Generative AI Can Fuck Itself
I am one of the AO3 authors (along with all of my friends) who had their work stolen and fed into a dataset to be sold to the highest bidder for training generative AI models.
I feel angry. I feel violated. I feel devastated. I cannot express enough that if you still do not understand the damage that generative AI art and writing has on our planet, our society, and our artists, I don't know what else there is to say. How do you convince a human being to care more about another humankinds ability to create than their personal need to consume?
Generative AI, when it comes to art, has one goal and one goal only. To steal from artists and reduce the dollar value of their work to zero. To create databases of stolen work that can produce work faster and cheaper than the centuries of human creation those databases are built on. If that isn't enough for you to put away Chatgpt, Midgard, ect ect (which, dear god, please let that be enough), please consider taking time to review MIT's research on the environmental impacts of AI here. The UNEP is also gathering data and has predicted that AI infrastructure may soon outpace the water consumption of entire countries like Denmark.
This is all in the name of degrading, devaluing, and erasing artists in a society that perpetually tries to convince us that our work is worth nothing, and that making a living off of our contributions to the world is some unattainable privilege over an inalienable right.
The theft of the work of fic writers is exceptionally insidious because we have no rights. We enter into a contract while writing fic- We do not own the rights to the work. Making money, asking for money, or exchanging any kind of commercial trade with our written fanfiction is highly illegal, completely immoral, and puts the ability to even write and share fanfiction at risk. And still, we write for the community. We pour our hearts out, give up thousands of hours, and passionately dedicate time that we know we will never and can never be paid for, all for the community, the pursuit of storytelling, and human connection.
We now live in a world where the artist creating their work are aware it is illegal for it to be sold, and contribute anyway, only for bots to come in and scrape it so it can be sold to teach AI databases how to reproduce our work.
At this time, I have locked my fics to allow them only to be read by registered users. It's not a perfect solution, but it appears to be the only thing I can do to make even a feeble attempt at protecting my work. I am devastated to do this, as I know many of my readers are guests. But right now it is between that or removing my work and not continuing to post at all. If you don't have an account, you can easily request one here. Please support the writers making these difficult decisions at this time. Many of us are coping with an extreme violation, while wanting to do everything we can to prevent the theft of our work in the future and make life harder for the robots, even if only a little.
Please support human work. Please don't give up on the fight for an artists right to exist and make a living. Please try to fight against the matrix of consumerism and bring humanity, empathy, and the time required to create back into the arts.
To anyone else who had their work stolen, I am so sorry and sending you lots of love. Please show your favorite AO3 authors a little extra support today.

Welcome to the Thiam Big Bang 2025!
Back by popular demand, it’s time for another Big Bang Event! This time, we’ve got a brand new theme for you all to sink your claws into.
The Theme
'The Big Bad Wolf' is the theme of this year’s Big Bang. In your fic, we would love to see Thiam partnering up against some kind of enemy. Is it the return of Monroe and her hunters? A new supernatural threat? An alternate universe with its own monsters? There are no wrong answers here!
How does this work?
Writers will create an original Theo/Liam work. In a few weeks, writers will submit summaries of their works. During this time, there will be a claiming phase for artists to claim a writer’s summary that they want to create art for. You will then work with your writer/artist/beta to create amazing works for the Big Bang!
What are the rules?
There is a minimum word limit of 10k. There is no maximum word count. We also ask that you produce a finished work by the final deadline.
Artists, create to your heart’s content using whatever medium you prefer. These include, but are not limited to: music playlists, video edits, aesthetics, moodboards, drawings, etc. The world is your oyster!
The main pairing must exclusively be Thiam - poly relationships including Thiam are not allowed. Side pairings/relationships are still allowed, but Thiam must be the central focus and endgame pairing of your fic.
Your fic can be any genre; canon, AU, etc. The floor is yours to write what you want, as long as it includes a Big Bad Wolf! Take your prompt and run wild with it!
Your entry for the Big Bang cannot be a work that is already published in any form. This must be a creation from scratch! Sequels to existing fics are allowed, as long as it has not already been published.
During the Big Bang, works must not be made public before final posting dates. You can of course talk with your friends, beta, and artist, for plot points, ideas, etc. Please also keep details about your story a secret during the course of the event. This keeps it a fun surprise for everyone when works are posted!
Work together with your partners as you create! This is meant to be a collaborative effort. Artists and authors, please communicate with each other about your vision. The two of you need to work together for this event to be a success for all!
If an author and artist wish to pair up on their own and create, please do so! The more participants, the merrier! Please make sure that both parties fill out the sign-up sheet for the sake of check-ins.
Betas:
Betas are not required for this event. If you have your own beta, great! Betas usually help with grammar and spelling but can also help with ideas, plot holes, etc. Beta readers, please sign up using the form provided. It will be the same form used for artists and authors.
Cheerleaders:
If you are also interested in being a cheerleader for our writers/artists, please jump right in! Cheerleaders offer encouragement, support, can act as a sounding board for ideas, or just generally chat about Thiam and/or the Big Bang event. You can be a cheerleader and a beta, a cheerleader for an artist, author or both. It will be the same form used for artists and authors.
A friend and I already have an idea for a fanfic/fanart collaboration - do we still have to go through the traditional sign up?
The Big Bang is the perfect occasion to do a collab! The sign-up form is adapted to these situations. So, yes, we do ask that you fill out the sign up form and state that you are partnered already. Artists will not receive the prompt bank in this case. You will still need to take part in check ins so that we know you are on track for posting dates.
Can I sign up with a co-author?
Yes! When filling out the sign up form, please state your co-author and ask them to submit a form as well.
Can I sign up as a writer AND an artist?
Yes you can! But please make sure you can fulfill the responsibilities you’re signing up for. Please ensure you have time to complete your fic and create art for the writer you are paired up with.
What happens if there is an uneven number of writers and artists?
We will have an option for artists/authors to do a second pairing, and advertise for pinch hitters if needed. We will do everything we can to ensure that every prompt has both a writer and an artist so everyone can participate in this event.
Checkpoints:
We will send out reminder emails during each checkpoint. These will be gentle reminders, used for encouragement and motivation, to check in with you in your writing process. The first mandatory checkpoint will be June 29th, where we will ask for confirmation that writer and artist partners have been in contact with each other. The second mandatory checkpoint will be July 27th, and the final mandatory checkpoint will be August 30th, where writers and artists must confirm you are on track for finishing your work by the posting week.
What if I need to drop out?
We know real life can get in the way sometimes. If you need to drop out, can’t meet the deadline, etc. please contact the mods ASAP (preferably no later than the second mandatory check-in on July 27th so we can find a pinch hitter).
Posting/ Submissions:
There will be a Thiam Big Bang collection on AO3 to post all of your works. If you don’t have an AO3 account, you can sign up here. Please be aware that it might take several weeks to get an invitation to create an account. If you are a member of the OTL Discord, post and ask members if they have any invitations they can share with you as many of us have multiple we can give out. Submissions are posted on AO3, and it must be a masterpost of the fic and art. The collection will be unrevealed and moderated to ensure that posts are not revealed before the final due date.
Tumblr Posts:
When posting on tumblr, please use #thiambigbang25 and #officialthiamlibrary in your first five tags so we can find it and reblog your works. Again, when posting on Tumblr, it must be a masterpost with both the fic and art. Please DO NOT post your final works before the final deadline. And of course, if tumblr is acting wonky and your posts are still not showing up in the tags, you can always mention us in the post, submit it here, or email us at [email protected].

