hello securitywaiter nation have you thought about ness being abby’s teacher bc I HAVE

-abby does well enough in school academically but is still needs some work in the socioemotional dept

-when she starts a new school year mike is a bit worried but then she comes back home absolutely ecstatic and mike is like “okay this is good”

-she talks all about how mr. ness lets her color while he teaches and how mr. ness gave them all name tags w silly drawings (hers is a bear) etc etc

-mike is actually really happy bc most teachers have a hard time understanding abby (heck, he has a hard time understanding her) so he’s looking forward to meeting this mr. ness during back to school night

-it goes on like this for awhile, with abby raving about mr. ness and mike is just happy that his little sister seems to be doing better in school. the first time she comes home talking about these kids she hung out with at recess he practically cries

-back to school night is here and the first time mike sees this mr. ness he’s like abby u traitor you didnt tell me this man was exactly my type (he doesn’t actually tell her bc he never brings up his lovelife around her - not that he’s had much of one - but still isn’t this the type of things siblings know intrinsically)

-anyways they’re having the kids show their guardians around the classroom and their seats and everything and then mr. ness is explaining the way his class works and mike is totally paying attention. yup. he’s not distracted by those chocolate brown eyes at ALL

-so they’re waiting to do the one-on-ones with the teacher and mike crouches down next to abby and tries to be all chill “hey, abs. has mr. ness ever mentioned a partner or anything?” acting all nonchalant

-but abby sees right through him and is immediately like “he’s single! do u want me to put in good word for you?” and mikes like “NO i have no idea what ur talking about haha i just wanted to know bc it’s important to know that about ur teachers okay wait why are you smiling like that”

-(abby’s a little menace and already ships it)

-when it’s finally their turn mike is just chanting to himself “be normal. be normal. be normal” lmao

-but now that he’s sitting face to face with the teacher he notices that he has freckles and every chance he had at playing it cool goes out the window

-ness is telling him all about how well abby is doing in class and if there was anything he could do to make it easier for her in the classroom and abby’s just sitting there looking at mike internally screaming with a smile

-so she turns to her teacher and is like “you should get mike’s number just in case something comes up. he’ll probably think of some things later since he’s been taking care of me alone for awhile” (bc u know when kids do that things where they kinda trauma dump at the most random moments lmao)

-and ness at first refuses and is like “im sure email works just fine!” and abby’s like WHYY is he not just taking the bait and then she has like a lightbulb moment

-bc ness probably assumes like everyone else that mike is a single father and abby’s his daughter and abby’s like oh no how do i make this work

-so she goes full anya mode (for my spy x family watchers) and is like “im sure mike would appreciate having your number on hand! he’s a very protective older brother you see. taking care of his little sister must be hard. i’m sure being a big brother like him is hard so it’d be for his peace of mind. did i mention he’s my older brother”

-and ness also has a little bit of a crush already forming so he doesn’t catch the obvious set up and is instead distracted by the fact that the handsome guy in front of him is in fact NOT a single father so maybe he does have a chance wowow

-yup so they exchange numbers andddddd ill come back to this later i really need coffee

Tell me about the worst birthday Belle ever had! :( But also... Tell me about the best birthday she ever had post-canon~

AGH!!!! i had so much fun answering this 🤧

okay, i think in GENERAL, belle has had pretty wonderful birthdays. pre-canon it’s just always been so sweet and lovely, spending time with her beloved papa. she’s always been rather content in this regard. and post-canon, GOSH, one of adam’s biggest love languages is gift giving, so you Know he just goes crazy every year. not to mention the balls and the trips they always have !! belle really has had some incredible birthdays.

BUT OKAY. TWIST MY ARM ! truthfully the only “bad” birthday she had, pre-canon, was this one time that it RAINED. on her BIRTHDAY. and it was so unprecedented and she was Devastated. i think this was maybe like her fourteenth birthday? and it just BUMMED HER OUT. because it’s Always so nice on her birthday!!! what the heck!!! but it was just a wild flash of rain that literally only lasted a day. and i think belle is Very affected by the weather; Really loves the sun and Really gets sad when it rains, so the fact that it was on her birthday just sucked😭 maurice still did everything he could to make it count. he made her favorite meals and they read her favorite stories. (AND HAD APPLE PIE !!! their birthday tradition!!) père robert even surprised belle and braved the rain to run across town and join them for dinner 🥰 which was lovely. so it turned out alright but i think she was Sad about it for a good chunk of the day :(

post-canon, like i said, she’s really had some incredible birthdays. adam really wins in this department. honestly, not to be too morbid, but i think her worst birthday post-canon would just be her first birthday after her father passed away ☹️☹️ i don’t wanna think about it!!!! but yeah. i don’t know how many months it is between his death and her next birthday, but regardless, i think it would just be very very very hard!! :((

BUT ANYWAY HEYYYY BEST BIRTHDAY POST-CANON?!? i keep saying it but that’s SO HARD!!!!!! i think her 21st birthday (first birthday with adam) would be AMAZING because WOWOW !!! BIRTHDAY WITH HUSBAND WHO LOVES ME SO MUCH !!! BIRTHDAY TRAVELING SOMEWHERE BEAUTIFUL !!! AAAHH !!! yeah that’s certainly an unforgettable birthday. and the NEXT birthday, omg ! it’s her first birthday as a mama!!! renée was born in april and so her baby girl is like a month old 😭 that was one birthday where she probably didn’t do too much, haha. probably just lots of soft kisses and snuggles in bed, THE THREE OF THEM 🥹🥹🥹

she definitely loves having birthdays as a mama, because her kiddos always love celebrating her 😭😭 SOMEONE GET HER AN 18TH CENTURY “WORLD’S BEST MOM” MUG RIGHT NOW !!! but anyway yeah she loves getting all their little craft gifts!! they’re so creative and cute!!!!!! they often put on shows for her, like writing silly scripts and acting them out with fun costumes, performing with their friends. VERY CUUUUTE.

she mostly loves when adam takes her to surprise places. in general they plan where they’re going together, but i think for her birthday some years, if belle can’t decide where she wants to go, (which happens frequently, she always wants to go everywhere), adam will pick a place that’s either new to them (or at least new to her) or a place he knows she loved but they haven’t been there in a while. and he’ll do the WORKS. making sure she doesn’t see any sign of where they’re going, covering up any indications, and blindfolding her when the ship (or carriage) is approaching the destination. and she’s always SO EXCITED SHE CANT STOP WIGGLING AND ASKING ADAM FOR CLUES!!! and he does give Some vague hints but he cuts her off eventually because girl you’re gonna spoil it!!! just wait!!!!! lmao. anyway she’s always SOOOO happy of course. i think one of her FAVORITE places to go is the scottish highlands, SPECIFICALLY to see those adorable ass cows. definitely one of her all time favorite animals.

the first time they went here was probably pretty early in their marriage. and life is busy and there’s so much to explore so they probably don’t go back for a handful of years. so when they DO go back and it’s a SURPRISE !!!! she just explodes. definitely up there for one of her favorite birthdays ever.

she sees the baby highland cows and she asks adam every time if they can take one home. and he has to be like no, darling, they thrive best here. and we have cows at home. (THE COWS AT HOME ARE NOT AS CUTE AS THESE ONES!!! ADAM!!!!!!!!)

 Apart from what's going on currently, how have you been spending your time since New Year's?

Since New Year's it's been nothing but meetings. And as you know just recently I was a judge for "TAGO STUDIO TAKASAKI MUSIC FESTIVAL 2022." Was my third time judging. I got to meet with Hotei Tomoyasu-san for the first time in about six years since he was a guest.

How did judging the auditions go?

I didn't get to see the preliminary rounds, only the final one but there were several categories like karaoke, singer/songwriter, and band, and for the karaoke part, there was a woman who sang MISIA's "Everything." It was incredible. Ultimately though it was a band group that took the top prize. They were a band of senior high school students, around like 17 or 18 years old I think, called "Maguro Nikan." They were pretty good. The drummer and the vocalist were women, and the young drummer was so good, it surprised me. From what I heard they'd only been drumming for like three or five years or something. That's some gifted learning. And when they were asked, "But can you sustain this level of drumming for twenty songs?", she answered, "I've done it. Also, not to be rude but I've even done one man shows." *laughs*

I look forward to seeing more about them in the future. Didn't you also take some leisurely time in your home town?

During that period, I did return to Gunma. It had been a long time. I hadn't been back since the start of corona. So it'd been like two years. I caught up with old friends, local live house people, and we all drank and rekindled our friendship.

Now let's look back to last year's Budoukan performance, while it was once again broadcast as two parts, it was a new version of the "Misemono~" show wasn't it?

I pretty much left the song choice and structure of the show up to the others. But I think the idea of it being in two parts, was also to try to give some consideration to Imai, and let him have a bit of a break. Meanwhile he was out there walking around anyway *laughs*. Because we were told his recovery would take a full year, but by the point of that show it would have only been like seven months right?

