you won't come back. i know, that's fine. inhale, exhale, breathe in the secondhand smoke that hasn't yet been drowned out by the rain.

if it's not one thing then it's another. find any excuse you have to use. i can watch you say it. you are valid to hate standing by me. i can still breathe in what's choking me. i am fine.

weary smile. heavy heart, but i click open the camera and pose with my hand around your shoulders anyway. my hand. why not my arm? my whole heart isn't in this. yes, i said pose.

heavy heart, but i flick open the umbrella's metal joints anyway with a practiced, casual ease. one moment folded, lips of the steel pressed into thin lines that squash the full height of the umbrella. the next, unfurled like an penned owl's wings as it takes off into misty mountains.

i wish I could follow it, but i'm resigned to the ground.

my sneakers are soaked through with damp and my socks chilled with muddy water. i wring the wet locks back from my shivering face. odd i hadn't noticed until the water got into my furiously blinking eyes, but i'm enraged, silently enraged in the water.

i know it's futile, i don't deserve such a thing, but i have so much wrath at this sudden downpour. today, why must there be water?

irrational. unseemly. my first reaction is shame, not shaking. i know to be embarrassed at weakness. all these times i have idolised the strong. i wanted to hide under my umbrella but mary poppins doesn't hide, so why should I? neither shall i.

you're not coming back to me. you never will. not the same you. i speak heavy things in an attempt to crush my feet with the weighted slam of cinder blocks. i run myself over mercilessly with a land rover. i buy a gun and shoot it, unloading pellets into my chest. i tell myself not to move but broken and bruised there my feet go again.

it's not like i don't know how this will end up. the bones of my feet visible. the shoulders of my overcoat drenched. my hair flinging water into my face with every slight movement.

it's not like i don't know how this will happen. how everything will play out. i know, darling, i know. but a hit-and-run couldn't stop me, the ashes and cinders will infuriate but cannot induce defeat in me, the gun will shoot only where bullets have already hit.

I: have always been walking around with carefully concealed bullet holes in my chest.

my heart keeps beating, traitorous thing. let me steal a kiss from you, at least, a ring maybe, a line of verse. some keepsake, any keepsake -

storage. if i could be packed away in bubble wrap and shipped overseas on a conveyor belt, would anyone come to pick me up? claim me because i look interesting? i'd be disposed of as a possible danger, a tick-tock time bomb.

you won't come back. in this story, the prince loses the glass slipper when he gets drunk and he never thinks of cinders again except when he's hiccuping. she heaves a sigh and gets back to work scrubbing the stairs. never expected anything else. at least she's full tonight.

Anyway, Cinder is the baby of the family. Last hatched and last born, and its sorta ironic that he goes as male since Ash's oldest and youngest are boys and the middle children are girls. Sweet sweet irony /jk

It would be so funny if Ash is just like Cinder’s uncle or something and while he learn about Cinder’s backstory he says something along the lines of, “Real quiet guy. Never heard him say a word in my life.” You have no idea how much joy that would bring me.

I’ve only seen the first two episodes of dragons rising season two and so far Lloyd has collapsed from exhaustion, had panic attacks, and experienced a dissociative episode. Even the show knows this boy is traumatized beyond belief at this point.

Watched the first episode of Ninjago DR S2

Hi there, as an epileptic person I’m so happy to see your changes to Shadowsight’s character (I was SO disappointed that they removed his seizures!) and that you have a whole section dedicated to it in the medicines overview! It means so much to me to have such genuine representation. The only little note I have is that the technical term for a grand-mal seizure is “tonic-clonic,” not clonic-tonic! Other than that you have some really great and well-researched information ^^

Oh shoot, I didn't realize the order was important! Can you tell me why it should be tonic-clonic and spelling it as clonic-tonic should be avoided, so I can share?

With Shadowsight and Sorreltail, I did my research by looking at educational not-for-profits and trying to make sure to listen to firsthand accounts of what it's like to have it, so that the portrayal was more based in life than medical journals. I'm pretty sure I have an old post floating around somewhere with a bunch of sources and links, in addition to the herb guide you saw.

It really is such a shame they did that with Shadowsight specifically :/ you're not the first to pass through thanking me for putting his epilepsy back. I was recently revisiting the earlier books of TBC to answer an ask (ballooned into an essay) and, man, seeing all the setup, with what I know now, utterly wasted is just devastating.

What I mean is, in Book 1, they're describing his auras from his perspective and how there IS a difference between his seizure-visions and his Ashfur-visions. They're establishing that he DID always have epilepsy, it's just ASHFUR that's new. That was a MAJOR hint that something was wrong! The epilepsy was always part of him, but the possessions weren't!

But then, in Book 4, the team unceremoniously decides that no, it was Ashfur all along. Even the seizures. GoodBYE epilepsy! It was literally just a magic spirit.

Though the "seizures give visions" trope is a bit problematic on its own (like "Blind Seer"), I feel like it's even worse to set up representation, and then just yank it away midway through an arc. Like they couldn't just have him lose the visions but keep the seizures.

Frustrating. But, well, this is MY kitchen and I get to decide the disability rep.
