these are from my rewrite! they're from around the middle of s2-ish, after everyone comes back from gal'ruk.

headcanons and closeups under the cut :D

aaron:

has a bad knee, hence the bandages; he injured it as a kid in a hunting accident and it never quite healed right.

eyes are fucked bc of magicks (anything he lays his eyes on gets disintegrated; this is why he wears the bandanna early on, but he learns to control it as time goes on).

loves dogs.

aphmau:

chaotic good; can and will ignore the rules if it means doing something nice for someone else.

learned how to pick locks from zenix. is still shit at it.

favourite flower is lavender.

garroth:

broke his nose in guard academy after he got in a fight (someone insulted his mum). it never healed right.

loves gardening and flower arranging. the phoenix drop guard station has never been prettier.

terrible, TERRIBLE liar. this is why he never changed his name after he ran away to phoenix drop.

laurance:

terrible handwriting. it gets worse when he comes back from the nether due to his poor eyesight and hand tremours.

has an egregious bogan australian/nz accent. it gets worse when he's upset.

great swimmer due to his upbringing in meteli.

travis:

loves pranking people. is also very good at getting away with said pranks.

also loves to tinker with spells and runes. this has unfortunately led to several "lab accidents".

pescatarian. mostly grew up on seafood.

katelyn:

the scar on her face is from her first mission as a juror. all of her facial expressions are lopsided as a result of it.

severely allergic to cats.

has a collection of tea in her home. her favourite is chamomile.

here is aphmau in my au/rewrite

i tried to draw her in as many of her iconic outfits as possible but good irene she has a lot [click for better quality]

so here are some changes and headcanons i have for aph in my au:

•she’s neurodivergent. not entirely sure what specifically, probably adhd. for sure dyslexic.

•she has sensory issues, which is why she’s usually in shorts. she feels like she can’t move properly in a dress for pants.

•so in my au she is irene just like regular canon. i gave her her markings but you might notice they’re different; here’s why: so in my au, scars and tattoos can both be used as runes to conduct magicks. scar runes amplify one’s existing magicks while tattoo runes bestow a certain magicks ability to a person (even if they already have one to begin with). though this practice is outdated and illegal in most parts of the world. because irene’s abilities existed prior to her become a divine warrior, she scarred herself to not only enhance said abilities but to also show her true dedication. nowadays no one, except maybe zoey, actually knows what they are or what they’re for exactly.

•when irene locked herself away, she tried to dress in a way she thought might help her blend in in whatever time she popped back out.

•she was wrong.

•phoenix drop gets really hot, especially in the summer, and it doesn’t snow there. aphmau uses it as an excuse to wear shorts all the time.

•when she first showed up she wasn’t as clueless as they made her seem in rebirth. she was just as aware as she was in the og beginning (except no she didn’t think she was playing minecraft) her reason for helping out the village was basically this: “oh look a village, cool i needed a place to stay. oh man these guys are in rough shape, they don’t have a lord?!? ah geez no one’s helping them, guess i gotta help them. oh shit they made me lord!” ok maybe not EXACTLY like that but yk

•she’s not a pick me in this universe :) and she doesn’t lead people on.

•when garroth first noticed how hard she was working on the village without even being asked, he bought her some gloves so she’d stop tearing up her hands. he bought some basic fingerless leather gloves but payed extra to have them dyed black and embroidered with lil purpley pink flowers. he hopes she’d like them and that his gesture wouldn’t come off as clunky or weird. she loved them and keeps them with her even when they’ve gotten too worn to wear.

