Hello everyone. I am bacckkkk!!!! Sorry for disappearing for such a long time.... Things had been a bit busy at my end.
Here is a shinran short story to cheer you up. Cause I don't know about you guys but I am definitely having shinran withdrawals (I constantly have ShinRan withdrawals).
For all the images used, all the credit goes to the original artists. These are not mine.
So without further ado. Happy reading!
TITLE - Half - Love
"I am in half-love, half-love will be yours."
"With each these halves our love will be fulfilled."
"These small steps will help us cross the miles of a long journey."
.......Ran is humming again.... Conan listened quitely
"Slowly and slowly this newfound colour of love will get deeper."
"These small steps will help us fulfill all our promises."
....... A love song......
Conan felt a complex tumble of emotions. He felt a lump stuck in his throat, almost like a stone had been dropped in his stomach. His gaze was fixed on Ran, a little forlorn, sad, even perplexed with some underlying sparks of joy as well.
At the moment Ran was humming a cheerful love song, her footsteps were light and floaty. She was preparing for dinner and was delighted, why you ask? Because she had just finished talking to Shinichi. She was feeling happy and blissful after talking to her 'boyfriend.'
Oh my god!!! It is real! He really is mine!
Ran still couldn't help but internally squeal with joy, feeling a rush of butterflies and her cheeks taking a rosy hue. She really felt as if everything that happened at Kiyomizu dera was still a dream.
After concluding the call with Ran as 'Shinichi,' Conan came back home only to be brightly greeted by Ran. He settled down in the drawing room where he planned to do his 'homework' but once again he was distracted by Ran.
He knew that she loved him. He had known that she at least liked him since the day he became Conan, but sometimes he would get overwhelmed by seeing the same love in action. As 'Conan' he was literally a third-party observer in his own relationship.
"Can this situation get any more absurd!?" Shinichi would sometimes sit blankly thinking about it.
Shinichi was terrified of hurting Ran especially when he was the cause, even the thought of her being in pain or distressed made his blood crawl backwards. Initially, he never said anything to her even after knowing her feelings was because he didn't want to hurt her as he 'physically' could not be by her side as 'Shinichi.' But now things were different, so very different. Whenever he talked to her, he felt bittersweet and frustrated at the same time.
As Conan, he could see Ran being directly affected by his actions. He did his best to not hurt her but he would cave in to his own desires too sometimes, but this warm-hearted woman would even find joy even in his most meagre steps.
Just one step from me towards her makes her sunny and gleeful.
'......the red gloves I gave as a Christmas present.....'
'.....the time I accepted the Valentine's day chocolate without her knowing.....'
'..... the time I gave her my phone number....'
There were so many instances in his mind that he could not even recount them all.
If I don't call her she is beside herself with worry and the worst part is that this is the one time she is extremely good at hiding her emotions.
'....Immediately after I shrank and was on radio silence for an entire week.....'
'...... Heck, I had not even realised that Ran was having insomnia due to her worries.....'
I can't thank Hakase enough for making the voice-changing bowtie.
'.....The passing forlorn wistful look in her eyes.......'
These moments were almost like glass shards piercing slowly and painfully into his body.
So this is how it feels, to see firsthand, seeing someone love so unconditionally.
To be her first thought in the morning,
To be the main character in her life, to be her favourite,
The reason she hums a romantic tune,
To be completely reflected in her eyes,
To be a home she craves for,
To have her life revolve around mine.
Conan sighed deeply and slumped on the table in despair but felt overwhelmed as well, being cherished by the person he adored had its own sense of bliss.
He imagined that at this very moment, he would turn in 'Shinichi.'
Slowly he made his way towards towards the kitchen where Ran was humming and was oblivious to his presence. He leaned at the door frame drinking in the sight of hers, Shinichi, almost as if in a trance walked towards her. His heart was beating furiously but calm at the same time. He was just half a step away when he heard her gasp in surprise as if she had felt his presence. At the same moment, Shinichi enveloped Ran in a hug from behind. His arms were sure and strong, tightly enveloping her.
"....Shinichi??" Ran's voice was a mix of surprise and confusion.
"What? How?" She mumbled.
"Hush now," said Shinichi, tightening his hold even further. Ran went still and blushed profusely.
Shinichi tightly clung to Ran, one arm crossed over her shoulder and the other encircled her waist, pulling her into a human cage. Shinichi buried his face in her neck.
"Your heart is beating so fast Ran," Shinichi murmured in a low husky voice.
'-Bec-because you are suddenly....and how??? and randomly .... from where....???' but it was almost as if someone had glued her mouth shut.
It felt wonderful to have her tucked away in his arms like this. His entire world was completely within his grasp.
Shinichi, slowly, very slowly trailed feather-like small kisses from the nape of her neck to her cheek. Her skin was soft and supple, her scent mild and addicting.
"I miss you so much," whispered Shinichi
His voice was tinged with sadness and longing as his lips lingered on her cheeks
*******
"Oi brat wake up the dinner is ready."
Kogorou's gruff voice startled Conan awake who looked around in a daze and half asleep.
Conan looked over to the kitchen to see Ran's back and quickly turned away feeling as if his cheeks were on fire. The dinner table was set and ready.
"Oi Ran, I am switching to the news."
"Haaiii."
"....The headlines for the day..."
"......Breaking and entering in the Haido-cho apartment..."
"....A new approved drug for appetite control...."
".....New mascot for XXX brand...."
Conan could barely concentrate on the news and ate with his head down with his ears still very much red. He couldn't even bring himself to look at Ran.
"Dad, Conan-kun, I am done. I have a ton of homework so just clear the tables I will do the dishes later."
Ran rushed to her room like a gust of wind and slammed the door shut.
"....Alright..." Kogorou just looked blankly at the now-empty space.
What the hell just happened? Ran and that brat are acting strange? Why are both their faces red? Is it flu season? Especially Ran, she had such a feverish look where right down to her neck she was completely red?
******
Ran slammed her door room shut and collapsed against it. Her breath was fast and erratic. Not just her face but it felt as if her body was burning.
What was that!? What was thaaattt!?
What's happening to me!?
I know I miss him. I know that I want him to come back as soon as possible but to have such thoughts where he...
Where he... touched and- and- and a kiss like thaaaattt.
Ran's face was steaming. It really resembled a freshly boiled crab, but she felt it even now as clear as day, her back pressed tightly against his, the intimate feel of their bodies, the warm breath, the low murmuring voice, his arms holding her tightly.
It felt so vivid and real, almost like a clandestine sweetheart visit.
Somehow Ran made it to her bed and hid in the cocoon of her blankets. Feeling too shy and embarrassed to even rationally process the tricks her mind played on her.
She opened her gallery and scrolled for his photograph. With a pang, she realised that the only recent pictures of him were from the school trip that too were mostly group pictures and had Sonoko not teased them enough to take a picture she may not have even had that. She scrolled further and came across a picture of him.
It was a candid picture of Shinichi looking elsewhere while holding a camera, he was smiling softly and looked very handsome.

(A/N - Cause he looks adorable)
Ran gently caressed the picture with her thumb.
I love you. I really love you a lot already, baka. So, please come quickly, I want to see you again.
She had an urge to call him again, to hear his voice but decided not to and fell asleep.
In her sleepy daze she remembered that Shinichi's candid photograph was clicked by Yukiko-san when he was clicking Ran's picture while they were in New York, a year ago.
*****
Conan sat on the balcony and was trying to cool his head. His dream or imagination or whatever had ended up ringing alarm bells in his mind.
'I want to hear her voice.'
He sighed, 'I' literally talked with her today and not to mention this is a one-sided long-distance relationship where I am actually living with her.
'I should not be this greedy.'
Conan opened his secret folder and yes he did have a secret folder full of Ran's images but the major culprit for it was Sonoko. She would occasionally send him Ran's pictures, she had been doing this for a while but the frequency had increased ever since he had become 'Conan' and Shinichi would simply not delete them.
He was not entirely at fault and this was a secret he was willing to keep for a bit longer than others.
He paused at the image which he had taken while they were in New York.
They were looking around the central park and Shinichi ended up clicking her picture as she was admiring the trees and just turned towards him. A shy surprised look as the sun and the wind gently caressed her.

(A/N - Cause she looks adorable too. I couldn't find a coloured picture, but the artist has done a fabulous job!!)
Shinichi felt the same burst of adoration as he always did when looked at the picture.
'I will be with you soon. I will come back to you as soon as I can and I will do my best to never leave you alone ever again.'
'Wait for me just a little longer.'
Almost as if his body moved on its own he gently kissed the screen and went back inside.
****The end****
A/N 1 - The images are NOT MINE. All the credit to the original artist.
A/N 2 - I hope you guys enjoyed reading it.
A/N 3 - Do forgive me for the grammatical errors
Please like and comment your thoughts.
BONUS cause the credit for this definitely goes to Sonoko.
These precious babies!!!

If you’re still accepting request, please make a morning after ShinRan the first time they did it? Maybe Shinichi wanting to do it again but being considerate to Ran? I just love the idea of Shinichi finally having a taste of Ran and can’t get enough of her! 😁
Also, you’re such a wonderful writer and your fics were escapes from what’s happening to the world. More power and stay safe!
A sweet anon deserves a sweet drabble. <3
Good Morning (ShinRan)
.
.
Daylight seeps through draped curtains, dawning upon sleep-addled eyes.
Shinichi groans, holds a hand up to shield the glow which, though gentle as can be, he finds hard to appreciate at hardly six in the morning. Sheets ruffle as he tries to face the other way, but realizes he can't.
His chest is heavy, what with the extra weight, but if it means not waking her up and having her roll out of his arms, he'll gladly endure at least thirty minutes more in this blinding position.
He doesn't wait long because she yawns. It's cute, the way her tongue darts between her lips while eyes still closed, the way her chin drags slowly across his bare chest when she tilts her head up.
“Good morning,” Shinichi whispers, smile curling up his lips. Strands of hair slide across her cheek when she blinks. He tucks it behind her ear.
“Good morning,” Ran whispers back, eyes half mast, letting in minimal light, no other sight but him first thing in the morning.
His heart wants to sing.
“Breakfast opens at six.” He takes the opportunity to turn her body to one side, her warmth quick to return as his chest is to lighten when he spoons her. “We have time.”
“Time for?” Ran yawns again, spine curving against his chest as she stretches lightly. It’s insane how well the shape of her fits the shape of him.
(Tried and tested and proven, a good seven hours ago.)
Time for more rest he means to say, but she asking aloud sends his mind drifting to an answer that's a far cry from rest.
(—For what is seven hours ago to two newlyweds on one hotel bed but a long blink, every detail leading to this morning burned fresh behind their lids?)
(Shinichi mentally gives himself a pat on the back for putting on his boxers before drifting to sleep. That’s one protective barrier.
The only one apparently, for here in his arms is his very naked wife.
Wife, shit, he can actually call her that now.)
It is when her head swivels to look at him that Shinichi snaps to attention, descending from the high he was momentarily taken to. “Time for a shower,” he murmurs as he curls on her, arms hiking up her torso, brushing the underside of her breasts. Gods, he thinks, these fit my hands so so perfectly. “But let’s stay like this for a while.”
“Okay.” He hears rather than sees her lazy smile. “Shinichi?”
“Yeah?”
“Sure that’s all you need time for?”
The movement of her rear is minimal, but that causes the man to stiffen where he lays, all his blood converging on one single point to poke her butt.
Ran bites her lip. Shinichi blinks.
(The protective barrier is useless.)
“Ignore it.” Shinichi feigns his cool, but he doesn’t think his next action through for he presses onto her tighter as if doing that can flatten the bulge, but he curses dumbly as the poke may have well turned into a stab. Ran lets out a strained mpfh, more to contain a giggle than anything else.
“It's normal,” Shinichi murmurs, embarrassed.
“I know. It's normal for boys.”
“I'm not a boy.” You've seen it, he doesn't say aloud. “Even grown men can—”
“Mhm, 'course they can, they do, more frequently even.” Her giggle bubbles out - adorable - before she faces him, palm landing on his chest, warm. "Grown men also have great self-control.”
His eyelids drop halfway as he surveys the unblanketed portion of her. Against the light, her silhouette shines, doing a job at making her look divine— despite the blotch above her collar bone. Despite her swollen lower lip.
(Did he really sleep with someone this immaculate?)
“I have great self-control,” he manages to say, even as Ran slings one leg over him under the duvet, nodding with her eyes closed.
“You do,” she says.
“I won't drag you into doing things you don't want to do.” His hand migrates to her jaw, thumb stroking the apple of her cheek.
“As you should,” she says.
“But I might die if I can't at least kiss you right now.”
Ran breaks into a chortle, knowing what to expect. She pries one eye open to peer at his pout, comically childish on his face. This is how she'll spend her first morning as the missus, by tormenting the mister. “Only a kiss,” she says solemnly.
Despite claiming himself a grown man, he surges in like a teenager kissing someone for the first time, teeth clashing from beaming too wide. Their lips are parched in the morning, but it's nothing his eager tongue cannot fix. And like a teenager, he moans early into it.
Ran almost bucks in, palms tempted to wander. But her thighs ache when she moves, so she opts instead to push his chest away, set to end the kiss.
Not on Shinichi's watch, it seems, because he props his body up to balance above her, not breaking the liplock - the tongue lock - and suddenly one hand is on her tits, another on her side, grasping sheets and splayed hair. Ran hums too, and in Shinichi's whirling mind it's an invitation, but Ran nudges - really nudges - his chest, lips separating with a loud smack.
“I said only a kiss!” she wails, half serious, half playful.
“I said at least a kiss,” he simpers, half playful, half serious. “So like, I kiss you, and we do tongue, and touch on top of that, maybe? Like last night—"
“You said you have great self-control.” She squints at him, restraining a ridiculous smile that threatens to split her face in half.
He tilts his head like a confused puppy, voice shrinking under a pout. “You really don't wanna?”
“Don't wanna.” She mirrors his pout, but cuter. “Body hurts everywhere.”
He seems to ponder for a moment before flopping back beside her, visibly dejected. “Fine.” Grown man who? Ran snorts.
But his arms coil around her waist, pulling her close to his heart. Above all rigid body parts, it beats loud, unwavering. The heartbeat of a man in love.
"You above all else,” he murmurs in her hair.
Ran wants to chide, she really does, but his warmth coupled with seconds of intimate silence - just them and their syncing heartbeats - make her want to burst into flames. He might be making a promise to her or to himself as he kisses her crown, but either way she believes it’s too early for this interplay of emotions. To smile, and laugh, and scream, and cry, and love. All for and because of him.
She thinks of saying something back, something like a repeat of their vows to match his sappiness, but all of that dissolves in her tongue when he beats her to speaking first, “But I think. I think— we should try our luck. We might even get a twin—”
“Shinichi!”
It’s a beautiful, beautiful morning.

