genuinely one of the things that make me the most sad about s2 is just that dood had paeden/hermie syndrome and was just kinda forgotten until they were plot relevant. like i totally understand why (i can imagine dm npcs in the party are hard to keep track of/dm is more focused on the actual players) but the personification of an unknowable eldritch horror as a young, very impressionable, very unstable teenager who needs to be taught by other very unstable teenagers morals and how to be a human is such an intriguing concept but in the end not much is done with it outside of a few moments. they just kinda exist as a plot device and to restate the theme. and like thats fine, i just mourn what could've been yknow
#dndads#idk maybe this just isnt the medium for that kind of thing#or if the season were longer there would be more time for dood to develop and potentially fuck shit up#in my head i imagine dood growing even more fond of humanity now that they can actually interact with them in a real and healthy way#and they're like hey. what if i dont want to leave. what if i want to stay in this realm#what if i dont want to be alone again#or something. shrugs#anyway. ive had that on the mind for a while and finally remembered to get it out#back to drawing them#rambling

New Girlfriend IV
Lucy Bronze x Teen!Reader
Summary: Pokémon card trade night
"Don't," Lucy says as Ona watches her.
"I haven't said anything."
"But you're going to go."
"You're a good mum, Luce," Ona says earnestly," And I know she thinks so too."
"Are you sure you don't want to come with?"
"I just got off a plane. I'll stay here with Narla. Go and bond with your daughter."
"At trade night?" Lucy says in disbelief," And sweaty Pokémon fans? I'll try."
"Yes," Ona laughs," You're a real hero for that."
Lucy shoves on her shoes and coat, leaning up the stairs. "I'm leaving!" She yells," So you're either coming to trade night or I'm going to KFC!"
She waits barely a second before a thump comes from your room, sounding suspiciously like a game controller being flung at a table.
You come sprinting down the stairs, tying the drawstrings of the tracksuits bottoms that you've clearly just shoved on.
"I'm coming! I'm coming! Hi, Ona. I'm coming!"
Ona laughs. "Hi, y/n. Have fun at trade night."
"Mum couldn't convince you to come?"
"I think I'm happy getting over the flight."
"Your loss." You shrug, turning back to Lucy. "So, are we going or not?"
"I hope you're not playing on bringing that mouse with you."
You frown, looking down at the pocket at the very front of your jumper, where Ezio pokes his nose out of.
"I'll..." You laugh nervously. "I'll put him back. Don't leave without me!"
It's not often that you like leaving the house. For school and for Lucy's games and (more frequently now you're back in England) seeing your grandparents.
Most of the time, you don't leave the house because you want to, but rather because you have to.
Except for nights like these, at the local 'nerd shops' as Lucy calls them to trade some Pokémon cards.
"You've got everything?" Lucy checks as she finds a parking space out on the street," You didn't bring all your binders."
"I brought my trade binder and a few of my other sets that I need to fill up."
"Your...trade...binder?"
You roll your eyes, swinging your bag over your shoulder and slamming the car door shut. "Yes, my trade binder. It's got all the cards that are duplicates and I don't mind trading away for other ones."
"I don't get this," Lucy says, hands in her pockets as she walks up to your nerd shop," You don't even play the card game."
"It's not about playing the card game. It's...It's..."
"It's?"
"I just like it, okay? Is that too much to understand?!"
Lucy's teasing smile is wiped off her face. "Hey, no, wait. I'm so-"
"Leave it," You say, shoving past her," I wish Ona were here instead!"
Lucy watches you go in, hand still out and reaching for your shoulder.
People have told her so many times how good she's done at raising you. Your teachers have nothing but glowing remarks. You're smart and studious and you didn't interrupt in class. Perhaps you could talk more but that's not a life ruiner.
Her friends have always said you're polite and you speak well and you don't purposely try to get under their skin. You're nice and you're sweet and you're friendly with everyone.
But Lucy can never fully understand you.
She's always been moving, even as a child. She'd played football for as long as she can remember, always high energy, always going-going-going until she had no more energy to go any longer.
You're not like, not in that way anyway.
You're more reserved and solitary, happy to sit in your room with your gaming consoles and your YouTube videos and your mice.
This card collecting thing had happened when she was still with Keira and away for the weekend. Keira had bought you a pack while at the store and you'd been hooked ever since.
Lucy can't even remember the last time your allowance hadn't been spent on those dumb plastic booster packs. She's never understood it.
Keira used to take the reins on this kind of thing while they were still together so Lucy's way out of her comfort zone when she finally steps inside of the nerd store.
It's more packed than she thought it would be, with people of all ages.
She catches sight of you up ahead. It's hard not to when you're wearing the Assassin's Creed coat she got you for Christmas last year and your binders are kept safe in the Mario Kart backpack you usually use for school.
Lucy fights the crowd to get to you.
"Whoa. Are you Lucy Bronze?"
There's some little kid staring up at her, clutching a binder with wide eyes and their mouth hanging open.
"I am."
"Wow! Can...Can...Mummy! Mummy can you get my Squirtle? I want Lucy Bronze to sign it!" The kid turns back to her. "I don't have my Bronze shirt with me but can you sign one of my cards?"
It's not the weirdest thing Lucy's ever had to sign but it's certainly the weirdest place she'd ever signed anything.
"Sure, kid!"
"Thank you," The mother says as Lucy grabs a pen from a random table. "It means the world to him."
"Mum!"
The pen has just been uncapped when Lucy looks up, stopping everything she's doing to respond to you.
"Yeah, what's up? Are you okay?"
Her eyes rove over you, checking for bumps and bruises but coming up empty.
"You can't sign that!"
"What?"
The little boy's bottom lip wobbles and you nearly push Lucy out of the way to kneel down in front of him.
"You don't want her signing a common card," You tell him," Get her to sign this instead." You produce a card from your trade binder.
It's an illustration rare Squirtle from your Scarlet and Violet 151 set.
The little boy gasps, reaching for the card your offering but his mum stops him.
"This is trade night, Micheal," She reminds him," Give her something in return."
You gave him a grin, sitting cross legged on the floor.
"You got a binder for me to look through?"
The boy nods hurriedly, prying it out of his mother's hands to flip through.
"Which one do you like? Why don't you pick me one out?"
You give the little boy your 151 Squirtle Illustration Rare and he gives you a Paldean Fates common Fidough.
Lucy signs the new Squirtle card with a little frown, waving as the boy and his mother head off.
"Why'd you do that?" She asks, arms over your shoulder so you can't escape again.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"I'm not stupid," Lucy says," I know that was a rarer card. I know you've already got like twelve of the card you got in return. Why'd you do it?"
You shrug. "I don't know. It made him happy. Does it really matter?"
"Yeah but..."
Lucy goes quiet, glancing back at that little boy.
She made him happy by signing his card. You made him happy by giving him one.
You've never asked her why she signs people's jerseys.
Lucy glances back over at you as you trade away cards for new ones and open packs amongst people that are just like you.
Her hand itches to open one with you but it's just a twitch in her fingers. She keeps it by her side though, refusing to interrupt this safe space you've built for yourself.
The staff here know you by name and Lucy doesn't want to ruin that for you.
So, she stays in the background, looking through the shelves and through the bulk items and holding some of your half finished binders of sets that you're yet to complete.
"You looking for anything specific?" One of the staff members asks, leaning against the table as Lucy looks up like she's just been delivered a fairly painful electric shock.
"No!" She says hurriedly, hoping to fade into the background like she's been doing for most of this evening. "No, I mean...er...My kid...?"
The woman laughs. "I get it. First trade night? Kid's excited? You have no idea what's going on?"
"Something like that," Lucy says," My-My ex-partner used to take her to these and my new one's waiting at home for us and I-" She sighs. "I have no idea what I'm doing."
"I get it. First time for anything. So, you looking for yourself or for your kid?"
"For her," Lucy says," I don't know. I'm just looking."
"Well," The woman replies," I'm happy to help any parent out of their depth. Any specific sets or Pokémon?"
Lucy tries to rack her brain for anything you've mentioned specifically before, coming up short for a little while before:
"Eevee?" She asks cautiously," No, not Eevee. The evil Eevee? You know, the black one with the ears and the rings?"
"Umbreon?"
"Yeah, that! She's trying to collect all of them."
"Ah, now that I can help with."
Lucy's hands shake as she approaches you.
You've found a little corner to sort through all your new cards, slipping some of them into binders waiting for only a scant few more.
"Hey," Lucy says, uncharacteristically nervous as you look up at her.
"Hey?"
"I...er..." She clears her throat. "I got you a gift. A few gifts, I guess."
She places her offerings in front of you and you shuffle through them, eyes getting wider and wider.
"You got me a Moonbreon?!"
Lucy finally makes eye contact, alarmed. "No?! I promise I told the girl Umbreon! I'll get you a new one. Crap. I didn't mean to make a mista-"
You crash into her, arms curling around her as she cautiously puts her arms around you as well.
"It's the nickname of the card, Mum," You say," I've been looking for one for ages. It must have been expensive. Thank you."
"Of course, pumpkin," Lucy says," Of course."
You look up at her, searching for something that Lucy hopes she's showing in her eyes.
"Do you...Do you want to open some packs with me?" You look hopeful and Lucy's throat goes dry as she nods.
It's late when you finally look to be winding down and people finally start looking like they're leaving the store.
You snag Lucy's sleeve.
"I..Can you open these for me?"
You hand over two packs.
One's in English.
One's in Japanese.
Lucy frowns.
"These look...old..."
"They are," You admit," It's the base set. Like, first edition."
"These must have been expensive."
You bite at your lip. "I traded away my completed Brilliant Stars set. These are probably worth more but I think the guy who had them just wanted them gone. I..I can't open them myself. Can you?"
"I can. Don't worry."
Lucy fights to keep her hands from shaking as she tears open the packets.
She swipes through each card. They're completely meaningless to her but you freeze.
"Is this good? Godzilla?"
"Charizard."
"Huh?"
"Godzilla's a movie franchise, Mum. That's Charizard."
"Oh, is it?"
You shakily offer her your Japanese packet. "Mum, here."
The second Charizard is in your hand a moment later.
"Whoa!" Lucy laughs," What's with all the hugging today, huh?"
"You're the best," You tell her earnestly," I don't tell you enough but you're the best, Mum."
Lucy smiles at you, kissing the top of your head. "Just want to make you happy."

My Favorite Cheap Art Trick: Gradient Maps and Blending Modes
i get questions on occasion regarding my coloring process, so i thought i would do a bit of a write up on my "secret technique." i don't think it really is that much of a secret, but i hope it can be helpful to someone. to that end:
this is one of my favorite tags ive ever gotten on my art. i think of it often. the pieces in question are all monochrome - sort of.
the left version is the final version, the right version is technically the original. in the final version, to me, the blues are pretty stark, while the greens and magentas are less so. there is some color theory thing going on here that i dont have a good cerebral understanding of and i wont pretend otherwise. i think i watched a youtube video on it once but it went in one ear and out the other. i just pick whatever colors look nicest based on whatever vibe im going for.
this one is more subtle, i think. can you tell the difference? there's nothing wrong with 100% greyscale art, but i like the depth that adding just a hint of color can bring.
i'll note that the examples i'll be using in this post all began as purely greyscale, but this is a process i use for just about every piece of art i make, including the full color ones. i'll use the recent mithrun art i made to demonstrate. additionally, i use clip studio paint, but the general concept should be transferable to other art programs.

for fun let's just start with Making The Picture. i've been thinking of making this writeup for a while and had it in mind while drawing this piece. beyond that, i didn't really have much of a plan for this outside of "mithrun looks down and hair goes woosh." i also really like all of the vertical lines in the canary uniform so i wanted to include those too but like. gone a little hog wild. that is the extent of my "concept." i do not remember why i had the thought of integrating a shattered mirror type of theme. i think i wanted to distract a bit from the awkward pose and cover it up some LOL but anyway. this lack of planning or thought will come into play later.
note 1: the textured marker brush i specifically use is the "bordered light marker" from daub. it is one of my favorite brushes in the history of forever and the daub mega brush pack is one of the best purchases ive ever made. highly recommend!!!
note 2: "what do you mean by exclusion and difference?" they are layer blending modes and not important to the overall lesson of this post but for transparency i wanted to say how i got these "effects." anyway!
with the background figured out, this is the point at which i generally merge all of my layers, duplicate said merged layer, and Then i begin experimenting with gradient maps. what are gradient maps?
the basic gist is that gradient maps replace the colors of an image based on their value.
so, with this particular gradient map, black will be replaced with that orangey red tone, white will be replaced with the seafoamy green tone, etc. this particular gradient map i'm using as an example is very bright and saturated, but the colors can be literally anything.
these two sets are the ones i use most. they can be downloaded for free here and here if you have csp. there are many gradient map sets out there. and you can make your own!
you can apply a gradient map directly onto a specific layer in csp by going to edit>tonal correction>gradient map. to apply one indirectly, you can use a correction layer through layer>new correction layer>gradient map. honestly, correction layers are probably the better way to go, because you can adjust your gradient map whenever you want after creating the layer, whereas if you directly apply a gradient map to a layer thats like. it. it's done. if you want to make changes to the applied gradient map, you have to undo it and then reapply it. i don't use correction layers because i am old and stuck in my ways, but it's good to know what your options are.
this is what a correction layer looks like. it sits on top and applies the gradient map to the layers underneath it, so you can also change the layers beneath however and whenever you want. you can adjust the gradient map by double clicking the layer. there are also correction layers for tone curves, brightness/contrast, etc. many such useful things in this program.
let's see how mithrun looks when we apply that first gradient map we looked at.
gadzooks. apologies for eyestrain. we have turned mithrun into a neon hellscape, which might work for some pieces, but not this one. we can fix that by changing the layer blending mode, aka this laundry list of words:
some of them are self explanatory, like darken and lighten, while some of them i genuinely don't understand how they are meant to work and couldn't explain them to you, even if i do use them. i'm sure someone out there has written out an explanation for each and every one of them, but i've learned primarily by clicking on them to see what they do.
for the topic of this post, the blending mode of interest is soft light. so let's take hotline miamithrun and change the layer blending mode to soft light.
here it is at 100% opacity. this is the point at which i'd like to explain why i like using textured brushes so much - it makes it very easy to get subtle color variation when i use this Secret Technique. look at the striation in the upper right background! so tasty. however, to me, these colors are still a bit "much." so let's lower the opacity.
i think thats a lot nicer to look at, personally, but i dont really like these colors together. how about we try some other ones?
i like both of these a lot more. the palettes give the piece different vibes, at which point i have to ask myself: What Are The Vibes, Actually? well, to be honest i didn't really have a great answer because again, i didn't plan this out very much at all. however. i knew in my heart that there was too much color contrast going on and it was detracting from the two other contrasts in here: the light and dark values and the sharp and soft shapes. i wanted mithrun's head to be the main focal point. for a different illustration, colors like this might work great, but this is not that hypothetical illustration, so let's bring the opacity down again.
yippee!! that's getting closer to what my heart wants. for fun, let's see what this looks like if we change the blending mode to color.
i do like how these look but in the end they do not align with my heart. oh well. fun to experiment with though! good to keep in mind for a different piece, maybe! i often change blending modes just to see what happens, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. i very much cannot stress enough that much of my artistic process is clicking buttons i only sort of understand. for fun.
i ended up choosing the gradient map on the right because i liked that it was close to the actual canary uniform colors (sorta). it's at an even lower opacity though because there was Still too much color for my dear heart.
the actual process for this looks like me setting my merged layer to soft light at around 20% opacity and then clicking every single gradient map in my collection and seeing which one Works. sometimes i will do this multiple times and have multiple soft light and/or color layers combined.
typically at this point i merge everything again and do minor contrast adjustments using tone curves, which is another tool i find very fun to play around with. then for this piece in particular i did some finishing touches and decided that the white border was distracting so i cropped it. and then it's done!!! yay!!!!!
this process is a very simple and "fast" way to add more depth and visual interest to a piece without being overbearing. well, it's fast if you aren't indecisive like me, or if you are better at planning.
let's do another comparison. personally i feel that the hint of color on the left version makes mithrun look just a bit more unwell (this is a positive thing) and it makes the contrast on his arm a lot more pleasing to look at. someone who understands color theory better than i do might have more to say on the specifics, but that's honestly all i got.
just dont look at my layers too hard. ok?

Yan!Baldwin IV X Reincarnation!Reader

✎Summary✐ you got reincarnated as Baldwin's wife.
⚠Warnings⚠ historically inaccurate mentions of death, guy of lusignan, racism?(I don't if it counts as racism btw it has nothing to do with skin color).
✎Note✐ reader is a female in this. Author hates this but decided to post it anyway. This is not the actual historical figure but the figure from KoH movie.

You don't understand how it happened.
How did you end up in Jerusalem?. It's Not our modern day Jerusalem, it's 1181 AD.
From what you understood, you are during the anjou household reign of Jerusalem, most likely during king Baldwin IV time due to Saladin's name being mentioned so it must be around that time. But that's just a guess, if it is true then The king must be about 19 at this point.
When you first opened your eyes you found yourself laying on an a soft mattress, According to who they seemed to be maids, you had fainted while walking through the garden. You do have some blur memories of walking through a grand garden even though you know for sure that you did not walk through such garden ever in your life.
the last thing you remember, that you know that you actually did, that you went to sleep on your bed in your home, that's it. You didn't die while sleeping, did you?.
maybe you somehow took someone's else life, a someone from history none the less. It may sound bazaar but it's the only logical explanation in this unlogical situation.
While you were dozing off, trying to think of a solution to this disaster, The door was pushed wide open. a woman with fine clothing and jewelry enters with servants following her in. "I see you have finally decided to wake up." Her tone was sharp so was her glare.
You stared back at her, not with the same coldness but with confusion. "Who are you..?" You do know that she has to be a noble due to her clothing, but which noble? And why did she visit you? Why is her tone was as if you two know each other?.
She scoffed "It seems like the maids were right, It seems like you actually went mad this time." 'This bitch-' you thought to yourself, you can only say such things in your mind because you don't want to insult someone who might has the power to execute you on the spot. "Who are you?." You ask again, this time with determination.
"Sibylla of Jerusalem." You face went pale, you thought knowing her identify would make you understand the situation better but it only confused you more, why would she visit you?.
You look away, you feel like you're gonna faint again. "Tsk.. Pathetic.." She mumbles as you grip on the bedsheets, she grabs your chin and makes you look directly to blue eyes. "Hold yourself better, you are no common girl, remember that you are queen of Jerusalem, wife to my brother, you are y/n of Jerusalem.. Even if I don't deem you worth of such honour yet here we are.."
You are not sure if she wanted to scold you or mock you, either way her words hurt you even though you don't know why, it just stungs.
"We're having dinner this evening, you should be fine by then." She stated as she turned her to leave. you wanted to protest, you are in no condition to join a stupid dinner. "But-" "absence is unacceptable." she cuts you, she doesn't even bother to turn around to look at you yet her words held a warning in them. With that she finally left you alone.
Now you know whose life you are in, yes life not body because you are 100% sure that this is your own body, whatever. In history her name was forgotten so she's only known as Baldwin's IV wife or the Saracen queen.
Basically Baldwin and her got married to secure an alliance between Jerusalem and some Saracens, and to prevent Saladin from getting anymore power since your people are also in odds with Saladin.
You pity her.
No one cared about her, she was just a tool for her family to gain more power, Jerusalem's court despited her because she is still a filthy Saracen in their eyes and not to mention that king Baldwin IV, her own husband did not spare her a single glance during the entire of their marriage. It's not personal, it's just she's the least of his concerns.
In the end of the day she was executed because she attempted to poison to Sibylla but failed, it is unclear whatever she was truly guilty or framed.
No.. No. You won't die like this.. You won't live like this! You don't want to die with sorrow and tears!.
You won't allow history to repeat itself, you don't care if it's gonna change tomorrow's history or not, you value your happiness more than history that you might not live to see.
If you want a peaceful life, you have two potions.
you earn the King's favor and then you will live peaceful as the queen.
Which you are mostly to take, run away after securing a good amount of money.
Just in case, you're gonna try to secure both plans. You will try to earns his favor while earning enough money to escape.
➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹➷➹
Evening came fast.
You didn't want to leave bed but you also didn't want to piss off sibylla so it sucks to suck. Even though you still don't understand, how can she threaten you?! I mean yes she is a princess but you are the queen here for God's sake!. Damn was the old owner this weak that no one respected her title as queen?, however this will change, You didn't die to live again to take bullshit again.
The maids may not be fond of you but they sure did well in dressing you up, you don't like you're about to throw up at any given moment at all But the hard part isn't not looking like you're about to throw up, the hard part is not actually throwing up in front of everyone.
"Come on y/n!." You cheer up on yourself in front of mirror, you were right about the body thing, it is your body. you look like you, not like the actual historical figure (even though there is no surviving portraits of her but okay). 'I'm happy that i didn't lose you, my sweet sexy asf face' you wink at yourself before someone's voice interpreted your flirting session with yourself. "What are you doing?." God.. Why can't they leave you the fuck alone?. First Sibylla, now this?.
"wHaT aRe YoU dOiNg?." You repeat mockingly before turning around only to see Baldwin IV in flesh and blood standing in front of you, you recognized him easily due to the mask. Your face went paler then it went with sibylla, why is God doing this to you? You are praying for the ground to open in half and sallow you.
His blue eyes just stared into yours, it felt like he is staring right through your soul. "..." He didn't mutter a word, You don't know what he is thinking but whatever it is, it doesn't seems like something you want to know about.
You wanted to cry, really. But not in front of him because it would only worsen the situation, after all you just mocked a king.
"..."
It's been quite the few minutes, he didn't say anything yet. 'You know what? I already ate shit so let's just walk away and pretend that nothing has happened.. Maybe he will just ignore it and then I'll get to keep my head..' You thought to yourself.
You proceeded your plan and it actually worked! He let you walk away although you felt his eyes still watching you like a hawk.
Dinner was as awkward as you'd expect. You tried your best to just focus on your platte and ignore everyone else on the table. "Are you alright?." It's Sibylla, even though her words seems out of concern, her voice holds no kindness to it.
You looked up from your plate, you stare back at her but this time with more confidence since the last time you two spoke. "Yes, I am fine." You replied to her question with a calm yet confident note.
That caused sybilla to stare at you. You have never acted like this before, you were always quiet and shy, never once you looked right into her eyes with such directness.
"I heard that you fainted in the gardens today. you should look out for your health more your Highness... It would be a shame if you become so sickly like someone we know.." Said the man who is seated next to Sibylla, who you assume is guy of lusignan.
At his words Baldwin looked up at him, that caused guy to shift uncomfortably in his seat, he hated everything about Baldwin, especially his blue eyes when they stared right through his soul.
'God.. It's so awkward...' You thought before deciding to gamble with fate again. "Your majesty.. Your food will get cold.. Please eat." You hold his gloved hands in yours as you tried to give the kindest smile you could manage. He moved his eyes from guy's to yours before he pulled his hands away and continued his meal.
That went as smooth as possible.. You could feel Sibylla's glare but you couldn't care less, what matters now is to earn Baldwin's favor.

