Securing a promising career path after completing a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a paramount concern for students and their parents alike. The dynamic landscape of the tech industry demands not only a solid academic foundation but also a set of practical skills and attributes that make a candidate stand out.
How employers set placement criteria for CSE Graduates?
Employers, cognizant of the rapidly evolving nature of technology, have established specific criteria for B Tech CSE placements (as mentioned below) to identify candidates who not only possess the necessary technical expertise but also demonstrate adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a holistic understanding of the field.
Academic Excellence
Academic performance serves as the initial benchmark for employers when assessing potential candidates. Most companies seek candidates with a consistently strong academic record, especially in core computer science courses. A high Grade Point Average (GPA) is often indicative of a candidate's ability to grasp complex concepts, which is crucial in a field that is ever-expanding and demanding.
Relevant Coursework and Specializations
Employers look for candidates who have delved into specialized areas within the broad domain of computer science. For instance, proficiency in machine learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or software development can set a candidate apart. Companies often require specific skill sets based on the nature of their business, and candidates with coursework aligning with these requirements are more likely to be shortlisted.
Hands-On Experience and Internships
Practical exposure is highly valued in the tech industry. Employers actively seek candidates who have engaged in internships, co-op programs, or relevant industry projects during their academic tenure. These experiences not only demonstrate a candidate's ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios but also highlight their adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Coding and Technical Proficiency
Proficiency in coding is a non-negotiable skill for B Tech CSE graduates. Companies often conduct coding assessments or technical interviews to evaluate a candidate's coding skills, algorithmic understanding, and problem-solving abilities. Candidates who excel in coding competitions, contribute to open-source projects, or have a strong GitHub profile stand out in the eyes of employers.

While technical skills are crucial, employers also place significant emphasis on soft skills. Effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are highly valued. Graduates who can bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams are considered assets in the workplace.
Adaptability and Continuous Learning
Given the rapid pace of technological advancements, employers seek candidates who demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning. A willingness to adapt to new technologies, frameworks, and programming languages is a key criterion for placement. Certifications, online courses, or participation in workshops showcasing a candidate's commitment to staying current in the field can positively influence employers.
Problem-Solving Skills
The ability to analyze problems critically and devise effective solutions is a trait highly sought after by employers. During the recruitment process, candidates may be presented with real-world problems or case studies to assess their analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong logical reasoning and a systematic approach to problem-solving enhance a candidate's employability.
Networking and Extracurricular Activities
Active participation in professional organizations, industry conferences, and networking events can enhance a candidate's profile. Employers often value candidates who demonstrate a passion for their field beyond the academic curriculum. Leadership roles in student organizations, participation in hackathons, or attendance at relevant conferences can showcase a candidate's commitment to their chosen field.
Project Management Skills
In addition to technical prowess, employers appreciate candidates who can effectively manage projects. The ability to plan, execute, and deliver projects within deadlines is a critical skill. Candidates who have led or contributed significantly to successful projects, either academic or extracurricular, are viewed favorably during the recruitment process. LaRue Burbank, mathematician and computer, is just one of the many women who were instrumental to NASA missions.
4 Little Known Women Who Made Huge Contributions to NASA
Women have always played a significant role at NASA and its predecessor NACA, although for much of the agency’s history, they received neither the praise nor recognition that their contributions deserved. To celebrate Women’s History Month – and properly highlight some of the little-known women-led accomplishments of NASA’s early history – our archivists gathered the stories of four women whose work was critical to NASA’s success and paved the way for future generations.
LaRue Burbank: One of the Women Who Helped Land a Man on the Moon
LaRue Burbank was a trailblazing mathematician at NASA. Hired in 1954 at Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory (now NASA’s Langley Research Center), she, like many other young women at NACA, the predecessor to NASA, had a bachelor's degree in mathematics. But unlike most, she also had a physics degree. For the next four years, she worked as a "human computer," conducting complex data analyses for engineers using calculators, slide rules, and other instruments. After NASA's founding, she continued this vital work for Project Mercury.
In 1962, she transferred to the newly established Manned Spacecraft Center (now NASA’s Johnson Space Center) in Houston, becoming one of the few female professionals and managers there.  Her expertise in electronics engineering led her to develop critical display systems used by flight controllers in Mission Control to monitor spacecraft during missions. Her work on the Apollo missions was vital to achieving President Kennedy's goal of landing a man on the Moon.
Eilene Galloway: How NASA became… NASA
Tumblr media
Eilene Galloway wasn't a NASA employee, but she played a huge role in its very creation. In 1957, after the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, Senator Richard Russell Jr. called on Galloway, an expert on the Atomic Energy Act, to write a report on the U.S. response to the space race. Initially, legislators aimed to essentially re-write the Atomic Energy Act to handle the U.S. space goals. However, Galloway argued that the existing military framework wouldn't suffice – a new agency was needed to oversee both military and civilian aspects of space exploration. This included not just defense, but also meteorology, communications, and international cooperation.
Her work on the National Aeronautics and Space Act ensured NASA had the power to accomplish all these goals, without limitations from the Department of Defense or restrictions on international agreements. Galloway is even to thank for the name "National Aeronautics and Space Administration", as initially NASA was to be called “National Aeronautics and Space Agency” which was deemed to not carry enough weight and status for the wide-ranging role that NASA was to fill.
Barbara Scott: The “Star Trek Nerd” Who Led Our Understanding of the Stars
Tumblr media
A self-described "Star Trek nerd," Barbara Scott's passion for space wasn't steered toward engineering by her guidance counselor. But that didn't stop her!  Fueled by her love of math and computer science, she landed at Goddard Spaceflight Center in 1977.  One of the first women working on flight software, Barbara's coding skills became instrumental on missions like the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) and the Thermal Canister Experiment on the Space Shuttle's STS-3.  For the final decade of her impressive career, Scott managed the flight software for the iconic Hubble Space Telescope, a testament to her dedication to space exploration.
Dr. Claire Parkinson: An Early Pioneer in Climate Science Whose Work is Still Saving Lives
Tumblr media
Dr. Claire Parkinson's love of math blossomed into a passion for climate science. Inspired by the Moon landing, and the fight for civil rights, she pursued a graduate degree in climatology.  In 1978, her talents landed her at Goddard, where she continued her research on sea ice modeling. But Parkinson's impact goes beyond theory.  She began analyzing satellite data, leading to a groundbreaking discovery: a decline in Arctic sea ice coverage between 1973 and 1987. This critical finding caught the attention of Senator Al Gore, highlighting the urgency of climate change.
Parkinson's leadership extended beyond research.  As Project Scientist for the Aqua satellite, she championed making its data freely available. This real-time information has benefitted countless projects, from wildfire management to weather forecasting, even aiding in monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Parkinson's dedication to understanding sea ice patterns and the impact of climate change continues to be a valuable resource for our planet.

