HI this is low key embarrassing to ask but I like your writing so ill get over it. But could you write something involving ao'nung x human reader where ao'nung is very suspicious of them and overall doesn't trust them until he sees the reader interacting with some kind of sea life and begins liking the reader, but even with his love for the reader all he can think about is that they could never mate before ewya

when y/n heard the sully’s were going to leave the omatikaya clan, they became restless and felt like their only family (besides norm and max. love the two) was going to leave them. what sucks was they were human and can’t stay outside without their oxygen mask. even if they wanted to go with the sully’s, how can they survive? how would the other na’vi clans react if they see a sky person in the flesh? the very creature that disturbed pandora’s peace.
the amount of begging y/n had to do to norm and max, along with the heads of the sully family, just for them to come with wherever they go. the kids would love to bring y/n with them because they were their best friend, their sibling of some sort, but with was up to jake and neytiri if they can come with.
after a very long talk and repercussions, the scientists and na’vi heads allowed y/n to come with. they have to make sure to always norm and max to update them on their oxygen levels, stay with at least one of the sully’s at all times in order to not get harmed and get lost, and lastly, get help from jake on how they can eat because how can they with the oxygen mask? just 10 seconds without the mask is just death but with jake’s help, they can eat without any problems.
when they set off with their ikrans, y/n road with neteyam and they catch up with so many things they both missed since neteyam was busy with his trainings and y/n busy helping around the lab.
when the sully’s arrived on the reef, gasps left the metkayina’s mouths as they take in y/n’s figure. why did these outsiders bring this curse upon their home??
ronal was going to pull y/n away from neteyam but wasn’t able when the sully’s protected their little human friend with their bodies.
jake had asked for safety, saying they didn’t want to do anything with war and just wanted their family safe.
while everything was happening, ao’nung and tsireya looked at the sully kids. although, ao’nung’s eyes drifted to the sky person’s figure. he was anything but happy. why the hell would these forest na’vi’s bring the very thing that was destroying pandora?
“tsireya and ao’nung would help you become one with the people.” he heard his dad say, pulling him out of his thoughts. he was disgusted that he had to help them learn their ways but what sucks, even more, is that he has to help the human even if they were deemed useless because of their height and features.
rotxo nudges ao’nung and snorts at what the olo’eyktan had just said. “who would’ve thought your’re going to teach a demon out of everything?” ao’nung scoffs and rolled his eyes. “as if i will actually teach that tiny thing.”
Tumblr media
after the sully’s had settled and a new day passed, it was time for tsireya and ao’nung to teach them how to breathe longer and hunt in the ocean.
ao’nung had stayed a good distance away from y/n, who would swim with the sully’s despite not needing to practice since they have their oxygen mask. they were told by neteyam to stay close because the waves might take them away.
“yeeaah yeaah why don’t you practice your breathing over there.” y/n would counter back at the oldest sully kid before swimming around to play with the fishes.
it was so beautiful. the fauna and flora that was so different yet they brought a sense of comfort to y/n. yeah, it was different from the forest and what they had learned about earth and its inhibitors, but it’s just… feels familiar.
ao’nung was growing impatient with the sully’s. yeah, they were getting the basics well, but he just want to go away from them. while letting neteyam learn what he was taught, his eyes caught y/n’s figure.
he was surprised, to say the least. y/n was genuinely in awe of what they saw. how a school of fish would surround the human and their shoulder would move insinuating that they might’ve laughed or were talking to the sea life.
this continued on for weeks. the sully’s got better at free-diving and were currently learning how to bond with an ilu. since y/n couldn’t bond with anything, they stayed away from the group but were still swimming around. ao’nung would unknowingly keep his eyes on them, watching what they would do next.
at first, he thought that y/n would harm anyone or anything when they arrived, but as time passed, he saw that they were just genuinely curious and were respectful to everything and everyone they passed by.
even from afar, his heart beat faster than normal. he would feel his hands sweat up a storm when y/n was close. eywa, he just wanted to protect y/n at all costs. with how tiny they were compared to him, he just wanted to keep y/n in his arms forever.
but he can’t. despite the feelings that grew, he knew there were limitations. for one, they won’t be able to have kids whether they want one or not. another is they won’t be able to kiss properly. it might as well just be the kiss of death for y/n. lastly, they won’t be able to mate before eywa. he won’t be able to feel what they feel or know what their thoughts are.
their souls wouldn’t bond into one because how can it? y/n wasn’t na’vi. they were still a sky person whether he likes it or not.
while he was sharpening his weapon, he hears someone shuffle beside him. “you know, i see how you look at y/n.” tsireya’s says softly just for them to hear. ao’nung stops his actions and sets his weapon down.
“it’s complicated, tsmuke. a sky person and a na’vi? that’s absurd! and besides, it won’t last even if they do return my feelings.” he says while picking on the wood of the weapon.
tsireya gives him a side hug and pats his arm. “you know, tsumukan, eywa is very giving. who knows, maybe they do like you too, and who knows? you and y/n will grow old beside each other.” she looks up at him, who was already looking at her.
“but, before you do tell them your feelings, make things right with the sully siblings. they have known each other for a long time and y/n says that they see the sully kids as their siblings.” tsireya pinches his arm before letting him go.
ao’nung hisses at the slight pain before rubbing the part that tsireya pinched. “also,” tsireya adds. “you didn’t hear it from me but i heard that y/n loves pearls. take that as you will.” she sends him a wink before starting to make dinner.
Tumblr media
days passed and ao’nung had been kinder to the sully’s, which they saw as weird at first but hey, baby steps matter. with this, he started chatting with y/n when he can. y/n thought that it was very kind of ao’nung to make up for his mistakes back then and saw that he was fun to be with.
then, the late-night walks started between the two. he would take her to his favorite spots where he would rewind in just take in the nature that surrounded him.
“i never really brought anyone here.” ao’nung says while scratching the back of his neck. “really now?” y/n raises their eyebrow playfully followed by a chuckle.
ao’nung hums in reply before sitting down by the shore. y/n sits beside him and watches the water glow around their feet. “i could never get over how the ocean and forest glow at night.” y/n says softly while moving their hand through the water.
ao’nung breathes in heavily before taking out a necklace that he had made beforehand. he nudges y/n’s arm before handing the gift, his gaze away as his face flushed a darker blue.
y/n looks at the gift and it was adorned with beautiful pearls, wrapped in sturdy vines that complemented the shapes of the pearls. “it’s so beautiful…” they immediately turned around and softly asked ao’nung if he could put it on them.
ao’nung reluctantly put the necklace around y/n’s neck, his fingers lingering on their skin before pulling away.
“thank you so much, ao’nung. i didn’t know you were going to give me something. i could’ve made you something too.”
ao’nung just hums in reply and shakes his head. “you didn’t have to. i, uh, wanted to make this and surprise you with it.” he played with the sand below them, his heart ready to jump out of his chest as he felt y/n move closer to him.
“still, i wish to make you something in return.” they cautiously leaned against his arm but when he moved them closer, arm around their small figure, they leaned their head against his chest.
“you coming with me during nights like this is enough.” he gently holds y/n’s hand before leaning down and giving the back of their hand a kiss.
y/n’s cheeks flushed but didn’t pull away from his hold. oh eywa, is this what it's like to have feelings so someone even if you two are different in so many ways? it’s selfish and wrong, but, it just feels so right.
with or without the queue, it felt like they feel each other's feelings, know each other's thoughts, and their souls bonding into one despite being different. y/n stood up and leaned down to ao’nung’s forehead, taking in his figure as his hands wrapped around their waist easily. eywa is good and kind, maybe she can give them a blessing.
“i see you.”

Arranged (Ao’nung x y/n x Neteyam)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had been a couple weeks since the forest people had arrived and life was back to normal. For most people but you had caught the eye of the oldest Sully brother. Since day one he would take any chance to talk to you or just be near you but you refused to acknowledge or accept his feeling.
Because you were promised to the son of the Olo’eyktan since childhood though you weren’t exactly against it he was always genuine, kind and gentle with you, you two grew up always together until the Sully’s came he didn’t like them and there differences but you happily accepted them and helped them which bothered him.
Not only because of your kindness to them but because he too realised Neteyam’s behaviour around you and it made him incredibly jealous.
Neteyam had recently joined your hunting party and Ao’nung was not happy about it.
That morning before leaving with everyone Ao’nung had pulled you aside to voice his frustration about Neteyam. “Does he really have to come!” “Yes your father wants him to learn” you say holding his hand “why are you so mad?” “Haven’t you seen the way he looks at you” he say’s frustrated “Ao’nung please stop worrying about it so much I’ve already told him to stop” you lightly squeeze his hand to reassure him.
Once you were all outside the reef and in the harsh dark open ocean you could feel the strength of the waves hitting against your ilu’s “this way” Ao’nung pointed leading the party. You usually liked going hunting with your friends but this time was different ever so often you caught Neteyam looking your way thankfully Ao’nung was to busy hunting to notice.
You were all home by noon, Ao’nung and his friends took the fish into the village and it was only you and Neteyam left by the ilu’s. strangely enough you found yourself watching him the way he spoke with his ilu and the muscles he was gaining from all the swimming “no,no,no stop” you thought to yourself hanging your saddle and making your way into the village “y/n” you heard from behind you “wait” Neteyam was running after you “can we talk?” He asked “about what?” He didn’t say anything just gestured you to follow him.
Your curiosity took over and you followed him. He lead you to an empty side of the village you’d never been to before, “I’m sorry about before” he said sitting on a large flat rock “oh umm” you didn’t know how to respond remembering how you yourself were admiring him just moments before. “Don’t worry about it no one saw” he looks at you confused usually you would be annoyed or angry worried someone would notice his behaviour towards you but you simply stood there refusing to look at him.
He stood walking over to you “y/n are you ok” he asked putting his hand on your shoulder. You hated the way you felt in that moment when his hand touched your shoulder you wanted to disappear forever but instead you calmed your self and lifted your head meeting his soft gaze “I’m fine don’t worry” he didn’t look convinced “we should go back if they see were both missing Ao’nung will throw a riot” all he did was nod following you back.
Making your way back to the beach you could hear Ao’nung and his friends, looking back you realised Neteyam had gone another way which was probably for the best. All your feeling and thoughts were a mess and you couldn’t tell anyone not even Ao’nung.
Later that night you sat on the cold sand looking out into the never ending ocean, you were snapped out of thought when someone sat next to you putting a arm around your waist “hey” Ao’nung said softly letting you rest your head on his shoulder you let out a short sigh feeling the comfort of his touch you both sat there in silence for a little while then you lifted your head to meet his gaze “if you could pick anyone else who would you pick?” He looks at you slightly shocked “why do you ask” he replies now drawing circles on your arm “I’m just curious” “well then maybe that girl Tsireya is always with” he smirks “what really!” You ask not expecting that kind of response from him he chuckles softly “no, no matter how many choices I had I’d always choose you” he says kissing your forehead.
You melt at his words but not long after a feeling of guilt grows inside you remembering the events that happened earlier. You sit up pulling away from him a part of you wants to tell him everything and apologise a million times but the other knows it will hurt him more then it could ever hurt you all you can manage to say is “I’m sorry” you whisper “hmm?” He looks at you for anything else but you don’t say anything else “what are you sorry for?” He ask’s.
But before you can come up with something another mated pair walks into the beach you notice Ao’nung watching them walk past the two of you before turning back to you with a soft smile on his face “that’ll be us someday” feeling the warmth and excitement in his words you can’t help but smile kissing him on the cheek then sitting back next to him laying your head on his chest.

