right, so, as someone in an advanced lit class, I can not stop analyzing the fuck out of WOF characters.

especially mother fucking SUNNY.

what does she represent?

UNITY AND POWER

Let me explain. Sunny is quite literally the first ever hybrid in the books. She's written as an outcast, even in her own group, because the others veiw her as weak and incapable. Despite this, she has the ability to subtly push her friends in the right direction, frustratingly though she had to go through others. unwillingly, she is made to be reliant on others.

this is what makes her book so immensely interesting to me. Despite being seen as weak and defenseless, she does what No one else has the (metaphorical) balls to do.

She walks into what is basically the mob to ask strangers for mercy and help, offers to help said murder strangers with an immediate issue (dragonbite viper), then when threatened by a much older dragon who's using basically a 10 year old as leverage she goes with them willingly, instructing the ONE AND ONLY WITNESS to say nothing at all. THEN she survives using nothing but her wit in what has to be the most dangerous dragons lair and then escape with very little aid.

THEN she had the courage to fave said dragon again.

That's POWER. the ability to push through struggles and become loud.

what about unity?

her mother and the outclaws united to find her, she started JMA, she was the first to speak up about a lot of issues, she stepped forward to take care of Aukelts egg without hesitation. She not only physically represents unity through being a hybrid but also through her actions.

“Osha!”

Vernestra waited until she made eye contact to turn around and walk into her office. The summoning was clear to all who heard it. The Temple wasn’t exactly known for its subtlety.

“Go,” Jecki said. “I’ve got this handled, and your shift ended ten minutes ago anyway.”

Osha set down the rag she’d been using and dusted off her hands before leaving the cafe. The steel stairs to the second story shook with every step, and she wondered if there would ever be another feeling than dread that accompanied the ascent each time she made it. Vernestra was already at her desk by the time Osha knocked on the doorframe.

“Come in. Close the door, please.” This can’t be good.

Still, Osha did as she was told, and gingerly sat in the worn, padded chair in front of the desk. “Is something wrong?”

“You know Temple membership doesn’t have a non-compete clause. Members are allowed to train wherever they like. But the fact of the matter is that there have been… rumors.”

“What?”

“Rumors that you’ve been out with… less-than-reputable trainers in the city. But you should know that dipping into other forms of martial arts will only weaken your mastery in the boxing ring. I’d hate to see your injury flare again for a quick moment of feeling cool or flashy.”

Indignation flared. “Ma’am, I don’t know what you’re talking about; I only train here.”

Vernestra held up a hand, shaking her head. “This isn’t a write-up or a reprimand. You’re in a… unique position at the gym, with Sol being your father. Perception is vital in these cases, especially with competition season approaching. If we can’t show unity in force, then we may as well communicate to our competitors that we don’t stand as one.”

“But I’m not training anywhere else! I’m not even in competition anymore!”

“This isn’t a discussion, Osha. This is me letting you know that if you’re going to go behind the Temple’s back, at least do us the courtesy of being a little more discreet about it. You may go.”

“I’m—”

“You may go.”

Confusion warred with her rising emotions, making her feel a little off-balance. “I love the Temple,” Osha said weakly, but Vernestra had already started working on something else, ignoring her. Seeing that she wouldn’t be listened to, she teetered out of the office and back down the stairs.

Osha didn’t understand. Her entire life, she’d only trained at the Temple. She wanted nothing more than to follow Sol’s example—become a decorated boxing champion, a beloved and respected trainer, someone wise and good and dedicated to their passions. She’d struggled to find satisfaction in committing to boxing and boxing only, but she’d never been accused of training elsewhere.

“Everything alright?” Jecki asked once Osha emerged from around the corner.

“Yeah, I… Jecki, do you train anywhere else in the city?”

“That’s a random question.” Jecki shook her head. “I mean, sure, here and there, when everyone’s traveling for competition, or there are free skill clinics. Why?”

“And you’ve never been told you shouldn’t do that?”

Her brow furrowed. “No. There’s a lot to learn about boxing anywhere.”

“Even though you already have a mentor here?”

“Not even Sol has all the answers. He doesn’t like admitting it.” Jecki gave her a wry smile. “He knows the Temple isn’t the only gym in the city, but he generally turns a blind eye to it. Are you sure you’re alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Osha said with a sigh. “It was just a miscommunication, but… yeah, I should probably stop working so late all the time anyway. Maybe that’s what happened.”

“I’ll keep Yord away from Huyang today for you.”

“Thanks, Jecki. See you later.”

“Bye!”

Osha walked straight into a gust of bitingly cold air the second she left the cafe. Wrapping her coat tighter around herself, she let her thoughts drift like the snow the whole way home. She didn’t want to go back to the gym today, not after that strange encounter with Vernestra, but she still had a lot of that restless energy to work off.

The apartment complex had a really nice gym, complete with a heated indoor pool and a sauna. Walking between buildings in the freezing weather soaking wet after a swim sounded about as appealing as tumbling down three flights of stairs, so strength training it was. She changed in the small bathroom and put her headphones in to start a circuit on the machines, idly noting the single swimmer doing laps in the pool. Insanity. At least his shoulders look nice going by.

The burn in her upper arms and shoulders overtook the listless confusion that had plagued her since she left Vernestra’s office a half hour ago. She added more weight, relishing in the prolonged high. When it came time to work on her calves, she halted.

I’m sure you still have your old PT records, follow those exercises about thirty minutes a day.

