I'll be posting some of these illustrations I did for a cool short story project about the power of seeking value outside of material desires. And it has an Asian feels, which was a nice contrast to so much of the Greek design works. 🤘😁🤘

“If I have learned anything since this war began, it is that souls are messy, imperfect things. Even the most beautiful of them have the capacity to be cruel.” ⚔️✨⚔️ Girls of Fate and Fury is the final instalment of the Asian-inspired LGBTQIA+ mythological fantasy Girls of Paper and Fire trilogy by Natasha Ngan! This book picks up right after Girls of Storm and Shadow ends, and I absolutely loved falling back into this world with Lei and Wren. I can’t believe I waited so long to pick this up, as it was stunning and a beautiful end to the trilogy. This novel was action packed and I honestly could not put it down - I had to see what was going to happen next. The conclusion of things hinted at and built towards in the first two books finally came to light and once it did, I was hooked. The character interactions stayed true to the rest of the trilogy for the most part, and I appreciated the consistency. It was interesting to watch old and new characters interact, and I loved that despite some of the horror this book contained, there was so much warmth and humour throughout it too. Once again, because I did wait so long in picking this up, the addition of the maps and the castes were incredibly helpful. It was fun being able to read the main storyline and use the map to actually visualise where the characters were. Since it is the last in the trilogy, I can’t say too much more, but I adored this series and would highly recommend it! ⚔️✨⚔️ Girls of Fate and Fury is book 87 for 2022. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2022 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #girlsoffateandfury #natashangan #girlsofpaperandfiretrilogy #asianmythology #asianfantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/CkVPITsL6uN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings, edited by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman . If you haven’t heard of this book yet, it’s an anthology of 15 retellings of Asian myths and legends, and some amazing writers have worked on this! (Swipe to see the 15 authors of this book) Whose story are you most excited to read? I haven’t read them yet, but based on the authors I’m looking forward to reading Roshani Choksi’s ‘Forbidden Fruit’, because I haven’t read any of her work yet and I’ve heard such good things! . . . #athousandbeginningsandendings #harper360 #ellenoh #elsiechapman #asianmythology #asianmyths #asianlegends #reneeahdieh #roshanichokshi #melissadelacruz #juliekagawa #yafantasy #youngadultbooks #bookphotography #bookphoto #bookworm #shortstories

Inktober day 25 A kumiho (gumiho) (Korean pronunciation: [kumiho]; Hangul: 구미호; Hanja: 九尾狐, literally "nine-tailed fox") is a creature that appears in the tales and legendsof Korea. Deriving from ancient Chinese myths and folklores, a fox that lives a thousand years turns into a kumiho, like its Japanese and Chinese counterparts. It can freely transform, among other things, into a beautiful woman often set out to seduce boys, and eat their liver or heart (depending on the legend). There are numerous tales in which the kumiho appears, several of which can be found in the encyclopedic Compendium of Korean Oral Literature ... #kumiho #ninetails #kyuubi #chinesemythology #koreanmythology #mytology #mythologicalcreature #mythical #myth #asianmythology #asiancreature #ink #inktober #inktober2018 #ink #watercolor #fox #japanesemythology #japanesecreature https://www.instagram.com/p/BpXTMW2ljS6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xa504f3ltbrm

Quite possibly pertinent to my upcoming Mythwoven series. . The Sessho-seki was found broken. True story. . After nearly 1,000 years, Tamamo-no-Mae, nine-tailed fox demoness(?) is presumably once again free. . #writerinspiration #writerlife #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #mythology #legend #folklore #asianmythology #asiangirl https://www.instagram.com/p/Cays8IOugz8/?utm_medium=tumblr

The tanjung flower or bakul in Sanskrit is a common sight on the sidewalks of Penang. Found in South and Southeast Asia, it's known by many names in the languages of the region, but the common English names are medlar or bullet wood. According to #MalayFolklore, a heavenly princess (puteri kayangan) couldn't find her clothes that would allow her to fly back home. Stranded on earth, the tears she'd cry turned into the bunga tanjung. An old lady who was taking care of her on earth would string the flowers together and sell them. The flowers, fruit, bark, seeds and timber of the tree have all been used by humans ever since #asianfolklore #asianmythology #southeastasianfolklore https://www.instagram.com/p/CN2BPm9D8ii/?igshid=cfh25did2uff

Another #culture and a different #mythos than what I know is the only way to explain this statue in #hawparvilla in #Singapore. There was no plaque or description as to what the story is, guessing you need a familiarity with the myths and legends of the region. #myth #legend #asian #asianmythology (at Haw Par Villa) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxeHWubhKmH/?igshid=16m6u3fcvivc
