So, this WIP has been in my queue...since January? It was an idea I've been wanting to draw for a while, but you know...turning feelings and lyrics into a visual is hard. Anyway, I got the art muse and the time gods to align, so here's some new Sterek art, finally! This is more on the spicier side, so you can see the full art piece, When You Touch Me, I Turn Red, on AO3. Drawn for @yearoftheotpevent's September prompt "flood" and @tw-anchor-down's Full Moon Round prompt "just wait for it." Heavily influenced by Dua Lipa and Angèle's song, "Fever." This song has such a cool feel, but also all the energy and lyrics scream Sterek, fire and feels. This is also little something for @nerdherderette for being such a kind and amazing friend. She's definitely the person who got me hooked on Teen Wolf and Sterek, but if it wasn't for her friendship, her generous words and overall support, I would not be on the creative and mental health journey I'm on right now. She's definitely someone who has made me a better person (and artist and writer!). Thanks for all the late night squeeing and encouragement, but also, thank you for all your fic recs and for your beautiful writing! I just wanted to thank you guys all together for answering my moan post. But you guys really helped me feel better. I'm getting older (much. much older D:) and I think I just get in a bit of a panic over being good enough to get anywhere professionally with my art. But, the fact you guys can see the beauty in my art really brings home that even if a few people love it I can love it too. It’s easy to be a podficcer; nothing special is needed and I’m happy to provide tips for simple podficcing! In fact I sorta ramble about my process here in this Answered Ask and include 3 basic tutorials.

To the Reylo community at large (writers, artists, readers, lurkers, everyone!): If you could pick one of your, preferably, complete (or at least a fair number of chapters in and being updated) fanfics that you would like to have a podfic made out of... which would it be?

I’d love to create a list of works where authors have given permission to podfic their fics, whether short or long, and to contribute to the new Reylo Podfic Collection!

But I’d love to use this tumblr thread as a.... thought exercises, I suppose, and permission, too, for people to podfic your work.

While I do do podficcing for Marvel... it just makes me want to do so much more Reylo stuff! There’s so few pieces out there compared to the bevy of Marvel stuff, but honestly, every time there’s a new (Reylo) podfic—it breathes new life back into the fic, the author, the ship, the fandom..... plus you personally feel awesome for the performance high and for bringing a smile to the writer’s face. That’s the best thing ever and I adore doing it, no matter how ‘simple’ the podfic may be.

This is a good exercise for me. Recently my lovely fandom friends/alpha and beta squad extraordinaire have said they feel that I’m being too hard on myself wrt my writing. They had gentle words with me, but were worried that I was being too critical about my fics. I do think that my writing this year has improved immensely, and that as I get better, I become more aware of my weaknesses. THE IRONING! So this is probably a good exercise, to remind me of what I like in fics, and how I manage to work that into my own writing. Because I personally don’t like all of my fics. I know they’re all alright, in that none of them are bad fics. But there are some that I would write very differently now, and some that I think are very much only fair. Part of me wants to clear them out and start again, but in a way I think it’s nice to have a record of me learning to write! (Because I never wrote any fiction before I started fic, it was and is a learning process)

I am all for self-promotion and pride in one’s work, by the way, even if my Irishness makes me want to die inside every time I try to express it myself. We’re so often taught that self-regard is inappropriate or unpleasant or vain. I do think it’s important to challenge that, and to be aware of our own worth.

Sorry this got a bit long, so I’ll stick a cut in here - behold, my own favourite five fics that I wrote in 2020! All Drarry.

Modern Love (62k, E). Look I love this fic. I planned it for a long time. It was a joy to write. It deals with a favourite trope of mine (Draco in the Muggle world). It came out just as I wanted it to when I was dreaming it up, but it also became better than I was hoping it would? I don’t know if that makes sense, but it felt fresh as it unfolded in the writing, but also right in terms of what I had planned for it. I think I would love this fic even if I hadn’t written it. I think it’s clean and nicely-paced and interesting (is that ok to say? fuck it, I’m saying it). And I think my dialogue works, and that my OCs are well-written, and I love the love story between Draco and Harry. This is the fic I’m proudest of, definitely.

Between the Power Lines (3.2k, M). I wanted MOOD from this one - MOOD MOOD AND MORE MOOD. And I love the one I got. I’m obsessed with American road trips and I wanted to create something evocative and filmic and very visual (especially considering it was a gift for an incredible artist). And I wanted it to be tight and a bit sexy and romantic, but poignant. And I think I got that with it.I also really love this one and sometimes reread it as I can do so without cringing which is a really good sign.

Through the Window, Clear Skies (1.4k, M). This is the fic I see as my turning point stylistically. All through 2019 I was learning to write, and wallowing in tropey stuff, and really exploring HOW to come up with stories, and how to have enough self-discipline to write them down, and how I could work most efficiently and pleasurably. But I think I realised that even though I liked the fics I wrote last year, they didn’t feel very me? Maybe I was trying to write like other fic writers I admired? But I felt like I needed to try to make a shift and work on my style a bit. And this is the first fic I tried that with. I wanted it to be very simple and easy to read, and still pretty but not too full of description, and to be quite visual, and to have an emotional resonance without feeling overblown (nothing wrong with overblown, as a reader I fucking love it, give me all the big feels! But it didn’t feel right for my own narrative voice, and I had started dabbling in original fic and my style felt very different to my fics - and I thought, hmmm. Why not try to hone this a whole?). Anyway this was the result and I still think it’s exactly what I wanted it to be.

If It Takes All Night (10.8k, M). I’m putting this one in as I think it’s so cute, and lovely example of managing to write something light and frothy and easy to read, without feeling like I needed to make it massively resonant. It was very freeing to not take myself too seriously, and just write this cute little story about the two eejits getting accidentally bonded by a curse that really wants them to bone. Also I wrote it while fucked UP with covid so that was a triumph all by itself really.

Our Little Life (7.2k, M). I only just finished this one but I can already tell it’s going to be a favourite. It’s a fantastic trope, the love-through-all-the-ages thing, and I am very happy with my take on it. I absolutely love the dream sequences - I really got to indulge my love of historical romance and basically just imagine them into any scenario I wanted, really. I also stuck them in a naomhóg and lovely geansaís so if that’s not self-indulgent I don’t know what is! I also think this one is really romantic and that’s what I tend to go for, to be honest.