Osha didn’t like sitting still. She had no patience to hold a plank or a wall sit for ten minutes. Her post-op physical therapist had been less than enthused by her insistence on doing reps, not holds. Sol didn’t like seeing her sit still, either. When Osha got back into boxing after everything, he’d worry about her holding a stretch for too long. He only thought she’d recovered when he saw her running again, seven months after surgery. The sense of familial camaraderie between her and him had been worth every agonizing step.

But the pain in her ankle had been flaring lately, and she still felt a worrying amount of weakness whenever she moved too fast. She couldn’t trust her body to take care of her, at least not how she used to.

Understand where your pain is. Numbing yourself to it only hides it when you’re trying to get rid of it.

Ugh. That damn stranger wouldn’t leave her mind. Still, she wanted to know if he had a point.

After going through her email archive to find her PT notes, she chose a few to try out. And if they felt silly, at least nobody would see her. The lone swimmer looked absorbed in his exercise, lost in his own world behind the glass separating the gym from the pool. Still, Osha closed her eyes and let herself rise up onto her toes, holding a calf raise for a thirty-count.

It burned deeper in her muscles than what the machines or the classes did for her. It set in faster, and by 25, 26, 27, the pain in her left ankle almost had her tapping early. But she finished the count. She sank back onto her heels, hissing at the redoubled ache in her Achilles. “Shit,” she said in a breathless laugh. She reached down to rub at the skin on either side of the purple surgery scar, and when she stood up again—

The swimmer was coming out of the water.

The stranger was coming out of the water.

He didn’t notice her, which was good because she was basically ogling him as he left the pool. In her opinion, the baggy hoodies had done the world a great disservice. The bare glimpse of the man’s forearm the night they met was enough to send her head spinning if she thought about it too long, but looking at the rest of him threatened to upend her entire world.

His shoulders held strength to them that felt evident even from a distance, even behind a pane of sweaty glass. That strength, by comparison, made Osha’s already weak knees weaker. The luscious curve of his wet biceps and triceps—fighter’s arms—caught the light the way her breath caught in her throat.

Not even the unflattering fluorescent bulbs would dare betray his muscle tone, making him look god-like down to the hollow of his throat and the shadows beneath his defined pectorals. Was it getting hotter in here? Droplets of water continued to cascade down every dip and valley of his body, pulling her focus down, down, those were his hips, and holy fuck she needed to remember how to breathe—

“Your rest is over; up on your toes again.” His voice came out a little warped and tinny through the glass, but it was definitely him. Osha startled at being caught, going up on her toes instinctually at his instruction. She met his eyes through the glass, finding him grinning at her. “Thirty-count, Osha.”

He walked off to the side where she couldn’t see him, and it was like all of the air finally returned to the room from where he stole it. It took all her willpower to hold the position, and through that effort she found she wasn’t worried at all about the situation. She saw the amenities access band on his wrist—he was a resident just like her.

28, 29—

“Down.”

Her breath left her in a rush as she dropped to her heels, turning to face him. She hadn’t even heard the door open. His stealth wasn’t a slight on her awareness; he could get under any radar and stay there. “I didn’t know you lived here.”

“Suppose we were following each other home last night.” His dark eyes dipped down her body and back up in a second. It filled her blood with fire. “I thought that was you when you walked in. Couldn’t really see with my head in the water.”

“I couldn’t tell it was you.”

“Yeah, well. I don’t often practice backstroke.” He shrugged and drifted closer. He’d put on black shoes, loose black pants, and a white shirt. It looked entirely too casual for the gym—better suited for lounging around a seaside resort or something. But he wore it all comfortably. These clothes didn’t swallow him up the way the hoodie did. She could still see his defined muscles through the shirt. “How’s your ankle feeling?”

“It burns a little.”

“One to ten?”

“Like a four? Maybe?”

“Is it a four, or is it not?” His assertive, no-nonsense voice felt like touching a static-charged doorknob. She stood up straighter. “What’s your usual level of pain?”

“Isn’t that kind of a personal question? I mean, we’re basically strangers.”

He crossed his arms and leaned back against the nearest machine. “Well, I suppose there’s two options, then. You either tell me to fuck off, or you ask me whatever questions you have to assuage your doubts about me.”

Tension rose in the space between them. Those two words, crass and short, sat comfortably on her tongue like always. Fuck off. Even if those chance meetings were simply coincidence, Osha was certain that if she told him to leave her alone, he would. With how he’s carefully controlling his face, he doesn’t want her to know just how dismayed he’d be if she told him to fuck off. The bare flicker of tenderness in his eyes is what sealed her decision.

“I’ve been at a four daily since the snow started falling. It’s maybe two points higher now since I started exercising.”

His lips curled into a smile, and so did hers.

“Your rest is over, Osha. Up on your toes.”

He was patient. He angled himself beside her to see the list of exercises her PT team had prescribed to her, reading off her phone. He murmured through explanations of the movements she’d suffered the monotony of, and made them sound interesting. This close, she could see how his hair still slightly dripped from the pool, darkening the white of his shirt whenever droplets dove into it.

And when she did the exercises for him, his focus never wavered. His attention was that of an eagle’s, offering brief corrections but never touching her. “Higher,” he said. “Until it burns. Don’t stop—no, straighten out. Good.”

He had her go through her full range of motion. Occasionally, he’d have her repeat certain movements, and then he had her show him how she stretched. The way he watched her made her feel naked, but still, he never touched her, and she never even took off her socks.

