VIGILANTES AU- THE PAW SQUAD
(You guys have no idea how close I was to calling them the Paw Patrol, be glad I’m calling them this because I was running out of ideas)
(Also this AU takes place after Kuro Neko and Penalteam BUT before Risk and will divert from there).
-So Chat Noir and Miss Hound have seperate themselves from the Miraculous Team and have decided to create their own dynamic duo, now what?
-OUTFIT CHANGES, OF COURSE!!
-Since they’ll be moving in the shadows, they chose less eye-catching, darker colored, and concealing clothing to move around in (especially since they’ll be patrolling more at night.)
-Because of this, their clothing resembles civilian attire more than the skin tight bodysuits the Miraculous Team wears.
-Adrien being Adrien, decides to go all in and make his new persona the ‘broody edgy loner’ type. He even changes his name to DARK SHADOW (deep baritone voice), he usually goes just by Shadow. (Adrien is a 15 year old, what do you expect?). Only this is Adrien we’re talking about, so it just makes him look angsty emo rather than menacing.
-Adrien thought about dying his hair, but then he remembered A) he’s a well known model whose fans can sniff him out right away, he’s not taking any chances B) his father would kill him if he found out and C) Plagg can just make his hair change a different hair color in transformation so no dye is actually necessary.
-Sabrina doesn’t change much besides making it darker, adding more pockets, and making it easier to walk along difficult terrain. She goes by Collie (like Border Collie). A more simpler change for a simple girl.
-The two don’t rely on their baton and ball alone as they now have belts with gadgets to their suits. (Chat jokes about having alligator repellent in case any swim into the Seine).
-Adrien had to bribe Plagg with a whole wheel of Camembert into adding claws to his new suit. This allows him to effectively climb and grapple onto walls more easily than before.
-At first, no one actually believes Shadow is the real Chat Noir or Collie used to be Miss Hound, they just think they’re copycats or over enthusiastic fans of the heroes doing some good around Paris. And then Ladybug goes on the air about Chat and Miss Hound’s ‘retirement’ (her doing crowd control) and it clicks in some of the minds of the people he’s recently protected.
-Chat’s departure does not go well especially with fans of the Ladynoir ship and many people are asking questions as to why the sudden change for Chat Noir to do (he’s not commenting as he and his partner run away at the sight of cameras).
-Their crime busting seems to have attracted unwanted attention from the criminal underworld. Some don’t like that nosy superheroes are getting involved in their business.

WIP reblog game
I got tagged by @chaos-has-theories and @into-september. Sorry for the delay in doing this, I just forgot about it.
If you're like me and you have a million WIPs and are anxious about updating them, play this game!
List the titles your top five priorities for WIP updates (link your fics for new readers!)
An upcoming scene, event, or detail in each fic that you're looking forward to writing
Bonus: make a poll for your followers to vote on which top 5 WIP they are most excited to see an update on!
Then tag 10 writer friends!
Let's start with the stories. So, I don't trust myself with multi-chapter stories, it takes me forever to write one-shots already, so (almost) none of these are out yet. You can read the ones that are out over here.
Operation Multifail. Three-chapter story where Marinette tries to convince Chat Noir to stop thinking about Multimouse by fighting as Multimouse, badly, on purpose, so he'll think she's incompetent. It doesn't quite work out.
Kwamidaddy Adrien. Assumes Marinette is the guardian. For reasons, Chat Noir has to take the Kwamis for a while. They all promised not to tell him anything about her private life. Shouldn't be a problem, right? This one may also end up being like three chapters
Chlogami Sabrina's Wedding. I think I posted a rough outline for chapter one here: It's Sabrina's wedding, and drunk ChloĂŠ confides in also-drunk Kagami about her complicated relationship to Sabrina, how she's happy for her but also jealous but also knows that because of their baggage, it could never work, while Kagami also has feelings about Adrien's and Marinette's upcoming wedding. I have like half a first draft of a first chapter here and absolutely no clue where this might go next.
Wings AU - Learning to Land. So there's a wings AU concept for Miraculous that keeps coming up every now and then. A bit too angsty for me, but when I first heard it, I thought it was a fun idea to talk about aerodynamics and world building in that context, specifically where Marinette teaches sheltered Adrien how to fly.
Plagg Interview. Now we're deep in the dregs, I picked a folder at random. Alya publishes interviews with someone close to Chat Noir's thinking. That someone: Plagg, who has been bribed with cheese. Marinette is not happy, but she can't say anything because Alya can't learn she's Ladybug. Yeah, this one's been sitting in my folder for a while. As have the others. Probably a one-shot.
Stuff I'm looking forward to in each fic:
The whole thing is based around big action set pieces. Three big Akuma fights, one in each chapter, which Marinette tries to fail at in different ways, and fails to fail, so to speak. I have no idea how to write these well, but I think that can be fun. Super-unpopular opinion: Fanfiction has way too much angst and romance and not enough action, and I'm definitely part of the problem myself.
Adrien interacting with the Kwamis who imprint on him as their father should be really adorable. As should the Kwamis trying their best to get Adrien and Marinette to marry (without revealing too much (they will reveal too much)).
Writing the banter between ChloĂŠ and Kagami is fun. I want to write more of it. I can definitely see someone taking that concept and turning it into, for lack of a better word, "normal long fic"; you know, thirty chapters, misunderstanding, they take a trip for a few chapters and return, so on and so forth. I'm not doing that, I don't have the work ethic and it's not actually my favourite genre of fanfic anyway. But what else could this story be? Figuring that out is an interesting challenge.
Aerodynamics! Learning to land! How do you learn to fly in a Wings AU? What does "rich kids aren't allowed to fly" mean for the world building? I don't have a story here at all but I do like the setting.
Plagg and Alya scheming together should be gold. Plagg trying to barter with a Marinette who can't reveal she's the Guardian has also a lot of comedic potential. Plagg trying to teach both of them how much Adrien needs them could be very emotional. Just Plagg.
Also, do you have any title ideas for any of these? I think Operation Multifail is good, the rest are just literally the file names I chose when I started with these projects.
I am tagging, very much at random, @sizzleissues, @pauliestorylover, @oblivionhold, @wrw47, @precious-notes, @kyuunonana, @aidanchaser, @aanabear2803, @valtionrautatiet-official and @cosmiccarrotcake. The requirement for inclusion was "I found you in my activity view in the past three months", so if you don't know what fanfic is, or don't feel like doing this, do feel free to ignore this.

I offer some more.

"Aha!"
Marinette stood back, triumphantly, looking over her latest creation with pride. Tikki hovered by her side, looking over Marinette's latest creation with horror.
"Marinette, what is this?"
Marinette beamed. "It's my plotting board!" she announced emphatically. "Chat Noir wanted a fight, did he? Well now he's got one!"
Tikki sighed. "I'm sure he doesn't want a fight, Marinette. Perhaps you should consider talking this out-"
"Huh? Sorry Tikki, I couldn't hear you," Marinette said, earphones in her ears. "I'm too busy picking out the perfect music for my victory dance when I finally get even with Chat Noir."
Tikki sighed. She was the embodiment of creation itself, she could handle this...
"Marinette, perhaps this was all just a big misunderstanding! Maybe it would be best if you approached Chat Noir with your concerns and asked for an explanation!"
"Hm..." Marinette hummed, finger tapping at her chin. "You do have a point..." Tikki exhaled in relief.
"Nope! He knew what he was doing! That smug look on his face, that catty grin... I've seen it a thousand times before! But I won't let myself get pushed around by some catboy in a clown costume!"
Tikki took some deep breaths. All that time spent learning calming techniques from the Guardians to deal with Plagg certainly were paying off.
"But Marinette, Chat Noir has only ever been nice to anyone! Why would he insult you?"
Marinette scoffed. "It's all part of the act, Tikki! He thinks he's so slick, parading around with those deep, soulful green eyes and that cute, boopable nose, making everyone believe he's a great guy and all. But I won't fall for it! Not me, nuh-uh, no siree! I've seen right through him, as I do. And I know just how to deal with it!"
Tikki almost dreaded to ask. "What're you going to do, Marinette?"
Marinette smirked. "Heh heh heh," she laughed, and Tikki hated herself for being curious. "Elementary, my dear Tikki! Step 1: I'll make my way to a random yet inconspicuous rooftop as Ladybug. Step 2: I'll wait for Chat Noir to show up. Step 3: I'll start recording on my phone. Step 4: I'll jump off the roof. Step 5-"
Tikki's eyes had almost bugged out of her head. "J-j-jump off the roof?"
"Yeah! That way, Chat Noir will have to save me. Pay attention Tikki!"
Tikki lost all her will to keep herself in the air and dropped to the floor with a soft thud. She cursed softly at not being granted the fortune of falling unconscious, all while Marinette continued to ramble on, unaware of her kwami's depleting will to live.
"Step 5: Chat Noir won't be able to resist insulting me! He's already shown a lack of self-control when it comes to that, and I'd have just annoyed him by causing trouble. And I'll have it all on video! Step 6: I get Alya to post it to the Ladyblog. Step 7: Chat Noir, exposed! Step 8: Adrien gets so impressed by my masterful plan that he falls in love with me, and we get together and get married and live in a beautiful house and have three kids and a hamster named-"
"MARINETTE!"
"What?"
"You need Chat Noir to defeat Hawkmoth, remember?" Tikki asked, though her voice was slightly muffled from where she was still lying face down on the floor.
"Pssh, that's easy. He can keep it! You don't need to be liked to be able to help me out! Or you can just choose a new Chat Noir! One that's nice and heroic. Like Adrien! He'd make a great Chat Noir, and he'd be a much more handsome one too." She sighed. "Oh, Adrien..."
Tikki longed for the sweet release of the loss of her corporeal form.

Adrien was a having a day.
He'd woken up five minutes later than usual. His attempts to bribe Nathalie with camembert for her discretion had failed spectacularly, and his father had thereby decided to forgo the monthly five minutes of time he granted his son.
"Sir, today's the day your monthly five minutes with your son are scheduled for," Nathalie had reminded him earlier that day.
"Can't you see I'm busy, Nathalie?"
"Sir, he'll be very disappointed if you don't show up."
"Hm, yes. Tell me, what microscopic, insignificant mistake did he make today? Make something up if you have to."
"He woke up five minutes later than usual. It did not cause him any delays."
"Perfect. He has utterly disappointed me, and for that he will not see me today."
"...Very well, sir."
"Now leave me be. I must perfect my evil laugh."
But on the bright side, the Gorilla had called in sick. Adrien felt bad for him, but he got to walk to school instead of travelling in that car. His father often travelled in it, and as a result, it stank of suffocating perfume, the ones his father had concocted.
"What's with the happy smile? I thought you'd be disappointed that your father refused to acknowledge your existence once more."
Adrien beamed. "I'm totally and utterly distraught about that!" he laughed, doing a little twirl. Plagg, despite himself, felt a little unnerved.
"So... what's with the goofy grin?"
"Don't you remember, Plagg? Ladybug called me cute yesterday!"
"Huh?"
Adrien sighed. "She told me that she saw a cat that was cuter than me! It means she thinks I'm cute! Not as cute as that cat, but it's something, and I'll take it!"
Plagg sighed. "I think we have two completely different understandings of what happened back there. Whatever, give me Camembert."
Adrien reached school, and made his way over to Nino to receive his daily hug and words of affirmation. "You. Are. Kenough," Nino told him today, hands on his shoulders, eyes staring right into his own. Adrien sniffed, feeling a single tear roll down his face perfectly, shining as it reflected the light of the sun. Everyone in the immediate vicinity fainted, blinded by the glare.
A wistful sigh echoed from somewhere, followed by the thump of a body hitting the floor, and it sounded suspiciously like Adrien's very good platonic friend Marinette.
Adrien barely paid attention in class today, too busy doodling 'Adrien Agreste Ladybug' and trying to come up with names for their future hamster.
Somehow, the school day ended far too quickly, and Adrien was nudged out of a daydream about Ladybug showing up to see him at his house for ten whole minutes. Nino gave him an extra hug to compensate for his father's lack of attention.
Adrien took off before Nathalie could show up to come get him. He'd already jumped out of the window to be able to walk to school, he wanted to walk back too. On his way, he saw his lady swinging across the rooftops, heading in the opposite direction.
"There's no akuma, you don't have to-"
"Plagg, claws out!"
i think there should be more marichat enemy aus. i DONT mean marichat stories where ladynoir are enemies and marichat bonds. i mean actual marichat enemies where marinette and chat noir are actively trying to destroy each other’s lives. something goes wrong during evillustrator and somehow they both come out of it thinking the other hates them. the idea of chat noir hating her civilian self pisses marinette off so she decides to hate him too. marinette constantly has the upper hand here because ladynoir are still partners. chat noir does not understand why his lady is upset with him or why marinette is so mean.
meanwhile adrien is ABSOLUTELY terrified marinette will find out his secret identity and start going after him in real life too. so he avoids her at all costs. marinette is devastated by this and knows in her heart this is somehow chat noirs fault. meanwhile they are making out as ladrien.

i had ANOTHER dream abt miraculous ladybug and this ones a LONG one. it didnt have your artstyle but time paris DID have lovely architecture such as: the bigass hollow tree stumps in breath of the wild, u know the ones big enough to fit a shrine and a half. anyway, the final battle is Happening, people get to wonder if hawkmoth is gonna bite the dust in real time bc its being televised. this is all taking place smth like 3 yrs in the future from season 4 of the show. so theyre like uhhhh Older Teens and certifiably Tired Of All This Shit. so! at the bottom of one of those tree stumps, cat noir’s identity is going to be revealed! oh no!! hes in a #crisis of the soul mostly bc getting revealed would be Bad but also he doesnt feel like hes helping ladybug anymore. he doesnt feel trusted. a classic tale of the villain manipulating a traumatized teen. and ladybug (looking out over a roof and yelling at the top of her lungs) is like “ABSOLUTELY NOT YOU LEAVE MY PARTNER ALONE.” and bribes hawkmoth away by dangling her own secret identity in front of him like a worm on a hook. it works a little too well. her identity gets revealed! cat noir is safe but in the shuffle hes lost his miraculous and marinette picks it up. shes got both and puts them on. tikki and plagg are like “MARINETTE ITS SO DANGEROUS TO WEAR BOTH AT THE SAME TIME” and shes like “im going to punch hawkmoth in the face” and off she goes.
cat noir is nowhere to be found bc now hes adrian! and she doesnt know that! but he knows shes marinette! drama! so now ladybug is re transformed (without activating the black cat miraculous) and is whaling on hawkmoth. she crashes thru my house which is definitely not in paris and tells me and my sibs we have to get out NOW so we book it and its at this point the dream reveals to me that mylene’s mom is chinese and i sit there like Now Hold On A Minute and my mom says “i told u so!” and i tell her “you dont even watch the show???” mylene was wearing a green cheongsam. i don’t tend to ask questions. also by this point i made a mental note to tell u abt this bc it only gets more batshit.
ladybug told us (and everyone that was running away which was a lot of ppl) that if they find cat noir they shld tell him that ladybug loves him. then she has this Stellar idea. she finds nadja chamack and her camera (bc theres only two newspeople in all of paris and one of them runs reality tv) and is like “hi i need to get a message out to cat noir.” when the camera is situated on her (mind u ms chamack is VERY aware that this is her daughters babysitter and is currently holding hawkmoth in a chokehold) she says “im sorry cat noir. you believed in me and trusted me since day one and i couldnt extend you the same courtesy. i was wrong. there is no one else who can wield the black cat miraculous, no one else i would trust with the power of destruction. meet me at our normal rendezvous point so i can give back what is yours.” its all very heartfelt but undercut by the fact that hawkmoth’s bitch ass is shouting explicatives next to her. the fight resumes. she gets slammed into a wall á la every anime fight ever and manages to hide before getting to the roof where she’s waiting for cat noir. shes in a right amount of pain and tikki is running her mouth abt danger and injuries etc. marinette Will Not Move until cat noir shows up. and he does! adrian arrives! when marinette sees him she starts laughing and crying. adrian is rightfully confused. is this a good thing? is this a bad thing? did she hit her head? (yes to all 3.) marinette says “i have been in love with you since 10th grade.” (were they in 10th grade? i do not know.) adrian says “and ive been busy being in love with ladybug.” and then she apologizes again, gives him the ring back, they hug, kick ass and meet up in her room.
if it feels like we’re going rlly fast now its bc we are. the dream was pretty much a montage at this point. hawkmoth is arrested, the world knows who ladybug is, adrian is an orphan, nathalie is still sick, and marinettes parents r thinking that their kid has nearly died MULTIPLE TIMES and they never knew. also luka is under that bridge going “oh fuck.” marinette is in her room trying to explain what will happen next to alya and nino. alya says “i had to tell nino”and marinette says “i am beyond the point of anger. but whatever.” cat noir falls thru her sunroof and they hug (again, there was so much hugging in this dream to make up for the complete lack of hugging in the actual show) and alya + nino are like “uhhh awkward.” the last convo i don’t have quotes for bc at this point my alarm was ringing but it was something abt how marinette cant be ladybug or hold the miracle box and she wld want alya to be the holder but NINO knows and nino Cant Know. but cat noir doesnt want marinette to lose her memories! but People Know. the conclusion was they have to talk to chloe abt how to navigate paparazzi. this is my chloe-and-marinette-could-be-friends agenda. ok i think thats EVERYTHING. if u read all that godspeed, drink water. OH. FINAL THOUGHT. ADRIAN HAD LONG BEAUTIFUL HAIR WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ALL OF THIS. he had model-brand stubble and sharper teeth than he should.
sometimes I’m peeved that tumblr increased the character limit for asks to be higher than 500 characters, and other times I get
Tumblr media
1k word asks about miraculous ladybug dreams, and I think that’s beautiful
I do unironically love the part about Chloe helping Marinette navigate paparazzi, rip to her canon character development