I'm glad it ended without incident. Was there anything in particular that left an impression on you?

At the end of "DIABOLO", Imai was on lying on his back on the sofa with his legs going in the air *laughs*. On the whole, I was really happy with how things went from the beginning of "DIABOLO" to the end of "Alice in Wonder Underground." It had the right feeling for the "Misemono~."

It did. Also it was your first time performing "Koi" and "Go-Go B-T TRAIN" so how did that go?

We didn't change it from when we recorded them so I was able to play them as usual I guess.

I also noticed at a later streaming of the show on WOWOW that during "Maimu maimu" you had a tiny cymbal above the snare.

I had that there to have the same kind of jingle as like a tambourine when I hit it. That way it makes the right sound.

And you've been doing that since recording?

Yeah. I did have it during the recording too, and I've had it there for every performance of "Maimu maimu."

Really? Do you use it for other songs too?

Nah, it's purely a "Maimu maimu" thing.

As for costumes, you had two different colors, a green one, and a pink one.  The shade of green of the jacket is really pretty you know.

Well actually I had requested it to be Tiffany Blue *laughs*. But I've always loved green so I'm quite happy with the color.

You also have quite a lot of events coming up don't you Yagami-san?

I do, yes. I've got KEITH-san's 70th birthday event, Kagawa(Macoto)-kun's event in Gunma, and then there's SHIME-san's charity live. I'll be appearing with Blue Sky for the charity live.

Really? What songs were you planning on performing for KEITH-san's event?

For KEITH-san's, I was hoping to try some twin drumming action and play some ARB.

Twin drumming? Have you ever even shared a stage with KEITH-san  before?

This will be the first. We've drunk together and stuff but this will be the first time sharing a stage. See, my sneaky strategy is to have him next to me so I can watch him and take a page from his style book *laughs*.

*smiles* As for Kagawa-san's event "Macoto Kagawa Presents 'A thousand and one nights of Rock & Roll'", it is being hosted by Takasaki Club JAMMERS on (Saturday) June 18th.

I mean until now I've done "GBGB" events in Gunma but this year because many venues were being used as vaccination centers, they couldn't host shows. So I feel like this is making up for that a bit you know.

Perhaps it is? As far as the lineup goes, it's looking to be a gathering of distinguished people.

Yet I haven't had a word about what I'm supposed to be doing *laughs*. Like am I going to be doing covers of European music? What? I haven't even heard what kind of menu it's going to be, so I'm not really sure what to do *laughs*.

How long have you known Hiroishi Takehiko-san for?

Some twenty years. I guess since our Victor days?  But we haven't been with Victor in like twenty-six years right? So since about that long I guess. There's Ikehata Junji-san too from The Roosters. I haven't seen him in a long while either so I'm looking forward to being able to do that too.

It's hard though isn't it, since you'll have to be practicing so many different songs.

Well you know I don't really feel like practicing though *smiles*. I've already got the start of BUCK-TICK stuff while that's going on. So I don't know. Maybe if I practiced every day I'd be able to come off looking like a pro *laughs*.

You've been a pro for 35 years! *laughs* Still, despite not knowing what songs you'll be doing for some of these things, I imagine you're looking forward to the performances, and meeting up with everyone.

Yeah, I mean that's what interested me about it.

Starting in July, you have the start of the fan club and mobile members only lives. It's been a long time since you've toured in live houses right?

That's why I'm going to be so busy. I've been wondering if I'll be able to manage given that ( my body) has grown soft.

I think you can manage to squeeze in some ten minute warm ups before all the business sets in. I've also heard that there's been some song creation since the new year?

You're asking about recording? I just heard the demo tape myself.

I thought you'd already begun working on the songs.

Yes. But the recording itself hasn't begun yet, though it is progressing bit by bit.

What kind of feeling did the songs on the demo tape have for you?

At this point there's been about five I think. I'd say they have a completely different feeling than anything we've done till now, and from what I've heard there's a lot of potential there. Imai's been working, and it's like revving the engine to get things going but the final thing is writing a song that can be used as a single. Because as of now none of the songs really fit for a single. They feel more like a lead in.

I thought you had some songs from Hoshino-san as well?

Yeah. Hide's stuff is always good. As for Imai, nothing of his is really single worthy yet but then again when Acchan sings, that does make it different too right. Like when Acchan sings, it completely changes the songs that they made. So as of right now, nobody can really tell where things are going.

But it seems you've got the foundations of an album. That's exciting. As for the contents of the fan club and mobile members only lives, what kind of tour would you like it to be?

Right now what I'm wishing for is for people not to have to wear masks you know? Because of course I'd like to see people's reactions right. I wonder if that will be possible by the time we have the lives, and I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy themselves. But I have no idea what the situation will be like by then so I just hope we can get people into it.

With the start of the tour is the beginning of your 35th anniversary year.

We started when I was twenty-five, and this year I'm turning sixty, so that's how I know it's 35 years *smiles*. Makes it easy for me to remember.

We already announced our plans for our 35th anniversary at the end of the year in Budoukan so I'm hoping  we get to do all the things we had planned for it. As the time draws nearer, I absolutely hope you will all come to see us live.

this is going to be my last public post to tumblr of the year. too tired to rush cross referencing and checking the last 10 lines from the 2013 hakuoki otopa drama, but a link for that will probably be posted onto my other blog before the new year, and there are a few other things i want to subtitle from yuugiroku 2 but won’t get to until later. 

i might be back posting on january 7 (will depend on if i find the first episode of the wowow hakuoki drama, and only if no one else does since i rarely watch live action dramas [or any tv for that matter unless its for something im obsessing over] so my interest in obtaining the episode is really only so other people can watch it), otherwise, i’ll be back with my translations on the 13th... im hoping to translate that second stupid kyoka roku story i keep putting off for january. 

anyway, merry christmas and happy holidays everyone! :D please stay safe!

Chapter 1 — Of Balconies and… surprises

"Let's see who's the first to the Iron Lady!" Chat Noir started racing around the City with his baton and gave Ladybug a massive smirk.

"You're on!" said Ladybug. The yoyo zipping around and of the baton crashing against the ground regularly were the only sounds echoing in the sleepiness of the city in the first hours of the morning. Although it was mid August, the air was still fresh because the rays of the rising sun hadn't yet managed to warm the dusky atmosphere. A horse from the cart of a junk dealer raised its head as the crystalline laughter of the girl in red polka-dotted costume resounded in the silence when she landed first on the metal structure. "Told you, you haven't got a chance, Chaton!"

"Would never dream to take the victory from a Lady!" Chat Noir landed next to her just seconds later and presented the girl next to him with a yellow rose. "I'm a gentle-cat, after all!"

Ladybug's smirk softened. "So you stopped on the way to pick this up? Oh, Chaton, you're incorrigible. How many times do I need to tell you that I'm in love with someone else?"

"Why, M'lady, this is a yellow rose, not red. It's a symbol of friendship!" He pouted.

She gave him a sly look as she picked the flower from his hand and gave it a good sniff. "Smells lovely, Chat Noir. Thank you." Then she elbowed him in the ribs. "But don't think you can fool me. It's a yellow rose with red tips. It's a symbol of falling in love from friendship." The sheepish glance back she got told the girl that the feline was very well aware of that.

"Uh, well, a young bachelor can hope!"

Ladybug smiled and looked at the view in front of her for a while, but never dropped or gave the boy back his rose. Eventually, she picked up her yoyo, opened the top part up and placed the rose inside.

She observed with vigilant eyes the cart of the junk dealer trotting away from the Champs de Mars just underneath them, and the silhouette of the lamplighter slowly turning off all the lampposts around.

"You know you don't need these tricks, Chat Noir. You're my best friend and I really do love you. Just… not in a romantic way." She patted the metal structure they were sitting on fondly. "I will miss this when it's taken down. When are they starting the works, Chaton?"

He gave her a smile. "You don't know the latest news, Ladybug? They actually decided to keep it."

She turned to him and looked at him with surprise. "You're joking?"

"Nah. They decided to place the radiotelegraph station permanently on the third floor. Not that people stopped complaining." He huffed. "Artists really hate it. Guy de Maupassant will be turning in his grave at the news, God bless his soul. He kept going on and on about how it outshines the classic elegance of the city. Have you heard that he had his meals in the café at the bottom of the tower because it was the only place where he couldn't see it 'ruining his view'?"

"Pffffft, really?" The girl snorted in her laughter. She patted the metal structure fondly. "Well, I like it. Sod the artists!"

The rising sun was tinting the darkness of the sky in shades of indigo and gold as the lights of the lampposts were slowly being switched off everywhere and the sky lit up. Chat Noir sighed, his gaze getting lost in the skyline, the fresh breeze blowing on top of the tower gently messing his hair. "I like it too. And they would also like it if they saw this view. But I'm glad nobody else can see this. It's only for us; and for the birds."

