2 years of marriage with nozel silva.

in the beginning of your marriage, nozel treated you with care even though he was the captain of a magic knight group. you knew the responsibilities those captains hold.

you knew it all to well. nozel became too busy to the point that you don't even see a strand of his hair at home. whenever nozel became too busy, you didn't know if you want to confront him about it or just let it go — but he neglect you too much.

whenever you tried to ask him to eat dinner with you, it was always the same response — "i have mission" or "i still have a lot more paperwork" with that cold tone of his. you know nozel is trying his best but won't he look at you once when saying that? at least try to make sure you knew you were still loved by him.

it has been more than 3 weeks, you couldn't handle it anymore so this time you tried to be brave and confront him about it.

"nozel, do you have time right now?" you ask him with that soft tone of yours. nozel glanced at you "i do, what is it?" for the first time in weeks he finally face you and look at you in the eyes.

you breath in and out "nozel, don't you think you're neglecting me too much? i know that you have your duties as a captain but can't you atleast.. please, if you actually have the time to atleast tend to your husband duties? is this asking too much for you?" you were shaking because this is the first time you confront nozel about anything.

after that argument you had a few days ago, you gave silent treatment to each other. you didn't greet him home neither did he come looking for you. ever since that day you found comfort in isolating yourself in the bedroom that's always occupied by two people but now the other side of the bed felt cold.

it ruins your mental health though, without the company of your lover, you felt like your world is falling apart. the maids tried to make you eat the foods but you didn't. you kept rejecting them.

just like how nozel was, you started to be diligent in your duties on taking care of the house but you overworked yourself to the point whenever you stand up from your seat, you get a major headache.

you started to not going out of the house to have fresh airs and just locked yourself in. the staffs were worried about you. they whispered to eachother what will happen to you and nozel's marriage. will it break?

you sit on the edge of your bed while gripping your head "it hurts..." you mumbled to yourself. this time, you couldn't handle the stress and the headaches. you felt dizzy and nausea. soon enough, you fainted in your room.

hours later, nozel finally came back from his mission and wanted too relax in his room for abit when he suddenly saw the state you're in after he entered the room. he ran over to you and carried you to the bed, he called the maids to help him with you.

"[name], [name], what happened to you? please wake up!" he panicked seeing you in that state. your skin was pale and your breathing was also low. it put nozel into being an overthinker.

he questioned the staffs on the reason why you fainted. the staffs that was around him had a panicked look. they knew the reason why so one of them spoke up "[name]-sama has been overworking herself. s-she also hadn't been eating well. we tried to let her rest and also tried to make her eat but she refused too... also! we don't want to put any blame but we think that it's because of you, nozel-sama. maybe it's because of the big argument you two had few days ago..." the staff stammered, the staff looked around the room instead of meeting nozel's eyes while saying that. the other staffs agreed with what they said.

nozel had a shocked face after he heard the reason, he looked back towards your sleeping figure. "it's... because of me?" nozel thought, he bit the inside of his cheeks. he remembered the argument all too well. so because of that, you overworked yourself..?

nozel cleared his throat and ordered the staffs to get out of the room, the staffs hurried out of the room not wanting to witness nozel's wrath. well they assumed that nozel is gonna be mad at them.

the room is finally quiet with only you two's own breathing. nozel sit beside you on the bed and looked at your face. he felt guilty and regretted what he said. he knew the damage can't be undone.

but this time, he will try and only look at her. even if his work keep piling up, his wife's happiness is his first priority. he will try to be the better version. he will try to have quality time with her.

he will try balancing work life and his private life.

hello! need help learning how to do a thing and it's your area of expertise so im squirrelling into your ask box (dad joke, sorry.) ANYWAY

i have a lot of jeans that i really really like. however, my most worn jeans tend to, uh. rip in the seat after some time. either near the ass, or at the crotch. this is super irritating, and i don't like tossing the jeans just because of that but i have no idea how to fix them or what to do about this.

i vaguely remember you posting on here about jeans wear and tear as well. sorry if im asking you something that you have already answered, but just wanted to know - what's a good way of mending jeans ripped in the crotch area?

better yet, how do i reinforce my jeans that are showing the warning signs of ripping at the crotch?

