The League of Morons vs A Summer Camp

All right, so I love the hell out of this nonsense and I want to talk about the Vanguard's plan and how ridiculous it was.

First, most of the crew showed up a night early and…well, then what?  That first night, Dabi says they’re still waiting on a few more people to arrive.  Okay, so what are you all doing here already?

Did Kurogiri warp them back to the bar after they’d gotten a look at the place?  Scouted the area a bit?  You needed seven people for that? Were they that bored waiting for Twice, Compress, and the Nomu to show up?  What were they doing in the 24 hours between this part and the actual attack?  Standing on that cliff and muttering,  “Heroes…”?

Was Toga all, "Guys, I'm tired. Can we go back to the bar already?"

Spinner: "No, as villain protocol dictates, we must stand here menacingly for a minimum of twelve hours."

Dabi: Fuck you, I'm going to bed.

Except for being a scare tactic, having Dabi start a fire was mostly unnecessary. Their goal was to further weaken society's faith in heroes by targeting UA students, so you'd think he'd be a little more proactive in...well, actually harming someone. As it happened, the fire really only to served to announce there was an attack happening.

But I’ll throw the Vanguard a bone here and say this was Spinner’s doing.  Like their original plan was to start a massive fire that would consume both classes and all the heroes in a singular tragedy, but then Spinner said,  “Hey, pump the breaks, people.  We’re here to uphold Stain’s ideals about toppling the corrupt Hero culture.  Do we really want mass child murder as part of our brand?” Sure, he wanted to go after Iida, but he was a specific target since he was on Stain's hit list.

The two copies Twice made of Dabi were virtually useless in a fight since Vlad and Aizawa both took him out so quickly it was embarrassing.  And yet he’s apparently a big enough threat that No. 1 and No 2. can’t handle him.  Go fig.

Endeavor/Hawks:  Oh, no, he’s too strong…

Aizawa/Vlad:  Listen here, you little shit!

Muscular goes and reveals their plan even though he didn’t have to.  They all saw the Sports Festival, they knew what Bakugo looked like, and yet here he is asking Deku where he he can find Bakugo as if he was going to answer him.  Yes, he didn’t think there was any harm in telling him since his plan was to kill Deku anyway, but alerting UA to the fact they were looking to kidnap someone is still just hubris.

Going after Bakugo in the first place was a dumb idea.  We can probably credit that one to Shigaraki because only he would look at the violently temperamental teenager raging on national television and think,  “Yes, he seems like a reasonable person to negotiate with.”

Gonna drop in some actual light criticism here: Given the inequality issues that arise in the series later, targeting the heteromorph students for recruitment purposes would have been a smarter move for the LoV.  They’re all part of a demographic that has a justified reason for being dissatisfied with society, so there would have been a believable chance of the LoV thinking they could sway some people to their side.

But hey, the League of Villains was on a learning curve. Give 'em a break.

He totally saw Aoyama here.  Or at least he heard him because he clocked that there was something weird about that bush and he was going to go check it out…and then Twice distracted him and Dabi has an total ADHD moment and forgets what he was doing.

And it's not because Aoyama was the spy. Nobody in the Vanguard knew.

1.) Shigaraki says he tried and couldn't figure out where the camp was, but AFO figured it out relatively quickly. So if even his successor doesn't know who the spy was or called on that resource, then why would AFO tell anyone else in the group?

2.) Moonfish, Muscular, and Mustard were all apprehended, but none of them ratted out Aoyama, as someone with nothing left to lose would. Neither did Kurogiri when he was later apprehended, but that one may have been a loyalty matter. So I think this was a case of AFO saying, "I have a source of info and you don't need to know who it is." Because at the end of the day, AFO is an arrogant narcissist who's definitely not placing all his eggs in one basket. Aoyama wouldn't be an easy spy to replace, so of course AFO would want to limit any chances of him being exposed.

So this was Dabi's screw up.

Speaking of forgetting things, Dabi also straight up forgot they had a Nomu because he thanked Twice for reminding him they had a Nomu.

Sir....how the hell do you forget you have a Nomu?

Toga was supposed to get blood from at least three people.  She failed.

Twice had a simple job. Create clones. He succeeded, but the only two he made were Dabi and I refer you to the previous point on how useless they were.

