Leaky Archive Digital Fellowships

Deadline - 02.03.2023 :: Anywhere

The Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum and the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Research Group Networks, are inviting artists, activists, makers, experts, and collectives from the Global South to apply for a digital fellowship, as part of the Leaky Archive project. This project looks into how digital technology can be used to examine and analyze colonial archives and collections.

The four fellows selected will have three months (April-June 2023) to work on individual projects related to the collections of the museum. They will not be physically together, but will use online tools to stay in touch and document the process. Fellows will receive a grant of 2500€ and project funding for up to 500€.

Hello! Been a long time since I posted on tumblr, but I’m gonna try it out again :D

I’ll start with this painting of sad Sam and Frodo leaving the Shire that I made a couple weeks ago. I imagine Sam was trying to bring along as much of the Shire with him as him as they were walking further away from their home.

The first is a little sketch I did in Watercolor and Ink...

And the second was done in gouache...

I had a particularly hard time figuring out how to make the background "blurry"... but I really like how it came out.

In 1954, on this exact day, The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of The Lord of the Rings, was published for the first time by George Allen & Unwin, and the rest is history. I read it for the first time around the same time the movies were about to be released, in 2001, and I'll continue to revisit these beloved characters and wonderful places until the day that I die.