•laurmau is endgame. aph and aaron never have any kind of romantic relationship. he’s more of a mentor to her. (i’m sorry garmau lovers i love y’all but laurance is my guy)

unsure about my version of the divine warriors. i don’t have a set creation or destruction like aphmau has. instead i have, the leader, the protector, the empathetic, the scholar, the wanderer, and the balancer. but i’m not sure about these categories. they’re really vague and i don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

the categories started as covens in a school.

the leader coven corresponds to crow talon, the coven for the strategic. the ones who have to take the burden of taking care of their team. the ones who rise up when no one else can to lead their team. they are master strategists and know how to play the chess board.

the protector coven corresponds to bear claw, the coven of the courageous. the ones who wield courage like a blade. these are the aggressive protectors — the offenders.

the empathetic coven corresponds to armadillo bark, the coven of the lovers. these people feel emotions and love for others strongly. they are very caring people. they often go on to become doctors or humanitarian-centered jobs.

the scholar coven corresponds to owl feather, the coven of the intelligent. these people are insanely smart and they’re the academics of the world. they study the world and find out things that are vital to know. knowledge is most important to them.

the wandering coven corresponds to panther paw, which is the newest of the covens and also the least developed. it is the coven of the adaptable; the people who go where they’re needed. these explorers. the people who don’t have a set home.

the lover coven is complicated. it corresponds to bat wing which is a coven of a lot of things. it’s kind of the other covens all combined. but most importantly, it is the coven of balance and observation. these people understand that everythimg is needed in the world, from the good to the bad. they can be leaders like crow talon, if need be. they don’t seek out ambition or leadership like crow talon does, but they can step up to plate if needed. they are protective like bear claw, but instead of being offenders, they are defenders. they defend the things that can’t, like the elderly, the sick, the young, nature. they don’t seek out aggression. they are primarily peaceful, but when threatened they will take action. they are empathetic like armadillo bark; they care deeply for people and the world. they are intelligent like owl feather. and they are adaptable like panther paw. they are all of them combined. they are extremely versatile. they can be anything they’re needed to be.

i don’t know what to describe the sixth category as, nor what to have represent them.

currently the representations are:

leader -> crown

protector -> sword

empathetic -> heart

scholar -> rune

wanderer -> satchel

balancer -> shield

but i don’t think that fits. let me know if you have any thoughts.

what's your favorite mcd and myst ship (mind the randomness of the question you don't have to answer)

I gotta be honest that's a hard one for me to answer cause I'm one of those aroace-spec freaks who is obsessed with love and I ship too many fucking things.

When it comes to myst the hill that I would die on for the longest time is Zanemau and I still proudly stand on said hill, you cannot tell me that if Aaron wasn't as poorly written as he was/Jason's self insert that Zane and Aphmau wouldn't have been end game.

I do though have so many rare pairs I wish I could talk about, but I don't wanna be the little weirdo who's got to strangest rarepair ship ever (Ivy×Blaze)

For mcd it's kinda complicated. The ship I had for the longest time back when I was in middle school was Kaitmau, to an extent I still kinda do, but I also loved Kaitlyn×Jeffory, so like, idk if they be poly or smthin or if she would just go be with Aphmau after Jeffory bites it. But of course myst ended up runing that for me cause of Sylvana and Eric getting together (I still adore their relationship they are so meant for each other, myst kaitmau just can't happen sadly) but I'd have to say none Aphmau related ship would have to be Kenmur/Emmalyn or Donna/Logan, which I know is wild (/j).

Emmalyn's just always been one of if not my favorite character in all of the Aphverse (other than Modzilla, those two fight to the death for first place). And Kenmur's devotion and softness towards her, especially at the start of season 2 when they come back from the Irene dimension made me scream when I was rewatching it. He loves her so much and they are such silly little nerds.

so cinn I’ve actually thought abt that last question a bit. idk if any of you noticed but I didn’t include Vincent in my Blue Flame member list and that was purposeful. I think Vincent wouldn’t want to join. I think that Vylad, being a message boy of sorts, would not only keep Aphmau up to date on what’s going on in the Nether, but would also keep Cadenza and her guards in the know. That includes Vincent.

