Prompt 239
Y'know what I think would be hilarious for a DP and PJO crossover? Percy & co finally getting to Kronos, straight up ready for anything after they pass through magic and portal of green and-
There's the smell of cookies. Freshly baked cookies, a warm oven, something about it reminding them of home in this strange place of floating gears and ticking clocks.
And there's a long, serpentine tail twisting through the gears, twisting up and down and across in a size that could hides yet reveals just how large this entity is. There's power soaking into every inch of this place, every centimeter nearly sending lightning up their legs with each step.
The ticking is getting stronger, a distant gonging of the hour echoing through a place that should feel cold and empty like the ringing of bells in the end of times.
And suddenly there's a kid- a teen like them, human yet not- with a cookie half in their mouth and hair flickering like the cosmos as they peer down from above them with a frown, eyes brighter than the sun yet darker than the moon.
"Oh great, what did my half-siblings do this Time?"

pairing: hoshina soushirou x gn!reader
summary: how you met hoshina at an art gallery, the art piece mentioned is The Tiff by Florence Carlyle, link to a better pic of it I took myself (I think)
notes: you're a little bold, you're a fate believer
Tumblr media
“Darling,” Hoshina said and you immediately snapped out of your daze. “Darling, are you listening?”
“Sorry,” you replied truthfully.
“What's on your mind?” he asked, sulking a little. It was fair, considering this was your first date in a while. Ever since you got engaged, dates had become far less frequent— there was a lot to still plan out with your wedding coming up.
That made you laugh. You pointed to the advertisement on the billboard for the art gallery. “Remember?”
Tumblr media
It wasn't like you’d always had a great interest in paintings, nor was it like you were an art gallery enthusiast, but there was one painting particular painting you had always gone back to see.
You had found it by chance one day, while you were at the gallery for a project you had. It was of a pretty lady from seemingly a well-off family sulking after a small quarrel with the man behind her— perhaps her lover. Painted in a time period where it was only natural to show and paint formality, especially in women, it showed a private more real depiction of a woman in her home.
The colours used and the pure scale of the painting absolutely took your breath away. The slight sulk on her face that seemingly unmatched her beautiful dress that took up the canvas was nothing short of stunning. You could not put a finger on just what it was that caught your eye, but it calmed you so much during a stressful week at school. Before you knew it, you found yourself going back to it whenever things were rough. It was sure to better your day.
That’s what you were doing yet again that day. Going to see that one painting. You had been going to see it rather often lately, but you couldn’t help it. Finals week was soon and things were busy at work too. It was the only thing that would calm you down.
“Excuse me,” you heard someone’s voice. You turned around just to take a look, but to your surprise he was talking to you. It was a young man, perhaps around your age. He had a long coat with a pretty sweater underneath. He was gorgeous, quite frankly. Quickly, you took your earbuds out.
“Oh, hello,” you said.
“Sorry to bother,” he said. “Is this one of your favourites? I feel as though I've seen you a few times here. I apologize if I'm mistaken.”
“It actually is,” you said. “I think that might have been me as well. I find myself coming here whenever I'm having a rough week.”
He smiled. “That sounds nice,” he said. “Sorry, I must sound terribly strange— this is one of my favourites as well. You're here quite often whenever I come to take a look. I thought I'd… say hello.”
Suddenly he seemed rather flustered.
“Oh, not at all. I'm glad you said hi,” you said. “It’s unfortunately not the most popular painting in the gallery, not many people stop by for that long here.”
He seemed vaguely relieved. Or perhaps that was in your head.
“Are there others you like?” he asked.
“Um,” you said. “A few here and there… but I usually come here just to see this one, embarrassingly… However, if you have any you're fond of, I'd love to see. If you don't mind, that is.”
“I’d love to,” he said.
And that was all it took for the two of you to spend the rest of the day together, just walking through the art gallery— stopping wherever necessary. While you actually preferred to go to the gallery alone because you felt more comfortable stopping and taking your time, the pieces you enjoyed overlapped quite a bit and you felt at ease going around and taking your time with him.
“Sorry, I hope I wasn't taking up your time,” he said after you had gone through the gallery, looking at his favourite pieces. There weren't a great abundance of them, but you could immediately tell why he liked them— they all made you want to stay longer to take a better look.
“Not at all,” you said. “I haven't felt so nice in ages.”
He smiled softly. “I'm glad to hear,” he said.
Your eyes met his, and you averted your eyes by reflex. He was so pretty, you were sure you could feel your face heating up. You hoped he couldn't tell.
“You're quite adorable, do you know?” he said, naturally.
Immediately, you turned to look back at him, and he couldn't help but laugh. “See,” he said. “You look so flustered.”
“You're teasing me!” you said.
“Sorry, sorry,” he said, after a small chuckle. “I couldn’t help it.”
His eyes widened slightly and your eyes met for another moment too long— but to you, that moment felt like an eternity. The world around you blurred, the other people lost form, and the colourful pieces you were surrounded by were all just a jumble of colours. It was just you and him. And perhaps the pounding of your heart.
The next words that left your mouth were nothing but bold, but it was your heart speaking, not your head.
“Can I… ask for your number?” you asked, averting your eyes, very bashfully.
That caught him off guard. Less the fact that you’d be exchanging numbers, because he had already planned to ask you, but rather the fact that you asked him first.
“I was just going to ask. I apologize I made you ask,” he said. Then a moment. “Is this safe to say you don’t have a partner?”
Your heartbeat quickened. “No, I do not,” you said. “You?”
“No, as well. If we come here again, can I assume that’ll be a date?”
Your eyes widened. “I’d love that,” you said softly. “Rather… could this be a date?”
His cheeks were faintly red and it took a moment before he chuckled. “I didn’t expect you to be so bold,” he said. He held out his hand, waiting for you to take hold of it, and so you did.
That was all it took for so many more dates to follow. By the third date, he had asked you to be his partner, and to his delight your reply was immediate. For quite a few dates after that one, you just met up at this art gallery to do the same thing, and after the two of you felt like you’ve checked everything in the gallery, the dates finally shifted a little. Sometimes it was a brunch at a cute cafe, or a horror movie a little too late at night, or even a study date.
It didn’t take long before you found out Hoshina was from a renowned family of swordsmen, and his goal was to join the defense force. He’ll tell you now, thinking back fondly, that in reality he was really nervous telling you about it. He didn’t know if he could take it if you had told him he couldn’t do it. Yet, naturally, you seemed so excited for him. He’ll tell you now just how much it meant to him that you didn’t doubt him for a second. That was when he knew for sure that he loved you.
Tumblr media
Hoshina laughed. “Remember? Really?” he asked, giving you a playful jab. You laughed.
“We haven’t been in a while,” you said.
“We really haven’t. Should we go today?” he asked.
“That’d be really nice actually,” you said, and he nodded happily.
For a few seconds neither of you said anything.
“You know what scares me a lot?” Hoshina started to say, all serious. That caught your attention. He wasn’t one to get so serious often, let alone speak about his fears. You didn’t know he had fears for starters.
“What?” you questioned.
“I think about what would’ve happened if I didn’t bump into you at the gallery the few times I went. We were at the same painting, at the same time, multiple times. Anything could have gone wrong,” he said. “And then what if I hadn’t said ‘hello’? What then?”
His eyes went to his ring on his finger for a moment— only a moment— but you would never miss it. “Would none of this have happened?”
To his surprise you laughed. “No, because we’re meant to be,” you said.
His eyes widened. He knew you weren’t cracking a joke, you were laughing because to you, this was a silly question. You were dead serious.
“Think about it,” you said. “The sheer probability that we were at the same place at the same time all those times must mean something if it happened. I think that the fact that we’re going back with rings on our fingers after all these years means it was meant to be. Not the other way around.”
He couldn’t help but smile. This wasn’t out of the ordinary— he’d overthink something and you’d come and blow his worries away.
“I suppose I was meant to be yours then,” he said, oh so naturally. Then, a chuckle. “Darling, you look starstruck.”
“I am,” you said. “I was most definitely meant to be yours.”
You pulled on his sleeve and he didn’t waste a second. His lips were on yours and it hurt you how ridiculously happy he looked.
“Love you,” you said.
“Love you, more,” he said.
A few months later, the two of you were to have your wedding at the exact gallery, where everything started.

