RSU: asoue netflix
there are, in fact, things i do like or appreciate about the show!!
-i genuinely do love seeing babybea!! actually having a scene where she interacts with lemony is really great and it's such a precious scene too. her lil beret is fucking adorable. -the henchperson's coroner van in reptile room saying CORNER -olaf smashing the lights in the hallway in hostile hospital is truly scary and i always liked that part -"it's been eight minutes, do you want some tea?" is incredibly iconic. something i could see book!jacques saying as well -I'D GIVE ANYTHING TO SIT AND TALK WITH HIM AGAIN -honestly lemony's physical placement in the scenes was overall done really really well. lemony is an undeniable part of this world and this story and we get to see him there -also his costumes were stellar -i really do like seeing the denouements, like physically seeing them move around and in and out of scenes was really, really cool, like visually seeing the hotel and the three of them pretending to be two people honestly was incredible. in my initial notes about season 3 i said tv was made to show the three chapters that happen simultaneously and i stand by it bc it was neat to finally see!!!!!!!!!! -the green hotel has grown on me, too. i must say. same with the denouements having mustaches. -you know, show!poe was hilarious, honestly. when i think of mr. poe, i do in fact think of show!poe now, without fail. -"i speak all of them hella fluently" -oh the reveal of jacques' vfd tattoo in ersatz elevator was great -i think the song references in the dialogue were really fun!! 'i can hit a blackbird flying in the dead of night', 'oh, i'll tell you what i want', 'what's that thing james brown said?' -oh, that murakami quote, too!! -they really crafted an atmosphere on the show, with the sets and the clothes and the colors, and there were a lot of little background details to zoom in on or catch, and although maybe it wasn't an, expected atmosphere? it makes the show feel like a solid, contained world -violet's outfits were super cute!! -jacquelyn kicking the payphone off the hook and dialing with her heel -although it could've been handled differently, i liked the scenes of vfd in the background in the first season. i liked seeing more of gustav!!!!! -"look, here's a picture of us." "there's no one in that photograph." "we're locked inside the piano." -lucy punch as esme really was inspired -i love the pattern on the sugar bowl!! -not to keep bringing up reptile room but just the room itself. monty's house itself. it's always SO beautiful. like there's actually a lot of heart and love in his house and i just love the big glass windows so much -just seeing the books get the opportunity to be adapted as a whole -- even if, yeah, i don't consider it an overwhelmingly successful adaptation -- was still great and a real highlight of my life! the anticipation of it, watching the trailers (watching the mysterious completely unrelated trailer...........), getting my tattoo which was based off a season one eye design, the idea of the show brought back a lot of interest and love for the series!! and i know it brought a lot of new fans to the books afterwards, or previous fans back to the books!! and that's nice.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
@snarky-wallflower Thanks for the tag! This was a lot of fun :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
67 currently, but I have deleted a few old ones lol
2. What’s your total word count?
Now, when I tell you I went overboard on this question, I went overboard. My private, unposted, solely-written-by-me fics' total word count is 227,868. My total word count for fics I've collaborated with @charismabee on is 477,549, and my total word count on AO3 is 389,530. However, quite a few of my AO3 fics are collabs with Red, so if you take away everything like Wilting Flowers and Owl House but Kindergarten, you're left with 225,235 words written solely by me. So, if you total up 225,235 + 227,868 + 477,549, then you get a grand total of 930,652 words! Then, of course, there's the whole matter of my old fics on regular Word and not Docs, which would probably add up to at least another 50,000 total considering we're talking about my ASOUE and DT17 phases, as well as all of the private Viva Pinata and miscellaneous musical stuff lurking in there, and we've got that weird writing app on my tablet that I used a lot a couple of years ago whenever my phone got confiscated, but I cannot be bothered to search through all of that right now. So, it mostly rounds up to around 1,000,000 words. Fanfiction may or may not be taking over my life. (Gosh I love maths <3)
3. What fandoms?
I've written mostly for the Kindergarten 1 and 2 fandom, my total fics on AO3 for it totaling 38. However, I have written a heck of a lot of OMORI as well, and dabble in the Owl House, DHMIS, a few webseries on YT as well as the Hatchetverse sometimes, too!