Memories (ShinRan)
Fandom: Detective Conan
Pairing: ShinRan
Rating: T
Genres: Angst, Comfort
Words: 1,535
Author’s Notes: Remember my old WIP? I changed the title and finished drafting it right before @shinranweek was announced. 😅 The story is angst-ish mixed with confort. Enjoy!
“What a gloomy day!” Ran stares at the living room window with a frown on her face before returning to the couch. Shinichi, on the other hand, is fine with staying at home. He calmly stares at the television screen and says, “I wouldn’t worry. There’s always tomorrow. We can go to the park again, like we did yesterday. And remember, I’m not going anywhere. I’m here to stay. We have time.” That reassured Ran.
The Kudo mansion is quiet this Saturday afternoon, except for the rain lightly tapping on the windows and the sound of soup boiling in the background. Its smell of broth and fresh green onions linger around the living room and near the couch where she and Shinichi were located. Ran constantly switches her attention between the living room and kitchen while Shinichi sits and absentmindedly watches television.
Ran is spending the weekend over at Shinichi’s house. His parents are away for the week, and her father, Kogoro, left town for a case. During her visits, Ran’s favorite activity is to cook warm, homemade meals for an eager and hungry Shinichi, a tradition that first started during his Conan days. Today’s dish is miso soup, the perfect fix for the rainy weather. Good thing the meal sounds good because mothing good is on television right now. Bored, Shinichi daydreams, drifting to flashbacks of the past year’s chaos.
Calling it all chaos is an understatement. Might as well call it having your body and spirit stretched, compressed, stomped on, and slapped around. Being Conan was not easy. It was like one’s soul was screaming but nothing came out because its lips were sealed shut. He wished to tell Ran everything, to run free and stop living a double life and pretending he was not really Kudo Shinichi. The dangerous situation was an imaginary brick wall between him and Ran. He looked forward to finally breaking it and no longer seeing her hurting and waiting.
The Black Organization’s attack on him was a flash of lightning that ruined years of work achieved during his lifetime. Never will he forget the humiliation endured from being knocked down, bloodied, pulled by the hair, and forced to swallow that wretched pill. The poison’s few minutes of piercing, bone melting pain were followed by missed opportunities. Being Conan was a unique experience, but he can’t deny how his new life caused him to temporarily sacrifice his old one. To this day, he struggles to adjust but still manages to move on, in spite of slipping the occasional ah le le and Ran-neechan.
He next thinks about the moment he received the permanent APTX 4869 antidote. Days after receiving the pill, he recalls lying on a couch near Haibara Ai, who observed and documented his reaction to the drug. “Good news, Kudo-kun! Looks like the antidote is working as expected. Your vitals look fine. No heart problems or side effects. Everything looks great. Come back to visit me one week from now.” “Tch! You’d see me anyway. I live right next door,” Shinichi joked back.
At first, he was scared the drug was a fluke and would turn him back into Conan. Luckily, it ended well because he experienced the heart pounding and drastic bone growth without the shrinking afterwards. The worst after-effect was becoming Haibara’s test subject for a few days before her trying the antidote on herself. It was a sacrifice he was willing to make. After all, the first step in facing the Organization and gaining power over them was becoming himself again.
Back to reality. Shinichi shifts his attention back to the television screen and sighs. “Commercials are currently on. Still nothing good! How stupid!” The rain briefly stopped, but the clouds remain present. The house is a bit dark during these daytime hours. Ran is now in the kitchen stirring the soup.
Ran. Shinichi now blushes after he remembers telling her the truth a few weeks ago. He returned to the Mouri residence to pick up Conan’s (or his) belongings. They spoke alone in her bedroom, with her doing most of the talking. And boy, did he feel guilty! The memories hurt. He feels embarassed now while deep in his thoughts as he did then. He lied to her about his identity and used that front to stay at her home, take a bath with her, and unintentionally tune in on secrets she would never tell him as Shinichi.
Their conversation was actually quite a relief. Ran was more upset by him frequently running away to solve cases than over his massive lie. Shinichi felt grateful for her not breaking up with him, though their argument was settled under one condition: she keeps a very close eye on him. At least he finally gets to spend more time with her as himself this time.
He also owes Ran his life after the Black Organization’s defeat. Shinichi initially refused to get her involved. She instead was persistent and unwilling to listen. Never will she make the mistake of letting him run into danger alone again. His fast reflexes and her karate skills helped them escape a deadly kidnapping.
All this thinking makes Shinichi dose off and take a nap. In his sleep, he envisions Ran and himself strapped together, roped by their arms and waists and their backs turned away from one another. Ran lets out a soft cry, “Shinichi. I don’t want to die.” “Don’t say that,” he whispers. “Look, I have a plan. What we will do is —ah!” Gin appears out of nowhere, interrupting his speech before point a gun to his chest and forcing the poison on him again. He shoots and runs away before Shinichi could fight for Ran and himself. His vision is now blurred, and Ran is nowhere to be felt. He whimpers, and right when he becomes concerned about his body shrinking again, he wakes up sweating and screaming.
“Shinichi!” Concerned, Ran immediately darts towards the living room and sits on the edge of the couch. Shinichi’s eyes widened. He jitters, pants, and looks around in all directions before throwing himself at Ran with a tight embrace. She silently smiles and begins stroking his back. “Shhh! There! It’s okay. It’s okay,” Ran whispers before kissing his hair. He moves up and rests his face against her left shoulder. She eventually presses his back as a cue to change positions. “Hmm...please don’t leave,” Shinichi whispers. Ran responds, “Of course not! I just want to adjust myself.” “Oh!”
They settle down. Shinichi turns the TV off and begins talking: “Ran, I just had a nightmare about us. The Black Organization kidnapped us. Gin shot me and left me for dead once more. I couldn’t hear you, and I swore I was going to turn into Conan again. My first encounter with the Organization left me scared for my life. Scared for you too. Scared they would hurt you. I’m sorry again for everything. If I could take back this past year, I would. I betrayed you. I’d stop myself from leaving you behind back in Tropical Land. Back when I was Conan-kun, I wished you knew everything, but it would hurt you. I was also told not to tell you. Agasa-hakase and Haibara —”
“Ai-chan?”
“Yeah, her,” Shinichi continued. She even aimed a gun at me at the hospital after you donated blood to treat my gunshot wound. Or so I thought. It was a fake gun concealing a small bouquet of flowers. She scared me into not telling you about the Organization or Conan-kun’s true identity. I don’t blame her. That girl was really scared. She would panic any time she sensed their presence. Honestly, I was scared too, only better at hiding it. I didn’t want you to ever see me suffering and turning into Conan or get suspicious, discover everything on your own, and get yourself into deep trouble. Sorry again for getting you into this mess.”
“Don’t apologize,” Ran started. “I trust you. I knew you were hurting but couldn’t tell me for some some reason. I waited for the day you’d return and tell me everything face-to-face. When you first left, I’d sometimes think you were out fooling around with other women. But that’s not you. You were pretty close to me before that incident. You, the Deduction Freak, always talking to me about Holmes or the case of the day. Still, you changed since leaving. I sensed it though our phone calls and in Conan-kun.”
He remarked, “Conan was a new experience. I think it provided opportunities. I met the Shonen Tantei-dan, Hattori, Haibara, Akai-san, and so on. I also gained the courage to confess my feelings to you. Anyway, it’s nice to be back. I missed you.”
“I missed you too. I’m glad you’re back. Well, the miso soup is almost ready. Want to help me prepare the table?”
Shinichi replies with a grin, “Sure, Ran-neechan!”
“Here we go again! You can’t get away with your Conan-kun act this time.”
“Haha! I kid, I kid,” Shinichi joked. He smiled in Ran’s direction. “Let’s do this. I’m hungry!”

Day 2: I just called to say I love you
A/N: I have been lately listening to 80's songs and when I heard Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You, I somehow saw ShinRan in this, and when I saw this prompt, I knew I wanted to use this song somehow. Well, here we are :D
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It was a beautiful day. Ran stared out of her room’s window but didn’t really see anything.
She missed him.
Another sunny day and she was alone in her room. She knew that she should shape up and do something nice. She could call Sonoko and talk to her, maybe complain about Shinichi, maybe they could go shopping or somewhere else. Or she could ask Conan-kun to do something with her. She knew that boy was in his and her father’s bedroom reading some book which he brought with him yesterday evening. And since her father was somewhere, who knows where, they could do something, just two of them.
Yet she couldn’t bring herself to stand up.
She missed him.
She really wanted to do something with Shinichi, like before. She would love to go to his house, just spending time with him. She would love to go and make him go outside, maybe they could go watch some movie or eat somewhere or… or…
Whatever would be fine. As long as it would be with Shinichi.
But Shinichi was still gone. Working with some stupid case. Really, she was so ready to travel wherever he was right now, she was so ready to go and help him to solve that case. She wouldn’t mind.
But she would probably just be in a way. She didn’t want that either.
She just needed to be patient, Ran told herself. Shinichi would come home as soon as he was ready. He promised. And he always kept his promises.
It didn’t change the fact that she still missed him.
Her gaze wandered from her table where was a photo of him and her from Kyoto. Then she saw her phone which laid in front of that photo. There wasn’t any sign of message or call.
Where Shinichi was now? What would he do right now? Was he working with his case? Or would he have some free time? Would she interrupt him if she would call him now?
She probably would. But she could always write a mail. Then he would read it as soon as he could, and Ran wouldn’t interrupt his investigation.
Yeah, that would be good.
Ran opened her phone and chose Shinichi’s name. She was ready to type.
But what she wanted to write?
Ran frowned before looked outside the window again. She hadn’t thought that through. She didn’t really have anything to tell. School days have been pretty normal, there wasn’t anything worth mentioning. Her father hasn’t had any interesting cases recently and professor and Detective boys haven’t either got themselves in any troubles. And Ran herself didn’t have any questions for him. Well, she always has, but she had asked those questions so many times that she knew the answers already.
Ran was sad. When has it come to this? Before he disappeared, she didn’t have this kind of trouble. She could always go to his house or call him even though she didn’t have any particular reason to do so. And he never said that she couldn’t do it.
Well, he hasn’t said it now either, but the difference was that he couldn’t always answer because of that case. Well, maybe it was also the reason why Ran has started to think if she could call him without reason or not.
Ran turned her gaze back to her phone. But what would she write? Really, there wasn’t any special day which to use as a reason to write him, no holidays, no any kind of events, no parties, not too hot to remind him to drink enough water and made sure not to get sunstroke, but there were neither other reasons to warn about any kind of weather… Particularly, there was nothing! It was only an ordinary day, nothing more, nothing less.
Yet, there was something which she could tell him. Something she kind of wanted to tell him. Something that didn’t need any particular day or time of year to say it.
Ran started to write, but as soon as she got a message ready, she didn’t send it. When she looked at her mail, it felt wrong.
She looked again out of the window, and she knew that she couldn’t send that message. No. It was something that needs to say out of loud that it would mean something. Well, at least in their case. Sending it… Well, it could work too, but somehow Ran felt that she needed to say it in her own voice. At least this time.
Ran decided to delete that message. Then she searched Shinichi’s phone number and stared at it. But would she still interrupt him? What if he doesn't answer her?
Would it matter? At least she would have tried and maybe he would call back later? Well, it was something that she wanted to say right now and not later, but it couldn’t be helped.
So, she pressed the call button and put the phone to her ear. She waited, and the more she waited, the more anxious she got. After the third beep, she started to wonder if she should forget the whole thing. Shinichi probably got better things to do than listening to his girlfriend’s nagging. In the end, there was some murderer free and sooner Shinichi gets them, better…
“Yo, Ran!”
Ran felt excitement. He answered!
“Shinichi!” she almost shouted. She couldn’t believe how happy she could feel just hearing his voice. “Did… did I call in a bad time?”
“No, it’s fine”, he answered. “Just… taking a little break.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah”, he answered. “Why wouldn’t I?”
“Well, I haven’t heard of you for a while”, she answered and looked out of her window. “I was a little scared if something had happened to you…”
“Come on, Ran, how many times I have to tell you not to worry about me”, Shinichi interrupted.
“If you only call or send mails more often, I wouldn’t have to”, she murmured. “If something happens to you, you can’t write or call then, you know?”
“But I have told you before, haven’t I?” he said. “That I would come back to you even if it kills me.”
“Mou, Shinichi, I want you back alive, not as dead!”
“Well, I’m going to do everything to succeed on that, so don’t worry. Okay?”
Ran smiled shortly. “Okay”, she answered.
Then there was a silence. A few times Ran opened her mouth, but nothing came out. As much as she wanted to talk to him like before, tell him pointless things and all, she didn’t get anything out. She was like a fish trying to get air on the dry land.
But she knew before calling that she really didn’t have anything to talk to him. There was that one thing she wanted to tell him, yet…
“So, why did you call?”
“Wha-“ Ran started and blushed. “I… Did I need to reason to call?”
“Well, you usually do”, he laughed. “But if you don’t, then I think I need to…”
Yeah, there he goes again, thinking about leaving back to his stupid case. She pursed her lips. But she had something to tell him, right? So, if she wanted to say it, it’s now or never.
“Well, I… I… I just…”
Ran closed her eyes while her cheeks felt so warm. How in the world it was so hard to say? Why she was so nervous? It was Shinichi, her childhood friend, her boyfriend, the one whom she had told so many things…
“You just…?”
“I…” Ran took a deep breath. Be brave! “I just called to say I love you!”
She felt how her heart beats in her chest and her cheeks were burning. She waited a little scared of what Shinichi would say. At the same time, he was her boyfriend, so she shouldn’t be scared to say it, but still… The silence made her only more anxious. What if he didn’t feel the same? Though maybe he would have said it already, but… why he doesn’t answer? It felt like forever…
“Shinichi?”
“Why… How did that come to your mind?”
How… It took moment to realise his words.
“Really, Shinichi?” she almost shouted. She was so angry and disappointed. “I just told you how much I care about you and all you can think for an answer is How that came to your mind?”
“Well, usually there is something behind it if you called just for that…”
“Just for that?” Ran repeated. “Just for that?! God, you’re idiot, Shinichi! You barely ever call me! I have been missing you more than I care to admit, sometimes even so much that it even hurts! Yet I try to be patient and give you all the time you need to come back home! And when I call you just because I miss you, because I want to hear your voice and be sure you’re okay… Because I just wanted to tell you I still love you, and all you can think of answer is: you called just for that?!”
“Ran…”
“You know what? Go back to your case, so I can miss you more! Yeah, do that and if you please, try to solve it soon, because I really would love to have you back! And be careful, idiot!”
“Ran, wa-!”
She hung up and almost slammed her phone to the table, but she swallowed her angry enough just to laid it down nicely. Then she crossed her arms and pouted.
God, why Shinichi needed to be like that? He was so an idiot! Didn’t he had any kind of understanding of feelings? Sometimes Ran wondered did he really like her, but still, why otherwise he would have asked her answer in Kyoto?
Her phone started to ring. She looked at it but ignored it. She wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone right now. Whoever the caller was, it would be her father or Sonoko. And she was pretty sure that she wouldn’t like to answer them, not right now. She wasn’t sure if she would like to tell Sonoko about that phone call, not just yet. She would only mock her or saying that she deserves better. And her father wouldn’t understand anyway. He would just laugh, saying something that Shinichi wouldn't care about her enough, maybe telling her to forget him and find someone else.
They wouldn't understand her!
Or maybe they were right...
She felt tears in her eyes. She wanted to ask herself what she even sees in Shinichi, but she knew the answer already. And truth to be told, she felt like nothing could change how she felt for him. Even though she told herself that she didn’t wait much for that phone call, would it be too much to ask to have his answer in his own voice? It would have been the best thing ever to hear him say it to her, it would have eased her pain a little, make her feel a little bit better…
The phone started to ring again. Well, whoever wanted to call her, was persistent. So she leaned forward to get her phone from the table and look who was the caller.
Shinichi?
She grimaced.
Like she wanted to answer to it. She hasn’t relent yet, and she has no intention to do it soon. He deserved that! He can suffer for a while and thought what he said to her!
Like Shinichi would be suffering something like that. He knew that Ran wasn’t unforgiving.
But then, why he tried to call her again? Maybe he was really suffering about this? Maybe he would want to apologize? Maybe…
But somehow it didn’t feel like Shinichi… Maybe Ran just imagine too much?
Ringing stopped. Ran looked at a dark screen, and even though she wanted to sulk a little more, it didn’t felt as good as she was hoping for. Did she really think that she would win something for being angry with someone who was far away and wouldn’t get affected even if Ran wouldn’t be in touch with him in a week or a whole month? So maybe she should stop being childish.
Then it started to ring the third time and Ran took a deep breath. Part of her wanted to answer. Part of her wanted to hear his voice and what he has in his mind. Maybe he wanted really to apologize to her. But then again, it was Shinichi. Ran was pretty sure that Shinichi didn’t even realized or understand why she was upset. Probably he just wanted to ask some favors. Something that he didn’t have time to ask before. And she knew that if that was the case, she would feel much angrier and disappointed.
But maybe they should make up…
The phone went silent again. Ran looked at it before put it down. Well, maybe she should call him later when she had pouted enough and would feel better…
Then there was a beep. Ran looked at her phone before she opened it. Now there was a voicemail from Shinichi. For a moment she wondered if she should open it or not, but she decided to open it.
“Well, there was something I wanted to say before you hung up, but like always, you’re too hasty. And since you’re not going to answer my calls, I… I… I… Just… Love you too, you know.”
As much as Ran tried to be still angry with that detective geek, a smile came to her lips while her cheeks started to burn again. She played it a second time, then third, fourth… And just smiled.
God, here it was again! So much for being angry with him.
Ran smiled mischievously. Well, Shinichi didn’t have to know that.
She made sure to save that voicemail before closed her phone and put it in her pocket. She hymned while left from her room.
“Conan-kun?” she chirped and looked toward her father’s bedroom door. “Do you want to go somewhere with me?”
It took a while before the dark-haired boy opened the door and came out. When he raised his head, Ran gasped.
“Oh, Conan-kun! Are you sick?” she asked and fast went to the boy and touched his forehead. “Your forehead doesn’t feel like hot, but… your face is so red…”
The boy shook his head away from Ran’s touch. “I’m fine”, he murmured looking away from her. “Just… uncle’s room was so hot…”
“Oh”, Ran answered and looked at the room. “Maybe I should open a balcony door a little…”
“No need to”, Conan answered and now looked at her. “By the way, did you wanted to go somewhere?”
Ran started to smile. “Yeah, I thought if we should do something together. Like go to eat something and… and… I don’t know”, she laughed. “Just let’s have some fun together, right?”
Boy didn’t answer and Ran didn’t wait for it. She just went back to her room and took her handbag, making sure that there was everything she needed. Keys, purse… Her phone was in her pocket…
“Ran-neechan? Has something happened?”
“Eh?” Ran asked and turned towards her door. Conan has appeared in there and looked at her with a puzzled look. “What, why is so?”
Boy didn’t answer right away. “Well, you looked a little down earlier, but now you just smile and hymn. So… I’m just curious if something happened?”
Even though she didn’t intend to, her smile just brightened even more. “Well, you can say that”, she answered and then made a cautionary gaze towards him. “But if Shinichi asks something from you, tell him that I’m still angry with him.”
“But Ran-neechan, you don’t look angry”, he said while Ran walked out from her room and wrote a fast note to her dad just in case. Then she turned towards the boy and smiled.
“Well, Shinichi doesn’t have to know it, right?” Then she turned towards the outdoor. “Okay, let’s go, Conan-kun!”
If she would have turned around to look at that boy, she would have seen a very confused look on his face.