Stony Loves Steve 2025
Hello, Everyone! Stony Loves Steve is back for another year!
We’re back again to celebrate Steve’s birthday, July 4th, with Stony Loves Steve! This is a Steve/Tony gift exchange where participants create and receive Steve-centric fanworks.
There are plenty of wonderful creations based on Tony, and that’s awesome!. For this exchange, however, we’re choosing to focus on Steve. We hope to see more works exploring him and his side of his relationship with Tony across the Marvel multiverse, whether that relationship is slash or friendship.
Sign-ups will open on April 13th and run until April 27th. Additional scheduling info here.
An AO3 account is necessary to participate as the exchange is run through the site. If you do not already have one, please request one ASAP as it may take some time for AO3 to send your invitation. You can do that here. You can also contact us at [email protected] we may be able to provide you with an invitation.
As with last year we are allowing podfic, so don’t forget to check out our FAQ for rules and requirements!

Pingxie Exchange 2025: Schedule and Guidelines Post
Hi and welcome to the Pingxie Exchange: a fic, art, and fanvid exchange about the Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling pairing.
In this exchange, participants will be anonymously matched to create gifts for one another during a five week creation period. The gifts will be revealed on August 17th: the day Wu Xie welcomed Xiaoge back after his 10-year-long absence behind the Bronze Gate.
This exchange is open to all the DMBJ canons (adaptations featuring Wu Xie or Xiaoge and the original novels). It will take place on AO3, so you need an AO3 account to participate--if you don’t have one, you can request it here; if there isn’t enough time, no worries - contact the mods at [email protected], on DreamWidth, or on tumblr, and we can send you an invitation!
Schedule
Sign-ups open: June 11th Sign-ups end: June 24th 11:59 PM Anywhere On Earth (what time is it for me?) Matching: June 24th Assignments out: no later than June 25th Assignments due: August 10th 11:59 PM Anywhere On Earth (what time is it for me?) Gift reveals: August 17th Creator reveals and treats deadline: August 24th
Further information behind the cut...
Guidelines
This is a ship exchange: as such, all the works created for this event must be focused on Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling. Works with threesomes/moresomes or other pairings involving Wu Xie and/or Zhang Qiling are not appropriate for this exchange, but background ships of other characters are fine.
You will be expected to create a gift matching your recipient’s request. Filling any specific prompt is not obligatory, but try to create something you honestly think your recipient will enjoy!
You must not include anything stated as “do not want” in your recipient’s sign-up.
The minimum requirements for the gifts are 300 words for fic, one sketch on unlined paper for art (traditional or digital; no manips), or 30 seconds of video for fanvids.
After the matching is done, all the requests will be made visible to everyone to allow for treating! There are no minimum requirements for treats (but remember to mind your recipient’s do not wants!). You can also create manips for treats.
Please note: Now that AO3 has changed the way that gifting works on the archive, if you wish to be eligible for treats, you need to select the option "Allow anyone to gift me works" under the "Collections, Challenges and Gifts" section of your AO3 preferences. You must also indicate that you are open to treats in your exchange sign-up.
This is an anonymous exchange: refrain from discussing your assignment in public. After the works are revealed, there will be a one week anon period when the creators remain anonymous before the creator reveals. DO NOT post your creation anywhere but the AO3 collection (e.g., Tumblr, Twitter/X, Bluesky, Dreamwidth, etc.) before authors are revealed on the 24th. If you do this, you will not be allowed to participate next year.
If at any point you need to drop out, just click on the “default” button on your AO3 assignment page (https://archiveofourown.org/users/YOURNAME/assignments); we’ll find a pinch hitter to create a gift for your recipient instead. If you need an extension to finish your gift, contact the mods before the deadline.
After the reveals, comment on your gift.
Most importantly: be excellent to each other!
Sign-Up information
Sign-ups will take place on AO3 here, starting on June 11th. There, you can fill out details about your request and offer. You can edit your sign-up at any time until the sign-ups close.
When signing up, you will be able to choose fandom, "character" (this is actually going to be the fanwork type: fanart, fanfiction, or fanvid), and genre tags, as well as specify any additional details.
You will have to select the DMBJ canon you’re interested in creating for and receiving a gift in:
Novels: The Grave Robbers’ Chronicles
TV: The Lost Tomb 1
TV: The Lost Tomb 2 - Explore with the Note
TV: The Lost Tomb 2.5 - Heavenly Palace on the Clouds
TV: Ultimate Note
TV: Adventure Behind the Bronze Door
TV: Tomb of the Sea/Sha Hai
TV: The Lost Tomb Reboot/Reunion: The Sound of Providence
Movies: Conjuring Curse (2023) & Misty Creed (2023) -- rare canon
Movies: Time Raiders -- rare canon
Video Games: Time Raiders (mobile game) -- rare canon
Note: If you choose a rare canon, then you must also choose at least one non-rare canon.
You are not limited to requesting or creating a work during the canon timelines for those series/books. It’s just to mark which canons you’re familiar with to allow for easier matching: some participants might have a preference for a particular canon era, some might not be familiar with all the versions. You still have to choose your preferred canon eras even if you want to create or receive an AU.
You will have to specify which "characters" you’re interested in:
Fanart
Fanfiction
Fanvid
(That's right, this isn't really a character selector; it was the only way I could include fanwork type preference in the matching.)
You will also have to specify genres you’re interested in:
Action/Adventure
Angst
AU
Canon Compliant
Canon Divergent
Dark
Domesticity/Slice of Life
Fluff
Humour/Crack
Hurt/Comfort
PWP (only select this if you’re 18+)
Request
In this section, you describe the gift you would like to receive.
Note: please make sure that if you are requesting something that you really would be happy to receive a gift for it. Don't try to pad out your signup by requesting something you would not enjoy. The goal is for everyone, creators and recipients, to have fun, after all!
The requests will be made publicly visible after matching is done, so that others will be able to create treats (additional gifts) based on them! So, please don't write anything in your optional details that you wouldn't want everyone to see.
Fandom - you have to choose at least one. If you’re willing to receive a gift in any canon era, you can just click “Any”!
Character (remember this is really fanwork type) - you have to choose at least one tag.
Genre - you have to choose at least three tags.
Optional Details - here’s where you can go into more detail about your perfect pingxie gift! You can include:
General Likes: your creator may, but doesn’t have to, include them. This isn’t a place for detailed prompts, just general themes you enjoy, like getting together or established relationship.
DNW (Do Not Wants): things that your creator must not include - squicks, triggers, things that you simply don’t like. Remember that you don’t owe anyone an explanation about why something is a DNW, and that DNWs are not meant to be taken personally. Just list the things you don’t like, “DNW: X, Y.”
Prompts/specific ideas: if you have any prompts, you can also put them here! You can be as general or as detailed as you’d like but remember that while your creator will try to make the best gift for you, filling a specific prompt is not obligatory. You can include a crossover prompt (with other DMBJ versions or other canons), but make sure it’s not the only prompt you have.
If you chose novels as one of your fandoms, you can use this field to list the ones you’re familiar with. If you're interested in receiving a Buried Tree Devil - Book 3 Donghua gift, you can also mention it here.
Optional Tags: You may use the optional tags to share more about your preferences, if you like.
Offer
Note: please make sure that if you are offering something that you really would be happy to create for it. Don't try to pad out your signup by offering something you could not easily create a gift for. The goal is for everyone, creators and recipients, to have fun, after all!
Fandom - you have to choose at least one. If you’re willing to receive a gift in any canon era, you can just click “Any”!
Character (remember this is really fanwork type) - you have to choose at least one tag.
Genre - you have to choose at least three tags.
Optional Details - in this field, you can tell us more about the kind of works you like to create, for example if you really prefer established relationship, feel best with certain kinds of AUs, or like writing darkfic. You can also tell us if you have a preference of which type of gift you will create (fic or art). We’ll take all of these optional details into account when matching!
If you chose novels as one of your fandoms, you can use this field to list the ones you’re familiar with. If you're interested in creating a Buried Tree Devil - Book 3 Donghua gift, you can also mention it here.
In the optional details of your offer, you can also name one person you don’t want to be matched to, for example your regular beta, and we will do our best to avoid matching you!
Optional Tags: You may use the optional tags to share more about your preferences, if you like. The offers will only ever be visible to the mods; never to anyone else.
Your assignment
You will be matched to create a gift for someone who requested at least one of the fandoms that you offered and one of the fanwork types you offered, with as many similar genres/likes as possible. This exchange will be matched using the AO3 algorithm to generate the initial matches and then tweaked by hand, if necessary, based on the information provided in everyone's optional details.
If you have any issues when you receive your assignment (you have a question about it or think there’s an issue with it), contact the mods as soon as possible. Do not contact your recipient on your own.
You will have to create a gift for your recipient, fulfilling the minimum requirements, and avoiding any stated "do not wants". Filling exact prompts is optional but try to create something matching your recipient's likes that they will enjoy!
You will have to post your gift to the exchange AO3 collection before the due date (August 10th), using the "gift this work to" option to give it to your recipient. Your work will remain in the collection only visible to you and the mods until the reveals happen. Remember to tag your work appropriately, especially if any of the major archive warnings apply, or use the "choose not to warn" warning.
Treating
Treats are additional gifts for the participants! To allow for treating, the requests will be made visible when matching is done. You can create treats at any time until the creator reveals! There are no minimum requirements for treats, and in addition to the fanwork types allowed for gifts, manips are also allowed. As with assignments, you have to respect the recipient’s Do Not Want, and while the optional details are optional, try to create something fitting the listed likes. One treat can only be gifted to one person.
Please note: Now that AO3 has changed the way that gifting works on the archive, if you wish to be eligible for treats, you need to select the option “Allow anyone to gift me works” under the “Collections, Challenges and Gifts” section of your AO3 preferences. You must also indicate that you are open to treats in your exchange sign-up.
Pinch Hits
In case someone needs to drop out, we will look for a pinch hitter to complete their assignment. Pinch hits will be posted to the DreamWidth community and advertised on tumblr.
Extensions
If you think you can finish your assignment, but you need a day or two more, you can always ask the mods for an extension!
Other important information
Make sure to check the email you use on AO3 frequently during the exchange, as it will be the primary means of communication. We might contact you if there is an issue with your sign-up or if your gift creator has a question for you. If you’d rather we contact you on your twitter or tumblr, please leave your handle in the offer section of your sign-up. Follow us on DreamWidth and/or on tumblr to avoid missing an announcement or a deadline! If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact the mods at [email protected], on DreamWidth (anonymous comments are allowed), or on tumblr.
A very large thank you to laireshi for writing the rules and guidelines being used for this exchange. They are presented here with minor changes.