HII, ive read both of your seong je fic's and i love them so much, i remember being at the verge of crashing out bc all of the other fics were basically pure assault and then i found yours 😭😭 you truly are a savior, could i request a fic where reader matches seong je's freak but has some mentalheath issues , reader has been holding in all her emotions for a while and was begining to lose hope in herself and while she and seong je were goofing around or doing something reader finally bursts and has a break down (she has never shown this vulnerable crying/depressed side of hers to him), i hope this isnt too much 😭✋
New
Syn : this may be your last day with seongje
Warnings : NOT PROOFREADING! Mention of mental health, suicidal thoughts, angst
Word count : 1.8k
A/N : I HOPE I GOT THIS REQUEST RIGHT ! I’m so glad people are enjoying what I write, so thank you so much for reading omg 🫶🏽. This is my 1st or 2nd time writing angst so this may not be good so please let me know what I can fix next time around !! Enjoy
You were no stranger to anyone. Your beauty, your short temper, and well known boyfriend that fit you perfectly made you well known. You were looked up to by some of the union members due to your methods of work, “seongje part 2” in short. Those were the only things people knew you for, not knowing anything about your life, how you got into the union, or even if you were a student.
———
Music leaked out of your headphones, the moon shining down against your skin, smoke blowing out of your mouth.
You looked up at the bright glowing moon, wondering what life would’ve been like if things were just a little different. Lately your mind has been all over the place, you’ve struggled with your mental health since you were young but lately it seemed as if you were relapsing back into those dark times. Life was always against you in every shape and form, leading you to where you were now. You wondered if you did better in school– no. If you weren’t raised the way you wer–no, what if you weren’t even born in such a family would you have had a better life?
Better mental health? Better friends ? A chance to go to college? All these thoughts crowded your mind, a constant reminder that you were never and never will be good enough for the things you desired so much. The oh so little things seemed so big and crushing. You slowly wondered if you should just end it all. Should yo—
You looked down at your phone to see seongje was calling, you quickly cleared your throat and tried to clear your mind before answering.
“Hello..”
“Where are you? I’m at the Internet cafe you said you would play with me and the guys tonight.”
“Oh. I’m already on the way, I just lost track of time I was taking care of something.”
“Something or someone? Hey just get your ass over here alright? We’ll play a game you like.”
He hung up the phone after quickly saying that, you decided you shouldn’t just leave him waiting for you, you started walking before catching a cab. Giving you enough time to fix yourself up in your phone camera and clear your mind.
————————————————————
You arrived outside of the cafe, you inhaled before heading inside.
“Mrs. Keum is here”
One of the union members playfully said as we you walked in, you raised your hand in a motion to hit him playfully before pulling back. You walked over to seongje and giving him the usual shoulder touch to notify him that you were here and sat next to him.
“You should leave the game you’re playing, you’re getting your ass whooped anyways.”
You mocked him, you knew he would never fail at a game unless he was new at it, which he hated trying new game for that same reason. He quickly closed out of the game.
“I was done anyways.”
He said with an attitude.
“You should stick with your usual, it fits you better…”
“Shut up.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at how upset he was over a game. It was funny how quickly your feelings changed, from being down in the dumps to laughing at a guy upset about a game.
“Let’s play a few rounds? I wanna go out after this.”
You said to him as you elbowed his arm.
A few rounds turned into..a lot? You both sat there for hours, the setting sun when you got there turned into dark night. After finishing your unknown round you picked up your phone to check the time.
“Oh shit. Hey let’s get out of here I wanna do stuff before everything closes”
You quickly turned off the computer and stood up, said bye to the familiar union faced, and went outside quicker than it could register in seongjes brain.
He soon followed after you.
“ I want to go to an arcade..or maybe a photobooth..and uh–“
“That’s random.”
Seongje stared at you with a slight smile, maybe even an awkward one, it was weird for you to ask to do things like this. You never asked to do anything extra but he said nothing more when you grabbed his hand and started forcing him to walk in the direction you wanted to go in. You didn’t say much to him on your walk, you just held his hand that he placed in his pocket. Soaking in the sweetness of the moment.
The next couple of hours you enjoyed your time yelling at him during arcade games and laser tag, arguing over who won and who cheated during the games, trying to play clearly rigged claw games to win cute keychains and plushies. The feeling reminded you of the sweet spring air, the blooming flowers, and the crowded streets. Everything felt just right. The last stop for the night was a photo-booth, which seongje didn’t take seriously, either not posing or making odd poses behind you, the last picture on the strip catching a kiss. Soon after you both left, walking in the direction of your home.
“Seongje.”
He stopped walking and turned his head waiting for what else you had to say.
“can I go home with you?”
The truth was. You didn’t want to go home, you knew if you did, your mind would just consume you again, and you didn’t know what would happen if it did.
“Why even ask?”
Seongje said in a smug way, walking towards you before wrapping his arm around your shoulder, before turning away from the path of your house.
————————————————————
At seongjes place you continued to play games, you sat on his bed while he sat on the floor between your legs, his head resting against your thigh. The talking and laughter between you two lasted for hours, up until one question was asked.
“What would I do without you?”
You knew he wasn’t genuinely asking, you KNEW he was talking about the game you were playing, yet those words echoed in your mind. You started to feel worse than earlier, you were contemplating leaving this life behind, yet you never thought about seongje. What WOULD seongje do alone? You didn’t think about how he would react? How he would look at the moon differently? How he would play game differently? How he would act with the union? Seongje was also the only one in your messed up world you cared about so why didn’t you think about him?
You started to cry, you couldn’t help it. You didn’t want to act this way in front of him, you didn’t want him to see you act like a huge crybaby, but the more you tried to not cry the more the tears came out. You couldn’t see the game anymore so you put down the controller.
Seongje turned around after seeing you weren’t playing anymore and were sniffing. He just sat there staring, he wasn’t used to you seeing you cry, let alone upset? He didn’t know what to do, he didn’t know how to comfort you. He quickly stood up in panic and looked around for anything he had to comfort you or at least wipe your face.
He ran out of the room and quickly returned with some tissue before sitting next to you trying to remove your hands from your face so he could wipe your face.
“What’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?”
You looked up and looked in his eyes
“Seongje..”
You choked out before putting your face into his chest and continued crying. His hands were up in the air, he didn’t know what to do, the only time someone cried in front of him is when someone owed him, but never for anything else. He tried to search his mind for something to say. His hands finally went to your back, patting it.
“What’s wrong..? You can tell me. I promise I won’t get mad?”
He said softly. He thought you must’ve done something really wrong if you reacted this way, but usually if you did something wrong you would just argue about it, or just pretend you were in the right anyways. He wasn’t sure what to think or do.
“I’m sorry. Seongje I really am, I was gonna leave you alone. I wanted… to leave you here alone.”
“What.”
Seongje was in a shock, he knew what you meant, but he didn’t want to believe it. He wanted to believe this was a way for you to say you were breaking up with him, quitting the union, or just moving away. He wanted to believe any other outcome, he didn’t know you were struggling, and he didn’t want to believe you had gotten this bad without him knowing anything about it. He didn’t want to imagine what would’ve happened behind his back, and he would’ve never knew you were struggling.
“I’m just. Tired. Really tired. I don’t know what’s going on recently, I don’t know what triggered this. I don’t know what to do anymore, I don’t know what I want, I just feel like there’s no place for me.”
“That’s ok.. it’s ok. You don’t have to have the answer for anything, but you just have to keep going.”
He had no clue what to say but his mouth started moving before he knew it, trying to push out anything that could fix your freshly cut wound.
“Everyone struggles, that’s how we got here didn’t we? We can get through this together. You don’t have to hold everything in and keep it to yourself. I know I’m not the best at this type of stuff but I’m always here for you.”
It’s funny, a guy who usually crushes spirits trying to uplift someone else up.
He didn’t know what he was doing but it was working, you thought it was funny to see him ramble in anyway he can to comfort you. For the next few minutes you kept your head in his chest before his next ramble, this time making no sense. You lifted your head up and looked at him before laughing at the confused yet worried expression on his face.
“You look silly”
You said before wiping your eyes
“Says the one with snot coming out their nose.”
He rolled his eyes before taking more tissue to wipe your face.
“Hey. After this, promise to tell me when you’re upset? I don’t want to lose you. Seriously.”
“Promise.”
————————————————————
That night..or early morning you laid in his arms, telling him all your worries and your history with your mental health. How far it went last time and the last time you struggled this bad. He learned another side of you then. How his tough lover was someone who struggled by themselves, he was thankful you were so strong, he was glad you made it this far, he was glad that he met you. He promised to himself in the future that he’ll be there for you, whatever it was. Work for the union, Giving someone a beating, or just being there for you in your hard times.
He was going to be there.

masterlist
it had been a few weeks since your chat with leah, and slowly your behaviour had started to change and not for the worse. but for the better!
it took a few more scoldings from leah and kim for doing silly things like, putting food colouring in pelovas shampoo or folding over all the pages in emily's book she was reading or when kept interrupting steph when she was filming a thirty second clip for the media team it ending up taking the australian thirty minutes to film the video instead of a minute.
but after one to many sit downs with leah and kim something clicked in your head and your mischievous acts slowly stopped.
so much so that in the first few days when you hadn't pulled a joke on anyone, the arsenal girls were wondering if you were sick or if something drastic had happened.
the girls feeling on edge about not having to check over their stuff or checking over door handles incase you had gotten to them before they had.
“y/n are you sure your not sick, there’s no way you’ve just turned down kyra’s attempt to cause havoc again!”
“i’m a changed women stephy! that’s the old me!”
and while you were technically a changed women it was all because of that big goal you had looming over your head. that you wanted to reach.
getting to the euro 2025.
yeah you still pulled a small harmless joke like scaring alessia whenever she came around a corner but that was just banter plus her face every time you did it was priceless.
plus leah said you were allowed to have some fun!
"you've had a good session today y/n" kim complimented you as she sat down next to you in the changing room you busy taking off your boots, kim felt a lot more relaxed the past few weeks not having to look over her shoulder every time she took a step in the training ground.
"thanks kim" you smiled at the captain, "let's hope you have another masterclass this weekend ey?" she nudged you as a small laugh came from you as kim was bringing up your two goals you got last weekend in the league.
"i hope so" you shrugged, your mind wasn't really on the weekend as much as it should you were more concerned about if you were going to get the phone call tomorrow or not, which would determine where your family were having their summer holiday.
"you thinking about the getting the call up?" kim asked quietly knowing your head was clearly somewhere else due to your lack of chattiness, normally your teammates would have a hard time getting you to stop talking.
you hummed as you nodded, kim bumping her shoulder into yours. "you'll get the call up, there's been a massive improvement in you over the last few weeks y/n"
you looked up to kim, seeing a genuine look on her face, "i mean it, and not only on the pitch but off the pitch too!"
"gosh your full of compliments today kimmy! did you finally wake up on the right side of the bed" you joked as you watched kim roll her eyes a small scoff coming from her.
"anddd she back! there's the y/n i know!"
it was the next day and it was safe to say you hardly slept spending too long up thinking about what you would do if you didn't get the call up, all those extra sessions, all those days spent trying to change your behaviour would have been for nothing.
but also thinking about what you would do if you did get the call up, how happy you would be and how proud your family would be of you.
walking into the colony you were tired, you were dragging your feet as your walked. your body feeling tired and you hadn't even done anything today yet.
grabbing your usual breakfast and slouching down on a chair on the closest table. "heard anything yet?" you looked up to see leah raising her eyebrows at you. shaking your head you began to eat praying it would wake you up a little.
"the list doesn't get posted until 12 so—" you hummed along with whatever leah was saying before you along with the other who were sat on your table fell into your usual small talk.
"y/n! your phones ringing!" alessia tapped you on the shoulder, your eyes snapping to the phone screen an unknown number on the screen.
"well answer it then!" leah said quickly as you scrambled to answer. standing up and walking over to the stand in the hallway where you'd be able to hear whoever was calling better.
leah, along with beth, kim, lia and alessia were all looking trying to decipher what you were saying and what the scenario was.
"do you think she's got the call up?" beth whispered as leah was trying so hard to lip read what you were saying but was really having no luck as she hadn't a clue what you were saying.
"surely, she'd be a great addition to the squad for the euros" alessia pointed out as beth hummed, along with lia and kim nodding along.
"oh she'll be gutted if she doesn't get it" lia sighed as kim give a knowing look. while she was silently praying for you hoping that you would as she dread to think about your reaction if you didn't get it.
"will you shut up i'm trying to listen!" leah huffed as she scowl at the group before going back to try her lip reading again it feeling as though you'd been standing in that hallway on the phone for the last hour when in reality it had been probably less than ten minutes.
"how is she able to hear when there's a wall there-" alessia whispered in beth's direction as beth shrugged waving off what leah had just said.
"right act normal she coming back-" leah spoke fast turning her body back around to the position she was sat in when you left trying to make out that she hadn't just been intensely staring at the conversation you were having on the phone.
"oh no she doesn't look very happy-" lia whispered, you walking in a small frown on your face. as your shoulders were hanging low as you sighed sitting down in your original seat.
"oh- y/n i'm so sor—"
"I'M GOING TO THE EUROS BABY!" you cheered, your face changing in a split second from a frown to a big cheesy grin as the canteen when quiet for a minute as they all processed what you'd said.
the girls all jumped up hugging you and congratulating you as they told you how proud they were of you.
“what did sarina say?” beth asked as the celebrations calmed down and everyone had sat back down.
“she just said she’d seen how well i’ve been playing and she thinks i could be good option for a game changer at the euros” you said with the same smile, it not leaving your face and probably wouldn’t be for a long time.
leah sat listening to you as you recalled the phone call over to them, as she sat like a proud mother. "yes kiddo! switzerland won't know what has hit them!"

Shadows are to protect II

Shadows are to protect I, III, IV
summary~ When you finally start to thrive at Arsenal there’s still one person that’s holding you back.