I'm cancelling majority of Season 4 of Miraculous. INSTEAD...
Oh my gods, I just saw the trailer for 'Hack-san' and I AM SO ANNOYED RIGHT NOW!!!
As far as I am concerned right now, I will accept SOME parts of this season.
Telling Alya? Questionable but okay
Luka getting to know? This will help them in the future cuz Luka is awesome.
Chat getting sidelined? Heartbreaking but okay fine, I'll take it.
ALYA BECOMING LADYBUG? BITCH NO.
This show is about Ladybug and Cat Noir- Marinette and Adrien.
For me, Season 4 right now is gonna be Chat being heartbroken cuz wtf man, his lady is being distant as fuck. Being Chat Noir always gave him a sense of freedom, but now he feels more and more like Adrien as Chat as well, trapped and useless to everyone around him.
So my dude goes and tells Ladybug that he can't do this. It's too much and she has Rena Rouge, Carapace and the others to help her. He is not important anymore, so it'll be fine if he gives his miraculous back to her.
Ladybug is shocked. She never wanted this. The main reason she was staying away from Chat is because of all the mental damage she suffered from Chat Blanc, because them being close, them being in love, basically destroyed the world.
So she sits there and she listens to her best friend (cuz Chat is her best friend, not Alya, fight me Thomas Astruc) say that he is gonna leave her, and she just kinda freezes.
Chat being Chat, sees this and goes to her being like, "Milady are you okay "
and before he finishes, he sees that she is basically having a panic attack and she's not breathing (duh. The number of expectations this kid, YES KID SHE'S LIKE 14, has is heartbreaking and she's been bordering on Anxiety and Depression for too long) and has tears streaming down her face and Chat immediately goes and hugs her and helps her through it (Imma stick to the 5-4-3-2-1 technique cuz its been effective for me).
After that happens they finally show some vulnerability to each other, and Ladybug finally tells him about Chat Blanc and how she's basically traumatised because of it.
Chat is heartbroken.
He never thought that him loving Ladybug could have such drastic consequences, and so he asks her if she wants him away. She could choose another Chat Noir, but this time so the fate of the flipping world doesn't hang in the balance, and after like a few more hours of opening up to each other, they decide that Ladybug and Chat Noir will always be Ladybug and Chat Noir. Best friends, partners and each other's solace.
Nothing else. At least until Hawkmoth is defeated.
And so they both go home, and Marinette is finally at peace cuz her partner is her partner again and she doesn't have to do all the unnecessary crap of having new superheroes in every new episode.
Adrien on the other hand is defeated as fuck. My man is so sad and he doesn't know what to do. He can't talk to Nino about this, he can't talk to Alya about this (they're just not that close, honestly) and he doesn't know what to do.
So, he bribes Plagg with a wheel of Camembert and transforms before going to the one person he trusts as much as he trusts Ladybug (3 guesses who lol)
Marinette is a little surprised to see her partner less than half an hour after having a huge talk with him. Of course, Chat doesn't know that and he just wants a friendly face who he knows will listen to him without an ounce of judgement.
And so Mari invites him in for passionfruit croissants she definitely made for Adrien that morning and makes them both comfortable in her room.
And then Chat talks.
He talks about how alienated he felt, he talks about how scared he is and he doesn't stop talking to Marinette until they're both just wrapped around each other, asleep, leeching off of each other's warmth cuz getting up to take the blanket was just too much work.
In the middle of the night, Plagg detransforms and goes to the other Kwamis to look at these two dumbass kids, who have way too much weight on their shoulders.
As the sun rises, Plagg (after being told by Tikki to 'be subtle for fucks sake, Plagg') gently wakes Adrien up, and Adrien leaves a note for Marinette, thanking her for listening to him, and leaves again.
And then, they go about their days as usual. Go to school, fight Akumas side by side, with a little extra help from Rena Rouge and any other hero, but people in Paris can see that it's The Ladybug and Chat Noir team once more.
And at night if the two heroes spend a little extra time together, as Chat Noir and Marinette, then nobody knows about it.
ON THE OTHER HAND, Alya is getting a little annoyed (just like we did with her lol) and straight-up asks Marinette what was the point of telling her all this if she was just gonna use her as a sidekick and Marinette (who has a lot more confidence considering during day time Adrien boosts her ego, and at night Chat does it) just goes "cuz you are a sidekick...? Your job, along with every other hero I give the miraculous to is to help Chat and me." (is this a little OOC for Mari? I don't care lmao)
Alya bristles and goes on to make a series of bad decisions to prove that she is vital to the tram, but she only adds a lot of drama smh.
OKAY BACK TO CHAT AND MARI. Gods they are SO in love. These two fools really do friends to lovers properly and cutely. Mari unknowingly gets over her crush on Adrien, and develops one on Chat instead, never realising that she fell in love with the same idiot.
And Adrien? Gods, he doesn't know how he never SAW Mari. Funny Mari who always beats him in Videogames and always gives him the best food (cuz gabby is a dick and doesn't feed his son enough) and gives the best hugs and always comes to every single tournament of his to cheer him on and laughs at all his puns and talks to him every night until they fall asleep together, either in each other's arms or over the phone. (If you think Adrien didn't get another phone just so he could talk to Mari as Chat at night and to send her memes during his photoshoot, then you're lying to yourself, bestie.)
And so one night, they kiss.
And everything seems so, so right.
And then they both get an akuma alert so Chat has to go asap, and Mari quickly transforms to meet him. They get there, and Rena Rouge is there, but with different colours and Ladybug and Chat Noir are confused cuz you know.
This is their friend. Their ally.
And then Rena turns around and says,
"Hello, Marinette."
End of Season.
Okay yeah, thanks for reading that. If I ever get the time I'm making this a full fanfic hehe

Piggybacking off the disabled Adrien post: how would this effect certain plot points? I’m mainly going off of Stoneheart when thinking of changes.
Thinking of the series as a whole:
For one, it'd give a reason as to why Gabriel would be simultaneously overly controlling and also neglectful. It'd do more for the "sympathetic" angle the show keeps trying to take with him since his reasoning in keeping Adrien isolated would be more clearly and understandably to protect him instead of just denying Adrien any joy in life for no good reason, while his neglect of Adrien could be a result of his own obsession in trying to "fix" things and make them "right" (aka, bring back his wife and make Adrien healthy) that he loses sight of what he has as he keeps convincing himself that he can spend all the time he wants with his son "later", AFTER he's corrected what he sees as the problems and is able to have a "normal" family again. It'd show him being so focused on getting the power to achieve those goals that he's lost sight of why he's doing it in the first place and not realizing just how much is happening that he's missing out on in the process. It would be a major lesson for Gabriel.
Not saying it would mean he's a good father, mind you, but it would at least do more in humanizing him and allowing for him to be redeemable than this whole "over the top Large Ham can't keep his motivations straight" thing the writers have going. This way, we would have more consistency with Gabriel as a character and show him to have the motivation and intelligence to try to see his goals through while also showing he's human. Ultimately, Gabriel means well, but it's not helpful to Adrien or what he truly needs. It would also touch on the ableist perspective that someone with a disability needs to be "fixed" for them to be happy. Gabriel would ultimately need to come to terms with the losses and move on.
Secondly, it would allow an actual character arc for Adrien that isn't just about his love for Ladybug, him being the center of his own harem, or him being SAD all the time. Having him dealing with a disability would mean that the Ring would bring him ACTUAL freedom in a more real and sympathetic sense. Part of the reason sections of the fandom dislike Adrien and struggle to sympathize with him and his life is that for all intents and purposes, he's a rich, white, able-bodied, hot model boy that EVERYBODY, even the narrative, is clearly besotted with. While he seems to have a schedule, his room alone is so full to the brim with excess that it makes it clear he isn't hurting for entertainment or items. Basketball court, climbing wall, a computer with multiple screens. The fact that he was able to buy so much Camembert for Plagg starting within an hour of meeting him with no one so much as raising an eyebrow is telling as to his ability to make purchases without much question. Same with his attempts and apparent ability to bribe Plagg with rare and no-doubt expensive cheeses. And let's bear in mind that Camembert, while not necessarily expensive, does have a particular smell that some would find unpleasant. This is something Adrien has commented on in canon and given that he apparently carries a non-wrapped piece in his shirt for Plagg, it should reasonably be a problem, especially as Adrien is a model and public figure who has had to appear at various events...only for no one to at any point comment or try to limit how much he buys. This indicates Adrien has some measure of freedom where he's able to make decisions with little to no oversight.
While the show did have more instances where he's kept locked up at home in later seasons, the idea of Adrien being trapped in a bad home and using the Ring for "freedom" had been a fandom concept since season one. But the series proper hadn't done much to show any issues with him being trapped at home until later seasons and even then, hadn't done much WITH it other than use it as a way to make him look "sad" and play on the audience's sympathy. Ignoring, of course, that in the same episodes he's shown being "trapped", he also shows he's fully able to escape at any point he wants with no real issues or repercussions, showing that the real barrier is his own choice for inaction. It's the same problem with his general response to Chloe and Lila. And the justification that "he was abused and was raised to be non confrontational" only goes so far when canon doesn't show us that and even moreso in that we're able to see him fully be able to act and be capable of standing up to other parties (particularly Marinette/Ladybug). He has had multiple instances in canon of sneaking out, ditching his bodyguard, lazing around on a rooftop, or just manipulating to get away when he wants to, usually with no consequences. The only difference and the key seems to be that it's when he wants to. This picking and choosing of when he's going to be active vs passive is inconsistent, problematic, and gives the impression of Adrien being a self-serving hypocrite.
In this case with a disability, it would offer the reason canon Adrien seems to lack for his inconsistent passivity. It would make more sense for Adrien to not fight his father since his father's view of his disability would impact his own view of himself and his capabilities. Being a hero would allow Adrien a sense of empowerment and efficacy in his life that he had not had previously. It would give him more room for agency and growth since his passivity would be shown to be unhealthy and problematic. It would be a real FLAW for him, something he would have to actually work OVERCOME.
Third, this would change up the dynamic with Chloe. As such, it would allow better use of Chloe and do more with her friendship with Adrien. Much like Gabriel, Chloe could see Adrien's disability as a matter of him being weak and helpless, and that he NEEDS someone like her—or just specifically her to "protect" him. Given how much she hung on him in canon and how she tried to "take charge" at points (particularly notable once she became Queen Bee per Queen Wasp and that speech she made during Startrain), it would be in Chloe's character to try to keep him to herself with the excuse that she's watching out for him. She would be a lot like Gabriel that way. She would be convinced that she knows best and that as such, she's the only one who can help Adrien and make him happy. That it's for HIS benefit that she stay with him and keep everyone else away from him so it's just the two of them against the world.
As a result, part of the reason Adrien defends her so much would be due to this friendship and a feeling of obligation that he has to defend her because of how much she's done for him. It could be a level of co-dependency that they both need to break off from. Adrien would be better able to do so once he becomes more empowered and is more able to stand up for himself. Chloe, however, may trade one dependency for another as once Adrien starts slipping away from her, she could end up getting the Bee Miraculous and trying to use that and the power it gives her as a means of gaining/replacing the validation she feels she lost when she "lost" Adrien. She wanted to be Adrien's "savior" and now she's trying to be the city's "savior." It would explain the resentment she starts to gain towards Marinette (who she feels may be trying to steal her "spot" and take Adrien away from her) and later Ladybug, who in her way of trying to help would try to protect Chloe at a point when Chloe doesn't want to be protected and wants to be the one to do the protecting instead...which ends up kind of being a switch up of how she'd been treating Adrien and could be the epiphany she needs for a possible redemption. That her way of "helping" isn't necessarily always helpful to the person she is wanting to help and her way of treating everyone else is harmful.
This would be a valid plot point to help build up to Chloe's redemption. It would also potentially do so much more for their friendship instead of this back and forth amnesia both of them seem to have when it comes to whether they have no friends at all or if they each have just the other as their "only one".
Ultimately, this could help lead to a way of humanizing Chloe and allowing her to be redeemed. Without justifying her actions or giving her an excuse for her behavior. Without disregarding her hurtful antics.
Fourth, Lila. How much more frustrating do you think it would it be for someone with a disability that someone is faking a disability for selfish reasons? Adrien, of course, would need to sit at the front due to his physical issues, and would need to sit out at certain sports games. And how convenient it would be for Lila to suddenly have to sit out as well so she can stay with him and "keep him company". Adrien would likely become increasingly less amused. Perhaps less inclined to sit back and let her continue.
Another point of issue would be whether Adrien would still be a model in this AU. If so, Gabriel could be tailoring his brand and making Adrien the face of it still. But if not, there will be less reason for Lila to be modeling if he's not going to model with her.
There are more things that could result from this AU as well, but so far this is what comes to my mind.

