One of my biggest pet peeves is the assumption that something has to be sad for it to be tragic.

I've always been a big believer of the 'Apollo has an awful love life'/'Apollo is plain unlucky with love' line of thinking but it does bother me that the general reasoning for that statement is given to the concept of 'Apollo is somehow undesireable and thus rejected' (Cassandra/Daphne/Marpessa) or 'his lovers die young and thus their love is unfulfilled' (Cyparissus/Hyacinthus/Coronis). I personally think that's a very unfortunate way of looking at things - not only because it neglects the many perfectly cordial entanglements and affairs Apollo has had, both mortal and divine - but because it presents a very shallow interpretation of the concepts of love and loss and how loss affects people.

Apollo can still grieve lovers that have a long, healthy life. The inherent tragedy of an immortal who knows his lovers and children will die and cannot stop it does not stop being tragic simply because those lovers and children live long, fulfilled lives. The inherent tragedy of loss does not stop being tragic simply because someone knows better than to mourn something that was always going to end.

What is tragic is not that Apollo loves and loses but that loss itself follows him. Apollo does not love with the distance of an immortal, he does not have affairs and then leaves never to listen to their prayers again. He does not have offspring and then abandon them to their trials only to appear when it is time to lead them to their destinies. He raises his young, he protects the mothers of his children, he blesses the households that have his favour and multiplies their flocks that they may never go hungry. He educates his sons, he adorns his daughters and even in wrath he is quick to come to his senses and regret the punishments he doles out.

Apollo loves. And like mortals, there will always be some part of him that wishes to protect the objects of his affections. Apollo, however, is also an emissary of Fate. He knows that the fate of all mortal things is death. He knows that to love a mortal is to accept that eventually he will have to bury them. There is no illusion of forever, there is no fantasy where he fights against the nature of living things and shields his beloveds from death. Apollo loves and because of that love, he also accepts.

And that, while beautiful, is also tragic.

So I was in Greece and found out it was a lie.

All those episodes of Xena Warrior Princess and Iolaus: The Legendary Journeys.

They.

Were.

LIES.

Did you know that throughout ALL of Greece for all the centuries leading up to when the Romans invaded, all of the many myriad city states and colonies-- west to Sicily and south to Africa and north east to Asia Minor, all of them: no temples to Ares.

None.

All the other gods? Yup. Hell, they even imported Isis from Egypt so she has shrines on Delos. DELOS. The holy birthplace of Apollo. Shrines to the Egyptian goddess Isis.

But Ares? No.

And in both shows that was the WHOLE plot. It was always about Ares and his temples and shrines. Even the Young Hercules spin off with Ryan Gosling as Hercules and the actor who would later be Fili the Dwarf playing young Iolaus, Ares was always in his temples and always trying to protect his temples from being smashed up or destroyed. And I visit Greece for the first time in my life and go to all these amazing sites-- Delos, the canal at Corinth, Olympia, Delphi, Athens, Ithaca, Patmos, Tinos etc. and . . . no Ares. No temple to Ares.

And when you visit Greece and they take you to the ruins of the temples of Athena and Zeus and Apollo etc. you learn that people built temples for the gods to use as like vacation homes when they didn't want to stay on Olympus.

All those city states. All those colonies and during the entire Hellenic period no one built one single temple to Ares according to the docent at the Delphi museum.

Apparently no one wanted Ares as a neighbor.

(GFL/GoV: NIKKE) Anti-Rain and Squad Counters fighting over their Commanders

OH YES, CROSSOVER BANTER, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

Also, the Commander won't be S/O since that'd be kinda hard to implement in this kind of scenario. Unless it was a harem, which I absolutely refuse. We have the serious ones, the catty ones, and the glue eaters for this team matchup.

Squad Counters entered the room, noticing the squad from Griffin looking far more serious than them.

M4A1 examined the newcomers and nodded.

(M4A1) "So, you're the T-Dolls joining us for this operation?"

(Anis) "The hell is a T-Doll? We're Nikkes."

(ST AR-15) "Hm. It doesn't really matter in the end. Just don't fall behind."

On the other hand, SOPMOD excitedly jumped in front of her two sisters-in-arms, extending her hands.

(M4 SOPMOD II) "New friends! Let's shake hands!~"

Rapi leaned back in slight surprise, unused to SOPMOD's straightforwardness.

Neon however extended her own hand and shook SOPMOD's excitedly.

(Neon) "Hi, I'm Neon! Do you like big guns?"