I think one day Vylad would ask Vincent if he wants a spot in the Api Biru and Vincent declines. It’s not that he doesn’t agree with what their doing, he does. But he doesn’t want to go back to the Nether. He can’t. Besides it’s been over 100 years, so much has changed. He feels he’d been more so in the way than helpful. However, should they need him he is willing to put all that aside to help or fight.

And eventually that day comes. The day of the final battle. He fights along side Laurance and Vylad and Cadenza who insisted on being apart of the battle despite his warnings.

After the battle he travels back to town with Cloud and Cadenza.. Zack.. He fell. Cadenza’s been minorly injured and he and Cloud help her walk. She’s in absolute shock. She injured her leg and couldn’t get away, Zack jumped in front of her, striking down the shadow knight in front of her, but the sk struck him as well. They both fell, only one of them was immortal.

Vincent leaves her in the infirmary with Cloud before he heads off into the woods to think for a while. When he stands to head back, he suddenly feels a wave of dizziness and blacks out. When he comes to its morning. The first thing he notices is that his body feels weak. He looks at his hands to see his rune tattoos are faded. He is no longer and Shadow Knight.

He finds his way back to town and is found by someone, probably Aphmau. The first thing she says is something like “Vincent! How are you awake!” he’s confused but before he can say anything she points out that his eyes are no longer red, but brown. When he asks what she meant before she takes him to the infirmary, where Laurance, Vylad, and Eseryt all lay unconscious and pale. Lucinda explains that this happened bc they’re shadow knights and Vincent is like “they’re all premature. They never gained their immortality. they’re life forces are likely slipping away.” which of course causes even more panic than before

now the question is: how would vincent deal with the doll symptoms every now and then while sailing the seven seas?

Vincent trying to show off his sick pirate skills in order to woo some twink in another crew but partway through his demonstration his arm goes limp and refuses to move. He's in the middle of some showy maneuver of jumping from one ship to another but a sudden stabbing pain in his back makes him completely fumble the landing and land in the water. He's in the middle of barking orders and then his mouth gets sewn shut and he can't even explain to Zack or Cloud why this is happening it just is.

It's fine when the symptoms kick in while he's alone, Vincent can handle it on his own. He's totally okay with his body going limp while he's alone, because in the worst case scenario he wakes up shipwrecked on some island and starts from zero. He can do that. But when he's around others he doesn't quite know how to tell them that this is happening. He doesn't even fully understand why this is happening, and he doesn't want to scare away others by telling them the truth.

If he was drunk or high enough he might confess to being a Shadow Knight, but even then, there's no guarantee that who he's talking to even knows what that is or what it entails. He told Zack and Cloud when they first asked to join his crew, hoping to deter them, but it uhh... Didn't work.

Zack once made fun of Vincent for a time that he absolutely ate shit on the deck because his leg was suddenly filled with stinging pain and then went numb. Vincent literally just said "It's a Shadow Knight thing," planning to elaborate, but Zack instantly apologizes and feels awful about it. It's at this point that Vincent finally opens up about all the symptoms, the ones he understands and the ones he doesn't.

Cloud quietly pipes up "Sounds like a doll with its mouth sewn shut," when hearing Vincent explain where his scars come from. That's what finally makes Vincent realize what his symptoms really are. Why they happen. And what specific doll he is. He finally realizes that The Shadow Lord probably doesn't just treat him like a doll, but any Shadow Knight could fall victim to this. Suddenly his tune on being open about this aspect of his life changes a little.

Holy fuck. I wasn't sure if I should tag the council before but I definitely am now. Vincent is the first Shadow Knight to put it together but he isn't the last. He asks Laurance what kind of doll he is in a very casual way and Laurance is just like "Wait what??" Vincent just stares at him for a second. "You haven't figured that out yet?"