Spinner and Magne’s roles were a diversion. Distract the Wild, Wild Pussycats and give everyone else the opening to find and kidnap Bakugo.

They did pretty well. Up until the point they were almost caught and Kurogiri had to bail them out. Also Spinner lugged the giant, over-the-top blade contraption all the way there only for Deku to destroy it.

However, they do deserve some credit for making probably the best strategic decision of the group that night, and that was taking out Pixie Bob. We saw on the first day of the camp that she was able to hold back a class of twenty students with an army of earth creatures she was simultaneously controlling. That would have been a huge problem, so for the purposes of their team, good on them for removing that obstacle.

Underrated squad members right here.

Mustard was a legitimate threat for same reasons Dabi and his fire was a threat, plus he brought a firearm into the fight. (I want to know what the other villains thought when they saw that.)

But instead of putting him in the center of the fight where he could do some significant harm, they placed him on the outliers and all he did was knock some students unconscious and everybody made a full physical recovery, showcasing the gas he emitted wasn’t all that lethal and didn't cause any long-term complications. (Again, maybe this was Spinner's idea of Stain's ideology on not indiscriminately massacring children. "Guys, I'm telling you! That's fucked up!")

The Nomu (effectively brain dead without orders) did more damage than any of them, which makes the previous point that Dabi forgot they had it even funnier.

And finally, Mr. Compress was missing for half the night and then almost came in clutch by fulfilling their main objective plus extra credit, only to nearly blow it with his showboating. Seriously, they could have gotten away with both Bakugo and Tokoyami had they just booked it while the going was good.

But no, Compress had to make a dramatic production of it. When he first snatched the kids, he could have just left and Deku and company would have had no idea what happened. Had he just kept his mouth shut and left, they wouldn't have known he even existed. Then as the Vanguard members were leaving through the warp gates, he goes and does it again, giving Aoyama enough time to fire at them with his navel laser, something that also could have bee avoided had Dabi just checked the fucking bush!

The Vanguard Action Squad won by sheer dumb luck and their collective incompetence actually succeeding is the most hilarious thing about this arc. In the end, three members of their crew were arrested.  (Although I think everyone was secretly relieved they lost Moonfish.  Even if he was on my side, I’d be actively worried that guy would kill and eat me in my sleep.)

Yet this self-important twerp is smiling like they actually did something to be proud of here.  All Dabi really accomplished personally was grab a marble (coincidentally the correct marble) before Shouto could, which is borderline more standard older sibling behavior than actual villainy. He literally lost two separate fights in one night and called it a win.

This arc was a five episode Scooby-Doo trap going wrong and succeeding.

Seriously, I hope that after the warp gates closed, they all just looked at each other and immediately started calling each other out on everything. Like Dabi slapped Compress upside the head and asked him what he'd been thinking having 'one last bow' before they got away. Spinner yelling at Dabi about how the clones did nothing. And there's Bakugo all, "I can't believe I've been kidnapped by a gaggle of morons."

Fake it till you make it at its finest.

This camp needs therapy

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but I definitely think those kids need therapy. Like how do they make it this far” Djali muttered to the rest of the mental illness gang

Despite being in a summer camp they still held meetings, they couldn’t make drugs/potions but they can still take care of each other.

“No offense Tommy” Kid said looking at the avian on the phone screen. “don’t worry I’ve been emotionally and mentally fucked over with no childhood and lots of parental issues” Tommy said in the most matter-of-fact voice he can muster.

After a solid minute of wheezing on the floor Grumbot spoke up “I don’t want to let them into our little group, because it’s our thing but, maybe we could talk to the counselors about having some kind of therapy for them?” Everybody agreed.

“yeah to be honest it’s kind of concerning that they haven’t gotten actual therapy, like we are not exactly the most mentally stable group of people but I swear every day a couple of those kids are having a breakdown, all of them thought it was normal” Zia muttered crossing her arms.

“like The centaur creeper hybrid from cabin 6? I think Their name was Fin. Anyway during capture the flag right before I was about to win they tackled me” Zia frowned as she remembered that night.

“yes and I believe we were allowed to do that” GB remarked.

