My Hero Academia AU: Ambush Simulation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aight, storytime:
So awhile back, I was thinking about Episodes 4 & 5 of the anime Soul Eater where the gang is tasked with capturing two villains, the zombie Sid and the guy who resurrected him, Professor Stein.  (There’s also the added stakes that if they fail in this task, they’ll be expelled from school.)  After a somewhat harrowing fight, defeating Sid and losing to Stein, the plot twist is this was never a real fight, Stein and Sid were not villains, and this whole thing was just a test that was orchestrated and sanctioned by the school and definitely skewed more toward hazing than actual education.
And I thought, what if that’s all the Vanguard Action Squad was during the Summer Camp Arc?  Just a test orchestrated by UA that skewed more toward hazing than actual education. (Note:  These are the traditional LoV members, so Muscular, Mustard, and Moonfish are not part of this line-up.) At the very least, that would probably be the meanest ruse Aizawa has pulled. And you can't tell me Principal Nezu wouldn't have been all in for this plan.
"It happened once at the USJ. Despite our precautions, it could happen again. Let's teach them how to prepare...by scaring the absolute shit out of them."
Tumblr media
"Ambush Simulation" is playing off my earlier AU comic with Shigaraki being the adopted nephew of All Might and leading a pretty normal life.  The rest of the squad is more or less in the same boat. For context, Touya’s canon divergence is he returned home after the three-year comatose and actually stayed there, but since nothing about that household environment really changed, he’s still an unhinged mess, but that is a whole other kettle of fish best saved for another comic. (Clearly getting a kick out of the prospect of scaring a bunch of kids, including his brother, half to death, though.)  Toga’s home life is rocky at best after ‘the incident,’ but she’s no longer a runaway teen.  Everybody else just kinda fell in with each other.
Their role as a vigilante team was inspired by the series Durarara!, specifically Kadota and his crew for anyone who's familiar. I genuinely forgot the Vigilantes spinoff existed...sigh, it's been awhile and I only recently got back in this fandom. The Vanguard is pretty much living by a 'you're only in trouble if you get caught,' philosophy. (And the nepotism has probably saved all their asses a few times because it doesn't look good for the No. 2 Hero if his eldest son is busted for vigilantism.)
Anyway, there's a few other details that I can't fit in this post, so head over here if you want to read more behind the scenes of making this thing.

Hi there, was hoping I could ask your advice if it’s okay! How might someone relatively new to the Castlevania fandom on Tumblr get to know the community better? 👋 I know everyone is super hyped for Nocturne, so I figured now was a good time to try to become more active in the fandom!
Hello dear, you're absolutely on point! 🕸️The Fandom🦇 is slowly awakening now that the Nocturne sequel is hitting the bend, so this is the perfect time to dive in, I'd say.
Now, I tend to be a fandom hermit personally on here for Reasons, but this isn't about me. Here's some resources!
Follow the tags! I noticed some of the most popular ones are #castlevania, #castlevania nocturne, #castlevania netflix, #castlevania fanfiction, #netflix castlevania. If you have particular character faves, follow their tags too
There are many creatives involved and versed in the Castlevania show&game lore on here. Browse the tags and posts, see what sounds interesting to you. Reblogging or commenting are always good ideas. If you see a piece of meta you like, comment, reblog, send asks, see where it gets you! This fandom has low key gained me some friends for certain.
Here's some blogs from which I've seen plenty of castlevania show (and game inspired) media, I've not interacted with all but worth checking out, mostly going from my side-blog items heh:

This list is by no means exhaustive and I am missing blogs for sure, therefore making this rebagel🥖able for anyone who wants to say hi, self-promote, both, or just add to the list.
Welcome to the fandom!
PS: won't comment on fandom dynamics or conflict, I avoid that as a rule, but remember to curate your experience: use the privacy and block features available. One aspect that (for now) makes tumblr different to other socials is that your fandom experience here is highly influenced by who you follow/see in the tags.
I'll also say the series fandom is *very* vibrant on twitter (or 'X', now, I guess). So if you're up for the latest and greatest, it's usually there. Not sure if you use that platform tho.