Ladybug turned to look at his partner, his blond mane shining almost like a halo in the backlight. "Yes, our own private view of inspiration."

Chat Noir smirked, invading her personal space to wiggle his eyebrows in her face. "I wonder why M'lady is not reading the newspapers, though…"

She 'hmph'ed. "I'm a busy girl in my civilian life, Chaton. I don't have the time to read silly gossip."

"Especially when people criticise your choice of costume, right?" He poked her and she faked-glared at him.

"That Lila Rossi. Just because she started modeling for the Agreste fashion brand, she thinks she's an expert in fashion now. How dare she insult my outfit? I saved Paris from her akumatised self twice already, and her outfits as an akuma victim were... atrocious!" She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted, her eyebrows furrowing in an irritated frown. "What's wrong with my outfit, anyway? I need to be comfortable when I'm fighting akumas, I can't go around wearing bustiers and wide gowns!"

She looked down at the costume that wrapped around her body. Her top was like a second skin on her bosom starting from her neck, covering her up to her hands, but then flew into a long sleeved flap collar knee-length dress, all red with black polka dots and black accents. She wore a belt at her waist and covered her legs with a pair of red and polka dotted bloomers with black accents and skin-tight boots to cover her calves and feet. It was practical, it was comfortable, and it was decent. That Lila compared it to a bathing suit. How dare she!

Chat Noir sniggered. "Someone doesn't sound very happy about her comments, huh?" He gave her an amused grin when she shot him a second glare. "But you shouldn't be bothered by her opinion, Buginette. You know that, in my eyes, your outfit is the best in the whole world, because you are in it."

She smiled softly at him and rested her head on his shoulder. He gasped, but didn't move. In fact, soon his arm circled her shoulder and moved her a little closer as his cheek rested gingerly on the top of her head. She smelled of baked goods and wildflowers. He breathed in such an intoxicating scent and sighed happily.

It was only after a while that Ladybug shook herself out of her self induced réverie and moved to look at him. "Shall we do a last round of patrol before heading home?"

"You're on!" He smiled and as the girl started zipping her yoyo around, he gladly followed her.

They flew around different streets and neighbourhoods of Paris and everything seemed to be in order. The only excitement they had was helping a ginger cat come down a tree. So they were nearly going to end their round of patrol, when they passed in front of a big villa in the neighbourhood right behind the tower, a little out of the way from the Seine. Chat Noir saw Ladybug look at one of the balconies and freeze on the spot, her body stiffening as she lost control of her yoyo. He gave a push to his baton and dove down, managing to reach her and grab her in his arms before she could hurt herself and landed in an alley nearby.

"Wowow, M'lady, be careful, you nearly slammed your beautiful face against that chimney!" He took a deep breath to calm down and let the adrenaline rush wash off his body. "What did you see, is there an akuma?" He finally let go of her and she used her yoyo to pull herself up to a rooftop. She hid behind a chimney there and beckoned to him to do the same. He did as he was told and peeked curiously to understand what had caused such a reaction on his Lady.

"What am I looking at?" he said scratching his cheek.

Ladybug sighed. "That's the Lavillant villa. Since you said you read the news, you should know that they've been in every newspaper lately."

"Yes, I know," he said thoughtfully. "Because of the engagement. Why are we snooping at their residence?"

"Look!" She pointed at a balcony on the second floor of the mansion. Chat Noir squirmed his eyes to really pay attention to what she was pointing at and when he saw it, he gasped. "There, now you see it!" exclaimed Ladybug.

"Is that Rose Lavillant?" whispered the feline.

Ladybug nodded. "Yep, that's Rose. And the other girl is—"

"Juleka Couffaine!" He paused significantly. "Uh, it doesn't feel normal to see two girls kissing that way, especially when one is engaged," he mused, "and the other one is the sister of her fiancé…"

"I can't believe it. I knew that Rose didn't look happy, but I didn't expect her to… be…"

"In love with her future sister-in-law, you mean?" Chat Noir's voice still sounded stunned.

"Aha." Ladybug sighed and turned around, her cheeks dusting in pink because the two girls were getting more steamy with their kissing, and she was starting to feel bad about snooping. She saw that Chat Noir was STILL looking, so she grabbed him by his belt and moved him out of the view.

"Uh, you're such a killjoy, M'lady…"

She glared at him. "Chaton!"

"Okay, okay, sorry, I shouldn't have kept looking." He put a hand on his nape. "But you must admit that two girls kissing each other are the cat's meow… and they are doing it right in the open and, you know, a gentlecat's dream is—'' He stopped because Ladybug gave him a firm elbow in the ribs.

"A gentleman should be looking away! And may I remind you that it's not even five in the morning? They don't expect to have an audience!"

He sighed. "Okay, okay, I won't keep looking."

"You better!" She slid down and sat on the rooftop, resting her back against the chimney behind her. "So what are we going to do about it? I fear that the whole situation could become a real akuma magnet."

"Yeah… I'm sorry for Luka," mumbled Chat Noir under his breath. "I know he doesn't love her, but still… having competition in your own home isn't fun."

Ladybug looked at him in surprise. "You know Luka Couffaine?"

Worry filled his eyes, but he sighed and slouched his shoulders. "You could say I do, yeah. I don't think it would compromise my identity if I say that I'm in his circle of friends."

"Oh wow." She looked a bit startled. "I must have come across your civilian self sometimes, then, because I'm in Rose's circle of friends."

He looked at her funny. "She only knows and invites to her parties half of Paris… I'm so not surprised that you know her. Between her and Chloé Bourgeois, I think they know the whole city."

She looked down thoughtfully and pulled her legs close to her chest, hugging her knees. "I had noticed lately that her smiles weren't reaching her eyes and that she didn't laugh as genuinely as she always did anymore, but I would never have expected her situation to be so messed up." She sighed. "I'm really sorry for her. It must not be easy to have the one you love in front of your very eyes every day and have to pretend that instead, you love her brother."

Chat Noir's gaze locked into hers as she said that and the sadness and empathy she read in his green cat-like orbs caught her unprepared and made her heart skip a beat. "Yeah, it's terrible." He let out a big sigh. "I mean, not the arranged marriage; that's normal unfortunately." He broke eye contact and mirrored her pose, pulling up his legs and hugging his knees, his gaze getting lost in the endless view of the rooftops of the city of Light. "I did tell you that my father promised me in marriage, didn't I? I don't love her; I love you, M'lady. But I must pretend in public that I do. It's not that hard once you get used to it."

"I'm so sorry, Chat Noir." She put a gloved hand on his shoulder and placed a kiss on the top of his forehead. The intensity in his eyes when their gazes met made her feel weak in her knees.

"Rose is a nice girl, though," he said eventually. "I like her; she always has a kind word for everyone. I am sorry that she's not happy, don't get me wrong."

"Then we need to do something about it." Ladybug's frown was very determined as she slammed one of her fists on the palm of the other hand.

Chat Noir sat legs crossed and looked up at her. "Okay! So… what's your plan?"

"Still not sure, but I'll find a way. You're with me, partner?" She showed him her fist to bump.

His smile brightened. "To the moon and back, as always, M'lady. Operation ‘matchmakers’?" And then he fist bumped with her.

"Good idea! Pound it?" she said, a determined gleam to her eyes as she smirked at him.

"Pound it!" Then he looked at the position of the sun and his smile faded. "Now it's better if I head home, or someone may notice my absence and I could get in trouble. See you next Wednesday, same rooftop?"

"Unless there's an akuma attack!" she retorted.

"Purrfect! See you then, LB!" And that said, he extended his baton and jumped high in the sky with a little pirouette.

Hi everyone!

This, as you may have read in the introduction note, is my effort for the AU April exchange of the Fanworks server. I hope that LadyEnna_50 likes it, because the good stuff is yet to come.

This story took me an awful amount of research to get ready. I actually started writing it last night, but I had the idea for it right after I got my assignment, at the beginning of the month. But I had been asked to put historical references and… well, that needs research. And Moi because it's Moi… LOVES doing research, but is also VERY anal about her research. I think I've become an expert of the first decade of the 20th century by now.

As always, please drop me a line and review. The more reviews I see the more the story goes high on my updating list, because I feel I'd let down more people if I wait. Worry not: I love all my stories so I will update them all eventually. But surely the ones with more reviews take priority for me. So… you know the drill. You review. I update! ^-^

despite how unprofessional this post is, this can kiinda double as a blog anniversary post too... because here's a fun fact! i made this blog around january, yes. i'm not sure when exactly, but i do remember iconning after seeing some fireworks. here's also a confession: that was in the very lovely new year of 2019. yeah. i was too much of a coward to join the rpc for a wholeass year 😳 sgdhhw nah, i had some irl things to work on so that's not main reason, but it is a part of it!