You sat there. In the dark, on your grey couch, the picture of you and Alexia staring at you. The bright light of your screen brightened your face like the Barcelona sun had done a few months ago. You couldn’t run away anymore, you were stuck. No one to talk to and no one to come home to.
Looking down at your screen again you saw the little beads of salty water resting on your screen. And even though you’ve been lonely for far too long you’ve never let the evidence of salty water show it. You never really were a crier, Alexia had always told you to be strong and not to show anyone those emotions, they made you seem weaker than your were.
But when you really needed her she didn’t say a thing about being strong. When you’d go home and cried, you cried in her arms. She held you when you needed to without doubt. She didn’t need you to tell her what was wrong, she just knew that you needed her so she’d be there, always.
‘Ale, i need you’
And that’s how you landed on the first morning flight to Barcelona you could find. The ticket was as pricey as they could get but that didn’t matter, you just needed your sister.
The welcome was warm, like always. It was all too familiar. The airport where you’ve landed and departed from all those Barca years. The sun was at it’s brightest and it almost melted you to the dark tarmac of the airfield. And somehow that thought felt more enjoyable than any thought you had in the past week. Being stuck to Barcelona.
Alexia had told you to be strong and that she’ll visit you soon but you didn’t think that soon would be soon enough.
You got into an severely overpriced taxi at the airport and directed him towards your sisters house. The car was hot and it felt like your skin was melting away. You could see little beads of sweat forming on your driver’s forehead. You didn’t think you could miss a warm sweaty car this much but you had been missing it.
When the vibrating car stopped moving and the motor of the car was cooling down you got out. With both of your feet on the sidewalk of Alexia’s house you were stuck. You traveled all the way to her home to stand still in front of it.
She probably wasn’t even home. The Barca girls had training from 9 to at least 1 if they were lucky. When you finally got the courage to take another step you looked under one of the plants in front of her door. It was dead, you were sure of it but she kept it anyway. Honestly, you didn’t get it. Why do people get plants they know they can’t take care of. It just so sad to see something that was once so green and full of life dry out.
Alexia’s house was cold. Her dog Nala was waiting for her to return but was surprised by the sight of you. You hadn’t seen Nala in a while but you were so sure she would’ve remembered you, she would always remember you, like everyone else right? You loved Nala.
When you scrolled through an ad of a shelter for dogs you saw Nala. You read her description and immediately knew you had to give her a new life. Alexia was in a dark place and so was Nala, they needed eachother. So the next week you picked the princess up and drove to your sisters house to surprise her.
Alexia wasn’t really fond of having a dog in house but that changed so quick. Nala was Alexia’s princess, and yours too.
But Nala didn’t seem to remember anything from that story anymore. She wasn’t jumping on you or letting out some hard barks. The little dog was growling at you. She seemed to forget you, just like whole Barcelona did.
You sat there, on Alexia’s couch. The one that you used to crash on at least once a week. Nala was sat next to you, she was paying no mind to you. Scrolling through your Instagram feed you saw Alessia with Katie and Caitlin. It made you jealous to some extent. She had friends and you, you didn’t, not really. The girls were nice but they weren’t friends. At the moment you didn’t really have friends anywhere.
You heard the noise of keys and Nala’s ears shot right up. Alexia’s home.
You heard her grunt and drop her training bag at the door. Nala’s steps were going towards your sister and so were yours. “Hola, hermana.” you welcomed her. Her eyes shot up to your face and her arms flew open to embrace you.
You almost sprung into her arms. Alexia didn’t say anything, she just held you and you didn’t let go. “you’re gonna be okay.” she whispered and that’s when you lost it. Tears started to stream down your face. Alexia’s grey sweater had taken a darker shade of grey and she could feel the deathly grip you had on her sweater.
“I’m not gonna be okay Ale. I don’t know what i’m doing.” you cried. She didn’t assure you you didn’t, she didn’t tell you that you just needed to get used to England. She just hummed. And it kind of made you love her even more for it. She didn’t offer you some fake sympathy talk, she kept it real.
The both of you didn’t say much more that day. You went to sleep early and Alexia crawled next to you later that night. With her arms around you and a kiss to your forehead she wished you goodnight. It was nights like these that you missed more than anything.
You woke up around 4 am. Nala and Alexia were dead asleep so you picked your phone up from your nightstand. You had gotten one message. ‘Hey, i didn’t see you at practice today, are you okay? If you want to talk to anyone, i’m here’ you read. Victoria Pelova cared about you?
You knew Alessia and Victoria were good friends. And it made sense Alessia probably hadn’t told Victoria about.. you. Just like you still hadn’t told anyone about Alessia.
Alexia grumbled a bit and opened her eyes. “What are you doing hermanita?” she asked you tiredly. “Pelova, you know her. She was wondering where i was today and asked me if i’m okay and if i needed someone to talk to.” you explained. Alexia hummed understandingly. “I think you should talk to her. Maybe you’d get along eh?” she thought aloud.
She was right, you had to give her a chance. She was being nice and it wasn’t like you had any other friends in London. So you texted her back, ‘I’m in Barcelona at the moment, just needed to see some family. Maybe we could talk when i’m back?’.
Alexia didn’t exactly say that she wanted you out of her house after day three but you knew she did. So when she came home after training you took that as your cue to travel back to the still red North London.
You came home around dinner time and didn’t really have anything to eat. ‘Are you back in England yet?’ Victoria had texted. You texted her that you were and if she wanted to come over to order something. And in less than twenty minutes she was knocking on your door.
“I took some Chinese takeout with me on the way, hope you don’t mind?” she smiled. You thanked her with a grin.
Victoria seemed like a very extroverted and outspoken and maybe even a bit annoying type to you at training. But maybe that was just because she was hanging around Katie, Beth and Kyra. But now she seemed a lot calmer, the opposite of annoying really.
Vic didn’t mention your absence which was nice, you didn’t really want to explain all of that to her. You didn’t expect to have a lot in common with the Dutch girl. She had a really warm presence and you loved every bit of it. Maybe all you needed was a friend here.
Victoria was waiting at the entrance of the training centre. “Buen día!” she waved. “I didn’t know you could speak Spanish.” you said. “I can’t but i’ve started my Duolingo streak Spanish since yesterday!” she smiled proudly. She made you so happy, she learned Spanish just for you. You were starting to feel thankful for Alexia’s advice.
“I guess i’ll have to learn Dutch now?” you laughed. She nodded her head and offered to learn you Dutch if you gave her some Spanish lessons. It seemed like a pretty good deal.
You started to spend a lot more time with the brunette. She was good company and you actually started to learn Dutch. You planned a trip to The Netherlands together. She would show you the city and her previous club, Ajax.
Everything was going better. You were in a better mental place and physically you were unstoppable. Jonas started to give you a place in the starting lineup almost every game and even the fans started to love you. You even got your very own chant. You were on top of the League and could not be held back any longer, you were finally thriving in London.
Alessia was the only problem keeping you from being fully happy. Even though you only saw her at practice and games she still was being bitter to you. Whenever you were talking to Victoria she took her away from you with some bad excuse. It was hard for you to feel at home in the changing room without Victoria around.
Naturally fans started to speculate about the two of you. They were saying that you were in a relationship with the midfielder and that you’ve been hiding it for a while now. Victoria was a good friend, your bestfriend but that was it. Nothing more. You hadn’t had those sort of feelings since Alessia and they still hadn’t totally gone away. It was shit to still have those feelings for someone who made it very clear she didn’t reciprocate those feelings. So you opted to ignore those feeling all together.
Victoria came over after practice to bake a pie for your upcoming birthday. She told you that she was an absolute pro in baking apple pie but you knew she was lying. No way that the girl that couldn’t even cook rice without burning it can bake an actual good pie.
And just like you had predicted the pie wasn’t really pie-ing. There was flour and cinnamon all over your kitchen and on both of your clothes. “Sukkel!” you shouted at her when she tipped her glass of water off the counter. But you started laughing when she slipped and fell right to the ground that was still covered in white flour.
“Fuck!” she cursed whilst you were trying to hold yourself up while laughing uncontrollably.
The night went by quickly like it always did with the midfielder.
Victoria has been the little light in your dark thoughts and you were so thankful for her but when you bid her goodnight you didn’t expect her to kiss you. She was stood in front of you, in a black hoodie with white spots on it from your kitchen adventure. Her cheeks were red from all the laughing and drinking. And she was leaning in to kiss you.
You didn’t stop her though. And you definitely didn’t stop her when you saw the door across from yours open. You didn’t stop her when blue eyes focused on the two of you. And you didn’t stop when you heard a door shut.
Victoria waved goodbye and you stood still, staring at the two plants placed on the ground in front of you. The ones you had gifted Alessia. They were dead. You were the only one that kept them alive and now they were dead. You failed them.

