Its funny how the second bonnie was being recongized for her power, we get a bunch of “powerful” white witches IN FUCKING NEW ORLEANS OF ALL PLACES??? (really julie if you wanted to pick a location with magical background use salem mass, oh wait then you might have to include mentions of the bennetts if you actually recall s1 dialogue actually how is there no mention of bennetts in one of the biggest witch communities esp since the supernatural talk)
(Vincent really the only powerful magic user consistently shown Ntm how rushed inandu/werewolf lore was oh well!)
Mind you even though plec wanted them to be powerful if you really look at it their not. Which is the opposite of bonnie predicment because she’s constantly shown to be powerful but the narrative tries to tell you she not(with the nosebleeds🙄)
No one ever compares hope to her family witches, i never seen anyone try to compare davina and freya magic even though the originals at one point makes a dig about davina not understand freya magic yet everyone compares every other witch to Bonnie because deep down they know she’s as powerful as its gets
-
Davina- had four harvest girls magic in her and her magic is ancestral magic and nola witches cant pratice magic outside of nola
Dahlia and Freya- dahlia immortality spell is legit the worse spell in the game. Wydm you’re only live life awake for 10years and you physically age. The fact that the magic was building up between them and her/freya most powerful moments were them linked… i dont find her all that impressive first how much knowledge can you retain of magic something that everychanging in one year, realistically even if you were powerful you would have no expertise. Might i mention that dahlia and her whole coven couldn’t protect themselves from humans, and esther couldn’t or wouldnt stop/neutralize mikael from being an abuser. I doubt their descendants have much magic

how do you have esther (a villain, who's supposed to be in the wrong) say that elijah hurts every woman he loves and instead of proving her wrong you make elijah responsible for hayley's death???

The Vampire Diaries opinions people hate me for:
Forwood is actually a good ship and I wish it didn't have to go down like that, at the expense of Caroline's character.
I ship Klaroline; but Klaus was toxic. I could only ever see this ship becoming endgame if Klaus redeemed himself first.
Caroline had chemistry with everyone except Stefan.
Bamon had potential (and it was literally in the books). If they had come up with a "I had my humanity off" plotline it would have made the ship work🤷🏻‍♀️
Bonezo is a good ship and is clearly less toxic than Bamon; but it only happened to please racist dullena fans that complained about Bamon's romantic implications(even if it happened in the books)
Caroline, Katherine, Bonnie, & Stefan are the most interesting characters of TVD
Jeremy & Anna were cute IDK🤷🏻‍♀️
Matt did not deserve the hate. His feelings were valid. All his friends were killers and he was an abandoned, heartbroken boy, whose mom was a drunk and pedophile, and his only sister & family was killed by the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend who he loved alot, just cause he decided he was bored. He remained loyal & brave to his friends and they didn't account for their murders and killings & stopped caring for the innocent.
Alaric was not a bad father and teacher. Even if he had his slip-ups he was actually an interesting & good character.
Damon is way too defended In this fandom. People should like the character and not defend the wrongs?! Just how many women has he compelled to sleep with him and to let him drink their blood? And what about what he did to Aaron whitmore? He slaughtered entire families of Innocents even while dating Elena. So all that "sHe mAkEs hiM bEtTeR" crap, is not valid. You can like Ian's acting and the smugness of his character, & like the character for those reasons, without defending the terrible acts of the character.
Delena was a horrible ship. The only reason it's popular is due to the shallow fact that people see Ian as more handsome than Paul. The ship only has good chemistry and looks. Beyond that, there is nothing.
Stefan is still the better man. (Fried humanity/off humanity Stefan don't count just as it goes for all the other vampires) Gaslighting writing through the other characters won't change that(Nice try, Julie P)🤷🏻‍♀️
Alaric and Jo were really cute together. I don't care. They made epic twins together.
Elena is overloved; but overhated at the same time. It's annoying. Just love the kind human girl that she used to be and hate the vicious, selfish girl she became, without hating her for breathing. That simple.