Pokko Life Update: April 27th

WOWOW A lot has changed since my first day playing Animal Crossing. It’s been a while since I’ve updated but I rather make one long post about it rather than many small updates

For starters... Rodney moved the FUCK out and sadly has landed in @cors0la​ town :’) She will never let me live it down. Rodney the Smug hamster has been replaced with Eugene the Smug Koala!  Which I do love LOL especially when he removes his shades.

 But the tables have turned because just how my friend received Rodney, I got her Robin which replaced....Renee. Renee also moved out, she was my beginner villager but sometime you got to know when to let go and give them their desired freedom. Also because I read somewhere that you can upgrade your starter villager’s homes past a certain point. I will miss this Pink Rhino Sister-like villie, but I’m sure I’ll see her again one day! 

MAP/Landscapping!

My small starting area has grown so much! What started from a deserted island has expanded to have more cliffs, moved around appropriate buildings (I’ve at least spent 2 mil on moving building so far...and I no doubt will move more in the future!) But I’m happy to say Pokko now officially has a proper Resident Area and a small resort like area by the side of the sea... Therefore it’s called Sea Side ( A tribute to one of my old New Leaf Towns!)

Above Sea Side is Fisher’s Lake where you can expect all sports/jock enthusiasts to find and reel in the big ones. Fishes from the lake can be caught and eaten by the campsite locals over at the Cypress Grounds (Another tribute to my old New Leaf Game lol) Anyways I have no pics as of yet, but take a look at the right side of my island lol

Friends

I met up with my friends I’ve known for almost ten years now! And even someone new~ They didn’t talk on the app because they were my friend’s friend...but it was nice to meet them! They joined up on my friend’s town which was lovely decorated for Bunny Day ;; and we took so many cute pics. I’ll save the details but here’s one pic as an example

It’s amazing how we all went to the same middle/high school together, but we’re all physically apart now! Animal Crossing gives us a platform to talk and hangout with~ And I couldn’t ask for a better game!

Kalafina 10th Anniversary Film Interviews ~ Highlights/Summary/Translation

Note: These interviews contain quite a lot of interesting info so I thought I’d provide a summary/translation of all the juicy bits (details regarding the movie’s content, some background info on their 10th Anniversary Live, a glimpse at ‘their future’!)

~ Regarding their 10th Anniversary Film ~

The film will have a runtime of 1h 40 minutes

According to Keiko it apparently contains a lot more live footage than anyone expected

Wakana says the film is packed with live performances from their 10th Anniversary Live (which has me quite worried because maybe all these cameras were only there to film footage for the movie after all o.O I definitely didn’t expect them to show THAT much of the live in their documentary. I am assuming this will be similar to their 5th Anniversary WOWOW release which showed a total of 11 songs...)

One of the songs is most likely “sprinter”

This film will include solo interviews. Aside from that there will also be an interview with the director 河東茂 (I have no idea how to read his name, my best guess would be Kato/Kawahigashi Shige.) Seems like the girls have become pretty close to the director, they were a bit intimidated by the prospect of having a director around them all the time but he immediately let them know that formalities were not necessary. They are even on a first name basis! The girls have only good things to say about him, apparently he always made sure they were comfortable.

Big sections of the movie will be dedicated to following each member to important places of their past. Hikaru considers those parts the most interesting aspects of the film. Seems like they learned a lot about each other while watching these solo scenes. This also applies to the footage we get of their solo rehearsal sessions.

On the day of their Fukuoka Acoustic Tour performance they filmed Wakana’s section. Wakana is taking us along to visit Tenjin, a popular downtown area in Fukuoka. Apparently we will get a glimpse at a place where she used to work part-time and a club where she used to perform on a regular basis.

Keiko is taking us along to Shibuya. However, it seems like it wasn’t a particularly nostalgic experience for her. She says everything in Tokyo changes so rapidly, none of the places she used to frequent exist anymore. She actually felt quite lost when she walked around the area. However it did feel nice to walk down the streets where she used to go home from vocal training school back in the day.

Hikaru says that contrary to Tokyo, nothing ever really changes in her hometown in Toyama. She takes us along to a YAMAHA place where she used to take vocal lessons. She says everything still looks the same. Keiko comments that after watching the movie, everyone will want to go there and take lessons. Alas, the music classes are no longer offered but you can still check out the place. As we have already seen in the trailer, Hikaru’s section also includes footage from their acoustic live. It’s very special because we get to see Hikaru cry which is a rare thing to happen. Both Keiko and Wakana think it’s great that this special moment will forever be captured on film. Even staff and band members were surprised to see her cry this much. Hikaru suspects it’s because she was visiting all these nostalgic locations earlier in the day. There’s also mention of a funny moment during one of the MCs when Hikaru was talking. Keiko is seen turning away and seemingly ignoring Hikaru. Keiko was quite shocked to find out that scene had made it into the final cut. She was like, “why are you showing this moment where you can only see my back? Why couldn’t I just stand there and support Hikaru the same way as Wakana? Why was I talking to the freaking wall???” (LOL at Keiko worrying about such things) At the end of the day Keiko is happy though because they managed to include so much lovely footage from Hikaru’s “triumphal return performance”.

Hikaru’s favourite scene in the movie is the opening scene when we get to see them walk up the stairs onto the stage of Budokan. She thinks it’s so perfect because it somehow symbolises the progress they have made. Just looking at the backs of the other two members conveys their will to move forward. She doesn’t even have to see their faces to be motivated, she will pretty much follow them everywhere. It’s so funny because the interviewer gets all cheeky and says, "but it’s not really your backs we are seeing, it’s your legs!” Keiko thinks that’s hilarious and explains that Hikaru is just too innocent to talk about legs so she would rather use the word ‘back’. Anyways, Keiko agrees that it’s very fitting that a movie about all the progress they have made would start with a ‘leg scene’.

Another scene that’s precious to all of them contains footage of one of their Janken sessions for the recording of their regular radio show Kalafina Club. Apparently something super funny happened, something that has NEVER happened before, Everyone should be looking forward to that scene because it's absolutely hilarious. And Keiko wants us all to know that it definitely wasn’t staged or anything. (I wonder which episode it was and if that incident made it into the final cut of the episode. In the trailer when you see them playing Janken, it says it’s the 25th on that ‘face training’ calendar but I am not sure which month.)

Something else to look forward to: A detailed scene of them changing outfits during their 10th Anniversary Live (including all the mistakes that can happen in such situations). Wakana explains that everything always seems so peaceful to the audience while the band is playing but their outfit changes are actually crazy stressful (I guess we already got a glimpse of that during the Best Documentary but this time we’ll get to see even more). Apparently Wakana had quite some trouble with her outfit, first she forgot something (I am assuming it was her big tulle skirt attached to the corsage thingy) and then the zipper wouldn’t work. *poor Wa-chan*

~ Regarding their 10th Anniversary LIVE ~

I am guessing these are things that will be mentioned in the film in some way, shape or form but for all of us who won’t be seeing the movie any time soon, here are some background infos regarding their anniversary concert.

Hikaru was the one who chose the BGM for the intermission. (I wonder if that means that she always gets to pick it)

Wakana says that even though they sang 27 songs (without really getting any proper breaks) she never felt tired or exhausted. Her throat and singing voice may have gotten a little tired throughout the live (she is only human after all) but her body seemed to have endless energy. She says it’s thanks to the past year where they kept creating amazing lives together with their audiences.

The setlist was changed quite extensively shortly before the live. There’s a scene in the movie where they talk about their setlist and apparently that is quite different from what they actually ended up performing (I think that mostly refers to the order of the songs).

Originally they had planned to start their live with “oblivious” but in the end they thought “ring your bell” would be more fitting because it pretty much represents the theme of putting their flag in a new place. The whole “flag” theme first came up when Yuki Kajiura mentioned it a few years ago while they prepared for their first Budokan Live. Yuki Kajiura told them that they should be proud that they finally get to plant their flag in such a special venue. Seems like this talk also inspired the PV for “ring your bell” (and possibly even the lyrics for “Koibito no Mukashigatari no Yuugure no”??). Following their first Budokan Live, the flag theme became a pretty big deal for them. From then onwards the act of putting their flag in new places became a manifestion of their intentions. That’s how they came up for the theme of their “far on the water” tour. So yes, it seemed very appropriate to them to continue with this flag theme for their 10th Anniversary. And that’s the story of how “ring your bell” ended up being the opening song (because it’s their trademark “flag” song :P). [I was right all along about the whole flag theme]. They decided to pick “Mirai” as their second song because they thought it was perfect to go out and greet the audience with smiles on their faces. It was also a nice way to reflect upon their past.

