Quick sketch of Ketheric for the durge metal band au. He’s an old school rocker from the band Moon Maiden before he parted ways with them. He’d been in a few other bands like The Gauntlet of Shar but now he’s the drummer for The Dead 3.

Gotta say nothing shows the level of americanisation of media/internet than with this eclipse. Last year state in Australia (Western Australia) had complete totality of an eclipse in a dinky little town up north. It was inundated with tourists from around Australia and the world - we even had NASA scientists fly in for study.

I'm based in the only city of our hugeass state (Perth) and while we didn't get totality it was probably the most significant eclipse I've seen in recent memory. It was present in shadows, and there was a significant temperature drop during the experience.

Internationally? News probably didn't make a blip.

Meanwhile I'm sitting in my office overhearing the BBC on the tv (so british news) talking about an American solar eclipse like it's more significant? 🤷‍♀️

Anyway here's some of my pics of our eclipse last year: we had 72% coverage where I was, managed to catch some of the crescent shadows beneath our paperbark tree (I thank tumblr for bestowing this knowledge years ago).

we have joked about MCR keith. we have cried about mitski keith. but i firmly believe the True Keith Music Characterization(TM) is that keith actually has no discernable music identity at all. keith lists his top 5 favorite artists and they're all so completely different in genre and vibe and decade and sometimes even language that you're just like ???????? was this kid synthesized in a swedish lab or something

in my HEART i know that keith has the most eclectic taste in music known to mankind. i think keith grew up in the middle of bumfuck nowhere where his only sources of music were 1) his dad's extensive collection of cassette tapes from the 1970s and 80s (note: keith's dad did NOT carefully curate his collection of cassette tapes, he actually just bought a random box of tapes at a yard sale and then tailored his personality around them accordingly) and 2) their ancient clunky boombox that permanently resided on the wobbly picnic bench behind their house. said boombox specifically picked up only 11 radio stations: 5 different Christian radio stations, 3 stations devoted entirely to Christian country music, 2 stations that played nothing but static, and occasionally, when the stars aligned, whatever music the radio station at the local community college three counties away would play.

Taking a moment to be smug because I’m famously weather paranoid. Enough that it exasperates my brother at times. We were supposed to drive to Houston today, but when I woke up and saw that it was a) dark and humid outside and b) there was a cold front sweeping through and c) the Houston forecast showed severe thunderstorms in the afternoon with a possibility of hail and damaging winds, I called my brother and said “Let’s do this tomorrow.”

I could tell by his voice he was kind of annoyed and probably thinking, there she goes being crazy again. We had a nice downpour here and then the sun came out. My husband commented on how beautiful it looked outside. “Uh-huh,” I said as I watched the towering thunderstorms passing to the north.

Dad showed me the radar. “It looks clear! Look, the storm is moving north.”

“No, the storm is moving east. That radar motion means there’s a higher chance of tornadoes thanks to wind shear,” I said. “We’ll go tomorrow.”

A while later, my friend in Houston sent me a picture of a funnel cloud. The radar shows a line of damaging storms moving through the metro area with another behind it that we would have driven straight into had we gone.

So yeah, I’m feeling pretty good about my choices today.

She saw not a monster, but a very lonely soul, in need of love.

"Well, uh," Wilhelm commented, similarly eating little (despite his usually strong appetite, it was, like his wife's, waning this evening) as he took a stab at humor, joking lightly, "You look pretty good for a centenarian, lass!"

This docu-series looks at the past, present and future of Texas from a lot of different perspectives, but Linklater’s episode about the prison industrial system is riveting.

2. Beatles ‘64  David Tedeschi

60 years later, looking back at the year that The Beatles took the world by storm, there’s still some rare unseen footage that is captivating to see!

1. Flipside  Chris Wilcha

Director Wilcha turns the camera on himself as he returns to the NJ record store he used to work at and tries to help revive and look back at his own abandoned film projects. But it’s really symbolic of aging Gen Xers trying to get back to their creative rebellious nature they once had as they get older and deal with the real world. Of all the docs I saw in 2024, this one truly spoke to me and had something to say about finishing what you start and what it means to hang onto (and let go of) physical media!
