WHEN ETHAN HEARD HIS NAME BEING CALLED, EVERYTHING STOPPED. It wasn’t the fact that it was literally shouted aloud in the hallway, making everyone’s attention drift towards the person who had yelled it. It was the fact that said person was Y/N Y/L/N—cheer captain and prettiest girl in the school. Why was she saying his name? Actually, how did she even know his name?

Ethan didn’t have time to think, because she was moving towards him like a full on rainstorm and Ethan felt his legs getting weak, as if there were about to fail him. “Ethan!” she said breathlessly from running down the hall.

“H-hi” Ethan replied in a low voice, blood rushing to his face because of the unwanted attention. She was going to say something really hurtful and everyone was going to hear it. Cheerleaders making fun of people like Ethan wasn’t something uncommon, he had experienced it countless of times.

“Shit. I caused a scene, didn’t I? I’m so sorry” she sounded genuine, which made Ethan confused. Where was the insult? “I called your name before you exited the classroom, but you didn’t seem to hear me”. Ethan’s brain seemed to have been failing him because he was not able to utter a single syllable. “Anyways, you left your coat” she showed him the blue cloth that belonged to him with a tiny smile on her face.

He cleared his throat, coming back to his senses “Oh… thank you”

“You’re welcome!” Y/N said with a bright smile. “I’m Y/N, by the way”.

“I’m Ethan” he did an awkward wave, which the cheerleader thought was very adorable.

“Yeah, I know. You sit next to me in English” Y/N let out a little laugh.

The boy laughed nervously “Right, I know, I just thought you wouldn’t remember”

“Well, I remember you, Ethan Landry” she assured him with a smile, making him blush even harder. This reaction brought Y/N a sense of victory, and she decided she enjoyed seeing the boy blush for her “Are you taking the coat or you’re going to keep staring at me?”

“Oh, sorry” he grabbed the coat with shaky hands. That’s when Y/N noticed the piece of paper he was holding and the A+ written in red marker.

“You got an A+ in the Brave new world essay?” she asked surprised.

“Y-yeah” was this the part she was going to mock him? He knew her being nice was too good to be true.

But, once again, she surprised him. “Do you mind if I take a look at it? I didn’t do so well in mine” Y/N asked, feeling a bit embarassed by confessing that.

“Yeah, sure, no problem”

As she read, he took the opportunity to admire her. Y/N’s shiny hair fell flawlessly over her face, creating some kind of curtain. He wanted to tuck it behind her ear, but it would be extremely weird. His eyes then went to her face: her eyes were furrowed as she took in the words written on the paper, and she bit her lip in concentration—Ethan felt the need to brush his finger against it, because that action drove him crazy—and suddenly his heart clenched when he noticed her saddened expression.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked softly.

“I’m not doing so well in English. If I don’t pass the make-up exam, I won’t be able to keep my position as cheer captain”

“You still have a chance, then” he tried to light up her mood.

“Yeah, but if this is what I have to write in order to pass… I’m screwed. I could never write something like this” Y/N sighed in frustration “Your writing is completely amazing, by the way”

“Thanks. I could tutor you, if you want” the words left his mouth before he could think twice.

“Really?”

Her eyes shone with such hope that he couldn’t say anything but, “Yes”.

Y/N wanted to hug him so bad, but she noticed how uncomfortable he was under the gaze of others, and her touching him was only going to make things worse for him. People were already whispering things such us: ‘Why is Y/N talking to that nerd?’ ‘Does he even go here?’ ‘Isn’t he the one who is always answering questions in Econ?’

She resisted the urge to scowl at every single person in the hallway. Why they gotta be so mean? “Thank you so much! When are you available?”.

“Any day, to be honest. But you have cheerleading practice, so you tell me”

He was so considerate and adorable she wanted to cry. “So make-up exam is this friday, meaning we have today, tomorrow and Thursday. Is it okay if we meet those days at 6:30?”

“Yeah, no problem. Can you come over to my dorm? The library is always crowded during exam weeks”

“Yeah, that sounds good. I’ll give you my number so you can text me your address” he handed her his phone and typed her number. “There you go”

“I’ll text you as soon as classes finish”

“What if I turn out to be the worst tutor ever?” he joked.

Y/N laughed. “I know you won’t. And even if you were, I’m still very thankful you are spending your free time doing this for me”

Y/N STARED AT THE RESULT IN COMPLETE SHOCK. Were her eyes deceiving her? Was Mr. Keating pulling a joke on her?

“Thank you so much!” she exclaimed, grabbing the paper as if it were the most precious thing in the world.

If there was one thing Y/N knew about Ethan before he even started tutoring her was that he was completely terrified of attention. That’s why they never talked at school, only texted (a lot). Both of them became close, and soon tutoring wasn’t the only thing they hung out for. After they were done studying, she would stay for dinner and a movie, and together they shared their opinions on them.

Y/N also found out that, when he wasn’t around students and their gossiping mouths, Ethan was beyond funny and outgoing. And also, while he was adorable and sweet, Y/N discovered that he had a flirty side—which she enjoyed very much and she always let him know that by blushing like a school girl. It was safe to say that the girl had absolutely fallen for the boy’s charm.

And Ethan fell for her charm too. She was kind, talented, beyond smart—which she always said was a lie, but Ethan was always there to contradict her—understanding, and down to earth. He couldn’t believe he once thought Y/N was a mean, popular, spoiled cheerleader. She was beautiful and amazing and he liked her more than he had expected.