~ Regarding Kalafina’s future ~

There’s one section in the SPICE interview where they talk about their future. In light of recent events there are many ways to interpret this part. I am not sure what to make of it but I thought I’d provide a translation so you can all decide for yourself what their answers could possibly mean. As always, please be aware that my Japanese is not perfect (this was a pretty quick translation and I might go back later to edit it).

―― Now that you have celebrated your 10th Anniversary, how will Kalafina spend the rest of 2018, how would the three of you like to spend 2018?

Wakana: The ten years we have exprienced together are precious to us, right now we are living a future we couldn’t have ever imagined when we first debuted. I never thought we would celebrate our 10th Anniversary together with everyone at Nippon Budokan. Originally we didn’t even expect to ever perform live with band members. To think that we have come this far and that we got the chance to introduce Kalafina’s music to so many people makes me incredibly happy. It feels like what the three of us have always dreamed about, our shared dream, has come true. We wanted to do lives, we wanted to do tours, these were aspirations born out of our burning passion, that was our wish so that’s why we were able to get this far and why we were willing to continue onwards through all the hardships.

―― I see. 

Wakana: So far the three of us have lived with the same dream in front of our eyes. But the three of us also have a lot of curiousity when it comes to our individual dreams. As Kalafina we have had so many dreams and together we have seen them all come true so now I would like to get a glimpse of different dreams, of all the dreams the other two have. Very reminiscent of the lyrics of “I have a dream”. I wonder what those dreams will be.

―― So even if you weren’t 100% on the same page all the time, you have always been active working in unison?

Wakana: Yes, we have always pretty much worked towards the same vision. That’s why I am interested in more personal perspectives.

Hikaru: That’s right. Even after ten years I still have a long way to go so I would like to use this year for self-improvement. What else...? Personally, I still want to learn and absorb so many things, my thirst is insatiable. I am able to say that doing this job has made my dream come true but it is only one dream that has come true, beyond that I think many more things are necessary so I can continue to make my other dreams come true.That’s why I want to improve myself so that one by one I will become able to do all the things I want to do. I’d also like to improve my personal live.

Keiko: You can definitely do that!

―― What about Keiko-san?

Keiko: I have changed so much during our 10-year activity as Kalafina so now I am asking myself whether I can change even further. I am my current self because of these past ten years but to make progress even beyond those ten years, I would like to encounter more genuine works, I would like to create music that I find real, that I am enchanted with. Our activities as Kalafina singing Yuki Kajiura’s music, it was a time spent delving into something genuine together with everyone. It’s amazing to lead a life where you can pursue something that feels worthy of being pursued.

Tears Shed in The Dark 2

wowow here is the part 2 I said I had! It’s nothing crazy. Just David and company reminiscing. I’m not sure if it’s canon, but hopefully, letting David live in Miller’s house is okay with y’all.

10 years had passed since Catherine Miller had lost her father and moved in with her uncle. And now at 22, she finally was going to visit her old house one last time. Venom and Quiet gave her a hug as she stood at the door. Catherine smiled,

“It’ll only be a few days. Then I’ll come back and well, I want to talk to you both about something.” Venom grinned ruffling her hair,

“Just make sure you call us every now and then. I’ve spent 10 years worrying about you. I’m not stopping today.” She nodded opening the door,

“Obviously I will V. I’ll see you both later!” With a wave Catherine sighed. If she was lucky, she’d make it to the house on the twenty-fifth.

Luck seemed to be on Catherine’s side as the afternoon sun shone on the snow around the familiar house. Catherine was surprised to see smoke coming from the chimney. She didn’t know anyone had lived there since her father. She decided to look around the outside first, going around she saw that the backyard fence that had been used to keep Shiba now held even more dogs. Catherine could swear it was at least fifty. Heading back to the front of the house Catherine could hear people inside,

“Hal! I saw a lady outside! She was so pretty! And she had these cool glasses!” Who Catherine assumed to be Hal, spoke next,

“Y-You what! D-Dave, could you check that out!?” Catherine sighed walking up to the door. She didn’t know she’d have to intrude on someone’s day. Especially not on the anniversary of her father’s death. She stood at the door as it opened. The man who opened the door, his eyes went wide as he looked at Catherine,

“Master Miller?” Catherine gasped as the man spoke. She knew that voice. It was a lifetime ago, but she knew that voice,

“David?” It was confusion that crossed his face first then it turned into realization,

“Wait, his daughter! C-Catherine, is that you?” Taking off her father’s glasses Catherine hugged David. It had been too long since she’d heard his voice,

“David, my god it’s been too long!” David slowly closed his arms around Catherine. Catherine pulled away and placed her hands on his shoulders,

“You look so old!” David chuckled,

“And you’re wearing Master Miller’s glasses.” She smiled sadly at the name,

“Yeah.” From behind David, ‘‘Hal’’ spoke,

“David who is it? Do you know them?” David welcomed Catherine in. She stared at the living room. It hadn’t changed very much. A new chair there, a coloured rug here. Catherine looked in front of her to see a thin man staring back at her. Messy black hair framed his face, and glasses reflected the light. Catherine paused, giving the stranger a wave,

“Hi. I’m Catherine Miller.” Immediately the man’s eyes sparkled,

“Wait like, the same Miller that trained David and made war economy a thing?” She paused, did her dad actually do that? David sighed,

“This is his daughter Hal.” Hal nodded with an “oh!” a stuck his hand out, Catherine firmly shook it,

“Nice to meet you…” Hal stared for a moment,

“Hal! Hal Emmerich. Nice to meet you Catherine.” She smiled as a little girl peeked from behind Hal. Catherine waved with a smile,

“Hello there.” The girl grinned walking out of her hiding spot,

“Hello! I’m Sunny!” Catherine chuckled,

“Nice to meet you Sunny. I’m Catherine.” Sunny smiled as David went and sat on the couch,

“Can I ask why you came back, not much here for you.” Catherine sighed,

“Thought I’d see home one last time before I go and live my life.” Hal took a moment,

“Does that mean you used to live here? David isn’t this where they found your mentor’s… ?” Both Catherine and David nodded. David perked up and looked at Catherine,

“How are you alive? Whoever killed Miller, they were out for blood. They would have killed everyone in the house.” Catherine looked at David closely, chuckling,

“Well I went to stay with my uncle Venom. Thinking about it, he looks alot like you.” She watched as David paled,

“He does?” She nodded pulling out her camera from the shoulder bag she usually wore,

“Yeah, I have a picture of him! Wanna see?” David rushed over as Catherine brought the picture onto the screen. His eyes went wide,

“He’s alive?!” Catherine worriedly put the camera down,

“David what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” He took a step back,

“Who is that Catherine?” She looked quizzically at him,

“I’ve always known him as Venom. He’s not a bad guy David.” David bit his lip,

“C-Can you call him over?” Catherine paused,

“It’ll take a few days. But I can.”

A few days past, since Catherine had arrived at the house, and things had been going well. David was still worried about Venom’s visit. Anyone could tell by just looking at him. And Catherine had learned what David and her father were doing. She was amazed by the story David told, and she couldn’t wait to get the other half from Venom. Although, V sounded too happy when she’d asked him to come over. Hal had been fun to talk to, and Sunny was a joy. Just being around the small family made Catherine’s heart yearn. David and Hal had let her stay on the couch, but she could barely sleep. Just being in her old home again reignited feelings long thought gone. Sometimes she found herself standing where she had stood 10 years before, when her father had given her his glasses. 

Catherine hadn’t mentioned that the day she arrived was the anniversary of her father’s death. She didn’t want David or skirt around mentioning him, or have any of that awkward pity.

The night before Venom was to arrive Catherine couldn’t sleep, again. Memories were flying through her head. Playing with her father. Stories, songs, time spent together. Soon it became too much and all Catherine could do was step outside. Wrapping the knit blanket she’d been given tight around her shoulders, Catherine leaned off the porch rail. It was cold. Cold enough she felt it bite into her skin. Yet Catherine didn’t care, because at least it wasn’t him.

 A small bench was on the porch and Catherine curled up onto it. Looking to the sky, the millions of stars stared back. The Northern Lights glistened and the moon’s gentle light caressed everything in sight. Catherine felt at home, peaceful memories slowly filtered through. She had more control outside, instead of everything hitting her at once. Late night snuggles, and hot chocolate seeped through the cracks of her mind. She closed her eyes letting the cold and the night wash everything away.