KotLC Recursive Exchange
Schedule (in CDT)
May 31: Discord server opens. Work nominations open.
June 14: Sign-ups open.
June 25: Work nominations close.
June 28: Sign-ups close.
July 1: Assignments are out.
July 31: Assignments are due.
August 7: Works are revealed, with all creators anonymous.
August 14: Creators are revealed.
August 17: Discord server closes.
What is this event?
This is an exchange where you make fanworks based off of fanworks! Like when someone draws fanart based on their favorite fanfiction. During work nominations, people will nominate the works they want involved in the exchange. You'll then be able to sign up to make fanfiction, fanart, poetry, and/or podfic based on these works.
This one will be a bit trickier to sign up for than our last exchange, but there will be tutorials and people happy to help! And please feel free to join the Discord even if you're not sure you want to participate. There are more resources, like a glossary of terms, there.
Gift Minimums:
Fic: 1000 words, with an ending
Art: A drawing completed to the standard you would normally post as "finished"
Poetry: 150 words OR a sonnet, villanelle, cascade, ghazal, pantoum, rondeau, or sestina
Podfic: Audio of either 1000 words or the complete work, whichever is shorter
Basic Rules for Participating:
You must be 13 or older.
You must join the Discord server and follow all the rules listed there.
You must have an AO3 account, sign up through AO3, and post your gift on AO3.
You must do your best to make a gift that meets the minimum requirements, and that you think your recipient will like, within the time of the event.
You must contact a moderator as soon as possible if you think you will not finish your gift in time.
You must keep your gift and recipient anonymous until creator reveals.

FAQ
How will this event work?
You will sign up by offering and requesting gifts based on specific fanworks. These fanworks will be nominated during the work nominations period, and they will all have to have permission statements from their creators to be eligible.
For example, maybe I really want a story based on bookwyrminspiration's Shattered Upside Down, but about a specific side character. Quil has a permission statement on their AO3 profile saying fanworks are okay (with credit, and without AI). So I could nominate Shattered Upside Down and then request that story!
I can't find a permission statement from a creator. What do I do?
Ask nicely! You could try something like "Hi, I love your [stories/art/etc]! I'm going to be participating in an event where people make fic, art, and other fanworks inspired by KotLC fanworks. Would you be okay with people making fanworks based on your [stories/art/etc]?"
How many fanworks do I need to sign up?
You'll need to request at least three different works, and you'll need to offer at least four different works. At least two requests and three offers can't be based on works made by you.
What if I don't match with anyone?
If no one requests what you offer: We'll give you an opportunity to offer more things. If you do not want to, you will unfortunately not be able to participate in the exchange.
If no one offers what you request: You can still participate. We'll put you up as a pinch hit, meaning people can offer to make a gift for you without being assigned to.
What if no one knows about the work that I want to nominate?
There will be a channel to promote it in the Discord! Tell people all about why they should love it.
What if I don't get a gift?
We won't reveal the works until everyone has a gift. If no one picks up a pinch hit, the exchange will remain closed until someone does. Everyone who participates will receive a gift.
What isn't allowed in the exchange?
For the comfort of the most number of participants: noncon, incest, bestiality, romantic relationships between characters who are canonically adults (over 18) and characters who are canonically minors (under 18), and NSFW are not permitted. AI is also not allowed.
Considering the series, graphic violence and major character death are allowed, but only if the recipient says they're okay with receiving them.
My recipient requested ten things! How many do I have to make?
Only one! You can choose any of your recipient's requests to make, even ones you didn't originally offer.
Can I make more than one gift?
If you have more than one AO3 account, you may sign up multiple times. But please only do this if you're sure you can finish both gifts in time!
You can also be a pinch hitter, filling in for people who drop out, or make "treats"—extra gifts just for fun. But you won't receive extra gifts for either of these things.

Warhammer 40,000 Summer Fest Exchange: Nominations open!
The tag set for the Summer Fest Exchange is now open for nominations!
Nominations close on May 31 at 5:59pm CEST | 11:59am EDT | 8:59am PDT | 11:59pm CST (countdown).
If you are new to gift exchanges on AO3, here is a guide on how to submit character/relationship nominations to the WH40K Summer Fest Exchange tag set. 👇
What is the tag set for?
Put shortly, the tag set is our shared wishlist for characters and relationships we'd like to see in this exchange.
Like most exchanges on AO3, the WH40K Summer Fest begins with a two-step setup period:
During the nomination period (May 17–May 31), anyone can submit characters and relationships to the tag set created for the exchange.
During the sign-up period (June 1–June 14), participants submit requests and offers for characters/relationships from the tag set they would like to receive or create fanfic/fanart for. At the end of the sign-up period, the exchange mods will match participants based on their requests and offers.
You can only sign up to request or offer the characters and relationships contained in the tag set, so make sure to submit your nominations before Saturday May 31, 5:59pm CEST | 11:59am EDT | 8:59am PDT | 11:59pm CST (countdown). After this time, the tag set will close and additional nominations cannot be added.
How to nominate
You'll need an AO3 account to participate in this exchange. If you do not have an account, you can request an invitation to join the Archive here – the wait time is currently around 8 days.
Find the link to the tag set in the info box at the top of the exchange's profile page (or click here).
On the tag set page, click 'nominate' in the top right corner.
Choose 'Warhammer 40.000' for the fandom.
All nominations go in the 'Warhammer 40.000' fandom category, even if they belong to other media, e.g., the Horus Heresy series, the Rogue Trader computer game, etc. Nominations are only used for matching participants; when you upload your gift to AO3, you can use the fandom tag(s) of your choice.
Both characters and relationships go in the 'relationship' box for matching purposes.
Add characters to the tagset by writing: Character: Name and finishing with a comma.
Add pairings by writing Name/Name (for romantic or sexual pairings) or Name & Name (for platonic pairings/friendships/enemyships – any specific characters you want interacting in a non-romantic/non-sexual way). If the tag has been used on AO3 before, you can choose it from the dropdown menu, otherwise finish with a comma.
You can nominate Original Characters as characters or in relationships. HOWEVER, note that it will be the creator's choice which OC to use; e.g., if you request "Saint Celestine/Original Female Character," the creator can use an OC you suggest but can also use their own idea. You may nominate original characters that specify an OC's faction ("Original Ultramarine & Original Tau Fire Warrior") and/or gender ("Original Transfem Sister of Battle/Original Nonbinary Imperial Guard").
You can also nominate 'Any' characters, e.g., "Sanguinius & Any Blood Angel(s)", "Ciaphas Cain/Any Canon Female Character", to give the creator freedom to choose which character(s) to include.
You can nominate up to 20 characters or pairings.
Once you are done, click 'submit' at the bottom of the page.
You can add more characters and pairings, up to 20, by clicking 'My nominations' on the tag set page, but once your nominations have been approved by the mods they can't be deleted.
If you nominate something that has already been nominated by someone else, or if the mods change the wording/order of names to match archive conventions (e.g., "Ulfar of the Space Wolves" ➡ "Ulfar Redmane"), it may continue to appear on your 'My nominations' page as unapproved. Click 'Expand All' on the tag set page to see a full list of all nominated characters/relationships and check if your nominations are included, possibly under a slightly different name.
It may take up to 24+ hours for nominations to be approved, so please don't delete your unapproved nominations.
If you have any questions about your nominations, contact the mods at [email protected] or here on tumblr.
Remember to follow this page for updates on nomination clarifications and more.