"so, your... thing bleeds every month?"
you nod
"are you stupid?
"i'm sorry?"
ao'nung clicks his tongue, looking at you with disbelieve. "that means you're doing something, only Eywa knows what, to yourself. and you’re doing it so badly that it bleeds-"
you hit him on the head, "no! what are you even thinking?"
"no, but seriously" neteyam looks at you with concern, "forgive me for watching you, but this morning i saw you wash your blanket that’s literally soaked with blood"
your face starts to heat up, "that means the cloth i use wasn't enough-"
"3 pieces of cloth to soak your blood. and it wasn't even enough?" tsireya's voice filled with worry, "are you sure you're okay? we could ask my mother to patch you up"
"reya, im fine-"
"no you're not! you came to her for painkillers this morning, to mend your stomach cramps!"
"its probably tape worms"
"no shit", rotxo snickers
"or just a real bad constipation"
"rotxo, ao’nung please” kiri rolls her eyes, tired of their stupidity. “they clearly said that the bleeding comes from their other below"
not long after lo'ak snaps his head towards you, mouth agape. "holy shit. i think i know what's going on", then quickly moves closer to you. his face just a few inches from yours, his terrified look terrifies you
"my mother experienced the same things as you, when we were about to have tuk. stomach hurting, below bleeding- "
"no. fucking. way” rotxo clasps his mouth, “are you about to give birth?"
"what?"
ao’nung’s jaw dropped. “who knocked you up?”
“that’s it i’m taking you to the tsahik”
“STOP”
your friends went quiet.
they could only stare at your flushed face as your breathing went erratic.
you gulp, trying to calm yourself down. you close your eyes, inhaling a good amount of oxygent to fill your lungs and letting your mind go blank. then, you could open your mouth again
"as you all know, female bodies bear children in their uterus, yes?"
they all nod
"good. now the uterus, in human bodies specifically, would prepare for pregnancy every month-"
"so you need to get pregnant every month?"
"shut up rotxo"
"wait a minute" kiri cuts you off, "you’re not pregnant, but you’re currently bleeding. so the bleeding occurs when the pregnancy doesn’t happen?"
"yup. because i'm not pregnant, my womb's lining shreds out"
their terrified screams deafens you

DEFINITELY NOT A LAME IDEA!! BUT IM SO SORRY I THINK ITS TOO SHORT!
ao'nung x gn! reader
Tumblr media
It was an ordinary day. The Sully family welcoming the day by spending the time together in their marui. Laughing and catching up with each member of the family. Their laughter was cut off when the horn sounded again, and they heard it.
“Everyone, the Tulkuns have returned!”
Your ears perked up at the sound of Tsireya’s joyous voice. It had been something you hadn’t heard in a long time. All of your siblings looked at each other, excitement filling your eyes as you all scrambled to stand up and race outside your marui.
Neteyam laughs in victory being the first one to step foot outside. “No fair, bro!” Lo’ak playfully shoves Neteyam as Spider came second with you. Then Kiri and Tuk.
“Let’s go!” Tuktirey shouts, running and calling for her ilu.
Everyone followed her, but Lo’ak went out of his way to go over to Tsireya. While an all too familiar figure walks towards you, his signature smile plastered onto his face.
You already feel your body reacting on its own as you smiled back, cheeks warming. “Hey there.” Ao’nung greeted, taking a glance out in the sea to find everyone finding their own spirit sibling.
“Care to join me?” Ao’nung offers his hand.
Who were you to refuse your mate?
“Gladly.” You reply, taking his hand. Ao’nung called to his ilu and you already made your way behind his back, your arms wrapping around his waist as he looks hack at you.
“Ready?”
Once you have him a nod his ilu was off, diving into the ocean. Ao’nung’s eyes scanned the water for his own spirit brother.
It also registered to you that this’ll be the first time you’d see his spirit brother, and you suddenly got nervous. But you really did not have the time to learn what they were saying, so it made you all the more nervous.
Once Ao’nung finds his spirit brother, his smile grows approaching the Tulkun.
His ilu slows.
Your eyes then travelled to the creature in front of you. It was huge and it had the same tattoos on its belly like on Ao’nung’s arm. Your eyes widened. Then the two of you dismount his ilu.
You watched as Ao’nung approached his tulkun, signing his greetings which you knew.
`I see you, brother’ Ao’nung signs towards his spirit brother, who in turn sounded his reply.
Your smile only grew seeing Ao’nung catch up with his tulkun. But to be honest, you really didn’t know what he was saying, nor what his spirit brother was saying.
On Ao’nung’s point of view, however.
Ao’nung takes a glance at you before signaling for you to come closer.
You shy, but follow him as you swam beside him, facing his tulkun.
‘This is (Y/N)’ He signs to his spirit brother.
You could hear him squawk in a high pitch tone.
‘And they’re my mate’ Ao’nung signs rather proudly.
You were still confused as Ao’nung’s smile grew as his brother responded.
‘That is amazing news, I feel the two of you are made for each other’
Ao’nung nods before replying ‘I don’t know what I’d do without them, I’m really thankful for it’
Then his spirit brother turns to look at you and you swore by the way its head tipped down and its eyes bore into yours that it had accepted you. You smile, signing your greeting.
After they had caught up, Ao’nung invited you to ride with his spirit brother.
‘Hold here’ He signs, patting its fin. You follow, placing your hands on its fin. Ao’nung did the same beside you as he signals his tulkun brother to go.
Then you both were being swam around, doing a couple of loops.
Ao’nung occasionally glances at you, his heart being overwhelemd as you had a huge grin on your face as you signed ‘Thank you’ to his tulkun.
And after that, the two of you found yourselves atop his tulkun, sitting across from each other.
“Ao’nung, I cannot describe how this makes me happy.” You say, referring to him and his tulkun’s connection.
“He knows who you are already.” He replies, taking your hand in his and stroking the back of it.
“He likes you.” Ao’nung said after you didn’t respond. “Really?”
“Yes, really, you know what else he said?” Ao’nung smirks at you, now pulling you close to trap you in a hug.
“What?”
“That we’re made for each other.”

I see you.
ao’nung x gn!metkayina reader
bullying, arguing, no mentions of y/n
you overhear aonung and his friends picking on the sully kid, and give them a taste of their own medicine
1.3k words
idk if i like this
Tumblr media
“Look at this, what is she doing?” you hear, followed by laughter and scoffing. “She’s just staring at the sand!” This made you stop in your tracks and poke your head outside of the Marui.
Immediately, your eyes zero in on Ao’nung and his friends, pointing and making faces at the Omaticaya, Kiri, you believe it was.
Her head lifted out of the water and she pushed her hair out of her face, “Huh? What’d you say?” she asked, smile dawned upon her face.
“I said,” Ao’nung grinned, looking over his shoulders at his friends before continuing, “are you some kind of freak?” he made a gesture with his hands. The kind smile faded from her face and she stood, avoiding eye contact.
“No…” she mumbled, attempting to walk away before Ao’nung scurried after her, “Are you sure? I mean, you’re not even real Na’vi! Look at these hands, look!” he reached for Kiri’s hand before she snatched it away.
To no avail, Ao’nung just sprung his hand out once more and grabbed hers.
She was visibly uncomfortable as the group of boys continued to make jokes and blatantly disrespect her. You decided you had enough and rushed out of the Marui to step in.
You grit your teeth and mustered up all the strength you had to push Ao’nung away from her. He whipped his head around in astonishment, face immediately dropping when his eyes met yours.
“Kehe, pxiset.” you spat venomously in your native tongue, staring at the Na’vi in front of you with disgust. “What’s wrong with you? Huh?” you continued to shout in his face, “Acting like a fool, treating this innocent girl like this! What’s wrong with you all?!”
You slowly turned to look at the two others, both of them looking to the ground with shame. Laughing in disbelief you turned back to Ao’nung, bile rising in your throat. “Now it’s not very funny right?”
Two more Omaticaya could be seen approaching, Neteyam and Lo’ak, the brothers of Kiri.
“What’s going on?” Neteyam asked tranquilly, eyes looking along the line of embarrassed individuals. You grabbed Neteyams shoulder gently and brought him closer, grabbing his hand as well as Ao’nungs. You raised both hands in comparison.
He shot you a look of confusion, albeit complying against your moves.
You send him a fleeting apologetic look in response.
“Look at this! He’s no different than you are! None of us are,” you seethed dropping both hands. “You should be embarrassed. All of you. Nì’eveng.” and with that, you departed from the group, dragging Kiri and her brothers with you and anger threading through every part of you.
Halting your movements once you were far enough, you turned to face them fully and placed your hand on top of hers. She smiled softly and took your other hand into hers.
“Im really thankful for what you did back there,” she whispered, head low with embarrassment. “Oh, it was no big deal. Never let them treat you like that and get away with it, okay?” you squeezed her hands reassuringly.
Moving in for a hug, she invited you to join her and her family. You accepted and followed her and the others to their Marui to get the youngest one, Tuk, you were told her name was.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“He cares about me and I care about him. A lot. I really hate it but I—” Kiri’s face was scrunched up with playful disgust as you told her about your feelings for Ao’nung.
You were too busy pouring your heart out to notice, but when you finally did, you gasped in mock offense and splashed water in her face. She laughed and did the same, causing a water fight to break out.
“You call yourself Metkayina yet an outsider holds her breath underwater longer than you do?” Kiri shouts, throwing more water into your face. “Thats not even fair, you grabbed me unexpectedly! I thought I was going to die!” you fire back, sending a huge wave onto her, almost knocking her down.
While you were playing around with Kiri, you failed the realize the set of eyes that watched and never left your form.
Ao’nung watched from afar, seated on the sand and admiring every aspect of you. Knowing that he angered you sent an unfamiliar feeling to the pit of his stomach, there was nothing he wanted more than your forgiveness.
Although you were flushed and out of breath, you were determined to win whatever this was, but Kiri soon called it a night afterwards, deeming you a winner.
You let out a victorious cry and Kiri rolled her eyes, mumbling something along the lines of ‘I’ll get you next time,’ as she treaded out of the water, but you were too busy basking in the win to notice.
You started to leave the water, ringing your hair out when you noticed a figure moving in the darkness.
As it moved closer, you realized it wasn’t much of an it, rather, a someone.
You glared at him as he moved closer. It was clear that he was headed towards you, given there was no one else around this late at night.
Nonetheless you ignored him and continued to walk away unbothered.
Ao’nung sped up and grabbed your hand, halting your movements completely. You turned, but refused to look at him.
It was crushing him.
His hands moved to either side of your face, pleading for you to meet his eyes, even for just a second.
“Look at me,” he whispered. “Please.”
You wanted to push him away, to scream at him, to tell him off, but you just couldn’t. Before you could stop it, you already found yourself meeting his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” he said, hands dropping to your waist and pulling you in, “I’m sorry. I know it was wrong.” you hands found their way to his arms and you squeezed gently, disappointment etched onto your features.
“You should not treat them like that. This needs to stop.”
“It will. Promise.”
“You will apologize to all of them, yes? Rotxo and the other one, too.”
“Of course we will. As soon as the sun rises.” he searched your eyes deeply, making sure you knew he meant it with utmost sincerity. A soft smile played on your lips and his eyes dropped to them almost instantly, tongue unconsciously darting out to wet his own.
Your smile dropped in realization and your heart steadily began to beat faster. He leaned in closer inch by inch until the both of your lips were a hairs breadth apart.
“Can I?” he whispered, forehead pressed against yours. You nodded and he wasted no time.
He cupped your jaw with one hand and his lips connected with yours, kissing you slow and passionate. His thumb trailed languid circles onto your waist, lips leaving their place on yours for a quick moment to admire you before finding their place again, leaving you breathless each and every time.
The two of you remained like that, in contented silence, until it was agreed that staying out any later would get the both of you in trouble.
Standing in tandem, you pulled him back by the wrist and didn’t let him leave until you said what had been on your mind for countless months.
Locking eyes with Ao’nung, you hesitated before speaking.
He leaned forward, encouraging you.
“I…” you inhaled, “I see you. Ao’nung.”
His eyes widened a fraction, a grin pulling at his lips as he clocked your words.
“I know.” he stated simply and shrugged. You stared blankly, lips parting as emotions run through you. “Oh, I heard everything you told Kiri…” Ao’nung stepped closer, sucking any air you had left right out of your lungs.
“You care about me. A lot, if I remember correct—” you didn’t let him finish his sentence before punching him.
He laughed and pulled you in by the thigh, whispering “I see you” many times into your ear and kissing you until your hearts content.

