RIPTIDE!!!!! - really long animated series

not an anime though, no matter how much grizzly wants it, it would be an animation style where the characters could have very clearly different nose, face and body shapes, really pushing my riptide nose agenda here sorry, each episode would be like 20-40 minutes long and instead of coming out in seasons there would be massive gaps in between episodes, from 2-6 months long, to leave time for writers and animators to get stuff done (massive team of animators btw, i feel like it would be pretty successful)

PRIME DEFENDERS!! - comics

literally nothing else they could be, just really well made, well performing comics (i’ve already talked about this before you can stalk my talk tag if you really want to find it lmao), the comic company making them would be keeping well away from movies n shit btw

BLOOD IN THE BAYOU!!! - i hate to say it, i really do…

bitb would be a really long really good 80s horror book with strong homoerotic undertones, a satisfied fanbase and lots of active members in the community making fan comics, films, writing, theories and art ect… until well after the book came out……….. and then it would be made into the most egregious and awful live action movie you have ever seen, the most awful casting (like chris pratt as officer dudes….. throws up) and even worse sfx, oh yeah and the characters would be ruined and the story would become so butchered it wouldn’t make sense, they would do some shit like cut out becky so kian just kisses some random lady (removing both a really good and well written character and a layer of kian’s character that i think is super important) and make rolan really be an evil bug spy the whole time so rand has to kill him to save the town also add in a whole new sub plot that never existed like the rand family is secretly a long line of bug alien hunters or something fucking stupid like that and the entire fanbase would murder whoever thought re-writing the story was a good idea (ahaha can you tell ive been through something like this before ahahaha, character morals and motives being removed and whatnot ahahahhahahaha.)

it would be well made though, unlike the bitb movie it would be its own original thing, have great makeup and effects also be well casted and well shot, well written, ect ect, it would bloody and gory and not suitable for people who can’t handle showing bones and organs all over everywhere, lots of shitty rip off merch would be made though and the fandom would be 99% gay little freaks (normal suckening enjoyers) and 1% homophobic straight white men who get mad whenever they see soda and emizel having gay sex on screen or whatever fag shit that biting thing was

Yeah in my opinion Phil would still be up for some dapg and podcast and regular joint content and whatnot because he knows that 1) their audience (at least what’s left of it) loves it, 2) HE loves it, 3) Dan loves it. The problem is the usual: Dan wants to do something big and important so he can be taken seriously or whatever, but let’s be real — his attempts so far have led to mixed responses. The book? Wasn’t that great, we can say it now. DD? Still trying to figure out what it was for other than promo for the tour (and the content itself wasn’t good and so 2016). I still can’t believe he decided to ditch the gaming channel and joint content for *gestures vaguely* that. I wish him well and I’ll always root for him, but he really needs someone to give him career advice

RIGHT!!!!! all of what you said! not only career advice but also a reality check, and i mean it in a very nice way. i guess we can agree that he grew out of youtube and doesn't want to do it anymore (partially because of what happened with youtube originals. fuck them). and that's okay. and wanting something bigger, more serious, conceptual, and right for him is also okay. i support that. but every piece of, let's say, work he was trying to do outside youtube turned out to be tied to youtube anyway. and not because he wasn't trying hard enough (well, debatable), but because most of his experience that he is willing to talk about is either already mentioned on the platform or happened because of his youtube career. and also it's the best place to promote whatever he is doing, so he can't escape it unless he hires a marketing team and invests thousands of dollars in a real promo campaign. PHYSICAL as well (non-existent billboards and posters for wad shows will haunt me to death).

yeah, i also can't believe he is too fucking stubborn to return to what clearly works for us and him with Phil. because it can be a side thing, and he can focus on his stand-up bullshit at the same time. on the other hand, i watched Lilly's interview with Anthony about how her late night show was taking ALL of her time and she couldn't continue to make youtube content. and i thought, maybe Dan is in the same situation. his new projects take everything? but there's a difference! he is not shooting 2-3 episodes per day. and for wad he delegated lots of work to other people. some of them did a shitty job, but that's a different topic. that's why i would pay my own money for dnp to talk about the work processes in detail. that could explain where all these weeks and months go. dd was shot within a few months, partly during the tour. so even that didn't take that much time. and i know there are scripts, and logistics, and rehearsals, and pitches to networks or whatever, and he is probably doing a lot of manager's work himself sometimes. but damn, math is not mathing.