Who Won? Shinran!AU
Like we have known, it’s always Ran who waits. It’s always Ran who patiently waits for Shinichi. Of course, technically he was there 24/7 besides her. Now, how about we make it the other way around. What would happen if Shinichi is the one who waits for Ran when she actually always on his side? ---
Shinichi can only stay silent upon seeing Ran’s unconscious body. He touches her hand, making sure to give a sense of warmness to her. She stays still, doesn’t give any response to the man.
It’s been like this, for a long time. Maybe a long time is an understatement as Shinichi feels like it takes forever.
“Why can’t you just open your eyes?”
“Is it funny to you? Are you taking revenge on me?”
“You’re good at waiting, Ran. I know you do. But I’m not. I would rather be losing to you in this game than being hung up to uncertainty.”
He is crazy. He is losing his mind, but who wouldn’t. He never liked being left alone. Not by his parents, not by his friends, and certainly not by his wife.
His beloved wife.
Someone he can’t live without.
Ran has been in this comatose state since that day. The day where she got herself into a car accident. She was pregnant back then, in her last trimester. That day she was going to a market to buy her household needs alone.
She might be pregnant, but to stay still in her place was never been her favorite. She never liked being treated, especially when she was still capable of doing things herself. And somehow, her stubbornness--and selflessness--lead her to this state.
She was happened to see a child almost hit by a child. Her courage told her to do something to prevent that child from misfortune. And she succeeded, that child was safe.
But she didn’t.
The car hit her body and she fell with her head first touched the ground. Ran hissed, it was so painful. But it wasn’t as painful as the pain she had in her stomach. Her baby. Her baby needed to be saved, no matter what it takes.
When a medical team arrived and Ran was still had a grip on herself, she kept mumbling, “Please save my baby,” several times before the darkness took her into a deep deep slumber.
When she arrived at the hospital, she was immediately taken to a surgery room. And that time too, the health workers decided that the baby need to be out quickly or something bad might happen, so that is what they did to her. They were trying their best to save Ran and the baby in her womb.
Kogoro and Eri came as soon as possible after hearing the news about their daughter. It was a good thing they made a phone call with Ran recently, so the one who witnessed the accident didn’t have to buy some time.
As for Shinichi, he was at work that time, investigating another serial killer. His focus cracked as soon as he heard his mother in law telling news about his wife. Shinichi remembered feeling numb, stuck, and shock in his body. He gave no fuck about his work anymore and immediately grabbed his coat and gone to the hospital.
By the time he was there, Ran’s surgery had finished. By the time he was there also, he stumbled upon a newborn infant. His baby. Their baby. He was officially a father now.
“He’s a boy, Shinichi. Congratulations,” said Eri while rubbing his shoulder. Their baby is so small, so tiny, so fragile yet so innocent and so angelic.
You really looked like your mother. Beautiful.
Shinichi could only see him in an incubator and couldn’t carry the baby yet as the baby was too small and needed further care.
It was like calm before storm.
As he moved on from the baby and wanted to know how his wife was holding up, he was hit by the reality that Ran, his wife, had gone into a comatose. And the shitty part is, they couldn’t make sure how long it will be until she opens her eyes again.
Shinichi felt like he wanted to faint if only Kogoro didn’t get a hold of him and knocked some sense to his head.
“Stop it! You can’t be weak. You aren’t allowed to be weak. You have to be strong. You need to be strong. You’re a father now, your baby needs you to be strong. Ran needs you to be strong.”
“—as she always been all this time.”
“—until she comes back again to us.”
And here he is, staying in the hospital next to Ran’s motionless body. She is still hooked to an oxygen mask, covering her beautiful face. Shinichi really hated the view, but still thankful nevertheless. At least she wasn’t in a bad shape anymore.
“Your bandages are being removed and your wounds are healed,” Shinichi mumbles. “So, what are you waiting for? Open your eyes, Ran, please.”
“All you need is to open your eyes.”
“I miss you so much.”

hmmm i'd like to see how desperate they can be. Kiss prompts #14 for shinran, maybee? thankyou 🤟
Thank you for the request! Wanted to do a trope and this is how it turned out. Hope this is an enjoyable read. 💖
14. A kiss so desperate that the two wind around each other, refusing to let go until they are finished. (2,374 words)
.
.
.
In her seventeen years of existence, Mouri Ran has never met a person as infuriating as Kudou Shinichi.
She isn’t a particularly spiteful person. In fact, she’s always so welcoming and positive. Her well-earned reputation in school as the top of her class and her father and mother being one of the best detectives and lawyers in town do not in any way inflate her ego and turn her into an arrogant prick. If any, others spite her, never the other way around. (Though no one - ever - has brought it upon themselves to hate on the ray of sunshine that is Mouri Ran.)
As nice as she may be however, Kudou Shinichi always seems to get on her nerves.
Perhaps the only thing he inherited from the world-famous but humble Kudou Yuusaku and Fujimine Yukiko are their physical attributes. Sharp jawline, charming eyes, straight nose, pearly teeth, prominent Adam’s apple, broad shoulders, lean body…in short, fine. Good-looking. Hot maybe, yes. But she cannot let just that overshadow his absolute cockiness.
For instance, Ran is grateful for people who correct her mistakes, however seldom they may happen, but everytime Shinichi does it - in front of the class, brandishing a proud smirk at the end of it all - she feels the veins on her temple pop. She never cared at first, but when done habitually (and consciously?) by the same person, an underlying urge to punch him straight on the face arises. She knows she is nice but her patience isn’t eternal.
The rational half of her tells her to ignore him, but the petty half of her screams at her to give him a taste of his own medicine. So she revels inwardly at the hooded stare he gives her back whenever she contradicts a portion of his answer in Japanese History class, and restrains her satisfied grin when she corrects his negative integers into positives on the board during Math.
The class takes the toll in this twisted brain battle, because one-on-one debates between the top two students lead to extended fourth period and lesser lunch time. On the bright side, the lazy and unprepared don’t get to recite, so they let the two be.
Their academic tension spills even to athletics. Admittedly, he’s great at soccer, no surprise for an Ace. Her attempts at scoring a goal every time he gate keeps always end in failures, but what irks her more are the deafening screams of his fangirls behind the rails and his annoying wave like he’s some celebrity, beaming proudly like she hasn’t given him a hard time. (She hasn’t.)
But if he has soccer then she has karate. His powerful leg muscles are no match for her deadly roundhouse kicks. Shinichi has begged for his life once - when she has him pinned down between her legs on the floor in front of their classmates for a test of strength. Then he hasn’t brought that up ever again. That’s her win, not that she’s counting. (But really, that’s her win.)
He breathes, she’s annoyed.
When their gaze meets in the hallway, she is tempted to hold it and see if he’ll turn away first.
When he utters her name (“Mouri-san”, husky and sonorous), she wants to utter his back with twice the spite and snark. One that can bite. Tingle. Keep him up at night.
“Sometimes I wonder if you want to kill each other or kiss each other,” her best friend Sonoko brings up during lunch, and that’s just about enough to turn Ran’s mood into sour.
“I do not want to kiss him!” she reacts in a guilty way, and coincidentally they hear a resounding “I do not want to kiss her, barou!” along the corridor, only for Makoto and a grimacing Shinichi to appear on the door frame the next second, and their eyes meet, only to look away immediately.
“Maybe it’s you and Kyougoku-san who want to kiss each other,” Ran says bitterly, attempting to get back at her friend upon seeing her and Makoto exchange knowing glances.
“Mm, yeah maybe we do.” Sonoko grabs a bite of tamago sushi from her bento. Ran rolls her eyes.
“What? At least I’m being honest,” she chides, but Ran is already too engrossed glaring (rather salaciously, in Sonoko’s opinion) back at Shinichi to hear her or even notice her being an audience to their subtle eye makeout.
What do the other girls see in him? He’s a conceited, competitive brat who likes to pit with her for the fun of it. Sonoko says he’s not as annoying as she makes him out to be, which is about the only time she doubts herself because Sonoko does get annoyed easily. But Ran sees Shinichi in the hallway and she recalls the shameless bites and banters and sparring bruises and classroom debates and yep, her blood boils for this lad.
On Valentine’s Day, Ran makes chocolate.
More like, she helps her mother make one for her dad. For everyone’s sake and their stove’s. Since there are excess ingredients, why not? She doesn’t know for whom and why though, she just makes it.
(“Oh, you have a boy in mind?” “None, kaa-san.” “Let me guess, Yukiko-san’s son?” “NO!”)
She’s greeted by girls pooling outside the classroom. Sneaking a peek at the tag of a daintily wrapped box one of the underclassmen holds, she isn’t surprised to read Kudou Shinichi’s name on it. The subject appears behind her, and the girls line up and squeal in glee, and he greets them all while she huffs, not sparing a second look at the commotion as she makes a beeline for her seat.
She doesn’t understand why he always ends up alone with her after class when they both know that’s not the best idea. Their homeroom teacher just cannot read the atmosphere, because this is the third time he’s designated the two as class reps for student affairs work. This time, it’s a campus tour for visiting students. She hates it because she and Shinichi can never agree on anything.
“I’ll sketch the route, you do the tour,” she says.
“No, you do the hosting, I do the planning,” he counters.
“Aren’t you better at talking?” Ran sneers, remembering the chaos of fangirls and all annoying flowery words he’s probably said back. “Or don’t tell me it’s just the confidence and charm overcompensating for the lack of substance?”
“I can plan and I can host well, but I do the planning now ‘cause I did the talking in our presentation last time while you rested at the back and let me do the bulk of the task but thanks,” he rises from his seat and leans his body on the desk next to her, “for thinking that I’m charming.”
“I didn’t— I wasn’t—!” Ran’s cheeks heat up in fury or embarrassment or both. “I’m just saying this task is the best time to utilize your charisma!”
“But aren’t you charismatic yourself, Mouri-san? As expected from the daughter of a lawyer mother and a detective father?”
“No- I mean, yes, whatever, but we need charm and-”
“And I have it? What do I say? Is this your roundabout way of making me admit that you’re charming too?”
“I wouldn’t do anything like that, baka!”
He holds her challenging gaze, long and hard.
“In any case, I refuse. I plan the routes.”
“No, I plan the routes, you do the talk. No ifs. No buts.”
“This is just a simple assignment, Mouri-san! Why can’t we agree for once?” he snaps, stepping forward.
“Exactly! This is just a simple task, Kudou-kun! Why do you have to be so overbearing?” She steps forward.
“I am not overbearing. You are!”
“No, you are! You’re the hardest to deal with! I can’t even stand being near you! You’re the absolute worst! You’re—”
And then he’s hovering over her, sealing her lips shut with his own.
It happens lightning fast. He's in a respectful distance one second and then he’s hogged all her space and claimed her lips the next. Her heart rate has already gone up at the start of the bicker but now it’s literally flown off the charts.
“Kudou-kun—!” Ran gasps when her back hits the wall of the classroom, disconnecting their lips for a second. “I’m... not done...speaking—”
“And we’re not done kissing,” Shinichi angles his head for another searing kiss and that is enough to turn Ran into a puddle of melted flesh in his arms. Doomed they will be if students outside the window look up their floor and catch her back pressed suspiciously against the glass with his body the only thing keeping her upright. She can only pray they won’t. Because she doesn’t push him away.
Maybe she doesn’t care so much about being seen? Or maybe she doesn’t have the mind to think of anything else when his scent and his taste and his touch take over her senses and it still isn’t enough. This she realizes as her hands cup his warm cheeks to deepen the pressure of their connected lips, both red and swollen from the fiery mutual exchange. She kisses him with no intention of stopping. She kisses him like she’s making up for the moments her subconscious wanted to but didn’t. The tightening arms around her waist and desperate push of tongue in her are all she needs to understand that Shinichi must be thinking the same thing.
(“Mouri-san,” he sighs in her mouth. “Mm, Kudou-kun,” comes her lush reply.)
Only when she feels herself blacking out from lack of oxygen - or the fact that she feels hands untucking the hem of her school uniform from her skirt - does she unconsciously push his chest away, giving them an inch of space.
Stunned and breathless, they separate with the thought that what they share may have been too much for a first kiss. Achievers always aim for too much; anything less and they die. Too much is always too good.
For a first kiss, theirs is pretty characteristic.
“Huh.” She utters low. Any sound will do to kill the awkward silence that has stretched on for too long.
“Well.” He speaks, a little strained, but coughs his throat clear and gets himself together. “If you may...continue with what you’re saying, Mouri-san.”
For someone who’d just kissed her heatedly in an empty classroom in the middle of an argument and was so close to successfully getting his hands under her shirt, Ran is pretty impressed at how he manages to remain courteous in addressing her.
“Y-You’re the absolute worst,” arms still wrapped around his neck, she begins, but doesn’t remember what she’s supposed to say next. All coherent thought has flown out the window when his lips meet hers five minutes ago. She has no choice but to rely on the power of impromptu speech. Like Shinichi said, she’s good at that, kind of. He can probably hear her pulse palpitating on her wrist as she speaks.
“You’re...You’re such an airhead and you think so highly of yourself just because you have so many fangirls. Kuroba-kun or Hattori-kun from the other class are better and much more handsome than you, would you believe? You’re not the only charming guy in this school, Kudou-kun! And you don’t have to correct my flimsy academic mistakes in front of the class for a moment of schadenfreude, damn it! You annoy me to no end! I was this close to giving you my chocolate but good thing I didn’t because you know what? You’re annoying. Truly. You’re so full of yourself and I don’t like you for that and, y-you’re annoying and...and gods I hate you so much I’ll kiss you to death—”
She’s ready to tiptoe but his hands on her waist hold her still.
“What?!” she snaps, not sure where she’s more pissed at, the guy she’s about to kiss or the guy she’s about to kiss stopping her from kissing him again.
(A third option is herself but she’s already established her seething self-loathe when she chose to kiss him back.)
“I-I should be asking that, Mouri-san, what?” he stammers over her lips. “I... Give me your chocolate.”
Ran blinks, partly confused, partly surprised. She tries to comprehend how that is a proper response to whatever she just said (which by now, she’s already forgotten - or at least, in the process of forgetting).
“Give me your chocolate and I’ll eat it even though the chocolates I make with mom surely taste better but I’ll take what you made for me anyway. Don’t even get me started about how much I think it’s funny that you’re thinking about me as you make your chocolate, I mean, wow, there’s always that possibility, but still, wow. I-” he catches his breath, continues, “I’ll give you a better one on White Day. So please give me your chocolate.”
She doesn’t know what to make of the string of words that spew right out his mouth, but she can feel her face tightening to a grimace. Surely now, she knows she’s better at impromptu speech than him.
“You really expect me to give you my chocolate after you insult me? Wow, you really are an ass!” she shouts, as if she hasn’t mocked him the same.
“An ass who’s rejected every single chocolate given him except for one,” he says. His gaze locks her eyes, then her lips, then her eyes again. “And he’s even begging for that one chocolate, how ridiculous is that.”
Ran holds her breath, feels her face burn from his blazing irises.
“You don’t say-”
“I do say.”
His lips twist mischievously, too handsome for her heart to take.
“And you did say something else a while ago. Something equally interesting.” He cranes his head lower. “You said you hate me to death?”
Ran feels her toes tipping to balance.
“...Yes,” she lets go of his nape, hands sliding down to the plane of his chest and crumpling his shirt in her fists. “I hate you so, so much.”
“Oh by all means,” he leans in to swoop her lower lip gently between his teeth, smirks as he pulls it for a soft tug, “hate me all you want.”

Hellooo :D first I want to wish you can go through whatever problems you have right now :) I read your post about opening prompts request, I have two ideas, and it's up to you to write one of them or both. First is KaiAo fic about Kaito got a fever then being nursed by Aoko, and the later is ShinRan comforted Sonoko coz she was bullied about being rich maybe ^^;. Thanks for reading my request, hope it's not that much ^^. Just take your time, and I leave it to you for the rating :)
Thanks :) I know it’s been a while. Apologies for the late response; it’s been a heck of a year. I decided on KaiAo, G. There’s an additional E chapter on the ao3 version. This prompt is part of my Black & Blue series, which is an examination of Kaito and Aoko’s friendship year by year starting from age 4.
This is year 17 - Blue.
Also on Tumblr, year 16 - Shame
—————————————————————–
Kaito certainly doesn’t need Aoko to wait up, worried for him, on nights that he has a heist.
But she does anyway.
He’s not the only one she’s worried about. Her father’s out there too; they’re facing each other constantly, and it’s even more nerve-racking that a third enemy exists in the rare gunmen that show up at the heists.
She knows that Kaito wouldn’t hurt her father for her sake. Not on purpose. She doesn’t have that same assurance from her father. He had fired his gun on Kaito, that one time, and the things he says about him—
Not to mention the hazy way Kaito had gone through the school day, fighting fatigue. She’d invited him over for dinner, and he’d made his excuses as she knew he would, but she’d exacted a promise from him to come over as soon as he returned. It’s a heist night. Her dad is most likely out drinking with the task force and won’t be back home for a very long time, so she wanted the company.
Kaito would never have to know that she watched the heist on the television and cheered for Kid in the private sanctity of her home.
A knock on the door has her looking up from her homework.
Kaito, right on time.
Well, maybe not on time, but he keeps his promises in the little ways that matter, like a fireworks show on her birthday.
Or showing up after a heist so she can make sure he’s alright.
She opens the door for him and he's standing there in his rumpled uniform.
“Welcome back,” Aoko says warmly, and he stares at her for a long moment, vaguely puzzled.
Aoko frowns. He looks dead on his feet, his skin is flushed, more than it should be, and so she steps into his space and places the back of her hand on his cheek, and then his forehead.
“Kaito, you have a fever!” she says, and she pulls him into the house and sits him down on the sofa. Perhaps the greatest indication he isn’t feeling well is he lets her.
She bustles around, doing a half a dozen things at once: making him an ice pack, adding some stock to the leftover rice in the cooker, grabbing a spare blanket to wrap around his shoulders, taking his temperature and finding it higher than it should be. It isn’t until she puts the okayu in front of him he seems to come back to himself.
"Aoko?"
"Finally," she tsks, and nudges the tray she'd set on the table towards him, filled with food and some cold water and hot honey yuzu tea and medicine.
He stares at her.
"Well? Eat," she says.
He's still staring. He really must not feel well.
"Thanks, Aoko," he says finally.
"The medicine is supposed to reduce fevers," she says. "You need to eat something, though. Have you even eaten anything today?" she asks.
Kaito has to think about it. "...No."
Aoko lets out a sigh and slides the tray further towards him.
Kaito starts eating his food without complaint, blinking heavily. He almost nods off several times; Aoko's afraid at one point he'll face plant into his bowl. But she directs him gently, and he finishes almost everything, then yawns so hard he cracks his jaw.
Aoko's honestly not certain how he's up and moving around. This isn't just tiredness, it's exhaustion. She'd noticed how Kid seemed just the slightest bit sluggish (and then only because she knew Kaito), but she hadn't thought it'd been that bad.
Idiot. Always pushing himself so hard. He didn't have anything he needed to prove.
She doesn't think it's sickness, at least not in the traditional sense. Stress and fatigue can cause fevers too, the body's sign it's been worked too hard.
And yet he still came over for her.
Tenderness wells up inside her. How sweet of him, really.
She decides to make a bed on the couch for him. She grabs a spare pillow to go with the blanket she already has, then sits down and tugs at his uniform. He follows her unspoken directions to pull it off until he's left in his undershirt and boxers.
She folds his uniform, puts it to the side, then she leans over, checking his forehead again to see if his fever has gone down, and Kaito wraps an arm around her waist.
Aoko blushes and pulls away, but Kaito won't let her go. Admittedly, she doesn't try that hard.
"Kaito?" she asks.
He's fallen asleep. She pokes him a few times, just to make sure he's really asleep, then Aoko shifts, leans her head against his chest.
He's warm, it's cozy, and honestly, Aoko is more than a little sleepy herself. His heartbeat thuds in his chest, and it's so comforting.
Little by little, it lulls her to sleep.

