Another fun antisemitic conspiracy theory most people don’t understand as an antisemitic conspiracy theory is the irrational fear of bar codes!
Barcodes were widely adopted as industry standard by a Jewish guy named Alen Haberman in 1974. (To speed up groceries scanning)
By the 80s fundamentalist Christians began to believe they were a way to track citizens and were being used by the government for mind control. Sound familiar? There were similar scares about credit cards but they were never as hated or part of conspiracy thinking as the ‘Jewish coded’ bar codes.
If you were wondering why trump went on a random tangent hating on bar codes.

Scan This
Fifty years. That’s a long time. “Sundown” by Gordon Lightfoot was the Number #1 song on the 26th of June that year. A gallon of gas cost $0.53. Richard Nixon was still President for another six weeks. The Brady Bunch TV series had just ended. I had just finished my freshman year of high school.
And in tiny Troy Ohio, retail history was made when the first bar code was scanned at a supermarket. Happy National Bar Code Day, y’all!
To be fair, bar codes had been in use before, but not at the consumer level. A 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Gum had the distinction of ushering in a new era of inventory tracking and ringing up sales. Bar codes—known formally as Uniform Product Codes—became the new normal.
Tumblr media
It’s not like everything simply fell into place in the days, even years, following that momentous date. It took a while for manufacturers to adopt what would become the new standard, as well as supermarkets to replace standard keypunch cash registers with electronic scanners. It would be a decade before all of this was commonplace.
Shoppers were not always convinced of the safety of them, and sometimes had conflicted feelings between them and their religious beliefs. My younger brother was a bagger at a suburban Chicago grocery in the early-80s, and he was always full of stories. They ranged from older shoppers who feared their foods would become irradiated and thus dangerous to consume, while others of a conservative religious bent feared this was the coming of antichrist, and that in no time we would all have bar codes tattooed on our wrist or forehead if he wanted to be able to buy anything.
Once again, Change was a tempest in a teapot, much ado about nothing, at least as far as their fears were concerned. Today, those fears are laughable, replaced by other irrational fears that we will chuckle about down the road.
We are accustomed to using bar codes in common scenarios, ranging from using our phones to scan items so that we can get prices or product information, or at the self-check stands in many stores. Through the last 50 years, bar codes have become ubiquitous, with food being just the first consumer product to bear them.
But I have to wonder if this will last as the standard, because since COVID, we have come to embrace the QR code. So much more information can be packed into those little black and white squares, or whatever shapes they happen to be using. They are also linked to web content, something the UPC is not.
Already the QR is becoming as common as the UPC. How many of you have paid your restaurant bill via a QR code on your receipt? Have you noticed the concert and sporting event tickets you bought online, and downloaded to your phone, use a version of QR? We are only beginning to discover all of the possible applications.
We should all spend some time today pondering the significance of how, 50 years ago today, we as a society started down a new path. There will always be a resistance to any newfangled technology that comes along, but in the end, technology will win the battle, and we will all be better off for it. Essentially, bar codes heralded another aspect of the Information Age.
Along the way, we changed for the better. Aside from the obvious conveniences bar codes as well as QR codes have brought, we eventually embraced a digital lifestyle, slowly shedding the dorsal fin of the analog era.
It makes you wonder what will be the next fin we shed. I’m up for it.

Scanning the 50th Anniversary of the Bar Code
Steve chats with Paul McEnroe, the leader of the IBM team that invented the bar code, and the author of the new memoir, "The Barcode: How a Team Created One of the World's Most Ubiquitous Technologies"
It may be hard to believe but this year marks the golden anniversary of a ubiquitous piece of technology that doesn’t have to boot up, doesn’t need a battery recharge, never needs a new style of USB cable, and has baffled an American president. It’s the bar code, those vertical lines of varying thicknesses that you see with a bunch of numbers on just about every package of goods you buy in a…

im so in love with 'in repetition and change'. genuinely such an interesting concept with INCREDIBLE art to boot !!!!!! so i just. have to say how much i adore it
but! i was going through the irac tag and noticed that. isa's wish isnt stated anywhere! you mentioned that you know his wish, but !!! i am going crazy thinking about what he couldve wished for !!!!!
so i must ask. what did he wish for, and what was his equivalent of the act 5 finale fight? how did he learn to let go of his wish ??? im losing it
thats all, thank you for making this stellar au :))
Yeah no I also wonder what got him eternally stuck [MASTERPOST]
Also some more stuff, cause I made quite a lot for this-
Tumblr media
Death Loop gif, for fun. I initially did the audio for this but I leave you with this.