Note
In your wish me away Au, could you add more to Gordon’s reaction to Batman suddenly appearing with a baby vigilante ???🤣 Oh and do Gothamites know about her??? If so how does the public perceive her??
Gordon is 1000% done with Bruce, and yes, in my version of things Gordon does know that Bruce is Batman though they never officially sat down and spoke about it, they both know that Gordon knows. So after the whole baby bug-hero flies directly into Batman while gleefully yelling "Daddy!" When Batman and Gordon were just finishing up talking on the GCPD roof about the latest in crime and what Gordon would appreciate help in, Gordon of course visits Bruce and everyone at Wayne Manor to get brought up to speed on the newest Wayne.
Once there he actually meets the little one, they called her Marietta, and he is even more horrified at how young she is and just seeing her not in her hero costume? Form? Whatever it was was daunting to say the least. It took everything in him not to outright yell at Bruce and Alfred right then and there with the baby there. Baby. Because that's what she was. A baby. And he thought the first Boy Wonder had been young...
"Before you say anything Gordon, please just listen. It really isn't...I don't...she has unconventional powers that she doesn't understand." Bruce had all but shouted as he picked up his newest daughter and held her close.
"So...she's a meta?" Metas were still a rough subject for both men...God, even calling Bruce a man was hard because in his mind, Jim would always see that ten year old boy covered in his parents blood, his eyes and soul faraway from everything.
"Not exactly. She's....she possesses magical abilities, and has...Christ I don't know how much I can say. I promise you James Gordon is trustworthy. He's kept the family "business" a secret from everyone, even his own partner and wife. It would be best for everyone if I could explain the whole story to him." Bruce had spoke like there were others listening in other than Alfred and maybe the boys. But this was Gotham so Jim was on high alert.
He however was not expected flying plushies that spoke to just pop out of nowhere, and he will deny to the day he died that he screamed before he pulled out his gun and shot at the red spotted one. Thank God nothing save for a broken vase happened. After a frankly, very long and disturbing talk about little Marietta Wayne, Jim was ready to go yell at a whole ass state in France. She was just a kid! A kid! And they treated her like that? They wished her away!?
It took longer for him and Marietta to calm down since she started to cry at his obvious distress. She had him hold her as she cried and told him not to be sad. Not to be mad. In her limited toddler talk...it was heartbreaking. It did nothing to waver his worry at the young one just randomly popping up at Rouge fights. She was a soldier once, she didn't have to be again, but like Bruce, Alfred, and uh...Plagg and Tikki explained, she didn't understand yet.
So Jim could really just grin and bear it and maybe try and bribe the small one with treats and toys everytime she appeared before him if he was talking to the "Dark Knight" or his associates. Well that was on him and he would gladly have Bruce be mad at all the sugar he was giving the kiddo rather than the father of so many being distraught or distracted by his baby being hurt.
When Marietta called him "Gampa Gordon!" Well he wouldn't change a damn thing that was for sure.

Adrien's Manipulation and How He Manipulates
As you can see, I have spoken about the things the ml writers have done and attempted to get away with however I never dug deep into how manipulative Adrien is and how he has manipulated people. I have provided real transcripts from the episodes. You can look it up yourself they're there for everyone to see.
In Malediktator (season 2, episode 24) Chloe threatens to leave Paris, Mr. Bourgeois gets akumatized into Maledikator; invested with absolute power, he wants to make his daughter's dreams come true so that she stays with him. In the episode, Chloe announces that she's leaving Paris to the entire school and the students are thrilled. They were celebrating the fact that their school bully was leaving Paris. Including Marinette, who was also relieved to know her bully/tormentor was leaving Paris. The same girl who's been bullying Marinette for years.
Here's some real transcripts from the actual episodes
ChloÊ: (from the helicopter, through megaphone) Hey there, losers! I'm headed to New York with my mom. (throws flyers) I'm leaving you all behind in your pathetic little school and your pathetic little city. Adieu!
(Marinette picks up a flyer showing ChloÊ in front of the Statue of Liberty.)
Nino: ChloÊ's leaving?
Nathaniel: Forever?
Marinette: Looks like it.
Alya: Yeah.
(Everyone jumps in the air out of happiness; confetti appears out of thin air and there are fireworks for no reason at all. Everyone, including Mr. Damocles, dances and parties.)
Marinette: Without ChloÊ around, Paris will be filled with a lot less negative emotion!
Tikki: And less akumatizations.
(Adrien walks up to Marinette from behind.)
Adrien: Hey, what’s going on here? What are we celebrating?
Marinette: Chloé’s gone! She’s moving to New York!
Adrien: Chloé left…? For good?
Marinette: (still excited, not realizing that Adrien is not sharing everyone else’s enthusiasm) Yeah! Isn’t it great?
Adrien: Uh… no. I think it’s terrible! How can you celebrate a thing like that?
Tumblr media
There
There's the manipulation. Adrien guilts Marinette for being happy that her tormentor is gone. He guilts her for being relieved to know that her school bully is leaving Paris. Not only did he make Marinette feel guilty for feeling the way that she did. But the episode also deems Marinette as if she's selfish for feeling glad that Chloe is gone. While Adrien completely invalidates Marinette's feelings, and does not take into consideration that Chloe has bullied and made Marinette's life a living hell for years. Adrien knows Chloe has been bullying Marinette for years and instead of letting her feel happy that her bully is gone he guilts her and shames her saying that she shouldn't be celebrating something like that. Not contemplating the fact that Marinette has been bullied, shamed, taunted, and tormented for years. All because Chloe's his childhood friend and she was his only friend. He continues to support Chloe, and guit-trips Marinette for being happy that her life-long bully is finally leaving, because he doesn’t care about how Chloe torments everyone in the class or how she’s literally abusing Sabrina, all he cares about is how her leaving affects him.

In Glaciator Chat Noir imposes a date with Ladybug.
Transcript
Cat Noir: So, uh, Ladybug? What would you say if you and I met up tonight for a little dinner? Rooftop style?
Ladybug: For dinner? As superheroes?
Cat Noir: Well, uh, yeah. That's right. We're only together when we're saving Paris. I mean, wouldn't you actually like to get to know one another?
Ladybug: I... That's so thoughtful of you, but I can't. I have to, uh, I already have plans with some friends.
Bus driver: (steps out of the bus and shakes hands with Cat Noir) Thank you. (shakes Ladybug's hand) Thank you, Ladybug.
Cat Noir: Well, if your plans end early, come and join me.
Ladybug: We'll see.
Cat Noir: I'll be waiting, my lady.
(Ladybug uses her yo-yo and leaves. Cat Noir smiles at her for a moment before he leaves too)
Ladybug tells Chat Noir that she has plans with friends, Chat Noir still insists that she comes if her plans end early. Ladybug never says yes to him nor does she confirm she will show up while he says he'll be waiting.
Alya, Nino, Marinette, and Adrien were planning on having a date together, Adrien lies to his friends and tells them that his father said he couldn't go. Actively upsetting them and ruining their date, because 'Oh! Poor Adrien couldn't make it!. The thing is-
Adrien could have made it.
He himself, chose not to.
He didn't even inform his father about going out with friends.
Adrien never mentions going out with friends to Gabriel. He never tells Nathalie nor the Gorilla anything just so he could prepare a date with Ladybug, who also never confirmed she was going on the date.
[Next transcript is very important to read]
(Adrien sighs before he takes out his phone to text Nino. He then checks the time)
Nathalie: There's no point in waiting for your father, Adrien. He'll be eating in his office.
Adrien: (stands up from his chair, quietly angry) Then what's the point of keeping me here if he's never gonna show up, Nathalie? (walks away to go to his room)
Nathalie: Don't forget to practice your piano before you go to bed.
He doesn't tell Nathalie or Gabriel. He tells Nino that he won't be able to make it because his father wouldn't allow him to, yet Adrien didn't even see Gabriel because he was in his office the entire time.
Scene: Adrien's room.
Plagg: You could've at least grabbed the piece of Camembert on that platter!
Adrien: (tosses a piece of Camembert to Plagg and he catches it) Fuel up, Plagg. (He turns on some piano music from his phone. He then places the phone on top of the real piano) Adrien may not be allowed out of the house, but Cat Noir is!
Adrien's off to his date with Ladybug, which she never agreed that she would come, lying to his friends and telling them that his father wouldn't let him go out with them.
Plagg: You seem in a hurry to get stood up.
Adrien: She didn't say she wasn't coming.
Plagg: But she didn't say she was either!
This is also important to take in mind, it doesn't matter if she didn't say wasn't coming, she also didn't say she was coming like Plagg said. She told him she had plans with her friends.
Scene: TrocadÊro. Marinette meets up with her friends
Marinette: Hey, Alya!
Alya: Hey, Marinette! (Both she and Marinette kisses each other's cheeks)
Marinette: Where's Adrien?
Alya: Don't get upset, okay? But Nino just got a text. Adrien's dad isn't letting him go out.
Again, Adrien tells Nino his dad won't let him go out. Lying and upsetting his friends, which automatically makes them feel bad because they're poor friend can't come out with them.
Marinette: Once again...
Nino: Yo, Marinette!
Ivan: What's up, M?
Mylène: How are you, Marinette?
Marinette: I'm fine. Thanks. Hehe. So, do you know where AndrÊ is today?
Later in the episode, they have patrol
Tumblr media
And this is what Chat Noir says to Ladybug
Tumblr media
Ladybug: Hello, Kitty. Did the bad guys leave you cold?
Cat Noir: (harsh and enraged) How was your amazing evening with your "friends"?
(Ladybug looks confused at Cat Noir, shocked by her partner's harsh words. But she gasps when she hears Glaciator's voice.)
He gets passive aggressive and sarcastic with her. He's angry because she didn't show up to a date she never agreed to going on.
[Transcript]
Ladybug: Are you mad at me because I didn't show up?
Cat Noir: (furious) What do you think?
Ladybug: I didn't mean to hurt you.
(Glaciator jumps over them and continues walking. Ladybug and Cat Noir take shelter behind a car)
Cat Noir: And I also had a surprise for you, too!
Ladybug: I really am sorry.
Cat Noir: No... I'm the one who's sorry. Maybe another time.
Ladybug feels bad for not showing up. Ladybug shouldn't have to apologize for not showing up. She never agreed to going on the date and Chat Noir knows that. He knows she had plans with her friends and guilts her because apparently she didn't show up to a date she never intended on going on. While he was the one who gave her the cold shoulder the entire time they were fighting off Glaciator and acted like a 5 year old child.
The blatant manipulation
Chat Noir guilts Ladybug because she didn't show up to a date she never agreed that she would go on. Resulting in her feeling bad and apologizing to him as if she said she'll go. She never confirms she'll make it. She tells him she has plans with friends and they'll see. That doesn't equate to yes. Adrien lies to his friends and tells them he won't be able to make it because his father wouldn't let him go out, meanwhile Adrien never tells Gabriel anything about going out with friends.
Tumblr media
In Syren
Adrien gets tired of all the secrets Ladybug had to keep from him and threatens to quit. Blackmailing Plagg threatening to quit as a superhero if Plagg doesn't tell him what secret Ladybug's been hiding from him.
[Transcript]
Adrien: (imitating Ladybug) Hey, Cat Noir, do you trust me? (as himself) Sure, Ladybug; do you trust me, too? (as Ladybug) Are you kidding? I will never trust you! Ha ha ha ha! (normally, to Plagg) You must know what Ladybug's hiding from me, Plagg.
Plagg: I'm just a kwami, Adrien, and we kwamis have a right to remain silent.
Adrien: Pity. (gets out his phone) Just when I was about to order you some very tasty cheese. Have you ever sampled La Trappe d'Échourgnac? It says here it tastes like walnuts.
Plagg: (swallows some Camembert) I can't be swayed, sorry.
He bribes Plagg with cheese to get information out of him about Ladybug
Cat Noir: Wait! Where're you going?
Ladybug: (hesitantly) I can't.
Cat Noir: (disappointedly) Say anything. Yeah, I know. But we are a team, aren't we? (turns away from Ladybug) I'm tired of all these secrets.
Ladybug: I'm sorry. It's not exactly easy for me either, trust me. (she leaps away while Cat Noir turns to see her leaving him)
(Cat Noir sits down on the roof to wait for Ladybug to return.)
He himself admits that he knows she can't tell him anything. He knows she's under restrictions and he pulls this.
Cat Noir: This is so dumb! (stands up) Claws in. (detransforms)
Plagg: (groans) What's taking her so long? (Adrien holds up his hands to Plagg, and starts to pull off his ring a little bit) Whoa, easy! W-What are you doing?!
Adrien: (grimly) If you don't tell me what Ladybug is hiding from me, I'm done!
Plagg: You can't do that!
Adrien: (bitterly) Why not? No one'll know if I quit. No one'll care!
Plagg: I will!
He blackmails Plagg, and threatens to let millions of people drown just because he wants to know a secret he isn't worthy of knowing.
[Transcript for Frozer]
Tumblr media
In Frozer he gets rejected for the hundredth time
Tumblr media
Ladyice: Cat Noir. We need to set up a trap for whoever turned the city into a giant ice rink. (throws yo-yo)
Icecat: (bitterly) My feline instincts prefer to track and observe before I attack. You go your way, I'll go mine.
Ladyice: Please don't tell me you're mad at me about the rose.
Icecat: There may be a certain chill now between us.
Ladyice: I get it, but we should really focus on saving Paris
Icecat: We don't always have to do everything together, after all. It's not like we're a couple. (skates away)
Ladyice: Cat Noir, don't get all pouty on me! (groans and takes off on her yo-yo)
(Ladyice and Icecat separately search for Frozer)
Icecat: (notices Frozer's skate marks on the ice) This way.
Ladyice: I need to set a trap, but what could I use as bait? (while Ladyice thinks, Frozer prepares to sneak up behind her, but Icecat spots him attempting to do so and pulls Ladyice out of harm's way)
Ladyice: Thanks, Kitty.
(Icecat winks)
Once again, he makes her feel guilty for turning him down for the millionth time in a row as if he doesn't know she's in love with someone else. Acting like an asshole the entire time they fight off Frozer.
Tumblr media
In Copyat, Chat Noir arrives at a ceremony.
Scene: The Place des Vosges. The ceremony has just ended.
Cat Noir: These statues are amazing. One thing's slightly off though— I'm actually taller than Ladybug.
ThÊo: Ladybug didn't show up. I just wanted to express my adoration for her. Let her know that everything I had went into her statue. I'm sure if she took a little time to get to know me, she would see how much we have in common. Our devotion to the things we love.
Cat Noir: Hey, don't mean to burst your bubble, but you know, Ladybug and me, we're a thing, you know?
ThÊo: Really?
Cat Noir: Yeah, we're like this. (crosses his fingers)
ThÊo: (growls; walks away angrily) What does Ladybug see in him?
He lies to Theo about the relationship he has with Ladybug leaving Theo angry causing him to become akumatized.
Tumblr media
Cat Noir: Better help the fellow out. His crush just got crushed. (under his breath, as he leaves) That makes two of us.
ThÊo: Ugh... What am I doing here? Ladybug?
Ladybug: I'm sorry I couldn't make it this morning, ThÊo.
ThÊo: Can you autograph it for me?
Ladybug: Of course I can! You've got some real artistry here. You've really captured my essence.
ThÊo: Thank you, Ladybug. And don't worry. I know about you and Cat Noir. It's okay.
Ladybug: Huh?
Ladybug is left to apologize to Theo and deal with the rest. Theo tells her not to worry, he knows about her and Chat Noir to which she reacts with utter confusion. Chat Noir lied to Theo, causing his akumatization not even facing consequences at the end nor apologizing to Theo, instead Marinette does all the work while being left confused.
Adrien is a lying, manipulative, and conniving person. He has manipulated his friends, Plagg, and Marinette. This is not okay
And the writers portray it to be while making Marinette look bad