Klelijah(Katherine x Elijah) is not a good ship. Katherine loved stefan. She was only using Elijah to survive, and back then she only pitied him. Elijah also only was with her because of what he did to Tatia
Katherine did deserve better though, even if she did bad things. Making her the biggest/& ultimate devil and pretending there wasn't any good in her was incredibly misogynistic. Like Damon & Klaus did worse things and they get happy lives and good character ends? Like No! Horrible! Katherine's core was a scared little girl who wanted to live a normal human life while still being powerful and beautiful. She was chased for 500 years, had to see her entire family slaughtered, lost a baby because of misogynistic expectations, found her again, just to see her last family die again. Did she do horrible things? Yes; all to survive. But she also saved Jeremy, Damon, Stefan, encouraged Elena to be honest about what she felt for Damon even when she didn't have to.
Caroline did annoying things; but overall she was an interesting character. And she was way too smart and strong as a vampire. I loved seeing it.
Bonnie deserved so much more than the show gave her. I hope she gets her own show one day. A show about witches would be pretty lit.
Rebecca could have tried harder to be kinder and less evil. I get she had centuries of habits she needed to break but still. (Elena stabbing her in the back was still shit though)
Klaus was evil to his default and was an abuser to his family. I'm glad he changed/died for hope; but still I would have been nice if there were other factors to this action.
They shouldn't have thrown away the good of Elijah Mikalson. He didn't deserve that. The way they also tried to pull a Stefan on him.
Haylijah was a cute ship🤷🏻‍♀️
Esther wasn't wrong about her children being evil as vampires. And what she wanted to do with them was have them live as humans.
What the originals did to Marcel was fucked up
What the originals did to Davina was cruel
I wish we could have seen more of the witch that played "the hollow".
Glamorizing Hope's evil side is not "a flex". Again, like the character & actor art; but not the vicious actions.
Hosie should have been canon
That random new original sister was so unnecessary.
Kolvina is the most interesting ship of the entire TVDverse I wish there was more of them
All TVD ships were good I just find: Steroline, Delena, & Klamille to be cringe. Steroline only happened to compensate Forwood/& Klaroline and justify Delena. And Delena only happened because of looks and the love story was trash. Klamille was also a compensation ship to Klaroline so yeah, cringe.
TVD writing, lore, acting, cinematography,. directing is all a 10. The only thing that is trash is the ending and all the romantic entanglement the show had.
Warning: This isn't to start an agree to disagree party. This post is just so that those that agree with me can high-five with me. If you disagree, don't even bother commenting on this post. Everything is a matter of perception & perspective. I'm just sharing mine, while venting. By jumping on this post to fight with me you are immediately self-labeling yourself as entitled. When Kol dies you turn your humanity off but he comes back and tries to get you to turn it on but doesn't have to try that hard. She tries to face what she's done, (she didn't kill anyone while her humanity was off), reader did hurt people though. Kol tries to help her through it.

his death
"I will not fall to your knees because you think she is the cure, Mother!" Kol yells to his Mother angrily, Elijah trying to help his younger brother by pulling him away.
Yet his Mother's wrath was stronger than anyone anticipated.
"Then if I cant make you, I'll make everyone else." Esther says through her gritted teeth "NO MOTHER" Elijah yelled but it was too late because in the blink of an eye, Kol's heart was out of his chest as his body fell to the ground.
Without hesitation, I reach down to the depths of my heart. Flipping the one switch I swore never to touch.
I stare coldly at the Mikaelsons, snapping Camille's neck before scurrying off.
months later
Drinking out of a young female's wrist, I hear a knock at my door. Things hadn't changed much around here, besides the mass amount of blood I found, somewhere in my apartment.
"if you've come to weep about something, that's not me." I groan biting one of the girl's fingers off before getting up to walk to the door as the girl screams in pain "oh shut up its one lousy finger, i'll fix it you fucking wi-" I turn my head, to face the person at my door.
I didn't want to say I was shocked, nor did I want to say hello. Instead, I closed the door on the face of the man I thought dead.
"turns out my siblings didn't lie." he said stopping the door from slamming in his face "your siblings lies." I say coldly, "uhuh" he nods looking at my house "I didn't exactly tell you to come in, Mikaelson." I scoff at him as he nods smacking his lips "You don't need to invite me in y/n darling." he smiles at me and I dismiss him by rolling my eyes, continuing to devour the now bleeding out, fingerless girl.
"that's unhealthy." he points at me as I suck the flesh off of the bone, tossing the bone to the side "you not only drink blood but you eat the flesh." he shales his head disappointed.
"I would have eaten yours too if your stupid siblings didn't pity me the moment you dropped dead." I mumble "what are you here for Baby Mikaelson." my voice echoed through the room "here" i mumble biting my wrist, shoving it in front of the girls mouth so she didn't die.
