based on an old tumblr post. Remember the “All or Nothing” idea thing that was floating around here?(Yes, I’m aware it turned into a scam, but I thought the premise was cute). Since no one actually made anything out of that I decided to make the characters my own. The asexual and pansexual girls were roomates....but also girlfriends. That idea kinda evolved into one of my newer series called “Play the Rainbow”, but that’s gonna take a while to explain.
Queenie Brooks...is based on a crude caricature someone made of an ace person (the “artist” has probably never talked to an ace person outside of tumblr but whatever), so I took that character and fleshed her out. She’s an aroace trans girl who’s evry big in activist circles, especialy the sex worker industry
2. How much, if any, has your character(s) changed since they were first created? What caused this change?
Abby and Brittany haven’t changed much besides in their appearance, Queenie and Mina underwent drastic appearance changes since they were created, and Theo’s kinda been going back and forth on the aromantic spectrum,  from strictly aro to demiromantic to aroflux. I’ve finally settled one greyromantic, which coinicdentially is what I identify as.
4. Do you intend on publishing your story one day? Why, or why not?
Probably not. I’m closeted in real life and likely to stay that way as long as I’m financially dependent on my parents.
7. Time to get serious for a bit. There’s been heavy debate on having non-human characters identify as ace, aro, non-binary, etc., but never actual humans. As someone who’s aspec, how would you explain to someone who’s allo why this can be and is seen as hurtful?
Ace and Aro people have been seen as inhuman and robotic for not feeling attraction, especially not in the same way that people who aren’t aro or ace do. Please reconsider making that animal/robot/alien oc aspec unless all or most of your characters aren’t human as well.
8. It’s a sad reality that many stories in mainstream media don’t have characters that are aspec, not to mention without resorting to harmful stereotypes. Besides there being nothing wrong with IDing as aspec, why did you choose to have your character ID as such? What would you tell other authors who’re interested in writing characters that are aspec, but are afraid of offending the community?
I make my characters aspec because. I’m aspec. Also there aren’t a lot of aspec representation (the little we get lol) that isn’t white or cis or yes, heteromantic./heterosexual. Considering the fact that I’m none of those things, all of my aspec ocs are poc like me, some even trans as well. To authours who want to write aspec characters but don’t want to offend the community, PLEASE ask around. Ask more than one person of that specific demographic. Their opinion should not be the only one that shapes yours! Also, if you’re writing an alloaro character, don’t ask someone who’s alloace or aroace. Similarly, don’t ask an alloaro person about writing alloace/aroace characters. Aspec people are not a monolith, our experiences are not the same
9. If you’re comfortable with sharing, what is your characters’ identity? Do they use any microlabels? Does theirs reflect your own?
Abby is a biromantic ace, Theo is a greyromantic bisexual, Mina is an alloaro bisexual, Brit is an ace lesbian, and Queenie is an oriented aroace trans woman.
11. Why do you think that not just representation is important, but GOOD representation? Can you offer any examples?
Fiction affects reality. Therefore, how people see us in the media affects how they see us in real life.
14. What’s a brief biography of your character? Is their history, personality, and/or looks similar to your own?
Uh I don’t necessarily have biographies for them but I have an oc carrd with their details
15. What are the themes of your story? Is it a lighthearted adventure, or are we talking deep, ocean-sized levels of angst? Why, or why not, did you choose them?
It’s a mix of light hearted fun and lots of angst. But everyone (who deserves it) gets a happy ending so it’s all good.
16. How long have you been writing? Has your style changed from when you first began to now? What are some tips you’d give to those who’re interested in writing a story of their own, be it professionally or as a hobby?
I’ve been writing since I was 8. I once won an honorable mention in a writing competition in the third grade believe it or not lol. My writing has definetely changed a lot, and that’s partially thanks to my English teachers I had along the way. My advice to people interested in writing a story on their own is to invest in a laptop/notebook and find time to write. Any time at all.
17. What’s your process for writing? Do you plan your story out first, write whatever you want then edit later, or both? How might this help others?
Planning? Ha! I write as I go. Sometimes I go back and edit entire scenes before publishing tho.
18. Your book’s become quite popular, easily reaching the New York Times Bookseller list, and now, you’ve been picked to lead a writing workshop. It goes swimmingly, and afterward, someone comes and tells you that your book not only inspired them to write a story of their own, but also helped them discover and accept their identity. What’s your reaction?
Tumblr media
I’m...not good with compliments.
20. Just for fun, write down a paragraph of your most recent writing. It can be an action-packed scene, some witty dialogue, or a colorful description that you really enjoyed. (Be sure to properly tag any possible triggers!)