“yeah but it wasn’t playful… it’s like how Fractal tackles” everybody grimaced at the memory of meeting fractal.

Zia rolled up her compression top sleeve revealing purple and green hand shaped bruises and black and pink marbled claw marks. Djali started hissing defensively “where is that fu-“

“They apologized” Zia quickly rolled down her sleeve “it looked like something came over him. Fin tackled me and I tried getting them off of me, One thing led to another and I think I cut his hand? Then he started cut into my arms and threatening me” Zia fiddled with her stupidly long pink hair muttering about needing X to send her more hair dye.

Tommy spoke up “what did he say?” His tone was somewhat worried.

“I think he was arresting me? And when I try to fight back again he said something like “I being The second highest in Pandora am authorized to use lethal force. I recommend you stop resisting, at this rate I’m going to cut off your arms” “ Zia grimaced.

“And then they snapped out of it got away for me and started crying and apologizing to me.. but he kept saying something like punk?” Zia was finished with her braid.

Tommy thought for a moment “did they say Ponk” Zia nodded and Tommy huffed

“It's just some good old fashion daddy issues, you know the Old my parental figure has become evil and I don’t want to be anything like them. A classic” this time no one laughed at Tommy’s joke too deep in thought

Summary of the meeting this whole fucking camp needs an actual therapist. (and that therapist will need a therapist)

Hot Take

BUCK IS THE BEST PERSON TO GIVE DATING ADVICE TO CHRIS, HEAR ME OUT.

Okay, I know we're all laughing about women fleeing Buck and how awful he is at relationships, but I don't feel like that's true.

First of all, just because a relationship ends, doesn't mean that it FAILED. Dating is as much about getting to know YOURSELF, what you want out of a relationship and what your own boundaries are as it is about getting to know the person you're dating. It's about growing, and learning from your mistakes, and I feel like Buck HAS done that. I'm not saying he's a perfect dater (the Taylor/Lucy thing, wtf was that?) but also, he has gotten better.

With Abby, he grew from fuckboy Firehose to someone that is considerate and thoughtful to his partner. (I don't LOVE that we credit Abby for his growth, since he was the one that made the initial boundary to not meet up right away because he didn't want to fall back into that sleep with anything that moves mindset, but she is mostly credited with it canonically, so we're going to use it.) Also, she didn't leave because Buck was a bad boyfriend or anything. She left because she needed to find herself after her mom died, and that's it.

With Ali too, she left because of his job, because she couldn't handle being with a first responder, which is a genuine concern for a LOT of people. It's hard to love someone with a dangerous job like that, and not know if they're going to come home at night. It had nothing to do with who Buck was as a boyfriend.

With Taylor, that whole relationship was a mess, IMO, them getting together when they did was a recipe for disaster. Obviously, Buck shouldn't have asked her to move in because he was scared to tell her about Lucy, but I'm not saying he's a PERFECT dater, I'm saying he's learning, and that's what's important. When he did admit to the kiss, Taylor is the one that decided that it wasn't a hard line for her, or she would have broken up with him, living together or not. It probably would have been awkward and complicated, but it was all of those things when they DID break up later in the series. From this relationship, Buck learned that it's better to be alone than it is to be with someone for the wrong reasons.

He has had a lot of growth from s1 to the end of s6, and that is clear in his dating.

Now, everyone that's saying Eddie should go to Bobby or Chim for advice, I'm going to say this: It's easy to date when you immediately find the person you're going to marry.

Let me be clear, I'm not saying that Madney & Bathena don't have their own struggles within their relationships, but Bobby and Chim got pretty luck, they found women that they clicked with and then eventually fell in love with almost as soon as they went looking.

When Bobby decided he was ready to move on from Marcy, the ONLY person we actually see him dating in the show is Athena, and they end up married.

After Tatiana leaves Chim, and he decides that he's going to be himself and look for a genuine connection, Maddie is conveniently placed in front of him.

I'm not saying that either of them are bad daters, or bad partners or anything, but we don't really SEE them date. Maybe it's because they're older and they already know what they're looking for and what they can and can't accept in a relationship, but realistically, it's wild to think that you're going to fall in love and get married to the first person that you find when you start dating. The majority of people have to date around and actually look to find the person they're meant to be with, not magically find them right out of the gate.