My jeans literally just ripped a couple days ago and ive been wearing sweatpants to work out if laziness, so you have good timing 🐿

There might be many ways to do this (and there's definitely NEATER ways to do this) but here's how I fix mine:

They just sort of wore right through. Luckily I was able to catch it before they started ripping too. The sooner you catch a hole the better--and noticing before it rips is best.

You will need a sewing needle (for jeans I like the shortest sharpest needle with a small eye but use whatever needle is comfortable), scissors, a strip of scrap fabric, and some thread. Ideally thread in the same color as your jeans, but I'm using one that will stand out so you can see the repair. Also, nobody will see this later so it doesn't really matter. Pins will also help keep things neat but aren't strictly necessary.

The strip of fabric should be big enough to cover the entire area that wears out, doubled over, on this leg. You can of course just patch the hole, but then you'll grow a new hole a centimeter to the left, so its less work to just do this now.

For preventative measures (sewing a patch on before there is a hole) the process is exactly the same. Just patch the area you know will wear out.

Step 1: turn the pants inside out. fold your patch and pin it in place. We want a doubled patch because a single layer might wear through as well. If you don't have pins, you can use a spare needle or just set it over the repair site.

Like so. If you want these to look nice, keep everything neat and straight. I just want these mended and don't care how it looks one iota, so mine will be messy.

Step 2: thread your needle with doubled thread. A single thread can and probably will wear through here.

Step 3: put your non dominant hand down the leg you're fixing. Your hand should be under the patch supporting while you sew. If you have an embroidery hoop or something leg-sized to put there to hold things taut, that's even better.

Step 4: start sewing the patch down. First we just want to secure it before we do any reinforcing. You could use any stitch here ( whipstitch would probably be good, backstitch is good as well) but I just use a simple running stitch. Go around the entire patch, removing pins if present as you go. Keep your stitches loose here, or at least not tight.

Step 5: reinforcing ! This part can be done on either side, and the front is going to look way neater than the back. If this is in matching thread I'd go ahead and work on the inside because the messy outside won't be seen. If it's contrasting thread you may want to work on the outside, so that at least you have a good pattern. I don't care either way, so I'll work on the inside as it's a little easier. Like I said, this repair really won't be seen when wearing the pants, so the aesthetics aren't very important imo.

To reinforce, I will stitch plus signs/x's over the entire patch. You can do them one at a time or sew all the horizontal lines, then sew vertically to intersect. It's up to you, I like doing them one at a time though.

Yes, they're very bad. Yes this will still extend the life of these pants several months at least. Yes it would be even more effective if I took the time to be neater.

On top on the right image is the patch I did on the other side when they started shredding 5 or 6 months ago. The fabric on the front is only just now starting to fail again, so they will need another round of mending. I will probably extend the patch down the leg a little but mostly just sew more. When you add a layer of thread over fabric, now you have to wear through all of the thread before you start wearing down the fabric again. That's largely how these patches work.

A much much neater and more aesthetic form of this basic idea is sashiko sewing. It's a great way to mend things like jeans (I just don't care about my jeans being anything other than usable so I save my effort and creativity for where I will enjoy it).

Here's the front. I highly doubt anyone will ever see the yellow but I sharpied it black (can also do blue on most shades of blue jeans) and now it stands out less.

One last thing--if, when you look at the front again, you see there are some damaged areas standing proud, sew over those until they have compacted back down and are smooth again. This is important--whatever stands the highest will wear first. So your repairs should be sitting on top, standing higher than the damaged fabric. Otherwise this is all for naught.