“Thank you, Osha.”

“What are you thanking me for?” She took a long drink from her water bottle and picked up her gym bag, preparing for the walk back to her building.

“For trusting me. I knew you were in pain, and it’s… if I’m honest, it’s been worrying me in my spare time and thoughts.”

“I’ve been on your mind?” She didn’t mean it to come out that way, of course. Still, the moment she realized how it sounded, she couldn’t bring herself to regret it.

He did not shy from it, letting his lips curve into another slow smile while his eyes traced her form. “Can you blame me?”

She exhaled slowly, trying to shake the slight discomfort his appraisal gave her. “You’re a… mysterious man.”

“I’m an open book.”

“I doubt that—”

“For you.”

Osha pulled up short, midway through zipping up her jacket. The stranger closed distance with her as she stood in front of the door. Like this, they mimicked how they had stood in the darkened shop the last two nights. Her, looking up at him, a cold wall to one side.

“If there’s anything you want to know about me, I’ll tell you. That’s not something I offer to anybody.”

“Does my sister have carte blanche like I do?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“I’ve known her two years and she didn’t trust me enough to hear the truth when I spoke it. Why would I let someone in if all they’d do is call my life a lie?”

His assessment of Mae disquieted her. Mae was a kind girl and a sharp fighter—a great sister. When Sol had taken them in, she hadn’t trusted him for a while either, but eventually her opinion had changed. “Did you give her reasons not to trust you?”

“I gave her what she needed from me. Trust was never part of that. But… this is really something that you should talk to her about. What did she say when you asked her about me?”

“She wouldn’t say much. I was planning on asking her tonight.”

“Then do that. If you have any other questions about it, you can ask, but you should trust your sister first.” Don’t trust me blindly, his eyes said.

“Alright. I’ll ask her first.”

“What else do you want to know?”

Quite the powerful question. Osha didn’t know where to start. “If I asked about the first night we met, would you tell me it was coincidence?”

“Would you believe me if I told you it was?”

“If that was the truth.”

The stranger’s eyes glittered with amusement, a muscle in his jaw flexing as he thought over her words. “The first time, yes. The second time, no. I wanted to see you again.”

Osha’s heart did flips in her chest, a desperate translation of what her mind was doing. “What do you want from me?”

“I…” His brow furrowed. “That’s a very complicated answer.”

“It could be. Or it couldn’t.”

“The list of reasons why is ever-growing, but at the top of it, I want you to trust me enough that I might help you the way I know how to.”

The motion sensors in the gym lobby cut the lights from their lack of movement, plunging them both into half-darkness.

“And why do you want to help me?”

“I know what it’s like to be cast aside for an injury that wasn’t your fault.”

Osha’s face fell, heart dropping into her gut. “That’s—that’s not what happened. You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

If she didn’t know better, she would have said he looked almost… disappointed. “You’re right,” he said, pulling the hood of his jacket over his head. “Sorry about that.” He smiles at her, a toothy grin that doesn’t really meet his eyes. “Ask your sister who I am. Maybe you’ll take the fuck off option next time I offer it.”

With that, he disappeared in a swirl of snow for the third time.

Okay so I just played through the newest chapter and ISUSJSHSIDBDJDHDJJSHS I have a lot of things to say!

First of all, I kind of didn't expect Esmond to act the way he does??? I expected him to be the super-stoic character who like, never smiles, but he smiled like 2 minutes into talking with Capella which took me out ISISHSISBJSBE– but I can't say I'm upset about that! In fact I liked seeing him all smiley, it felt very nice, and I do like his more calm demeanor. (I also gave him a British accent while playing through the chapter USHSUSBDHBS I don't know why xD...)

Second of all, I hope we get to see Furnando, like, actually see him. He intrigues me a lot, and I just really wanna see him interact with Capella. I also may or may not have a thing for eccentric gingers but sjshsbisbe you didn't hear that from me–

Third of all, this is a bit of a minor thing, but were those lines towards the end of Esmond and Capella's conversation a reference to Here For Sweethearts? Specifically "I hope I never break your heart", that really reminded me of Nova and their shenanigans. Though I truly hope (and believe) that Capella isn't like that, she just seems to be too genuinely sweet to be hiding any ill intentions.

Oh, and speaking of Capella hiding things...

...WHY? WHY THE CLIFFHANGER, ARCADE??? WHAT IS GOING ON–

Haha, yes! I was very excited for people to see Esmond's true colors! I was able to see people theorizing (even some thinking he would secretly be like Reggie or even Lambchop!) but he is very sweet! I think he and Capella are some of the "mushiest" and sentimental across the group, so they instantly click once they actually start talking. ===

I'm so happy you like him!! I ended up liking him a lot more than I thought I would too, and while I don't want to say too much about his other appearances, I don't think he's a one-and-done type deal... 👀 ===

It's quite the parallel, isn't it? But no worries! I don't think we've got any pathospires in this circus! (currently...kidding, kidding!)