Hey!! yes I absolutely have been watching she hulk. I was a few episodes behind before today, so I had to watch three episodes in one sitting before getting around to this ask. thanks dear mutual and friend for sending this fyi I love Talking About Stuff

anyway I do just wanna gush about she hulk first because except for wandavision and ms marvel not one disney plus marvel show has felt like a TV show the way this one has. so many of these shows just feel like badly paced extremely long movies, and where episodes start and end often felt extremely counter intuitive. but this show just really knows what it's doing!! every episode does feel too short to me - I wish they were a full half hour long at the very least, they often feel rushed - but that's just a personal preference; the episodes themselves are still extremely well done, tackle an A plot and a B plot every time, a generally the whole show feels cohesive. so yeah I love she hulk it's so much fun. it's not a wacky comedy by any means but I've certainly chuckled and it's just... extremely enjoyable.

as for my dear beloved matt murdock!!! I don't think I have much to say that hasn't already been said, but yes, I absolutely loved this appearance. we got to see a very lighthearted version of matt that absolutely exists in the comics but was only shown in glimpses in the netflix show. he's funny and cheeky and a good lawyer and a fucking slut, oh my god, and this show absolutely gets that side of him. I also feel like the show does hint that matt's been operating as dd for a while - at least that's the impression I got from him saying "I'm Daredevil" as if Jen is supposed to know who that is. I love that they faced in court first, feeling a connection as Jen and Matt and then also as She Hulk and DD. it just felt very organic and I loved the whole thing from beginning to end. a+ matt content and a really good episode in general

also noteworthy that I fucking LOVE the yellow suit I think it's so fun and absolutely looks great and I know that's a minority opinion but fuck y'all I love it

Wait, so you get denied a raise because of your credit score...and they tell you to sort it out- before the raise that will raise your credit score? Wait-

It's so easy to forget that there were successful comic book shows and movies outside of what we see today. You know how many we get a year now? 7 mainline live action in universe Marvel and DC movies plus 2 live action shows. These are straight from the source so why is it that Netflix, the company that redid Avatar and is famous for their goofy live action anime adaptations did something more quality years ago versus what we get today with super inflated budgets? Whether you like the show or not, whether you rank this lower than the other seasons, doesn't matter, the production quality is objective.

Bullseye in this season is top notch. I seriously didn't expect that or some of what the dialogue considers, I pondered some of that for days, the writing really shines. Everyone talks about Karen and Foggy reappearing for the reboot but Karen's still whiny. They even give her a whole episode on number 10 out of 13 and it's really something we should've gotten- um- not at the last moment. It doesn't even change context. Seeing it titled 'Karen', made me think there was this cool long hunt for her and she'd have to use her wits and ideals that she's built to fight back until Daredevil stops Bullseye's attack. Yeah, no, it's pretty straightforward.

It's strange how they really made Kingpin staring at a white wall a plot point and it's actually not bad, like how do you make that a successful character trait?

Sometimes it reverts to a stage play though, more often than not it's the most pivotal moments too. There are some great fights, don't get me wrong, it goes back to a lot of the corridor fighting and innovates really nicely but then there's the Bullseye fight in episode 10, it just didn't hit the right notes for me and neither did the last episode's fight. It's not even just the fights either, it's the dialogue. I expected Vanessa to die then Wilson concedes so DD will kill him, but DD doesn't give him what he wants and refuses after all this time. I ended up with half of that. But it's all done so rushed like there's no reason behind it. And Matt's speech is just over the top cheesy "You will go back to prison and live the rest of your miserable life in a cage knowing you'll never have Vanessa." Blah blah blah, I beat you. Stupid, like a pissing competition. I complained about Ultimate Spider-Man and it still gives me horrors thinking about it but there was one thing that followed in line with what I want and that's actually Daredevil.

There was a scene where he knows he can't beat Fisk at his own game so he sneaks and finds Vanessa- here, flocked right to it. Issue 110

She's comatose in that story and now he shows that he has all the cards, he's in control, he could break both his and Kingpin's life at once. It's Spider-Man that talks him down and we don't need that here but he stands for fear but how do you scare the person that isn't scared of anything? You scare those closest to him. "It was just business. Don't make it personal." Kingpin leaves the country but he ends up calling a hit on Spider-Man and DD anyway. That is until he gets what's coming to him, sidelined and distracted so that the cops come and get him for a murder he barely even remembered.