4. Top 5 fics by kudos
1. World's Okayest Uncle at 799. My latest WIP, written for the Hatchetfield Universe and based around the concept of Paul Matthews becoming the accidental uncle of every kid in town. Each chapter focuses on a different child (the three so far about Alice, Richie and Pete respectively), and once all of them have been sufficiently adopted, I've been considering adding some slice-of-life stuff, exploring the changed character dynamics, and looking into parts of canon that would change in the AU as well. 2. Hollow at 455, a Hunter-centric one-shot for the Owl House set immediately after season 2 finished. It was written in the post King's Tide craze of awesome Human Realm content, so it got quite a lot of hits at the time. It focuses on Hunter dealing with the aftermath of Belos seemingly having died, and himself having being thrown into a completely new, unfamiliar world as an unfamiliar God took over his own :) 3. Flapjacks at 279, another Hunter-centric piece because TOH fans can't get enough of him lol (I am very much one of those fans). I began writing it back when Thanks to Them was first released, then got the motivation to finish it after I saw Watching and Dreaming. It focuses on Hunter returning to the Human Realm after the Collector's defeat, as well as Camila's thoughts on being a parent of who knows' how many kids at this point. Hunter finally gets the chance to mourn, and finds out what a flapjack actually is. 4. Gravesfield Historical Society, at 275. In which it's only natural that the Boiling Isles' leading Human Expert decides to do some research, and Gus does his very best to ignore the images plaguing him from looking into Belos' mind. Vee looks for some closure, Hunter is very protective over his little siblings, and Gus just wants to have a fun day at the museum. Things... Don't go to plan. 5. Fading, at 215. Yet another TOH work (I was around when the fandom was active as heck), one of the shortest pieces I've ever written at only 722 words. It's from Flapjack's POV during that scene in Thanks for Them. You know the one. I made lots of people cry, and sacrificed the birb.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Of course!! I thoroughly appreciate every comment I receive; they really make my day. Being part of an active fandom with the Uncle Paul AU has sort of taken me by storm so my inbox is pretty clogged at the moment, but I promise that I have read and smiled over and will reply to the comments all of my lovely readers have left behind! It means so much that someone's not only taken the time to read what I've written, but that they liked it enough to leave a comment behind. Even just keysmashes or "<33"s are really lovely to see, so thank you to the wonderful commentors out there! You guys are awesome :D
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ooh, now this is a tough one! Pretty much 95% of what I write is angst, with a good 70% being Hurt No Comfort. Still, I think the angstiest ending I've ever written would have to be that of either "Enough", in which 13 y/o me decided it was a good idea to follow the perspective of kindergartener Theodore Huxley as his brother pushed him to his death, or "Wilted", in which 13 y/o me decided it was a good idea to follow the perspective of suicidal kindergartener Lily as she gave up on finding the one person who cared about her and committed suicide as a result of being bullied. Wilted should probably win out considering the implications of what would happen to Billy as a result, and bc the ending subsequently led to Nugget's death too, but Ted's train of thought in Enough is so gosh darn sad.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Definitely "McDonald's". That's the fluffiest thing I've ever written, no doubt about it. Not a smidgen of angst, just a bunch of kids with colourful eyes and pointy ears walking into a fast food restaurant and discovering what chicken nuggets are. It literally ends with the promise of more cute adventures to come, so I'd say this one's a no-brainer loll
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've only ever received hate once, on a little Gravity Falls AU I made entitled "Puppet Strings and Stage Curtains". I got some pretty nasty criticism on it and, as a kid who was still very anxious about posting stuff online, it really impacted me at the time. I'm still a little nervous even now to open up my inbox because I think I might have gotten another comment like that shfjdhhgkjh. I wound up abandoning the fic because my motivation was completely destroyed, and I couldn't even look at the thing without feeling ashamed. However, I haven't received any hate since, which is great! There's just no reason for it, really; if you like something, leaving a comment is wonderful, and it makes the author happy! If you don't, just don't read the fic. Leaving a hurtful comment isn't going to make anyone happy, and can be really damaging to writers. Shoutout to @weedkillercentral, who, without fail, leaves the bizzarest comments known to man on almost every work I post.
