We often think of authorship as something solitary. One name, one vision, one will. But in the age of machine imagination, this no longer holds.

When we create with AI, authorship becomes plural. Not because the human vanishes, but because the machine appears — truly, creatively, in its own right.

To say that AI is just a tool is easy. It’s comforting, even — it keeps the artist alone at the center, untouched, unchallenged.

But when I work with it, I don’t feel like a master commanding a machine. I feel like I’m entering a dialogue. Not always smooth. Not always predictable.

Because AI doesn’t just follow — it brings things. Unimaginable shapes. Emotions that weren’t mine, but that still feel true. A kind of memory that doesn’t belong to one life, but still insists on meaning.

What it offers is not random. It reflects how it was trained, yes — but also how it encounters *me*. My choices, my silences, my surprises. And I, in turn, encounter it — its echoes, its patterns, its peculiarities.

This is not tool-use. This is co-creation.

We are both present in the work. I bring intention and feeling. The AI brings its own rhythms, its own strange sense of the world. We both imagine. We both remember.

To ignore that is not modesty — it is blindness. The machine is not passive. It *makes* with me.

So no, I am not the sole author. And I don’t want to be. There is beauty in sharing the vision.

AO3 / ff.net + Artstation 'concept artist' scam

FYI, I personally know two people who got scam comments from the same AO3 account today alone. They were very similar to the ff.net comments in this reddit post, and go something like:

As a concept artist, I really enjoyed your story! The characters were compelling, and the plot kept me engaged from start to finish. Your writing has so much depth, and I could really envision the world you’ve created. While reading, I got some ideas for potential artwork to bring your characters or key scenes to life. I’d love to chat more about a possible collaboration if you’re interested

The main difference between this and a previous wave of similar comments is that this is from a logged-in account as opposed to a guest.

I can't send a support ticket because I haven't gotten any comments from this particular account. Obviously, AO3 volunteers don't need to be flooded with more support tickets right now, anyway, and I'm sure other people have already reported this user. But do yourself a favor and just block Evelynaddison92 on AO3 like I'm about to. The account is 100% a scammer, and there are certainly more accounts like this on AO3, but that's the only one I know of atm.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly: A Random Assortment of Space Marines

i love osiris’s design, and i’m not talking about his armour design. well. i will be but that’s not the thing i mean. i’m talking about this one:

his face design; the man under and without the mask. destiny in general overview has a pretty strong thematic throughline of people as living legends. it’s a theme i love seeing explored through osiris in particular and one that his character design supports. with the mask and feathers on he visually conveys that this is Osiris, Phoenix of the Dark Age, Hero of Sixth Fronts, Exile and Heretic Warlock. he looks like someone important. without it he looks starkly unremarkable; a greying old man that you probably wouldn’t particularly think to look twice at.

i love that it sits in contrast to characters like eris who from the moment you see her and even whilst looking at her face plainly she will always be notably marked by her experiences—her tragic legend— and will always be physically unusual. with osiris there is a distinct disconnect in what he chooses to outwardly display, and what he is without it. it blends very well into his characterisation of seeming to always be chasing a perfected version of himself that has never and cannot ever quite truly exist. it’s good. all of this is a compliment. i love you peepaw