episode two: the weirdo on maple street
Trying to ease the awkwardness, you hold up a poster and offer it to them, but Steve snatches it from your grasp. “Henderson, didn’t know you were also a little know-it-all. Why don’t you share your review sheet with the rest of us?” He says, casting a teasing look your way. It isn’t until he inspects the piece of paper that he finally notices that it’s a missing poster for a child, not a review sheet. “Oh, shit. I’m so sorry.” You snatch the poster back from him. “You’re an idiot, Steve Harrington.”
Summary: you use your limited psych knowledge to help a bald girl, you force jonathan to accept $20 and he's later an ass to you, steve doesn't know what a "missing" poster looks like, and it's really hard being a single mother to now four kids.
Rating: general, but there's cursing as usual and steve being... well, steve - but hes still season 1 steve so give him some time
Warnings: cursing, fem!reader, use of y/n, and there's more angst in this chapter with some fighting between reader and jonathan, so fair warning.
Words: 10.1k (the longest thing ive ever written)
Before you swing in: i'm almost done with chapter 4, so here's a sweet treat as i cram for exams lmao. some housekeeping: should i do a tag list ? i got a few questions about it, so pls let me know soldiers. also, i feel the need to clarify that i adore nancy but for plot reasons - reader and her don't really get along (but they def will later, trust me). season 1 nancy and steve are just so silly. anyways, i hope y'all enjoy this loooong chapter. the rest definitely aren't as lengthy due to plot, but wow. i amazed myself. carry on !
-
Your jeans drip onto the Wheeler’s carpet, and you’ve definitely left a wet imprint on the couch cushion beneath you. The other boys are dripping as well, but all their attention is on the girl in front of them.
After finding her in the woods, your motherly instincts kicked in, immediately removing your coat to place on her and gently ushering her to your bike and demanding that the boys go back to Mike’s. Your mom is home, so your house was out of the question, and it’s always been easy sneaking into the Wheeler’s, anyways.
Once you all had made it back, you guided the girl onto the couch and sat next to her. You refuse to let her go too far from you, having no idea where she came from or why, but regardless you know she’s too young for any of it to have been good.
Which leads you to now: wearily watching the boys stare at the girl as if she’s some science experiment, asking her a million questions a second.
Bless them and their little prepubescent minds.
Lucas reaches out to touch her, and before you can nudge him away, Mike slaps at his hand. “Stop it! You’re freaking her out!”
“She’s freaking me out!” Lucas retaliates, which honestly? That’s fair. The girl hasn’t said anything yet, even after your multiple attempts to get her to do so. No matter how much you try, you can’t coax a response out of her.
“I bet she’s deaf.” Your brother offers, suddenly clapping his hands to scare her, making both you and her flinch. “Not deaf…”
You roll your eyes at him. “Guys, she’s probably just really scared right now. We should give her some space,” you look at both Lucas and Dustin, “and time,” now you look at Mike. The three boys deflate a bit.
“She’s probably cold,” Mike says after a moment of silence, and you nod at his suggestion. Seeing your agreement, he walks over to a basket of clothes and takes out some pajamas.
While Mike is away, thunder rumbles and the girl jumps, unconsciously getting closer to you. You wrap an arm around her reassuringly, making note that she doesn’t like loud noises. If anything, she’s showing more and more signs of trauma response, which makes you uneasy. You remember Hopper saying something about Will being in danger. What are the odds that this little girl was running from something as well?
“Here, these are clean.” Mike’s return breaks you from your thoughts, and you take the clothes from him and stand up. You thank him, then offer your hand to the girl. She looks at you uncertainly.
“It’s okay,” you reassure her. “Let’s go get you dressed in some warm clothes. I’m right here, sweetheart.”
“She’s super nice.” Dustin says, trying to help.
Lucas adds, “Yeah, you can trust her.”
“She’s alright.” Is all Mike offers.
You give them all an appreciative smile, even if Mike is being a bit of an ass, and then you feel a small, cold hand wrap around yours. The girl stands up, looking around shyly, and you lead her to the bathroom. When you go to close the door, she stops you.
Mike has followed, seeing the interaction. “You don’t want it closed?”
Her voice is quiet, solemn. “No,”
You and Mike look at each other, and he voices what you’re thinking. “So you can speak.”
He looks excited about this new information, and you shove his head out of the doorway. She needs to get dressed. “We’ll leave the door cracked, okay?”
She nods at you, and you stand guard outside the door. It’s not that you don’t trust the boys, but Mike has only known her for ten minutes and he’s already been nicer to her than you’ve ever seen him with anyone else. The only other person he’s this soft spoken to is Will, so you’re protective of her.
You can hear the boys discussing tonight’s events from the living area while the girl gets dressed. They sound scared, and a part of you can’t blame them. While you’re fairly certain that the girl isn’t dangerous, it’s still a creepy situation. Once again, Hopper’s new theory surrounding Will floats through your mind. This all can’t be some coincidence.
Sighing, you approach the boys and catch a bit of the conversation.
“Our houses become Alcatraz.” You hear Lucas saying, and you figure they’ve finally pieced together that there’s no way any of you can tell anyone about the girl. None of you were supposed to be out tonight. As much as you know you should tell an adult, you also need to be able to help Jonathan with finding Will. If your mom locks the house down, you’re doomed.
“Lucas is right,” the boys turn to you. “We can’t go to anyone about this just yet, but I also don’t think it’s a good idea to hide her. She’s been through something terrible, it’s obvious. Tonight, I say she gets some rest. We can figure out what to do later.”
Mike nods, for once agreeing wholeheartedly with you. “She’ll sleep here tonight-”
Dustin’s eyes widen in horror, “You’re letting a girl-”
You clamp your hand over his mouth, motioning for Mike to continue.
“Thanks, Y/N. In the morning, she sneaks around my house, goes to the front door and rings my doorbell. My mom will answer and know exactly what to do. She’ll send her back to Pennhurst,”
They think she’s from Pennhurst? You think, but don’t verbalize it.
“Or wherever she comes from. We’ll be totally in the clear! And tomorrow night, we go back out, and this time we find Will.”
You gotta hand it to Mike Wheeler, he may be a pain in the ass, but he’s a smart pain in the ass. The plan is pretty sound, so long as he follows through with it. However, it’s him following through with it that leaves you a bit unsure.
He looks at you for approval, and you hesitantly nod. “It’s a pretty good plan, Wheeler. So long as you stick to it.”
Lucas and Dustin nod along with you, there’s an unspoken sense of doubt that Mike will actually be able to turn the girl over to his mom. Then she walks out, dressed now in some of Nancy’s old clothes. She draws into herself when you all turn to her, shy. You walk over and offer your hand again, which she accepts.
“Mike, go find her something to sleep on. Dustin, we gotta go soon before mom notices we’re gone.”
Both boys comply, with Mike searching for a sleeping bag and Dustin packing up his stuff. You crouch down next to the girl, so that you’re face to face, and give her a warm smile. “It was lovely meeting you. My name is Y/N, I hope Mike over there doesn’t give you a hard time tonight.”
Mike flips you off, having heard you. “If he’s annoying,” you lean in close to her now, whispering in her ear. “You have my permission to pinch him.”
The girl giggles, finally relaxing a bit, and you warm with pride. She’ll be okay, she seems like a very resilient girl and you’ll oddly miss her.
The two other boys are waiting for you upstairs. You all wish Mrs. Wheeler a good night and head out. Thankfully the rain has now stopped, so the bike ride home isn’t bad. You stop at Lucas’ turn to make sure he gets home safely before finally arriving at your place. As Dustin begins pedaling into your driveway, you don’t follow.
“I’m going to go see Jonathan, he didn’t answer my calls earlier and I just…”
Dustin waves at you, not even bothering to turn around. “Yeah yeah, go see your boyfriend. If mom asks, you’re asleep.”
“He’s not my boyfriend-”
“Are you seriously going to argue with me after I offered to cover for you?”
Your brother gives you a pointed look, and you know he’s right. “Touché.”
Dustin goes to leave, but you quickly grab at his jacket. “Before I forget, swear to me that you’ll keep me updated if anything weird happens, okay?”
He nods at you, knowing better than to argue, and gives you a mock salute as he heads inside.
The living room light is on when you arrive at the Byers home, despite the late hour, but you aren’t surprised. You knock on the door and wait. When no one comes, you knock again, a bit louder this time. After another few moments, the door swings open.
Jonathan has a finger over his lips in a shushing manner, motioning to Joyce who is passed out on the couch. You nod, letting him know you understand. The two of you go to his room and when he closes the door, you finally get a good look at him. He looks worse than he did earlier, the bags under his eyes have somehow gotten darker. His hair is a mess, his eyes bloodshot.
“You’re soaked.” Jonathan says.
“Yeah,” he doesn’t want to talk about it yet, so you play along. “Got caught in the rain. Are some of my spare clothes still in your bottom drawer?”
He nods at you, going over and grabbing a t-shirt and pajama pants for you. You accept them gratefully and excuse yourself to the bathroom to change. Your bones are cold, the rain seemingly having penetrated the layers of your skin. In the mirror you see that your own eyes are bloodshot; you don’t look much better than Jonathan, really.
When you return Jonathan is sitting on his bed, so you join him. It’s silent between you, all you can hear is his breathing. You stare straight ahead, so does he, and you wait. You’ve only seen Jonathan like this a handful of times, where the stress and anxiety becomes too much for him. He shuts down, draws into himself, and all you can do is wait for him to return to you; he always does.
“Mom got a call tonight.” Jonathan’s voice is hoarse, and he looks frail. You wonder if he ever did end up making the spaghetti you prepared for him.
“Who was it?”
He swallows heavily, taking a moment to respond. “She said it was Will.”
“Will?” You look at him now, searching for any signs on his face, his voice lacks emotion. By the way he stares blankly ahead, as if he’s not really present with you right now, you know that it hadn’t been Will on the other end.
“She started freaking out, going ballistic,” his voice cracks a bit, so you take a chance and reach for his hand. He lets you take it, giving you a squeeze, before continuing. “She was screaming, begging whoever it was to give Will back.”
Jonathan pauses again. You don’t say anything, because no words will help. He’s never been the type for comforting words, anyways. He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes. “It wasn’t him. Lightning struck and our phone got charred. It wasn’t Will.”
Now it’s your turn to squeeze Jonathan’s hand. He doesn’t deserve any of this. None of the Byers do. Out of the entire town, they’re the family who deserves the most that life can give. Will, too good. Jonathan, too selfless. Joyce, too loving. They’re the best damn people you know.
“I tried calming her down, but she was hysterical. She’s only asleep right now because she worked herself up too much and passed out. I’m worried she-'' Jonathan shakes his head, as if ashamed by his own words. “I’m worried she’s going crazy, Y/N.”
He’s quiet again, but you can tell he’s about to break. His knee is now bouncing up and down and his breathing has become slightly ragged. Everything from today has been building up, it was only a matter of time before he snapped. You’re also worried about Joyce, a part of you skeptical to believe her, but the little girl you found tonight in the rain? Something was definitely weird about Will’s disappearance, but you’re hesitant to tell Jonathan just yet. For all you know, she could’ve simply been a girl who got lost and will be returned to her family tomorrow.
You don’t want to worry Jonathan any more than you need to.
“I should’ve been there for him. I shouldn’t have taken that shift.” He gasps out, and like a dam the tears begin to fall. You’re quick to pull him into a hug and he crumbles into you. His body shakes with violent sobs and he clutches at you as if afraid you’ll leave.
“You can’t blame yourself.” You whisper, stroking a hand through his hair. He cries even harder, the force of it almost enough to knock you over, so you situate yourself so that you’re fully on the bed, laying against his pillows, with Jonathan crying into your chest beside you.
“He’s g-gone.”
“We’ll find him, I promise.” Your own tears threaten to come out, but you force them down. You have to be here for him, he needs you. The only other time Jonathan has so openly cried was when Lonnie left years ago. He’s been holding everything in since then, all those years of looking after his family, taking care of his brother, getting harassed by assholes like Tommy Hagan.
Neither of you say anything else, and you know that Jonathan needs to let it all out. You soothe him as best as you can, running a hand through his hair, stroking his back, reassuring him over and over again that none of this is his fault until your own voice becomes hoarse. You don’t know how long you stay like this, but sometime during the night Jonathan finally falls asleep, and you follow shortly after him.
—
Sunlight streams through Jonathan’s spare bed sheet that he’s pinned over his window, serving as a makeshift curtain, waking you up. You stretch, careful not to wake the boy beside you, and crawl out of the bed. You’re antsy, already knowing that today will be another long day. After grabbing some clothes from your designated drawer and getting dressed, you head into the kitchen and start making a quick breakfast. Just as you’re finishing up, Jonathan comes out of his room, dressed and ready for the day.
Neither of you say anything about the night prior, instead silently working around each other in the kitchen with years of practiced ease. He hands you the salt shaker right when you need it, you grab the pieces of toast that he popped into the toaster, the two of you never once get in each other’s way. You get deja vu, remembering all the times you’ve slept over with Dustin, you and Jonathan making the boys breakfast while they slept in.
The only indication that last night really happened is a forehead kiss from Jonathan, his lips soft against your head. Out of the two of you, you’re definitely the touchy one, so it’s always a nice surprise when he initiates the touch, and his forehead kisses were a welcome rarity.
When the plates have been made, Joyce gets up from the couch and stumbles over to the table. You quickly help her sit down, and for the first time since Will’s disappearance you’re able to really look at her. She looks like Jonathan, only worse. The bags under her eyes are darker, her hair is more matted, and you believe she’s still wearing the same shirt you saw her in the night that Will went missing.
“All right, mom. Breakfast is ready.” Jonathan tries to place her plate on the table, but Joyce stops him, worried about the poster of Will.
Jonathan gives you a look and you run over to the table, grabbing the poster so that he can set the plate down.
Joyce gives you a tired smile, “Thank you, Y/N, but I can’t eat.”
“I just need you to eat, mom.”
“Jonathan’s right, Mrs. Byers. You need to eat, we gotta keep your strength up.” You feel like you’re talking to a child, but in a way, you suppose you are.
The woman lights a cigarette instead, and faintly you wonder how many she’s had within the last 48 hours; you’ll need to wash your clothes when you get home. She begins to ask Jonathan to go to Xerox to make as many copies of Will’s poster as possible. You sit down in front of her, silently eating, knowing there’s no place for you in this conversation.
It’s not that the Byers are ashamed that they have little money, but you know it’s rude to listen in. They make do with what they have, and Jonathan has never felt embarrassed with you knowing it.
“I don’t want you to go alone,” Joyce says, causing you to speak up.
“I’ll go with him and help hang them up, it’s no problem.”
Jonathan turns to you. “You have that chem test, remember? I’m not letting you miss that.”
“Shit…” you bury your face into your hands. You completely forgot about that after finding the little girl last night and dealing with Jonathan. You’ve heard about how impossible the chem exams were, and science has never been your best subject. That was Dustin’s thing, your thing was more humanities.
“You’re the smartest person I know, you’ll ace the exam,” Jonathan reassures you before turning to his mom. “And I’ll handle the posters, it’s okay.”
Joyce has been lost in thought during your conversation with her son, only beginning to speak again when she’s asked how many copies will be efficient. Once she starts speaking again, it’s almost like she’s physically unable to stop. She begins to ramble, finally exposing the crumbling woman that you’ve only heard about, now understanding Jonathan’s fears for her.
“Mom-”
“If we… ten cents-”
“Mom!” Jonathan raises his voice a bit, now grabbing at his mother’s hand. “You can’t get like this, okay?”
The look on Joyce’s face kills you. She looks so lost, ashamed of her behavior, and you cast your head down; this is a private matter. Joyce profusely apologizes to him and all Jonathan can do is gently reassure her that it’s okay. All of this is okay.
Their tender moment is interrupted by knocking on the front door, revealing Hopper on the other side. His presence makes you uneasy, so you stay in the kitchen and begin to clean up with Jonathan while Joyce attacks him with questions.
“A little bit of trust here, alright? We’ve been searching all night.” You hear the cop say. Your hand clenches the sponge, rubbing a bit harder at the plate you’re cleaning. If they’ve been searching all night, why are they here now?
“Went all the way to Cartersville.” Ever since Will disappeared, you’ve been building a wall of hope within you that he’ll be found safe and sound. However, with every passing day, with every new situation that occurs, you can feel a piece of the wall collapse. You can feel it now; the search party went all the way to Cartersville.
“And?” Joyce asks.
“Nothing.” The cry that Joyce lets out causes you to drop the plate you’ve been cleaning, shattering on the floor. You curse, immediately bending down to pick up the pieces. Luckily it didn’t shatter into a million bits, but you still feel horrible for breaking one of their dishes.
Jonathan bends down as well to help, and the commotion catches Hopper’s attention. He sees you scrambling to clean up the mess and sighs with annoyance. “Does she live here or something?”
You and Jonathan look at each other, a slight smile on your faces, and only respond to Hopper with a synchronized shrug. You basically do live at the Byers’ at this point, you have been for years now. It was the same for Jonathan: if you weren’t at his house, he was at yours.
Joyce wipes some of her tears away. “Y/N is family, she’s here to help.”
Hopper ignores this, instead bringing up the phone call from the night before. Joyce leads him over to the phone, and you join them once you’ve collected the remaining pieces of broken glass. When you see the phone, you can’t help but gasp. Jonathan’s words from last night are accurate, the phone is charred.
“Storm barbecued this pretty good.” Hopper says.
Joyce waves her arms out, disbelieving. “The storm? You’re saying that that’s not… weird?”
“No, it’s weird.” Hopper begins, but you cut him off.
“It’s really weird.”
He glares at you. You mumble a quick sorry and back away a bit while Jonathan asks if the call can be traced. Hopper focuses back on the situation at hand, informing him that it isn’t possible and then questions if Joyce even heard Will in the first place. The question makes you cringe, knowing it’ll only make Joyce more agitated and hurt.
“Flo said you just heard some breathing.”
It’s the way he phrases the question, the way he emphasizes the word “just”, that bothers you. This woman has just lost her kid, what kind of mother wouldn’t know her own child’s breathing?
“Even if it was ‘just’ some breathing, I’d know it was my brother. Will is her son, she’d know better than anyone.” You find yourself saying. The words weren’t meant to leave your mouth, but the appreciative look Joyce casts your way outweighs the fear from Hopper’s glare.
“It was him. It was Will, and he was scared. Then something-”
“It was probably just a prank call,” Hopper tries to reason with her, causing you to roll your eyes at him. You respect the guy, you do, but could he at least attempt to listen to Joyce?
You excuse yourself before you say anything else, heading back into the kitchen to collect the two posters you and Jonathan made. While the others talk, you grab his things and pack his bag for him. You know he’ll probably skip school today to get the copies done in time, maybe keep an eye on his mom, so you make a mental note to inform him later that you’ll help with putting the fliers up the second you’re done with the exam. He needs someone there for him.
When you’ve grabbed the last of Jonathan’s things, Lonnie’s name is mentioned. You freeze, standing right outside the hall from them, only a wall between you. If Lonnie is somehow involved in this, you’ll kill him yourself. He was always cruel to Will, even when you were around to witness it. You hate him more than anything in this damn world.
“It’s been long enough, I’m having him checked out.” Hopper declares, storming out of the house.
You count to three in your head, and the second you get to three, Jonathan is following after Hopper. You knew he would, hating his father the most out of everyone who has had the displeasure of meeting him. You follow behind him, heading outside to talk to the Chief.
“Hey, Hopper. Let me go.”
Hopper takes a drag from his cigarette, facing the two of you. “I’m sorry?”
“To Lonnie’s,” Jonathan says, looking at you for backup.
You do your best to try. “If Will’s there, that means he probably ran away. Cops will scare the poor boy, he’ll think he’s in trouble.”
“And he’ll hide. He’s good at hiding.” Jonathan finishes for you.
Hopper stares at you both, inhaling more smoke from his cigarette and blowing it in your direction with a curious look in his eyes. “You two are sickening to be near, you know that?”
You and Jonathan share an annoyed look. A kid is missing, and you still have to clarify that you aren’t together? “It’s not like that,” Jonathan says.
“Sure, you know cops are good at detecting lies,” Hopper approaches him now, grabbing his shoulders. For a brief second you’re afraid he’ll hurt him. “And we’re also good at finding, okay? Stay here with your mom. She needs you.”
Hopper punches at Jonathan’s shoulder before facing you. “And you,” you brace for whatever he’s about to say, knowing you probably aren’t his favorite person at the moment. He points at Jonathan, “He needs you.”
His words hang in the air several minutes after he’s gone. You glance at Jonathan, but he doesn’t meet your eye and instead he goes back inside. You sigh, following after him because it’s what you do. Hopper’s right, he needs you.
Jonathan’s in the living room, speaking softly to his mom when you enter. You don’t disturb them but rather snatch Jonathan’s keys from the counter and wait for him by the door. Like Joyce said, Xerox opens in about thirty minutes and you have a chem exam to take. If you leave now, you’ll be able to make the copies with him and be back in time before school.
The ride to Xerox is tense, you know Jonathan is upset that he’s been sidelined by Hopper. You also know that he’s torn between wanting to help his mom and staying out of his house as much as possible. If it weren’t for your god damn chem test you’d offer to skip and hide out at your place, but you can’t. Jonathan wouldn’t let you risk your future for him (even though you would, in a heartbeat, a million times over).
The man at Xerox gives Jonathan a look of pity, clearly recognizing Will’s picture on the poster. It’s your favorite photo of him, smiling with all his teeth and happy as can be. From what you’ve heard, the whole town has been conducting search parties for him. Jonathan ignores the look and asks for the 200 copies to be made.
It’s just you and him in the store as you wait for the prints to be done. The guy said it’d be about a ten minute wait so you wander around the store. Jonathan clearly is in a no talking mood, so you occupy yourself with whatever you find. You wish you’d brought your backpack to Jonathan’s last night so you could at least study a bit while waiting, but you didn’t. It’d be a miracle if you pass this exam.
Jonathan wanders around as well, so you give a quick look around and find the employee. He’s standing over the printer when you approach. “I’d like to pay for the copies, please.”
“You can pay after they’re done-”
“No, I can’t let him see,” you point over to Jonathan, who is now looking at some stationary. “Please, just let me pay now so he can yell at me later.”
The guy gives you a shrug, clearly not getting paid enough to care. “Okay, it’ll be $20. Just leave the money on the counter over there, the prints should be done soon.”
You nod and do as you’re told, leaving the $20 bill on the counter while Jonathan isn’t looking. He can kill you later, right now you want to make up for not being able to help with hanging them up. There’s literally hundreds to get through, he can’t do that all alone.
When the posters are done and Jonathan collects them, you wish the worker a good day and then wrap your arms around him and use all your strength to drag your friend into the car. He doesn't fight back at first, too confused by your actions, and you’re almost out the door before he sees the man pocket the money and wave at you. The dots connect in his head and Jonathan begins to fight against you.
“Y/N, let me pay-”
“Nope. Not happening!”
“We both know I’m stronger-”
“Debatable, honestly, seeing as how we’re almost to your car.”
“Let go!” He tugs harshly as his arm, which you’ve got a secure hold on, causing you to stumble a bit.
You plant your feet more firmly against the ground and use all your weight to pull the boy forward. You’re a few feet away from the car, just one more solid pull should do the trick. “Stop fighting this, Byers. I’ve already paid-”
“Which you shouldn’t have!”
“Keep fighting and drop all the posters, I dare you.”
Jonathan looks down at the posters in his spare hand, realizing that you’re right. If he doesn’t give in soon, they’ll topple over. He lets out an agitated groan, throwing his head back, and then marches over to the car to unlock it and fling himself into the driver’s seat. “Just get in.”
You do a small victory dance and hop in the car.
“I hate you.”
“You love me.”
He hesitates only for a moment. “God, I hate that I do.”
You smile, buckling your seatbelt. Jonathan pulls out of the parking lot and begins the drive to school. He’s less tense this time, at least. The small little wrestling match between the two of you seemingly did some good, then.
When you pull up to school, you once again apologize to Jonathan for being unable to help. He waves you off, understanding.
“It’s okay, I promise. I can’t have you failing out of high school because of me.”
You roll your eyes. “One test won’t make me become a high school dropout, Jonathan.”
He ruffles your hair, which you slap him for. “You can join me after, okay? Good luck, bug.”
“Fine, but I’m taking some posters with me so I can hang up on my way to my locker.”
“Deal.”
You run to your locker, flinging it open and letting out a sigh of relief when you spot your chem cards. Honestly, you really should’ve prepared better for your little sleepover at the Byers. You glance at the watch on your wrist, noting that you have roughly fifteen minutes to memorize all the elements in the periodic table as well as some chemistry definitions.
Just peachy.
You tie your hair up so you can focus better and grab the note cards. If you review the cards as you walk to class, you can save at least three minutes of studying time. You tuck the few remaining posters of Will under your arm and begin to head to your class, getting absorbed in all the elements and words. As you’re skimming a card about protein being K, you run into Nancy and Barb, who also seem to have the same idea as you.
“Oh, hey Y/N.” Nancy greets you, Barb waving to you as well.
They’re being nice, so you try to make conversation. “Studying for Kaminsky’s test?”
They nod at you and Nancy sighs, “Yeah, his exams are the worst.”
You laugh a bit, for once on the same page as her. “I know. I spent last night at Jonathan’s, I completely forgot about the test until this morning. I’m screwed.”
Barb raises her eyebrows at you while Nancy suddenly looks sad. “Oh, I’m sorry about Will. I know you and him are close.”
“Yeah, it must be hard taking care of Jonathan right now.” Barb voices.
You give them both an awkward smile. “Thanks, I guess? It’s just, there’s still hope, so…”
The three of you stand there as your voice trails off. It’s painfully awkward. While you’ve known Nancy since you were 12, and at some point you even called her a close friend of yours, the second you entered high school she became distant. You never blamed her for it, people simply grow up and grow apart. Now you only ever interact with her if it concerns the boys.
Trying to ease the awkwardness, you hold up a poster and offer it to them, but Steve snatches it from your grasp.
“Henderson, didn’t know you were also a little know-it-all. Why don’t you share your cheat sheet with the rest of us?” He says, casting a teasing look your way. It isn’t until he inspects the piece of paper that he finally notices that it’s a missing poster for a child, not a review sheet. “Oh, shit. I’m so sorry.”
You snatch the poster back from him. “You’re an idiot, Steve Harrington.”
His friends laugh, but Steve has a bit of heart to look guilty, so you count that as something. His shame doesn’t last long though and the goofy and sweet boy who made sure you were okay after almost hitting you with his car is gone.
Steve plays off the situation as if it were nothing. “Let me make it up to you, Henderson. I know you’re probably stressed out of your mind dealing with boyfriend troubles because of Bill-”
“His name is Will,” you grit out, remembering now why you dislike Steve so much. Everything was about impressing his friends, and while you can sympathize with him, it doesn’t give him an excuse to be an asshole.
“Right, Will. Anyways, I was just about to inform Nance over here that my dad has left town on a conference and my mom’s gone with him, ‘cause, ya know, she doesn’t trust him.”
“Good call,” Tommy says, and you glare at him.
Steve carries on. “So, are you guys in?”
“In for what?” Nancy asks.
“No parents, a big house?” Carol says, as if Nancy is a giant idiot.
You feel bad for her being treated so poorly by her boyfriend’s friends, so you lean in and whisper, “A party, Nancy.” Then you look at Steve. “And no, I’ll pass.”
Steve pouts. “Can’t leave loverboy alone for a couple hours?”
You scoff, shoving the poster against his chest, using more force than probably necessary, but the satisfying grunt he lets out pleases you. “If I didn’t know you I’d say you sound jealous. Unfortunately, I do know you, and that’s exactly why I’m not interested.”
“Meow,” says Carol as she and Tommy laugh.
You ignore her and push past the group to get to class. You’ve wasted enough time, you have to study. Steve lets you, hurt by your words, but tries to play it off, instead focusing his attention on Jonathan up ahead hanging up some posters. You both see him at the same time and as you start to approach him, you hear Steve and his group mock him.
“God, that’s depressing.” Steve says, and you’ve never wanted to hit a man more than you do right now.
You glance at Nancy, trying to convey your disappointment in her. She’s a nice girl, she shouldn’t be with an idiot like Harrington. Who the hell makes fun of a guy with a missing brother? Nancy doesn’t meet your eye, which pleases you. She should feel guilty.
As you near Jonathan, Nancy calls after you to wait up. You listen, mostly because you’re surprised she even followed, and together you walk up to him. “Hey, bee. I thought you’d be long gone by now.”
Jonathan looks up at your voice, surprised when he sees Nancy next to you. He gives you a look that you conclude is a what is she doing here? look and you can only shrug as if to say I have no clue how I ended up in this situation.
Nancy doesn’t see this exchange. “Hey,”
“Hey,” Jonathan responds, still confused.
Nancy looks at you uncertainly, but you refuse to leave. Screw your exam, if she even considers voicing her boyfriend’s opinions to Jonathan then you’ll personally see that she fails alongside you. “I just… I wanted to say, you know… I’m sorry, about everything.”
Oh, she’s being nice. You’re still unimpressed, but Jonathan motions to you to stop staring her down, so you reluctantly listen.
“Everyone’s thinking about you.”
You all turn towards Steve and his group, who are clearly listening in, and you snort at her words. “Right, obviously.”
“Y/N.” Jonathan warns.
“Sorry.”
“It sucks.” Nancy continues, and you have to give her some credit. You’re being a blatant bitch, but she’s still trying. You feel a bit bad now, which honestly makes you dislike her a bit more. Damn morals. “I’m sure he’ll be fine, he’s a smart kid.”
The bell rings, ending Nancy’s little monologue. “I have to go, chemistry test. Y/N, want to walk together?”
She really makes it impossible to be a bitch to her. “Sure, just give me a second.”
You lean close to Jonathan and lower your voice. “Good luck with your dad, bee.”
“How did you know I’d go-”
“Because of course you would. Now go, give him hell for me, will ya?”
Jonathan nods, relieved you aren’t pushing the topic. You know that Lonnie is a sore topic for him, for the entire Byers family, really. You only knew Lonnie for a year or so before Joyce left him, but you’ll never forget his spiteful words and the bruises that Jonathan tried to hide from you. He needs to do this alone, father and son.
You see Nancy watching, and just to spite her you kiss Jonathan’s cheek, relishing in the fact that she looks away, and you wish him luck once again before following her to class.
The test isn’t as bad as you’d feared, and the rest of the day goes by with relative ease. You don’t see much of Steve and his group and you’re thankful for that. Nancy also keeps her distance, no longer attempting to be all buddy buddy with you. A part of you feels bad about that, because honestly the thought of someone thinking you hate them makes you feel physically ill, but as long as Nancy is with someone like Steve, there’s not much you can do about that.
After school you stop by all of Jonathan’s classes and collect the work he’s missed over the last few days; he has enough to worry about, so you figured you could help do some assignments for him. It’s nothing unusual, truth to be told. There was a time you were out for two weeks straight due to the flu one year and Jonathan did every one of your assignments, so it’s about time you returned the favor.
Once you have what you need, you hang up the remaining flyers in your bag and begin your journey to work. You’ve used up all of your sick days helping the Byers, and while Mrs. Waters has insisted on letting you have more time off, you figured the distraction would be good for you. Jonathan will want some space after confronting his dad, and as much as you hated Lonnie, something told you he had nothing to do with Will.
Just when your shift is almost done, your coworker, this young kid named Alex who you’re honestly surprised can legally work, informs you that your mom is on the phone and wants to speak with you. You stack the remaining books in your hands and thank him, walking over to pick up the call.
“Hey, mom. Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine, sweetie! I was just calling to tell ya that Dusty is at the Wheeler’s tonight for dinner, so my plan for ribs won’t work without him. I was wondering if darling Johnny could feed you tonight? I know the two of you have that little sneaky food game.”
Your posture, once slumped over and uninterested, now straightens out. Why the hell is Dustin having dinner at the Wheeler’s? They never do that. “Uh, sure mom that won’t be an issue.”
Your mom lets out a sigh of relief. “Bless that Jonathan! I’ve always liked him…”
Your mom may be the biggest Jonathan supporter you’ve ever met. “Yeah, he’s your favorite. I know,” you shift a bit to catch Alex’s attention, mouthing to him that you need to leave work early. “Hey, did Dustin by chance say how long he’ll be at the Wheeler’s? I can swing by and pick him up after my shift.”
“Oh, I think he’s staying the night there. He mentioned something about Mike not finishing his part of their little science project?”
They’re calling the little girl a science project now? Boys are so typical. “Oh, I see. Well, I gotta get back to work, mom. I’ll be home late tonight.”
Your mom wishes you goodbye and warns you not to be out too late. You hum, already trying to figure out the quickest route to the Wheeler’s house. You can’t say you’re surprised that Mike didn’t follow the plan, but you also can’t say you were prepared for this either.
Alex comes back with your boss and you quickly make up a lie about not feeling well. Mrs. Waters gives you a pitying look and tells you to go. You’re incredibly grateful for her, she’s like a grandmother to you and has always been so kind.
You quickly bike to Mike’s house, going over a grand speech in your head for the boys. Logistically speaking, you’re not sure if they can even harbor the little girl in his basement. Would it be kidnapping? Could kids even kidnap other kids? You aren’t sure and you definitely aren’t willing to find out.
You arrive at the house just as Nancy and Barb are pulling out of the driveway, presumably to Steve’s grand house party. They wave at you awkwardly and you don’t have it in you to wave back. You park your bike next to their doorstep and knock on the door.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” Mrs. Wheeler asks after opening the door.
“Oh, I was just wondering if I could hang out with the boys tonight? Jonathan’s busy and I promised Dustin I’d help with their campaign.”
Mrs. Wheeler cocks her head at you. “But I thought there was a special assembly at the school for Will? Nancy and Barb just left for it.”
You feel your blood boil a bit. There was no assembly for Will at your school, and it was really damn low of Nancy to use his disappearance as a cover story for her stupid party. She’s known Will since he was practically a baby. You have no idea how someone could be so unaffected by a missing child, let alone one who has been at your house every damn weekend for years now.
“Oh, that!” You force yourself to remain calm; there isn’t time to snitch on Nancy, Mrs. Wheeler would only have more questions for you. “Yeah, I’m, uh, skipping it. Jonathan doesn’t want to go, so after he’s back from his errands I’m heading over to his place to, you know, comfort him?”
The woman stares at you for a second, trying to determine if there are any lies to your words. You’ve never been the best liar, but being the oldest Henderson child has unfortunately prepared you for being quick on your feet when needed.
“Well, come on then. They boys just went downstairs, and if you can please remind them to bring the plate of food back up here I’d really appreciate it.”
You thank Mrs. Wheeler and let yourself in. Her words have all but solidified your suspicions: Mike kept the girl.
When you descend the basement steps, it’s almost comical how the kids scramble to hide the girl like little cockroaches. They run around and Dustin screams something about covering her before the poor girl is being manhandled into a sheet as Mike screams at Lucas and Dustin to calm down.
“Guys! It’s just me! Jesus!” You shout, shoving past Mike to rush over to the girl and free her from the sheets. She looks more frightened than usual, but at least she’s alive.
“God, why am I always the one you push?”
You shush Mike, smoothing back the girl’s hair and offering her a reassuring smile. “Remember me, sweetheart?”
The girl nods and softly says, “Y/N.”
“Very good. I’m going to scream at my brother real quick, so why don’t you cover your ears for me so you don’t get too frightened?”
“Wait, what-”
The minute her ears are covered, you turn to Dustin and begin screaming. “Are you brain dead and not understand the words ‘tell me if anything weird happens’ or do you simply lack the appropriate empathy needed for a concerned sister?”
Dustin ducks his head in shame. “Y/N, look-”
“No! I’m all for helping you guys with your adventures and whatever, but Will went missing and then she appears and Mike,” you turn to him and he hides behind a frightened Lucas. “You said you’d stick to your plan. Now tell me, did you?”
Mike shakes his head, his eyes wide. Dustin looks no better as he cowers behind the others. Lucas simply shrugs, knowing that this would happen. You never, ever, yell at the boys; the few times you have in the past, all hell had broken loose.
“Y/N-”
“Zip it, Henderson. I’m so pissed off at you right now and if you want to make it to thirteen I suggest you keep quiet.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Good. Now, why don’t you guys catch me up on what you’ve so sweetly kept hidden from me.” It’s worded as a question, but the boys know better than to deny you.
You sit on the ground so that you’re next to the girl and then motion for the three boys in front of you to start speaking. They look at Mike, giving him a nudge, and he hesitantly steps forward to begin speaking. “Her name is El.”
The girl, El, looks up at you and smiles. You return the smile and knock your shoulder against hers in a playful manner. “Nice to meet you, can I ask what El is short for?”
“Eleven,” she says, and you want to question the name further but the look on Mike’s face stops you. Now is not the time, you guess.
“El, she’s… different.” Mike continues, looking around nervously. He’s acting as if someone could break in any second and snipe you guys, and a part of you doesn’t doubt it can happen. “She has these powers, like, mind control powers.”
You snort, unable to stop yourself. El looks at you, looking unoffended, seemingly expecting this reaction. However, Mike groans at you. “Y/N, this is serious. She-she knows about Will.”
At this, your smile fades and you feel an overwhelming sense of hope take over you. You find your arms wrapping around El before you can control yourself and you give her a tight hug. She stiffens in your arms and you immediately pull away. “I’m sorry, I just… sorry.”
She laughs a bit, softly saying that it’s okay.
“Do you really know Will? Where he is?” You ask, almost too scared to say the words out loud. If she’s telling the truth… you shake your head in an attempt to dispel any false hope. You don’t know this girl, she could be lying.
Before El can say anything else, Mike speaks for her. “She does, but there’s bad men out there who want to hurt her. I think they’re after Will, too.”
You freeze. “Bad men?”
“Yes, this is why we didn’t want to tell you!”
“I wanted to tell her,” Lucas says, which causes Mike to glare at him.
You wave your arms at the two boys, breaking up their fight. “Mike, what do you mean by bad men? Honey,” you look at El, “did someone hurt you? Are you in danger? Should I call the police?”
“No!” All three boys shout at once.
You look at them, at the genuine fear in their eyes, and sigh, “Okay, if you can give me a good reason not to call the cops, I won’t.”
“Did you not hear the part about El having powers?” Dustin asks.
“Gee, Dustin. You’re right! It’s like her having powers is totally believable and reassuring to the situation at hand!”
“I can show you,” El speaks up.
You all face her now. “You can?”
She nods at you, getting up and grabbing your backpack that you threw on the ground when you walked in. She rustles through it while you and the boys look at one another. After a few seconds, El grabs one of your comic books and places it on the table. She looks at you and tilts her head, indicating for you to sit down next to her; you do as you’re told.
El straightens out your comic and then closes her eyes, going completely still. The air around you shifts and you can practically feel the static electricity encasing you; the hair on your arms stand up. The pages of the comic begin to flick up, fluttering as if someone is thumbing through them in rapid succession. You watch as the Spidey panels flash before your eyes, the pages flying faster and faster until it becomes almost frightening to be near. Then, once it gets to its last page, the comic flies up into the air and hovers for a few seconds, right in front of your face.
“Holy shit,” you breathe out, your eyes wide.
Just as quickly as it began, the comic drops back onto the table. You look up at El and see that her nose is now bleeding, which rips you back to reality. The chair scrapes against the ground as you get up to help her, dabbing at the blood with a tissue that had been laying on the table.
“Do you believe us now?” Mike asks, a smug look on his face.
You gently wipe away the remaining blood from El’s face, looking her in the eye and directing your words to her. “I’m listening, sweetheart. What can you do to help us find Will?”
El smiles, pleased to have earned your trust, and you get the feeling that this little girl is the most powerful thing in all of Hawkins, maybe even the world. At her request, Mike places his DnD board on the table and arranges the pieces for El to use. She sits down and closes her eyes once more.
Lucas gives you a doubtful look. “What’s the weirdo doing?”
You flick his head, not enjoying the name calling. Honestly, you thought you raised these boys better than that.
El seems to accomplish whatever she was doing and picks up the wizard piece, murmuring, “Will.”
You feel your heart stop. Will always insisted on being the wizard whenever they played the game. He was Will the Wise, forever and always. El couldn’t have simply guessed that, and you know it’s her-
“Superpowers,” Dustin finishes your thought for you. The two of you exchange a glance and you notice the slight glee in his eyes. Under different circumstances, you’d also find this all pretty cool.
Mike sits next to El and begins to ask some questions about where she last saw Will. She gives him a look that you can’t quite decipher before swiping her arm across the table and spilling the pieces onto the floor. She then flips the board over, having it now face upside down, and places Will’s piece back down.
You knit your brows together, trying to follow along. El’s movements are methodical and carefully planned, being unable to find the right words due to her poor speech, and you try to piece together the information you’ve been given.
“I don’t understand,” Mike says, being extra gentle with El. You’ve never seen him so soft spoken before and you’re grateful at least one of the boys doesn’t view her as some monster. Which reminds you that you need to have a conversation with Dustin about respecting women, but for now you’ll hold off.
“Hiding.” says El.
He’s good at hiding, Jonathan’s words echo in your head.
“Will is hiding?”
El nods, now looking more nervous. You can tell that Mike is getting closer to information that she doesn’t want him near, which finally causes you to ask the question that’s been heavily on your mind. “From the bad men?”
Now El gives a slight shake of the head, and Mike presses on. “Then from who?”
Without saying anything, El places a second piece onto the board right in front of Will’s. It’s a piece you’re unfamiliar with, with two snake-like heads that loom over the small wizard piece. Whatever it is, you know it isn’t good judging the way Mike, Dustin, and Lucas look at each other in fear.
You turn to Dustin and whisper, “What’s that piece?”
Your brother puts his hands behind his head and sighs deeply, a new resigned look on his face. He looks as if he’s just aged thirty years, which you find a bit dramatic. “It’s the Demogorgon.”
“The Demo-what?” The name sounds familiar, but you can’t remember anything about it.
Mike looks at you and for once his voice holds no annoyance when he says, “There’s a lot we still have to catch you up on.”
–
Your head is spinning as you bike to Jonathan’s with all the new information you’ve just received. Demogorgons, magical vortexes, kids with damn superpowers. It’s all a lot for you to take in, and while you fully believe that El is something entirely different from a normal little girl, how can you be sure that it’s connected to Will? While his disappearance still confuses you, it’s illogical to jump to supernatural conclusions.
Dustin had begged you to let him spend the night at Mikes in order to keep talking to El, and you only agreed because you figured you’d be at Jonathan’s again tonight anyways. He’s been MIA all day and you’re worried as usual, but you made him and Mike swear to you that they’d stay put in the house. At least this way they’re in one place, so if they screw around they’ll be easier to find.
When you arrive at the Byers home you notice that Jonathan’s car isn’t in the driveway, which only confuses you further. Where the hell is he? You gave him all day to deal with Lonnie and cool off, trusting that he wouldn’t do anything stupid for twelve hours, and yet…
You fear he’s done something stupid.
You don’t have time to think too much about Jonathan’s absence because a frantic Joyce runs out the door screaming. She runs straight past you and into her car, and the house begins to light up like a Christmas tree. You can hear The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go, a song that Will once had on repeat for three weeks straight, and you can feel the same static electricity in the air that you felt when El used her powers in front of you.
Joyce suddenly gets out of the car and spots you, pointing towards her house. “You see that too?”
You swallow. “Yeah,”
She nods, as if your confirmation is all she needs to determine her sanity, and then marches inside. You stand in the yard, motionless. You’re terrified, and after learning about El tonight, you don’t have it in you to discover any other supernatural beings in Hawkins at the moment. Sighing, you follow after the woman because Jonathan isn’t home and someone needs to talk her down from whatever panic attack the flashing lights have inevitably caused.
“Mrs. Byers-”
“Y/N, you can’t tell me there isn’t something,” Joyce waves her hands in front of her face, almost grasping at the air, “weird about all of this. That was Will’s song, the lights were flashing in Will’s room, something came out of Will’s wall-”
“Something came out of his wall?”
“Yes! I’m not… I promise I’m not crazy, okay? You saw it, please tell me you saw it.”
You bite your lip, now thinking about El. You swore to Mike you wouldn’t tell anyone about her, and honestly you’re not sure that you should tell Joyce about her right now. You’re still unsure if El is being honest with you, and you can’t just give the woman false hope for her son. It’d kill you if you were wrong about El. But seeing the lights, hearing the music, the thing in the wall… There’s something that she’s not telling you.
“Mrs. Byers… I’m not quite sure what I saw, but we just had a bad storm and it could be faulty wiring.”
Joyce slumps her shoulders, frustrated that you aren’t conspiring with her. You just… you can’t. Not yet. Not before you figure out what the hell El is doing in Hawkins. You refuse to worsen Joyce’s already chronic anxiety and paranoia; Jonathan would never forgive you if you fed into her delusions, but it kills you to lie to her.
“Look, I do think that something is weird about this entire situation, “ Joyce’s face lights up, but you’re quick to add, “however, there’s no proof. You, I mean-Mrs. Byers, you’ve seen things in the past. You’re stressed, and anxious, and all the other synonyms.”
The woman lets a few tears drop from her eyes, now embarrassed. “Maybe you’re right. I-I’m sorry, honey. I just-”
You grab her hand. “I know,”
Her smile is brittle, a ghost of the once beautiful smile she’d give you, and your heart breaks for her.
After your conversation, Joyce excuses herself to her room. She looks even more exhausted than before, so you leave her alone and hole yourself up in Jonathan’s room.
You glance at your watch and note the late hour; you’re starting to worry now. Jonathan didn’t mention anything besides Lonnie and the posters, so you don’t know what else he could be doing so late. He wouldn’t go searching for Will without you.
You wake up to Jonathan returning an hour or so later, apparently having fallen asleep while waiting for him.
“Y/N?” His voice is gruff and surprised.
You groan and rub your eyes. “Turn the light off, bee.”
He doesn’t. “What are you doing here?”
The tone of his voice wakes you up a bit, making you sit up and look at him more clearly. His shoulders are tense, his eyes are hiding something, and his overall demeanor is hard to read. “I had something to tell you, but is everything okay?”
“You couldn't have waited until tomorrow? Y/N, this is my house, just… just get out.”
“I’m sorry?” You’re confused by his behavior, now starting to become a bit defensive and hurt by his dismissal.
“You can’t just let yourself in whenever you please.” Jonathan puts his camera on his desk, still refusing to meet your eyes.
“Jonathan, we literally have always let ourselves into each other’s houses whenever we please.”
He rolls his eyes at you and rips off his jacket, throwing it at you. “Get out!”
You catch the jacket before it hits you in the face. “What the hell, Jonathan!”
“Listen, I get that you think you’re a part of the family, but you’re not. You’ve been here for days now, it’s getting old.”
His words cut through you and leave vicious wounds against your skin. He doesn’t mean that, he can’t mean that. You and him were family. He’s never, ever insinuated anything less. He wouldn’t dare. Your Jonathan would never act like this to you, and the only time he’s ever been this cruel to you was when he accidentally dropped Lonnie’s last beer in the fridge and was too embarrassed and ashamed to ask for help; he’d shown up with bruises later that night.
Then it hits you. He did something, something that makes him feel guilty; he keeps glancing at his camera. You soften your voice, “Bee, what did you do?”
He whips around, now yelling. “Nothing! Just get the hell out of my house! It’s getting pathetic!”
You swallow back the angry tears that build in your throat. Fine. Whatever. Let him be a raging bitch after everything you’ve done for him these last few days.
“Fine, I will.” Grabbing your backpack you snatch the assignments you were supposed to give Jonathan and slam them against his chest. “Here’s all your fucking assignments, by the way.”
He seems to come back to himself, blinking away the anger and shame. “Bug…”
“You don’t get to call me that.” And with that, you don’t spare Jonathan another glance.
–
When you get home, the house is eerily quiet. Dustin is at Mike’s and your mom leaves you a note saying that she’s spending the night at your aunt’s. Great. Looks like it’s just you and Mews tonight then.
After everything that’s happened tonight, you never found time to eat dinner, and your stomach is loudly growling. You drop your stuff in your room and then reheat some leftovers, feeling like a pathetic child. You know that Jonathan didn’t mean what he said, but the words had come too easily to him to have just been a way to dodge his guilt. There had been some truth to them. Maybe you were pathetic for always fretting over him.
Dinner is quiet tonight.
You wait for the phone to ring, for Jonathan to call you and apologize, but the call never comes.
You’ve never felt so alone before.

