Storia Di Musica #314 - Susan Tedeschi, Live From Austin TX, 2004

Caroline Mary Luard
Tumblr media
February 29, 2024
Caroline Mary Luard was born in 1850. On July 1, 1875 she married a man named Charles Edward Luard. On August 24, 1908, around 2:30 pm, Caroline and her husband left home and took their dog for a walk.
According to Charles, he wanted to go get his golf clubs from the clubhouse at Godden Green Golf Club, but his wife wanted to go get some exercise before returning home as she was expecting a Mrs. Stewart for afternoon tea.
At 3 pm, the pair separated, at a wicket gate by St. Lawrence's Church. The gate led down a path to a house called "La Casa" owned by neighbours of Caroline and Charles. It was considered a summer house. Past that, through the woods, would get Caroline home.
Charles was seen many times between 3-4 pm. At 3:20 pm, Charles was seen by Thomas Durrand at Hall Farm. Between 3:25-3:30 pm, he was seen by a labourer, around the golf links, and again seen by the same man about 5-10 minutes later. At 3:35 pm, he was seen by the Golf Club Steward on the links.
At 4:05 p, Charles met Rev. A. B. Cotton. Charles was carrying his golf clubs and the Reverend offered to take the clubs in his car. Around 4:25 pm, Charles was dropped off at Ightham Knoll.
When Charles got home, Mrs. Stewart was at the house waiting for Caroline. Charles, knowing Caroline should've made it home by now went to search for his wife. He found her at 5:15 pm, on the verandah of the summer home. The home was locked and empty. Caroline had been shot in the head, and 3 of her rings and purse were missing. The only thing found at the scene were some "disappearing footprints."
The estimated time of the murder was around 3:15 pm, when Charles would have been walking towards the golf clubhouse. Three shots were heard by two witnesses at that time. Annie Wickham and Daniel Kettel, both heard them.
Wickham said she heard the shots come from the direction of the summer house, she was only about 500 yards away from the location.
The inquest was held on August 26, 1908. Caroline had been initially hit on the head, which knocked her to the ground, and she vomited. Her killer shot her behind the right ear, with the second shot into her left cheek.
Charles did claim to have owned 3 guns, but he was unable to remember where he kept the ammunition for them. It was concluded that the bullets came from a .320 revolver, which was fired a few inches from Caroline's head at close range. A gun expert claimed none of Charles' guns would have been able to fire those bullets, since they were smaller.
One of Caroline's pockets had been ripped off her dress, and police were hoping that would lead them to her killer. The pocket was found by a maid on the day before the funeral, at Ightham Knoll. The maid had been shaking out the sheet in which Caroline's body had been carried back to the house. Caroline's 3 rings were never seen again, despite police hoping someone would pawn them.
Many people believed Charles had murdered his wife, and Charles received anonymous letters accusing him of such. Charles decided to leave the area, and was staying with Colonel Charles Edward Warde.
On September 18, Charles wrote a letter to his son, who was supposedly on his way back from South Africa, after learning his mother had died, as well as a letter to Colonel Warde. He then walked the railway line at Teston, hid in bushes, and then jumped in front of the train.
He pinned a note to his coat that read, "Whoever finds me take me to Colonel Warde."
Caroline's murder police believed was committed by someone she knew, and that it had been planned. They did not think the real motive was robbery. Charles death was ruled a suicide due to him being "temporarily insane."
Some people think John Dickman was Caroline's killer, in 1910 he was sentenced to death for murdering a man on a train.

Traditional Ice Fishing
Story: River Watchers (Part 1)
Words: Just under 500
Content: Near Drowning, Bad friends (kinda), Bad Caretaker(s) (also kinda mostly in upcoming chapters), Injuries, concussion, I think that’s it but let me know if I should add anything pls, also this is my first story I ever posted so if anything wrong just tell me
———
There was a time, many years ago, when Jonathan used to watch his family go ice fishing. His dad and two older brothers would get all their morning chores done, they would bundle up in the warmest clothing they owned, and they would come back hours later cold and wet yet somehow happy, carry buckets of savory fish for his mother and sisters to fry. Jonathan was just a small child then, to young to go with them, but he always wondered what exactly they were doing out there on the water.