“Ethan!” the girl’s voice instantly made his heart start racing. The brunette raised his head from the book he was reading to see the cheerleader running towards him. Next thing he knew, she threw herself at him, and he fell on his back. Thankfully, he had been sitting so it didn’t hurt.

“Hi there!” Ethan laughed, hugging her tightly. He would never get tired of her closeness.

“I did it!” Y/N exclaimed showing her the exam, still lying on top of him.

“That’s awful, Y/N” he frowned. She deserved so much better “Are you seriously telling me no one had an ounce of faith in you?”

“Well, there is one person who always betted on me. He would never get tired of telling me how smart I was, even when I was constantly saying the opposite” her eyes looked so bright, he wondered if he would ever be able to look away.

“Oh yeah? So he cheers the cheerleader?” he joked, making her laugh.

“Dork” she beeped his nose “Anyways, you want me to tell you about this guy?” Ethan nodded, sitting up. Y/N remained on his lap. “So, I could talk about him for days, but I’m going to keep it simple and tell you my favorite things about him. First of all, he has the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen and I swear I could stare at them forever. He’s very passionate about movies, and his little rants about them are the best thing I’ve ever heard. He gives the best hugs in the world, but then again I might be a little biased because I just love being in his arms”

“You do?” he looked up at her in awe.

“I do” she affirmed. “He’s the only one who sees me as more than just a popular cheerleader. He’s sweet and sincere. He blushes a lot when I compliment him, just like you’re doing right now” she teased. “His smile… holy shit, it makes me forget about everything. Especially when they are directed at me”.

you sighed heavily, trying to distract your worried mind that screamed about wanting to get out and at the same time never wanting to leave. it was downright confusing, and left you with pent up energy that made your brain go 100/mph.

One of my favorite things about the Tori/Itachi fake->real relationship arc is the reactions you've mentioned for everyone else. Deidara particularly who is just constantly suffering from whatever random thing Itachi has done this week.

deidara would never have been able to predict this development, but now that it's happening it seems like he should have. he should have sat down and gone "what is the worst thing my teammates could do to me?" and then reverse engineer this. alas, he didn't, and somehow he got convinced to take their engagement photos?

anyway the rest of this post is about shisui. im haven't developed his relationship with tori uch so this is still rotating/could change

so in this au shisui loves itachi dearly and vice versa, but also shisui is acutely aware that itachi is a weird paranoid little freak. he does not know he's a time traveler. he does know itachi was very upset for years that danzo would Ruin Everything, especially sasuke somehow and also konoha, and then danzo suddenly died under mysterious circumstances. shisui has his suspicions about what happened but he is keeping his mouth SHUT

(shisui agreed danzo is Shady but minato has more of a leash on him than hiruzen, so shisui never felt the danger was like.... real?)

anyway tori and shisui just like... don't really get along. but by the time the whole danzo incident is resolved, tori is really firmly itachi's close friend. they can't avoid each other. awkward smiles all around.

so when itachi is like "i'm going to try and date tori," shisui isn't, like, surprised? but also his advice is "if you date her just to be dating someone, and not because you actually like her, you'll risk ruining your friendship and you only have like three friends." it doesn't occur to him that tori isn't in on the relationship

but then shisui goes to like their book club or something and sees them actually interacting, and he immediately realizes his mistake, which was assuming itachi isn't a catastrophic moron. so he's like "oh NO little cousin" and assumes that eventually tori will kill him. RIP, itachi, you did this to yourself

and then she doesn't kill him, and shisui feels an intense wave of fear wash over him. he's like 82% sure she helped/enabled him to kill Major Village Leader Danzo. tori doesn't even blink when itachi randomly genjust-brainwashes people. he has never once questioned the multitude of insane claims she makes. they can't go forward like this. people WILL suffer

at the same time mikoto comes to shisui like WHY HASN'T ONE OF THEM CALLED IT OFF YET?" because she KNOWS itachi is only dating her to make mikoto stop throwing girls at him, and she doesn't dislike tori but she doesn't really like her either, and also SHE wants to pick her daughter-in-law even though she promised itachi she'd back off if he found someone himself. help her.

and listen. shisui doesn't like tori, he doesn't think this weird relationship move is a good idea, he DEFINITELY doesn't think she'll ever agree to marry into the family, but also he is itachi's brother. his ride or die.

shisui is forced to look mikoto in the eyes and be like, "idk, auntie, i think they're really, truly in love"

then they ACTUALLY get engaged and shisui has another wave of intense fear like no other

Pablo was watching you from behind, while you were talking with Pedri. He and your brother had to do an interview together for Barca channel, and the boys both agreed to meet at the back of the stadium.

You wanted to go so bad, so you begged Pedri to let you come too, and he, as an amazing brother as he is, accepted.

"I'm really curious what they will ask you." you said excited while jumping at the same time you were walking.

Gavi smiled at your silliness, but it was a shy one. He found you so beautiful outside and inside that he felt like if the world was ending, he would want to spend the last minutes with you, listening to your laugh.

"Don't be so happy. You'll get really bored."

The boy found himself smiling again, but not at Pedri's response to you, but at your reaction. The way you showed your brother your tongue in a silly way, made the young footballer in a better mood.