Here’s what I’ve started working on:
Theo smooths out the wrinkles on his blue uniform, giving himself a once over in the mirror. All his belongings of 5 long years were packed and ready to board on the ship the  higher-ups would issue to him He turns and takes down one last poster and rolls it up, placing it in his duffel bag. Perfect. Now all he had to do was go through the graduation ceremony and he’d get his first assignment. His hard work being at the top of his class was finally going to pay off.
“Heyyyy, my older twin’s looking sharp tonight!” Trent exclaims, leaning in the doorway with his own uniform in red. He whirls into the room, flopping on the now barren bed. “Ahh, this bed has so many memories. Come on, sit with me!”
“Trent, the ceremony’s so soon.”
“Theooooo,” he pouts. “This may be the last time we see this room, because we’ll be in space!”
He wiggles his fingers in Theo’s face for dramatic effect. The older twin chuckles, taking a seat on the bed.
“Let’s see,” Theo muses, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “I remember when we first got here. We were 10 years old, tiny, adorable and innocent little creatures. You were so terrified because they had put us in separate rooms.”
“I was not!” Trent argues. “It was just…a bit of a shock considering I always slept with someone else in my room instead of…all by myself.’
“Whatever. You crept into my room in the middle of the night, poked me awake and gave me the whole puppy-dog-eyes-and-quivering-bottom-lip routine to get me to beg me to let you sleep in my bed that night.”
“And you pretty much told me to go play in traffic,” he laughs. “And I still got in your bed anyway and slept there the whole night!”
“And you kept doing it until you turned 12!” Theo finishes with a playful shove.

OC Interview with Anita "stinging punch" Faerun 🤩
Creator: Baihaqi
Tell us about yourself:
I am the daughter of a famous and legendary boxer. I have a good friend named Mr. Valiry. He is very skilled in medicine and has saved my father when he was seriously injured during the match. It would traumatize me so much If my father had to leave like my mother did. So I'm very grateful I have met and become friends with Mr. Valiry. I already considered him a member of my family, so I didn't think twice when he invited me to travel to various places to increase the stocks of medicine. Of course, I am the one who will punch the bad guys and if they repent I would treat them for free. One day, the ship we were on was hit by a storm and I was separated from Mr. Valiry, so my goal now is to find him. My other goal is to help new friends who helped me when I was stranded. That will require reconciling a kingdom that is about to go all out in a civil war!
Tell us about your love life:
I would say I love my dad, he was a legendary boxer. He thought me much about fighting and brawling. Then, I guess I love Mr. Valiry, without him my dad would succumb to his wound after one of his terrible matches. In romance, I didn't find anyone yet, but I might find someone on my interesting journey to prevent war in the land of divine wood.
Where would you take a date?
Me, my dad, and Mr. Valiry usually ate some Nasi Goreng together anytime my dad won a big match. Dad would say "order whatever you want, Nita" and one of us always ordered Nasi Goreng. Sometimes Mr. Valiry took me to his herb garden and taught me trivia about his medicinal plants. Some of them are poisonous! My Dad, he took me to the ring and sometimes thought me some fighting moves, but the best thing he would do was cheer me up during my fighting competitions. Even when I lost, I was happy he and Mr. Valiry were there.
What is your idea of paradise?
Before my mother disappeared from our house, she once said that a heaven is a place where your kindness is rewarded. My mother reminded me never to feel lost when doing something good. So I think paradise is a beautiful place where I could meet up with the people I helped, share stories and have fun!
What do you love about yourself?
I love my blue eyes, my dad said that these eyes always reminded him of mom. He says my grandfather used to have them, ... I think this is inherited in my family.
What are your bad habits?
I panic!!! I usually thought dad is unconscious after the match so I would panick and try to find Mr Valiry, but actually most of the time he was just resting. I stil panic every time one of the plants that I take care of withers and I don't know why it happens just like that...
If you had $1 million, what would you do with the cash?
I would open our own ring. I want to see dad training the weak young children to be strong like him, so that they can protect themselves from bad people. Then I would publish an promote Mr. Valiry's book, you would be very surprised by how much knowledge of medicine he has, you may have never heard of some of the things before and it is usually very easy to apply. I want him to write down his knowledge into a useful book for others!
Do you have any enemies?
I am not afraid of those who try to pit kingdoms against each other to go into war. Right now they are the ones who are the priority to get hit by my punches! Both from me and my adventurous friends. They have to understand and stop their warmongering path!
If you could appear in any popular movie or book, which one would you choose and why?
I dreamed that my portrait is a big poster advertising a phenomenal match in front of a stadium someday. Fighting match with champions from other kingdoms. Then, in my dream, my mom would see that poster and come back home.
What’s your relationship with your creator?
Wait. Who? Creator? What do you mean?
Do you have any advice for other character creators?
Advice, huh? Everyone wants to be happy, so make them get their own happiness!