"turn it on." he says standing in front of me "turn what on? my light, i like it dark in here Kol." hissing at him, my humanity already starting to seep through the cracks of this tough guy persona, not a persona it's just me but more tough... I guess.
"your humanity." he stared at me intensely "no." dusting my hands off waiting for the girl to heal before compelling her to stand still and quiet, "this blood isn't sufficient, but I refuse to kill her just like I refuse to turn it back on." I mumble and he chuckles.
"Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n" he says placing a hand on my cheek "you've been dead for months, why would i believe your actually here." a tear falls down my cheek, stopping at his hand as he wipes it away.
"i'm a mikaelson, I always come back love." he smiles kissing me and I instantly kiss him back, the switch automatically flips once more "No, no, no what am I doing back here." I huff pulling away from him, shocked that I still had a half tidy apartment.
"you can't be alive." I say hitting his chest "i'm not alive per say." he chuckles and I rub my dome "I can't they'll come for me and I can't do it when I'm all loved up to you, I need to be ready. On Guard." I say slapping myself trying to flip the switch back, obviously failing.
"y/n, you're ok." Kol grabs me "no Kol you don't understand I've hurt people, people who know how to hurt you." panicking, pacing around the room trying to find any excuses to flip that switch one more time for a few more months or so. Kol stops me, grabbing me again "i'll help you." he whispers rubbing the sides of my arm.
Reassuring me with every chance he can, handing me an asthma inhaler as I continue to freak out "I cannot be here." repeating, Kol shakes his head "always and forever, I'll help you my love." he smiles.
"you were bound to come back from the moment I walked through that door, besides i think we make each other stronger." he winks as my breathing calms down.
"i can't be he-" "of course you can, theres a reason you're here right now and you know, the other half of you isnt" he says continuing to rub my arm.
He shrugs with a gentle smile "besides, if you weren't suppose to be here why did you come back out of your little chair to come say hi." he winks making me giggle a little bit.

I'm indescribably happy to meet so many people who love Kol Mikaelson as much as I do, don't get me wrong. But are there people who love Kol so hard but at the same time don't like Kolvina at all? Can I meet these people too please?

do you think kennett should have been canon instead of kolvina/bonenzo?
You people want me in trouble Bad.
Okay, short answer?
No. I don't necessarily think they should have been canon.
Long answer:
I don't particularly care about kolvina, kennett or bonenzo in any special capacity. Kolvina is there, but not especially preferred. Kennett was never my preferred Bonnie/Mikaelson ship (Klonnie was my poison of choice). I barely liked Kol in TVD to the extent a lot of people did. And I think bonenzo kind of came up out of nowhere.
Do I think it would have made narrative sense if Kol and Bonnie had some kind of thing going on? Absolutely. Do I think it would've lasted? Not in particular. Especially if the expression and Silas thing still came up.
Do I think putting Kolvina and Bonenzo together was kind of a fuck you after the comments JPlec made about Kennett? Yeah. Without a doubt.
My feelings on Kennett go as far as I'll read something if it's well written, but since they usually feature as a background ship to a certain ship I can't stand, I don't indulge in content that often. Usually Kol is reduced to Bonnie's lapdog while Bonnie is reduced to a certain blonde's lapdog in most fics, and therefore I can confidently say I don't read it that often.
The arguments about "Kol hurt Bonnie! Kol's a psychopath! Kol wouldn't treat her right!" kind of fall on deaf ears because I literally cannot think of a single significant man in TVD who did not hurt Bonnie at some point on purpose or use her for their own gain or as a magical weapon, so if you go that route, you don't ship Bonnie with anyone. Pick your battles.
(And, don't get me wrong. Certain people use this to actually not ship Bonnie with anyone and make sure she's single and reduced to the undesirable best friend of Elena and Caroline, but that's another battle I'm not picking right now).
They decided to give Kol more character than being a psychopath on The Originals when he was no longer a vampire, which is decidedly a choice, but not one I inherently disagree with. He was never a main character on TVD and I wouldn't expect them to give him screentime fleshing him out, because I think they decided they were going to use him as a prop and make his death more important (barely) than his limited screen time early on.
Also, frankly. I'm not convinced it wouldn't be used as more torture porn for Bonnie at some point.
