6 Types of Protection Magick
Tumblr media
There are many ways one can do protective magick. In this post I'll be going into 6 of the most common and accessible ones!
Please understand that even one "protection magick type" can be done in an infinity of ways, some of which are closed to certain practices.
Disclaimer: based on my experience and research. I don't claim to know all truth. Further study is encouraged!
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
#1 — Magic circle
Tumblr media
The magic circle consists of creating a protection and delimiting a sacred space for magic and/or ritual.
The magic circle is probably one of the most popular protection methods thanks to its encouraged use in Wicca. However, other traditions have made use of similar concepts, such as in the afro-brazillian Umbanda concept of "chain".
The circle can be physically drawn on the ground, delimited by the members inside the circle, or visualized.
Casting one is fairly simple since it can be done in different ways, either in groups or solitary practice. You can use tools such as wands, chalk or physical objects to draw it, but what matters most is intention and successful visualization.
Before casting a circle it's important to have everything you will need already within grasp and inside the circle, since once created it is advisable that no one leaves it until the work is complete.
#2 — Amulets, and Enchanted Items
Tumblr media
Enchanted Items are a very popular and effective form of magic, especially for personal use. These are often common objects that have been enchanted for protection.
They are often necklaces, rings and other jewelry since these are the most practical to carry around without suspicion. However, they can be any object.
Amulets can be created via enchanting, charms, or by asking deities and spirits to bless them with protective qualities.
The material and imagery used to create the talisman is also important in determining the kind of job it wants to do.
#3 — Sigils and other drawn Symbols
Tumblr media
Sigils and Symbols can be used both for personal protection and for warding spaces. Here I am also including Runes.
They can be carved into objects, drawn upon skin and surfaces, or even tattooed.
However, before using any sigil, symbol or rune it is of extreme importance that you know exactly what they do, and know as much about them as possible. Especially if you plan on drawing them on your skin (either temporarily or permanently).
Unless specifically used only for protection purposes, inadequate use of them can lead to disaster. Even then, the type of protection they bring can vary.
For example, a protection sigil that works by hiding you from threats is different from a sigil that fights threats that come to you. It's important to set or to know how their protection work so that you do not come across unwanted results.
#4 — Prayer
Tumblr media
My definition of praying: focusing on sending a message to a higher spiritual power, be it an entity, deity or energy.
Prayers are a great way of manifesting protection, though since you are asking for it to a higher power you must understand that it may choose to not grant it, or not grant it in the way you expect.
Plus, it is very important to know where you stand with this energy or entity. Do you work with them already? For how long? What is the nature of the relationship? Do you truly know them well enough to ask them for this? Is it really appropriate?
Cultivating a good relationship and having manners can be decisive factors for manifesting this sort of protection. Plus, it's always good to "give back" in some way. To receive something, something must be given eventually.
#5 — Affirmations and Visualizations
Tumblr media
Words and the mind have innate power. Affirmations and visualizations are great ways to manifest protections because they rely only on yourself.
They are easier to do right if you use them together with other methods, or if you have physical representations of the work being done. To be successful one must focus, "feel" them happening, and maintaining that without help can be difficult. Frequent practice will help you get the hang of it.
There are also techniques that make affirmations and visualizations both more powerful and easier to accomplish.
#6 — Warding
Tumblr media
Warding is when you set up a semi-permanent protection in a specific place, such as your house.
It can be done in many different ways. One of the most common is to have an object or place designated as the "holder" of the ward, which should be well kept.
Warding will be more powerful if you are frequently cleansing the space and recharging the ward. Leaving it alone for too long can weaken in or make it lose its properties altogether.
Some plants are used for this kind of protection, since they (usually) stay in place, can be powerful magical allies, and you'll be checking on them often anyway. The ones usued are often those with thorns, threatening-looking leaves, or even poison.
Note: always be very careful about bringing poisonous plants home, especially if you have children or pets.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
This was an overview of the most common types of protective magick. A lot of protection spells and works fall somewhere within these categories, or are a combination of them.
Each tradition has a certain way of going about spiritual protection, so if you are exploring an specific path, I encourage you to not only research about protection in general but to also look into what unique techniques your path has to offer!
Many blessings and thank you for reading! ♡