Hahahaha, I do LOVE to see reactions to the cliffhanger when I can catch them though!! I really can't wait to get the next chapter out! I was hoping to get a headstart on it, but personal-life-matters have actually put me at a bit of a late start! Like, honestly, when they were getting my vtube model ready, there were a couple calls we were on and it was just really cool watching them do what they do. 'Cause like I don't know, I just think watching people doing their craft is fascinating. Oof…. I'm kind of annoyed for future me's sake. (I thought my ramble was longer when I was saying it lol) And they sometimes stream Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix on their Twitch as well, and unlike a lot of people, they're actually really good at the game. SHES the bad one. the one people worry for. the yin yang prophecy. the twins reborn. the perfect unity. everyone thinks she’ll become exiled one day. that she’ll let the darkness consume her and won’t fight it. higher ups warn gojo. warn him of the prophecy. because it’s only natural the off spring of the strongest would cause a rift in the jujustu world. the whispering clans. they’re waiting. they’re waiting til they have the chance to remove her. they didn’t need another person like gojo running around.

HOWEVER, they say the same about Yang. the twins weren’t ever given a fair chance.

yin’s heartbreak is always from a misunderstanding. she thought she was with someone. that what they had was special. that they cared for her. then when she hears them talking about going on a date with someone, her heart shatters. she’s confused.

she talks to them. they say that they act like this with everyone. that they thought she knew they were just friends. that she never said anything. that they were never dating.

and all she can say is oh. they apologize. she just shakes her head, placing her sunglasses over her blue eyes to hide the forming tears. “nah.. it’s fine— relationships aren’t for me anyways, yknow?” with a lazy smirk on her lips. she waves bye and walks away.

finding her brother and immediately collapsing into him. he removes her glasses and just hugs her.

I’m coining this get rekt

This is the PLC flag,, pup-lov-cat n I don’t know if this has been coined before so it’s whatever (lmk if it has been coined lmao)

It’s for people who identify under the pupgender or catgender umbrellas, and who prioritize their attraction to pupgender and catgender individuals. (Both!! Not just one)

The top colours of the flag are all colours on the pupgender flag to represent them, and the bottom colours are all colours present on the catgender flag for the same reason. The one colour they have in common, which is blue, is in the middle to represent unity and love between people, and then the small white is to represent the barriers that are easily overshadowed by the blue.

Ok is this the BATTS or Raines adopted kids? I'm gonna answer for the latter, cause they have more adopted kids than just the three!

And it's gonna get long so I'll put it under the cut!

Amber: Sweet baby girl. I love and adore her. She strikes me as the kind of person who acts mean at first because she's been hurt in the past (likely by her parents), but she also gets attached quickly when shown the slightest amount of affection from a potential parental figure. Hence her reaction to Eda (from "I don't think she'd be a good fit" to "BYE MAMA EDA!")

Katya: My giiiiirl! You write your fanfics baby I love you!! I'm so glad she came back to be a more important part of the story! I loved her in the first episode, so seeing her again as part of the BATTS was so awesome! She deserves to write about food and food being in love! While toppling the empire!

Derwin: The lad! I love his design, and his little two handed wave when he met Luz was so sweet! He strikes me as the strong but silent type, preferring actions over words. But he's still a silly goofy guy! He's just quiet about it! And this it total headcanon, but I imagine he had a bit of a rough life that lead him to his quiet disposition, likely bullying and mistreatment from his school mates or those who thought the Bard Coven was dumb. But he's a fighter, he's sweet, and he loves his found family with all his heart!

Luz: Sweet baby girl I love her so much pls Dana let her be happy!!! I love Luz as a character, the way she's grown, the way she interacts with the world around her, the way she accepted the boiling isles and all it's wild magical danger, and still changed it so much! She made friends, which lead to the entire day of unity being taken down. She reunited Eda and Lilith which lead to Belos's reign (I didn't say all the changes were good). She started dating Amity which lead to her gf's parents divorce! :D She's just such a strong, loving, caring, crafty, creative, amazing character. I love her endlessly!

King: He is baby. Pls protecc him. He's just a little guy!! He's been going through so much pls Dana! Now, King wasn't my favorite character when I first saw him. I thought he was cute, and endearing in an annoying younger sibling way. But he's grown so much, and he's such a caring kid. He wanted to be a king, but he became so much more. I love his brief friendship with Steve, and I wish they could have explored it more. I love his relationships with his family, and I really hope he and the others reunite soon.

And this one isn't exactly supported by canon yet, but I'm counting it.

Hunter: SWEET SON BOY LOVE OF MY LIFE BAD BUT SAD BOY I LOVE YOOOOOU! Ahem. Yes. Anyways. I adore Hunters character. He went from an intimidating presence in the shadows, to an awkward, shy, but caring lad just wanting a chance to find himself amidst all the chaos in his life. hey stupid post incoming (i don’t usually post theories cuz i’m dum as shit) but my horrible little ADHD brain can't stop thinking about this now what the FUCK does this mean

i thought there was weird emphasis on that symbol in that last episode but that last post made it super obvious, except now im wondering beyond the fact that they're similar. it's pretty common for important families to have some sort of family crest, could this have been the wittebane family crest? or more specifically, something pertaining especially to the brothers - and then, considering that possibility and the rearrangement of some of the elements, really had me wondering. so. hear me out-

this leans on the 'belos is phillip' theory, but the wings represent each of the brothers. the larger pair is phillip, the smaller pair represent this ~ * ~ mystery brother ~ * ~. it's interesting that the brother's wings are on the top in the original symbol, above the pair that would represent phillip. perhaps this brother was more well-regarded than him, more notable, leaving phillip in his shadow? that's sort of even backed up by the position of their statues if you want to look at it that way, with the brother boldly placed in front and phillip in the back, not looking as much of a 'leader type' than his brother

in the coven badge, the larger pair of wings is now on top, and the smaller pair on the bottom - and notably, there is a sword through the bottom pair of wings. this just seems like a cool design choice, but i think it might be a metaphor for the fact that Phillip killed his brother. it's already been said that it’s extremely suspicious there’s no mention of his brother in his journal at all, and it's suspicious that there's a second pair of boot prints leading to Eclipse Lake (but not returning) in his retelling that match his own. Phillip obviously didn’t like his brother very much.