This is what, he thought, as he slipped under into a deep, freezing black abyss. This is what they were doing.
Jonathan steeled his nerves and opened his eyes, only to regret it instantly when he was hit with an even greater rush of cold pressure as water rushed in. To make matters worse, it didn’t even help him see any better in the pitch black void of a river his buddies told him to go in.
I just need one fish, he told himself, as if making a promise to the world. One fish and I’ll win the bet.
Just minutes before this moment, Jonathan’s friends had told him to jump in the river and catch a fish.
“Come on, it’s traditional ice fishing. Everyone can do it! Or was your family so weak as to have never taught you?” One of them had jokingly mocked, daring him catch a fish the traditional way, even with the freezing cold and iced over river.
“Ha, of course I can. I’ll do it right now, in fact!” He proudly boasted before jumping in, neglecting the fact that he had never actually been taught traditional ice fishing before. His mother said it was too dangerous, after two of his brothers nearly drowned while fishing, and forbade him from doing it. He very much regretted neglecting that fact now.
His shoulder hit a rock protruding from the riverbank, but he was to numb to feel its impact, all sensations except for the cold and the darkness being overpowered by the water rushing around him.
It turned and tousled him around, leaving him without much control at all where he was going. To make matters worse, he did something wrong while diving in, and was now being swept away by the strong current. Just when he was beginning to consider panicking, he hit the ice on the surface of the river hard.
That was when he remember that the word ‘ice’ in traditional ice fishing was not there for exaggeration, and he began to stop considering panicking and start actively panicking.
Air. Air. Air. I need Air. His mind screamed at him, but no matter how much he tried, he just couldn’t break through the solid barrier of ice on the top of the river. Is this… really the end? He thought. His mother, father, brothers, sisters, everybody he’s ever known, would this really be the last they’d see of him?
No- not like this- Was his last thought. He intended on continuing it, but was robbed of the chance when the current swept his head into a sharp rock, ending what was probably the worst few moments in his entire lifetime.
———
When Jonathan came to, his head was pounding in agonizing pain, his clothes were sopping wet, and his body unapologetically shaking as if he were a clothes washer on high. Sounds buzzed from behind him, but he couldn’t make out what they were saying, or if they were saying anything at all. He could feel something lightly touch his shoulder, and he let out a small moan of pain as it moved ever so slightly.
“Thomas, Annie’s telling me that there’s somebody there. We have to check it out. They could be hurt!” Jonathan could faintly make out somebody saying in the distance.
“Are you sure, Nina? Their probably dead if they washed up from the river this time of year. It’s been frozen over for the past week.” A man, presumably Thomas, said calmly.
“I know, but what if we’re not? We can’t just let somebody die on our research site!” The other voice, that he could know make out to be a young woman, replied indignantly.
“Very well. Let’s hurry, then.” Thomas replied. Jonathan could start to hear hurried footsteps in the distance as they sped up toward his location.
Jonathan opened his eyes carefully, not wanting to disturb the relative comfort he had too much. There were ice crystals on his  eyelashes, that pulled apart with an odd sensation.
As he opened his eyes, he saw two people rounding the corner, quickly hurrying toward him. The man and woman were both wearing matching light grey coats and black snow boots, and the man had a brown leather backpack on, while the woman was carrying a clean white box in her arms. She let out a gasp as she then ran toward him, dropping the box at his side.
“Oh my gosh! Who are you? Are you hurt? Thomas, do you have any first aid supplies in your rucksack?” The woman who was probably named Nina asked hurriedly, worry plaguing her voice.
“Of course I do.” Thomas replied smoothly, jogging over to where Jonathan laid on the ground and setting down his pack in front of himself. “It’s a mandatory item for excursions, and I knew you weren’t bringing your rucksack considering you brought Annie with you.”