Everyone was happy to see you and hugged you, which made Gavi sad. He knew he didn't have a chance with you, you being way younger than him.

"Hi, cariño!" you greeted a kid that was standing on a chair, watching her favourite team train. She smiled at you and waved shyly.

You went to her and started to talk about anything that came into your minds. The little lady seemed to love your company, making you stay with her and her parents while Pablo and Pedri were doing the interview.

All time long, Gavi couldn't take your eyes off you. Hearing from time to time your laugh made him feel like he couldn't speak anymore.

alright next up on the list of ideas to dredge up from the drafts and talk about in more detail is the focus on books in this season, because its driving me around the bend

but because i literally have no answers whatsoever to this, im just going to do a crowley-core #justgirlythings and just ask questions:

ep2 goob (rip) lines: "books are key!" which ok yeah obvious but:

"and see, the big ones can be used as fly swats - and i know what you're thinking, but it's okay, because the beauty part is, it never works!"... hmmmm

but also earlier on, goob asks aziraphale "what [letter] comes after 'K'?", which is 'L', but goob then immediately refers back to his book that he's alphabetising, which is A Tale of Two Cities, and that starts with 'it'...? so why highlight the letter 'L'? (this might be something of nothing but given Book of Life idk could literally have been ANY other letter)

but then we have the rest of the episodes that cascaded from the two things above; first, the book blueprint of the universe in ep1, which AWCW was referring to, but only from page 11 onwards (so what was on pages 1-11?):

ep2: crowley discovering that jane austen wrote books (like, other than it being a comedic point of their conflicting remembrance of her as a person, and gives the "you think you know someone!" foreshadowing, it felt very pointed that crowley learns that she was a writer as well)

ep2 also sees aziraphale looking at a huge tome which, given everything that's going on, seems weird that he'd be randomly consulting? idk what the book is so not doubling down on this... anyone know if ive just missed something obvious?

but also makes a point of consulting the bible after goob recites what god said to job in the bookshop. which, given that he and crowley readily recognise what god says (he even says to crowley, "I most certainly do [remember]"), seems weird that they'd need to consult a book to remind them who job was and his story... could be exposition and for the cool fall-through effect, but possibly felt a bit unneeded. plus, it got aziraphale so absorbed that he totally conked out and missed crowley leaving the shop:

SO i was listening to a song my sister like (Valerie, Amy Winehouse) and there's this line about ginger hair and it was just so specific ig it stuck with me? so im thinking man who do i know with red hair...DUH KUWABARA!!!

nearly every song i listen to gets assigned a character or ship or relationship of some sort idk why but yeah once i fixated on the hair i was able to expand on the rest of the song and a sort of idea settled in the back of my head about kuwameshi

we all know kuwabara is always the one getting left behind but what if while he's off doing his thing yusuke also feels that sense of loss? an absence even though it was his decision to up and leave. it makes no sense cos hey! you felt the need to go back to the demon realm bro but he cannot help how he feels left behind in some illogical sense. i made some notes 😤😤

centers round the time where yusuke goes back to makai after the whole sensui debacle and kuwabara is getting his education studying in prep for college (hell yeah boy !!) not sure if the timelines even match up like that but i literally dont care

i'm working under the canon divergence that keiko really did decide she's not gonna wait for urameshi like that but ofc she's still his bestie and he loves her sooooo much <3

so he's going back. he's a demon now so he feels drawn to the culture. it's a side of himself he's never known after feeling so othered ofc he's interested right?

and like. last time he was in the demon world kuwa was WITH him yknow? like yeah the world was ending but it feels weird without him even if he is having a blast fighting with his new demon buddies and acquaintances

so he's a little distracted when he literally came here to fight he cant even focus on it

"how is college prep treating him? are the teachers there just as bad as middle school? did he make new human friends? a girlfriend?" basically he's spiraling over changes he might be missing out on this very moment

there's a bunch of talk in the song where the singer wonders if valerie dyed her hair if she's busy if she ever paid that fine if she sold her house if she got a man so that's where i got it lol

yusuke doesn't have to worry about kurama and hiei cos hey they're from here and have lived way longer and they actually do visit but who knows what typa shit could be happening to kuwa right now

ofc he can take care of himself he's really strong but yusuke can't help but remember that time he let kuwabara go when he shouldn't have and he almost died because he wasn't there and yeah. he's worried. sue him

so it's half worry half wistfulness and maybe some other secret third thing and when hiei and maybe kurama (depending on how the idea forms as i write) come to visit or maybe they're also participating wtv

he cant help but think well kuwabara could be here with us if he really WANTED to :/ he's got the jigen to down pat by now so...why hasn't he...