It'd be interesting if they made the season a murder mystery where it turns out it was Fisk even though he's in prison and then it starts the FBI thing then him barrelling through cops as they try to bring him down at the end. In fact, when I first heard of this season and saw Bullseye with the outfit, I thought that maybe he was A. a wannabe. or B. Someone framing him. DD going back to his old costume so not to be confused (or the other way around) and they're trying to uncover his identity all the way through until they figure it out in the end and DD reclaims his costume and beats him. That didn't happen and I love his character study but I feel that they kinda pissed on him in that final episode too. They kinda just chalked him up to another crazy guy by that point.

I didn't mind them hoping for another season and teasing for it but there are some things left undone, (what's that stain on my rug?) I won't really complain about them but I can say that the beginning where we get caught up on stuff that happened off-screen goes nowhere. Should Elektra have appeared, it'd undermine her death but if she was apart of his visions like Fisk and his dad were then it'd make more sense like "oh, he hallucinated her." I realized that Elektra's story more fit Blade's type of playground than what ended up being S2 so it does seem a bit weaker.

All in all, I see why the series is so heavily regarded and I probably agree with a lot of the consensus in terms of ranking.

I know this episode technically isn't an actual episode, but, Ten Minutes to Doom?

Ten Minutes to Doom :DD

First off, I absolutely DO consider the unfinished eps to be "actual episodes"! Just because the crew didn't have time to finish them doesn't mean they aren't canon. Same goes for the episode ideas that don't have scripts!

Anyway! Ten Minutes (I almost never bother to add 'to doom' or 'of doom' for any of the episode titles) is a GREAT episode that would've been at least Bolognius Maximus level had it been finished! (To be clear I consider Bolognius Maximus a pretty dang good episode, but not Backseat Drivers level.)

It's got a LOT of PAK lore (it kinda has to based on its premise haha)! Aaron Alexovich made a piece of concept art showing just how much Zim deteriorates in those ten minutes:

look at him he's so GROSS. HIS HEAD IS SHRINKING, LOOK, HIS WIG IS SLIDING OFF. it's just..EUGH.

anyway what was I saying? oh yes! PAK lore! The timer being exactly ten minutes is fascinating.

I've heard at least one theory that irkens should be able to survive without their PAK (for over 10min), but they were specifically engineered to not be able to. Because the PAK (supposedly) controls their emotions, makes them loyal to the empire, etc. If an irken took off their PAK, they've basically gone rogue and the empire wouldn't be able to control them at all. So, naturally, the empire made it so irkens COULDN'T SURVIVE without their PAK. That's why it's exactly ten minutes - because it was engineered that way.

I'm here to tell you that is complete and utter bullshit! One simple reason: minutes are an Earthian unit of time. There is NO reason for irkens to measure in them. In fact, there's some canon evidence that "timethings" are the wider-used unit, or at least the unit in Moo-Ping 10 (comic issue 35):

So I hc that either the ten minutes thing is just a weird coincidence (there've been weirder), or it's actually something like 10.0004 minutes.

"But Pants, Zim's lifeclock was showing in minutes!" yeah and I bet you also think all alien species always converse in perfect English in IZ. It's being converted for the benefit of us, the viewers!

Moving on from that now! It'd probably have been REALLY annoying for the storyboard artists to plan this one, since Zim's lifeclock is in real time, so they couldn't do any time skips (even a couple seconds long).

What else? Oh, right! We get the first appearance of Foodio here :D This also means that Membrane, rather predictably, solved world hunger between now and Florpus.

Dib's speech patterns with the PAK on him are interesting! Instead of simply having Richard do Dib, they had Andy try to mimic Richard, which is a much better idea really - Dib's still got the same vocal chords. It kinda sounds like Zim's robot Dib in Future Dib, haha. It's also how I imagine Zib sounds, or pretty close to it!

SCREAMY IS DECENTLY FUNNY AND SERVES TO FURTHER DRIVE HOME THE POINT THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF SCREAMING CHARACTERS, AND A LOT OF STUPID CHARACTERS, IN IZ!!!