perhaps my most #cancelable videogame take i can post on this website is i think that the kind of people who say that anyone who picks the "morally wrong" or "mean" options in video game dialogue should, as a player, feel bad about their own choices/morals in real life. is that those people are just another flavor of the kind of dudes who play Disco Elysium and get mad for not being rewarded for picking the facist options. both of these groups are reducing games to "a thing I want to agree with me and everyone else who doesn't either suffers or does not have the option to play a character who behaves otherwise" rather than "a medium where you get to (or even Have to) explore different kinds of characters in order to experience the full depth of the story and characters in it."
When I want to pick options in a game that are mean, negative, arrogant, or ignorant, it's because I want to explore what would push a character into becoming that kind of person. Sometimes I want to see how the NPC characters who I-The-Player like/agree with react to someone who is fundamentally different from them. I think it's GOOD actually when the narrative allows you to push limits and especially when it has the option to then punish you for it in some way, such as losing options/routes later on, or companions straight up abandoning you for your choices. It DOES often make me deeply, viscerally uncomfortable to make choices in a game that are so counter to my own, but it means I get to experience that discomfort in an isolated environment and also think about what it means, what would push the character or even yes a real person into actually feeling those things. And I get to play with what ways the narrative could challenge them/make them grow over the course of the game--or on the other side, it can let me make a character who does start off more open/accepting but let the events of the narrative push them into being more reactively closed-minded instead.
I like that we have invented a medium where you can play a game multiple times and experience it differently depending on the character you play as. Books and TV and movies are all static--the greatest draw of games to me is the ones that are responsive, that can tell a slightly different story every time--when other characters in the game respond differently to you because of it, or some paths open up and others don't. And so yes it did disappointment me when a franchise that previously had these elements, Dragon Age, did not include them in the most recent installment. I don't think games should have options where you get to just hit a button to say something racist with no consequences or exploration into why a character would do that. but like, if i can only ever play a game as an upstanding person who is morally right all the time in basically the same flavor for every dialogue. I only get to truly play that game Once, you know? And I only get to see the way the companions react to someone they like and trust. And never really go deeper than that.
So like... I just sit and think about the scenes you can get in Inquisition. with Cassandra breaking down, because she fears she placed a would-be tyrant at the head of a powerful organization--that she searched and searched and chose wrong. Of Varric who is desperate to convince you not to become a monster, like the last person he feels betrayed him. Vivienne intentionally pissing you off because she wants to see how far you'll go when angered, how much she has to worry about your reactions. They say so much about the companions, what they fear most, and where they will draw the line. And especially in Inquisition, at these crisis points--you don't have to double down. Your character can have a come-to-Andraste moment where they go "woah... is that really how people see me? is this what i want?" and I think that kind of option can do way more for encouraging actual players to examine the choices they make in stories, more than locking the player into supportive, non-aggressive options does.
now. do i think all games execute these flavors well? no. writers and devs will have their own biases and blind spots, even if they are otherwise well-intentioned. and I don't think the ends of the scale need to extend from "absolute angel" to "horrible bigot", because the real complexity of course lies in the middle. I am not asking for games to let me be bigoted at every turn, what I want is games that let me make the protagonist deeply flawed in one or more ways--fearfully closed-minded to things outside their upbringing, or afraid of change to the status quo, or who want to advance their own aims regardless of consequences to others. I actually agree that the game was correct not to include any options for disrespecting Taash and their personal journey for example, but I do wish... idk maybe that we could have had a scene where if for instance the player character avoided outside-world missions relating to clearing away blight, they could confront us on how this might devastate the natural world and its creatures like dragons, and push us into trying to resolve it. Or in the other direction, if you spend the (currently meaningless) time giving money to background NPCs begging in the cities, Neve could could have a special cutscene thanking you for your attention to people otherwise beneath notice. You know?
And of course not every game can do this, I can write those sentences up there that represent hundreds of hours of dev time, of course they can't do it all. But the prior games usually did have at least a little of this, and that was enough to make me really fall in love. I KNOW the tumultuous development cycle, restarts from scratch, interference from higher-ups all contributed to why Veilguard was unable to hit those same marks this time. And we probably won't ever know how much of the loss of options/reactivity was intention vs a side effect of these things. But I wish people wouldn't frame players who miss these aspects as insane/morally corrupt. When for most of us it's because we genuinely enjoy challenging and exploring these aspects of reality in fiction in a way entirely unlike what we actually support in real life. i fully acknowledge not everyone desires to play this way. and that's fine!!! i am glad people can enjoy doing a "good" run each time that brings them joy. but for me it really limits the potential bounds of my enjoyment i guess. I like media that is complicated and messy and makes me think, and extra so when I get to see how playing that way impacts the greater story around it.