So, uh. If you've got this far? Let's recap. No, I don't think it should have been explicitly canon. Yes, I think there was potential. No, I don't especially prefer it over kolvina or bonenzo in particular. Yes, I think both those ships were a smack in the face in light of comments made by Julie about kennett.

Legacies might be over but I would just like to explain how I would fix the show:
1. Alaric has a ✨tragic✨ heart attack and unalives.
2. Jeremy Gilbert/Davina comes to run the school.
3. After talking about being closer to Hope, her family comes to help teach the kids. Freya and Davina as magic teachers, Kol helps the vamp. Freyas wife comes to help the wolves.
4. Stephanie Salvatore comes to the school. Idk why but make it happen.
5. The plot line would be Always and Forever against the Gods and like they might not make it but at least the Mikaelsons stop being the monsters everyone else is afraid of.
6. Hope and Josie talk about ✨feelings✨ but understand that it might not be a good thing cause you know. Hope killed Lizzie and almost killed Alaric.
Anyways, that’s just me.

The Hybrid & The Harvest Witch {Klaroline}: Chapter 0 - Intro
Intro
*****
Disclaimer - (Cause fanfiction is tricky ground and I hope not to offend the creator of the original story and get sued)
I do not own "The Vampire Diaries", it belongs to its original creator Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, and L. J. Smith. Nor do I own "Originals", which belongs to its rightful creator Julie Plec, Michael Narducci, Leslie Morgenstein, Gina Girolamo. This is only a fanfiction, it is a piece of nonprofit work - that I was inspired to write by the original work. Please support the official release of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Originals". Most of the media - such as the art and illustrations, gifs, video's, etc. used in this fanfiction - are from the web. Thus, most of them aren't mine (because I really, really can't draw) unless mentioned. To fit the story, images are also edited by various apps and websites. So they aren't mine, just edited.
Also if you own a picture or Video that I found online, and you either want your name added, or me to take it down. Please contact me and we can talk it out. P.s. I also ask that you do not copy my work and publish it onto any other website. A lot of the lines/text/scenes come from the original work.
Warnings:
*****
Tumblr media
What if instead of four girls sacrificed every 300 years, it was five? Marcel may have not made it in time to save three of them, but he did arrive in time to save two; Davina Claire and her cousin, Caroline Forbes.
Or
Where Kol isn't the only Mikaelson to fall in love with a Harvest Witch.
Pairings: Klaroline, Kalijah, Kol/Bonnie/Davina (Poly), Rebekah/Marcel
*****
Tumblr media
So What? When you're Nik, I'm supposed to kiss you. And when you're Klaus, I'm supposed to run for my life.
*****
"So, all of this has been, what, a lie? A power move to take one of Marcel's weapons out from under him?" Caroline cried.
"No... I never saw you as a weapon Caroline-"
"LIAR!" The girl screamed, shaking the building.
"I never lied to you!" Klaus repeated.
*****
That was before I knew she was one of the Harvest girls. That option no longer exists.
Tumblr media
*****
So for the sake of the plot and events, Hayley will be pregnant with Klaus' kid. But fear not, just like the rest of my stories - there will be Hayley bashing; and I will also find a way to bring Katherine into the plot.
I also decided to finally give Rebekah/Marcel a try.
Anyways,
KLAROLINE FOR LIFE BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP!

hey, if you watched comic relief, did you think david looked unbearably tired? he sounded near tears at times and idt it was just bcs of the charity videos
Hi there! I'm not in the UK, so I wasn't able to see Comic Relief while it aired, or any clips until now.
I didn't notice the tiredness at first, but it definitely seemed to become more visible later in the show, as did the sounding near tears. This moment (which I got from a fan on Twitter who compiled all of David's bits) in particular really got me, as it's so apparent here...
As to what could've been causing this, I think there are several things that could have been happening, possibly even all at once. Up until I got into Good Omens/David/Michael, I wasn't at all familiar with Comic Relief, but having watched the show for a few years now, there are some really striking things I've noticed about how it's structured and what it involves.
On the one hand, you have lots of famous actors and comedians and musicians putting on a show and telling jokes...and then on the other, you have emotional videos of people in dire situations, both in the UK and abroad. And because Comic Relief is live, it's much harder to build in transitions between these two things, so you end up dramatically shifting from lighthearted to serious and back, and it leaves you with a bit of whiplash as a result.