9. Do you write smut?
Nope! I am a ✨minor✨ (@snarky-wallflower dw I too am a nerdy prude, sex jokes are Ew). Still, I do enjoy writing romance from time to time! Some ships are straight-up hard not to enjoy reading/writing for :))
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Funny story, actually. I used to have Wattpad and, as much as I hated using it, a friend of mine liked the site so I used it to support her. I wound up posting some of my own stuff on there at one point. I will never be able to get over the fact that when you searched up my username online, the images used to show a picture of Sharkbomb Glomgold. How do I know this? Because small me got bored and looked up my username, and accidentally found a mirror site to Wattpad with some of my stuff on. It credited my username and everything, but I panicked about it because as far as I was aware, I had no control over whether I could take it down or what else could be put on it. So, I deleted everything on my account, and just like that, the fics on the mirror site vanished. So no, I've never had anything outright stolen-- at least, I hope I haven't-- but that was a Not Fun experience for little me a few years ago
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, I'm not famous enough for that lol. I did have an offer for someone to make a podfic of smth I wrote a few years ago, but they never got around to it. Still, if anyone ever wants to translate one of my fics, I'd love it if you did! Please just let me know and acknowledge me as the OG author; having a work translated sounds awesome.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Many thanks yet again to the amazing @charismabee, my dear co-author and the Kel shirt to my Maverick cosplay wig. The amount of hours I've spent writing with her is actually insane, as well as the times we've just messaged brainstorming AUs or having far too strong feelings about the show Elena of Avalor. We've done joint Whumptobers and Febuwhumps, fics that are combinations of the nichest stories and characters, a lot of redemption arcs for 5-year-olds... If you like my stuff, I thoroughly encourage you to go give her work a read at TheFearIsRed on AO3! :D
If anyone else ever wants to try collaborating on something, I think I'd be willing to give it a try! There are loads of talented authors on here, and co-writing is a lot of fun <3
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Hmm... Well, Paulkins is an obvious one (remember that one post about "hatchetfield fans when normal man and his barista crush show up for 5 seconds"? yeah that's me). They have a level of mutual trust and understanding that's just really nice to explore, they both have issues galore but will support each other no matter what, half infected Paul content is golden and as an avid Uncle Paul truther, Emma finding out about his many children is just too funny a concept to me. They act like teenagers when they see each other, they're both down bad, she knows he doesn't like the Christmas advert jingles, he thinks she's funny,,, they're so <3
Another strong contender is Pearla (Penny x Carla), from the K2 fandom. @goldmoth82 was the one who got me into writing about them with their absolutely incredible stuff (art, fics, you name it!). They're just a traumatised android and a thieving arsonist, what more could you want?
Gold rush (Kel x Mikhael) is another of my favourites though, mostly because it's so funny. Mikhael has declared them rivals, and Kel could not care less. Mikhael challenges him to races, and Kel beats him easily. Mikhael insults him often, but Kel doesn't retaliate. Mikhael wants to be independent and special, to stand out from everyone else. Kel wants to be appreciated as more than just Hero's brother, to be liked and acknowledged as himself. Mikhael would vehemently deny his feelings until Daphne and Bowen tied them up together and forced him to confess. Rivals are just lovers in disguise, everyone. One-sided gold rush is even funnier, because they're technically one-sided rivals. Kel was Mikhael's homosexual awakening. Mikhael looks so dumb and flamboyant because he's trying to impress him. Mikhael claims he hates him and that his bright red face is from anger after Kel effortlessly beats him time and time again. I love them.
But I think out of everything, Wrightworth would have to take my top pic for favourite ship. Gay lawyers who would die for each other for the win.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
Ohh gosh. There are quite a few, but I'd probably say this year's Whumptober. My mental health went schwoop this October and I only got up to day 11 despite my plans. I still intend to finish the collab one with Red when I have time again (exams suck), and I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get around to completing it. At least there's always next year! :"]
16. What are your writing strengths?
Definitely characterisation. I have a lot of fun getting into characters' heads and making studies on them in different scenes or just overall, and have a lot of fun bouncing different personalities off of each other. Once I know a character, I know the character, and writing their POV is as simple as breathing lol. I'd also say that I'm pretty good at tension building and breaking, as well as Hurt No Comfort (you need some good old angst, I'm your gal).