Some tips:

A canvas fabric is better. Go for something thick and with some weight to it if you can--immobilizing the repair site will also help some with how long the repair will last.

Similarly colored thread will render this almost invisible. Almost invisible means hard to work on... so make sure your patch is a different color so you're not mending like black thread on black fabric. Save your eyes.

Smaller stitches are better if you have the time/coordination. Large stitches can snag in the wash and also aren't as effective here.

That said, chicken scratch looking garbage will absolutely still make your pants wearable again, as you can see.

If the physical act of moving the needle is going terribly, it's because it's the wrong needle for the job. For jeans, you want a short needle as thin as possible with a small eye. I switched halfway thru this mend because I found a better needle and it was way easier after that.

I used to love this series so much and it turned into... this... It's heartbreaking. I only recommend JJK to you if you're aware that it's not that good and it's mostly carried by its battles rather than its plot or characters. And tbh the community is fun. - to answer the first 3 questions: toji cheated bc he was bored. i have no excuses for this man in home series bc he really cheated bc their rs was getting a bit dull for him. do u know that point they say in some lovers' relationship. the drought, the feeling similar to "falling out of love" but they say not to leave your partner during this time bc that's when true love begins? yeah that. 🥹 he didn't really fell out of love but it's like a similar feeling to it.

- as for plans for another series, i'm thinking of doing a mini one. i have a draft here just waiting to be polished and published.

- if yn didn't die, hmm... assuming they stayed together, it's gonna be a very dead relationship. bc yn is so so tired. not just emotionally but mentally too. she's gonna have a hard time believing that toji still loves her even if he tried to explain. she's gonna be very reserved and visibly uncomfortable around him, thinking that he doesn't really want to be w her and just staying out of pity. she's gonna limit herself, and the love that she shows him. it will ultimately end in divorce, and he's gonna end up not wanting to sign it.

- for the 7th and 8th question, yes toji thought of yn every day and every night. the onyl time he's not thinking of her is when he's swarmed with work. but even during those times, his mind wanders to her still. the feeling that he felt when he learned of her death and discovered how she prepared everything for him and his new life was how he felt his whole life. it was never lessened. if anything it only got worse w time.

- for the 9th, 10th and 11th question: no, he didn't love his mistress more than yn. he left and put his mistress over his wife bc he thought that's what he wanted. there was a sense of thrill, the feeling of being with someone new that pushed him to act like that. as mentioned in the home series, his pride took over and he thought that that's the freedom that he wanted but it wasn't. it was too late when he realized that. you really don't know what you got until it's gone. he thought yn's gonna be there forever and that's why he kept choosing to go to his mistress not knowing that yn's days were numbered and that he's about to lose her.

- when he first cheated w her out of pure lust. there was no deeper meaning to it. and then it kept happening bc he found escape and thrill in it. other than that, she gives him a different type of attention, something new.

- w hana it was the attraction that made him act like that. im not saying all people, but some tend to be nice to attractive people and they don't even notice that to impress a new one, they end up neglecting another one. other than that, it's bc they work together. he doesn't plan on getting it on w her tho. he loves yn.

- i just like the thought of them making mistakes to learn from LMAO but i guess the difference is in fix you, his wife's dead. it's the lack of appreciation for the present and being stuck in the past. while in sundered, uhm it's a lot of pride and he did love Naomi tho. she was so good to him. (except that 'thing' she tried to do)

Bro is. Surprisingly good at memorizing names and faces. Some attribute it to his weird idiosyncracy of calling individuals their names in a specific pattern(___ the ____) or maybe his. Freakish memory of things that happened years ago, but he knows every student that has ever happened upon his office or that he's had to sub for.

He's not usually too fond of keeping up with shenanigans or gossip unless they are targeting someone else for a change. Heinrich is often the target of pranks so he isn't usually super keen on being involved in whatever big drama is occurring at the time.