Tumblr media
So I made this comic.
Tumblr media
And then I made this one.
Tumblr media
I have others planned for the same alternate universe.
There's too many ideas and too little time to do all the comics I want to do since this is a very slow medium of storytelling.
So I thought, 'Screw it, guess I'm writing a fic now.'
The Summer Camp Ambush Simulation
The kanji on the wooden hyousatsu was too worn, weather-beaten, and altogether rotted out to be clear, but he could tell it used to read Sako.  The house itself had probably been a nice place in some distant past, a comfortable home where a thriving and happy family once resided.  Now, the windows were clouded with grime and mold, the front yard was overgrown with weeds, and the engawa-porch had warped into a terrain of its own.  As he stood before the front door, looking over the address he’d copied from his notes one last time, Aizawa was reluctant to imagine what state the interior was in.  With some disappointment at finding he was in the right place, he let out a tired sigh and rang the remarkably still intact doorbell.
A short conversation.  In and out.  No hassle.
From the other side of the door, a muffled voice immediately answered the bell with an exasperated shout.  “No, no, no!  There are far too many people here already!  I did not sign up for my home to become the halfway house for wayward youths!”
Aizawa frowned and took a strategic step back, bracing himself for possible aggression as a series of rapid footfalls grew louder and louder in their approach.
“Well, who’s here now——”  the voice continued, only to go dead silent when the front door was flung open, aside from a quiet,  “Oh.”
It was odd seeing Sako Atsuhiro without his mask.  He looked younger than he sounded and from the way he stared at him in bewilderment, Aizawa suddenly felt his visit had not been expected after all.  “Good evening,”  he said.  “I have a certain matter to discuss with Todoroki.  I was told to meet him here.”
...
Full chapter available in the link above.
If you want a read a fic where the Vanguard are a vigilante group participating in UA's summer camp by running a surprise attack simulation, plus extra, I gotchu.
I also try to write as much 'in character' as I can if that interests you. No hate to OOC, I just love the challenge of trying to keep true with canon personalities as much as the fan-plot allows.

Where We Start Part 2
Oh, to be in the middle of an outdoor workout routine and be blessed by the sudden presence of a corgi.
This part was originally going to be a little longer, but it was getting a little long already and I need a break to work on other projects for a bit.
...
Also, All Might called in sick with a cold?  Not…voluntarily, I would think.  Tenko probably made him stay home.
*skinny goth physically blocking front door* “No, you’re sick!  You’re staying here and that’s final!  Nobody wants the No. 1 Hero coughing and getting snot all over them.  I refuse to believe you have fans that depraved!”
“But young Midoriya—!”
“If it’s that important, I’ll go keep an eye on the kid, okay?  Here’s a blanket.  I’ll make you some tea and soup before I go.  Hana, watch him like a hawk!”
...this might have to be its own comic.
No. 1 Hero held hostage by a corgi.

Some Speaker Headcanons
Tumblr media
Okay, so last night, for the first time in months, I opened up the document for Right Here, Always. So I may actually finish this fic yet.
But in the meantime, here are some Speaker headcanons I included in the story:
They Don't Travel During the Winter
At least not in the mountainous regions where the weather can turn nasty unexpectedly.
"It’s hard for Speakers to travel in the winter months, especially after storms when the roads are impassable.  Since we don’t want to run the risk of being stranded in the wilderness without aid, we often settle in one area temporarily.  Usually at monasteries where we can earn our keep by helping the monks copy, repair, or translate manuscripts.  It could get pretty tedious.”
...
They Don't Practice Marriage
Or rather, similar to the Ancient Egyptians, they don't have a specific ceremony or rites. Closer to what we'd consider a committed, long-term relationship.
Trevor frowned at her in surprise.  “What brought this up all of a sudden?  I thought Speakers didn’t even practice marriage.”
“Well…yes, we do.  That’s a common misconception,”  she said.  “We don’t hold any specific rites or ceremonies that a church would recognize as a marriage, but we do marry in a sense.  By the standards of my people, since we share a bed and we have a child, the two of us actually are married.  I just thought…your parents were wed according to their faith.  And yours.  There’s nothing that says we need to adhere solely to my people’s traditions.  I suppose I thought it might be important to you.  Is it?”
...
Sypha's Parents
I normally assume Sypha's parents have passed away by the time the series takes place--either by illness, religious persecution, accident or whatever other nastiness the medieval era had to offer--but I suppose the red-haired guy standing in the back of the above group shot could be her father who just doesn't have a speaking role?
Tumblr media
Blonde lady in this shot may be her mum? I dunno. This series does ride on a bare minimum voice cast, so that could be possible. Otherwise, this whole group is probably related somehow.
Ultimately in the fic, I went with the idea her mother died in childbirth, which added some anxiety for Sypha with her own pregnancy. Her father died of an illness before she was old enough to really remember him. Which again adds some depth over how close her own daughter came to losing her father before she could remember him.
...
Anyway, I don't know when Chapter 8 will be done, but it isn't forgotten. I'll get there.