“Oh, right!” The woman exclaimed while the man pulled a first aid kit out of his backpack, as if just having remembered something. “Annie, return.”
A small robotic drone flew into the box that the woman was carrying, before making an electronic chime the likes of which Jonathan had never heard before.
“Wh-what’s that?” Jonathan asked weakly, he teeth chattering so much that he could hardly talk. Immediately after, Thomas stuck a thermometer in his mouth, immediately silencing him.
“Shh, don’t worry about it. Your body temperature is incredibly cold, and you’re probably injured after bumping into a rock or several down there. You’re very lucky we found you, you know. Now, are you injured anywhere?” He said calmly and reassuredly, as if nothing was ever wrong in the world, before pulling the thermometer out of Jonathan’s mouth.
A/N: That’s the first part of River Watchers! Expect the next part in a couple of days. I’m so glad to be posting whump after lurking for so long. Also, pls tell me if you have any criticism or think I should change something, I always welcome advice!

❤️‍🩹 Reunited after a long time apart
It was done.
Voltari still found it hard to believe, even now as he was on his way upstairs to open the Chamber doors for the Elders. Cuddly Dick had been defeated and the other Overlords rounded up and secured. Their plan had actually worked and Voltari – Voltari was free. No more mind games, no more torture and punishment dealt out with sickening smiles, no more constant vigilance. For the first time in his life, he could just be, and the realisation hit him so hard that his steps faltered on the stairs and he had to stop and take a deep breath to calm his racing heart.
There was, of course, still the lingering fear that the Elders, now that they had no use for them anymore, would go back on their word and not pardon him and Dissectus like they had promised. A lifetime of mistrust made it difficult, nearly impossible, for him to believe in the good of people now. But Voltari wanted to believe. He wanted to believe so badly even though he and Dissectus probably didn’t deserve a second chance – definitely didn’t, Voltari amended, thinking of all the things he’d been forced to do to survive in a world where showing even the smallest sign of weakness could mean certain death. But that didn’t stop him from wanting a new life, a better one – one without secrets, pain and loneliness. And after what he’d been through these last few weeks he wasn’t below begging the Elders for it.
His ruined eye began to throb under the eye piece, a painful reminder of everything he was walking away from right now. Voltari resisted the urge to reach up and rub at the mutilated skin as he continued on his way: up the stairs, then down the winding hallways until he finally reached the large wooden doors that had held him prisoner this whole time. His hands were shaking when he inserted the key and pulled them open.
The Elders were waiting outside and turned towards him as one. Voltari couldn’t deny his surprise when they all broke out into smiles, almost as if he was a long lost friend they hadn’t seen in a while. One of them, the scribe, let out a noise of unbridled excitement before she came forward and threw her arms around him in a hug.
Voltari froze.
“Oh, sorry,” she said in embarrassment and hurried to step back. “I’m just so grateful to be home again!”
With that, she shuffled past him, the others close behind her. Voltari blinked after them, not quite able to comprehend what had just happened, before the soft clearing of a throat drew his attention back to the person behind him.
“You’ll get used to them,” Dissectus said, a smile tugging at his lips, and Voltari forgot how to breathe. He drank in the sight of his oldest, his only friend like a parched man, cataloguing all the things that were different about him; from the dark blue tunic he now wore in place of his uniform to the lack of make-up on his face. He looked gentler without both, Voltari thought, and lovelier if such a thing was even possible.
Something eased in his chest, then; something that had been tightly coiled ever since Cuddly Dick had summoned them for the first time and grown incredibly painful when Dissectus had left him behind to provide a cover for Negatus and secure their future. Without warning, tears pricked at his eyes and Dissectus’s face softened in spite of Voltari’s attempts to swallow them.
“It’s okay,” he said in a tone that had only ever been reserved for the privacy of their bedchambers before, the only places they could allow themselves to be vulnerable. “It’s over, Tari. We made it.”