and those old but ever remaining insecurities resurface about how people don't wanna be around him they think he's a nuisance at best no good waste of time a trouble maker. keiko already dumped my sorry ass so who knows maybe kuwabara just...wisened up

and ofc kuwabara looks glad to see him but he wasn't desperate enough to just show up like yusuke had just done and he feels like a pathetic loser so he pouts

he's like yeah hey man just uh. checking in. and i should probably check out hah you seem busy with your books so im gonna scram and he tries to retreat through the window

and ofc kuwa is NOT letting him get away

and there's that desperation yusuke had selfishly wanted to see. kuwabara had just grabbed him without thinking even though he'd promised himself when urameshi left he wasn't gonna just sit around waiting for his life to start when he came back

he remembers when yusuke took him into that headlock and he wanted to succeed like he said he would that day

but still he's just thinking about urameshi all the time and it's awful. he always said he was gonna beat him some day but he just wanted to be near him. but all he sees is his back, even right now

i'm glad it clarified "posted" story (i literally have a unpublished wip titled "self-indulgent wes and soul BS" because it's a sequel to ANOTHER wip, also not finished. that fic is my personal playground). ANYWAY. ignoring the fact that ALL my fics are self indulgent, More Confused Than Usual [x] is probably the best example of one. for starters, it's Pokemon, a fandom i rarely write for. it's also contestshipping (May x Drew), a couple i have only absorbed through fanon because I never actually...watched Advanced Generation? i've seen clips but i've watched maybe ONE episode feature May and Drew from start to finish. and thirdly it's tropey as hell. who doesn't love a good amnesia shenanigans fic? the writer i mentioned in your previous ask, Bittersweet Romanticide? she'd write something like this. THAT's probably why i love it.

the last two fics i've posted both have the tag "food as a metaphor for love" which i found very funny in hindsight. is this my niche? i also love writing that gray area of love where 2 characters would die for each other but also have never come close to confessing their feelings or even admitting they HAVE feelings. my aroasexuality loves putting a lid on ANY concrete evidence of romance in my fics. YES these characters share a love that's strong enough to move mountains, to traverse oceans, to wage wars. no, they probably won't kiss.

any time someone tells me that my writing has like, existed somehow outside of their phone or laptop i lose my mind a little. like my baseline assumption is that people read my writing, then solemnly nod their head, think "hm.", and click the kudos button. so when someone tells me that my writing made them cry??? made them laugh out loud in class?? that they talked about my story with another human person? idk, it makes it feel more real. a real human person read something i wrote and somehow it caused a physical reaction out there in the world somewhere. isn't that weird?

i think my favorite piece of writing advice is that "write what you know" is terrible advice. or terribly reductive advice. whenever professors at my college would trot around that piece of advice with no follow-up i'd get so mad. like you want me to write what i know?? my day-job is Maid and my night-job is Couch Potato. i clean toilets and go home and watch TV. what the hell do i know? and who'd want to read that? it felt like i wasn't allowed to go beyond that in my writing because i didn't have experience with it. then i took those Stief courses and got BETTER writing advice. when writing what you know, you should be writing the EMOTIONAL TRUTHS you know. you don't need every character or situation to be 1 to 1 comparable to your life, but if you want what you write to believable then try to find the emotional truths within that situation that are. ex: an original concept i've toyed with is a story where the world fast-forwards a whole year in the blink of an eye. as in, the entire world FORGOT what happened in the past year, and now is struggling to pick up the pieces of their new lives. people have moved, gotten new jobs, broken up, had children etc. and have to grapple with these changes they have no context for. the main character? a woman who works at the penguin emporium at the zoo. she puts on a scuba suit and sucks up fish guts and penguin shit from the bottom of the tank. she teaches little kids about penguin gestation periods. the conflict? all of her co-workers and loved ones have dramatic Leap Year conflicts except for her, because her life doesn't appear to have changed at all. i have never experienced long or short term amnesia. i have not and never will work as a penguin shit vacuumer at a zoo. this is very outside the realm of my expertise and has required a lot of youtube video research about penguin care. it SHOULD fall outside of my WWYK bubble, but that doesn't matter! the emotional truth is something that resonates with me deeply, as a late 20s woman who had felt stagnant in her life while other people were changing rapidly around her. are the readers going to get caught up in the penguin details, or are they going to relate that the book shelf they've been planning to build for months is STILL sitting in its box a year later, while their neighbor just got engaged AND promoted? that they STILL leave their clean laundry on the chair in their room instead of folding it, but their favorite co-worker doesn't actually work with them anymore because they transferred to the department they've always wanted to work in? i could have my character be space alien. a deepwater fish. a Vegas showgirl. that stuff is all window dressing if i can still get THAT emotional truth across. THAT'S writing what you know. and i can know all of that from my night job sitting on my couch.

Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur

The great HTLJ/XWP/YH (re)watch continues!

Real talk, I watched this March 11 (it is now June 20) and then some things happened but I'm back now to type up my thoughts and my notes don't currently make any sense, so I'm going to have to skim through the movie again to remind myself.

Before I reorient myself, I want to highlight my favourite no-context notes I made to myself:

Now to remind myself what the hell this movie from 3 months ago was...

OH RIGHT. Okay.

So these chuckleheads traded cows for a map to this place, and they think they're gonna get the treasure of the god or something. I immediately noticed that the door was locked from the outside, and (to his credit) one of them also realizes this halfway through trying to open it, and they have a moment of debate about opening the door, but sadly the titular Minotaur busts out!

From my notes: "That guy fainted haha" Seriously IDK why the one guy just fainting while the other runs for his life tickles me, but it does.

I think the "HORSE" note was just about the massive horse that Hercules has at home because that was my reaction on this rewatch as well haha.

Hercules's sons are fighting, and when Herc tells them the rule is no fighting they argue with him that he fights people all the time. Herc says he only does that to keep people from getting hurt, and when he asks if they understand they're just like "No" and shake their heads like "you make no sense" and honestly that's such a real scene kid reaction. "I am choosing not to accept this rule, thanks!" XD

We then get the first of many extended flashbacks to prior movies.

