You’ll make connections everywhere you land if that is what you want. You’ll also find that there are thousands of other solo travelers just like you.

You’ll realize, though you may feel lonely, you’re not alone. 🌴☀️

Lago Titicaca-Sea of  the Andes 

This destination is meant for those that are looking to be immersed in Peruvian culture. This lake is a national treasure, it is local legend that the world was created from the lake by the Incan god Viracocha. Its habitants continue to practice traditional customs, they wear typical colorful garments, and they are farmers and fishermen. Their way of life has been preserved through centuries, they still speak quechua and host festivals with traditional music and dances. One of them is the party of the Virgen de la Candelaria, where dancers bring offerings to Mother Earth while wearing demonic masks. 

A unique characteristic of the lake its the floating islands that were built by the Uros. These man made islands allowed them to stay isolated from enemies, there are 40 of them. They sit on top of the lake's 3800 meters of altitude , which makes it the tallest lake in the world. While on the islands the locals show how they use the totora, a aquatic plant, to built their houses and boats. As well they share their day to day routines and history.

Creo que en la experiencia de irte de tu país para recorrer el mundo, las personas suelen hablar de todas las cosas increíbles que vas a vivir, de las personas que conoces, de los lugares que visitas, de cómo creces. Suelen hablar de todo lo hermoso de viajar, no como turista, sino cómo un verdadero viajero y de todas las cosas positivas que te trae. Y si, es la mejor experiencia que jamás había experimentado.

Sin embargo a veces nos olvidamos de hablar de la otra cara, que también es parte. No hablamos de la desolación que a veces sentimos por la partida de una persona que apenas conocimos y que luego tiene que irse. Esa sensación de haber conectado tan fuerte con alguien y querer pasar mucho más tiempo juntos, pero tener que separarse porque esa es parte de la experiencia del viaje. No hablamos de la fuerza que conlleva en uno tener que adaptarse una y otra vez a nuevos ambientes, a nuevas personas, a nuevas culturas y de lo cansador que puede ser a veces para el alma esa constante inconsistencia. No hablamos de la falta de afecto físico que sentimos, de a veces querer un abrazo o un beso pero no tener a nadie para que nos de eso mas que a nosotros mismos.

También es parte del viaje hacia uno mismo el tener que salir de tu zona de comfort TODO el tiempo, pero tratando de encontrar la diversión en el miedo a hacerlo, porque es inevitable para evolucionar. Sentirnos cómodos con la incomodidad.

El viaje es una experiencia de expansión que no se puede explicar con palabras. Sin embargo, saber que estar mal también es parte del proceso es imprescindible para hacer de la experiencia lo más honesta y real que podamos.