Voltari knew that, of course. Yet hearing Dissectus say it was different, somehow; made it more tangible and real. He exhaled shakily and a moment later found himself drawn against a warm chest with more gentleness than Dissectus had ever shown openly before. Arms came up around his back, and when one of Dissectus’s hands found its way into his hair, Voltari closed his eyes and let his head be guided onto one shoulder.
“It’s over,” Dissectus murmured again and this time, Voltari didn’t fight the tears. He curled his fingers into the soft fabric of Dissectus’s tunic and let the tension, fear and pain of the last few weeks fall away from him. It was a much needed moment of comfort, even if it only lasted briefly before Voltari pulled back. Ducking his head to hide the redness around his eye, he gestured at the doors. “We should head inside. There’s still much work to be done.”
“Of course,” Dissectus said gracefully. His soft smile said that he had seen right through the deflection and was choosing not to mention it – just as he was choosing not to mention the angry marks around Voltari’s eye piece or the way Voltari’s hands were still trembling faintly in the afternoon light.
Voltari had quite forgotten what it felt like to be seen, but rather than letting it unsettle him, he revelled in the sensation and allowed himself a small smile as they took the first steps of their new lives together.

Unit Teambuilding - Battle Tower (Alt) Leon
I hate that it’s alt, but I guess “Battle Tower Leon” is a lot more to write out, so they went with Alt Leon.  Sure.  Thankfully, he got the cool outfit, and the cool Ghost Pokemon, so he’s-Dragon type?  Really?  Come on.
General Overview Leon is a Dragon Tech, who really should’ve been a Striker.  Leon’s main selling point is Dragon Darts, an effectively 200BP move.  This is excellent, and is actually stronger than SS Serena’s Core Enforcer.  With just this and a trainer move that performs the standard +4/+3 self buff, and an excellent speed tier of over 500 with +1 speed on TM, Leon really didn’t need for much more.  But he got it, in Piercing Blows.  Not only is his damage excellent, his gauge control is strong, and his damage cannot be stopped.  Adding a Max Move for burst damage makes this even more threatening.  Impervious, while generally inconsequential, does permit Leon some tools that will likely do well in Gauntlet.
So why do I not feel as impressed with him?  I think it comes down to expectation vs reality.  Leon’s a Tech, and his conditions are...painful.  Burn requirement but no Go Viral until 4/5, and needing as many debuffs as possible but only getting maybe 4 at a time is incredibly damning.  His opening sync is very slow acting and kind of a pain, and legitimately I think it’s less worth it to run his Buddy move if he’s the star of the show.  Just throw out Dragon Darts, it’ll do more.  His sync damage is around the standard for Tech, which means a bit better than Lucas and Drasna but not as good as Anni Raihan or C!Iris.
Leon is still really good.  I love debuffs, so I’m kinda partial to the kit, but he’s also really...odd.  He reminds me a bit of SS Cyrus, in the sense of “pick one thing and only do that.”  If he’s supporting another striker, just spam Buddy move.  If he’s dealing damage, just spam Dragon Darts.  There’s basically no reason to ever burn someone yourself.
EX and Move Level? Because he’s a Tech, EX is generally recommended.  That said, I do stand by the belief that his strength is DPS and having a Max Move.  1/5 is likely serviceable.  His sync multipliers are a rough time anyway, and he’s not getting great boosts to DPS since it’s only Burn Synergy 3, which is hard to set up.  I don’t agree with it.  But, there is a strong case to be made for 4/5, sadly.  Go Viral is legitimately fantastic when you’re running Burn multipliers and...*sigh*...Breaking Swipe: Hit Burned Opp Stat Down 9.  Guys, I know these skills are meant to be descriptive so people know what they do, but can be please just go back to using keywords?  You sound ridiculous.