HILARIOUSLY, it did not occur to me the first time that this was going to be a recurring thing. I was like "huh that's weird they're referencing the last movie. I guess this will be important".... Ugh.

Zeus shows up and asks Hercules if he misses adventuring. He says he does, which I thought was interesting! He first starts off saying nobody has come to him for help in a while, but then he sort of implies that he's staying at home with his wife and kids because of an agreement he made with her? I felt a bit weird about his line delivery there because I think we're just supposed to think he misses the fun of the adventures, but it comes off as a little like "well, I love my kids, but...". (Even tho in the last movie he got distracted staring at them.)

Anyway then Zeus gives him a sea serpent scale (which I was immediately very suspicious of, because I don't trust Zeus) and then we get another flashback, which I literally fast-forwarded through, and this is where I went "oh no..."

I'm not a fan of clip shows. 😅

Then we get the tits-out dinner scene I noted before. Damn, Dei is pretty (though her hair is a bit untamed here). How do they only have 3 kids?

We then get a bunch of shots of the Minotaur's lair and a few teaser shots of the Minotaur.

Then it's back to the house, Herc is putting his kids to bed. They request a story before bed, and since the first two the boys suggest didn't happen in the movies, we instead get a flashback to the movie where Herc meets Dei.

(Fast forward...)

The kids fell asleep, but Dei was into it and she takes our man to bed.

SURPRISINGLY, Herc didn't have a flashback dream overnight! So Herc is going about his morning and BAM!

Iolaus attacks him in the barn. (Playfully.) Now, can I just say, as someone coming from having watched the beginning of Young Hercules first, how nice a callback this is? Like, I realize they were conceived out of order, so the Young Hercules episode 1 scene where Iolaus attacks Herc (playfully) is a reference to this, but what a lovely little parallel! ♥ I love them. Look at how they look at each other.

They start talking about their farms, which honestly seems like exactly what they would talk about since they're both trying to manage farms? But I guess they thought the audience would be like "this is boring" because Iolaus launches into his own "remember the time"...

They then chat fireside and there's so much like, flirtatious vibes from Iolaus? Though I thought their banter was really cute, platonic or otherwise. They kinda tease each other but they're both so happy, it's really nice. I just love when characters clearly like each other this much.

But Iolaus manages to goad Hercules into a sparring match, which leads to the best line in the movie: "Mommy, what's Daddy doing to Uncle Iolaus?" And not just because it's a hilarious line, but also the little girl's line delivery is so precious.

We then get a really sweet scene where Dei and Iolaus talk privately and she confides that Herc has been going a bit stiry crazy. I really believed the worry Dei had for her spouse and her genuine grattitude for Iolaus's friendship with Herc for Herc's sake. We then find out through Iolaus confiding his own hardships to Dei that he's struggling with losing his wife and having to raise their child (I think just the one?) alone. Dei comforts Iolaus a bit. I really liked this whole part.

Then it's ruined by the original guy (who ran) coming to get help from Herc with the Minotaur.

Hercules turns down the request for help - shocking both Dei and Iolaus. And also, understandably, disappointing the dude who came for help.

Dei convinces Herc to go - more for Herc's sake than the people he'd be helping (such a good wife!). Iolaus invites himself along. (And is cute about it, trying to get Herc to admit how helpful he is.)

Another stupid flashback about the giant Herc fought.

Brief interlude where Zeus shows up, and then it's another fucking flashback. (I was fast forwarding so much, my husband thought I didn't like the movie.)

There's a little fireside scene with the three of them where Zeus mocks them for acting like kids when they have kids, and I again got this weird vibe of like "we don't like being parents" which I honestly find really uncomfortable. I understand that parenting is hard and some people genuinely don't enjoy it, but it's kind of a weird impression to give because of how into his family Herc was in the movie before this one. You can love your kids and still like adventure, no? Anyway it's a subtle thing, they don't come right out and say "I wish I'd never had kids", it's just a weird vibe that I think is more meant to convey the desire for adventure.

Zeus then gets weird when he finds out where the boys are going, and immediately fucks off after a half-assed attempt at dissuading them. By now the audience would know this means Zeus is hiding something about his involvement/knowledge of whatever is going on there.

There's a brief bit where a couple is sneaking away from town to boink and they end up in the Minotaur's lair and he captures them. It's kinda gross as we see them put into these weird coccoon things.

The boys get to town but are told there's no monster and everything is fine.

The Minotaur is then shown to be stoked Herc has arrived, and talks about how much he wants to kill him. Zeus then shows up where the Minotaur is and it's revealed that Zeus turned him into this monster as punishment for something, and that they haven't seen each other in 100 years. Zeus says he should have killed the Minotaur before, and tries to again, but just can't bring himself to do so. The Minotaur announces that he just keeps getting bigger and stronger and he won't be satisfied until he hurts Zeus (which Zeus doesn't think he can do). We as the audience know that the Minotaur is after Hercules, but does Zeus?

Then we cut back to the boys in the pub and get the worst flashback of all!!!

Iolaus apparently tells this random woman all about the plot of Movie 1, which he absolutely should not remember, because the plot of that movie ends with Hercules going back in time to NOT let the plot pan out as it had (in order to save Iolaus's life). The memory he relays is one from the series of events that was undone by the time rewind, so Iolaus should not have been telling this story.