So if those abrupt tonal shifts are difficult for us an audience, they must be even more challenging for the host(s), including David. I think the live aspect of the show makes it very similar to theater and how David might have reacted in differing moments during Macbeth, because we're seeing emotional reactions in real time, without the benefit of editing. Tonight was also the last occasion of Comic Relief that Lenny Henry was hosting after nearly 40 years at the helm, so I feel like that probably made David emotional as well, given how much he has worked with and admires him.
As for the tiredness, it seems there were at least a few interviews that David did prior to the broadcast, so he was probably running around all day trying to get everything done. Then you add to that the chaos of multiple hosts on stage and everyone trying to find their marks (which seems to have been something David was stressing out about a bit in one of the interviews today), plus the charity videos, and it's no wonder that he looked so drained.
(Another thing I also wonder is if David's demeanor had anything to do with sharing the stage with Davina McCall, who was allegedly outed as a TERF last year. Given the attacks from the anti-trans loons that David and Georgia have endured over the last several months, I can imagine that he might not be comfortable co-hosting with someone who espouses such views. And for the record, there was something about Davina that inexplicably annoyed/seemed off to me long before any of the TERF stuff came to light. It seems like my instincts have been confirmed in that regard...)
So yes, those are pretty much all of the things that came to mind regarding David's demeanor at Comic Relief. He's probably been running himself ragged lately with new projects since Macbeth ended (the Genius Game hosting gig, for one, and an appearance on the SmartTV game show, plus multiple upcoming Comic Con appearances), so hopefully he can find some time to relax and breathe in between all of this, because he more than deserves a break.
I hope this helps to answer your question. Thanks for writing in! x

Another crazy thing is Julie Plec saying Bonnie is too good for Kol and that he's too evil for her, then pairing him with a white witch.... (no hate to Davina, but if he's irredeemable for Bonnie, then he’d irredeemable for Davina, too)
It's crazy because she also paired Bonnie with Enzo, a vampire who if I'm not wrong did abuse/kinda terrorize her friends, maybe not to the extent Klaus or Damon did but regardless (only if my memory serves me right; I don't remember much from Enzo, hence why I'm currently rewatching season five.)
Kol literally killed Davina and we're supposed to buy he's the better choice for her? Whether you're mind controlled or not, having your blood sucked out of your body by your boyfriend would leave a scarr for sure and the fact that Davina never got any trauma from it is insane. Bonnie went through worse stuff every season, of course, but she was never allowed to show any emotion onscreen, especially if it was against her white friends.
Saying Bonnie is "too pure" or has "too strong morals" to be with any Mikaelson or Salvatore is just stupid and clearly wrong. Elena and Caroline hated Damon and Klaus, until they didn't, it's easy to see women are being constantly retconned to fit into this shows storylines yet no one ever bats an eye until it comes to the main black woman from The Vampire Diaries.
And this isn't just with romances either. Fans believe Bonnie would hate Rebekah, when there isn't literally any proof to corroborate this and they haven't even interacted, they think she would hate Hope for being a Mikaelson when Bonnie has never been that kind of person. They're desperate to prove she's an anti vampires or generally a prude simply because she's traumatized and rightfully so. She decides to not be nice to the Salvatore brothers in season one after they got her grandmother killed and she's turned into some sort of supervillain because of it.
If Bonnie's actress had been white, I'm pretty sure her character and bloodline would have been in Mikaelson level by the show and fandom.

Don’t you think Bonnie and Marcel would be a badass duo? Like when she’s with Klaus. She’d have to beat his ass for what he did to the witches though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, I have to agree with this Boncel would be a fun duo. I could see them calling each other out on their own hypocrisies. Admiring each other for how loyal they are to other people. Bonnie would snap on him for deeming other witches to servitude. Bonnie LOVED meeting other witches (Lucy, Liv and Nora) she’d be elated to finally be able to connect with other women or men that are like her. Or meet other vampires that aren’t so Salvatore-type. Bonnie was friends with several vampires don’t see why she wouldn’t take a liking to Marcel after she got to know him. In a Klonnie sense of things Marcel would find it ironic was almost killed and then saved by a self-taught Bennett witch. I believe Bonnie would’ve sided with Klaus on his thoughts of Marcel and Rebekah’s relationship.
Kat was open to appearing on The Originals in the past but changed her mind after TVD ended. We all know why.