I was going to just deal with it in my own way but I think I need advice. So there’s two gifts Hecate REAAAALLLY enjoys from me. Old used keys from thrift stores and pennies. This isn’t an issue at all. I love giving her these all of the time.
The problem is that now I have SO MANY PENNIES that her entire offering bowl is overflowing. (We’re talking well over a dollars worth) And my fam cannot know about the whole Offerings to Ancient Gods/Goddesses thing so I can’t really get a bigger bowl. (It’s also in my bedroom so I can do food offerings in there)
Have you guys had this problem? I’m thinking I might just get some paper and learn how to roll pennies and then tape it shut or something. So that I have more room to … you know, give her even more pennies. 😌
I don’t know! this is what works for us but I’m running out of room and I do NOT have the heart to get rid of the pennies in some way.
Thoughts? 😌

just did a little sigil writing session that's left me feeling so energised and ready to face anything, so wanted to share! i burnt some cinnamon & bay leaves before i sat down to create the sigils. i then anointed them with some frankincense essential oil & am now leaving them to charge with some crystals on my alter. the crystals pictured are tiger's eye, amethyst, malachite, labradorite & prehnite. carved my new sigils in the candle that's burning too!
side note: ive started using charcoal discs to burn my incense & such and thought the dish i was using was heatproof. it was not. i now have a hole in my carpet. oops. learn from my mistakes people - be very careful with hot stuff lol
also, i have a witchy playlist that i put on whenever i sit down to do my stuff & when i finished & closed my circle the chorus for season of the witch by lana del rey started up and it just made me feel super charged! highly recommend playing music whilst you're practicing

Fellow witches and practitioners, I come with a sweet, simple and closet-friendly tip/reminder!
✨You CAN make your altar DIGITAL✨
Let me explain:
For multiple reasons, you may not have an altar and (unlike myself) you don't need to feel bad for not having one set up properly. You can take your preffered game that has furniture placement and make an altar in it. You can also use any drawing medium to create one.
For games, Sims comes first to mind. It is very easy with the Realm of Magic pack to create an altar, but you can also get the base game for free and delve into CC (custom content) and pick basic elements of an altar (cauldron, candles, broom, knife, wand, etc.) but also embelishments. Skyrim has the possibility of making an altar in your own house (altho I am not very sure about it, as it's not my chosen medium). Animal Crossing New Horizon also gives us a plethora of items that we can create an altar with. Bonus points for the portability of a Switch, you can bring your virtual altar with you all the time. I've been experimenting with Genshins' housing system and the posibility of creating an altar in there too, I am sure it can be done.
For drawing, making one in your Book of Shadows could be an amazing addition to it! You can also make it so you can place some items on it, as example crystals or plant-offerings. It doesn't need to be artistically created, just the existence of it is enough. You can use pictures or drawings that others made if that would be easier for you, either printing the picture or putting it into a medium as Goodnotes or a PDF you might have on your phone is also a good solution. You could also make it your desktop/wallpaper if you chose so.
Please note that it may not feel like a real altar, you can't interract with it in the same way you would with a physical altar. Treat it as a mini-altar version, a visualiser that will aid you in your prayer, spell making and meditation. Just having one, be it physical, virtual or paper-based, may bring you some happiness and tune you in with your practices. It's also impostant to state that a lack of altar doesn't make you less of a practitioner! Walking slowly is still walking, it matters more that you enjoy yourself and you find importance in your practice.
Stay safe folks ❤️, blessed be!