My theory?

The Emperor's Coven badge represents making an example of the first person that opposed the man who would become Belos - his own brother.

What reasons would he have to kill his own brother? I can think of a few possibilities.

1. We know Belos' hatred of wild magic supposedly stems from the fact that it took his family, and we know he himself is cursed under mysterious circumstances. He and Eda have some parallels, could it be that, much like Eda, his own sibling was responsible? Except, he found out about it much sooner than she did, and either lashed out in rage, or lost control of himself and killed him by mistake? In both cases, intentional or not, wild magic caused the death of the brother with Phillip as the catalyst.

2. Could it be that Phillip saw natural dangers to wild magic and thought up the coven system, or a similar way to restrain magic? His brother disagreed, saying magic should be kept the way it is, and eventually causing a fight that would lead to the brother’s death? In this case, it wouldn’t necessarily be wild magic directly that took his family, but rather his family’s attachment to it.

3. The other brother was dabbling openly with magic, but his inexperience or cockiness with it caused the death of friends and family they had made in the demon realm, leaving only the two brothers. (Maybe even also cursing his brother in the process?) Phillip has a damn good and direct reason to hate wild magic now, and kills his brother in revenge.

4. FOURTH IDEA I’M THROWING IN HERE REAL QUICK BEFORE POSTING: A twist on the previous idea, Phillip was also dabbling in wild magic, and it was his own inexperience with it that caused the death of his brother, and he shifted the blame to wild magic as a whole to cope.

To take a quick tangent, if we consider the "Rascal was the other Wittebane brother's palisman" theory - it would be interesting if Rascal's scar was from trying to defend his original witch from Belos in the fight that would ultimately claim his life. It would parallel Hunter’s scars too, or at least the one on his face which is implied to have come from Belos.

None of these theories account for why Belos would bring back his brother as Hunter if he wanted him dead so bad though (unless you take #4, in which his death was truly an accident), or his connection to the titan, or why he wants to get back to the human realm 🤔 (magic doesn’t work all that well in the human realm, it would be Really funny if he was just trying to get here in hopes that his curse would go away once he did asdkfljskldf. “bye losers, i’m off to the realm where magic cancer can’t catch me”) But I keep thinking about Dana’s line from the AMA, that “witch & human lifespans are identical, unless they find a way to extend them...” implying that people have done that before.

Like Phillip.

Except my only problem with that is why the hell did Phillip wait like 350 years before becoming emperor?? What was he doing that whole time, sitting in a cave somewhere?? It’s strange that he doesn’t seem to like wild magic because it took something personal from him, implying he thinks he’s keeping people safe and doing them a favor - but at the same time it’s sort of set up that the real reason they’re restricting magic is to keep people weaker and give more power to the covens, which they apparently need for the “day of unity”. The whole “wild magic killed my family :^(” shtick might be a lie entirely, or a severe twisting of the truth. We know Belos is manipulative as hell, who knows if his fondness of the human realm is even genuine? Something, somewhere about what he says is horse shit, but we don’t have enough pieces yet to figure that out. But I’m getting ahead of myself, I meant to just ramble about the connections between this symbol and the Emperor’s Coven badge asldkfkjldf. There’s more mysteries here obviously and we’ve got a whole half season and a mini-season to go.

tl;dr the symbol from the historical society is very directly connected to the Wittebane brothers, Phillip is Belos, Phillip killed his brother and this fact is represented in the Coven badge as what happened to the first person to truly oppose Belos and also what arguably kicked off the empire in the first place.

Glad I PIQUED YOUR CURIOSITY 🥴. I'm going to address them by order of appearance because I've not much knowledge of the band and their names, so if you wouldn't mind telling me after the fact that'd be great ✨!

1. Oooookay, a two-toned pants moment. I also see he's got a fishing-net situation going on on his shoulder, and a nut-and-bolt ordeal on the vest.

The color palette? There's nothing wild going on, I like it! But the overall unity, I feel like he could've gave us more. The shirt bolts could have very well also embellished the sides of his pants, or even the waist area! Small details like that are more impactful to fashion thirsters such as myself.

That snake bracelet is totally random and can go somewhere far away, though. The wraps work well as just black, but a grey to emphasize his shoulder detailing wouldn't have killed anyone.

But the outfit does still work, it's just a bit bland to me.

2. Oh hey he's hot, but unlike the flames on his shirt alluded to, the outfit is not. I'm sorry but in comparison to what everyone else has going on, I'd swear he was a fan and not a member. It has no flare, it isn't doing anything for me.

Plus he's not coordinating omggg everyone's having a chest peak moment and he's there in a t-shirt. Without totally changing his entire look I can't really fix this as it is.

I would have gave him a vest similar to 1's with yellow lines going down the side like his pants, a yellow headband, he could keep the wrist wraps, and then possibly a some sort of dangle-necklace, those always work well when you've got your chest out.

Now this may make him look like he came right out of Stryper but 😩☠️ it'd of been cute.

3. OKAY A SINGLET-SHIRT, those and chest hair are always a happy couple, so I do like that. It also has a yellow-edge to match with 2's pants, and we're back to bolts to match with 1's vest.