Team 1: Alt Leon, H!Caitlin, Lucas Did someone say caps crit but needs a bit of attack?!  Hello naughty children, it’s Caitlin time!  Truth be told, she’s likely overkill, you can use something lower tier than that, but favoritism.  Lucas is chosen for the Zone, but admittedly, this is an issue with Leon.  He’s physical, and the Dragon Zone is special.  CS demands reallocation of points as a result.  Which isn’t great, but it’s manageable if desired.
Team 2: Alt Leon, V!Agatha/Bugscyther, H!Morty/V!Kiawe If only Bugscyther were real.  Anyway, the focus of this is on Leon’s sync.  H!Morty is a decent partner here, thanks to Spread Burn.  V!Kiawe can at least set up Power Play, and with Defense Crush lucky skill, actually contributes meaningfully to anything.  Bugscyther tops off attack and gets Leer debuffs, but in absence of him, any defense debuffing support like V!Agatha can work out.
Team 3: Alt Leon, Skyla One of the nice things about Leon is that he has Piercing Blows, and the ability to debuff, making him a pretty solid Gauntlet Duo choice.  Skyla in particular is great.  Defense buffs complement his attack debuffs, and the speed keeps gauge rolling.  Potion for survival, and you’re set to go.
Team 4: Alt Leon, C!Iris, Sonia Alt Leon’s debuffs are basically a buffed Leer that deals respectable damage in addition.  It’s a worthwhile consideration!  It’s especially worthwhile when you’re dealing with a partner who can hit for roughly eleventy billion damage on a single target, provided some debuffs are present.  C!Iris is a great partner to Leon.  Leon’s DPS is super strong, but C!Iris is the sync nuking monster that capitalizes on it all.  I actually ran this exact team this morning, with Leon 1/5, and we actually cleared before Iris could sync.  Leon’s spread damage is very respectable, and Iris’ Dragon Rush is more than enough to kill on-type.
Final Thoughts Here’s a question for you.  It’s the month before anniversary.  All of this is bait, and you might be looking at your gem stash, cautiously considering whether it’s really worth it to get any of these new pairs.  What does Leon offer you that doesn’t already exist?  That you don’t already have?  AoE Atk/Def/Spd debuffing?  SC Steven does that while pumping your damage up to infinity.  Burn?  Not until 4/5 he doesn’t, and SS Lysandre is far more significant for off-type clears given the absurdity of his damage and Buddy move.  Dragon damage?  It’s top of the chart, but I don’t think it’s necessary to pick up.
I think Leon is good; very good, even.  If you’re a paying player looking to pick something up this month, he’s not a bad choice.  But if you’re not?  If you’re saving for anniversary?  Why break for him?  What’s he offering that doesn’t exist elsewhere?  Is this necessary?  And if it is...do you need anything beyond 1/5?

Sold-out.

Happy Birthday to the Gaelic Folk sing Julie Fowlis.
Julie Fowlis is a multi-award winning Gaelic singer who is deeply influenced by her early upbringing in the Outer Hebridean island of North Uist. With a career spanning five studio albums and numerous high profile collaborations, her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world.
Nominated as ‘Folk Singer of the Year’ at the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and ‘Best Artist’ at the Songlines World Music Awards, Julie is a warm and engaging live performer who has graced stages around the world, from village halls in the Highlands to stages in New York, The Philharmonie de Paris and Shakespeare’s Globe in London.  Recent invitations to perform have included a return to world-class Festival of Voice in Cardiff, the World Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, Morocco, to collaborate with the BBC Concert Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall for the Proms and to support Scottish icons ‘Runrig’ to an audience of 50,000 during their farewell concert weekend in August 2018. She sang live at the closing ceremony of the Ryder Cup in Chicago in 2012 to a TV audience of 500 million, an event that was only eclipsed by singing live at the opening ceremony of the Glasgow XX Commonwealth Games in 2014, to a TV audience of over 1 billion people.
Since of the release of her otherworldy album ‘alterum’ in 2017, she has been in demand – touring with the world-class Transatlantic Sessions, sell-out shows in London and throughout the UK, and is currently working on a major new 14-18 commission with celebrated Highland musician Duncan Chisholm, commemorating 100 years since the ‘Iolaire’ tragedy.