It was always you
Hello everyone!! 😊
I’m a bit late but I really wanted to contribute to the @lukadrien-june event, I hope this is okay! Based on the third prompt, while throwing in some character study for sunshine boy! 💛
Enjoy!! 😙😙
Summary: Love was supposed to be easy, at least in his head. A pure perfect fairy tale... except it was not. Adrien takes probably more time to realize it than other people but he is getting there. Especially not alone.
Read it on the AO3 here
If there was one thing that Adrien wished he had known, before giving up homeschooling once and for all and finally starting to build a life, was that loving wasn’t nearly as simple and dreamlike as his extremely well-developed imagination had led him to believe. He truly wished that he could borrow Bunnix Miraculous sometimes, just to head back to that room where he used to spend his entire time on his own dreaming of himself and his soulmate and getting married at sight, and tell him that if living was hard outside, heart matters were even harder.
Love wasn’t that ideal, it wasn’t reductive.
It wasn’t nearly that basic either. It took him a while, but he had figured it out.
It had all started with Ladybug of course, most of his new experiences in the real world had started with her. He had fallen in love with her pretty much two days after meeting her… granted, being stuck into his own house for years thinking of himself as a poor prince in waiting of a savior rather than a knight out to get the princess, might had developed in him a bit of an eagerness for romance. She was smart, beautiful, courageous, resourceful and a hero, what was there not to love? Besides they were Chat Noir and Ladybug, they were meant to be… because… that was Ladybug. The moment he had realized how much he loved that image – if he used to fantasize before looked at him now –, and how he had started to slowly care less and less about knowing what was hiding behind it, that was the dealbreaker. He didn’t want to be in love with a figure, an icon for Paris, because it was what all people had always reduced him to. It would have not been a good way to start, and it would have not been fair for her either.
Getting over all those dreams about the marriage, the children and the hamster – oh the hamster, heart stay still – that he had wished for so intensely had been… easy? Not exactly, but smooth. A strong emptiness and pain that had slowly faded away with time. After all, Ladybug was never going to be far from him, and she cared about him a lot, he knew that much. He could love her, no matter what, no matter in what way.
After that singular and very one-sided experience, a spectacular sequence of disasters had made him slowly and steadily feel aware of how much messier the concept of relationships really was. One thing was dodging Chloe’s overly affectionate tendencies or his fans’ intense assaults over him; the other realizing that Kagami was ready to commit into something he wasn’t sure of, that Lila was still somehow convinced that he wanted something to do with her after all of her lies – for a fox this sly she sure was in denial… why did that sound hypocrite? –, and that Marinette had apparently harbored feelings for him almost as soon as they had met – oh yeah that was why. Life, a real, multifaced, worth living life was chaotic and confusing, it hurt, and it saddened, and he was behind everyone, struggling like mad to catch up.
Rejecting so many people he cared about had been awful. Some of his closest friends, all important parts of his life in different ways, and all because he wasn’t smart enough to understand feelings and his own clearly weren’t right. When Marinette had smiled at him with tears in her eyes, saying that it was okay and that she understood, Adrien had decided that it was enough. He wasn’t going to attempt anything else, if it always ended up with hurting someone he cared about.
He could deal with his feelings on his own, he always did, without paining anyone. There was no problem anyway, after Ladybug no one had ever shaken his heart.
No one, no one at all… and during that time, between slowly realizing that perhaps looking for wedding rings after two days sounded a little unreasonable and somehow managing to hate his face plastered all over Paris even more than before, the Music Festival had occurred, along with the awakening of Captain Hardrock. The famous tripping over the bridge had happened, a goofiness that had somehow gotten him into a band.
Him had happened. The charming, kind, intriguing guitarist of the Liberty, that had welcomed him the moment he had been there.
Luka Coffaine.
… Adrien was starting to hate his heart a little bit.
Luckily or unluckily, around that time he had found himself too caught up in his and other people’s messes to even realize how he had always unconsciously smiled at the boy whenever he was there, and how it had become normal for him to stay with him after band practice, without caring on how father could had reacted to his delay – just how dense was he about his feelings… never mind. It took Lila to finally focus on something other than plotting, Chloe to start paying attention to her own life instead of worsening others, and Marinette and Kagami to begin exchange sweet looks for him to finally find some normality to think – and develop an extremely intense fanboy soul.
Enough to realize that ever since Desperada, with the brilliant introduction of Viperion to the team, Adrien had found himself as Luka’s confidant, the only one besides Ladybug aware of his secret identity. Exciting stories, confessions, insecurities, all while the guitarist was making such an effort to communicate with words, because he trusted him enough not to judge his mind.
And Adrien was enjoying the confidence, the vicinity. A lot. Truly a lot.
… way too much for it to be normal.
It had woken him at night. He had teared up in his bed, curled on one side while Plagg had been purring next to his ear all night. It was the first time that being in love had felt this terrifying. He didn’t want to mess everything up, not again, not with Luka. The freedom he felt with being on the Liberty, the time spent with his friends in the band, the warming welcome he had always received from captain Anarka and Juleka – and by extension Rose, those two always came in pair –, and every single moment spent without having to care about who he was and what did he represent because Luka didn’t care about covers, he cared about the real music coming from people. Everything could disappear in a moment.
With that set of mind, he had spent some of the most tense moments of his life, constantly pondering about what to do next. What exactly was a person supposed to do if he liked another without making a mess? What was the alternative to confess his undying love and hope to plan a wedding at the end of his studies? Was there an alternative??
His anxious attitude had inevitably gotten the attention of his group of friends, that for some miracle hadn’t gotten tired of his denseness, especially Marinette. She hadn’t seemed to care much, especially not while distractively holding the amulet Kagami had made for her – somehow love life had made the fencer even deadlier during practice, like she was fighting was someone, impressive. It had taken them to bribe him with a new recipe of croissants from the Dupain-Cheng bakery to be forced to talk, a necessity that had exploded out of his lips the moment his friends had been gathered on Marinette’s bed to listen. The sweets had been amazing. Just a bit salty… but that was probably because he hadn’t been able to talk without tearing up all over the food.
At the end of the discussion, Marinette had squeaked so loudly his ears had started to ring.
“You have to confess and get together, you two would be a great couple!” To which he had responded that he didn’t want to risk it, especially since he didn’t know how it was going to end.
Alya had slammed her hands over her own knees – ouch –, standing up.
“You have to man up! Don’t think about what could happen, go for it and make him yours!” To which he had said that he didn’t want to be insensitive again in case it didn’t go well – also that that kind of wording was a little confusing, enough to turn him bright red.
Then Nino had looked up from his phone, looking a little baffled. He had changed too, considering that love matters used to make him all nervous.
“Why don’t you ask him out first and see how it goes from there? You don’t have to become boyfriends if it feels too soon.” The table had gone silent, all eyes were on the DJ, who simply arched an eyebrow. “… you do know you can go on a date with someone, realize that it’s not working without actually get together, right?” More silence had followed. Adrien was sure that he had felt a weird mixture of disappointment and relief, while Marinette had looked so very shocked.
In conclusion, Nino was amazing. Like that was new.
Starting from there the blonde had been practicing in front of the mirror every day, terrified of rejection but less tense over how things could go. Despite fans and admirers his past relationships, if those could be called, weren’t giving him much of a booster or a good feeling about how this chance was going to play. Somehow it hardly mattered. Luka was a very reasonable person, he was going to reject him very nicely. It had been almost uplifting the idea of the guitarist treating him with absolute kindness, even while shattering all of his dreams.
One day Luka had called him over for an improv session. It happened often, this artist was extremely instinctive when it came to music, and he had told him that having a more rational and accurate player like Adrien around grounded him to his usual style. It was flattering every time he was called for that same reason, it was an occasion that made the blonde ignore all about his current schedule – of course he was at fencing right now, Kagami could cover- uhm, confirm for him –, to finally focus on something that he really wanted to do. Luka was always waiting over the bed of his room, playing a few notes, stopping for minutes then going again. It was calming and endearing, like Adrien was allowed to hear the inside of his mind.
He had been standing there, legs crossed at the end of the bed while Luka was lying down with the instrument. There had been only sounds for all of this time, without additions or suggestions or anything. It was nice. Really nice. Adrien had wondered what else could he discover out of him just by stay close like this, and how much he wanted to. The need to let those words out had been steadily growing without him realizing it.
“Luka?” Until they were out. “Do you wanna go on a date with me?” Mirror practice had helped, it had come out almost mechanically. There was a spark into his stomach, the adrenaline pouring out. The melody in the air had stopped for a pretty terrifying second.
Then it had come back as a full, real song. It was timid, sweet, and sincere.
“I’d love to.” In his own giddiness, Adrien could admit of being wrong. Yet he was almost sure he had seen the calm and controlled guitarist blush the tiniest little bit.
A single date at the restaurant where Alya’s mother worked at without people in the way – he loved his friends so much – had followed another one walking hand in hand through Rue Montorgueil in disguise – at last he had achieved his long-lasting dream of looking like someone else without the mask –, that had followed another one at a secret party Chloe had organized at Le Grand Paris for her classmates – she had given him such a smirk at seeing his plus one, gossip was coming. It had nothing to do with the dates of his daydreams, the ones he had lived through his head for years: every single time his stomach was so tense it felt like it was burning, painfully, making him question if he really wanted this. Then, the moment they were there talking, engaging themselves into an interesting topic while letting time pleasantly leave them behind, the stress was gone and there were only the two of them.
They had gone like this for months. Some absolutely lovely months. At some point Alya, stopping him at school, had calmly stated that him and Luka combined with Marinette and Kagami were making her feel single, and she had a boyfriend, so it was probably time to make it official. He had agreed with her, of course he had. He liked Luka… yeah right, he loved him. Everything with him felt so real, so close and intense, like he was finally living.
His feelings weren’t the problem… Luka’s were.
Not that he doubted him. Not after all the little orange blossoms left over his keyboard before band practice – they meant eternal love, oh heart stay still once again –, the songs sung for him whenever he felt upset or angry at his father, or the hand kisses at the end of every single date, like he was being cherished every single time. One of the guitarist’s biggest qualities was his sincerity, Adrien was absolutely sure he could trust him and his heart. Just how he had never blamed anyone before, not Chloe, not Kagami, not Marinette, not even Lila, for their feelings towards him.
They had been real, like his own feelings for Ladybug used to be… but they were for Adrien only, the supermodel, Paris’ iconic pretty face and perfect boy. That perfection in him, one he had been forced to practice in order to please his father, that was attracted others, but it wasn’t in any way all that was in him.
What was all the rest? It was also there. But it came out only whenever he wore the mask.
With time, the image he had been forced to wear for the profit of his father had grown into an uncomfortable, old sweater that he hadn’t known it had felt unbelievably itchy until he got the possibility to take it off, to try something else. And that black-leather armor was his absolute favorite. Nothing felt like freedom as that, nothing felt like him as those moments, whenever he jumped into the sky holding hard onto his staff. Thanks to his Miraculous he had discovered himself. Thanks to that he had found out that he liked making jokes, he loved puns, he liked making a fool of himself for the sake to have fun. He liked risking, he liked dancing, he wasn’t too keen on closed places, and he absolutely loved how the moon reflected into the Seine at night after patrol. Everything was him, so vividly him it made him choke a little at the mere thought of it.
Adrien Agreste was another mask, one he was growing considerably tired to wear. He had been through some love experiences now, even though they did not end quite well: there was no point into pretending to be someone he wasn’t, there was no meaning into hiding himself when he truly wanted to establish a bond with someone. He had known this, he knew this.
But if everyone liked Adrien better… if Luka liked Adrien better, how was he supposed to do that?
The tension coming from those thoughts was there only when he wasn’t around his favorite guitarist, making him at least forget about the dilemma coming with. Even so, around those times he had found himself at least wondering exactly what kind of opinion his date had about Chat Noir. He wasn’t sure, they had never talked much in their superhero personas, because of the urge of the moment and because with his lady’s strategic mind and a power like Second Chance it was unfairly easy sometimes to solve the situation – Ladybug needed to start bringing Viperion more often and yes, maybe just a little bit to see more of Luka in sexy snake cosplay. He was fairly sure he didn’t mind him, he seemed to even smile at him sometimes – total heart eyes –, but he wanted to be sure.
It had been night at the Liberty, they had ordered pizza. Sugary drinks made Rose giggle like mad, so Juleka had brought her to her room to take a nap and probably cuddle, leaving the two of them alone. That wasn’t weird. Wondering if the guy Adrien was dating liked his cat counterpart, that was weird. At the end, looking at how relaxed the boy over the sofa was while distractively bending the last pizza crust, he hadn’t been able to do pose a potentially confusing question, asking instead what he thought about Ladybug – he had made a mental post-it to whine loudly into his pillow later.
Luka had brought up stuff he already knew, how she was a great leader, an inspiration, extremely smart and courageous. Despite the failure of questioning him Adrien had smiled, he was weirdly happy they thought the same about his partner.
“She has a huge responsibility and deals with it incredibly, that’s commendable… with that being said, my favorite is Chat Noir.” A boom inside. “He’s hot.” A second, bigger explosion had occurred into Adrien’s head – in a feeble spark of lucidity he had begged his brain not to produce smoke out of his ears. Luka had laughed, playing some more, without looking directly at him. “And he’s such a selfless, reliable person, you can tell from how he doesn’t hesitate to help others or support me or Ladybug. He’s incredibly loyal, and… really funny.”
It had taken perhaps a second too long, in which a thousand of tiny little Adrien running all over his brain had been screaming out loud hysterically about how this handsome guitarist was a Chat Noir fan, and it had been the best day ever. Then he had managed to talk, ask, his voice was a little raspy.
“You… you like his puns?” Luka had scooted closer to him, smirking a little.
“It’s our little secret.” With that he had put a hand around his shoulders, bringing him closer to him. The blonde had abandoned himself into the embrace, trying to hide the giddy smile in his chest.
It got easier to let himself go from that moment forward, knowing that at least some parts of Chat Noir Luka didn’t mind at all. Having Nino groaning like mad after they had all taken their matchmaker ice creams from Andre, with Adrien coming out with a “I scream for an ice cream”, had been worth it just to see the guitarist rolling his eyes with an endeared smile. It had felt good. He couldn’t fully let go, being a model and famous and all that baloney, but he could stop pretending for a moment and embrace a little bit more about himself.
It had hit him much later that perhaps, maybe, possibly, the matter of telling Luka about his superhero identity was meant to come up at some point. It hadn’t seemed an important matter before, he was not supposed to do reveal it anyway according to Ladybug. Then again, this wasn’t a relationship behind masks like that one, it was as open as it could be. Also Plagg wasn’t exactly the biggest fan or rules anyway, he had doubted he would have minded. Hearing Luka talking about his latest adventure with Viperion, basically summarizing everything Adrien already knew from his point of view, made him feel a bit guilty about not coming clean. Still, it was hard to recall that unpleasantness with Luka always ending the discussion making a comment about Chat Noir, probably catching up over the fact that Adrien was also a ‘fan’. Knowing that such a charming boy like Luka considered his pun machine alter ego attractive, stating that the only blondie with green eyes as handsome he knew was Adrien, was definitely a good way to end the day.
Then, that had happened. Apparently, Hawk Moth had thought that the idea of unleashing once again Gorizilla over the powerless city of Paris was a hilarious idea. It had taken them forever to calm him down, the bodyguard had been all agitated since there had been no sign of his protegee – at least for what he knew. Cataclysm, Lucky Charm, Miraculous Ladybug, the script was old and overused and after the most tired pound it ever Adrien had called it a day, sinking into his own bed as soon as he had been home.
The unconscious was a calming place, a pleasant one, just like Luka.
Just like Luka… Luka… the date.
Out of pure will and terror he had managed to get on his feet, realizing with horror that not only he hadn’t just fallen asleep, but he was also late. Two. Hours. Late. Dread didn’t describe properly the feeling that had taken over. Begging a very annoyed looking Plagg he had launched himself into the night sky, running on all four out of pure despair. When he had arrived at the restaurant, miserably closed, Luka was leaning over the wall of the entrance that was off, humming a very mellow, very melancholic melody. And he had dressed up, for once in his life wearing something classy, a white dress shirt and a black jacket without sleeves. His hair had grown a bit in those months, enough for him to pull a little ponytail.
What a waste, Adrien had thought. What a waste on someone like him, this beautiful person lightening up as soon as he was there, running to hug him, saying that he knew there had been an akuma today and he was happy to see he was okay. Except he wasn’t, this wasn’t, it was not okay. He was taking advantage of his position, the fact that there was stuff he was keeping for himself. It wasn’t fair for himself, most importantly it wasn’t fair for him.
“And you’re okay with this?” He didn’t know what he had been implying with those words, he had felt the need to get them out. To be heard. Because Luka always listened.
The guitarist had given him a weird, aware look, holding up his hands.
“I am if you are.” Unfair. Unfair. Unfair. Nothing but that feeling of guilt had filled his heart, and Adrien had rushed in, hugging him as closely as he could. Luka had embraced back, caressing his back slowly and gently as it was his way of being, telling him that they could postpone on a day with a less dangerous akuma terrorizing the city. Adrien had kept his eyes shut, choking silent sobs against his jacket. Thinking that maybe it was okay, maybe they could still keep going like this. H was scared, besides there was no need to change anything, or even better there was no need to say something that wasn’t needed. This was enough, this could be enough.
Adrien had then opened his eyes, only to feel them pinching. From the window of the restaurant, he could see the lonely white table with two dishes and two glasses, and all around… were candles and roses. Luke remembered. He had remembered the mention of the romantic gesture the blonde had done for a girl that hadn’t gone as planned. He had remembered how Adrien had always wished for something like that for himself. He knew how much of a hopeless romantic he was. Luka knew him.
At the same time, he didn’t. He didn’t know him. It was not okay.
It was not okay, and it was not enough.
Mirror sessions were back after that, more frantic than ever but less frequent than he would have liked – he was dense he could admit, not enough to proclaim to his father or Nathalie that he was Chat Noir while in the shower. He had wished it was like preparing for a shooting, or even imagining to be an actor like mom was. The tension was nothing like. The number of warnings coming from all directions was massive, starting from how once again his friends were getting worried about him – he wasn’t going to resist the bribe of chocolate chip cookies for long –, how Ladybug had expressively told him no one was supposed to know about their real identities, how there was no telling how Luka was going to react over the fact that his date was the cat boy with whom sometimes he fought crime with – man that was a weird line to say out loud. He had found it hard to sleep, too tense to get lost into his dreams, questioning his decision all night long.
One night, after a particularly harsh internal battle between him himself and he, he had rolled over a little too much forgetting about his poor little cheese-eating friend. He had been on his way to apologize to the squished kwami, but with a single firm gesture coming from his tiny arm Plagg had gotten him to shut up, eyes widened and extremely pissed.
“You’re telling him.” His eyelid had twitched a little. Right, he had kept him awake as well. “I don’t care what Ladybug says, I don’t care what Tikki says, you’re telling him.”
“Huh, okay?”
“It’s not a question Adrien, it’s an order. Do it or else you won’t find Atlantis that much of a natural disaster.” Wasn’t for experience he would have doubted that this tiny guy was able of much. Good thing he did have precedents, so Adrien had opted to nod and lay down once again. Following orders was still pretty normal for him anyway. “… besides…” Plagg had scooted closer to him, nudging against his shoulder while closing his eyes. “No secret is worth taking away your happiness, kid.” Adrien had found no problem sleeping from then on.
At last, after a bit more of self-convincing, it had all come down on the matter of when. Adrien wasn’t exactly sure if the news was particularly good or bad, consequentially he had no idea if the reveal had to be organized during a joyful or tense situation. Was a date a good idea? Or was it better to simply invite him over, or go to his house and talk? Luka was a great listener, but he didn’t always like to talk much, maybe he was going to feel pressured in the second case. He communicated better with songs… but writing a jingle about how he was a superhero in a leather suit with a ring that could pulverize the Tour Eiffel didn’t sound like a hit – maybe… or maybe it was, he had to ask Luka later if the matter was going to be solved. After so much time pondering, he had been left with nothing concrete, no ideas. He couldn’t ask his friends, nor Ladybug. Maybe this was a bad decision after all – never mind Plagg that was still glaring.
He had been trying to focus on his Chinese homework all afternoon, his mind running miles with him unable to make it stop. Then his phone had lightened up, a welcomed distraction that had blossomed into absolute delight at reading the sender’s name. Despite the migraine coming along with the situation, it was all worth it just for a chance to be with him.
Melody: Hey Sunshine
Melody: If I remember right you’re free tomorrow
Melody: Do you want to come over?
Me: Of course I do :)
Me: My schedule ends early afternoon
Me: Is the evening okay?
Melody: Perfect
Melody: Dress nice, it’s a date
Melody: A special one, for a special day
Me: Why? What’s tomorrow?
Melody: Wanna guess?
Me: …
Me: Thursday?
Melody: Ahah, well also
Melody: But also exactly one year since the Music Festival
Melody: It’s the day you and I met
Somehow while melting into an absolute puddle of tears and adoring whines, Adrien had realized that this guy was too wonderful. In his heart the last thing he wanted to do was ruining something good, especially a night Luka had prepared for him. But this wasn’t about himself anymore, this was about giving him what he deserved. Hopefully they were going to have a date still after this.
Hopefully. Adrien had tried to forget about that eventuality, at least enough to finish his homework. It had taken him a while to fall asleep that night – Plagg had simply whispered “thin ice” in a very grumpy tone.
The next day he had used all his experience as a model to look his best, raised two thumbs up at his mirror, and headed out. He had begged his bodyguard to leave him alone on this one and the big guy had actually agreed, somehow seeing his seriousness and commitment more than his father – granted that the bar was pretty low on that one. The path leading to the Liberty was not exactly short from his house, yet he had felt the absolute need to rethink everything. Perhaps to find it in himself the strength to blame himself for wanting to come clean only now. It had been a year, a year since he had met Luka. He had changed so much, his thoughts, his world, himself. He was there to make just another change and take control, it was terrifying and exciting…
…
… and there he was.
When he saw the Liberty, his stomach did that fluttering again. Pure tension and longing mixed together, because this was about him and it was making him grow terrified; but this was about him, and he loved everything that involved him. The sight of the ship covered in aromatic candles and roses with the table prepared on the bridge, the most romantic place once again, should had not surprised him after all. He still had to close his eyes for a moment to recollect himself.
Luka was waiting on the dock, smiling at him. It was such a lovely view, and when he extended his hand towards him it turned into the perfect view.
“You look amazing. You’re ready?”
He was. He finally was. Adrien sighed, shaking his head.
“I have to tell you something first.” Huh, something was wrong. The guitarist had changed expression, he looked so confused and hurt all of the su- wait. “Ah! No! Not that kind of ‘I have to tell you something’, an actual ‘I have to tell you something’!” He had practiced this moment for so long, how was it possible he had never noticed how off it sounded? Luka let out a nervous laugh. Ah, his hands were sweating already, where was Chat Noir’s confidence when he needed it? “I really need to get this out of my chest.”
“Oh, okay. I’m listening.”
“And if afterwards you have doubts about…” He didn’t like it, but he needed to state it as it was. “… all of this, I’ll understand.” He was in. He was doing it. No turning back. That most likely didn’t sit right with Luka, he wasn’t looking any less distressed.
He reached for him, grabbing one of his hand for comfort. Even though he didn’t understand, he was still doing his best to be there. Gosh, Adrien loved him, so much.
“Don’t jump to conclusions, tell me what it is and then we can talk about it.” He looked for communication in his relationships, he had told him from the start and even before, during the times they used to talk about anything and everything, waiting for the sun to set behind the bridge over the Seine. The blonde hoped they were going to talk too.
He closed his eyes again, took the deepest breath in his life, and nodded.
“It might sound crazy, but please listen to me and believe me.” Luka nodded immediately. “I…” He had composed a whole speech about how much these last months had been amazing, how he was sorry that he had kept quiet over something important for so long, and how he hoped that they could still try and be together for real. A convincing discussion slowly leading to the reveal. “… I’m Chat Noir, and I love you.” Out of all of that he had taken seven words max and blurted them out without a single thought in his head.
The cat was out of the bag, classic cat superhero style. If only that knowledge wasn’t making him feel worse. He was tense, sweating, completely still, waiting for his judgement. Every second was turning into a minute then an hour then it was getting lost into his own misty head.
It was warm outside, even at that hour.
Those long fingers clenched around his hand.
Adrien looked up. Luka was smiling tearfully at him, his blue eyes were mesmerizing. He laughed happily, then he reached for his cheek. Heartbeats echoed into the blonde’s head as he got closer, eyes narrowed but still open as to catch any kind of rejection. It hit him very very slowly that this was actually true, this out of world fantasy was not a fruit of his messed up imagination, and the moment the realization took over Adrien closed the distance between them. Wow. Luka kissed nothing like he would have expected. His hand on his cheek was careful and gentle like him, but his lips were caressing his with want and passion, like they had lost all the patience behind the moment they had met in electric need. Closeness was something Adrien had missed for such a long time and could never get enough of. Luka’s closeness was whole, real, his. He reached for his jacket, just to hold onto something and have another proof that this was happening.
They parted, and then got closer, kissing again and again, happily trapped into a bubble in which time and space couldn’t reach them. When they back away with trembling breaths, Adrien felt his lips getting immediately cold and couldn’t help himself as he reached for one last peck. Luka laughed into it, pressing back then leaning his forehead over his. There was an amount of sweetness into those eyes that it made the blonde want to look away, his sight getting all blurry.
“I love you too.” His hand was still over his face. “Will you be my boyfriend?”
The answer was the clearest of his life. It was screaming from the bottom of his stomach, it was highlighted in neon in the middle of his brain. He was almost tempted to tackle him to the ground and let his actions speak for himself – alright he needed to chill for a moment –, then confusion hit him. He… he said it, he had said it, right? He told him the truth about his identity. Then what was this lack of reaction? Where was the amazement, the fright, the confusion, even the anger? Adrien Agreste had just confessed he made a habit of running over the roofs of Paris in full cat cosplay and this was the reaction?
“I… you… what’s going on?” Luka giggled, probably still caught up with the latest nice mood. Maybe he didn’t believe the blonde, maybe he didn’t hear him at all. For a musician this talented it sounded farfetched to miss a sound, but you never knew. “I’m… I’m Chat Noir, Luka.”
The guitarist blinked, smile slowly decreasing but without disappearing.
“Yeah, I heard that.”
“As the superhero, Chat Noir.”
“Yeah, I know that.”
“Then why aren’t you saying anything about that?” A little shrug. The last thing he would have expected was this nonchalance. It was maddening. “I’m a superhero, I’m Chat Noir! Why aren’t you mad? You deserved to know! You should’ve known for a…” Suddenly the guitarist’s eyes were not as easy to find as before. Like they were hiding something. “… a… while…” Again, Adrien was extremely dense emotionally, and some things were harder to understand for him. But he wasn’t stupid, most important, he couldn’t ignore that little guilty grin of his taking over. “… you knew.” The pressure that had assaulted him for the last period disappeared completely, now there was only absolute shock. “You knew I was Chat Noir?!? What in the world, since when?!?”
The guitarist passed a hand over his neck, looking a little reluctant. It was a little weird of an emotion on him, on someone so on track with himself and proud of his persona. He took his hands, gently guiding him onto the bridge. That was one relief at least.
“To be honest, I was never completely sure. If you hadn’t told me I wouldn’t have known one hundred percent… but at some point I started to have my suspicions.” He led him near the rail, the moon was mirroring into the water of the Seine. His heart soared at the view. “It was the kind of thought you pay attention to only when something comes up, so I never actively tried to prove it was real.” He sounded relaxed. Perhaps he had made peace with it for a while.
Adrien nodded absently, feeling a weird limbo between relief that he wasn’t completely recognizable and that there were at least doubts in people’s minds.
“Okay, but there has to be a time when you started to think about it.”
“… there was a moment.” Once more Luka looked guilty, while smiling still. He looked at him, raising his hands. “Again, it was a doubt, not a certainty. I never actively knew for sure you were Chat Noir, okay?” The blonde frowned but nodded. “Well… remember the Desperada incident?”
He gaped, so strongly he almost chocked.
“You have a suspicion for months?!” Luka laughed a little, that managed to calm him down a little.
“An idea, a speculation, call it what you want. It got me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.” He leaned against the rail, looking pensive. “We were hiding in the lockers, and while I was in there I heard you opening and closing a locker… then opening and closing a door.” Holy Miraculous he was an idiot. “When I found you with Ladybug in the sewer you left, and I got the snake Miraculous. Right after that Chat Noir was back.” He grinned, eyes lightening up. “From that moment the possibility has never really left my mind, and nothing has happened that made me think it couldn’t be real.” Of course not, Adrien was never around Chat Noir and Chat Noir was never around Adrien. It almost made sense – sure, ‘almost’.
Adrien took a few deep breaths, still recovering from that sudden reveal – a confession that did not go the way he would have expected. He looked at this guy who so calmly was taking everything in, a view that was calming like very few other things and, slowly, he smiled, joining him at admiring the Seine. He let his head fall onto his shoulder, closing his eyes for a moment.
“I was so worried about this.”
“I’m sorry, I really didn’t know what to do. On one hand I didn’t want it to be true, because it made me feel anxious whenever I looked at the news and saw another dangerous akuma.” He wrapped his arm around him protectively. It felt so nice. “On the other, it was kind of an endearing thought, that the two gorgeous blondes I knew just happened to be the same person.” Gosh he was going to die, this person did not hold back with compliments with either of them.
Speaking of…
“Wait, if you were thinking about it since back then… were you teasing me on purpose whenever you talked about Chat Noir in front of me?” Whoa, he had to take in the fact that this very zen guitarist was able to make such a suggestive smile. I made his entire face burn. “Oh my gosh.”
“You were always blushing whenever I did it, I couldn’t help myself.”
“For real??”
“It was too adorable. At that point either you were really him or you found him attractive as well… which I would’ve understood.”
“Stooop!!” Adrien covered his eyes, his heart bursting out of his chest, laughing out what was left of his fear. “… you really don’t care? I’m the one who asked you out, not Chat Noir.” A bit a sadness made him step away just a little. “And people like me better when I’m not him…”
“If people aren’t into you when you’re a blonde superhero with a sexy catsuit, maybes there’s something wrong with them. I suggest blindness.” It got him to laugh. Luka brought him closer, arms around him. “Besides, there aren’t two people here. You are Adrien, and you are Chat Noir. Being a superhero is a part of you. And I love it, because it makes you… you.” Truly sincerity was his biggest quality. Adrien didn’t doubt a word that had come out of his mouth. He leaned his head into the crook of his shoulder.
“Are you sure?” Luka nodded, his hair tickling his cheek.
Then he pulled away. He put a finger under his chin, raising it up. Their eyes met. There was such a calm, comfortable world behind those blue globes. It made him want to never leave.
“You’re a rare symphony, Adrien Agreste, one that had been kept hidden for far too long. I wanna hear that song, your soul, finally free to be heard. I want to know its beauty, because the echo alone is astonishing.” He knew him. He knew all of him. “The kind and selfless to a fault, the professional and determinate model, the mischievous and enchanting superhero, these are all notes that play in your life, that make your life. And I wanna be part of that song, if you will let me.” He pressed another, shorter kiss on his lips, as to seal this moment forever into his body, forever into his heart.
There was no way Adrien would have been able to stop tears. Luka gulped. The blonde smiled, a horribly wide, unsophisticated curve that would have made all of his photographers shudder at the same time. Perhaps that was why it felt so immensely good.
“You… y-you’re not allowed to say you’re not good with words after this.”
The guitarist laughed, relieved, holding him closer.
“It’s a yes then, Sunshine?” Adrien smiled, reaching forward again, thinking that there was no imaginary world of his able to replicate this.
“It’s a yes, Melody.”
This was pure, unparalleled, wholesome reality.