What is this event?
This is a fandom gift exchange for recursive fic— fic of fic— within the MCYT fandom. We are also allowing recursive art and web weaves and podfic— art, web weaves, and podfic inspired by fic, art, podfic, and other web weaves!
Gift Minimums:
Fic: 1k words
Art: 1 drawing, completed to a standard you would normally post as “finished”. This varies by art style, but we expect at least a clean sketch on unlined paper, or equivalent in your style.
Web Weave: a compilation or collage with a minimum of 10 elements, appropriately sourced.
Podfic: Audio or multi-voice audio of a minimum of 1k words or the complete work, whichever is shorter, edited to whatever level you normally post as finished.
Rules for Participating:
Must join our Discord for communication, and follow all discord rules.
Must do your best to produce a gift that meets the minimum requirements within the time of the event.
Must contact a mod ASAP if you don’t think you’ll get your gift out on time or at all, or you want to withdraw
Must request a gift (offer prompts) from at least three source materials and offer to create from at least four source materials.
Any under-18 persons found requesting or offering NSFW content will be banned from this and all future iterations of the exchange.
Because of Tumblr, Ao3 and Discord TOS, you must be 13 or older to participate.
Rules for Creating:
Your gift doesn’t have to contain only the characters requested by your giftee, but it does have to centre on at least one requested character.
Any shipping must be kept to PG-13 levels or below unless your recipient specifically requested NSFW. Any non-requested NSFW is grounds for a ban from this and all future iterations of the exchange. NSFW can only be requested if you are in the 18+ collection.
Respect your giftee's DNW (Do Not Want) list. Any gift found to be in violation of a reasonable DNW is grounds for a ban from future iterations of the exchange.
Dark or Violent themes must be tagged appropriately.
Major Archive Warnings must be opted into. Any non-requested major archive warnings are grounds from a ban from this and all future iterations of the exchange.
Prepare a gift in good faith, attempting to make something your recipient will like. Mods reserve the right to ban people for being an asshole.
No AI-created content.