(M4 SOPMOD II) "What kind of question is that, of course I do!"

(Rapi) ahem. "Rapi, Leader of Squad Counters. This is Anis and Neon."

Anis simply shrugged while Neon waved a friendly hand towards the team.

M4A1 crossed her arms.

(M4A1) "M4A1, leader of the Anti-Rain Team. ST AR-15, and M4 SOPMOD II."

(Anis) "Wow, you guys just name yourselves after the guns? Talk about lifeless-"

STAR frowned at Anis.

(ST AR-15) "They're code names. And who are you calling lifeless?"

(Anis) "I don't know, you were just calling us Dolls a second ago-"

A loud throat clearing from the center of the room caught both team's attention, everyone directing their sights towards the two humans in the room.

(Griffin Commander) "We're being sent to take care of some Sangvis Dolls that are reportedly running around the area with some unidentified at their side. Which, I presume to be yours."

(Counters Commander) "Yeah, the fact that the Raptures haven't taken over your forces or anyone else's is a miracle, honestly..."

(Rapi) "Commander-"

Both of the humans turned to Rapi, before looking at each other in slight confusion.

(Griffin Commander) "Oh, right."

(Counters Commander) ahem "Yes, Rapi?"

Rapi seemed slightly flustered before that expression vanished.

(Rapi) "If we take care of the Raptures, is it possible for us to return home?"

(Counters Commander) "That's the hope, but I have no idea if anything we did was the cause of it...Kind of reminds me of those devil hunters-"

(M4 SOPMOD II) "What, you guys hunted devils?!"

(Neon) "Yeah, we had some super cool people help us out too! One of them could turn into a chainsaw and-"

(M4 SOPMOD II) "WHAAAAAT?! Commander, I wanna go to their place-"

(Griffin Commander) "Absolutely not."

(Anis) "Psh yeah, you softies wouldn't last a day in there."

(Rapi) "Anis."

(ST AR-15) "That is quite the boast, coming from someone who'd get eviscerated by the most basic doll in our world due to lack of armor."

(Anis) "Hey, I'm just stating the obvious. Our commander could beat the crap outta yours."

(M4A1) "Do NOT talk about our Commander that way."

(Griffin Commander) "M4, STAR. Knock it off, both of you."

(Counters Commander) "You too, Anis. We all need to work together."

(Neon) "Well, I mean, Nikkes do sound cooler than T-Doll."

(M4 SOPMOD II) "Nuh uh! We sound cooler!"

Both commanders sighed loudly as the girls of their squad started arguing.

(Griffins Commander) "Sorry, my teams are not usually like this."

(Counters Commander) "I...wish I could say the same. Well, except for Rapi."

(Neon) "OUR COMMANDER CAN SUPLEX YOURS!"

(M4 SOPMOD II) "OH YEAH? PROVE IT!"

Both Neon and SOPMOD turned to the Commander expectantly.

(Griffin Commander) "...Well, I'm glad to see in whatever world, our squads will always be the same it seems."

(Counters Commander) "Is...that a good thing?"

(ST AR-15) "Our Commander has led several echelons to victory against improbable odds."

(Anis) "Our Commander is the improbable odds!"

M4A1 and Rapi looked at their commanders before glaring at each other silently.

(Griffin Commander) "I'm so glad M16 and RO aren't here today..."

(Counters Commander) "They would've made it worse, I assume?"

(Griffin Commander) "I'd say you'd have no idea, but I think you're the only one who could..."

Both Commanders stared at each other with a mixture of respect, and pity.

Only they knew the struggles of their daily lives, trying to herd an entire army of robotic cats around.

My Inazuma Eleven Roman Empire is that Kageyama Reiji was a boy who loved soccer but was abandoned by his father because he lost a match, and soon after he also lost his mother, and dragged all that trauma and desire for revenge to other innocent children who only wanted to play soccer for 40 years.

(Besides, if we do the math, Kageyema is supposed to be about 54 years old in the first series and the Raimon OB accident that he caused was 40 years ago, that gives us 14, so he was also a child like the main characters of the series, and was used by Garshield for his evil plans. A child who ended up hurting other children).

Really want to see the Inakuni kit in Victory Road, I feel it's really underrated (mostly because it only appears twice...)

Also a huge fan of the symbol (only found in SD), I think it's really neat.

Genuine question for y'all ina11 fans out there but what's the general consensus on the newer art style use for areori and now victory road? Do you like it? Do you hate it? I'm personally not the biggest fan of it but I'm curious as to what others think