If I meant something to you.
toxic!Simon 'Ghost' Riley x Reader
You want him, but does he want you? Part 2 :> Part 3 :< Word Count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
Whatever you did, you always found yourself being a disappoint to your parents.
First, it was getting rejected from the university your parents intended you to go to. Then, it was working at a job that didn't utilise your degree. And now, it's complaint after complaint for being in a 'relationship' with some they didn't approve of.
"Honey, I just don't think he's the right one for you..." Your mother complained on the phone for what felt like the thousandth time this day.
You rolled your eyes exasperatingly, happy that she couldn't see your annoyance through the call.
"Ma...you haven't even met him, I don't see why it's such a big deal, I'm finally out of your hair anyways, isn't that what you wanted?" You argued.
Everyday felt like a battle for your parent's time and affection.
Living under the shadows of your siblings was a pain. Your older sister had pursued a law degree at a top university when you were just in high school, and moved abroad to practice at one of the best law firms in the US. Your younger brother, on the other hand, was in their 2nd year studying Aeronautical Engineering at the same university as the elder. You felt like the odd one out in every field.
And here you are, stuck working in retail even though you complete your Bachelors degree in Computer Science.
Whatever you did, just was not enough for your parents.
So you saved enough money from your job, took out a small loan and made the decision to pack your bags and move to the Midlands, which was just regionally higher up than where you initially resided in your family home. How funny was it that you were the last sibling to move out?
After weeks of working your ass of at your new 8-6 job...still in retail, one silent evening after taking out the trash, you found yourself coming face to face to your neighbor.
And to say to he was attractive was an understatement. He had a tall tower-like frame, height ranging anywhere from 6'2 to 6'4, his scarred face was decorated with dirty blonde, short yet soft, hair and a slight stubble. His face, though rough, looked almost model worthy and held a permanent angry face, eyebrows furrowed and jaw clenching as if it hurt to open them.
"You got a staring problem, love?" He scoffed at you, the first time your met. You stumbled over your words, eyes wide as saucepans.
"!- we- um..who..who are you?"
The blonde chuckled at you sarcastically, "Your neighbour, Riley, you won't see as often so close that bloody mouth of yours."
And he was right, out of 7 months of living at your new flat, you'd seen him only a handful of times. You often found yourself questioning his occupation, why exactly he hangs out and about the area for a week, then just suddenly just disappears, like a ghost.
Tumblr media
You'd learnt from the other residents that he worked within the military, whether it was the marines, the air force or the army, you never knew, until one faithful morning, you found yourself nestled against his broad warm chest, both of you hungover from the block party that all of the residents had been invited to.
"Hmm...mornin'" He grunts out at you, and the slightly reddening marks running down his neck and the bruising hand prints on your waist told you enough about the previous night.
You stiffen next to him, but his rough skin grazing against your skin urges to continue to curl up beside him.
Fast-forward another 5 months, it's been nearly a year of knowing 'Riley' and nearly a year you'd seen anyone from your family. You've always wanted to know how long they would be able to go on without you...and you'd finally got your answer.
You've learnt a lot of things about 'Riley'. For starters, his full name was Simon, though everyone in the building referred to him by his last name (you'd pestered him too much, and he finally caved in and allowed you to call him by his first name). He was almost 10 years elder to you and his striking face was usually masked with a black balaclava or those disposable ones.
"Ma, I'm happy, why can't you just be happy for me?"
"Sweetheart, why don't you come home for the weekend and we can finally meet this man. I mean since you're exclusive and everything."
"We...we're not that level yet-"
"Your older sister's getting married and she's only 4 years older than you.-"
"Why do you keep bringing her up? What's she got to do with this?"
"Honey, listen, me and your father are happy you're with someone. I mean this is the first time someone actually liked you right?"
Ouch.
"It wouldn't hurt to meet the old fella, no?"
Ah, one important part I forgot to mention.
You weren't dating Simon.
In fact, you guys never really established a relationship between the two of you. When he was home from deployment, your evening usually consisted of lazing about after work, wine in hand, Simon walking in, a few words exchanged here and there about his work-
Oh, and the night ending with a good rough fucking.
The morning would come by and you'd walk into your shift, your hickey-adorned chest and neck covered with a black turtleneck although it was the middle of August (and against the uniform policy).
So one night you decided to break away from his dominating kiss, and sit him down for a heartfelt conversation-
"Why'd you want to complicate things," he sneers, "we're just fuck buddies yeah?"
"Excuse me? So, what those 5 months didn't mean shit to you?" You scoffed, rather offended that he looked down at you, just like your family.
"You're old enough to be my kid, what make you think this was gonna go anywhere?" He stands up, lighting a smoke, knowing you hated the stench of his cigarettes in your room. It was always your room, always your flat. You can't remember the last time you even went to Simon's place, if there ever was a time.
"Who has a kid at 10? And why'd you keep fucking me? And I'm 24 fucking years old, Jesus, why does that not go through anyone's thick ass skull?!"
"Calm down love, thought this arrangement was mutual, I've got pent up frustration from the military, you're pent up 'cos no one else wants you-"
"Those nights didn't mean anything to you?"
"You don't mean anything to me." He asserts furiously. You studied him, the glimpse of that comforting man who stroked your back and kissed your forehead post-sex really wasn't there.
The fuck does this guy think he is?
"Get out."
"Done."
And he gets up and leaves, blowing a puff of smoke as if to scent the room. Just like that. Wow, was there anyone in your life that actually cared about you?
All those Wattpad stories taught you that the guy usually fights for his lover, screaming back saying that he won't leave without a fight, arguing that that the pair deserved each other. And yet, here you are, sobbing in the shower, unable to differentiate whether your body is getting soaked from the water or from the river of salty tears streaming down your dull, lifeless face, all because the guy you wanted never truly wanted you back.
You felt used, mainly your body. Rubbing yourself full of soap just caused your mind to flash back to his thick calloused hands massaging every inch of skin.
When you occasionally saw him at the building get together, which you wonder why he even attends considering he just hates and complains about everyone (everyone but you of course), you'd find yourself glued on the spot, lips quivering, tears threatening to spill again- and the throbbing. Man, the throbbing you felt between your legs. If it wasn't for his dick, you'd really be wondering why you craved him so bad, because it's definitely not his nasty personality.
And every time you open your mouth to say something to him, to call him over, to greet him, hell you should be cursing him out in front of everyone, he just stormed out with his head down with what looks like a combination of embarrassment or grief.
Until one night, you get a phone call from your older sister, the unsaved number appearing unfamiliar to you. Your hesitant to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Heyyy," She drags out her words, as if to waste time. You can tell your mother meddled in between, "So, I'm having the engagement party by the end of this month, and um...you free to come? No worries if you can't."
You pause, did she even want you there?
"Sure."
"Cool. Um, Mum says you're seeing someone, you can bring 'em if you want."
"Sure."