You didn’t ask this part but I do want to say I do find it strange some people think Bonnie going to NOLA is a good idea only if she remains in the “Anti-Mikaelson bubble” (Davina, Vincent, Marcel etc) circle not interacting with anyone else. It’s okay if Bonnie shows up to play the savior but not okay if she hypothetically decided to talk to the Mikaelson’s for whatever reason. Bonnie does canonically know the Mikaelson’s and her bloodline through Ayana did have a past with them. It’s always “I love Bonnie,” until it’s time to think out the box for Bonnie. Everyone in the anti-Mikaelson group ends up tied to a Mikaelson permanently anyways. So I don’t get what’s the excuse for why Bonnie couldn’t make connections. Vincent has a child with Freelin, Marcel does end up with Rebekah and same for Kol and Davina.
That’s all I’m going to say there.

If I’m not mistaken, you’ve argued that Elijah gets very out of character during season 3 and season 4. Could you elaborate on why?
I’ve always seen Elijah as more of an anti-hero than anything else. Throughout the series, we see him kill people without a second thought to protect the people he loves. Elijah’s entire goal was to reunite/redeem his family and keep them safe, so to me, sacrificing Davina and killing Marcel was completely in character to me. He did what he thought he had to do to save the people he loved. The same goes for season 4. Forcing Vincent to do the harvest was not morally right, but the hollow was more dangerous than anything they had ever countered before. So, he was did what he thought had to be done in order to save his family. The only thing that seemed out of character to me was erasing his memories, because I don’t think he’d leave his family behind especially in the 21st century where there is so many ways to communicate outside of face to face. (And honestly I think that was more of a writers error than anything else because the point of him erasing his memories was to not run back to his family the second something went wrong, but they had his family try to convince him to go back without his memories anyway so what was the point?)
The only people I think were truly ever safe from him outside of blood relations were Hayley and (maybe) Cami, and that’s because he already considered them a part of his family.
Apologies if I get anything wrong and sorry for the long question.
You definitely don't need to apologize for anything! But it will be a long response.
So yes, I do think Elijah in the later seasons gets out of character. But it's not that I don't think he wouldn't necessarily do everything he ends up doing. It's more that I don't think he would do it how it happens in the show.
To me, Elijah was the pragmatic brother. As Klaus says, Elijah is the one you meet with when discussions are open and Klaus is the one you meet with after they've closed. Elijah always had a game plan and was supposed to be the more practical brother while Kol and Klaus would often rely on emotions and fly off the rails. Sure Klaus was known as being a strategist, but honestly he was mostly operating on vibes.
I agree, Elijah is definitely an anti-hero. He has a moral compass but isn't afraid to throw it out the window for his family. Killing people doesn't bother him if it fits in his self-regulated code or if it is to protect his family.
So while I don't like that Davina was sacrificed, I do understand it. But I do want to back up and say what I think is out of character of Elijah is that he lets Klaus go off with Hayley as backup to retrieve Rebekah while Lucien is on the loose. I love Hayley, but she was not the backup Klaus needed. And sure Elijah respects people's decisions, but Elijah was not about to let the three most important people to him (excluding Hope) be in danger when he couldn't do anything to help Davina anyway, he's not a witch. He stayed behind for no reason. I know Freya channels him, but Kol was there. He was weakened sure, but give him blood. He'll be fine.
Moving on, Freya and Elijah state there is no other way and Elijah is calling Klaus and not able to get through to him or Hayley. I don't think this act is out of character, although I do love when the show just conveniently says there is no other way when there had always been another way. Elijah and Kol's relationship is hardly ever discussed, but if he views Cami as family because of Klaus' feelings, he should view Davian the same. I also wish they would have allowed his relationship with Davina or Marcel to develop more so maybe he would hesitate. Elijah hesitated to sacrifice Davina in season 1 when Klaus and the witches were ready to do it, but at the end of the day, everyone agreed because it was Davina or New Orleans. This was the same logic he used in season 3. This tracks with his logical way of thinking.