Sif eating with em big cheeks like they were meant to
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, the drawings.
I also didn't get to answer one of the questions- I am not fully sure if Isa told everyone about the timeloops. Tho the way I imagine it is that he told them the entirety of Act 2, and after reaching the end he stopped, but I'm just not sure how that would work with the timeloop mechanically.
Maybe in order to do the friend quests he has to pretend he doesn't know everything that's gonna happen, and during that loop the game asks you to go through without skipping- After that he probably just stopped telling them and just pretended everything was fine.

Modern au idea
Geralt's a bartender with a teeny tiny massive crush on the local musician Jaskier who plays at his bar every week. His favorite part of the night is when Jaskier comes up to the bar after his set and chats away to him, high off the adrenalin of performing. That is until one night when instead of his usually bubbly voice calling out before he's even seated, Jaskier sits nervously at the bar and orders an angel shot

The Lighting Department is Top Form
Even though the show didn't give Johnny the fate I think he deserved, I appreciate that Jin walked into the play at the exact moment Johnny's character was begging for his life surrounded by (Akin's) blue.
Tumblr media
Because the theater was made up of Johnny's red and Jin's green, as if it was battle between them for Akin.
Tumblr media
Then, in the play, Akin's character lost the fight to Johnny's character surrounded by Johnny's red.
Tumblr media
However, in the play, Akin's character, in blue, tells Johnny's character, who is in red, that "Revenge solves nothing; it only deepens the wound" and if we hold onto our anger, we "will carry the weight of hatred forever" with the tiniest barrier between them.
Tumblr media
And we see Akin surrounded, once again, by his blue as he tearfully looks at Jin.
Tumblr media
And Jin sees the light. This message is to him. His hatred for Johnny is clouding his love for Akin.
Tumblr media
So even though there are clear barriers between Johnny and Jin, he asks to sit down and chat with him.
Tumblr media
And for such a dark bar, the lighting is actually quite bright.
Tumblr media
Until the exact moment Jin stops bullshitting with Johnny, and subtly threatens him. Jin becomes dark.
Tumblr media
And although he lightens up as he leaves to see Akin, he looks at Johnny with an air of darkness remaining and basically tells him he is "lucky" to be working with Akin because that is the only thing saving him. He is telling Johnny that he is not ruining Johnny's entire fucking life because that would mean Akin's play would have issues.
Tumblr media
Then, Jin steps completely into the darkness and tells Johnny that if he does it again, he "won't let him go next time."
Tumblr media
Jin will be the darkness for Akin, who has been sitting in his own dark hole since Jin left him in the parking garage.
Tumblr media
So when Jin shows up at Akin's apartment, Akin is sitting in darkness ready to break it off with Jin.
Tumblr media
But once Jin tells him that he has nothing to apologize for and has him listen to what Johnny said, Akin's world brightens.
Tumblr media
And Akin is back in his color.
Tumblr media
Jin is a chill Green Guy for Akin who will always brighten his world.
Tumblr media
But he has proven several times that he is capable of much worse when pushed.
Tumblr media
Which is why I love the angel wings. I know they are carryover from the source material, but they work even better here knowing just how dark Jin can get so it feels like Jin is only an angel for Akin because even his darkness is what Akin needs.
Tumblr media
And he will be the constant barrier between Johnny and Akin there to remind Johnny of what he promised him at that bar — that would be the first and last time he messed with Akin.
Tumblr media
So even though the narrative seems to have forgiven the "Ass," (Donkey), the lighting department wasn't so easy on him because the threat of Jin is clear as the darkness surrounds him.
Tumblr media
Akin wrote to his grandmother on blue paper about how much he loves Jin. He wrote it in his color that he found the person who makes his world complete.
Tumblr media
Because when Jin whispers in Akin's ear, there is light in his words compared to when he threatened Johnny in that bar.
Tumblr media
And he'll always be there to take care of his drunk boyfriend.
Tumblr media
So Jin is Akin's angel because he is more than willing to be the devil to everyone else.
Tumblr media
Jin isn't a golden retriever.
Tumblr media
He's a hellhound.