"Yeah, dunno if it's serious enough but there's enough space in the venue."
"Sure."
There's a pause on the other line.
"Hey can you say anything other than 'sUrE'?" She mocks you. Your eyebrow twitches in amusement.
"Did you just call to brag about you and your fancy ass engagement party? And the audacity to not send an invite, if you don't want me there, just say it. I'm not a baby anymore." You frustratingly answer.
Your sister remains quiet on the other line and you can tell you struck a nerve.
"I- listen I know we never get along but can you please come? Ma keeps mentioning you, surprisingly, and- and we haven't seen you in months, you don't even reply to the memes on the family group chat..."
You blink. "We have a family group chat?"
Tumblr media
The rest of the month was empty, and although you were thankful for no more surprising run-ins with Simon, you missed having a warm body next to you. You learnt from one of the residents that he's been deployed for 3 weeks, this particular one shorter than others.
He confused you, Simon. He hated the idea of being in a relationship with you, yet he did 'relationship things' with you. He disliked when people assumed you two were a couple in public, but he always had his arm around you protectively. Not even education was this stressful.
And as much as you wanted to sit and let the misery marinate into your mind, you knew the date of the engagement party was nearing and you knew you couldn't come empty-handed.
By the end of the 3rd week, you knew Simon had come home, recognising the sound of the heavy footsteps entering his flat next door at 3 in the morning, you being awake from all the stress your high-maintenance sister had thrown suddenly at you. But you couldn't help but notice the sound of a softer treads following his. Maybe he got a pet?
That night, you had trouble sleeping, unsure whether it was the stress of trying to impress your family or the light sound of the headboards of next door creaking. That sound was familiar, reminding you when he was over at your place, rocking gently inside of you, though you question why he's not with you this moment. Usually you'd find him at the other side of the door, tired eyes resembling those of a stray puppy looking for a place to stay.
You close your eyes, your mind racing to the thought of the burly man on the other side of the wall rubbing himself to the thought of you. You sink into the bed, disregarding that unignorable pulsating feeling.
Tumblr media
Saturday morning come, and you stretched contently, knowing that you finally had the day off from work. But that short-lived happiness dimmed when you checked the unread notification blasting through your phone.
7:29 A.M. #####:- hey listen i meant it when i said i wanted you there. pls come. #####:- it wouldnt just make ma happy but me too #####:- u gotta be there to make look better haha im joking
You had a feeling that she was not.
7:56 A.M. #####:-and uh, bring your guy as well pls, ma's so excited planning this wedding she wants to get started on the next one too lolol #####:- also she thinks your lying :/
Great, now there's actual pressure to bring someone.
Your morning dose of caffeine didn't hit today, as your body feels heavier than usual as you trudge all the way to your doorstep. When the last time you actually left your apartment if not for work?
Forcing yourself to look decently good, you make your way to your neighbour's doorstep, knocking so softly you almost tried again, until the door abruptly open, revealing a wet toweled Simon.
An eerie silence captures the atmosphere, consists of his eyes drinking in your disheveled appearance after almost a month, and yours undressing him, as if he wasn't already standing almost-nude.
He opens his mouth to say something but you beat him to it, "Listen I know you've been deployed for the past 3 weeks, but listen I need a favour, I know you hate me and don't want to be with me but I really need a date to an engagement party, and I hate men and men hate me so I don't know anyone but you, and here me out, but could you please take some time out of your month to please be my date, I know you don't like me like that, which makes no sense to me 'cos you're in that mask almost the same number of times as you're in me- just please give it a thought-"
There's a cough behind Simon.
A half nude woman runs past you, head down in shame, smilingly guiltily as she tiptoes out of his room. She heard it all, you thought.
You look at Simon, suddenly recollected last night's events, the 2nd footsteps, the headboard banging. It all made sense. You really didn't mean anything to him.
Simon shifts on his feet uncomfortably.
"Surprise?"
its's 2 a.m. as i post this...why do my brain cells suddenly begin to work post-midnight I've decided to start a tag list! -> lemme know you're interested to be tagged in my future posts! tags -> @lilliumrorum

How much schooling does each of the 141 have? I’m a filthy American, so just imagine the equivalent.
John Price knew university wasn’t for him. Left high school and went straight into trade school. Probably something like construction or electrical work. He likes it enough, but he worries about his prospects longterm. While in the military he gets his bachelors in military defense and strategy. He has the degree framed in his office, but he never really looks at it.
Simon knew that college wasn’t an option. So he goes into apprenticeship, works as a butcher. He’s probably a Sargent by the time he realizes he has an opportunity to actually get a degree, probably gets a bachelors in military studies and a minor in war history. He never brings it up or talks about it, but you can trick him into talking about all his favorite history fun facts. He has no idea where that scrap of paper is, probably in a box somewhere.
Soap always knew he was gonna go to the military, it was simply how soon he could get in there. He does end up getting his bachelors in chemical engineering with a focus in explosive engineering while he’s in the military. Graduated early. Will bring that shit up whenever he can. His family has the degree on a shelf.
Kyle went to uni before entering the military. Double majored in cyber security and computer science, minored in psychology cause he’s extract like that. Gets his masters in cyber security while he’s in the military. He has all his degrees on his wall in his office, and in his apartment. He doesn’t brag about them, but he’ll say something about his uni days and everyone is just “you went to school????”

It's nice to see an institution celebrate a woman's accomplishments
An avenue on École polytechnique’s campus is now dedicated to Anne Duthilleul-Chopinet, the first female valedictorian to enter École Polytechnique, when the cycle ingénieur polytechnicien entrance examination was opened to women. The inauguration of this avenue, in her presence, was an opportunity to recall the contribution of women to major scientific advances and École polytechnique’s commitment to their promotion.

The inauguration of the avenue Anne Duthilleul-Chopinet on École polytechnique’s campus, in her presence, was an opportunity to highlight the contribution of women to major scientific advances and École polytechnique's commitment to promote them.
Anne Duthilleul-Chopinet was first woman valedictorian at École Polytechnique’s cycle ingénieur polytechnicien program entrance exam in 1972, the first year in which women were admitted to the cycle ingénieur polytechnicien program.
“Bordered by avenues Bequerel and Coriolis, avenue Chopinet will benefit from a solid scientific neighborhood, but it will also resonate with the names of the women scientists, engineers and visionaries who have marked the history of our School,” said Laura Chaubard, President of École Polytechnique, citing the names of Sophie Germain, the first woman to attend the École by disguising her identity, Rose Dieng, the brilliant computer scientist, Caroline Aigle, the first female fighter pilot, and Claudine Hermann, a physicist of formidable talent and the first woman to be appointed professor at X in 1980.
“Many are those who continued to blaze the trail for women engineers after their studies at École Polytechnique. I would like to mention Caroline Laurent, who is here today, who, along with Monique Legrand Laroche, were the first women to be appointed four-star generals, and also Valérie André, a military doctor and the first woman general, who died a few days ago at the age of 102,” added Laura Chaubard.