It's bad enough to have a clip show, but the internal logic doesn't even make sense. Not that this series of movies has been really careful with "canon" anyway, but dang!!

Anyway then there's a really long fight scene where the whole pub gets thrashed and all the patrons decide to try to fight Hercules for... saying his name is Hercules. Herc wins (Iolaus also does well but gets knocked out at the end) and then takes Iolaus to bed. No, I'm just kidding, he rents two rooms, and deposits Iolaus into one before taking the second for himself.

While Herc is sleeping, some of the losers of the bar fight decide they're gonna kill Hercules, but the Minotaur kills them and frames Hercules for it. The entire town sees Hercules standing over their dead bodies holding a sword (that he literally picked up at the scene) and they mob after him.

Hercules wakes up Iolaus and punches a hole in the wall so they can escape. The mob catches up to them anyway, though, because they head down a dead-end alley (in a rural village?). Luckily the ground swallows some guy and also Iolaus and the mob is confused enough to pause. The brother from the beginning of the movie shows up and Hercules asks if he knows where the monster lives, so off they go.

They run into Zeus on the way. Zeus tries to warn Herc not to go down there, the thing is a terrible monster, etc. He reveals that it was once a very handsome man, but eventually tried to turn a bunch of people against the gods, etc. Zeus cursed him to be "as ugly as his heart". Zeus bemoans not being able to kill him when he had the chance. Hercules knows there's something more to the story, but Zeus won't say what.

Zeus then claims to have never asked Herc to do anything for him... which... I call shenanigans on? What about the previous movies? The Circle of Fire in particular comes to mind. Anyway. Whatever. Zeus wants Herc to kill the monster.

Herc enters the lair with a couple guys from town who the Minotaur kills and it's kinda gross.

Once Herc gets to the Minotaur we finally get a full reveal, and because they seem to have used practical effects, I actually think the visuals on it aged really well! His mouth moves when he talks and he really moves in the space in a believable way (which is not always the case in these movies/shows).

The Minotaur claims that Herc's been "given" everything his whole life, like fame and glory... which Herc denies, saying he's worked for what he has. I think you could probably unpack a lot there, but I think we've seen Herc's life hasn't been easy by any stretch, demi-god abilities or not.

Eventually the Minotaur reveals that he's Hercules's brother, that he's the son of Zeus and that Zeus couldn't kill him because he couldn't kill his own son. At this point, Hercules refuses to fight him, despite the Minotaur insisting.

But the Minotaur forces his hand, saying if Herc won't fight him, he's gonna kill Iolaus. This is enough for Hercules who then kills the Minotaur in a fashion similar to a death we saw flashbacked early on.

Zeus then shows up, and it's kinda cold? The Minotaur is still dying, and Zeus is just like "Sorry son" to Hercules and they just talk like the Minotaur isn't there? DYING? Hercules says he understands why Zeus couldn't tell him, and says he's just sorry Zeus had to lose a son.

I was really surprised there was no mourning for the loss of the possiblity of getting to know his brother or change his nature or anything... which I assume was why Herc didn't want to fight him a minute earlier? But whatever, they beat the bad guy...

Zeus then is like "I loved you, son" to his dying monster kid, but like, in a "and I don't now" tone. The Minotaur begs Zeus not to let him "die this way" (I think meaning ugly?) and then dies, and then Zeus turns him back into a (dead) man, and says "You're free now" and IDK MAN, it just didn't really work for me... Did not like.

Then Hercules saves Iolaus from the pods, and they let everyone else free. They decide to go home.

On the way home, Hercules remarks that he doesn't want to go on any adventures for a while, and Iolaus agrees...

...which makes me SO CONFUSED how the show ends up starting after this movie, so I can't wait to see!!

Final thoughts:

A bit thin on plot? I clocked that the Minotaur was Zeus's son right away, and it felt like a weird reveal.

Herc and Io were soooo keen on an adventure, but then came home wanting to not do that for a while... When do they decide to go on their Legendary Journeys? I'm starting to wonder if I'm stupid and these movies take place after the show chronologically haha.

On that note, Herc still has a wife and 3 kids, and Iolaus has at least one kid (no wife tho...)

Boo to clip shows. I hope there aren't many in the show proper. I kinda forgot they were a thing.

Hercules and Iolaus are a great dynamic! I love Michael Hurst.

I trust and like Zeus less the more I see of him. I don't think he will protect my boys and I don't like that haha.

What is going to happen to Dei????? I like her... I'm scared haha. Anya got written off without even an explanation just "she's gone" kinda thing.

Overall I'd say the relationships between Herc, Dei, and Iolaus were the standout bits. 🥰

Now I get to start the show proper!!

^Alert Two Hour Season 1 Finale: 1x09 “Brianna” and 1x10 “Max” Promo

here are my thoughts on this weeks episode, spoilers ahead so if u haven’t watched, i’d scroll😁:

- okay so i was actually excited in the beginning and even until the middle! it was good… and i was confused why i was on the edge of my seat to see what happened next, it’s not normal for this show (sorry to say) THEN what the hell happened? it just lost ALL momentum, keith’s mystery was done, and the case came back! bruh, i was actually excited! now i’m disappointed, like really disappointed. my hopes were high tho lol.