🎩Lewis

Honestly? Lewis is like. The worst example of a Heartslabyul student lmao. When it comes to chores, he's. Pretty atrocious about doing most of them on time (he'd rather be in his studio and recording), ESPECIALLY if he has to feed the flamingoes (he made a duplicate uniform and dyed it pink for this express purpose, but that doesn't mean he's very fond of it. In fact, he often tries to skip out on wearing it, but he usually winds up losing his head as a result). He DOES however enjoy helping prepare tea and such for the Unbirthday parties, since his family is pretty well known in his hometown for the tea that they grow. He knows his way around different types and how they're best prepared, so he actually kind of enjoys helping out when it comes to tea.

Joking aside, you'd think that based on how many times in the past few weeks Lewis lost his head that he'd actually have memorized SOME rules by now (mainly the ones he's frequently guilty of breaking), but he probably does follow some rules, either intentionally or unintentionally. As the rules pertain to tea, you know he's on it, but when it comes to running around underwater until you're dry or having a cat to play a fiddle? Nah, he'll just take the collar.

Casimir is classically trained in the violin and occasionally dabbles in music composition. His dad's side of the family are all classically trained musicians and some have even gone on to perform at important events both in his hometown and abroad. Despite not caring too much for the violin, he DOES enjoy music composition, if only because he wants "to create the ultimate theme befitting an Evil Overlord such as himself".

Aside from his Unique Magic (and even in that case), Casimir is shockingly mediocre at most magic in spite of his cocky attitude. Despite that, though, he's somehow INCREDIBLY skilled when it comes to practicing minor hexes and curses. Maybe it's the fact that he practices waxing poetic and using wild language in the mirror on a day to day basis, but no one really knows why this is for certain.

i. despite being a slytherin, you were very much into muggle science and did a lot of reading on it. coming from a pureblood family, that was pretty hard to do so you’ve learned to be sneaky with your books; transfiguring their covers to look like generic wizard books that your family wouldn’t bat an eye at. it was nerve-wracking to do at first but now you’ve gotten into a good routine with it so it was only natural that you eventually became pretty tame and, eventually, careless with their placement. hence why it’s in the hands of remus lupin.

ii. “i hope you don’t mind,” he started, “but i had to look inside the cover to find out who it belonged to,” the tall brunette had a lot of nerve stopping you in the middle of the hallway with your slytherin friends surrounding you. you were shocked and embarrassed all at once and hurriedly snatched the book from his hands before hurrying along with your friends elsewhere, not even voicing a single word of ‘thanks’ to him. for a time, you feel his curious gaze linger on your passing figure for a while and you wonder if he ever looked past the cover page…

iii. the next interaction the two of you had was a simple one in passing, and just when you had started to forget the previous encounter you had. a drawn out sigh leaves you before you grumble under your breath about a full moon happening soon, which remus happened to pick up on with his sharp hearing. “do you not like the full moon?” remus asks before he could stop himself. after some silence where you glance at him briefly, you finally explain yourself, “it gets in the way of the stars…” he huffs a lighthearted laugh and grins at you, the quirk of his lips and the asymmetrical dimple on his cheek making your heart pound strangely, “yeah, it’s a real shame…” 

iv. the third encounter the two of you share was after that full moon, where all your friends had left for Hogsmeade and you decided to stay in Hogwarts for some peace and quiet, softly humming your favourite ABBA song to yourself — it was yet another secret you kept from your pureblood family and friends.

v. “ABBA, huh?” you jump in your shoes and swiftly turn to stare wide-eyed at the scarred but still terribly handsome gryffindor prefect, “you have good taste,” his lazy grin and genuine compliment makes your cheeks heat up and you huff before turning to leave, “wait! can you umm–... can you help me to the hospital wing?” it was then that you realise how he seems to be leaning against the wall for support and silently wonder where the rest of his friends are; they’re usually thick as thieves, “they’re doing something else for me right now…” he answers, observant enough to see the question in your eyes. 