The door creaked open and Catherine snapped her head to the door shrinking her figure. She only relaxed when she saw that it was David. He looked over to her and sighed,

“You’re going to get sick out here. Come back inside.” She grimaced,

“In a second. Just need to breathe. Did I wake you?” David softened slightly,

“No. I’m a light sleeper sometimes. Thought I’d see what you were up to.” Catherine stiffly got up heading to the door,

“Alright. I’d hate to have disturbed you.” David chuckled,

“You’re nothing like him. Or, your manners aren’t anyway.” Catherine sighed gently sitting down on the couch. David sat next to her,

“Are you okay?” Catherine groaned quietly,

“No. I can’t sleep, and I already feel like I have to go back outside.” David pat her shoulder,

“Just let it filter. Don’t try to hide or ignore anything. It’s the only way.” Catherine closed her eyes and did as David instructed. Image’s flowed and she didn’t even realize until she’d opened her eyes that she was crying. She let the tears fall and then, nothing. David hummed looking out the window,

“Isn’t a nice feeling? No big realization, no determined spark. Just, nothing.” Catherine breathed wiping her face,

“I’ve never felt better. And I’ve never felt worse.” David looked over to her quizzically, but Catherine just continued,

“He’s gone. Has been for a while. So,” Quietly she got up and walked to the mantle over the fireplace. On which there were mostly pictures of Hal, Sunny, and David. But in the centre was an old worn photo of Kazuhira Miller and a small bundle. Taking her father’s sunglasses off the coffee table Catherine placed them in front of the picture, “just for today, he can finally just be gone. I can always remember him tomorrow.” Two more tears slid down Catherine’s cheeks as she turned away from the photo. She sent a smile to David,

“You should get some sleep. I’ll be okay.” It was then David saw his master in front of him. Tired eyes and enough pain for two hidden behind a single convincing smile. That drive to work and distract that overflowing mind written clear as day. Blue eyes that at one point had sparkled now sat dulled. And messy hair too tedious to keep neat pulled into a loose ponytail. David resisted the urge to call out for him. For David, it really felt like he was there.

In the morning Catherine had “woken up” earlier than everyone else. She was busy cooking hashbrowns and bacon when Sunny woke up and smelled food,

“Miss Catherine? What are you doing?” Catherine smiled flipping a pepper container without spilling anything,

“Cooking breakfast. Hashbrowns, bacon, toast, pancakes, and eggs. I’m almost done. It’s just eggs and setting the table.” Catherine watched the little girl shift nervously. Smiling Catherine pulled over a nearby stool with her foot as she put the bacon and hashbrowns on a plate,

“Could you help me with the eggs Sunny? I hear you have a lot of practice.” Watching the little girl perk up and nod feverishly was more than enough for Catherine. And she’d had the most fun cooking in a while too. Sunny was always a joy to talk to. And it was even better to watch Sunny’s little eyes sparkle when Catherine spun around and caught an egg on the spatula. Hal, and David woke not to long after the girl’s were done cooking. Sunny smiled wide as they sat down to eat. David glanced over at Catherine, but didn’t get the chance to ask her if she had even gone to sleep. Sunny smiled when Catherine had given her pancakes shaped like a smile. And no one noticed the water welling in Catherine’s eyes. She couldn’t deny it, but this is all she’d ever wanted. A day at home where her whole family would be together. Catherine couldn’t wait to see Venom.

It was in the afternoon that Venom arrived. David had been in the back of the house checking on the dogs when there was a knock on the door. Hal had been talking to Catherine about anime again, while Sunny was playing in her room. Catherine jumped the couch and quickly opened the door. She smiled wide hugging her uncle,

“V! You’re here! And you brought Quiet!” Turning around Catherine seemed to hug air. Then Quiet appeared. Hal was left speechless at the sudden appearance of the woman and could only sit bug-eyed. Venom looked impressed,

“I didn’t know you could fix an old house like this so fast.” chuckling Catherine shook her head,

“No, I didn’t fix this house. David, Hal and Sunny live here. This is Hal!” Catherine ran over to Hal and grabbed his shoulders. Breaking the trance he had been in. Immediately he began stuttering,

“N-Nice to m-meet you! I’m Hal!” Venom smiled brightly,

“Please call me V, if you’d like! Or Ahab!” Hal was still staring directly at Quiet,

“Catherine, you are a-aware t-that woman just, just appeared right?!” Catherine laughed,

“That’s Quiet. She doesn’t talk, so me and V can help you understand her. She, uh, does that sometimes.” Patting Hal’s shoulder’s Catherine welcomed them in and told V why they were here,

“David asked if I could call you. No idea why. But he’s the soldier I used to know when I was little!” Venom froze. He still smiled, but he had a feeling this was going to be an awkward few hours.

Venom had forgotten every bad feeling however when Sunny came out. She peeked from around a corner and Venom gently smiled when he saw her. Quiet was too busy writing a reply to one of Hal’s many questions to notice. Sunny slowly came from behind the wall and walked over to Catherine,

“Who’s that Catherine?” With a smile Venom waved,

“I’m uncle V. Though, I guess, I’m more grandpa V to you little one.” Sunny stopped. She had liked the way Catherine had talked about her uncle and decided he didn’t look scary. Sunny actually giggled seeing the bright knitted sweater he wore. Catherine beamed as Sunny went to sit with Venom,

“He’s just a big teddy bear Sunny. You should show him your dogs later. He loves dogs.” Venom shook his head reaching over and ruffling Catherine’s hair as she walked by,

“Don’t tell her all my secrets Catherine.” Catherine merely stuck her tongue out and was surprised to see David standing in the doorway of the back door. Pale,

“David? Are you okay?” Catherine reached out to David. He didn’t even register her being there. Instead David could only mumble,

“But I thought. He went with… the-” David suddenly rushed forward and Catherine wasn’t quick enough to catch him. He walked over to Venom and paused. Venom looked back calmly asking Sunny to go to Hal. David didn’t even speak,

“David. It’s good to see you. Looking as old as I am.” David’s face contorted into rage and confusion,

“You should be dead. Both of you.” Venom nodded,

“Should be, and we are. I’m just an old man now David. I have no mission.” David was at a loss for words. Catherine hovered behind Venom worriedly. Venom sighed,

“I want nothing more than to live out my days in peace. Although, I’m sure Catherine would appreciate us both being, around at least.” Catherine tapped Venom’s shoulder and he pat her hand,

“Catherine, it’s time you learn what your father used to do with me, and, who I used to be.” Catherine sat down on the couch. And she listened. And for once, she understood her father. Why he wouldn’t go with her, why he never talked about her mother, why he knew he would die. Why he gave her his glasses. Catherine understood him. Catherine could forgive him, even though she never blamed him in the first place,

“So dad was… Your best friend, even though he knew you weren’t, who you were?” Venom chuckled,

“It’s confusing, I know. Honestly I’m just glad that he still talked to me after… everything.” Catherine shrugged. It felt like she was supposed to be amazed by all this information. But she was just thankful she did know. She glanced at David, everything about him radiated with distrust. Venom was quick to see it,

“I don’t expect you to ever trust me David. But at least save your glares for when I’m gone. Unless Catherine or you invite me, I won’t stick around here. Too many memories.” David huffed,

“Christ, you really did raise her. Was it you who taught her to go outside to breathe?” Venom shot a look back to Catherine,

“No. I’ve told her not to do that. Catherine, do you mind explaining?” Catherine smiled backing away,

“Y’know, I think it’s time we make lunch! We’ve all been talking for a while, hm! Sunny want to help?” Sunny laughed as she ran to the kitchen. Catherine clapped her hands shrugging as she quickly disappeared also.

Venom held in a laugh. Looking around he was surprised with how bright the house was. Yet there was nothing of Kaz’s save the chair Venom was sitting on,

“David, Hal, did Kaz leave anything? Pictures, heirlooms, things like that?” Hal shook his head,

“No. When we got here it was empty. Just that chair there, and that picture on the mantle. Even the beds were gone. But we found those in the dump about a week after we moved in.” Venom nodded. With a groan Venom got up and looked at the pictures on the mantle. He liked all the pictures of David, Hal, and Sunny together. But Once he got to the centre Venom’s face fell. The old worn photo still carried enough detail that you could see the faint smile on Kaz’s face as he shakily held Catherine. Venom remembered that day. He watched the photo get taken and afterwards Kaz had begged someone to carry Catherine because he was so terrified of dropping her. Breaking from his trance Venom saw Kaz’s glasses neatly placed in front of the photo. He smiled,

“This is the first time I’ve seen her go without these for so long.” David grumbled,

“Jeez, she really does take after master Miller doesn’t she?” Venom smiled,

“In more ways than you know David. In more ways than you know.”

 How did you spend New Year's?

I didn't do anything in January, so I honestly can't say much about it.

Really? In that case I'd like to go back and talk about "THE DAY IN QUESTION 2019".  So on the first day, you played in a new venue in Takasaki.

It felt rather special you know, to have our first show be in Gunma as it's also our home turf.

How did you find starting the set list off with "Muma - The Nightmare"?

It felt like a powerful way to start. No matter which song it is, or how many times we've played it, I try to make each part compelling to listen to by having a clear image during rehearsals, and I think that came through.

Including the two winter themed songs, "Snow white" and "SILENT NIGHT" made for an impressive performance.