💙 Neteyam is the type to fall hard. Crushes aren’t a normal thing for him to get, but when he does get one, it’s a hard slap on the face. He’s overwhelmed with all these sudden emotions and he doesn’t know what to do or how to deal with them. His emotions are like a wave, they build up, growing more as they accumulate and on the last second crash into him. Leaving him stunned with no time to process what just happened.
💙 When his eyes first landed on you, he fell in love and he fell in love hard. He isn’t the type to get lost in his head but with you, he’s imagining endless scenarios where you and him are together. It’s embarrassing, really. He tells himself every time to stop daydreaming about you and how beautiful you are, how your skin beautifully shines under the sun after you emerge from the water. The smile that sends him weak to his knees– Oh, there he goes again. Rambling and admiring every single part of you.
💙 He doesn’t really approach you nor does he know how. So he admires you from afar, smiling to himself whenever he watches you interact with the ilus, or talking to the children, playing along with them and entertaining their little fantasies. One of his favorite things to see you do is collecting seashells off the shore, you're always on the look out for a perfect shell to add to what he assumes to your collection. He sometimes notices that you add a few of the shells you found on your clothing. Another thing he loves to see you do is– “Neteyam, are you staring at them again?” Lo’ak followed his older brother's line of vision and laughed loudly when he proved himself right. “You are a creep, you know that?” He slapped the back of Neteyam’s head playfully. “Ay! Lo’ak!” He grumbled, hands pressing against the back of head, soothing the warm blistering skin with his cool hands. “Why don’t you talk to them?” Lo’ak questioned, sitting right next to his brother. “I’m not telling you.” Neteyam scooted away from him, salty from the uncalled slap he got from Lo’ak. “Bro! C’mon.” Lo’ak frowned. “You will never win them over by staring at them like a weirdo!”
💙 Neteyam catches himself doodling hearts on the sand. One minute he could be watching over Tuk, laughing at her when she ruined her little castle by accidentally kicking it. Next, he’s thinking about you and how you’re so kind to everyone that he doesn't realize what he’s drawing until Tuk calls him out for it. “What are you drawing?” She asks, skipping over to him and pointing at the unfamiliar shape on the floor. “It’s a heart?.” He says, confused. When did he ever draw that? Then it hits him. He drew that while he was thinking about you. He sighs out and rubs his forehead with his palm. “What are you doing to me?” He says to no one in particular. “Who’s doing something to you?” Tuk innocently asked, tilting her head to the side. “No one.” Neteyam was quick with his response. “Go rebuild your castle.” He shoos Tuk away.  Tuk knows who Neteyam is talking about because Lo’ak told her, but she doesn’t pry and continues to build her little castles. That’s what she was planning to do until she saw you talking to Lo’ak “Look, the pretty person is talking to Lo’ak!” Neteyam looked over to where Tuk was pointing at and gasped dramatically. “WHAT?!” Then he turns over to Tuk. “Wait, how do you know about them?!” Tuk cheekily smiles. “Lo’ak told me!”
💙 Neteyam gets a little bit jealous when he sees people touch you longer than they should. Don’t think he doesn’t notice the lingering touches from Ao’nung or Rotxo, even Tsireya. He likes to admit that it doesn’t bother him and that it doesn’t ruin his day but anyone can notice his visibly tense shoulders and narrowed eyes from a mile away. The way his ears are tucked and tail very slowly swishing behind him speaks volumes. “What’s wrong with him?” Kiri asked one day, watching how her brother had his arms crossed his chest, moodily sighing every now and then. “Rotxo said hi to y/n.” Lo’ak plainly said. “What if he tried asking them out!” He whined. “Bro, why don’t you just ask them out yourself!” Lo’ak was so close to smacking Neteyam.
💙 The one-sided pining drew all of Neteyam’s family insane. If Lo’ak heard Neteyam complain one more time he was going to stomp all the way to you and blurt out that Neteyam has a big crush on you. Jake and Neytiri (As much as they love the fact that their son is in love) had enough of Neteyam’s constant daydreaming, he never listens to what they’re saying and when they instruct him to do something he doesn’t even know what to do because he wasn’t paying attention. Kiri and Tuk find it amusing, they’ve never seen their brother so helplessly in love before and they can’t help but tease him every time. “Lover boy over here isn’t paying attention.” Kiri pointed a thumb at Neteyam, who was in his head till now. “What? What happened?” He looks around the room, confused. “He’s probably imagining how many babies they’re going to have!” Tuk giggled. “Tuk!” Kiri tried to sound like she was scolding Tuk but it was drowned out by her own laughter. The two sisters laughed together while Neteyam covered his face in embarrassment.
💙 Neteyam’s yearning gaze doesn't go unnoticed by Tsireya. She knows whenever he’s looking at you and she rolls her eyes every time. “How much longer is this boy going to stare at you with those lovesick eyes before he walks up to you?” She says under her breath, shaking her head disapprovingly. “It’s hopeless, Tsireya.” Ao’nung says from beside her. “Are you talking about Neteyam?” You pipe up from behind Tsireya. “Even you notice it.” Tsireya sighs out. “It’s obvious.”
💙 One day, Lo’ak had enough of his brother and devised a plan. With a lot of convincing, he pulled Neteyam over to you. “Meet my idiotic brother, Neteyam.” Lo’ak introduced you to him. “I know who he is, Lo’ak.” An amused smile stretched out on your lips. “I’ve heard a lot about you.” Neteyam almost fainted right then and there. “You have?” He squeeked out, his tail tucked in between his legs. “Yeah, Lo’ak tells me a lot about you.” You tell him, grabbing his hand in the process. “He also told me how you have, in his words, a big fat annoying crush on me.” Neteyam looked over to see Lo’ak, only to find he was long gone. In the distance he could hear Lo’ak yell, “Good look, brother!” Neteyam blinked owlishly, an awkward chuckle leaving his lips. “He has?” You nod your head. “You are also very obvious. Your eyes told me everything.” Neteyam wanted to die right there.

this is eclipse — neteyam sully

The waves crash against the shore, pushing and pulling. The sand digs into your thighs and hands. The light of the sun dwindles as the eclipse blankets Awa’atlu in darkness, the glow of the sea finally threatening to come out at dusk.
You’ve been alone for a while. An hour, maybe. But a familiar shadow looms behind you.
“Are you just going to stand there?” You ask him.
Lo’ak clears his throat, clearly surprised at having been caught. It’s not even that you’d seen his shadow—you felt his presence from his breath alone.
“Um—no. Sorry.” He tentatively steps beside you, lowering himself to sit criss-cross.
“Do you have a reason why you were just standing behind me?”
You can tell he’s a little scared. Of what, you don’t know. These few months you’d welcomed them into your home, assisted your friend Tsireya in helping the Sully family get settled. You have been nothing but kind, albeit reserved. So maybe Lo’ak reads the confusion on your face when he’s suddenly nervous.
“I just wanted to ask you something,” Lo’ak states with a layer of reluctance he’s trying to mask.
You stay silent.
“Are you…being courted by anyone?”
You resist the urge to snap your head in his direction, instead opting to turn your head slowly.
“Does Tsireya know you’re asking me this?“
You’re not a fool—you’ve seen them sneak off together at dawn a few times this month.
“Yeah. I mean…no. But I’m not asking for me,” he stumbles out his response, a little shocked that you’d noticed his ‘thing’ with Tsireya.
“Whom are you asking for?”
“Um…” He hesitates, “My brother.”
Ah. Neteyam. You’re not strangers. You helped him with his ilu, you remember his eagerness vividly. And how secretly proud he was after Lo’ak said he bonded with a tulkun, despite his teasing. You look out into the sea again, formulating a response.
“If your brother wishes to court me, he can ask me himself.”
You stand up, dusting sand off your body, leaving Lo’ak with a grimace and a thought that he might have just blown his brothers chances.
-
Upon arriving at Awa’atlu, Neteyam’s eyes had been drawn to you the second you emerged from your people, standing out as a graceful presence rather than a cautious stranger. He recalls how you watched his family ask for sanctuary with only a careful gaze rather than with any semblance of disgust like the others did.
His infatuation with you only grew tenfold when you were assigned to help the Tsireya and Ao’nung with getting the family to learn the ways of Metkayina. At first, he thought you were the eldest child of Tonowari and Ronal by how they treated you with such respect, but he was proven wrong when the leader said your families are just close.
You helped him focus on his breathing, tapping him lightly when he would get distracted with teasing Lo’ak about Tsireya.
He thinks the infatuation turned into something else—something more—when he really saw you in your element.
It turns out, you come from a long line of fierce hunters. Tsireya said that you’re one of the youngest to have completed Iknimaya a few years ago, and your grandfather taught Tonowari how to hunt. Neteyam’s heart deflated at the thought that you were likely already being courted, if not mated.
A few months into learning, you offered to take Neteyam hunting beyond the reef. Seeing as he was mastering his skills quickly, you’d been granted a pass from the leaders to show the oldest Sully what happens beyond the reef, partly to show him the dangers, a warning not to go out there unless he is with an experienced hunter, as you are.
He watched from his ilu as you navigated the complicated terrain that was the sea, weaving your body through corals and seaweeds.
Though you didn’t stay for long, you brought back a decent amount for the clan.
Needless to say, he couldn’t get enough of you after that.
He begins to observe you even more, since the training load had been lightened, he would allow himself to focus on how you carry yourself around your people.
He knows you’re reserved around the Sully family. A day after their arrival, you barely said two sentences to Neytiri, letting the basket of gathered fruits speak for itself as a welcome gift rather than using your words.
However, the way you act around your own people is different. It’s not surprising to him that you’re popular, often kids huddle around you during the start of celebrations to hear about hunting stories you’d inherited from your family. He notices men and women your age make conversation, and older clan members hold respect for you. Hell, even Ao‘nung backed off with a nod when you warned him about his teasing.
But what really got him was seeing how you opened up to his family.
During the fifth month, your parents, along with many others, had gone on a long hunting trip for the upcoming cold season.
He wonders why you stayed back, as Rotxo offhandedly mentioned that you typically went on these trips. Neteyam doesn’t care, though, because that means he gets to see more of you.
With your parents away, you find more time to get to know the Sully’s past teaching them about Metkayina life.
He finds you playing with Tuk, even introducing her to other kids in the clan, and his chest swells with pride as he watches his little sister feel more at home. Later, he spots you talking to Kiri, and she looks genuinely engrossed in the conversation.
There is nothing more he’d like than to begin courting you. But the problem is that he doesn’t even know if you’re available. What if you’re already mated?
He ends up regretting voicing these thoughts to Lo’ak in a small rant—because the day after the conversation, Lo’ak comes running to him, apologetic, saying that he might have made you mad.
“Why would they be mad?” Neteyam asks.
“Because!” Lo’ak shrugs, and the older brother has that face saying spit it out. So he does. “I told them that you were interested.”
Neteyam’s eyes widen, and for a moment Lo’ak is scared that he’s about to get a light smack in the head, but it seems Neteyam is too concerned with running to your marui, so he’s safe. (For now.)
Neteyam slows down a few feet from your home, catching his breath. The flap is open, and he can hear a fire crackling inside. It’s almost dinner.
He hesitates, stepping closer to the entryway of your marui. You’re chopping vegetables, and you don’t realize he is there. He hovers. You’re too focused to hear him.
But he’s wrong.
“You know,” You begin, and Neteyam is taken aback. “It is customary to announce your presence upon entering someone’s home.”
He clears his throat a bit too loud for it to be real. You both know it’s fake. Yet you don’t look up to him with any hints of dissatisfaction on your face—no, it’s the opposite. There’s a smirk lingering on your pretty lips. (Get it together, Neteyam! You need to apologize, he thinks to himself.)
“Does the sneaking run in the family?” You tease, talking with the knife in your hands and gesturing to him. “It is the second time that’s happened.”
“I—I’m sorry,” he bows his head slightly, ears pinned against his skull in embarrassment. If any of his siblings were here to see, he just knows the jokes would be unbearable.
You manage to reduce him to a bumbling mess. Well, as much a mess as the golden child could be.
“Why are you sorry?” You ask, and at first he thinks you’re doing it to test him, but when he looks into your eyes and finds only curiosity, he answers.
“For sneaking up on you. And for Lo’ak bothering you about my interest.”
“Wait—“ You hold back a laugh, putting down the knife and clambering up to stand close to him. His breath hitches. “I was only teasing you. And Lo’ak was not a bother to me.” You shake your head, confused.
“He…he thinks he might have made you angry.” Neteyam is a little quiet, but his eye contact does not yield. Neither does yours.
“I wasn’t angry. I just wanted you to ask me about courting matter, not your brother.”
“He asked without my permission, please understand.” As the words register in his brain, his jaw slackens. “You—you want me to ask you?”
“Is that not how your people do it?”
“It is, it is. But I thought…you might have already been promised. To someone.” He searches your eyes for something, anything.
“I am flattered you think that, Teyam. But I’m not.”
His tail swishes in excitement at the nickname. No matter how embarrassing you may think it to be, he just can’t help the way his body reacts to you.
(You think it’s cute.)
“So?” You continue at his silence.
“I would like that. To court you, I mean.”
The smirk on your lips morphs into a genuine smile and he mirrors your expression, the two of you gazing into each other’s eyes like nothing else mattered.
A small pop of the fire snaps you out of the trance, and he glances at the empty marui. Right. You’d been alone for a while.
The question is stumbling out of his mouth before he can realize its implications:
“Would you like to eat with my family?”
But surprisingly, you don’t falter, “I was hoping you’d ask.”