Heya!! It’s me again!! Ok so uh- I made a thing- ok to explain I watched way too many lore videos, listened to “silly sad duck” way too many times, and overall was listening to too much edgy music overall, and wanted to draw dhmis, so what did I do? I uh… made a depressing and scary drawing of Duck hiding from Roy- ok so I have added a description below the drawing as to what is really happening in this scene but I just wanna warn y’all again that this drawing and the description behind it is disturbing (by disturbing I mean it’ll make you hate my interpretation of Roy and make you want to hug Duck- seriously Roy is the absolute worst in this scene and it just makes me so angry at this guy-) SO with that being said please if you don’t wanna see this or overall if you’re in a great mood and don’t wanna see any angsty things that may ruin it I suggest you scroll elsewhere, hey! There’s some cool posts on tumblr so check those out instead if you don’t wanna see this alright? Now, with all that out of the way i just wanna say I hope you like this!

(note i am copying this description from my post on amino because there is no way on earth I’m typing all this over again-) Ok so I’ll give y’all a bit of background knowledge on this scene before we continue on! SO basically to explain this scene takes place not long after Duck ran off during episode 5. So this is my interpretation as to what happened afterwards, btw Roy is an absolutely horrible guy in my au and is super not cool towards Duck so yeah uh- there’s that- Anyways so Duck was running off throughout the fake household, they were panicked but they had one goal in mind other than escaping, Duck was searching for a phone to call whoever-was-speaking-on-the-phone back (COUGH COUGH Red COUGH-) and they had found a phone! however before they could properly place a call for them they realized someone was following them.. they turned around only to see Roy with a bat in hand.. they immediately ran off.. knowing that in no way did Roy mean peace… they went through room after room, obstacle after obstacle, they even got a little cut in the process.. however eventually their running failed as they were hit in the leg by Roy’s bat (this left a small bruise, it’s hard to see but in the drawing you can kinda see it a bit too-), Duck fell over but, before any further harm could be done, they tripped Roy, causing him to fall which bought time for Duck. They scurried off, paying no mind to the pain. Now the drawing takes place when Duck makes it to the room in dhmis 2, they found a phone and hid behind a wall. Their voice was shaky and they knew Roy was going to find them but.. they left a message. Now after finishing their message Duck, well, lets just say they got caught and got knocked out by the bat. Roy couldn’t simply just leave Duck there so Roy took them to the hospital!!

So this episode was about teachers committing to and caring about their students, and district people too, and I love that :'). Sometimes all you need is a district person who will keep putting in the effort like that, and I love when it happens for people <33

Crash Palace Interview: Catching Up with Dana DeLorenzo.

This interview briefly brushes over Ash vs Evil Dead and Dana’s latest projects.

Even though it has been over two years since Ash vs Evil Dead has been on the air, fans still clamor for their favorite badass, Deadite slaying heroine, Kelly Maxwell. Dana DeLorenzo, the actress behind her is equally adored and cherished by admirers of the Sam Raimi legendary horror franchise.  

So, as always, I was thrilled to speak with her about life after Ash, her latest movie, the heartwarming holiday comedy, Friendsgiving and what she has on the horizon. Welcome to the Crash Palace Interview with Dana DeLorenzo…  

The Denouement of Ash vs Evil Dead Crash Palace: Thanks for speaking with me, Dana. It’s always a pleasure. Let’s talk about life after Ash vs Evil Dead. As you know, Lee Cronin is helming the latest installment in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise. Fans were hoping that the Ghostbeaters would be a part of that venture. While we know it is going in a different direction, do you think Kelly Maxwell could show up some time in the future?  

Dana DeLorenzo: One can dream, right? Let me take this moment, right off the bat to say something I say often because I mean it, and I can’t say it enough. People who know me know this is not fan service. I say it when I’m not doing interviews; I say it to my closest friends and my family on the regular.

I am so grateful to the fans of Ash vs Evil Dead and the Evil Dead franchise all over the world. They have truly been my Jiminy Crickets throughout this insane, bizarre year that is 2020. They have gotten me through so many of the toughest days, just by keeping the bloody love alive. With every year that passes, even though we haven’t filmed a season of the show for three years, it feels like it’s fresh because of the fans .