Soooooo if it's no trouble for you, Shinran for Arranged Marriage AU Modern?
A/N~ Of course it's no trouble!!! And I am so sorry! I know you sent this in like forever ago and have likely forgotten about it! I hope you enjoy though!
Modern~ Person A's family is in debt. Person B is the debt collector but asks for marriage instead.
oOo
This was definitely not how Ran envisioned getting engaged. She'd argue that every girl daydreamed about their wedding at least once in their life and Ran was no different.
She always thought she'd go off to college and meet some nice boy. They would start out as friends first and then they'd slowly move on to actual dates. Ran would bring him to meet her parents and her father would actually approve of him. Her mother would be best friends with her boyfriend's. And then said boyfriend would propose and they'd have a gigantic wedding with a huge cake, big dress, and every relative she could think of would be in attendance.
Sadly, those were all just dreams. Things she imagined when she had a crush or ideas that spurred when she was engrossed in an especially romantic novel. Of course as she grew older her expectations sort of mellowed out. She definitely still wanted the traditionally grand ceremony but she had to add a tad of reality to it.
Standing in a soft pink dress that could barely even be considered business casual as she watched her fiance sign his name on the marriage certificate, Ran took the time to let her gaze wander. Taking in the blandly colored walls of the courtroom was as far as she could get without wanting to cry. That and her fiance was already straightening before angling the pen to her expectantly.
She hesitated. She knew he saw it but Ran couldn't help it. Just like she couldn't conceal the small look of disdain she gave the pen he was trying to hand to her. Her movements slow, she accepted the offering. Her fiance's shoulders sagging in what looked like relief made her think he half expected her to refuse to sign.
It was tempting. But she already argued it was time to face reality. And staring at the paper on the stand before her, she paused again. Ran hoped it appeared like she was just reading over the document but really, she was just trying to delay the inevitable. Her eyes remained unseeingly on the still blank line where her signature was supposed to go.
Ran thought she'd be sick. She didn't think she could do this. There wouldn't be any turning back once she put her name on that paper. Not only was it the contract of their marriage, it would also serve as the contract for the agreement they had come to.
If she signed this certificate, her father's debt would be repaid. If she did this her parents would at least have a chance at restarting their life. Granted she wouldn't be apart of it as much but the point was that they'd have it.
But still, Ran couldn't help but hesitate. She could play it off and lie to herself. She could put the blame on the fact she was scared. It was not much to go on but she was by no means the first arranged marriage. And they very rarely ended happily. The documentaries that were borderline like horror stories to her that she used to always watch on crime shows, were evidence of that. And again, even if that was a very plausible excuse, she knew it wasn't the truthful one. The real one wasn't even because she was disappointed in Kudou-san's looks. Selfishly, her mind flickered to the three tiered cake and the gorgeous chapel.
Swallowing hard she knew she'd have to let go. She'd have to let go of that daydream. She had to come to terms that this was her reality.
So silencing her screaming thoughts as best she could, Ran signed her name.
oOo
Ran didn't know exactly what her expectations had been one she moved in with her . . husband? She didn't really like referring to him like that though. It felt odd to call him anything else but his surname. Especially when he didn't even treat her like she was his wife. Again, Ran didn't really know what to expect but having her own bedroom wasn't one of them.
Of course she wasn't complaining. It was just. . . a surprise. . Ran may of never dated before but she had heard of wifely duties before. Not that she liked to call them that but that was honestly what it would be. There was no benefit to this marriage for her specifically and logically she had to assume that would be one of the things Kudou-san asked of her.
None of the talks she had with her mother the night before all of this would've ever prepared her for what did happen. And that was nothing. Nothing happened. They arrived at what he liked to call a house but to her and the average citizen, was a mansion. He helped her carry her one bag into the house while giving her a brief explanation of where everything was. And then he had shown her to her room and promptly turned around and walked out the door- her door.
Not wanting to lower her guard too soon, she half expected him to come into her room at night. Which he didn't. He didn't do anything with her. He didn't really talk to her in general and as the days passed by she realized he never was. And Ran didn't know what to do with that. She couldn't fathom why he would ask for her hand in marriage if he didn't even want that from her. This had all been his idea after all and to just completely ignore her, Ran didn't understand what exactly her purpose was in all of this.
The house- it frightened her quite a bit in the beginning. It was so massive and felt so empty. It was so quiet that sometimes all she could hear were the pipes in the walls and the house settling. Sometimes when it felt like it was so still that her ears would start ringing, she'd have to plug in her headphones. It was only when she finally gained the courage to leave her bedroom that she realized just why it was so quiet.
Kudou-san was hardly ever in the house. The first few days she was still paranoid and would outright look for him. She didn't want to be startled by him suddenly reprimanding her for wandering around wherever she pleased. But after she had the bright idea to just check for his car in the driveway, more often than not, it was not there. With that, she also learned when to expect him. The sound of his front gate opening would alert her most of the time after she had already eaten dinner. And like the coward she was, she'd take that as her cue it was time for bed.
So it was safe to say that her husband was a very busy person and honestly, she didn't feel the need to find out what for. It was probably for the better that he was more occupied with work rather than her. She didn't like being alone and missed her friends and family terribly. But here in this new home with her. . husband, she didn't know what the alternative would be if she disrupted this set routine with him. Besides, he didn't sound like he wanted anything to do with her anyway. And since he was the one that asked for this engagement, she'd argue that it was up to him to reach out first. And since that never happened one could probably imagine how much time she had on her hands.
It wasn't long before she finally took it upon herself to make a list of duties that she needed to do. If she sat in this house all day and did absolutely nothing but listen to music and read, she'd lose her mind. So she swept the floors and mopped them. She wiped down all of the windows and cleaned out his fridge. She even dusted his entire library which was ridiculous because who even had a library in their house? Still, ignoring that, she did it.
The chores she gave herself were boring and tedious. They were often long jobs that were unusually strenuous but honestly, that's what she preferred. Anything to take her mind off her current situation- or lack there of. Everyday she would come up with something new though. His 'house' was massive and really, she was cleaning a different room on each day. That's how she discovered where most things were anyway. Admittedly he had told her briefly when he was helping her move in but she'd also admit she hadn't been paying attention. Ran hadn't been expecting her marriage to be so . . . quiet. At the time she had been preparing herself for the worst mentally.
Now, and though she wasn't necessarily at ease, she was calm enough to actually breathe properly. This was how she discovered his library. She found the laundry room so she could finally do a load of clothes. Ran even discovered he had an office. It looked like he usually spent his time in there though she quickly left. She highly doubted he would be pleased if he found her in there. Likely he'd assume she was snooping.
Since Kudou-san was rarely home however, it was difficult to guess what areas of his house were off limits. His room of course would've been a given. But everything looked so untouched; like the house was barely lived in.
That was the excuse she would give when explaining how she mistakenly stumbled in there. She was being honest when she said it wasn't for a good few minutes till she realized where she was at. The room was massive like everything in this house. But much like the guest rooms, the walls were barren. There weren't pictures on the walls or items on the shelves. It didn't look lived in to say the least. It wasn't till she finally set her eyes on the bed and took notice of how the sheets were thrown to the side and unkempt.
Like someone had been sleeping there.
Feeling her heart lodge in throat, she quickly took some steps back before going to leave. And stumbling over herself she ran right into something. From her surprise and shock, her hands had come up to brace her fall. That was when she really realized what she ran into.
It was a chest. A beating, warm, and very firm chest.
Hands jerking back to her sides, she quickly moved a pace away from him to give both of them some space. She knew before looking that it was Kudou-san. They were the only two that lived here after all. She was usually pretty good at sneaking back to her room before he came home but it honestly wasn't that late into the day yet. He was earlier than usual.
"Did you-?"
Before he could even finish his sentence she was cutting him off.
"I'm sorry!" she said hurriedly holding her hands up defensively. "I didn't realize this was your room until I saw the bed! I was only trying to clean up a little!" Ran prayed that her words sounded believable. The last thing she wanted was for her husband to think she was digging through his things. It was such an invasion of privacy already and she hoped he could tell how apologetic she was.
Kudou-san didn't appear to be angry though. If anything, he looked a little confused. "You know this is your house too. . . . right?" he asked her slowly while giving her a pointed look. A look that she understood now was asking why she was apologizing. When her eyes suddenly watered a bit, he suddenly looked frustrated. Shaking his head, he turned around and went to leave his own room. "You can go wherever you'd like," he threw over his shoulder and some of that irritation leaked into his voice.
It was only once he left that she realized she was actually shaking. She knew she had been nervous well before her eyes began to fill with tears. But she hadn't noticed just how scared she actually was of his response. Kudou-san didn't look like the violent type but looks could be deceiving. And though they were married she didn't really know him or what he was capable of. Hand coming to rest over her heart in attempt to soothe it, she took deep breaths.
Maybe he noticed her reaction before she did herself. He seemed angrier about that than her standing in his bedroom without permission.
oOo
Though she actually had his permission to go wherever she pleased, it didn't mean Ran took advantage of it. Going into his bedroom had been an accident. She didn't want it to seem like it had been anything but that.
But she did try to come out of her room more often. She stopped hiding out any time she saw his car pull through the gate out front. She stopped trying to plan her sporadic dashes to the kitchen when he was home. Ran stopped trying to dance around him.
They still didn't really talk. He at least acknowledged her which arguably, if she had come out sooner he would've done that before. And the mansion didn't feel like a home to her yet by any means, but at least she could actually walk around without her veins thrumming with adrenaline as if she were in some horror movie.
She finally started cooking again. It was something she had to do when living with her parents but had soon turned into a hobby for her. Ran was often told she was good at it and it made her feel better, so she enjoyed it. And though he never asked her to, she always made enough for him. Pulling the trash as part of her chores she took upon herself, it was impossible for her not to notice all the takeout bins. She was pretty sure that was what he ate all the time and she couldn't help but be appalled. Fast food was fine and all occasionally- occasionally being the key word.
Technically even though it didn't feel like it, she was his wife. Wasn't it normal to cook food for your husband? That and he erased her father's debt- but she liked the first excuse better. Ran didn't really know much about the reasoning circling around her father's debt. She had only been given an offer to get rid of it so of course she accepted wholeheartedly. And she would never want Kudou-san to go back on his word.
So she made him dinner. It wasn't like she left a mess. She always cleaned up after herself and would simply leave it in a rubber-maid container on the kitchen island for him to notice right away. That and she left him a note. It didn't say anything extensive. All she did was write his name so that he knew it was in fact for him. She didn't want him to think she left it out by mistake.
The first time she did it for him though, her mind had immediately regretted it. It wasn't till she was sitting in her room that first night that she took the time to think about how forward of her that was. She had no idea what Kudou-san liked to eat anyway. He very well could just throw it out. And what was she thinking leaving him a note like that? That was something she had seen her mother do for her father on the rare occasion that the woman attempted to prepare anything for him. But those notes were usually tagged with a heart. Something far more intimate than what she had in mind.
Suddenly her anxiety hit the roof. The implication of what she just did had her face engulfed in heat. Just when her second thoughts were getting the best of her she was going to put the food away herself, she noticed the headlights of his car as it pulled into the gate. It had been too late and like the coward she was, she she didn't dare to leave her room again for the rest of night. She even turned off her lights and got into bed on the off chance that Kudou-san did come looking for her.
He didn't. He hadn't even come anywhere near her door. He had them on the same floor but on completely opposite sides of the house, she had learned the other day from her little accident. It relieved her that he didn't come knocking though. Ran had been preparing an excuse for why she made him dinner until it became glaringly obvious that he wasn't going to ask. More at ease now, that's what began her routine of making him his afternoon meal. And he never had a word that was gratitude nor a complaint to give. At that point she expected him to forget about it.
Upon waking up to get breakfast a few days later however, she noticed that Kudou-san obviously hadn't forgotten it. There was a box on the kitchen island, on the spot she generally left his dinner. As she got closer she realized it was a cell phone still in it's packaging. And like what she had left him, it came with a note on the top only saying her name.
At first Ran didn't know what to do with it. She was mostly shocked by the obvious gift Kudou-san had left her. The obviously expensive gift. But even more obvious from why she married him, she knew that buying a brand new phone wouldn't even make a dent in his finances. Still, normally Ran would've been uncomfortable accepting such a gift. But she also recognized this as a way for him to pay her back for making him his meals. To not accept it would be incredibly rude and she knew she'd offend him.
The first person she called was her mother. Admittedly she wanted to speak with her father instead but apparently he had been out. Still she was ecstatic to get a hello from anybody and her mom was just as thankful to finally hear from her. Leaving out why exactly her husband bought her the phone, she explained that it was Kudou-san who had given it to her. And though it was a talk she didn't really want to revisit with her mother, she knew the woman would be concerned if she didn't bring it up.
"Kudou-san is. . . kind," she finally settled on that. They rarely interacted but off the sparse times they did, that's the impression she got from him.
"Ran." Her mother's tone was sharp and warning and it had her tensing in her seat. "People like him never give something for nothing; not when they can put a price on everything. Never forget that."
Ran knew what her mom was trying to tell her then. To get her head out of the clouds and come back to that reality she was always trying to escape. That eventually Kudou-san would expect something from her in return. And though she still wanted to stand by her comment that her husband wasn't really all that bad, she couldn't argue. Because her mother was right. The gift that had seemed so generous only came to her because she had done something kind in return. It was a response to her.
But still, and thinking back, she was reminded of his response when she had been terrified of being caught in his bedroom. He had been irritated, yes- but only because she clearly expected that. And that told her enough. That he didn't want her to have an ill opinion of him. And if he cared about what she thought of him, then that must've meant- to some extent, that he cared about her.

Why I ship Coai instead of Shinran
I love detective Conan and all characters including Ran and some parts of Shinran too
But there's an obvious reason that I have seen no one really talks about and I'm surprised tbh. Ran treats Conan like a literal brother, she sees him like a younger brother. In her mind Shinichi and Conan are different people. Imagine coming to know that the person who you consider and is basically a little bro, a little kid is the same as your crush. And Shinichi never shared this secret with his supposedly best friend(i know there's reasons blah blah blah). But I think all of this is so unfair towards Ran. And shipping her with someone for whom she feels like a brotherly type of love is low-key uncomfortable to me to say the least.
If only Conan and Shinichi were different people. (that's like the main dilemma of the whole fandom on the shipping issue)
I know that lives will be in danger but Shinichi should have told her from the start or at least sometime after if he really trusted her that much and cherished her, why was he hesitant for her to see his true side, like boy you are dreaming of marrying her but can't tell her that(so the angst in shinran seems superficial/forceful to me and the nature of their bond seems like some surface-level friendship, no hate guys)
Two points I want to make clear and make in my argument :-
1) don't argue that he did that because Haibara told him:- he literally ignores her warnings 90 percent of the time and is such a do what he wants and thinks kind of person. So no this is HIS decision, he has made a choice not to tell her(it ain't right or wrong but speaks volumes of their bond)
2) He shares secrets and things and is himself around Haibara and she knows him so well and things about him : OK SHE IS A LITERAL B.O. MEMBER, EX member to be exact but recall the moment that they met, he was highly suspicious of her at first and later warmed up to her(because she showed her real self-that whole crying clinging to his shirt asking why he didn't save her sis scene), he took a risk and began to trust her. IF HE CAN HAVE THAT LEVEL OF TRUST FOR SOMEONE FROM AN ORGANIZATION THAT TRIED TO KILL HIM WHY NOT RAN He showed his vulnerabilities to Haibara and vice versa-they know about each others real selves