you try to ignore it the first time. pretend you didn’t really hear it and simply doze back off.
"psst."
refusing to move from the comfort of your cot, you keep your eyes screwed shut and your body stiff so as to still appear asleep. after all, it is bad enough you have been stirred from your slumber, you aren't positive your family will take too lightly to being stirred from theirs.
"pssst!"
it's louder, this time, but yet you do not so much as twitch your toes. hopefully even if your family hears they will merely think it to be the wind brushing something against your shared marui pod. and, surely, your perpetrator would not keep this up if you did not give in to his pestering.
but you are very foolish to think that. and very, very wrong.
because he does not hiss out an alarm the third time, no. instead, a hand is wrapping around your ankle and tugging you across the woven floor, mat and all. your eyes dart open instantly, your body shooting up and hand flying to stop your late night intruder from his tugging on you. the scraping sound of his dragging halts immediately, and you flash a quick glance around your marui to clock the sleeping states of your family. thankfully, they still all seem settled into deep rest. a miracle, honestly.
"are you crazy?" you hiss, low and airy so as not to be heard.
"i knew you were awake," ao'nung simpers back, lets go of your ankle only to circle his grip around your wrist. "come on."
"it is the middle of the night, ao'nung." you do not hesitate to berate him, but you make no move to free yourself from his grip either. you wonder why you even play through this argumentative repetition anymore. maybe, it's to convince yourself that you do not hold these late night rendezvous at the same level he does.
(an incredibly false sentiment, regardless of how much mindless convincing you attempt to do).
"that's the point," he grins; wide and boyish and hopelessly endearing, as much as you hate to admit it.
but you must admit it—because it would be pointless not to—and you fault that disposition alone for not resisting one bit when ao'nung begins to pull you along by the wrist. all you're given is a split, shuffling second to glance back at your family before you're being whisked away down the netted pathways.
loosening up is easier with each footfall, and soon you don't even need ao'nung's persuasive vice to guide you along with him. you follow willingly, enticingly. your soles hit sand just as muted giggles begin to leave your mouth. ao'nung tugs at your tail, pinches at your waist as the two of you run across shore. breathy chuckles and dropped guards; you watch your volumes but not your hands.
night brings freedom—from analytical gazes, responsibilities, pressure. ao'nung likes the night, you have learned; thrives in it. perhaps another reason you find it so easy to give into him.
he sends a daring look over his shoulder as he begins to wade into the water. a taunt, a question. are you going to join me? you will join me, won't you? you will swim the seas with me until the sun burns out and night reigns forever and we are all that is left and—you will join me?
you will—you do. as soon as ao'nung turns back around to dive into the water you are rushing immediately after him. it's cold, chilling, against your skin as you break through it. but that does not mean it is unwelcome.
below the tide ao'nung greets you. he is still smiling, still keen, but it is softer. bubbles trickle from his lips to the surface like glitter chasing the heavens. he glistens and gleams and he is beautiful, here. you would not dare ever utter such a thing to his face for fear of it being held above your head for the rest of your adjoined lives. but it is truth and you stand by it, tuck it away into the crevices of your heart. within a file tagged: ma ao'nung alone, for only my eyes.
because this here, right now, is only for you, is it not?
ao'nung swims a circle around you, causes the ocean to spin you at its whim and you do not protest. you give way to see him like this; playful in the most innocent, pure sense. no animosity, so spite. you wonder if he even realizes how much of himself he gives away at times like these. if he's even aware he's baring bits and pieces of his soul to you.
you do not wish to complain and you will take all that you're given with outstretched hands and an ever-open heart. ao'nung is like the ocean: ruthless and unruly but strong and blanketing of all those held within him.
you have always been fond of the ocean.
his circling stops and he tips his head back up to the surface. more air, a need to breathe, he conveys. you've been so caught up in it all you hadn't even realized your chest had started to burn. funny, how such vital things can be pushed to the side.
you follow him, breach the sea and inhale until your lungs are satisfied. as you blink the water out of your eyes, you catch ao'nung's gaze. one beat, two beats—by the third you're laughing. at what, for why, you have no clue. but you aren't entirely sure there needs to be a comprehensible reason behind it.
it is warm and it is light, and that is enough.
"how about we play a game," ao'nung proposes. "whoever gets a shell from the ocean floor and makes it back to surface first wins."
"oh, you're so on," you snort, let a playful smirk tilt the edges of your lips. "do not cry too hard when i beat you."
"as if you could beat me," he snarks back, mirroring your grin, as he lines himself up with you. "go in three."
you narrow your eyes at him, splash a smidgen of water at his face just to vaguely throw him off his game. he splashes back, you do not fight it. you seem so drained of fight tonight.
"two."
ao’nung’s feet knock against yours underwater. an accident while keeping himself afloat, you know, but you still nudge him back with your own. his grin widens, you tip your head in a taunting manner.
"one."
now, in any other circumstance, one might expect ao'nung to be the cheating type. and, to be completely forthcoming, they'd be right. ao'nung is not a textbook cheater, you would say, but he knows his way about bending rules without causing the brittle decrees to break in order to turn the table in his favor. he likes to win, and he likes doing so by any means necessary.
but, that does not ring true in the case of you. ao'nung becomes a fair man within your presence. you like to joke that it's because he's scared of you, too afraid of what you might do in retaliation to his swaying. but you know that that is not the reason behind it at all. rather, he holds enough respect for you within his heart, that he would not try to pull your plug early. and you can't help but admire that.
especially now, as he even waits half a second after you take your dive to take his.
you know it will not make much difference and—despite your own competitive hunger to win—you know ao'nung could give you a five second head start and still best you easily. he is one of (if not the) strongest swimmers in your entire clan. you never had a fighting chance of winning, but you put on an act like you're trying to anyways, just to appease him.
you retrieve the first shell your hand grazes as you reach the bottom and instantly push off the sandy floor to race back to the top. and, just like you predicted, ao’nung is already a whole body’s length closer to air than you. his smile has turned triumphant, proud. you hate that you think it suits him.
you meet him above the waves only a few moments after he rises through them himself. he’s already opening his mouth for a tease before you even have the chance to move the sopping hair out of your eyes.
“what did you say, about beating me?” he goads, waving the shell he’s picked in front of your face. “i should have put some odds on the deal. what an easy win.”
of course it was, you want to say, but, “oh, shut it,” is what leaves your mouth.
you roll your eyes as you reach over to shove at his head. and he wastes no time in grabbing your arm, tugging you closer in the chilly water so that his chest brushes yours with every other flutter of your feet to keep you from sinking. his smirk is still there, still cocky and prideful and haughty, but his eyes twinkle with something more genuine in nature.
“why do you bring me out here, ao’nung?”
perhaps it is not something you should be so easily inclined to ask. not now, not when you are having such a good time with him. not while he’s got you so close. and yet, maybe that makes it the perfect time to ask such a thing. maybe, the heart finds it harder to lie when its pair is only separated by two inches of water and slanted ribs.
ao’nung’s snide expression falters; fizzles out like a star who’s died years ago and now it’s light has finally decided to dim. but it is not regretful, not bad.
it is more so contemplating, thinking of how to define its own existence.
“it is just… nice.” he juts out his bottom lip, drops his gaze from yours then back up. it’s so real, raw. he’s beautiful. “when everyone else is around, i get annoyed. they are all so nosy. and they—agh.”
he tries to throw his head to the side in a groan but you stop him. your hand molds to his cheek, brings him back to you. it’s almost comical, the pout on his lips.
“they what?” you ask, because you’d like to know. whatever it is.
and ao’nung takes a moment to chew it over. like he’s really having to think about if he really wants to tell you or not. (you think if he settles on not, you’ll just have to twist his ear until he agrees, but you don’t voice that just yet).
finally, he puffs out a breath. “everyone is just always looking. at you. at us. what we’re doing. and that’s just so…!”
“wait, you,” your eyes widen, the corners of your lips twitch up, “you’re shy!”
“i am not—“
“oh my eywa,” you laugh, wholly and totally uncaring of the volume of such now, “this is why you like to meet at night? when no one is around? that’s so—you’re so cute, ao’nung!”
“oh, i’ll show you cute,” he grumbles.
and suddenly you’re gasping as you’re being thrown back. a split second into the air before you’re splashing into the water. you’re all sorts of twisted around, but with a few passes of erratic thrashing, you make your way back up to the surface. you’re sucking in a breath as you hear ao’nung’s busting of a gut. you’re glad he finds nearly drowning you funny.
“oh now that,” he chuckles, reaches forward to sweep the mess of hair out of your eyes so that you can get the chance to glare at him properly. “that’s cute.”
“how do you somehow always end up spinning these things onto me?” you question, allowing him to pull you close once again, despite the chattering of your teeth.
“you just make it too easy,” he levels, pinching at your waist and laughing once more at how you jerk from it. and yet, you let him place your arms around his neck, don’t object to how he settles his own hands onto your hips submerged in the sea. how uncouth of you, your father might just be ashamed. but as ao’nung’s gaze softens, you can’t find it within yourself to care about his approval right now. “you make everything too easy.”
“why, prince ao’nung, are you flirting with me?” you ask through a faux gasp. and now it’s his turn to roll his eyes at you. but it is done lovingly, with a squeeze to your hips and another inch closer.
“i’m about to do a whole lot more than flirt,” he murmurs, darting his eyes to your lips, closing the gap that suddenly seems eons too far. light reflects off the droplets clinging to his lashes like a linear constellation, and you wonder if they’ll transfer across your cheeks as you let your eyes flutter shut with the first brush of his salty lips against your own.
moonlight tends to paint the prettiest pictures when it is veiling over tides and two young lovers, you think. beauty is forged among the whispers and waves.