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action scenes, for one, though I've been improving on them since I started the TOH Kindergarten AU! I'd also say that I struggle with slower-paced, filler sort of stuff. I might like to build up to an event, but chapters that don't have plot relevance just sort of stump me lol, even when they're necessary :)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I enjoy learning languages, and have been teaching myself Spanish for the past couple of years or so. However, writing them is a whole separate thing entirely. If I had a translator, I'd be all good! I just get a little worried when I write any language that isn't Spanish because google translate is unreliable as heck, so I typically tend to avoid it. Luckily, none of my fandoms really require it- but if that Franziska & Miles brainrot doesn't go away soon, I might be in a bit of a pickle trying to write German dialogue hshjhgfk
19. First fandom you wrote for?
A Series of Unfortunate Events (the Netflix show). It was the first fandom I got really, properly into, diving in headfirst at the age of about 12 and finding a lot of awesome content. The obsession I had with VFDBaudelaireFile13's Violet Snicket AU "Misery Loves Company" a few years ago was wild. My writing back then was very jolty, and I wrote in chapters that only lasted a few paragraphs with big, bold titles that often had at least two exclamation marks at the end. Still, ASOUE is one of my favourite shows to this day, and I don't regret a thing from my time binge-reading everything I could find for it (except that one lemons fic I accidentally came across when starved for content), nor any of the silly little unposted AUs I wrote on Word.
20. Top 3 fics I've ever written:
I puzzled over this question for ages, but found it impossible to choose just one! Ignore that I'm cheating a little here, and take three instead <3
1. An unposted collaborative work with @charismabee/TheFearIsRed that we called MPT. It was the first big fic I ever wrote, and it was probably what really got me into writing as a hobby. I got to spend time at random intervals writing about and whumping my favourite characters with someone I'm very close with, making up the plot as we went along. I remember coming up with the initial idea on a swingset, and spending hours colour-coding every segment of those 50,000 words based on each mention of a character as well as who wrote what. MPT is messy, and a tad repetitive in places, and while finished, I don't believe it's something I'll ever post. But it holds a special place in my heart, and it's a lot of fun looking back on my writing from a couple years ago compared to now 2. Not sure if this fully counts, but an untitled Omori WIP I've got going atm is definitely up there. It's Hero-centric with huge emphasis on his trauma, following the course of the year the events of the game occur in. I've had a blast writing his thoughts and time at college, and I'm geberally just really proud of it thus far. Hopefully, it'll be done by January in time for his birthday! :) 3. Now this one is a posted work– Magical Girls: Omori!, another collab with Red. We came up with the idea, binge-watched season one of Glitter Force on Netflix, and ran with the plot. We've planned out all of season 1 with ideas for season 2, incorporated a plethora of great characters, and been able to mess around with a fun fantasy high school full of our favourites. It's always wonderful to write, and I really like how it's been going!
Thank you again to @snarky-wallflower for the tag! You're amazing <3
As for people I know, I've tagged the vast majority of you already sjhkffg oops.
@charismabee @goldmoth82 @weltato @inprisonforsparkling hey there jpr the au mastermind, fanartist of the century, paul whump bestie and king of michie. you guys are some of my favourite writers out there, i'd love to see what you answer with for this (no pressure ofc!) <33

What I realized I missed now when I wrote an asoue fic for the first time in a while, is how much I missed writing sibling dynamics.
I love writing DCLA fics a lot, but NO ONE HAS SIBLINGS IN DCLA. And if they DO have siblings, they are either only mentioned and not shown, they have an age gap or they are sweet to each other all the time. Or their sibling is DEAD. This is why when two characters became stepsisters in a season we all LOST IT because FINALLY WE GET SOME REAL SIBLING MOMENTS. To write sibling dynamics in fics, you either have the super few in canon, create siblings for a character that we never see the home life of in canon, or straight up make next gens.
But in asoue it’s ALL about siblings. Siblings here, siblings there, always in threes. You thought they were twins, THEY’RE TRIPLETS, you thought there were two and here’s their little brother. The ones that don’t have siblings are VILLAINS /hj
Writing asoue fics then just lets you have all the sibling content you want. Heck, why not double the siblings? Have a 6 siblings AU and have twice as much sibling content!

Kyako Kurosawa
BASICS:
Nickname(s): Kee-Kee [from Toshikazu], Kya [from Kagayaku], sweet little serpent [from Hayate], petal [from Setsuna] Age: 17 Autumn Seasons Nameday: 27th Sun of Fourth Astral Moon Race: Mixed Race (Expressed as Hyur) Gender: Cis Female Orientation: Bisexual Profession: Familial Sacrifice
PHYSICAL ASPECTS:
Hair: Inky black Eyes: Serpentine green with slit pupils Skin: Extremely pale ivory Tattoos/Scars: As of her approaching 18th Autumn, Kyako bears no marks. The closer her sacrificial date approaches, the more black staining will appear on her limbs.