The Same Old You: The Morning After
PREVIOUS CHAPTER
Title: The Same Old You
Chapter 6 : The Morning After
Author: Jaroslav Lewis
Fandom: Detective Conan
Pairing: ShinRan with slight KazuHei
Summary: Time has passed for them to believe that they have changed only for them to realize that some things haven't. Some things just don't.
Chapter Summary: Mornings can get a little messy.
Disclaimer: I don't own Detective Conan and any of Gosho Aoyama's characters. I simply borrow them when I'm bored.
Warning: Nudity and mentions of sex.
AN. The whole inspiration/mood music for this chapter is "No Place" by Backstreet Boys. I recommend you guys listen to it if you haven't already.
The sun rays hit his face, causing him to stir in his sleep, waking his senses. He keeps his eyes closed for a moment until the weight of something resting on his arm catches his attention. Soon enough his eyes flutter open. His vision adjusts to the brightness of his surroundings. He fails at stretching since his right arm is pretty much restricted. He turns his head and he sees her, or at least a view of her bare back in front of him. Her head is comfortably resting on his outstretched arm, causing it to go numb but it doesn't bother him. He turns his body, shifting to a position where he is facing her side of the bed. He smiles to himself as her remembers last night's events.
It's not a dream...
He stares at the smooth, fair skin of her back, admiring its pleasant view as he tries to resist the urge to touch her again because he doesn't want to wake her. He fails at it as he closes the distance, wrapping his arm around her bare waist, sneaking underneath the covers to pull her against him. He feels her skin on skin, her back pressing against his chest.
'I could get used to mornings like this…' He thinks to himself as he leans closer to plant a gentle kiss on her shoulder, feeling the softness of her bare skin against his lips.
Such action causes her to stir in her sleep, muttering an incoherent sound as she shifts her position while still in her slumber. She turns and she is now facing him, but her eyes remain closed. Her disheveled hair is covering her face.
He chuckles to himself, remembering just how much of a heavy sleeper she is as he has noticed when he lived with her as Conan. He brings his hand up to brush the hair covering her face. He tucks them in her ear, carefully and brushes his fingers delicately against her cheek. He takes in the sight of her long, dark lashes, her pointed nose and her plump, pinkish lips that he so badly wants to kiss as though he hasn't had enough of her, considering last night's events.
He runs his fingers through her hair, stroking her lovingly. This causes her to stir again. She moves closer to him, pressing her cheek against his bare chest as she stretches her arm to hug him while she is still fast asleep. He listens to her soft breathing, feeling her inhale and exhale against his body. He stays still to make sure she is comfortable even though he is not so.
Suddenly, he is reminded of how Ran tends to be such a hugger, given that she sleeps with so many pillows and stuffed toys around her. He also remembers very well how there were a number of times when he slept beside her as Conan and how he woke up with her arm around him.
His face heats up in the slightest embarrassment but he savors her warmth and the feeling of her, embracing him in the most intimate way he could ever think of. He can't help but feel giddy at the thought.
He wishes to stay with her in such way for as long as they both can but she suddenly moves again, this time gradually waking to her senses at the peculiar feeling of the pillow she is embracing.
She keeps her eyes shut for a moment, still feeling the heaviness of her lids and the need to keep them closed for a while as her consciousness starts to kick in. She notices that her pillow isn't as soft as she normally prefers it to be, but she doesn't find it too disturbing. In fact, she loves how warm it is against her.
But there is something else that bothers her. She realizes that for some odd reason…
Her pillow seems to be breathing with her…
She tilts her head up and her eyes flutter open. The first sight she sees are his gentle cerulean eyes bearing into hers. It takes a moment for her to register the thought of why she is in bed with him. Flashback of last night's events come rushing to her head. Her face heats up in embarrassment.
She is at loss for words.
"Good morning, Ran…" He greets her, his voice sounding a little bit deeper, a little bit hoarse since he just woke up, and very much…
Sexy…
It sends shivers down her spine.
'God, his morning voice…' She thinks to herself, still in a daze as the melodic sound of his voice echoes in her head, making goosebumps creep to her skin and making her cheeks heat up even more than it already has since she woke up.
"Something wrong?" He asks worriedly because of her lack of response and at the same time, noticing that she has been staring at him for quite some time. Such question wakes her to her senses and at the same time almost makes her head explode at the alluring sound of his just-woke-up voice.
"No… Nothing!" She squeaks out defensively. Jolting from her comfortable, lying position. Suddenly she is wide awake and she remembers to pull the covers up to her chest modestly as she sits up straight. A little voice in the back of her head tells her that such action was useless since he had already seen her.
All of her.
Plenty of times.
And the one from last night was the clearest view that he has of her, that she has allowed him to see.
Her heart throbs rapidly in panic as she scans the room for her clothes. She notices how far apart they are scattered. She silently scolds herself for causing such inconvenience for both of them.
Shinichi observes her worriedly, but does not say a word as he sits straight. Ran avoids his gaze, feeling herself burn with the intensity of how he has set his eyes on her unguarded, disheveled self.
"I should probably leave… Y'know. Sonoko and Sera might be looking for me." She rambles, shifting to slide her legs down the bed. Shinichi is startled but he scrambles, under the covers with her.
"Hey, wait…" He says in panic. He moves swiftly and impulsively does the first thing the comes through his mind. He wraps his arms around her possessively in a back hug which causes Ran to flinch, surprised by his sudden display of skin ship. She sits still but relaxes with how nice and warm his embrace felt.
"Stay…" He whispers into her ear, his breath tickling her bare skin. She shivers under his touch. She feels him place a soft kiss on her neck and shoulder. Suddenly, all panic is lost and she finds herself nodding to him.
"Okay…" She breathes quite heavily. He plants a soft kiss on the top of her head and lightly pulls away.
"I'll get you something to wear. You can shower here too, if you'd like. Then we'll have breakfast. I'll just call for room service…" He offers, wanting to make her feel comfortable. He understood, Ran is in a state of shock and though he knew they were both well aware of their actions last night, everything happened all too sudden and the aftermath of it all is quite a mess, both literally and figuratively.
Ran calms her nerves at the soothing sound of his voice, bringing herself back to reality.
"That would be nice. Thank you…" She tells him and feels him pull away. Soon, she feels his weight leaving the bed. She remains still, sitting with her back facing him. She doesn't look at him but she listens at the sound of the ruffling sheets and clothing. She could tell that he is getting ready to dress up and she feels her face heat up in embarrassment.
She feels movement on the bed as he stands up to get dressed. Ran sits still, reminding herself to avert her gaze from him whilst thinking about how she is going to dress herself without him looking. She sees her dress still in a pool at the ground, just where she left it. Her strapped heels are in polar directions having been kicked off of her feet last night. Thinking about retrieving her things gives herself a massive headache.
But it gets even worse as she remembers that she is missing another article of clothing that is practically irretrievable at this point, given its condition.
Ran wanted to scream.
Then she feels a soft pat on the shoulder, followed by the feeling of something being wrapped around her. She realizes that it is a bathrobe. She turns to find Shinichi behind her, already dressed in his grey sweatpants and black wife beater.
He smiles and hands her a neatly folded set of clothes.
"You can change in these." He says. Ran simply nods, completely stunned and touched by such gesture. He settles the set of clothes-his clothes on the edge of the bed and turns his back to her, giving her time to slip into the bathrobe.
She wraps the piece of clothing around her and ties a secure knot before taking his clothes with her as she tiptoes to the bathroom.
Shinichi snaps from his reverie as he hears the door shut.
He shakes his head thinking to himself how awkward the aftermath of last night's events turned out to be.
Ran keeps her back pressed against the bathroom door for a few seconds, right in front of her is the bathroom vanity with a luxurious marble sink and a clean shiny mirror that allows her to see her reflection clearly.
She cringes, looking at her face, seeing her lipstick quite smudged, her mascara flaking under her eyes. She remembers clearly how she had forgotten to take off her makeup last night. Well, considering last night's events, who wouldn't right?
She shakes her head, telling herself that such mistake could be totally bad for her skin.
Ran always had good skin. She is very much thankful for the good genes she inherited from her mother, but of course she is also careful enough to maintain it, especially with her age.
But more than that, she couldn't help but feel embarrassed. Shinichi just saw her in such a messy state. Though they have practically always been transparent with each other, given their history, this was one side of her she felt uncomfortable letting him see.
Shinichi is her best friend, but he was also once her boyfriend.
She is a lady and he is a man.
Not just any man too. He is a man who has always had a special place in her heart.
Shinichi never minded how she looks, but she liked looking presentable in front of him.
She is pissed. He is so flawless, always has been and always will be. He looks so fine despite the fact that he woke up with his hair sticking up in different directions. She couldn't help but feel insecure, waking up next to him in such state.
She takes more time to observe herself in front of the mirror. She slightly slides the bathrobe off of her shoulder and she notices a trail of small but evident reddish marks running from her neck to her shoulders and down to her chest.
She recalls the feeling of his touch, his kisses. There was no doubt that he knew what he was doing and that he seemed quite experienced. The way he was so aggressive but also gentle that he could make her feel weak.
There was no denying the possibility. Shinichi is a grown man after all, a charming one for the matter and New York is filled with beautiful blonde and brunette bombshells.
Ran can't help but wonder where she stands in that.
After last night's events, she wonders what she is to him, now? What is he to her? What are they exactly?
And come to think of it, Shinichi never said anything last night. As far as she is concerned, no promises were even made, were there?
"I guess this is as good as it's gonna get." She sighs to herself as she observes herself in the mirror again.
Her hair is wet, fresh from the shower. She is now clad in his dark blue, UCLA hoodie and shorts. Both of which are a little loose but still comfortable to wear. The hoodie was too long that it covered most of the shorts, almost acting like a dress instead of a top.
She hugs the hoodie to body, feeling the softness of the fabric, inhaling his familiar scent.
'I guess this isn't so bad after all.' She thinks to herself, finally deciding to step out of the bathroom.
She takes small calculated steps as she does, peeking outside first before she finally lets herself out. She finds him sitting by the table, that is already set. Seems like room service arrived while she was taking her sweet time in the shower. She also notices that her things are set on the bed, her gown from last night is neatly folded and her strappy heels are neatly placed on the ground, right below it.
He is casually reading the newspaper while taking a sip from his cup of black coffee. It takes him a few seconds to notice her presence. He shifts his attention from the newspaper to her and smiles, a usual, sheepish one.
"Hey." He clears his throat, shifting awkwardly in his seat. "Breakfast is ready."
She nods and walks up to him to sit in front of him and join him. He observes as she does, taking in the sight of her in his clothes. He can't help but feel giddy about it. There was something oddly adorable about the way Ran's just casually wearing his clothes.
There was something territorial about it.
He felt the same feeling as last night when he left the bridal garter on her.
Also, there was no denying at all. She looks good in his clothes. She looks absolutely good in anything.
But of course, Shinichi respects that Ran is her own woman. And technically speaking, they haven't even decided what their current status is at the moment.
Soon enough, Ran notices that he has been staring at her. She feels conscious about it and she meets his gaze, looking at him questioningly. Shinichi awkwardly looks away and says nothing.
She wants to ask him why he's staring but she's too shy to do so. They stay quiet long enough for silence to feel too deafening for both of them.
Ran averts her gaze and stares at the food instead. Her plate is filled with a nice stack of waffles with whipped cream and blueberries on top. On the side sits a fluffy serving of scrambled eggs with nicely toasted strips of bacon. The morning feast is indeed mouth-watering, but Ran doesn't have the appetite for it.
So, she merely cuts the waffles into small triangles. Shinichi on the other hand slightly stabs his fluffy scrambled eggs.
Both of them merely play with their food and take small bites in between. They repeat such actions until they are only about half-way through finishing the plate, barely even touching anything but feeling already full because of the anxiety that makes their stomachs flip.
Soon enough, Shinichi notices how Ran is struggling with slicing her waffles. He observes that the sleeves of her (his) hoodie were so long that they kept falling and covering her hands, restricting them in the process. Ran would have to keep pushing them up from time to time, but since they are too loose for her slim arms, they would still continue to fall.
Shinichi is unable to stand the sight that he rises from his seat to stride to her side of the table. Ran is puzzled as he stops just right behind her. She is startled when he bows a little, so that his shoulder is up to her level. She feels his chin brush against her shoulder as he reaches her wrist from behind. She blushes because it feels as though he is giving her a back hug, but is stunned when she sees his delicate fingers working through, folding one of her sleeves neatly until it stops right by her elbow. She stays still as he does the other. She is unable to withstand looking at him from shoulder.
His face is very much near hers. She takes her time to observe his sharp jawline, his handsome side profile. She snaps out when he turns his face towards her, feeling her gaze towards him. He gives her his undivided attention.
She becomes flustered and he gives her a soft smile.
"It was in the way…" He simply explains the obvious. He pulls away and goes back to his seat. Her eyes follow him and she nods, squeaking out an almost inaudible, "Thank you."
Still stunned, her eyes remain focused on him and soon they travel to the noticeable red marks on his bare shoulder, vivid lines and small crescents that sort of looked painful but Shinichi didn't seem to show any discomfort over them.
Ran begins to feel worried and also quite embarrassed. Suddenly, all she could think about is how she was the one who came on to him last night. She was the one who came rushing to his door and started knocking. She was the one who tackled him in a very rough kiss.
And she was also the one who told him that she wanted him.
So much…
Ran felt something in her short-circuit. Suddenly, everything was all too much to bear as if it hadn't been already before…
"Shinichi, about last night…" She speaks and his eyes shoot back right into her, so calm and composed but there is a quite noticeable flush spreading across his face. He is unable to respond but he does wait for her to continue what she has to say.
She pauses with a short intake of breath. All of a sudden, she feels as though she doesn't know the right words to say, nor where to even begin. Her heart is pounding in her chest. So many thoughts are running through her head.
"Last night was…" She prolongs instead, still thinking.
Shinichi starts to feel his palms sweat as he stares at her in anticipation, focusing as he waits for her to finish, feeling impatient with every second that she stalls. Anxiety creeps up to him, making his chest and stomach hurt.
He wonders about what she is going to say. He tries to read her but somehow it just seems impossible to do so.
He knows deep down, last night felt memorable. It is special to him, but Ran is suddenly acting so strange almost as if she is regretting what happened. The mere thought of it gives a slight pang to his chest.
He feels his palms sweat, wondering about what she is about to say and hoping that it would lead to something good later on.
'Good? Memorable? Not bad for our first time?' He guesses in his head, a little bit pleadingly.
"Spontaneous." She finishes and he feels his heart sink a little but also is quite relieved that the statement was a truth and more of a neutral than a negative.
He nods, agreeing with her.
"It was also irresponsible." She adds and he feels his heart sink a little bit more than it did. Although he agrees that she is indeed correct, it still hurt.
"I think we should forget that it happened. Probably for the best. Probably, the best way to say good bye, you know…" She finishes and suddenly he feels like his heart just fell off of the cliff and flatlined. He wanted to protest, but no words came from his mouth.
And as if it wasn't enough, she spoke again.
"It was supposed to be a onetime thing, right? You're still going back to New York, right?"
"What?" He asks in disbelief, unable to mask the hurt in his tone and in his eyes as he looks at her. It crushed him that she would even think that last night was just that. That it was just casual, that it meant absolutely nothing when it meant everything to him.
"I'm sorry, I came on to you last night." She admits with a hint of embarrassment in her tone. "I shouldn't have-
Suddenly, Shinichi feels irritated again. He hates that she has to be apologetic about what happened, when last night…
Last night for once, they just wanted to be together.
Not a care in the world about their responsibilities, for as long as they conveyed their feelings to each other. But now, suddenly, she's just taking it back…
"Why the hell are you making things so complicated again, Ran?" He says with a clear hint of frustration in his tone. Ran is startled by the question. This time, it is her turn to be speechless.
"Last night, you told me… You wanted to be selfish." He continues, his eyes remaining so focused on hers that it intimidates her, gives her the urge to look away but she freezes. "Why are you changing your mind again? What's so different about last night from now? You told me you knew what you are doing. I know I did. What's stopping you now? Because I know what I want now is still the same as what I wanted last night…"
Ran starts to hate the fact that the tables have turned this time, that this time, he is the one who is right, that he is talking some sense to her and she's just being stupid and difficult.
She lets out a defeated sigh.
"I just… I just don't want you to think that you have to take responsibility for what happened. Since well… Since I was a…"She shakes her head and her tone softens into another squeak, "Since you were my first…."
Tears start to pool in the corners of her eyes.
He was her first and she knows deep down she doesn't regretted anything that happened last night, but she is scared about so many things. She doesn't know what to think anymore.
"So, you'd rather that I'd just regard you as a one-night stand? A mere fuckbuddy? That's what you want? That's what you take me for?" Shinichi asks, unable to notice that he has already raised his tone at her. It frustrates him that Ran is once again, reducing herself into something less-important than his other matters in life, that she thinks she is nothing but dispensable. And what's even worse is that she would dare to think that he would walk out of her life after "getting what he wanted", when clearly that is not something that he would even dare to do. That is not who he is.
To him, Ran thinking less of herself also meant that she is also thinking less of him. It upset him, a lot more than she could ever know or think.
She on the other hand, feels bad because he is right. She is trying to run away again because she is afraid. She thought she is saving him by making him leave again, by trying to give him an easy way out but she is disregarding his feelings. She is not only hurting herself. She is hurting him as well. She thought she is doing the right thing, what's best for both of them. But she is only making things complicated, even more than they already were.
She tries to stop the tears from falling. But it still does and she starts to hate herself even more. She has already done enough to make him feel bad, and now she's crying and he's gonna think it's his fault.
And just as she predicted, she hears him sigh, a soft one and his expression softens as well.
"Ran…" He says her name, this time in a much calmer tone as he reaches for her hand on the table, holding it firmly in his. "I thought I made it clear last night… But I guess I didn't. So, if you want me to say it, I'll say it over and over again as long as you need to hear it."
He steadies his breath, feeling his heart beat rapidly against his chest.
"I love you…" He tells her with so much sincerity that she sees it as she looks into his eyes. "I still do. Always have and always will…"
She wants to tell him that she loves him too but she chokes on a sob. He shakes his head, letting out a light chuckle at her silliness.
Despite how much he thought she had changed, she is still the same old stubborn, crybaby that he knew.
"Barou…" He teases her just like how he would back then. Suddenly she feels like they are ten years younger again, back to the same old them, feeling the same old feeling coming back. He leans closer, bringing his hand up to cup her cheek, running his thumb to trace her tears away.
Suddenly it feels very much familiar.
Just like old times….
Shinichi then stands from his seat so that he could cross to her side of the table. He stops behind her and leans forward to give her a back hug while she remains seated, startled but also comforted by his warmth.
"You were right about letting me leave for LA and then New York, you know. It was beyond the dream. For a moment, I was really happy. I loved my career. But I always felt as though there is always something missing in my life. Those places weren't home. No matter how long I've been there, they just never felt like it..." He tells her with honesty, resting his chin against her shoulder. She feels him tighten his embrace around her. "You'll always be home to me, Ran…"
Ran steadies her breath, feeling the urge to tear-up again. She brings her hand up to touch him and somewhat return his embrace, reaching up to touch his hair, her back still facing him. She takes a few moments, sitting still before she lightly shifts, pulling away so that she can slightly turn to face him.
She stands up to give him a proper hug, wrapping her arms around his neck while resting her head against his chest as he wraps his arms around her petite waist.
"I love you too, Shinichi. I'm sorry I was being difficult. I just… I panicked you know…" She finally responds. She hears him chuckle again as he strokes her hair.
"Don't ever think that I would let you go, the second time. Because I won't anymore…" He tells her strictly then he pauses a bit, thinking.
A shy expression forms his face, he flushes, crimson red. He rests his chin on the top of her head, quite relieved that this way, she wouldn't see how embarrassed he is as he mutters under his breath. "Besides… If I'm gonna take responsibility… Then maybe you should too you know…"
Ran pulls away, shooting back at him with a surprised look on her face, her eyes widen at the thought. Her mouth falls agape.
"You mean to say…" She reacts, still stunned.
Shinichi shifts uncomfortably and scratches the back of his head in a sheepish manner. He looks at her with a half-irritated, half-embarrassed frown, that Ran finds to be adorable. He also crosses his arms against his chest.
"Yes." He simply replies, clearing his throat, trying to look cool and composed but the crimson flush has already spread across his neck.
"Really?" She asks again, with no intention to taunt him, but rather because she is still in the state of disbelief.
Shinichi raises an eyebrow.
"You, really couldn't tell?"
Ran shakes her head, looking at him with such innocent eyes. And just like that, a smug smile forms Shinichi's lips. Suddenly it's Ran's turn to be embarrassed. A puzzled expression forms her face.
"But… how…"
She turns redder than he is. Shinichi's grin goes wider at her question.
"Detective's instinct, I guess…" He answers, shrugging. Then he cups her face in his hand again and looks into her indigo-colored eyes. He smiles and she feels as though she's going to melt into a puddle. "Or just my instinct in general… You know, if it's you, I'll figure it out no matter how complicated you can be at times…"
He leans to shorten the already small distance between them. She stays still as he moves closer, eyeing at her lips. She closes her eyes and anticipates a kiss from him.
And then…
A loud knock on the door interrupts them and makes them pull away from each other. Ran's eyes open and finds Shinichi's puzzled expression before he fully pulls away, wondering who it maybe at the door.
There is a hint of annoyance in his expression, feeling irritated that someone would dare to interrupt his and Ran's moment.
He walks up to the door, hearing another series of knocks and he opens it, expecting an annoying hotel worker that he is ready to scold.
"Oi what the hell-"
His voice falters as he cut off when he finds Sonoko, Sera and Hattori at his door. A surge of panic flows through his whole system. His face turns pale.
"Oi Kudo! We've been looking for Neechan. These two have been worried all night, waiting for her and she still hasn't come back to their hotel room." Heiji says. Shinichi remains standing by the doorway, blocking the entrance and hopefully blocking the view of Ran inside his room.
He remains silent, thinking of a reply when Ran approaches, curiously and quite worried as to what may have been taking him long.
"Shinichi?" She calls him. Her voice unfortunately does not go unheard by the other three. Shinichi's eyes widen and so do Heiji's, Sonoko's and Sera's.
In an instant they all push forward, making Shinichi step back, failing to block the doorway. Shinichi slumps his shoulders, feeling defeated. He sighs as he closes the door and shakes his head, knowing very well that he and Ran are in for quite a teasing.
Ran on the other hand is startled by their presence and also embarrassed as soon as she remembers what she is wearing.
"Ah Neechan… We went to Kudo to ask if he has seen you, and turns out he did." Heiji comments, smirking and then shooting a look at Shinichi who frowns at him, annoyed. "So you have only been here, all this time ne?"
Sonoko and Sera on the other hand shoot Ran a knowing look. Ran blushes furiously and hugs herself, feeling as though her privacy has been violated.
Shinichi on the other hand walks towards her and stands in front of her, shielding her from the three, protectively.
"Oi oi! It's not what you think!" He explains defensively, hoping that they would stop with the teasing but it doesn't. Instead, it gets even worse.
"Really? So, would you care to explain to us what those marks on your shoulder are?" Heiji asks. Suddenly, Shinichi feels as though he is a suspect being interrogated by an officer. He looks at his shoulder and sees the marks that Ran made last night. He blushes.
A proud smirk forms Sonoko's lips, clearly impressed and quite surprised by Ran's clear evidence of boldness. Given Ran's conservative and innocent image, it was something that Sonoko and the other two weren't expecting. But alas, they are all adults there.
"My, my, who would've thought Ran could be such a minx!" Sonoko chimes. Ran shoots her a dangerous look.
"Sonoko!" She scolds, half-beging her to stop, with no success.
"Also what's that on your neck, you're hiding with your hair?" She asks and Ran automatically brings her hand to the spot on her neck that Shinichi marked.
Sonoko's smirk widens.
"Gotcha!"
"Evidence is clear as presented. Also that jacket and that 'signature' fold screams a lot. No need to be shy, Ran-chan. We've been knew…" Sera teases.
Ran looks at the jacket on her body and observes the fold of the sleeves. Sera did have a point. She is sporting a UCLA jacket. And no other person could own such other than Shinichi who took his degree in such a prestigious university. Moreover, as Sera had just stated, the way the sleeves were folded clearly screams Shinichi's ownership, given that he always sports such style whenever he's wearing dress-shirts or casual long sleeves.
Anyone who knew him well would know that such neat, even fold is his doing…
"Can't believe Kazuha overslept and missed this…" Heiji says, chuckling. Then he gestures to the two, questioningly. "So, given all this, does this mean you two are finally…"
Shinichi smiles, genuinely and takes Ran's hand in his, intertwining his fingers against hers. Ran is startled as she looks up at him.
He turns to her and flashes a sheepish grin and then turns to their friends.
"I guess we are, aren't we?" He replies, which earns a cheer from the other three. Ran feels her lips automatically forming into a giddy smile she just can't suppress.
"So what happens now? What about New York?" Sonoko asks Shinichi curiously.
Ran silently anticipates a reply from Shinichi and tries so hard to calm her nerves despite how anxious she feels. For a moment there is tension in the air. Even Heiji and Sera shut their mouths to hear Shinichi's answer.
"I'm still flying back tomorrow, but only temporarily, to file my resignation and prepare for my transition before I go back to Tokyo for good. I received an offer from Megure-keibu a long time ago that I initially rejected. But he told me that such offer will not cease to stand and that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department will always be open for me if I ever chose to come back. I've been thinking about it for a long time, especially since I came back and now, I guess, I've finally come up with a resolve…" He announces. "As cheesy as it sounds, I'm choosing where the heart is…"
He wraps his arm around Ran's shoulder, pulling her closer to him. Ran feels touched. She smiles while her eyes tear up again with joy.
Heiji, Sonoko and Sera all smile. All in awe, watching their two friends, looking happier than they have ever been before.
Mission success after all…
The two feel some sort of dread shoot up to their stomachs as they walk along the airport, near the departure area.
Shinichi turns to Ran, holding the handle of his carry-on luggage. Ran smiles sadly at him. Suddenly she feels like she misses him already.
She holds his neatly folded hoodie in her arms, hugging it protectively. She looks at it and thinks, wondering if she should return it. Then she looks at him, as if asking for permission.
"I think, I'll hold on to this for a while." She says and he nods.
"And I'll see you in three weeks." He responds, pulling her with his free hand. He gives her a sweet, soft kiss on the lips, catching her surprised. He deepens it a little, brushing his lips against hers and she closes her eyes, responding to him, holding his face to pull him closer.
They hold the kiss a little longer, but not too much that it seemed inappropriate to the public, just enough that they are both left in a daze and quite short of breath when they pull away.
"In New York…" He finishes his sentence with a smirk. She flashes him a bright and excited smile.
"Have a safe flight." She says thoughtfully.
"You too." He replies, lifting his hand to stroke her hair lovingly, lingering for a moment and knowing very well that the three weeks that they'd be apart would seem longer now because he just couldn't bear to be away from her again.
But he pulls away shortly, reminding himself that he'll see her.
Three weeks.
It shouldn't be too long, right?
They managed to be away from each other for ten years.
He waves a good bye and so does she. Then he turns, dragging his luggage with him. She watches as he walks away.
And she starts to miss him so much already. She sighs, hugging his hoodie tighter.
Three weeks. It's just three weeks.
Unexpectedly, he stops again and she wonders. He turns to her to wave at her again.
Ran couldn't help but laugh at how silly and childish he looks. But she waves back at him anyway.
AN. So that's the second to the last chapter! Sorry it took three months, two scripts and one breakdown about a concert cancellation. Hahaha I apologize for keeping you all waiting. To those who don't know, I got really busy with my job as a scriptwriter and right after I finally had the time to write, I received notice about a cancelled TVXQ concert, which I was so so so looking forward too. I had to take a time off because I momentarily lost inspiration to write.
But I'm recovering now and I'm back to writing. Aside from this update being my comeback to the fanfiction world, this also gonna be my advance gift for icedcoffeeanyone/hislips who is celebrating her birthday this coming Saturday!
Please send her some love on her ko-fi account:
/icedcoffeeanyone
She deserves our support!
Would like to take this time to thank you all for understanding my long absence. Thank you all for your support and messages!
The next chapter will be the last for TSOY. Ahhhh. I'm excited but also feeling some sort of separation anxiety! Hahaha
I'm still not sure when I'll be able to post the last update for TSOY. I might work on the long-due drabble requests first before I write Chapter 7. Hahaha XD But I promise, I'll try to update soon!
Thank you to everyone who have been with me from the beginning until the end!