vi. you were reluctant but helped him to the hospital wing anyway, where Madame Pomfrey hurriedly gets him settled down, tutting at his sheepish grin and moving about around him as if it was a common routine for her. it spiked your interest when you see him settle into a bed and sigh. you wonder if he comes her very often…it would make sense, seeing as he has many scars decorating his skin. the feeling it gives you to imagine him consistently injured was somewhat painful and showed on your face easily. “Thank you for worrying about me,” remus says, pulling you out of your internal ramblings. “i’m not worried!” you huff in denial before quickly getting up to leave.

vii. remus smiles fondly as he watches your figure hurry away, a warmth blooms in his chest as he sees flashes of your visage in his head, cute and sweet and terribly tempting. he wonders if you managed to see the little note he left in your book yet…

viii. since everyone was in hogsmeade, it didn't take long before you finally found some peace so you could return to reading your muggle physics book again. you couldn’t wait to savour the knowledge written inside and eagerly read through the pages again until you came across a small note with neat but flourishing penmanship scrawled across it. ‘I like physics and space too, you’re pretty cool,’ it read and you blush because the only other person you know who’s had your secret muggle book in their possession was remus lupin

Try #2 wording the Hunger AU questions I want to ask, let's see if this one also ends up with me giving up and giving tidbits instead. XD

The quick, TL;DR version: I'm curious about the characters' backstories before fic's canon/Hermitcraft canon.

The very long version: MCYT fandom is in this weird ambiguous area where you *technically* have access to a lot of info from the content creators' IRL lives and their past SMPs/Let's Plays/etc, but how much of that factors into any one fic's canon changes depending on the author. Each author has different levels of how much "canon" (SMPs, Let's Plays, etc) they've had time to watch, how familiar they are with IRL stuff, how comfortable they are incorporating IRL stuff into their fic, whether everyone is a basic player or whether you have players who are avians or vexes etc., or a variety of other things. Each fanfic author has their own version of canon, and none of them are really wrong, because canon itself is kind of fluid.

Originally, I started asking a bunch of little questions (Are Scott and Jimmy exes? Does Grian still have a biology degree, or something like it? Is Scar still afraid of snakes (and if so, does that fear of snakes also mean a fear of worms)? How close were Grian and Mumbo pre-Hermitcraft (because fanfic and IRL episodes seem to often have different opinions on that)? Does Pearl still turn things upside down if they're in a virtual world where Australia presumably doesn't exist?) However, as I was looking at these questions, I realized it wasn't so much that I wanted like concrete answers to each one, so much as like ... I wanted more of an idea about the characters backstories. Right now, we're very much in Grian's head, and he's not exactly in a good enough headspace to be thinking that much about his own pre-Watcher past, much less anyone else's past. I assume it will be awhile until the fic gets into a place where we can find out some of this info without it feeling awkwardly jammed in, so I just kind of want a better idea of where each character (or at least, Grian + Grian Retrieval Squad) is coming from.

Like, you mentioned all Hermits except for Joe and TFC were spawned, not born, but as examples to show what I mean: how old were Grian & co when they spawned? Did they spawn in a single player world (which I think is implied from how you said single player worlds are formed around players, correct me if I'm wrong) or a multiplayer world? Did they have anything like caregivers/guardians/non-blood-related family when they were younger? What was their first multiplayer experience like, and how'd they find Hermitcraft? What education did they have? What led them to becoming redstoners (Tango and Mumbo), builders (Grian, Scar, and Pearl), or admin (Xisuma)? How did Grian meet Mumbo and/or Pearl? (Reminder, these are just examples of the type of info I'm curious about, not looking for each one to be answered specifically.)