So, to all you Ghostbeaters out there: I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope I get to meet all of you someday. But I can’t convey enough how your passion and love of the show has gotten me through this 2020 roller coaster; thank you for keeping Kelly’s ass-kicking spirit alive! On that note, I have really missed the show, I’ve missed playing Kelly. I posted some things recently about Ash vs Evil Dead, photos I hadn’t looked at in a while. I miss it a lot. I like to keep hope alive that someday, somewhere, the Ghostbeaters will be reunited. Even just for a quick Ghostbeaters fist bump.

Is Kelly Maxwell going to show up in this film? No. I won’t say never, but from what I understand, this is an alternate universe for Evil Dead Rise, separate from Fede Alvarez’s movie with Jane Levy and it’s separate from Ash vs Evil Dead. It’s a new adventure in the Evil Dead universe. And I can’t wait to see the new blood and guts journey Lee Cronin takes us on. I would like to think in the Ghostbeaters’ universe, we’re still kicking it and we’re still fighting evil. But I am loving that the fans are clamoring for it! They can keep pestering Rob, Sam and Bruce the way they have for twenty-five years before Ash vs Evil Dead came to be — their persistence is what got me that dream job.

So, if they want to continue to pester to bring us all back, I won’t stop them! Because we know the fans have the power to persuade. It might take another twenty-five years. But I am always down to play with those guys and our great crew.  

CP: Do you keep in touch with anyone from the show?

DD: Yeah, I try and keep up with what everyone is doing and shoot them a message to tell them I miss them like the sap that I am. I just miss seeing their faces every day, you know?  I miss Lucy’s face pretty hard, and not just because she’s ‘Lucy Flawless’! She’s got new shows left and right, she never stops! Ray and I randomly text Pablo and Kelly’s catchphrases to each other. “How are you holding up? / What is happening?!” We said that pretty much every episode so it still makes me laugh. Arielle and I chat often even though she lives in Australia, she’s like my little sister! Bruce often responds “ in character” with the latest Snapchat filter. He loves those — just check his Twitter feed — and it’s all my fault. I showed him how to make them while filming Season 3. He could probably do a show solely with Snapchat characters — I’d watch.  

Fall from Perpetual Grace

CP: Let’s shift gears for a moment and talk about another series that you appeared on. You had a great run on EPIX with Perpetual Grace, LTD working with the talented Jimmi Simpson, Luis Guzman and of course, Jacki Weaver and Sir Ben Kingsley. There was some talk about a possible movie to tie up all the storylines after the show ended. Do you know if that is in the works?

DD: I have no idea, but I really hope that happens. Steven Conrad is a genius and so was that cast. If you haven’t seen or become a part of the cult following of Patriot on Amazon or Perpetual Grace, you should. But the people he casts and the stories he writes and the beauty of the cinematography, all  create a piece of art that is in its own category. He has such a strong point of view, aesthetic and vision, you always know when you’re watching a Steven Conrad show.

I’ve been very lucky to be part of two shows where both casts were like extended family. Like Luis Guzman. We  talked recently, I adore him. Side bar: I feel like in a crazy, crossover world, Luis could be Pablo’s other uncle because of his giant heart and comedic delivery. Anyway, we’re both working on my friend Joe Ahern’s indie comedy, The Disappearance of Toby Blackwood, which he co-wrote with Doug Mellard. And I can’t wait for people to see Luis slay the screen, yet again. The filming process is pretty innovative during COVID, where everyone but the two main characters filmed their parts at home using an app. These guys were doing it before anyone else, so kudos to them.  

Friendsgiving: The Gift that Keeps on Giving

CP: I had the pleasure of watching Friendsgiving the other night and it was an enjoyable holiday film. You had some hilarious bits as Kat Dennings’ wise cracking sister, Barbara. What drew you to the project?

DD: Thank you for watching the film and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s the kind of original comedy we all need right now.

I knew I was auditioning for Kat Dennings’ (Abby)  sister Barbara, whose part of Abby’s Jersey-Italian family. Within the first two lines of that family exchange, I was cackling. I’m drawn to anything that grabs my attention on the page and holds it for the entire sitting of reading the script. Those lines of dialogue, the way the family members are unapologetically who they are, and the fact they mean well but are constantly giving you their two cents when you don’t want it or ask for it, hooked me. And that kind of art-imitating-life comedy held up for the rest of the script for me. Nicol Paone hit it out of the park, both on the page and behind the lens. And I’m pretty sure it’s loosely based on a Thanksgiving that Nicol and Malin Ackerman shared.