However, when it comes to Marcel, it is not logical. Yes, he's seen the prophecy and he sees it unfolding. But Elijah acted irrationally and harmed his family. People can have different opinions, but Elijah viewed Marcel as family, especially after season 3. Elijah helped Marcel gain the power of the Strix so their family would have power. He trained with Marcel for most of season 3 and helped him create the vampire community. He was there while Klaus "raised" Marcel. I don't see him discarding Marcel's life so easily. Plus, he acted based on pure emotion which is out of character for Elijah. He didn't think about the long-term impacts. He didn't think about how it would impact Klaus, which is out of character. He acted against Marcel quicker than he acted against any of their enemies, not even trying to reason with him or let Klaus talk him down. Marcel was practically calming down when Elijah acted. Marcel was only a danger if he had the serum. If he had taken it, killing him was dumb. And if he didn't, he wasn't a threat. Elijah found out about the serum from Freya, why wouldn't he have brought a witch as backup to take him down and take the serum?
It's the same thing with the Harvest in season 4. It's so rushed and he doesn't even have the correct information. He has access to a powerful witch but doesn't even consult with Freya before killing four teenagers. Elijah has historically been more hesitant to kill young people. He views it differently. Sure he would eventually kill them if it was necessary, but again, the way he did it was so messy and unorganized.
In TVD and Season 1 and 2, Elijah understood the importance of allies and community. Yes, it was family above all, but he constantly counseled his family to be practical. Elijah was always trying to build bridges with the factions because he understood the importance, but in the later seasons, he is constantly destroying them. Even in the beginning of Season 4, he seeks to make Vincent an ally but then does everything to make an enemy out of him.
Even when the Hollow is channeling the children and Elijah acts like he is going to kill them to break it, he doesn't think it through. He doesn't consider any other option but murder first and deal with the consequences later.
I can justify a lot of this by saying after the red door Elijah was essentially experiencing a mental breakdown where he kept slipping further in further into paranoia. But again, this was always Klaus' specialty.
So when I say Elijah was out of character in the last couple of seasons, I mainly mean, the writers traded out Klaus' worst traits for Elijah's best and vice versa. Klaus all of a sudden becomes the practical one and is counseling people to show restraint and Elijah is throwing their enemy's corpses off of the balcony at a party. Elijah was creating problems for his family rather than fixing them.
I definitely agree about erasing the memories. It was completely out of character. The show made it as if he didn't trust himself to stay away. But if it would put his family in danger he would. He did in the 1900s. Again, he is also logical to understand that erasing his memories could put himself and his family in jeopardy. Also, Marcel and Vincent not thinking it through that erasing an Original vampire's memory completely would be a bad idea?
In Season 5, when Elijah gets his memories back he is ready to skip town again because of guilt. I love Hayley and Elijah, but Elijah's main state of being is guilt and it had never made him abandon his family before. The Hollow was still in Hope and he wasn't even thinking about her. If anything, his guilt should make him focus on Hope. But I do think the episode with Hope and Elijah was very in character.
And in no way is Elijah giving up Klaus' life that easily. It's hardly a week and he's ready to plunge a stake into Klaus' heart and leave Hope an orphan. Elijah may have been suicidal, but he always fought for Klaus. He would have either taken the Hollow himself and died by himself or found another way.
Finally, the thing that I think is most missing in Elijah's character in the last half of season 3 to 5 is Elijah's connection to his family. Sure, he isn't the best brother in the world, but we see he cares deeply for them, especially Klaus and Rebekah. The show nearly sets this aside completely. We have brief moments of connection but overall Elijah is just not there for anyone like he was before. Klaus is struggling after being tortured and Rebekah is struggling with her pain over Marcel, and Elijah hardly interacts with any of them. It even lacks moments with Hayley after she is almost killed or when she finds out about her family and instead the show focuses on Hayley's bond with the other Mikaelsons. We get some cute scenes early on, but for the most part, the only time he interacts with anyone is to cause problems or be reprimanded.
In Season 4 and 5, Elijah is given the role as the villain and stripped of nearly all of his positive attributes that made the terrible things he did tolerable. A lot of this can be attributed to the writers rushing and wanting shock value. He is put into these positions and then makes the worst possible decision over and over again.
Who knows, maybe I just have rose-colored glasses on with Elijah, but to me, he was a lot better at playing the long game and worrying about consequences in the earlier seasons. He was also a lot better at weighing his options before acting. A lot of his later-season behavior reminds me more of Klaus than Elijah, which bugs me. Elijah was always my favorite because of his twisted code of honor and his compassion. Klaus wasn't because he had no honor and lacked basic empathy. So switching these roles was a terrible decision to me. The show writers forget that you can grow one character without destroying another.
I hope this made sense and wasn't just an incoherent mess of my ramblings!