“Simon, I have watched you repeatedly hit a bullseye from two hundred yards while riding at full gallop,”  Catherina said.  “I can’t do that.  Leona can’t do that.  I’m not even sure if our father can do that.”
...
Simon loved his family dearly.
It was just they were a little ‘much’and as a result, he preferred to keep his visits to home short and infrequent.  Supply runs, nothing more.  Even now, he’d lingered in the village longer than he’d meant to, though that was on account of Mother.  He’d meant to leave yesterday morning.  His provisions, no doubt including some well-meaning gifts from family who missed him, were still packed and arranged neatly by the door.  All that needed doing was saddling his horse and rounding up his dogs.  Yet when he had come downstairs, well rested for the four hour journey ahead, he found Mother already awake in the kitchen, staring forlornly out the window.  Sypha had never been a morning person and three growing children had not changed that, which led him to conclude she either hadn’t slept well or she feared he would slip away with little more than a note of farewell.
Whichever it was, she heard his step on the stairs and turned to him with a smile that would have convinced him had he not seen her sadness prior.  Was he ready to leave, she asked.  Did he have enough food?  Was he warm enough in his mountain shelter?  Would he like help preparing to leave?  She sounded so genuine in hiding her heartache from him that Simon only felt a sharp pang of guilt.  He loved her, really he did, and he weighed the selfishness of his desire for solitude against the sadness his departure would bring for his family.
...
He loosed the arrow with a quiet hiss.  It cut through the air like a lightning bolt and struck the doe in a quick, clean shot through her shoulder.  Simon quickly drew another arrow as she faltered, but he needn’t have bothered.  After a moment, the deer slumped quietly to her knees and then collapsed softly onto the earth.  Lowering his bow, the young man made his way out of the undergrowth.  When he reached the felled deer, he knelt and bowed his head.  “Forgive my taking of your precious life.  May your spirit depart in peace, may your body nourish my family and people.”
Tumblr media
Note: His name comes from the Lords of Shadow timeline.
Simon is the enigma of the family, and honestly the one I really struggled with developing.  His sisters are both remarkable in their own way with Leona being the formidable warrior and Catherina the skilled mage of the siblings.  Finding something that would both set Simon apart from the girls and yet balance out their talents was a challenge.
I at first played with the idea that he feels pressured by the feeling of being overshadowed by his sisters, ignoring or even discrediting his own abilities and struggling internally with the idea of living up to his family’s expectations.  But that’s an archetype that’s really cliché, and I wanted there to be more to his character.  Archery was one of the first things that came to mind.  In the medieval period, especially for England, archery was high in demand for the English wars.  Bowmen were crazy strong to the point their skeletons are actually deformed to such a degree that archeologists can identify their bones in dig sites.  So this is not an idle skill by any means.  The strength need to draw a longbow requires years of dedicated practice.
The idea of him living in the mountains came from fur trappers who live in isolation throughout the winter, which led to Simon’s love for solitude and animals.  He keeps hunting dogs, naming them after archangels and war goddesses.  He's gifted with animals, so during his time in isolation, he catches falcons and hawks to train and sell to the wealthy citizens of nearby cities.  He’s also a skilled herbalist, both a healer and a poisoner.
Throughout, he seems to have the quiet bearing and dignity of a shaman or a monk, which aligns perfectly with his mother’s heritage.  In his early years when his personality was first developing, his tendency to wander off to play by himself was a source of concern for Sypha.  Coming from a culture that places value in community, she found her son’s solitary nature odd but ultimately harmless. She doesn’t know it, but in this, he takes after her father, who passed before she was born.  For her peace of mind, she taught him her ability to manipulate fire so that he would never freeze during his travels in the mountains.  Alucard checks up on him frequently, too.
In temperament, Simon has two outward modes of operation and almost zero in between.  For the most part, he has the quieter, more somber elements of Trevor’s character, but like Sypha, when Simon reaches his breaking point, he is perfectly capable of losing his shit.  It’s always a source of awe for the rest of the family and a pretty effective gauge in telling when things have officially gone too far.
In the end, despite his extreme introverted behavior, Simon’s love for his family is boundless.  He’s never hesitated to drop everything when he hears there’s trouble at home and he always comes back for the village festivals.
Key words for Simon:  Independent, resourceful, patient, calm.  The Belmont outrider and keeper of the woodland.