So yeah, basically, not really any specific questions so much as "character backstory info please? *puppy dog eyes*"

OHHH MAN i will fully admit i havent done a ton of research into cc histories and previous smps etc etc-- i know some stuff thru fandom osmosis, but i dont know a lot of details (hence why i find your tidbits really neat!!!!!) and so unfortunately i dont have,,, the most detailed or even semi-detailed answers for this rn 😭😭😭😭😭

I can however offer that i do tend to sorta cherrypick and meld some irl cc stuff with the characters sometimes as almost easter eggs??? So like with the Mumbo and Grian stuff, i'd want to sorta glance at the dates on those irl eps vs the dates of the Evo eps and base backstory stuff of that!!! Basically in short, i'd need to actually do a bit more research and figure out how i want to incorporate things before fully committing to anything just yet!!! Im sorry i dont have a better answer for you 😭😭😭💀💀💀💀

hi! thank you for writing your posts about writing/drawing disabled characters and amputees. my ask might be kinda niche so if you don’t feel comfy answering i understand!!

in the story im writing (its contemporary fantasy, like magic exists in a modern setting) one of my characters gets severely injured in a battle/monster attack and loses his leg above the knee. he’s not the protagonist but the close friend/love interest btw. a lot of the story takes place during after his injury heals and he starts using a prosthetic (there’s a time skip so we don’t see all of his healing journey but some of it will definitely be there).

his character arc isn’t really tied to his disability at all, its just there. he copes with it and moves on pretty easily. my protagonist, however, feels a lot of guilt over it because he got in the battle/attack because of her. a lot of her arc has to do with overcoming trauma because she got her sibling killed in a monster attack and feels a lot of guilt over it. a lot of that same guilt comes up because my protagonist and her li got in a fight about her keeping secrets from him and it resulted in the battle/attack that caused his amputation.

i want to emphasize in my writing that the protagonist isn’t guilty because he lost his leg — but that he got hurt at all. she was raised to protect people from monsters etc and she failed, and not only that but she failed her best friend. she doesn’t think of him as weaker for it once the initial wound heals, just guilty that he had to go through any pain at all. and i want to make sure that my writing doesn’t portray him as weaker because of this either. disability doesn’t make you weaker, it just means you have to adapt to situations a bit differently than another person might. my story includes a lot of fighting both physically and magically (though he isn’t a magic user) and he’s one of the most talented characters when it comes to fighting so i want to make sure that’s emphasized

im actually disabled myself, though my disability is very much invisible. so im still unsure of how to approach this because i want to be as respectful and realistic as possible. im sorry if my rambling didn’t make any sense, but if you’re able to give me any guidance at all (not just my specific ask, but anything else generally you haven’t covered in other posts yet) id greatly appreciate it :)

So what you described sounds fine to me, the only thing you need to be careful of is not going too far in the other direction and making the LI's amputation have no impact/too little impact. Disabilities like amputation are still disabling, they will have an impact and make some things harder, just not to the extent/not in the ways most people expect. It's about finding a balance!

On top of that, you also have to be mindful of how non-disabled people will read those interaction too. This goes against a lot of standard writing advice, but I've found, if you're going against a trope about disability specifically, becuase most people are so uneducated about the topic and yet have very strongly-held opinions anyway, you really have to spell things out lol. You might intend for it to be read as "she feels bad he was hurt at all/that she failed her job" but a lot of non-disabled readers do tend to add the "becuase he's disabled now and that means his life will be shit" onto it even if that's not at all what you were saying. It's very frustrating, and something that took me a really long time to learn how to avoid when I used to post my writing online lol. Beta readers and sensitivity readers are a good way to measure if you were clear enough there though.

and to be clear, not saying either of these things are something you're doing, just things to be cautious of.

