Congratulations My Hero Academia for providing, possibly, the biggest and longest legit straightbaiting yet in shonen history.

Bonus points that their final chapter was released on yaoi day.

#first of all absolutely no hate to izuocha #i actually really like them together romantically or not. i love their dynamic so much #but you must know just how hilarious and absurd it is #that this series started with them crushing on each other #and then ochako's attraction to deku became an important part of her character #BUT they completely turn it around and made it about #deku's meaning as a hero and being saved #and ochakos expression of love and understanding others #like. that is legit very compelling and a beautiful relationship #but they did not become A Couple. at least- nothing confirms nor denies it #just like how a queerbait relationship would be #absolutely hilarious. i honestly love how it ended like this #doesnt mean i love the ending tho. oh boy its weird and legit bad in many areas #But this? I have to rant about this part of A Study in Scarlet because... it seems to me that Holmes didn't just discover the hemoglobin test at the moment Stamford and Watson walked in. It seems more like he seized the first opportunity to tell ANYONE. Like he simply couldn't contain his joy and desperately needed to share it with an audience. He actually BOWS after giving Watson a demonstration.

Also... "I found it!" are the first words Watson hears from Holmes. He may as well mean "it" to be Watson. He's found IT: his audience, his best friend, his soul mate. His path in life.

This first interaction sets the pattern for their entire relationship: Holmes performing for the best and most high-value audience one could hope for while Watson gets front row tickets to the greatest show on earth. Five stars.

#the spirit of su minshan possessed me for a minute there but like. i'm fine with it #jin guangyao #he did crimes??? good for him 😌#editing this post to add that while the tone here is clearly joking #i really am fundamentally still engaged with this fandom #and with this book #almost exlcusively because of my enjoyment of jgy #even xiyao is secondary for me like i love it and i'm ride or die for it obvs #but jgy as a character is the main draw for me. and he would have me by the throat even if there was no zewu-jun #(tho i think jgy's life would be more depressing for his absence obviously)#but he is just. /clenches my fists!!!#THE most compelling character in the story and i cannot stop thinking about him!! cannot will not!!#who else in this book has his range? who else can be the doe-eyed idealist AND the spy with blood on his hands who ends a war?#who else is two different greek tragedies and at least two separate shakespearean tragedies rolled into one antagonist #an antagonist who but for the POV of the novel could very easily have been the protagonist #whose moral event horizon is so deeply entwined with his own trauma and abuse that there is no way to meaningfully separate #the violence he does to others from the systemic violence that was done to him for his whole life?#who else in this book manages to get five separate sect leaders utterly obsessed with him no matter how you choose #to interpret that obsession?#no one!!! that's who!!#ain't no one else in the jianghu doing it like lianfang-zun and that's just a goddamn fact

I do feel like these designs maybe portray the clearest arc out of all of them so far. I like that #some of it came from a bit of necessity which is really fun that mirrors the actual play format thats cool #(necessity being freshman year riz is pretty much a huge block of red flannel lmao. kinda stole figs canon color coding for a bit)#(and he's got the owlbear jacket from taping the games in sophomore year... so I cant give fig the big red blocking until #junior year lmao. coincidentally this forced me to be a bit more dynamic with her concept which is great)#her second pair of shoes very sonic tho. I kinda enjoy that lol #tbh I really love that canon gorgug is like in a pair of chucks 24/7 that is SO funny for a barbarian I hope to keep the energy going #with class swap fig I think a barbarian who wears like collector sneakers is awesome. the foot support is so important to their work #the general idea of a hyperfem girlypop barbarian still ticks for me tbh. idk enough abt the zeitgeist to know if thats passé now or not #but doing Fashion on ur job of bodily tearing ur opponent apart with the least flourish possible is just a hit for me #her knee brace is from like an injury back in her cheer days that she got by overexercising in hope of being good enough that #the team couldn't let her go. the team then used that same injury as a pretext to let her go #I think abt her arc tbh... fig's thing in canon junior year abt the point of her rebelling.