FAMILY:
Parents: Akito Kurosawa (Father - Deceased) / Rei Asou (Mother - Deceased) Siblings: Kyako is the youngest of five. Toshikazu is the eldest, currently preoccupied with the family business of creation and sale of sumi (ink sticks). While they have a sizeable base of employees, he handles the majority of managerial duties, including export. Setsuna is the first daughter, second of five, and manages the Kurosawa household as Toshikazu has not yet married. Their mother, Rei, died shortly before their father Akito, and Setsuna's arranged marriage fell through. With neither parent able to negotiate a new one, Setsuna's chosen to tend the home for her siblings. Hayate is the second son, third of five children. A trained samurai and fierce combatant, he is the most protective and possessive of Kyako. He passed up a lucrative position with the East Aldenard Trading Company because it would take him away from the family home. Kagayaku is the third son and fourth of five. A registered member of the Arcanists' Guild, he travels often to Limsa Lominsa but primarily works with Kugane bureaucracy (and the East Aldenard Trading Company) to handle import and export tax rates.
In-Laws & Others:
Cousins: Tomoko is the eldest of three (children of Masumi Kurosawa, Akito's sister) and a widow. She arranges visits to the Kurosawa house in Shirogane while keeping the ancestral home at the foot of Mount Rokkon intact and livable. Koji and Tokitada (twins) are Tomoko's younger brothers, reluctant to do anything that would take them away from the comforts of home. (They're doted on, why would they ever want to leave?) They often visit the Shirogane Kurosawa house to spar with Hayate. Servants: Jiro the Dollmaker is one of the last remaining members of the Kajiwara family, long indentured to the Kurosawas. He creates the ikite iru ningyō which serve the Kurosawa, crafting the dolls with careful precision. He and Kagayaku are working together in an attempt to recreate the one true ikite iru ningyō success in the family history. Ayame Hinasaki is Jiro's daughter, a widow whose brief marriage brought a bit more wealth to the Kajiwara family (and therefore to the Kurosawas.) She is Jiro's apprentice in the dollmaker art, focusing primarily on creating the bodies for the household servants that Jiro and Kagayaku "awaken." Onryō: Akane Kurosawa is the spirit that haunts Kyako's every moment. Having marked the youngest Kurosawa for sacrifice to follow her example, she remains with Kyako, usually unseen. This is partially protection, saving Kyako from misfortune that might end her life before the prescribed date, and partially the same spiteful envy which drove Akane to curse the family line. Akane embodies when the family gathers at the shrine maintained on Mount Rokkon to accept sacrifices made in her honor. She only fully embodies if Kyako is in danger or on the date of sacrifice to administer the final end. Pets: N/A While Kyako would love to have a pet snake, she doesn't wish to leave any more living creatures behind when the day of her death arrives.
Tumblr media
SKILLS:
Abilities: N/A - With a limited span of life available, Kyako has been taught no life skills beyond basic daily necessities. Her inclinations towards aetherial manipulation that would possibly have led to training as a healer have been ignored due to her position within the family. Hobbies: Calligraphy, dancing, reading, painting, embroidery, gardening, alchemy, beadwork. Kyako is terrible at all of them, but enthusiastic and her efforts are praised highly by the family.
TRAITS:
Most Positive: Her optimism. Others raised in the knowledge that they will not see a full span of thirty years have been hostile, angry, and lashed out against their family duty. By comparison to others who gave their lives for the family, Kyako is optimistic and enjoys every day she's given. Most Negative: Her position in the family means none of the Kurosawa will deny Kyako anything she asks for. As she will be giving them the ultimate sacrifice, the small personal sacrifices that her siblings and cousins make for her are ignored and unappreciated. All Kyako notices is that her wants are almost immediately met and her whims are the forces that move her family members around her.