I MAY HAVE A LOT OF FUN WRITING THIS SO IM SORRY IF IT GETS TOO LONG - EJ and GA, as the owners of an independent newspaper, do not get much free time of their own. When one goes to investigate for it, the other is busy writing, and vice versa. But when they do have their free time... EJ never has a break in her mind, always occupied by her revenge plans or by caffeine (trust me, she's very much the coffee loving type. helps her stay awake at nights), and if it isn't that, she's doing stuff around her and her moirail's apartment, mostly cooking and tending to her secret gardening hobby by caring of the plants her writer partner gave her. GA on the other hand... She gets out of the house, stays in some library and enjoys her time looking at the beautiful crime-ridden streets of Midnight City from the windows, while reading or writing something. Their lives are simple when they aren't involved in some heavy crime investigation. all of this considering that they're spending their time alone, of course, or else they'd be doing different activities. EJ would be pointing a gun at a detective, and GA would be busy being lovely with a mobster. such is the way of the journalists. - For ages, I'm not sure yet but theyre very much in either their 30's or 40's, EJ being a little bit older than GA (though, despite their similar ages, a human GA would look.. younger than expected, but still having marks of age and scars around her body.. Oh i wonder who did that to her) - They were both cloned! Despite living the most important parts of their lives in Midnight City, they're originally both cloned carapacians coming from Derse and Prospit! (i've probably told you about their pasts in there before... if i haven't send an ask! and also i probably misunderstood this question.. my brain has been a mess lately so feel free to resend if i didn't understand it lol..) - GA's favorite animals are owls, EJ prefers plants over animals (but if she had to choose.. probably secretary birds)

This might be a strange question, but kind of goes along with your post about Rick killing people. do you think Rick shows mercy?

oh god, im so sorry anon, this ask COMPLETELY slipped through the cracks for me.

BUT!!!! GOD, is that a fascinating question!

Because yes, to a certain extent, he does. Rick is capable of mercy, and even empathy to a lesser extent. he is capable of care, of going out of his way to care for people he doesn’t necessarily feel he should. (I AM talking about ppl outside of the Smith family, lol, even though they definitely fit that criteria too.) we see that in the episode “The Old Man and the Seat” with Tony and the lengths Ricks goes to bark at him, but never quite bite. the whole episode is Rick trying to look big, to seem intimidating and like a threat that he really should be, considering everything we’ve seen him do— but for whatever reason, it’s apparent that Tony is not the sort Rick can bring himself to treat cruelly.

and then it becomes clear that this isn’t a phenomenon in the weird Shakespearean play that is Ricks life! it’s something that has happened many times. in fact, it’s revealed that Rick has a whole chamber, or some otherwise “secret” room, full of people he traps in “Globaflyn” to keep them simultaneously in their ideal world and out of Rick’s life. which also demonstrates some severe control issues, but that’s for another time. I’ll stop legit explaining the whole episode, but I will also mention that that plot line ends with Rick trying to comfort Tony’s father a the funeral, and then ends with what is probably the most emotional scene of a character sitting on a toilet.

I bring all this up mostly to ask this: okay, Rick is capable of showing mercy, but what exactly triggers it? what specific aspect of a person needs to be present in order for Rick to show this quality?

and I think the answer is pretty simple: relatability. someone who he feels a personal kinship to. who mirrors him in some way.

and despite how distant of a person Rick is and tries to be, it makes a lot of sense. in an infinity of infinity, it makes sense that Rick would run into the occasional person who is a bit too much like him. someone who, if given the opportunity, could understand Rick a bit too well. considering that Rick has been just about everywhere, it’d be stranger for him not to. and Rick, predictably, is very uncomfortable with that notion. both in terms of bearing the concession of actually seeing another person and having that person see you. it disturbs Rick. it makes him want be kinder, to be merciful instead of defaulting to violence to get rid of most inconveniences, to lessen his grip on this multiverse-level rope in his fight for control— but he’s not ready for that type of change. or at the very very least, he wasn’t ready yet.

it’s so interesting because he is clearly self-aware of how deep his desire for connection is, so deep that it threatens to overtake his need for control— so he merely eliminates those numbers from the equation for himself, albeit in a way that is far more compassionate than Rick tends to go for. his controlling nature just barely takes priority over all else, so he ensures that it stays that way.