- honestly, i didn’t really pay too much attention to the case, i know that’s probs not good but ya know what i was way more interested in keith and that whole mess! but i will say, i do like how mike got a chance in the line light this episode. i’m more interested in mike than C or Kemi, sorry to say. but i think it was interesting and it did flip halfway thru the episode but i also knew that was going to happen. like they already dropped the hint that mikes father betrayed him or something and then that guy that was his second father betrayed him (haha can u tell i really only paid attention to the keith mystery?)

- finally the family had a meeting, with everyone in the same room; jason, nikki, sidney and keith! i like the conflict! finally jason is realizing that might not be his kid. anyways, the whole build up to get the bone structure/dna back was literally annoying. like how the hell did C get this job? he’s eating gummy worms and not doing his freaking job! like dude you’ve had this skeleton for so long!! he should’ve gotten it done weeks ago! C just annoyed me this episode, he really wasn’t helpful except for finding out that the skeleton wasn’t keith.

- ya it’s maybe a bit crazy that jason just completely flipped his lid and physically attacked keith but honestly if someone random was pretending to be your son, ya there would be a pretty intense reaction! but honestly i like the drama and conflict so i liked that scene. i thought scott was great in that scene (there were glimpses of his father when jason was losing it, it was crazy how quickly my brain flashed to james caan).

- i still don’t really believe that keith is actually keith. but i have a weird feeling that the show is just gonna run with it, that mystery is solved and now for the finale they’ll venture into his kidnapping. like they hyped up the whole season for it to not be keith and then they do this. it would’ve been way better and a longer storyline (if there’s a season 2?) if they have him not be keith and have jason, nikki and sidney either accept him or not. it would bring more conflict and intersting storylines! maybe they’ll still do that but idk… it can’t just be happy ending because if they’re planning for a second season, what are they gonna don’t for their B and C storylines? not gonna lie, this season felt like a miniseries or something with only 1 season.

- sidney flipped way too quickly from not believing him to accepting keith. that was way too quick! it was like whiplash! maybe she’s faking? idk. if that’s real then that’s really really bad writing. no person could/would ever just flip that quickly to believe someone that they thought was an imposter every other episode this season.

- also u really expect us to believe there was another body in the lake the same age, same build, same basically everything as 12 year old keith? like really? come on!! it was too coincidental. and if they except us to just accept it, that’s bad writing.

- i hated the ending! it was stupid. i mean ya it was a good way for all of the storylines for the episode to come to a close but besides that… it was just weird. i’ve learned just to stop questioning kemi’s techniques. that just might be me idk.

- overall, i was lowkey disappointed. scott was good this episode (esp in those emotional scenes), im def bias, and i am sad for the show to end- not because of the storylines or show but literally just for scott, i have really enjoyed seeing scott on my screen every week. i thought dania was fine, whatever, i’ll keep saying it but she just has to stop calling everyone baby. i liked ryan broussard (mike)! i thought graham verchere (keith) was really good, he gets some hate but i like him! i liked fivel stewart (sidney), she’s great, but really how can they really pass her off as a high schooler? petey gibson (C) was fine. Adeola role (kemi) was good, i like her, just not her character too much!

- for the finale next week, im not getting my hopes up. also of course nikki gets freaking kidnapped! like of course! they really had to end it with someone, most notably the leader, getting kidnapped from the missing persons unit. i just want one episode to focus on keith and that whole situation. most procedurals have at least one episode that doesn’t have a case, ya it’s only a 10 episode season, but still! just put some time aside for the plot that people actually want to know about and maybe their ratings and viewers will go up!

anyways i’ve ranted long enough. i’ve probably forgot some stuff but let me know what u guys think! i luv hearing your thoughts and different opinions! i’m definitely gonna miss scott on my screen! see u next week for the two hour finale!

rosie! i don't know if you are up to date with it, but your thoughts on the latest season of for all mankind? i actually really hate where they've gone with it and feel like it's a totally different show now, but curious to see what others think!

ok turns out i have a lot of thoughts

i really loved the first half of this season, but god there have been soooo many narrative choices i’ve hated in the second half. 

the treatment of kelly and her pregnancy has been so gross. and it’s so narratively stupid and unbelievable on so many levels! you can’t tell me she (and nasa under margo fucking madison) hadn’t made sure there were precautions so this couldn’t happen. and it’s just gross that the russians knew she was pregnant before she did. and i hate that we don’t know how she felt or feels about the pregnancy. and why is no one talking about how risky it is for her and the baby! they took away her agency and continue to use her only as a plot device and i hate it! it’s lazy and bad! and the way the characters/world within the show are treating it as some cutesy novelty thing instead of a serious dangerous unprecedented health risk? bad

karen has really grown on me over the seasons, and i actually love this milfy lil business savvy girlboss and her ambiguously-aged grey hair and single wrinkle, but a lot of what has played out in the last two or three episodes with her and her work and everything with dev has just felt clumsy. not bad, but just badly thought out. kinda infantile. idk i can’t pinpoint it. 

i don’t like that we didn’t see any of the immediate fallout of the shit that went down on mars. that felt weird. something that catastrophic, that the whole season had basically been building up to and all we got was a time jump and a throwaway line that basically told us danny got off scot free?? wild

perplexed about the jimmy thing. what is his deal! can’t figure out whether i just don’t know where they’re going with this or the writers don’t either. the trajectory has been weird and felt a little all over the place.