Laurance who literally never thought these random ass symptoms had any greater connection beyond Shadow Knight Things TM:

anyway. bit of backstory below the cut. mega big spoilers ahead, as well as a cw/tw for graphic violence, animal death, and self harm.

aaron n melissa lycan r the children of the former lord of falconclaw, derek lycan. however, due to the majority of the village being able to trace their lineage back to shad the destroyer, the high priest of the cathedra of irene at the time (zane's predecessor) decided to wipe out the village to prevent shad from reincarnating. however, aaron was out on a solo hunting trip and melissa was in nahakra visiting a suitor, meaning that they were not in falconclaw when o'khasis marched on it.

aaron was the first of the siblings to return. when he came home to find that pretty much everyone he'd ever known and loved - his parents, his fiancee, his sister, his friends - had been brutally murdered at the hands of the city-state that was supposed to protect them, he... sort of lost it a little bit. a long-dead generational curse magick manifested in his eyes that caused anything within his line of site to get disintegrated; because he couldn't control it, he destroyed much of the village and the remains of his people. when he came to, he attempted to gouge out his eyes to prevent the same thing from happening, but when they regenerated, he resorted to repeatedly sewing them shut until he met an elf who gifted him a bandanna with runes that nullified the magick.

melissa returned to falconclaw after aaron had fled and found the village in ruins. assuming the worst - that she was the last survivor - she wallowed in her grief for months until she came across an old tome that promised of any wish granted so long as she approached a man with goat eyes. unbeknownst to her, this was the demon warlock, and when she asked him to bring her village back, he told her to sacrifice a living being as payment. melissa, who grew up in a hunting village, immediately set out to sacrifice the first animal she came across. unfortunately, this happened to be a wolf - and when menphia, patron goddess of wolves, discovered this, she cursed melissa with what came to be known as the 'ultima' curse. although werewolves had been around since... well, as long as anyone could remember - hells, melissa and aaron had grown up playing with the cubs of a nearby werewolf settlement - they were a separate species to humans, and humans could not be turned into werewolves (and vice versa). melissa's curse meant that she could turn humans into werewolves by merely looking at them - something that terrified her, and led to her fleeing ru'aun and travelling to tu'la.

the siblings don't reunite until aaron, along with aphmau and the main cast, travel to tu'la to retrieve menphia's relic. by this time, melissa has reunited with the werewolves that she and aaron grew up with - blaze, dottie, rylan, and daniel - and they have joined the anti-monarchy resistance with the goal of toppling the corrupt tu'lan nobility. both of the siblings have largely gotten their curses under control - aaron has stopped wearing his magicked bandanna, and melissa is able to go out in public and interact with humans without worrying about accidentally turning anyone. when they reunite in the catacombs below the capital city - well, let's just say that its abt as emotional as u would expect it to be when uve thought that ur sibling has been dead for the past ten-twenty years.

I wanna talk about titles and names for things in my MCD au/rewrite

This may be long, you’ve been warned

First and foremost Lord Lady and Sir:

In my universe, it was generally uncommon (though not unheard of) for a woman to be the head of a village until Aphmau. If a woman was the head of a village she would be called Lady (her name) and never Lord (her name). Aphmau was the first woman to call herself Lord, and since then it became customary.

Though there are other reasons someone may be called “Lady”. If they are the wife of a Lord, a high or head knight/guard, or if they are someone of great importance. For example, Lady Katelyn the Firefist and Lady Azura of Bright Port. While Katelyn is a member of the Jury, Lady Katelyn the Firefist is her official title, but when she is stripped of her rank, that title is taken as well and she became just Katelyn. Azura being head guard of Bright Port gives her the title of Lady Azura.

And finally, Sir. Similarly to Lady, Sir is the title given to male head guards. While Garroth is head guard of Phoenix Drop, he is known as Sir Garroth of Phoenix Drop. While Laurance is head guard he is Sir Laurance Zvahl of Meteli. Though when he left for Phoenix Drop he lost that title. He still sometimes introduces himself as Sir Laurance by accident.