It seems like Yuuta and Hide were in agreement about that. Like if we're going to do a segment with two winter songs, then these two feel right for that. I think they left an impression on everyone involved. Back in the day, I would sing with the guitar for "SILENT NIGHT", but now because I have the ear monitor, I can adjust the sound the way I like so I wondered what it would be like if I sang with the rhythm parts. It worked out because I didn't really mind it.

As for "Datenshi", it was also your first time performing it live even though you had already recorded it. How did the audience react to hearing it for the first time live?

Even though we've played the song and heard it a number of times by then, the audience knew absolutely nothing about it. So I think it's a little hard to say, I mean they only heard it once. But I did wonder what sort of impression it gave everyone.

You also changed the set list up a little bit for each venue.

The idea came while rehearsing for the first show in Takasaki, I thought if we're rehearsing them anyway, why not perform them all, this way we can do our utmost to ensure that each show has a different feeling.

Were there any incidents during the tour?

No, it ended without any incidents . . . . . . Well ok, there were a couple of little hiccups. Like my surprise at the intro that sounded like NIN [1].

Oh, are you referring to the "LOVE ME" performance at Yoyogi?

Yes. I was taken aback. Like what? Is this really how the song goes? *smiles*

Did you end up double-checking reflexively?

I thought something happened because of where I was on stage, so I wanted to verify.

It was also your first time performing at Yoyogi Stadium, how did you find being on stage there?

The people who are high up and in the last rows are terribly far away as I expected. But at least the audience can watch the show on the huge screens. It's just that there's really absolutely nothing I can do about it, they felt too far away. I told them I was sorry they were so far. There wasn't even anyone directly in front of me to soothe my heart[2] even though both sides of the venue were filled right to the back. It felt a little strange.

Were you nervous?

Even though I'm doing this with others, I do have to concentrate on drawing the performance from myself, and that's not something that changes even if the venue does.

One thing that was different on that day from the others was that there was a camera above the stage during "Saibougu Dori: Soramimi: PHANTOM".

As always we had Hayashi-san as our Director, and as he always does, he came up with a few ideas on how to change things up for us.  So he said, "What do you think of having a camera above the stage?" And we said, "Sounds great, let's try it out." I thought it was funny because that was all decided without us knowing that it would be live streamed on (WOWOW).

I know "LOVE ME" isn't exactly meant as a happy song originally but, I thought it was incredible, it had that great rousing feeling like a grand finale. It was moving.

That was the point of choosing this song, I thought it might give that feeling. And I was thinking that if it's the absolute last song, then it might make everyone happy, including Yuuta *smiles*.

Yuuta-san?

He hadn't picked it as the last song, but it was his song choice. We've ended shows with it before as well, and you know, once in a while I think it's good to do that.

Before the super rousing "LOVE ME" performance, you said, "Let's love ourselves." These are impressive words, so what were you thinking about to make you say that?

When you translate it directly, it's "Watashi wo aishite"[3], but I think it's important to love yourself first. This even ties into what's coming in the new album, so it's been on my mind a lot recently. But it's not like I had arranged to say that or even talked about saying something like that, it was really just me letting out my personal thoughts in the moment. I wasn't trying to sound super serious or anything, but I was trying to say that nothing will start if you don't take care of yourself first. I figured it would work with this song.

Hearing you say that, and considering what you told me about writing the lyrics for "Datenshi" in the previous issue, I thought you might like to talk about it a little more.

Thank you for that. Last year, lots of people came to our concerts, and so the year felt incredibly complete.  It was just that I had a lot of stuff going on in my personal life, like my friend passed away, then I was hospitalized again, and the balance between my mind and body had seemed to once again deteriorate so it was a very off year for me.

So have you turned over a new leaf with this new year? Or do you feel like your struggles are still ongoing?

It is something that I am actively working on, but at least I can put my feelings into work in this way, and use that energy to create something. So I'm not just bottling everything, and so with the new year I've slowly come to be more at ease with myself thanks to those around me.

I'm so glad. Right now you're in the midst of recording, and you've been putting in the vocals for Hoshino-san's songs right?

Yes. Our little ant has been hard at work as always *smiles*.

So you've been working with the ant and the grasshopper?

Actually, I haven't had a chance to see the grasshopper recently. Because we never hang out *smiles*. Recently I heard that for the grasshopper it feels like New Year's only just ended.

He told me he has five songs ready.

Really? Good, he's serving his purpose well enough for now then.

How do you feel about being done with the lyrics for both of Hoshino's songs?

I finished up with the second song today. It feels like I'm just getting by, doing things one step at a time.

It's good to have a range in what you're able to say in songs, but what sort of feeling do you think the songs may have when they're done?

I'd say the one I recorded today has that swing beat pattern like festival drums.  Like heave-ho! Heave-ho![4] *smiles*

That's . . . . . .hard for me to imagine so what sort of lyrics did you write for that?

Fruitless ones[5].

Do they tie in with what you put out before with "Datenshi" and "Luna Park"?

I think I can sum up my position in "Datenshi" by saying I was confronting my own feelings. It's a dark song, so it moves away from that festive direction. It's that depressed feeling of being unable to guess a person's feelings completely. So it's like, ok from now on, I will strip away the mask I wore to protect myself.

Did working on the lyrics for the other two songs go relatively smoothly?

I always worry you know. I change them right up till the very day I'm going to record the vocals for them because there's no way for me to know if they're ok. I have to check them over myself. So I worry but,  I've been trying to tell  myself it's better if I just do what I like.

I still can't really get a full picture of what the album will be like but, how do you think it will turn out to be?

You know I'm not sure, I'll know more once I've heard more of Imai-san's songs.

According to Imai-san, the album's theme will be a word with seven characters. So that means he must have a precise image in mind.

That's his hint?

That's his hint. *smiles*

I haven't had a chance to see the grasshopper lately so I don't know. If we hadn't announced it in Yoyogi . . . . . .I wonder whether or not he'd get anything done by autumn. *smiles*

I hope his progress goes well *smiles*

I hope so too.

You will also be starting a tour in May.

If our old bodies don't give out on us before then. But I want to get through this so we can do it.

Do you feel like you have a lot of emotions you'd like to express with your lyrics?

Yes. From the first listen it was like, "Ah yes, this song will be like this." I knew right away what I wanted them to be about. So now I want to hurry up and sing them.

Lastly, would you please offer a message to everyone looking forward to the tour in May[6].

To all the fan club and mobile members, it's a domestic tour as you know but we're hoping to give it a slightly different feeling than a typical hall tour because we'd like the audience to feel closer. I don't really know if it will work out, but I do hope we can do the concerts. Also, I wanted to thank everyone for wearing things like masks during this difficult time.

[2] I had a little bit of trouble here. The word used in Japanese is 'スコーン' can mean the Urdu word 'sukoon'. Sukoon refers to a state of calm in the mind and peace in the heart. Thus I translated it as 'to soothe my heart'. However, the katakana used can also be translated as 'scone'. In which case Sakurai would be saying that there wasn't even anyone in front of him with a scone. That sounded off to me, but I'm including it in a note just in case that is what was meant.

[4] He specifically uses the sounds cried out during festivals for the drummers, and the "Heave- ho!" is what is usually cried out by those carrying the portable shrine.

[5] The word used, "不毛" has several different meanings. Without knowing the exact lyrics it is difficult for me to judge which English word would fit best. Thus I chose "fruitless" as it had the broadest range. Other possible meanings include: barren, sterile, stark, bleak, desolate, vain.

A Conversation: Bedhead

“Bedhead is a dreamy Indie synth-pop musician that hails from Toronto Canada.”

First off, who are you? Hello! I’m Veronica, but you probably know me better as Bedhead! I like all things art. Music, painting, photography, drawing, etc... I like to do it all! I’ve been singing since before I could even talk, and a musician for almost my entire life.

Tell me about your journey and how it all led to the career and name that is Bedhead? Aside from music, my background is actually in multimedia and communications. But after graduating, I was really miserable doing the whole 9-5 corporate thing found myself missing creative outlets in my work. I started a job hosting art parties which I loved, but that made me realize that I really missed actually performing in front of people. At this point I was working on a music project with a friend, but that never saw the light of day. I realized that I wanted to pursue music, I had this vision of what I wanted to do, and no one was going to make that happen but myself. All these things were sort of like little streams leading to a bigger river, and that’s how Bedhead was born!

I liked the name Bedhead for a number of reasons. The main reason is that it represents leaving a place of safety like your bed but still showing up anyway. It takes a lot of strength to do that. When I started writing music, I was going through depression. Anyone who has experienced this knows that some days getting out of bed is the most difficult chore. But getting up despite your struggles, maybe not totally together or perfect but still trying, shows incredible resilience. Aside from that, I’m a pretty active dreamer (sometimes I wrote songs in my sleep!) and I also get a lot of compliments on my curly hair so it pays tribute to that a little too haha.