side note: where does Birdperson fit into this? well, i think this reveals a very interesting part of their relationship too. because I think Rick let BP(and even squanchy ig) get so close because, ironically, he thought BP couldn’t get close. because he and Birdperson are pretty damn different people, especially in Ricks mind. so Rick thinks they can’t understand each other because they can’t really relate to each other. Rick is loud, destructive, and allergic to all things emotional and vulnerable. Birdperson is quiet, just, and has a certain emotional intelligence to him that implies a deeper knowledge of how people work. and then their backgrounds are pretty different, too.

though it makes me wonder: is Rick aware of how much BP truly understands him? would knowing that change anything for Rick if he hadn’t known? or, is Rick fine with him having such a solid read on him simply because in this situation he isn’t forced to do any emotional labor of his own for BP? sure, he can care about/ love BP, but he doesn’t have to understand him because BP also doesn’t understand Rick! he can experience the more pleasant sides that come with emotions and love without compromising his sense of comfort and what he calculates as his safety. well, that was until he was (arguably) willing to at blood-ridge. but the thing Rick missed there at the battlefield is that BP already understood Rick as a person at that point. and he also understood the damage Rick would inadvertently do if Birdperson took him up on his offer. i do think that Rick has at least somewhat reverted back to that mindset of “we can’t understand each other because we can’t relate, so I’m safe!” current-day, however. personally, I honestly don’t think Rick really realizes how well Birdperson truly knows him, but ultimately; who really knows, huh?

I have seen people make very compelling arguments for this one and I respect it greatly, but I have a hard time spinning it up mentally personally? I can see it, but I just haven’t written Quackity that way very often. Still waiting for that one fic to convince me. :D

Ohhhh benchtrio. This is one where like, there’s the canon dynamic, and then there’s like four different fanon dynamics, and my feelings on them vary a lot. I feel like in canon they went through some really traumatizing stuff so young, and there’s no way for that not to leave a mark in you. The people you went though hell with at seventeen will be with you for the rest of your life, even if you don’t speak. And like, as a group in canon, I see them more as like a set of three duos rather than one trio.

In fanon though, sky’s the limit, I have very much been convinced in some fan works that they are each other’s GUYS all as a group. I think they should be the trio of roommates that live down the hall that got a couch stuck in the staircase and you know two of them are dating but you’re never one hundred percent sure which two are the ones dating, because they all have something more strange and terrible than simple romance going on. They’re blowing up buildings. They’re committing marriage fraud. They did terrible science in the bathroom. They adopted a very cute hairless cat. They’re on the run from the cops. They killed a man. They’re living their best lives.

Emduo oh my emduo.

I could go to other fandoms but they don’t have emduo so I guess I’m stuck here for life. My GUY, my guys, my favourite guys. I’m so normal about them. This is a thing where I respect everybody’s right to headcanon and dynamic as they wish, but also prevailing fanon makes me cry and sob and throw up, because I have done my due diligence and put in the work and like 99.5% of the time you cannot convince me of these guys as a father-son pair. Some people have pulled it off, but as a general rule, I’m just not clicking through on the fic any more because I’m just there weeping about where my BROS where my BATTLE BUDDIES are at. So, y’know, finding fan content is a trifle difficult for me. But the good thing is I just get to write them myself, so I can just keep doing that and I’m happy.

I have been variously convinced of them in various different non-family dynamics— I think someone described this duo as a Swiss Army knife of relationships? No matter the situation, you can put an Emduo there! Like, QPRs tending romantic, QPRs tending platonic, Epic Friends, Work Buddies, Morails, Romantic, Respected Enemies: I’m good with the whole spectrum there as long as you can convince me that they’re important to each other (and that they’re not related). But, y’know, as long as you make Techno funny and Phil swear I’m probably there anyways. Ueueueueueueueue. I need to go write them again actually right now.