Why so many cis men hate the rule of three.
Something I see a lot is the difference between lady witches and LGBT+ witches reactions on the rule of three vs cis men witches.
So let's start it by saying Wicca has always prominently feminine and LGBT+ heavily coded.
It's been used most by women and LGBT+ people as a freedom and liberation from the patriarchy and oppression.
While LGBT+ ppl and women who don't believe in the rule of three will just say things like
" I don't believe in that"
" I'm not a Wiccan"
" that's not apart of my craft, respect my craft."
it's very rarely degrading, shaming or out right cruel when ladies and LGBT+ ppl put up a boundary with those that believe in that rule. Now there can be fights when respect isn't given but normally it's not outright hate or cruelty.
But with cis male witches and pagans that's where I notice it's just straight up degrading and cruelty being pointed at wiccans especially at the women..
Now could it be because cis men shaming and hating on things that are mostly popular with LGBT+ people and ladies is disgustingly common.
Yes
That's probably it.
But I can't help wondering if there's a darker hate for it..
I've literally seen a cis man being praised for saying
" I don't believe in that femme bullshit."
" Fuck your karma"
" Don't come at me with that bullshit."
" if you believe in that, you're a fucking idiot!"
It feels so very personal that they hate that rule so much..
The Rule of Three
also Three-fold Law or Law of Return
If you don't know is a belief held by some Wiccans, Neo-Pagans and occultists. It states that whatever energy or action a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times and you have no control over it.
What is coming for you is coming for you.
There is nothing you can do in stopping it.
There is no excuse, no victim blaming, no justifications that you can make if you've done wrong.
When I think of that, I think do these cis men hate the rule of three so much because it states their actions will always have consequences and there's no escaping those consequences unlike so many other beliefs that let them off the hook for doing horrible things.

I'm confused about deity work! (I'm forgetful and have some religious trauma)
I'm new to paganism and I've seen deity work mentioned and I've taken a look at it and find it's something I wanna do at least eventually.
I have seen it said many times in places that there is stuff to do daily and there is a lot to go with it but I'm really forgetful and I don't know if I should even go with it, partially because I have some religious trauma and partly because I'm scared I'll make some Gods angry if I forget something important or do something wrong on accident, So I'm a little confused as to what to do. And do i have to stick to one pantheon? I find both greek and norce deitys as well as som other ones i feel a connection to. (Side question, would my meladaptive daydreaming affect this at all, because sometimes it involves the gods as characters)
If I do deity work I have to keep it hidden because I live in (other that 4 people 2 being toddlers) a conservative Cristian household. And what would happen if one of the 2 toddlers messed with my alter? And how would I hide it? I am also in a relatively poor household and am scared I can't get all the needed things for my alter.