if you ask me why
Tumblr media
masterlist
pairing: lo'ak x gn!metkayina!reader
summary: Lo'ak, your long time friend, asks you to set him up with Tsireya.
tags: mutual pining, (kinda) idiots to lovers (2.6k)
“No.”
Lo’ak sighs at your response, “Bro! Why not? You literally have nothing to lose!”
Said boy has been trailing you ever since you denied his request to set him up with your best friend.
You stop walking to give him a pointed stare. The boy shrinking down sheepishly under your gaze, “It has been an hour. Are you not tired of constantly whining like a child?”
You turn around, not waiting for an answer, smiling to yourself when you hear the sound of his footsteps from behind you. “Just tell me why you’re saying no and I’ll stop, I promise.”
Your steps come to a halt at his words causing his body crashing with yours. Ow, shit, bro what the fuck?! Ow, ow, ow.
“Stop whining and maybe I will,” Lo’ak straightens his back, assuming a salute position before he realises you have no knowledge when it comes to human military.
He racks his brain and rummages through memories for something to say that would hold significance to you, “Do you pinky promise?”
Lo’ak’s smile grows wider at the memory that’s been resurfaced by the simple question. He watches as the corners of your mouth twitch into an almost smile.
(You’ve been giving him a lot of those lately, he collects every image his mind is able to capture and stores them in a box, pulling them up when he’s down, convincing himself that he’s only remembering the memory of your almost smiles because the jokes that led to them were funny.)
The serious nod that you respond to his question with has him mirroring the expression on your face, the smile quickly returns though.
Because you wrap your hand around his fourth finger, pulling at it lightly before you seriously say, “Your pinky finger is now mine.”
It takes everything in him to hold in his laugh at your display.
He will never admit it but a small part of him is endeared. Your willingness to indulge in his humanity with no prejudice despite your friends’ opinions always makes him feel grateful.
No one will ever be able to claw this out of him but any time he’s particularly down, he always thinks of that day.
The day he let someone fully hold his hand without pulling away.
He was having a particularly bad day. Payakan was away, he got in trouble with his dad, the icing on the cake? Ao’nung’s friend called him a freak again.
Your consolation came with a mask of curiosity.
He knows your curiosity didn’t pop up randomly.
Because nothing about anything you did was ever random, it’s almost like your very being was fueled by pure intention.
Well-timed dialogues, perfectly executed jokes, compliments disguised as insults.
The next thing he knew he was laughing, the sour cloud over his head dispersing without him even noticing.
So when you asked him about his fourth finger, he responded with a joke.
(In his defence, how was he supposed to know you’d believe him when he said that wrapping a hand around the fourth finger and pretending to pull it off sealed a promise?)
A part of him thinks you know, another, content with ignorant bliss.
“I like you, Lo’ak.”
Your statement effectively shakes him off the rabbit hole of a memory, his eyes widening and jaw going slack in the process.
“Excuse me?” Lo’ak says uselessly.
You should see yourself right now.
Your heart feels like it’s going to leave your body and bury itself at the bottom of the ocean.
Your mind feels like it's going to explode with how fast it's racing, coming up with ways to rationalise your sudden confession.
But all an outsider would see is the tilt of your head. Emotions tucked away from your face, buried behind the person you've spent years being.
“You asked me why I don’t want to ‘set you up’ with Tsireya?” Another tilt of head at an attempt at indifference, “Did you already forget? You trailed me around for an hour?”
You stare at his dumbfounded face and realise he wouldn’t be able to form a response within the next minute. So you smile to yourself and turn to leave.
You pause, turning around slowly and reaching for a hand. The same one you plucked a pinky finger out of.
You make a display of returning it, smiling up at him as you do, “I told you I wouldn’t break it.”
Later, if asked why you turned down his request in favour of telling him you like him, the answer would be simple.
Why would you push him towards another person when you want him for yourself?
“There’s just no way,” Kiri and Neteyam say in unison.
Lo’ak huffs and rolls his eyes, “Guys! I swear I’m not joking.”
When the two don’t budge, he turns to their youngest, “Tuk! You believe me right?”
Tuk scrunches her face, “I don’t know,” she trails off, “aren’t they a bit too good for you?”
Her statement brings a laugh out of Neteyam and Kiri. Lo’ak rolls his eyes but the smile on his face is difficult to miss.
“Okay wait, let me clarify,” Kiri says, walking towards him as she does, “You were begging them to set you up with Tsireya,” Lo’ak nods slowly, “And when they refused and you asked why and they said it was because they ‘like’ you,” Kiri’s quotation marks warrant another eye roll from Lo’ak.
Lo’ak knows it sounds ridiculous. He wouldn’t believe it to be real himself if his heart wasn’t currently suffering from the repercussions of the smile you gave him.
So he aggressively nods his head at Kiri, “Yes! Bro! Exactly!”
Kiri looks between him and Neteyam, her jaw slacked, “Oh. He’s not joking.”
“You skxawng, why would you ask them to set you up with Tsireya?” Neteyam asks, amusement obvious in his voice.
The question has Lo’ak throwing his hands up in the air, “What do you mean why? Is it forbidden?”
Kiri shrugs, “Not really,” she gives him a teasing look, “But why are you asking the person you like to set you up with another girl?”
Lo’ak screeches, “The person I– WHAT?!”
His siblings laugh at him as he stands mortified.
Their parents call them from inside the marui, something about food being ready.
Before Neteyam follows their sisters to go inside, he grabs the back of Lo’ak’s head with a smile on his face, “Perhaps you’re in need of some introspection brother.”
Ao’nung was starting to get annoyed.
When you barged in on him weaving and told him you would wait till he’s done–fully understanding that the activity required utmost patience–he was grateful.
The sound of your footsteps filling the empty area as you pace back and forth has his fingers slipping up and making more mistakes than he’d like.
He sighs in relief when Näyì, the third member of your trio, enters the marui. Putting the straws down and cracking his knuckles before he speaks, “Thank Eywa, please put me out of my misery.”
You stop pacing and stick your tongue out at him–a habit you picked up from Tuk–before you turn to Näyì.
“I accidentally told Lo’ak I like him.”
The words’ effects are immediate. Ao’nung gives you a look of disbelief and Näyì gives you a look of amusement.
“You don’t do accidents,” Ao’nung says. Näyì nods in agreement before she hums, “He must really drive you crazy then.”
Näyì suddenly gasps, “Wait. . Did he. . reject you?”
Ao’nung scoffs at her display, rolling his eyes before saying, “He’s as crazy for them as they are with him. Do you not see the heart eyes he sends their way when he thinks nobody’s looking?”
You give Ao’nung a look, “No?”
A sigh leaves your mouth, “I mean, he didn’t reject me. . .”
“Then why do you look so dejected?” Näyì asks.
Ao’nung’s face twists into a playful grin, “Are you sad because you’re now stuck with him?”
You shove him, ignoring the whine he lets out, you collect your thoughts, voice dropping to a whisper when you finally speak.
“I told him I like him after he asked me to set him up with ‘reya.”
The response you receive is mixed.
“YOU DID WHAT?!”
“Oh that boy better stay away from my sister.”
You flinch at their exaggerated displays, letting them calm down to allow the words to properly sink.
When Ao’nung finally stops laughing like a maniac at the idea of his little sister with Lo’ak, Näyì turns to you.
“Explain.”
You shrug, “What else is there to say? I’ll be fine if he and Tsireya ever get together,” you ignore Ao’nung’s barfing gesture, “but I don’t really want to have a hand at it, you know? Why shove them closer together if I know it’s going to fill me with regret eventually?”
The duo takes your words in, the silence being broken by Näyì when she hums, “how about the part where you told him you like him.”
A sheepish expression is placed on your face, “That part’s the accident.”
Ao’nung gives you a look, “But I don’t think it was an accident, is it?” You blink up at him, “You told him you like him so he could consider your feelings.” Your mouth slightly hangs at his observations, “You want him to know so you don’t feel regret later on, and now you’re worried because he could reject you.”
He pats your back playfully, “I don’t know why you’re worrying so much though.”
You roll your eyes at him, “Did you forget the part where he asked me to set him up with your sister?”
Näyì snorts at your question, “He has never smiled at ‘Reya the same way he smiles when you’re around.”
Ao’nung nods in agreement, “Tell you what. Why don’t you try to see for yourself?” You widen your eyes in question, “Hang around him and Tsireya, you’ve always been perceptive, this shouldn’t be any different.”
You open your mouth to answer but he’s already shushing you, ushering you and Näyì out of the marui so he can continue weaving.
Once you’re walking side by side with Näyì, she tells you, “He does have a point though. It’s fine to be sceptical but you might end up regretting it.”
You know it’s a trap to get you to follow through Ao’nung’s plan. But when the word regret leaves your mouth you know you’ve fallen into it.
The next time Lo’ak sees you, Tsireya is on your side.
You would be lying if you said that the sight of his body going rigid once he takes notice of you isn’t amusing.
“Hello, Lo’ak.” The greeting comes from Tsireya and Lo’ak has to force his eyes away from your figure to greet her back.
When they’re done sharing pleasantries, you speak.
“You told me you needed extra practice for your rites of passage, didn’t you?” You smile at him sweetly, the sight of it making his stomach flutter, his body acting against his will yet again.
“I was telling ‘reya about it and she gladly offered!” Tsireya opens her mouth to correct you, to say you asked me to do this as a favour?
Please just go along with it, you say with your eyes, hoping it reaches her. When your best friend closes her mouth, you turn to look at Lo’ak.
He’s already looking at you. It surprises you that he doesn’t look away–like he usually does when you catch him staring–clouded eyes locked on your features.
You cough. Gesturing for him to join your friend that’s already in the water.
When he still doesn’t budge, you raise your hand to lightly push him towards the water.
But you never get the chance to, because he catches your arms and tells Tsireya he’ll be back.
The girl nods, but once the two of you are out of sight, she moves to leave. A knowing smile on her face, knowing better than to wait when it was you he left with.
“Lo’ak–” You start, letting him pull you towards a secluded area on the shore.
When he finds a spot away from prying ears, he turns to look at you, “What are you doing?”
The playful smile on your face drops when you see the serious expression planted on his face.
How did things stray so far from your plan? It was supposed to be simple. Have him and Tsireya hang out, observe them from afar, and finally, draw a conclusion.
But now both Tsireya  and the playful boy you know are nowhere to be found.
Standing in front of you is someone you’ve only seen three times. The intense look on his face makes him feel unfamiliar.
He drops the hand he was holding and paces in front of you.
“What are you doing?” He asks again, desperation clear in his voice.
You clear your throat in an attempt to steady yourself. You don’t look at him when you speak, afraid he’d find a trace of weakness in your face with how intensely he’s staring.
“I don’t understand why you’re. . frustrated,” his pacing comes to a stop and you find your body looking at him against your orders, “didn’t you ask for this?”
Your eyes lock and you watch as the clouds forming in his eyes clear up.
“Did you lie?” He asks suddenly.
He sees your confused look, “When you told me you liked me, was it a lie?”
You find your body moving to shake your head before you can even speak, “No, I–”
“Then why are you doing this?”
Because I couldn’t stand to wait to know if you would reject me.
I had to see if you wanted her enough to not consider me.
Is what you would say if you didn’t have pride to protect. He wouldn’t be able to claw that information from you even if he begs. Liar. The tiny voice in your head calls you out. You would learn to fly if he asked.
You don’t really want to lie, so you answer with another question instead, “Do you not want this anymore?”
It’s a loaded question and you both know it.
When he doesn’t respond, you get so frustrated that words leave your mouth before you could think them over.
“I have liked you the moment you fell off your ilu during your first week here.” You turn your back on him before you continue, afraid of how he’d react to you baring your soul to him, “I like you when you’re making stupid jokes and references I don’t understand. I like you when you’re breaking rules, something I could never do. I like your bravery and your conviction; your ability to stand up for the things you want.”
You pause.
“I like you even if it scares me.”
You feel a hand on your shoulder, it spins you around, forcing you to stare at Lo’ak in the eye and then. . . laughter. Your face scrunches into displeasure, watching as he throws his head back.
When he calms down, he takes notice of your unimpressed expression and rushes to explain yourself, “No– shit– fuck– no, I’m not making fun of you.”
He sighs, moving his hands so they’re holding yours. When he sees your face soften, he continues, “I think the main reason I was so. . in denial with my feelings was because they were too strong. It scared me. The feeling is as intense as the love I have for my family but it’s different.”
He pulls you in an embrace, kissing the crown of your head before he speaks, “I’m sorry it took me this long to notice.”
You hum, “I’m sorry too,” you move your head from its position on his chest in favour of looking at him, “I knew and I didn’t tell you sooner.”
He repositions the two of you so you’re both facing the sunset, your back against his chest and his hands making their way home around your waist.
The sun sets and Lo’ak finds that he’s fine with it.
Because on your face rests constellations that are begging to be explored.
A/N: not proofread… anyways! i was supposed to work on requests but this idea came to mind and i just .. had to write it! i’ll definitely get around to them soon! as always! reblogs and replies are appreciated! thank you for reading :)