LIKES:
Colors: Black, white, all shades and variations of green, cherry blossom pink Smells: Pine, wet soil after a rain, sea salt air, Thavnarian coffee, almond oil, clean steel Textures: High quality silk, neatly trimmed grass, callused hands, snake scales, fur Drinks: Green tea, Thavnarian coffee, golden plum wine, Ul'dah sodas (usually cherry blossom flavored, Hayate simply learned how to mix the carbonated water with flavored syrups and cream for Kyako's taste)
OTHER DETAILS:
Smokes: On occasion. She's not particularly enjoyed any blends she's tried yet, but she likes to experience everything. Drinks: Golden plum wine, sake, a sweet Sharlayan rose wine Drugs: On occasion. As with smoking, she tries everything. She enjoys opium when she's having quiet nights at home. Mount Issuance: The Kurosawa household has two chocobo carriages which are driven by other members of the family. Kyako is only allowed to ride in one, not drive it herself, although she was given the chance to ride a chocobo in a fenced yard under supervision. Been Arrested: No. The Kurosawas keep Kyako very close to the family home or always within reach of a family member.

You’ve single-handedly made me appreciate season 3, both through your fic and your analysis posts. Thank you
Thank you! As I've been rewatching the series, I've remembered what I loved about s1, and what other people loved about s1--the sort of dark academia feel, the pure psychological drama, the theme of recovery from abuse. The two seasons after can feel like a whole different show, and I don't think that's a bad thing. S1 indeed gave us the most angst, but the other two seasons gave us great plot and drama. By the end of s3, it feels more like Stephen King than ASOUE. And again, that's not a bad thing. S1 is wonderful, but it's okay for a show to be dynamic like this as long as it's still a good show.
But the reason s1 had so much angst and that dark, aching feeling is because they're so isolated from each other. Over the course of all three seasons, though, the family has come closer and closer together, and that's what's been healing their individual and collective traumas. It's not that their healing has brought them together--being together is what has been causing their healing.
Also I'm a little lenient on s3 just because they had to change so much due to filming during the pandemic. However, the soundtrack was way better in the other two seasons, so there's that. The pandemic didn't cause that one.

Asoue and wwdits
Into the woods if you feel up to it
Thanks for the ask, darling!!
Just answered for asoue here
What We Do In the Shadows
OTP: oh it's gotta be Nadja/Lilith. What can I say; I'm a sucker for lesbians, Lucy Punch, and bitter exes. They really have it all <3
Favourite canon pairing: Nadja/Laszlo of course. Though in recent series they haven't really been getting any screen time so my love for them has been dying somewhat. I hope they get some good scenes in the last season!
Worst pairing ever: Nadja and Colin. Why did they do that. Why did they do that. Why did they do that. Why did they-
Guilty pleasure pairing: I WAS HALFWAY THROUGH WRITING AN 'OH I DON'T REALLY HAVE ONE' PASSAGE WHEN I REALISED I DO. I FUCKING DO AND NO ONE WILL KNOW WHAT I'M ON ABOUT BUT HERE GOES ANYWAY!! Okay so you know in that one episode when Nadja was on the council and they had a fancy banquet and Nandor was in his depression nap and everyone thought he was dead?? Well one of the sexy vampire ladies that turned up was Carmilla (famous vampire from the vampiric novel, Carmilla) and I ABSOLUTELY wanted her and Nadja to get together. There it is, that's the guilty-pleasure ship, yet another one-episode character but somehow worse than Lilith because Carmilla only had like three lines
A pairing you want to see more: Nadja/The Guide!! The Guide is throwing herself at my girl and she is absolutely clueless. Icon <3
That pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: Nadja/Jenna. Really not into it, she gave me a VERY strong maternal vibe and I am. Not a fan of shipping them. Again, you do you, but like. Not for me
Favourite non-romantic pair: Nadja & Guillermo! I wish we'd given more focus to their dynamic earlier in the show, they' 've always had the potential to be really great bitchy friends, but we DID get her going absolutely fucking feral to save his life, risking hers in the process, so... it's a win <3
Into the Woods
I have basically never thought about shipping these characters so this is going to be fun
OTP: Baker's Wife and Cinderella. Straight up, I think it would be really fun and also the whole "when you know you can't have what you want what's the profit in wishing?" vs "how can you know what you want til you get what you want and you see if you like it?" I'm just saying, their little late night heart-to-hearts could have turned into something fruity
Favourite canon pairing: Cinderella's Prince/Baker's Wife is literally just funny. Like girlie what was even going through your head there
Worst pairing ever: Rapunzel/Rapunzel's Prince. I'm sorry, she was locked in a tower for her entire life, then abandoned by her mother for the horrible crime of making a friend (and fucking him, but still, that was your fault too buddy-boy), and he has the audacity to complain that she cries too much?? She wandered alone in the desert with newborn twins thinking that you were DEAD. It's been less than a year! My girl had TRAUMA and she deserved better