bandmates pt. 7 !
pairings: bassist!ellie williams x fem!reader
summary: it’s been a couple of weeks and you and ellie were officially together but ellie has been acting suspicious and it feels like you're together only behind closed doors.
warnings: angst angst angst (sorry !!), cussing, slight smut, use of y/n
a/n: i am trying my best to be back and write, ive been in the process of moving and i just got in the mindset to write!! I had a plan for this and then stopped writing this for a while so this series will have more than just a couple of chapters left, i'm not sure yet!! anyways good to be back hope you enjoy!!
you and ellie were doing fine, great even! but only in your guys' room. you have been so happy the past few weeks, but it was starting to feel a little off. you didn't think much of it but that still didn't stop that small anxious pit in your stomach from forming. you liked ellie so much and was so happy this was finally reality that you didn't see the red flags ahead of time.
"do we really have to go to this stupid get together?" ellie whined and you giggled.
"yes unfortunately we do, speaking of which we need to get up really soon to get ready." ellie groaned and turned away from you and got out of bed. she walked over to her closet while pouting and grabbed some clothes considering we were only in underwear....
you sat up and grabbed an outfit from your closet. ellie came up from behind you and kissed your cheek and made her way down to your neck. you giggled and squished her face in your neck, you tried to push her away, but she fought against your small weak nudges.
"ellie we can't, we have to go dina and jesse really want us there to meet these people."
"we could be late." she said in that sultry voice she puts on. you felt a shiver down your spine and so badly wanted to fall for it but you knew how much this meant to dina and didn't want to let her down.
"no els we gotta go i don't want to let dina down." you laughed as she kept kissing you neck and reaching down you back. she turned you around and kissed your lips, you melted into her mouth and couldn't resist the urge to just go for yet another round of the day, but you fought back and slowly pulled away. you gave her that look a sad puppy dog would give and she groaned and then smiled at you.
"ugh fine, only because you're cute and i love you." you let out a small gasp, ellie hadn't said i love you yet. a small smile made it to your face and she smiled back.
"i love you too." you smiled at each other and kissed again, you both went on and got ready for the get together.
----
you two were sitting on the couch together next to dina and jesse at someone's house you didn't know, you just wanted to be home with ellie. the air felt super awkward and ellie felt a little distant. you didn't think much of that until you all introduced yourselves.
"this is ellie and y/n!" dina introduced us to everyone else and they all collectively said hello.
"how did you all meet?" one of the girls asked and ellie answered.
"y/n and i have been friends since before we could remember and met dina and jesse in high school band class. we all became really good friends and formed our band, coastal."
"that's really cool, you guys all seem so close is it just dina and jesse together? some girl asked while making flirty eyes with ellie.
"yeah it is, me and y/n are best friends and i wouldn't have it any other way." your face shifted and you gently whipped your head towards ellie in a questioning way, she was already looking at the girl with that same flirty look and you turned away and excused yourself to the bathroom. dina noticed your change in behavior and decided to follow after you. you quickly made your way to the bathroom before dina could make it in and you closed the door in front of her face.
"babes are you okay? what happened?" you tuned her questions out and your mind drifted. you could tell something was wrong, you knew it felt weird that you two weren't going on dates or that she acted different outside of the dorm. you saw all the red flags but was too oblivious to see what was going on. your eyes slowly filled with tears and you didn't even realize you were crying until you snapped back into reality and heard dina bang on the door.
"hey, are you okay what's going on??" you turned and opened the door, dina gasped and pushed her way into the room seeing your state.
'what's going on, talk to me." she held your face and wiped your tears, you felt so overwhelmed with emotions and couldn't make out the words so you said.
"ellie is an asshole." she looked at you saddened and nodded her head saying i know, she grabbed you and pulled you into her. you silently cried into the crook of her neck and just felt so angry. you were mad at yourself for thinking this was going to work. you didn't want to cry anymore about it so you gently pulled away and turned to the faucet and wiped your face down of the mascara streaks. dina helped you pull yourself together and you both made your way back into the living room. everyone was preoccupied with mario kart on the tv and didn't even notice you two coming back. you sat down on the couch next to jesse and dina occupied the spot next to ellie. she turned over and looked at you and nodded her head asking if you were okay. you looked away and dina pushed her head towards the tv and diverted her attention away from you.
for the rest of the time you guys were there you sat on the couch with your back against the cushion and your head slouched. dina tried her best to stop ellie from talking to you and left you alone till you guys left.
----
when you guys were getting ready to leave you all said your goodbyes and you saw ellie and that girl exchange numbers, you felt sick to your stomach and didn't want to face her in the car. you turned away and walked out of the house without anyone, you guys weren't to far from the dorm so you just decided to walk on your own.
as you walked you made it to the gas station right by the school so you stopped for a slushy. you walked in and grabbed the biggest size, you needed this. you also grabbed some ice cream and made your way out. you sat on the curb for a little and pulled out your phone to a million notifications.
40 texts from ellie, 20 missed calls from dina, it all felt too much. so you texted dina and said you were fine and just decided to walk home. dina proceeded to cuss you out in your texts and raved about how dangerous that was for you to walk alone by yourself. you rolled your eyes and got up from the curb and walked to rest of the way towards the campus.
you found your way back and checked their locations to see they were home so you just knocked on the door. ellie answered and quickly let you in. you made your way to your shared room and grabbed some clothes.
"hey what happened back there?" she quietly asked and you rolled your eyes. you made your way to the shower but not before ellie squeezed her way through the door.
"bee what's wrong?" she grabbed your arm and you felt sick, you pushed her away and started to take your makeup off before your shower. she put her hand back on you and you pushed her away again getting frustrated now.
"why do you keep pushing me away, what happened back there?" you pushed her away hard and felt that tickle in your throat. you grumbled and said wouldn't you like to know under your breath, but it wasn't very quiet, so she heard.
"what do you mean? i would like to know. what's up with you?"
"i don't know ellie you tell me."
"I don't know y/n that's why i'm asking." you rolled your eyes starting to get more frustrated with her.
"maybe it was the fact that you just called me your friend and not your girlfriend?? i guess i missed something but i thought us having sex all the time and calling each other girlfriends meant just friends."
"i just called you best friend it isn't a big deal i'm sorry." she didn't sound sorry.
"it's a big deal to me ellie."
"well, i'm sorry." she shrugged and you scoffed at her nonchalant movement.
“i really don’t want to deal with this can you please leave i want to shower.” she didn’t pick up a fight and left. you sighed and wiped your face from any left over tears. you made your way into the shower and let the warm water help you forget about your thoughts for just one second.
————
a/n: i’m sorry this was short !! it was more of a filler before we get into some good angst and drama!! chapter 8 and possibly 9 will be out tomorrow!!