Detective Conan File 993 [Japanese to English Translation]

Both love and case
Are cut with a blade?!
TN: Ahaha. Pun. Like: Yaiba (blade) as MANGA (Okita) is added to the love (ShinRan and Heizuha) and to the case (Okita is an IDIOT)

[10 minutes before the tournament starts...]
S: The criminal behind Nukitani-san's murder had been hiding in the restroom up until the police arrived...
S: So it must be one of you three...
S: But we can't do much until we figure out where the box cutter that was used to slice Nukitani-san's throat went...
T: Yeah... Looks like this might be a tough one...
S: There's nothing we can do! Could you contact the tournament organizers and tell them to come here so we can explain the situation and tell them to cancel the event?
S: I'd like to know more about how Nukitani-san got here and such...
T: Right!
[Wait! 10 minutes is should be more than enough time...]
[A murder happened at the Kendo Tournament!! Looks like Heiji discovered the truth?!]

T: Eh?
S: More than enough... Don't tell me you already figured out who did it?
H: Aye... which one of these three did it...
H: And how they killed him!!
O: I've figured it out as well!!
O: Since we can't seem to find the murder weapon, no matter where we look...
O: The criminal is this blind...
O: Ojii-san with a cane!!
TN: LMAO
Y: Eh?
O: He was lying about the supposed criminal mentioning a box cutter on the phone!
C: Lying?
C: You'd think that even if that was a lie, he wouldn't have just sat on this bench right next to the corpse, but would rather have tried to get out of here...
H: Besides, he can't see... How would he have killed him?
O: Isn't it obvious? That cane contains a sword...

O: Just like Zatouichi, he calculated the distance between him and his target by sensing his presence...
O: And sliced this occhan's neck with a single, sudden draw!!
O: So? I'm right, aren't I?
O: Can you say 'Life is pain'?
C: Oi, Hattori...
C: Is this guy... an idiot?
O: You're supposed ta say that at the end, ya know! <3
H: Sorry... Ignore him...
H: So? Ya learned who the criminal is?
C: Nope, all I know...
C: Is that although the victim's bag contained a drink...
C: Someone must've taken it after he was killed...
C: And the one who took it...
C: Is probably the ex-SDF officer, Sakamori Akane-san...
A: Wha?!

S: Why do you think that?
C: Well, you see, there’s some powdered medical residue left around Nukitani-san’s mouth, yet he doesn't have any water on him!
C: That's why I believe that the warmth that melted the chocolate in Sadamori-san's bag stemmed from a plastic bottle containing a warm drink!
A: A-as I said, the chocolate simply melted in my pocket...
C: Then it should’ve melted evenly! However, since only those closer to the tip melted, something else must have given off its warmth... You probably got it from the vending machine, added the poison, and then kept it in your bag until you got a chance to give it to Nukitani-san, right?
C: And you didn't tell us that you had a warm drink... because you thought that might arouse suspicion if someone finds a plastic bottle cut into little pieces...
S: That's why you were hiding in the restroom... to get rid of the evidence...
A: T-That was not poison, that was a laxative! I just wanted get back at Nukitani-sensei for rejecting my love!!
A: And when I came by to make sure he’s stuck in the restroom... He was dead. So I grabbed the plastic bottle because I knew everyone would get the wrong idea!!
A: I swear I’m telling the truth! Please believe me!!
C: I don’t think she's the culprit! She practiced Kendo in high school for three years, so she’d at least know how to wear a hakama properly...
C: And the culprit appears to have put the hakama on backwards!
T: Then all three of us must be innocent! After all, I practiced kendo too…

C: Did you really practice Kendo back in the day, Yokote-san...?
C: You didn't even know that victory poses are forbidden at Kendo tournaments...
C: Isn't that right, referee-ojii-san?
N: Y-yeah... As per the guidelines...
N: 'An excessively emotional display of pride following a successful blow is considered unsportsmanlike conduct and will result in the strike being annulled, regardless of whether or not it was previously considered legal.'
S: See... Yet you were bragging to your girlfriend about striking a victory pose after landing a strike...
S: And you got angry when Nukitani-san humiliated you by calling you out on your lie...
Y: Y-Yeah...
Y: I wanted to get back at this ossan by embarrassing him myself...
Y: So I followed him and secretly took pictures! If he'd shown any weakness or shameful habit, I'd have exposed him through the internet!
Y: And when this woman went went for the same restroom he'd gone to....
Y: I figured that they might be having some sort of secret date...
Y: That's all there is to it!!
Y: I wanted to leave ASAP, but then this kid and those guys got here...
Y: Then while I was in the restroom, I deleted all the pictures I'd secretly taken of that ossan!!
T: So that's why it says that you haven't taken any pictures this month?
Y: Y-Yeah...
S: But you're also the only one who doesn't know how to put a hakama on...
S: So you'd have to be the one who killed him.
Y: A, no...

S: Right, Conan-kun?
C: Hmmm...
C: But Yokote-san....
C: Doesn't have a box cutter with him...
S: H-hey, Conan-kun?!
T: R-right! I don't have one with me! And I at least know how to wear hakama, because I practiced kendo a little!
H: Then how 'bout ya put that tare on? Forensics can give ya some gloves...
T: O-okay... I’ve got this!
T: Take this long one... make a cross in the back...
T: Then fasten what's left behind... and ready!
H: Nope! Tare's knot shouldn't be visible, so yer supposed ta lift the maedare* and make a knot under it!
TN: Apron :"D
H: See? After fastenin' it... Ya can see the blood left at the maedare, right?
S: B-but that's...
H: Yep! Anyone who is used ta wearing bougu would wear his hakama backwards on purpose... Ta make it look that it was done by somebody who never did kendo…

H: And the only one who had ta do it must be wearing referee clothes, and thus hold a rank...
H: Only ya, Norimura Nenji-san!!
K: No way?!
K: Ya still haven’t found Heiji?! The match starts in 5 minutes!
K: And Ran-chan and Conan-kun aren’t here either... Maybe they know where Heiji is?
R: A phone call from Kazuha-chan... If she'll learn where Hattori-kun is, she'll head straight over here...
R: But if she gets here before the case is closed...
R: We can’t afford to waste any time...
R: Because Hattori-kun...
R: Has to confess to Kazuha-chan!!!

[B-but.... The criminal used a box cutter as a weapon, right?]
N: I don't have one of those on me...
H: We were wrong about that from the start...
H: The victim, Nukitani-san, was talking to someone on phone...
H: And he said...
H: 'The cutter is stained with blood, I can't cut with it... please bring me the spare one!'
Y: Yeah! Exactly!
C: I don't see anything wrong with that...
H: In kansai, 'cutter' can refer to a dress shirts! Ya guys just call those "Y-Shirts" instead!
TN: HA! I was right uvu
H: Add to that the fact that Nukitani-san got a nosebleed because of Okita's opponent...
H: And we've got this...

H: 'My Cutter shirt is stained due to my nosebleed, so I can't wear it....
H: Bring me the spare one!'
TN: Kiru = cut, kiru = wear
T: I see! That's why Nukitani-san's wife is coming here with a Y-shirt!
S: So Nukitani-san wanted to change his shirt, and chose this remote restroom by accident?
H: Yeah... 'cause all the other restrooms were taken...
H: That said, even without a nosebleed, if ya stained Nukitani-san's shirt with a hand smeared in ink... He woulda come here anyway, which is just what ya wanted, right?
N: B-but the murder weapon?!
N: I don't have anything sharp with me, right?
H: Ya do!
T: Y-you think I'd slice a throat with a shinai?!
H: It's a modified shinai...
H: If ya'd swung horizontally with a sharpened bamboo tip cut as thin as a katana...
H: The centrifugal force woulda helped ya slice the throat!!

O: Well, even with a simple shinai’s strike... there are ways to slice his throat so that the blood won't stop flowing...
H: Yep... the throat is the most vulnerable part of the human body after all...
H: The sound heard in the restroom was the sound of... Ya trying to dull the edge of yer bamboo sword, which was as sharp as a katana, so ya rubbed it against wall...
H: And the sound that was heard right after the sound of the bougu being thrown out of the restroom window...
H: After ya took off the blood-drenched bougu ya used in yer plan, ya changed into the coat ya prepared earlier, put the murder weapon - yer bamboo sword - inside the shinai bag, and were gonna leave as if nothin' had happened...
H: But then lotsa people arrived, so ya couldn't leave the toilet and realized ya’d have ta do somethin' with that sharpened shinai...
H: So it oughta still be left inside yer shinai bag, right?
H: Nukitani-san's blood!!
S: We’ll check!
N: Yeah... I thought it will show the blood stains... so I washed it in the restroom just in case...
H: My bad, Kudo... I took over at the best part. <3
C: That's kind of frustrating...
S: But why shinai? It'd be easier to cut the throat with something sharp...
N: This shinai...
TN: Was a gift from him on our first date, so I wanted to end his life like that - doing his favorite kendo with the sword he gifted me... I thought about rollercoaster, but meh, this idea is better. What? Wrong case? Oh.

N: Belonged to my son...
N: Whom Nukitani-san drove to suicide 2 years ago...
S: D-drove to suicide?
N: At the grand finals of this tournament series' team league, two years ago... My son pulled off a masterful strike in the decisive game... But in the passion of the moment, he struck a victorious pose, and the strike was annulled...
N: My son's high school was eliminated as a result... He felt responsible, and took his own life because he couldn't bare the shame... Nukitani-san was the referee on call for this match...
TN: Oh, I like my idea with the first date better... Poor boy :(
S: But the rules of Kendo are written in stone - there's nothing he could have done about, right?
N: Yes... I thought that Nukitani-san had made the right call, and that my son had been in the wrong...
N: But yesterday, a student from the Kyoto Senshin High School also struck a victory pose after scoring a point during the team league's grand finals...
N: And he flat-out ignored it!!
S: R-really?
N: Yes! And not only did this guy not annull the point, he encouraged this student!
N: He played favorites with him because he was from the kansai area, same as him!!
N: T-that's why I... This prejudiced bastard...
N: With my son's shinai...
O: He probably...

O: Held this charm...
O: The jihou* from the first grade told me 'I want ta win!' and borrowed that charm from me...
TN: Second player
O: This is a charm from the Hachidai shrine, passed in my family fer generations...
O: With this I never lost...
O: After one blow, it showed from under his the dougi, and after noticing it he said 'Kami-san, thank ya' while holding it with teary eyes...
O: Maybe ya just mistook it for the winning pose?
N: That’s a lie...
O: It's true! And the referee told them 'never ta show tears during a match'...
N: It's a lie... a lie...
N: A lie!!!

R: Phew...
C: S-strong...

R: What are you doing?! QUICKLY!!!
T: A, wait...
S: Hm? That charm...
R: A, Kazuha-chan!! I brought them!!
K: R-Ran-chan!