The subject matter was also relatable. I’ve celebrated Thanksgiving with my family as well as a couple of Friendsgivings. And the bottom line is, the holiday is just dysfunctional, always. It might be a lot more fun with your friends but it’s still going to be dysfunctional.

That concept makes me laugh. It’s not funny when you’re the one going through the stress and drama of Thanksgiving. However, it’s very funny watching someone else go through it. It’s cathartic. That’s why I loved it.  

CP: With so many talented actors in the cast, do you have any behind the scenes anecdotes?

DD: There was a lot of laughing in between takes. It’s always a good sign when the crew laughs. Abby’s (Kat Dennings ) Jersey-Italian family was cast perfectly, and the actors were so damn funny! Rose Abdoo plays our mom, Nadya Ginsburg as Aunt Anna and Johnny Williams plays Uncle Sal. Like I said, it was already funny on the page, and Nicol being a New Jersey Italian herself really captured the essence of those family conversations. The actors brought Nicol’s words to life, and on a few takes she let us riff.  In one scene the Aunt Anna character was telling the scripted story of a sexual gesture; I remember laughing so hard at her adlibbing additional euphemisms for that particular act by referencing Italian food.

One of my favorite things Nicol did was add some of the funniest ad-libs and bloopers in the end credits. I love seeing those! Now everyone who sees the film will get to see those behind the scenes moments.  

The Show Must Go On

CP: When we were coordinating this interview, you told me that you were going into the studio to do voiceover work. Can you give us a hint about this upcoming effort?

DD: The show features a cast of familiar faces that might have worked together recently. I just realized what everyone is probably going to think when they read this.  

CP: Sorry everyone, it isn’t Ash vs Evil Dead. However, you have more work on the way. According to IMDb, you have completed a short film called PCH. What else can your fans look forward to?

DD: The Disappearance of Toby Blackwood which I mentioned before but we’re still filming that. I am so excited about this voiceover project because it’s completely original in every way, it really hasn’t been done before. And of course, Friendsgiving is out now in select theatres and VOD. It’s the perfect film to watch this Thanksgiving when we can’t celebrate as we usually do. You can laugh at the characters’ holiday drama and maybe even be grateful to take this year off.  

CP: Will you be appearing at any virtual conventions like Bruce and Ted are doing for Wizard World events?

DD: There are a couple in the works. But in the meantime, I’ve teamed up with this new platform called, Real Talk Live, which is both an app and on the web. It’s like a virtual convention where you can live video chat one on one, basically like a Zoom call. You can schedule the video call in advance or whenever catch me whenever I’m live. I think it’s a great solution, and personally I’m really looking forward to connecting with Evil Dead fans this way until live events pick back up. And it’s accessible worldwide so this will be great to finally see the amazing fans I hear from overseas. I miss interacting with them in the flesh, hearing their stories and seeing their badass cosplays! And do I miss pose-punching them in our epic photos. So I end with this, because I can’t say this enough: “Thank you, Ghostbeaters! I love you more than Ash Williams loves his Delta!”

Dec. 26

I woke up after 11AM, today. And one of the first things I got done today was some exercise.

First, yesterday’s DD. 2′ meditation with EC. Kinda had no good reason to miss doing this yesterday. Was also a bit fidgety, since it’s been awhile since I last meditated. One of these days, I’m going to make that a habit.

Second, today’s DD. 3′ high knees with EC. I counted 406 reps by the time was up. Happy I managed to stay above 2/sec. Definitely got harder to lift the knees as high by the last half or so.

(After grabbing some iced coffee and updating some logs...)

Last, Day 25 of the FhP. Level 3, no rest. After the first 3, I was wondering about taking more time to rest. Arms started feeling a bit noodle-y, but I just kept the train rolling. A very fun workout - loved all the combos and the moments I could smoothly execute them and the transitions. (Still opting for 50/50 approach rather than bounce-switching.)

Most of my day was spent on the usual and doing some writing research of a medical nature (zombies are weird and great).