I'm not feeling that mix-and match belt extravaganza. I can tell whoever did that thought it'd be extravagant, but it's out of place. A ring... And a square... And punch-holes... And diamond rhines... hahaha. Good-bye to the ringed belt, goodbye to the golden diamond rhines.

Keep the square buckle, replace the golden rhines with silver sequin, because the base of the shirt is sequin and silver bolts.

Take away whatever that extra shirt is under the main shirt, and make that glove black with yellow trim. I get he's coordinating the white with 4, but if we're talking a stand alone outfit choice, GOODBYE!

4. He's adorable first of all 🥴✨, and frankly the only thing I'm really not into about his outfit is the belt. It's tacky, I would have put him in a more glam chain-like belt made of bolts. But his outfit works in its own sense, the wrist wraps, the shirt style, everything. Maybe a white line going down the sides of the pants if you wanted to get fancy, but it really doesn't need it.

5. Not him being sexy and having a sexy outfit! It's like his outfit has all the elements I gave to everyone else's COMBINED, I LOVE THE DIRECTION OF IT!

Not digging the purple as far as coordination with his other members goes, no one else is in purple and it's making me tick. Well.... wellllll, a darker black-purple?! I just don't like the brightness of the purple, it isn't ugly but it just doesn't please me.

A darker color would've made the little yellow detailing pop more, which would have been hot. But again I do actually like the design of it, I can't get mad at it.

Creator Log 3

A good bit was done since the last log and I'm quite glad with the progress. Well, all the progress is in the game of course bc it's the only thing I've had in my brain for the past few weeks, sadly not any of my comics or writing but oh well

Anyways I managed to make another shitty prototype making use of unity's tiling system and starting to implement some placeholder graphics that are actual drafts of the images rather than just screenshots of memes lol. (For context, here is the first prototype I made while just starting to figure out how unity even works:)

The motion I've achieved for the player character has definitely improved a lot however I'm definitely not happy with it yet either, as I'd like to have a very snappy jump but I am struggling to mess with unity's built in physics engine so I've been reading up on that.

I've also worked a bit on character designs as well as a possible map for a location. Here's the entrance to a building inside a tree that I liked a lot:

When it comes to my coding, the character controller script is truly an absolute mess, pure spaghetti code, since I didn't really plan what i was gonna do beforehand and so I keep adding things and it gets messier and messier, so for sure in the future I'm going to rewrite the whole thing to be more organized and actually readable lol. What I Thought About "Eda's Requiem" from The Owl House

Salutations, random people on the internet who certainly won’t read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons.

...HOW IS SEASON TWO SO GOOD?! WE'VE HAD SEVEN EPISODES SO FAR, AND EACH ONE OF THEM WAS A HIT!

Take "Eda's Requiem," for example. It's yet another episode where I have NOTHING bad to say about it! That's two weeks in a row where that happened! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?!

HOW!

HOW!

...But anyways, "Eda's Requiem." It's another fantastic episode, and I'm about to dive into explaining how and why. Just keep in mind, it's gonna require spoilers to do so, so be wary of that as you keep reading.

Now, let's review, shall we?

WHAT I LIKED

Eda’s Checklist and Grom Photo: Within the first second, "Eda's Requiem" perfectly sets up Eda's central conflict in the episode. Despite spending years being on her own and looking after herself, she now has two kids that she's constantly caring over. Eda can try all she wants to say that she doesn't care, and I bet she has in the past. But given the hard work she's putting into getting King and Luz what they need and having a grom photo of the three of them together pinned in her mirror, it's pretty clear that those two knuckleheads wormed their way into her heart and are never getting out.

Eda’s Worried About King and Luz Leaving: And thus, that's precisely why something like this bothers her so much. Eda inadvertently adopted two rambunctious rapscallions (Yeah, I know. I'll get to it), so the idea of them not being around her anymore is going to be terrifying. That is a situation most parents, especially mothers, can identify with. It’s called empty nest syndrome and it proves just how much Eda loves Luz and King that she can't stand the thought of her babies leaving the nest. It's yet another well-made, wholesome, found-family moment that this series continues to excel at each week, making me extra excited for more like it to come...while also readying myself for heartbreak when one of them eventually does leave Eda.

Eda and Raine’s Music: Ok, I don't know the exact instruments that were played during this episode, but I also don't care because it was all (for lack of a better term) music to my ears. Every time Eda and Raine played resulted in melodies that are so beautiful and filled with so much emotion and feeling that I'm honestly tempted to listen to them again, multiple times, on repeat. Shows rarely do that for me, as background music doesn't always draw me in as much as lyrical songs do. Usually, it takes something so extraordinarily composed to give me the desire to listen again, and that's the case here. So huge congrats to Brad Breek for doing so. Seriously, the man's been killing it this season.

Eda’s Bard Magic Causing Things to Turn to Ash: This was assuredly a surprise side-effect of the curse. The fact that Eda can sort of do magic at all was its own shock. To then reveal that a specific type can do dangerous things to people and environments is...Well, it definitely brings up its own fair share of questions. Like, how can she do this? Will she do it again, one day? And are there other types of spells that can be negatively affected by Eda's curse? We don't get answers for any of these questions, and odds are, we never will. But that's alright with me. Because if a show makes me consider these many possibilities after a brief amount of time, it is a show that has to be doing something right. Even if I don't get the answers I want, the fact that it caused such a reaction makes me less willing to care.