stupid in love
♡ huh yunjin ﹒ gender neutral!idol!reader, kinda implied lsf 6th member!reader genre fluff, a tiny bit of angst/slice of life warnings secret relationship, i never explicitly mention fem reader but it is slightly implied with the 6th reader + implied homophobia, several taylor swift references and one very very vague beabadoobee reference lol note if you’re new here, i dont (normally) write for lsf but ive been waiting for this song to come out and it finally did so here this is very self indulgent lol. takes place in an alternate universe where there was a kcon in france for kcon europe 🤷♀️ also no i didnt look up time differences in korea and france ( library )
“Wow, this place is even more beautiful in person,” you hum, latching onto Yunjin’s free hand with your own that wasn’t preoccupied holding your small backpack. It was night time in Paris, France, by the time you and the other girls arrived. The next day would be Kcon, which you were excited to see the other idol groups perform, even a few of your favorites were there.
The black haired girl couldn’t help but smile at the content look on your face, trying her hardest to resist the urge to squeeze your cheeks and kiss you senseless. She was well aware of the cameras focused on the two of you, and forced herself to subtly slide her hand out of yours. It seemed the media never stopped working, either.
Glancing at her, you ignore her action before following behind Chaewon as she begins to lead the rest of you to the company car. As usual, the two of you pile in the car last, lagging behind for the other girls to get in before you. Chaewon sits in the passenger seat while Eunchae and your manager sit in the front row and Sakura and Kazuha in the middle row.
As the car begins to roll forward, your head leans on her shoulder as Eunchae began filming a video on a camera for the experience. Yunjin doesn’t pay the camera any mind, knowing everything but Eunchae would be blurred out in the final cut, and you two probably weren’t even in the shot, anyway. In the privacy of the car with the members, she intertwines her fingers with yours, laying them in your lap. Her head turns, lips brushing against the inside of your wrist where the tattoo of the moon was before she leans her head back on yours. Her free hand feels the smoothness of her own wrist where her sun tattoo was.
With you falling asleep on her, she was able to put in her earbuds and put her playlist on shuffle. One of her favorites, Paper Rings, started to play and she smiled slightly but genuinely, immediately being reminded of you— and the dream she had of you last night.
Normally, she could never remember her dreams but this one, she immediately wrote it down when she woke up. Maybe it was a vision, or a version of you and her in another universe, she didn’t know. But she remembered the feeling of nervousness and anticipation as she kneeled down in front of you, the ecstasy when you said yes, and the comfort and love she felt for you for the rest of your lives.
While the dream did make her want to kick her feet and giggle like a kid, it made her die a little inside because she knew she’d never be able to have that with you. Not when the world was the way it was. Neither of you would ever have a career again, you wouldn’t be able to do the things you loved like you were doing right now. And yeah, she loved performing and singing, she loved the fans, she loved the girls, her life couldn’t be more perfect— but she was pretty sure she loved you more than anything else.
It got her thinking as she got ready for the flight to France, that maybe she could indulge in her dreams a bit, even if it was just nonsense talking. She just wants to know that you feel the same way, too. That you’re in this for the long run, just like her.
The thought remains in her head for the rest of the ride to the hotel, dodging fans waiting in the front of the hotel as you head in through the back. Like usual, you and Yunjin are roommates. Taking the key card with a smile, the other girls watch you two rush off with childish giggles leaving your mouths.
It’s not until the two of you are laying in the queen sized bed that she brings it up. She’s playing with a strand of your hair, trying to focus on you as you ramble on about all the things you want to do while in Paris. She knows she should focus, but all she can think about is her dream and that damn Taylor song. Goddamn Taylor and her musical ability.
“Jen,” your soft touch to her jaw makes her eyes snap towards yours, and she goes to hold it, keeping your hand there. “What’s wrong? You’ve been distant all day.”
“Nothing’s wrong,” she shakes her head, shuffling closer to you as one of your legs intertwined with hers. “Just been thinking.”
“About?” You playfully press, raising brows like you knew the answer already. She wouldn’t be surprised if you did.
Yunjin laughs, “About a thing or two.” She presses a clumsy kiss to what she hoped were your lips in the dark, but manages to miss and kiss your chin. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you murmur, eyes glancing down at her lips, “A kiss is a kiss.”
A comfortable silence follows, just staring at each other before she speaks up, “I had a dream last night. An epiphany, if you will.” She slide glances at you, “Eureka!” The two of you burst into giggles, before she sobers up quickly, continuing her train of thought before she lost the confidence, “And it was a really, really good dream. It’s like my number one wish.”
You smile, “Yeah? What happened? Did you do a collab with Taylor Swift? I had a dream like that once.”
“We got married,” she quickly rushes out before she can talk herself out of it. Your silence makes her heart ache, but what did she really expect?
“What was the wedding like?” Whatever she expected you to say— was not that.
Her mouth opens and closes at your question, feeling her heart warm at the expectant, loving look on your face. You didn’t shy away from her, or close off, like she expected. It was like you wanted it, too. She smiles shyly, tracing shapes on the back of your hand, “Good music. We looked really good. We danced to Lover,” she laughs, and you did, too. “All of our friends were there. Family, too. Lots of flowers, pastel colors. I cry during my vows. You cry, too. Just a bunch of snot and tears. I loved it.”
“So do I,” you whisper, eyes seemingly glistening in the dark.
Yunjin’s eyes search yours for something, and when she finds it, she says without hesitation, “Let’s get married in Vegas.”
You smile a mixture of bashfulness and sadness, “I wish.”
“We don’t really need anyone else,” she murmurs, scooting closer to you, your noses almost touching now. “No guest list. Just you and me.”
“Whose last name would we take?” You whisper quietly, closing your eyes to imagine it.
She keeps her eyes open, staring straight at you unwaveringly, “Anyone’s. I don’t care, we can keep our last names, or combine, just as long as you’re mine and I’m yours.”
“I’m yours and you’re mine with or without a piece of paper, baby,” you smile, opening your eyes back open to fiddle with her necklace.
Yunjin’s smile grows bigger as yours does, both of you leaning in at the same time to press your lips together in a soft but meaningful kiss. You linger a second after you pull back, scattering small kisses over her face and making her laugh slightly.
“I think Chaewon would kill us if we even tried to elope,” you pull back, laughing at the memory of the leader yelling. “Like she did when we got those matching tattoos without telling anyone last year.” God, the tweets about the tattoos were hilarious. “But it’s a fun thought.”
“I’ll save it for our Pinterest board,” Yunjin grins when your eyes dart to hers in a bit of shock. She laughs, “What?”
“You have a Pinterest board for us?” Your voice is soft as you ask, finding it endearing. She sheepishly nods, and you laugh softly, pressing a kiss to her nose, “Cute. I wanna see.”
She’s hesitant to agree, but with quick thinking on her feet, she manages to grab your attention with, “Wait, after I make you a ring out of paper.” She sits up, hastily pulling her bag over to her for a piece of paper. She seems to serious and into her task that it makes you giggle a bit, making her brows relax as she glances up away from her bag. “What? I know it’s not an actual ring, but—”
You cut her off by curling your fingers around the collar of her shirt, pulling her down to you with a large “umph!” leaving her mouth as she crashes down into your body. She goes to push herself up but you grab her face, pulling her lips to yours and she easily stops, leaning all of her weight on you and deepening the kiss. Your hand trails to the back of her head, smoothing it down until your finger wraps a strand of her hair around your finger. You pull back, a string of saliva connecting you to her like an invisible red string of fate.
You grin, swiping the string away with a finger, “I’m so stupid in love with you, Jennifer. You’d be the crazy one to think I’d say no.”
“Everyone thinks you’re the crazy one, actually,” she murmurs, shaking her head lightly before pulling you in for another kiss. “Guess we’re the perfect pair, huh?”

One Day at a Time | Finnick Odair x Reader

previous part / thg masterlist / inbox
summary: a short collection of sweet moments shared between you and Finnick as you recover, reminding the both of you of the love you share (part four of the remember series but works on it's own) tags / content warnings: fluff, no use of y/n, mentions of punching, I really think that's it. word count: 1.6k a/n: It's finally here! Sorry it took so long my only excuse is that I am an absolute mess of a human being which is a terrible one but oh well. This will be the final part of the series, hope the fluff makes up for all the heartbreak I've put you through <3
It's been a week now, one week of blissful moments spend with Finnick while recovering from the attack within district 13. After all that had happened you were in need of some peace, and the universe granted it.
On the first day you were still in the hospital wing, an IV dripping steady fluids into your system. You woke up to Finnick sitting next to you, one of his hands holding onto yours while the other was holding up a book. It was one of your favourites, and you had been pestering him about reading it so you could talk about it with him, but he had always brushed you off, saying he'd get around to it eventually. It seems eventually finally came around. You coaxed him into getting in the bed with you, he was hesitant at first, not wanting to hurt you, but he wasn't above your charms either, your eyes pleading with him in a way he couldn't resist. He had settled in behind you, letting you lean against him, ignoring the dirty look the nurse gave you. You had asked him to read to you, and even though you already knew it by heart, his sweet voice added a whole new element to the story so beloved.
The second day was spent trying to convince the nurse to let you leave the hospital room, if only for a few hours, she didn't initially want to agree, but Finnick simply wouldn't drop the subject. So you walked together towards the dinner hall, feeling like little children sneaking out past the curfew.
Supper had already finished, but Finnick was friends with one of the cooks who let him into the kitchens. He told you to sit down on the table in the middle of the room and gave you a quick peck on the lips before moving over to the fridge. It was simple, it wasn't much, but it was perfect. He would let you taste the dish in-between steps, always forgetting one ingredient or another, but you didn't mind reminding him. At some point you could have sworn he was doing it on purpose, but maybe he was just too caught up in having you there with him again. You offered to help with meting the butter, dicing the vegetables, stirring the sauce, but each and every time he would insist you stayed right where you were, accentuated with a quick kiss, his hands on your face smearing flour all over your jaw, not that you minded. He claimed he was the better cook anyway, that you'd only hold him back, now that one you both knew was a lie, but it was a precious one, one that didn't need to be disturbed.
Day three consisted of a slow day back in your room, having been cleared by the doctor and finally being in your own space again. You and Finnick hadn't shared a room in a while now with everything that had gone down, but you had immediately decided to spend your nights together again, not wanting to spend more time apart than necessary. You hadn't fully recovered yet, still needing your rest, but Finnick had set his mind on moving your things back into his room today.
So there you were, sitting crossed legged on his bed absentmindedly sipping on some coffee he had brought you as you watched him bustle about. He was only gone a few minutes at a time, but you never failed to produce a smile when you saw him approaching again, hands full with some of your books, the collection of flowers he had given you over the years that you had dried and pressed in-between the pages were sticking out slightly, but he handled them with care. Even while you weren't together you couldn't find it ins yourself to get rid of them, and you're glad of it now. He goes back and forth for a while, collecting your pillow, your skin care products, your small radio that barely managed to get a reception down here, but you couldn't bare to part with. Each time he'd ask you where you wanted him to put it down, carefully creating a space that consisted of the both of you.
On day four you had finally woken up in his arms again, wondering how you could have ever forgotten this feeling. When he noticed you were awake he had moved to place a delicate kiss on your lips, basking in the simplicity of the fact that he could. He had told you he had a surprise for you today, and you couldn't help how giddy you already got from the mere thought of what it could be. But it was oh so much better than you could have imagined, because today Finnick took you to the surface. How he managed to get you past all the checkpoints was beyond you, and when you asked he had simply said he had friends in all the right places.
It was a bit of a walk to the spot he wanted to take you, but you revelled in the sunlight against your face, needing to squint your eyes to see properly with how bright the sun was but too blissed to care. The high grass rustled against your bare legs as you continued to walk, and the tickling sensation brought back so many fond memories. When you finally made it to the clearing it was a sight from a dream. The tree next to the lake provided a shadow you could both comfortably lay in as the smell of the fresh water blessed your senses once more. The wildflowers adorning the space around you were once you could recall from back home, with a few others you couldn't identify. Finnick had picked a few, placing them behind your ear as he talked about what the flower meant. A myosotis, he had called it, representing true love and dedication. He told you about the myth behind the forget-me-nots, how they had been afraid of being forgotten by the gods, and you had vowed in return to never spend a day without thinking of him again.
During the fifth day you didn't do much of anything special, but you supposed that depends on your definition of the word. Finnick had made dandelion tea from flowers he had collected yesterday, the familiar taste bringing back a sense of nostalgia for a time that you wouldn't be able to return to. You had once told him your mother used to make it when you were sick, and ever since he would go collect them by the cliffs for you. You had insisted it was too much work that he didn't need to worry himself with, he had countered that he enjoyed the view where they grew anyway, and really, he was going for himself as much as for you. Maybe he had simply been trying to get you to stop fussing over the subject, maybe it had really been true.
You spend the day talking to your friends, reminiscing in regained memories and filling in gaps that you couldn't on your own. As you sat next to Johanna she talked on about the days Finnick spent longing after you, claiming he was alright wirh being just friends, but she was convinced that if any of her friends looked at her the way he looked at you she would have suckerpunched them.
On the sixth day you had begged Finnick train with you, saying how you wanted to get your strength back, how you missed the exercise and the content feeling of aching muscles. He had been reluctant, of course he had been, but once you had managed to drag him onto the training mat he revelled in it. He couldn't deny he had missed sparring with you, the action so effortless with you. He had made fun of how you threw your punches, saying you had to extent your arms further to complete the motion, but he was the one not protection his core properly while fixating on you. It had been good to feel your body in motion again, he was still stronger than you, knocking the breath out of your lungs once be stopped holding back, but you were still faster, getting the drop on him in the split seconds he was distracted. The manner in which your muscle memory still held up, the way in which you still used the same techniques without meaning to, it was good to know there are some things people can't take from you.
The seventh day you picked your routine back up. Waking up to an empty bed but not lonely, his side was still warm as you rolled over. Once you opened your eyes you saw the cup of coffee and the note on the bedside table. Finnick knew you never slept for long after he left, somehow he still knew. He had been given some time off during your recovery, but district 13 didn't stand still and they had needed his help. You weren't expected back yet, but the sense of purpose was one that you were always glad to have. You drank the coffee he left you as you got dressed, smiling as he had made it exactly to your liking, even if he used to complain you couldn't even call it coffee anymore with that much sugar in it. And so you went back to work, moving to scribble a quick message on the back of the note if he came back looking for you, not that he needed it, somehow he would always know where you were.
In the past week you had learned that a love as great as the one you shared with Finnick could never be forgotten, not really, because no matter how many memories faded, there would always come new ones. And soon, even though you didn't know it yet, Finnick would give you his mother's ring once more, and this time you would remember everything that led you here, and you would remember saying yes.

