ok so guys. i love the matrix. i love it so much that i am going to make some headcanons for it (slight spoilers for 3 films below because i haven't watched resurrections):

mouse got his...codename? nickname? chat i nearly said callsign fuck me don't trust me because he literally. would. not. stop. talking. about. cheese. ever.

switch: "dude it's literally not real"

mouse, sobbing in the corner: "it was real to me"

ok well he wouldn't actually do that i think but they definitely ribbed him about it and he maintained that cheese is amazing despite the fact that he would never get to taste it in the real world.

i haven't watched the movie in a hot minute so i can't remember if it was mentioned in canon or not but i hc that morpheus was really reluctant to let tank and dozer join his crew because he'd known them for a pretty long time (not all their lives because he was freed from the matrix but they were homegrown) and didn't want them to get hurt. he'd seen the sentinels and the horrors within the matrix and especially outside and didn't want to endanger them like that, either mentally or physically. (especially the mental part tho because they were naive in a way? in that they were very eager to join the forces and help fight and were slightly ignorant of all the dangers that lurked. morpheus wanted them to stay in zion because if they stayed there they'd keep thinking [at least on some level] that the world was their oyster and that they'd be safe. their worldview would be completely turned upside down and tarnished if they joined up. tank and dozer wanted to do everything they could to help)

and when they got to the nebachu--ok listen it's like 4am and i can't spell that so we'll just call it the nebb. so when they got to the nebb they realized that morpheus was right about everything he'd warned them of. but they stuck around. they stuck around because they were true soldiers.

very few things survived the wars. but some people locked their shit into these like super cool techy impenetrable boxes or something that were later recovered by various ships and taken with the humans to zion. they contained things like photo albums, diaries, articles of clothing, and a lot of other things that really helped them piece together what humanity was like before the wars. there was also a ton of oral storytelling that got transcribed and placed into records of zion so that the humans didn't lose their humanity. they tried to keep whatever shreds they could but they couldn't keep all of it, so they combined it with the new stuff to make a new culture

switch and apoc are definitely close with each other somehow. platonic? sure. fucking? sure. romance? sure. whatever u want. but they are definitely two peas in a pod. (i need to rewatch dang)

what if trinity was like a music student or a journalism person before she was unplugged? i feel like whatever her main interest was during her plugged-in time was something that she missed very dearly upon getting freed. yes she was free and she knew the truth and could make her own decisions but the thing was that even though all that had happened she couldn't help but miss what she had while in the matrix. morpheus told her it was okay to mourn what she had lost and to take whatever time she needed, but to be careful to not let that feeling turn bitter. (because bitterness drives you to abandon the cause, as we saw with cypher)

neo likes strawberry ice cream and when he was little he cuddled with this squishmallow-esque stuffy. it was really squishy and plushy and sometimes he misses it.

cypher took way too much time, missed his old life too much, and abandoned the cause.

agent smith had thoughts that differed from the other agents' and what the matrix aimed to achieve ever since he was created. the ai put them apart to do his job but then looking at humans and everything more closely he reconsidered

mouse often daydreamed about fast food. one time on a mission he actually managed to order some mcdonald's fries at the drive thru and dumped the whole container into his mouth while running from agents. like picture this doofus running down the street, guns blazing, with his mouth stuff full of fries. morpheus was extremely scared when he did that for obvious reasons and explicitly banned food on all future trips.

the place that neo eats his noodles at often serves them with runny yolk (think poached or soft boiled eggs) on top and that's why he loved them so much6

-kermit and miss piggy as neo and trinity in the real world and still keanu reeves and carrie ann moss in the matrix

-gonzo as switch in the real world and camilla in the matrix. camilla would be the only muppet in the matrix (and a chicken!) and this would never be acknowledged. i know that switch being different genders in each world got cut from the film but its true in my transgender heart

-floyd pepper as the oracle, and the remaining members of the mayhem as the kids (janice as there is no spoon kid bc shes my favorite)

anyway procurement pals was originally gonna be a post-apoc tf fic inspired by the vibes of the transformers reactivate trailer where bumblebee and what was left of the EDC put together a heist crew of autobots who were off-planet during the quintesson invasion to steal back the matrix of leadership. but i wanted to skew it a bit closer to idw1 and then it becomes a bit of a problem because. like. okay hold on i've got a bit going of all my idw-adjacent fics being in the same continuity and singles club has a whole-ass apocalypse hanging over it now

cliff was originally heavily implied to be kimber/stormer's kid, danni was still danni, and marissa and thundercracker were basically running the resistance to the quintesson occupation of earth

fun parts of it: - hastily-repaired-by-humans bumblebee constantly having to make field repairs or being annoyed that they didn't know about [x] weapon he needed in a given situation so it wasn't repaired - rodimus and megatron divorce era - unabashedly heroic starscream because like oh come on there's nothing even LEFT for me to rule over here - the characters would've been convinced that the underground base they were hiding in is the ark right up until the point the matrix activates and it starts to turn into metroplex around them