Raine Whispers: Hey, would you look at that. Another fun, interesting, and compelling character added to the list of this shows' other fun, interesting, and compelling characters...how is this series so good at this!?

Joking aside, Raine's pretty good. I like Raine. They could have been this super serious leader who lost all their fun after years apart from Eda, but I'm glad that they're not. There are moments when Raine takes their job as leader of the BATs seriously, as one would, but I still prefer the fact that they kept a jovial nature despite how grim their situation is. It's an admirable trait to have, and it avoids the trope of making leader characters boring just because they're the ones who have to take things seriously.

Oh, and also, Raine's Disney's first non-binary character who has a stake in the plot. This is a tremendous deal, as you don't usually see that many non-binary characters in children's animation, let alone ones that hold importance to the story. So it's pretty cool for the writers to feature Raine, as it helps several kids feel as though they're finally seen and respected. And the fact that Disney of all companies gave the thumbs up is even more impressive. I hear people say that Dana Terrace should have pitched The Owl House to more progressive networks to avoid pushback, and while I absolutely see your point, I'll have to respectfully disagree. Disney is the largest entertainment industry of all time, so if you want to make LGBTQA+ representation normalized, you gotta stop making splashes and start making waves. Because if the same company that made three racist cats in the span of a few years manages to say that being gay is a-ok, then you know there's something wrong with you. Yes, Disney ended up screwing over the show anyway. But for that one moment, when kids felt pride after seeing a character like Raine, then, in the end, it's kind of worth it.

Also, if you're still having issues with more representation like this popping up in kids' shows, then allow me to redirect you to the complaint department.

Day of Unity is meant to be a Secret: At least, that's what I got when Raine stumbled over their own words. So if it's true, then I wonder why? Why does Belos want to keep the most critical change in the Boiling Isles a secret? Does he want to make it a surprise for his grateful subjects, or does he not want to spread worry and fear amongst the wild witches? It has to be something big if he doesn't want his followers to even say the words "Day of Unity." Whatever reason he has, we most likely won't know until the future. A future that I grow more and more afraid of each week.

Hooty Eating Echo Mouse: My heart sank in that brief moment when I thought that Hooty intensely screwed Luz over in getting back home. But looking back...it is pretty funny.

Just the suddenness of Hooty eating the poor creature that Luz desperately tried to earn its trust is priceless in how shocking it was. And also, Luz's expression.

That was the look of a young girl who immediately shoved her hand down an owl demon's throat the second the scene cut away. The Owl House may not always be a hit in the comedy department, but scenes like this prove that when it's funny, it is hilarious.

Luz and King Entering the Grand Prix: Not much to discuss here. It's just a cute subplot that adds frivolity to the intensity of what's going on through Eda and Raine's story. But I will say that I love how both stories occasionally interconnect with each other through the many moments of Eda being worried about King wanting to leave to find his father and avoiding any conversation about it. It helps both plotlines feel like they belong together, without being something like "Through the Looking Glass Ruins," whereas both stories could have been in their own episode. Which is neat.

How Bard Magic Works: I really love how this season is diving into how the other magic types work. More specifically, the ones that seem a little vague. I mean, stuff like healing, potions, and plants are easy to figure out, but what does it mean when a witch's talents are construction, beast keeping, and bard magic? We've been getting a lot of clearing up lately, with bard magic looking like a witch can control their environments and enemies through the power of music. Which is fair. Music is pretty powerful in the metaphorical sense, and I actually love that it's powerful in the literal sense when in the Boiling Isles.

The BATs: Not much to comment on these three either. The BATs have the potential to have an entertaining dynamic, but they do very little in this episode that I can't say much other than I hope they make a return in the future. But I will make this claim: Amber is my favorite. I'm sorry, but her screaming "You're not our mom!" to then go, "Bye, mommy Eda" is just too precious for me not to love.

I'm a simple man who falls for cute s**t. Leave me alone.

Raeda (RainexEda): Well, EdaxCamila, you were a fun crack ship while it lasted, but I'm afraid that this is now goodbye. The current canon has provided an incredibly adorable and believable relationship that I would be a monster not to support with my whole bi-heart. It's been real.

Ok, back in serious mode: I love these two together. Eda and Raine are grown-ups, and they still act all flustered near each other as if they were still Luz and Amity's age. It's definitive proof that you're never too old to get flustered near a crush, and seeing them interact adds a sense of wholesomeness when seeing them together as well as heartbreak when they're forced apart. Plus, we get confirmation that Eda's LGBTQA+! Whether she's bi, pan, or whatever, now that we know Eda can catch feelings for someone like Raine, it's yet another case that The Owl House is the most important series to the community. Because having the main character be queer is fantastic in its own right. But having the same apply to the motherly mentor figure? That's is an extra bit of normalization that anybody would be willing to appreciate.

Unique Guard Designs: Not many fans are going to appreciate this, primarily compared to everything else this episode does perfectly. For me, I actually like that you see a few Coven Guards looking differently from the others, as it helps make them less like clones and makes it seem like anybody of any body type could be a part of the coven.

Gus Looking Uninterested when Presenting Grand Prix with his Dad: I am positive that you didn't notice this (I didn't even notice it until someone else pointed it out), but there's something to dissect here. It hints that perhaps Gus isn't as interested in his father's field of work as one might think. If he did, he would look a lot less bored and much more excited to be helping Perry Porter present the race. It could just be the race itself, but judging from Gus' expression, it really seems like the kid would prefer to be anywhere but there. And why would he have that reaction to a race that his best friend is competing in? To me, this seems like an inkling of what Gus' relationship with Perry could be, which may not actually get time to shine, what with how little wiggle room the series has now (Thanks Disney). Regardless, it is interesting to notice, and it will certainly have fans thinking for a while.

