I finished my interpretation of John's very chill and unconcerning hair accessory!

The leaves are actually large sequins, and the bones are sculpted from Fimo clay after a rather disconcerting time on PubMed looking at papers on the biometry of phalangeal growth in utero... (each leaf is 24mm, and the bones vary from 10-15mm)

You made the unexpected turn into Trolls and i decided it looked interested and followed you! Still haven’t actually watched anything, just kinda immersed myself in the fandom.

the trolls world is just ripe for nonsensical world building, amvs (we callin them fancams now? i'm not sure), and lore mechanics... and then shockingly, trauma dives.

like! because of the kind of media it's in, there are some horrific and tragic implications that are only glanced at, simply left untethered. there's not enough time to cover 2 decades of trauma in an hour thirty minutes for little timmy. But I Have The Time. I will sit with those implications.

and then!!

they get to have their cake and eat it too because of that very same media.

of course they're going to be dancing and singing with the people who only seconds ago tried to eat them! that's just what you do!

of course they're going to tell the people torturing them to death that they deserve to be treated with kindness! everybody does!

the picture it paints for me is of these like. incredibly anxious little trolls, with a whole culture around an almost toxic kind of positivity with very big troubles, and even bigger hearts. and that's like. joey kryptonite. they almost got me back in the first film, but i was mostly satisfied with the character arcs. so i didn't feel the need to break out the fandom playdough.

and then the third one came in with a steel chair like 'hey what if branch was just one part of an entire tragic family. what if they ALL had decades of trauma because of a bad decision they made as teenagers, which permanently skewed the trajectory of their lives. what if they needed some space to define themselves outside of their Band Titles (and by proxy their role in the family) and were then punished for that decision by the narrative, denying them the chance to reunite again. what if a promise sat forcefully broken for just as long and yet the bond didn't disintegrate. what if the love was still there.'

been hearing rumors that the "i'm always straight" lines may have been cut from the GN and IF that is true, I expect everyone will be super mad about that--and ngl i'd mourn the loss of it too because it has become iconic to me

But. i can't believe i'm playing devils advocate for this, BUT it is not entirely unreasonable for an adaptation of this work to decide it does not want to reference Ronan's sexuality yet......coming to terms with his sexuality is (one) part of his arc in the 2nd book. Adam Parrish being ~the 2nd secret he doesn't want to admit to himself~ , Ronan's catholic guilt homoerotic nightmares and the like, all characterize his sexuality as something he might vaguely be aware of but seriously struggles to openly admit. I don't think he even uses the word gay or any other word to describe himself in the whole series? (unless I'm forgetting something?)

So, idk, it's not unreasonable to want the (hypothetical) audience to also not be aware of it until Ronan is forced to directly grapple with his identity next book.

i think this is one of those things that has become very dear to the fandom over time, but if i look at it objectively without my feelings, i just.....i do understand why someone could conceivably decide that this off-handed bitchy "he's gay btw" joke is not of dire importance for the sanctity of the story 😭 in the 'pros don't outweigh the cons' sort of way....

made a little flower pouch bag charm for my lip balm tin to live in

i used the Mini Popcorn Flower Square on ravelry with two strands of cotton held together, made two, and then added an extra row on both sides where i did shenanigans to make the two squares be attached on 3 sides, and then made a button with a modified popcorn

modified how? just kinda. pulled the working loop through a couple more times to make it rounder. no science was invovled in the making of this pouch

How Big are the Fell Twins?

Well if you wanted to know the In-Game Math Answer to how big these dragons really are, you're in luck! Because ripping dragon models from fire emblems and measuring them in various ways has become one of my favourite pastimes.

The short answer is: yes, the twins are quite a lot smaller than papa Sombron!

I guess what they look like is DLC spoilers probably? So I'll stick the screenshots and exact measurements behind a read more.

To briefly explain how Engage's models work - most character models are lightly sculpted off a starting base, and then the game has a big table of scaling values for each character that changes the length and size of various parts of their bodies.

The fell dragon models fall into this pattern as well - all of Sombron, Nel, and Rafal's fell dragon and great fell dragon models are proportionally identical. But while Sombron's scaling values are all left to default, the twins... are 40% size!

And given their identical proportions to their dad, and the math I've done previously about Sombron's size, I can tell you Nel and Rafal's measurements too!

The twins in their base form are approximately...

16.2 m (53 ft) from snout to tail tip

5.4 m (17 ft 8 in) from snout to vent

13.7 m (44 ft 10 in) from wingtip to wingtip, when their wings are fully extended

Since I've used my other one basically every day since I got it, I decided to make myself a crossbody bag!

I actually made this mini lanyard/keychain pouch first, and that inspired the design of the bag

The lining is a linen I had on hand, but I dyed it myself using Rooibos tea and baking soda!

I've drawn a lot of little comics and doodles in my journal I haven't shared that I think I'll start uploading every once in a while. This one was from probably 2 or 3 months ago.

I like to think that Tweek cries fairly often, because he's anxious all the time and he's neurodivergent- and because he's a child. When things are super frustrating your emotions can feel too big for your body, I'm an adult and I even feel like that and I remember that as a child it was so much harder to deal with. I think his parents kind of try their best but they're really not great at it. I also think that after a meltdown he might have a day where he's fairly nonverbal.

How Big Is Sombron?

I guess this is gonna be a series now where I measure how big various FE dragons are

Anyway, after I measured Grima, I figured the next logical step is to measure the other Fell Dragon and compare. Y'know, since I have all these ripped models lying around.

TL;DR

I took some data from my Grima-measuring post about how tall Fogado and Emblem Byleth are, and used those conversion factors to figure out how big Sombron's two dragon forms are.

According to my measurements, Base-form Sombron:

Is ~40.5 m (133 ft) long from snout to tail tip.

Is ~13.5 m (44 ft) long from snout to vent.

Has a ~34 m (112 ft) wingspan.

(Obligatory Fogado for scale. No Fogados were harmed in the making of this post.)

And the much bigger Great Fell Dragon Sombron:

Is ~117.7 m (386 ft) from snout to tail tip.

Is ~50 m (164 ft) from snout to vent.

Has a ~114 m (374 ft) wingspan.

(See? No Fogados harmed! He's fine.)

Base Sombron, tail not included, is about half the size of a blue whale, the largest animal known to have ever existed. GFD Sombron, tail not included, is as long as 1.6 blue whales.

In both forms, he's QUITE LARGE. So large that he's liable to start my spec bio brain whirring again as I try to figure out how something that big is as nimble as he is. The fuck kind of metabolism do dragons have and the fuck do they eat.

But of course, if you saw the numbers in the TL;DR of the Grima post - you already know Sombron ain't got shit on Grima for sheer size in either form. Seriously. Look at these two - I scaled them accurately with each other with the help of Chrom. Grima is a ridiculous creature.

Methods, in Brief

My methods for this were almost identical to the one in the above-linked Grima post. Almost. The difference lies in how we told the MeasureIt add-on to measure the dragon.

Neither of Sombron's dragon models have a default pose that is conducive to length measuring, and the way the models are rigged makes getting them to lay flat basically impossible. His chest and the back of his neck crumple up all weird if you try it.

So instead I just measured him in a bunch of segments. I went from nose to tail tip and put a point down every two-or-so back plates, and summed it all up after. Like carefully laying a measuring tape along his spine.