GIVING NICK NAMES WITH AO’NUNG PLS IM BEGGING
🌺 ao'nung x gn!reader 🌺 | — 🌺100 𝓯𝓸𝓵𝓵𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻𝓼 𝓼𝓹𝓮𝓬𝓲𝓪𝓵 !!!🌺 —
prompt #23 - giving them nicknames
Tumblr media
giving ao’nung nicknames is so fun. yeah, he acts so cocky especially when he succeeds on making you feel flustered with his flirting on you. the way your face heats up when he brings you new necklaces or headpieces that matched him so it no other metkayina could every try to flirt with you.
but one thing that gets him flustered so easily is the creative nicknames you come up every single day.
the first few ones were the cheesy endearing names such as:
paskalin (sweet berry)
tiyawn (love)
sayrip (handsome)
muntxatan (husband)
syulang (flower
oare (moon)
the list is endless and it never failed to make him turn dark blue as his white freckles shined brightly.
but what always catches him off-guard is when you start calling him pet names in english (thanks to jake sully for teaching them to you). his face would flare up and you could practically see steam leaving his ears as he flattened them against his head. ao’nung would always ask what they meant but not without a little tantrum on telling you to not say them in english because he doesn’t understand them.
the ones that would always make his heart stop were:
sweetheart
kitten
cutie
honey
darling
although jake had told you that they were basic terms of endearment, ao’nung thought otherwise. they were new, out of his world (literally), and just thought that they were so unique. please continue calling him darling. it makes him weak in the knees and would bend in half just for you.

ᴏɴᴇ ᴡᴇᴇᴋ ᴏꜰ ᴄᴜʀɪᴏꜱɪᴛʏ
Ronal,Tonowari,Ao’nung,and Tsireya x human!gn!reader
Summary: You, Max, and Norm were called by Jake to travel to Awa’atulu to check on Kiri’s health after experiencing a seizure. After Ronal healed Kiri, you were curious about the place and you decided to stay for a bit longer.
Tumblr media
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Get out! You have done nothing!” Neytiri exclaimed. Max, Norm, and Jake quickly left the marui. Once you were about to follow Neytiri stopped you indicating she wants you to stay by her daughters side. She knows how you and Kiri are close together back in the forest. So she decided to keep you in as a surprised for her daughter.
You sat beside the entrance looking worried for Kiri’s health. The Tsahik isn’t satisfied that you are still on her sight, but nevertheless she started her chanting. As she released a blow, Kiri twitches and cries. Neytiri quickly grabbed her hands and pat her head cooing her with the sweetest words.
The Tsahik then left the marui to give them some their own time. You were intrigued by the chant that she did so you followed her. She tried to walk faster than you to lose your track, but you jogged your way to her.
“Hello, Mrs. Tsahik. I’m (y/n), nice to meet you.” She then stopped and turned around with an irritated look. She walked slowly to you and crouched to met her eyes. You were slightly surprised intimidated by her gaze, but also amazed by her features. This is the first time you saw a new type of Na’vi face-to-face.
“I have no interest talking to a demon.” She then continued to walk leaving you behind. You were sad that you couldn’t talk to her. Your mind is full of questions, wanting to know how they live, how they hunt food, what’s the equivalent of ikran to them. Though you kinda expected that they would react that way to a human like you, they never like humans anyways so why would the Tsahik give you a pass.
You walked back to the marui feeling down until you saw Kiri sitting down beside her mother, drinking some water. You were delighted to see your friend in a good condition. You walked up to her as her eyes widen with shock. She smiled at you, offered you to seat beside her and you did.
“So, how’s it going here?” She told all of the things happened. It was a struggle for them, but you’re happy that they are doing well here now. You hugged her tightly missing her warm large frame.
After awhile, Norm stated that you should all be going now. Kiri frowned at the thought of you leaving this early. You yourself then had a thought, you wanted to know more about this situation place, you’re still curious about things.
“No, I think I’ll stay here.” Norm was confused. He told you that you couldn’t stay longer here, specifically how the oxygen tank you have will only last for a week or two. You told him that you will then stay here for a week. Kiri is happy hearing these words from you. Though Norm is still worried.
“I promise, one week. Then you can pick me up after.” Norm just sighed and agrees. They both then left the island.
Tonowari
Tonowari isn’t exactly hostile to you like his wife. He agrees to let you in for a bit, it’s only a week anyways and you’re gone.
Lends you your own marui to put your things like laptop, test tubes, and other stuff.
Also let’s you take some samples of plants, letting him know some new type of plants you’ve seen and is intrigued.
Sometimes ask you for help to grab some fruits.
Teaches you how to fish, you told him that human usually use a fishing rod to do it which made him thinks humans are lazy—
You struggled to caught the fish, but eventually you did which earns a praise from Olo’eyktan
Ronal
Still hostile towards you
Ignores your every question about her being a Tsahik. Hisses at you to go away.
Her husband ordered you to be beside her every afternoon, so now she has an annoying chick following her.
Awkward silence is always present during afternoon. Carefully watching her every time she performed her chants to someone or make medicine.
“You forgot to put that on the leaf.” “…” “sorry.”
Few days of forced meetings, she started to open up to you
She starts to get curious about human health and explain it to her with your limited knowledge
You let her know about the new type of plants you’ve found and telling her the benefits using them for her medicine
She tried using them, which works and thankful for (but won’t admit it to you)
Starts to enjoy your company.
Ao’nung
Annoyed that his father let you in his island
“Great another freak” as he rolls his eye.
Have no choice, but to help you swim because his father demanded him to.
Grumpy every time you go on the surface for air
“It’s only been 15 seconds!” “I know I know! But I can’t hold it long!”
Good thing you have a diving kit just in case you needed to swim, Ao’nung isn’t flattered.
“Pfft! You look silly!” “Shut up! At least I won’t drown.”
Not gonna lie, he’s having fun when you’re around because of your playful personality
One time you made a sand castle and honestly he’s amaze, don’t know what a castle tho
Tsireya
Curious about you and the only nice one (and Tonowari) to you
She’s been told that humans are horrible, but as far as she seen you’ve been good at everyone (specially the sullys since your close to them)
Greeted you with a smile and also giggles to your height. “How a small person could be so threatening?” she thinks.
Every time you both spend time together you make jewelry for each other.
“Oh that looks pretty, Tsireya!” “Oh uhm thank you, hehe.”
Tie each others hair, use some pearls and shells to decorate it too
So far Tsireya is having fun with you
It’s your last day and you packed your whole stuff ready to go. Tsireya, Ao’nung, and the sully children inside your marui feeling down now that you’re leaving. You had a great time with them, but you have to go back to the forest.
Tuk ran to you holding you, “will you be back, (y/n)?” her teary eyes broke your heart, “sadly, I do think I will, Tuk.” These words made all of them frown. You tried to change the mood by saying, “at least we had a good time right?” But that time wasn’t enough for them. They wanted to spend more time with you, forever.
The kids help you settled your things near the shore where the helicopter just landed. Max and Norm is now ready to pick you up. Before you get on the helicopter, you heard your name being yelled by the Tsahik.
“(y/n)!” You turned around seeing the Tsahik and the Olo’eyktan beside here. She walked close to you giving you a bowl of fruit as a gift. The Olo’eyktan then walk beside his wife giving her the necklace that the Tsahik made and put it on you while smiling.
“(y/n), Oel ngati kameie.” Your eyes widen from those words. You just smiled at her and says, “oel ngati kameie, I see you too.”
You then get on the helicopter. It rises after you get on, you look down to them seeing them waving at you and saying goodbye, you also wave back to them. You’ll really miss them.

Hi! Are your requests open? If they are I'm just gonna leave this here, Neteyam, Ao'nung, Lo'ak (sperate) x OmaticayaGnReader who is sick, like flu for the na'vi or something like that, they have a fever and the chills and everything could it also be fluffy and absolutely adorable
Tumblr media
--- personal doctors ☆゚.*・。゚
neteyam, ao'nung, rotxo (seperated) x gn!metkayina!reader
you catch a cold, its time for your lover to take care of you
a/n ; im not good at writing lo’ak, so i bring you rotxo instead! i hope you dont mind<3
Tumblr media
: ̗̀➛ neteyam
realizes your sickness even before you did
when you first sneeze or cough, his mind goes straight to the day before, recalling any peculiar food you've had
neteyam would notices too, when you pause between chores to massage your forehead
he will take over cleaning. making sure every corner is clean so you won't sneeze from the dust. he also makes sure you stay hydrated and even whips you up nutritious meals until your condition got better. usually, the fever never got up to you
but when it does, he goes in full momma mode
this man grows with 3 younger siblings, caring for someone is natural for him. he would stay by your side, whispering your name every few hours to wake you up, so he could feed and help you drink
neteyam might not be the best healer, like her sister, but he can make certain herb drinks
makes you ginger tea regularly to warm up your shivering body
you tend to get all sort of nightmares from your sickness, but dont worry, you’re waking up to neteyam since he’s cuddling you all night long. he will run his slender fingers through your hair, whispering comforting words to your ear
“everything’s okay, dear. i’m here”
we all need neteyam in our lives:(
_
: ̗̀➛ ao'ung
acts like he doesn’t care, but the moment your temperature starts to rise, he brings his mother straight to you
the tsahik would probably do nothing. she tell him to go ask kiri for some herb tea, and to make sure you drink and eat well, since fevers could heal by itself
but mans stressed
would refuse to let you lift a single muscle. he will be the one helping you change, wipe your face to keep you fresh, feeding you
since he’s not the best cook, he would ask tsireya to make you soups, wich she happily does. she makes great food, but your tongue tastes sour and your appetite is no where to be found
so ao'nung scolds you
“quit acting like a baby and please, just eat”
you know ao’nung. none of his scolding are anger, he’s just extremely worried.
watching you go to sleep after being scolded makes him feel like a villain. he would join you in bed and whispers an apology. gently bringing you closer to his chest as the both of you fall asleep
remember he's a worrier? it makes him act too much like a mom. he will insist on taking care of you, even when you're feeling better. will only stop until he's sure you're 100% healthy
ao'nung is a big softie
_
: ̗̀➛ rotxo
most clueless compared to the other 2
pls dont be mad, its not his fault
something tells me he’s an only child, a one that rarely got sick too, so he doesn’t know anything about caring for ill people
rotxo might be confused, but he’s not an idiot
the moment he touches your forehead and realizes you're scorching hot, rotxo instinctively wraps a fluffy blanket around you. the man will make you drink a lot of water, and went off running to the sullys
“what the fuck?”
“sorry lo'ak! its an emergency!”
he got home with omaticayan food wraps in hand. you’re too sick to say anything, so when he lifts your head to feed you, you don’t protest
the one thing that scares you the most is that his jokes completely disappears
all his stupid jokes, gone.
not in a bad way, this man is just so dedicated on you that he stops joking around. he cannot stand that you're feeling all sick and uncomfortable and wants you back to your healthy self
this man is so serious, even when he tried feeding you raw cloves of garlic
one time, he heard kiri saying that garlics are ‘good for boosting the immune system’
he’s not wrong😭😭😭
but kiri hits him on the head once she founds out
instead of feeding you raw garlic, she gives you a mix of aged garlic and honey as medicine such an asian mom move
he feels bad afterwards, would kiss your entire face despite your protest
the next day, you wake up feeling fresh. but your lover boys voice got so hoarse from sore throat and complains about his sore limbs
yes, he got your fever and yes, he never regret kissing you, even when you're sick