Bump Being Smug of Luz Being in the Lead: That's it. Principal Bump looking smug as his human student is beating the students of his rivals is yet another moment that proves why Bump is easily the best cartoon principal.

Darius: First of all, this guy is f**king fabulous, and I love him. *Snaps*

Second, he is definitive proof that you do NOT want to f**k around with Coven Leaders. Lilith may have had her intimidating moments, but none of them compare to the guy who can turn himself into an abomination monster where only magic that hasn't existed before can take him down. It's genuinely scary to see Darius lose control, and I fear for the day when Luz inevitably ends up in his crosshairs.

With that said, Darius' still a ton of fun! He may be threatening, but he's just a flamboyant guy that hates the idea of getting his outfit the tiniest bit dirty. And I love that. I love that these Coven Heads have actual personalities instead of being generically evil. I consider it preferable to make villains entertaining rather than blatantly scary as I'll remember the personalities first and the villainous acts last.

Eberwolf: But this one's my favorite. I told you: I'm a simple man who gets easily swayed by cute s**t. And Eber? I mean, just look at her:

She's just a cute widdle rascal! I just want to pinch her cheeks, give her a belly rub, and--

...Eberwolf is not a cute widdle rascal. She is a strong, independent woman, and I will respect her as such from this moment forward...lest I feel her wrath.

That is all. Let's move on.

Eda and Raine Attempting a Final Performance: This was the best scene of the episode. It looked gorgeous, it shows the dedication Eda and Raine have for stopping Belos, and it says so much through so little. Go back and look at how Eda and Raine regard one another when performing Eda's requiem. Through their expressions and a few short words, you know they understand that if they complete the song/spell, they probably won't make it in the end. And yet, they don't care. They both know bad stuff will happen if Belos wins, so Eda and Raine put everything to the side, both their feelings for one another and the people they leave behind if it means putting an end to a tyrant. That level of dedication...Words can't fully describe how powerful that is.

Raine Sacrificing Themselves Instead: But in the end, Raine can't do it. Not when they know the life that Eda has and the people she'll be leaving behind. It's an extra bit of nobleness to the character seeing that Raine refuses to take away a woman from two kids who need her the most. A tad bit selfish, sure, knowing what Belos has planned. But when it comes to love, the romantic, familial, or platonic, the best decisions aren't always the logical ones.

Eda Crying: Luz crying tears me up, but seeing Eda cry is a whole different level of heartbreak. Like Lilith, Eda has her emotions locked up tight, with the closest she came to weeping were those two tears in "Young Blood, Old Souls." In "Eda's Requiem," she cries but almost quickly stops herself. As if she knows that doing so isn't going to save Raine. That is...even worse than seeing Luz break down after losing Eda. The fact that Eda refuses to give herself time to mourn losing someone she loved is tragic because crying is the most natural way of showing grief. Turning that off isn't healthy, and seeing her do it with little resistance is sad to me. It's sad to see a character I love can easily shut off all emotions despite how badly she may want to embrace them. It's one of those moments that, again, by doing so little, it shows so much.

“No one watches Crystal Balls anymore. It’s all about streaming.”: Oof. Even I felt that burn towards cable.

King’s Message: King's message was the pick-me-up I needed after the heart-wrenching sadness this episode put me through a few minutes ago. Seeing King say who he is and listing all the things he loves is nothing short of adorable. On top of that, I adore that Eda willingly recorded the whole thing. She may not want King to leave, but that doesn't mean she'll sabotage the one thing he wants. Especially not after Raine gave up everything so Eda could be with her kids. The opening scene may prove how much Eda cares about a rascal like King, but this heartwarmingly sweet moment reveals just how far she'll go to make him happy.

King’s Dad Reveal: ...ok, I'll be honest, I did not think we'd get that reveal this soon. Dumb of me to say, considering the number of times I've said that these writers don't waste time getting to the s**t, I know. But still, it's pretty cool knowing that King's dad is alive and well, added with the fact that we've got a fair idea of what he looks like. At this point, it's only a matter of time before we see him figure out where the Clawthorne residence is and witness the tear-jerking moments that will follow.

King Changing his Name to King Clawthorne: Not the official adoption I was expecting Eda to make...but DANG IT, is it still diabetes-inducing levels of sweetness!

Personally, I feel like the main reason why Eda breaks down this time is not only because she shouldn't be worried about King leaving her life, but also because Raine's sacrifice wasn't in vain. Her kids really do need Eda because no matter how far apart they'll be, she will always be a part of their life...dang it, I'm going to cry too!

What those Coven patches really do: Well...that was horrifying to see.

...Writers, if you kill off the best non-binary character in animation (it's a short list, I know), we are going to have PROBLEMS!

IN CONCLUSION

"Eda's Requiem" is--surprise surprise--another A+. The emotions hit hard, the representation hits harder, Raine is a fantastic addition to the cast, and it was all surprisingly cute at times. Season Two is currently on a hot streak, constantly winning with every episode that's come out so far. When a bad episode does eventually show up (IT'S GONNA HAPPEN!), I'll be sure to sing my requiem then. For now, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.