The President of École Polytechnique also associated with the inauguration the names of the five other female pioneers - Nicole Gontier, Ta Thu Thuy, Françoise Combelles, Anne Ferry, Elisabeth Dupont-Kerlan and Dominique Senequier - who also joined the ranks of l'X in 1972.
Strongly committed to giving women a greater place and visibility in scientific careers, École Polytechnique will be highlighting, as it did in 2024, its femaleacademicss, students, alumni and entrepreneurs between February 11 (International Day of Women and Girls in Science) and March 8 (International Women's Rights Day).
Today, avenue Chopinet is a central axis of the campus, which over the years has welcomed buildings emblematic of the School's development and ambitions. These include the installation of ENSTA Paris, a founding member with X of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, the construction of the Bachelor, built as part of the expansion of École Polytechnique's training offer from 2015 onwards, with the launch of the Bachelor and MSc&T programs, and the new Pôle mécanique, inaugurated on October 3, 2024, which brings together research laboratories in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics and life mechanics from École polytechnique and ENSTA Paris.
In her speech preceding the unveiling of the avenue's plaque on February 3, 2025, Laura Chaubard also spoke of Anne Duthilleul-Chopinet's exemplary career in public service and the general interest, from the French présidency to the CNES (French Centre for Space Studies), and recalled that she continues this mission today as head of Maison Bakhita for migrants and refugees, and as vice-president of Secours Catholique.

If the Transformers characters belonged to a series about school, what kind of students or teachers would they be?
i'm actually working on a tfp college au right now, so i'll share some of my ideas here:
optimus - out of town country boy who moved to iacon for his master's degree in engineering and works in the library to help pay his tuition
ratchet - med school student gunning to be a neurosurgeon once he graduates; one of optimus' friends from back home
arcee - bumblebee's best friend and a business major who also kicks ass on the track and field team (she's also in the gaming club but she won't tell anyone that)
cliffjumper - arcee's boyfriend and majoring in history; currently in rotc
bumblebee - sophomore getting his bachelor's in environmental science, sees optimus like a big brother; head of the robotics club
bulkhead - junior in architecture while also a wide receiver on the football team
smokescreen - freshman getting his degree in engineering, also on the basketball team; has tutoring sessions with optimus
wheeljack - bulkhead's long term boyfriend at a different college studying computer programming
megatron - political science major and captain of the debate team; no war in this au so he isn't evil, but his intensity can freak people out
starscream - out of town rich kid majoring in biochemistry with hopes to join the medical field (also has a FAT crush on optimus but that's just me)
soundwave - quiet kid and megatron's close friend majoring in communication; has dirt on literally everyone at that college
shockwave - psychology major and member of the robotics club; tends to scare the shit out of everyone but soundwave
knock out - starscream's insufferable roommate and also on the medicine track; annoys the hell out of ratchet
breakdown - knock out's bf and majoring in english (i always hc that he's not as dumb as he seems); on the football team and has a friendly rivalry with bulkhead
airachnid - majoring in physical therapy and on the track team; chronic mean girl who has a not so friendly rivalry with arcee

if (Crush), return NEO;
college!pre-matrix!Neo x fem!Reader ch. 1 - choking on words inspo: @discoscoob 's College Neo Bot!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1993
It was a cool and breezy fall day at MIT; the sun shone, birds chirped, and students were all around the populated campus, getting to class or just meandering about.
Well... All students except for one: Thomas Anderson. A junior at this prestigious school, working towards his bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences and Engineering with a concentration in C++. He sounds very studious, doesn't he? Yeah, you'd think he would be, but here he is, in his campus apartment, fallen asleep at his computer. The chunky keys of the Macintosh II keyboard were imprinted into his face, and the drool dribbled out of his slightly agape mouth dripped down his cheek and all over the spacebar. It's 11:30 a.m. Thomas has a class in 15 minutes that he absolutely can't miss: Central Functions and Application of C++ with Dr. Brazhnikov. Will he wake up? God only knows... he's snoring like a freight train and is out. for. the. COUNT.
Thomas' dreamland is full of hot chicks, sexy all-black futuristic outfits, and being a total badass. Yeah, like that would ever happen. He is sleeping peacefully and soundly, that is, until one of his roommates, Chris, bursts through his door. "Thomas!!" He said frantically, running over and shaking Thomas awake. "Ugh-- Five more minutes..." Thomas whimpered and whined, not even opening his eyes, the keyboard clicking underneath his face as he moved. "Thomas, we'll be late for Dr. B's class!! Get the hell up!" Chris kept shaking him. It took him a minute, but once those words wafted into his foggy and sleepy brain, Thomas shot up from lying over his computer and quickly went into panic mode. He ran over to the dresser and threw on a plain white tee, a pair of black joggers, and some sneakers before Nerd and Nerdier ran out of the apartment to get to their class on the opposite side of campus.
11:43 a.m. -- Thomas and Chris are doing more physical activity in this moment than they've done in years. Sprinting across the quad, passing student organization tables, groups of friends socializing, and even a couple campus tours. Poor Tommy's heart is beating against his ribcage like a washboard. Sure, he was slim and lean, but he was by no means a runner; but that's not all that has him this way. What's mostly on his mind right now is you. That girl in his class that-- somehow by the grace of God himself-- was assigned by Dr. B to sit next to Neo. She always gave him the jitters, and he never could find the words he wanted to say to her. He wondered if she was in class already, they obviously can't just barge in and make fools of themselves. With a minute to spare, the boys caught their breath outside of the lecture hall and quietly entered to find their respective seats. A frown immediately donned Thomas' face when he realized that his crush... wasn't there today. Although there was a bit of relief that he didn't have to be nervous around her, he was disappointed that he wasn't going to get to look at her beautiful hair, smell her jasmine vanilla perfume, or see her curves in those hot outfits she wears... Anyways, the clock strikes 11:45 and Dr. Brazhnikov goes to close the door. Just as he grabs the knob to shut it, the sound of platformed Dr. Martens boots can be heard thudding against the tiled floor of the corridor. The older man paused upon hearing the sound and looked out the door. "WAIT! Dr. B, please wait!!" You called out desperately. Suddenly, Thomas' ears perked up at the silky sound of your voice, the once-disappointed butterflies now gaining a second wind as he looked attentively at the entrance of the lecture hall. He sat there, his big brown eyes watching as you entered, looking at you like a lost puppy looks at his owner. God, he was so smitten with you. Too bad he's just... kind of a loser. "You're late.." Dr. Brazhnikov said, crossing his arms and looking you up and down. Your only response was to just chuckle and rub the back of your neck as you headed to your seat. "Sorry, Dr. B, it won't happen again..." As you sit down to fling your backpack off your shoulder, your arm grazes Thomas' and he genuinely shivered a bit. His ears turned pink and he quickly looked away, covering the side of his face with his hand. But you paid him no mind; after all, he was just a nerdy guy in a sea of nerdy guys. You were one of maybe five girls in the entirety of the CompSci C++ concentration, and maybe 13 in the whole major, so all the guys just kinda blend into one big amalgam of nerd and geek after a while. Dr. B started class as usual before discussing the midterm project that was due next week: everyone was to turn in a roster of information of their choosing along with a floppy disk drive of a data management system that they were to code on their own using the units they've learned so far. Blah, Blah, Blah... Thomas zoned out as the older Russian man at the front of the class kept droning on and on. That was until he felt paper scrape against his arm.