I know you've talked about this before but I don't think you've talked about it in a single post so if you don't mind me asking...how do you think the whole "girl power" theme is handled in the show? I watched a video where Thomas said he wanted Ladybug to be "the next girls' superhero", but with the way the show punishes Marinette for being selfish and treats Chat Noir as though he's entitled to her affections, while also pitting girls against each other for Adrien(Mari, Chloe, Lila), well...
I know you've talked about this before
I don't think you've talked about it in a single post
I don’t understand that fully but I imagine you mean that I’ve mentioned it but haven’t really gone into it?
Because yeah, the “girl power” thing is garbage. Marinette/Ladybug feels a single emotion and the show is like no, go back, do it again.
And apparently Adrien/Chat (you know, the sheltered guy who’s been trapped in his mansion outside of whatever Gabriel told him to do) knows better than Marinette/Ladybug and is always trying to “teach her things,” like in “Gamer 2.0″ where he sees that she’s clearly upset and gives her literally none of the advice that she needs (her “forgetting to play” wasn’t even remotely the problem; also, when Chat goofs off and messes up, it’s whatever and the narrative shrugs it off, but when Ladybug is upset and messing up, it has to be addressed and she has to be berated by the narrative for it), but apparently that’s the solution because “Chat knows best.”
It’s infuriating. When Ladybug is angry, she’s being “too emotional” and all the blame goes to her (had Chat talked to her about throwing himself off the edge in “Gamer 2.0″ so they could agree on it instead of him just doing it, Gamer wouldn’t have been able to do that absolutely unecessary dig at Ladybug for--you know--having stuff to do and wanting this to be over; two-against-one apparently isn’t fair according to him yet he’s allowed to play as any character, meaning this scene only existing for shipping fuel and dissing Ladybug), but when Chat is angry and blames Ladybug and bribes Plagg and threatens to quit while Paris is literally drowning, what does Astruc say?
Tumblr media
Mind you, Gamer 2.0 (going back to that) is an akuma who happened because no one had time to play Max’s game on THAT SPECIFIC DAY and Marinette is one of the people who rejected him because, again, she had stuff to do, so I guess that means that she has to fix Max’s problems since apparently no one else is going to do it.
Had this just been a normal day for Ladybug, yes, I would say that she’s being unreasonable, but keep in my that she was stressed out and had so much stuff to do and was so sleep-deprived that she fell asleep in class. If anything, I’m impressed that she didn’t break down into tears because of all the time slipping out of her fingertips. Chat Noir heard her groaning and clearly wanting to get this over with, but instead of trying to speed things up to help her because that’s what she wants, he continues goofing off (100% sure one of the reasons Ladybug tried to rush and stop giving him turns was because his idling was further frustrating her) and only asks if she’s okay once she stops engaging him in conversation (he even was like, “Ha! See, M’lady?” right before that because he was “showing her how it’s done”). Otherwise, he - at best - was like, “hey can we review your strategy right quick???”
And, y’know, Chat’s worried about people like Lila and Chloe getting their feels hurt, but if Ladybug is upset then it basically goes ignored unless it’s a finale where they need to do the standard “WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER, M’LADY” schtick (which... sure).
Oh, and there’s also the fact that basically every single girl who isn’t Marinette got dismissed as a potential holder in one way or another before the finale (where all the guys got outted): Kagami outted herself to Hawk Moth and Ikari Gozen (which I already explained why her identity didn’t need to be revealed even if she still hadn’t listened to Longg), Chloe has always been a piece of trash anyway and revealed herself to everyone, and Marinette began to reconsider Alya as the fox after “Feast.”
Also, Marinette standing up for herself and her friends is fine (”Origins”) until Adrien says it’s not (”Chameleon”).