Especially for a FIRST first date, it's all about figuring out how dating works, what is and isn't expected and acceptable and navigating getting to know a new person, as well as yourself, and I think Buck is the clear best option when it comes to experience about women. He's had several girlfriends and also convinced only God knows how many people to sleep with him, so he's obviously charming, and pleasant to spend time within a romantic situation.

Also, God knows nobody is asking Eddie for dating advice, since the man only married his girlfriend bc she was pregnant and then had to be told (BY BUCK) that he deserved to be happy in a relationship instead of sticking it out for everyone else.

Anyway, this has been on my mind ever since that interview came out with everyone making fun of Eddie for going to Buck because he's had (based on what we're reading about Natalia's character) 4 "failed" relationships, but again, I truly believe that a relationship ending does not automatically mean it failed.

Also, Eddie goes to Buck because they're CO-PARENTS & SOULMATES but all of this other stuff too 😂

random utdp/summer camp observations #2: kaede aka-mess-u

in the Nice AU, all the v3 characters really have the Backstories and Personalities they have in the bulk of the game. i say this because while i'm not done with v3, i'm told there's some kind of Memory Weirdness, so i want to clarify that.

i also want to Clarify that because our bestie Kaede is still such a little freak and i love her. she still has her crush on Tsumugi:

So I made this comic.

And then I made this one.

I have others planned for the same alternate universe.

There's too many ideas and too little time to do all the comics I want to do since this is a very slow medium of storytelling.

So I thought, 'Screw it, guess I'm writing a fic now.'

The Summer Camp Ambush Simulation

The kanji on the wooden hyousatsu was too worn, weather-beaten, and altogether rotted out to be clear, but he could tell it used to read Sako.  The house itself had probably been a nice place in some distant past, a comfortable home where a thriving and happy family once resided.  Now, the windows were clouded with grime and mold, the front yard was overgrown with weeds, and the engawa-porch had warped into a terrain of its own.  As he stood before the front door, looking over the address he’d copied from his notes one last time, Aizawa was reluctant to imagine what state the interior was in.  With some disappointment at finding he was in the right place, he let out a tired sigh and rang the remarkably still intact doorbell.

A short conversation.  In and out.  No hassle.

From the other side of the door, a muffled voice immediately answered the bell with an exasperated shout.  “No, no, no!  There are far too many people here already!  I did not sign up for my home to become the halfway house for wayward youths!”

Aizawa frowned and took a strategic step back, bracing himself for possible aggression as a series of rapid footfalls grew louder and louder in their approach.

“Well, who’s here now——”  the voice continued, only to go dead silent when the front door was flung open, aside from a quiet,  “Oh.”

It was odd seeing Sako Atsuhiro without his mask.  He looked younger than he sounded and from the way he stared at him in bewilderment, Aizawa suddenly felt his visit had not been expected after all.  “Good evening,”  he said.  “I have a certain matter to discuss with Todoroki.  I was told to meet him here.”

So technically flying is not allowed on the dream SMP so none of the kids know how to fly!

this includes the hybrids that have wings. 

Anyway we decide to have a flying day! (sponsored by the wings club) 

 corvid: what do you mean you don’t know how to fly ducky?

Fuego: I know how to flutter and glide but I didn’t know I could actually flat my wings!

The kids with wings didn’t know it was banned it was just they could never physically fly. Their muscles would cramp if they attempted to flap off the ground higher than they can jump. 

Let’s just say they were shocked when the other kids started to fly freely without any pain or dropping down to the ground.

The only person that knows how to fly in the DSMP group is poly or more accurately Hiraeth Learned during her dimension traveling.

The only kid that refuses to fly a symphony. He originally had wings when he first hatched but since he was neglected and his egg was rotting they had to be amputated.

He still has a bit of bone in his back where his wings would’ve connected. The bit of bone prevents The Elytra  from properly connecting to symphony meaning they’re just gray unlike everyone else’s.

Let’s just say after a breakdown Grumbot tell Symphony a little story about an avian regaining his cut wings.

Maybe during the summer symphony gets a pass to go to a server where a specialist helps him and when he comes back he has beautiful yellow green and blue wings. (And some hermit therapy) 

I wonder what all the kids Wings would look like?