Song: Hobbies - Aleyna Moon
You jolted awake, feeling a cold sweat cover your body. Your room was covered in a blue haze, shades of cerulean to indigo tinting your walls. You shifted onto your side, checking your phone to see it being just past nightfall. Sighing, you were relieved it was earlier. You hated getting caught in the sun when trying to have a relaxing morning, or night in your case.
You stretched, muscles tensing before melting into your bed. You felt for your phone, hands slapping around to feel for the cool glass screen, you opened your phone to check your work schedule. You clicked your phone off seeing it was your day off, today you could relax but tomorrow you’d have to buy groceries. Ugh.
There was something disgusting about walking through the bright, florescent stores. So bright, so full of smells. The aisles reeked of plastics and cleaners, the vegetables smelt moldy and green, checkout lines stunk of rubber and human sweat. The only area with a decent fragrance was the butcher counter, filled with the earthy, iron scent of blood and meat.
You wish you could live your life far from these stores but that was a privilege you were never granted. Feeding on people was a luxury, drinking a full bodied meal wasn’t what the average vampire could afford.
A sad reality you had to face every day. Vampirism wasn’t as sexy or fun as old movies or pop culture would have you believe. There were no bat transformations, no velvet lined coffins. No chalices of blood or garlic cloves you ward you away. Which wasn’t even true, vampires loved garlic, one of the few foods you could stomach.
The best depiction of a vampire was Jennifer’s Body. Cold, depraved, lifeless, gaunt. Most days feeling like you were on death’s door, feeling dried up and tired, greasy hair matching your dull skin. Smearing foundation across your face to feel some semblance of normalcy, of humanness.
That was until you could feed. Then you could feel your skin bounce with hydration, your mind clearing from the dark, heavy thoughts that weighed you down. Feeling carefree and energetic.
But that’s the deal, even when you never had the choice.
You laid in bed, waiting out the sunset to make sure you were clear to leave. You hated waiting. It would be just a few more minutes before you could leave and go out. As your thoughts passed by you remember watching those old vampire movies. Reading bad novels and teenage romance with weirdly old monsters that tried emulating a distorted sense of humanness.
That’s nothing like this.
Finally being nightfall, you got up and dressed. You never dress fancy or extravagant, a terrible stereotype for your kind. Vampires aren’t romantic or even enjoy getting “dolled” up. Only loser goth kids did that. A fine line separating the real and wannabe vampires.
As you finished dressing, you walked out of your bedroom to step into the world. You were grateful for living in such a nightlife heavy city, this being the few ways you could still connect with people while passing as their kind. Although the loneliness still got to you.
There was an emotion disconnect, feeling out of place even when masking so well as them. It was weird, very weird. Before you turned you felt just the same as them, a human who enjoyed the sunlight warming your skin, going to parks or arcades, spending time with friends and families at get togethers. But now, there’s just a void. Yeah, that’s the word: Void.
You don’t quite remember when you turned, but something happened. One day you woke up different. Feeling repulsed by the norms of your previous life. Like a switch turned on and changed you. Your family wrote it off as some transitional thing, something temporary or due to traumatic events.
Stepping outside, you walk down the hall to your apartment’s elevator. You feel a slight squeeze along your stomach. You haven’t fed in over a month. You think about who to call: Violet moved away, Brian stopped letting friends feed on him. Hmmm. Who to call?
Walking out to the street, your thoughts shifted from who to feed on to remembering how it felt. You missed feeding. The rush you felt when drinking, it was unlike anything. Feeling your body rejuvenate and spring back to life. It was one of the few things that brought your heartbeat back.
Most of the time you fed yourself on animal blood. Picking up ground meat and draining the blood from the package before drinking it down. It wasn’t your favorite, too much iron, you think. But it got the job done, regardless of how appetizing it was.
You, of course, still ate human food but it wasn’t as nourishing as blood. Still, you made your way to the closest fast food place, and even if you had to hold your nose, you ate something as a buffer between feedings.
You still felt that hollow hunger in your stomach, even after eating whatever meal you picked up. It wasn’t enough to attack someone but it was dull and you were sure you’d need to call someone for a feeding. Ah, the pains of being a vampire.
You did your usual routine, walking around your city and watching people interact with each other. Staying plenty far from the bright florescent lights from stores, you caught onto a smell that made your heart pound.
You’d usually find this pounding as an anxiety signal but this time it felt different. This time it felt primal.
You followed the scent, catching yourself in front of some prop shop. Looking at the storefront filled with notebooks, stickers, little decor items. You glanced over at where the scent was coming from, seeing a tall man with dark brown hair. You could see his round, almost downturned eyes, his full cheeks, and his bright smile stretching across his face.
Something gravitated you towards him. Something about him kept your eyes glued to him. You’ve never felt this, this magnetism. Didn’t being a vampire mean you were immune to these things? Was he a vampire?
And what scared you was how hard your heart was beating. You haven’t felt this since you were human, a life ago.
You moved beside him, saying a soft “Excuse me,” as you entered the store. You felt him eyes watch you, almost follow you as you looked around, picking up some pen or notebook to examine, anything to play out your forced meet-cute. You continued walking around, looking at their items as you watched his follow you. Just far enough behind to not be caught.
‘A cat and mouse game? He doesn’t know I’m the cat.’ You thought.
As you were close to checking out, he stood beside you, pretending to look at some shelf of items. You could smell him, under his cologne and fabric softener, you could smell his skin and the richness of his blood. You almost felt dizzy with hunger. He smelt intoxicating.
“I’m sorry, have we met before?”
You blinked, looking at him. “No? I don’t think so.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” He excused himself.
Your peripheral followed him, you couldn’t obviously follow someone, but he was interesting enough to try. You gave the store a final glance around before walking towards the check out counter, this man being conveniently a customer or two behind you.
Buying your items, you made your way out of the store. Keeping a steady pace to let him follow you, no matter how slow or fast me was. You could smell him come closer, slowly stalking you as you feigned prey. If he did something you could always eat him, you had the strength to do so.
You walked around, window shopping along some shop displays before moving towards an alleyway. This was a shortcut to the grocery store you’ve gone to, but you’re sure he doesn’t know that. You’re sure he’s like anyone else and takes a car or taxi around the city, using surface streets to move around opposed to the inner labyrinth of the alleyways between buildings.
You began walking into the alley, despite the lack of rain there always seemed to be puddles lining the walkway, probably from bad pipes. You could feel his eyes watching you, a giddy sensation beating through you: your heart beat faster, you felt a slight vibration feeling along your genitals. Something erotic about turning the cards on prey.
He began walking faster, trying to catch up to you, you turned a corner, glancing back at him as you test the waters. He followed you there, gaining on you. He almost behind you now. You felt a surge of anxiety shoot up your spine.
You began counting your choices: 1, start running. 2, turn and fight him. 3, you were sure there was a third option but you couldn’t think with the building anxiety.
Your pace sped up, it had been speeding up since you counted, turning on your heel with wide eyes, you threw a punch at him. Your punch landed on his ribs, you felt your knuckles bury into his bones, he was still walking as your fist was already colliding into his body. His breath flew out of him, falling backwards onto the asphalt beside some shop’s trash cans.
“Holy shit.” He barely spoke out.
“The fuck are you following me for?” Your voice was stern, almost reprimanding.
“Okay,” He tried taking a breath, still on the floor, “I was being a creep.”
“Yeah you fucking were.” You were about to turn on your heel again, walk away from him but his scent was even more intoxicating. The blooming of a bruise was pooling blood into his skin, wafting his scent to your nose as you kept your face stern and hard.
”I’m sorry.”
You scoffed, “Now you’re sorry.”
“I should’ve been less stalker-ish and acted normal.”
You walked over and crouched down to be, almost, face to face with him.
“Yeah, you should have.” You gave him a half frown.
“I’m Shotaro.”
“Now I can give the police station a name.”
“Please don’t!”
You stood, grabbing his wrist to pull him up.
“And if you punch like that, I surely wouldn’t wanna piss you off any further.”
You smirked feeling empowered by his comment, “So what are you doing following people throughout alleyways?”
“I still think you look familiar and wanted to ask for your name.” Shotaro explained, “Which is?”
“Y/n.”
“Y/n.” He thought for a moment, “Never met a y/n before.”
“And I’ve never met a Shotaro before.”
“And now we can no longer be strangers.”
You laughed at his smile, “No longer strangers but I promise we’re far from friends.”
“I can live with that.”
His carefree smile and speech was almost irritating. How could a man just follow someone throughout a maze of alleyways and laugh about it?
“Where was your escape plan? You have to be going somewhere, unless you’re confused in these alleys.”
You looked him up and down, “I was headed somewhere, a grocery store, but you don’t have to believe me.”
“I do.” He laughed.
Shotaro moved a step closer to you, his scent growing stronger. He was sweet but not sugary. Not like a strawberry, not tart, but not dry like blueberries. Something different, something fuller. You had to remind yourself to be patient, you can’t just feed off of him now. Not in some place so public.
“What are you thinking?”
He leaned down to look at your face better.
“How trustworthy you are.”
“I am trustworthy, bad introductions.” He laughed, walking closer to you.
His scent kept getting stronger, maybe it’s not quite fruity, it’s sweet but fuller bodied. An assortment of scents melting together.
“Sure, we’ll start over like nothing ever happened.”
“I didn’t follow you into a creepy alley.”
“And I didn’t punch your ribs.”
You fake laughed while he began walking past you, looking back for you to follow. Reluctantly, you followed him.
“So, y/n, do you work?”
“Yeah, receptionist.”
“Ooh, nice. I’m a teacher at this one dance academy.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.” He smiled.
You continued talking, slowly opening up about yourself as you found your way to some bar.
“Do you drink?” He asked.
“Only occasionally.”
“Is this one of those occasions?”
“Sure, I’ll have a drink.”
You two sat at a table together, ordering drinks before asking the bartender for more mixer. This wasn’t something you’d want to be drunk for.
“Are you a night owl?” He asked.
“Definitely.” You answered.
“That’s the most enthusiastic you’ve been so far.”
You laughed at Shotaro’s comment, “Hard to be enthusiastic when I’m with someone I just punched.”
“It still hurts, you have a good throw.”
“That’s a weird comment to say thank you to.”
“Do you have any interests- or no that’s not how to phrase it.”
“I guess I like gothic stuff, like vampires and gothic literature.”
Shotaro perked up in curiosity, “Cool, most of my friends just like working out.” He laughed.
“Really?”
“Some make music, but the main reader likes sci-fi.”
“That’s still cool, I’ve never been able to get that into sci-fi.”
The more you talked the closer you two scooted closer. You were more drunk on the scent of his blood than you were on the cheap alcohol put in your drink.
“It’s a bit late, oh! Would it be bad to ask for your number?”
Shotaro stared down at you, his round eyes almost pleading for you to say yes.
“Sure.”
You took out your phone, exchanging numbers before you stood to walk home.
“May I walk you home?” Shotaro was quick behind you.
“Only if you’re walking beside me and not behind me.”
Shotaro quickly moved next to you, keeping you on the inside part of the sidewalk. The walk was peaceful, quiet but not uncomfortable. You wondered how you could pull this off. Not tonight, though. You can’t tell him about your condition tonight. Maybe later, maybe you’ll watch him around here and there before thinking of a plan.
Arriving at your apartment building, Shotaro awkwardly leaned against the stone exterior.
“If you’d like you can come inside.” You said.
“I can?”
“As long as you don’t make a fool of yourself.”
“I can do that.”
You lead him to the elevator and to your floor, turning your lights on, you display your apartment to him. It’s never messy, you hate how bugs already gravitate towards the dark, but you are in need of a grocery haul.
“This is nice, I thought there’d be more gothic stuff.”
“More than velvet pillows?” You laughed.
Shotaro sat on your couch, enjoying how plush it was.
“Are you hungry? I can order something or try to cook.”
“What restaurants are nearby? I live more west of this area.”
You thought about it, “There’s a few Thai and Chinese restaurants, some more commercial some more authentic, a couple pizza places, there’s also a seafood place who delivers.”
“Hm, maybe pizza.”
“Okay.” You smiled.
You called in your order, sitting and talking with Shotaro until it came.
“This is really good.”
You nodded, “I’m sure it’s a front but a lot of people still eat there.”
He laughed, “Oh, what time is it?”
“12:30, why?”
“I have a class at 9, it’s fine though.”
“Did you need to get home? I can drive you. Unless this is your way of asking to spend the night.”
“I think I’d be stepping over a boundary if I asked that.”
You two cleaned up before helping him home, Shotaro was insistent on walking but did ask for you two to keep in touch.
“Where is your dance academy?”
“Off of broadway, kind of near that art museum.”
You nodded, you think you can picture it but it can’t hurt to drive by. Closing the door behind him, you looked up the academy on your phone. It was a juniors academy, helping younger people begin dancing and specialized in hip hop as well as being associated with the clinic next door, a dance rehabilitation facility.
Your night was filled with searching Shotaro up, finding his social media accounts, linkedin account, seeing photos taken from his friends, you found an old youtube account from his early teenage years, and a plethora of school photos, from picture day photos to sports accomplishments, he was in a couple dance teams before signing up with his academy.
“You’re an interesting one.” You commented.
Checking the time, you saw it was two in the morning. You clicked off of the many tabs littering your computer, stretching from your crouched position. Fatigue hit you, feeling drained of every ounce of energy you had, walking to your bedroom you fell onto your sheets before sleeping.
Your next day was monotonous. Walking around your local grocery store, trying to not gag at the strong scents of everything, and filling your cupboards with your haul. You walked back to your car, it’s been a month since your last visit with the butcher.
You were grateful his shop was nearby, just a street or two away from your complex. You drove over, parking easily before walking inside the rustic butcher shop. The scent of iron was strong, the butcher was grinding some meat together.
“Welcome!” He announced, “I’ll be right with you.”
You looked around at the display of meats, seeing which ones looked good and which were lower quality.
“You’re here for the usual?” He asked.
“Yes, sir.” You smiled.
He changed his gloves, walking to the back to get your bottled blood. You were grateful that butchers didn’t always throw that away, “It’s for my low iron.” You explained once and you were incredibly grateful he could give you the pints at a discount.
“We got extra meat shipments, so you have more than usual.”
“Thank you.” You said, taking your money out to pay.
After exchanging goods, you took your bottles to your trunk, placing it carefully in your trunk. Even with the sealed lid, you worried about spilling blood in your car. The drive back home was slow, careful to keep the bottles grounded in your trunk while also obeying the heavy traffic on the streets.
Arriving home, you lugged your bottles into the elevator, hoping no one smells the iron. Even if they did what were they gonna do? You’ve been doing this for plenty of months. Getting to your unit, you placed your bottles into your fridge, always just out of sight from the usual glance into your fridge.
The rest of your day was as slow as ever, washing your work clothes before setting your alarms to wake up. You cooked dinner and warmed up some of the animal blood to have with it, feeling a little quenched after some time from feeding. You showered before falling asleep, not even remembering your dreams, you wondered if you dreamt at all. Was vampirism more of a meditation or were you properly undead as they’re believed.
When your morning came, morning meaning 6:00pm, you ate before getting ready for work. This week was longer, the usual receptionist before your shift was out for something so you’re picking up her schedule alongside yours.
Arriving, it was sunset, the sky was orange and pink with clouds creating deep blue shadows. You set your things into your drawer, locking it before setting up your station. Logging in, you sat there, taking out a book to read while you wait for people to enter or ask you questions.
You could spend hours just reading, which was what you usual did while waiting for your shift to end. Being a part of the night crew, you were used to not seeing people for hours at a time. Most of the time it was your staff who walked by you, never actual people coming in and out of the building.
The hours continued stretching from book to book, checking what was on your computer, reading through files and time sheets, even reorganizing your work desk, seeing what people left or littered onto your workspace.
When the endless hours of your shift finished, you were quick to leave, logging out of the computer and clocking out of work. Your commute home was easy, being right before the morning rush. Arriving home, you ate something light before crashing onto your bed.
You’ve had this routine for a while, working, busying yourself for hours, then falling asleep right as you arrive home. When you’d wake, you’d do some chores, eat something, do your usual things before leaving for work.
Your routine was numbing you harder than usual; this with the lack of feeding was killing you. You were surprised when Shotaro sent you a text to hang out this weekend. You accepted, needing some escape from the hell of your twelve hour shifts.
When your date came, you were excited, wondering when the closest you could get to drinking from him. This obsession was clouding your brain. Your conscience clouded every time you thought of the scent of his blood, something overcame you and made you feel far hungrier than you’ve ever felt.
Shotaro picked you up, driving you to a restaurant before going to a bar he enjoyed. You two talked more, exchanging instagram accounts, and catching up from where you last talked. He was working on a performance he wanted you to come to.
“It is at your academy?”
“No, we don’t know where yet, but some auditorium, I can send you the details later.”
“I’d like to go.” You smiled.
Not long after, his friend began calling him,
“Sorry, this will just be a minute.”
You smiled, nodding as Shotaro walked off.
You were in a more secluded area of the bar, enjoying the privacy while talking to each other. Looking around, no one was near, no one was watching, not even cameras. You felt a cold chill travel your skin. You felt nervous, like you were going to get caught doing something bad. You were about to do something bad.
You dug into your bag, looking like any person trying to find a mirror or mint. You found the small plastic bag, a white powder being held inside. You gave another look around before dropping some on top of Shotaro’s drink, carefully mixing it around with his straw before leaving it exactly how it was left.
You wanted to wait, you really did. But the smell, the strong scent of his blood was too much. You were hungry, so hungry. It was wrong to drug someone to feed off of them but your hunger was clouding your conscience.
As he arrived, Shotaro said sorry, something about his friend leaving something at his house. You could barely hear him, feeling your heart beat in your ears as you saw him begin drinking his drink.
The drug worked slowly, far slower than you anticipated. Shotaro slowly began slurring his words, feeling weird and far more drunk than the few drinks he had could have felt.
“Do you need to go home? Here, let me help you.”
You lifted him up by his side, helping his walk to his car, setting him in the passenger seat, you drove to your home. Careful to not drive too fast for him or other drivers. Arriving at your complex, you helped him into the elevator. Shotaro looked like any other drunk person.
Walking him towards your apartment, he was stumbling more and his consciousness was fading. He laid out onto your floor as you shut your door.
‘Okay, so this is why much stronger people do this, not me.’ You thought, almost dragging his body into your apartment.
Splayed out, his eyes fell shut, fully passing out as you sighed, needing to drag his now unconscious body to your bed. You drug him into your bedroom, pulling him across and up onto your bed, you waited for his breathing and pulse to be lighter before getting your syringes.
Seeing his sleeping figure was weird, Shotaro was so full of life and energy, seeing him asleep felt off. But you shook him around, seeing him well out of it before taking out a fresh syringe and drawing some blood from one of his veins.
You grabbed onto his arm, poking against his skin at random spots and drawing blood. You filled a good 3ml syringe of his blood, transferring it to a shot glass before taking a drink. You felt yourself groan as you dripped his warm blood onto your tongue. The taste wasn’t too full of iron, earthy and full, it was a perfect blend. Thankfully the drug didn’t disrupt his blood, you hated when it did that.
Carefully you pulled another 3ml from him, taking another drink of it before you tried calming yourself down. You can’t take too much, even in these small doses. You felt yourself shiver thinking of feeding off of him. You wanted to, almost needed to, a month of hunger clouding your judgement.
You removed the glass and syringe, not wanting him to question what they were doing here. Before long, Shotaro woke.
“Are you alright?” You asked, rubbing your thumb across his forehead.
“My head hurts so fucking bad.”
You frowned.
“What happened?” He asked.
“I think someone roofied your drink, maybe they thought it was mine.”
“That makes sense.” Shotaro stared up at your ceiling.
“Do you need to go to a hospital? I can drive you.” You shifted in your seat, looking ready to grab your car keys to drive him.
“No, I’ll be fine, I’m just hazy right now.”
“Rest some more if you need.”
Shotaro turned to look at you, “Is this your place?”
“Yeah.” You nodded.
“Your bed is nice.”
You laughed, “If you need anything I can get it for you.”
“I might rest some more.”
You stood, making your way to leave the room, thinking of your next plan. If you can keep doing this you can have some kind of regular feeding. But if it’s too often then Shotaro could catch on that you’re the only drugging him. Maybe he could grow a tolerance and wake up in the middle of feeding.
You could do more when he’s over, adding it to his water, maybe convince him he’s a lightweight. You turned around, hearing him call out for you. Walking into the door way.
“What’s wrong?”
Shotaro coughed lightly, “Could I get some water?”
“Of course, here.”
You quickly walked to your kitchen, getting him some water before stopping. You could drug him more, or you could wait, or you could do it. You quickly got a small bit of the powder and dashing it into the water. Stirring it enough to dissolve the powder before bringing it to Shotaro.
Walking back into your bedroom, you watched him drink his water, slowly lulling off to sleep before he passed out. It didn’t take long to pass out again. It was only being half of what you gave him in the bar, but it was probably enough to kick in faster with what was already in his system.
You hovered over him, watching him slowly descend into deep sleep. You’ve never felt this kind of power before, fully in control over someone, you understood why people did this. There’s a thrill that shot right into your core. A tightening sensation in your lower abdomen, you crawled over him and straddled his lap, sitting down before leaning in and smelling Shotaro.
You groaned, opening your mouth to lick and kiss along his neck, your hips grinding into his as you bit onto his skin. You had to stop yourself from latching on and sucking a hickey into his neck, any evidence of what you’re doing could ruin everything.
You felt his dick begin to harden below you, you crawled down, pulling the covers off and freeing him out of his pants. You could feel him twitch in your hand, slowly rubbing his shaft up and down as you could almost smell his blood in him. This smelt far muskier, being such an intimate area.
You licked his tip, pushing some of his length into your mouth, almost tasting the blood that was so close to your tongue. Pushing him farther into your mouth, you groaned thinking of how he’d taste from the tap. You looked up at him, feeling a thrill shoot into your core as you saw him sleep peacefully. Not even scrunching his brows or twitching his mouth.
You pulled off of him, tucking him back into his pants before you crawled upwards. Leaning over to your bedside table, you took out a small pocket knife, you always kept it there for an attempt at self defense but you didn’t think it would come in handy one day.
You gave his neck a light flick, seeing a small bead of blood form and drop against his skin. You latched onto the cut, your lips kissing along the wound as your hips found their way back to his. Rutting against him, you continued drinking from his neck, even the small amount felt filling on your tongue.
You pulled down your bottoms, grinding closer against Shotaro as you continued drinking. If you had less control you’d bite him, as your tongue drug across his neck you thought of how you’d eat him. Your hips slowing grinding against his, elongating your pleasure as you pictured it.
You’d, of course, bite and drink along his neck and chest, but you wonder what his flesh tastes like, biting against his calf or thigh. The visual of blood dripping from your mouth and smearing across his skin. The look of his face as you bite down, the visuals of pain and pleasure don’t look too far from each other. How his meat would feel against your teeth.
Shotaro’s a dancer, he’s lean and strong, perfect for quick bites or slow roasting. You felt your teeth hover and lean into his skin, not biting or dragging, just pressing light against him. You could bite him, you want to, but something pulls you away.
As your hips rut a final time against Shotaro’s, you feel full. Your hips shaking, arms close to giving out and falling onto him as your orgasm hits you. You look at the wound, almost closed by white blood cells as you remove yourself from on top of Shotaro.
You’re going to find a way to keep him for as long as you possibly can.