Protection Magic: Some Important Concepts
Tumblr media
---------------------------------------------------
Long post based on my experience and research. Meant to be informative. I don't claim to know the absolute truth.
---------------------------------------------------
Protection magic is any type of work meant to protect A from B, and there are many ways that this can be done: prayers, charms, talismans, tokens, casting circles, setting up wards, visualization. The list can go on and on because it can be done in many different ways and combining many different methods.
But methods are not the topic of this post today. No, today I would like to talk about some key concepts to keep in mind before getting started on making protections and keeping them effective.
The Importance of Cleansing
Tumblr media
Before doing any protection work I like to do a cleansing. Imagine you have an open water bottle, and because it was open, a lot of dirt has found its way into it over time. You decide to seal the bottle so no dirt comes in, but you don't pour out the old water, so you end up sealing it in. Yes, you'll keep more dirt from coming in, but the muck is still there.
It is easier to see this being applied to a physical location, but I personally also apply this to personal protective tokens. I feel they work better when you are taking care of your energies by doing regular cleanses and managing internal negativity.
Important Definitions
Protection ≠ Banishing ≠ Cleansing
I feel a lot of people are under the impression that these are all the same. I think they all work together towards a similar goal, but their jobs are different.
Protection: protecting something from something
Banishing: driving out entities
Cleansing: clearing out energy
You can do cleansing, banishing, and protection at the same time, but that doesn't mean they are the same. You can do a ritual including all of them, but you can also just do a cleansing or just do warding (which is a form of protection).
Note: cleansing is not restricted to “negative energy”. You can cleanse any kind of energy. Exemple: a friend of yours decides tarot is not for them and hands down their deck to you. If you wanna work with that deck it is highly advisable that you do a thorough cleansing of it and then infuse it/consecrate it with the energies you want. It's not that your friend has “bad” energy, it's just that you might not want to work with the same energies they have, or use a tool that has someone else's energy in it.
Tumblr media
Not Necessarily a Lazy Job
One important thing with protection magic is that no matter how strong or how successful are at doing it is that it is not failproof. I have yet to see protection work that lasts forever, and there may be a few reasons for it.
Negativity also comes from within
Imagine you have a fish inside an open fish tank. Just like the bottle example earlier, you decide to put a lid on so you prevent leaves from falling into the tank and polluting the water. However, there's a fish, a living being in there, and it produces waste. It is impossible for the fish to live without producing waste. If you don’t regularly clean the water, ammonia and fecal matter will build up.
In this analogy, you are the fish. I am the fish. Humans literally cannot live without ever having a negative thought or feeling, it is part of our existence and we have to live with it. No one lives in constant bliss.
That doesn't mean we have to live in the muck though. That's why cleansing yourself is important.
No one is immune to the environment
Here I have another analogy for you. Imagine you're facing a harsh winter, but you are safe in the security and warmth of your house. Your house is protected from the cold so you don't even mind it. However, you have to go outside. You dress up, go out and you feel very, very cold. You could perhaps wear something warmer, but it will never feel the same as home. Yet it is better than going outside naked, no?
Same thing for energies. You can have protection, but depending on how strong the energy in the environment is you are sure to feel it to at least some degree. However it's best to have some protection than no protection at all.
And there is a difference between Feeling an energy and dwelling in it vs Feeling an energy and not letting it latch onto you.
Energy can wear off, and new energy can build up
Energy is ever changing, ever moving. If you do a strong protection spell once, it can last for a long while, but if you forget about it it will likely lose a lot of its strength over time. Some of what you put out there might wear off and be substituted by something else. The energy can also grow stale, which means it becomes less effective.
But if you do a strong spell every month you will not only make your protections stronger, but also constantly renew the energies and not let them stagnate.
So keep doing cleanses and every now and then give a boost to your protections so they are refreshed and recharged.
Note on "Negative Energy"
One of the main reasons someone might choose to do a protection ritual and a cleansing is to ward off negative energy. But is that really needed? What is "negative energy"?
Negative energy might feel like a sense of heaviness, dread, pain, sadness, feeling ill, angry, sad or anxious. Emotions produce and attract what we can call "negative energy", the same way it can make us feel those things.
And while I personally think nobody wants to feel them, we must understand they are not always bad at their core.
Tumblr media
The uncomfortable feelings they can cause may also be a gateway for healing and transformation. Pain tells us there is something that needs to be worked on, that needs change.
If you are feeling negative, ask yourself why. Why does this bother me? What makes me feel this way? What can I learn from this pain?
If you happen to feel negative energy, it is good to cleanse and protect. But I advise you to always look for the source to see what can be done about it or what you can learn from it. Don't just try to use spellcasting to run away from your shit. Own your shit. Deal with it.
Otherwise, it will keep coming back no matter how much protection you have.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
It is impossible to always be free from “negative energy” all the time, no matter how strong your protections are. But protections can absorb some of the blows that you would otherwise take and ease the ones you were going to take no matter what.
Protection magic alone will not solve all your problems. It is a great tool to help you keep your center and remain grounded, but it is not usually something you do once and forget. It is a continuous, ever evolving work, meant to be used in conjunction with other types of spellwork.
And most importantly, it can give you some comfort through the many trials of life.
Thank you for reading, and good luck on your path! ♡