Felinette Month - Day 1: Purrito
So this is my first time writing something that wasn’t academic or work documentation in probably at least 5 years and it’s definitely my first fan fic so please bear with the rough writing. And the potential out of character-ness of this. I wasn’t even planning to write for this but after reading a few of the ones by @fandomsilhouette, I felt too inspired not to try!
Fingers crossed that this burst of inspiration last long enough for me to finish the prompts on @felinettenovember!
This is based loosely on a fan fic I read a while back (if I remembered who wrote it, I’d completely tag them here but I don’t even remember the name now)
Chat!Felix and reveal
Around 1500 words and most certainly fluff
Marinette hummed as she put together the tray of cheese pastries and tea for her anticipated visitor. She loved the decision to make a schedule for patrol to clear up some time in her and Chat’s busy schedules. Under this, she had three days every week that she didn’t need to worry about sneaking out and one day that they could meet up from patrol to hang out and work on finding Hawkmoth. Additionally it resulted in a standing visit with her masked friend once a week, with her parents’ approval after the Weredad akuma brought it to their attention under the condition of homework still getting done, of course.
Once upstairs, Marinette worked on tidying up her room a little from her projects, as the scrap pile from her ongoing projects could be a little distracting and she preferred to have those in acceptable condition for smaller projects. Maybe she could make a nice patchwork quilt for Felix as a get-well present, since he seemed to be coming down with something. A cold or maybe the flu? He definitely seemed flushed and less alert than usual, seeming to space out while looking at her throughout the day.
As she sat down with the pieces, arranging and rearranging to find the most appealing look that Felix may approve of, a thump sounded from the balcony and the clatter of a chair falling. Quickly pushing the fabrics out of sight, Marinette climbed up and opened the door to peer out at Chat. He was still laying on the ground with a bright red face, visibly sweaty skin, and eyes shut.
“Oh! You look terrible Chat! Did something happen on your patrol?” Marinette rushed over to help him up slowly and stopped when she noticed the shiver running through him and the quick breaths. She felt his forehead, pushing his more disheveled than usual hair out of the way. His eyes slowly opened and a weak grin crossed his face.
“Hiya Princess. You look nice today. Is your hair down?” His hand reached up and batted at the closest pigtail. Her hair was definitely still in it’s pigtails, albeit a little longer than they were when these visits first started. That’s not a good sign…
“Let’s get you inside and out of the cold. Are you sick? Why didn’t you go home right away after patrol if you’re sick? Or better yet, why not call Ladybug and ask her to cover this patrol so you could rest up?” He mumbled incoherently and leaned heavily on her as she helped him climb into her room. The moment he was near the chaise, he collapsed heavily on it.
Marinette rushed to grab blankets and a pillow to make him comfortable, chastising him about the importance of taking care of his health and assuring him that Ladybug certainly felt the same way, despite his denials of being sick. With some coaxing, she managed to get him to sit up so she could wrap the biggest blanket she owned around his shoulders. She moved to grab another blanket and pillow and he let himself fall down again, rolling off the chaise onto the floor.
“Oh Chat! Let me help you back up! I’m sure you’d be much cozier than on the floor!” I’m sure my parents are wondering what is happening at this point. Hopefully they help me take care of him when they’re done prepping for tomorrow, at least enough that he can make it home.
“Nnnngh,” and curled up tighter in the blanket, burying his face into the spot where the carpet and the top edge of the blanket met. With a resigned sigh, Marinette went to the bathroom to find a thermometer and to see what kinds of medicine they had. At least if it’s only a cold, she might be able to give him something to help him through the night. Coming back into the room, she chuckled at the sight of him curled up tightly, like a little purrito.
“Chat, you need to get up and take this so you feel better soon. I have some tea that you can take it with, if you’d like,” Marinette cooed, trying to sound as much like her mother as possible, as she walked towards the nearly forgotten tray with medicine in hand.
“I don’t want to! I want to cuddle,” Chat protested and pulled the blanket closer in, somehow curling up even more and acting more like a petulant child throwing a tantrum with each passing minute. Marinette brought the tray over, setting it near the chaise, grabbing another blanket, and knelt down by his side.
“I tell you what, if you sit up and take your medicine like a good boy, I’ll give you this extra blanket and let you pick which pillow you want to use,” she bribed, hoping that the time babysitting Manon had taught her the right skill for this kind of situation. With this offer on the table, Chat managed to sit up slowly, his eyes looking more glazed over than when he had arrived. Marinette handed him the tea, grown cold by this point, and the correct dosage of cold medicine, to prevent him from accidentally taking too much.
He quickly took both without further protests and then a goofy grin broke out. “I want you to be my pillow!” His arms wrapped around Marinette and tried to curl himself up on her lap. The contact made her blush a bit and she tried to pull back.
“You’re such a flirt! What happened to being in love with Ladybug?” she joked nervously. After readjusting so he was just leaning on her shoulder, instead of across her lap, she used one hand to drape the second blanket over him. At least this way I can tell he isn’t too cold.
“I only flirt with you and Ladybug. I can’t help that if I didn’t have this curse, you’d be my first choice,” he murmured, seeming to be drifting back to sleep already. Marinette was stunned into silence. Did this mean Chat likes her? How did things change so much just from hanging out? With how out of it he seems, is he going to remember this conversation later? Are things going to be different the next time I see him?
For a few minutes she spiraled, thinking of every possible thing that could change, speculating whether this would affect how she treated him as Ladybug (try as she might to avoid letting these nights slip into her superhero life), and how different this might have been if she didn’t have a crush on Felix. Soon he startled her out of her thoughts with a jolt, as he sat up and started thrashing wildly at the blankets and pulling at his suit.
“Ack! Too hot! Stupid suit! Plagg, claws in!”
A flash of light and silence. Marinette clamped her hands over her eyes as quickly as she could with her brain already running on delay.
“Mmmmmmm. Much better,” he mumbled, before Marinette felt his head resting on her leg, arms wrapping around her waist, and body resting on her lap. She kept her hands over her eyes and freaked out internally. How am I supposed to talk him into transforming back?
“What are you doing kid?! You can’t do that here! Nobody is supposed to know your identity! I hate to say it but you need to transform back so Ladybug doesn’t get upset with you!” Plagg fumed. Marinette felt him try to pull on Chat’s arms
“You’re so warm,” Chat purred out, ignoring Plagg’s badgering, “Why don’t we do this more often, Princess? This would be perfect during movie nights.”
I need to do something. I can’t stay like this forever!
“Chat, why don’t you transform back and just take one of the blankets off? Wouldn’t that be better?” Marinette kept her eyes clamped together, moving her hands slowly down to where she thought his shoulder was and felt for the blankets. Apparently he hadn’t pulled them back up before curling up on her so it was just his shirt. Feeling utterly surreal, she noted that the sleeve’s fabric felt like the high quality fabrics she had to save up to buy for bigger, fancier projects.
“Noooooo. This is what I want. This is too nice to give up!” he protested, twisting his body up first to bury his face into her side, then shake it dramatically. A ticklish jolt ran through her body and she opened her eyes without thinking, pushing him back to stop him.
“Felix?!” Marinette gasped. Felix just smiled and continued trying to cuddle back up to her.
Just then Marinette’s parents knocked on the door downstairs and asked if they could come in. If her brain hadn’t come to a halt, she might’ve had a joke about their impeccable timing.

baby please (come home)
Summary: It’s the first Christmas after Hawkmoth’s defeat and Adrien is struggling without his lady.
A/N: This is an @mlsecretsanta gift for @dailyplagg who requested ladrien.  I hope you like it!
AO3
The words bah humbug never had a place in Adrien’s vocabulary.  But as he hit the snooze on yet another alarm he felt he was as close as he ever would be to sympathizing with its originator.
Ebenezer Scrooge had nothing on him.
Adrien didn’t need corporeal manifestations of the past to haunt him into the holiday spirit. He had enough ghosts hanging around as it was.  His father’s empty house, his father’s empty chair. He was used to missing his mother this time of year but burying her in the spring reopened old wounds.
Reporters stopped calling months ago but Adrien still saw the occasional photographer in the bushes across the street.  No amount of quiet menacing from the Gorilla could keep them all away but then again who could resist the tragic son of a convicted terrorist?
Not the tabloids.
The first few weeks were the worst.
The shock, the pity, the speculation.
The trial.
Adrien didn’t think he would ever be able to explain just exactly how it felt to testify against his father, not once, but twice.  The press was quick to point out how somber Chat Noir was in those days, unable to muster a smile even for his lady.
His lady.
Hah.
His third and final ghost sat like a weight on his chest, an ache in his hand, a phantom limb.  She’d never understood why Hawkmoth’s reveal had rattled Chat Noir as much as it had, but she’d rarely spent a night away from him in the beginning.  His days were filled dodging reporters and hiding out with well meaning friends like Nino and Kagami and Marinette while his evenings were spent racing across rooftops with his partner who didn’t know his reasons but knew his hurt.
Until she left.
“Just for the semester,” She’d assured him, quickly taking his hand in her own as they ignored the city laid out before them in favor of each other’s eyes.  It had been that way for a while now, long enough for Adrien to hope that maybe his lady was finally his lady.  A fledgling desire that was quashed the instant she told him she was leaving.
“I have an opportunity… I can’t turn it down.”
Adrien understood.  He did. Even if his heart didn’t quite believe her when she said,
“I’m not abandoning you.”
But the last thing he wanted to do was hold her back.  Wherever it was Ladybug was going, whatever it was that was taking her away from him, well, she deserved it.  Paris was safe now. He knew she was in university like him. She couldn’t keep her life on hold forever.
But that didn’t mean he didn’t miss her.
Some nights he’d wonder where she’d gone, who she was seeing, what she was doing.  If she were happy, if she would stay.
If she were thinking of him.
Those last thoughts sent him into a melancholy spiral that even Plagg couldn’t pull him out of.
And as the days turned into weeks into months, he found himself sinking further into his despair.  His therapist, an Alya-Nino-Marinette intervention insistence, told him it was only natural to feel low as the holidays drew near.
“After all,” She’d said, fixing him with the best earnest, non-judgemental glare money could buy. “You’re coming up on some big anniversaries.”
The happiest time of year indeed.
Sighing, he snuggled deeper beneath his covers, ignoring his alarm as it once again filled the room.  Plagg would take care of it when he was irritated enough- right now Adrien couldn’t muster up the energy to reach across the bed.
Maybe he should just skip the party tonight.
Even as that tempting thought crossed his mind he knew it was a nonstarter.  Nino would skin him alive if he bothered sending the sorry bro i’m just not up for it text he was already mentally drafting.
“It won’t be the same without you,” His friend had said when Adrien tried to reject the initial invitation. “Don’t bail on us at Christmas. Between you and Marinette the group has been pretty small lately.”
Nino wasn’t wrong.
Audrey Bourgeois had offered Marinette another opportunity to intern with her in New York and this time she’d accepted.  It had been tough, missing not just one but two of his closest friends these last few months. But Marinette had been in constant contact through group chats, instagram, and on one particularly rough night three weeks back, a two hour long phone call to talk him down from a panic attack.
At the time she was the only one who would answer her phone but in the end Adrien found she was exactly who he’d needed to talk him down.  He’d panicked later, texting her apology after apology, but her long string of emojis and all caps insistence that that’s what she was there for went a long way to easing his guilt.  Still, he was dying to thank her in person.
But Marinette wasn’t due back in Paris until after the New Year.  Making it that much harder for Adrien to drag himself out of bed and into the shower so he wouldn’t be late.
“Do I even need to shower, Plagg?”
His kwami gave him a sniff.
“You smell great to me.”
A shower it is.
Groaning Adrien rolled himself to his feet and shuffled off to the bathroom.  If he hurried he could still meet Nino at Alya’s place before they left for the bar.
It was hard to leave once he got there though and he found himself lingering under the hot water.  If he hadn’t given the Gorilla the week off he might have asked him to drive him over but as it was his best bet was probably taking a cab. Bribing Plagg to transform was always an option but with Ladybug out of the city Chat Noir was making fewer and fewer appearances.  Transforming tonight was guaranteed to attract attention, which was the last thing he wanted these days.
Resigning himself to a cab and a stranger’s curious stares, Adrien stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. At this rate he was going to have to meet his friends at the party.  He stepped out of the bathroom to grab his phone and update Nino only to stop short.
Ladybug was sitting on the edge of his bed.  She was kicking her feet together, agitated, as she stared down at her fidgeting hands.  Her hair was longer and pulled into a ponytail but she was otherwise the same as he’d last seen her yoyoing off into the fading summer sunset.
Something like a whine escaped his throat and her head snapped up.
“Adrien!” She squeaked, jumping to her feet.  “I– you– oh .” Ladybug’s face flushed pink and her eyes roamed over him once, twice, before resting firmly on his forehead.  “Your w-window was open so I…” She gave a jerky wave. Adrien glanced towards his windows and then back to her, not entirely believing she was actually here.
“ Lady- bug?” He said, voice cracking on the second syllable.  Her eyes, blue and familiar and dear, flicked down to his.  She bit her lip, a nervous habit he didn’t know he missed, and nodded.
Something tight and painful eased in his chest.
“I thought you left Paris.”
Ladybug’s smile was too sad, eyes too knowing when she said
“I came back early.”
“Oh.” His hand found the back of his neck and he gripped it tight to keep himself from reaching towards her. “When…?”
“My plane got in an hour ago.”
“I see.” He said, not seeing at all. How heres and why mes flooded his thoughts but before he could even begin to give them voice Ladybug shifted, averting her gaze away from his.
“I didn’t mean to catch you at a bad time.”
It took him another moment to realize he was still wrapped only in a towel.  Adrien yelped and crossed his arms over his chest only to scramble back to grip the towel again as it threatened to slip down his hips.
Oh god this isn’t happening.
“I– can I have a moment?”
Ladybug nodded, eyes focused somewhere above his head, and Adrien rushed to his closet to pull on the first set of clothes he could find.  It wasn’t until he was already running back to her that he realized he’d pulled on the red and black Christmas sweater Nino bought for him as a joke.  The sweater was a monstrosity that read Jingle Bug in bright gold letters with every black spot adorned with a matching gold bell.  Adrien loved it when he unwrapped it but wearing it for his friends and wearing it for his lady were two entirely different things.
Horror filled him as he jingled back to her.
Ladybug’s lips twitched.
“Please don’t,” Adrien groaned, running his hands through his hair.  “It was a gift from a friend.”
She giggled, shoulders shaking with poorly suppressed laughter and even though it was at his expense, Adrien’s heart flipped at the sound.
How many months had it been since he’d heard her laugh?
“I missed that,” He said, smiling softly.
Ladybug’s eyes sparkled in the overhead lights as she met his smile with her own.  It wasn’t until the silence stretched between them that he realized there was something wrong with this picture.
“What– um,” He coughed, blushed.  Tried again. “What are you doing here?”
Ladybug’s smile fell and he rushed on.
“Not that I’m not happy to see you.  Because I am. Happy, that is. But, um… why...” me?  He swallowed. “Why here?”
It’s not like they’d never spoken before.  Adrien found himself caught up in several akuma attacks over the years, unable to transform and rescued by his lady. And even after his father… well, after , Ladybug made it a point to stop by every once and a while to check on him.  More so in the early days, when the press and police and speculation about his own possible involvement in Hawkmoth’s schemes were under scrutiny, but still.  It wasn’t completely out of the question that she would drop in on a random evening.
Just not like tonight.
Even in his wildest daydreams, he couldn’t delude himself into thinking Adrien Agreste was so important to Ladybug that she’d be his first stop on her return to Paris.  Not before checking in with friends and family. Not before checking in with Chat .
Adrien’s heart beat an unsteady tattoo as he searched his partner’s face.  Ladybug’s eyes were soft, her smile kind as she reached forward and took his hand in hers.
“I heard you needed me.”
Always.
The word, fierce and quick, stuck in his throat.  It’s what he wanted to say. It’s what Chat Noir would say.
Adrien could only tremble as she entwined their fingers together.
“I’m just sorry it took me so long to get here.”
“My–” He stopped, his hand squeezing hers tight.  Her figure blurred behind the tears in his eyes and he was horrified to find some had already escaped down his cheeks.
Ladybug reached forward to cup his cheek with her free hand, thumb brushing away his tears, her spandex cool against his heated skin.
“It’s okay, chaton,” She whispered and even as the words left her mouth Adrien found himself collapsing into her arms, clutching and pulling and holding her to him.  His shoulders shook with sobs and he buried his face into her neck, relief and joy and exhaustion overwhelming him.
Ladybug’s knees buckled beneath their combined weight and Adrien sank with her to the ground.  Arms clasped tight around her waist he planted frantic kisses across her cheek, her ears, her forehead until they were both reduced to a teary, giggling mess.
“Silly kitty,” She murmured when he’d finally calmed down enough to pull away from her.  Adrien’s ribs felt tight around his chest at her sweet smile. She tapped his nose, once, twice and shook her head.  “I told you I’d come back.”
“How though?” He stared at her, his beautiful, wonderful Ladybug.  “How did you know?”
“You told me.”
“What?”
She blushed and made to push herself away from him but Adrien held her tight.
“My lady,” He coaxed, pulling her closer and rubbing soothing circles across her back.
“You, um, you called me.” Her eyes flicked to and away from his.  Adrien buried his face in her hair. “T-three weeks ago. You were kind of upset and let some things… some Chat things... slip and I… put it together.”
Adrien’s hands didn’t stop their movement even as realization crashed over him.  Three weeks back and a panic attack he couldn’t control. A late night phone call with one of his dearest friends, abroad for an internship and absent for the last few months.  Incoherent rambling about his father, the press, his lady.
The breath fell out of him and his grip on the stiff woman in his lap tightened all the more.
“Marinette,” He breathed.  Slowly, realizing he wasn’t about to push her away, she returned the embrace.
“Marinette.” He said, again, for the joy of it.
“Adrien.” Ladybug, Marinette, said and he could hear the smile in her voice.
Not wanting to miss seeing the real thing, he pulled back and grinned in return.
“You’re home.”
“Yeah, kitty.” She murmured, shyly playing with the bells of his sweater.  “I’m home.”