Background Characters I Ended Up Naming
Because background stories for even characters who don't speak is fun.
Tumblr media
So in writing Right Here, Always, I ended up giving some backstory to some of the Dănești survivors. Which was really just attaching names to background characters pulled from the series just so I could have a visual of who I was writing about.  Aside from Demetra the midwife and and her daughter Miruna, none of them had any real depth or character development, but I still wanted to build up their presence and the sense of community in the new village Alucard and company had established.
Thing is...the number of names and occupations mentioned in the fic began to pile up and I eventually had to write down a list to prevent discrepancies in the narrative.
Demetra and Miruna are the exception; I pretty much had them locked in at chapter one since they both play a significant role in the story.
Anyway, here is my reference list, as well as a few screenshots of some of the characters that were assigned a name.
Dănești Villagers
Dorin - carpenter
Costin - smith
Cătălin - Costin’s daughter
Iulia - weaver
Ilinca - baker
Traian - shoemaker
Demetra - midwife and healer
Miruna - her daughter
Toma - farrier
Raluca - his wife
Vali - potter
Sybil - barrister’s widow (now the legal consultant for the village)
Petre and Luca Albescu - a pair of brothers (unknown occupations)
Children
Miruna - Demetra's daughter
Ion
Sanda
Mihai - Sybil's son

“You’ll want to keep the stitches and bandages clean and dry,”  she instructed as she led the way into the greenhouse.  “And if you do get your injuries wet, be sure to…”
Lisa trailed off, noticing the boy’s blue eyes were darting around the room.  Not with his by now customary suspicion but rather in undisguised awe at her collection of raised plant beds containing a boundless variety of herbs, vegetables, and flowers.  It must’ve been a startling sight compared to the dry, cold world of autumn outside, but it wasn’t enough to distract him entirely.  He was quick to notice she’d stopped talking and snapped his attention back to her, not unlike a young pricket watching for wolves.
“The sun keeps the room warm,”  she explained cheerily.  “And the water from the plants provides humidity."  She almost said like a rainforest before catching herself.  A simple ‘peasant woman’ like herself wouldn’t know what that word was, even if she’d had the chance to visit an ecosystem like that.  Matter of fact, Lisa wasn’t even certain if a regional nobleman’s son would know that word, although she imagined the Belmonts could have easily traveled through Europe's rainforests, and possibly Africa and Asia’s as well.  Clearing her throat, she resumed her instructions about keeping the wounds dry as she handed her patient a towel, a cake of soap, and a clean tunic.  “Any questions?”

Doting on the Little One
...
Alucard was always bringing Leona things to play with:  bits of silk ribbon, river stones with a hole worn through them, small toys he’d made.  “I brought you a little friend,” he told her some weeks after she was born and presented a hand-stitched lion with a mane of sienna yarn.  Though the dhampir was always present in their lives, Sypha couldn’t help but notice Leona had become a key motivation for his recent visits.  Ever since she was born, the sight of Alucard’s wolf form trotting up the path to their house had become a common one.  Far from being afraid of a massive canine, there were always delighted gurgles from the baby whenever he was around and her tiny hands were continuously finding themselves buried in fluffy, white fur.  Lately, Sypha and Trevor had taken to leaving her nestled between the great wolf’s forepaws while they went about the daily housework.  “Just don’t get fleas on her,”  Trevor told him, as if Alucard were not a perfectly respectable wolf who wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing.

A Lenore Headcanon I have
Tumblr media
There's no clear inspiration for Lenore in the series. The official artbook states she was supposed to be a 'winter princess,' which Katie Silva nailed.
But as far as an actual vampire appearing in folklore goes, the closest thing we have is a German poem, Lenore, that was written by Gottfried August Bürger. There is no vampire, but the poem has apparently influenced vampire-themed literature. (According to Wikipedia.)
In the poem, a young woman named Lenore learns of her lover's death in the Battle of Prague. Heartbroken, she curses God for her loss, only for her lost lover to reappear that evening. He takes her away from her home, claiming they are going to be married, but as the night continues, Lenore begins to suspect something is wrong.
Eventually, she realizes the man who's ridden off with her is not her lover but is in fact Death himself kidnapping her to reunite her with the dead soldier, condemning her soul for eternity.
So the headcanon. Based on the events of this poem, I like the idea Lenore was made into a vampire by this guy.
Tumblr media
It raises so many questions. Why did he do it? Was it just an amusement for him? I can imagine this could have been a Hellsing-Alucard's brand of, "This could be fun." (Hellsing Alucard. Castlevania Alucard would never.) How did she escape him? Was it an escape or was she on her own from day one? How did she find the sisters?
When my writer's block lets up, I'm going to explore this.