Blanket Permission Statement Database (not exhaustive of every author with permission, but can be a place to start) (currently down for re-work!): [link]
FAQ:
How does a fandom gift exchange work?
People fill out a signup where they offer prompts for gifts they would like to receive, then also offer types of gifts they are willing to make, and then they're matched on Ao3 so everyone gets an assignment to make a gift for another person. All these gifts go into a big collection, and they're revealed when everyone participating has a gift.
How will this event work?
This is a Derivative Works recursive exchange. People nominate fics or art that either have a blanket permission statement (fun database here), or a comment from the author saying that works inspired by their work is okay. Then each work is entered into the official tag set as its own thing you can request. People sign up as they would for a normal exchange, with up to ten of these fic fandoms as being something you are either offering to write for or requesting for your own gift. Once matched, you then write a side story, prequel, sequel, AU, or something else within the universe of that fic.
For example, I had the idea that I really want to see a side story about Etho and Iskall in This Is About A Stuffed Bird, by Bee_4. I will sign up and request that fic as one of my fandoms (and others, you need a minimum of three fandoms), and meanwhile I’m offering to write people’s requests for This Is About A Stuffed Bird by Bee_4, the trinkets and the treasures we brought back from the crusades by Odaigahara, The Extradition by Onelituli, or The Dollhouse by MawoftheMagnetar.
I will be matched during matching week, we'll have our creation period like is usual for an exchange, and when I post my gift I will be using both the "gift to" function (to my recipient) and the "inspired by" function (to whoever's fic I'm writing something inspired by). Once posted, there will be an anonymous period of the exchange where I get a mystery gift and my gifter gets a gift that is on anon as well, and then all will be revealed a week later.
The author I want to make fic for isn't on the database, what do I do?
In that case, you would check to see if the author has a listed permission statement that isn't in the database (this is normally under the "bio" section of an author's profile on Ao3). If they do not have one, check if they have a listed way to contact them, or comment (politely) on the fic that you're interested in, asking permission to enter the work in an exchange making works inspired by mcyt art (see template below).
To be accepted as a source material for this exchange, you would need either a blanket permission statement that is unlimited—"feel free to make any fic you want"—or limited in a way that is simple for the mod team to check on. "No NSFW fic" is simple to check, "No bad dad Phil" is not. You may ask this only in a polite way, and do not show up asking them in four different venues. We do not want this to turn into harassment of authors.
If there are multiple authors for a work, you need a permission statement from each one.
Orphaned works, or deleted-with-permission-to-repost works will be considered to have given permission for recursive work, as the author has given up the fic. Anonymous fics still require author permission, as the author retains creative control of the work.
What do I say to ask permission?
This is just an example, but feel free to say something along the lines of: "Hey, I really like your [fic/art]! I’m going to be participating in an exchange where people make fic and art inspired by MCYT works, and I was wondering if you are okay with people making fic/art/web weaves/other fanworks based on your [fic/art]?"
How many fandoms/fics do I need to sign up?
To increase matching possibilities, we will be using Yuletide rules for sign up. You must request a minimum of three unique source materials, and you must offer a minimum of four unique source materials. "Source Materials" here refers to fics, art, or web weaves. Your source materials do not need to come from different originating servers.
You must make sure that you request at least two source materials that are not created by you, and offer at least three source materials that are not created by you.
What happens if I don't match to anyone?
If there is no one who you can create for, you will be offered the opportunity to add more source materials to your sign-up. If you do not wish to add any more fics or art to your signup, you will not be able to participate in the exchange, and your signup will be deleted. It's a good idea to keep an eye on the sign-ups during the sign-up period, to make sure that you're matchable to someone's requests!
If there is no one who can create for you, you will go up as an Initial Pinch Hit, and somone will volunteer to make a fic or art for you.
What if no one knows about the source material (art/fic) that I want to nominate?
There will be a promo channel in the discord! You can make your pitch for why your source material is the best and everyone should love it there.
I can’t finish my gift in time, now what?
No worries, life happens. The important thing is that you notify the mods as soon as possible, so that a Pinch Hitter can be assigned. A Pinch Hitter is an artist or writer who steps in to save the day and make a new gift on an accelerated timeline.
I want to be a pinch hitter!
First of all, thank you. I hope you're ready to speed-read some fic, and then create like the wind. There will be a role in the discord that you can assign, and then you'll be pinged with a pinch hit request when they go out!
What if no one signs up to make a gift for me when I go up as a Pinch Hit?
The exchange will not open until everyone has a gift. If Pinch Hits are not picked up until the deadline, the work reveals will be delayed until someone is able to pick up the PInch Hit. This will continue for as long as necessary until everyone has a gift.
Is shipping allowed?
Yes. Because there is no broad fandom-wide consensus about how Creator boundaries are to be enforced in specific cases (whether it's okay to write beeduo as /r or /p is an obvious one, or whether it’s permitted to ship Joel Smallishbeans) or between specific fandoms (Lifesteal approach to shipping and boundaries is different from HBG is different from DSMP), the mods will not be policing any specific understanding of boundaries across the event. The event will operate on Don't Like Don't Read, in that everyone will have the chance to opt in for themselves as to if they want certain relationships to be written as platonic or romantic, and NSFW will have to be specifically opted into. Delivering un-asked for shipping or NSFW is grounds for a ban from the event.
Is NSFW allowed?
Yes. NSFW works are allowed, but must be specifically opted into. You are only allowed to opt into NSFW within the 18-plus collection. No one under 18 is permitted to join the 18-plus collection and attempts to do so will be grounds for a ban from this event and anywhere else the mod team touches. For the comfort of the greatest number of participants, anything with the tags Underage Sex or Adult/Minor will not be permitted to be part of the event.