His big, puppy dog eyes darted down at his arm, a bit startled as he was pulled out of his spacey daze. Shockingly, it wasn't just your notebook scraping up against him. It was a folded-up index card. Thomas looked at you with dazed eyes, but you didn't look back. God, it felt like he was vibrating, his hand trembled as he grabbed the paper. He hesitated to open it, afraid of what you could've written. What if it was something mean?? What if the note wasn't meant for him? The worst-case scenarios were enough to make poor Tommy sick to his stomach. He opened it, and there it was: the most beautiful handwriting he'd ever seen-- definitely prettier than his chicken scratch. Etched on the flash card in green ink:
"Do you have a spare floppy disk I could borrow? I'll wipe it and return it to you once Dr. B grades it."
Oh, you might as well have proposed to him right then and there. You were actually talking to him. Well-- maybe not talking per se... but it is more interaction than he normally gets with the opposite sex, which is little to none. He wasn't sure how to respond on paper, but he was swallowing back acid just at the thought of tapping you and actually speaking. He was such a ball of nerves, stuck at the fork in the road of this (usually mundane) situation. Thomas rifled through his backpack for a disk he knew he'd been carrying around. Hopefully, he didn't take it out... Where is it, where is it??? AH! There it is! Along with the disk, he pulled out a pen from his backpack and wrote in his less-than-legible handwriting:
Yes. Here you go. 💾
Unable to do so much as to touch you, Thomas cleared his throat and passed the disk towards you, leaving the note on top. Upon receiving the note and disc, you turn to this lanky, nerdy guy and flash him the sweetest smile you possibly can. "Thank you so, so, so much!" You whisper to him. "Uhh... N-No." Thomas choked out, his face bright red and his eyes involuntarily locked on yours. What the hell kinda response is that? 'NO??? YOU FUCKING IDIOT?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO???' Thomas thought to himself. "No...?" You can't help but laugh at the guy's response. "I-I mean... N-No, thank you... I-I mean No Problem... Y-Yeah... no problem..." Thomas stammered out and you couldn't help but laugh again. "Ohhh, okay..." You giggle and turn your attention back to the front.
He scratched the back of his neck and turned his attention to the lecture hall floor, the same floor which he had wished more than anything would split open and swallow him whole.
Suddenly, another note is passed to him.
Mind if we chat after class?
oh fuck... He checked his watch, lo and behold, 5 minutes left of class.

death by a thousand cuts
satoru gojo x f!reader
**part of my satoru as taylor swift songs series
an: a wild taylor as gojo has appeared. enjoy. satoru as taylor swift anon who is always in the asks, this is for you. i see you and i hear you.
--
“holy shit. there’s no way you’re on his fucking linked in during class?” megumi whispers.
you feel your eyes widen as you look to your left to find a very, deeply distraught megumi staring at you. and it’s almost like clockwork, the way he abandons his accounting spreadsheet – and quickly slides into the messages app on his laptop.
the three consecutive buzzes of your phone thrum under your thigh come before you see nobara and yuuji turn their heads back, two rows ahead of you in the lecture hall, and looking awfully more distraught than megumi.
“you’re kidding.” nobara mouths.
“freak!” yuuji whispers, earning you a set of weird glances from the group at your right.
you glare at the two of them, before turning to megumi and bringing your foot down on top of his. megumi winces, giving you a very characteristic and unbothered eye roll, before he returns to finishing up his spreadsheet.
you pull your hood up over your ears, cheeks warm and pink from embarrassment, before you focus back on the screen.
you know that he’s right. that there is really no point at looking at his account – not when you have all of the details memorized.
Satoru Gojo  Senior Data Science Student @ Tokyo Technical Institute
three work experiences. data analytics intern for the justice project. hackathon project lead. meadow investments development engineer.
two degrees under his education. because he’s dual enrolled and set to get a bachelor’s in computer science and a masters in engineering by the end of his term next year.
and one organization. alpha kappa psi, the business fraternity.
the only reason you were at the scene of the crime.
it was all miwa’s fault. and partially yours, for being so willing to come to her aid – at all times. when she asked you to accompany her to the bid party – just because she wanted to support mechamaru fresh in their new relationship and didn’t do too well in social situations – you had all but obliged. at the most, you would get a cheap shot and brownie points to get miwa to run the errands for the entire month.
except when it came to it, miwa wasn’t nervous at all, only because mechamaru had spent the past few weeks hyping her up to his pledge class. which left you alone, stuck to roam around until she was ready to leave at the end of the night.
the floor was sticky with beer, there was an almost rancid, putrid smell lingering in the air that you couldn’t pinpoint, and you were stuck with sixty of your peers – shitfaced to a point you didn’t even know was humanly possible.
and with miwa long gone, doing god knows what with mechamaru and you were stuck leaning against the fridge, bored out of your mind. that’s when he found you – pawing your way through the food.
his smell was the first thing that caught your attention, second to the fact that he was hovering over your shoulder, cheeks brushing against each other. it was almost minty and stark – almost eradicating the lingering smell of weed that was burning your nose.
the skin on his cheek was soft, featherlike when it brushed against yours.
“whatcha doing, dollface?”
you immediately curl your nose, turned off by the unnecessary sweetness. you had your fill of dirty frat boys during orientation week, three years ago, and knew damn well that you had to steer clear of whatever was happening here.
“playing where’s waldo, genius. i’m obviously looking for food.” you state.
you reach for the closest box, a perfectly cut slice of cake, encased in a wrap. the plastic is covered in messy scribbles on the top – spelling out satoru in loopy letters.
“you’re just going to eat someone else’s cake?” he asks.
“how do you know it’s not mine?”
“intuition.”
it’s only then that you stop yourself to look up at this stranger whispering in your ear, only to find glimmering blue eyes, peering over the top of a set of sunglasses. the sunglasses are god awful – even worse with the combination of the tanktop and the snapback he’s wearing backwards.
you swear there’s a faded, glittery pink lipstick mark indented at the top of his cheek.
“you-you’d be shocked.” you stutter, as you pull the box out of the fridge and place it on the counter.
he momentarily walks away – which is when you take the second to ogle him in full. a toned back, a tattoo on the top of his shoulder that you can’t entirely make out. white hair, veiny arms, and a silver necklace hanging against his collarbone.
he returns back, two forks in hand, before making a dramatic display of handing you one.