Five Tips and Tricks for Beginner Witches and Wiccans
I, a Wiccan of four years, am here to tell you a little about the craft, how I work with it, and how it works with me. This will be a basic beginning post, nothing too complicated, but I will have follow-up posts that touch on more detail.
Some topics I may write about later on would be: The Lord and Lady of Green Witchcraft and Other Deity Work; Tarot and How Divinations Can Strengthen Your Magic; Kitchen Witchery and How To Use the Craft in Your Cooking; Intentions and Manifestations: How You Can Influence Your Life; and, finally, Herbs and Crystals: Why They're Important.
I am a follower of Hekate, the Greek goddess of magic, the night, ghosts, witchcraft, the moon, and necromancy who resides in Hades as Persephone's companion. Of course, this is only what the extent of the internet states along with my own personal research. I have an altar to her which I light the candle on when I have time. I have not been contacted by her, so I have no deity work, but I do respect her deeply and have often sent gifts home with a friend for their Persphone, another goddess I respect, altar (with who they do deity work).
The first tip: Read. If you have even the slightest idea or inkling that you may be or are interested in Wicca/Witchcraft, read up on it using nifty internet sources or try and find an occult or Wiccan supply store near you. If it isn't for you, fine, it's not for everyone. But, if you think it might be the thing you've been looking for, read some more and do some personal digging to see if you just like the idea of the magic or if you feel a strong connection with the Craft. If you just like magic, then maybe you should read up on non-practicing Wiccans, but if you feel a connection to the Craft, you may be a witch! Only you can make that distinction.
The second tip: Find something you're good at. Finding a skill you are proficient in may help you find out what kind of magic you practice. There are multiple variants of Witchcraft, and they are separated by the kinds of magic they use and how they execute them. Do research on the different types of Witches and think about what kind of spells you've been practicing and which ones have been more successful.
The third tip: Feel the magic in your heart and think carefully about your actions. Any Witch or Wiccan will need to be careful with what he or she says because of threefold returns, a belief mostly found in Green Witchcraft's codes of conduct that states everything you do will come back threefold. Any Witch, however, should watch their actions as we are connected to nature and the elements themselves, making the Karma (if you believe in it) we experience that much more potent and powerful.
The fourth tip: Be careful with spells. Even a simple spell can go awry without proper experience. Try something easy like a protection jar or a calming tea. Do not attempt any negative spells. Do. Not. You should never curse anyone. Ever. Hexes and Jinxes are often accidental, and Voodoo is simply intentions and muddled to me, I don't quite understand it. But, you should never ever cast a spell with hurtful intent. Especially against other Witches! You draw from the same well, and the Karma, or whatever you wish to refer to it as, will be multiplied intensely. You can't just 'take back' a curse, it's not an accident. It is a purposeful intent that you seek to create and carry out. Be. Careful.
The final tip: Practice Grounding. Grounding is a form of drawing and returning energy from and to the Earth and the elements. It is also a great way to focus your energy and can even be a form of meditation. I suggest grounding before and after you practice your craft and at any point you need strength. Depending on your level of focus and how much energy you need, the time you require to ground energy will vary. I suggest being as close to the ground as possible, and to try and face North. Focus all you can on drawing energy up from the ground or allowing it to flow through you and back to whence it came. It's always good to send energy back after you've borrowed it, as loose energy can hang around your area after you've finished your Craftwork for the day.
If any of your questions need to be answered, feel free to ask them. I would be happy to help to the best of my ability, and I know I would have liked someone to help me and compare experiences to when I was a baby Witch. Goodbye for now!

Does anyone know how to get one of those satchet/spell bag spells to stop working?
So I did my first spell a week ago (one of those spell bags with a sachet, crystals and herbs) to help me sleep better, and boy does it work! But it also gives me extremely vivid, extremely weird dreams that leave me feeling tired when I wake up. I would like to break the spell I guess but i cant find anything online that says how to do that. (Im probably just asking the wrong question tbh). I set the bag on the other side of the room from me and its helped a little, but I still get weird dreams.
Tl;Dr spell gives me weird ass dreams and im tired. Please help me make it stop LMAO.

Spell Jar and Bag
A simple spell that you can put in a glass jar or a tiny bag. I used a self love spell for myself. You can use these jars and bags for setting intentions, in a practice/ritual or just to place on your altar.
🌙 How to Make
You will need:
❤︎ Pink Salt
❤︎ Lavender
❤︎ Rose petals (Pink or Red)
❤︎ Amethysts (Purple stones, gems)
❤︎ Clear Quartz
❤︎ Something to put it in (Jar or Bag or Bowl)
Once you have all the items mix them together. I would recommend doing some research to find a spell or ritual that utilises these materials. There are a variety of self love rituals out there online and in books, pick a spell that will benefit you. I used my jar when I did self care activities, while the bag I used it to cast a spell for me to love my self. Please note that the effects can take awhile until you notice them woking.