I was back on my BS, staying up well into the red zone again.

Dec. 27

I woke up around noon.

After a bit of browsing and more note-taking, I did today’s exercise early.

First, today’s DD. 40 squat + step backs with EC. Got a bit winded and fatigued here, but I could manage well enough.

Last, Day 26 of the FhP. Level 3, 1′ rest. Oi, I feel like I badly strained my neck when I playing so much Pokemon on Christmas. Made stuff like the plank rotations particularly uncomfortable/awkward. Push-up form was a bit sloppy too - but yeah, neck wasn’t really having it. :/

Spent some time chatting and watching some movies with a friend. We watched the movie version of “Into the Woods“ (now I have a bit more context for SaSi referencing it) and “Life of Brian“.

I went to bed a bit later than yesterday.

Dec. 28

I woke up barely before 1PM.

After a bit of the usual, I did my exercise.

First, today’s DD. 50 prone reverse flies with EC. This felt pretty nice to help limber up my neck some more. Mostly a mild annoyance to get into a position on floor with enough clearance.

Last, Day 27 of the FhP. Level 3, no rest. This was altogether very doable without rest. I still love sit-up punches a lot. I rather enjoy how my abs have been performing for this exercise/load! =w=

Spent pretty much the rest of my night on the usual stuff.

I went to bed obscenely late again. I had a pretty bad episode fussing with my nails again...

Dec. 29

I woke up after noon, I think

First, today’s DD. 40 bridge taps with EC. Still a fun exercise, all told.

Last, Day 28 of the FhP. Level 3, no rest. Decided to watch LNTAO again as background noise (Roman shouting “AN ARM!” will always make me laugh). Fun sequence to get through, too.

I then set out to making today’s Hello Fresh Meal. Chicken over garlic Parmesan spaghetti. This was pretty good, but still hard for Dad to deal with.

After some of the usual and some dishes, I got back to writing some more for the iZ!AU.

Went to bed event later than yesterday.

Dec. 30

I woke up after 1PM.

Watched some YouTube before doing today’s exercise.

First, today’s DD. 1′ toe tap hops with EC. I counted 118 reps by the end of it - very close to 2/sec. That pace was pretty intense though, did start to feel a bit of fatigue near the end.

Last, Day 29 of the FhP. Level 3, 1′ rest. I admit my push-ups got pretty sloppy as I went along. But It was still fairly intense.

Spent much of the night chatting and doing a bit more writing on that iZ!Prinxiety date intermission (mostly finishing the rough draft).

I went to bed a few hours earlier than yesterday, still in the red zone.

Dec. 31

I woke up after 11AM.

After a bit of the usual, I did today’s exercise.

First, today’s DD. 5′ punches with EC. I swapped stances at 2′30″ and counted a total of 632 punches thrown by the end of it. Happy I stayed over 2/sec pace. A fun way to end this shit year too. :P

Last, Day 30 of the Fireheart Program. Level 3, 1′ rest. That was a lot of sit-ups and definitely took some digging in. But a good test for the final day of the program! I enjoyed it!

I did some dishes and made tonight’s Hello Fresh Meal. Cheesy quinoa-stuffed peppers. Everyone enjoyed this one.

Then got back to updating some logs. And chatting about things.

I spent some time topping up fandom blog queue and then stayed up till like 11AM or so writing up a masterpost for my fandom blog to pin. Was that a great idea? Probably not, but I did it anyways.

Jan. 1

I woke up proper around 3PM.

First, today’s DD. 2′ jumping Ts with EC. I had one false start, realizing I set my timer wrong (for 1′). I wondered why that was a bit too easy. Second go was set properly and I counted 152 reps by the end of it. It was pretty enjoyable.

Last, I decided to chase the bliss from that with a few rounds of half jacks. Tucked out my calves there, but I had fun.

Spent much of my day chatting and thinking more about the physiology of zombies in that iZ!AU. :,D

I got to bed far earlier than yesterday, because tired. But still in my red zone.

Summary of Experience:

I finished the Fireheart Program on Dec. 31. I rather enjoyed this program, but then again I’ve always enjoyed combat exercises. I noted that pretty much the entire way through - I didn’t go for the Combat HIIT approach (alternately bounce-switching sides.) Did try to clean up my push-up form for most of it and I’m rather happy about meeting the demands of all those sit-up punches!