jealousy, jealousy (l.a.)
summary ⇾ lo’ak’s not very good at being subtle when he’s jealous... (quite the opposite, neteyam’s word) details ⇾ 1,241 words / lo’ak sully x na’vi!reader / 🌸 fluff / established relationship / gn!reader / timeline kind of follows when the sully’s move to the metkayina clan / reader is originally from the omatikaya clan as well / possibly ao’nung crushing on the reader
Tumblr media
to say that lo’ak wasn’t jealous would be the lie of the century. anyone from a mile away could see how he’s physically affected when someone else is treading into dangerous territories from being a little too close in your personal space to be just friendly. his breathing quickens, fists clench, jaw stiffens–and he also ignores everything around him including his brother who nearly called him twice in a row already.
which is why neteyam thinks it’s hilarious when he just knows his little brother is shooting spears in his mind, aiming straight for ao’nung’s head.
“dude,” neteyam’s voice finally makes it through to the younger boy, a soft huh? as he looks to meet his gaze. “just go there and join them.”
“no way,” was lo’ak’s initial reaction but based on how he intently watches proves otherwise of what he really wants.
the two brothers were a good distance away, watching as ao’nung help you with your breathing technique alongside tsireya and tuk. (considering kiri went exploring on her own and the two boys should be practicing, it felt natural for tuk to stay glued to your side) it’s not that the situation was anything wrong but... it’s how it seemed to progress was what made the fire burn lo’ak’s system inside out.
it seems like tsireya’s attention is dominantly on tuk and ao’nung’s smiling a little too much there with his hand on your shoulder. and you? god, what about you? you’re... you look too pretty to be smiling at that dickhead.
“no no, you’re rushing it,” ao’nung snorts, playfully nudging your shoulder. scoffing, you give him a nudge in return, “you’re a lousy teacher.”
“maybe you need to spend more time with me, then,” ao’nung smirks, to which tsireya responds first before you can–”that is disgusting.”
you offer her a smile, one that she reciprocates sweetly as if she hadn’t just dissed her own brother, “thank you.”
“pleasure,” she giggles, to which you’re shifting closer to tsireya, only to have ao’nung huff as he pokes your arm, “hey, i’m not that bad. maybe you’re the bad student here.”
that immediately gets you to glare at ao’nung, who seems a little too pleased with the reaction he’s able to erupt from you. just as you’re about to go off at the guy, the soft whistle from a couple of steps away captures your ears. it was a signal, one that you looked out for when it’s quiet, when it’s in the middle of a battle–anytime.
your heart skips a beat and you forget that you were about to throw hands at ao’nung merely a second ago, eyes searching for–lo’ak smiles at you the minute your eyes meet.
come join us? your hands start signing to him on their own, suddenly the anger inside of you diminished at the sight of your favourite person. benefiting from learning sign language as a method to speak underwater, also came with the perks of sending messages when you’re too far to speak verbally.
no, he signs, come with me?
you’re certain the pair of siblings with you have a thing for interrupting conversations be it silent or vocal when the boy next to you gets in your peripheral, seemingly participating in a conversation he wasn’t a part of.
go away, stupid, despite ao’nung’s head blocking you, you’re able to see his message clearly over his shoulder. with a tsk, you nudge ao’nung away from you, just in time to see how neteyam’s holding lo’ak back to prevent him from barging over.
“real mature,” tsireya mutters under her breath, shaking her head as her brother gives a face at her. as ao’nung turns back to you, he gapes at the way you’re standing up from the circle. you first offer a smile to tsireya and tuk, “i’ll be right back. tuk, stay with reya, okay?”
tuk offers you a firm nod, “sir yes sir!”
then, your smile drops when you look at ao’nung, signing a quick you’re stupid.
before he can respond, he’s only making incoherent noises as he watches you leave, walking towards lo’ak who smugly holds his hand out for you to take. the same time neteyam lets him go to make his way to the circle you just left from.
“i got tuk from here. just be back before it gets dark,” neteyam chuckles as you two bump shoulders passing each other. then, your hands slips into lo’ak’s hand that feels familiar; the kind that makes you feel like a soft pillow is wrapped around your heart, gently nudging you to fall into comfort and security.
“what’s up?” you ask, focusing your attention on lo’ak as he lures you away but you notice how he’s not looking at you just yet. following his line of sight, you glance back to the group where ao’nung’s making a face of distaste to lo’ak. the latter reciprocates with a huge shit-eating-grin that only pisses off ao’nung further.
even though you don’t know where lo’ak intends to bring you, the both of you begin walking towards the opposite direction, away from the group. when he’s still busy making faces at ao’nung, you pry your hand from lo’ak’s grasp, eliciting a gasp from him as he snaps his eyes back to you.
"so you were just trying to show off?”
“no!” he responds almost too quickly–ao’nung soon forgotten–reaching for your hand to hold once more. you have to bite back the smile threatening to form on your face at how he urgently squeezes your hand, refusing to let you go with a frown forming on his lips, the creases lining his forehead, “i... i just wanted to be with you. didn’t like how that ass-hat kept smiling at you,” he huffs, walking closer beside you, “looked like a ghost, if you asked me.”
you point with your chin ahead of the path you two were walking–it seems like he was leading you back to their reef home.
“where’re you talking me, then?”
he stops walking, making you do the same as he shyly rubs the back of his neck with his free hand.
“honestly, i didn’t think this far. i just wanted to have you alone with me.”
“then... let’s go for a swim?” you suggest, already smiling at the way his eyes brighten at the idea, “bring me to see payakan?”
he makes a sound of disapproval, “first i get you away from ao’nung,” then he squints his eyes, “now you want me to fight for your attention with a tulkun?”
“who says you’d have to fight?” you start walking towards the ocean line, half-dragging lo’ak to follow (as if you needed to, he was already on your trail the second you started walking). “you’ll always have my attention.”
he groans and throws his head back, clearly conflicted with wanting you to himself but wanting to please you and your wishes. when you smile at him and sway his hand back and forth a little, that’s all it takes for him to give in.
“fine... but only for a while! after that, alone time. just you and me.”
((it wasn’t just for a while. payakan nearly stole you for a whole hour before it was time to head back before it got dark. lo’ak swears he’ll never bring you back again but even payakan knew that was a lie.
on the swim back, though, you were able to stop every now and then to pacify your pouty boyfriend with a couple of kisses to have him smiling again as you two peacefully made your way back.))

Trust me.
ao’nung x gn!omaticaya reader
a sprinkle of jealousy, arguing, slightly suggestive content
ao’nung had hated you since the day you arrived, and the feeling was mutual. He and his friends would taunt you and your family, but despite his important role in the village, you fought back each and every time. Soon a realization that the ‘hatred’ you felt for each other was something much more different, something that you were unwilling to accept.