#6 Rose
Chat Noir hates her rule that he can know Ladybug’s identity but she doesn’t want to know his. She revealed herself to him some time ago and explained it was only for emergency purposes, in case he ever needed her for Plagg the way she needed Master Fu for Tikki. When he tried to do the same, she vehemently protested.
He does, however, like that he can now hang out with her as Marinette.
It’s nice, being able to know his lady entirely. He can see the little mementos that show her interest, the space she grew up in, the pictures of people that she loves. He’s a bit nosy, uses lines about cats and curiosity at least twice per visit, but Marinette never really tells him off for going through all her little trinkets.
And, he’s learned, she’s awfully good at protecting things that she actually does want to hide. He nearly lost a hand when looking for her diary.
Today he notices a shadow box on her bookshelf. In it is a single rose. Its petals are dried but still daintily curled. It no longer has its deep red colour, but it’s beautiful all the same.
He knows, logically, this can be any old rose. Maybe she even bought the shadow box like this. But somewhere in his heart, he knows better.
His words come out in a stilted whisper when he asks, “Is…is this—”
“Of course.” Marinette is by his side now, holding the box as delicately as she might have been holding the flower. She bites her lip and without the mask, he can see the way a blush overtakes her cheeks. “It was special to me.”
“Oh.” Chat Noir swallows thickly, marveling at the fact that she valued his gift so much that she bothered to preserve it. He shrugs, unsure. “I guess I just…never expected you to keep it?”
Marinette frowns. “I keep everything you give me.”
After a pause, she moves past him and digs into the bottom drawer of her desk. She takes out some fabric and paper and other pieces of clutter that apparently only sit there to hide a simple black box. She takes it out slowly, and after a small glance at him, she smiles and rests it on the table. She lifts the lid, and inside Chat Noir sees a familiar set of earrings he once carelessly bought her, followed by the bracelet he got instead when he realized she could never use the earrings. There’s a ticket stub from the movie they snuck into once, and a handful of photobooth pictures they took at the metro station.
“I call it The Litterbox,” Marinette says with a little smirk. She takes out a velvet pouch that contains one of the more luxurious gifts he’d given her over the course of their friendship.
“I always wondered if you wore my presents,” he muses. Then he sighs. “I guess not.”
“Of course not.”
Marinette takes out another bejeweled necklace, this one decorated with rubies. She tries to suppress a smile as she puts it on and marvels at herself in the mirror. Chat Noir thinks she looks stunning, although maybe a bit silly considering her current outfit. Marinette seems to agree based on the smugness on her face.
“If you must know, I wear them in my room when I’m playing video games or designing because, well, I can’t quite wear them anywhere else. Can you imagine if I showed up to school like this?” Marinette laughs. “Everyone would assume I have some secret boyfriend that likes to spoil me.”
Chat Noir grins as pulls out the dazzling earrings he bought long ago. She can’t wear them, so he stands behind her and holds them by her ears so they can pretend.
“I mean you could have a secret boyfriend that likes to spoil you,” he purrs into her ear. “Then you’d get all the pretty things you could ever want.”
Marinette rolls her eyes. “Are you trying to bribe me?”
“I would never.”
“God, you’re a rich boy, aren’t you?”
“Per your rules, I can neither confirm nor deny that.”
Marinette shakes her head. “You’re ridiculous,” she says, dismissing his flirting the way she always does when he knows she genuinely wants to continue.
She removes the necklace and he puts the earrings back too. Soon, The Litterbox is hidden away again. But the rose stays on display on her bookshelf.
“I like…” Marinette stares down at her lap where her hands are busy bunching up her shirt. Her cheeks are dusted with pink when she looks up at him again and bites her lip. “I like, um, when you get me flowers.” She shrugs. “Those don’t seem too out of place so I can keep them out. And,” she shrugs again, “I like looking at them and knowing, you know, that they’re from you.”
Chat Noir blinks, taken aback by the admission. Little honest moments like these always shut his encyclopedia of terrible pick-up lines and puns. He swallows as he nods. “O—okay,” he replies smoothly.
“Not that I’m telling you to buy me flowers, of course.”
Chat Noir grins. “Just let me know when you run out of vases, Bugaboo.”

Summary:  Side-effects may include: eating fabric, staring into bright lights, and being allergic to mothballs.  (AKA, the one where Gabriel Agreste has moth tendencies, and Adrien is rightfully concerned.)
Word Count:  4203
Notes:  Mostly inspired by the fact that there's so many Chat Noir cat tendencies fics and even a few Ladybug hibernation fics but WHERE are my Hawkmoth tendencies fics?? Anyway be the change you want to see
For non-english readers in particular since I got a lot of questions when I talked about it on discord: mothballs are little balls of pesticide/deodorant that can be used to repel moths. Usually kept in clothes drawers and are pretty outdated now but anyway its a Real Thing and not me trying to make an innuendo i swear lol

“Uh… Father?”  Adrien peeked in through the cracked door.  He shouldn’t—Father valued his privacy more than anything, including his son’s attention—but he couldn’t help it.  The brief glance he’d caught was just too weird.
Gabriel snapped to attention, his glasses jostling slightly as he tore his eyes away from the blinding lamp in the center of his desk.
“Adrien.”  His candycane-striped tie dropped out of his mouth.  The end of it was completely chewn off.  Was—did he just swallow that?  People couldn’t digest silk, could they?   “You’re supposed to be practicing your Chinese.”
“I-I know, I just came down to ask Nathalie—nevermind.”  It wasn’t like she or Father were likely to adjust his schedule so he could get ice cream with his friends, especially not when Father was doing… whatever he was doing.  “Are you okay?”
“That is no concern of yours,” he snapped.  Which wasn’t a yes.  Was this some new kind of coping mechanism?
Not for the first time, Adrien wished Father would agree to go to therapy.
“Um… okay.  I’ll just—go back to work.”
He dashed back up the stairs before Father could decide that his momentary break should be punished.  But still, he couldn’t get the image of the half-chewed tie or Father’s wide-eyed, trancelike stare out of his head.
XXX
“Have you noticed Father acting weird?”  He finally got up the nerve to ask Nathalie.  “I mean, weirder than usual?”
“I am sure he is just busy as always, Adrien.”
Which was just as much of a brush-off as “that is no concern of yours.”  Maybe he should’ve tried a less direct approach, but he couldn’t think of one.
“Has he… been working on a line of flavored fabrics?”  He tested one of his wilder theories.  It would explain why Father’s tie was patterned like a candy cane, at least.  Even Adrien knew that wasn’t in style.
Nathalie raised an eyebrow.  “What would give you that idea?”
Somehow he got the feeling that telling Nathalie what he’d seen wasn’t a good idea.  But who else could help Father if he was struggling?
“Um… well, he seemed like he was… eating his tie?  When I saw him yesterday.”
She sighed, and Adrien swore he heard something like “not again” muttered under her breath.  Maybe that was why he usually kept it tucked inside his vest?
“Your Father has developed some… odd habits lately.  But I can assure you it is nothing to worry about.”
Father had said the same thing before Mom disappeared.  Adrien didn’t stop worrying.
XXX
“I don’t see what the big deal is.  So your dad likes to chew on fabric, so what?  Not everyone can have excellent taste like me.”  Plagg swallowed another wedge of Camembert as if to prove it.
Adrien rolled his eyes and rolled over on the floor, soaking up the warmth of the sunset spilling in through his window.
“Maybe kwamis can eat all sorts of weird stuff, but humans can’t.  I just don’t know if this is some kind of coping mechanism, or something.  Maybe he’s been avoiding me because he’s acting weird and he doesn’t want anyone to find out.”
It would explain why Father only talked to him through his tablet, more often than not.  Maybe he was just embarrassed.  But he couldn’t go on like that forever, right?  Even if Mom’s disappearance hurt, they were better off leaning on each other than staying apart.
“Hate to break it to you, but your dad’s already weird, kid.  Eating ties is probably the best of his qualities.”
Adrien sighed.  It wasn’t like Plagg could understand; he just put whatever he wanted in his mouth.  Adrien himself could understand a little—ever since becoming Chat Noir, he sometimes had the urge to chew on cords, strings, even some plants.  It was a little embarrassing, but he could usually control himself.  Maybe if he shouldn’t though.  If Father saw him doing it, maybe he’d feel less weird about it himself?
...Or he’d punish Adrien for ruining perfectly good headphone cords.  Yeah, that was more likely.
Maybe it wasn’t a big deal, and he should just drop it, but he wanted to do something to help his Father.
“Get him something better to eat?”  Plagg suggested when Adrien voiced the thought out loud.  “A good aged swiss might do the trick.  Just don’t give him my Camembert; he doesn’t deserve it.”
“You’re useless,” he huffed.  Maybe the internet would have better advice.
“Eating fabric” just brought up a bunch of articles about sewing machine problems and disobedient pets.  Not exactly helpful.  But “How to stop my dad from eating fabric” didn’t seem like a useful search entry, either.
Plagg squirmed under his chin, looking up at the phone screen he held over his face.  “You think it’s got something to do with bugs?”  He asked, pointing to the one search result Adrien’s thumb had been half-covering.
“How to control bugs that eat clothes,” the article was titled.  Adrien snorted.
“Unless Father is secretly some kind of moth—”
His jaw snapped shut.  No, no, he was not going there again.  It had been bad enough when Ladybug suggested it before, and besides, it wasn’t like Father’s actions were any kind of proof.
Even if he had also been staring directly into a lamp, entranced…
“Adrien?  Kid, you don’t look so hot.  What’s going on?”
He didn’t want to say it.  It was stupid, anyway; Father had been akumatized before.  He shuddered just remembering it.
But he wasn’t just Adrien Agreste, son of Gabriel Agreste.  He was also Chat Noir, Hero of Paris.  And it would be irresponsible to drop a lead just because he was scared.
“Do you think… would Hawkmoth have animal tendencies from his miraculous too?”
Plagg’s eyes went wide—wider than they always were, anyway.  “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
“Just tell me, Plagg.”  He didn’t want to admit what he was saying at all—this was his father, and even if he could be restrictive and controlling, he wasn’t evil.
He was being ridiculous.  Utterly ridiculous.
“Well… yeah.  All miraculous users do.  Nooroo’s holders have always been weirder though.  They tend to be shut-ins.  Couldn’t even bribe them out with my best brie.”
“So you haven’t been around a lot of past Hawkmoths?”  It was both relieving and disappointing, but it made sense.  If Plagg thought Father had the side-effects, he would’ve said something before now.  Not that Plagg saw much of Father, considering Adrien didn’t see much of him…
“Nope.  They sent out their champions to fight for them most of the time.  Not like us who’ve gotta do the real work.”
Adrien snorted.  “What work?”
“Hey, protecting you when you take a beating isn’t easy!”  Plagg flicked his nose, and he laughed.
“Fair, I guess.”  Adrien rolled over onto his stomach as his kwami zipped away.  Probably grabbing some Camembert, or a stinky sock to snuggle under.
But to his surprise, Plagg didn’t come back with either of those things.  Instead he was carrying something just as smelly—if not worse.  A small, round white ball.  He was pretty sure he’d seen ones like it in his sweater drawer.
Adrien sat up and covered his nose.  “Is that a—mothball?”
“You’re still worried about your dad, right?”
He blinked.  It was easy to forget that Plagg could be perceptive when he wanted to be.  “I don’t see what mothballs have to do with this.”
“Really.  You don’t see what mothballs have to do with telling if someone is Hawkmoth,” he deadpanned.
“You think I should see if Father is… you know… by seeing if he hates mothballs?  Do you really think that will work?  I thought Hawkmoth had the butterfly miraculous.”
“You’re the one who was worried about it.”  Plagg shrugged.  “And like I said, the butterfly miraculous is weird.  Think there might’ve been something wrong with it even before it was used by a supervillain.  Maybe Hawkmoth picked his name for a reason. Anyway, you won’t know unless you try it.”
As far as Plagg’s ideas went, it wasn’t too bad.  It didn’t involve cheese, at least.  And if Father wasn’t hiding anything, then he wouldn’t be bothered by it, right?
Adrien took the mothball from his kwami’s outstretched paws.
He was going to prove that his Father wasn’t Hawkmoth.  And then he’d figure out what to do about the whole eating fabric situation.