She will forever be recognised for singing the theme songs to ‘Brave’, Disney Pixar’s Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning animated film, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland. The track was recorded when Julie was eight months pregnant with her second child, and has since been a worldwide smash hit, and the song ‘Touch the Sky’ was indeed long listed for an Oscar nomination in 2013.
Julie’s latest album, Alterum was released in 2017, as well as songs by Annie Briggs and Archie Fisher it  featured traditional songs arranged by Fowlis and her production team.
Julie made history as the first Gaelic solo artist to win a Scottish Music Award in December 2014.
In January this year  Julie released an EP  a new three-track  which feature a number of special guests, was recorded to accompany the Source To Sea podcast series in which Lee Craigie and Jenny Graham travel the length of three major Scottish rivers (The River Dee, River Tay and River Clyde).
Julies voice sends shivers up your spine, I have chosen  Smeòrach Chlann Dòmhnaill (‘The Mavis of Clan Donald’).  It’s a scottish gaelic song in which the poet praises Sleat MacDonalds and North Uist. It was composed by John MacCodrum (Iain Mac Fhearchair 1693–1779) one of the earliest of the “village poets”‘, who penned it as an ‘antiquarian’ re-creation of the Celtic bard Ossian in the 1760s

Carole King
Tumblr media

League of Legends Patch Notes – 13.7 Update Nerfs Meta Junglers, Phew
Tumblr media
As we approach MSI there’s a new round of League of Legends patch notes to sink our teeth into – literally, as the MOBA‘s beloved Cats vs Dogs skinline has made a comeback post-April 1. If you pick up the Nidalee skin you’ll probably get the chance to make good use of it, as meta junglers Lee Sin, Sejuani, and Vi are taking the nerf hammer to the face in 13.7. Lee Sin, Sejuani, and Vi all get nerfed I’d be a liar if I said writing that didn’t give me an awful sense of satisfaction. All three junglers have dominated the meta – especially in pro play – and as a result are getting taken down a few pegs ahead of MSI. Lee Sin’s base attack damage and armour have been knocked down by a couple of points each, and Vi has been shifted towards AD to negate her building tank items but dealing out huge amounts of damage. Sejuani’s Arctic Assault (Q) and Glacial Prison (R) now also have longer cooldowns, and her passive’s damage cap has been decreased to stop her easily beating up epic monsters like drakes and the Baron. League of Legends patch notes – 13.7 update Below are the champion changes from League of Legends patch 13.7, as well as a list of any upcoming skins and chromas. While the Cat vs Dog skins aren’t for me – thankfully I won’t need to check how much I’ve spent on League of Legends this month – those jungle changes (especially the Lee Sin ones) absolutely are. Hopefully it knocks some of the more meta junglers down the League of Legends tier list a bit, and lets some new faces rise to the top – specifically Evelynn. I like Evelynn. Read the full article

“Mister Moneybags” Annie Besson
Tumblr media
Emojis: 🚹 💰
Name: “Mister Moneybags” Annie Besson
Pronouns: She/Her (He/Him when the mood strikes)
Nicknames (insulting): That bitch, that bastard
Nicknames (affectionate): That bitch, that bastard , Genderfuckery Icon, Queen, King
Character Profile: Daughter of the original Mister Moneybags, Annie Besson opted to keep her father’s nom-de-guerre wholesale rather than alter it into a variant like “Miss Moneybags” or “Madame Moneybags”. Proud inheritor of her father’s legacy, Annie Besson brings the same swaggering confidence to her work. Able to rouse the anger of any crowd with a well placed flex or cutting insult (garnished with a soupçon of a French accent), the modern Mister Moneybags makes a fine antagonist in any storyline. Unlike her father, Annie favours a hard-hitting Strong Style enriched with a variety of infuriating holds. Mister Moneybags’ preferred tactic is to target one spot of her opponent’s repertoire (be that the limb they need for their finisher or a weakspot) and to work it until she can end the match with one smug and devastating hold. Prospective opponents should be warned against challenging her confidence, however, as an enraged Mister Moneybags has been known to lose matches on a DQ by breaking her opponent’s limb. While laying her opponents out for months on end while they recover always incurs a heavy fine, they don’t call her Mister Moneybags for nothing. Indeed on several occasions she has simply tossed a wad of cash to the ref with a smug grin on her face while her injured opponent is being carted out on a hospital gurney.
