there isn't like. some kind of officially-accessible Government Record of diagnosis somewhere, is there? I was diagnosed with autism as a little kid but between moving like 5 times, at some point my parents lost my medical records and started fresh, and they decided to just not tell future doctors i was autistic, so it's not on my current medical record with my current PCP. and I've kind of been assuming that it's not going to cause me any problems? but idk how it works, do you think there's a way that that old official DX might catch up with me somehow?
oh no, it's not as dire as all that, i didn't mean to fearmonger. also to be fair a lot of the situations it can work against you in are fairly specific? as others have pointed out, adopting children or getting custody can be harder, because we have to work AGAINST the assumption that we're helpless. and apparently some countries like new zealand can reject immigration applications if they deem you "a high cost to the health system," whatever the hell that means.
these fears are true of ANY disability diagnosis though, not just autism. it's just the ongoing struggle to justify our right to, you know, have rights.
it's not something that is likely to interfere unless you volunteer that information to people who might abuse it though (people making big legal decisions about you like social security agents, i mean), and if it's not in your current medical records, you're definitely fine.

when i tell people i majored in international relations they always ask why don't i work in a company or business.... um i could but how do i explain to people that an IR degree has nothing to do with business or economics and is actually more akin to history and geography

Honestly, there is a certain type of fetishizing of violence that occurs when you are the victim of abuse - wherein people talk directly to you about how much they fantasize about your abuser/s dying and being killed - "all abusers must be killed!" they say.
As a victim of prolonged abuse, I never felt cared for when people indulged that information to me. It often feels like my abuse is being exploited for others to enact their own violent fantasies and secret desires - my abuse means nothing to them in the same way that I didn't matter to my abusers. It's not support - it's just another cycle of violence.
I'm begging people to care more about victims and survivors than they do about retribution of abusers. Nowhere along the way should your focus on the abuser outweigh the people affected by their abuse. If you truly want to support abuse victims and survivors, start with us

its funny because Percy has been spiraling ever since pjo and whenever he has a particularly bad episode you have other characters actively worried about it and you think to yourself surely they're going to intervene, surely someone is going to talk to him about it, and then like no one ever does lol

Watching the Percy Jackson series has made me empathize with Aphrodite more than I ever thought possible.
Cuz these kids are TWELVE and are out here just trying to SURVIVE, but every time Percy and Annabeth interact I’m giggling and kicking my feet like “Hehehe you don’t know it yet, but that is the love of your life. Yes, yes, there’s a big scary monster but what about the slow-burn romance?”
And I always found it so annoying in the books when Aphrodite would show up and only be interested in the romantic dynamics between the characters and otherwise be kinda useless. But now??? I’m totally on the same page with her. Cuz I know they’re going to fight a million monsters and win, and at the end of the day one fight looks just like the next. But they only fall in love ONCE and it’s AMAZING.
Like damn. Apologies the goddess Aphrodite. I suddenly get it.