K: The match ended...
[Win without playing!]
R Eeh?!
K: What were ya doin'?! Heiji, ya idiot, idiot, idiot!!
M: Well then, let's retreat?
I: You’re not going to meet Hattori-sama?
M: I’d like to wait...
M: For a better opportunity to meet my future husband...
O: This is all ‘cause somebody here took their sweet time solvin’ that mystery, isn’t it?
H: We lost all that time 'cause of yer Zatouichi blabbering!!
K: Mystery... don't tell me ya ran into another case?
K: Those detectives...
C: Life is pain...

WIP Tag Meme
Got tagged by the glorious @konekat, check out her awesome stuffs!! :D
Do Dis: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets, whatever.
Okay, I’m seeing this as a way to publicly out myself about all of the freaking things I’ve been working on for FOREVER and still haven’t managed to finish. Seriously, y’all, if you see something on this list that you want, feel free to drop me an ask and pester me to finish it because I need a little push right now.
Voltron: Legendary Defender
Pocket Sized - klance, 4/?, 12k
“Keith! I’m down here!” “Lance? Lance, where are you!?” “Over here!!” Keith does his best to follow the sound of the tiny voice, so jarringly opposite from Lance’s usual loud and obnoxious tone. He scans the tiny outcropping of rock, looking for his (ex) childhood friend’s ugly mug. “Down here!” Down? Keith glances down, and just about trips on a rock. A tiny Lance, no taller than an inch and wearing nothing but a leaf around his hips, is jumping up and down and waving his arm frantically to get Keith’s attention. Keith blinks once, and blinks again. “Wha…? Lance!?”
or,
Lance shrinks, and now his ex-childhood friend Keith has to figure out how to turn him back to normal. My Little Lover AU
I have the next chapter mostly written it’s just I’ve been body slammed with a bunch of other responsibilities that have taken serious precedence. I hope to get at least one or two more chapters out this summer.
Smile for Me - klance, 1/5, 4k
“I like you, y’know.” Honestly, that was not what Lance had expected to hear that morning. In his defense, all he wanted that day was just another grueling six hour shift and then go home, watch cartoons while eating pizza from the box, and go to sleep. And the day had been going exactly as planned until he ran into him in the changing room. Him, being Keith. The new(ish) guy.
This one I paused because I got started on Pocket Sized so..... until PS is done, this one i’s gonna stay a WIP
Untitled Voltron Sense8 AU - klance, shallura, Rolo/Nyma
This one I haven’t officially started on yet, it’s just been cooking in my head since I finished Sense8 season 2, and that I’m starting to put a lot of thought into recently, with the announcement of the series cancellation (fuck u Netflix).
The sensate team is Allura, Pidge, Shiro, Keith, Lance, Hunk, Shay and Rolo (though I might kick Rolo out for Lotor, I think that would be more interesting). The Galra are the BPO, and Sendak is Whispers. Probably one of the Blade of Marmora birthed the Cluster. Coran is like, too old to “share his first breath” so he’s like Allura’s guardian and confidante.
I’ll be making a more thorough post about it at some point.
Voltron: Legendary Romance Dating Sim
check out @voltronld-datingsim for more info, but you play as a more-or-less customizable OC and woo a Paladin ^^ I’m just one of many people working on this, and it’s going to be awesome.
Miraculous Ladybug
Gravity - ladrien, 2/?, 12k
He could feel the tension between them, like gravity, pulling him closer and closer… if he was the earth, then she was the sun, and he orbited everything that she was and would ever be as she warmed his being to the very core. And he could tell that she felt it, too. So Adrien gave in to the gravity.
Honestly I doubt I’ll ever finish this.
Detective Conan
Ubiquitous - ShinRan, 15/?, 46k
High school detectives all over the world are disappearing, turning up dead two weeks later thousands of miles away from their homes. When Shinichi gets a mysterious letter and Heiji goes missing, Conan suspects the worst. Can the shrunken sleuth rescue his friend and catch the culprit before disaster strikes? Canon pairings.
I’m really upset this dropped off my radar because it’s still one of my more prouder fics, and it just... stopped.I really want to try and finish, but I can’t remember most of the plot points I was going to reveal. I remember doing a shitton of research, too... RIP me
Danny Phantom
Apprentice - Teen Titans Episode Apprentice AU, slight Amethyst Ocean, 3/?, 8k
Vlad Plasmius is in need of an Apprentice... and who better than Danny Phantom?
I want to continue this desperately but I doubt it and it makes me sad. It was an AU that mimics the Teen Titans episodes where Slade blackmails Robin into becoming his apprentice, and I thought it had a great DannyvPlasmius vibe.
I tag @madness-and-brilliance @nalciel @artesiant @mitchkat1 and other creators I can’t think of off the top of my head.

Day 6: Can I have this dance?
A/N: I got the inspiration for this, thanks to @gisachi who like thousand years ago (or being more realistic, a half year ago xD) answered my ask about ShinRan dancing :3
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The day had changed in the evening and somehow it was surprising how fast time flies by when you have so much to do. The whole day Ran hasn't done anything else than work. Go there, be there, and it wasn’t like Ran didn’t like her job, but sometimes she felt like there were too much to do to one human. It was evening already and like yesterday and the day before, there was still so much to do before she could even be thinking about going to sleep. Oh, and earlier she dreamed to curl up in her husband’s arms and just be. Seemed like it would stay like a dream. Well, at some point this rush is going to end, and when this happens, Ran would have enough free time to do whatever she liked. And that was her motivation. She could do this!
So, Ran opened the gate, which she closed behind her, and went through to the yard to the front door. The warmth and scent of the food in the hallway was her first welcome. Ran realised how hungry she was. God, she felt like she could eat anything!
“I’m home”, she shouted while closed the door behind her. She changed her shoes to the slippers.
“Welcome back”, a familiar voice greeted. Ran straightened her spine and saw how the man came out from the living room. He smiled. “How was your day?”
Ran sighed even though she didn’t want to. “Busy”, she answered and put her jacket on the coat rack. Then she stepped forward to Shinichi, stood on her tiptoes, and gave him a fast kiss on the lips before she has to lock up to study. “And I still have so much to do, so… Well, you know...”
Shinichi sneered, and Ran didn’t even stay to wait for an answer. She was ready to go to study – since Shinichi wasn’t working -, when suddenly a hand grabbed her shoulder and made her stop.
“But before you go”, Shinichi’s voice said behind her with a perky tune, “I have a little surprise for you.”
“Surprise?” Ran repeated when Shinichi turned her around and pushed her towards the living room. He stopped her in the doorway.
“Tada!” he shouted. “Dinner is ready, just for you and me.”
Ran didn’t find words. There was a candle middle of the table, two plates, glasses, and a jar of water. On the big dish, there were many kinds of sushi and on a bowl, there were fried noodles with sauce.
Ran smiled. She knew that Shinichi had ordered these foods from somewhere, just put them out on dishes, but still, the thought was still kind and beautiful. Moment of spending time together, eating together in the candlelight, in each other’s arms…
She felt her smile fading away slowly. So beautiful and nice thought…
She felt how Shinichi’s hands grabbed on her arms while he pressed himself towards her back. First, she felt his breath through her hair, then a slow, long kiss. “Moment of indulgence for my beautiful and lovely wife”, she heard him said. Another kiss. “And on the fridge, there is your favorite dessert.”
“Oh, Shinichi”, Ran whispered, and as much as she wanted to turn around and kiss him as a showing him how much she appreciated this, she couldn’t. Even the thought of breaking this moment was too much for her, but that’s how it was. She should just take some food with her and go to do work as soon as possible. She didn’t have time for this…
But as soon as this rush would be over, she would make this up to Shinichi. At least he had invested in this…
”I’m so sorry, love”, she said in the end and break out of his arms. She turned towards him and smiled as apologetic as possible. “I need to continue my work, I don’t have time for… this…”
“Ran…”
“I know, I’m sorry”, she interrupted and looked down. She didn’t want to meet his disappointed expression. Shinichi had worked so hard for this… And really, it felt so bad to turn him down. But she would make this up somehow, later… “You can eat, I eat a little later…”
Ran was already fleeing from the room when a hand grabbed her arm, making her stop again. Ran turned to him and looked at him. Surprisingly he didn’t look angry or disappointed. Instead, he smiled mischievously.
“That’s okay, but then, can I have one dance?”
“What?” Ran glared at him like she has heard him wrong. A dance? In a time like this?
Blue eyes didn’t break up from her gaze while his hand moved down on her arm to the palm. He grabbed it. “Can I have this dance?” he asked.
Ran waited that Shinichi would start to laugh or anything else which would show that he was just joking with her, but no. His facial expression didn’t twitch.
He was serious.
Eventually, Ran gave a laugh and looked away. “Shinichi, really, I don’t have time…” She tried to pull her hand out, but his grip just tightened. She silenced with confusion.
“I know that Mrs. Kudo’s time is expensive”, he said eventually, and even if Ran had declined stubbornly, he didn’t sound angry or disappointed. “But she has worked many days without breaks, so I demand: either you dance with me two minutes, or we are going to have dinner peacefully and without hurry.” He led her hand closer to him and bowed a little. “You choose”, he whispered while his breath tickled Ran’s back of the hand before he gave a tender kiss on it.
Ran didn’t know if she should get angry or cry. She really didn’t have any time for this! Actually, she should be working right now, not standing here wondering if she should dance or have dinner with her husband. Why Shinichi made this much harder than it should have been? Why Shinichi didn’t understand? Why he needed to be romantic and demand attention right now when she has so much to do?
But did she really have choices? Even though she wanted to get angry and lock herself on to study, she knew that rest of the evening she would just have a bad conscience because she would have hurt Shinichi who just tried to give her attention and love. It was just a bad time for that, nothing more. And it seemed like Shinichi has decided to be stubborn with this, so he wouldn’t give up if she tries to say "no" in a gentle way…
Hah, and Shinichi dared to say that Ran was stubborn.
“Fine”, she sighed eventually. “One dance, two minutes. Then I need to go to work.”
“Fine”, Shinichi answered while he straightened and then he gently pulled her against him. Ran smiled shortly when she felt a hand on her lower back, which would just make sure that she wouldn’t try to run away. She raised her other hand to his shoulder. Shinichi started to move slowly. Only then Ran realised that there wasn’t any music. She moved a little to meet Shinichi’s face.
“You’re not going to put some music?”
He met her gaze. “No.”
“Why not?”
The man smiled shortly and looked away. “With you, two minutes is a short time. I can’t waste any of it just for music.”
For a moment Ran stared at his profile before smiled shortly and looked away. With a slow rhythm, she let her cheek lean against Shinichi’s shoulder and closed her eyes. She let peaceful swinging and silence to took over her every sense. All that sound and hurry somehow melted away, feeling like something that happened a long time ago. Like a memory. With those warm arms around her and familiar scents filling her world, she almost started to believe that everything had been only her imagination. Leaning against the man who was peaceful himself, she started to wonder if she really was so busy as she told herself.
Now that she thought of it when was the last time that she had time to curl up against Shinichi? Yes, they had changed kisses before and after work, send some messages to each other, and slept on the same bed every night. But truth to be told, it felt like forever when she last time has time to stop and enjoy Shinichi’s presence. She didn’t remember when she gave herself enough time to enjoy Shinichi’s love and affection that he probably has tried to give her. When was the last time they had hugged, giving proper kisses instead of fast pecks? When was the last time they had sat down and talked, telling each other’s days or what was on their mind? When? Ran didn’t remember. She has been so busy, only thinking about her work. That wasn’t a good reason at all, but… Hopefully, Shinichi knew and understood. Of course, even though Ran has been so busy with her work and hadn’t given her husband much attention, he knew that she still loves him, right? Of course, Shinichi would know…
Or did he? Ran felt anxious hitting her hard. God, when was the last time she told him that she loves him? She didn’t remember. She opened her eyes and looked at her husband’s jaw and cheek. Now would be a good time to remind him. She opened her mouth.
”You know, I have the loveliest wife in the world.”
Ran shut her mouth and frowned. Where did he get that thought so suddenly? And if Ran could be honest, right now she didn’t feel like she deserved that. But with Shinichi? About that subject, it was pointless to argue. And truth to be told…
Truth be told, Ran would only lie to herself if she would say that she didn’t love to hear it. Every time Shinichi told her that she was the most beautiful and loveliest wife, it made her blush like a little girl while her heart started to race on her chest. And every time it made her happy to hear that. Because she knew that Shinichi didn’t say things like that for a fun.
“Oh, really?” she answered with a smile on her lips. She closed her eyes again. “What makes her so great and lovely?”
“Everything”, Shinichi answered while they were still swinging slowly. “She is wise, emotional, strong in many ways, fair… and very, very selfless.” He kept a little break. “So selfless that she usually forgets that sometimes she should be also selfish.” Ran felt how the grip on her lower back tightened. “She always thinks about others. She does everything for others, take care that those who she cares deeply is fine, that nothing bothers them, but she always forgets herself.” He smiled shortly. “And she is so patient. I don’t even know what I have done to deserve a woman like her. Every time I have much work to do, it feels like I forgot everything around me. There are only cases after cases, and I just go with them. Sometimes I feel like I just come home from the crime scene, locked up in the study, and then I left either back to the crime scene or police station. I eat if I have time, sleep if I remember, and give a kiss to my wife if I happened to meet her on the way. She is so great, and I dare to treat her like that.”
Ran smiled. Yeah, sounds familiar. Sometimes he just happened to have some thought cases and other times there just happen to be so many that she rarely sees Shinichi even though he would come home. How often Ran had brought some food and coffee to the study and late in the evening went to get him on the bed.
“And yet”, he continued, “and yet my wife supports me, take care that I eat, take a shower, change my clothes and get some sleep. And usually, that stubborn woman comes and tells me that I have to take a break from my work.”
Ran laughed. “Oh, what a terrible woman”, she commented.
“You tell me”, Shinichi answered. “There is so much to do, and such a hurry that culprit doesn’t get away or the key of the case wouldn't disappear, there is not enough time, and then my wife comes and demands that I take a break.” He gave a laugh. “And every time I resist, tell her that there is no time, and every time that beautiful wife of mine fight back until she got what she wants.”
Oh yeah, Ran remembered those arguments and shouts when she had tried to get him out of the study, take a break even for a moment that… that…
Ran opened her eyes… Wait…
“And every time I realise that the break is something I really need”, he continued. “Every time I realise that I relax when I get my thoughts away from the cases. My wife has made some delicious food for us, I spend some time with her… And eventually, I realise that there is no hurry anymore. And when I get back to work, I see things differently, and before I know it, the answer is there, right before me.”
Ran let out a gasp and wasn’t sure if she should cry or laugh.
“So, I think it’s awesome that I have a wife who manages to fight with me that I have a break from my work”, Shinichi continued and stopped. Ran smiled shortly like a loser before she seceded a little that she could meet Shinichi’s face. He looked at her already. Ran smiled sadly.
“You have a wise wife”, she said and took a deep breath. “I wonder if she is able to keep those breaks herself.” Well, she knew the answer already.
Shinichi smiled and let go of her hand only to raise it on her cheek. Ran leaned to touch. “Mmm, I told you, my wife has a bad habit to think others, but forget herself”, he answered. “But… I hope that maybe I could also be stubborn enough to get my wife to keep some break.”
Ran laughed. “Well, you have learned from the best”, she said and raised her free hand to touch his. She closed her eyes enjoying this moment. “Thank you, Shinichi.”
She didn’t get an answer, but she felt movement and soon she felt his lips against her. She answered on that gently and lovely kiss, trying to forward all her feelings to him, trying to let him know that she still cared, she still loved…
He broke up slowly from the kiss, and reality started to come back to Ran. No, not yet…
"Two minutes have gone, Mrs. Kudo”, he said quietly. Ran opened her eyes only to see those soft blue eyes which she could stare at all day without getting tired of them. “You are free to go back to your work. And remember to take some food with you. And take enough that you got your belly full, and you manage to work before I come to get you to sleep.”
Ran couldn’t be smiling. “But don’t you always say that you think better with an empty stomach?”
“Mmm”, Shinichi mumbled like he was thinking. “You know, I have seen you when you are hungry, and if I can be honest, it’s something I don’t want to witness if I don’t have to.”
Ran rolled her eyes but laughed. Then she looked at the table which still waited that someone would sit down and start to eat.
Suddenly Ran felt like she doesn’t have to hurry. Her work would wait while she would have dinner with Shinichi. It wouldn’t take too much time. And she believed they both deserved it. She would have enough time to do some work after dinner, and who knows, maybe after delicious food and some rest, those works wouldn’t take so much time to get done.
”You know”, she started and turned towards him. She let her hand from the shoulder slide for his lower back. “I know we agreed that it would be either one dance or dinner, but… do you think that your lovely wife would still get the dinner on the same deal?”