Y/n was not dumb enough to think that after asking Grayson to stay, all her problems and worries would leave. Of course not. But she hadn’t even expected it to become so bad.
Every other day, she would just be smiling while watching the love of her life play with their daughter, and then the next moment, she’d be sitting wondering if he was here willingly. Every few days, she'd wonder if he even wanted to stay.
Wondered if he was only here because he wanted to prove to himself that he was a better father than Sheffield grayson.
Did he not mind waking up in the middle of the night sometimes to hold Adelaide when she cried? Did he like living in the same house as Y/n, someone who had tried to take away a part of him?
It was not easy these past two months. But Y/n knew that it was probably just her being insecure, maybe it was her scepticism. Maybe it was the grudge her family still held against him.
Since they found out that Y/n had let Grayson stay with her and Adelaide, they had been quite vocal about their disapproval of her decisions. It frustrated Y/n to no end, but she could also see how it looked from their perspective and knew they just wanted to keep her and their granddaughter safe.
Atleast Y/n was glad her brother didn’t know.
Since she had been born, her older brother, Liam had been a little too protective of her. Every time they played as children, he’d be extra careful so as not to hurt her. Every time they went to the playground or someone would try to approach Y/n to be her friend at school, Liam would scare them away, his gaze hard as he’d then drag his baby sister to play with her.
Y/n had never really understood why he did that. Being a little girl then, she had felt hurt but she also couldn’t stay mad at him at all.
After a particularly bad day, five year old Y/n had exploded and complained to their dad about it. After that Liam had cut her some slack, but still he never let anyone bully her. She could still remember the one time he had punched a boy because he’d pushed Y/n over and she had scraped her knee. She had cried and hugged Liam then, and he’d offered to take her to the ice cream shop if she stopped sobbing.
She loved the idiot of course, but she had to admit, he was protective to a fault.
He was currently on a business trip to New York and had been for over two months now. Apparently the business over there needed his attention. Her parents told her they weren’t sure when he would return, so she had begged them not to tell him about Grayson.
She was scared that once he found out, he would fly over just to break his jaw. Or nose. Or both, she didn’t know.
The happy squeal of her daughter drew Y/n from her thoughts finally, and she turned to look at what she was doing.
It once again brought a smile to her face.
Grayson was sprawled on the couch, in simple grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt, and was blowing raspberries on Adelaide’s stomach. He was smiling wide, his eyes twinkling in a way Y/n had rarely ever seen before.
Before he found out about Adelaide, anyways.
Y/n set aside her phone, telling herself that she could tell her brother later. It was feeding time. She walked over to the couch, holding her hands out to Grayson.
Gryason’s brows furrowed and he squished Adelaide to his chest.
"Mine."
Y/n blinked. He hadn’t ever been as childish as he was the past week. On one hand, she was surprised, but she was also happy about it. She loved this side of him, a side even he probably never knew existed.
"I know that, mister five years old, but it's feeding time."
He almost pouted, but handed a giggling Adelaide over. "I want her back when you’re done."
Y/n shook her head, hiding her smile.
The past two months, even with her bad days, had been unexpectedly pleasant. She and Grayson had had long talks about how to proceed. He had apologised profusely for calling what they did that night a mistake. According to him, he regretted saying that but had been too arrogant to apologise and thought that things would just go back to normal.
The prick.
Still, Y/n found it hard to be mad at him, because at one point, even she had thought that night was a mistake.
But now that the two had forgiven each other, life was fun. They went back to being friends, their time together feeling just like a year and a half ago, when everything had been normal between them.
Just as Y/n went to settle down on the other couch and Grayson got up to give her some privacy- he still refused to be in the same room as her when she was feeding Adelaide- the bell rang.
Instantly, Y/n shot up, and Grayson glanced at her, brows tugged together. Y/n herself did not understand her own reaction, but she knew not to dismiss the heavy feeling that was beginning to take root in her chest.
Grayson inclined his head, a question in his eyes, then turned towards the door. Y/n shook her head, then handed Adelaide back to him and rushed to open the door instead.
She did not have a good feeling about this. The feeling almost resembled the anxiety she felt when Grayson had first come to visit. It was almost like she knew who was on the other side, and she knew no one was going to like it one bit.
And sure enough, when she rolled onto her tiptoes to peer out of the peephole, her blood chilled.
Liam.
She turned to Grayson, frantically moving her hands around, trying to tell him to hide even if it wouldn’t really help, knowing it made no sense to him whatsoever. It wouldn’t have made sense to herself either if she did not know the context.
Before she could say anything, the bell rang again, and Y/n smacked her head, then opened the door.
Liam grinned at her, his dark hair tousled as if he had been running his hands through it. He honestly looked ready to fall asleep.
Despite the panic clawing at her insides as she tried not to think too much about his reaction when he found out about Grayson, she smiled back.
It had been a long while since she saw her brother.
She stepped forward, letting him wrap her in a tight embrace. It instantly relaxed her, and she let herself enjoy this moment, knowing all hell would break loose the moment Grayson came into his sight.
"Li. Missed you."
He chuckled. "Missed you too, munchkin." he pulled back, placing a tender kiss on her forehead. "Where’s my little niece?"
"Inside." Y/n bit her lip, contemplating. "How come you’re here? I thought you were in New York?"
He nodded, patting her head before manoeuvring around her to walk inside, dragging his bag behind him. "I was going back home, then thought, why not drop by? It’s been a long while anyway, and-"
He stopped speaking, and Y/n watched with growing fear as his shoulders tensed.
Y/n hurried in behind him, clicking the door shut as she took in the scene.
Grayson stared at Liam like a deer caught in headlights, giving no reaction even as Adelaide grabbed fistfulls of his hair and tugged.
Liam made no move when he spoke next, his voice low. "What the fuck is that bastard doing here?"
Well, this was going to be fun.
Sarcastic. That is sarcastic.

so I was going through Book IV for my theory post a while back and. Holy crap the foreshadowing goes Hard in this Book
In chapter 2 part 1, the party initially notices the summoner’s absence:
And then Peony says this in response:
Funnily enough, that’s exactly what happened. As of right now, the summoner is trapped in a dream. And what’s this part called again?

This is a completely accurate statement. The summoner is indeed lost in a dream, just not in the way that the party or the players expect.
Let’s skip on up to chapter 5. In part one, everyone “wakes up” to an Askr flooded with nightmares… and besides Alfonse, no one seems to recognize the summoner.
Now, this event is clearly spurred on by a nightmare. Alfonse sees it as his own fear:
But check out the way he phrases it. The fear of losing somebody isn’t exactly one-to-one with what’s happening here. Anna and Sharena are acting like the Summoner never existed. If it was Alfonse’s fear of loss that had taken over, the others would be aware of Kiran’s identity and a nightmare summoner would be preying on that terror. But that’s not happening—because this isn’t Alfonse’s fear.
Instead, it reads more as a fear of loneliness—no one knowing who you are, no one remembering everything you’ve done together…. It fits with the Summoner’s personality, too: they’re always working and working, showing kindness to everybody unconditionally, and yet barely taking a moment to relax. They want to have friends so badly that the very idea of being forgotten and abandoned terrifies them to their very core… but that fear doesn’t affect Alfonse, and the Summoner knows that, so he just ends up confused.
Oh, and on top of all that, what’s this part called?

This title hits so hard once you know the twist because it applies to BOTH Alfonse and Kiran’s perspectives. Alfonse is remembering the name of someone else, while Kiran is remembering their own name. And, frankly, I doubt many people read the part titles anyway. It’s so easily looked over and yet it’s so incredibly obvious once you first spot it. I should know—I almost missed it myself!
In Part 6’s final bit, Memory of a Friend, Veronica asks Alfonse to tell her about Zacharias, at which point Alfonse reveals his memory issues. Pay attention to the specific wording he uses here:
Fog, huh? Take a look at this!
When Alfonse dreams of the World of Steel, it’s covered in fog… just like his memories. The world is obscured, empty and cold, and it’s excruciatingly unfamiliar to him. In the Midpoint Movie, however, he encounters one other person when he’s in the fogbound city:
The summoner, aggressively charging towards him with hands outstretched. You know what happens immediately after this daydream? The party clashes with the mind-controlled summoner, and the Summoner finally realizes who they are and reclaims their identity.
When you think of foreshadowing in this Book, you most likely think of the squirrel conversation (unrelated: I had Ratatoskr in my party when I was getting these screenshots and I just think that was funny) in 11-5:
Immediately after Anna says all this, Alfonse begins showing obvious discomfort as he comes to a realization.
Alfonse and the Identity Crisis! Look at him go! This could also be a potential interpretation of the Summoner v. Alfonse scene in the movie: the dreamt-up personality coming into conflict with the actual one.
This tells the player that this may not be the real Alfonse… but it doesn’t tell them WHO. And so, they’re still on their toes when the big reveal comes around—which makes the truth of Alfonse’s real identity hit so much harder.
TLDR: Book IV had some of the most amazing foreshadowing I’ve ever seen in a video game and I wanted to talk about it some

Hello^^ I have been following your blog for a while and like that you want to explore different concepts with Baldwin IV👑🩵
If you don’t mind, would you like to write either a short drabble or Hcs of Baldwin comforting his wife after a really difficult birth? Like, it all turned out okay, the wife is alive, albeit very exhausted, the Baby came out to be strong and healthy, etc. but it was a very risky and long labor, and the physicians weren’t sure if she and the child were going to make it yk? After all, giving birth was highly risky back then, with a much higher mortality rate.
Anyway, I hope you are having a great day and keep up the good work🥳🌈✨
Yelp! It went longer that I expected. Hopefully it lives upto mark. Thank you for your support and happy reading
It felt so peaceful. So dark. I was exhausted and felt solace in darkness. However in my deep slumber I heard a sound of weeping. Someone calling my name. Begging me to come back. "Your grace the queen is fine but really exhausted" "Please let her sleep" "She needs rest to regain strength" . I think I heard some shouts and I don't remember much after that except the fact that I tried opening my eyes but I felt so tired. When I was finally able to open my eyes. I felt my mouth open and chest sweaty huffing desperate to get fresh air. "When did this happen" I thought. It almost felt like a dream .My head was spinning. My throat felt dry. I tried moving a bit when I could feel sticky wet substance below my waist I tried moving my legs again but realised that I was too exhausted to do so . "What's happening" I thought again worried.
"My wife is finally awake, quickly get some water"
My husband took the glass of water from widwife. Baldwin IV made me sit upright as he quickly fed me water. Baldwin IV didn't realise in state of panic how fast he was being in feeding me water. I started coughing as result
"Easy love". He gently rubbed my back as he handed back glass of water to midwife. My husband started kissing me all over my face and then hugged me tightly.
"Darling, you made it" "I am really happy" "When I saw you laying down like that l" "I was so scared, I thought I will never see you again" I could feel my shoulder getting wet from his tears as Baldwin IV kissed my hair while speaking to me. I remembered that when I was going through difficult labour. Although the baby came out alive and strong they weren't sure I would make it. After hearing this I lost consciousness
Remembering about the baby I asked where is the baby right now. Baldwin IV replied that our child was fine and is currently with the midwife who was taking care of baby
"Moment I heard one of the midwife saying that perhaps you might not survive I grew anxious and prayed to God on my knees for some miracle"
I got really scared remembering the pain I had to bear while screaming in agony. I got really nervous realising how close I was knocking at death's door. My husband the king, Baldwin IV was able to comprehend my emotional state. Without hesitation he took off his white cloak and covered me in it. He hugged me again and started drawing circles on arm while singing a lullaby. It worked and I felt myself getting calmer. "My love I am here" "I'll be there to protect you, even if it's my own battle". Hearing this I immediately voiced my thoughts "It had been a tough experience" ."We will have more children I swear it, it would be better for everyone"
"Was that the reason why you decided to have a baby"
"......."
Baldwin IV understood the meaning behind my silence. Baldwin IV sat on the bed and said "Yes, it's true that I always wanted to have a family of my own but long before I accepted my fate as leper and decided to live my life in chasity" "I am willing to go back to same life" "I thank God every day that you came in my life perhaps God gave you difficult labour because I was being greedy"
"No, love". "The kingdom needs a heir" "And I will give birth to as many children as possible" Baldwin IV understood the pressure I felt as queen replied "I know my (Y/N)" "And if you feel you don't want to go through it again" "I would have no problem with that, I will happily except our child as first and last". Baldwin IV called one of his ministers and said "Tell the council that I will be taking rest, Raymond of Tripoli could rule in my place for the time being". I was about to protest but Baldwin IV put a finger against my lips shushing me. "You were left alone during your labour, but I won't be leaving you alone after I almost lost you" "Come now love, let's sleep together" "After that we will be taking a bath together and enjoy all the activities you prefer" "You need rest" "I will ensure you won't be going out of my sight for the time being". Baldwin IV got next to me and pulled me closer. "I can't sleep" I complained
"In that case I shall tell you stories of brave knights and kings". I smiled remembering Baldwin IV loved history and foundly I watched him and he excitedly recalled the history stories he learned.

【 iv. the taste of flowers 】
summary: yuu was sick. okay, so maybe they overworked themself a little while preparing for the debutante, but that didn’t mean they needed to be on bed arrest ! what’s the worst that could happen if they snuck into the kitchen for a snack anyway ?
word count: 1.4k
author’s note: every time i write ruggie i’m like “wow i love this guy sm” and it was the same this time. i hope you like my rendition of him, ruggie likers ^^
[ the perfect debutante series | or read on ao3 (coming soon) ]

Being sick was most definitely not on Yuu's list of things to do for the Debutante. But they were. Sick. It seemed that they had over-exhausted themself after shopping all day with Floyd.
They vaguely remembered Floyd's guilty expression as he brought tea to their bedside. They had told him not to worry, but he seemed to be in low spirits for the rest of the day, according to Azul's report.
And now, well...
Yuu was sneaking into the kitchen.
After being cooped up in the room for so long, they needed some alone time. Alone time that didn't entail Riddle watching their every move like a hawk, or Silver insisting on doing everything for them. Their maids were diligent to a fault really, and Yuu was starting to feel a bit suffocated.
What they weren't expecting was that there would be someone in the kitchen. They stood behind the door. There was a soft humming and the smell of something that had their mouth-watering. Yuu cracked the door open a little. Through the gap, they spotted a pair of fluffy ears.
Ah. So it was Ruggie in the kitchen. Yuu calmed down a bit. The chance that they would be severely scolded for escaping the room had decreased. Still, they knew that someone would check their room soon, and they would get caught, so...
"Master?"
Holy crap. Their soul felt like it almost left their body.
They looked up to see Ruggie tilting his head, "I thought I heard someone, but I didn't expect it to be you, Master."
They got up from their crouched position, "Hi, uh... What are you cooking?"
"A little something for myself," Ruggie suddenly smirked, folding his arms. "What are you doing out of your room, Master? Riddle and Azul are going to freak out if they figure out you're gone."
Yuu stared at Ruggie with what they hoped was a pitiful look, "Please, I need 30 minutes of peace before they coddle me to death again."
"It's because they're worried about you. We all are," Ruggie said, going back to stirring the pot. "But I'm no snitch, shishishi~ Have a seat." There was a stool a little away from the stove, and from this close, they could finally see what Ruggie was cooking. It was...soup. A hearty-looking, vegetable soup, that was currently appealing to them with its scent.
"Are you here for some tea? Or are you hungry?" Ruggie sprinkled some more spices into his soup. "I could make you some soup?"
"What about that soup?" They blurted out. Dammit, they were trying to resist, and yet...
"This soup? It isn't worthy of Master's palette," Ruggie said before putting a lid on the small pot. "Plus, are you sure you wanna eat that?"
"What is it then?" The soup had looked normal enough to them, though they couldn't be sure. Ruggie was famed for using unconventional ingredients in his cooking before. They had heard many stories from Jamil, who found his experimentation interesting enough to talk about. (The other maid rarely talked too extensively, so Yuu had noted it in their mind when he did.)
"Erm," Ruggie's ears twitched, and he looked...almost bashful. "I used dandelions. I saw a few in the gardens and they needed to be weeded out anyway."
"Dandelions?" They cracked a smile. "So you can even cook with flowers?"
"You're not...?" Ruggie shook his head, before leaning his head back into his hands. "It's something my Bi— my grandmother taught me. There are many uses for dandelions, and she used to cook it for us in a soup."
Yuu understood it now. It had been a while since Ruggie had taken a break to go home. He tended to bulldoze through leave days that they set up by taking up other jobs. They ended up having him be their designated maid when the others went on leave. Ruggie was pleased with the setup, especially after they doubled his pay.
Money wasn't a worry to them, given that they were the heir of the Dukedom. But it had once been, back before Duke Crowley had adopted them. So they understood Ruggie's determination, especially with how fiercely he loved his family.
"Why don't you eat some?" Yuu leaned their face into their palm. "You spent all that time cooking it after all."
Ruggie's expression turned complicated for a moment. He hesitantly grabbed a bowl, ladling in a spoonful. His ears drooped for a moment before straightening. Yuu couldn't help but find the subconscious action adorable.
He finally sighed, sliding the bowl in front of them, "Here. Your puppy eyes really are unfair, Master."
"Puppy eyes?" They mumbled, but they couldn't focus on anything other than the soup that was in front of them. Ruggie pushed a spoon into their hands, and they couldn't help but immediately try it.
"Well?" Ruggie asked, ladling his own bowl. It was...amazing. The soup was salty, but rich, and all the vegetables were perfectly cooked— not too soft with a nice crunch.
And that was when Yuu abandoned two things: their etiquette training and their pride. It didn't matter that it was hot, they kept shoveling spoonfuls of soup into their mouth.
Ruggie laughed as he ate his own bowl, "Slow down there, Master. If the chefs see you they'll throw a tantrum because you're guzzling that down so fast."
"But," They sputtered, gesturing at their half finished bowl. "It's so good! I can't even tell which part the dandelion is!"
"The green leafy bits," Ruggie looked proud, if the way his grin kept growing was any indication. "I save the flowers to make tea with." The maid spun around, turning to a cupboard and grabbing what looked like a jar. In it were many dried dandelion buds. "Ah, I also have dandelion syrup," Ruggie gestured to another jar on the shelf. "Jamil taught me how to make them. They don't taste bad if I do say so myself, shishishi~"
Yuu couldn't help but laugh slightly. Ruggie's excitement about dandelion cuisine was very...adorable, if they wanted to put a word to it. "You seem very passionate about this," They said as they took the dandelion tea jar in their own hands. "Would it be okay if you put a few servings of this in my tea cabinet?"
"Huh?” Ruggie's ear flicked in surprise.
"Ah, I don't mean to take it away from you!" Yuu said, suddenly very aware that Ruggie was doing this because he was homesick. How stupid of them to ask for something so selfish. Did they forget everything after spending a few years in luxury? "I know that you're—"
"Forgive me for interrupting you, but it's not that," Grey eyes looked between the tea and their face. "It's... Thank you." There was something more behind the simple word of thanks. Yuu couldn't even begin to digest why Ruggie would say thank you at their selfish request, but seeing the smile on Ruggie's face reassured them that it wasn't anything negative.
That was when the door to the kitchen slid open, "Ruggie, would you happen to know where—"
Yuu looked up just in time to make eye contact with a surprised-looking Jade.
Oh. They were caught. Shit.
Jade smiled, ever the picture of politeness even as his aura turned more menacing, "How serendipitous. I was just looking for you, Master."
"They were just about to leave, right Master?" Ruggie said with a devilish grin. Gone was the sweet expression that just graced his face seconds before, instead replaced by this mischievous look— because he was clearly ratting them out! Yuu just hung their head. They would be scolded less if they left with Jade right away.
Jade kept an iron grip on them with just his gaze as they gave Ruggie a long hard look, "You're going on vacation after the debutante is over. With everyone else. That is a promise."
"But Master—"
"No buts! I'll give you paid leave!" Yuu said as Jade opened the door. "Just make sure to tell your family how much you miss them!" They relished the surprised look on Ruggie's face for a moment before following Jade out into the hallway. Yuu wasn't about to give Ruggie time to retaliate this time.
"Now that you've had your fun, you should return to the room before Azul and Riddle return," Jade chuckled. "They aren't back yet, but I am not above telling them of your...mm, adventures, if it came to it. Even if it's you, Master."
Their previous excitement waned at the thought of being bound to the bed again, "Let's just go now." And that was how Yuu's adventures to the kitchen ended, with surprises, some new cuisine, and a promise.