I did manage to hit Level 3 for all 30 days, and as for resting times between sets:

GX Month Day 10

(September 9): Free Day/Introductions

Ready for Story time (in fear of sounding like a Youtuber)? Ok here is how I got into GX and my 3 favorite characters in the series...

So I was one of the many that grew up with Duel Monsters. I was like 8-9 y/o when my friends and I got into the hype of it, some friends of mine even played the card game with hand drawn cards because it was hard to come across the real thing in Latin America at the time. 

But I was never able to finish it and I dropped it. Until I was in college (seriously how many got back into their childhood likes in college), where I finished it in like a month and a half and left a hole in me after I finished. So the next logical step was to watch GX to keep myself going in the YGO train...

And I just couldn’t. 

It was just too different and I loved DM way too much. And the first few episodes of GX gave me a huge whiplash theme wise (fun fact: that’s happening to me rn and that’s why I am rewatching S3 of GX instead of watching 5Ds, I watched like 5 episodes and I’m still too attached to GX to enjoy it). 

Like how did we go from this

to this

The fact that we get bombed by tons of fillers (including Judai dueling a freaking monkey) so early in season 1 was not helping. So after like 20 episodes or so I dropped it, not really convinced. That was like 3 years ago.

Fast forward to quarantine. I was going through my list of pending anime to watch and I came across Yu Gi Oh GX, and I decided to give it another go now that DM wasn’t so fresh on my emotions. And I had also read several comments saying that you had to get through season 1 and 2 because season 3 and 4 were spectacular and totally worth the watch. 

And so I started watching it and while I got into it thinking “okay I just want to get to season 3″ I found myself truly enjoying season 1 (at least after the never ending completely irrelevant fillers). People found Judai annoying and I have to say from what little I’ve heard of the dub, yeah he is annoying there. But in the sub I ended up really digging Judai’s carefree personality and how he just honestly loves dueling. 

My only point of comparison so far is DM and Judai’s attitude to dueling is such a contrast to Atem’s much more serious one (though both are great and fit their characters and storylines well). In fact, after seeing Judai in season 4 I seriously missed the carefree Judai of season 1 and 2, like it caused me pain to see how badly season 3 had broken this poor boy and made him harden beyond recognition. Thank God for BBT because we see that he is back to being a happy boy.

Then I got into season 2 and we got introduced to this magnificent being

Edo Phoenix started off as the character that made me roll my eyes because of how damn full of himself he was, smugly beating the living daylights out of Judai and Ryo (so bad both of them experience a full on trauma induced breakdown, seriously). But he just grew on me as he started drifting away from Saio a bit and we learn of his tragic backstory with his dad and DD (and when he nonchalantly cut off Judai’s fishing line after he caught his steak I swear to God I laughed out loud in public because of it).

And he got some nice character growth, saying he was helping Judai fins Johan because Judai had saved Saio before. And then him dueling Amon (that piece of s***) to save Echo...thanks season 3 for killing off my child.

And I never looked back. This person, this lovely Crystal Boy is my favorite boy forever and after 5 min of knowing him I knew that would be the character I would lose my shit over in these series.

I just love everything about Johan, his bond with the Crystal Beasts, his natural sense of leadership, his resolve to become a bridge between humans and spirits. But most of all, how he is the first true friend Judai has IMO. Johan sees Judai as an absolute equal, and in the span of a few episodes he develops a much more deeper bond with him than most (if not all) of his other friends in 2 seasons. I feel like, if Judai represents the Gentle Darkness, Johan is his Light counterpart (like Darkness and the Light of the Destruction...but good), that’s why they are so similar. My dream is that they would have explored this had season 4 not been cut short, maybe Johan was also a reincarnation seeing as he and Judai felt they had known each other before.

I think it was absolute BS that he wasn’t around for most of season 4 considering he was the catalyst for the second half of season 3 (wth s4 writing team). But at least he came back to duel Fujiwara with Judai and he made him laugh for the first time in like 50 episodes (everyone say thank you, Johan). It was in the middle of a duel to save Humanity but who cares those two children were having fun teasing Darkness. 

Well anyways, Judai, Edo and Johan are my boys. I love them a lot so please love them too. And love GX because half the flake it gets is undeserved tbh.