Is Our Reality a Simulation? Cosmic Video Game Theory Revealed

The idea that the world could be something else has gained ground among futurists, philosophers and physicists recently. Is this a real idea or is it just an imaginative thought? Reddit forums like r/Are We Living in a Simulacrum or r/Glitch in The Matrix are among the most viewed sites to study this concept. The idea is well-known outside these communities. What exactly is the Simulation Hypothesis? Many thinkers outside the box -- from philosophers, tech entrepreneurs and astrophysicists to astrophysicists - have suggested that the reality may be a hyper-realistic high-tech computer simulation overseen a higher consciousness. This is known as the simulation hypothesis. The theory proposes that in order to reduce computational complexity, a system running the simulation could render only the parts of the universe an observer participant wants to see at any given time in a similar way to how it renders in a video game. The theory has one major flaw: it isn't a convincing reason that an advanced civilization should play a simulation of its ancient history. Philosopher Nick Bostrom is a major proponent of the simulation theory, which he describes as the "alt-reality hypothesis." The theory he lays out is that once humans attain the state of being posthuman and acquire the technology to create machines that are capable of running advanced simulations of our ancestors, there's absolutely no reason why they wouldn't also develop their own simulation worlds for themselves. The Matrix Movie The film's basic premise is that the real world and the fictional one are two worlds, which are populated by humans who live in an alternate universe which is controlled by evil computer software. Keanu Reeves is Thomas Anderson, a hacker who goes by the name of Neo In a film that blends Alice in Wonderland with Hong Kong martial arts, the Bible and science fiction. During virtual training sessions, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) informs Neo that the Oracle has foretold the arrival of The One, who will be able to free mankind from the machines. However, when Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) jumps into the Matrix and enters the Matrix, she discovers that the death in the simulation also kills the physical body in addition. Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) is able to capture Neo at a nightclub and is saved by Trinity who inserts a worm in his neck to prevent Neo from being killed the blue-suited robot that is known as Sentinel. Sentinel. Trinity and her team -which includes Switch, Apoc, and Mouse and Apoc, then lead Neo on a dangerous journey to the Matrix's central power source. Second Law of Information Dynamics Researchers have suggested that reality may be a computer simulation. This is akin to Plato's Allegory of the Cave, and Gnosticism's notion that real-world reality is created by the mind. John Wheeler, Nick Bostrom and other physicists have published important papers that suggest that our universe could be a computer-generated simulation. The theories they propose are fascinating, but they require further testing to establish their credibility. Researchers at the University of Portsmouth, however are looking at alternatives that could assist us in determining if we are living in a virtual reality. The Second Law of Information Dynamics or infodynamics is the name they've created. This is a novel theory that frames physical phenomena as the result of an informational process rather than an undefined type of material energy or matter. The principal conclusion is that, unlike the second law, which states that entropy or chaos in any system will grow over time, information entropy will decrease.

Melvin Vopson Melvin Vopson's research breaks down the wall of materialism with mathematical proof that our universe is a computational system with properties similar to a vast quantum simulation. Melvin Vopson's second law on information dynamic reopens the way to the spiritual and scientific worlds, as well as bringing a new resonance to philosophical ideas that depict real-world reality as an illusion. To test his new law Vopson studied two distinct information systems: digital data storage and an RNA genome. Both showed an increase in the entropy of information over time, which is the signature of the second law. It is clear that the universe is simulation and uses an algorithm to aid in optimizing and compressing data. This theory could turn out to be the most important scientific discovery since Einstein's theory of relativity. Some Books a Year, Episode Wharrggle

Mutant Crawl Classics, by Jim Wampler. The Dungeon Crawl Classics system gets adapted to wahoo post-apoc fantasy (think Thundarr the Barbarian, Kamandi the Last Boy on Earth, Planet of the Apes, &c.). Would probably have the same page count as the original Gamma World if there weren't a d30 table for each & every mutation & "wetware program", fumbles, six categories of crit, artifact usage, & on & on & on. Chock full of in-joke callbacks to everything from The Jetsons to The Matrix to a 70s-era margarine commercial. One of the MCC Cryptic Alliance analogues' secret hand sign is literally to throw the horns, which pretty neatly encapsulates the "who cares if it makes sense, it's frickin' metal" ethos of the game.