When Nino told him he should push back against Father’s boundaries, Adrien was pretty sure this wasn’t what he meant.  Anxiety prickled the hairs on the back of his neck as he paced in front of the bedroom door.
“Come on kid, don’t get cold feet now,” Plagg whispered.
“My feet aren’t cold.  I have socks on.”  Adrien frowned down at his red-and-black socks.  They kept his footsteps quiet and gave him a little boost of confidence.  Ladybug wouldn’t be afraid to peek in his father’s room.
“Let’s do it,” he said with newfound determination, and cracked open the door.
Hadn’t Father had a window in here at one point?  The sunset should be streaming in right about now, but instead Adrien had to fumble in the pitch black for the lightswitch.  When the room illuminated, he blinked in shock.
“Wow.”  Plagg whistled.  “Your dad is a few wedges short of a wheel for sure.”
That… that was one way to say it.  Fabric was scattered across the floor in careless heaps.  At one point Adrien would have blamed it on his designing, but if that were the case, the clothes wouldn’t look gnawed on.
“This is worse than I thought, Plagg.”  Maybe it was a good thing his kwami had encouraged him to rebel after all.  Father seriously needed help. Humans shouldn’t even be able to digest silk and wool!  What if he got some kind of disease?  What if he already had some kind of disease? That second option was more likely, considering… well, all this.
“So, you gonna drop those mothballs or not?”
“Right.”  Adrien snapped out of his thoughts and began digging the white spheres out of his pockets. He’d have to bury them in the chewed up clothes so Father wouldn’t see them. But what if Father did notice? Was it really worth the risk just to ease his mind about Father being Hawkmoth?
...Yes, it was. Especially considering there was no proof Hawkmoth couldn’t akumatize himself. And Father had been the only lead Ladybug had ever had…
He shook his head. Just put the mothballs down, and he could prove his Father was innocent once and for all.
“Alright, let's get out of here. This place is creepy,” Plagg said when Adrien was done.
“I thought you would’ve liked the smell at least,” he tried to joke.  Better that than actually thinking about what he was doing.
“I’ll take your stinky socks over this any day.”
Adrien crept out of the bedroom, hoping that this whole endeavor ended up being pointless.

Father had a cold.
That was what Nathalie said, anyway.  Adrien had never actually seen Father sick before.  Nothing could keep him away from his work, or from… whatever he did when he was busy ignoring Adrien.
But he heard him wheezing behind his bedroom door, so he really had some kind of illness.
...Or he was allergic to the mothballs.  Plagg didn’t say it, but from the pinched look on his face every time Adrien passed by Father’s door, he was definitely thinking it.
“It has to be a coincidence,” Adrien told Plagg, who shrugged.
“Hey, don’t look at me.  You’re the one who had the idea that your dad is Hawkmoth in the first place.”
“Technically that was Ladybug,” he mumbled, flopping back on his bed.  “Maybe he just got sick from eating all that fabric.”
“Maybe.  But didn’t Nathalie say he’s been doing that for a while?”
Dang it, Plagg was right there.  It was just so surreal, thinking his father could actually be the supervillain he’d been fighting this whole time.
It was going to take more than therapy to fix this.
XXX
“You think he’s planning something?”  Ladybug asked when they lay back on their usual rooftop at the end of their patrol route.
Adrien’s stomach twisted.  There’d been no sign of an akuma for two weeks.
Father had been sick for two weeks.
Coincidence. Right?
“Maybe,” he mumbled, his tail twitching fitfully.  Then he sat up and shook his head.  “Actually, LB…”
“Yeah?” She sat up too, her gaze completely focused on him.  While he normally loved to be the center of her attention, right now he wished he had nothing to say.
“Remember when you thought… well, when you thought Gabriel Agreste might be Hawkmoth?”
She startled. “Why are you bringing this up now?”
“Well, um… I got a tip from uh… Adrien.  You know, Adrien Agreste?”
“Of course I know him, he’s—I-I mean, everyone knows Adrien, right?”  For some reason, her face looked pink in the moonlight.
“Right, right. Anyway… he was telling me he was worried about his father, and it’s kind of a long story… but it seems like he might have some… moth tendencies.”
Ladybug blinked.  It felt like a long shot, now that he said it out loud.  Stupid.  He was probably just overreacting.
“What kind of moth tendencies?”  She asked, her voice carefully guarded.
“Eating fabric. Staring at bright lights.  Being allergic to mothballs.”
“Mothballs?”  She laughed.  “Sorry, sorry, I believe you.  It’s just—wow. And here I thought my wanting to eat bugs was weird.”
“You? Weird? Never,” he joked to relieve some tension.  She believed him. She believed him, and that meant that he wasn’t just overreacting.  Which meant his father could be Hawkmoth.
He swallowed, trying to hide the hole that seemed to open in the pit of his stomach.
“So… you want to investigate him?  Even though he was akumatized?” Her mask furrowed around her brow, the way it tended to when she worked out her lucky charms.
“I don’t… I don’t know.”  He sighed and shook his head.  “It wouldn’t be easy.  Believe me, I’ve tried.”
“You—what?”
Oops.  Probably shouldn’t have mentioned that.
“It’s no big deal.  I just wanted to confirm some things for myself before taking Adrien’s word for it.”
“Adrien would never lie,” Ladybug was quick to say.
His lips quirked upward.  “I’m sure he’d be flattered to know you trust him.”
Her accusation of Gabriel before couldn’t have been from any kind of animosity towards him, then.  Unless it was animosity on his behalf?  Did he know how much his father isolated him? No, she’d have no reason to look that closely behind his model smile.
“So… why did you think Hawkmoth was Mr. Agreste before?”  He asked hesitantly.  Before she’d said it was a secret, and he hadn’t pressed her, but it seemed an even more serious matter now.  “We gave up the lead pretty fast last time.”
“Maybe too fast.”  She grimaced.  “I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to be true anyway… and as for why I thought that… I found a book that I learned belonged to him.  If he isn’t Hawkmoth, then it was my fault he became akumatized into the Collector.”
“No, it isn’t.  It’s only ever Hawkmoth’s fault, you know that.”  Adrien squeezed her shoulder, even as inwardly his mind was racing.  Ladybug had found his father’s book when he’d lost it?  How?  She had been there when Lila had been talking about it; maybe she’d had to double back for some reason?  “Wait—you’re telling me that book he was so attached to had something to do with Hawkmoth?”
Adrien had been the one with the book at first.  The one she’d seen with it.  Why did she trust him so much?
“Yes.  Master Fu took pictures of it before I returned it so Adrien—anyway.”  She waved her hands, as if all that wasn’t important, even though it definitely was.  Father had never mentioned Ladybug returning his book! “Master Fu said the book was lost at the same time as the butterfly and peacock miraculouses.  It’s not hard to assume they’d end up in the same place.”
Adrien was glad he wasn’t standing, because he probably would have fallen.  “That’s… a pretty big lead.”
“It really is.  I should have been more responsible about investigating.  Less selfish.”
He had no idea what she meant by that, but the crushed look in her eyes prompted him not to ask.
“If this is true, Adrien’s going to be heartbroken,” she murmured, quietly enough he wasn’t sure he was meant to hear.
She was right about that.  But there was no reason for her to feel bad because of it.
“Hey, he’s the one who gave me the tip, remember?  Maybe it won’t be such a shock to him.”
Huh.  He got all those words out with barely a crack to his voice.  Maybe he was in shock.
“Maybe.  But he’ll still be crushed.  I don’t know if he has any other family, and his mom is gone.  As awful as his father is, I just don’t know…”  She trailed off, shaking her head.
“I don’t know either.”
He hadn’t thought about it.  Any time his thoughts danced too close to the implications of his theory, they danced back just as quickly.  He had to be brave.  Ladybug was counting on him; Paris was counting on him.  It didn’t matter if one scared boy lost his father.
“So what… what do we do now?”  She asked, voice soft.  “We need proof, but I don’t know how to get it.”
Plans were normally her area of expertise.  If she didn’t know what to do…
“I don’t know.  Get a big lamp and hope it attracts him?”  He shouldn’t be joking right now, but it was the only thing distracting him from panicking.
(Nino’s family might take him in.  Or there was always the Gorilla. He wasn’t alone, he wouldn’t be alone—)
“You know, that’s actually not a bad idea.”
“Wait, it’s—it’s not?”  He blinked.
“No, it isn’t.  You’re a clever kitty when you want to be.”
He blushed under her praise and fought off a purr.  “Okay, so we draw him out with a big lamp.  If Hawkmoth really does have the same kind of side-effects as us, then it should work regardless of whether or not he’s transformed, right?”
“Right.  So the only question is how we get a lamp big enough to draw him out.”  Her gaze drifted across the rooftops, to the top of the Le Grande Paris hotel.  A smirk spread across her face.
“What are you thinking, Bugaboo?”
“I’m thinking I just answered that question.”
XXX
Gabriel jolted back into consciousness when his desk lamp winked out.  Impossible—the mansion had its own generator, mostly to keep the city from learning of his underground lair.
The lair.  Where Emilie was.
“Nooroo!”  He snarled, spitting the end of his tie out as he did.  Cursed side-effects; he could hardly go a day without chewing on the silk.  At least he could hide the end of it under his vest, which he hadn’t taken off even while in bed.  Better not to have Nathalie nagging him about his “habits” again.
“Yes, Master?”  His kwami weakly flew out from under his pillow.  Whatever illness Gabriel had contracted, Nooroo seemed to mirror.  A disconcerting fact, considering how Duusuu and Emilie had felt before her… well.
But he couldn’t take off his miraculous.  Not until his work was finished.  Unfortunately, with the incessant itching and cough that had plagued him for two weeks, he hadn’t been able to sense much negative emotion beyond his own.  He wasn’t sure that he could stand without wheezing and collapsing from dizziness.
That dizziness was clouding his mind already.  What was he doing again?
“Emilie,” he rasped.
“What about her, Master?”
“Go see if… no.  I need you with me. In case…”
He dissolved into a coughing fit.  Nooroo, the pathetic creature, only looked on in sympathy.
“Master, you aren’t well.  Perhaps if you removed my miraculous—”
“No!”  he snapped, making the kwami flinch.  “No.  Let’s… investigate the power outage.”
Fire flared across his skin as he threw his legs over the side of the bed.  Nooroo still hovered uselessly.  It was tempting to transform, but if his sudden illness was related to the miraculous, that would only exacerbate his condition.
One step in front of the other.  He would not be bested by this trifling inconvenience, not with Emilie on the line.
He stumbled through the door, bracing himself against the knob with an iron grip.  The generator never felt so far away.
“Master, you really should…”
Be quiet!  He would’ve shouted, but his voice was little more than a rasp now.  Everything spun.  Oh, if only Nathalie hadn’t gone home for the night!
Once he made it to the hallway, however, some of the fog cleared.  His lungs didn’t feel quite so tight.  But there was… something else.  A glow that hadn’t been visible from his room.  Through the window, like a beacon of warmth and light… Something that pushed against the darkness of his grief and rage…
His legs regained their strength the closer he grew to the light.  It involved actually going out through his front door, but that wasn’t so bad, was it?  It was near midnight, with barely a buzz of traffic, and… and the light.  How could he possibly sense any negative emotions when staring into its blinding fluorescence?
Dully he realized he should be worried about that—he needed those negative emotions if he wanted to save his beloved Emilie—but it was difficult to think beyond navigating the narrow alleyways to follow the bright beacon.  How was it still out of reach?  He swore it had been just outside his window, a halo of light, with just a few shadows dancing within… shadows in the shape of… some kind of insect…?
Before he could discern the image now glowing against the brick wall, something wrapped around him from behind.
“Gotcha,” a girl’s voice hissed.  The string binding him dug into his arms.
“It’s really him,” a boy breathed.
“Or he’s just crazy.  We haven’t ruled that out yet.”
“Unhand me at once!”  Gabriel shouted—tried to shout.  His voice still hadn’t fully recovered.    Nooroo was safely hidden in his jacket, and for a moment he considered transforming.  Why had he gone out without a bodyguard?  He’d made enough enemies even as a civilian; he should’ve known better, but that cursed light—the light that left spots in his eyes as a red-and-black arm reached down to unplug its source.
“Sorry, Mister Agreste.  Not until we check you for any mysterious jewelry.”
The girl spun him around, and he came face-to-face with his archnemesis herself.  It was difficult to keep the sneer off his face.
“Does the hero of Paris often accost civilians in the street?”
“Only when they show at least three signs of being Hawkbutt,” Chat Noir said from behind her.  He wore a sterile smile, one that clashed with the bitter green of his glinting scleras.
Gabriel shuddered.  He was just a child.  Nothing to be afraid of, even with the power of destruction curled within his ink-black ring.
Even when he apparently knew Gabriel’s identity.
“I’ll be reporting this to the authorities,” he still threatened as he processed the scene.  Ladybug and Chat Noir, confronting him in an alleyway with no witnesses.  A now-dark spotlight he now recognized as Queen Bee’s signal.  A red-and-black cord that must have been the hero’s Lucky Charm
They’d planned this.  They knew.
Still, he clung to the hope that they wouldn’t find his miraculous. Not when it was hidden under—
Ladybug tugged his half-eaten tie out from his vest.  “Wow, you weren’t kidding.  This is...”
She trailed off as her eyes caught the shine of purple beneath the red and white silk.  Beside her, Chat Noir froze.
“Nooroo, dark wings—!”
Chat Noir’s claw snagged the brooch before he could complete the phrase.  Nooroo zipped back into the miraculous, and Gabriel swore he heard the kwami sigh in relief.
This was… not ideal.
“It is you.”  Chat Noir’s hands shook—with rage?  Gabriel wouldn’t begrudge him that.  He instinctively moved to capitalize on that emotion before remembering he couldn’t akumatize anyone in his current state.
“Chat…?”  Ladybug reached out to him, and he turned to bury himself in her arms.
Gabriel thought it might provide an opportunity to squirm free from Ladybug’s string, but her grip on her yo-yo was just as tight as her grip on her partner.  He grit his teeth.  Surely there was a way out of this!  He couldn’t lose to two teenagers over—over chasing a spotlight!
“It’s okay.  I’m here,” the girl was consoling him, though the useless hero had barely done anything besides some quick sleight of hand.
“Yeah.  Yeah, it’s going to be okay.”  He sniffled and smiled softly at her.  Then his gaze sharpened to steel when he looked back at Gabriel.
“Come on, Father.  I hope they have good therapy in jail.”