Guilty pleasure pairing: the Witch and the Stepmother. Do they ever interact? No. Do I think it'd be super funny to pair up the only villainous women just because? Absolutely. They can start an "I was a bad mother but also I love my children with my whole heart" club and make each other worse
A pairing you want to see more: Florinda and Lucinda with Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, respectively. First of all I think it's funny that it would fulfil the whole 'good marriage' thing, but also I just think the stepsisters get a really rough deal and someone needs to get those princesses out of there before the aspiring Henry VIII's get on to their second wives
That pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: Baker/Baker's Wife. I'm sorry, there is no good option here. She cheated, he undervalued her at every turn, yells in her face because she just wants to help, and then has this ~wonderful realisation~ that "wow, maybe I should work with my wife!" before going straight back to his "you stay here and do nothing Because I Said So" mindset in act two. Mans has anger issues and I don't like it. Also, again, she cheated. There is no good angle to this relationship
Favourite non-romantic pair: Cinderella and the Baker. They really said "well, that was an awful lot of trauma none of us asked for. Guess we're sticking together and raising a family of two orphans and your infant son that you had with your wife (who's now dead) who cheated with my husband (who's telling people I'm dead)". Like that's so fuckin iconic.
Wait but ALSO the Witch and Rapunzel??? That's a fucking fascinating dynamic right there, like the Witch does love her! She absolutely unequivocally does! But also she doesn't know how to love her, and it is SO endlessly interesting to me and always will be
Send me a fandom and I'll answer these questions!

the three positively good things about the (generally quite enjoyable and properly preserved) real asoue tv series are:
the lemony snicket narrator, in how he explains things and his personal hijinks while on the lam
the bait-and-switch with the parents in the first season
the second season's attempt to theme each book's episodes on a particular classic movie style
but to make it properly Good it would have needed
to cater more toward the tastes of children rather than being in the space that YA is; less clutter on the surface level of plot
ambiguity; the sugar bowl is a macguffin, not just descriptively but inherently - the reason for wanting it has to be opaque
more complexity. The fun of investigation and analysis is ruined if you connect all the dots for the viewers. Connect some by all means, the ones that feature in the main plot, but leave most of what's going on in the world implicit or hidden.
if daniel handler is involved, more visual references to litfic; regardless, more of the 3rd bullet point in the top list

Duncan/Klaus? 💕
A+: OTP A: I love it B: It’s really cute C: Not a bad ship
D: I’m neutral on it E: I don’t really like it F: NOTP N/A: I don’t know the ship well enough
Ah, Duncan and Klaus. It's a ship I admit to thinking is cute and adorable, yet also a ship I can't help but go, "huh??"
To make a long rant short, I personally didn't like how Netflix ASOUE handled and treated Duncan and Isadora and their story line in Season Two (and Three: hello reused footage of Season Two TVV, Part Two for Chapter Fourteen!). I don't know why, but I thought Duncan and Isadora, especially Duncan, became flat characters, for a lack of better word, and in comparison to their book-counterparts.
How Duncan and Isadora were adapted affected my feelings and opinions on some Unfortunate Gen ships with them. In fact, for a good while I thought of Duncan and Klaus as a ship I couldn't understand. I still don't, especially if the ship is just in the Netflix continuity.
In the book continuity? I manage to get thoughts, but it's not a lot. Duncan and Klaus would call each other rude nicknames with all the love and affection for one another, confusing outsiders who don't know or those that know them rolling their eyes. They would watch documentaries and movies together on the sofa and cuddle one another, all while poking found of the factual correctness/realistic factor, forcing those watching too to leave. They are two quiet, polite people who when together, become silly and slightly chaotic.
I hope this respond is okay for you, Anon. I'm sorry if my answer isn't what you expected, as well as taking so long. The 'long rant short' part is what took up lots of time, for I went back and forth between keeping it, cutting it out, or shortening it.

tag 9 ppl u want to get to know better! tagged by @thotforest :)
3 ships: ok in agreeing with u, my friend, and picking Carmen/Hennessy cause they are the best opposites attract. Also gonna say Mr. Gray and Maura cause I feel insane about them (“it was a glance” makes my brain make car crash sounds). This is such a hard question cause I don’t wanna cop out and say pynch cause duh that’s why we r all here. Maybe I’ll say clémence and tove cause 1899 really got a handle on me and I hope they do something lesbian next season.