How are Minors defined for the purposes of those warnings?
We are using the age within the work— so if the fic itself would require the tags. This applies both to works nominated as source materials and as works given as gifts. There are many well-known fics that either age up or age down their characters, and people will be operating within those canons. It does not make sense to make a list of characters who are minors (or by extension, who are not), when the source materials people are pulling from can have set the characters ages anywhere from infant to immortal, regardless of what the original streams were. As such, we will be asking people to make sure that the work they create has all necessary characters being of-age in the text, even if the source material has them as younger. In cases of ambiguity the mods will be interpreting with an attempt at good faith, but note that clear attempt to circumvent the content rules will fall under the "do not be an asshole" provision and could also result in a ban.
Is RPF allowed?
This is intended to be a character-focused exchange, but a lot of older works in this fandom are still tagged as Video Blogging RPF, Minecraft, or are wrangled into VB RPF. Because of this, and because with some duos or groups the line between RPF and RP is fuzzy anyways, the mod team will not be legislating what counts as MCYT for the purposes of this exchange. We will be taking your word for it.
Is Dark/Violent content allowed?
Yes. For many of us, the source material that originally drew us to the fandom includes major character death, torture, murder-for-hire, death games, public executions and more. The fanfiction that arose from the source material follows in that trend. We will allow dark content to be part of the event, but it must be tagged for.
We also ask that participants use best judgement in delivering commonly triggering topics un-asked for. If a triggering topic is a canonical element in a work, we will assume that to be a tacit opt-in. We reserve the right to ban people at mod's discretion for delivering unrequested triggering content, under the "do not be an asshole" rule.
What sort of triggering topics should be avoided?
We do not want to put down a list because any list would naturally be non-exhaustives, so we are primarily asking people to use their best judgement. If a trope involves extreme physical violence, violation of consent, dehumanization, extreme terror or fear, body horror, or death, then it should probably not be included unless specifically asked for or checked with your recipient via the mods.
Note that if a triggering topic is a canonical element in a work— for example suicide, child death, or addiction— we will assume that to be a tacit opt-in unless the person specifies differently.
Are major archive warnings (noncon/underage/graphic depictions of violence/MCD) allowed?
Aside from the content rules governing NSFW (no underage or adult/minor, for the comfort of the greatest number of participants), major archive warnings are allowed. Depictions of real life horrors such as genocide and slavery are not-uncommon motifs in MCYT fics, and the mod team is not interested in legislating which types of horrors, griefs or abuses are inherently worse than others and are therefore off-limits. Because holding writing to a quality standard or saying only survivors can write atrocities is unworkable from a moderation standpoint, the three mentioned major archive warnings (MCD, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Noncon), are permitted to be included.
However, Major Archive Warnings must be explicitly opted into on Ao3. For the comfort of the greatest number of participants, participants in the all-ages collection will not be able to opt into noncon. Delivering un-asked for major archive warnings is grounds for a ban from this event. The mod team reserves the right to warn other mod teams on both the MCYT and Multi-fandom side about your bad behaviour.
Is AI content permitted?
No. Specifically, what is colloquially referred to as “AI” content— large language models such as Chat GPT or Midjourney that have been trained on Common Crawl’s unsourced art and writing— is not permitted. Machine-assisted writing or art helpers such as spell check or grammarly are fine.
What is a DNW?
All participants will have the opportunity to fill out a DNW, which stands for Do Not Want. This is anything that has the potential to ruin a gift for you, and is where you opt out of content that would trigger, squick, or just displease you. DNWs must be phrased politely, (so no "No foster aus because they suck and you suck if you like them"), and they must be reasonable, (so no attempting to box someone into a specific gift, i.e. "DNW anything that isn't a space au where Tommy is a dinosaur-hybrid and Tubbo is a ghost bee and they rampage through the living ship named Las Nevadas"), and they must be specific and clear, (so no “no triggering content"), but they can be as petty (disliking specific art styles) or as broad-reaching (no modern aus, no specific ships, no crossovers with specific servers or fics) as you like. Deliberately breaking someone's DNW is grounds for a ban from the exchange.
How do I sign up/nominate?
We made specific posts for this, as it's a bit complicated! You can check them out here.
How many source materials can I nominate?
You can nominate a maximum of 10 source materials!
My recipient requested 10 things, but I've only read four of them. How many gifts do I have to make?
You only have to make ONE gift, no matter how many things you matched on. Match on ten source materials— you make one gift. Match on one source material— you make one gift.
Can I do the exchange anonymously?
While your offers remain private, and you can always give a gift on anon, your requests will be public, and you will receive a gift publically. We would recommend that you not request anything that you do not want publically associated with your account, or use a sock account if you're concerned. Moreover, you must publicly join the discord, so this is not the exchange to participate in if you want to be 100% anonymous.
Can I make more than one gift?
If you wish to sign up twice, you will need two Ao3 accounts, and you will need to change your discord name to indicate that both accounts are yours, so we know we have you in the discord. You'll also need to inform the mods that you are using a sock account, so we can make sure that we do not match you to yourself.
If you do not want to go through all of that hassle, you are still welcome to make as many gifts as you want, and give them as treats! Treats are extra gifts— on top of your normal assignment— that you manually address to the recipient and manually add to the collection, and they'll be revealed along with all the normal gifts when we do the grand reveal. Treats do not have to meet minimum, but they do have to be complete works. Treats are very welcome!