“for you, my sweet lady.”
“i’m not sure why you brought two forks. who said i was going to share with you?”
he grins, leaning his head back to laugh like a little kid, before he scoots closer to you – the sweet scent coming back.
“c’mon.”
he reaches for your hand, before lifting it to place it against his chest. you can feel his heart beating under the feeling of your fingertips, his eyes wide and expectant as he waits for and answer.
“do me a favor, yeah? let me share my cake with a pretty girl at a party. there’s only a limited amount of joys in this life.”
you scoff, before pulling your hand back.
“you’re corny.”
he shrugs.
“you’ll get used to it.”
you groan, as you slam your computer shut – the image of his shiny headshot staring back at you getting burned into your eyes.
stupid. stupid, stupid, stupid.
one stupid joke, a slice of cake, and somehow you woke up in his bed the next day being spooned by him. and one thing led to the next because he was somehow taking you to brunch, then settling his head in between your legs before dinner, and then back at your house the next day.
it was an arrangement at that point. the dinners, what happened in between, and the morning after.
you’re not sure what the terms and conditions are in a predicament like yours – with a guy like satoru. you know for a fact that he still flirts with other girls, because you’d see him walking with a different one every time you stopped at the coffee shop. but then he’d invite you to dinner, honey sweet words falling from his lips before he tucked you in for bed each night.
friends with benefits. but he buys you gifts and takes you to dinner. and calls you beautiful. comes to your house after frat parties, with the faintest scent of a flowery perfume on his neck that you swear you’re imagining.
letting him walk out of your apartment was your own personal tourture, of death by a thousand cuts, because every step farther away from you was closer to someone else.
and that sinking, deep rooted dread, only got worse as time went on.
you feel a hard smack against your head.
“do your fucking homework.”
--
satoru gojo has distinct features that you always find yourself staring at. a mole on his shoulder, a scar on his pointer finger, and the rings he wore. sometimes, you find yourself asking them about him.
you reach forward, locking your fingers in on the chain around his neck, and using it to pull him closer. it's of a little postage stamp, though the silver looks rusted – like he’s worn it to death. he’s quick to oblige, a warm kiss on your cheek, before you yank again.
“what, baby?” he whines.
“where’d you get your necklace?”
he leans back, looking down at the chain, before his eyes meet yours again. there’s a dim fluorescent glow coming in from the blinds of the window, sun far gone in the horizon, and it’s the only thing that makes this bearable.
that his piercing blue eyes somewhat subdued from the lack of light.
“you want it, princess?”
“what? no. i just like it. i wasn’t –”
it’s a boyish giggle that comes out of satoru’s mouth as he quickly unfastens the clasp from his neck before tangling it in his fist.
you’re not an idiot – because it’s his freezing cold fingers pulling your shirt over your head – before he pulls you into his lap.
this was one of satoru’s favorite things to do. pull you close, till you’re straddling him in his lap, and you can feel his breath tickling against his collarbone as he whispers sweet nothings to you.
you wonder if he can see your blush in the dim light. if that’s part of why he likes it – seeing the effect he has on you.
he reaches forward, pulling your hair to the side and pressing a kiss to your collarbone, before he fastens his silver necklace around your neck.
“you know. when i said i liked your necklace, i said i liked it on you. i wasn’t asking for it.”
“but i like seeing you wear it more.”
satoru’s eyes are focused as he fixes the tangles in the chain, letting the little charm hang right in the little divot where your collarbone ends. and then he brings his hands in around your face, nearly squishing the softness of your cheeks together, before he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“will you wear my hoodie?” he jokes.
you scoff.
“are we in sixth grade? also, it quite literally says ‘yuuta’s big’ on the sleeve. that’s not obvious at all.”
satoru rolls his eyes.
“you would love yuuta, though. he’s your pseudo little brother, because you’re with me, you know?”
you shake your head, as you crawl out of his lap, and reach for the water bottle on the side table. you try to ground yourself, head spinning as you try to decipher what that means – and tap your feet on the floor.
you can feel him at your side, his observant blue eyes burning holes into your skin, as you note the steady, almost cautious tone in his voice.
“you okay? something i said?”
you shake him off.
“yeah, yeah. sorry. got out of the mood there for a second, just have a lot to do this week.”
satoru hums, before bringing his hands around your torso, leaning his entire weight against you as he settles his chin into the crook of your neck.
“you ever think you work too hard, pretty girl?”
“working hard or hardly working?” you joke. even his corny jokes were rubbing off on you.
you hear satoru scoff, before he starts rubbing circles into the bare skin of your stomach, as the goosebumps start to trickle over your skin.
“oh, don’t be like that. you’re the smartest person i know.”
“is this a clever way to get into my pants?”
“no. it’s me telling you that i think you’re very intelligent, you’re very driven, and you don’t have to worry about if you’re working hard enough. i know the only breaks you take are to go to that dumb movie theater downtown with your grumpy friend or when you scream my name every –”
“satoru.” you whine.
“don’t say my name like that. it turns me on.”
you grin.
“satoru.” you hum, teasing him.
“fuck off.”
he pauses, before pressing a lingering kiss to the side of your neck.
“but really. you’re a clever, you’re pretty, and irritatingly very accomplished. slow down so i can catch up, okay?”
“that’s rich coming from you. mister three internships, two degrees in four years.”
it’s quiet.
“how’d you know that?” satoru asks.
you can hear the smile in his voice. and the dread pooling in your stomach.
“what?”
“how’d you know it was two degrees?”
“you-you told me.”
“no, i didn’t. i just got accepted a few weeks ago, i haven’t even told some of my friends yet.”
you groan, before bringing your hands up to your face. you bury your eyes into the sockets of your eyes, getting caught embarrassedly red handed.
“where?”
you sigh.
“i stalked you on linked in.”
satoru grins wide, before pulling you back onto the bed and into his embrace. you can hear his giggling in your ear as you try to pull away.
“oh, baby you didn’t.”
“i had to make sure i didn’t apply where you worked!”
“no, you didn’t. we don’t even work in the same field.”
“you don’t know! i could change my mind!”
satoru laughs, before leaning forward to press a quick kiss to your lips.
“you have a crush on me! angel, you should have just said so!”
you give him a hard push, before crossing your arms over your chest.
“quit teasing. so i’m a stalker! so what? i just want to make sure i’m not putting out for a loser. you could be coding some AI for the government for all i know and i don’t want to be –”
“okay, okay. relax. i’m just teasing, i just think it’s cute you keep tabs on me.”
you glare.
“i don’t like you.” you state.
he rolls his eyes, before flopping his head down on your pillow and tapping the space next to him. you crawl into the space, before nestling yourself into his arms. you can feel your brain spiraling – instant regret for saying too much, being too weird, too harsh, and not saying what you felt – as you focus on the feeling of his hands running through your hair.