ellen! i like her, don’t get me wrong, but she is very much a slimy republican and i can only sympathise with her so much. however, i really loved her lil speech and coming out moment. kinda think it’s bizarre that the public reaction seemed to be overwhelmingly positive, but maybe the writers just wanted to enjoy the positive vibes for a moment. i’ll take it, but like… considering the homophobia of not only the republican party but the wider society at that time? the whole thing felt a little too nicey nicey. but i’m sure there’s a lot more nastiness to come. anyway hate to say it but i’m not really invested in her and pam. oh also the fact ellen and larry’s son has appeared like twice and doesn’t even have a name is so funny to me like ok kiddo you literally just exist for future seasons’ sake huh

i like how the whole aleida/margo thing has played out for the most part. their relationship is one of the most interesting things in this show imo and seeing it totally tear aleida apart has been so stressful!!!!!!

the reveal at the end of 3x09 was very… American… idk but i’m intrigued to see where they go from here and what happens in the finale!! if anything happens to margo madison or sergei nikulov i will actually kill someone though

i’m absolutely dreading the 2000s vibes of the next season though. worst era for fashion and music and aesthetics! 

unfortunately i don’t care much for any of the second generation characters. the main characters who’ve been around since the beginning are great (except ed. he’s getting more boring by the minute) but i’m concerned about where the show can go from here character wise because none of the kids are interesting enough to carry it

this show stresses me out so much lmao

also forgot to say yes i actually kinda agree that it’s starting to feel like a different show. it’s always toed the line between realism and soapy pretty well but these last four or five episodes to me have felt a little too reliant on the shock factor, and veering too far from the Brutal Reality vibes and made it more Shocking Drama idk idk i just really feel like it’s gone downhill so fast lmao

HIIIIII I've missed you SOOOOO much. I hope your exams went well, I'm sure you aced them! That seems so crazy you have midterms and you're already thinking about finals! I feel like the semester just started! I knew you were busy all week but by Friday I literally was like "Ughhh where is she!?" My break was good! Very boring, nothing to really chat about. I finished a book last week and I'm about half way through this one--it's very good. I actually think YOU would like the book I finished because I did not hahahahahahahaha don't get me wrong it was VERY well written and I did like it, but it was so stressful and not what I usually read. The Lost Girls of Willowbrook. Very creepy in my opinion.

Aw! I'm so glad you voted for them! I have another round of voting coming this week and I feel like it will be VERY split five different ways hahahaha I'm a beach girl as well! I feel like it's one of the only things I have a good grasp on writing about because it was so entrenched in my childhood. one of the weird things about this chapter is that hanma's now in a great mood, he's happy, he's chill, but he's still so dangerous. you really nailed it when you said reader is babysitting her favorite psychopath. he can be happy and thinking about how he almost killed the instructor - he probably wouldn't have killed reader - and he can cheerfully recount murder. reader's past being too scared though, no matter how chilling, because she saw him gouge that guy's eyeball out once. they are past it lol

i am really really flattered by your comment about this reader and yasuko in dgm!! yes, they are not bad bitches because what kind of power / confidence / authority would even mean anything in the context of these dangerous murderers? and i like the contrast between those two characters. yasuko is def more sure of her desires, but less strongwilled, while this reader actually really struggles with recognizing or pursuing what she wants but is a concrete wall when it comes to what she DOESN'T want and i respect it. anyway ty that's really nice

I had a dream I was in some weird antique house. it had a lot of rooms. might have been some kind of quirky hotel? it was shaped like lowercase N & the center area was for w courtyard full of rocksz weedx and a picnic table or two.

something about a science project with black cloth boxes done in groups of 2-4 by a river.

anyway that one guy that no longer works for polygon was there. with the mustache. and he was apparently doing tours? or something? idk like 1 on 1 hangout sessions where he'd answer any question he could and also talk about the history of the House. I ended up replacing the person he was just with halfway through their session & it was fine I guess? he was friendly enough but it definitely felt fake. I was running my mouth in my usual fashion & said something I thought had weird implications, &;5+3! immediately tried to clarify. IT was like that one bit of "I based Paul Allen off Tom cruise on that one show! very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes" that's exactly what bdg was like in this dream..anyway clarification seemed to make things worse so I got embarrassed & ditched.him

a bunch of people from college were there. I texted Josh for some godforsaken reason even though the last time I even texted him was over a year ago & he was sleeping in the hotel in like old timey striped pajamas& he came out wearing his old dorky glasses rubbing his eyes. we chatted about the house for a bit & then he went into a zone I wasn't authorized to enter (I think he was srelsted to the house owner) so I went outside instead. I saw something that I thought my old bitch roommate would have liked so I sent it to her. I wish the me of dreams would stop bringing these people up. anyway in the dream I was ok with talking to her but she always tried to bring up my ex in every convo by posting screenshots of his reaction to what I shared, which was annoying.

anyway then I went outside & climbed on the rocks. a bunch of kids started showing up from a trail that led off into the woods & started copyijg me & I realized I was at a summer camp again!! I got excited but then I had to get all these 6 year olds off the rocks bc it wasn't safe for them. & it was all kids that I remembered, somehow still 6 years old eve though I haven't worked at a summer camp in 6 years or so. they were all excited to see me & crowded around me! except for this one older kid who kept talking about how next time he'd definitely kill his dad for sure. I asked what school he went to since he seemed familiar - one of my friends is a middle school math teacher & I thought he might know this kid.

after the rocks we went to burger King & I was about to find out what school he went to & then I woke up