Finisher: The Torture Rack (called the Torture 500), the Backbreaker (inhereted from her father, called the Bankbreaker). Bankbreaker into Torture 500 is a combination reserved only for her most hated foes.
Design: Just as I had decided to make a concerted effort to add more women to the roster… I rolled up the Mensroom and a Moneybag. Thus while the title “Mister Moneybags” immediately sprung to mind I decided to take it in a more Charlotte Flair inspired direction and have her be an inheritor to the mantle. Other than that my aim with Annie Besson was simply to create a BEEG BUFF WOMAN whom you would thank for breaking your arm, and I think I succeeded. The Mister Moneybags logo was fun to design as well, consisting of a dollar symbol and a mars symbol merged into one.

14/01 BMB Bon Jovi Tribute Band fa scatenare Caballo Loco - Seriate (BG)
//

Unit Teambuilding - Champion Marnie
"What’s my favorite type?  Dark, of course!”  Marnie you had four alts and zero Dark-types.  What is your response to this?  Apparently catching Galarian Moltres.  That’s a pretty good answer.  And I really like this dress, this is my favorite look for her.
General Overview Champion Marnie is a Master Fair with some absolutely batshit firepower.  500 base special attack is always absurd.  Fiery Wrath is a more powerful Dark Pulse.  She gets Protect for some reason.  Her trainer move is +6 special attack, +4 speed, +2 evasion, and Endurance, but she loses 10% HP.  Which kicks off her Mind Over Matter 4 passive that grants 40% more special attack.  Note, this is not a 40% damage buff.  Meaning this scales to 20/20, includes Dark-type gear, and potential matched theme skills.  Hitting over 900 special attack with her is not just possible, it’s likely routine.  But of course, there’s more.  A lot more.
Her other passives give +3 crit on entry, Head Start 1, 40% recovery when she first hits under 50%, and then also +3 stacks of special moves up next when she hits that same HP threshold.  This then leads to her Buddy Move, Buddy Fiery Wrath.  When a sync move is used, this move activates.  200BP.  Hits all foes.  50% chance to flinch.  Piercing Blows and Extend Range but also the flinch chance isn’t reduced with multiple targets either.  Also it ignores all passives that would reduce damage or prevent crits.  So it’s the midpoint between SST Red and SS Lysandre, a powerful AoE nuke that cannot be stopped, and is repeatable use but not spammable.  Oh, and keep in mind, Galar Spirit.  This move will truck stages.  And that’s before grid adds sync and move damage multipliers for being under 100% HP, and adds Super Preparation 9 on Protect for no real reason.  Marnie’s damage is really, really good.  Oh, but don’t get it twisted.  Damage is not all she does, for that Endure effect?  3/5 grid offers her the ability to guarantee a second Endure.  With that and Protect, we have another Ash situation on our hands.  Marnie is at that level, no question in my mind.  Sure, Buddy move doesn’t reach the same single-target DPS, but she’s also wildly more disruptive than Ash is, and has less competition in the type.
If there is a reason to not acquire Marnie, and there’s...there’s really not a great one...it’s the buddy move condition.  If it were the same as SST Red, then there would be no question.  But its inconsistent use means that she doesn’t truck every Legendary Arena, and therefore must play by some of their rules.  The fact her buddy move can miss is a particularly notable limitation from being impossible to stop, as it means this doesn’t remove the threat of Cresselia or Latias.  There’s also something to be said for gauge issues.  Even with +4 speed, a four-bar spam can be hard to supplement for dual strike.  But I’m also being wildly nitpicky.  Marnie’s damage is nothing short of ridiculous, and the fact that all of it comes with a coin flip or better odds to flinch really makes her quite the disruptive powerhouse as well.
