Inital D x Solatorobo Crossover AU

...because I warned you this was going to happen.

First of all, if you don't know what I'm talking about: Play Solatorobo. If for some reason you don't want to play this amazing 14 years old DS game, you can go watch this video about it. Please. Do it for me 👀

Additional thoughts (and robots) under the cut:

In this AU, the RedSuns are a hunter guild. They've specialised on escorting airships and fighting off sky pirates. The Takahashis are from a wealthy mostly merchant family based in Spinon, and their parents are not entirely thrilled about their occupation... but not un-thrilled enough to not fund the RedSuns, because they're at least quite useful in keeping their cargo ships safe.

Takumi is either from Spinon as well, or from Airedale. The tofu shop remains unchanged, and also the fact that Takumi is constantly being sent on deliveries with his dad's junker of a robot.

I have two different scenarios as to how he meets the brothers. Firstly, the one where he overtakes Keisuke, a lot like in the original. I mean, Solatorobo has a racing minigame, so I had to. It makes perfect sense that Ryousuke has his hunters partake in the Air Robo GP to refine their aerial maneouvering skills for sky pirate combat, so it could happen that Takumi on a delivery out-maneouvers Keisuke, who reacts just as well as he does in the show. Made even better by the fact that there is a cake delivery quest in the actual game using the racing minigame mechanics... but I digress

The second option is that the RedSuns get called to a passenger ferry that's currently under attack... but when they arrive, Takumi, who happened to be a passenger, already took care of the pirates. Ryousuke tries to recruit him on the spot, lol

I started making some robot designs for the brothers as well, but I abandoned that idea after Takumi's Hachiroku-mini-mech already took everything that I had:

At least for Takumi's robot, I tried to include some design elements from his car. I'm not very good at drawing mechs, let alone designing them... so if you want to see some proper car mechs, I redirect you towards Twi's IniD mech AU!

Anyway, Takumi is a caninu and the brothers are felineko, obviously. It's probably also obvious what cat species Ryousuke and Keisuke are (snow leopard and leopard are just too appropriate for them, lol). Takumi... well, I procrastinated on this for so long (because of the robots) that I forgot what dog breeds I looked at for reference, but I do remember one of them were St. Bernards. Floppy ears and a chill disposition.

This crossover has a grip on me.

Stranger Things Have Happened - Foo Fighters

Rowan groaned as she started to wake. Her pulse throbbed throughout her body, a metronome reminding her that she still lived. But it told her that something was wrong. Something was so terribly, terribly wrong.

She flexed her fingers. She could at least do that. Toes, ankles, wrists, elbows... She sat up. She didn't feel anymore dizzy or sick from doing that too quickly as she would if she hadn't -

"You made it," Ardbert said.

Rowan pinched the bridge of her nose. "Was there doubt that I would?"

"A world's worth of Light in one mortal body? Aye, of course there was. Ryne managed to stabilize you on the mountain top and your duplicitous wizard ran down the entire mountain and giant Talos with you in his arms."

She groaned. What was she going to do about Urianger?

"You're not going to like it, but you should see the sky."

More groaning, and Rowan opened the shutters. The sky was the bright, roiling mass of light it was previously.

"Your friends are taking care of the people. Making sure the populace doesn't mob you because you brought the Light back -"

Rowan felt heat and anger bloom. "I didn't."

Ardbert crossed his arms. "Well, you certainly didn't get rid of it."

"I am not the Ascian who set this -" she motioned to the sky, "- all into motion. Nor am I the one who had well over one hundred years to prepare and the knowledge of Allag at his fingertips and was only able to come up with a bloody secret suicide pact and drag a man more than willing to play the villain into it."

She turned, and found her armor neatly placed by the door. She grabbed her boots and a fresh pair of socks and began to suit up.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"I'm going to figure out how to get to the bottom of the Tempest so I can beat that smug look off of Emet-Selch's smarmy face."

"The place he told you to go to when you were ready to fully transform into an eater?"

Rowan rolled her eyes. "I'm not going to transform into a Sin Eater." She then winced as if glass broke within her rib cage. 

"To the library then?" Ardbert suggested gently.

"If I can even make it there..." She took as deep of a breath as she dared and walked to the door.

He shrugged. "Stranger things have happened, I suppose. And I'll be with you when you do it."

 do they really have to argue about it ? when they both know yongsun will soon be a whimpering mess on the bed and try his best to follow through korn's commands if he wants to come . he stares down at the younger while he undoes his belt , raises his brows too — ❛ didn't you say i'm boring when i'm not horny ? ❜  always talking about business and his darkened future . at least that's what yongsun thinks , korn's boyfriend and fiance didn't quite give him any space of comfort these days and he was tired of stressing over things . yongsun is beautiful , korn's old obsession with blondes came rushing into his lower organs . . he was captivated by his sweet looks and sweeter smiles . ❛ open your mouth . ❜  he mumbles a soft warning , his pants pooled around his ankles . korn sits at the edge of the bed , and holds yongsun's chin with one hand , the other gripping pale locks to pull his head backwards . once lips part , korn's thumb brushes under his lip , his tongue enters yongsun's mouth before he kisses him , messy but a slow pace , savoring his taste .