While browsing Vogue magazine, Sébastien Mitton found a photograph of Ruby Aldridge from the Céline Fall 2011 fashion show. He said, “Boom! We have the direction!” Her beauty and her unsettling gaze drove the first concept art for Emily.

experimenting with digitally colouring my traditional stuff again yayyy
since i've been busy lately my ghostie has just been cycling between doing standard (non-violent) silvering work, delving into red science/katatox for no personal reason other than Well It's Something New To Do, and claiming so many crates of biscuits their beatdowns became a local attraction.
i've also been all capped at 212 for the longest time (except persuasive at 209) & these checks are all piss easy. barely a challenge. so, to their thrill-seeking ass, this must mean that... well, this means things aren't fun anymore. and i wonder. why aren't things fun anymore? is this anhedonia. am i incidentally giving my touy depression with my procrastination

WHO WANTS MY VERY SELF INDULGENT ADORIBULLAVELLAN MODERN THEDAS AU !!!!! (assorted doodles included ....)
Tumblr media
got inspired by the many a modern thedas au available on ao3, my forever love for the ace attorney series and also i got tired of drawing armour and leather belts
general overview is anastasios n bull work at the same law firm (assorted practices in the office, ann focuses on family law and bull focuses on youth law because i like the hc that hes good with kids) and dorian's a professor at a local university (because of course he is)
lowkey office romance with bull and anastasios; dorian was a client once in the firm and ann recognizes him in a bar one time, and i havent decided how bull and dorian meet 🥀 most likely thru anastasios
guarantee is that they all get together at the end, that is a Fact
and then related assorted doodles here:

ummm.... hit my ask box up for more details 😋
this mostly focuses on the inquisition cast and ive more or less figured out modern au equivalents for their jobs as well