Fic: Out of Eden, Ch. 65, The Spices Thereof

Chapter 65 of Out of Eden, aka the big Mormon!Klaine fic, is up on AO3!
Fic Summary: As a gay Mormon, Kurt Hummel has decided to go the rest of his life without falling in love. But toward the end of his two years as a missionary in Germany, Elder Blaine Anderson moves into his apartment—and Kurt’s best-laid plans fall apart.
Chapter Summary: Kurt and Blaine discover new delights..
Kurt was drunk on love. Blaine filled his senses—the sweet, familiar smell of him; the taste of his mouth and skin; the warmth of his touch in new places. Things Kurt had once thought were profane were the opposite of that. Their bodies were vessels of grace, and through Blaine, Kurt was learning that their desires could be sacred, too.
Read it on AO3: Chapter 65—The Spices Thereof
Additional notes: Unfortunately, recent events have led me to set my account to be viewable only by individuals who have logged in to AO3. If you do not have an account, please message me with your email address and I will send you an invitation. If you do not want to share your email address with me, you can get an invite directly from AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/invite_requests.
@gleekto, I finally got to your negotiation prompt. Well, at least, the first part of negotiations.
And finally—@gleefulpoppet, I cannot thank you enough for the art and beta and reassurance and squeeing! You make posting so much more fun!

Before I forget because I just checked Ao3: The percentage of guest kudos on all of my fics is really really high, so I assume the percentage of people reading without an account is also really high. I think if you're an avid fic reader you should try and request an account now that it's open again. I haven't archive-locked my fics yet but it really is the smart thing to do with AI scraping and the attacks on the platform. It can take a while to receive an invitation so... idk use this as your sign maybe.
Resquest here!

hello! i am new here so im sorry if this is the wrong way to do this! Just wanted to share that syat has kept me going through law school and finals so tysm for that!! i noticed the other day that it seemed to be missing from ao3 when i went to reread and was just wondering if it would be returning/continuing. no rush or pressure ofc!! thank you for all the feels :)

omg hi honey!! you are so so sweet for this - I'm so touched syat could keep you company in a stressful time, that makes me so happy <3 (and omg, I hope your finals went well you smarty pants!!)
syat is absolutely still continuing (the next chapter is almost done!) - the reason it disappeared on ao3 is that I did recently make the (very unfortunate) decision to lock my fics on ao3 to be visible to registered users only, because ao3 was recently scraped for AI (without consent, ofc) and it was largely unlocked fics that were stolen (including most of mine, sadly). I didn't ever want to lock them because I don't like the idea of restricting them from folks who want to read them, but honestly I was just so sad to know my hundreds of thousands of words of my writing and time was stolen to train someone's ai that I decided to do it, at least for now. it's not a perfect system, but it's one little safeguard I guess, if that makes sense :,(
which means that sadly if you don't have an ao3 account (or aren't logged into your account), my fics aren't visible - but for registered users they are there! if you don't have an account, I'm so so sorry.
if you're willing to sign up for an ao3 account (ofc there is no pressure AT ALL to do so), you can join the queue for an invitation here - there is a bit of a wait, but if I've done my shitty mental math right, it looks like the wait is approx 10 ish days right now for an invite. (if you're unfamiliar with the system, you pop your email into the box on that invite request page, and when you make it to the top of the queue, ao3 will email you a direct link to register for a new account!! according to that page they are sending ~6k invites every 12 hours or so right now)
again - I am so fucking sorry about this. please know I take absolutely zero joy from limiting who can read my fics, and hopefully at some point I feel comfortable opening them back up to everybody again - but for right now, I'm going this way to try to protect some of my work from future scrapes in the small way that I can, and to protect what limited works were not stolen in this scrape as much as possible.
I really appreciate you reading syat & coming by to send this sweet comment so so much - it means the world to hear you liked the fic (and wanted to reread it, ahh!!) <3 I hope I'm able to to keep sharing it with y'all. you can always shoot me a DM if you wanna chat off anon - or pop by via inbox whenever :,) I'm so sorry about this, and ily <3
#asks#freya speaks#fic: seeyouatthree#saved sweets#anon truly I'm so sorry honey#really prayin u have an account already and were just logged out#but ilysm <3 ty ty ty for reading