what if i wrote a “shen yuan transmigrates into a wife” oneshot but the whole premise is based on the song “gone, i’m gone” from hadestown and its overall theme is wanderlust and freedom and it starts out as Shen Yuan settling into life in the palace and trying to avoid harem drama and thinking he can just live with his head down for the rest of his new life, only to be hit with a sudden intense yearning to explore his new world the likes he’s never felt before. What if he was sickly in his last life. What if he spent his entire last life indoors. Trapped between four walls. What if love is not a gilded cage. What if he begins clawing at the walls of his enclosure, desperate to escape because he wants to live, god please let him live. He can’t do this again. What if he spent months preparing for his escape and in that same breath getting the attention of some of the other wives around him because he has changed and it makes them wary. what if he got binghe’s attention as he is wont to do. What if he left. What if Shen Yuan was born with a bottomless pit in his stomach and a gaping maw in his chest. What if he was starving. What if he was starving for the world around him. What if i wrote that. What then
#svsss#shen yuan#shen qingqiu#scum villain#scum villain au#scum villans self saving system#svsss au#luo binghe#luo bingge#its the same wife transmigration plot no.143 but its starry coded#and what if i made it a songfic what then. what if i titled it ‘love is not a gilded cage’#what if there was no system in this au. just shen yuan on his own#and what if i made it part of a oneshot series with each oneshot depicting an adventure shen yuan goes on#he will eventually find his way back to binghe but not before he finds himself first#what if starry went the fuck to bed#what if the wife he ended up as was someone childish or loud or considered naive and then suddenly she’s not bc she’s sy now#and he has no system and he’s alone with no allies and he is STARVING. he is ravenous. he wants to see the world please let him see the wor#world. let him out please please please please#all the wealth within these walls could never buy the thing called love#he cares for binghe greatly. thats his fave character! but he wants out please let him out. you wont even notice he’s gone orpheus#you’ll find another muse somewhere.#luo bingge is a good hunter but shen yuan is a good hider.#i want ning yingying to find sy in the gardens one day and suddenly see her shizun. sy wanted to try doing sqq’s signature move bc it#seemed simple and easy enough and nyy saw him. and she asks him where he learned that. and he panics and lies and says in a dream somewhere#gnaws on the bars of my cage

#alan becker#animator vs animation#ava#ava tdl#ava victim#captive tdl au#long tag warning#dark is going to have some dog/caged animal symbolism and machine symbolism#TDL is very much a problem captive also very annoying one at that#you can blame the high security one him since his constant escapes helped rocket corp to tighten their security#victim is definitely insane and he will do some incredibly messed up stuff in this au#the machinery on agent is supposed to look like it is slowly consuming him like some kind of infestation#agent has some issues as well and will be an enabler for victim#victim and agent's relationship will get some attention in this au but the main plot will still revolve around chosen and dark#chosen and dark's relationship is a lot more complex so i won't bother to summarise it all since i don't really want to spoil it#TSC will receive a bit of attention since he is still very much tied to the plot of ava#tsc does have a split personality like an alter ego that takes over when he is in danger#i dont think i would really touch on the colour gang since i think it would make the story too messy#i do have most of the story already planned out#it is just the part leading to the ending#every weapon and tech in rocket corp was tested on TDL#in a way he did help with the destruction of chosen by helping rocket corp to improve their tech by being their test subject#fulfilling his code in its own twisted way#btw the additional cage in his containment area is to temporarily hold him during the box maintainence or upgrades#it is also the same type of cage that TSC is kept in currently#the box prototype that TDL is in would probably have a different name like 'the cage'#the bars of the cage is electrically charged and it also resembles a dog cage (dog symbolism)#there won't be too much about dark during his captivity since it will be more about how it impacted the relationship between him and chosen#i would probably start posting more random lore bits every now and then between comics#i hope i stop getting side tracked when working on this au

A neighbor of the Anoufriev family: «I've known Artyomka since he was a child, since he was 2 years old. His mother raised him alone, his father was never there. The woman did her best: she exchanged her one-room apartment for a two-room one, worked from morning to night to ensure a decent life for herself and her son. Artyom wanted for nothing. His mother tried to dress him well, she bought him a computer, and he had musical instruments — after all, he graduated from our music school, and he had obvious musical abilities. When the boy entered our medical university on a budgetary basis, her joy knew no bounds. She said, "My boy did it himself! I was afraid that I would have to pay for him. But, well done, he did it himself!"» Artyom wanted to become either a surgeon or a cardiologist — he wanted to achieve success in something big.