ShinRan - Eternal Flame
A/N: I have been writing for a long time but only in Finnish. This is the first time I write fanfic in English. I think my English is good enough to understand what I’m saying (told me if I’m wrong) but more than that? I’m not sure at all. So, I chose my shortest fic and decided to translate it. But even though this seems readable to me, I can be wrong. So, if you decide to read this, it would be nice if you would tell me how I did. If this is a disaster, I promise, I don’t do this ever again :’D
And the song which inspired me to write this: The Bangles - Eternal Flame
~*~*~*~*~*~
Ran lay on the couch in the living room and watched the TV. Well, it was more like channel surfing than particularly watching anything. It wasn’t like there is nothing to watch, it was because Ran was too picky. And it felt so unbearable. Whatever channel she chose to watch, it took only a few minutes before she felt so uneasy and changed the channel. For some reason, she couldn’t focus on anything. Nothing pleased her.
And yet she had a need to do something. She knew there was so much homework waiting for someone to do them. Someone should also pay a visit to the grocery store and if Ran could be honest, she would have wanted to go shopping with Sonoko, but for her loss, she was on her 23 weeks of pregnancy. Even though she didn’t admit it to anyone, carrying more than her own weight started to give her hard times. Moreover, the loud voices started to get a little one to demonstrate, and even though it was only a good sign that child was okay, it didn’t feel so pleasant. Like Shinichi used to say, that child has a mother’s strength and karate skills.
So, Ran has decided to stay at home and tried to rest. Though she hasn’t known how boring it could be. She got tired pretty easily, so she couldn’t do much at once, and when Shinichi wasn’t home, she was a little lonely. Maybe she should have invited someone for a cup of coffee or tea. Sonoko was always ready to share the latest gossips, and truth to be told, Ran has many other friends who she hasn’t seen in a long time. She wondered how many of them even knew that she was pregnant.
The truth was that Ran missed Shinichi’s company. Her husband had been last few days too busy with cases, and even though he didn’t admit it, Ran knew that Shinichi hasn’t slept well for a couple of nights. Ran wondered if he has even eaten well. Yesterday and the day before yesterday she went to the crime scenes to bring some lunch to her husband, and as for thanks, he has scolded her for exhausting herself. Sometimes she felt like Shinichi stressed so much more about her pregnancy than she did.
The slam of the door made Ran wake up on her thoughts. Slowly she sat up on the couch, ready to stand up and going to see who did come in, but before she did, a familiar voice made muffled greetings: “I’m home.” Ran felt happiness, though it didn’t last long. She recognized the tired voice of her husband and it made her worried, even felt bad. She really hoped that the case was solved by now and anyone didn’t give him any more cases to solve. Actually, she hoped that no one needed that kind-hearted detective’s help. Even though she knew that people need help all the time and she knew that Shinichi was best at what he did, that man didn’t know what being selfish meant. He would work as long as his feet carry him, and his eyes stay open.
“Welcome home”, Ran shouted and took the remote control to turn the TV off. She was ready to stand up when she saw her dark-haired husband in the doorway. He leaned on the door frame, his arms crossed over his chest and a one-sided smile on his tired face. Blue eyes met hers.
“Hey.”
”Hi, dear”, Ran answered softly and smiled. Even though his tired face made her worried, at the same time she felt so much love. She was so relieved and happy to know that her loved one was home again, alive and… well, healthy. All she wanted now was to feel those arms around her and his lips on her hair, on tip of her nose, on the cheek, and on her lips.
“How are you?”
Ran shook her head. Of course, Shinichi was worried about her even though she hasn’t done anything else than stayed at home doing nothing. “We are better than good”, she answered and looked at her belly at the same time when she laid her hand on top of it. “We have been lying on the couch and watched what TV has to offer. We made food and refused aunt Sonoko’s invite to go shopping. Oh”, she said and then raised her gaze on to Shinichi who has his eyes on her big stomach, “and then we have been waiting when daddy comes home.” She kept little break. “How about you? Did you solve the case?”
“Mmm”, Shinichi muttered eyes still on their offspring. “Yeah, we did… Actually, inspector Megure gave me details of the next case…
“Shinichi…”
“What?” Shinichi answered and rose his eyes to look at his wife. “He needs my help, and that case sounds interesting…”
Ran looked away and closed her eyes for a moment. She should have known this. “Well, it seems you have something to do tomorrow”, she said. When her husband didn’t answer, she looked at him again with a meaningful gaze. “Of course, you are going to have the rest of the day free, right?”
Shinichi turned his eyes away from her. “Actually, I thought to go on the study and…” Ran cried out with frustration and Shinichi reacted to it immediately: “What? It won’t take long. I can solve it in no time and then we can spend time…”
“This isn’t about me, Shinichi, it’s about you”, Ran blurted out. She looked at her husband in desperation. “You haven’t had a proper meal for a few days and you haven’t slept well. You just visit at home and then leave again. If it continues like this, you’re going to exhaust yourself.”
“I’m fine”, he answered stubbornly. “Of course, I need to help if MPD needs me! And…” He took a break and glanced at Ran’s stomach. “And we are going to have a baby. We need money…”
“We don’t have to worry about money, we have enough”, Ran interrupted. “And even if we wouldn’t, more than money our child needs a father who hasn’t burn himself out.” Shinichi grinned and looked away without saying anything. Ran took a deep breath. And he said Ran was stubborn? She knew that if she continued this argument, they wouldn’t get anywhere. She knew that Shinichi has made his mind and as much as Ran would fight against it, it wouldn’t help. It would be all the same if she just let him lock himself into the study. She would still be a good wife and bring him a proper meal and coffee, and if it takes far too long, she will go and make him come to bed.
Then she got an idea. Ran looked at Shinichi and smiled gently. “Come here”, she said and patted on the couch.
Shinichi met her gaze and rose his eyebrow. “Why?”
Ran rolled her eyes. ”Just come.” When Shinichi didn’t make any movements to come closer, Ran turned and lay down on her back onto the couch. She heard how Shinichi breath out her name like a warning, but she ignored it. Ran searched for a good position for herself.
“Ran, you shouldn’t!” Shinichi’s voice said and soon her husband stood beside her. Ran couldn’t choose if Shinichi was angry or worried. “Doctor said that sleeping on your back can be bad for baby’s development…”
“Yeah, sleeping”, Ran interrupted gently. “I didn’t plan to sleep. Come here.”
“Moreover, it isn’t good for you either, it can…”
“Shinichi”, she interrupted emphatically. “I didn’t plan to sleep, okay? I just thought to rest a little while with my husband, so sooner you get here with me, the sooner I can get up”, she explained calmly. Then she moved a little to make sure that there would be enough space between her and the couch back to Shinichi. Then she tapped that space. “Come now.”
Shinichi just stood there and just observed her like trying to choose what to do. He didn’t seem to warm up to the idea. Ran on the other hand just smiled at him gently. She didn’t saw any problem here. Why would she? She was the one who carries their child, so she also knows what she can do and how long. Every night she slept on her side or at least she zoned out and woke up on her side. Sometimes when Shinichi turned his back – or rather left at home without her – she may have been rested on her back, but she had made sure that she wouldn’t stay like that more than an hour. And even though she had been warned about sickness and said that it wouldn’t be a pleasant position, she hasn’t felt any effects on her. Though she wouldn’t even try her luck with that. She just wanted to have even a little moment with her husband, made sure that he would take a little break from the work if nothing else. Besides they have done this many times before pregnancy. Usually, after a long day, Shinichi had been snuggled beside her laying his head on her chest and let her stroke his hair when they have talked, exchanged kisses, or just taken naps.
So, she didn’t believe that a little moment can do any harm to her or a baby.
“Alright”, Shinichi finally consented. “But you promise that you will tell me immediately if you start to feel sick or something else like that.”
“I promise”, Ran promised once again. She didn’t care to count how many times she has given that promise in these last months, but it didn’t matter. She just made sure that Shinichi gets to the couch on her side. They searched for a good position for a while before Shinichi lay his head on her chest and put his left hand on her belly.
Ran felt those dark hairs tickle on her neck and it made her smile. When her left hand rose to pet those dark hairs, she pressed her cheek against the top of his head. She smelled a familiar scent and Ran realized how much she has missed him.
“It’s pretty big already”, she heard him saying. Ran opened her eyes and look at her stomach.
“And it’s going to grow more”, she answered. “There is still fifteen weeks… Your mom told me on the other day that at some point when the child has grown up enough, you can feel when they have a hiccup.”
“Really?”
“That’s what she said.” Ran smiled and lifted her right hand to catch his hand which still rested on her stomach. His fingers intertwined with hers. ”She also told me that when she waited for you, she usually kept tv controller on her stomach, and when you got hiccup, it flew on the floor.”
Shinichi moved and soon Ran saw his face. She needed to do everything just not to laugh at that man. She knew how much Shinichi hated it when Yukiko told anything about him to anyone, and it showed on his face. Ran giggled.
“Riiiight”, he mumbled and lay back down. This time he buried his forehead against her neck. “You shouldn’t believe everything mom says. She always exaggerates everything.”
“Don’t say that”, she laughed and continued to pet his hairs. “Or can you prove it wrong?”
“Whatever”, Shinichi muttered before he moved and set his face against Ran’s neck. She smiled. It was funny how after all these years, after everything, she still felt so strongly about him. Ran has heard people said that at some point it wouldn’t feel the same as before, like the fire, it would fade and it is just part of life. Nothing special. And it has been kinda a scary thought. Yet she still felt the same burning on her when it came to Shinichi. He still made her feel all butterflies in her stomach when he took her in his arms and Ran felt like she could never get rid of that feeling. She loved him so much, and she felt being loved. It was like they were meant to be, like… like…
Then she remembered something.
“Today I heard a very old song from the radio”, Ran said quietly.
“Oh?” Shinichi mumbled. “What was it?”
Ran stared at the ceiling. She tried so hard to get the name of the song on her mind, but she couldn’t remember it. It was weird because she still remembered the melody and some words. Many years ago, she has listened to that song so many times, because it has been beautiful, so romantic…
Well, it still was.
She started quietly hum what she remembered. At some point, she got how that song started and little by little lyrics came to her mind.
“Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling. Do you feel my heart beating? Do you understand? Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming, or is this burning an eternal flame?”
She smiled. She hasn’t been sure that she could have remembered those lyrics without the song playing in the background, but she did it!
“That’s it?”
Ran awaked on her thoughts. “What?” she asked before she realized. “Oh, that song?”
“Yeah”, Shinichi answered without moving. “How it continues?”
Ran just watched his husband’s dark hairs before she realized that she didn’t pet him anymore. She started to stroke his hair again and closed her eyes. She started to hum again trying to remember more.
“I believe it’s meant to be, darling.” Ran felt a smile against her neck, and it made her smile too.
”I watch you when you are sleeping, you belong with me. Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Or is this burning an eternal flame?
Say my name. Sun shines through the rain. A whole life so lonely, and then come and ease the pain. I don’t wanna lose this feeling…
Hmmm…”
She kept a little break trying to remember how it went after that. She wasn’t sure but she decided to continue with what she remembers:
”Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling. Do you feel my heart beating? Do you…”
Her fingers stopped to play with Shinichi’s hairs at the same time when her quietly singing faded. She listened for a while, waiting for her husband to say something like the last time, but nothing happened. She just heard stable, calmly breathing.
A triumphant grin came to Ran’s lips. She felt like a winner! She had made him take a break from his work! Even a small nap would do good for him and Ran really hoped that after he would wake up, he would decide to spend the rest of the day with her and come early on the bed with her instead of working the whole night without break.
Though she knew this kind of thing would happen with him. She has known Shinichi for her whole life, and she knew better than well all his flaws when she married him. Yet it didn’t bother her. She loved him with his good and bad habits, and she wouldn’t change anything. She would be at his side whatever he would do, and she knew that Shinichi would do the same to her.
”Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming”, Ran continued quietly happy smile on her face, ”or is this burning an eternal flame?”

.

Making it to the edge of the bed was a chore in itself, especially when his legs were still jelly from his release.
But he was as numb to them as he was certain she was to the slick and slime that clung on her sweet, saintly, tainted face, an aftermath of their wild improvisation five sinful minutes ago.
Embarrassed yet achingly turned on by such sight, Shinichi wiped her up during the interlude with the tissue he initially planned to jerk off on, and Ran giggled inwardly at his belated modesty.
“I, uh, sorry,” he grovelled.
“N-No, I wanted that too,” came her meek reply, but said with unmistakable glint in her eyes that indicated she truly wanted the mess.
Something must be done with the influx of blood rushing back his groin.
She took the tissue from his hand and proceeded to dab her own face with it, “Mm, I’ll do the cleaning up.”
“You sure?” he hunched over her, hand letting go of the tissue to allow his arms to cage her on either side of her legs. “So sure,” she crooned. A sign. ‘Now do what you need to do.’
He brushed his nose against her neck, smells her sakura scent, her sweat and his essence mixing on her skin and his mind reeled with rekindled lust. “I owe you big time,” he nibbled on the soft spot under her ear, forming a trail of fresh love marks down her collarbone, “Please, let me treat you right.”
His hum on her skin must have made her head swirl for she mechanically leaned back, upper body propped only by an elbow. That gave him the chance to slide one knee on the bed and pepper her with open-mouthed kisses on the smooth skin of her neck and shoulder. They didn’t know when she finished wiping, when her blue school vest was hurled away, when half of the buttons of her white undershirt came undone. They just happened like magic.
Skipping her chest area, he slid his body halfway down, traced with the tip of his nose a path from under her chest to her navel. “May I take this off?” He asked, hand traveling to the zipper of her uniform skirt. “Yes,” she mumbled, letting the piece of clothing slide so easily down her legs unto the floor, leaving her with her white lace panties that looked so sexy paired with her long-sleeved undershirt of the same color and black knee-length socks.
She’d been very open and honest of her wants lately, and god, was it a turn on. It wasn’t like he was forcing anything on her but instead everything was happening naturally, unbelievable as it may sound. As if Ran woke up one morning knowing exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done by him. He never thought he’d see her so pumped, so driven like an automobile engine on fifth gear.
He looked up and admired her breathless face. She stared back, eyes glassy and lips slightly parted, one hand behind his hair and the other balancing herself on the sheets. She was beautiful. Tantalizing. His one and only queen.
A queen deserving of a throne.
“Ran,” he climbed the bed completely and flipped so that his back was flat on the bed, crown against the base of the headboard, “c’mere.”
That instruction alone was sufficient to let her follow through. With a blush on her face, she crawled on her knees and slung one thigh over his shoulder, giving him a majestic view of her spread and vulnerable above him. Warm space and damp underwear were the only thing keeping them apart. She pinned his hands with hers on either side of his face, and her gentle palm squeeze and dark needy eyes were enough to convey that which she badly wanted.
He casted a smug smirk and kissed her inner wrist, “As you wish,” before he hooked his arm over her right thigh. His left hand went over her other leg, holding her hips in a not so comfortable but still snug position above his chin.
He breathed her in, filling his mind with the familiar scent of early afternoon and blooming flowers and sex and Ran, before sliding her panties aside with two fingers until he’s face to face with the most heated, most delicious part of her.
“Don’t hold back, love,” Shinichi cajoled, his icy breath against her pink, puffy skin making every hair in her body tingle. He kissed her inner thighs first, lifting his head up to work his way closer to her aching center, and in a matter of seconds her entire wetness was enveloped in his hot, hungry mouth.
He amused himself with the expected gape and throb and writhe of her face from the initial contact, her cheeks turning impeccably pink and flushed, stray bangs clinging to her damp forehead. Thighs shuddered under his fingertips, and he had to strengthen his already firm grip to keep her from toppling over and suffocating him with them. He traced her folds with his tongue, up to her clit where he stimulated her like he’s tickling the roof of her mouth.
Seeing her various blissed out reactions everytime he ate her out was his favorite. He had always tasted her with his knees on the floor or his stomach flat on the bed. But this was a first. Her visage from this vantage point hit differently, and he felt like he snagged the VIP seat to an exclusive screening of his favorite X-rated movie (not that he watched plenty). She looked sinfully immaculate above him with her undershirt undone, green tie dangling loose around her neck. One hand gripped the top of the headboard while the other twined through his soft, disheveled hair. Her hips moved like waves against his face, back and forth, slow and sensual, matching the rhythm of his tongue.
So erotic. So hot. His queen. All his.
“Mmn,” he hummed his enjoyment against her, the ripple of vibrations eliciting a delighted whimper out her throat. This is his queen stripped off of any inhibitions, giving in entirely to pleasure. He pressed an angled smirk against her core, mumbled, “you're so wet,” before spreading her legs further apart so that she sat flat and secure on his face.
Despite his air space reduced to half, he was much too eager to please her more to even think of pausing, or breathing. Lifting his chin up, his nose bumped along her clit as he skillfully slid his tongue inside her. Immense pleasure echoed in her voice as she gasped the loudest, most feminine sound he had ever heard her produce in her lifetime.
From then onwards he couldn’t even think to stop, delving his tongue deeper and deeper her tight walls, the perimeter of his mouth drenching with her warm juices. He drove her mind into frenzy with the way his lips massaged her outer creases while fucking her quite literally with his tongue. He ate her like his most favorite meal, drank her like fresh water in the middle of drought.
“Shini-... hngh, d-don’t, ahh, th-that...” her voice came ragged, choppy as his tongue returned to lap on her clit in as much a maddening pace as how he did inside her that it sent her eyes rolling to the back of her skull. She seemed to take a liking there the most, fingers burying deeply in his scalp, thighs squeezing him unconsciously and her hips straddling his face in figure eights that complemented the wonderful drawls of her ‘ah’s and ‘yes’ and the airy gasps of his name.
Her breath turned shallow, moans turned into low cries. She was nearing, yes, and there he hit a wonderful spot when her cries went a pitch higher, all the more reason to concentrate his tongue on that one specific point over her swelling bead.
"Th-There! Yes yes yes, oh god-” The explicit string of words he could only guess was involuntarily uttered by those angelic lips was enough of an indication that she’d reached a height out her own universe. Her muscles fluttered and constricted vehemently against his tongue, knees buckling, trembling against his cheeks.
And there above him his queen unravelled, unmindful of her own glorious, contorted expression and the sudden buck of her hips down his face. He opened his mouth wide, catching and tasting everything she rutted on him, wanting all of it and more. He didn’t cease lapping as her fluids dripped down his tongue, his lips and chin, bitter and salty and heavenly, exactly how Ran had always tasted.
Pretty much, he did it. His queen loved her throne.
Her tear-stricken cheeks and astounding amount of come in and all over his mouth were proof.
Slowly, Ran’s fingers retracted from the headboard and her hips raised up to give him adequate breathing space. He hadn’t paid much attention to how close he honestly was from passing out inasmuch as he believed the lack of air was from witnessing her orgasm up close.
Both breathing laboriously, they caught each other’s eyes for a searing gaze, her eyes showing signs of overstimulation and bliss. With his back hand, he wiped his mouth clean of her juices to at least make his face look more presentable under her. But that only made her face heat up like he was doing her again, causing her to hide behind her palms.
“I-, that was...I was... so- I’m sorry!” Though she couldn’t form a straight sentence, he knew exactly what she meant.
He chuckled lightly, licked the corner of his lips for a final cleanup, before shifting both of their weights to a sitting position, she on his lap. “I wanted that,” he gave her a chaste kiss on the lips, “Really, really wanted that.”
She blushed furiously, both because of his remark and the subtle taste of herself from the kiss.
“You want that too?”
She nodded shyly, “Yes.”
“Want more of that next time?”
She dug her teeth on her lower lip. “...Yes.”
“That’s nice,” he acknowledged with a smirk, the image of her beautiful writhing face above him burned in his mind forever, “’cause I do too.”