Sign Up Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7CvjqiDZ8-kN47qpP4jump3SR3kM0UjyRn3KkGdTwGTbRKQ/viewform
Sign Ups are from July 14th - July 20th. (5PM EST)
Welcome to the Thiam Big Bang 2024!
Wow! It’s that time of year already! Back by popular demand, it’s time for another Big Bang Event! This time, we’ve got a little surprise thanks to the votes for this year’s theme!
How does this work?
Based on the sheer amount of votes by our Thiam fans, we’ve decided to try something different this year! Not only are we offering the Normal Big Bang track this year, but we are also offering one with a central theme: Six Seasons and a Movie!
There will be two tracks for this Big Bang: creating a brand new work in any genre and with any plot you desire, or recreating an episode/plot line etc. from the show to make it more Thiam-centric, or to include Thiam in it at all (shakes fist at everyone involved with the Teen Wolf Movie who forgot Theo existed).
Writers will create an original Theo/Liam work. In a few weeks, writers will submit summaries of their work. During this time, there will be a claiming phase for artists to claim a writer’s summary that they want to create art for. You will then work with your writer/artist/beta to create amazing works for the Big Bang!
What are the rules?
This year, we are bringing back the minimum word limit of 10k. There is no maximum word count. We also ask that you produce a finished work by the final deadline.
Artists, create to your heart’s content using whatever medium you prefer. These include: music playlists, video edits, aesthetics, moodboards, drawings, etc.
The floor is yours to write what you want! Take your prompt and run wild with it!
Your entry for the Big Bang cannot be a work that is already published in any form. This must be a creation from scratch!
Betas:
Betas are not required for this event! If you have your own beta, great! Betas usually help with grammar and spelling but can also help with ideas, plot holes, etc. Beta readers, please sign up using the form provided!
You will not receive the prompt bank in this case.
We will have an option for artists/authors to do a second pairing and if needed advertise for pinch hitters. We will do everything we can to ensure that every prompt has both a writer and an artist so everyone can participate in this event.
Checkpoints:
We will send out reminder emails during each checkpoint. These will be gentle reminders, used for encouragement and motivation, to check in with you in your writing process. The first mandatory checkpoint will be August 31st, where we will ask for confirmation that writer and artist partners have been in contact with each other. The second mandatory checkpoint will be September 23rd, where writers and artists must confirm you are on track for finishing your work by the posting week.
What if I need to drop out?
We know real life can get in the way sometimes. If you need to drop out, can’t meet the deadline, etc. please contact the mods ASAP (preferably no later than the second mandatory check-in on September 23 so we can find a pinch hitter).
When posting on tumblr, please use #thiambigbang24 and #officialthiamlibrary in your first five tags so we can find it and reblog your works.
Schedule:
Sign-Ups Open: July 14
Sign-Ups Close: July 20
Writer Summaries: August 3
Partnership Emails Sent: August 7
First Mandatory Writer and Artist Check-In: August 31
Second Mandatory Writer and Artist Check-In: September 23

Stony Loves Steve 2024
We’re back again to celebrate Steve’s birthday, July 4th, with Stony Loves Steve! This is a Steve/Tony gift exchange where participants create and receive Steve-centric fanworks.
There are plenty of wonderful creations based on Tony, and that’s awesome!. For this exchange, however, we’re choosing to focus on Steve. We hope to see more works exploring him and his side of his relationship with Tony across the Marvel multiverse, whether that relationship is slash or friendship.
Sign-ups will open on April 14th and run until April 28th.
As with last year we are allowing podfic, so don’t forget to check out our updated FAQ for rules and requirements!

If anyone here reads my fanfics, an fyi that it's all getting locked down so only registered users can view it.
With the latest news of AI scrapping bots scrapping ao3's data, I'm done. Sorry for the unregistered users out there – but now is the time to get an account. If you want an ao3 invite— DM me, I've got quite a few left to give. Or you can request ao3 and queue up for it too!

Hello, everyone! for fear of the scaping on Ao3 to feed ai sludge, i've decided to put my fics for registered users only. This is probably a long shot, but if anyone who reads this has been reading In Between Clear Blue Water or In A Little While and wasn’t a registered user, i’m sorry to do this and leave people out, but i’m sure all of us understand not wanting your hard work and passion projects stolen to create cheap soulless content. i'll leave here the invitation request link to get an Ao3 account (something i couldn't recommend enough you do if you're a reader and want to follow and bookmark fics too), and hope that if you’re one of those people who left guest kudos and comments, and you still want to, you can follow along as i post new chapters and fics <3
#ao3#ao3 fanfic#fanfic#fanfiction#pacific rim#futurama#freela#honestly so sorry to do this#i'm really only doing it for fear of my fics being feed into ai but i don't like that people who might have liked my stuff -#even in passing - arent going to see them anymore#it's a bummer all around

Hi, I hope I’m asking the right person. If you once had a live journal where you wrote a fantastic drarry fic called Fathers Who Could Do With A Spot of Sinning, I’m wondering if a downloadable copy (pdf preferably but word doc or sth would be great) exists.
Hello, yes, right person. It’s absolutely available to download from Ao3. I’ve had to go private there because of AI scraping but all my stories are open to all registered Ao3 members. It’s easy to apply at this link and their volunteers are great and work fast: https://archiveofourown.org/invite_requests
