"Man Ginger, why don't you like doing lineart for things?"
BECAUSE IT TAKES TOO LONG AAA
Art for me is usually more about getting the broad strokes of an idea out so I can more easily visualise it when writing/planning. This, unfortunately, does tend to clash with my innate need to be good at the things that are important to me but I think I've gotten better about embracing the 'messiness' of my style over the years.
That said, LOOK AT THIS HYAPOLLO WIP I'M WORKING ON?? POLLIE'S COMING OUT SO GOOD LIKE??
Tumblr media
I usually describe Apollo-as-Agreus (Agreus is the name he takes on while he's mingling with the mortalfolk) as having gold-brown hair both because he born a brunet in my story and because the word 'xanthos' in and of itself implies something that encompasses an entire spectrum from true-blond to auburn? My visual shorthand for this has been to just have Agreus' hair be a duller blond than the sunstreaked cloud colour of Apollo's more divine hair but MAN I was NOT expecting to love properly attempting to represent Agreus' hair this much! Ugh, I'm so excited to finish colouring this set of images!!!

Block I and a half Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC).
This developmental unit was on display at VCF East 9.1 way back in 2014, and I'm not sure whom exactly it belonged to. It's more advanced than a Block I but it isn't quite a Block II

Ἡλιος
HELIOS (Helius) was the Titan god of the sun, a guardian of oaths, and the god of sight. He dwelt in a golden palace in the River Okeanos (Oceanus) at the far ends of the earth from which he emerged each dawn, crowned with the aureole of the sun, driving a chariot drawn by four winged steeds. When he reached the the land of the Hesperides in the far West he descended into a golden cup which bore him through the northern streams of Okeanos back to his rising place in the East.
Homeric Hymn 31 to Helius (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th - 4th B.C.) :
"Glowing Helios (Sun) whom mild-eyed Euryphaessa (Wide Shining), the far-shining one, bare to [Hyperion] the son of Gaia (Gaea, Earth) and starry Ouranos (Uranus, Heaven). For Hyperion wedded glorious Euryphaessa, his own sister, who bare him lovely children, rosy-armed Eos (the Dawn) and rich-tressed Selene (the Moon) and tireless Helios (Helius, the Sun) who is like the deathless gods."

Hyakíntha 2024 - Festival Overview
August 6th - 8th
Day 1 - August 6th - Mourning and Preparation
Traditionally, the first day of Hyakíntha was dedicated to mourning Hyacinthus. Offerings were made not only to Hyacinthus, but to the dead in general. This day was one of contemplation and solemn observance.
The Temple will be celebrating this day with a solemn and subdued ceremony (in the form of a text post), focused on reflection and remembrance.
[Ritual Guide Here]
[Actual Ritual Here]
Day 2 - August 7th - Celebration and Competition
In ancient times, this day would be a day of athletic competitions and musical performances. These events were held in honor of Hyacinthus and Lord Apollo. Historically this was also a day that honored the youth of the community, especially young boys due to Apollo's domains.
The Temple will be celebrating this day with an involved and lively ceremony. Including music, art, and devotionals.
Day 3 - August 8th - Feasts and Mysteries
Currently, we do not have any sources that describe the third day in detail. Some sources believe communal feasts were held, while others believe the lack of description is due to Mystery Cults and related activities taking place.
The Temple will be celebrating this day with a secret ceremony that will not be shared online in honor of the Mystery Cults of old. We will also be posting several recipes and crafts to incorporate the communal feast.
If you would like to make a special request for any of the three days, please message us directly and we will do what we can to incorporate your ideas into our festival.
Keep an eye out for our ritual post tomorrow morning (eastern standard time). This will allow for time to prepare before the official ritual goes live at 7pm EST.
Eirene, peace and farewell

Delphinia
~ 6 (or 7) Mounykhion ~
Celebrating Apollon and Aretmis, Delphinia kicked off with unmarried girls proceeding to their shrine/temple on the bank of the Ilissos River.
Tumblr media
Girls carried branches of olive wrapped in white wool in honor to Apollon. Delphinia is thought to be in dedication to Apollon as a god who controlled the sea and fair travel as Theseus had prayed to him for his fallen companions before he set sail.
While in mythos Theseus is connected to Apollon it is more likely that this day was in celebration to his twin, Artemis, as it falls on her holy day. In this sense, the women asked for Artemis' protection and favor. Similarly, maidens were associated with Artemis, not Apollon.
Tumblr media
Modern Hellenist can observe this day by celebrating both the Twins, though I recommend separate. An unmarried women might wish to offer to Artemis for protection and Apollon for fair travels. Men and non-binary people might wish to offer to Artemis for thanks for the protection of women, good hunting, travel at night, or anything else and Apollon for fair travel. You may also wish to thank the Twins for anything they might have done recently for you, or simply offering in thanks to build Kharis.
Traditional Offerings:
Offering of Olive branches in white wool (or yarn/ribbon)
Symbols of Artemis (deer, bows, arrows, antlers, the moon)
Symbols of Apollon (the sun, chariots, bows, arrows, lyre, poetry)
Traditional Acts
Offerings to Artemis and Apollon as Twins
Offerings to Artemis as the protector of unmarried women and young girls
Offerings to Apollon for fair travel
Singing Hymns to the Twins
Khaire Artemis! Khaire Apollon! 🌘🏹☀️