Do you or have you ever had any affiliation with the 1998 Texas rock band Bedhead?  STORY TIME! As you can tell above, I put a lot of thought into names… sometimes too much. I kid you not, it took me about a year to pick Bedhead, and I had more than 20 potential names for this project in the SHORT list. Any artist knows as soon as you think of a name you like, look it up. When I looked up Bedhead, I found this Texas rock band that broke up over 20 years ago and my family and friends thought it was perfectly fine to use the name. Just in case, I found their website (which looked like it hadn’t been changed since ‘98) and sent off an email, I had no idea if it was still active or anything. The name at this point meant so much to me, it really represented everything I wanted this project to be, and no other name I had thought of came close to it. I didn’t hear back for a while and told myself, if this name is meant to be, they will respond, and either way I will be okay. One of the members responded the next day! Gave me his blessing AND the website. I believe most of the members are now in Atlanta, I would love to meet them someday.

Let’s talk your recent single Fight No More, I must say, it is so damn good and the video is fantastic. If your fans could take any message from the new single, what would you want it be? Wowow thank you so much! The message to its barest bones is that you don’t have to take crap from anyone, even yourself. When I was going through depression, I eventually hit this wall where instead of getting sad, something snapped, and I realized I didn’t have to a prisoner to my own mind anymore. I wanted the song to come from a point of view of dealing with another person, like “If my depression were a friend who I knew was no longer good for me and my well being, what would I say to them?”

Like I mentioned the music video is fantastic, the color in it is great. Where did the idea for the music video come from? Who shot it? Since the song is written from the perspective of two people but really about an inner battle, I sorta envisioned myself fighting myself. Like trying to take back control of your life from your own demons. I had that brief plot outline when I pitched the idea to the director, Jacq Andrade, but that was about it. She immediately understood what I was going for, and we had a great brainstorming session. We both love colour, and wanted the visuals to be eye-catching. The result was the beautiful trip inside the psyche that is this music video. She’s a total visionary, and I’m so happy we brought to life.

Your first single you put out that made everyone first take notices was Bitter, a favourite of mine; With two singles out of the bag, do you already have an idea for an album coming up? How is the process been going for that anyway? Yes! Bitter and Fight No More are both going to be on an upcoming EP coming this year! The idea for the EP has been brewing for quite some time now, so I’m excited to finally share what I’ve been up to since last year. It’s been an awesome journey getting to this point, a lot of self discovery and inner reflection, trying different ideas and sounds to find what works best with the vision.

What is your thoughts on labels wanting to give "makeovers" to new artists they sign? I try to stay open to change while still being faithful to myself. I mean even how I write music changes all the time!  We’re constantly exposed to new experiences, people, places, etc. and I try to stay open to how they might inspire my music. When we close ourselves off to new or different ideas because they don’t fit what we’re “trying to do” we limit our creativity. Even if I don’t know what the change will bring or where it’ll take my sound, I think as artists it’s how we grow.  

What sort of things/artists/ideas inspire you these days to create the music that you do, in the style you do? I am always inspired by nature, usually more in my photography, but lately it has been creeping into my music too! There’s a song on this EP about that...

When can fans look forward to Bedheads next show and what can they expect? We’re currently in the process of tweaking the live setup, we have drums now!! We’ve been in winter hibernation practicing, making some visuals, getting everything ready so we’ll be ready to rock for some late winter/ early spring shows. Stay tuned!

I’m not quite sure what to write about because you’ve now heard the stories i have that lend themselves most to being told. the others are mainly… experiential things? BuT. I did put on the list ‘musings on christiana’ at one point so I’m gonna scour my journal for things I’ve put in there about our least favourite (FAVOURITE) cowboy.

I actually originally meant I’d just write my thoughts when we met to when we parted butttt then i got curious and wanted to see how far back the first time I mention them is. Turns out it’s Sunday, February 26th 2017. the excerpt from my journal reads as follows: 

Life moves along and I spill alongside it and can’t find my own shape. Nothing fits and nothing feels good. I keep making up these paths and systems to get better but. But. I made a tumblr though. It’s 14:30 and i have done nothing today except tumblr-stalk a new favourite writer. They’re just. Aghj (incomprehensible squiggle). Can’t.

Oh my god. If only I’d known then.

Then on Tuesday, April 25th:

I’ve been thinking about my intimacy issues. It’s honestly not very comprehensible. There are people i can pick out that i absolutely love. And not because I have to. Loving someone is so much easier than wanting anything consequences of that love. I love Alessia, I love Becca, I love Avia, I love Christiana… it’s just easier? than what? who knows. It’s got me wondering, though. See, it’s got me wondering about why I love someone like i love stars and duvets and balconies and it makes me want to cry because holy shit that would feel so nice. Who knows, my guy.

my heart went too fast for a while on mandy last night so i wrote to christiana and i think we roasted tyler a little until I felt good again. Then I cuddled with someone. Can’t remember who. God I’m tired. I’m not sure I slept.

July 9th:

I’m at the Russian Chapel up the valley. My ears are so bad that my teeth hurt now. I’m still considerably ill. But! still moving on. I really fucking needed to. lovely people but… food. And somehow too much of everything else, too. OF what? Who knows. I did let C know I’m not doing so great with food, though. I hope she won’t judge. They. I don’t think they will. so at least she’s aware. They’re aware. I feel like an idiot every time I get it wrong but. Ya know, it’s just a thing I never heard or said for the first 17 years of my life because it never came up. So in my head I often subconsciously do the ‘she’ thing. Edy is solidly ‘they’. Jon is always and without hesitation ‘he’. But sometimes it takes a few tries with other people. I have no idea why

July 14th:

I’m at the station listening to a podcast on Morgan Le Fay. I’m nervous now. What will we talk about?? Internet conversation is. easy. My ears are better. I don’t know what we’ll talk about. Shit. I’mm not good at this and i care about this? They’re the kind of person that I feel like I should’ve known forever. As in, i feel like this would be the kind of friendship that was good for both people and gives something that i needed. So. I shouldnt be worried then. But? Can’t help it. I mean maybe it could help that we’re both like this. we may be able to just sit… in…. silence. that. WASN’T intentional. god. aw shit I hate me when I’m like this. is this what it is to care if someone likes you when you meet them??! God, this is awful? Is this what people usually feel how awful. How cool. I think the train’s coming in. I’m barely paying attention to the podcast

July 15th:

I feel like I talk too much. it’s not the easiest it could be but it could definitely be harder? They’re quiet and sometimes it makes me feel like I’m yelling or saying too much and oversharing. Sometimes? uhhhhh all the time but I think that might be my default setting anyway

walking with someone is strange. we’re at the place we’ll sleep at now. It was gentle going getting here and I guess it’s gonna take us very little time to get back. I buy coffee and they buy bus tickets. works out. walking with someone is strange but especially given the whole nature of this trip, it’s not too weird. I think because I never got to feel alone, I don’t mind sharing it. I think they’re having an okay time? I hope they don’t regret coming. So what if this whole trip has been… not the seclusion I wanted or needed. Meeting them was still great and I wouldn’t prefer a timeline where I called the trip off. I get that feeling that I have sometimes with Alessia, as if I’m trying to entertain or something? like a part of me wants to be stilted so I have a layer in between in case they turn around and say they don’t like me. I fear I’m telling them too many things. About me, about my thought process, about random things that pop into my head. About things I know or want to know or have picked up. I fear I’m disturbing some sacred silence. Especially because I prefer silence myself. And they’re patiently waiting for me to finish. I worry a lot considering what a good time I’ve had? We ate and laughed and talked. I am so fucking relieved that bipolar occurred to them when I described my brain cause I thought i was doing my insane self-diagnosing thing. We tried horse and i couldn’t tell the difference. We saw some Big Boy Moths and birds called tits. Vultures are unremittingly ugly but i like them? there’s a certain kinship. This isn’t how it usually goes and I wish I could say that without sounding whiny

July 18th:

All my compasses say the sun rose in the north east. Slept pretty well. the sunrise was gorgeous. C said it was more comfortable than expected. It was actually really comfortable. Listen, this will sound like something it’s not but future hannah will get what i mean but honestly their eyes are so beautiful? it didn’t come across in photos. uhh that’s all.

July 19th:

We found an open door in the compound. I think we slept on someone’s office floor. We left around sunrise and had multiple coffees by the river. played so ukulele. listen, this whole thing wasn’t normal but i’m so glad we fell into what we fell into. this feels safe. There were people outside going back and forth in front of the door all night and i dont think i really slept but it was still Good. We lit a candle that slowly started to smell nice. when we left, we left a single cigarette and a licorice cough drop as thanks to the old gods. either way, we parted quickly, just a quick hug and a vague notion that we might do this again? Good.

August 7th:

I just finished the cowboy fic and never has what essentially amounts to a giant meme of beautifulness touched me so.I swear. They’re ridiculous. The cowboys and Christiana.