“i can tell that the hamster in your brain is working overtime. just go to bed, okay?”
“okay, lock the door when you leave?”
“i don’t have plans tomorrow morning. if you could humble yourself to eat breakfast with me, i’d actually like that.”
you frown, stomach jolting in your guts.
he had never stayed for an arbitrary reason – like spending the night just to sleep next to you. you shut your eyes, burying your face deeper into the sweet smell of his skin, and throw the thought away.
“mimosas?”
“you want to drink that early in the morning?”
“it’s saturday. gives me a good kick to start my day.”
“aren’t mimosas made with champagne? i hate champagne. and it makes you really handsy.”
you smile.
“you like when i’m handsy.”
“i mean, yes. but we can just do pancakes and go to the library together so we can do work. i’ll keep you accountable and find you snacks when you get inevitably cranky. then when you come home all tired, we can be as handsy as we want. it’s more satisfying when you have to work for it.”
you groan, burying the complications of spending yet another day with him in the back of your head as you try to flutter your eyes shut – in futile attempts to quiet the thoughts racketing around in your mind.
“okay, okay whatever. we’ll see tomorrow, i just – i’m really tired right now and –”
“shut up, dollface. just sleep.”
--
you get invited to the alpha kappa psi formal. miwa – who found out from mechamaru, whose pledge class brother is very close with satoru’s little yuuta – said that satoru wanted you there.
then why didn’t he ask you?
you bite the bullet anyways, borrowing one of kugisaki’s pale blue slip dresses – and attend as mechamaru’s pledge brother – todo’s date – to get in.
he’s a strange guy, who doesn’t pay you too much attention. it’s one polite wave and a cardstock ticket he hands you before you don’t see him again for the rest of the night. and you’re stuck with miwa and mechamaru, who are bigger fans of pda than you are.
“how’s satoru, y/n?” mechamaru asks.
“ah. he’s good. you know as much as i do, right?”
you can feel yourself sweating.
would satoru leave if you said too much? if you embarrassed him in front of one of his brothers? did they know you guys had an…arrangement? was it an arrangement? were you seeing each other? why did they think he invited you?
“dunno. aren’t you guys really good friends?” mechamaru asks.
“um, yeah.”
“yeah, he was telling us you studied together at the library the other day. figured he’d want you to meet suguru and ieiri.”
suguru and ieiri.
“yeah. i’m gonna go get a drink. do you guys want anything?”
“i’m good, love. we’ll be here.” miwa states, giving a reassuring squeeze to your bicep before you drag your heels to the makeshift bar.
you walk over to the bar, straight to the open bottle of rosé that has your name on it, as you lean against the wall. you pour way too much into your flute, nearly spilling it over the back of your hand, as you curse.
“do you want help?”
you look up to find a boy looking at you, wide eyes, with his bangs sweeping down the side of his face. he has tired eyes, but it’s a seemingly bright smile he offers you.
“sorry, yeah. i’ll clean it up, i swear.”
“no, no. no problem.”
he hands you a handkerchief from his pocket, before he pulls your hand in his and wipes the excess pink stain on it. you cringe at the stain on the cloth before he tucks it back into his pocket.
“i’m sorry about that. that’s really kind of you, i just –”
“no problem! you seemed…kind of frustrated there. happy to help.”
you shoot him a polite smile, before nervously sipping – maybe a little too fast for comfort. but the warm feeling is enough to temporarily curb the nerves, which is perfect for your sake.
“are you a brother?” you ask.
“yeah! is this your first formal?”
“yeah. i’m seeing someone in your frat and he asked me to come. well, he didn’t ask me to come, he told someone else he wanted me to come so i came as one of the other brother’s date. but not really his date, because i haven't seen him since then. or the guy i’m talking to.”
he leans back, eyes wide.
“right. do you like him? if…if you mind me asking.”
“my date? i can’t even remember his name. he’s like a tall, muscular guy. man bun?”
“no, yeah. his name is todo, i figured that’s who you were talking about. i mean the other guy.”
“oh. well, yeah. but he’s so…i don’t know. he’s a frat guy. and a chronic flirt. the first time i met him he had a lipstick stain on his cheek. and he smells like girly perfume every time he comes to see me, so –”
he sucks his teeth in.
“idiot.” he murmurs.
“what?”
“no! oh my god, not you! i meant…me! just thought of something. gotta run for a second, i’ll be back.”
“wait, you didn’t even tell me your –”
you watch as he rushes off, in a speed walking fervor, as mechamaru and miwa join you at your side. they give you a polite smile, which you return, as you swirl the glass in your hand.
“mechamaru. do you know that guy who just walked away? tired looking, the long hair?”
“oh, yuuta. yeah, what about him?”
“yuuta?”
“yeah, you’ve never met him? he’s like gojo’s pride and joy.”
you sink against the wall, embarrassment coursing through you, as you down the rest of your glass. and then three more, which is accompanied by weary looks from miwa. and after finishing off the entire bottle – an hour and a half into the party without seeing satoru – you’re set on leaving.
and it’s only on your rageful stomp out the door, well past tipsy, that you find the godawful man of the hour, leaning against the wall.
it’s enough to fill you with a rage. because he’s leaning against the wall, shirt slightly unbuttoned, and smiling brightly at whichever girl he’s talking to. you’re almost positive that it’s probably her flowery perfume that you’re smelling on his neck at the time, that she’s who he sees when he’s not with you, and it’s like pins and needles in your stomach.
and you almost make your escape, before he catches you on your way out.
“y/n? wait, y/n!”
you’re one step out the door, before he grabs your bicep, and pulls back, giving you a bright grin.
“i didn’t know you were here yet. i’ve been waiting, come here, c’mhere.” satoru mumbles, quickly rushing you over to the group of three people standing by the door, who all turn their heads for you.
you groan as you turn to the group of them. it’s the same tired eyes as before – that you now know belong to yuuta – and two strangers you’ve never seen before. a guy almost as tall as satoru, with swooping bangs and a manbun, and the girl – who you can’t stand to look at, with perfect beach waves swooping past her shoulders.
and what you can’t help but notice is a sparkling, silver postage stamp necklace around her neck. the same one around yours, that you had been fidgeting with since satoru gave it to you weeks ago.
“here’s your drink, satoru.” the girl states, handing him a glass of white wine that he takes.
it’s enough to make your rage bubble to the surface.
“the lady of the hour, guys! this is y/n, she’s my –”
you scoff.
“are you kidding?”
“hm?”
“lady of the hour? for what, your jokes?”
you watch as satoru’s face drops, before he sets the glass of wine down on the closest table.
“huh? what do you mean? i wanted to introduce you to ieiri, i know you’re going to love her.”
you can feel the tears accumulating in your eyes, that you’re almost positive that satoru notices, because his face visibly droops even more, this time replaced with genuine concern that sends a pang in your chest that has you wrestling your wrist out of his hold.