EX and Move Level? Marnie is, thankfully, a return to Master Fairs that function at 1/5 just fine.  After the frogs, I was worried.  Her only love in 3/5, aside more more multipliers, is Aggravation 2 on Fiery Wrath.  Which is nice.  But you know what stops attacks better than flinch?  Killing them.  It’s also worth noting that, with her power, the buddy move is probably gonna clear sides.  So EX is also not a requirement at all.  She’s that good at what she does.
Team 1: C!Marnie, SS Cyrus, SS Brendan You ever just want to see how far you can push the numbers?  Cyrus provides Zone, SS Brendan has special defense debuffs on his main move.  Go ham.
Team 2: C!Marnie, Anni Raihan, Sawyer/Cheren Marnie has Head Start 1 in her kit, and that means Anni Raihan fast-ramping is a possibility.  Mind Boggler 9 also means debuffs to special defense, if you need them.  Sawyer is a Dark-type support for theme skills, and can supplement another potential flinch, while Cheren is listed to bring up the fact Marnie is so strong you’ll probably still win anyway.
Team 3: C!Marnie, Brycen/Lisia, Cheren/Evelyn Anti-Latias, potentially Anti-Cresselia.  The main thing to keep in mind with Marnie is that she can miss, and otherwise checks no gimmicks.  As such, you really, really want to be on top of evasion debuffing against fights that try to play that game.  Brycen is the F2P champ of this with Haze, while Lisia offers an interesting role as a tank tech unit that can probably last long enough given Marnie’s abilities.  Cheren is actually relevant here, as he has Full Heal to clear out status against Cresselia, but in the case of Latias who is more likely your threat, I’m bringing up Evelyn because of Gradual Healing and defense boosts to take Latias’ repeated hits and Sure Crit +4 Earthquake.  Granted, Evelyn is likely a poor choice, but I couldn’t think of a support that gave everyone Gradual Healing and was a better fit.
Final Thoughts Marnie’s one of those units that defines what it means to be a striker, due to her ridiculous offensive threshold.  However, I think it’s also interesting that Marnie got such a good flinch rate too.  We see this pretty often, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen it take the form of such wild numbers.  Usually it’s like...Dark Pulse or Iron Head.  Respectable moves, but nothing near damage numbers like she’ll be pumping out.

#Uncool500 - the big list (part 1)
Remember the #Uncool50 music biography I did in October and November? A lot of other people did it as well, and contest sponsor @[email protected] has compiled a full #Uncool500 from our nominations.
Each nomination was worth 10 points, but we could each nominate four singles for 11 points, and one song for 12 points. ("Since yesterday" was my 12-pointer, the 11s went to "Constant craving", "You oughta know", "The middle", "Bulletproof".)
Ties are broken in a lot of ways. It's all inspired by "This is Uncool", a handbook of great singles from the last quarter of the 20th century. Anything in that book gravitated to the top of the tie; anything from this century followed, and songs from the 20th century and not in the book came further down.
@nonoxcol decided to use the "split vote quotient", acts that had a lot of songs nominated once or twice went ahead of acts with just the one big hit. Where a player had nominated the same act three or more times, the singles they'd nominated got relegated to the bottom of the tie - this happened to Duran Duran a lot.
Finally, @nonoxcol used editorial discretion to freshen up the 20 points section - 55 of about 350 singles were selected to represent decades other than the 1980s, and genres other than indie-rock. As I feared in my index post provocation, the largest minority on Music Twitter tends to be male, pale, and - if not stale - then certainly stuffy.
This post covers positions 500 to 227, songs qualifying on no more than three nominations. Positions 226 to 109 and 108 to 1 are in other posts.