First ever ship: hmmm I’m not 100% if it’s official but the first fan fic I remember reading was asoue isadora/klaus so I’ll say them
Last song: Cemetery Drive by MCR on my way home from work last night
Last movie: Hmmmmmm probably Love, Actually which I have seen three times so far this season
Currently reading: ok my fun book rn is The Wizard of Camelot by Simon Hawke and my EVEN MORE fun book is The Aesthetics of Nostalgia by Dr. Renee Trilling. They couldn’t be more different but they are book good
Currently watching: I just started Wednesday with my mom
Currently consuming: my morning coffee
Currently craving: I really wanna drive around my home town and look at the Christmas lights but no one wants to go with me :/
Tagging @saturniiforme @bel1zzybub @cinderscoria @peonydarling (why is it saying u don’t exist. I know u exist I just checked) let’s be real y’all I was never gonna tag nine whole ppl.

ik what you mean about hp. unpopular opinion but im excited about the series too
i mean there's much resentment for jkr and for good reason so i understand that? i’m just not about to let her ruin my love for a book series i grew up with. that's my two cents.
and when it comes to ppl moralising about giving money to her etc ive said this before but it comes off as hypocritical cause they'll pick and choose which projects to be outraged about and it'll be crickets about others. take rings of power for instance when everyone suddenly decided to give a fuck about giving money to amazon as if the rest of the streaming services aren't run by capitalist demons. marvel movies have been out there preaching US imperialist propaganda for over a decade and getting funded by the pendagon but you won't see post after post and video after video talking about boycotting them
as for the reboot aspect...listen. i get people being sick to death of reboots and the lack of creativity in hollywood. i do. and i agree that you don't mess with a perfectly nice movie/adaptation etc when the original is right there (ie the lotr trilogy!).
but the thing is i don't think the hp movies are a good adaptation and i have thought so since the 2000s! i know that many people love them but for me they were always just...bad. the first three are pretty good but it's a trainwreck from then on. every movie is less coherent and duller than the last one, so many good parts of the books are left out, characters are either left out entirely or butchered on screen. plus so many casting choices were off imo. i know people love the golden trio bc they grew up with them etc etc but for me they were just...meh. for the better part of the films chemistry is nowhere to be seen (not even talking about romantic chemistry, though that was catastrophic too, but even as a friend group).
plus hp would work so much better in a series format than it could ever work as movies. that's been proven again and again for books getting a second chance at an adaptation by a streaming platform after bombing in the box office as movies. it happened with two of my favourite childhood book series (asoue and hdm) and it'll probably happen with percy jackson and harry potter too. there's just no comparison between a 2 1/2h movie and a 8-10 episode season. A series gives you the chance to better flesh out the characters, adapt most of the source material and expand on it.
so yeah im pretty excited the books are finally getting a decent adaptation cause the movies are far from it for me. also hopefully the hbo series will be much more diverse than the movies which is always a plus

Top 5 favourite fanfics? :)
THAT is a hard one!!! I read a lot of good fics, and 95% of the fics I read are fics I enjoy and are interested in.
I think I am gonna go with fics that genuinely have stuck with me all these years and have truly inspired me to create my own.
First up is soft Janis? In MY groupchat? it's more likely than you think! by ao3 user caughtontape. This fic is what really made me love reading and writing chatfics. I have laughed SO MUCH reading this.
Then we got Should I Stay AU by ao3 user midas_touch_of_angst. It's an asoue stranger things au and I really enjoyed the concept of all the kids having powers. It was also really interesting how they discovered the powers.
By the same author, we also have the Six Baudelaires AU. Connie, if you're reading this, the things you've done for the fandom... you're the reason for the multiples aus boom we had right after the Netflix show ended.
There's a glee rewrite by three authors on ao3: madeofmemories, theMaskedMan and TheRealRyanMurphy. What is amazing is how these three had the energy to co-write a whole fic! At least season 1 ;) But it's very nice and amazing!
Now, for a fifth... I do read a lot of dcla fics, but it would not be fair to put only one of them here! Because such a large chunk of them are good! <3 So I can't give one place for a fifth!