“you…you’re so mean, satoru.”
“baby, what?”
“don’t…why are you calling me that? every morning you wake up next to me and you’re still not my baby. that’s not exactly fair. you smell like a different girl and you still…you still flirt with other people.” you whisper.
his eyes go wide.
“no, i –”
“every time you walk away i’m half convinced you’re just going to someone else you’re stringing along like me. i’m sitting there thinking about how you’ve walked hundreds of steps away from me hundreds of times and it feels like a thousand little cuts every time you do and it kills me that you don’t even care.”
you can feel that whatever is coming out is word vomit, like it’s started and now it won’t ever stop.
“i see you everywhere, because you literally come everywhere with me just to leave. any song you’ve sang is now our song, any movie, literally anything you’ve even touched. i can’t even wear certain clothes without thinking about how you complimented me in them and i’m stuck thinking about how you probably say that to everyone. you don’t even drink wine and you’re over here drinking some with this random girl at this party, when that’s my thing that we drink wine together. you gave her the same necklace as me, and you apparently asked me to come to but didn’t even tell me about to my face? then you sick your little frat brother to ask me if i like you just so you can….i don’t know, i don’t know what you’d do with that information!”
you watch as satoru pinches the bridge of his nose, only to turn to the three of them at his side, who are all shaking their heads dismissively.
“suguru. i fucking told you he had to be leaving something out.”
“well, i didn’t realize it was going to be like this, shoko. no wonder she won’t date him.”
you swallow hard, as you seem to sink deeper in the pits of your own embarrassment, which seems to be a record low.
“fuck. you…you said her name is shoko?”
geto offers you a smile.
“that’s right.”
“like satoru’s hometown friend? the…the lesbian?”
“that would be me.” she confirms.
you cringe.
“oh my god. i’m really sorry, i’m really drunk. i drank an entire bottle of wine after i accidentally talked to yuuta and i just –”
“well, i’d get drunk if i were you too. he smells like other girls? and flirts with them?” shoko asks.
“i do not! i don’t even know what you’re talking about. i didn’t even know she even liked me back till twenty minutes ago.”
“the necklace is a nice gesture. satoru, geto, and i all have these matching postage stamp necklaces from this shitty place in our hometown. we got them together when we graduated so we wouldn’t forget about what was important when we all go to college.”
you turn to satoru.
“and you just gave that to me?”
“well, i knew you’d take care of it.”
“that’s like…that’s like sentimental, satoru. you literally gave me your childhood best friends memento and that’s so-”
“well, obviously that seems like a little much if you think we’re just friends with benefits!”
you scoff.
“you’re the one who wanted to be friends with benefits.” you clarify.
“what are you talking about? you literally cringe away from any affection i give you!” satoru retorts.
“because you flirt with other girls!”
“not since you! why would i flirt with other people?”
“you tell me. i smell the perfume.”
satoru groans.
“that’s your perfume, dipshit. you left your hoodie at my house and it smells like you so sometimes i sleep next to it and then i smell like it. how do you not recognize your own smell?”
you pause.
“you do what?”
“not in a fucking weird way. i just miss you when you’re busy. you smell nice, it’s –”
“hopeless.” yuuta states, earning him a nod from suguru.
“you didn’t even ask me to come here with you.” you state.
“shoko had to be my date so she could come. i had to make yuuta drag maki in through a window because geto was his plus one. i just wanted you here so you could meet my childhood friends, who i care about. they’ve heard about you for so long that i just thought –”
“you talk to your friends about me?”
“an insufferable amount. though most of his agony seems self inflicted now, because he’s a fucking idiot.” shoko confirms.
“okay, let’s get y/n some water, yeah?” yuuta suggests, before shuffling the two of them off, to which satoru sends a grateful smile before turning back to you.
he crouches down a little, just so your eyes are level, as you frown at him.
“is this what that hamster in your brain is doing up there? overthinking literally everything?”
“you –”
“if you asked, i would have clarified for you. we’ve always been exclusive and if you talked to someone else while we were talking, i’m going to have to kill him.”
“don’t be stupid.”
“i’ll just send a threat! sign his emails up for scientology. he was talking to my girl!”
you glare at him.
“you…you’re so stupid, satoru. you confuse me so much and i just…you take up too much space. you’re everywhere – literally no part of me that you haven’t taken up and i just…”
satoru frowns, before pulling his hands around your face, and angling up by your chin to look at him.
“don’t give up now. it just got good.” he whispers.
“satoru.”
“cmon. let me lick all thousand of your cuts clean.”
“ew. you’re…you’re so gross, satoru.”
“okay, that was just a dirty joke. but let me make it up to you, really. i didn’t realize you…you were thinking all that. i thought you just liked me because i was sexy and because i eat your –”
“satoru!”
“please. let me into that hamster ball in your brain. i deserve some space.”
“it’s all boarded up. the hamster ball house burned down.” you groan.
he leans back, like he’s inspecting your face, before he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“dunno. i’m seeing some flickering lights in there. i can tell your hamster in there really wants me.”
“quit….quit calling me a hamster! you’re so…ugh. i have a headache and i’m drunk and i’m really confused and i just –”
satoru mimics a little salute, before he loops his hand around your waist and walks you towards the little bar.
“okay, test run. i’m on boyfriend duty. if this goes well enough, you give me a chance tomorrow.”
you squint your eyes at him.
“okay, water first. then i have two baby aspirin for you in my pocket. three kisses on the cheek if you won’t insult me after and a compliment if you won’t kill me.”
“really?”
“yuuta told me you downed a whole bottle. since you’re too mad to be handsy, you have a headache. but don’t worry, i came prepared. meaning i forced yuuta to find some baby aspirin or else. and also, kisses because you smell good and you’re wearing this pretty blue dress that’s the same color as my eyes and you’re about to meet my favorite people ever and you’re my favorite person ever, so this is a big deal.” satoru responds.
he’s rambling so hard that you feel like you can see the hamster in his mind working overtime.
--
“what’s the verdict?”
satoru’s voice is like a thousand bullets in your head as you smack him in the face, trying to silence the chattering coming out of his mouth.
“satoru. what…what time is it?”
“six in the morning. but it’s the next day and i need to know how my test run went.”
“your….what?”
satoru whines.
“no, no don’t tell me you’re too drunk to remember? my test run! to be your boyfriend?”
you groan, flickering your eyes open to the alarm clock on your bed, spelling out the time. 6:07 am.
“no, i remember. you need the answer at six in the morning when i’m hungover?”
“this is agony! i really get this whole thousand cuts thing now, this hurts. tell me.”
you push his face into the pillow, before mumbling it as quietly as you can.
“you pass.”
“huh?”
“you heard me. you passed. just…shut up, please.”
it’s his giggles you hear before sleeping and a warm kiss on your forehead, before you pass out again.