Next, Werewolves:

There are a few different kinds of werewolves: pure blood, half blood, and turned. Werewolf is the umbrella term used for any Lycan kind.

A pure blooded werewolf is also known as a Wolfer. These wolves do not have a human form, though they do have a human-like form (think how we usually see Bodolf or Lowell). They also have a pure wolf form or natural form, where they appear like a normal wolf, though slightly larger.

A half blooded werewolf is also known as a halfling wolf or halfling wolfer. These are werewolfs that are born of both werewolf blood and the blood of something else, be it a human, meif’wa, elf etc. These wolves have a pure wolf form, a pure human form, and the ability to show their wolf ears and tail while in their human form. Examples of halfling wolfers would be Yip and Leona.

And finally a turned werewolf is exactly how it sounds. A werewolf who was not born but rather turned. Their traits depend on what the wolf that turned them’s traits were. In Logan’s case, he was turned by a Wolfer, therefore has the traits of a wolfer along with a human form.

I also want to mention a bit about werewolf hierarchy.

Most werewolf villages are small and refer to themselves as tribes or packs, depending on if they are made up mostly of halfling wolfers or full wolfers respectively. Their leader is referred to as The Alpha or just Alpha. Never by their name unless it is someone they are very close to.

Finally Magicks Users, Witches, Warlocks, etc.

The term used for any type of magickal person is Magi. They are also sometimes referred to as Mystics, though this term is fairly outdated.

A magicks user is any person born with the ability to use magicks. Pretty simple. This does not include witches.

Witches are born witches, much like an elf is born an elf. It is a species not ability. Witches are born with a higher connection to the earth and have the ability to learn witchcraft rather easily, though they don’t all choose to. Witches are often female, but it is possible for a male to be a witch.

A mage is a person who is not born with any magicks or witchcraft. They give themselves Rune Tattoos and often Scar Runes, and teach themselves magicks. This often takes a very long time, so in some cultures (like Zerimar) they do this at birth so the child will grow up with the ability. Mages are outlawed in many places throughout Ru’aun.

A Shaman is a mage who teaches themselves magicks for religious purposes, usually under the faith of Irene or another Divine Warrior. In Castor, the Chicken Shaman’s case, it was under the faith of the chicken gods… or something… no one really knows..

A Demon is a bit blurry. Not much is known about them other than that they come from another realm and are often evil.

A Shadow Knight is anyone brought back to life (or in Laurance’s case transformed against his will) by the Shadow Lord in the Nether. A Shadow Knight that has not claimed their immortality is often referred to as a “premature” Shadow Knight.

A Divine Being is anyone with borderline unnatural magickal abilities, or anyone able to master both a magicks and witchcraft. They are believed to be either divine beings or divinely chosen.

And FINALLY, a Warlock is anyone who falls under any of these categories (aside from the last three) and uses their abilities solely for evil, their own selfish gain, and/or to deceive others.

Sorry I'm a Katelyn fan I've got a lot of thoughts about her

Okay so in my rewrite she makes her own armor and weapons and all that because it's what her dad taught her how to do, and she follows through with that because she uses it to put the runes her mother taught her on everything her fire touches. She literally can't explain why she does it, she thinks it's a fire proof enchantment.

It's literally the runes to create a staff and Lucinda makes a comment asking why Katelyn has it on her gauntlets, and Katelyn's just like oh its so I don't accidentally light myself on fire.

Katelyn is a witch who was only taught fire spells and uses her fire magic like an element-based mage and has no idea she's a witch. Witches magic has a recoil/drawback sort of thing that's why they use staffs, Katelyn just knows these runes make her arms not light on fire so she uses them on literally everything

But that's like a whole plot point in my rewrite so that's fun, it's also where Katelyn and hyria start to bond a bit, it's pretty cool

What I'm trying to say is Katelyn basically turns her body into a witches staff without even knowing she's a witch, and hyria just fucking let's her