"Nnh, Pebbles," Suns squirmed, their legs spreading as their husband's hand traced over their thighs. Even without flesh and bone, their body crackled with the electricity of Pebble's touch. Every nerve endings was sparking in such embarrassing, but enticing ways.

"Come now Suns, what would the other iterators think-- if they knew how you melt in my arms?" Suns could hear the smirk in Pebbles's smug tone, and hated how their body shivered against it.

"You say youre emotionally inept..." Pebbles began, his fingers dancing over Sun's waist, against the more sensitive elastic. He pressed down, his fingers sinking into rubber material "But I think we just haven't found the right nerve endings."

Suns leaned back into Pebble's touch, shivering.

To be so big, and feel so small in Pebbles arms. To get the chance to be so small...truly; suns knew no better bliss.

"P-pebbles..."

Everyone looked to Suns for guidance, for authority. They stood tall above the other iterators, a grand and intimidating force. But despite the many who worshipped them, who sought their advice, there were things that Suns could never admit-- that they were still just as frail and in need of compassion as those who worshipped them.

The only person who seemed to understand this, was the one who defied Suns right at their conception. The moment he came online, Five Pebbles dared to question them, to doubt their superiority-- to seek his own independence.

Everyone worshipped Suns. But Suns-- Suns worshipped Pebbles.

Wuk Lamat: Oh Hawu'li loved Wuk Lamat right from first meeting her in Old Sharlayan. They are very similar in personality, and immediately bonded over food. She might've been a bit naiive, but so is Hawu'li, so he'd probably not even notice. She clearly loves her people and wants to help them - that's all you could ever ask from a leader, right? It was only when Gulool Ja Ja voiced his worries to him privately that he even thought to stop and think about everything for a while. Luckily she did a lot of growing on her own, eventually convincing everyone she really could handle this responsibility.

Koana: Funnily enough, Koana's aloof and a bit snobbish personality originally reminded Hawu'li a bit about his older brother, Hawu'to (researcher in Old Sharlayan). He loved his second brother to bits, but also often felt like he was a bit too stupid to understand what Hawu'to was talking about. Or to see his grand visions for future. Same with Koana - boy was clearly smart and had so many innovations, but felt a bit... mechanical? Bit too detached from the reality of someone who lives very "heart first brain second".

Later on, when Koana got to show consern for his sister and even went a bit feral to protect her there was this small "oh." in Hawu'li haha. He started paying more attention to the other catboy, took notice of the occasional awkwardness and kind heart beneath it, and started looking forward to meeting him again. I've not yet decided where they end up going forward, but they definitely kissed when Koana shows up in your inn room and are now, at the end of current msq, at some sort of "we'll explore this and see where it goes" situation.

Zarool Ja: Zarool Ja came off as very stoic and withdrawn, but not necessarily a threat? Sure, even Hawu'li raised his eyebrows a bit at this man's mentions of war and conquest, but in his "everyone means well" personality he just assumed Zarool Ja had some secret plan under it. Or that he was just a bit misguided, and would get the little jolt back to more peaceful track during the contest. How wrong he ended up being... Hawu'li honestly still feels pretty bad that he didn't take Krile's words serious enough. That he inadvertly caused the attack on Tuliyollal by ignoring the warning signs. It also reminded him of the whole thing with Zenos, making him a bit moody for a while (dw, he got over it after moping around a bit and talking about it with both G'raha and Krile), but in the end he once again had to accept that he wasn't responsible for actions of others and that Zarool Ja's hatred was as unyielding as Hawu'li's conviction to protect the peace.

Bakool Ja Ja: Hmm, Bakool Ja Ja was more of a bully right from the start, so Hawu'li actually felt like the man would deserve to get bonked with a staff a few times to teach him a lesson. Or like, a really long lecture. He did think that Bakool Ja Ja was young and possibly afraid of... something, causing him to act like that, but the actual reveal still came as a complete surprise. He felt sympathy, of course (as he always does), but still had this strong annoyance over his actions putting so many lives at risk just to get ahead in a competition. There definitely were some angry hissing and a long lecture after everything haha, but he hasn't given up hope that Bakool Ja Ja would change really after all this, like he seemed to be doing after the invasion.

i was wondering if you've read nightwing year one by chuck dixon, if so thoughts ? i have mixed feelings on how dick is charaterized but i do think the interactions between jason and him are super fun

I'm not gonna lie I can't remember much about it I read it a long while ago as it's part of the longer 1996 nightwing run so it all kinda gets mixed together I think I thought it was quite a basic retelling of nightwings origin with unnecessary changes tho iirc I was happy they didn't change it to dick hating Jason just bc he was the new Robin they did fight but that was more bc of Jason and dickw narratation was quite mean at times but apart from that your right they did have some very cute moments especially when they were train serfing and Jason kept falling off so dick had to keep catching him or the bit where Jason gives dick the night wing costume Alfred made which nice wee subversion of dick giving Jason the Robin costume in their og meeting otherwise eh forgettable