“Let me,” Jake held a hand out as he walked away from the ikran. Many Metkayina circled around and blatantly stared. You could feel the urge to curl in on yourself crawl up your spine quicker than you expected.
Quickly undoing the queue from your banshee, you ran to stand next to Kiri.
Your father slowly took steps toward the crowd, holding his hands out to signal that he meant no harm. Neteyam and Lo’ak followed him.
Cautiously, Jake looked back to you and Kiri and nodded, yet you didn’t move until Kiri did. It was beyond overwhelming to be eyed by a crowd of judgment as you walked, lowering your head in an attempt to shy away from the reality of it.
You heard footsteps ahead and angled your head upward slightly, jaw falling slack as you got a good look at the people before you. Two boys emerged from the crowd, your heart thrumming faster when you locked eyes with one in particular. The mere intensity from his gaze left you unable to breathe.
His aura oozed of condescension.
Neteyam and Lo’ak bowed their heads, fingers to their head as they greeted the mysterious Na’vis.
Waves began rustling beside you and you turned to look, watching as a beautiful girl hopped off of a fish? water dragon? albeit with extreme grace. It made you envious.
Apparently, you weren’t the only one entranced, as you brought your gaze back to the scene around you and saw Lo’ak, blatantly ogling the young woman. It was clear to anyone who had eyes.
“Hey,” he mumbled as she stood next to other Metkayina. She smiled and ducked her head.
Your amusement was cut short when you were reminded of who was behind you.
He took his time in examining you, never seeming interested to return the greeting in the slightest. His eyes seemed to stop on a particular area on the lower part of your body, and a smirk began to pull at his lips.
“What is that? Is that supposed to be a tail?” he asked, moving closer as the other followed behind him closely. They began to laugh loudly, and you noticed the one who caught your eye reaching out to touch it. You quickly turned around and hissed, slapping his hand away.
Your eyes darted to his and you took notice of the way his smirk dropped, now staring at you with a newfound glint in his gaze. His friend snickered behind him.
“Do not! Rotxo, Ao’nung!” you heard from the girl.
You turned around to look at Jake, immediately regretting your actions when you caught a glimpse of the expression he wore. You moved to the other side of Kiri and gripped the cloth that was loosely hung around your arms, looking at the ground.
The loud sound of wind whooshing above you was what got you to look up, eyes widening as you watched a huge creature with a tail and wings soar across the sky, planting itself into the water soon after.
A man half your size hastily hopped off the animal, making his way toward you and your family.
“Olo’eyktan, I see you, Tonowari,” Jake said, greeting the chief, Tonowari his name was. Neytiri and Neteyam mirrored his actions.
“Jake sully,” the chief returned the gesture, settling himself in front of your family. From behind, you could see another woman approaching. She was dressed beautifully, yet she held a distasteful expression on her face.
“I see you, Ronal,” your father was quick to say, your mother following suit.
A best of silence passed before anyone spoke again.
“Why do you come to us, Jake Sully?” Tonowari asked. Your father wasted no time and got straight to the point. “We seek Uturu,” he raised his arms, looking back to us. Gasps were heard amongst the crowd and your cringed a bit.
“Uturu?” Ronal asked, almost disbelievingly. “A sanctuary for my family,” he was quick to add on, Tuk was lifted into his arms and he looked to Tonowari and Ronal with pleading eyes. Ronal looked away, now beginning to move toward Lo’ak.
More moments of silence passed before a single word was uttered.
“Their arms are thin!” she declared, lifting Lo’aks arm to show the people. “Their tails are weak, they will be slow in the water,” she added, swiftly turning and pulling at Kiri’s tail. She muttered a quick ow and moved away from the Tsahik, but Ronal tried again.
“These children…” she paused, grabbing Kiri’s hand and analyzing with potent distaste, “are not even true Na’vi!”
The Metkayina’s gasped, your lips parted and you stared at Ronal with wide eyes. “Dad…” Kiri muttered, turning to look at him. She looked back to her quickly and took her hand back, “yes we are!”
After continuing to criticize your family, Jake decided that he had had enough and shoved his hand into the air, showing that he was born among sky people and proving that adaptation is possible.
Neytiri watched with disliking eyes, stepping out in front of Ronal once close enough.
“My husband was Toruk Macto,” she started, and immediately a cringe found it’s way onto your expression, as did it on everyone else’s, “he led the clans to victory against the sky people.”
At this point you had already zoned out, simply not interested in listening any longer. Gazing upon the beauty of the reef, your eyes accidentally met a pair of familiar blue ones. You held back a snarl, deciding that you no longer felt any interest in him after the stunt he pulled.
He tilted his head and that smirk returned, only this time it was faint. You were thinking of some way to respond, some way to tell him off, until he snapped his head towards the Olo’eyktan.
“—Makto and his family will be staying with us. But they do not know the sea, so they will be like babies taking their first breath. My son Ao’nung, my daughter Tsireya will be showing you to your marui and will train your children.”
“Father why—” he tried to protest, but Tonowari dismissed him before he could even finish his sentence.
At this, you stifled a laugh, watching this so called Ao’nung with humor before smiling sweetly, taking slow steps toward him.
“Please do show me where to go, as I am just a baby taking my first breath.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Come this way, we will be training here,” Tsireya said, smiling kindly before walking away. Lo’ak was the first to follow, but it’s not like you’d expected any less. He’d been pining over the girl for the last two days.
“I just don’t understand how she can be so happy all the time,” you muttered to Kiri as you stood, following after, albeit a bit further away than the others, “I hate it here.”
Kiri sighed and looked at you. “You hate it here? Or you hate Ao’nung?” she queried, deciphering your words for you. Just the sound of his name had you bitterly tugging on your bottom lip.
She wasn’t wrong. Here in the reef, it was absolutely stunning, certainly something you could get used to waking up to every morning. There was only one thing ruining your experience. A person, moreover a thing, but you hardly considered him as one.
You made sure to drag your feet extra slow as you reached the rock, gaze never leaving Ao’nungs as he watched with a hardened jaw. Everyone had already found spots, and it would only be your luck that the only available space left would be next to him.
“You will learn how to hold your breath today,” Tsireya explained, looking at each of you to make sure you understood. Tuk raised an eyebrow, scratching a spot on her head, “Don’t we already know how to do that?”
Tsireya smiled, shaking her head. “For longer, Tuk. If you want to live amongst us, you must know how to hold your breath longer.”
“Yeah,” Rotxo snickered, “you guys were terrible yesterday.”
You crossed your arms, looking at him, “don’t you think that if we knew that we’d be coming here, we’d practice?”
He looked to the sky in faux thought. Looked back to you. “Probably not.”
Fighting back a smile, you caught Ao’nung looking at you distastefully in the corner of your eye, smile immediately dropping as you turned to face him.
“What?” you spat.
He quickly looked to Tsireya, grumbling for her to hurry and get on with the lesson.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“No Lo’ak, you have to breathe from here,” she said for the third time, eventually just leaning over to show him herself. She placed one hand on his stomach, and then his chest. “Your heartbeat is fast…”
You watched amusedly, sharing knowing looks with Neteyam and Rotxo. Kiri was occupied with helping Tuk and they seemed to be doing much better than you. It was a bit humbling, watching your younger siblings nail something so simple contrary to you.
You felt a warm hand on your arm and you stiffened immediately, looking at the hand before looking at Ao’nung.
“Need help?” he taunted, wearing the smirk he knew you hated. He leaned closer, the space between you filling fast.
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“No.”
His eyes widened a fraction at your words, and it took a moment for you to clock what you had said.
“Yes. I meant yes, I— You’re close. Too close.” it was painfully obvious how out of breath you were, how flustered you became from just a simple touch.
Ao’nungs smirk grew and he just barely moved away.
“Trust me, I would rather be doing anything else. Just like you,” he muttered, though it sounded nothing like his usual biting and spiteful tone. Your eyes darted to his, brows furrowing slightly. He avoided your eyes and focused his attention elsewhere.
Although his eyes were looking at anything but you, you could feel his hand slipping from your arm and inching closer to your stomach, until finally his warm palm made contact.
You shivered, praying he didn’t notice. He suddenly went serious and his eyes met yours. You could not possibly know why, but you felt your stomach drop.
“…This okay?”
Your heart began to race.
Tongue darting out nervously, his eyes instantly dropped to your mouth and watched the action. You quickly moved his hand away, standing abruptly.
Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch you, the atmosphere suddenly felt suffocating.
Quickly apologizing, you blurted the only excuse you could think of and walked off. Looking over your shoulder, you found everyone paying no mind to it and resuming their previous activities.
Everyone but Ao’nung, who watched as you walked away with a set jaw.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You had spent the last few weeks acting as if nothing had happened.
Except you were definitely trying to avoid him at all costs, but there were some situations where it was just completely unavoidable. Him and his group of fish friends would pick fights, purposefully irritate you and your siblings. It was always the same with him.
You hate him.
You hate him, you try to tell yourself. You try to convince yourself that you hate the way he looks at you, the way he smiles at you, the way you unconsciously find yourself casting looks into his direction, way more than you truly should.
You mindlessly stare into the dark sky and think over the maelstrom of thoughts and emotions running through you.
The thought that you merely entertain the idea of hating him, yet, do you really?
You’re dragged out of your thoughts before you can even decide, hearing the yelps of male voices. Immediately you stand and walk over to the sounds, and to your (not) surprise you’re met with the sight of Ao’nung and his friends fighting with your brothers. Kiri stood wordlessly behind them, watching it all play out.
“Kiri?! What—”
She bursts out in laughter, doubling over and leaning onto a tree for support.
You watch in bewilderment, not knowing which group to look at. Sighing, you decide to put an end to the fight, grabbing Lo’aks ear and shoving him behind you, glaring at the now frozen party of Na’vi.
Neteyam stood and walk past you without a word, grabbing Lo’ak by the arm and taking him away with him. Your snatched your gaze from your siblings and turn it onto Ao’nung, who was already looking at you.
Storming to him, you harshly grab him and drag him along, set on finding a private area and scolding his damn ears off.
Firmly yet gently urging him behind a large rock, you finally meet his eyes and clench your fists.
“Are you hurt?” you seethed.
“Awh—” he tried to say, but quickly shut up when he caught the look on your face.
“Seriously, do you ever let up?” you whispered, defeated. “Is it impossible for you to go one day without hurting my family in some way?”
Ao’nung could feel his mouth grow dry, and he opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
“Now you can’t answer me? But I thought you always had something to say?” you continued, stepping closer. “Don’t you realize how cruel it is? We left our home for our safety, and yet we are treated like this by you. Only you.”
“Wait, if you would just let me—”
“Honestly? I don’t want to hear anything from you, Ao’nung,” you mumbled in defeat, turning to walk away. Ao’nung grabbed your hand and pulled you back firmly.
“Please,” he said in your native language, eyes searching yours deeply.
You exhaled sharply and shook your head, pulling your hand back.
“For the record, I wouldn’t have given a damn if you’re hurt or not,” you said, parting with that. Another lie to feed off of.
You’d be lying once more if you said it didn’t hurt you.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“You know…” you heard from above you.
Looking up, you saw Kiri, Neteyam, and Lo’ak. Already, you knew it was bad news.
“The answer is no,” you stated simply and continued to feed your ilu.
Kiri kneeled down to your height and stopped you from getting another feeder fish. “Hear us out, at least,” she pleaded, looking back to your siblings knowingly. Sighing, you creased your brows and turned to face them, staring expectantly.
“Since, you know, you are the best sister we could’ve ever asked for…” Lo’ak started, using his puppy eyes to his advantage, he opened his mouth to continue, but you held a hand up. “If you all are going to lie, at least get Kiri or ‘teyam to do it. I might believe them,” you smiled, raising a brow to Lo’ak.
“What? But the eyes always worked!” he groaned.
Eyes, you thought. It sent you into a whirlpool of how he would look at you, how his eyes—
You held a finger up in correction, “Used to.”
“Well,” Neteyam jumped in, swiftly stepping in front of Lo’ak to take over, “we wanted to show our appreciation… of some sort.”
“And how will you do that?” you inquired.
“Get on your ilu. We’re taking you somewhere,” he said, calling for his ilu as soon as he finished his sentence, Kiri and Lo’ak doing the same.
Despite your suspicions, you still followed them into the water.
The bioluminescence contrasted to the darkness of the night sky was truly one of the most beautiful things you’d ever seen. The sun had just set and you were still following your siblings to wherever godforsaken place they were taking you. You heard Lo’ak signal for you to turn right, and what you saw had rendered you completely speechless.
Large, beautiful rocks that rounded and appeared as half circles, floating rocks like the hallelujah mountains back home, luminous green vines that contrasted the purple color of the tree below the water.
Your amazement never faltered as you admired the scenery around you. Kiri caught up next to you and smiled with you, taking a look around for herself. “It really is beautiful isn’t it?”
“What is this place?” you whispered, turning to face her. She ran her hand through the waves and looked to the tree. “This is their tree of spirits. They call it the Cove of Ancestors.”
“Stunning…” you murmured absentmindedly, slowly venturing deeper into the cove. “Can I go under and—” you turned around to ask, but when you looked back, Kiri was nowhere to be seen. They were all nowhere to be seen.
You blinked, breathing in shakily. You knew they were up to no good, but this? What made them think to leave you alone in a vast ocean miles away from shore.
“Kiri!” you shouted, praying to Eywa she hadn’t really left you. “Neteyam?!”
Fuck. Assholes. You tugged on your lip with your teeth harshly.
You heard a noise behind you and snapped in the direction. Ice struck your nerves. You were stranded in an ocean. Alone. With dangerous creatures all around you.
“Guys!” you tried again, not that you were expecting a response.
Except, you got one.
“You okay?”
You whipped your head in the opposite direction and despite the relief that flooded through your body, you were still extremely pissed.
“Ao’nung?” you hissed.
You stared at him, wondering just what the hell he would be doing here so late at night, until it clicked.
“You put them up to this?” you asked, so quiet he almost didn’t catch it. He watched the way your face dropped and cursed, bringing his ilu forward to meet you.
Turning your head away, you wanted to command your ilu to move away, but you just couldn’t find it in you.
“Let me explain, just follow me to this rock. Please,” he pleaded with you. “Please.”
Silently, you nodded and followed him up the rock. Still you refused to meet his eyes. A hand came up and cupped your jaw, making it harder with every second that passed to deny him of what he wanted.
“I didn’t bring you here to make you upset,” he whispered.
You scoffed and shoved his hand away, finally meeting his gaze. “And why would I believe you? What took you so long to come out! It’s like you get a rise out of—”
“You were scared?” he cut you off. “Yes! …Yes I was scared, Ao’nung. I thought I got left alone.”
“I wouldn’t ever do that to you.”
Wordlessly staring at him, your lips parted unconsciously. Crossing your arms, you looked away. “Well, I wouldn’t put it past you.”
Ao’nung sighed and dropped his head, looking at everything but you.
He merely liked the idea of hating you, because the truth was that he loved you.
“You don’t know?” he asked, you furrowed your brows and looked back at him. “Know.. what?”
“We were fighting because I wanted to tell you this.”
Although you were supposed to hate him, curiosity couldn’t stop you from wanting to know more. You stepped closer into his warmth, hands finding solace on his forearms.
“I see you.”
Shaky breaths intermingled with one another. You felt weak as you took his words into account. Slowly, you slid your hands higher until they met the nape of his neck, really basking in the feeling of his touch.
“I’ve been lying to myself since I first saw you,” you muttered, pulling him closer, “I cannot lie any longer.” Opening your eyes, you hazily examined his features. The features you tried to fool yourself into believing you weren’t in love with. “I see you, Ao’nung.”
Reaching down, he captured your lips in his and poured every ounce of passion and every ounce of his feelings into the kiss. His mouth was doing way too well at swallowing every little noise you made, reciprocating it with low groans and fleeting touches.
You were all too focused on the feeling of how perfectly his lips molded against yours, you grew lightheaded fast and pulled away for air. Still, he continued to pepper kisses over your cheeks, neck and collarbone, desperate for any kind of contact with you.
Your face was flushed and you were out of breath, this didn’t go unnoticed by Ao’nung and he smiled against your skin at the sight of his works.
“Getting a kick out of this Ao’nung?” you sighed, jokingly flicking at his arm.
“Trust me, its a sight I could get used to seeing.”
